Is it true Villa want to cancel ilori's loan deal?

31 Dec 2015 22:57:25
Happy New Year to you all.

Rumour has it 2016 is the year the messiah will return to land of the Reds.

Tiago Ilori will come back from the dead now his loan spell at Villa looks finished and take us to the title and Europa league success.

Believable5 Unbelievable3

01 Jan 2016 00:20:56
Wont overtake toure let alone sakho lovren in the order. He will have to be utterly unstoppable in training to get a game.

01 Jan 2016 00:53:21
2 months ago: "Ilori is our messiah and will solve our defensive issues"
When he returns: "Won't be ahead of Toure in the pecking order and will be lucky to get a game"
The word fickle springs to mind here.

01 Jan 2016 00:54:13
Llori the Messiah!

01 Jan 2016 01:50:21
It's ilori not llori ron.

01 Jan 2016 12:44:23
I don't get it daredman, does my opinion represent anyone else of this site, why quote me on something I have never said? You will never find a post from me clamouring for ilori to play. The word ****er springs to mind here.

01 Jan 2016 13:40:02
Easy beef, I think DaRedman is quoting 'the site' as saying Ilori is the messiah. It's kind of an on-going joke. I don't think he meant to wind you up. šŸ˜‰.

01 Jan 2016 14:09:33
Very few people have said that. All we want is for the boy to be given a chance so we can judge him based on the pitch instead on judging him based on the rank incompetence of his managers here and at Villa. Is that too much to ask?

01 Jan 2016 19:24:29
It wasn't meant as an insult buddy. I was quoting the site as a whole. And Ron I see what you've done there with the Llori thingšŸ˜‚.

Ed2 latest rumours today are linking us with Caceres and berahino. Can you confirm its all a load of crap. Papers doing their usual make stuff up again i take it.

Believable0 Unbelievable2

{Ed002's Note - I can't help with Berahino - that seems surprising. Caceres is at the end of his career and on a freebie I guess. He work hard to get Suarez to leave Liverpool. Makes near zip sense to me.}

01 Jan 2016 03:52:52
It will be one of Matip or Caceres. Preferable Matip for me as he is younger and has the better attitude though Caceres is way more talented. Clearly the club is struggling with FFP hence cheap options are being looked at, which i honestly do not mind as enough money has been wasted before. Ward also deserves a shot as first choice GK so maybe the club will hold back on signing a new GK for a little longer. Kent's back from loan, nice to see Klopp wanting to work with the club's youngsters. And please stay away from berahino. Shocking attitude and the English Balotelli.

01 Jan 2016 07:37:19
Has anyone looked at Caceres's injury record?

01 Jan 2016 14:11:52
I would pick Matip because he's younger, very experienced at CL level and at international level having played two WC's with Cameroun. He can also play at DM and CB effortlessly. Won't be too bad a signing.

31 Dec 2015 16:51:03
Hi ED002

If your about, I was wondering what you make of WYSCOUT, who uses it and how definitive / reliable it is to the club scouts?

And, I guess it's that time of year to say thank you for all the info you have given all the posters through 2015.the efforts you put in to to sludge through the some of glifnards nonsense is comendable. but without those vegetables, we wouldn't be able to laugh at your priceless put downs

I've particularly been interested in the really informative pieces you have wrote about the pan European breakaway and the big picture that is inevitably upon us

Hope you and your family have a prosperous 2016.

Believable0 Unbelievable2

{Ed002's Note - I am afraid I don't know what WYSCOUT is Kemlyn, but it sounds like a video based scouting programme. There are clubs who use such things before looking at players - and there are clubs that use advice before looking at players. I appreciate the thanks and we will all try to maintain an ongoing level of integrity.

Have a nifty night.}

Seen some rumours on Ever Banega moving to Italy.

Could he be an option for LFC? Perhaps if a gap opens up in midfield.

31 Dec 2015 19:19:42
Hi Ed's I saw a report on Sane costing close to 32 million, would that be an accurate valuation coming from Schalke or just nonsense?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - actually Schalke have said that even Man City could not afford to buy him, so no, it is well below what they are looking for.}

31 Dec 2015 23:55:03
32 million seems crazy for Sane.

01 Jan 2016 01:18:35
Ā£32 million is IN-Sane.

01 Jan 2016 02:57:24
If 32 mil we can trade ben for Sane. But its not crazy if Martial is 36 mil.

01 Jan 2016 03:54:46
LFC will not pay that sort of money for one player for a while. Sane is brilliant but way too expensive. Rather see Ojo, Canos and Kent get a chance than take another big 30 million risk. Who knows? Maybe one of our young academy wingers ends up as good as or even better than Sane.

