Of course he was given a chance. 7 starts in the league with God knows how many sub appearances.
He was not good enough. Simple as. Not for Liverpool FC.

{Ed002's Note - Another pitiful post from the world's worst supporters.}

He wasn't good enough before we bought him and regardless of how many games he got he won't be good enough now or in the future.
No animosity towards him, he's just not a top class striker. I hope he does well at WBA

If we had played him instead of Balotelli i am totally sure we would have had a better season. He clearly needed that run in the team, to get sharp in into the rhytm. Considering the injuries to Sturridge and the form and attitude of Balotelli, i really don't understand why he didn't play more than he did. Same goes for Borini.

Us as supporters should show a higher level of respect to players who wear or have worn the shirt. Especially those who left with dignity. Is it really that hard to tint those narrow glasses of yours with a hint of positive affection?

Hey ed's

With Lambert Sealed at West Brom, Good luck to him.

Lucas, Balotelli, Enrique & Borini all left off the tour to Finland. is this goodbye for all of them?

01 Aug 2015 00:52:25
It's a conspiracy

Agree1 Disagree2

01 Aug 2015 01:42:09
Lambert wasn't really given a chance.

Borini's strike rate over his whole career is less than 1 in 4, so we're hardly missing out on a prolific striker. He scored 10 goals in a season for Sunderland, yes, but about half were penalties and he needed 40 games to amass them.

And Balotelli doesn't apply himself and probably won't score that many goals in a top European League from now on. Reckon he'll be playing in China or the Middle East by the time he's 30.

Hi Ed01,

you and Ed02 have mentioned on several occasions that players are mistreated. Promises broken etc.

Exactly who makes these promises and/or talks to player when they are unhappy (i.e. Sakho)?

Thanks in advance!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - mostly it is down to the manager. He is the one who has to agree that players will get playing time, then has to decide each week whether or not to pick them.}}

01 Aug 2015 09:45:59
Thanks Ed01.

I've been on here for two years now, and this site is part of around 15 LFC sites I read, mostly for the banter among the fans.

But once every so often, some small bits of info come up. Put together, it paints the picture of a manager overwhelmed by his duties. BR really doesn't seem to have taken a personal 'step up'.

The few forums that have small talk among staff who attend sponsors events with LFC people have a pattern that pre-season last year, BR was rather puffed up with his LMA award. This year, he's more hangdog and has the look of a manager waiting to be sacked.

My question to either Ed01 or Ed02; what's your opinion of why the owners have kept him around?

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - They took advice which offered up someone else but they decided not to go down that road. It strikes me as a final throw of the dice now - but the owners are continuing to take advice.}

If it's alright to say here, what are some of the better lfc sites in your opinion?

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Aug 2015 15:54:28
Thanks Eds02,

A final throw of the dice for BR I can appreciate.

But the numbers are troubling, aren't they? As of end FY2014, the club still had £237M in debt. We are building a new stand that is costing £100M (at least for now), we have spent lavishly on players this season and last.

I have no proof or reference, but as a businessman, I'm guessing the owners are making cash available against future income. I'm hoping that unlike Peter Ridsdale, we are not borrowing money on forecasted success!

@spoonlord: Most of the sites carry generic news, but the gold is in the forums. This site is platinum for me as it is 100% forum.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Actually I understand that it is borrowing against future income that is funding purchases and work on the stadium. The business is still intent on selling naming rights and by now they will know that they could get far more for the rights to the stadium that for individual stands - but they will also know that would be unpopular with the fans. The value of the business will increase based on already secured future income (television rights) but a nervousness will still exist as discussions about a breakaway continue unabated - with the next discussions due August 26/27. Those discussions include a proposal from two clubs to accelerate the process citing the FIFA situation as a reason - my gut feeling is that the proposal will not have the backing to make anything significant happen any quicker. But there are owners out there that know that any breakaway will have an impact on the value of the clubs.}

01 Aug 2015 17:13:04
Well, that's a whole new can of worms then!

So the club is balancing their projections based on secured future income which may take a significant hit if any European elite breakaway league transpires - wonderful.

And as you have mentioned, LFC are no longer even invited to these meetings, having embarrassed themselves repeatedly, there's no guarantee we might even be invited to a new party if it takes off.

