Last season at home, you boys won 8 out of 19, pretty poor if you don't mind me saying.

This season, so far, you have won 8 out of 9.

Why the change in fortunes gents?

It's an interesting one mate. I think it was belief at the start of the season as we were poor towards the end of 11/12 at home under Kenny in the league as we'll. Getting used to Rodgers style could be seen as a factor as well, as shown as we we're much better at home in the 2nd half of last season.

I think we have all but eliminated these negative factors from playing at home, as sides are starting to fear coming to Anfield again, which hasn't been the case since 08/09, and we are playing well and on out day we can beat anybody, especially at home, and I think the players are finally starting to believe that again.

Agree0 Disagree0

Its down to no European football for the first season for me it affects the fans mentality when you don't feel like challengers. When we haven't looked like challengers Anfield feels different. The crowd has always played a big part in our success, (I won't mention Michael Thomas who my sons named after :) This season the mood is different in the stands and I think it affects the players on the field. Or it could be we are getting better all the time.

Agree0 Disagree0

Chiefscout, there's nothing wrong with mentioning Michael Thomas lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

DG as you may have noticed other poseters say. we've played all but one of the top 8 away. Still got them to come at home. Hopefully we can grab a few wins against them[including your boys :) ]
Last year defensively we weren't great either skrtel was quite frankly terrible and was replaced by a 35 year old, Agger was bullied. Jamie on MNF also mentioned there were sometimes cohesion issues with Enrique etc. Coutinho and Sturridge were also great buys that had a positive impact on us last year, or it could have been worse.

Agree0 Disagree0

Id say its the fact we hit the woodwork more than anyone else

Agree0 Disagree0

Thats a fair point Bobatron, thank you.

Hi Reds an Eds,

Happy New Year to All from NZ(new years eve here). Two things i'd like to mention. I'm pleased with how the team are going this season, and as stated by most, hopefully the second half of the season has more points for us than the first half has.

The second point is, I'm really interested in this tranfer window, without trying t hoo doo anthing, finishing top4 means BR has one eye on CL, he has two windows to inprove the squad for 4 comps and not all youth will step up at the same time. Interesting times ahead. I have said all along, I'm pleased with the direction BR and the club are going, and still feel the same, but with more confidence.
Again Happy New Year All.

Evening fellow redmen

I am travelling up from Plymouth tomorrow spending NYE in Liverpool and watching the mighty reds v hull. Any recommendations as to where to go for a few drinks tomorrow night to see out 2013?

Also would like to say that despite frustrating results/officiating in last 2 games, I am as happy a Liverpool fan as I have been in a long, long time. Really enjoying our attacking brand of football under BR, pose a real threat in every game we play!

Hope we can add 2/3 top quality players in january to push us on through til may. Our home form this season has been a joy to behold and with our key fixtures in the second half of the season predominantly being at home, we all have reason to be optimistic of finishing at last 4th!

Can't wait to sing YNWA on Wednesday and really get behind the boys. Last match I went to I put 5er on suarez hat trick and he came up trumps v WBA in october. Be doing the same his time round!

Happy new year to you all!

Try pink bar.

Pink to make the boys wink;-)

Agree0 Disagree0

Are you looking for a nice quiet pub, rough local, trendy bar, nightclub?

Agree0 Disagree0

Virtually anywhere in town it's like a holiday resort.
Concert Square and Matthew Street areas are very lively.
By the ground, The Arkles or The Alfred pub's are good on match days. Have good time it's the best city in the UK.
I'll be at the game myself hoping we get back to winning ways.:-)

BR needs to play Alberto for the hull game and allow Coutinho to play in the middle.

Suarez
Alberto, Coutinho, Sterling

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Would of really liked to see him coming in for Allen yesterday. I'm sure BR has his reasons, but I thought it would have been a great opportunity for him to show he can step it up.

Agree0 Disagree0

BR needed someone to play wide left and stay high up the pitch to bring Azpilicueta out wide to leave space in between for Suarez and Sterling, it almost worked. I was surprised he never switched to a 3-5-2.

Evening Gents,

Somebody posted this on the Arsenal page, so i'm going to ask you boys.

In your opinion

1) best Liverpool highlight of 2013.

2) Worst Liverpool moment of 2013.

3) Best player/most improved player of 2013
(sorry, but you cannot include Suarez lol)

Just for fun guys, to end the year on a happy note

Best Liverpool 2013. each and every moment We played.
Worst : Nothing.

Agree0 Disagree0

Best highlight: Spurs 5-0 Always nice to beat that lot.

Worst moment: Probably seeing about 8 players hobbling after the chelsea game when we already have a thin squad.

Most improved player of the year. Henderson. Been completely different to the player of the last two seasons.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sterling or skrtel most improved best moment top 4 xmass worse 5th 5days later haha

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Dec 2013 21:50:53
1) For me the 5-0 defeat of Spurs was a high point.

2) Got to be either Suarez-bite-gate or the ensuing drawn out summer fiasco.

3) I would say it easily has to Jordan Henderson. His work over the last year is only finally being recognised by those outside the Liverpool fan base and for good reason.

Cheers Dagenham Gunner, got a lot of time for you by the way.

Agree0 Disagree0

Henderson slipped my mind sorry

Agree0 Disagree0

Thank you Jolly Red, pleasure mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

1. Best moment was the reception that John Arne Riise got at Fulham, end of last season. Brilliant, blew him away.
2. All the over-reaction over Suarez. Did my head in.
3. Sturridge.

Agree0 Disagree0

Best beating spurs 5-0 or barcodes 6-0. Or sturridges equaliser against bitters because I f**kin detest them.Worst losing to Oldham, Hendo defo most improved

Agree0 Disagree0

1. Best Highlight: Beating Spurs away 5-0 was great. Spurs have been somewhat of a boggy team for us and their fans were getting a little too cocky (the word).

2. Personally, 2-1 lost to Chelsea yesterday. That defeat was really difficult to take.

3. Jordan Henderson or Raheem Sterling.

Agree0 Disagree0

1) The Suarez hat-trick of hat-tricks against Norwich.

2) Losing to the gunners, our title rivals ha.

3) I'd say Henderson even if we were allowed to say Suarez.

What about you Dagenham, what would your Arsenal and Liverpool list be. I reckon I could guess what your Liverpool 1 would be (smashing the Spuds 5-0?).

Agree0 Disagree0

1. Sofia Suarez deciding Liverpool is a great place to live even though she hates the weather/food.
2. The day it was mathematically impossibe to get top 4.
3. Sturridge/Henderson if Suarez isn't involved.

Agree0 Disagree0

Best 'moment' was the week before Xmas - the first half v Spurs and the first half v Cardiff, with Luis' new contract sandwiched in between. Mostly for the type of football we played and the goals we scored. Culminated in Malky Mackay milking the applause at Anfield. Not a Liverpool man at all, but he was genuinely touched and took time out to call Reds fans a class act. That meant more than the fact that we had just gone top!

Worst moment was Brendan criticising the ref after the City game. Why lower yourself to their level when your team is just starting to win some plaudits for your style and your whole football concept? And why give the FA a chance to close ranks and punish us with Webb's performance in the very next game? Now Mourinho is taking over Fergie's mantle in undermining Suarez and turning him back into the old panto villain. (I'll just wager he'll not get another decision for the next 2/3 months now!). Brendan should have risen above it and moved on. As I say, if he can continue to prove we're a class act off the field, we'll soon be THE class act on it again too.

Most improved could be Flanagan, Sterling, Allen or Henderson for sure. But rather than pick one out, I'd say our biggest improvement has been the team spirit and therefore our confidence. Epitomised for me in the big 'pile-on' to celebrate Flanno's goal at White Heart Lane.

In the last month or so there has been a feel good factor in being a Red and I can't wait for the rest of the season. Nobody will be looking forward to coming to Anfield and being tucked in the chasing pack might just suit us better than having the pressure and expectation that goes with being on top.

Great question Dags, hope your lot are on that roller coaster with us for the next few months.

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks Gents,

TCotton,
Mine is,

1) pipping Spurs to 4th spot last season.

2) losing any game.

