Ed can you tell me why jon flannagan has been playing center mid recently? He looks composed in cm, maybe his new position?
Ls7 -_- {Ed001's Note - because he lacks pace.}

Probably he might end up there in the future with the competition for the right back slot, Any way with lucas injury it would be sensible to play him over there for the short term and see how it pans out. If he clicks there we dont need to buy any def mid with coady and spearing in the background too.

Are we looking for Montolivo as Lucas' replacement and maybe his next partner in our midfield? Would be an awesome deal ! Plus he's only 26 and would cost around 6M!

Something needs to be done about these draw

I think an earlier poster got it right, we are much better getting them over two games than a one off at wembley, im not bothered playing city over two legs and the second leg is at home, we have any advantage there is that way, i think we can win the trophy we have been drawn away every game and deserve to win it any way, bob paisleys skids

30 Nov 2011 22:51:56
That's it then! With all the 'big clubs' out, we're in with a real chance!

Of course, only a 1/3 chance of City, but it just had to happen. It will be nice to play a championship side in the final though.

What a joke. Man city away. I knew it like every1 else did. Well annoyed.

Gezza1982 {Ed009's Note - Its two legs. There is no "away". In fact; we have them at Anfield for the second leg, arguably an advantage.}

True ed but i just knew we would get them. Lfc never have it easy but we normaly come out the winners. Fingers crossed come on lfc.

I'd sooner play them over two legs, the second being at home than in the final.

Im glad we get them now and not the final. Anfield second leg, bring them on. Its better this way over two legs. We will beat them lads dont worry about it.

good we have man city
if we lose in the semi final then it is better than losing to man city in the final so we rather play them now

Why do you think we are going to lose, we've played better than city last game we've played them m8, cheer up we will win.

Hello ,

Would you take Man City over 2 legs and a Championship team in the final or ?

A Championship team in the Semi's with Man City in a 1 off showpiece ? - for lifting the cup .

1977 {Ed009's Note - I'm indifferent. We can certainly beat them either way, but Kenny's tactical nous should allow us to out maneuver them over two legs. Here's hoping. I for one think that any cup matters, Carling or not.}

Does Kenny have that much tactical nous? He's a fantastic manager, don't get me wrong, but I think the common perception is that his skills lie more in man management. He's certainly not as obsessive a tactician as Houllier and Benitez were. I think a 2-legged tie against big opponents will be a really interesting test of his qualities as a tactician, given that it could be argued that he got his tactics wrong in Europe last year. I expect him to pass this test with flying colours. Really looking forward to the semis

Red Ollie

Yep , I reckon we have got a great chance against Man City over 2 legs with the 2nd leg at Anfield .

I think it will be tougher for City than Liverpool - but 2 fantastic games to look forward to .

Another real test , just what we need .

1977

He is def better than Mancini...We have often seen him fielding diff teams vs diff oppsoition.......Remember the back 3 against Chelsea last year........

Rafa is definitely the genius when it comes to on field strategy and tactical nous.......

He's a tall Geordie currently playing for Liverpool why do you ask? -McMenemy

30 Nov 2011 22:43:07
CMs -Adam, Henderson, Shelvey, Spearing at push Coady if needed and im sure Maxi can play centeral if needed so whats the sudden rush for a new DM n ow Lucas is injured...we don't even know how long he could be out for whethet is a month or 6 or a week -McMenemy

None of henderson, adam, shelvey or maxi are defensive midfielders. spearing is nowhere close to lucas. and if coady can't make the squad then there is a reason for that.

30 Nov 2011 22:43:03
Ok we got city as we all though we would but second game at anfield I think we can deal with that.

Ahoy - "Lucas is injured we need to spend loads of cash on a defensive midfielder"

Gerrards injured lets buy Xabi, Lucas is injured lets buy one of the 7 variations of Sissoko, Cissokho, Cissoko, 3 variations of Diarra, or the 14 available variations of Lucas different to the one we have.

We have a squad and in that squad we have cover in every position - that is why we sent Jay Spearing out on loan (Leicester if I remember correctly) and then offered him a long term contract.

Shelvey is then recalled to fill the gap - please stop seeing an unconfirmed injury as the chance to shoe horn your wish list into the squad.

We have assembled a squad for a reason and that squad will need to perform when called upon.

Lets be realistic - if its 6 months for Lucas we have cover which is considerably better than Darron Gibson, Carrick, Smalling.

There will be no panic buying.

Fair enough boiled onions but lucas's shoes will be hard to fill by spearing or jonjo imo. Huge blow for us if he is injured. Neve thought id be saying that a couple of years ago. Great player. Ill be saying a little prayer for him tonight because i fear the worst for us without him.

Downing has been awful so far but fully believe he will prove his worth over time, Fair play to Maxi stepping up to the plate and delivering whenever he is called upon.

It looks as if Lucas' injury could be more serious than everyone anticipated. Jonjo Shelvey is being recalled to provide cover; which indicates that Lucas could be out for quite a while.

30 Nov 2011 20:20:30
Stevie G, Jay Spearing, Maxi, Henderson, Adam, Downing, Kuyt, Coady, Bellamy, Aurelio, Suso, Shelvey, Sterling. Plus Amoo, Cloe, Aqualani, Pacheco. I think we have a lot of midfiedlers or players versatile to play in midfield, players out on loan, dependent on recall clauses. Do we need a short term replacement for Lucas? Or give game time to Spearing and Henderson? I would suggest we utilise what we have. I think Lucas did his cruciate ligament by the way he held the back of his knee and if so won't see him till next season. If that is the case and Stevie G is not back till January then we may see a new signing. Before everyone starts to state the obvious about Aqualani, Cole etc not coming back, they are still LFC employees and until they are officially moved on we won't spend money on replacements.

Evo

Its costs £ to recall them, Sissoko is up for sale £12m or M villa at a £25m push.

30 Nov 2011 20:01:51
Are we looking at any replacement for Lucas?
Just heard something about a Lassana Diarra 6 months loan. Would be very useful ! Is it likely?

Not for me, apparently his attitude stinks. Rather have Spearing who will work twice as hard.

Stu.

30 Nov 2011 19:53:32
If Lucas's injury is as bad as anticipated, will the chances of signing Moussa Sissoko in January increase? Thanks in advance Eds {Ed002's Note - It would not have any impact on it - they are completely different types of players.}

Sorry for the inconveniance, but i read that Sissoko was in the Viera mould, so wouldnt he be able to cover DM when needed? Thanks again {Ed002's Note - I am sure he could play out of position if needs be. Perhaps you are thinking of Mohamed Sissoko?}

Moussa sissoko has played as defensive midfielder in the past so could easily cover for lucas
TED

That's not his best or natural position though. Carra has played there before so has aurelio doesn't mean we should play them there. Give spearing a shot i say

30 Nov 2011 19:36:44
Would be over the moon if KK raids the Bundesliga and brings in 1. Mats Hummels, 2. Marco Reus 3. Robert Lewandowski. Could get all three for around the 35m mark, which I think would take our squad higher than 4th if we get them in January. All young with resale value if needed and all have very good stats for youngsters.

CanNOT get all three around the 35 mln mark. Reus is the only plausible candidate, but he alone will cost 18 mln, which is his release clause.
Hummels - out of the question; way too expensive, way too unwilling to come here; and finally - WE DO NOT NEED HIM!
Lewandovski - unproven, now he is in a form, but then again - so was Barrios last year, and everyone was raving. But right now Barrios is in a whole, and his name is not as much as mentioned, is it mate?

Drigan

If Hummels does eventually get here, will u still say we do not need him?

Agger + Hummels partnership seems solid.

Kaizer

IF he gets here, I will support him with all my heart; at this point of time however he remains an extremely expensive signing, that will take time to adapt, break a solid partnership between Skrtel and Agger, and probably stall the chances of kelly and Coates of breaking into the first team.
I'd take him any day in FM. In real life - not so much.

Drigan

To be fair Drigan I did not include Barrios because he is 27 and rated at 15m and has only scored 6 goals in 22 appearances for Paraguay. He has only 1 assist 0 goals in 10 appearances for Dortmund also this season. Lewandowski on the other hand is 23 rated at £6.2m and has played already 40 internationals for Poland netting 13 goals. For Dortmund he has 13 goals 6 assists in 22 matches. Lewandowski not only has nearly twice as many international games under his belt but has a better goals/games ratio than Barrios and he is also younger and cheaper, that is my rationale. Hummels is rated at 16m and Reus is rated at 12.5m (www.transfermarkt.co.uk) whilst I understand it is a ball park figure I do not find them unrealistic. Hummels for me is going to Epic in the future, but as you correctly point out whether he wants to join Liverpool is a different matter. I feel all three would improve our squad, not in FM but in real life. Forgot to sign my last post¦¦
K79

Agree with you Drigan. im just saying IF he comes here. Hes a good CB.

