Swansea City's left back Taylor anyone for next season

I don't think Reina was shocking yesterday... the two goals conceded were mistakes by outfield players.

Fans (especially on the internet) will jump to a players' neck the moment anything seems substandard. The stick he has been getting is outrageous.

Behave - are you telling us that you don't believe the first goal was another Reina howler, irrespective of any possible mistake leading up to it.

What is the likelihood of Downing, Henderson, Enrique, Carroll being sold in the next window?

Gav the Red {Ed002's Note - Near zip - about nada-2.}

Out of the four, which one would you most prefer to have staying at the Club next season?

Cuchulainn's Hounds {Ed063's Note - Henderson by a country mile}

We are desperate to get rid of them

Definitely right Ed063, well that's my preference too anyhow.

Cuchulainn's Hounds

I stood by Downing through all the stick he's had since joining, believing he would come good for us eventually. I think the rest of this season is enough TBH. If he doesn't get his finger out, there are more productive ways of using his wages. Henderson, I hope we keep Hendo. Not easy to see how he's going to get games with the personnel we have in the middle now but he's very young and once he develops a mean streak will be a quality footballer. I think the lad is just too nice to be really successful just yet.

Len

Last I looked they played for Lfc so I'll be supporting them whenever they play for us

Coupke of questions for the Eds if they have time. Do any of you know if Shevley can play on Thurs? I take it the red only means he can't play in English games like cup games an league games? Also what the ex derby player writin for the Daily Record has against Rodgers he's purely slated him callin sayin he's a legend in his own head basically?

Haven't wrote here for ages bene following it kept quiet an read all the negative stuff after deadline day but its lookin brighter at the moment. Really lovin the young lads being mixed in.

Spriggo {Ed001's Note - Shelvey is only banned from first team domestic competitions, so he can play in Europe. No idea what was written in the Daily Record, but it is just a tabloid paper, I have no interest in their lies.}

Fair point about the papers Ed but to be fair The Daily Record is about as reliable as print media gets.

@ ConnorsLFC

I don't think that the match yesterday needs to be put in perspective, quite the contrary infact.
Over and over again we have outplayed and beaten the 'top' sides but failed at against the 'lesser' ones.
It's been argued (rightly so) that, for LFC to get anywhere up in the standings, they must get results against the 'smaller' teams.

And that's exactly what we did yesterday. Honestly I don't get the 'it's only Norwich' speech. Isn't this the sort of game we'd normally struggle in, while wiping the floor with the 'big boys'?

Wasn't it the draws at Anfield against the Norwichs, Swanseas, Blackburns etc that largely contributed to our most calamitous season in decades?
Now when we wallop such a side it's not enough?
Give me a break.
If anything, it's such games that count for a lot as they constitute about two thirds of the 38 games.

Re the performance itself, I thought our application was impressive, both tactically and technically. All the guys put on a great show. The passing, movement on and off the ball, remarkable. It gets better with each game. Defence needs massive, massive shoring up, tho. Mostly individual errors, but they should iron themselves out as the players' technical ability gets more and more refined and confidence and understanding of the BR's methods improves.

Very good five goals scored. Super hattrick from the virtuoso that is Suarez. As I've previously said, he's easily a 35+ goals striker a season. He needs to be calm, composed and keep honing his technique.
Yesterday there was that unsual composure about him none of that incessant whingeing. Look what that got him.

Norwich shouldn't beat themselves too hard about it. They came up against a talented, highly motivated, hungry LFC team that was just too superior and rampantly clinical in front of goal.
There was only ever going to be one winner.

And make no mistake, they are NOT the only team that will have their b******* handed to them by this hungry, rapidly burgeoning LFC team this season.
Many are in for huge hidings and will get far more than they bargained for.

The fact of the matter is that this team has played superbly thus far, bar the Arsenal game and WBA (prior to 1st goal). Only Arsenal has bettered our play. (Credit to them.)
I've been impressed by lads' desire to pass/receive the ball in tight spaces. Massive trust and confidence there.
And we'll only get better.

Personally, I'm so happy, never been this optimistic in a long time.
Though I genuinely believe a top 4/3 finish is far from out of the question this season, I think 5th/6th would be good.

I see this as a foundational season for us. Attuning the lads to the new system and play, blooding the kiddies, filtering out the contaminants (the latter BR could do January or summer ) etc.
Next summer will be when BR will get to truly shape and mould this squad.

So for me, results-wise, finishing 5th, winning at least one of the domestic cups and reaching the final of the Europa would represent a good season, under the circumstances.
It would be great for the likes of Suso, Sterling, Wisdom, Shelvey, Coates, Yesil, Robinson to go to Wembely and feature extensively in the latter stages of the Europa.

Massive experience and excellent preparation for the lads for next season. With this, coupla nifty new signings summer, a good preseason together, we'll be good to go and almost unrecognizable from what we are now. The bench, starting XI, the play... all will be vastly improved.

So this season, let's just watch and enjoy the lads learning and growing together. Let's enjoy our team playing some of it's best football in a long time and tonking teams.
Yes, there will be frustrating, enraging, painful moments. We'll cry and get mad.

But end of the day it would all have been worth it. The lads will substantially be one, attuned to BR's methods, the young lads would have been blooded and ready to lead the side in the battle to the top again. Their other talented peers in the youth ranks and the world over would have marvelled and been inspired to entrust their development to the remarkable man that is Brendan Rodgers and Liverpool FC.

The upshot of what BR is doing with Suso, Sterling, Wisdom, Sinclair etc is that, talented young players from the UK and abroad as well will see LFC (along with Arsenal) as the most genuine place for the development of their talent.

I expect over that over the next couple of years, we'll see more and more of the creme de la creme young talent streaming into LFC, from England, Wales, Spain, Portugal, Germany, South America.

If people weren't so short-sighted and could to see further than the end their noses, they'd notice that LFC and BR already are winning, in a BIG way.

We are presently witnesses to something special brewing at LFC. Let's enjoy that now, can we, please?

2 years and around £160 mil later and still 7 of the 11 players that started yesterday were brought in under rafa, no matter what some people may think he realy set us up for the future, so lets thank rafa for all the good he has done and wish brendan the best going forward

pd

You're right he brought them in, but you know what? He would never have played them! Not the flair players any way, just the plodders like Insua. Ged

Two players yesterday were brought in during the Houllier era. Thanks to him too. And thanks to Dalglish for Downing, Suarez and Hendo. Now lets move on.

Yeah but Rafa would of had us play a 7-2-1 and we would have drew the game 0 - 0 !

I take it you didn't watch any of the europa cup last season,Insua was superb through out for sporting

People say diving and simulation is a form of cheating because you influence the ref but surely defenders who know they have committed a foul but make out to the ref that the other player has dived are doing the same thing.
Barnett at the weekend was a disgrace, he knew he had took Suarez out but tried to make out that he had dived, thats a form of simulation and cheating because he is trying to influence the ref when he knows he has committed a foul.
Would love to see a ban for this because it was embarrassing to watch.

