I personally wouldn't want us to go out and buy a shed load of players in the summer a couple of players ED 2 has mentioned stand out for me to make a big difference. Kovacic and Baez and a keeper, sell a few of the loan players and I don't think we've got too bad of a squad.

Believable3 Unbelievable3

31 Mar 2015 06:10:02
You think Baez would make a difference? Have you seen him play?. There will be Origi coming in the summer too and I rather think we could do with someone a little more experienced than Baez.

Agree4 Disagree0

31 Mar 2015 06:32:30
I wouldn't be overly fussed if the squad didn't change much.

I think a lot of Rodgers signings would do well under different managers. Lovren, Sahko, Markovic, Lallana have all played well for other clubs and their national team, so whether it's the players just not being able to play with each other or whether it's the tactics, who knows, but most if not all of our current squad have a decent amount of ability.

Obvious departures aside, I wouldn't complain if we had only minor changes in the summer.

Agree1 Disagree0

31 Mar 2015 07:58:09
Squad doesn't need any changes - first XI needs a striker to join Sturridge and probably a CDM

Agree2 Disagree0

31 Mar 2015 09:50:42
You need to make changes to your squad every season. Chelsea will more than likely be champions and i would guess they will add at least 2 new players to their squad. I agree with AG, we certainly need a quality forward when and if we get rid of some of the under performing ones we have. Wholesale changes are not required.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Mar 2015 21:11:18
Don't see anything wrong with Raheem holding off until the summer to decide about his contract.

While he's not been at his electric best this season he has been asked to play numerous positions, is only 20 and has still been our best striker this season even though he is not a striker.

He will want to see, as one of the best players of his age around, that the club are either in the Champs lge or have better signings lined up than last year's shambles when Suarez left to be replaced by Balotelli & Lambert, with Borini remaining.

I can see where he is coming from and hopefully this will result in better players being recruited and Raheem & Jordan signing on again.

Ball very much in the clubs court.

Let's hope the boys clearly not in the plans are moved on and quality not quantity is brought in.

Believable3 Unbelievable2

30 Mar 2015 21:58:07
He wouldn't join a team with out CL probably thinks why stay with one

Agree1 Disagree0

30 Mar 2015 22:39:54
Well he is not exactly 28 years old or even 25 years old who wants to make sure he doesn't finish his career without trophies or without playing CL (he played already this season by the way). He wants to see if we are in the CL? Well this is our role. He is not there to watch.His role is to bring us there not to wait and see if we get there. He is paid a lot of money to do exactly that.

And while he was far from being our worst player, there were too many games when he didn't show up. Which is ok if he is young and inexperienced and you cannot expect him yet to perform every game, but if this is the case I also cannot accept him behaving contract wise like RVP at his late 20s in Arsenal moving to ManU in order to make sure he doesn't end without trophies.

Re bringing quality players in the summer - it is hard to know in the summer the quality of players and how they will suit the team. 95 percent of peopel here thought at the end of the summer we had a fantastic transfer window. People have short memory, but people here talked about Ian Ayre as the greatest bargain catcher of all times. And easy to say now a lot of the buys were poor but it is not as if the club didn't try to strengthen the squad and spend a lot of money on it.

In any case Sterling is not our transfer committe - and he should rather focus on the (many) things that he still has to improve on his game. Because full of potential as he is he stil has a lot of work to do and in my view he will see a lot of bench if he moves to one of the other big clubs (partly because they have a lot more competition for his role).

Final word - we don't have money to bring huge names. Our only hope to bring A Benzema is if we sell him. I would be happy for him to stay but I don't think the club should band over becuase of his demands. He is not Luis Suzrez. At some point someone has to tell him enough is enough. I don't think all the rumurs are his fault, and amybe even what you sugest here as his motives are not his real ones and fair play to him for saying he want to pospone it for the summer but comes the summer, if I am the club I would give him 2-3 weeks to say yes or no and if no say goodbye adn try to get the most for him preferably from non PL team.