Just want to wish everyone on the site a happy healthy and peaceful New Year.

This has been the best season for ages and the reason is simple. we have got Jurgen bloody Klopp as our manager!

This is the first place I visit morning noon and night for information and insight about my beloved team.

All of the Eds are great and their work is much appreciated but special thanks to Ed001 and Ed002 who have legendary status for their insight knowledge and humour.

The Eds are just brilliant and whenever they feel frustrated with the bonkers posters on here they should remember that the vast majority of us on the site really do appreciate their efforts.

To all the Eds Happy New Year and thank you!

Believable5 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - happy new year to you and everyone on the sites.}

Ed1 I see we have recalled Ryan Kent to be in our first team squad, is he ready yet mate? This boy certainly as talent.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - the only way to find out is to give him a game, but he has been excellent this season and deserves a chance to prove himself.}

31 Dec 2015 18:23:32
His position is winger. Would he be utilised to get the ball across to Benteke seeing as how he is running more? Would it also allow our full backs to defend more. Who would we drop? Would he be used as an impact sub. ?

31 Dec 2015 18:00:44
Just watch Mini documentary on Klopp's journey to the Kop. Very touching esp the farewell at Mainz where he spent 18 yrs of his life as player and manager. Do catch ot if you can, stuff of legends this one.

31 Dec 2015 17:57:48
Hi eds, just out if curiosity and hypothetically speaking, if Benteke were to be injured, and sturridge, origi and ings is not ready, besides playing Firimno as false 9, what other option do we have? Is Jerome sinclair still available as stop gap? Or is there any youth we can call upon?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - Ibe could play there, Sinclair could (though it would be unlikely), it is more likely someone like Kent or even Teixeira as a false nine.}

31 Dec 2015 18:53:51
I posted a while ago about playing ibe upfront, i would love to see how he did if he got a few training sessions practising timing his runs into space. He seems strong enough to play back to goal against a CB and he would stretch a defence.

01 Jan 2016 02:48:04
North, i do see Ibe as possibility too and very good one as he is definitely more mobile than ben. I mean if sterling can play as striker i do not see why a more talented Ibe cannot.

01 Jan 2016 02:49:49

Let me wish all my fellow Reds a Happy New Year. Now let me get to my favorite subject Jurgen 'I can't believe he's our manager' Klopp. Great managers have certain attributes that make them special class and humility should be somewhere in that mix and Kloppo has them in abundance. Allardyce's comments were bordering on fascism. Was there really any need to mention klopps nationality? I don't think so but it further reinforced sam's neandathall 1970's approach to football. Will he hire Ron Atkinson as his assistant manager? If premiership managers spew rhetoric of this nature on live television than why spend money on all these anti-racism campaigns. Surely the FA have to investigate these comments. Kloppo just brushed the xenophobia aside and didn't make a big deal of it. Class and humility and I for one am overjoyed at the fact that this man is leading our troops! Yes he's made a few mistakes and he's still learning but when he gets it right well all be walking in a Kloppo wonderland.
Remember one thing Kloppo is going to have half a season more experience in the premier league than pep which will be relevant next season. I think this is very pertinent.
I'm now going to go and wash my jurgen klopp bedsheets.

31 Dec 2015 17:37:06
Great post, I couldn't agree more.

31 Dec 2015 19:06:55
Would be as calm (media based question) if our manager was of a different colour and he's nationality was mentioned as soft?
Despicable comments.

31 Dec 2015 20:36:30
Gazza actually brings up a good point. A black man from Africa "he's a soft African" would be taken completely the wrong way. Fat Sam brought up his German race with a link to stereotyping to Germans as the opposite to soft or whatever his point is. I don't really get that pc about things, but if it was someone else it could have been really offensive.

31 Dec 2015 21:21:16
Benny my point is there was no need to mention klopps nationality. It makes no sense unless you are harboring sinister undertones. His comments were totally out of context and lamentable at best. Maybe he was still sore at bentekes 'lucky lucky' goal. Let's face it the guys a tool and I hope we batter them at Anfield. There is no reason for a manager of that disposition culturally and football wise to be anywhere near the top echelons of football.

