Hi
Any chance of kaka on loan?

Why? He's lost his quality and would cost a lot in wagers. Real Madrid will want to sell not loan. He's knocking on in age.

I don't see why Kaka would a viable option for Liverpool.

the average for top four is 7-75 points, so to win this we need atleast 15 wins in th remaining 18 games that means we will have to beat 2 our of the big five and only lose 3 games
ali g

Last year it was 69 and the previous was 68.

FT

Top mafs man, respec !! Beardsleys Boot's

This year teams are really struggling. Id say 65 points might be sufficient.

This year it looks to be different it too close no one has taken off.

Just heard that liverpool are in pole position to sign theo walcott if he does not agree arsenal deal 90 k a week 5 yr performance base deal 10k per yr 25 goals all competitions increase per year and or 20 percent of any sell on fee, lets hope arsenal **** up his deal so he moves to us liverbird

just want to say love this site. Happy New Year fellow Reds

31 Dec 2012 22:37:16
Eds do we expect Sturridge to go through tomorrow as medical was done and you would expect all paperwork to have been done ready to go on jan 1st? Also seems likely as he hasn't made Chelsea squads at all even though he has been "injured"?

Rug red {Ed002's Note - Timing is not our remit.}

31 Dec 2012 22:22:42
I think this January will be about replacing the players we lost in the summer and the goals which come with them I know Kuyt, Maxi and Bellamy where hardly prolific goal scores we are missing around 20-30 goals a season Sturidge will be brought in to replace kuyt also because lack of strikers ince could replace Bellamy and that would leave us needing to replace one player maybe a Rodgers unknown gem also happy new year to all the posters, readers and Eds
cheers

31 Dec 2012 22:14:15
Hi folks and all the Eds, I hope 2013 will bring all the happiness and prosperity to you and your families, but I also pray that we make good use of the two transfer windows in 2013, we need to have a squad ready by end of August 2013, that can get us back in the top 4! Then push to challenge for the title!

Ed is there any chance diakite (the one who plays for Lazio) has been looked at his contract is up in the summer and it is reported Coates wants out any chance of us making a bid
Cheers,
Lfc Liam {Ed002's Note - Try the search function.}

31 Dec 2012 21:52:36
Expect Sturridge, Ince and a loan or two. FSG are being very stingy since they Kenny and Comolli wasted there money. Will prioritise an attacking mid and GK in the Summer, but no big names.

31 Dec 2012 21:34:11
Hi guys,
I am friends with a guy called Dave Moss, who is the head scout for the academy. I always naturally try to get some juicy gossip off him which is usually pretty fruitless, but he did say this morning that Suarez will almost definitely be a Lfc player next season because he wants to see whether we make the right purchases to progress with him.
Other than that, BR is looking at a number of very high profile stars to give the fans and the team a lift. He did say however that it will be extremely difficult to capture any of them. Sturridge is apparently really enthusiastic about playing for us and wants to repay the faith as soon as poss. He has been unhappy for a while now.
Sorry if that was a bit lethargic, but it's better than nothing and at least it's reliable!
Happy new year troops.

Kevin

Hope that's all true, Kev

Hope Dave doesn't take it too personally!

Liverpool lining up Gameiro loan according to Tony Barrett.

Eds - do your extensive intelligence networks support this rumour?

Red Machine

If only Tony Barrett were reliable I'd be happy unfortunately he's proved in the past to be rather unreliable

Chris in Tamworth

Weird. i just made this exact move on fm2013

Agreed Chris. Unreliable is rather a generous understatement if you ask me.

Hi eds. Do you think, if chelsea sign falcao and Ba, would liverpool consider re-signing Torres? Thanks {Ed002's Note - No.}

If chelsea sign falcao torres will be going the other way

Hi Eds, I heard about the Xabi Alonso rumour and was wondering if you could tell me if he would consider a return to Liverpool. {Ed002's Note - See aearlier answers.}

31 Dec 2012 20:32:25
negatives of ba:
injury prone---kneee
high salary ---over 90k-100k
abit old- 28 in may 2013
ridicullous agent fees
7.5 mil clause only for champs teams

pros:
proven goal scorer

i think sturridge would be a better option , would do u think??

Any chance of Gourcuff in either jan or in the summer? Thanks Eds!

31 Dec 2012 17:10:37
Hi eds, three questions about LFC.

-I recently read that Xabi Alonso and Sahin were speaking, and Sahin has persuaded Alonso to return to Anfield. Is there any truth in this, and if not, do you think he would consider returning to 'save' Liverpool?

-I also read that David Villa is finding it hard to settle back into the Barcelona team and he thinks a move to the Premier League would put his career back on track and apparently, Liverpool are leading in the race to sign him. If a bid is made, do you think he would consider it? (mainly because he would probably play in his favourite central role)

-Finally, and this is every Liverpool fans' dream, could Fernando Torres come back to the kop? Apparently, Torres thinks the only way we will ever see the old him again is if he returns to Liverpool. And because chelsea aren't guarenteed a Champions League spot, would he consider it if Rodgers made an offer?

Obviously Liverpool cant afford all three of these players, but can i hear what you think of these possible signings. THANKS! {Ed002's Note - I am sure that Alonso, Villa and Torres will be at Liverpool next year .}

Its not this liverpool fans dream.

Please dont speak for me.

'Every Liverpool fans dream'? I don't think so. Torres of 2009 and Torres of 2013 are light years apart

31 Dec 2012 17:09:47
Hi Eds,
Can Pescara's Vladimir Weiss sign a pre-contract in January for a free transfer in the summer? Does Junior Hoilett have a relegation clause in his contract?

31 Dec 2012 20:24:12
we cannot buy our way straight back to the top

we have to build our way there

build remember

sturridge not the best out there but maybe the best we can currently get. is he an improvement yes>>. will he win us the league no but he might get us into a position where we can buy the players that can help us to win the league. some upporters just whine go out and buy this guy like llorente, why would he come to midtable liverpool when italian champions are after him.

there is a bracket of footballers we should be looking at emerging talents set for superstardom

sturridge ince aubameyang holtby adam maher jordy clasie and possibles like bony mertens walcott .

no one above these levels will join in january maybe in the summer if we can get a decent charge towards a champions league spot going in the second half of the season. whichn is possible if sturridge chips in with ten goals, borini with a few to add to suarez s tally

Agree with Macca "Again my major concern is how long will Suarez hang around while we are rebuilding, who would blame him if he wanted to leave."
BR is also saying something along these lines, I'm wondering if it is a hint to FSG or early warning to soften the blow to the fans. We need to build and not only keep the likes of Suarez, but attract more top quality.

23 years running...the renuilding........

This is what Aldo and Rush said on a website during the Xmas period.

31 Dec 2012 20:36:13
regardless of downings form, he should be sold, he is perfoming only on random occassions, for me a prem league Liverpool player needs to form a string of perfomances to show his worth
Ali g

He may be given for some good money but now i dont think liverpool should risk out any players because we are currently 9th placde i think it would be a better idea when we see how he plays against sunderland

The very nam'downing' annoys me for some reason

31 Dec 2012 21:12:59
If we do sign Danny Sturridge and Tom Ince, then I will say its a good shrewd piece of business by Liverpool. Both can operate anywhere along the front three.

Sturridge for 12m and Ince for 6m, makes it 9m each average, for two players that will enhance our team, and help us push on higher up the table. These two players combined will cost less than Downing, and half of what we paid for Carroll.

We are not in the position, like Macca says, to get world class players at the moment, but who's to say that these two signings won't be world class in next 2-3 years? They have every chance, especially if they start to bang in the goals. Also they are young and hungry to be a success.

All we need to do now is persuade Joe Cole to go to QPR and get his horrendous wages off the bill. That will enable us to pay the wages of both Sturridge and Ince comfortably.

Stromberg

Means 9 mil for a championship onder player??
yes ofcoure y not..20 for downing, 16 for hendo, 15 for allen and 35 for caroll...

Why did Fenway allow Dalglish up £100m transfer kitty and drastically low figures for Rodgers? Will they free up funds once we cut the wage bill, or did they think it is a mistake to give that much again?

He has tro prove hi9mself i9n stages

They employed Rodgers because he managed Swansea successfully on very modest funds.

Martinez was the other candidate, another manager who has staved off survival multiple times on very modest finances.

31 Dec 2012 19:23:13
hi ed do you think downing good form is because he wants to show howw good he is to other clubs like or he just wants to be in starting 11 and will you keep him or sell him in this window {Ed001's Note - he wants to be at Liverpool, he has always wanted to play for us. When I went to watch Boro train, as my parents used to live in the same village as their training ground, he pointed at my Liverpool shirt and said he would wear that one day. Told me that was his dream to play for us. I personally think he was just struggling to come to terms with reaching the dream and the bad start he made destroyed his confidence. Now he is not having the bad luck of hitting the bar and he is starting to look a player again.}

Edoo1 massively agree downing has not been as bad as everyone thinks the amount of chances hes created for the team last year and they all missed or hit the wood work is unreal then all the times he did the same lets not forget man of match cup final i believe in sd and for me hope we keep him along with hendo who again is very under rated by everyone cheers

grego

I believe it may be unwise to sell SD at this time. He should be allowed to continue his good form and more importantly he has been used at LB and with Enrique injured for a while he may be useful there. I don't understand why people would want him sold on when he is running into his best form for us. Give him until the summer and if his form continues ...great, if it dips again then sell him.
HNY and all the best for 2013

Hi Eds and reds, Happy New Year to you all. I was racking my brain about what to give the Eds for Xmas but it's so hard to find something for someone who has everything! However, with the transfer window about to open, I thought I would send the Eds:
1. Red Bull to keep you guys awake as you'll need it judging by the hours you put in the previous windows;
2. Prozac to keep your nerves in check as I know I'd be a jibbering wreck reading some of the posts;
3. Viagra cos I'm sure you'll need some fun when you get time!