For what it's worth, I don't think anything immediate will transpire. Globally, finance markets are so volatile. Over in Europe, there's Greece and its tragedy, here in South East Asia, there is growing panic as China is faltering. The effects on Australia are near ridiculous now. With all the investment China has made in last decade, there's talk of them recouping their money. Oil has slumped and the wallahs at City, Monaco and PSG may not be so comfortable going forward.

So if a new super European league is to take off (God knows they've talked about it for more than ten years now, at least) it will be in planning and perhaps, actions to be taken to lay the groundwork. Other than that, it would be some leap of faith.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - It is the nature of the game today. Across Europe overall debt has reduced very significantly, but some clubs continue to spend well beyond their means. in England this can be offset against the future earnings from television income, and, if a club is successful on the pitch, the money that comes with that through winning trophies and through additional sponsorship that always follows. As for other matters, there are too many professional clubs in certain countries with England being a prime example. A restructuring will be needed and when a breakaway eventually comes that will happen. Everyone is aware it is only a matter of time. It is perfectly possible that UEFA and FIFA could not live through such events.}

What a wonderful insight! Thanks again Ed02.

So now we have got rid of lambert I see balotelli is defiantly on his way out as well but I think I'm the only Liverpool fan who does not want to see him go if it was me I would give him more playing time defiantly would of took him on tour before this season give him this season more starts and see what he does because he has all the potential in the world and I think balotelli and Benteke would strike fear in prem defences as apart from them sturridge is always injured ings I don't believe fully in . Hope I'm proved wrong and also apparently origi got put into the worst league in France where he was on loan and yet we still don't have a proven CB

I agree 100% with you. Just imagine what would BR say if he was given only 1 year to win trophies??? Manager gets 4 years and £300m plus to spend and yet player get 1 year to provd himself??? Players are also human being.Give him another year. If allen has been given so many year so should ballo. Anyone on here if u remember a young Lucas, young Gerrard, or evrn recently Henderson THEY WERE ALL CRAP. However with time they became the first name on the team sheet. We cannot chop n change every year. Unacceptable guys. We need consistancy. Shop trust in thd player. Balotelli scored against germany. He cannot be yhat bad. BR change the system and show respect and trust to all the players like u do to Allen.

Ed001 has said many times about the issues with Balotelli behind the scenes that are bad for team moral. The togetherness within the squad has to be no 1 priority and for that reason alone Balotelli has to go even if it's on a free. In My opinion he should hold the door open for Rogers on his way out for the same reason

Gerrard was crap?im sorry but what gerrard was u watching?it was clear how good he was even at 19!!
Lucas was bought as an attacking midfielder an rafa re roled him so yea it would take time to adjust.
I have always liked hendo and he has improved greatly but that comes with the hard work and commitment that he has put in being a model proffesional with it,unlike balotelli who is a lazy social media guru with no interest in anything but himself and was a complete waste of money from day 1.we can't give him away!! so I wondered yesterday why Benteke (and Firmino) don't go to Helsinky and suggested BR may not start with them against Stoke. I got million disagreements and explenations they would probably play against Swindon. I also said a week ago that BS has this obsession with resting players and also got millions of disagreements.

Now BR says (interview today) they will not play over the weekend and that he has doubts if they will be ready for Stoke, saying they won't be 100 per cent and even if they will not play next week they will feature later.

Really strange, this one, especially Benteke. He didn't have any tournament this summer, trained with villa before moving and from then trained with us. Can't see any reason for him not starting against Stoke.

Could it be that firmino and benteke are not yet ready in terms of understanding and playing br's tactical systems?
Its a big gamble to leave out a £32m proven pl striker against stoke, because we need to get off to a strong start. Every goal and every point gained are going to be critical to this season and br's future at the club. He has to get this one right. Personally I'm not sure he has.

01 Aug 2015 12:12:45
This is all a bit of a red herring for me. Surely if a player is unfit the best way to get him fit is to play him. As for not playing firmy or benteke at stoke is also a red herring, they are both professional ballers who have already a good level of fitness and one who recently played in a south american tournament.

No point in second guessing someone who seemingly does not have a clue, i just hope he pulls himself together and delivers a better season than the last one.

g1dgo - if we can't discuss things on here where can we? This site is where we air our opinions and vent our frustrations. As soon as those guys cross the white line we'll all be behind them.
In the past two seasons there have been periods where we have looked like world beaters and periods where we have looked like relegation fodder. We've addressed the forward line, and partly addressed the defence. Last season we made mistakes in the transfer market, this season we've done better business, but the squad looks unbalanced we seem to have no end of attacking midfielders. Issues I'm concerned about:
- Integrating the new squad members with the old,
- Our very difficult start to the season - and we've started slowly these last two seasons.
- Giving everyone adequate game time
- Tensions arising in the squad from lack of game time - especially if we have a bad run of results.
- Bringing young players on
- Will we play to Benteke's strengths / will he adapt?
- Sorting out the heart of our defence - finding a centreback combination that works.