31 Dec 2015 22:43:53
IMO, I think all these managers that have had squabbles with Klopp are just jealous of all the love and coverage he got from the media and us LFC fans as well as some other fans from other clubs. Think about it. Who cares about Pulis and his caveman tactics or Sam and his dinosaur system. Who wants to be getting a lecture on decorum from an insolent manager who picks fights with other managers and almost coming to blows with Wenger or physically attacking opposition players? And why should he pander to these managers when they are beneath him, CV and achievements wise? If they think they can bully him then they are in for a shock because that just won't work and calling him a soft German is just a pathetic way to validate that you are out of ideas and says a lot more about Sam as a person than anything else.

01 Jan 2016 01:40:38
He's 6 foot 5 and 10 years younger. I think fat Sam A-lard-ass should keep his mouth shut or he might find out who the soft one is.

31 Dec 2015 16:06:25

Guys/ girls let's not forget at this time of the season its all about results, we managed 6 points out of 6 in the last 2 games, not many other clubs managed that, even the likes of Arsenal and City dropped points.

31 Dec 2015 15:39:13
Ed001 if your about, in your own opinion which areas, if any, do you think the club will look to try and strengthen in January? Appreciate will probably depend on outgoings.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - January? I am not sure much will be done in terms of bringing players in for now to be honest. It will be mostly with an eye on next season. Possibly a keeper, if one can be brought in.}

31 Dec 2015 16:14:56
Noty a lot will happen during the winter window. Klopp will soldier-on with what he's got until the summer.

You need to be thinking more along the lines of out-going as opposed to in-coming for the summer window. There will be a massive clear-out come the summer.

31 Dec 2015 15:22:15
Andrija Zizkovic fabulous young winger with pace skill and a good eye for goal. think we sholud get him as some of his playing is similar to that of Messi. Watched him couple of times and he is one for the future.

We badly need a deadly striker who can create for himself as Benteke can't beat a defender one on one as he has no trickery or foot skill. Sturridge get fit you glass made man.

Believable0 Unbelievable2

31 Dec 2015 16:55:21
Zivkovic is out of contract in the summer i believe. Heading to Ath Madrid if i'm correct. Although Dortmund have supposedly bid ā‚¬2.5m for him.

i've been reading rumours that Kent's loan isn't going to be extended and going to be brought into the first team set up, is this true? i do like the look of him!

This may be my lack of knowledge but i've always been under the assumption that wilson was closer to the first team than kent, has this changed recently?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - Kent has overtaken Wilson who has struggled of late and not made the impression that was expected of him at Crewe.}

31 Dec 2015 15:49:31
Kent also did well in the last preseason game when he came on.

31 Dec 2015 16:15:34
Wilsons call up to wales clouded what his progress was -minimal- kents the one!

Wilson needs more time but still unsure. Kents fantastic.

31 Dec 2015 13:15:03
Regarding Martin Caceres he is an intelligent CB who is also capable of playing at either full back slot. He knows how to stop play and is quick enough to make ground and cover our other defenders if caught out of position. He has played at the highest levels of European football for nearly a decade and with his contract up in June could be picked up for a nominal fee. He has never played in the BPL and it may come as a huge culture shock to him but he can speak with either Luis Suarez or Sebastien Coates about life in England and with several Spanish speaking players still on our books should adapt. He is first team quality and at his peak so should be challenging for a starting spot anywhere in our defence.

Believable3 Unbelievable0

31 Dec 2015 14:24:52
He is very experienced having played in two WC`s, played at Barcelona and has won titles with Juve as well as CL experience. I wouldn`t mind him at all provided he can adapt.

31 Dec 2015 13:15:01
We have weak links throughout the team. Goalkeeper, both fullbacks, midfield and further forward.
You then look to see if we have younger players who could improve them areas and be future first team players. Flannaghan and smith could be our future long term full backs. Flannaghan was fantastic when fit and firing and smith looks like he could be top drawer. Midfield we have rossiter coming though to challenge but he's not the midfielder we really need to improve. We need a top class passer and creater In a Scholes or alonso mould to play alongside henderson and possibly Can. Further forward we need more creativity and goalS A player in the shape of mahrez to play alongside cocoutinho/ firminho / sturridge / ings / orig.