3) Aaron Ramsey, huge improvement on last seasons performances.

And yes, you boys giving the Spuds a 5-0 thrashing made my year lol

Agree0 Disagree0

Worst moment: Carraghers back pass at Anfield vs Zenit. His last outing in Europe and that's how he'd remember it. I also stood watching it thinking we could actually get back into the game, and we came so close, it was horrible to have those european dreams crushed after a great fightback

Best moment: The Enrique goal vs Swansea where we saw 4/5 shorts quick passes that ripped the defense apart. It was here that I think I first realised Brendan's dream is taking shape.

3. Most improved player, Undoubtedly Hendo. I got sick the death of defending him on the rumours page, So glad BR stuck with him.
(special mention to Jonjo as well who came on Leaps and bounds and is still improving under laudrup)

Arsenal away
Spurs away
Everton away
Newcastle away
Man city away
Chelsea away

All done with over half a season to play!

It's plain sailing for here on in isn't it?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Quite right Rushy,
Our last 6 games 12 points

Arsenal 11 points
Man City 16 points
Chelsea 13 points
Everton 10 points
Man Utd 12 points
Tottenham 12 points.

Even with 2 defeats by arguably the best 2 teams in the prem we haven't done that bad overall. teams will go ahead and be pegged back for the rest of the season, we are only 6 points from the top. In my opinion top 4 is very attainable.

The Glen Johnson criticism is getting really old. Now matter how often we say how bad he is, BR is not going to read this. At this time he is the only fit senior right back so he has to play, we already know that Kelly is going to be eased in and perhaps towards the end of the season he will establish himself, but until then Johnson's place is guaranteed so can we please find new things to talk about other than Glen Johnson. I think it is already obvious that he will be gone by the Summer, that is why we were tying to get Montoya who is a right back and not a left back. Why is it obvious that he will leave? Hopefully the rest of you can spot the trend. Joe Cole, Downing and Reina left, why? Because their contract needed a renewing and we have no desire to renew it, why? Because they were not playing well enough to justify their 80k wages and because they were replaceable. This applies to Johnson also as his contract needs renewing. At this time I assure you we are working to find and secure a right back for the summer. Brendan has already in summer said that it will take 2 or 3 more windows to get the squad where he wants it, that includes in-comings and out-goings. By the start of next Summer we will have "2 players for every position with young players backing that up". He and the recruitment are thinking about the summer right now as BR is very confident of securing CL football because he knows we now have a size-able run of very winnable fixtures. I know he says one game at a time but his mind will certainly be on the next chunk of games.

I would also like to say about FSG, I often see people here moaning about their lack of money and investment which is ridiculous. They have a very large amount of money and they willing to invest it as long as they are assured that their investments are worthwhile. As we all know there is a recruitment committee at this time, if this committee proposes a player to FSG they would happily give the money as BR has said he feels very fortunate of his support from the owners.

Hopefully this post has not come across as negative because I am a very positive, passionate, and enthusiastic red and I am very confident that we will secure a place in the top 4. Probably even the top 3.

Glen Johnson will never be dropped.
1. he is an England International. and this is a world cup year
2. If dropped Kyle walker would take his place in National team
3. heard he has a clause in his contract, of his playing time
4. he is brilliant in training.
5. BR doesn't Read our post.

Agree0 Disagree0

In the summer he needs to be replaced along with skrtel his set pieces annoy the heck out of me and his defending while facing an oncoming opponent is non-existent as he just backs off and hopes the shot isn't good.

Agree0 Disagree0

At what point do you guys think Glen Johnson will improve by us picking on him and slagging him off every week?!

We know his quality and we know he's England's no 1 when he's on form. What he needs now is our support - do you recognise that word - forms part of the word supporter, funnily enough!

His confidence is low and he needs reminded that he's one of ours. Not singled out and made to walk alone! Behave lads!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - he is far from low in confidence, that is something he has never had a problem with.}

Harry, Glenn will be dropped if he continues to play **** and BR feels he has better options. 1, 2, 3 and 4 is nonsense. He is sulking because he has been offered a new contract for less money than his current contract, he has got totally the wrong attitude for a professional footballer. he's supposed to be one of the leaders in the team. Two years ago he was arguably the best RB in the prem, i'd happily sell for a decent price. i'd take a tenner and be made up he's off the wage bill.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ok ill give you No1 but that Hodgsons fault not mine.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Dec 2013 01:02:10
Here's a more practical reason why Jonno won't be dropped:

We don't have anyone to drop him for.

BR doesn't trust Kelly's fitness. Flanagan is injured, and even if he wasn't, he's needed at left back because Enrique is injured and Cissokho's worse than Jonno. Toure's a centre half. And McLaughlin is too young.

I can only see Jonno's place being seriously threatened if Enrique and Flanagan are both fit and in form. And to be perfectly honest, BR doesn't seem to rate Enrique anyway.

Agree0 Disagree0

Just wanna say, we have come leaps and bounds this year.

Also not seen so much positivity on this site after back to back defeats in like ever.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Is right.

The last two results have been a kick in the plums though, but what else can we expect?

I still think we'll go on a run and maybe the league position is a blessing in disguise as all this title talk has been a little premature.

Top four deffo.

Agree0 Disagree0

My prediction is that our home form will dip and away form will pick up. Certainly not claiming any genius here, simply that we have played many of the top 8 away in the first half of the season and many of the bottom half at home. Hopefully we can keep up the home form and improve the away however it will be tough.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Dec 2013 19:19:42
Only away games LFC have against teams currently in top 10: Man United and Southampton. Played the rest away already.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

A big plus that a lot of experts seem to have missed

Agree0 Disagree0

I just look it in another way. We are going to have a lot of away games against teams fighting for staying in premier league. I am just afraid there might be more surprises like Hull city

Agree0 Disagree0

Great point. We must go on a run now

Agree0 Disagree0

I certainly think we can get more points in the 2nd half of the season!

Agree0 Disagree0

Yup a nice run, Maximum points in January is a must.

Agree0 Disagree0

I can see both LFC and EFC in top 5 minimum, depending on injuries and cup run. European football will be a major factor for premier league games as the season progresses.

Agree0 Disagree0

I read in an article about that story and it says "8 is a lucky number in malaysia" only thing that hurt me in that statement was that it says malaysia instead of chinese. 8 is a lucky number as the chinese people believe, certainly nothing to do with malaysia. they are one of the biggest population in malaysia (the chinese people) but certainly don't represent a malaysian thing this 8 number.

Ivan Ractic would prove the best signing of LFC in 3 yeras. The lad would walk straight into our team. he is what Suarez and co are missing.
With Mohammed salah and Ractic, we would be untouchable.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I agree with the Rakitic opinion Harry. Don't think it will happen though as anything over £10 mill and FSG go into cold sweats.

Agree0 Disagree0

This has to be the most ridiculous thing you've said on here Ozone, and that's saying something. Pfft some people.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sahko, Sturridge, Suarez, Carroll, Hendo, Downing. More nonsense Ozone.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Dec 2013 19:51:58
If he is there to take. we would bid him. I wouldn't mind selling Allen and replacing him with Ractic and Medal. two brilliant players would do exceptional in our midfield.

Agree0 Disagree0

I usually enjoy your posts Ozone, or most of them.
But you've been ultra harsh on the team this past week.
Just edged out in both games, and a little unlucky too.
Theyve been a joy to watch mate. I thought you'd see that, especially the midfield. Both opponents are CL contenders don't forget.
I have some sympathy with your point about the bench though.

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't know that I'd rate Salah much beyond Sterling to be honest. Seems a bit like swapping a 19 year old prospect we have for a 21 year old prospect we don't. Not seen much of Rakitic, but from what I have seen I don't see how he would make us unstoppable. If I had my druthers I might prefer one more established player at the price those two would cost, personally.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Dec 2013 20:41:26
Xabi alonoso is the only established player who would come to us.
pastore. hamsik. Mata. or anyone wouldn't come to us in the Jan window.
Trust me.Ivan Ractic is an excellent player. Infact brilliant.

Agree0 Disagree0

RDL, I rather think signing Salah means the end of Moses at LFC.