Note also that Prozac inhibits premature ejaculation so the effects of Viagra would be doubled for the ladies in your lives!

samp

Haha Brilliant.

I wouldnt want the viagra .can knock a nail in with this ???

The more I've watched of Liverpool in the past month the more I've started to think we need a decent old head in the side as a catalyst to kick-start us.

I'm not oblivious to the obvious benefits of the FSG/BR transfer model - and I'm not saying that a signing of the magnitude of Schnieder is needed.

But you must all remember the impact Gary McAllister had on our team back in 2000/2001, even Robbie's second spell seemed to invigorate the dressing room and provide some good returns towards the end of the season he re-signed.

So we've all (almost all) railed against the transfer policy in the last 3 or 4 years - put yourself in the position of the manager/board....

Where do we need an experienced player, and what are the options for an older experienced player to come in on reasonable wages/outlay and do a job?

Top of my wishlist would obviously be Xabi but that might be unrealistic, likewise Drogba may be too expensive to qualify as a bargain.

I think I'd throw a bit of money at Theirry and see if I could sway him from the short loan spell at Arsenal to come up here and work with the likes of Suso and Sterling for a few months. Kevin Nolan would also be a player that could really have a sunset moment at a big club.

A truely romantic suggestion would be pulling Super Dan back from Blackburn to help Stevie bring on our young midfield (also give Stevie a well earned break here and there).

Anyone else got suggestions....

31 Dec 2012 21:06:02
Robbie Keane?

:p

- Something Red -

Joey Barton

Frank Lampard would do a much better job than super Dan

31 Dec 2012 18:38:52
just a word for sterling lets hope he can be managed in a better way than micheal and robbie we had two of the best talents in the game and for different reasons both never fully fufilled there talents one just has to look at the way ferguson gets not just the best out of his players but they have all had longevity lets hope were still talking about raheem in ten years time!

31 Dec 2012 18:35:22
Liverpool need a plan B I dont understand why we don't keep Andy Carroll it makes perfect sence:
We need another central striker for cover for Suarez, we don't want to move Suarez out of the centre... With sturridge coming to bring goals from the right to... Carroll would be a great back up to have... No transfer fee and a decent bench back up... Instead we're gunna end up selling him for 8/10 to Newcastle for some reason!
Anyone agree? {Ed001's Note - so you want a player just to sit on the bench in case things are going wrong? Wouldn't we be better just getting plan A sorted first, then worrying about back up players?}

Yes that's what every other team have someone who can come off the bench an maby change a game in our favor... Dzeko baloteli/Hernandez welbeck top teams have good bench players! {Ed001's Note - yes, but they also already have a strong first team to play plan A. We don't. That has to be priority. Any other idea is idiocy.}

To be fair the OP has got a point with us needing a plan B. It's about being able to mix it up a bit when we need to. look at Dzeko for Man City. When he comes on Man City change their style of play. However I do believe Carroll is definitely not the answer. like you said Ed001 we need to sort out plan A first, but as you know the whole point of having the bench is to be able to bring players on who can make a difference. It's not good when we are desperate for a goal and we do not have a strong enough bench.
Rodgers will know this! Let's hope FSG give him the financial support he needs.

Red Lee

Did hanibal, ba , face and murdock need a plan b or did they wait for the plan to come together ?

Caroll brother is here???

31 Dec 2012 18:28:18
hope sturridge is ready to play for the shirt if he comes good to see some of the lads we paid big money for starting to enjoy there football hope its not another false dawn.

31 Dec 2012 21:12:43
I don't expect many players to play for Liverpool like their livelihoods depend on it. That, unfortunately, is not how football works any more. But if Sturridge has brains, he'll know full well that this could be his last oppurtunity at a big or prestigious club and he will play for us like his life depends on it. Unless he wants to go from club to club during his peak years without ever quite making it big like Darren Bent.

He won't break his arse for Liverpool FC, at least not at first, but he might break his arse for himself. It's not ideal, but if he puts the ball in the net, it'll do.

- Something Red -

31 Dec 2012 20:04:31
U think Sturidge chose Liverpool because of the money? He could simply have sat on the bench at Chelsea, see out his contract and live a free agent.

Sturridge thinks hes amazing, he has alot to prove and he knows it! I personally think he is a brilliant buy, we need players with a bit of arrogance about them instead of sitting on their wage.

JOZLFC

31 Dec 2012 18:01:41
hi ed what do you think of this---The Spain striker wants to leave but the Catalan club are holding out for a big fee and permanent transfer............. WHY dont we pay the fee, so what hes getting no younger but he is the man to fire us into the champions leage. I would spend my whole budget on him, look at raul and hes age hes still banging them in would do you lot think.... {Ed001's Note - Villa? He has had terrible injuries, it would be a huge risk.}

31 Dec 2012 21:03:15
Villa wants a central role. Is he going to get that berth before Suarez. Answer = No. A huge gamble to take for a guy who has had a serious injury over the last year. In regard to Caroll he's not that good a plan B. You won't need a plan B if Brendan gets 2/3 players with genuine quality.

31 Dec 2012 18:19:04
A very happy & prosperous new year to all members of the liverpool family..support the manager , players and the team to the core & hopefully with a successful window we will have a fantastic second half of the season..YNWA..

Happy New Year chaps from a United fan. I'm glad the road to justice has been started for the 96 and I hope those responsible get their just desserts. Looking forward to the game at Old Trafford, even if it is no longer a top of the table clash (sorry, couldn't help myself).

We will forgive you this time for the little pun :).

Thanks AJH, you may mock but you still think of/fear us or you wouldn't be here.

Same to you on the New Year wishes and you'll understand that I hope we take enough goals or points of you to ensure another title doesn't end up at OT.

Hang in there AJH I think you still have a good chance of staying up there!

31 Dec 2012 18:16:13
Thomas Ince, 21: 13 goals & 11 assists so far this season = £6M-£8M

Wilfried Zaha, 20: 5 goals & 3 assists so far this season = £10M-£15M

I know which one i'd rather have. Don't believe the hype created by a few fancy step-overs.

AsianRed {Ed023's Note - We scouted Zaha before the hype and found that his end product is wasteful (via Ed001) }

Bang on about Zaha, I've watched him a few times and I really don't know what all the hype is about. He's OK but doesn't even stand out that much in his own team. I think he would really struggle in the prem.

31 Dec 2012 18:13:10
Hi, Daniel Sturridge here. Just want to let you all know that I have signed for Liverpool. Unable to play on Wednesday night but will be available to play in the FA Cup on Sunday against Mansfield. YNWA {Ed023's Note - Thanks Daniel, very kind of you to drop in. Also, what have you requested for your evening meal on Wednesday? I heard the chef does a brilliant Big Mac meal, you should get that!}

Sorry to inform you Daniel but I will be going for yesil against Mansfeild. I like your optimism. see you soon.

Brendan Rodgers

Brendan, really disappointed that you can't spell Mansfield so I'm handing control over to Colin Pascoe while you sort yourself out.

John Henry

Hi EDS and fellow reds.
I have been a Liverpool fan all my life (47 now) and my boy who is 11 is also a fan.
I live down south but would love to take my boy to some games but have found that tickets are hard to come by.
Anyone with any ideas would be much appreciated.
All have a great new year and here is hoping for a successful 2013.
Many thanks
Paul

Just become a member

Not sure if you have tried to join a supporters club down there but some put buses on for home games . Could be the best way . Happy new year to all reds and eds .

Try for the Europa games first then fa cup .keep your eye on liverpoolfc /tickets on website you will get some just check most days if you can .

Turn up early at games and ask everyone you see, you will get tickets at face value! i do

Just keep checking the ticket section on the website mate, i know the sunderland game has a limited number of tickets available, category c games often have a number of tickets that go on general sale, its difficult to get ticket access to games against everton and united if you arent a season ticket holder and to get tickets to a game against chelsea and arsenal etc its almost impossible unless you are a member. Ive gone to every home game this year without being a season ticket holder as me and my dad have membership, just means a lot of time waiting at the computer as soon as tickets go on sale!

alan partridge

Bag yourself a membership card from the club mate and target those "unwanted" games is the best bet liek the group stages of the europa etc. prem games are extremely hard to get tickets for.

Join your local/nearest LFC supporters club - Not being smart here, but IMO its the best way to get to a game at face value (+ the membership fees).

Digger

Go on the Liverpool website and buy some now mate. There's plenty on general sale for Sunderland game.

Ozone

Paul. Include your email in a reply and I will sort you a couple of tickets in the new year

Thanks for all your input, really appreciate it. Will try and see what i can do. Midweek games are out of the question as so far away with work, school etc. All have a great new year.

Hi fellow reds and ed's first of all i am wishing fellow liverpool players fans and of course ed's a happy new year now i will tell you who i think will sign in january first sturridge will sign on a fee of 7 million and then ince not sure how much and butland and aswell as ince im not sure how much he will sign for joe cole will leave and maybe a few kids will go out on loan hopefully we will be able to sign ba and if we are very lucky villa on loan but the second one maybe a bit unlickely comments ed's?

have a good new year!! {Ed001's Note - I am not convinced the Ince deal will happen, his priority is playing footie, he will get guaranteed first team football elsewhere.}

You can't complain about his reasons as he is probably making the right decision.