Hi Eds, just been watching Celtic vs Athletico and I've noticed that Kenny and Steve Clarke are in attendance.

How does Lucas' injury have anything to do with play 2 games in a short period of time? He made a late challenge and came off worse. We LFC supporters currently have a mind set of lets blame anyone. He was clumsy and now he is injured we just have to get on with it and hope he has a speedy recovery!

twitter.

The 19-year-old had settled well into life at Bloomfield Road, netting six goals in 10 appearances.

Talks were at an advanced stage between the two clubs to extend the player's loan beyond the end of December, however a knee injury to Liverpool's Brazilian midfielder Lucas has meant that the Reds have activated the recall clause for him to return to Anfield with immediate effect.

Getting fed up with all the Andy carrol haters thought he played well last night.Ok he missed a penalty but not on his own there. He may have gone down too easily once or twice, but what is wrong with getting a few cheap free kicks.just because he is a big lad does this mean he cant go down unless he gets assaulted.wonder if some of these posters have ever kicked a ball before.Get a life and support your club! YNWA

There is nothing wrong with getting cheap free kicks, lets be honest Suarez tries it all the time, its part and parcel of the game these days. Andy Carroll have certain abilities and maybe with time will get better, but if you think he played well last night then you must've been watching a different game, and it has nothing to do with his missed penalty, but when I look back at the game yesterday I really cant see any useful contribution from him, in the last 10 minutes he came back to defend and given away 2 free kicks in dangerous position , his frustration was getting the better of him.

DP

I just hope, not. he is not much better than Spearing.

30 Nov 2011 18:54:08
As far as we can tell, Lucas still hasn't had his scan but with the news that Jonjo Shelvy has been recalled from Blackpool it suggests the club is not confident the scan results will be positive.

For me, this is devastating news as Lucas and Adam were beginning to form a formidable partnership in the middle of the pitch with Lucas in particular looking immense in our last three games. I was loving it last night when he was snapping into those tackles on Torres. To all those people who still doubt Lucas' talents I'm sure you are going to see how much he will be missed in the upcoming games. He was one of the main reasons our defence has looked so solid this season. He has made more tackles than any other players in the Premier League this year. He is our first line of defence.

This is going to be a real big opportunity for either Henderson or Spearing to make a really big contribution to our season. And let's not forget that if Kenny can get us playing this well for the last 10-months without our captain and one of the greatest players to ever play for the club, then I'm sure he can cope without Lucas.

Get well soon Lucas

JRG

Hope Jonjo take this chance to show what he can do .

Can't see Jonjo playing defensive mid. He's an attacking midfielder. If anything Jonjo would've been recalled due to Gerrards injury.

Rewflo

Can't see Jonjo playing defensive midfield however, we could revert to a five man midfield with Adam, Henderson defensive mid and Jonjo slightly advanced in the role that Gerrard used to play when Torres was here?

"The supporters have always have been and always will be an integral part of us. Everything you see on the pitch reflects how they feel.

"For us, they will never ever be taken for granted. They always will be an integral part of anything we do or try to do. As long as everybody is as one unit then the club as a whole has a good chance. Once you start getting divisions in football clubs, you start getting problems - we haven't got that." Question for Eds

On Fifa 12 I have had great success by simply editing all my players stats taking Kuyt etc up to 99% ability. The team is UNSTOPPABLE!

Is there a way in real life to boost individual player stats in this way?
If so what teams are most successfull at exploiting this facility?

Ed what are your view on Henderson I personally love him ? {Ed002's Note - He is a decent player - but I have no amourous feelings for the kid.}

30 Nov 2011 18:05:02
Dear Ed002,

With Shelvey being recalled, it seems like Lucas is out for a long time. Do you think we will go for any player for that position or is kenny happy with our squad depth in that position? {Ed002's Note - As I have said, if players are injured (long term) or leaving then I would expect players to come in. However, Shelvey has been recalled and Gerrard will be back at sometime so a panic buy will not be a solution. Perhaps a loan, or perhaps an additional player for the squad. We'll see.}

And gerrard will get crocked again, they cant count on him after his past 2 seasons!

With Shelvey being brought back from blackpool, does that mean Lucas is out for a while? Hope not, one of our most important players.

I would like to introduce a new rule to this excellent site. I would like to call it Rule 21.
Rule 21 states that you do not slag Liverpool players. Praise the players you appreciate, but don't knock the ones that are struggling. At least not on the internet for God's sake. Save your criticisms for your home or your local pub.
You cannot support a team without supporting the all of the players. To support part of a team is to be a partial supporter.
Have faith in the the club. Criticising players on a global forum is very unlikely to help them, and is in fact more likely to diminish their confidence and self-belief, thus weakening the player, and in consequence, weakening the squad and the club.
Support in public - denigrate in private, or preferably not at all.
By the way, I picked 21 because that's Lucas's squad number, and a weaker personality may have called it a day a long time ago in the face of the public criticism he received from so-called supporters, who are now hailing him as a hero.
To be a supporter means to support. If you really have a downer on certain Liverpool players, then go and "support" some other team.

Criticism can be demeaning, yes.but can evoke evoloution, improvement and change too.If we were happy wifh the wheel, there would be no car, etc. But maybe we could all be more constructive in our criticism.ie.offer ideas/alterntives

I have a better idea if anybody has a problem with the players, drive down to Melwood and wait outside for the players and tell them face to face. If you think Carroll is slow, why not go and see if you can out run him?

MIKEY

Hmm what a load of crap, now your making the rules. this is a banter page mate, if were not able to criticise or have our own opinion then we might aswel be locked up in prison and our mouths taped.RedTurk

I think ANDY CARROL is crap

And a further new rule.Let's say Rule 22.
No posts to be shown without a name

Puzzled

I can out run Carroll no sweat over short distance, im sure he would run farther than me though.

Team v Fulham:

Reina
Johnson-Skrtel-Agger-Enrique
Kuyt-Henderson-Adam-Downing
Bellamy-Suarez

Switch Bellamy with Kuyt, take Kuyt out and play Maxi in midfield:

Reina
Johnson - Skrtel - Agger - Enrique
Bellamy - Henderson - Adam - Maxi - Downing

Suarez

Maxi scored a hat-trick against Fulham last year, lets hope he can do it again this time.

RenegadeRed

Bet maxi will play

Take downing out for me, that's not to say i think he's a waste of money etc etc but i think with suarez, bellamy, kuyt and maxi in the team we have some supurb link up play and overlapping.. bellamy and enrique were a hell of a lot more effective at this last night than downing has been

Cant argue with that.on form, downing misses out

Bellamy on the right wing to take on Riise Fulham`s left back- should be an interesting match up!

I wud play spearing instead of hendo. In away games, a dm is necessary.

30 Nov 2011 16:40:30
Lests keep our fingers crossed for Lucas and that he is ok because he is an exceptional player. I do though believe that we have fine cover in that position with spearing, adam, Henderson and also Gerrard to come back. Also conor coady and we have shelvey out on loan. It just annoys me when people say are we signing this and that player when we have a fine squad. Spearing for me was brilliant last night and as never let the team down when he as played.

Mighty reds

Spearing does appear most natural(if not yet same level)replacement to lucas,in style

30 Nov 2011 16:23:42
just read bob the reds post on the chelsea page, genius post!! {Ed002's Note - There are of course several flaws, but a good post nonetheless.}

To be fair to Chelsea, it hasn't been over-night success. They spent the 90's and immediate pre-Roman days throwing a bit of money around and building.
Mourinho bought well and turned them into a team.
But they're now having to come to terms with building a new team and staying at that level. Ferguson's done it, Wenger to an extent, various Liverpool managers did it. Abramovich will have to realise that to re-build will take stability at managerial level. There's absolutely no point chopping and changing, looking for an instant fix.
Man City will face this problem in a little while too.
And I do know a couple of 'old skool' Chelsea fans and they're sound. They've always had a true hardcore and good away support especially. Even if some of them were a bit 'naughty' !
The Real KB {Ed002's Note - I think some thanks for Chelsea should go to Claudio Ranieri as well. Chelsea were a respectable fourth before Abramovich arrived and were second in the league and Champions League semi-finalists before Mourinho arrived. Many of the buys (Lampard, Robben, Cech, Makelele etc.) were made by Ranieri not Mourinho.}

True ed.
What I've noticed with some of the London stadiums as well (Chelsea and Arsenal), there's a very sizeable number of one-off fans. There's a lot of tickets to be had for one-off matches, through various routes. Once over, it was the same people standing at the same point of the terrace or in the stand. That is much less the case anymore. At all grounds, but especially in London. Which accounts for the lack of atmosphere. People are more inhibited when they're only there as a one-off. Of course, it's so expensive and difficult to get a season ticket these days.
The Real KB

30 Nov 2011 16:18:40
weve always been slow starters to a season for some reason i dont know if we take it easy during preseason and then the epl more faster than most teams we play against but once we get into our stride we are a force look at last season after the chelsea game we wer unreckable force nocking 15 goals in 4 games wasnt it with not one but 2 5-0 we are getting into it abit early and hopefully we are at our strongest in february with the 4 big games and are pushing for 2nd instead o 4th

jayblair89

I think 2nd is being a a bit ambitious mate.I believe we can get 4th though.