Jay

Agree totally Jay, it was the same last week at WBA. Assaidi was taken out on the side-line by the defender Ref called the foul correctly but the defender still gesticulated that Assaidi dived "cheating" pure and simple. Ged

Its all fair in love and war and football. The simulation will always be there until video refs are introduced (which will, of course, ruin the game completely).
How about a fine based on post-match video evidence for players who clearly dive with no physical contact (ie Valencia last week)?
We are taking the moral high ground at the moment because Rogers seems to have a bit of integrity but we've all seen Suarez and Gerrard dive in the past. I'd like to see the game kept as it is without constant tinkering of the rules every year but surely there's room for the FA to discipline the players based on video AFTER the matches have finished in the same way that red cards can be appealed?

cozinoz {Ed001's Note - I have always thought that was the best way, sit the match officials down with a couple of club reps and go through the footage. Every dive can then be given a yellow and shirt pulls etc, it would soon put a stop to it when players are picking up bans.}

I understand the thought process for the post match review however what is included in their jurisdiction is the issue in my mind. Do you punish all fouls, hand balls, dives retrospectively? I am not sure how you do it. Not against the idea all together, I just wonder how it could be managed and as we have seen with the Terry case, 'neutrals' can not been relied upon to end with a balanced result for all involved.

vorm to lfc in summer ?? afc

Vorm just signed a new contract with swansea

Swansea obviously think its a possibility, they've just signed him to a long term contract, so he'll be well over priced!

If we're going after another keeper which I don't think we will as we have bigger priorities id approach Newcastle about Krul. We could offer Carrol for Krul and Ba although id prefer Chiote. Ged

something to think about :

Mark Clattenburg has not refereed a Man United game since he oversaw their 6-1 defeat by Man City at Old Trafford.
Former Premier League referee Jeff Winter was not given another Man United game for 2 years after sending off one of their players.
In his career as a Premier League referee, Howard Webb has awarded 18% of penalties he has given to Man United. 18% to ONE club, in 9 years.
And finally, the Man United CEO is on the board of the Football Association

Tom Red

The last stat is the only suspicious and most contentious fact imo. Does anyone know how many other club executives are on the FAs board?

Team for Thursday v Udinese:

Jones
Wisdom Coates Carra Robinson
Henderson Shelvey
Suso Pacheco Assaidi
Borini

RedKopite

I'd prefer
Jones
Wisdom Coates Carra Robinson
Henderson Shelvey
Suso
Downing Yesil Assaidi

Pacheco played really well the last day against WBA worked hard, chased back, had a few good efforts on goal. Deserves to retain his place. Either drop Downing or rest Suso.

Would love to see Demba Ba and some decent competition for Reina. Don't mind if it's an out-and-out sell Reina buy a new GK type thing or just some decent cheap back-up that could fill in for him if his form comtinued to dip.

All these people making the point about Allen just covering the defensive mid role while Lucas is out injured are spot on.
I have no doubt that when Lucas is back Allen will push further forward and we will see him playing through balls and killer passes every game (they might still be short in distance though so I hope people don't get on his back for that instead).

Since Taggart tagged Louie as a cheat weve had f all. Its a disgrace! Hansens correct opposition defenders run to ref's pleading innocence and claiming a Louie dive. That usually is a sure sign of their guilt, rather than the opposite! Anyone remember Ronaldo at Man u-bl dy ironic and hypocritical the man from the club of players littered with dives in resent years tags our guy and were screwed for genuine pens. It shows power of that man and club. Indeed he got in refs mind again v them. Getting the sending off and pen he mentioned before the game as NOT getting!=Farcical

30 Sep 2012 20:30:09
impressive attacking movement but still miss men in the box too often.Midfield and therefore defence is FAR too open. We'll be punished by better sides.Johnson again is a worry defensively. not to mention Reina! But lets put it down to still trying to find the"balance".Things are promising however. Come on Redmen lets climb this table

I think we have improved getting men into the box as shown by Sahin scoring two goals from inside the box in the last two games, Gerrard scoring yesterday and against United and Shelvey getting two in Europe last week.
Also think Johnson has been one of the best performers since the season started, we all know what you get with him so we might as well accept it and enjoy his attacking qualities.

Jay

30 Sep 2012 21:00:52
We scored five and it's STILL not enough to stop the moaning, if a team can score five away from home by not having enough men in the box then maybe we should never have enough men in the box!

MR EM

I think we need to cut Johnson some slack. I've been critical of him in the past but he is playing out of position. Anyone claiming its the same as being a right back obviously has never played, it is different and I think he's doing an excellent job considering this.

Whats peoples views on Walcott as a striker? I reckon he could indeed do a"Henry". And whats peoples views on Lukaku(?)usefull,Would Reds fans see as an option if Chavski were to sell?

I dont think Walcott could be a striker for us, to small and weak.
I think he would have been good on the wing for us before the emergence of Sterling and Suso.

nevermind these 'rising stars' we need goal scorers, proven goal scorers as soon as we solve this problem we can start planning out for cl football, but until then, i wouldnt get your hopes up! lfc till i die, ynwa!

Luis Suarez
Career stats = 1 goal every 1.7 games
Liverpool stats = 1 goal every 2.1 games
How much of a proven goalscorer do you want?

Chris in Tamworth

30 Sep 2012 21:02:02
7 in two games isn't that bad is it?

MR EM

Would prefer to give Yesil, Morgan and Ngoo a chance before we spend what little money we have on somebody we might not need.

Jay

I disagree, our problem isn't really scoring for a change, its eradicating silly defensive mistakes. If we take the mistakes out we will be fine, we have gifted the majority of our conceded goals to our opposition so far.

Hi eds hope you are all doing fine

i would just like to moan about this bulrubbish about suarez being turned down pens because he has a rep for diving, that is complete b******* for me these refs should be doing their job that ref yesterday didnt if he deemed that not a pen then he should have booked suarez as we know it was a pen. how come nobody went on about ronaldo being a diver r ash young the biggest diver imo in the league and that dive valencia done last week it seems rafas rant wasnt too far wrong was it and thats afact.Tommy Irish red

Yes true but they could dive as they knew they were gonna get a penalty 9 times out of ten and why look who was there manager say no more

People did comment on Ronaldo he was often labelled a diver by media and ex players. And Ashley young was even (loosely)labelled a diver by fergie himself last year.

Nevada

I think both Ronaldo and Young have been mentioned as divers however the issue with Suarez is that EVERY time he is mentioned, they have to note that he was either convicted of racial abuse or that he is a diver. Every time. There is also a big difference between playing for a free kick and diving. Playing for a free kick means that you are positioning yourself to be fouled, diving is positioning yourself to win the free kick and not be fouled. Suarez admittedly has done both. My issue is that when Gareth Bale's name (or any number of other players) is mentioned, it isnt followed with a comment out how he is a diver every time.

Chat on video games talk about players who failed to reach their potential, for me Quaresma and Tom Soares are the biggest.
Opinions?

30 Sep 2012 20:34:11
Every player that has failed that the "knowledgeable" United fans say is the "next big thing" out of Manchester.

Example: Obertan, Macheda, Bebe, Pogba, Morrison, the list goes on.