On the other hand several players and BR have a lot to prove so the motivation is there - and what better way to go than by hitting the ground running and prove the knockers wrong?

But we better had do so, or I suspect BR will be collecting his P45.

Not sure if anyone else mentioned it here, just came to the page after a while. I am really disappointed with the way Balotelli, Borini and Enrique are being treated by the club. Isolate them from the squad as if they have a virus that contaminates the others? Is it even a good decision business wise ? Don't think I have seen us treating players like that because they are unwanted.
concerning transfers, editors sorry if this may come as redundant on you but is our business concerning ins over ? or any position we like to strengthen? perhaps a defensive midfielder or a left back ?

Respect your opinipn BUT many clubs do it all the time so nothing new there. Malouda was forced to train with the U21`s for a whole season at Chelsea and did not hear many fans at Chelsea moaning about it. If the players refuse to leave even tho offers are on the table for them and they know they are no longer needed and won't play, then whatever they do is their choice and if they wanna remain marginalized then that`s their decision because God knows I would NEVER allow myself to just train with the kids and not play for a whole season.

Mikias, I'm pretty sure your thoughts are being clouded by your opinion of the management.

These guys are no longer part of the first team so when they team travels they're left on their own.

Agree3 Disagree1

31 Jul 2015 14:26:47
Mikias

Whats the point in these players training with the 1st team if they are not apart of it , in training the manager and coaches will be going through the tactics they will be using in the games coming up , like marking and defending set pieces , if he let's any of these players train with the 1st team on these tactics then there will be confusion when it come to the prem games because a player could easily say i thought ballo was marking that player or this player that's why they are not training with the 1st team , that's what i think anyway as i'm not privvy to the managers thoughts , but i do know that we have done it before when other players needed a different traing regime because they were come back from injury and the 1st teams traing was to much , plus I've also read in papers its happened in other clubs in the prem , if these players were good enough they would be with the squad or other teams would be snapping them up , the fact not many are should tell you something , ballo could be a very good player if he applied himself better because he has the talent , borini is not as good as studge or benteke and enrique is just a sick note , he is getting payed a lot of money for being injured all the time , why not try to see how much he got while he was injured and not even being on the field of play, also with these players what happens if they get injured while doing the intense training , we would be stuck with players we don't want ,

Agree6 Disagree0

31 Jul 2015 14:30:45
I don't feel very sorry for Borini. He must have known last summer he had little chance of starting any games, yet he turned down a chance to play for sunderland, perhaps in the hope that lfc would buckle and allow him a cheap loan move to italy. He gambled in refusing sunderland and it never paid off- unless you count him staying on tens of thousands of pounds salary each week as paying off.

Enrique it seems refuses to learn more discipline in his game, and is therefore not up to the standard needed for a club with CL aspirations.
Balotelli was a huge gamble that never paid off, and I think his very laid back approach and his wacky attitude to the game could well affect the motivation and the performance of other players, so I totally understand the need to separate him from the first team- although it is a harsh thing to do.

Agree4 Disagree4

31 Jul 2015 16:41:12
For me I don't quite follow the logic behind being seemingly desperate to offload players while simultaneously expecting ridiculous offers for their services. Bizarre.

I would have some sympathy if they weren't getting paid.

Agree2 Disagree2

31 Jul 2015 17:44:11
So Liverpool publicly disrespecting players is different to players (sterling) disrespecting Liverpool is different how??

Sterling wanted to leave he did what he had to do. Liverpool want players to leave they do what they have to do.

Personally I think it's out of order what the club has done. The above players are only here because they were bought by the club and offered silly wages. If I was offered a new job in my profession that was worth a lot less then my current I'd stay whether or not I was wanted. Fans share a completely different loyalty than players.

Agree5 Disagree2

31 Jul 2015 19:31:28
Mikias I completely agree with you. The players are still getting paid so should be doing the work and representing Liverpool in Finland rather than sitting on their backside. Surely we stand a better chance of selling a player for decent money if we make it 'look like' they still have something to offer us rather than letting the world know that we want rid asap (even if it is no secret that we want rid of the players). It just doesn't make any business sense at all.