Danny

What ever happend to ambitions matee! i dont ever like rocking the boat with things but the past 3 games weve been absaloutly outstanding and if results go our way why not we dont have CL fixtures to worry about the rest do...do we have europa on a thursday spurs doo teams will tire united chelsea and spurs will drop points and if we just keep plodding along getting along with our games we only 7 points behind united... how many points were we behind 4th place when kenny took over this man makes you belive and i fully belive in everyone hes bought carroll knows hes not guarennted until he gets his act togther

jayblair89

I like the positive thinking though mate.

Danny

Jay do you feel our pre season programmes,ie opposition we play, could be tougher?ie play in better quality pre season tournaments?

30 Nov 2011 16:12:16
Coates as Lucas stand-in in the DM positon? What do you guys think? Thhe big lad has all the necessary qualities to do well there, methinks. Just imagine Coates playing in front of Skrtel and Agger.

BooDaBooze

Coates is way too slow for that position considering he's a centre half!! We have Spearing and also Gerrard coming back so i dont see why people are panicking... Dont get me wrong Lucas has been unbelievable the last 2 seasons and will be missed in his position but i feel Spearing can do a good job in his absence... I think people should just wait for the club to make a statement about how severe Lucas's injury is before writing off his season

Think people have been watching Phil Jones too much !
Leave Coates alone to develop and get used to where he is, never mind putting him in midfield.
The Real KB

Slowness has nothing to do with it, he has atleast the same as lucas

Lucas is not the quickest, is he? And yet, he is doing fantastically well as DM. DM is not about pace, but about passing, composure and the ability to read the game well, plus quick footballing brain. I think Coates has all those attributes. Besides, it'll give the big lad a chance to play instead of rotting away on the bench. I say Kenny should try him there.

BooDaBooze

Let him settle in first, before pressuring him with position change. If balance nearly there with Lucas, just tweak it till hes back.Far to Radical

If anything i would put agger there before coates, but like others have mentioned no need for drastic decisions spearing is definitely able to do the job.

30 Nov 2011 16:05:12
I am sorry but I just want to clarify and I am sure the Ed's may share similar or the same views but as far as Lucas' injury is concerned, nobody knows the length of his injury until he has had a scan! So please can fans stop speculating and wait for the OFFICIAL announcement from the club! YNWA

I hope that in two years or three years time everyone see it as a disaster that Carroll gets an injury.

This is the perfect example as to why people need to be patient with him, 18 months ago people would've been praying for Lucas to get injured..

Stu.

But, and a BIG BUT....HUGE..(HIPPOPOTAMUS)
at that time we had ALONSO, MASCH AND GERRARD i rest my case. and if you dont get what im saying i'll explain.

lucas was number 4 so we didn't want to se him start ahead of the big three. there-for we wanted our stongest players to play and thats probably where it all started because we started to make comparisons and you can say what ever you want be at the time he wasn't on the same level as them.

carroll was brought AS our number 1 yet we all think he should be behind kuyt and bellamy to partner suarez regarless of the price. because lucas didn't get where he is today by jumping ahead of alonso and masch

another thing off topic, Carroll dives more than suarez and i think suarez got hes moaning and whining from him. (just saying ED.001 if suarez isn't for you based on the way he caries himself you must loathe Carroll)

Haych

I don't think Carroll dives...he just doesn't look like he has much upper-body strength and he always gets pushed off the ball...maybe its just me.

GuvTOB

I got told today that according to most premier league clubs Liverpool has the best sports science department in the country. And what they don't know about a players fitness isn't worth knowing. Apparently its on a scale of 1 to 10 and big Andy isn't even on the scale! Make of that what you will, coupled with pepe saying hes the worst trainer it does make you wonder. I had a chat with ed 1 last week about his upper body strength, or lack of it. I want andy to do well he has the making of being a very good player for years to come! But Andy pull your finger out pal.
SuperRedTed

Thats not excuse in my opinion mate. Just because there were better players than him, doesn't give the right to crucify him as he was.

And besides, he was still getting stick long after Xabi had left the club, up until Roy took charge.

I find your last part ludicrous too. Suarez is a moaner not because Carroll dives or is, it's his personality. He's very passionate on the field.

Stu.

Think maybe lads moaner bit Stu,mayve been tounge in cheek m8

Stu your reading the wrong post mate.
i agree lucas was overly abused but thats not my fault? its not like i abused him. its just a option i had personaly based on the players around him at the time.

and i think you'll find that most people started to see something in lucas in the 08-09

the bit about the last part is crazy i dont get what your saying...
i'm a suarez fan 100% and i know he is passionate, I was talking to ed when i said that because he said something like suarez isn't for me because he moans to much etcc.. and thats why i was saying well if suarez isn't for you because he moans then you must dislike carroll more because carroll's body language and moaning is far worse.

read the post dont just skim through and make up stuff.

anyway all i was saying is lucas was bought to be liverpool's midfielder of today(which he is), carroll to replace torres and right now he's not there, there are players playing better than him that we can use like kenny is doing. is kenny suppose to scrap the in form and experienced players for carroll who might or might not one day be a prolific cf.

Haych

Okay mate, i see where your coming from.

Stu.

Felt sorry for AC last night not his biggest fan at all but he was trying hard. I dont know how many times the ball was on the wing and it wasn't crossed. Commentator slated him for missing the penalty saying it was a bad place to put it. Clown straight down the middle has the highest success rate, he was just unlucky, he seems to have it in abundance. Coates looked the real deal last night , reading the game well. I have seem him play before and maybe it was the players around him last night but he looks like a giant. Can see him serving us well over the next few years. Had a look at the kid Suso on youtube

www.youtube.com/watch?v=o_pSRZsGasw

Himself Sterling and the young ones we already have future looks good.

The problem with Suso is that he hasn't got enough stamina to last 90 minutes during ressie football, considering the step up to prem football and higher pace of football he would need to be slowly introduced.

KT!

My biggest problem with carroll at the minute is that he really doesn't seem to have the pace or possibly the footballing brain to get himself into the dangerous areas often enough.. he has a wicked left foot so it isn't really a necessity that it's played in the air all the time.. however when it is he's hardly ever in the right place, he doesn't dominate the area and make the ball his.. it's almost as if he's waiting for a pin point cross to hit his head!

Unfortunately have to agree with you sideshow.Lets hope it changes.Mr.Whinge

Dont you think we had heard similar things about Lucas a couple of seasons back?

Hi all, got to say that the last couple of games have shown what we are all about. We've had that great vocal support from fans at the games and we've shown the amazing quaity of football we are capable of producing week-in, week-out.

Our current team:

GK: Reina and Doni- Reina has shown his class and strength on his feet and is one of the best goalkeepers in the league. From what I have seen of Doni he is a capable understudy to Reina.

CB: Agger, Skrtel, Coates and Carragher- Agger and Skrtel are developing a strong defensive partnership. They are capable of withstanding the best strikers of the EPL. Coates is proving to be a great snap-up as he was strong in yesterday's game and was quick to read the gameplay of Chelsea. He is doing well to learn as much as he can from Carragher, who I think will be slowly phased out towards the end of the season and probably will take a coaching role in the years to come.

RB: Johnson and Kelly: Both have shown their strong capabilities defensively and in the opposition's half; as thay have scored in our 2 games against Chelsea and have put forward a strong defensive performance.

LB: Enrique- He has shone this season and proven to be bargain transfer. He's been solid and been a constant threat to opposition in the final third as he is a formidable cross.