Hi guys not posted for a while just a few thoughts to share
1. I'd love liverpool to sign Snijder! Very good player will open up alot of defences for suarez and I think it would lift players like gerrard and suarez to thier top game with just his presence and help teach the younger lads too also it sends out a message to the fans and the other teams that Liverpool have a real desire this year to get up the table
2. I dont get this negativity towards BR, he's won me over with some fantastic football that I've seen this year and then Edds are right, with a good finisher we would have won a lot of the games we've drawn or lost this season and that could have spured us on to win all the others.
3. I will have to comment on Sterling, its too early for him to be starting games he doesn't look as confident anymore and the poor lad gets shouted at by frustrated team mates throughout the game it must be hard for such a young lad
4. Personally Sturidge fits the bill as back up for Suarez, but more experienced cover is needed for the Rw/Lw positions and a new LB wouldn't hurt either

YNWA Positively Red
Cheers

He gets shouted at for his decision making and his wastefulness

31 Dec 2012 16:13:26
l think liverpool need a bit of experience up front players like klose drogba micolli di natalie, they all still have a lot to offer would help the young players as well, mark

It would be cheaper to get Robbie Fowler to coach our young strikers. aklfc

So we need players in their mid thirties with massive wages, hmmmmmmmmm!
think about it?

HELLO EDS, all these fans worrying and getting excited about the transfer speculation, i heard Xabi Alonso may be back in the summer , can i come to?, What do you think ?? Happy New Year !

Is that Luis Garcia?

Rickie Lambert from Southampton?
Liverpool lad, loves the club and 8 goals already this season.
Could be the new John Aldridge

There'll be some ill informed people out there wyho wont give him a chance and say he is a championship quality player

Kevin Nolan's a Liverpool fan also maybe we should sign him up too

Like the first post for ambition, but this is a rumour site, not a fantasy site, and the guy is not for sale, so you might as well say "I saw Messi play recently, so let's get him!"

Lambert is wanted by a number of Premiership clubs but he is not for sale and will stay with Saints until the end of the season (at least.) More likely that Suarez will go to Saints in January to link up with his pal Ramirez!

Hes in his 30s already

I'm a Liverpool fan - how about giving me a chance up front?

31 Dec 2012 15:50:32
Hi Ed. As I understand it, West Ham are paying Carroll's wages in their entirety as part of the loan agreement. Do you know if this is likely to be Liverpool's position regarding other possible loanees (Cole and Downing seem to be those most frequently mentioned), or would FSG be willing to cover a proportion of their wages? Thanks as always for any thoughts. {Ed002's Note - I don't see a loan option for Joe Cole as efforts are being made to find a financial solution that would see him leave. If Downing were to go on loan to Boro, I would think the clubs might need to cover part of his wages.}

Thanks for the reply ed, and a Happy New Year to you.

31 Dec 2012 21:17:10
Sod all point in sending Downing on loan, imo. Especially if we won't get a full wage contribution for him.

He won't ever be "worth" his transfer fee to us, but that's been paid and we can't get it back. So we have to think in terms of whether he's worth what we'd get for him. And that's why I'd only want to see him leave on a straight transfer.

Sending him out for some of his wages, let's say half, doesn't strike me as worthwhile. I'd rather spend the extra 30-40k a week to have him available. He's not half as bad as some people make him out to be.

As someone stated their wishes for 2013...

Well, according to Feng Shui, 2013 is the year of the snake. So why don't we start a-fresh, shed that old skin and get our identity back...

I've supported Liverpool for 22 years(I'm 31), so I've experienced plenty of highs and lots of lows too. Truly, I can't put into words how disappointed I am with our Owners(previous lot).. Look how quickly we've slipped away from the top, in a matter of years.

You could blame Chelsea for destroying the market, perhaps Man City...In my eyes, it's our own fault we didn't capitalize our 'brand' years ago. Our (Owners) fault... We've fallen, taken a few to the ribs, been blind sighted to the back of the head. But we WILL rise, knuckles red and head held high. Hey, It's 'only' been 22-23 years since our last League Championship. I can wait... :)

Anyways, forget ifs and buts....What I miss the most is US.. being US. It's the thing that irks me the most. I'm so, so proud to be a Liverpool fan. But the in-house squabbling, bitterness and plain ignorance of some fans is embarrassing. I've certainly ticked a few of the aforementioned boxes since 2008..

My New Years resolution is get my(our) pride and identity back. Be what a Liverpool Football Club supporter should be.

Loyal
Humble
Knowledgeable - that mistakes are made and you 'learn' from them...
Appreciative of other teams

Here's to a great 2013, Happy New Year everyone!

Lee YNWA

22 years? Not many highs then...

I wrote the post about the 2013 wishes Lee and I agree with you!

We all need to start pulling in the same direction!

United Kolours Of Bennetton

You've been supporting the reds for 22 years and we haven't won a title for 22 years, ever thought it might be that you're a jinx?

I'm age 22 and often think i might be a jynx...

x

Haha, Jinx you say? 0_o

Luck is a state of mind “ the more you say I'm not luckyť, the more unlucky you will be¦ the more you trust that you will have all the luck you need, the more you say I am LUCKY!ť.

For example, for a long while, I thought I wasn't lucky “ I rarely won anything “ but when I looked at my life, I realised that I have been extremely lucky “ friends, career, family¦ do you understand what I'm saying here?(tongue in cheek)

Lee YNWA

31 Dec 2012 19:26:58
Lee - Great Point,

However I don't want BR to start feeling lucky to be in the top half of the league, or lucky that we're still in europe, I'd like a dose of reality about now so we can accept the situation and ALL of us strive to move forward, whether that's new players, new ideas or new commitment to the club.

A lot of us have started to praise Downing and Henderson for turning it around, not to mention Lucas who went from most hated to most loved.

They all did it by assessing their situations honestly and having the belief that they can improve.

That should be our new years message here - it's OK to assess our situation and say "It's not good enough" and it's OK to say "We can improve ourselves and be better through unified belief and support". The two are not mutually exclusive - it's my New Years wish that posters on this board can embrace that and not dive in tearing each other apart at the next big win or loss, wins should be celebrated together - not pushed in the face of people who demand the best. Losses shouldn't be used as an excuse to abuse the optimist in most fans (why would you ever want to gloat over a loss?).

Happy New Year.

This window will define the ambitions of the board. I hope we get someone in who has major quality. We want the best players at the club so get your hand in your pocket and fork out on a decent f*****g striker.

So! Just how much they spend in a January transfer window shows how ambitious the owners are!!

Suprise MONEY again

Lyndon

Danny Sturridge is coming hope that floats your boat

No it won't. Jan is a notoriously rubbish for doing good deals.

31 Dec 2012 19:34:10
Hmmm, perhaps futher reducing the wage bill and future stability of the club for a larger spending spree in a more reasonable summer window vs. 2 hugely inflated signings in a winter that could only move the club from a 8th to 10th to 5th to 7th would show that our owners learnt from earlier errors.

Good post.

KJH

Like suarez 22 .5 million?

How could I mispelled Gerrards name? My fault for that. A quick question Eds. Any interest in the young keeper from Valencia? Thanks.

I would hate this to happen but could anyone see Rafa trying to rekindle the alonso/torres partnership?

I would love alonso back he would be great. Would be a good role model for the likes of suso aswell.

Cheers,

JD

Rafa and alonso had a fallout which ultimately resulted in him leaving the club.
derryred

Well if Alonso is going to rekindle the Torres partnership

He won't be wearing red?

And the Torres partnership was with Gerrard!

I think Roman Abromovic is looking to lower the age of his squad, and yes i think we would all love to have Xabi back at LFC!

Red Lee

Don't really care. Good luck to Rafa and to Nando but they are history to us now.

31 Dec 2012 15:06:30
I think I'd cry with joy if Alonso came back to LFC !

NS

Ya! We could do with another 31 yr old midfielder?

Lyndon

I weep too that we are buying 30 something year olds who are about to retire

So let me get this right!

So Calls for Gerrard to be dropped because he's had half a bad season and because he's now in his 30s and not quite as fit as he used to be
Buy its ok to buy a Alonso back in his 30s who's not pulling up many trees in la Ligamiles behind Barcelona

Brilliant player when here put lets move on

Lyndon

Used correctly like Lampard, scholes or Giggs - Alonso could offer experience, stability and ease some of the burden on our young midfield also I think it would help Gerrard with his game just know that Alonso was along side will give him confidence.

It can't hurt to bring a legend back!

NS

Stevie is still a good player, but I don't think he is the world class bracket anymore, all those extra special moments of class he used to show regularly are happening less and less often now, I think its just time has caught up with him.

Jas

31 Dec 2012 18:04:01
Lyndon, did you watch him at the Euros?
Looked alright to me.

Hounsred

So, we need experience because we are buying too much youth and then someone suggests adding experience they get shot down? Ye don't know what ye want!

Xabi and Stevie are totally different, the reason fans are on Gerrards back is because of the years he carried the club, now he is just another player in the squad as opposed to being everywhere on the field, they think he's crap, makes me laugh. Xabi will sit tight and ping the ball around for a good few yeas yet. Worth 10m easily {Ed001's Note - personally I think the problem is that he is being paid like he is the player he was, rather than the player he is.}

31 is not old for a player like xabi, he never had pace but he can see a pass .The lad could play well into his 30's.
Jayo

31 Dec 2012 19:00:12
What worries me is he said he'd move on if he couldn't play at his highest level for Madrid anymore.