Anyway, it seems like the near 30m Borini and Balotelli will end up on loan to Italian clubs with 'options to buy' but knowing us and Italian clubs, the option will not be exercised and will lead to another loan to buy from other Italian clubs next season.

Agree1 Disagree0

31 Jul 2015 19:43:09
I have sympathy for Borini because he really, really wanted to do well here. At times he was trying too hard, I still think he is a decent player just not for Liverpool, and its not like he had the oppotunities.

Balotelli and Enrique I have little sympathy for, Enrique seems happy to pick up a check and Balotelli has all the talent in the world but little of the application, if I was him I'd make sure I was on the training pitch running my ass off after training has ended to try and make myself the best player I could possibly be and prove that I'm not the lazy player everyone thinks.

Agree2 Disagree1

31 Jul 2015 12:42:20
Rodgers and the club knew what they were getting when they bought Mario Balotelli. His troubles are well documented, it isn't like a stalk dropped him outside Melwood in a basket and blanket. Rodgers and the club took a 'calculated gamble' (their words) on a player with a terrible reputation for disrupting camps wherever he's been. Mario is his own man, he is ultimately in charge of his destiny but he's a idiot, we knew that before he signed for us! I don't think Mario had many dicipline issues on or off the pitch and no one suggested he had a negative influence in the dressing room. He was just unbelievably poor on the pitch, way worse than anyone could have predicted based on what he did before coming to us in Milan, in the National team or in City when he played. Part of it may have to do with him unsuitable to our style of play. But still given the minutes he got playing no one could have predicted how poor he would end up. not even his greatest criticques. Still a bit of mystery for me. He was just awful.

Agree3 Disagree5

{Ed002's Note - That is incorrect.}

31 Jul 2015 13:22:02
In his defense every time he was challenged on the pitch in a harsh way, which ore often than not there were players trying to agitate him, he responded calmly. He had the one incident where the Liverpool fans held him back, (and I think he had good reason to be mad), but other times he had been hit hard and he just got right back up. The truth is I think he's a good player. He held the ball up well; he never really got to play with 2 strikers. You don't spend 16 million on one player and get rid in one season. I'm tired of all this bad egg talks. He's done some things off the pitch, as ed002 mentioned, but was his attitude really that disruptive? How can a player who played maybe half of our games be the reason for an entirely dreadful season?

Fanobip, are you being serious?

He's a renowned clown who is shabite at football.

He pays too much attention to his hair and social media comments.

And before anyone starts, he hasn't shown any ability in a number of seasons, especially in the EPL.

It's Lambert I feel sorry for in having to wait for his chance while that clown was given game time.

Lambert wouldbhave won us many more games than him given the chance.

Lambert got more chances last year then he could have hoped fot. he never came as a first striker. he did very little with minute he got. Re Mario I agree he has a tons of attituded issues but before coming to us he also had a lot of football. We all saw him in City. he did some great things there football wise despite all the issues. for us it was nothing.

Lambert is a better player and would have been more effective than the Italian.

Clubs can purchase the Italian for just double the amount of what Lambert is valued at, but do you see any takers?

No.

Says it all really - seven million and clubs don't want to go near him, and it's not just his personality either, it's because he can't play football and hasn't got the brain to play football.

Agree1 Disagree0

31 Jul 2015 22:42:40
I have to say, any time I watched mario play he really put a shift in. Genuinely. The only thing is that although he chased a lot of things down and actually, did a lot of "donkey work" he just never made the "smart" runs. Was a bit of a headless chicken,
But he actually did work hard.
Still believe that him and sturridge up front together for a full season would bang in a loada goals.
His best game was his first against Spurs (when he played beside sturridge).

A question to the Eds.and fellow posters.
I want to know if we ever move into a Director of Football model do you think Arsene Wenger would be a good candidate if and when he leaves as the Manager from Arsenal (This is just a hypothetical question) . I would like to rephrase the question by asking Do u think Wenger has the qualities to be a Director of Football. The work he has done in terms to development of Arsenal as a football club is nothing short of remarkable .If you feel i need to ask this at a different page i will do so.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - Wenger would be wasted as a DoF, in my opinion.}

why do you think that is ed01, i would assume wenger with his vast knowledge of football would be perfect for the role.