CM: Adam, Lucas and Henderson- Adam has proven to be a great bargain, as he has shown pride and commitment towards LFC alongside the ability to be a creative CM. Lucas has moved on leaps and bounds from a couple a seasons ago, now that he has been able to come out of the shadows of Alonso and Mascherano. He is solid rock in our CM which is able to break down the strongest of midfields (as shown by his performance against Manchester City). Henderson is a pleasing prospect for me, as he has shown glimpses of his ability and is improving in confidence, which is showing in his performances of late.

LW/RW: Maxi, Bellamy, Kuyt and Downing: I understand Bellamy is primarily a striker but acts more of a wide player, as does Kuyt. Maxi and Bellamy are linking up well in the current matches, both have pace and have a good understanding of each others movement. They have provided some much needed assistance to Suarez up front. I think they should be provided with more starting opportunities. Downing has the capabilites of troubling most defences with his pace and deliveries, but I think he has become slightly inconsistent. He had an amazing start to the season and has put some glittering performances in for country and I think to make him perform more consistently he needs some competition for a place in the team list and Maxi and Bellamy provide this. Hopefully he will score a goal soon to help him gain confidence. Kuyt has always been a player I've admired for his work rate and ethics. He puts in his all in to every match. I think after this season he may be moved on, to cash-in on him now rather than leaving for next to nothing later on.

ST: Suarez and Carroll- Suarez has been immense and a dependable figure providing us with a creativity, that provides us with goal-scoring chances in the opposition's half. Carroll has been slated for underperforming and for his hefty price tag. But I think that he will hopefully come good in the future. He has the abillity to trouble defenders and hold up the ball for supporting players. It was good to see him helping out in our own half yesterday.

For me this team is a strong opposition for any other team in the EPL. We have strong depth in our squad (and thats without including some of the promising talent of likes of Morgan, Sterling, Coady, Suso, Wilson, Shelvey, Silva, Ngoo and others).

I hope over the next two transfer windows we purchase a striker, a central midfielder and maybe a right winger. I've heard the names Podolski, Soldado, Luuk de Jong, Moussa Sissoko, Yann M'Vila, Adam Johnson mentioned. I think any of these are realistic targets (only one for each position ofcourse) and would add to our attack.

KennyD JFT96

Very much agree mate. Personally I would have moussa sissoko, luuk de jong and affelay. These are all very affordable as well.Affelay is a risky one to buy as he is injured for a while but i would try and get him next summer as he can add a different dimension to are team.

Danny

I would agree with 2 out of 3 of your choice mate. My choice personally would be to get Roberto Soldado, Moussa Sissoko and Ibrahim Afellay. I like what i've seen of Luuk de Jong, he has s good shot conversion rate and good awareness. But I think Soldado is more of an all-round accomplished than Luuk de Jong. he has the clinical finish which we seem to be lacking, mixed with good pace and movement. He also has good vision allowing him to link up with creative players more easily. He soon will be commanding interest from more clubs due to his current form, so if we were to get him, it would be amazing as he would be a class act alongside Suarez.

I agree with you on Afellay as he would provide that extra threat down the right-hand side.

KennyD JFT96

I would definitely have soldado as well. Its just the price may be difficult to negoatitate.

Danny

I think we would be able to get Soldado for around the £20 million mark, although that would be costly it would be justified as he is a class player and his current form shows him to be improving vastly since the last two seasons. I think the main problem would be whether he would prefer a move to the EPL or more specifically to LFC. I think that he may be persuaded to playin the EPL by the success of ex-team mates Mata and Silva and compatriots Torres, Reina and Enrique.

hi eds I am delighted with the win yesterday.Would love to win the carling cup and possibly top 4 would be a great season for us.I would just like your take on the season so far.I'm I being to optimistic wanting top 4 and the cup?

thanks
Danny {Ed001's Note - I still think top 4 and a cup win is very possible, we are looking stronger and stronger as the season goes on.}

Why set your sights so low we have a good run off games before the window reopens i can see utd city an Spurs pulling each other down leaving it wide open for us or i'm i being too optimistic

ED, is it true that Lucas is looking as 6 months out. If so was it worth it. IMO no. he should have been rested Daglish should have known he has no replacement on the bench for him in a straight swap in case this happened. What a shambles. All for the poxy 2bob cup {Ed001's Note - stop whining! We needed a win to keep up the momentum, I am sure you would have bitched if Lucas had been dropped. There is no certainty of how long Lucas is out until he has a scan.}

Well said ed

I bet you would still have moaned if we would have got knocked out of the cup. Some fans are never happy.Even if he is out for a while jay spearing can do the job for us.well at least till January if we choose to sign a midfielder. Pls buy moussa sissoko if this is the case.

Danny

I hope its not true ,i think we will struggle without lucas ,i cant belive how good he is turning out to be !!

Agree with ed,first eh ed,lol,Mr.Whinge

I think Adam has improved alot. With each game he played he has improved, and im happy to see him play better week in week out.

Just something interesting, our signings this season, up to this point of the season, the cheaper, the better.

Jose Enrique 6m
Charlie Adam 8m
Henderson 14m
Downing 19m

Henderson and Downing is starting to improve too, not great, but improving.

Kaizer

I agree mate. Also no one seems to have given Seb Coates a mention.I think he was very good yesterday. For only 7 million he will be a future bargain.

Danny

I'm surprised Kenny and Holy Camolli haven't been arrested because Enrique was a serious steal at 6m!

Myk

Oh yeah, forgot about Coates. but if i were to fit Coates in, I would put him behind Henderson in my list though. but its just because he has not played enough games for me to say he has done better than Henderson. However, he has done very well against Chelsea. He is one for the future, very good prospect.

Why is everyone slating Carroll so much?

Lads, i would highly recommend going over to Chelsea's banter page and have a read of our very own 'Bob the Red' s post/tirade .its devastatingly well put. a thing of beauty!

I will check it out then. lol

Still being fairly new (ish) to this site I have only just discovered the joys of the other teams pages. Slightly naively I really did think this was the only version on the web. Then i found the ManUtd one and subsequently the Chelski page. Just read Bob's post and it was great. Well done sir.

Football banters great isn't it. Far better than real work!

What i promise will happen United will beat Palace; then United will beat Cardiff in the semifinals at home leaving the in the finals with there hardest match being Cardiff

Meanwhile we'll get City which will be a bugger of a game and if we get too the final we would have had to have beaten Stoke and Chelsea away plus city..... -McMenemy

Bring them on. Over two legs we will win.

Just imagine how good Kenny Dalglish's LFC team would be with a firing Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres in the ascendancy .

We now have what we were missing for a very long time . With a little more inspiration in the final third , the team would appear all conquering .

Some harsh comments on Andy Carroll in recent weeks but i think he did ok last night.
Also Jordan Henderson got some ridiculously low marks (4 and 5 out of 10) in the Monday newspapers, but I thought he showed flashes of renewed confidence on Sunday and might now have settled at the club. I would have given him a 7/10 for sunday.

Any news of progress with regard to the Stadium, ed?

Chrismiz {Ed001's Note - not yet sorry, I was expecting some kind of announcement by now, the infrastructure surrounding the area seems to be the hold up. It is putting a cap on the potential size of stadium we can have, my fear is that the club will start investigating a new stadium in another area if a solution to that can't be found.}

Ed001 would the club be able to get a plot on the docks on its own without having to share with Everton?

I'm not keen on a ground share or moving away from Anfield but if it means the club move forward and get say a 75,000 capacity, state of the art stadium it could be worth it.

The stadium that the two clowns had designed looked very impresive and looked like it would have an atmosphere that would be out of this world.

I'm not to impressed with stadium like the Emirates and hope they use the ones from the previous design.

Your opinion would be appreciated

TIZER RED
{Ed001's Note - it might well be frowned on by the council, with Everton needing a stadium as well. But, with them not being keen on sharing either, it might well be possible.}

A new stadium on the docks would look amazing. Planning permission would be almost impossible to get with it being a world heritage site and Liverpool already in danger of losing it though.

MIKEY

Mikey I read somewhere that the council were pushing for us to share a ground with Everton. It also read that it could be involved in the docks redevelopment program.

I was wondering because of the infrastructure of Anfield, was it possible to get a plot on the docks without Everton.

Not sure if it was paper talk or what, but can't wait for office news.

TIZER RED

That might of been before the council became aware the world heritage status was under threat though tizer. It was only a week or 2 ago the inspectors where in Liverpool to decide if the redevelopment of the docks would threaten it. A new stadium on the docks would be amazing. Imagine our stadium on the same skyline as the liverbirds and on all them postcards.