It seems people are seeing the game in a different way from me. Players played good yesterday against a team full of professionals who are fighting for their survival in the Premier League. We were in their home turf to say the least. We came out of the game unscathed. What do people want? To troll over teams in the largest premiership in the world? With all the money coming in the Premier League now it will be hard even to beat the so called "low teams". It's good to appreciate our team which is still being rebuild by my favorite coach Jurgen Klopp. The future is bright and appreciate every victory no matter how dirty, the free flowing football will come with confidence from winning this scrappy matches you keep on criticizing. You'll never walk alone mates.

Believable15 Unbelievable3

31 Dec 2015 12:19:17
It's only a few saying that. We created a few chances, we looked generally a lot safer at the back with lovren and sakho playing well, I don't think anyone is annoyed with a win over a team which we genuinely struggle against.

31 Dec 2015 12:22:21
Nice one Kenyan.

31 Dec 2015 13:22:41
I was at the game last night an overall I thought we played ok against a team fightin for their lives. Yes we should of scored 2 or 3 but I'll take a scruffy 3 points if its on offer.

31 Dec 2015 14:22:48
It's hard for our 3 number 10's to make an impact when the oppositions plan was to hoof it further up field and over their heads. We played better last night than we did against Watford Newcastle and West Brom who got results against us playing a similar style.

31 Dec 2015 14:26:31
Well said Kenyan lad. Bang on.

31 Dec 2015 15:32:25
I saw the game and we played alright BUT we will need to play much better to beat WH, that much is clear. had we won by three goals, it would have been justified but there are still a few players who aren`t good enuff and unfortunately, they are the usual suspects because atimes, a couple went invisible. Klopp has seen that as well based on his post match comments so hopefully, we will improve. In our situation, we need points and we`re getting them and in the end, that's all that matters.

31 Dec 2015 15:49:55
Even Kloppo said we can be much better.
At the end of the day, at this stage in KloppI'd tenure, I'll take results over performances. Well done lads.

Happy new year to eds, reds, your nearest and dearest.

31 Dec 2015 11:52:54
Ed 01 - following up on your reply to Waro below - Surely lalana's inability to tackle is a non-issue though.
I've had the understanding that counter pressing doesn't necessarily require one to (be able to) tackle but instead just needs a handful to work as unit and force the mistake. (Pep's teams press passing lanes, while Ferve likes his players press and run pass the attacker while the follow up players look to intercept and play it forward) .
To me the major problem is the inconsistent fitness levels through the team. It's preventing the team from playing as a unit and lalana's is going to continue to look out of place a few of the others raise their fitness levels.
Lalana along with everyone else shone in the city game when everyone was well rested and able to press consistently.
What I'm getting at is maybe it's too soon to write him off and once everyone's fitness levels are up, and Hendo gets a handle on his heel, Lalana's contribution might be more useful to the team.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - it is never a non-issue, because when the opportunity to make a simple tackle is on, which will happen when you press, then you have to take it. Otherwise players will not be worried by the press as they can just ride out the pressure by keeping the ball when it is Lallana coming at them and that negates the whole press anyway.}

31 Dec 2015 12:22:20
With peps Barcelona team, Xavi and iniesta were both good tacklers, I watched them at the camp nou and was so surprised in how well they got their bodies in front of loose balls and regained possession. I think it was ed001 who said the reason they sold Fabregas was because he couldn't tackle like Xavi, causing Xavi to play more than he should of, shortening his Barcelona career. Same with Bayern, whoever they play, Vidal, Lahm, alonso, they all are good tacklers.

31 Dec 2015 13:37:59
Do you think he's capable of turning it round ed001 and fitting in?
I feel like if he was 5 years younger Klopp could coach him into a top top player but I'm not to sure he has a future with us, especially as he could still bring in some much needed funds.

{Ed001's Note - no, I can't see him ever being the player we need.}

31 Dec 2015 15:56:43
Ed is right. I saw Lallana bottling tackles and getting bumped off the ball like it was no joke. Borini shrugged him off the ball, of all people. Allen gets grief for this but even he gets stucking and does a few things right atimes. Seriously apart from runnining up and down the field which frankly anyone can do, what exactly does this guy offer? He doesn`t seem to know what he`s doing and keeps being invisible in every game recently and there`s no sign of improvement in his game. Can`t shoot, can`t score, can`t tackle, runs into trouble seemingly on purpose, loses the ball at will, i can keep going. Ed was right all along and I was wrong at the time we signed him. i thought he would be good for us due to his silky skills BUT he is getting worse and should never have been bought.