Babel and Shaun Wright-Phillips?
Meant to be the next best things

Jay

30 Sep 2012 20:36:56
Quaresma's a funny one. I remember a 1-1 draw with Porto,in which Quaresma make all our defenders look stupid. For me though,it has to be David Bentley. Could have and should have had it all. Shame really.

What gets me is the media hyping up young players to be the next world class footballer. eg. Bruno Cheyrou the next Zidane, etc. pathetic.

All you plebs takin a cheap shot at Joe Allen, does it not register in the waste of space where your brain is, that he is doing THE most difficult job for us as he did for Swansea last season?

He makes simple, intelligent passes when under pressure from attack. Be it side, back, quick 1-2's, he has the composure and football brain to carry this out for 90 mins regardless of how the game is going.

We all hail Xabi for his time served, Molby a legend, souness had the bite to go with it, yet these played the same role?

Sorry, but for those that haven't really noticed yet, Brendan is bringing back the most effective, pure football. Keeping things simple. No fancy flicks n tricks, use the ball to get the right players to the right places , not vice versa.

Piddy.

They have to moan about someone thats all.

Joe allen looks a great buy seldom gives the ball away gonna be a great player

Simple intelligent passes back to the goalkeeper.

30 Sep 2012 21:16:07
joe allen could not lace xabi, molby or souness's
boots as soon as joe allen gets the ball his first
instinct is to pass it sideways or back, the three
players mentioned are all forward thinking players
always looking to play someone in on goal, playing
the ball sideways or back was there last option
in joe allen's case that's his first and only option,
is JOE ALLEN the new RAY WILKINS........

auntie annie.........

Most people on here dont know who Ray Wilkins is. Back to your own site, Annie

cozinoz

Joe allen always makes himself available for the rest of the team so we dont lose the ball would you prefer charlie adam in the team so he could hit 40 yard passes to the other team stop talking to your boyfriends during the games and pay attention..... red army

I always thought Wilkins was a good player. Joe Allen is excellent, no one offers like he does. Always makes the effort to give a good angle. Rarely gives it away, changes the tempo up and down. I like him alot.

Most supporters on here realise that Joe Allen has been so far and will continue to be for many years to come an absolute massive player for us. Those few who just rate show ponys give your empty head a good shake because just because a player can do more step overs don't mean their a better player. Ronaldo does plenty and as good as he is he ain't as good as many who doesn't do no where near as many fancy asse tricks. I'm not comparing Allen to those to its just an analogy.

Slating joe allen are completly mad seriously what areyou expecting us to sign messi? Completly mad. Allen is a very similar player to sergio busquets though smaller version gets ball n passes onto flair players. No he dusny burst forward but hea not there to do that he keeps possesion and pass to more creative players and if your saying u wouldnt have sergio busquets then u shouldnt be watching football its as simple as that

30 Sep 2012 19:12:00
Given raina seems to have peaked and may well be past his very best a new keeper must be on the agenda. I noted that Swansea have given there keeper a new improved contract. I'm guessing BR may well consider him as an option at Anfield and that Swansea have now tied him in with fresh new release clause should we come looking in the summer. I think he would be great keeper for anyone, I hear butlands name mentioned a lot is he really that good? Better then Kirkland was I hope, fitter anyway.

People only look at Butland because they think that he will eventually be England's No. 1. Who would slate England's keeper? Same reason why people wanted Carroll to stick around; they were under the impression that he would be England's No. 9 for years to come.

30 Sep 2012 19:06:31
I might be late to the argument about allen but these fans who are these the same fans who were jizzing in there jocks about how good spain are and they are by the way great teams have balance not everyone can be a show pony and not everyone can be defensive minded for me allen has been nothing but excellent in the team maintaing the ball and creating options for our centre halves in then passing the ball to the players who have that killer pass in i.e gerrard and remenber what you are thought as a kid if we have the ball they can't score so cut out the bitching and lets support our team we did win yesterday

All of you who are slating joe Allen need to get a life, I bet your all one of those people who is always complaining about everything, your never happy! You aren't the manager so your posts are pointless! Allen is playing the defensive midfielder coz lucas is still injured but When Lucas is back you will see Allen push up more!

No disrespect to those who have made constructive comments/posts on here today. But all I've mostly read are miserable moaning posts, which after the positive week we've had is utter madness.

Yes it's easy to highlight faults and errors in players, but why bother when we've won well (away) twice this week?

I know we've not had much to smile about in recent weeks and the mentality of looking for faults creeps in, but surely when we win you should think 'fair play, that was a good/great performance, that gives us some foundations to build upon'? Is it that hard to enjoy winning?

WTF is going on here? Whats all this Allen hating? Bloody Trolls........

30 Sep 2012 18:50:35
sadly it`s because gerrard and suarez are playing well again, so these wallies are just moaning about someone else,
if suarez doesn`t score next week they will be on his back again and allen will be brilliant

30 Sep 2012 19:11:03
Its not trolls lad its fans worried that all allen can do is move a ball side ways or backwards, he is slowing play down so much except the norwich game but they are the worst team in the prem and even the under 12 would beat them.

Moaning about nothing gives them something else to do. Otherwise they'd have gone blind by now and have no tissue paper left.

Just like to say I have not heard the insult walley since 1982. Maybe time for a comeback. BTW joe Allen is class and as his exprience grows his distribution will get more adventurous.

Many English football fans don't understand and appreciate the role that players like Xavi and Allen play for their teams. It's pure ignorance from people who have been brought up on a diet of archetypal 'premier league' style football.

Saw him against wales class act supposedly in shadows of hazard and co but totally shone his dribbling abilty first class same type pf player as hazard though hazard probably has better goalscoring and final pass is better though he would not cost half of what he did ohh and just scored a hatrick for psv from midfield. Is it just me or is everyone forgetting the fact that Reina pulled off two quality saves when the score was 1-0? fair enough he hasn't been great and he was at fault for goal 1. But praise given where praise is due?

BobD94

Isn't he supposed to make saves ?

I suppose the fact that he is at least attempting to make saves is an improvement on last season .

What? - bread and butter saves for an average goalkeeper.

With all these young players getting promoted to the first team in the last few weeks, surley we have a striker who can do the same, considering our lack of forwards in the first team.
When Morgan played against Hearts I thought he was very impressive but he hasn't had a look in since (even on the bench).
Always hear good things about Ngoo on the LFC website as well but he hasn't had a chance.
Only raising the point because Saturdays game would have been the perfect time to throw a young striker on with 20 minutes to go and see how he copes when we were a few goals up anyway. This would also have allowed us to give Suarez a rest for the remainder of the game.

Jay

Mate are we really short of a striker. 12 away goals last 3 away games. We just need to start scoring at home and we will be ok. Suarez is getting a full weeks rest inbetween games.

It seems that the team are chipping in with goals which for me is far more important.

Mighty reds

The majority of them goals were against and average Swiss side and Norwich who are one of the favourites to be relegated this season.
I think when we play the bigger teams we will need more fire power from the bench as shown against United and Arsenal in the last few weeks.
Shelvey has only scored four goals for us since he moved, Allen isn't a known goal scorer and Sterling hasn't scored a competetive goal yet.
Just think we should cover ourselves.