I want Alonso if he's still awesome, not if he's losing his legs and wants to retire somewhere cushy!

WelshBoyDave

Alonso is not a Legend

He was a good LFC player thats it.

Kenny, Carra, Stevie, Tommy, Cally, Heighway, Clemence, Shanks, Paisley, Fagan, Hughes, Rush, Fowler, Liddell, Hansen, the Saint

These were Legends

One thing you need to realise about Alonso - when he was with us, he covered the most ground during the games by a distance (no pun intended). It was a big part of his game and I'm not sure that he will be able to keep up that level when he eventually leaves Madrid

The Jester

31 Dec 2012 15:02:06
I seem to be in a minority but that doesn't bother me - I like Allen and think he was a good signing and will be very influential for us for years to come. Yes - he can have an off day - it is expected even if not allowed on this page-

Puzzled

Of course he will he has already bossed a couple of games this season defensive midfielders are always underrated. If he were to get an injury perhaps people will see his true value.
derryred

Mainly you are in the minority

Puzzled

Yes, he is word class, truly remarkable, his impact on games is tremendous. Or perhaps your fellow posters are right, he's a run of the mill average player who you paid far too much for

AJH

Allen seems to divide opinion at the moment but personally think once he settles he will be a brilliant player for us think he is a gem of player, some players hit the ground running, some take a little time to bed in....
Paisley's genius

Joe Allen is a decent player ...I think he deserves to be in the starting 11 along side Lucas and Gerrard .... But I dont think he will be influential in years to come , I dont think he has it in him to be the next Gerrard or Alonso.

Roy

He is a good young British talent, that comes at a price these days, he is on relatively low wages too. Some fans will never be happy. Who do you want? Aqualani

AJH - I think we should point out on here for the benefit of other posters that you are a United supporter and as such would probably not praise ANYONE with a Liverpool link

Puzzled

31 Dec 2012 19:10:25
I don't think a player that divides opinion so much can be as average as he's made out.
Personally, i think he'll only get better and better, it's a really big move he's just made.

Allen came from Swansea aged 22, im 21 and live about an hours drive from Swansea, i cannot imagine uprooting my family and going somewhere totally foriegn.

This is bound to impact on him, along with being a new father and learning how his new teammates play. Much like Henderson, he's still learning his trade.

I won't say have you learn't nothing from how we treated Lucas, but remember he used to cry in the dressing room after games, and look at the player he is now.

As long as he gives his all, and wears the red shirt with pride and passion he will continue to have my full support, as would any player!

WelshBoyDave

31 Dec 2012 20:33:44
Joe has rakes of potential and plays better than his years suggest - the fact that pundits love him shows his benefit to Football.

He'll make himself available almost anywhere and a large percentage of the time he finds another team-mate regardless of pressure. He's never going to be a fashionable game-changer - just a pro that pro's love.

And yes, I know he's in a dip of form right now, but how many players his age have ever held a midfield role so consistently.

Top post welshboydave i personally like Allen & like you think he is going to be a top player, the comparisons with Lucas are apparent (what character that lad has eh?) that's why I think we should support the lad, when he is in a red shirt he is one of us. Y.n.w.a jft96
Paisley's genius

31 Dec 2012 14:47:43
i just want to wish all LFC fans a happy transfer day tomorrow

31 Dec 2012 14:36:55
David Villa
Wesley Sneijder
Fernando Llorente
Klaas Jan Huntelaar
Xabi Alonso
Alexis Sanchez

We probably won't sign any of these but it's nice to be linked with this calibre of players again.

Don't get too excited unless you base everything on newspaper reports rather than reality?

31 Dec 2012 14:35:47
Things I hope to happen in 2013

-Liverpool to sign D. Sturridge and hopefully another forward in the Jan transfer window

-Gerrard to get back to even close to his best

-Liverpool to finish in the top 4 in the PL

-The fans/supporters that get to attend the games to find their voice back! (Esp at Anfield)

-Trolls to stop infiltrating the this site

-People to start UTFSF/reading the posts before they post and stop asking the eds the same recycled questions

-Seeing and hearing less of Alan Pardew

-Old whiskey nose retiring at the end of the season and the nurses finally coming for him before the old man cracks it!

31 Dec 2012 14:18:23
Hi Eds. It's not strictly Liverpool based but why is there so much more hype over Wilfried Zaha than there is over Tom Ince?

J-L

Probably because he's got a "Z" in his name.

Square tomato

Because he does pointless step overs for show and everyone thinks its amazing.

Does anyone who watches that league think that they are of a similar standard?

Because Zaha has alot more potential. Just needs to be used in the right way.

31 Dec 2012 14:16:00
I think it would be easier ED002 if you just list the players who will NOT be joining us in January - I think it would be a much shorter list

Puzzled {Ed002's Note - As far as I know every player will be joining in January, or joining the list of players Liverpool missed out on.}

31 Dec 2012 13:38:51
Exactly how good is Tom Ince? Now I don't get the chance to watch the championship, and he looks a good young player on YouTube (like everyone else). But how good is he on the field, with regards to creativity and opening up defences? More of a No. 10 or a winger?

Any of you Eds, and fellow Reds please enlighten me so that I can look forward to his purchase.

Cheers, and a very happy new year!

Gogol

He decent but Isco Honda etc would beach better options.

They are also unrealistic options.

Why are the other two unrealistic.

Because we're not that good anymore.

Who would be the ideal replacement for Gerard? Thanks.

Bruce Wayne

Erikson, McCarthy or Shelvey with bit more experience.

James McCarthy for me mr Wayne

31 Dec 2012 13:06:01
At half the season, goals scored:

Liverpool 31
Arsenal 39
MU 50

We need to get a few more goals in as everyone knows, and we have converted few of our chances so were doing a half decent job. With other teams (lower) sitting at around the 22 mark in goals

Goals conceded, again we haven't done too badly although we've had some blunders, and horrible defensive work and all round poor performance we've kept the goal count down overall

Liverpool 26
Arsenal 21
MU 28

I took these three because MU top, arsenal in between (5th), us in 9th.

Not using these stats to determine our position in the league or anything. This season has been really close especially under the top 3 and hopefully next half we'll smash more goals in and get results!

BR did say the first half of the season will be difficult for us, so keep the hope lads, 4th ain't too far away! Our form is getting better, we are starting to play better and better, and granted 1 step forward 2 steps back but that's football, and strange things happen- support the boys that's we need to do! Pressuring them just makes things a tad bit harder being scrutinised for every little touch just thros your confidence.

Thank you. Rant over.

M

31 Dec 2012 12:47:00
Get a grip people BR is doing an outstanding job with what he's been given, hes brought through sterling, shelvey, suso and wisdom from the reserves exactly what everybody's been screaming for, unfortunately we missed out on certain targets and let Carroll go out on loan leaving us extreamly light upfront but with a couple of signings in this area were going to be ok.
Anybody other than a complete fool can see we're playing some of the best football we have for years, look at what Rodgers is doing as planting a fruit tree it has to be given time to mature or it won't bear fruit, all you want to do is chop it down and plant another seed hoping it will grow quicker.
We no longer have kuyt and maxi playing and the only players over 30 are Gerard and reina and carra when he pops on for a minute or two here and there.
Rodgers needs to be given until at least the end of next season before he can be judged on the team he's trying to create.
I for 1 are completely 100% behind Rodgers and fsg and if we're going to do it and do it right I'm more than happy to be patient I'm also super confident were going to take points away from both Manchester teams and arsenal over the next few weeks.
In Rodgers I trust
Jaydee ynwa

We can't take points off stoke but you see us getting something against the manchester clubs and arsenal? I think you are the one who needs to get a grip sir.

Nice post jaydee spot on like it.jay essex red for life red till dead, ynwa

I wish I had your eyes as I don't see what you do?

I am a fan of rodgers but i am fed up with people saying give him time thats all very well but i hate 2 break it 2 u but we are not in the 70s 80s where u could afford time u just dont have that luxury now it is a money sport and if u dont invest in the right areas u will be left behind it is as simple as that and for all those saying give BR time give me 1 excuse as 2 why BR did not buy a proven no9 in the summer the whole world new that was the first thing he done i for 1 have no excuse for that!! It was great to see Stevie run the show yesterday

He tracked back, he tackled, he done everything.

Its great to watch the Maestro at work.

Sour Puss

Against the worst team in the division.

He didn't turn up for the Stoke game tho!
Skyrtel and Agger were bullied out of the Stoke game as well as almost all of our team.
Souness must have been laughing his nuts off at our toothless display, if only he was 30 years younger, he was the best meastro (although, not as a manager)
Big Bill

Ah the gerrard haters are out today!

Happy new year to ye all!

Maybe Gerrard will be kidnapped by aliens and sure you can celebrate it!

Liberias31

Souness would not get away with the assults now he would be red carded

And Gerrard has 10 Times the technical ability of Souness

Souness was a good player but from a different ERA.

Arguably the best Gerrard moment this season has to be his slide-tackle on Fabio yesterday after the latter's 'over-enthusiastic' challenge on Sterling! Bloody Manc! Put rightly in his place!

Not a rumour just a question to all the lfc supporters.anyone else thing that bidding for ba is a must.£7 million.proven prem goalscorer!

He can't be insured so I would avoid him like the plague.