Agree3 Disagree1

31 Mar 2015 06:59:19
Probably looking at the end to Gerrards career and thinking he should have went to Chelsea hahaha

But on a more serious note if I was 20 i'd sign up 5 years be 25 worth a lot more money and a better player (you'd imagine ) then reasses the situation

Then again who says he won't let the next contract run down aswell

So many ways to look at this but only Sterling knows what he wants

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Mar 2015 07:44:39
I agree 100% fanoip that we had a good long term transfer window but a terrible one in the striking department which we all commented on at the time left us very weak and too reliant on a striker who cannot stay fit.

Sterling has a long way to go in terms of his development but if we seriously want to get back to the top we must retain players like this and show him we are ambitious as other clubs will.

If he extends his contract I will be just as happy that the club have evidenced this to him as him staying and if they can't then we will see where his career goes north or south, if I was a betting nan I would say north with medals galore!

Why i'd rather keep Rogers at least there's a glimmer a hope he may get us back to playing like last season

But under rafa there be no hope in playing good football again at least if not Rogers someone who wants a DOF and has a attacking style with a high press as the blue print

Agree7 Disagree5

30 Mar 2015 22:01:43
Under Rodgers we cant defend, under Rafa we could. I cannot see Rodgers sorting that but at least Rafa could work on attack. To be fair to Rafa he did want fast wingers and strikers so he could play fast attacking football.

Could make for an interesting poll of the day that eds.
Who would you rather have in charge next season if it was out of Rodgers and Rafa?

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Mar 2015 08:55:32
We've got to stop being sentimental as fans, otherwise we will turn into Newcastle. Rafa had his time, he brought back some glory days yet he also played some very dull football and was a manipulator of the press to his own advantage not the club's.

We have moved on, Rodgers now has us playing some good attacking football despite the first half of the season where he returned to his version of tika-taka. Let him finish out the season and then let's evaluate how it has gone and what needs to be changed. You never know, Citeh might come in for him and we can earn a huge amount of compo!

Agree2 Disagree0

31 Mar 2015 09:51:42
I will support any manager and player the club bring in. But as a fan I am entitled to bring constructive criticism. I do not believe Rodgers is the man to take us forward. He has had a good run in 2015 but his start to the season was nothing less than shocking. He brought to many average players in during his reign and I still for the life of me cannot see why he is so arrogant that he would not work under a DOF.
His style of play had to change mid way through the season and I think this was via pressure from the owners/staff/media and fans. He cannot speak to the press without making himself look an idiot as he thinks he can do a "Jose" in front of the cameras.
Rafa was not given a fair chance before, we at the time did not know that Gillet and Hicks were not giving him money and choosing players so hoe can Rafa be blamed? You can't blame him for his out bursts knowing now how the pressure working under these numpties must have been. Rafa at least brought some success with champs lge and cup runs and 2nd place. Rafa could attract players, Rodgers cannot. So for me I would thank Mr Rodgers for his time and efforts, say farewell and ask Rafa to come back. People forget that Rafa was asked to steer the Chelsea ship while they waited for Jose so he couldn't be that bad.

Agree1 Disagree4

{Ed001's Note - Rafa chose all the players signed in his reign, none were chosen by the owners, who never got involved in that at all.}

31 Mar 2015 12:25:04
Rafa at Man City would be a force to be reconed with. If he went there, they would win the CL in the next three years. He'd flop at us though, our squad isn't right for him and we can't afford to make wholesale changes

Agree1 Disagree0

31 Mar 2015 15:53:46
Ed001, Rafa wanted cash and the owners(H&G) would not budge and give him and money for players he wanted. They also broke promises to players(Torres) so of course they want to leave and made Rafa into a scape goat for their antics in trying to run a football club.
In my opinion Rafa going to Man city would be bad, he would make them into being a major force in Europe and really challenge Chelsea. With good owners and support I don't see many better in the game then Rafa. He not only wanted the best team but he was also good and getting involved with local issues. To me Rodgers has tried and not succeeded and managed to take us any further so time to change come the end of the season.