I cant see liverpool ands rodgers not trying to get a striker during the january transfer window, if suarez gets injured were in big trouble and we will be lucky to get to january with him being fit and available, the young lads upfront just dont have enough at the moment.
huntelaar for me please
jaydee ynwa

The young lads up front haven't been given a chance. Sterling and Suso have been given oppurtunities out wide but Morgan and Ngoo could offer something more centrally. I think we should bring them in now, even if its only off the bench in the league but starting in Europe because if Suarez gets injured, all of a sudden the pressure is on them to make an impact and we will have a major problem.

The performance against norwich was a masterclass, apart from some awful defending. Allen, sahin and suarez showed why they r the foundation for a successful future for our club. Time to cash in on downing n enrique. We simply cannot have players worth a combined 26 million on the bench who serve us no purpose whatsoever. However skrtel really needs to cut down on his errors. His expensive mistakes have cost us valuable points already.
Indian Buzzer

Cash in? Dread to think how much we will get (if anything) for Downing.
Enrique might not be such a bad situation in terms of getting rid but I honestly dont know why any team would take Downing right now, even on loan.
He has lost all his confidence, he cant beat a man and some of his crossing has been awful.
Biggest waste of money in LFC history, I would even go as far as saying that deal was worse than the Aquilani one.

So happy Arye messed it up on Transfer deadline day. It has been a blessing in disguise really... If we had signed one or two of our targets we would not have played our youngsters. Now when BR looks at which possitions he needs improving on and he looks at the team with Suso, Sterling, Wisdom included... In hindsight i'm so glad we didn't waste money on Dempsey or anyone else for that matter. Let the youngsters do their thing and BR can then in December decide which positions they made their own and which positions need new signings.
YNWA The Pirate

Happy to see the young lads get a chance but I still would have liked us to have signed Dempsey at least because theres a lot of games between now and january. If theres a few injuries and suspensions or a loss of form from some of the young players the weakness of the squad will be highlighted.

30 Sep 2012 16:14:41
if theres one player i rate highly its luis suares. he is the guy who has that aggression inside him to make things happen. jonjo will be our future star and captain. joe allen waste of 15m, no good attack nothing, just passing the ball that he gets, man utd got kagawa for less then that.
assaidi should be giben more playing time as well.

redh0t

What a nightmare to have a player that 'just passes the ball he gets'. What else is he meant to do with it?

Jay
(undercover Scouser in Brum)

Allen will be an awesome player.
RB

Redhot we get it you don't rate Allen. Its third post you've sent in today regarding that. Change the record you baby.
JohnBoy

Johnboy i wont, i am writting because i dont want someone to be in the team just by passing balls, when lucas comesback then we will have sahin, lucas, shelvey and gerrard for the midfield and there has to be a healthy comeptation, br should play players based on form and killer instinct notgoing nowhere short passes and bdw please sign ur post as johnman, being a boy and talking big just doesnt make sense

Well, your posts won't somehow magically get Allen out of the team will it? You don't pick the team do you! Get a life

James

The whole style of play the team produces is based on passing so therefore we need someone in there who can pass the ball and retain possesion.
Short passes aren't neccessarliy bad, if there isnt a killer pass on then the whole idea is to keep the ball and be patient.
Adam tried all the killer passes and Hollywood style balls last season and look how that turned out.

Jay

He's just not very bright with a thing about one player. If we all ignore him, he'll go away - the type of fan that even if
Joe pings one in from the edge of the box, sets up 2 and makes a goal saving tackle will still say he's lacking.

30 Sep 2012 15:41:37
Why all the hate for Joe Allen? He offers something that all good teams need- someone who doesn't lose the ball. He is always available for the ball and he makes it so the opposition are always chasing the ball. He leaves the fancy stuff to Sahin and Gerrard, because he accepts they are better at attacking than him. Barcelona have Busquets, United have Carrick, and look at the success they have had with them.

Rafa's Purple Goatie

It's because some fans aren't educated enough to understand how important the role is, that he plays.

30 Sep 2012 15:28:32
People putting Allen down are just clueless. Every player on the pitch has a job and a role to do. Allens right now is to sit in front of the 2 central defenders, work hard to win the ball back and then play simple passes. It's not his job to make the "killer ball". If you had three midfielders who all constantly tried to make 40 yards diagonal passes upfield we'd just be constantly winning the ball back and then giving it right back to the opposition. We have 3 midfields. Each has his own job. Allens is to sit deep and make simple passes. Complaining that he isn't making enough upfield passes is like saying Reina isn't scoring enough goals. It's not his job.

Why do we need a 15m man to just pass short pass, we should habe trained spearing to do so

redh0t

Go back and look at the Q&A BR did with reporters the week of the international break where he explained the roles of the 3 man midfield. Joe Allen is technically playing out of position in the Lucas role, but Brendan trusts Joe only in the role. He's the pivot, the fulcrum or the point guard if you like. He's been immense for us. Stop nit-picking and enjoy the long journey we are about to embark on. LFC 4ever. YNWA.

Chi-Paul

RedH0T time back to school in the morning eh. You are about as clueless a poster I've seen on here.
JohnBoy

Spearing over Allen. Good God. There are some clueless clowns on here.

Should have trained Spearing to do the passing job? You cant even put Spearing and Allen in the same league (literally now). Allen isn't just about passing, its his control, technique, dribbling and vision. He is a fantastic player, we have been spoilt the last 10 years with Gerrard being an all round centre mid who can score, tackle, dribble and pass, not everone is like that. Allen plays to his strengths and it works for the team.

Jay

Theres a reason why spearing is at bolton and joe allen is here in liverpool.

Kaizer

Quite right, Allen is being asked to try and start moves from the back by keeping possession, this is a situation enforced by the fact that Lucas is un-available at the moment. BR believes that Allen is even better at ball retention in the attacking third and will deploy him there when Lucas returns

Chris in Tamworth

It is going to be interesting to see the battle for playing time in the 3 midfield spots between Gerrard, Allen, Sahin and Lucas. One of the 4 won't be starting. Personally I feel like against teams we should really dominate it that Lucas should be out. Let the 3 more skilled passers be on the pitch and just pass the opponent out of the game. Against better opposition Lucas should play with Allen in kind of double pivot with Gerrard or Sahin given more freedom to join the attack.

On that line of thinking why not train spearing to play like messi then?

Did anyone see torres' flopped shot after his goal on match of the day priceless, he missed the ball completely!

Lil Red

Is that the same Torres whos's playing for the European Champions for both club and country, who scored yesterday, and who is currently top of the league whilst the team he left is 2 points above the relegation zone?

Honestly, you really need to get over it now.

He is utterly useless and I would expect him to be on his way if a bid of 5m plus comes in.

One day some of the "fans" here may get their wish with rodgers a midfield of Lucas and allen type players

(now I am not saying Lucas ia a bad player)

Unfortunately then and only then will Stevie be appreciated

The Bells

Who doesn't appreciate Stevie? You are allowed to like other players as well, you know. Lucas and Allen are class. And that is a fact.