7 million for a player with a degenerative knee is stupid, why on earth buy a player who could breakdown at any time. And you'll be one of the one's complaining we bought a crock and wasted money on another player.
Would be like Andy Carroll all over again, buying an injury prone player for an extortionate amount then
letting him leavevwhen he doesn't cut it. Si
ps happy new year to all

We just need to get rid of high wages to poor players first and then I think we will get in players who are actually worthy of a decent wage.

i think that we all agree that the majority of clubs do not make a profit and are running at a loss. it will be interesting in the summers transfer window as to what transfers will be conducted. if it is true that next year the bottom finishers in the premier league will earn more than the winners of this year then it will possibly go crazy with clubs pushing transfer fees up even higher. with this latest television deal coming in would that mean even more players coming into this country? will clubs be allowed to spend the tv money before they recieve it? could be why FSG are making noises about summers transfer budget being higher than peole think. More money coming in will help all clubs but only if they keep the transfer fees down
robbie

OP Maybe FSG have a cunning plan to finish as near the bottom as possible to get more Money as you have outlined.

If so FSG are doing very well.

Prize winnings for places in the league go up by 70%. Now that's a lot of money for everyone. Will probably end up in agents and players pockets though

My wish list for 2013 and the remainder of this season:
1) Suarez continue his scoring ways; another 15 goals would be simply amazing.
2) A striker who can chip in with 10 goals (Borini or a new signing - doesn't matter).
3) Sahin in good form, so he can alternate with Allen as creative midfielder.
4) Lucas regain his form of last year and keep it for the season
5) A better replacement for Cole
6) A reliable CB to help Skrtel & Agger (Coates or another - doesn't matter)

In 9th place now. 5th or 6th doesn't seem impossible if the above holds true ;-) . ra1969

5th or 6th are just as useless as 9th.

If all of the above happened then i'd expect a top 4 finish.

Hi Eds and fellow reds, one quick question. If the paperwork goes through do you see Daniel Sturridge starting for us against Sunderland?

31 Dec 2012 11:52:23
Hi eds,

This is great site. Congratulation for your amazing site Eds. I've been following this site for over a year and have recommend it to my friends.

What's wrong with all the fans who have started to ask LFC to fire BR? Really can't understand. When Sturridge arrives, he will improve us a lot in term of attacking. Ince will provide depth. There's nothing wrong with both transfer. Hopefully we can offload Downing, Cole, Doni, Carroll, Spearing and other overpaid players in the upcoming transfer windows (January and summer). When this happen, our club's financial will be more stable. Really think that player should earn their place, contract and wages by merits (such as Suarez and Enrique).

Finally, I have a few questions for you Eds. What do you think of BR's work so far? How is the club doing in term of financial stability?

Hope you can answer my question eds. Thanks.
-a fan from Malaysia- {Ed002's Note - Rodgers has his planned approach to the game and it is working to some degree. The end of teh season might be a better time to ask. The club is progressing toward financial wellbeing - this year will likely see less losses than the past two years but I suspect we still have some way to go before we see a break-even.}

Working untill the opposition press from the back and we have the lone ranger in Suarez up top and we getbpushed back. The 451 is easily dealt with so don't get over excited ladies, QPR we're poor and it just shows what a poor manager Rednapp actually is without a war chest if he couldn't work out how to get the better of us.

Ozone

I can answer your first question, we are sick and tired of watching our team stumble to defeats and losses against teams who are lucky to be in the same division as us. Brendan Rodgers is an inexperienced manager who should be commended for having a clear vision of how he wants a team to play. The problem is he has not got the players to play the way he wants. A GOOD manager will use what he has at his disposal to give his team the best chance of a positive result. Brendan seems to think he can treat league games as training games and use them to try and get his players to play his way even though it is clear to the rest of us that this is not working. I would respect BR a lot more if he was pragmatic and was trying to phase in his ethos as he acquires more suitable players. Round pegs not fitting square holes etc.
Ultimately, Brendan should be given this window and the rest of the season, judge him on his signings and our position come May. For what its worth i think that this move was to soon and a poor fit for Rodgers. I personally would never have got rid of Rafa and strongly think that we should bear him in mind when his chelsea contract lapses. Rafa could get 4th with this squad. Remember when we used to complain about all those draws under Rafa? Well Brendan has changed those draws into losses and that is why we aren't in the CL any more.

31 Dec 2012 13:33:59
Nearly every prem club is running at a loss so dont know why you are always banging on about it...i suspect our financial forecast is significantly better than you think it is.

Our sponsorship revenue has increased 200 percent since FSG took and the wage bill has been reduced dramatically...if you take away the costs for new managers, coaching staff and compensation fees then our operation costs our not as dire as you seem to believe they are.

Take into account carrolls inevitable sale, j.coles removal from the wage bill and a couple of other fringe players off the books and suddenly we are looking very healthy.

You are very biased against us for some reason and always make out our finanacial situation is a lot worse than reality.

FSG are extremely shrewd businessmen...you are not.

FSG may be good businessmen although I would have my doubts but they are not good football men and thats the probelm

31 Dec 2012 11:40:28
The definitive situation with Coats.

Look guys its New years not yet Jan still mid winter and still the big chill to come.

Therefore it would be nuts to disgard coats so soon infact keep your coats on outside until well into April,

Dont cast a clout till May is out!

So we're signing kenny jacket?

Coates just not good enough another Insua

31 Dec 2012 11:28:39
every transfer window lots of posts on here wanting every tom dick and harry, then when the window closes everyone deflated, be realistic two signings (ince and Sturridge) expect no one else then if we do get anyone else it will be a bonus. FSG will not plough vast amounts of money to a manager that is yet to prove himself in the transfer market. As for players fitting our system a) what is this so called system b) im sure a professional footballer of premiership pedigree can adapt to any system

STEVE THE REALIST

So we need to settle for second best? Thought we were Liverpool football club, don't get me wrong I know we wont get cavani, higuain ect but what about Honda instead of ince and I'm sure a lot better players who are available and would want to come to us

Mickleburg

Not second best. its the best available willing to join a club in 9th position our great history may be an advantage to allow us to sign above our weight but top players want top level football i.e. champions league

STEVE THE REALIST

31 Dec 2012 11:22:02
Hope we can go on a run now boys, think we will beat Sunderland on Wednesday but goin to be a tricky one at old Trafford, hope we don't have the same ref we had at anfield what a joke that was! Sturridge to score on debut!

Don't worry too much about the trip to old trafford. LFC players show up in big games it should be ok.

31 Dec 2012 11:19:03
Totaly agree with u bud, we need to be realistic at the moment and hope, come the summer when our team has gelled some more, we can get in the quality players our much loved team deserves.

Wait, our team is still gelling? they have been gelling for to long

31 Dec 2012 11:14:59
I hear a lot of talk that Henderson is leaving?? Really give the kid a chance, yes he's had some abject performances but recently he's played fairly well in unfamiliar positions. He's young and still learning what it is to play at this level and at a club like ours. He will be good in a few years time and is only a squad player for now, give the guy a break ( as we have done with jonjo and look what he's doing!!)

31 Dec 2012 11:13:17
I was at the game yesterday and it summed up what our club is about. While waiting outside the ground for my friend I heard someone say even the touts have run out of tickets. I thought to myself that is no surprise as the mighty reds are in town. My friend arrived at the ground at 4:10 so I missed the first goal but the roar from the Liverpool end told me we had scored and it was Suarez. When we got into the ground Suarez and Agger quickly put the game out of reach. The Liverpool end was now in full voice there is not a better site in football. While sitting with the Qpr fans who shouted the normal chants of Scouse go and nick cars etc when Justice for the 96 was ringing out even the people shouting the obscenities shut up and showed respect which our great club has around the world. Onto the game the only disappointing aspect of the first half was we didn't get more we should of been more clinical in front of goal. The one area that concerned me in the 2nd half was the central midfield area. Qpr brought on Derry to stiffen up the midfield which allowed Diakte to push forward and he kept getting into pockets of space in zone 14. Allen who played ok he gave the ball away cheaply at times kept getting rolled too many times by getting too tight and against better teams we would get punished.
It was interesting listening to my friend who is not a Liverpool fan and he summed up what we are about at the moment he said Liverpool play great football but look like they could concede easily against a better team. He went through the team put out and said Johnson, Downing, Henderson were all good players who hadn't worked out for some reason therefore we are only a few players away from challenging.
The sooner we get Carragher involved in the coaching side the better what a knowledgable and passionate man who would make every player step up a level and not accept mediocrity.

Happy New Year to everyone and roll onto a successful 2013 as our great club is just that a wonderful football club that deserves and will get back to our rightful place winning trophies as long as we all pull in the right direction and work hard.

Johnson hasn't worked out? he's been the best right back in the league this season and has still not been removed from the england right back position despite an array of competition.
to put him into context, he was pretty much unplayable at left back too last season!

as for henderson, he was integral to the game being dominated by lfc yesterday until he was removed with a virus! i would be hugely disappointed to see him leave when his levels of performance currently are at that of allen & lucas.
he is also one of the major contributing factors to lfc progressing in the europa league this season.

s.p

Best right back in the league ? your a joke

Obviously not a joke unnamed poster, 7 agrees would suggest otherwise. no one has been able to remove him from the england squad under 2 managers for a reason and personally i believe his defending has got even better this season.
and just for the record its you're
not your especially when trying to be clever or derogatory even.
happy new year.

s.p

Johnson is quality. I think a lot of our supporters take him for granted.