I remember at the start of the season i stated in my opinion,Lucas was the best holding midfielder in the Prem if not Europe. Quite a few other names were thrown by other posters replying like Scott Parker,Tiote,Busquets maybe a couple more. I was right then, and i think, well know i'm right in saying he's even added to his game since he won the Golden Samba. I think he's the in form player in the Prem who deserve's all the accolade's he's rightly been getting because he's one of the best midfielder's in the Prem full stop. Attacking, holding, orthadox whatever. The s**te he had to overcome to get were he is shows how tough the guy is upstair's. Which brings me to my next point, we should all start getting behind the two whipping boy's at the club. You guessed it Carroll and Henderson. The hysterical posts that poured in after he missed a pen was f***in ridiculous. What's he done? Cried one, like he'd pushed the button to start a nuclear holocaust. He's one of the sweetest strikers of a ball we've got at the club, ask Pepe. Same with Henderson, its always and I mean always one of those 2 faults when something goes wrong. No they've not set the world alight since they come but their defo gettin better and as fellow Liverpool fans join me in supporting 2 of our own players. Let's not have Lucas is s**te syndrome all over again because they may well not quite have his mental strength and do one before we get to see the very best in them.

Sorry, never signed off on the above post.
Jonson.

Absolutely spot on mate- even if you think Andy or Jordan are duff players, you should keep your opinion quiet and give them a chance, they might not be as thick skinned as Lucas was.
Or criticise a particular game or performance of course, but don't generalise and say they'll never be any good, because they are their friends read these pages, and it must get to them at times.
They need positivity and support, and to be allowed a full season or two to adapt, just as Lucas did.
Lets not forget that the fans are a very real part of the club, in terms of having a part to play in lifting the players.
We are an active part of the picture, and we have a responsibility to be positive and support our players when things aren't going so well.
It's not just about watching and giving opinions- this is a very public place, and talking on a site like this is not like giving your opinion to a mate in the pub- it can be damaging to player's morale.
The fans are part of the effort of winning a trophy, by giving all the support we can give.
And just like a player who isn't trying hard, a lack of commitment on our part can weaken the overall cause of winning games and playing good football.
We are active players in this campaign, and we really can influence the end result for better or worse- we need to remember that.

I agree, a missed pen happens to everyone. If we look at the season Suarez has missed one and so has Kuyt and no one would want them out of the team. The game was won and thats all that matters. Also congrats to Mr. Kelly on his first goal for the club hopefully he will get many more.

Great result last night!

Is it me or did KK have a bloody red eye? I think it was his left eye? I noticed it when the cameras showed him on the touchline, and again on post match interview. Wonder whats happened there?

I noticed it. one second it was normal then it looked like he had a demon in him, seen it more than once lol

Yes and he declined to give an after match interview , dont think he looked quite right , but then he had just got us into the semi finals , so thats good enough for me , just hope we beat city in the semi final tho . redforever

Hey chaps, just found this little nugget whilst crusing through the Chelsea pages. Absolutely hilarious. These fans are everywhere!!!!

Now i have posted a tirade on their page, which i hope ED002 sees it in him to put up. I'm sorry ED002 i just couldn't resist.

I've had 6 years of listening to their tripe whilst at the same time licking our wounds consistently. It's time for some payback. And yes you bet. Let's kick 'em when they're down :) With the fortunes of both clubs over recent years i have earned the right! :)

Just read your post on the Chelsea page Bob - I only have one word to describe it - QUALITY.

I just read your post on the Chelsea banter page. oh my God! Take a bow .

Just had a read of your post on the Chelsea page, every point is bang on Bob, IMO Chelsea fans are the most vile bunch, up there with Millwall fans. Disgusting bunch of 'humans'.

Just take a few years ago I was down south with my work mates for a job near Kings road, cutting it short, lets just say I didn't know what a 'Chelsea smile' was, unfortunately for them they didn't realise I was 6'3 and my mate was a bit of a nutter.....and Why? because I was wearing a Liverpool scarf......Still have a two scars on my left arm from a pen knife, and I was aged very late teens just imagine what its like for people that actually can't defend themselves, Put me off from ever going to a match in London.

Is there any chance in signing Javi Martinez if Lucas is injured? Even when lucas gets back i think thoose two would be rock solid in the midfield, and adam could move forward in a more atticking role.

Wouldnt mind moussa sissoko too.

Martinez wud cost around 30 million pounds. Too expensive for us. Moussa Sissoko for 15 million wud be a good piece of business n more realistic. Martinez will end up at Shi**y next summer i think.

Cardiff vs Man City

Whichever way it is, I'm quite sure Kenny Dalglish would come out with another surprising formation and tactics.

Recent post states that we should go for Tiote. Are Newcastle just a feeder club for us? We have bought Carroll and Enrique. We have been linked with Colloccini, Ryan Taylor and now Tiote. Finally - Andy Carroll is useless!!!

You are a useles supporter!!
Zoula

You say Andy Carroll is useles!!

Kenny Dalglish said Andy Carroll was magnificent - guess who's word I'm going to take .

1977

Andy carroll is useless? r u bloody kidding me. he is way better than many strikers who would just sulk on the pitch when theyr are out fo form and not scoring whereas the 6'3'' geordie is fighting it out with whatever he can give to the team with his height in defence or tussling the defence when they r manhandling suarez.
This all makes him more of a team player than a selfish number 9. Did u see his frustration when he missed the penalty. he needs the break. football aint only about scoring, it is about playing for the team too. did u look at the sulking kid play yesterday, the guy wanted to take on Liverpool defence by himself and forgot there r 10 other players aslo for whom he might play whereas Carroll just came back for defence held the game and did everything correctly except score.
When he scored that header or a ferocious 30 yard shot, u will be praising him again. Stick with the team and the lads mate.

Lotve good points stick with team efc.But you cant say Carrolls been effective.Fine saying hope he will be.But so far he aint mate

I don't think we need to criticise players going through a rough spot , it is now he needs the most support .

This is where great fans are invaluable , lets be patient and see what 'Kenny the Master' is going to produce with Andy Carroll over the next 4 years .

A football club is for life , not just for christmas .

Hello Fellow Reds,

Fantastic game yesterday, great performances all round I think.

Quick question to everyone, EDs please do give your opinions, given that the team is gelling very well and performing, where on earth would we put Gerrard? He is a world class player no doubt but in the middle of the park you have the blossoming partnership of Adam and Lucas. We have Downing on the left wing. Also we have a very attacking and mobile unit in Bellamy, Suarez, Kuyt and Maxi. These four seem to understand each other very well.

For me Gerrard at the moment would not get in the first 11 purely for the reason that I would not want it to affect our momentum. I think if he was put in the first 11 it would have to be at right wing or as CAM behind Suarez.

The good thing is, that we have come along way in just a year, so much so that the undroppable Gerrard may even struggle to get a game.

{Ed001's Note - Gerrard would stay on the bench for me, if the team is playing this well when he is back.}

Funny guy?

Gerrard would play where ever Kenny wants him!

Gerrard will not warm the bench for the armchair managers!

There is not a player in current liverpool squad who is better than Gerrard and that includes suarez.

And is you think downing and Maxi offer more than Gerrard that says it all. QED.

If you look at it in another way though mate it works tht gerrard can fully get himself over this injury properly and once fully fit you got to go with the 4-3-3 with lucas adam and gerrard with either suarez bellamy kuyt or suarez carroll bellamy or downing suarez maxi it works fine and i love the competion gerrards getting he was always first on the sheet now hmmmm we might get to see gerrard at his finest now hes got competion

jayblair89

Lets just say, replacing henderson's crosses with gerrards will make a huge difference and carroll will score goals coz gerrard knows how to put a good ball in the box, gerrard on the bench haha, hes a head of henderson and downing no matter what, even kuyt, adam, lucas, if kenny wished to play him there, but were strong, were missing a good attcking midfielder. and we will all see why we havent been scoring enough goals.

Wouldn't spearing be an ideal replacement for Lucas if the injury is bad? Considering how few 1st team games he gets when he has played he has been largely very effective. I do think we need another defensive midfielder also but i do think he has outstanding commitment and excellent work ethic and though he may not be world class yet, or perhaps ever sometime having someone who loves playing for a club and is fully commited can be more effective than a player with loads of potential but the wrong attitude

Spearing is not as bad as is often made out and he would be an ideal replacement for Lucas.

Towards the end of last season when he was playing he played quite well admittedly he is no Souness but then who is?

Balance of side aswell as individuals has to be considered.Think Spearing may keep balance intact.Mr.Whinge

If Lucas is out for a long time do you think any chance of tiote in January? I think chelsea are interested but weve beaten them twice now and i think tiote would fit Liverpools buying strategy perfectly.