Unlike others, I am not sure Rakitic would be a good buy.

Harry, you just couldn't stop slagging off Allen could you, you wool!

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with RDL. Sterling will become a better player than Salah. Rakitic? Is he needed? Never going to be Steven Gerrard replacement,, I'd go for Draxler. He's got the lot, slightly reminds me of a young Stevie

Agree0 Disagree0

Entirely possible, AG. Just seems to me like a bit of a knock on Sterling/Ibe and even to an extent Borini/Suso and their aspirations with us. That's not to say I don't like Salah, as I do rate him, just not sure he's a huge improvement over what we have already.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Dec 2013 21:33:14
The Real AG.

Joe Allen has been with us from past 2 years. out of which he was injured for half of the time. he did played for about 35+ games for Liverpool?
What has he done that you keep defending him?
I can show you 15 good players better than him at his age. and at his given price.
The first guy to be dropped If Gerrard or any other CM comes in would be Allen.
I don't have any personal grudges against Allen, But If we need to Improve any position, Its his.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Dec 2013 21:33:57
Daxler would cost you close to 50 mill. and there are more than 5 top clubs after him.

Agree0 Disagree0

Salah, Rakitic & Montoya + Tello on loan at the expense of Moses.

Agree0 Disagree0

Tcotton:- Borini, Aspas, Illori, Assiadi, Sturridge, Cotinhiou. All under £10mill. Anything over £10 mill would seem to attract an element of self funding.

For example, Torres out, Suarez and Carroll in. Carroll out Sakho in.

It's not rocket science TCotton and it's why we have a load of crap on the bench.

Agree0 Disagree0

Harry, I have no inclination to argue with you, simply because you don't understand anything.

Your posts continue to baffling and clueless as usual.

Agree0 Disagree0

I understand where you are coming from RDL and DBol. I think Ibe and Suso (again) will be going on loan next summer and Moses will be shipped back to Chelsea soon.

I am not sure what will happen to Borini or Aspas but if these things happen, then we will be left with very little to rely on and I think Salah would be a good competent upgrade on Moses, maybe not a huge improvement, but a good one. He is also a very hardworking player.

Draxler, no chance I think and I am, like I said before, unsure about Rakitic. He is at a similar level to Cabaye, but not as effective defensively and my biggest concern is that he will be a light-weight like Aquilani.

Agree0 Disagree0

I can see your point as well, AG. I guess my concern is we seem to have a dearth of young players who are all good, but perhaps not quite good enough yet- Suso, Borini, Sterling, Coady, Kelly, Ibe, Ilori, Alberto, Texeira, Coutinho, Flanagan, Wisdom, etc. The above need to play to improve further, but I don't know that most have the patience to wait for them and I do think at some point we need to either start letting some of them play more or let them move on for the sake of their careers. Loans are feasible I suppose but for me it makes little sense to continue buying youngsters to replace loaned out current ones (e.g. Alberto and Ilori as good examples- both whom I like, but I can't completely understand loaning say Suso and Wisdom then bringing in Alberto and Ilori).

Agree0 Disagree0

I do wonder whether you have actually seen the players you sometimes rave about, Harry, or whether you just wait for one of the eds to praise or link a player and spew out 'player x will walk into any team etc.'

Agree0 Disagree0

What's happened to young Ibe these days Ed001?
He looked a proper star when he was brought in, and now seems to have fallen off the radar.
I had to do a double take when Smith was brought on yesterday. What was that about, are we really so short on numbers?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - Ibe has had a few injuries, which is why he never made the bench yesterday. Smith has been performing well, he was rewarded with a chance to play yesterday, same as Flanno did. We needed him to play at left back really, for the lad to show what he can do.}

Yeah Smith's best quality is over lapping runs and taking on other fullbacks on the break, not receiving the ball and having to make things happen.

Agree0 Disagree0

I have seen Smith play as right back too and he could be just as effective there.

hahahhahah. that's a good one. Ed02. is a kool guy. whose a bit biased when it comes to Chelsea-Liverpool. I slated Johnson. got banned. Johnson proved to be the weakest link. I slated Jose. Got banned again.
Any stuppid, good or neutral chelsea fan could come here and post a banter. But its not the same with chelsea page. I have had experience. 7/10 mine post doesn't get uploaded in chelsea banter page.
Look down. you could see Chelsea fans here arguing, slating. commenting more than our post.
But I Admire and appreciate all the ED's.

ED01. not exactly.

Mine would be a straight forward way to slate a player. like. Johnson is terrible. horrible.
some-here would do it more Politely and diplomatically.
Glen Johnson is the weak link, who gave away possession and wouldn't walk into any team.

Jose is arrogant. some would change this to ". Jose is a master tactician who opens the mouth and criticize the player who has got a bit of ego and would love to spend the money and want to do things of his own. "

whats the difference?.

Look at the joy of Chelsea fans when ED02 returns to their page.

If you wanna start a banter, start with ". Lampard is a legend. and then spout whatever you want to, would surely make it to chelsea page. "

But All the Eds are brilliant. you guys are the reason we inspite of sitting pretty far away believes close to the Club.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I really think you need to stop and reread your own posts. They are abusive. Just calling someone horrible or terrible is abusive. Pointing out why someone is a poor player, such as giving away possession or not working hard enough, is a world away from just spouting abuse.}

Hi Ed001, as we are interested in Rakitic, would you be able to give your view on him as a player and where he'd fit into the team (in your opinion) please? I haven't seen him play before and would love to know what his strengths and weaknesses etc are if you have the time. I'm aware you're very busy so no worries if you don't have the time to answer this.

Cheers,

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - he is a very good player, in my opinion, scores and creates goals, which we are badly missing. I believe he would be a very good long term replacement for Gerrard, not the Gerrard we once had, admittedly, but the Gerrard we have now. He doesn't have the bite that I feel we are missing, he is more the kind of player who will turn up in the box and get on the end of things. Cabaye is a good comparison (thanks to whoever suggested that, as I forget who it was now), as he does seem to have that creative spark Cabaye possesses. He needs to be in and around the opposition box to be at his best.}

Once you said bite goals ect I was thinking cabaye straight away would love cabaye so would be happy with rakitic if comparisons are right

Ivan Ractic have a 32 mill Release clause, I believe, Are we going to spend that?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - the clause is irrelevant, Sevilla need money.}

Cheers Ed, you're a star! Excited for the window to open now.

I saw that you mentioned the positions we are looking for are full backs, a midfielder (in the Rakitic mold) and a forward. I would love to see Salah and Rakitic (based on what I've heard from you guys). In regards to the full back positions I think a left back like Coentrão would be ideal. What would upset me is if we buy a right back though, we just need to drop Johnson, promote Kelly and use McLaughlin and Johnson as back up in my opinion.

I assume there's nothing in the Pedro rumours that seem to be doing the rounds?

Anyhow, thanks again Ed!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - as far as I am aware, Pedro is not interested in a move anywhere, before the summer anyway. He knows he almost guarantees a world cup place by being at Barca. That came from an excellent source who knows the lad very well, so I have no reason to doubt it.}

Thanks again Ed, much appreciated! Have a good NYE.

Man UTD doesn't need a No.10 player. Rooney plays in that position. what they need is a CM and DM.
Both Milan clubs doesn't have money to buy. with AC Milan sitting at 11th and Inter at 5th. No ways they going to make it to CL in another 5 years.

Common BR sign him up. should have bought Medal and him in the summer.

I can imagine Brendan Rodgers replacing the entire defence in the next two transfer windows. Simon Mignolet and Mamadou Sakho have begun replacing Pepe Reina and Daniel Agger, the strongest two in the defensive five in my opinion. RIGHT BACK. CENTRE BACK. LEFT BACK.
The same I think will happen with Lucas Leiva as holding midfielder. We need at least two players who can break up the opponents attack and set up our own. Lucas can break the attack but cannot then push forward and take on the opponents defence. Steven Gerrard can still do this and we need to find him a midfield partner who can defend like Lucas and attack like him. HOLDING MIDFIELDER.