31 Dec 2012 11:12:43
Some people are never satisfied. 'It was only QPR' but the same people keep saying we only ever perform against the top teams.
We win 3-0 but people say 'we took our foot off the gas' - well maybe we did or maybe Redknapp's changes affected things a bit? Either way we DID win 3-0 and perhaps we conserved a little energy for the next game, don't forget we have a small/thin squad AND there is a bug in the camp - maybe one or two were feeling the effects ?
We win 3-0 away from home - be pleased!! No-one thinks that all of a sudden we have turned the corner and it will be plain sailing from now .BUT we won - be happy for god's sake

Puzzled

You have beaten Norwich, Southampton, Reading, West Ham, Wigan, QPR & Fulham all of which are below you and you have dropped points against every other side who are above you or on par with you. I think you have found your level.

Ozone, you are the only Liverpool fan on this page who is realistic about your club and how much it has fallen.

Another year almost over, and I think were making progress. Not as much as we could have done, but we have a good young squad with a great mixture of world class talent. Lets wait and see how the boys can perform in the coming weeks before we criticise any of them , including BR !

Happy new year to all the EDs... youve all made our lives so much richer with your daily doses of wit and incredible football knowledge. This site is just so addictive and Im sure I speak for most of your readers in wanting to thank every one of you for a brilliant job done in 2012 ( ps especially ED001 and ED002 !)

A new years message to all negative posters.

Would you be so negative if we were top of the league?
Would you be so negative if we put away all our chances?
Would you be so negative if we were bringing in top talent?

Dont you get that things are only bad because they are about to get great!

We have one of the hottest talents in World football, Suarez? Sterling? NO Brendan Rodgers, any club would want this man to build a dynasty HE REALLY IS THAT GOOD.

We should always give our managers a fair crack and thats why I still call Roy gaffer.

We have great owners who have fulfilled their promose not to over promise infact they have under promised which is great cause its real.

Our progress is superb, we are back up to Hodgson level performance after so much change. The wage bill is being reduced WHY DO THE NEGATIVES NOT APPLAUD THAT?

We have 3 awesome looking kits and have been subject of a groundbreaking docu drama.

The future is bright

Does this post make any sense on any level ?

Hi All
Firstly, happy new year to all eds and readers of this site, just like to say well done to the lads yesterday, I think the real difference yesterday was that we moved the ball a bit quicker and a little more direct while still holding possession, just hope whoever we bring in hits the ground running as we cant afford any more transfer failures.

31 Dec 2012 10:52:31
Can Sahin be sent back to his respective club in January?

I don't necessarily believe these Sneijder rumours, but with rumours of Cole talking to QPR, surely these two players are paid a few bob on wages.

I appreciate that the owners are trying to reduce the annual wage bill, yet there is room for a high calibre player of some sort to slot in.

You never know...

DaveyBootle {Ed002's Note - Sahin is on a year long loan but has expressed concerns to Morais. I don't know if that means he will return to Spain or not. Joe Cole leaving will still cost the club a certain amount as has been explained.}

Taxi for Sahin & Cole

31 Dec 2012 10:51:15
Morning all.

Its been a while, just thought I would ask for an update on Sahin and Yesil as I'm struggling to find any good info on them. I'm pretty sure that Sahin is injured but do people know what the general feeling is around the club for how their Liverpool careers are progressing. I know Yesil was bought in for the reserves but after being taken off at half time in the cup I haven't seen his name mentioned in a squad since!

Cornish Red {Ed002's Note - Sahin has been injured, yes. He has also expressed concern at being played out of position to Moras at Real Madrid. Yesil is still part of the reserve squad and getting games on occasion.}

A nice positive post if i could agree twice i would keep er wet happy new year

31 Dec 2012 10:21:36
I would like to post this info for all the haters of BR. In the last 6 PL games, Liverpool, have won 4, lost 2 and scored 13 goals and conceded 8. That's an amazing turn of results and despite the two defeats, Liverpool are now showing the right qualities to to finish in the top six!!

A few good additions in January and we will be a very hard team to beat.

Yet people still disagree. It's fact you plonkers YNWA

Because QPR were amazing yesterday? Look villa smashed us 3-1 at home! Look at their results since, we are going to struggle this season and not finish in in the top 10, never mind top 6!

31 Dec 2012 11:31:52
i like the way BR teams play football but he his wasting money on average players . he's already wasted 10-12m on borini and now sturridge and ince . we will buy sturridge for 12m and chelsea buy ba for half the price , ba will out score sturridge with his doggy knee. then theres ince a player we sold for 250, 000 and now are looking to pay 6m . we are the laughing stock of the prem from are 80m spent on carol, downing, henderson and adams, 4 of the worst signings iv ever seen in a liverpool shirt now we are buying subs from other teams . why dont we just buy quality and if the people at the club cant attract these players sack them along with these scouts who keep pushing crap towards are club. we need to get 11 quality 1st team players then we can buy these young players for the future . we should go and try get Llorente offer him a big signing on fee to keep his wages inside are wage stucture or villa on loan , i'd also try for michu he plays the right style of football but scores goals.

llorente was fantastic against manu in champions league last year and michu is letting his feet do the talking in the prem. we should offer 10m for llorente then offer him a big signing on fee , he would still be a bargin he would cost way over that if his contract wasnt near its end , 15m for muchu instead of the 18m for sturridge and ince . llorente and michu = champions league, sturridge and ince = europa if we are lucky

Well said mate

We are living on evaporating hope

The only time we'll go forward is when we admit our problems

31 Dec 2012 09:44:29
Eds,

What's the situation with Coates at the moment? He is rarely getting any game time, is this due to BR not rating him, personal issues, or injury?

I've always believed he is destined for great things, but without match experience, how is he going to grow as a player?

BillzWheelz {Ed002's Note - He is a young squad player - not everyone can play. There is also interest in him from Italy.}

I don't think Rodgers fancies him. I don't myself, to be honest. He looks slow and doesn't back off to give himself time to make a challenge.
I could be wrong, though, and hope I am.
Rigsby.

If a player that was bought like coates has issues e.g not allowing time to tackle as you described..(not disagreeing)but with coaches at this level would that not be identified and worked on personally for his age i think he is great and can score and pass well wilson also looked good when played but i think its a case of playing it safe like a keeper if a defender slips up it will probably be costly to the team/overall result

Like it or not, he's fourth choice at the moment. I know he's got age on his side but Carra hasn't and still gets selected before him.
It's not personal but I'd put money on Coates not making it at Liverpool and being sold on.
Rigsby.

31 Dec 2012 12:21:13
i hope not because I quite like the guy to be honest he needs games and playing time under his belt he hasn't been giving a fare crack at it under Brendan Rodgers

waro

Would you break up the skrtel agger partnership to intigrate him in? it is always harder for center backs to break into the starting 11 due to, as one of the posters said, an inexperienced mistake costing us so severly.
derryred

Coates is having trouble with the English language (much like Carra, haha) I think Seb is HOT< HOT> HOT
and would hate for him to leave. He has friends within the team (Spanish speakers) and will soon be played instead of Carra (love Carra btw)
Carra is getting appearanced in atm to help him with a club record. Patience is needed ref. Coates. aklfc

31 Dec 2012 09:41:14
I know we have been linked with ba but have to say i hope he never.gets.near our club. His "agents" actions say to me this player and his "people "are not what we want at our club.
He has a game on wed and allows his people to go a tout him everywhere . Not what we need here.

Happy need year to one and all.

"The English club proved that miracles really do exist. I've now made Liverpool my English team. They showed that football is the most beautiful sport of all. The Liverpool supporters didn't let me go to sleep the night before, there were 10 of them to every three Milan supporters. They showed their unconditional support at half-time when they were losing 3-0 and still they didn't stop singing." World Cup legend Diego Maradona who was cheering for Liverpool in Istanbul.

Why is all People here so against the Liverpool chances of getting the best players? Are we now a team that can be compared with Sunderland or Stoke? I understand that it's wages problems but come on! A substitute from Wigan, no thanks! In that case, we take Diame. Sturridge, Ince and please, a centre defender. The list can be long, keeper, winger, playmaker (a man from Inter)..... Love the site! Magnus Sweden

Because of Enrique's injury, Agger is to move to left back with Coates taking his place in the middle, Also possibility of playing 3-5-2 with a back 3 of Agger, Coates, Skrtl. Johnson pushed into midfield.

More like we'll keep the same formation with either downing moving to left back or Jack Robinson coming in. I'd prefer the latter as Downing is looking better up front

Ed great site and excellent work..

Was watching everton and chelsea...everton should have won that game..failed to take the chances and lost the match..
Rafa the tactician got spot on...he knows exactly about the game..and then he changed it..
Leighton baines...the boy is genius..the best LB in the league..
Ed..they dont have money...they struggle for wages every year...they never went for a rebuilding..
but how on erath they produce world class performance..?
and wer do they buy cheap players?
they actually dont have a recognised striker..

I love liverpool...but Everton were classy yesterday...only outclassed by Rafa benitez tactics

Harry
norway

If Benitez was tactically brilliant then why didn't we win the league when he was in charge of us? Please don't say that he didn't have the money to spend coz we were 2nd highest spenders n he wasted it all, where did we finish in his last season in charge?

Ack17
Rodgers is our future ..... Fact

So it was Benitezs idea for Everton to be the better side miss a few sitters and the bar and post!!!
The circus is well and truly in town
Hope you got your supply of post #(;) Benitez tissues in stock

Lyndon

I don't think we were the 2nd biggest spenders, Rafa had to sell to buy and was not handed always handed the "big" transfer kitty as mentioned by numerous media outlets. Like all the transfer rumours banded around, don't take everything you read in the tabloids or the Internet to heart !