31 Dec 2015 11:08:29

31 Dec 2015 10:44:54
Anyone else think that part of the reason Firminho Coutinho and Lallana are not clicking with the striker is more to do with the quality and movement of the striker?

Believable8 Unbelievable6

31 Dec 2015 11:07:10
Anyone else think the Benteke is also responsible for the floods in North England this week?

I am really tired of this very typical type of argument in this site to find one player as a scapegoat and blame on him all the problems we have (before Benteke it was skertl and Mings) . Benteke has its own issues with movement, but he has nothing to do with how poor Firmino, Coutinho and Lallana are at times. They were all as poor when he was on the bench firt half against Leicester and most fo the game against Watford. Give him a break, he just won us two games this week, what else you want from him. These three have their own problems, especially in finishing but thier passing wasn't great either, nothing to do with Benteke.

31 Dec 2015 11:07:16
Think it has a bit to do with it, certainly making phil look average. Lallana and firmino not doing enough to warrant being in the side and that's not all bentekes fault.

31 Dec 2015 11:24:45
It's a nonsense to blame it all on Benteke.
Benteke hasn't even started every game.
He's not that type of striker so he's having to try and adapt his game. Will he get time? Probably because Benteke is a goal scorer, his record proves it. He's not the most clinical striker, but he does score goals.

31 Dec 2015 11:32:47
Fanobip I'm not blaming Benteke for everything as I still don't rate Skrtel and Mignolet either.
When he was on the bench Origi didn't show particularly great movement either so it's not just Benteke that's the problem.
My point was they'd have more options with a striker that fits our system better and actually does some work.

31 Dec 2015 11:52:49
I really want to see us play two upfront with Benteke plus Origi or Sturridge.

31 Dec 2015 12:16:28
I'd rather see 2 up front as well just gives you more options.

Then a front 2 of Sturridge and benteke looks good, best of both worlds movement and power.

Also fanobip people are putting all the blame on benteke but it will effect the people behind him.

If Sturridge was fit then I'm sure you'd agree coutinho would look a damn site better.

31 Dec 2015 12:30:45
Bentekers is 6'3 and built like a tank. Is this type of player suited to constant running? He'll always score goals though as he as good technique.

31 Dec 2015 13:26:34
Two up front for me every day of the week. Playin 3 number 10s isn't working. Sorry but i'm not seeing 28 mill of player in fimino sorry.

31 Dec 2015 11:27:49
Plenty of times Benteke was waiting for the ball into feet to use his strength and turn or play the ball off to someone but the ball never came.

31 Dec 2015 16:03:12
Benteke in terms of movement, was very good yesterday and some of his one-touch play with Firmino and Couts was good as well. If you are looking for a scapegoat, look no further than Lallana. We might as well be playing with ten men because the guy is getting worse with every game. he even bottled tackles and got shrugged off the ball by Borini of all peaople. Firmino was our best attacking player last night and Couts had a poor game because he seemed bent on scoring rather than creating. Stop bashing Benteke because frankly, it`s getting old. He shows good movement and scores, he gets stick. He doesn`t score, he gets stick while Lallana remains untouchable although he offers NOTHING else but running all over the pitch? NONESENSE!

{Ed001's Note - do you really think his movement was good? Klopp certainly didn't, nor did I. He was awful I thought, other than the goal, which he mishit or we would probably have drawn.}

31 Dec 2015 18:57:40
I guess we agree to disagree there, Ed. I know benteke needs to move his but but based on where he was before, I feel last night was an improvement albeit slight. I know that the bar is very low for him right now.

31 Dec 2015 10:36:20
Ed002 in your opinion do you think its working with playing Can and Hendo as the 2 central sitting mids taking turns to get the ball off the centre halfs? Klopp seems to have ditched using 3 centrally but i'm not sure either Can or Hendo has the defensive attributes needed?

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - Can is versatile and can certainly play in a defensive role but I would not get too wrapped up in formations.}

31 Dec 2015 13:12:50
I think against more attacking sides with more threatening midfields, we would probably see Lucas play their either as a 3 or 2. The game is won and lost in the midfield, when we are second to every loose ball, or do not win the balls in the air and do not counter press other teams that are pressing us as well then we don't get results. So for me can and Henderson have yet to be really tested.