StevIe G is one of the greatest footballers of his (or any other) generation. English or otherwise. He is also 32 and not as good as he once was. He's still a wonderful player and asset to this team. However, Lucas (25), Allen (22), Shelvey (20), Suso (19), Sterling (18), Suarez (25), Borini (22), and hopefully Sahin (24) are the future of our midfield and attack.

Anyone else feel like Allen should not be a starter? Personally think he would be better being brought on when we're protecting a lead. If he could find killer balls fair enough, but it just side to side and backwards for the lad. No doubt he has talent but needs to improve on his attacking play

Thanks for that Mr Shearer.

I just killed that disagree button!

KrishnaYNWA

Anyone else think this person shouldn't be allowed near a keyboard??? Fool

I cannot disagree with you more. He is vital to our team because he does all the dirty work so the rest can go up and attack. If he wasn't there, I could guarantee that we wouldn't anywhere near as much players going up.

For the style of play we have at the moment ,and everyone seems to be enjoying it (its the best football I have seen us play in a long time), Allen is crucial to how it works. He is one of them players that slips under the radar but the team will miss if he isnt there.
He never wastes a pass and always accepts the ball even if he is under pressure from opposition players.
Best of all he is only 22 so he will improve with time and we will get the rewards of it.

Jay

30 Sep 2012 14:48:10
Joe is the conduit from the back to the front - he's pivotal to the game we're playing at the moment. And he's our "out ball", if you're stuck for a pass give it to Joe in confidence that he'll collect it (even when marked) and move it on. So short answer, imo, no we wouldn't want to drop him.

Absolute rubbish he keeps everything ticking over and is priceless to the side. He does a great job for the side and will get better the better the players he plays with.

Mighty Reds

30 Sep 2012 14:50:32
Just checked the date and no, its not April 1st. Cannot think why this drivel has been posted. Possibly have a spy in the camp.
Robbie

I think allen should play left back

Left back in the dressing room

He offers nothing except short sidwards or backward passes

But if thats what floats your boat its scary!

Couldnt disagree more.
He should be the first name on the team sheet.
He's a crucial link between the defence and the attack. His style of play allows the team to play possession football and his passing creates angles and space for other players to exploit.
He provides a good balance to the team. Something we've missed since Alonso left.
Players like Sahin, suso,Shelvey and Gerrard are better suited to play the killer pass in more advanced areas of the pitch.
Allen will Prove to be one of liverpools best signings although his quality and talent will go unnoticed by many.

And he hardly ever gives the ball away

He has been playing the defensive position because Lucas hasn't been fit enough. Allen has attacking play in him we just haven't had the chance to see it. Give him a chance.
How Allen can receive any criticism with the way he has played is ridiculous.

BthekingB

Ha ha , we have a united fan , who is not a happy camper , well , I think that you will lose a lot more games , and maybe another barren season .

Hi, came on here the other week wishing you the best and saying it would get better and to just hang in there, I know you're not the finished article and the season is still young but you can all see the direction you're going and it's great to see. Maybe you have a young Arsene in BR. Got accused of being a brown noser last time I posted but do have a soft spot for you guys, not man love or anything and I can take the flak. Hope they stick with Pepe, don't want to believe he's lost it, such a great guy. I obviously hope Arsenal win the title and you guys go balls out and finish 2nd.

Think these next four home games coming up are crucial to our season (Europa League ones more for momentum). If we can string a good run together we can start to climb the table and it will set us up for the following away game at Everton.
Dont think we can afford to lose against them because they are already far ahead of us in the table and playing catch up all season is never a good thing.

Good win yesterday, but we still made the usual cock-ups that cost us goals, its a worry because against a better team those mistakes could have cost us a valuable win, the attacking play was top notch yesterday though.

The fact we are so attack minded makes us more vulnerable at the back

Let me answer that question

It will be Messi, Xavi, Ronaldo and Inesta

With FSG having no money no money and jacked up prices in the January transfer window has it not sunk in yet there will be no january signings unless they come for free or loans

quality is rarely possible in january

We win convincingly for the first time this season and the only thing people can talk about is 1 Reina mistake. Did you guys forget he made a wonderful save at 1-0 to keep us ahead?

There always has to be a scapegoat..

BthekingB

Totally agree, I only noticed the save (when he blocked the ball onto the post) when watching match of the day last night, had a bad stream when I was watching the game live. Until we scored the second and third we were always vulnerable to conceding because of our awful defensive record. Pepe has made mistakes recently but he kept us ahead with that save and atleast his mistake later on didn't matter too much in terms of the result.
We should all get behind him because he stuck by the club when we were on the brink of collapse and he was considered one of the best keepers in the world.
Loyalty is scarce these days so its time to repay him.

Jay

It wouldn't have counted mate, as he was offside. It was a class save though.

Im with u. yes he made that mistake, but the 1st half save was very good. even the one that was supposedly offside, not many keeper could actually change their direction of save in a deflection case.

Kaizer

Wasn't too bad a mistake, the ball moved viciously through the air.

Sooty

Completely right Sooty. The ball was hit really well and was moving back right. In slow motion you could see it move and Pepe adjust back to his left. He of anyone would have held it if he could. Modern footballs are very bouncy and to hold that would have been a miracle. That's where the defence need to be lucky. That time they weren't. Pepe is still a great keeper. Stop the moaning.

Disappointed with the negative posts about Joe Allen! He doesn't just pass backwards or sideways other than Suarez and until recently our brilliant kids he was the only LFC player this season who would accept the ball in close proximity to the opposing players, this allows him to put us on the offensive quickly! Those fans advocating the Hollywood passes Gerarrd and Allonso are known for should remember successful LFC teams have always played Chess with the ball, not basketball! Ged

The way things are going, Sahin has got to be a priority buy. We hv really sorely missed somebody who gets into gd positions in the box who can finish of simple chances.

And I hv been really impressed with Suarez"s attitude this season. He has cut out a lot of his old drama and is getting on with the game despite all the terrible ref calls against him. Class.

I'm actually thinking buying a striker may not be that critical now. If this season is for transition, then let's reall give Yesil, morgan, ngoo and sinclair opportunities to play and develop.