As a Supporter I do what it say's on the tin, I support. Have allways backed Lucas, I back Carrol, henderson, Downing and all the lads and believe it is up to the club and manager to move the players on or improve them as they see necessary. Now with that said I am concernd about the Lucas injury and the lack of cover, spearing has been on the fringes of the first team for a long time now and yet not managed to convince the management into giving him a regular start ( infact other young midfielders have been brought in ). I have seen nothing really of Coady so can't quote on him, but wondering Ed's or anyone else do you agree there seems to be a lack of confidence in Jay and do you think this will change any possible transfer priorities in the next window?
RNRed {Ed001's Note - there has always been the possibility of buying players due to injuries. Though I do think Spearing or Coady will be given the chance to prove themselves first.}

As I mentioned, not really seen anything of Coady, I've heard good things what kind of midfielder is he and how good is he at the moment (is he good/strong enough for first team)?

This site is terrible for fans picking on players. it used to be lucas then it was maxi then kuyt now carroll. theyre all at lfc for a reason.

Not sure why this is a reply to the above maybe you can explain Ed? I asked has anyone seen Coady regulary and how do they rate him, and I questioned why Jay who is now 23 and is in his 4th season not established himself as a first team starter? Where was the slagging off ?
RNRed {Ed001's Note - I think someone must have clicked the wrong reply button mate.}

Very fecious ed001 but then that's part of your make-up {Ed002's Note - Actually I am the facetious one. But clearly you have your own problems.}

Am I the only one to have noticed that, since KK took over, and more so this season, our more senior players, (Kuyt, Maxi, Bellamy et al) seem to be playing more like players in their early twenties? Other teams with older players, Chlesea and Man Utd for example, seem to play a slower game when their elder statesmen are on the pitch, whereas we seem to pick up the pace. whatever's going on in training needs to continue as we seem to be getting the best of each player

I think that we haven't been overly reliant on our "older players". They have all been rotated or used sparingly keeping them fresh... it helps to have a number of young legs around though too.

Richards

I think it also has something to do with them being allowed to play their natural game, both maxi and bellamy look like completely different players under kenny and his fluid pass and move football. Imagine how many other players could have potentially not been flops under different management?

If Lucas' injury turns out to be a bad one (let's hope not he's been superb) the 2 names that spring to my mind are, Yann M'Vila (young gifted and we've shown an interest before I believe) and a certain Xavi Alonso (highly unlikely I suspect)
Your thoughts Ed?

Chris in Tamworth
{Ed001's Note - I would think Moussa Sissoko and Yann M'Vila are the most likely.}

How is it fixed it teams assigned to numbers pulled out so i cant see it being fixed.DORSET RED

Ha , I think the draws have been fixed for a long time ,also the prem fix-ture list , how about when chelsea got all them easier games , about 7 , at the start , and how man u always , always get the handy games , okay , united to get c.palace .

Hope for man city in final,
at least they will give us a game
of football - United too easy these
days mate.

All you have to do with the draw to fix it is freeze 2 of the 4 balls so that way if you want us and Cty 2 play each other you simply pull out the 2 frozen balls. Not hard is it, its bin going on for years fergie always seems to draw the lesser opposition in cups to ensure they reach the final.

Iv noticed in the fixtures aswell they never get the likes of citeh and then chelsea strate of the bk they have like wigan or summit after big games stupid

There is nothing fixed. It's just that throughout many seasons m.u. have had a LOT of Luck. Maybe that's finally going to change. We saw a beginning with a penalty AGAINST m.u. at o.t.

Why not try Coates as a holding mid if Lucas is out injured. Coates has the ability to pass, speed and composure on the ball. Ed just a thought.

What I noticed about the whole Liverpool set-up last night was there seemed to be a real togetherness, a team spirit. As well as the lads fighting for each other on the pitch and the work-rate, there was encouragement from everyone. Kelly's delight at netting.
Everyone on the bench was getting involved, i even noticed Suarez on his feet when AC was taking the penalty.
Bellamy got a nice little thank you off Charlie Adam as he was leaving the pitch, and a big hug off Kenny as well.
Really good to see and feel. Of course our away support was brilliant too. Even chanting for AC after he duffed his penalty kick.
I've noticed in the past, and I'm not trying to start a war or anything here, but Gerrard could be a right, surly-faced ****er. Even when he'd scored.
But I certainly liked the 'vibe' that I got last night.
The Real KB {Ed001's Note - Gerrard has been in the past, but he has changed too, look at him celebrate in the box (though personally I hate to see players sat in a box when they could easily sit in the stands with the rest of the fans), he is part of the better vibe around the club.}

Spot-on again Real KB - there is a feel good factor around the club again. The players look happy at what they are being asked to do and (a majority) of the fans are happy at what they are seeing. The football that is associated with Liverpool has returned.

The transformation at the club compared to this this time last year is truly astonishing and for that we must thank the owners but more importantly Kenny. He has given the players confidence to go out onto the pitch and enjoy what they are doing.

JRG

Yes, I think enjoyment is one of the key factors JRG.
The case of Jay Spearing highlights the team spirit thing for me. The lad hasn't had that much game time but, when he has been called upon, he's come in and done a great job.
Blair was saying last night that he's the best trainer at the club too.
I hope that, if Lucas is out for a wee while, that Spearing gets his chance cos he deserves that.
The Real KB

Spearing is not up to the job. Liverpool need players of much more ability. Nice
lad but not good enough.

I must admit I suggested Henderson to replace Lucas in the middle but I think yourself and Blair are right about Spearing. He deserves his chance. He played most of last season and put in more than acceptable performances.

I think the value of Lucas was highlighted when he went off last night. As soon as he left the pitch, Chelsea started to put pressure on our defence.

Special mention to Coates though who I thought was magnificent.

JRG

Everton fan here... Really great to see the Liverpool fans chanting 'There's only one Gary Speed' in the game last night. Fantastic to see that show of respect. Many thanks and congratulations on the win.

Wizard of Osman

Hate have no place in football. yes we have oposition but we hate no one.

Gary Speed was a true inspiration to everyone who worked with him; the reaction over the last few days to his untimely and sad death proves that. At times like this, when things are at their worst, the fans are at their best. After Hillsborough the Red fans were taken in to the hearts and in the souls of the Blues (mostly family and friends by the way) and at this sad time when remembering a blue legend, You Will Never Walk Alone.

Great result last night, cant believe Carroll missed the peno tho. In fairenss he shouldn't of taking it in the 1st place. Poor Meireles & Torres :)

Anyway, i want to get a few of your thoughts regarding Suarez. It has prob been brought up on this forum but have to say it. Even though Suarez is an amazing player, with great skill and work ethic im really disappointed with his diving and looking for free/peno's whenever there is contact. Now dont get me wrong if he won a peno for us going to too easily i wont be complaining but he just seems to go down at every opportunity. It isn't the Liverpool way and i hate seen it. Especially going out watching young kids playing football and seen them do the same thing cause they are watching football and seen not just Suarez, but most centre forwards diving and going down too easy. I hope KK has a word with him and tries to stop him from diving.

Overall great player - but would be a better player if he improved this part of his game

Bar B

Everyone knows that but some are afraid to admit to it.

Absolute rubbish post . suarez falls down when got contact . that's simple .

Yeah, people take it as blasphemy. it IS possible to love suarez and criticise him. in fact, that shows we care about the ethics of the game and of the club and not just blindly ignoring any faults a player has, just because he's one of our best. he does get kicked about a lot without the ref seeing it so it is understandable that he would get his own back, picking up free kicks when he can in dangerous areas ,and off course that is of huge benefit to us as we have the likes of Adam and Bellamy to whip the ball in. he is also very isolated in the present formation which probably makes him go down quicker as there is not much support around him. But
too much of this is not only unethical, it is ultimately disadvantageous to the team as it can lead to a 'boy who cried wolf' situation as his reputation for going down too easy will get firmly planted in the minds of the refs. Notice how often Drogbas claims for penalties has been ignored even when he has been genuinely
fouled .It happened just last week in dortmund and had they got and scored the penalty they would be through to the knockout stage of the champions league now and not in the very precarious situation they are. refs are human and reputations do play a factor. but players can change this. look at christiano ronaldo, who was far worse than suarez. he knocked it on the head (excessive diving anyway) and lost that 'diver' tag. But I believe that kenny Dalglish knows all this , and knows vastly more than I or practically everyone does about football, but also about man management.

Dara D

Good post Dara. And to that guy that said rubbish post. Are you blind, yes he does get kicked around but he does go down way too easy and early in my opinion

Bar B

I agree with much of what Dara D said, but Dara, please never compare Suarez going down easy when he is fouled, to the whinging performing circus sealion from Portugal.