After that, it's just about buying competition for the squad.
Simon Mignolet needs to be pushed, Brad Jones cannot compete. GOALKEEPER.
Kelly, Coates, Wisdom, Ilori, Sama and Jones can compete for defensive cover.
Jon Flanagan, Ryan McLaughlin, Jack Robinson and Brad Smith will be covering and competing for first team football.
Jordan Henderson and Joe Allen have proved they can defend and attack, Jordan Rossiter and Conor Coady are coming through but they need competition now, not in the future. HOLDING MIDFIELDER.
Suso, Sterling, Coutinho, Alberto and Ibe are quality options to have but we do need one more and that needs to be a top quality forward who can score and assist. WINGER/FORWARD.
Suarez and Sturridge are phenomenal but when they are injured we have to change formation as there is no one in our squad who can compete, we need to find a player or two who can come into the team and help us stay in formation. STRIKER.

Hi guys, this is meant as friendly banter from a Blue across the park. I have read lots of posts below and have watched your team a few times this season. Firstly I am impressed with your progress and think you have improved no end. Secondly I think Suarez is at last showing some real form and playing like he wants to be with you. That aside, during the last transfer window, I posted on here that I was surprised at just how many players you were signing in the 5 - 20 million range that I considered not as good or not better than players you already had. (an honest assessment. not meant to be a wind up). I asked if it would not have been better to spend say 25 million x 2 on 2 well known established players and concentrate on youth for back up. I got a bit of a slating. I see some posts on here now suggesting you sign quite a few other new players. Do you not think now would be better to let your squad settle and develop? Let Brendan maybe sign one or two top quality players in positions you are weaker? And of course hold on to Suarez. I would think Real Madrid might come knocking soon. Just a few thoughts.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Hi degsy, glad to have you over for a sensible post.
I for one am pleasantly surprised at everton this year and they have improved a lot this season and wish you all the best ( hopefully below us though this season )
Although I do agree that BR has bough a few cheap, average players I think it was mostly to fill in some depth in the team which we still seem to be lacking, especially going forwards and midfield. I'm sure however that if BR was interested in a 25mil player as you are saying we would have tried to sign them as we did with mhkitaryan, d.costa and willian who opted for other teams, which is fine. However this meant that its better to not go spend the money just for the sake of it on 25 players BR didn't feel they were what we needed, and I agree with that.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree to an extent. But, it is very difficult to attract these players who would cost £25 million without CL football and without paying the wages Chelsea or Man City do.

Also, having bought players in the summer, we still find that half-way into the season, the squad is not deep enough. So, in a way, we needed to bring those players, but it is unfortunate that some of them have not hit the ground running.

Agree0 Disagree0

This is a difficult decesion. Buy quality players and beef up with reserve players? Or buy the £5/15 million players in the hope that some are bargains. Sturridge, Coutinho and Migolet have improved us. Other players have yet to offer much.

What I will say that all teams have players that don't cut it for 1 reason or another but it becomes more obvious with a thinish squad and injuries. It is were we are I guess.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Dec 2013 18:34:18
But looking at the half way line and the Table. I think we can convince some good quality players.

Agree0 Disagree0

Cisshokho is poor and would return back.
Aspas is a good player whose just like Ba at Chelsea or Hernandez. No playing time. simple.
Sahin left an year back. Borini might or might not.
llori haven't touched the ball, and would play regular in next season, once we offload a defender.

Thought I'd throw a conspiracy theory out there, we all know Skrtel was all but gone earlier in the year and has now been pushed back in the first 11. I wonder if this has been done to potentially increase his price with the January window looming so I would not be surprised to see him move back to Russia. This raises some much needed transfer budget whilst not leaving us short in that position

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Hearing that the 2 wingers that we want signed are both Tello and Salah - Tello on a loan deal.
However with these 2 I still don't expect them to waltz into the team the way that Sterling is playing.
We didn't play well against Chelsea but I can see that being a little hiccup.

Our squad depth is getting better and better (bar injuries), and it is a real headache for us fans to pick a team never mind BR. For me 3 attacking players are sorted.
Sturridge, Suarez & Coutinho, however that 4th place, the RW still needs a cemented player, and so far that definitely is Sterling as his performances have been class.

This time last year is when we saw Sterling lose his place in the XI, but that time it was rightly so. This year, I see it being a whole lot harder for the newcomers to get a run of games if our current attackers keep up their form.

Hi Eds and fellow reds.

After another abject performance by Glen Johnson I'm wondering what the problem is?

Is it a lack of genuine competition for his position leading to complacency much like Enrique last season, or is it simply because he is not good enough?

When he produces a great performance is he exceeding himself or should that be his normal level?

My thoughts are that he needs genuine competition to up his current level. However, I feel due to his shortcomings defensively he should be replaced if not in January then definitely in the summer.

I would love to hear the eds or fellow reds thoughts?

Gordy

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I heard someone on here mention he's been in a strop because he was offered a new contract with the exact same pay packet as he is currently on - anybody know if this is true?

Personally I think that because he is established that his attitude is he can do what he wants because he will always be in the team. Some of the stupid flicks and passes he tries in his own half are a joke and his passing in general is so sloppy at times. He is a player resting on his laurels and until there is competition and he is dropped he has no reason to change. He should be dropped, any other player would have been by now.

p.s. anyone know why Flanagan hasn't featured the past few games given his excellent form? Injury?

I think it's time to move him on

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - it is always possible to bring in higher calibre players, it is just more difficult to find them before they have made their name, rather than just picking up high profile players for big fees. I don't see us ever being in a position we can just go for big fee superstars, we will always end up being outbid by richer clubs. Having Champions League will just make it easier to persuade those with a choice to join us over someone else.}

30 Dec 2013 17:11:56
Ok ed I feel a more direct route is required here do you believe we will be able to sign anyone in this window who will be able to strengthen the starting 11 or must we first qualify for the champions league and with whatever information you are aware of who we're interested in do you believe they will indeed push us on thanks

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - there are clubs out there that need to sell and have better players than we have now, such as Sevilla and Rakitic. I don't think we have a strong enough squad, or team for that matter, that we can't improve it any more without the draw of the Champions League. Salah is another one who could strengthen the first team immediately and would be available. Both are players we are interested in.}

Ed1 is there any chance of negotiating a reasonable price for Rakitic?

Dust has settled somewhat so here goes. Chelsea vs Liverpool

Positives

- Always an attacking threat and resultingly we look like we can get a goal, this bodes well for the future
- The players (with a notable exception or 2) really seem to be pulling together and fighting for the club
- Young fella's are doing well

Negatives

- Lacked energy, usual pressing game absent (and slightly voided by every Chelsea swan dive resulting in a free kick)
- Defensively we still look really vulnerable
- Johnson is a liability, consistently bad, bad attitude and blasé attitude consistently undermines team as well as losing possession, MUST BE DROPPED
- Skrtel is just a bad defender, his marking for their second goal was not good enough
- Mignolet will be disappointed with his poppadum palmed attempt at saving the Eto'o goal
- Fatigue and squad depth a big concern, lack a player to make an impact from the bench (Aspas looks like he just does not care)
- Coutinho lacklustre in last few games, lost possession too much and lacked usual creative spark

summary

A tight affair and one that, if I am honest, we didn't really deserve to win. With so many games in such a short space of time squad depth was always going to be tested and right now our lack of depth is glaringly obvious. This isn't disastrous but it does show the need to constantly strengthen - our summer signings (with the exception of Sakho) have made no impact what-so-ever. Our team looked tired and even the usually tireless Henderson looked leggy. Having said that after this run of games starting with Spurs away I would have taken 6 points - that's what we have got so I am not too disappointed. Our performances have been to a high standard, the improvement it clear to see. Still obvious however that some individuals are letting us down badly - Johnson has been our worst performer for months now and only injury coupled with lack of squad depth has allowed him to remain unchallenged for the right back berth - his attitude is not good enough and personally feel he should be dropped immediately. Skrtel has been equally poor, positionally clueless and surely only a matter of time before he concedes a penalty and/or gets sent off. He isn't good enough for our system, I hope Agger or Toure get the nod again soon, we need to be more solid. Also been disappointed with Mignolet in the last 2 games - badly at fault at City, partially at fault for Chelsea's second, he needs to rediscover his form, as his mistakes have cost us badly.