We have Ings, Origi, Sinclair for the moment and Firmino has played up top for the Brazilian national team, I doubt there'll be a point where all 5 are unavailable and we find ourselves in desperate need of a man we pay £90,000 to every week

Balotelli is a disgrace to professional sport , he was before he came and he dragged the club's reputation through the dirt as most people thought he would .

dont you know about the injuries that sturridge and benteke pick up throughout the season , don't worry my friend there will be plenty of chances for Ings and Origi to play in games and we have plenty of games coming up , studge comes back in september with having no pre - season so it will take him time to get up to match fitness ,

Agree5 Disagree0

31 Jul 2015 15:15:08

Hi Eds,
What is the deal with Balotelli? I know he has had a terrible season but surely this isn't a huge surprise to Liverpool, Rodgers even admitted it was a gamble when we signed him. The point I am getting at is that we've had worse players than Balotelli who were treated better than this when the club finally lost patience with them, so why is there so much venom behind Liverpool's approach to offloading him, has he done something horrible behind the scenes that we don't know about? Obviously I want him to move on but I would rather it was done with a bit more dignity than cropping him out of 'world class' photos and dropping him from pre season squads against the likes of swindon. I just feel like Liverpool need to grow up a bit and realise that the world is watching stuff like this and we can't continue to preach the 'Liverpool way' and sing 'You'll Never Walk Alone' while publicly getting on like children. What is going on with the people making these decisions?

Sorry if that was more rant than question, but would appreciate any insight into what is going on.

Cheers.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - he causes trouble behind the scenes. The guy deserves everything he gets, because he brings it all on himself while whining about how it is not his fault.}

31 Jul 2015 12:18:00
I think he's been fined at least 4 times. I can't remember what they're all for.I think one was for not turning up to training, another was for bringing his dogs to training and letting them empty their bowels at melwood and another for the instagram photo(unsure). Among many other things. He's not a good presence and should have never been bought.
I said at the time I couldn't get behind such a lazy player who's selfish, irresponsible and quite frankly a T*sspot. Balotelli is nothing but bad news, and a below average player. You can't ''back'' some one like that in my book,to do so is irresponsible, and shows why we are where we are as a club.

Agree5 Disagree1

31 Jul 2015 12:52:41
Cheers for the reply Ed. I just want to put it out there that I wasn't backing Balotelli's future in the squad, far from it. I never wanted him as did the majority of Liverpool fans but for whatever mad reason we bought him, knowing what he was like. I just wish we could keep a lot of that nonsense behind the scenes as he becomes a less attractive option for teams when we're acting like he doesn't exist while slapping a 10+Mil price tag on him. I suppose if isolating him is a means to an end then fair enough but it would be prudent to just cut out loses, take the financial hit and move on if it'll remove a destructive force from the players who are actually committed.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Jul 2015 13:20:39
You cannot force anyone to leave when he still has time on his contract, so I think the club is doing this to make sure he doesn't decide to stay and make the most of his chance to play for us still.

Agree0 Disagree2

31 Jul 2015 14:46:05
This is modern football
For me it's the same as when fans moan about players wanting to leave - they are vilified and called mercenaries and money grabbers
However clubs act the same way when they want to move on players often they have less respect

At least when a player wants out they still put in 100% on the pitch

But we are already overrun with players and we don't need him at this time .

Agree5 Disagree1

31 Jul 2015 14:01:01
Exactly, Shanek and Boba! This idea that a player is too young to play is just rubbish. What people forget is that most the stars and legends of the game all got their chances at 16/17/18yrs old. If the coaches gave the pathetic excuses for them not being played as many do on here, we would NEVER see said legends dazzle us at an early age. Ilory has played many pro games and is 22 as well as on the cusp of the national team in Portugal. If I were him, I`m not going on any more loans because I have nothing to prove anymore so either play me or sell me. He has shown the potential to be a very good player when given a chance to play globally so I ask these fans with their excuses, "At what point do you think he and many others, should get their chances or do you throw up these baseless excuses to absorb BR of any blame in his outright inability and incompetence in this area?" I`ll wait for you to answer that simple question.

31 Jul 2015 14:03:22
Clear the decks and cut your losses. We ain`t getting any of the amounts we paid for them back and the longer we keep them, like assets, the more they will cost us money due to depreciation of their value or whatever is left of it. Get rid, get what you can get for them and move on.