Having said that, I won't complain if a top striker came in. :)

Fulham are plotting a £2m January move for Liverpool's Joe Cole. Brendan Rodgers is willing to let Joe Cole,Stewart Downing,Dani Pacheco,Danny Wilson,Doni and Jordan Henderson all leave Anfield in January in order to raise money for some of his targets. Liverpool from what i've heard are considering moves for Daniel Sturridge,Klaas Jan Hunterlaar,Isco,Ciaran Clark and Jack Butland. Liverpool are highly unlikely to acquire all these players in January but we shall see. Chelsea are willing to let Daniel Sturridge leave the club if someone coughs up £14m for him and he would more than likely be starting on the right side of a front three for Liverpool- Probability-7/10.
Schalke have confirmed that Hunterlaar will not be singing a new deal and with the Dutchman out of contract at the end of the season he will be available at a knock down price in January. Liverpool badly need a prolific goalscorer and Hunterlaar has stated that he would like to play in England. Liverpool are the only top English team in desperate need for a striker, he could re-ignite his Ajax partnership with Luis Suarez at Anfield this January- Probability-9/10.
Liverpool are looking for a young intelligent goalscoring midfielder and Malaga's Isco fits the bill, the young Spaniard is apparently available for around £12m because of Malaga's well documented financial trouble. Isco may well come to Anfield next summer but I don't think he will arrive in January, Rodgers has sent scouts over to watch him play and he has received glowing reports but attacking midfield is not currently a priority position and unless Henderson,Cole and Pacheco all leave in January I can't really see it but you never know- Probability-3/10.
Brendan Rodgers is a big fan of Aston Villa's Ciaran Clark, although primarily a centre half Clark looks comfortable at left back or as a holding midfielder. Danny Wilson look's likely to leave Anfield, Martin Kelly is unfortunately out for the season again and with Jamie Carragher set to retire at the end of the season Liverpool would be wise to move for Clark who could challenge for a starting berth at left back. Liverpool's big stumbling block this January is that Aston Villa will likely want around £10m for the centre half and although I think Clark will join Liverpool at some stage the forward positions are a bigger priority so I don't think he will join in January.
Probability-4/10. Brendan Rodgers considers Jack Butland worthy of being Pepe Reina's long term replacement and he may make a move next summer but unless a rival moves first I think a January move is highly unlikely as Birmingham want upwards of £6.5m for their man and Liverpool are not going to splash that kind of money on a future goalkeeping prospect this January- Probability- 2/10. {Ed052's Note -

Probability for each:

Sturridge 3/10
Huntelaar 1/10
Isco 2/10
Clark 1/10
Butland 3/10

BthekingB

I would keep Henderson. He's improving and he's a good squad player. Plus the shelvey Henderson partnership for both club and country is blossoming.

Think it is to do with not having enough protection for the back four and players making stupid, costly errors.

Jack Robinson should play.

Anyone know what is happening with Robinson? I have been impressed with him when he has played and it seems strange to leave a natural full back out when we are short in that area.
Although Wisdom has done well at full back, he seems more of a centre back to me.
Square peg, round hole?

Wisdom is more of a full back in my opinion and Johnson seems great on the left rather than the right.

Totally agree, I have never seen us play so many long balls over the top under Rodgers as we did yesterday.

We seemed to build our attacks a bit quicker yesterday though which is not a bad thing.

OK enough is enough, yes Reina hasn't played that well this season but neither have half the squad. Our defenders are making mistakes galore which is leaving Reina wide open for goals. Look at the goals we have conceded and you will see the mistakes by the outfield. If we were to drop everyone who makes mistakes then we wouldn't have half a team each game. He still makes good saves each game but people don't look at those. Its just down to luck at the moment as if he does save the rebound seems to go to the opposition players. Yes he could do better but say that to all the other players too, so back him and his confidence will grow. MrT

Thank you for your views

i am also sick of the stick pepe gets, he is still top class, our reserve keepers aren`t fit to lace his boots, also who would replace him, we have no money, no cl football, we wouldn`t attract a top class keeper at this stage, i`ve said this before on here, Brucie made loads of mistakes, he was a liability at times but we all loved him and backed him to the hilt, we should do the same with pepe,

My issue is not so much his lack of form, more his terrible distrubution. Yesterday,so many hopeful balls over the top lost us a lot of possesion. Also first goal Reina gives the ball away, the fails to hold and parries straight to Norwich player(cant remember his name).
But.......hopefully those few nice saves can remind him
(and us) of jjust what he is capable of!

just a qiuck question eds how much did real madrid pay for nuri sahin ?? {Ed002's Note - 10M euros or thereabouts.}

Bargain of the century if Downing cost double

cozinoz

True, Real have a habit of negotiating good deals with players with 12 months left on their contracts VDV, Sahin etc. They do however pay big wages, so if we were to sign Sahin permanently he may have to take a pay cut.

Papa G

If the players are desperate to go there then negotiating a deal is a lot easier. In the situation we have been for a few years to attract good players we have had to pay huge figures and wages.

haven't been this excited for a long while , the main reason being the young lads comming through, getting games and then staying in the team...i know they weren't ready last year, but it makes the money spent look rediculous...we've got the lad from sporting txeriea{can't spell it} to come & adorjian [can,t spell that either] it's looking fantastic .. soon fsg instead of spending millions on sub standard players will have to look at paying rudolfo borrell, mourinho style wages to keep him happy...can't remember a 1st team coach ever being so important

Sorry my mistake meant reserve team coach

Morning all, just a question for you all.

When Lucas is back, who would you replace him with in the team? Or would you not at all?

I ask this as I'm scratching my head wondering what I would do. Lucas brings more of a defensive stability to the team, however Gerrard is starting to look like his old self, Allen has been fantastic all season and I'm starting to really like Sahin now and with 2 goals in 2 games....if he carries on like this then surely he deserves to be the team doesn't he?

What would you all do?

K.Bennett

3 goals in two games mate.

Jonesred

Seeing as we have team A, team B situation going on, I would play Lucas more in the Europa league and domestic cup games (like Sahin has been doing) along with shelvey and Henderson. I would keep Allen Sahin and gerrard trio going in the EPL. This would be he logical answer as Lucas won't be 100% coming back from injury.

Allen was missing yesterday and the game passed him by

So bench allen who can only pass the ball sideways or backways 90% of the time thst why he has such a pass completion rate.

Lets see allen hit the hollywood pass ala stevie

3 goals in 2 games

As good they are, Lucas, Hendo and Shelvey should wait their turn now. Pressure should be on Allen, Gerrard and Sahin to maintain high standards in midfield or risk losing their place to one of our other exceptional midfielders.

cozinoz

30 Sep 2012 10:04:14
Simple, really... Rodgers has already said Lucas is integral to his style of football - Lucas as holding midfield with Allen and Gerrard making forward runs. With Sahin, we can operate as Lucas, Allen and Sahin (centre midfield) and Gerrard as the false No.9 with Suarez playing off him, which is Luis' best position. Singred

I think it has to be Lucas or Allen. I would leave the midfield as is for now.

It's likely that in more difficult games (vs top 8 or away), Sahin will make way for Lucas and to be honest we do lack his strength.

Our defence is fairly exposed recently and despite Allen's best effort he's not a disruptive midfielder, its just not his strength. Our defence an Pepe are not functioning overly well, perhaps they just need a little less pressure on the defence. All are playing well as individuals but as a collective it's a little unbalanced. I know Johnson is more switched on at left back, but I prefer him on the right. I think Robinson's pace could really benefit the side, but I suppose his lack of experience with Sterling would be bold, even for BR.

Back to the original post, I suppose it's great to have a strong squad. Our midfield is as good as its been since Alonso left and although nobody we currently have possesses Alonso's brilliance, perhaps collectively they're stronger.

Papa G

Ha Hollywood pass! You're havin a laugh M8t, Gerarrds getting better but he's twice given the ball away and cost 2 goals, Allen hasn't!