Thanks

neekcub

Fair enough neekcub, though in my defense, I was using the most extreme example I could think of.

Morning all, I sincerely hope Lucas does not have a serious injury after him showing once again what an important and influencial player he is becoming. Something did concern me however when he made the tackle. This is hardly the best diagnostic tool but often when a player clutches the back of his knee following a 'jarring' type injury this can often be the sign of a cruciate ligament injury. I really hope this isn't the case but in recent years my mind springs back to joe cole when at chelsea. He reacted exactly the same way, tried to come back on but his knee wouldn't hold up. Fingers crossed it's not so serious and the scan today offers us some good news.

If its not great news however the push for a new centre mid may definitely be on in Jan.

Cheers
Greggers

We need another midfielder. Lucas n gerrard r out injured, hendo is still finding his feet at the club, n adam is a bit inconsistent. Sissoko wud be gr8 signing.

hi guys,
my post is not related to any sort of jan signing..
its revolving about the spirit of our club and passion.
i have seen many sites regarding the comparison of carroll and torres and read the comments of both the clubs fans!
i feel gutted to read how our club is supporting carroll and wishing him best for the future times and how chelsea fans are criticizing their striker.
thts what we are all about guys, we support our players in their bad times and help them move on..
carroll will be amazing fr us. just give him some more time. we have the squad to compete even if he is not at his best !

I never slag off the team or manager because it doesn't do any good. But why would kenny choose to play lucas, one of our most important players, for the carling cup. Who cares about it? If it wasn't for lucas, man city would have thrashed us. we don't have another holding midfielder...

Your forgetting Jay Spearing mate, who arguably towards the end fo last season was our stand out player.

Adzii

Disagree mate, we need a trophy this season and this is most likely. Im sure other fans will agree we should take both seriously.

Rewflo

Conor Coady could perform the role also

RedSG

It's fantastic the way way Lucas has come on that you even posted this. This is a realistic chance of silverware so thank god we did play some of our best players, you can't rest them all for fear of an injury. We have been positive in this years competition which makes such a change from recent years.

Kenny can't win such is Lucas reputation now, had he rested him and we lost then he would have been criticised aswell.

Enjoy the win and look forward to the draw for the semi tonight.

Lucas deserves special mention, for a couple of years he took the brunt of any bad fortune we had, ex players were venomously criticising him and the fans jeering him, it must have been hard for him and his family at their age at the time moving to a new country and adapting. What great character he has shown, these are the kind of players we want, he carried on working hard to improve never resting on his laurels or trying to leave after the criticism he got. It must have been hard playing in the shadow of Alonso and Masch at the peak of their powers.

This shows we need to support players who may be underperforming, they all have a role to pay now and in the future and especially the younger ones we recruited are here for the long term and will only improve.

We have a squad who will fight for the club, I can't see any mercenaries in our ranks right now just a squad detemrined to fight for this club.

On the rumours page someoe thinks signing Arshavin would be good, I saw him at the Emirates v Liverpool, he wasn;t bothered, hardly moved the entire game, Arsenal may have well has played with 10 men. Give me a player who will make 100% effort all the time rather than someone who only feels like turning it on now and again.

This is why Henderson, Carroll will always get my full support.

Joehoover

And be thankful we don't have Poulsen to call on if Lucas is out.

I'm the original poster. I should clarify that I did slate Roy Hodgson! anyways, I love kenny but lucas did take a knock in the man city game so surely it was not worth the risk. Yes, a trophy would be nice but I think the priority should be a champions league spot....
p.s. spearing/coady cannot do the same job that lucas does at the moment, maybe in the future

Anyone a little worried about out lack of defensive midfield cover if Lucus is out for a lengthy period of time? Lets see what we have....

Adam: Great passing range and vision but cant really tackle or track back fast enough, will give way too many fouls outside the box (or inside for that matter).

Spearing: Great heart and runs all over the place but not really what i would call dominating in mid field, plus he doesnt really have a header to his game, Lucus gets alot of headers to cut out the danger.

Gerrard, unknown when he will be back but would be wasted in the defensive midfield position.

Henderson: again, not really a defensive midfielder, good passer and great going forward more of a Gerrard role.

I am sure Kenny is aware of that as he always places Lucus in the team sheet, hardly ever rested as there is no proper cover for his position.

Would Arelio be a good option? he is a defender after all...good on the ball, not a bad header and can bring the ball out of the midfield. Only problem is...10 minutes through the game he'll be subbed for falling on the turf!

So who would you choose as a central defensive midfielder if Lucus is out for a few games?

DocSam

Jay Spearing can play there. Give this lad some credit because he won't let us down. Henderson can go central too if needed, with Charlie Adam. Downing or Maxi on left, Bellamy on right. We'll be alright. Don't panic mate.
The Real KB

I wouldn't play aurelio there doc , rafa tried it and he was well out of his comfort zone

Rewflo

Why not try Dan Agger as a defensive midfielder, just in front of Skrtel and either Carragher or Coates Spearing is a good alternative but not quite as accomplished at defending as Agger.

Conor Coady!

RedSG

Or we can always not play with a holding midfeilder??

jayblair89

Against smaller teams I'd like to see us play Henderson and Adam. We don't need a defensive mid every game, and when we're at home especially we should be taking the game to the opposition. If we play a big team I'd trust Spearing to do his job

30 Nov 2011 03:05:06
This team is so close right now to be really, really good. If you look at the team as a whole:

GK: Reina is one of the very best in the world, no issues here.

CB: Agger and Skrtl should be the starting duo here, I think there is enough proof of that. Throw in a young guys like Coates and the veteran Carragher for depth and I think we are solid here.

FB: Enrique and JOhnson are an excellent pair, plus Kelly is a starting caliber player. Excellent here.

CM: Adam and Lucas are forming a great partnership. Henderson can obviously slide into a spot here when needed and Gerrard can as well. Plus Spearing started here for a good spell last year and the team performed well.

Up front we have Suarez who is world class, but other than him Im afraid we have more workmanline solid but unspectacular players. We can choose from Downing, Kuyt, Maxi, Bellamy, Carroll, Henderson, Gerrard but with the exception of Gerrard (who is always hurt and getting older) we have no other stars here. We need someone else in addition to Suarez who keeps other managers awake at night worrying. I think if we can get one world class player up front (easier said than done), we will be in great shape.

I agree except for putting Bellamy in that bracket. If we bought one these world class players that youre on about for 30 million and he performed as good as Bellamy has been for us you wouldnt be complaining.

30 Nov 2011 01:52:00
André Schürrle, seen him play a few times & i really hope we move for him as he's an excellent prospect.
Wouldn't cost more than £20m surely?! Need a net finder badly to get top 4!

30 Nov 2011 01:49:54
I say Maxi and Bellamy should be in the starting XI in the EPL games. What do you all think?

HK

Henderson as well for me, the lads forward passing is superb.

He should play for Lucas if he is unfit in the next game, give Bellamy the spot on the right.

RenegadeRed

I will agree with you, but only for the principle of rotation - claiming that they are sure starters also is not right.

Drigan

Bellamy anyways, Maxi's form is hit and miss ild rather downing, enrique and downing are forming a great partnership on the left, wud like to see johnson and kelly on the right.
Red&Bred

Yea I agree. We should be allowed all thirteen players ;-)

Torres must now realise that the reason for his greatness at Liverpool was mainly down to the incredible relationship that he had with Stevie G. Abromovic must be kicking himself not to realise that. The Chelsea players simply don't pass to him, and by the way, neither did Athletico Madrid when he was there. Nando must be hating his adviser's advice to leave for a "big club" and more money

The fans were super, they made a huge difference

They can have stevie g now aswell if the want to give us another 50 million.

Stevie g post...find another club.

Yeah, chelsea are more suited to your type of supporter ( to the guy who wants to sell gerrard)

Just watched the game shown in full delayed by a few hours here in Canada. I hate it when that happens, have to avoid any sports channels, not read any texts and stay off internet just to enjoy the game without knowing the score.

My observations, Lucas at the moment is PRICELESS, he played a pass 40 plus yards into space on right wing for Henderson just after the 2nd goal, it reminded my of Xavi Alonso. I remember not so long ago reading posts on here from people saying Lucas couldn't play a forward pass, it was always sideways and backwards. Well eat your words now, the boy has to be the first name on the teamsheet for me. Protects back 4, bosses the midfield and now joining the attack aswell. TOPMAN!