31 Dec 2015 10:29:33
Edd001 Love klopp but I wish he would make one or two changes up front. Ibe and texeira are such quailty options for us and I'm sure they know how to work hard on the pitch. Don't understand mate why they aren't getting a more gametime, same with smith too.
Coutinhos not been having good performances but he has very few options other than to shoot. People are just static. Firminho is improving however.

{Ed001's Note - Klopp is giving them a chance to prove they can adapt to what he wants, but I do expect there to be a number of players being offloaded after recent performances. I do agree though, I would like to see some changes made but I trust Klopp knows what he is doing, even if I disagree with those choices. Coutinho is playing poorly, but he has nothing open when he receives the ball, unless he plays it back, which he does not want to do. Benteke is stationary, Lallana just looks to run towards the ball like a schoolkid, so we have no width, except for Moreno, as Clyne does not get forward enough. Firmino is moving around trying to do something, but we need players moving, not player.}

31 Dec 2015 11:16:05
A number of players off loaded ed? Even from the starting 11 last night or you mean in general.

{Ed001's Note - in general, though more than one player in the starting 11 from last night are in serious danger and playing for their careers.}

31 Dec 2015 11:42:56
Is this Lallana and Benteke ed?

{Ed001's Note - it is more than just two who are playing for their future with the club. Very few are safe.}

31 Dec 2015 12:01:47
Edd001 cylne hasn't been great defensively either. Flannaghan will need time and a good bit of time before coming back to full fitness and form but he will seriously be challenging for that right back spot. Same with smith and moreno. Smith looks a real option at left back for us and can cross some excellent balls.

{Ed001's Note - I got accused of being on Clyne's back, as I really do not rate him and fail to see what he offers. He can't cross, he struggles positionally and offers little to the side either attacking or defending. His shot was something, but he needs to be more decisive and do more of that. Right now, he seems to be caught between two stools and not doing anything. I hope he can change that given time under Klopp, but I do fear he will end up being another player we have overpaid for and will end up losing out on.}

31 Dec 2015 12:23:25
For me Allen, Lucas and lallana defo need to move on.

Allen offers no more than a kid will, Lucas has done well over the years but I just think its time to make a step up. Whether can can do that I don't know.

Then lallana is just the weakest of a packed position which we have in the team.

Time to bring a bit more pace back into the team and let's start getting around the back of the defence again instead of being restricted to 35yard wonder goals.

31 Dec 2015 12:27:02
We don't know his plans for this team, he may be playing the best options he has right now, but even though we might think they are playing well, and klopp might agree they still might not be part of the long term plans. I'm sure he will look to add pace eventually, I can't imagine playing 3 cams is ideal for him when he had the likes of rues, aubameyamg and kuba before.

31 Dec 2015 13:18:29
Be saying all my prayers milner doesn't walk back into the team when's fit.

31 Dec 2015 14:19:25
It is kind of frustrating to see the inbalance in our team. I'm glad we are still getting results and we look safer at the back against Sunderland, but you just look at the team and some players you do have to question if they are at the required level.

Allen looks to be out of the 1st team really, Milner, Lallana have been pretty poor. I hate criticising our own players i want everyone of them to succeed but some of them week in week out don't look like they really do anything.

Not surprising at all Ed01 is saying very few are safe, if i were Klopp i'd be thinking the same thing right now after the last few performances.

Hopefully by summer Mr Klopp brings in the players he wants and we can push on to have a great season.

I think we could get top 4 this season. If studge gets himself fit very very possible but we have ground out a few results now so that's at least something over a busy christmas period :)

31 Dec 2015 16:25:17
Allen, Lallana, Milner for sure need to get gone. As for Clyne, Ed again was right. When at the Saints, he looked pretty good but ED was right again. Ed had once said at the time that Ronald Koeman builds a system that allows players to work together and thrive under that system. now when you take them out of it, you then see how poor or not so good they actually are and we of all clubs, have seen this first hand with Lallana, Lovren (who is starting to emerge to his credit) even Schneiderlein at Utd and now Clyne. I hope Clyne does a Lovren but only time will tell.

31 Dec 2015 16:26:21
In addition, I hope we never buy any Saints player again under Koeman because nothing will change (in conclusion to my last post.

31 Dec 2015 09:21:37
Result can be misleading at times in football. Yes, it looked like we sturggled to break the Sunderland defence yesterday, but in fact a lot of our problem was poor finishing.