31 Dec 2012 08:35:14
talking with my Man United mate yesterday and we were talking about the Premier league and how poor it has been this season. Not one team is pulling up trees and looking awesome. Every team is inconsistent apart from Man United. He was saying that although they are winning they are not playing well. The only difference between the top teams has been 1 player. Van Persie. Take him out of the Man United team and put him in the Chelsea team , or Arsenal, Man City or even us. He is why Man United are top at the moment. 1 player makes the difference. Now they went out and payed big money for an older player who had an history of injury problems. If it was a gamble then it has payed off. We need to follow suit and search for someone like this. just 1 player can make a masive difference. Age doesn, t matter really. A young team like ours could benefit from having someone like Van Persie. i know that C.L football is what everyone wants but i still think that we could attract the likes of Van Persie and others of that calibre. an old head who can help the younger players and pull us out of the s**t now and again, just like what Van Persie does.
robbie

The only thing is, they paid big money because he was THE guy to do that. Name another player in world football that would do the same, excluding the untouchables eg Messi, Ronaldo. RVP might be the current best finisher on the planet.

ChrisMiz

Agree mate. If Man Utd win the league this year, it will all be down to whiskey nose taking a risk on RVP. In the summer, i wud like to see us atleast try to get in a similar player, a player who can be the difference between challenging for top4 and finishing in the top4.
Indian Buzzer

Rubbish...
they have a playmaker in rooney..
an impact striker in hernandez
a young proven striker in welbeck..
soon they will bring leondawski..

Unfortuantly we have only one player comes all this category...luis suarez..
all others play football in our own half..passing sideways...

Ibrahimovich

Falcao Zlatan Cavani Neymar Villa... Could have got any of them with the Carroll money. Ah sod it i wouldn't swap any of them for Suarez. Everyone will be talking about Sturridge soon wen Luis puts um on a plate for him and he hits 15 in half a season YNWA !

At 29, Van Persie has a 4 year contract at 200k a week, plus bonuses, plus 10m loyalty bonus. Decent value this year if he helps them win the league. Perhaps ok next season. But eventually they will have a 32 year old has-been on their books at wages of 10 million a year.
Overpaid player, past his best, on wages no other club would consider paying - making him impossible to sell. We know how that feels.
Of course, fergie will be gone by then, so why should he care?
Red Steve

Agree with Red Steve and the other above poster noting Rooney and Lowendoski.

Man United have the financial muscle to take a risk on RVP paying 200k plus a week plus the loyalty bonus. If it fails they will be able to dip into the transfer market again and spend. We could, at a push, paid the fee for RVP but could not afford his wages and fees etc.

We simply do not have the backing to to conduct this type of business like United, City and Chelsea can..

From the italian league i think that guy di natale or miccolli (captain of palermo) would be decent players to bring in if we can.

Will people please give Rodgers and co a break last year we had no European football and an easier start we lost a lot of experience in the summer and it still hasn't bin as bad as most make out all season 3 games Liverpool deserved to be beaten (villa, arsenal, stoke) we have bin without striking backup since October Suarez has bin exceptional when Sturridge and borini come into the mix and also Kelly in defence we will be much more potent in front of goal and better in defence with better options . Give it time it will come together
The futures bright the futures red

Dave

Very good post, with exception of a couple of games our performances have been pretty good. Our reliance on Suarez has been evident but as you post with the impending arrival of Stuuridge and the return from injury of Borini our options will be far greater and with those 3 players you have pace, skill and goals. This to me can only mean that we will have a more positive start to the second half of the season

Over simplistic solution to a complex problem

31 Dec 2012 10:07:27
Am i missing something. Is this the same borini that couldn't get a kick in a horse box earlier in the season that people are looking forward to comin back. I hope he stays out for the season and is never seen again. Dreadfull player. Worst lfc player bar none.

The difference I've noticed about Liverpool this season is that they are more exciting/interesting to watch. Virtually every time I sat down to watch them last season I ended up flicking and lost interest because there was no structure or consistency to their play. (and because certain players loved lumping it to Carroll when he played)
While results this season haven't always been brilliant at least we're entertaining to watch. The thrust and energy of Enrique, Suarez and Johnson coupled with the youthful enthusiasm of Suso, Sterling and others is a breath of fresh air. No matter how this season pans out I think some brilliant work has already been done in the second half of 2012 that will stand to us all in the future. I haven't felt so positive in 5 years. Thanks BR.
Thanks Eds.

Happy New Year to reds everywhere.

Last year up until about march we were brilliant to watch, i agree the performances have been decent apart from a few. It is obvoius that we need more goals in the team. I actually think that going forward we should play one of hendo or shelvey in the team purely for the fact that they get into the box.

Hi Eds,
I just can`t believe that we lost to Villa and Stoke. Having won would have been in such a great league position. Hope for more consistent 2nd half of the season.

Well we did. Start believing.

31 Dec 2012 04:53:41
Hi eds any chance of a leftback now that enrique is injured once again? {Ed002's Note - I really don't know.}

31 Dec 2012 07:31:51
Walcott's form has guaranteed that Liverpool are no longer in the running, if they ever were that is.

And arsene seems to say theres no guarantee , he will tie up the deal , just cos he scoring well , he could still move on.....

31 Dec 2012 06:59:50
Dont worry about Jan, Rodgers will have a big transfer kitty to spend this summer. With Luis Suarez desire to play in Europe and compete for trophies expect him to move for a sizeable fee.

We can use that money to rebuild towards Rodgers longterm vision of getting sacked and us starting out from square 1 yet again.

Wow - another really positive post.

I bet Xmas at your house is a barrel of laughs

The OP was be a wee bit optimistic

I tkink it will be worse than that

Sturridge and Borini offer little in the final third and we'll struggle

Hi Eds,

I've tried googling this and couldn't find a definitive answer, so I hope you can help me out please. I know there is a restriction on the number of loan signings a premier league team can bring in (it's 2 isn't it)

But what I wanted to know is, are there are any restrictions on the number of outgoing loans a team can make, and also, more specifically, are there any restrictions on the number of players they can send out to premier league teams?

The reason I ask is because a few of our players have been mentioned in the media in relation to loans to premier league clubs (Cole to QPR, Downing to Sunderland, Coates to someone I can't remember :) etc) while we've already got Carroll at West Ham. While I usually dismiss most of what the media say, loans out in January make sense to cut a few quid off the wage bill, even if it;s only for six months, and I wanted to know how feasible it would be.

Anyway, cheers for any help Eds, and a Happy New Year to you all.

Sean. {Ed001's Note - I have never noticed a restriction on outgoing loans, though I might have just missed it, so I am only 95% sure that there is none.}

The only restriction on outgoing loans is that no more than 3 players may join the same club on loan. other than that, pork away!

I realise i am seriously likely to get abuse for this but wanted to ask what position people think Everton will finish in? And what are your opinions on David Moyes as a manager

The part where i get abuse is by saying i personally really like Moyes and think what he has done at Everton is very impressive and think if he was had a more cultured latin type name like carlo moyesse he would be rated as a master of tactics and man management.

YES i support LFC only and have done since being a child and am now getting old at 36 and still love it when we play Everton, and win! However i do like some others feel its a bit silly to hate Everton, their management etc just due to location etc etc.

To get to the point people are saying Everton will crumble and are punching above their weight. What do you all think?

I think they will finish below us but top 7 and us top 5. Sorry to go on about moyes but guess its a hard subject to talk about on here and wondered if its just me that rates him as a manager.

1) Chelsea
2)Man Utd
3) Man City
4) Spurs
5) Liverpool
6) Arsenal
7) Everton

Gareth

Moyes hasn't won anything at Everton and they've never qualified for the champions league under him. 10 years with only slight progress, the only thing impressive is by the budget he has built his team with and the stability the club has right now. They are a solid team that haven't achieved anything so why would moyes get recognisition for that? Nothing to do with his name mate.

Everton below us! We will never get 5th we just beat QPR dont let it go to your head we are going nowhere fast. My prediction is we will finish outside the top 10.

ENDLESS DECLINE

This is nonsesne...
arsenal below us? so as everton?
there is no way this gonna happen...
top 4 remains same with arsenal in it...
dude its a fact..Man city came down asked all the teams...I wanna be in top 4..who is gonna sacrifice?
Chelsea UTD and Arsenal..replied..No ways...
Liverpool smiled and said..pls...take our spot..
we shall start rebuilding...

31 Dec 2012 08:36:45
Haha dont worry, Arsenal and Everton will both finish above yous. I'd throw West Brom and Stoke to finish above you lot aswell.

Haha deluded u lot are

MUFC for life

31 Dec 2012 08:57:53
I think it's silly to hate each other too but you try telling that to their supporters...why would you get a bashing for saying that Moyes is a good manager? He's good considering his limited resources, but he hasn't won anything in ten years. There is no guarantee he would do well with a bigger budget, but he has picked out some great players with what he has. All depends on what you define a good season as...the way the everton supporters bang on you would have thought finishing above us is the ultimate achievement!

31 Dec 2012 09:10:25
Our dislike of them is not geographical, the abuse of stevie and his kids the abuse of fowler and his sister countless rumours spread about other players, go into any pub from walton vale to the city centre when were playing away and you will find them supporting the other team, I have actually seen themspit at the t.v. In pubs when we score. I worked as a steward at anfield on the annie rd and they were the worst supporters to deal with, even worse than united. Just thought I would clear that up for the original poster.

