Brilliant win for us today. A really good team performance. We were compact and defensively we showed huge resilience that we haven't seen before. Finally wijnaldum is getting the praise he deserves, he had a very good game. Emre can also had a very good game and settled well into the midfield. Special mention to Klavan who I thought was brilliant, especially when he got the yellow so early on, he had to be extremely careful, showed great composure and inspired confidence across the back 4.

I didn't think the atmosphere was that good for much of the game if im honest. The fans were really only vocal in the last 20 minutes or so when Liverpool came under constant pressure. I thought the players seen the gamr out really well tho and if you look at it, even under pressure, not too many good efforts for City. A great way to finish 2016. Hope Hendo's heel injury isn't too bad, maybe a wee break for him next week.

You really can't judge the atmosphere by watching something on tv, you can't have the noise of 60k fans over commentary and I guess it depends where they place the mics as to who you hear.

Well done lads. at times tonight our midfield was ragged, but they dug in, worked and battled. Klavan and Lovren were solid, clyne and Milner stayed controlled and sat back a bit to double up in defence. gini, excellent when I saw him at Newcastle 18 months ago I liked him and I still think he is a great ball mover and carrying player just hope as daft as it may sound that mane may get a rest or recharge from the afcon as he seems slightly off and that pip returning will help bobby. love bod.

The last game of the year possibly proved to be the one where we had to dig in and be resilient the most. I am over the moon that we put in that type of display, proving we do have the ability to grind out a 1-0 against one of the best attacks in Europe.
However, we can't afford to slip up at Sunderland. Let's get 2017 off and running in a similar way to how 2016 ended.

I thought one thzing I never heard, unless I'm mistaken n, was Wiji sold the dummy first and then made 70yds to get on the end of the cross. Super Mum movement.

At 5 minutes in Lovren bottles a chip pass to Clyne that goes straight out of play.
At 12 minutes he's far too deep, then suddenly rund 10 yards in front of the line to a city player who's never receiving the pass, leaving a large whole.
at 16 minutes Lovren charges out to ''challenge'' for a header when city counter and doesn't get near it, leaving a huge gape that Klavan thankfully covers with. that's all in the first 15 minutes really that I bothered to re watch. Klavan deserves a lot of praise, but for me I wouldn't really heap that much on Lovren.

Those passes he is afforded now never used to be one, with Balotelli, Sterling, Benteke up front.
It helps he has workhorses with him and Firmino and Mane, as well as Henderson all making room for his passes. It's more about personnel than anything else for me. Never thought he had a problem moving the ball qickly when the option was availale, the problem was the option wasn't, at times he still takes several touches, he's just coming up against 2 or 3 on ones, because his team mates are moving into space.

I can see today being a cricket score in our favour if Klopp and the lads get it right. Pep is stubborn. He will never change his ways no matter the opposition. If City come out to play against us at Anfield they will be taken apart. They struggle passing it out from the back against the worst teams in the division, and we have the most effective press in Europe.
Alternatively if our lads don't go full throttle, City have the quality to hurt us badly. If both teams play to full capacity though this will be a hammering. YNWA.

In the short term I'm not sure we need to worry about them attracting blatantly average players on extortionate contracts. I'm personally of the opinion that China will suffer in the long term because of the type of player you can attract purely for monetary benefit.

Just seen Andy Murray and Mo Harrah have been knighted, would like to give them a huge congratulations on this. What they have both done in their sports in exceptional, particularly Murray who in a time of the best tennis players ever has reached number 1 through sheer hard work and determination as don't think he has the natural talent of the others.
Though saw dalglish on tv later and think it's a huge shame he has never been given this honour. Considered one of GBs greatest players of all time and more so has done so much for the JFT 96 campaign that think he definitely deserves it. Regardless he has all of my respect and all of liverpools.

I've decided that today James Milner is my most unrecognized player of the season so far. He has taken on a position he didn't really want to play, has made it his own, not publically moan or been negative around the role.

I think you are wrong, but not for bad reasons and this is not a negative response to you, I think every player has been given a lot of praise for the efforts this season. not always for the right reasons but still have been recognised.
but for me lallana is very close to playing at world class level, not saying he is just that he is performing to that level.

Henderson has been awesome this year without much recognition. I think he's really grown into the captaincy, which was never going to be easy given the act he was following. Henderson makes the side tick by providing great protection for the back four on top of his excellent passing range and vision.
I also think Clyne and Milner have performed fairly well this season, I don't know if you can say Milner's performances have gone unrecognized though.

Henderson for me. He is in my opinion playing better than any other midfielder in Europe. His stats more than back that up as well. In fact his stats would suggest he is the best by a distance. In reality it is probably much closer. I don't think anyone outside of Kante and Kroos can even wage an argument against Henderson though. He is literally on another level right now. Hopefully he sustains it now throughout his career.

Agree with Adam here - it's got to be Hendo, simply because half of his own clubs fans don't appreciate what he does. I personally don't know a single person who rates him highly. If our own fans can't see whathe does, he's got to win.

Just a bit of mid season banter - who do we think has been our best player so far this season?
There's been a few real standouts. Some are the usual suspects (Coutinho and Firmino) ; some are surprises (Milner and Lallana) ; some are new signings (Matip and Mane) .
For me, I'd give it to Lallana. Just because of how much he has turned it around and done what we all asked of him - score more goals. Fair play to you Adam, keep it up in the second half of the season please.
Honestly, I could give it to any of them listed above though.

Llalana for me too - he's the creative force from midfield that is keeping the front 3 linked, and his clever movement also keeps the teams shape unpredictable and difficult to defend against. He's also starting to score some really important goals.
Besides him it's a very close call between Hendo, Couts, Firmino, Mane, Matip and Milner who have all looked really strong.

Id give it to Milner personally. Playing in an unfamiliar position, he has kept Moreno out the side by pure consistency. Contributed with assists and penalties too and goes about his job with minimum fuss. Last year i was questioning why we had him in the first team, this year he's almost unreplaceable.

Mane for me. He has had some poor matches granted, but we look like a different team when he isn't on the pitch. He's not the only reason, but in my opinion his speed and ability has taken us to a different level.
I think he compliments the rest of the squad really well.

I think it really shows that we're more a 'greater than the sum of our parts' team and is another great reflection on the work Klopp's done.

Hi all Reds supporters.
I don't want to seem maudling at all, but my young brother died on New Years Eve 3 years ago tomorrow, and I really miss him like hell. You do get over things like this over time, but every year on New Years Eve my heart bursts for our kid.
Although I would never ever forget his passing, it is impossible to forget at such a time.
I would like to wish everyone who has lost someone at this time or any other time my best wishes and chins up.
Life does go on, no matter how hard, and we will all meet again in the future.

IF a really good offer came in for Countino would Rodriguez be the preferred option as a replacement or would be be someone else, surely this has been looked at within the club as the kid is making headlines most of the time he plays this season especially. Absolutely love watching him play and would give my right arm and leg to have him stay are they are knack red anyway 😂😂