I can think of at leas 4-5 great chances, starting with the very good pass that Firmino got early first half that left him alone against the keeper in the box which he couldn't control, a real waste. He then had a very easy header which he directed straight at the keeper, and his fantastic shot out of the box which the keeper defelcted to the post needed milimiters to get in. Ibe had a fantastic chance in front of an almost open goal second half which he kicked to the sky and of course Benteke's awful miss alone against the keeper second game in a row. And we know coutinho, when his foot is 'in the right mood' can hit the goal with his out of the box shots which he took twice or more yesterday.

I am not saying this is an easy problem to fix or that it was just a one off as poor finishing and being wasteful has been one of our main problems since Suarez left. Still you hope Klopp can do something about it and that it will improve with Origi and especially Sturridge fit.

It is always better to complain about these things when you win. BTw yes Sunderland has had their 2-3 half chances fortunately for us it was our own Borini on the end of them - talking about sturggeling to finish.

The most worrying thing for me though was what see to be the recurring heel injury from Henderson.

I think the fact that JK picks Origi ahead of Benteke when both fit tells you all you need to know about what he's trying to do. He knows the forwards on the pitch now are not out and out finishers. We need Sturridge fit and playing or an equivalent to really start to play how he wants us to. Yes, we could have finished better but Firmino, Benteke etc are either not finishers (in the case of Firmino) or not playing to their scoring strengths (in the case of Benteke) .

Klopp has taken over a squad that is not balanced and doesn't have the players or fitness levels to play in his style. It's going to take him 3 windows and a full preseason to start to get where we need to move to. If we can get to 4th having not had Sturridge for most of the season it'll be a great achievement.

31 Dec 2015 10:19:54
Yeah had very similar views my self and was actually more impressed with our overall game bar the last nerve filled 15 minutes or so.
2 winnable games coming up aswell no with west ham still struggling with injuries and could put us in a very good position as a side going into the arsenal game which I'm hoping studge could play a part if he gets a few minutes in the cup possibly?
Anyway next step has to be improving the goal difference and trying to create a bit of a gap on teams below us before looking up!

31 Dec 2015 14:24:15
Very well said instanbul! No studge who really when he plays just makes it look too easy, you can appreciate just how good his movement is at times.

We all know how unbalanced the squad is, we have players really who all play through the middle, minus moreno and ibe, even clyne doesn't offer as much width as AM,

I think this is one reason partnered with poor finishing as to why we find it very difficult sometimes. Teams who pack the box and defend solidly expecting us to be on the attack. We have no width and lack the technical ability in certain players to break them down quickly with fast passing. So teams can stay compact and the crosses which do come in are pretty dire usually. If we had more natural width and force a little bit of space from defenders it could make a whole world of difference especially if crosses get sorted out!

31 Dec 2015 15:25:41
If we lose west ham its back to sq 1.

31 Dec 2015 10:51:58
Benteke has two game winning goals. What more do you want? Him to work and run but not score?

At least give him a break whilst he is scoring.

31 Dec 2015 07:46:07
Hi all,

Hope everyone has had a good Christmas. Sorry I haven't provided a loan update recently, with Christmas etc I have just been to busy!

I'm back now though šŸ˜

Hard fought win and back to back clean sheets which is always nice to see.

Just thought i'd let you know there's an article on sky sports (not that well written) about Danny ward. It highlights how well he's doing and has some pretty big praise towards him.
It mentions how he has had meetings with klopp and klopp is keeping a close eye on him which is always nice to know.

Anyway redmen. Have a good new year and here's hoping to another 3 points Sunday.

3 points on Saturday would be nice as that's when we play west ham.
If we get points on Sunday too then great šŸ˜‚.

31 Dec 2015 08:48:46
Anyone know the reason as to why there is no new years day football?

{Ed002's Note - The games are on at the weekend.}

31 Dec 2015 05:38:11
We won a hard fought game. 3 points level with United. I will take that.

Lots of moaners in here. downers : (

Anyways, Happy New Year in advance to all EDS, REDS and LFC.

Good result against a poor but resolute Sunderland team. Although we didn't really perform the three points is all that matters. Sakho and Lovren were very solid although Lovren did make a few positional errors which lead to nothing fortunately. Emre Can was IMO the best player on pitch, the guy is pure class and only 21! Coutinho wasn't up to usual high standards and Lallana was anonymous which is becoming a regular occurrence. Firmino showed glimpses of his talent, I feel he's only going to get better. Benteke took his goal very well but apart from that he really didn't offer much. Hopefully with a few signings in January we can make the top 4.