Good point,we got a great midfield when all fit & when their all playing with confidence the compition for places will be immence

Exceptional lol, henderson is not exceptional neither is shelvey until he starts scoring and making assists like gerrard use to.RedTurk

Would hate to see Allen start doing Hollywood balls, would bring the bad memories of Charlie i think am the man after 1 decent season Adam back, Allen doesn't need to try every type of pass, that's why we have a midfield 3 to share the responsability. I think he has been a great signing and he has the ability to dribble the ball out from the back as well.

Could play each midfielder based both on form and the opposition. Do we need stability in the middle? Would a touch of Gerrard class help? Could we rest Gerrard to not over-exert him? Etc.

IMO we have the strongest/deepest midfield in the Premier League, a team where Henderson is sixth choice midfielder is a show of strength and depth.

Jolly Red

Joe Allen understands that this system rodgers plays is a game of association & continuity, his style of passing provides this platform think xavi's at barca (who had his critics when younger & one particularly ridiculous piece in the daily mail who later featured on article on xavi's which was basically an apology for their own patheticly poor insight no surprises there then) & paul scholes in his pomp (hated writing that but it is true) as bob paisley said " it is not the long pass or the short pass it's the right pass" he is only 22 remember give him time to settle personally think he has been exceptional so far.......jft96
Paisley's genius

I think based on form and opposition Brendan will pick who he thinks will be best in each game.

Hi All,

As many of your will know, I have been critical of the season so far as I really feared (and continue to be cautious) about our lack of experience in depth and particularly around the lack of proven strikers. I also questioned the ability of BR to change things around quickly enough to make something of this season.

Now, let's keep level headed about yesterday albeit that it was a fantastic performance and really pleasing to see the style of play and the youngsters being given a chance. However, it was only Norwich, and they will continue to get battered this season if they play that way. I'm not dismissing the performance yesterday, I thought the team was great. But, let's not get carried away. What I really want to see is 4 or 5 wins in the next 6 league games, and then we can start getting carried away.

I always hoped and prayed that BR and the team would start performing how we hoped they would, and I have all my fingers crossed that they continue yesterday into the coming weeks and also start to get a little bit more luck with decisions (the Suarez penalty decision yesterday was a disgrace by the ref).

Therefore, the performance yesterday and previously against Utd, means that I must offer to eat humble pie and say that while I remain fearful of our real ability to compete in the top 4 right now, I can see how well the team is being set out and the style of play is impressive. I love seeing Suso, Sterling, Wisdom and Assiadi in the team and I sincerely hope that the group continue to play the way they have and prove my previous concerns wrong.

Question for all out there, what realisticaly would everyone be happy with this year?

MY answer is simple, a top 6 finish with good performances generally throughout the season, where progress and style of play can clearly make us optimistic for next season. What does everyone else say?

May i just say how funny it is to hear Slur Alex moaning about a lack of fergie time at OT! Now that's comedy...LOL

Best.

ConnorsLFC

I would be really happy if we can make it to the top 4.

i would still be happy if we maintain to be in europe (europa).

Kaizer

Basically what needs to happen is liverpool need to start beating the teams were expected to beat. Once we start doing that we will have our identity back.

For me Rodgers is still on probation

FSG are finished too poor to own LFC

We need top 4. We have a chance this season with 1 or 2 top players in Jan. Let's hope

Mate if that's your logic then we lost points to Arsenal, United and City. Hardly a sign of a weak team if you considered the way we lost. Apart from that with WBA we lost because of the referee again and with Sunderland we gave them the point. So the team is doing well but it is unlucky and referees make "mistakes" against us.
I think the team is better than any other PL team except Chelsea. A friend of mine who is good in winning bets, played us to win the PL because at one point we were giving 1 to 100. And he explained to me how there is a good chance to win the bet. His explanation was way much more logical than any Liverpool fan(and he is not a Liverpool fan), he thinks we are the best team(based on our performance so far) in the PL along with Everton and Chelsea, but we were really unlucky. I don't think we are in it for the PL but I think we are definitely in for the first 4 places.

Top 7 finish and a good runs in the cups, a final or two maybe would be a peach. That, along with the great style of play which I know we can play would be great for BR and the team and would set us up for continuing success with more good purchases.

Id like us to win the league

Continued improvement. A bit of cash from the owners, spent well on a good CF and LB. Not that bothered about the cups but like to see us in the Europa league again through league placing.

I keep saying it Suarez will get at least 20 prem goals this season. If we sign a striker its going to after be some striker to be half as good as Luis. The way we play under Rodgers the more chances he Will get as well. Joint top goal scorer in the prem but he can't finish can he lol.

Anyway great win yesterday and its great to see the youngsters coming through. Twelve goals in the last three away games so things are looking up.

Re . Reina . People continuing to slate him. You don't know what you have got untill you lose them. Be careful what you wish for. Still a top class keeper. Ok so he has made errors, the whole team are getting used to playing a different way and he is not the only one to make errors of judgement. Shall we get rid of Skyrtel after his error yesterday? How about getting rid of Suarez because of his glaring miss when1 on1 with the keeper? Get real. Reina is still a top class keeper who is maybe just lacking a couple of clean sheets to buck his confidence. Support the players when they are going through a bad patch.
Robbie

I for one love reina, has been best keeper in premier for 3 seasons now. But something is wrong. It's not just the one mistake, there has been a major one in every game this season. Can't really use Suarez as an example as he got a hat trick and skirtl as its just one game, reina has not been convincing in any as of yet

30 Sep 2012 08:36:21
Pepe has signed a record sponsorship deal with.......... I can't believe its not butter. lol

Red raj

Reina is finished

He used to be greece lightening

Now he has hands of lard

Not defending peep but how many keepers can catch the ball now , I think the new ball is a major part of the keepers mistakes . They must be so light it move like the clouds

Reina has been making mistakes for the last 2 and a half to 3 years. This wouldn't be an issue but these mistakes usually cost us and lead to a defeat. In my opinion a goal keeper should rarely (if ever) let a near post shot in. However this is the most common mistake Reina makes and is certainly not expected of a world class goalie. I genuinely feel if he had some competition for his spot he play much better, at the minute he is an automatic selection.

As for skrtle, I think ihe is a good player but a little overrated and needs to stop making silly mistakes, its been a key downfall of his game recently. We were lucky it didn't cost us wyesterday thanks to Luis.,if we concede goals it should be because the other team played excellently not because we gifted them a chance and then let a tame near post shot in.

Ed, just wondering if you know if Sebastian Leto is back playing in Greece from the injury. I am hoping to take a game in there later in the year and wonderd if he was back.
It was shame about the work permit I thought, last seaso he was played more as a forward than a winger, he had 15 goals after 15 league games untill injured and missed the rest of the season.
Kevin Meireles I think went on to be top scorer with 20, so Leto would probably have finished top.
At 6"2" a winger/forward and 25 we lost out here, especially given what we were quoted for Dempsey.
RNred {Ed002's Note - Leto is not playing right now.}

Poorer league - he was very average playing for us

The Scottish, Scandinavian, and Belgium leagues are not great but have produced good players.
He only played 4 cup matches and he was 20/21 at the time.