I think we are moving in the right direction and am happy with the team, end of the January transfer window will be interesting depending on whether or not we sign anyone. It's clear we need re-enforcements - if we make CL next season it will be even clearer.

Just want to talk about the refereeing recently. Whilst I thought the officialdom was poor at City I think both teams benefitted from it - I would argue personally that Kompanys elbow thrust firmly into Skrtels throat made their challenges, though vigorous, 50/50. There were a few bad decisions in that game but ultimately we didn't win because we missed golden chances and made a goal keeping error. In the Chelsea game I think the officials were so biased towards Chelsea that it became embarrassing. Oscar and Hazards diving was just pathetic but it meant our pressing game became pointless as Webb was only too happy to award freekicks on a whim. Eto'o could and probably should have been sent off and his challenge on Suarez was definitely a foul and thus a penalty. Chelsea's run of decisions and luck at Stamford Bridge is well known and it seemingly knows no bounds. Its laughable that Mourinho accuses Suarez of swandives when half his team were at it and always have been! His Real Madrid side were famous for it and his previous Chelsea team including the master Drogba were regular culprits. He is a hypocrite in everything he says - it is just a shame referee's seem to bend to his will. The commentators said a number of times that Oscar was "clever" for getting himself in front of the man and falling over. It isn't clever its cheating pure and simple. Referee's shouldn't pander to it but for some reason at Chelsea they always do. Don't know if it is corruption or what but the pattern remains - Chelsea get decisions and the other team doesn't. Seen and heard a lot of Chelsea fans defend it but look at the fuss when they didn't get those penalties against Barca a few years ago - never seen such over the top protests and complaints. I know every team gets home decisions to an extent - Chelsea's proportion of home decisions are just greater and more frequent than everyone else's.

p.s. anybody know why Ferguson being on txting terms with Howard Webb has not even merited any sort of investigation?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - how can you say Aspas doesn't look like he cares? That is harsh and unfair on a lad that is all about hard work and non stop running. I think you need to watch him more. There are holes in his game, but a lack of effort and desire is not one of them.}

Soz ed001, I know he hasn't been blessed with much game time coming off the bench and I don't wish to write a player off after less than half a season eh. From the limited amount of time he has got from the bench he hasn't really done anything of note. Perhaps saying he doesn't care was the wrong choice of words so allow me to rephrase: The sort of impact you'd expect from a substitute coming off of the bench in big games has been absent and at the moment he has really failed to impress after being brought on. I'm all in favour of him being given time and I certainly don't want to see a repeat of the Borini spectacle of a player practically bullied out of the club by his own fans. I hope Aspas can show glimpses of what he is capable of (and perhaps Hull at home would be a good game to start him in given he will be relatively fresh) but at present I feel his body language has been poor and his performances anonymous at best. I appreciate he may lack confidence but, as with any player, consistently poor performances open him up to criticism. I do sincerely hope he gets time and shows what he is capable of - from a squad perspective it could make a big difference.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - his main problem is that he lacks the body strength required to play in the Prem. He is technically capable of holding the ball up and beating a man, but in the Prem you just get smashed off it by your opponent, which just doesn't happen much in Spain. I would also have to say that the strengthening work he is doing will leave him extremely tired. He is probably coming into games with his strength sapped, but it will help him in the long term, when his body adjusts. It takes a while, like any new training routine, for your body to adjust to the demands being made, but once it adapts, which can take months, we will get to see if it has helped him.}

That would make a lot of sense Ed, as I say I believe every player should be given time. The transition for some comes easier than others and I don't believe that just because Aspas has struggled in his first half a season that it means he should be sold. He needs time, maybe we won't see the best of him until next season? I think every player should be given time, snap decisions haven't benefitted us in the past and there is no reason they will benefit us now.

As always a reasoned response from you Ed, cheers la

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - he does need time. Not sure if he will turn out to be the player we need, but he deserves the chance to prove himself one way or another.}

Is he keen on going through the process though ed001? i'm sure at this point he knows that it would take some time. I know u said its not because he hasn't put in effort, cause i'm really just asking if he will go through it, with world cup coming, he might opt for something else for the moment. but I really hope he makes it with us, I love it when a player proves people wrong.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - he was never in the running for a World Cup place, you have to play for Barca or Madrid to be assured of one, this is his best chance of getting a Spanish place in the future.}

Yeah I guess I mightev been over excited there on a spain spot haha. but del bosque did mention his name once or twice i'd remember. anyway all the best for him.

Hope we get top 4 or else the season will be massive let down!

Kopforever

Agree0 Disagree0

I can't agree with that Kopforever.
We have lost 2 games against top opposition that's all.
We were 7 pts behind arsenal a few weeks ago and then two weeks later we were top and now we are 6pts off the top and you are saying the season is as good as over.
I think we are in a decent place to be honest.
Obviously we need to win our next game and hopefully go on a little run.
We have picked up 6ts from 12 with 3 of those matches against Spurs, Chelsea and Man City. That is not bad form.
I felt we needed to beat one of those 3 teams and we have. We have also been unlucky not to take further points from the last two games.
Keep the faith with this team.
All I want is for my team to compete and that's what we are doing.
We have all of the top sides still to play at home. 6 out of 7 of the hardest games we have to play are at Anfield.
Let the critics have a go at us. We know we are improving. We are halfway through the season and we are in contention so let's make sure we are still there with 10 games to go. Then we can sing the boys home!

Barnes mate I have full faith in Rodgers & our team but I'm slightly worried about our squad, if you see teams above us or teams below us who have cut the gap have a big squad & have all played top teams same as us, which is worrying because if we don't get our targets in jan or they strengthen their team then its a massive battle for us which we could avoid, if i'm honest I was always worried about united`s squad & very happy with the advantage we had against them but now that advantage is gone, which makes it very difficult for us unless we get our targets in jan & they hit the ground running, from now the pressure will be on for all teams, any lose or gained points will have a massive effect on it!

What a classy bunch Chelsea are, courteous fans, model professionals and a manager gracious in victory.

Tough game yesterday against a very talented team, I think the fact a win was even expected by some people shows just how far the team have progressed. Apparently Suarez dived for a penalty and the fact the player who fouled him shouldn't have been on the pitch is all irrelevant now. We had two very tough away games and lost them both, the team need to move on and prepare for Hull, the next game really is a must win and with this ridiculous Christmas schedule is hope the lads have it in them.

And Ozone do you have a dual personality on here that you post as when things are going well or do you just crawl out from under your rock whenever the team doesn't win?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I just crawl out from under the rock when we don't win. I'm a critique.

Agree0 Disagree0

From a Blue across the park. I agree with you mate. Moriniho tries to manipulate the press every time. It was a penalty on Suarez and Eto should have not even been on the pitch after 3 minutes. However, theirs was a penalty too. One thing I must say against you though. is how does Skrtel get away with holding players all the time on corners? Not so much in yesterday's game, but by the laws of the game (rule 12) he gives away a penalty on every corner. Watched it quite a bit lately and I think you have been lucky so far that Refs have not given any.

It just shows the difference in the clubs. We are an internationally supported team that has some of the most dedicated, loyal fans in the world. We have had two defeats on the bounce yet these pages are not deserted but full of optimism and support for the players, manager and club.
We just want the best for our team and have no concern with any other team or fans because we have enough to talk about between us.

Daveyboyboy Blue has no one to talk to on the Everton pages because they are all part time supporters who would rather see Liverpool lose than Everton win.
Focus on your own club for a change and enjoy watching your team whose best players don't even belong to you.

Bring on the derby.

good one.