Agree1 Disagree2

{Ed001's Note - oh for heaven's sake Rafa spent pot loads of money and nearly bankrupt the club with his reckless spending.}

31 Mar 2015 16:55:52
Ed002, Would Rafa be willing to work under a DoF if Rodgers refuses? Has Rafa been speaking with the team? Has the club identified some DoF targets? Have they spoken to people?

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed002's Note - I have explained before that you shouldn't all be so obsessed with this Director of Football concept.}

31 Mar 2015 17:06:24
He also earned millions of pounds with his constant champions league exploits.

Agree0 Disagree1

31 Mar 2015 23:07:28
Ed001 Rafa net spend in 6 years was £78 million but he won us a champs lge and got us to another final so to me he nearly balanced the spending you mention. To me Rafa was far more financially astute than Rodgers and Rafa could set the team up technically for a game. Rodgers goes with plan A, if that does not work he then reverts to plan A then on to plan A and so on and so on.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - you have no understanding of finances. His net spend was well over 200m due to ridiculously high turnover of players and the requirement to pay up their contract each time one left. He never even came close to balancing the spending and it is ignorant of any kind of knowledge of the finances of the club to even suggest otherwise.

Why do people persist with this utter lie that Rafa's spending wasn't so bad? Rafa nearly bankrupt Valencia, then he came here and nearly bankrupt us. Both times his spending put the club into severe financial difficulties requiring years of belt tightening to get through it.}

31 Mar 2015 23:20:04
And if you take into account the 50million for Torres which isn't accounted into Rafa"s time his net spend would be less than 30million over 6 years without taking into account champs lge and FA cup winning money.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - no it would not. Please just give up, you don't have a clue what you are talking about at all.}

heard from a v reliable source who always seems to be right, that we offered sterling a deal worth up to 180k per week but he is refusing not because of the money but because he doesn't want to play wing bacl long term as he wants to be the main man up front

Believable0 Unbelievable14

30 Mar 2015 20:02:27
No that's inaccurate. We've offered Sterling a lucrative deal somewhere in the region of £7.45 an hour including travel expenses. Bonuses for each header he wins can also take his wages upto almost the same as that guy outside Anfield who sells match day scarfs. He'll also be included in the raffle to win a free pair of signed Phil Couthinho boots.

Hi ed01 hope all is well.
Quick one on young raheems contract so sorry if it obvious.
Iv been relatively relaxed on the ongoing negotiations or lack thereof with raheem because I was under the impression his contract was up in the summer of 2017, however it's been mentioned a few times on various media including talk sport who I consider a grade above the usual media rubbish that his contract is up in 2016 which would be a bit more concerning.
Care to shed any light of possible?
Many thanks and as usual great work.

{Ed002's Note - 2017.}

30 Mar 2015 20:50:00
Is 2017, but he falls into Bosman territory before then and is only worth the compensation for being under 24 I believe, but the encyclopaedic Ed002 would know exactly.

But there are other implications. The longer he takes to sign, the longer others will as well because they will all rate their wage claim against what Sterling gets. For example, Henderson would expect, as Captain, to be paid somewhere around what Sterling gets if not slightly more in recognition of the armband.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - He would be allowed to talk to non-EPL clubs from the January of 2017. I cannot see it will get to that.}

Saw the charity match and then some instagram pics from Gerrard, Suarez and Torres. I am really going to miss Gerrard. a true legend.

We had some really great players once. Pity they could never be there at the same time and at their height. Also nice to see Shelvey, Henry, Kelly, Alonso, Terry and Risse. Speaks a volume about who and what was GERRARD.

People here please lighten up. I know we all love our club but i think its better not to be overly critical. From our current crop who knows may be a next legend is being made. Keep faith YNWA

Woah. Just read the posts from the last few days. What the hell happened?