30 Sep 2012 06:31:12
Think that its been touched on already in the last day or two but it seemed pretty bleak on here with our last day of the transfer window debacle. I like most Liverpool fans couldn't believe that we didn't secure Dempsey on that fateful day, but at the moment its looking like a blessing in disguise to the max. If you'd have told us when Suso got sent back to the reserves after the preseason tour of the US that himself and Sterling would be starting on the flanks 5 or 6 games in, I'd have thought you were crazier then a rubbishhouse rat. I'd also have thought that we must be totally up rubbish creek regarding injuries. It really was a cock up of the highest order that last day feck up but however we arrived at the SAS wing partners doesn't really concern me one bit. Totally different styles but both uber talented and as yous all know Suso is being played out of position, but to be fair to the lad he's technically that good he could play anywhere in a midfield or a more advanced role. Throw in Andre Wisdom and we've got three of the brightest youngsters to come through in a long time. You've got to give Rodgers big big respect for having the nuts to put all three in when under quite a bit of pressure. Sorry for the early morning ramblings but with the beauty of our football, the talent of the players and manager and the passion of us lot the supporters I'm sure in the not to distant future Liverpool will be great once again.

I hate putting anything negative up here after an outstanding win but....

Its time to cash in on Reina. I really like him and he has been a class act at the club for 7 years. He is also a big figure in the dressing room. The problem is, he hasnt looked right since the Torres to chavski debacle. He seems to have lost all confidence. You can see his frustration when he concedes. He is a world class keeper, playing like an average GK. I think it would be best for him and the club if he moved on. He would get a fresh start and we would get a good transfer fee. There are some good keepers out there at the moment (Lloris e.t.c.) January could be the time to take the plunge.

Tommy

You know Lloris just signed for Spurs

Maybe if a silly offer comes in...I wouldn't actively look to sell. You wouldn't get his real value. I suspect he would be badly missed.

If you lot entertain the idea of sahin signing permanent after piously ruling it out before then you are full of it and bad meffs eds

I don't think anyone said they didn't want liverpool to sign him perminantly. He's the only senior playmaker in the team (suso as well now) so obviously it would be huge if we signed him permanently. But even if we don't in sure suso will be pushed up the pecking order in midfield.

I put up a post early yesterday re our passing against Norwich,734 passes. it was a record.

734 - Liverpool made 734 passes today, which is the most by #LFC in the history of PL.We also had 67% of pos.

I found it on Twitter and someone asked what the record was.

for me joe allen is just a waste of 15m. br just bought him to pass the ball that too to the keeper. not much interception, no attacking flur like sahin, not deadly pass no nothing just 15m to pass to other players. i honestly think shelbey should be giben a go.

Sometimes the best players go unnoticed, which is a pity. like lucas. he's best if you rarely recognise him.

Didn't Allen set up the 4th goal?

Ha Ha. Nothing better than waking up on a Sunday morning to a good joke.
Robbie

Shelvey : banned. duh.

More of the emperors new clothes

Allen is very limited, take a closer look

Did you not see how many defencive tackles he made and interceptions. Kept the game flowing and never lost the ball. He's miles better than jay spearing and Charlie Adam (our midfield last season).

Are you one of the people that rated mascherano? Allen is much better than him since he doesn't lose possession anywhere near as much.

You need to take into account his role for the team, he wasn't bought to win possession and then try 30 yard passes and instantly lose it again. He was bought so that we could retain possession after winning it back.

Got to agree with the OP regarding Allen - poor attacking ability for a DEFENSIVE midfielder. And don't get me started on Reina - 7 years at the club and NO goals and NO assists.

Clueless Reactionary

These posters criticizing Allen are either wind up merchants or more likely the sort of people who have never played them the game themselves. He always makes himself available and rarely wastes the ball. He is a proper midfielder who keeps the game ticking over and lets those around him look spectacular.

Bob

Clueless Reactionary: Reina does have a few assists but his goalscoring record is appalling ;)

Reina- at least one assist, for Riera, can't remeber against whom. Also, did he not set up Dossena at OT? For our FOURTH goal that day?

Mrpjd

Sorry, I thought Allen set up the 4th goal - I realise now it was Sahin. However, I didn't see Allen make any mistakes yesterday. He was quite efficient in his distribution, made some effective tackles, and didn't give the ball away.

If he'd cost £5m, would the same complaints be being made?

What an absolute knob of a post, obviously a plastic fan or someone who has never played football in my life, Joe performance always stabalises the team someone who is consistent and if you watch yesterday as with the 4th goal constantly puts the ball on the center forwards feet. His tackling is improving and yesterday he tirelessly broke up many of the dangerous attacks. Some people on hear are an absolute Joke.

Those slating joe Allen I doubt you have seen him play at anfield he is a gem of a player the comments of " he only passes it sideways" is just regurgitated nonsense from the Alan shearer analysis on motd the other week, bellendery of the highest order..

Reina's assist for Riera was against Aston Villa, the day Stevie scored a hat-trick.

Joe Allen is a very technically gifted footballer. Anyone who fails to see how important his role is simply doesn't understand football, or the balance required of playing with a midfield 3.

Joe

95 passes attempted. 91 completed.

What is your issue exactly?

Thank you Clueless - made me laugh

Common dudes like u i am a fan as well of the club, whats there to do wid the plastic thing, i said 15m is a waste of money for joe allen, what am i so wrong about, just playing passing game wid no penetration makes no sense. he lacks the ability to press and pass the ball wid penetration. i dont gibe a rubbish who shearer is and what his thoughts are, i am telling u what i feel, joe allen should be benced and jonjo should be giben a go as he has that flair to attack and score.

Lots to be proud of today, still indivdual errors causing goals but that is not necessarily that bad, in that it is something you can control and improve. We cant get too far ahead of ourselves but this is a good foundation to build on. Young lads were good again, some sparkling football, Suarez showing his best side, lots to like. Well done lads and bring on the next one. I have liked how we have played until now, allowing for it being a new system and many of the players only really joining the squad very late because of the Euro's and Olympics, but the best bit is you can see the players growing in confidence with the system and each other. BR is looking very promising.

Can I just mention how happy I am for the youngsters. I mean after Sterling, who was a revelation himself. I'm really excited about Suso. He's just another brilliant player at the age of 18. How he come up against MU and the other day he basically set up our winning goal against WBA! He completely deserved to get his place in the starting 11 at Norwich. And he didn't let us down, he was just terrific. He reminds me of David Silva, he's link up with Suarez was something else, he's a natural talent! Really exciting! On the other hand I want a jersey with Sahin's name on the back!!!

Hi eds, how do you get a member of lfc scouting or backroom staff to take a look at a player that you've noticed when you think he's worth a punt?
i'll tell you why, a player called 'johnny russell' caught my attention last year and since then have been keeping a close eye. he's 22yrs old, plays for dundee utd and has so so much potential. i dont think he would be that expensive and would fit our new style of play. a natural poacher and createshis chances, plus, plus, he is quick on his feet! what would you say?