Agree0 Disagree0

Everton base there success on how they do in comparison to Liverpool, all they care about is the mersyside cup, mind you no trophies in 18 years I suppose you got to get what you can. I hate them

Agree0 Disagree0

Indeed bring on the derby, you were lucky to get out of the last one without double figures being conceded. Re best players, I'd say Barkley, Coleman. Baines, McCarthy et al very much belong to Everton

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes but you do have 40 million worht of talent on loan

how will you replace lukaku at the end of the season

dont get me wrong everton are doing really well.but losing lukaku will be a huge blow at the end of the season.
you ll also lose deulofeu,, you ll prob keep barry

so that a quality winger and striker mising. and that's 35 mill at leat of anyones money

now you might loan in others but will they keep performing to the same standard. I m not so sure, not every loan signing works out well

Agree0 Disagree0

Its not that we don't post every second of the day we just don't moan like u do

Agree0 Disagree0

Firstly, DB Cooper and snowbaw1872, thank you for proving my point just by responding to the post. Why are you on the Liverpool page if you are such big Evertonians?

Secondly, the point about Liverpool being lucky in the derby. We were 1-0 up then 2-1 up and if Allen didn't miss that sitter it would have been 3-1.
Its easy to talk about missed chances for your team but it works both ways, I actually thought a draw was a fair result in the end but it was better for us because you were the home team an we were trailing 3-2 with 2 minutes to go.

Thirdly, I think Lukaku, Deulofeu and Barry are also your better players and they are on loan so at least be fair with your points.

Lastly, the majority of comments on the Liverpool page are positive, supportive posts. I haven't seen any moaning on this page for months apart from the odd BR hater.
We support our own team, you should try it sometime.

Agree0 Disagree0

I've proven no point as there was talk on our site about bitching and moaning here and thought I'd have a little look for entertainment purposes.
Re loans Barry is 99% certain to stay, we have an option on Deulofeu for a second season if all goes to plan and finally, Lukaku. Yes, no doubt he will be tricky to replace but with the rise in tv money and profits made on Fellaini and Anichebe I'm optimistic there'll be some cash left for a decent striker, though Bill does have previous with money going missing so I won't hold my breath there.
I'm actually not on here to argue anything but when you see derogatory comments made about your club it is tempting to reply.
For what it's worth I think your lads have done extremely well this season, played some really attractive stuff and, much like ourselves have perhaps exceeded our respective expectations.
May battle commence for the CL places but I think you'll just have the edge on us with your dynamic No7 in the form of his life.
One thing's for certain Roberto has made us a force again and I trust he'll bring in suitable replacements for any players that depart, be it on loan or otherwise as long as it's within the rules and regulations I don't have any issue with it.
You have Moses and Cissokho, we have Deulofeu, Barry and Lukaku, so fans, media, pundits etc are talking out of their rear ends when they claim we have an unfair advantage.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Dec 2013 18:42:15
Can someone tell me, why Deulofeu would wanna join Everton from Barca? or Lukaku from chelsea?
Gareth Barry is on the same wage, which you pay for your whole 20 players available.
Mr. Ross Barkley would be off in Jan or Summer.

Agree0 Disagree0

I like everton but really its clear your team is our shadow face facts and that's what kills ya, but you would be happier to face facts and embrace it I mean coming on here waffling at christmas is such a silly silly move.your club probably doesn't have a room big enough for all Liverpools trophies. martinez had wigan looking alright at one stage aswell.also at least when we get europe we will give it a good run.always have. class vs form

Agree0 Disagree0

Because we're a better team than the reds? And have a positive, progressive manager who doesn't whinge, so there's that to factor into consideration. And Barkley will be going nowhere anytime soon. And when you lose sewer rat you'll fall into the obscurity of mid table.

Agree0 Disagree0

I rate Everton and their manager. Yes, they have some loanees however they are also getting the most out of them. It will be a very interesting battle for the top 4 and the Toffees will be right up there.

guys listen. i'm glad that most fans are realistic and not blaming too many players. bar johnson an skrtel it seems. but anyway. Liverpool are progressing. and so is the manager

he makes mistakes too but he is learning as he goes on.

the fact is. even everton are better than us. at this stage. they bought mcarthy. and loaned lukaku an delefeu and barry. and we wasted 14 mill on tw players who won't cut it. so brendan has to learn from mistakes too

point blank . they have a better attack than we have. look at oveiedo barkely mirrelas and piennar. and we have sterling coutinho and henderson. i'm sorry but they are better

the proof is there to see in the table. just compare their midfield to ours and you will see the difference

Believable0 Unbelievable0

You seem to be forgetting a certain Mr suarez from our attack? Wait till may and then see who is or isn't better than us

Agree0 Disagree0

You have to consider the fact that there's lesser pressure in managing and playing for everton. a couple of bad games and allen was hugely criticized. if mccarthy does the same, it'll probably go unnoticed. lukaku had a drought for few games but there's no pressure on him. he can relax and get back to his form. while at Liverpool, people will start asking questions. deulofeu had a very good chance of scoring against us but he couldn't. it was not hyped a lot and he coolly played the next game. yes everton are playing well and yes they are all good players, but at Liverpool even they and martinez would have performed a bit differently

Agree0 Disagree0

Us? Nah you ain't a Liverpool supporter unless you're ozone in disguise. Were a point behind the so called better team when we have played everyone away bar united. They haven't they also have us to play at home which is a more winnable game then it is for them. Stop talking mate your even worse then ozone atleast he pops up now and again your just rambling on trying to cut the atmosphere when for once after loess were still optimistic.

Agree0 Disagree0

So evertons mirallas lukaku deulofeu kone

are better than sturridge suarez courinho sterling

i don't think so mate

regards the midfield. everton have more numbers and a slight edge, but they won't by close of this window

defensively. distin is 36, jagielka is quality, coleman and baines are class, oviedo has done briliantly in baines absence

our defense has much greater strength in depth

martinez is doing a superb job at everton

Agree0 Disagree0

Hah, you missed out suarez who is better than all 4 of them put together.

The only reasons everton are a point higher than us are because A. We took 0 points from 2 games we deserved at LEAST a draw and B. Because we have played 5/6 of the top teams away.

Open your eyes dude.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Dec 2013 18:43:36
Noshbag.
Excellent. let's see what they going to do when they visit Stamford bridge.

Agree0 Disagree0

We'll probably just do what we did to Arsenal and Man U and play them off the park unlike your lot who went to the emirates and got your pants pulled down. Chelski are no great shakes as we proved beating them without Lukaku and Deulofeu.

Agree0 Disagree0

Nice one DB I'm with you all the way. The League position and points tally speaks for itself as we approach the second half of the season. No doubt FSG will again pour millions of their dollars into the hands of big Brenda who'll simply squander it once again on rubbish, desperate buys in an attempt to gain favour with their deluded supporters. Instead why doesn't he come clean and apologise to the FA and Referees Association for his outrageous comments questioning the integrity of our officials?
I hope they throw the book at him in the New Year!

Hi Ed's.
Could you shed any light on this? Just had a call telling me Liverpool are in talks to bring in a young Spanish player, possibly on loan however he couldn't find out the name. Just wondering if anyone had heard anything or can put a name to this rumour? I can't think of any young spaniards we would loan other than Morata but I think it's highly unlikely to be him?
Cheers and hope everyone has a great new year

Believable0 Unbelievable0

On loan for rest of the season apparently? I don't know where that leaves the Salah deal though

There is no shame in losing to City or Chelsea!

We do have a thin squad which needs addressing in Jan, but if we continue to beat the "smaller" teams and get something out of the big games we will be up there come may.

Red Rum

Believable0 Unbelievable0

But you're not getting anything from the big games are you?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - we beat Man Utd and Spurs and got a point against your lot, that would be getting something, unless I am mistaken.}

Always had in my mind that the only away game in the rest of the season against the expected top 7 is Man U that we beat at home earlier in the season.

Add to that two simply appalling ref decisions that in the case of both City and Chelsea denied us a point for each - adding up the numbers that's 8 from 21. not perfect, but if you were to include the two denied points that would be 10 from 21 of the top 7 teams (including yourselves) not bad when you consider 6 of those have been away from home!

We look forward to seeing 'rent a squad' at Anfield on the 28th Jan

Agree0 Disagree0

Dear Suffolk and red, allow me to chip in.The denied penalties you quote. I accept your point. Except a certain Skrtel gives away about 5 penalties a game based on your logic. Rule 12 clearly states that holding is a direct free kick. In the box = a penalty. I don't know why refs don't give these penalties? In the same way I don't know why you lot didn't get penalties in these two games? But to say you would have more points is probably not quite correct. I suspect you would have less points if refs had done things properly. you are starting to sound like one of us Blues mate!