AL seems to not be on the pitch really, it's a shame but don't think he's up for the task at hand!

RF is very hot and cold i feel, you see glimpses but can go missing sometimes but you cannot doubt his quality! Hope he gets rolling!

30 Dec 2015 23:51:41
Just a request to any kindred spirits (or ed's) - can anyone tell me how we played tonight? I've obviously read match reports and seen the score but would like to know how we performed, who did what, who shone, who sank, etc etc. I would of watched the game but was having a meal with my wife celebrating her birthday. Any insights are greatly appreciated.

I would say is was much of the same, i liked Hendo and Can rotating in midfield receiving from the CBs and starting play. Sahko and Lovren looked reasonably solid, its upfront where we stall in the final third. Narrow and not enough penetration joined with a fairly static Benteke. He showed for balls wide at times but if you compare him a better striker, he should be coming short to link with a midfielder then busting a gut to stretch the defence running into space for a return ball. He rarely does that. He also missed a sitter aka Leicester right at the end. If the 3 number 10s were making runs wide and in behind regularly we would be a completely different side.

31 Dec 2015 09:43:20
Cheers north, appreciate the reply.

30 Dec 2015 23:53:25
So, Skrtel out injured the last two games.
2 cleans sheets and haven't looked troubled.
Interesting.

31 Dec 2015 01:20:42
He is always the weak link in our defense line.

31 Dec 2015 09:29:00
I have a feeling that unlike previous regimes, he won't be straight back into the team for a change too.

31 Dec 2015 13:05:58
What about the three consecutive clean sheets in the first three matches of the season, with Skrtel in the team?

I happen to agree that we've looked good with Lovren and Sakho together. I see no reason to change this when Skrtel is fit and it's no secret we've struggled for a reliable and consistent pairing at the back but it does annoy me when people highlight the stats that support their argument whilst completely ignoring the stats that don't fit.

Furthermore, last nights clean sheet confirmed Mignolet's status as having kept more clean sheets that any other keeper in the Premier League this calendar year. Skrtel would have been in front of him for the majority of those.

31 Dec 2015 15:08:16
Mignolet stats read well, and would be even better if we had a stable and consistent pairing in front of him.
Lovren is playing better and Sakho is great defensively, although his distribution from the back leaves a lot to be desired.
For now I would stick with Migs, but if we had the chance to sign a CB who could offer good competition, I would take it.

Thankful we got 3 points, but honestly, the performance was woeful.
Lallana is so poor it is unbelievable, gave the ball away, way too often.
Benteke took his goal well but played generally very poorly.
Firmino showed a couple of glimpses, but even with a full season behind him by next May, I cannot see him making a mark in the EPL.
Coutinho was very out of sorts and Klipperty should have brought him off earlier.
Lovren was our most steady and consistent performer, and I can see signs that JK now realises what a mammoth task he has to turn this current squad, into a coordinated group, that can consistently deliver.

31 Dec 2015 01:32:08
Last year i'm sure you would of (like the rest of us) called lovren 'deadwood' or a 'waste of money' and now he's getting praise and looking the part.

Whu won't firmino?

Firmino once the team clicks will bang the goals in, he should of had 4 in the last 2 games. A big one was a tap in when prigo burst through and took the shot on a tight angle, a little slide to Roberto and it was a tap in. There was evidence tonight that's its going to click.

31 Dec 2015 14:57:07
Paulo, I respect you have an opinion, but it is different to mine.
Lets start with Lovren. Yes I gave him praise for his performance last night as it was steady and he has started to show signs of consistency. However, I would still drop him like a hot potato if we could bring a better defender in, as he is not a Ā£20m defender and never will be, he lacks vision when he carries the ball upfield, and to me is average.
Firmino has shown some good touches, and on occasion played well, City being his best game, but more often than not plays really poorly
You mentioned nothing of Lallana who to me, is the biggest disappointment for a long time, Ā£25m paid for this kid, he is no better than Downing, our last big money disappointment in midfield.
Our scouting set up is poor, and our recruitment of players is reflected by that, hence we are one of the top four spenders, yet have eff all to show for it.
Don't mind peoples opinions, but this is how I see it, and nobody is going to change that soon, not even JK.