Coates, scared the hell out of me in the first few minutes with that slide in the box when Luis went down. Lesser refs have fallen for that, luckily Mr Dowd was spot on. For the other 93 minutes of the match Coates was flawless, very very impressed.

Was beautiful seeing Martin Kelly's face on scoring his 1st goal for the 1st team. Lots of players kiss the badges of clubs but you knew what it meant to him and must admit it made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.

Maxi, and Bellers were great, covered a lot of ground. All those short passes in congested areas look to frustrate the Chelski boys hugely. I am sure Bellamy appreciated the 'One Gary Speed' song. All those of you who went to the game please take a bow, a very gracious gesture. It would have been nice if the Chelsea fans had joined in, but then again there are Chelsea.

Now i have read a lot of comments about Andy Carroll and i don't agree with a lot of them. He hit a terrible penalty there is no denying that, yet he had the bottle to take it. However, he covered a lot of ground, he was full on sprinting for one ball and it shocked me he could actually move that fast as he always looks laboured when running. He held up the ball for the players breaking out of midfield a lot tonight therefore i don't feel he deserves the stick he is being given. The guy is having an awful run of luck, in time that will change and i am certain he will start banging them away.

The rest of the team, Enrique usual solid game although some of his crosses left a lot to be desired.

Henderson, i think he is coming on in leaps and bounds, seems to be gaining in confidence with every game. Should have had a shot from edge of the box on the occasion he tried to play someone else in.

Spearing, solid game, covered a lot of ground seems to have a good understanding with Lucas.

Carra, bossed the back line and will no doubt be guiding Coates the whole way.

Pepe hardly tested but very very lucky that Anelka didn't make more of the chance when he nutmegged the keeper on the edge of the box. Those charges out the box scare the life out of me, he is getting away with it at the moment, but pretty soon i see him misjudging it a getting a red card.

Great 9 days though, beat Chelski twice in their own back yard and were desperately unlucky not to beat Citeh.

GET OFF OUR PLAYERS BACK AND SUPPORT THE TEAM!!

ChrisE

Good post mate, where did you watch it? I've managed to find a replay tomorrow afternoon on sportsnet West so can't wait to watch it properly. Saw the goals although missed Lucas' injury and the Gary Speed tribute. Great win for us today!

Cuchulainn's Hounds

Great post. though i disagree with pepe observations. you have to give him, as one of the best in the world, the benefit of the doubt. he did what he had to do in those situations. most keepers cant read the game half as good as him and wouldnt even get near to intercepting the ball like that. i think we should be grateful he has that ability and the courage to do it. until he tries it and makes a mistake we should not worry or criticise.
Dara D

Cuchulainn's Hounds- watched on Setanta on Rogers TV, channel 429 for me. I am in Southern Ontario so may be located on a different channel for you. I love the TV coverage over here, seen all but 1 of the league games shown live so far this season.

Dara D, i was picking fault with Pepe so much as showing concern about opposition players. You saw Daivid Luiz dive for a penalty last night when Coates dived in. How long before managers are telling players if Reina charges out for the ball take a dive hoping he gets a red? Pepe save from the Torres head last night was top draw.

ChrisE

I think pepe is playing really well in the last few games. His decision making has been razor sharp. True its often edge of the seat stuff, but thats just a reflection on how good he is. He gets to the ball because he has the ability to do so.

neekcub

Typo there..i meant 'i wasn't picking fault'

ChrisE

I'm over in Calgary mate and had Setanta Ireland (Telus 673) up until about a month ago but Sportsnet West is now covering on that channel & no longer Setanta. Got it recording today though so will finally get a chance to see it. Cheers mate!

i feel kenny was picking the wrong teams at the start of the season. even against city last week, city game werent that bad but lack of subtitutions at the right time let us down when we could of won, i hope kenny realises who are best players are and play them in a well balanced team, downing adam lucas henderson kuyt isnt a well balanced midfeild with downing not performing kuyt lucas and adam who are not the fastest.atleast henderson has some pace but he wasnt great that day.... with suarez up on his own who did well but support werent there much. bellamy and maxi were what were missing earlier in the season, it seemed like maxi fallen out with kenny coz he didnt even make the bench sometimes and he just didnt use bellamy at all, these guys are getting on so its obvious we need an attacking mid fielder in jan, maybe a striker. it was why i didnt want aqualani going, then miereles was sold, i thought we screwed our selves but maxi, bellamy make up 4 it, just. off to bo bo's zzz ;] fulham be AFRAID, CONFIENCE HIGH, away form great, hope kenny picks right team, he did toady minus carroll but i understand, he'll get better, ZZZzzzz......

30 Nov 2011 00:56:30
The last few games emphasised to me that pepe is the best goalkeeper in the world...does things that other keepers can't do and sometimes acts as an extra cb, maybe its me being biased what do you lot think, also lucas = Amazing, Coates = Amazing can see a great future for him with us, henderson was very good I thought aswell...to be honest the whole team was fantastic, andy could improve but I gt faith in him...needs to strengthen up and be more composured on the ball...but the last few games just shows our squad depth is brilliant and I hope we have a bright future...absolutely delighted with today's game. Got a feelin we'll get Man Utd nxt round and also eds is the semi final 2 legs.

Yep two legs

I'm really busy at uni so couldn't watch tonight's game, but what a great result, and a decent performance all round by the sound of it. Shame to hear of Lucas getting injured, but though he is important in big games I'll be really interested to see the team without him against weaker opposition. Obviously Spearing is a ready-made replacement, and I'd love to see him play more. Also though I think a midfield two of Henderson and Adam would be really interesting, as we don't need an all-out defensive mid in every match. Well that's my twopence. Well done all the lads tonight, particularly Bellamy and Martin Kelly, great for him to get his first goal

Liverpool are fast becoming a very efficient machine, with right tactics to sweep teams aside, also look how much better we do when the crown are in full voice, the city match was the best atmosphere I've been to for a while, and all you could here at Stamford bridge was the red section. I'm starting to look forward to matches again.

Chelsea fans just do not sing at all. It is quieter than the emirates in there.

I'm really pleased with the team after the last 3 results. When I looked at the fixtures, I never imagined we would beat Chelsea twice at Stamford Bridge. Its a shame we couldn't beat Citeh on Sunday but I thought we were the best team after 90 mins. I hope we continue to improve now & get some more victories against the "easier" teams in the coming weeks.

By the way, does anyone out there think we won't draw Man City in the next round?

Hope Lucas makes a speedy recovery, i'm so pleased he's turned things around. Maybe in a season or two we'll be saying the same about Andy Carroll

ed? 1) do you think torres regret leaving liverpool.
chelsea does not look like they will win an trophies this season.

2) from they way i look at it i dont see arsenal and chelsea in the top 4 this season
my picks are liverpool, man u, man city and spurs.

3) i would love to see maxi starting at right wing, and also craig starting along side suarez.

here is my team
reina
johnson carragher agger enrique
maxi gerrard adam downing
bellamy suarez

atleast i can see load of speed and skill on the wing and up front. maxi and bellamy is playing great when ever they start and given a chance. i would like to see him stay.

one player i would love to see in lfc jersey is adam johnson and daniel sturridge

trini red {Ed001's Note - I am sure he must have a bit of regret right now.}

No starting place for Lucas? Gerrard behind the main striker unlocking defences for me . Still a great player but more energy needed in middle. Henderson looks like he has got a good engine and is starting to show promise.

oh for a young Bellamy

Age doesn't affect all players the same and Bellamy is proving to be an inspired signing. That's something I noticed in the first Chelsea game- what it meant to players like Adam and Bellamy; to be given a chance to play for our club in a game like that. It seemed to just pass by some of the Chelsea players. Give me a bit of passion over big name 'employees' anyday.
It was very emotional to see Bellamy in tears before the game, too. And then to play like that. Well done, Craig; I'll settle for 2 seasons of that.

When I was working in the North East, I got a ticket to see Newcastle v Barcelona in the CL. This would be, ohh, 2003. Although Newcastle got beat on the night, Bellamy looked the best and quickest player on the pitch.

couple of beers into a school night (and feeling a bit naughty) but its just occurred to me that both teams who had to play tonight's fixture 48hours after a difficult weekend premier - both away teams won. Against proper difficult opposition as well - arguably.

Bet we get city and scum get Cardiff - not to be negative but just the way it goes. And obviously we don't know if scum will get through (fingers crossed hey)

However, to get to the semis we beat Brighton away, Stoke away and now chelskips away. Bring on whoever i say...

Class moment - fans singing "only one Gary Speed" when bellars was substituted. Very moving moment - Bellars definitely MOTM for me - great way to express himself on what must have been a difficult night. Great to have him back....