Agree0 Disagree0

Dont recall everton getting much at city either

and you are yet to travel to stamford bridge

Agree0 Disagree0

Degsypulford, every team has its defenders pulling shirts. Of course Skrtel does it more often, but every team does it in every corner. And Mourinho himself said it is a physical game and all those stuff. But our penalties was more of a direct foul and often given and the offside against city was just way beyond imagination. In general referees must maintain a certain standard and they do in terms of shirt pulling but not in any other terms.

Agree0 Disagree0

Degsy's right. Why not rename him Shirtel instead?

Hi all. Hope everyone is not too downhearted after yesterdays result. We have made huge progress but do need some quality additions. Hope Salah gets done and also a powerful midfielder like Diame perhaps.?
Just seen brendans update that henderson is also carrying an injury. The lad has played a lot of football. I think we should stick kolo in midfield with lucas for the hull game. He has played there earlier in his career and it will allow coutinho to play central with sterling and maybe aspas out wide. Not ideal but I think with 2 defensive minded midfielders it will allow full backs (johnston as lb and maybe kelly as rb) to bomb on and will give coutinho more scope to link with suarez. Injurys are a problem so I reckon this should help us exact eevenge on hull.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

my transfer wish list: salah 10m, alonso 5m (since he's contract's expiring), pastore loan, tello loan, gonalons 12 m, bertrand 6m. if possible terminate cissokho's loan.
in short 3 mids, 2 attackers and 1 lb. it would give us the necessary depth. but doubt we'll be bringing in this many players.

After listening to the after match interviews yesterday, I have lost any respect I had (which was not a lot anyway) in that p. k JM.

He should be hauled in front of a disciplinary commission for his comments about Suarez.

In no way did LS dive at any time during the game, and he got absolutely no protection from another person in Spider's Web.

Both Eto, and the main diving culprit yesterday Oscar, should have been sent off. In fact I am a bit disappointed that the ref only booked Oscar because it means he will get off scott free with his offence. Eto on the other hand will likely be banned retrospectively for 3 games, as should insect Web.

We played OK in parts yesterday, and not so good at times, but we could have got something out of the game.

We keep hoping that we can do it finally this year - top 4 I mean. At the halfway stage however, Everton have done better than us, and have spent virtually nothing.

Should it be allowed to be able to play so many loan players in games?

My main concern is that we do not have the physical presence in midfield, and I think this is because BR seems to like diminutive players in his team, which is great if they are really top notch, but what we have isn't.

I think we are now probably about where we will end up at the end of the season, but obviously hope for higher.

KBL

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Diving is bad, but we've all seen Drogba dance the caterpillar on the turf enough.

Agree0 Disagree0

If you listen to the interview mourinho gave, he actually slips up saying "it should have been a penalty" and then corrects it "sorry a yellow". he knows it withing that it was a penalty. but he can't tell that to the media can he?
but I love LS's attitude these days. he tries to get up quickly even when fouled and doesn't go down that easily. I thought the incident with terry was 50-50 but eto'o clearly fouled him. and twice in 4 days we've been deprived of a point

Liverpool January window!

Out:
Aspas loan
Alberto loan
Ibe loan
Ilori loan
McLaughlin loan
Texxeria loan
Kelly loan
Cissokko loan return

Ins:
Wisdom loan return
Tello loan
Salah 8m
Montoya 5m
Fernando 5m

A lot of movement but Rodgers clearly doesn't trust Alberto Aspas Cissokko Ilori Kelly as they have hardly kicked a ball all season. Allowing them to go on loan will get money for them or allow them to prove their worth!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We lack cover in midfield the most and you want only 1 mid to join us? plus one is going out on loan. and so many youngsters shouldn't be sent on loan and aspas needs to stay. IMO 1 Lb, 2-3 mid and 1-2 attacker is what we need

What is everyone ls opinions about the players swapping jerseys at half time sakho and etoo and the coutinho and oscar?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I'll tell you what dezy, Skrtel's been swapping shirts at corners and free kicks all season in your own penalty area and yet has he conceded a penalty? Perhaps just another factor Brenda chooses to ignore when he starts bleating about referees.

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't think they should swap til end of game, especially with players who should have been sent off .

Agree0 Disagree0

I honestly don't see an issue. If Sakho played the rest of the game like it was over I would see some fault in it.

Agree0 Disagree0

Daveyboy, lad, have you nothing better to do?

This is a banter page but all you shower take it to another level.

Do one DH.

Agree0 Disagree0

Dave boy! You support a club who have more loans on the go than Wonga!

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't think the players should do it - we're in a battle against a bitter rival. By all means swap shirts after the game is over but half time is half time, still a battle to be fought, prefer the players to remain focused and aggressive and save the pleasantries for full time.

Agree0 Disagree0

Lyndon, unless I am mistaken we have one more loan than you. Difference is we have a manager with a vision, who brings in proper players, and 2 have the potential to be made permanent, just because yours are garbage no need to be jealous.
You have a deluded whinger in charge who's become more like Wenger every time I see his ugly kipper on tv.

Agree0 Disagree0

@ DB Cooper

If you think either Lukaku or Deulofeu will be making the move to Everton permanent then you are deluded. Lukaku is Chelsea's best player and Deulofeu highly regarded at the Nou Camp.

Agree0 Disagree0

Dear oh dear I appear to be ruffling a few feathers on here don't I? What is it with Kopites and how they react when they've lost a couple of games?
The difference between the two clubs (apart from points and league position) is class. Bleating Brenda complaining against the officials at any opportunity attempting to cover up his own shortfalls as a manager who has vastly overspent on rubbish as opposed to Roberto who speaks with knowledge and sense at every press conference.
Onwards and upwards. COYB

Agree0 Disagree0

I am not deluded in the slightest Seano, Barry is more or less a certainty to sign permanently and I've been reliably informed that Deulofeu is a possibility, however slight, it's not entirely out of the question. Let's face it he's not getting a regular starting place in that Barca team anytime soon. Lukaku, who knows with Mourinho in charge. Extremely unlikely but a lot will depend on who chelski buy, even then it's still unlikely. Never say never in this game. If being positive makes me delusional then that's fine by me.

Agree0 Disagree0

I wonder what Shanks would say?

I think Sakho would be subbed and dropped.

Players should be sweating blood to get those shirts and if they want to give it away the should be binned off.

Respect the shirt, never give it away. If an opponent wants one then send them to the club's shop. That's my view.

Agree0 Disagree0

@ daveyboyblue

Yeah all class Martinez defending a blatant Mirallas red card.

@ dbcooper

Yeah it does make you delusional, Chelsea are not going to sell Lukaku but, if they do, there will be bigger and better teams than Everton lining up for his signature, you have no chance. Deulofeu is 18! He might go out on loan again next season but there is no chance that Barca are going to sell up, wake up lad.

Interesting game yesterday - on this site, as ever there is much talk about who we need to get in and what positions etc - and no doubt players will be signed in Jan.

the biggest thing for me though, over the last two games in particular is our naivety.

Both games we have gone in front and both times we have been pegged back within minutes then failed to score again. I know that BR wants us to keep the ball on the floor and play from the back and I absolutely love watching it - but I just wish sometimes, especially when we have gone in front then occasionally they should play a little longer if they are under such pressure.

Jonhson yesterday got caught on the ball when we were 1 up - needlessly inviting pressure which helped Chelsea get momentum.

The teams with more experience will make sure that once they have gone in front they will do what is necessary to try and take the sting out of the opposition - we seem to help them get up a head of steam.

This is down to experience and know how - both of which you struggle to buy in Jan.

I am delighted with Liverpool this season - and have confidence we can keep going stongly, but fearful that we will keep dropping points without some opposition having to do too much - like yesterday.

I would like us to sign Alonso - as he has played in the league before, and has a calmness and assurance that at times we lack.

The young guns have improved and are exciting to watch - just need a guiding hand at certain times in the game.