Waro

Everton were in the Champions league qualifying round in 2005 but lost. I do wish that people would not judge how good a manager someone is simply because they 'have not won anything'. You are only as good as your team can be and in this day and age 'money talks' and if you don't have money to buy the best players you will need to be very lucky to win anything. If Guardiola managed Everton or a team on a similar budget do you think he would have done any better? Possibly, possibly not....

I believe David Moyes has done a great job in keeping Everton in the top half of the table more often than not, they normally have to sell their best players to buy and let's be honest some of the players they have brought for modest prices makes a mockery of our transfer policy and they finished ahead of us last year despite our huge outlay on new players. I'm surprised that he has been overlooked for posts like Spurs and Newcastle in the past and think he deserves a chance with a bigger club and bigger transfer budget. Then we will see if he is indeed a good manager or if he will struggle in a 'bigger' environment (like Hodgson did)

You think having a pop at Everton is going to make our situation any better? Leave them alone and lets just look after our own team eh.

31 Dec 2012 02:54:43
suarez has a buy out clause of 40 million pounds. Make it simple for u fellow reds, come summer and we offer no champs league football or dont seem to be moving in the right direction(i.e 5th or 6 th), money bags( psg, chelsea, mancs etc) will sign suarez.
Tbh a player like him deserves cl
Ali g from staines

He had the chance to move in the summer, he stayed and signed an extension. People "claim" there is a buy-out clause but like the one of Demba Ba people will never know the details of it. Stop being such a pessimist and look forward to the next game.

AsianRed

I would have released him summer...if we finish 9th, still rebuilding, no clue on the transfer,
The boy deserve to play in a top top team..lets be honest..
he signle handedly took our team against QPR...
he has highest shooting ratio in epl..
he as had 29% of ball in all liverpool play.
13 goals...
genius..

31 Dec 2012 02:52:56
Was a good performance, Sterling didn't have a good game but then his form was always going to drop.

I think the main thing he need's to look at is getting in the box! Looking at Suarez's first goal sterling doesn't move until the ball is in the net for me he should be always trying to drive in the box and look for rebounds.

Still great performance in the first half another 3 points. Was also glad Suso got on but still was hoping for Assaidi to come on for sterling.

I am happy about the win.
But its little reward for a very mediocre and poor season so far.

Much like puting a 'band aid' over a deep wound, it is that which is beneath, that is the real problem.

The cause of infection is BR.

The cause of infection is you my friend
gareth

BR is just a symtom of the FSG virus which slowly erodes bodies it latches onto.

Seems it has infected the RED SOX and LIVERPOOL

That's odd....the negative critic didn't post his name. Weird.

cozinoz

BR is similar to Ebola they both destroy from within

I would not call our season mediocre. This was always gonna be a transitional period for our club. Just look at how young our players are. Im sure with a couple of decent forwards n a bit of experience, we will be shooting up the table.
Indian Buzzer

So whos to blame for the other 3 mediocre seasons

By ur logic that would be rada, roy and kenny right?

31 Dec 2012 02:11:10
A win today, satisfied with that.
But it was QPR, so let's not get too excited.
We have failed against better opposition, so that indicates where we really are at.
No point celebrating mediocrity, its still only 7 wins from 20 games, and that is never ever good enough.

Though, the team played better without BR, is that a omen!.
Clearly we need a better manager, one who can drive/motivate/inspire, and one who has experience and tactical brilliance.

Watching the match yesterday, I imagine that Colin Pascoe got a ticking off on the phone from BR last night.
Although they won it was not from using BR system, we were much quicker on the attack, even saw some long passes and more bodies in around the box.
And you are right lets not get carried away, QPR were surprisingly garbage normally Harry is better at getting his teams organised they just didn't seem interested at closing down and gave liverpool plenty of time on the ball.

One other point that BR supporters keep coming up with is our possession which averages out around 60% but this is nothing new, if they want to bother looking at stats under houillier, rafa, hodgson, kk they also had games with 60+% possession.

I expect BR will get a chance under FSG to buy a couple of players in January and they will see what happens until the end of the season, as we should be safe now with the points we have to avoid relegation.
But I still don't see him being in the job come next season unless something dramatic changes and he starts having a more flexible mixed tactics system.

Sven

31 Dec 2012 01:48:05
Another point towards Allen haters, the boy is sat at the top and has won us possession 157 times! More than any other player by a big margin!

There you go a stat to show what he actually does for the team!

Quit hating just back the players & the manager!

M

Where did you get that from ?

Did you support Roy Hodgson and just quit the hating!?

Some people are drawing comparisons between them both and the points picked up at this stage of the season and the stop start reaction from players.

People are worried. I'm personally laid back and relaxed about Rodgers and his methods, it's a long term plan but still, i understand people and their fear becoming concerned for the club and the short term league placings.

Criticism for methods, style and tactics etcetera is not ''hating'' it's being critical, honest and desiring more/better overall football, methods and club. Whether you/we/us like it, loath it or refuse to believe it, critics are the questioners who demand for better standards.

Very few see the bigger picture

Hahah..stats comes here again....
luka modrich..never had such stats for spurs...but we know how beast he was with spurs..
retainign possession againts adal tarbaat (QPR)...is no big deal mate...

Has that possession got us into the top four ?

Yeah there's a thin line between constructive criticism, & negativity! Don't get me wrong every player and the team deserves that, and yeah I will genuinely say, this weren't good nor was that but seriously at half the season, in BR's first season with a squad full of kids and average players at best he's got a bigger challenge than you actually realise! He's not had or got the luxury of £100m every transfer window but he's bought players to get some depth at least and build up the team! I'm sorry but Joe Allen has been outstanding this season, he's had a few off games with lack of rest! That stat proves, the kid has stopped us conceding more & if we had a bit more experience up front, we would have converted more chances! Your problem is you think of it as a glass half empty, I think of it as a glass half full! Get some optism, support the team for once! You've not given him a chance it's been 5 months! Some results haven't gone our way but we have played some brilliant football this season and if you don't agree, you're just another sheep, who knows nothing about football, doesn't watch the game and comments after seeing the score!

Seriously your negativity does not affect my faith in my team!

M

Another point to mention my post was not sent for those who say "Allen had an off game today" it's to those who say "BR out, awful buy 15m waste"

M

is it just me or was sterling not up to hi best toady against qpr, cant argue, cmon u mighty reds
ali g

I don't believe we have ever seen him at his best. Or even close to it.

An 18 year old cant be expected to play as a starter for a team like Liverpool. When Sturridge and Ince comes in expect him to make appearances off the bench.

31 Dec 2012 01:20:10
lose 3-1, win 4-0, lose 3-1 , win 3-0
pattern hopefully not
cmon reds sink sunderland
ps is sturidge available to play then eds???? {Ed001's Note - nope.}

31 Dec 2012 01:15:10
i see the end result of the season at 6th because teams such as stoke, westbrom and possibly everton are punching waaaayyy above their weight. if stoke lose against man city, and we win were back to eight. and everton have only won 1 more game than us and without mirarlaas and fellaini they will struggle and as for westbrom, their luck is running out as they have only won 2 in their last .
with quality strikers such as sturidge( ican understand if u dont rate him high because of our recent kop flops) and even ince we stand a chance of 6th or even higher if we pull up our socks
Ali G from staines

Got it...
but we are yet to play chelsea. city, arsenal, and UTD...and most of them are away games..can u see us loosing all of those??

We have no trouble playing against bigger teams, albeit we never seem to win, we always play well and usually get points.

31 Dec 2012 00:21:27
In you opinion who would you want us to sign during this window.. do you think a young lb is possible? Enrique's injury means he wont be starting for a while and with Kelly being out so much Johnson can't really cover without us playing wisdom who I think is too young atm.

Robinson, he was good enough under Kenny, although Downing will give us some cover.

Keith

Downing will play at left back and Wisdom will move up to the bench.

RAH, YNWA

But full-backs had an easier job under Kenny. Hence Enrique's struggle to get up to speed with the new system.

31 Dec 2012 00:17:49
Hope Enrique's injury isn't too bad as we've got no cover for LB. if we can get Sturridge n prob Ince in early in the window well b in good shape. Turning the corner watch out 2013 top 4 here we come

Enrique is out for 6 weeks minimum.

transfer window:
in:
Sturridge
Walcott
Ince
David Luiz to play CDM if we have funds.
Butland

Outs:
Reina
Downing
Rodges for benitez

Do you buy in a jumbo pack of Tissues
When you fantasize about Benitez!?

Lyndon

David luiz if we have funds? Seriously, if we had funds as you mention don't you think we'd go for a player who actually plays in CDM? Besides the point David luiz, is very poor at reading situations and is very very clumsy! He had 1 good game in that position the other day but against Everton, wasn't brilliant at all!

31 Dec 2012 04:56:58
Mate, the Everton game was more of a battle, as the simply tried to outmuscled every Chelsea player on the pitch. Luiz was the only one that was up to it. Not saying I would sign him though.

Spot on...rafa benitez dont have a choice other than to play luiz as DM..
he and luiz both know how bad he is...

Floppy hair and floppy legs will not save us now.

Benitez for Rodgers ? Where do you people come from ? When this club is back in the CL, what are all you plastic Man Utd and Chelsea fans going to say about that ?
Do us a favour, don't come on here posting s**t anymore, if you support the club, then show it, don't keep slagging it and the manager off