To all the people who hammered Ed002, okay perhaps he/she can be a little strong with words at times. However, all the Eds allow people to have an opinion as long as they can legitimately explain and justify it without just being derogatory. Questioning there integrity or dedication is just bang out of order though. Never bite the hand that feeds you.

We don't know what the Eds are cutting from certain posts. It could be anything.

Eds and posters alike, please can we just rise above it if people are being childish? I love this site and look forward to returning as a regular in the summer. I'd like there to be something to return to though.

I genuienly appreciate everyone on here. From the posters i tend to get on with such as (Reet/AG), to the posters i tend to disagree with (Davey/Waro), and of course all of the Eds. I get that tensions are high at this time of year but let's all just chill out and talk football. Don't be afraid to disagree, but do so respectfully and coherrently. Then you will receive the same level of respect from the Editors.

Had a great day at anfield yday. My 9yr old son was made up to see his first hero 'liverpools number 9!!!' The singing for alons, garcia, pepe, and suerez was fantastic, but I have to say, the one that got me the most was for torres! I like many i'm surecwondered what would happen, but when suarez ran out with torres for the second half and both songs were sung, one after the other, that question was answered. Fantastic to hear and see once again, so many memories brought back watching the players all back again, torres on facebook actually saying he's at peace now, says it all!!! Great to see them all 'home'.

What a fantastic occasion yesterday. I also think the timing for such an event was crucial. Yes we are probably still hurting from last Sunday but yesterday gave us a moment to reflect on why we do support our team and why we have invested into the Liverpool ethos and culture. I'm always proud to call myself a red .now we can take a deep breath and get ready to take the plunge for the rest of the season. Well done everyone

According to the mail sterling will not sign a contract extension even if an offer of 180k a week offer is made, looks like we r going to lose another good player this summer hope we find better players this summer.We have ballotelli, borini, Lambert all 3 could well be heading away in the summer if sterling goes also 4 New strikers needed that's too much for 1 window especially considering we have financial difficulties according to eds.

30 Mar 2015 12:04:12
Sterling will probably leave in the summer along with balo, Borini and lambert. But that does not mean we need 4 new strikers to join. Borini and Sterling have already been replaced by Ibe and Origi while Sinclair/Ojo could take Lambert's place in the squad. The only one that needs replacing is balotelli and i hope the club goes for a quality replacement than someone like Ings or Austin who are squad players at best.

30 Mar 2015 12:51:23
My concern is that we offered any player 180k. We simply can't afford that, let alone on a player that is being carried by the rest of the team. So I'll say the story is nonsense, however if true, I'm very worried who's running the club.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - it is not true mate.}

30 Mar 2015 13:07:33
Definitely time to make a shrewd sale of this very talented but seriously overhyped player.
I think given all the hype, he is likely to fetch a price that could be double his real value, in terms of what he contributes to a team- and certainly looking at his contribution to this season.
With ffp, shouldn't we be looking for shrewd financial deals like that, especially when we have other young players ready to step in that are just as good or maybe even better?

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - and then sell them as soon as they have a dip in form for the next young thing? You need to hold on to a talent to develop it fully or you never go anywhere as a club.}

30 Mar 2015 14:55:14
Agree Ed.
If Sterling goes then what does it say to other young players like Ibe, Sinclair etc.
Are we just a selling club now, or do we want to get to the top of the tree?
If we are serious about sustaining a period at the very top of our league then players like Raheem are essential in my opinion.
He is certainly not the finished article but I would like to see the finished article in a Liverpool shirt rather than another shirt.
I have yet to see a quote from Raheem so I will consider it all as paper talk until then.

Hopefully he will stay for a few more years. He is a very goog cdm who gives balance to the team, he is a great example of overcoming and work ethics, and he loves the club. Unfortunately he won't accept to continue to be treated like he has been; perhaps it will end with something similar to what happened with Agger, which will be a great mistake (again)