Reading all this tosh on here makes me think that some of our fellow so called fans are being totally unrealistic.
This is a project which will take at least two or three years to build up to what it should be.
Yes, I agree some of the signings are not up to scratch but then which manager can say that every player he bought turned out to be a star.
We have to remember that the squad is probably the thinnest of the challenging group of teams and yet we are within touching distance of two teams with bottomless pits. In fact we came very close to matching them both on their own turf.
Come on guys keep backing the team and we will see with a couple of additions in this window we will be up there till the end.
Btw my picks would be Xabi Alonso, Mo Salah and a striker who can bang in the goals.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

No matter where we end up at the end its been a good season.we should be grateful.i agree alonso would be great but I don't know if he could hack the prem.hes no spring chicken. also although he scores sturridge spends more time injured than on the pitch this worries me.

Playing city and chelsea magnified our squads problems, surely we've all known were a small squad needing an attacking player, a holding mid and a left back plus a couple more players to pad out the squad? If you loose to city away in october and chelsea away in march no one notices the 2 defeats, loosing them back to back emphasises our weaknessess. Before the season started who would have believed we would be top at christmas? No one. A top 4 finish was the aim, and were so close with 19 games to go. The top positions are changing so much at the moment as well. Wait till may, if we get 3/4 players in January we could well challenge for top spot but would easily be knocking around top 4

Let's face, Chesea played their best game of the season yesterday against a top rival. Hazard, Willian and Oscar atimes where just too good for Lucas and co, plus David Luiz made sure Hendo was hidden leaving Suarez on his own most of the game. On the penalty decision, objectively Suarez wasn't through on goal neither was he even with the ball; Azpilicueta had already dispossessed him brilliantly and had started an attack. The better team won, I would say.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

try being realistic we are playing probably the best football of any team in the premiership at the moment, and if you had given me this points total and position at start of season i'd have snapped your hand off .
we could have taken points off both man city and chelsea had a couple of decisions gone are way but need to take heart with the man city display in there own back yard where others have been slaughtered.

Seasons greetings Eds and Fellow Reds! The morning after the night before and I have just switched on the TV and watched the Mourinho rant on SS News (what a muppet!) His utter contempt for Liverpool goes way back but his comments on Suarez yesterday and his antics on the touchline showed he had no class and he basically humiliated himself. To me he looked under serious pressure and needed that result more than anything, particularly given the depth of Chelsea spending and the size of their squad. Even then there was very little between the two teams and they had Howard Webb playing for them!

I won't deny I have been critical at times on some of the transfers and players performances for the Reds in the past but when all is said and done how any LFC fan can say we haven't progressed is astonishing! Brendan has done superbly this season with limited transfer funds and a meagre squad to choose from and although I agree that Aspas, Alberto and Co have not performed as we would have hoped it is difficult to add 5 or 6 quality players to the squad with a small transfer kitty that most of our other premier league rivals spend on one or two players! Fellaini, Lamela, Willian, Ozil, Jovetic etc etc what have they done this season! Most of these cost as much if not more than our whole transfer kitty!
I have no idea why Glen Johnson has massively underperformed recently and this must be a worry to BR as he was probably not concerned with this position this season but we should not panic buy in January as this sets us back more for the months to come! I will repeat a couple of quality loan deals if possible in midfield would help in the next window and there will be pressure to find players that instantly settle in to the team for the coming months but that is the same for all the top clubs as none of them have looked much better than us even if their squads look better on paper!

Realistically top four was always the main target and nothing has changed on that front - we have a better fixture list for the remainder of this season and BR is still the right man to take us there! Onwards and upwards I say and Happy New Year Eds and Fellow reds!

PS Eds, Do you know if we are interested in signing any of these players - Shaquiri, Lavezzi or Sanchez? And would you want any of them?

{Ed002's Note - There is no interest in those players.}

I think that we need 3 more players in the jan window.A fast good proper winger(salah), cdm as lucas is our only cdm and we need someone to challange his place. If he's injured, there will be some serious trouble.A good experienced cam/cm will also be nice too(rakitic), we can't always depend on coutinho for creativity.even though he has good potential to be world class, his goals and assists are very littler this season. I think with doing some good transfers and with injured players coming like sturridge, gerrard and enrique, it will be good for us in the second half of the season.

Unlike some posts on this site, I am quite happy with our performance yesterday but feel we should have snatch a draw. However, the performance of Glen Johnson seems to go from bad to worst. I think its time for BR to bench him. Anybody knows when is the skipper and Sturridge due to come coze we badly need them for our future games especially with the injury to Allen and the visible lack of support to Suarez in both games.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The tiredness was very evident after the Man City game where we worked really hard and gave a proud performance. Its okay that we lost but would have been happy to come away with no injuries, particularly Allen who has been playing good football in recent times

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool are playing a lot less games than the teams around them - why would they be tired?}

Smaller squad means less chance to rotate players. Just see our injury list ed002.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - You do understand that the senior squads are limited in size? Other clubs also have injuries - why look for excuses all of the time?}

Because Liverpool have a squad with no nowhere near as much depth as Chelsea or Man City.
They are playing more games yet still have unhappy players because they can't fit everybody in.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I know of one unhappy player at Chelsea and a couple at Manchester City - Liverpool certainly match that.}

Our midfielders Hendo, Allen and Lucas have played almost 4 full games without rotation. Don't you think they could be tired? Not saying Chelsea did not deserve the win, they sure did, you can only beat the team in front of you. But other teams have some players for rotation which is always the key at this part of the year.

gonalons seems to be available for 12-15m and will likely receive bid from napoli? why aren't we interested in him! I think he should be the first player we should be targetting

Disappointed with the result and performance yesterday. However, the last 2 defeats may be a blessing in disguise at it shows the lack of depth and quality in the squad that needs to be addressed in January. If we can bring in a few quality players (and I mean first team players not squad players) then it might still be our season.

With the exception of United, the rest of the top 7 have still to come to Anfield. We are by no means out of the race.

I do also think that a few Rodgers signings are questionable and he needs to make sure the players he brings in are upto LFC standard. Guys like Moses, Cissoskho and Aspas are simply not good enough. I would also be looking to move on Skrtel and potentially Johnson. If we could get a RB (Montoya is available for free this summer and may be available for 2m in January), Salah and Rakitic have been mentioned, whilst Fernando from Porto is still relatively young and experienced. All these players are available at greatly reduced prices and would add the necessary depth and quality to the squad for a title push.

I just hope we will not be penning pinching as I genuinely believe that the title is there for the taking.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Most of us thought moses, cissokho and aspas would be good signings. johnson has been poor and should be dropped. but RB isn't the position that should really concern us. our depth in midfield is not good. we need 2 mids that are not for the future but to challenge lucas, gerrard, allen and hendo for starting place. and 1 more attacker is needed. we have enough cover at the back, except LB. we just need to sort out the best combination.

Agree0 Disagree0

You want us to get rid of Skrtel and Johnson and bring in Montoya. Well I think we should keep Johnson and Skrtel, certainly until the end of the season (short of huge offers being made), I like what i've seen of Montoya but i'm sure he'd need some adjustment time to adapt to England/English and the EPL.

We have enough cover at the back. and we have conceded more goals than any other top 7 teams.

Agree0 Disagree0

Elnino speak for yourself mate. I didn't think any of them were going to be any good. Players like that can be replaced by youth and nobody would tell the difference. I bet if you added up their transfer fee and wages you could bring in somebody decent who would actually add quality to the group

Agree0 Disagree0

When everyone was fit we were playing Gerrard Lucas and Henderson with Allen as our only first team cover.
We really need competition for Lucas as a holding midfielder and a box to box midfielder competing with the rest.

Very disappointed today but not surprised. Chelsea stepped up today and really applied some intense pressure as well as the usual Mourhino gamesmanship . Some positives however Sterling was good, that was about it. But remember we have a small squad and so without the luxury resting players, we looked mentally tired and a bit overwhelmed at times today.

Maybe a good reality check for FSG and should hopefully spur efforts on in January. We have played some great stuff this year and I have great memories of our matches and for the first time in decades really looked forward to seeing
what we would do next. Keep the faith

Just like to say well done to Brad Smith. Debut in one of the toughest 5 games of the season, and you should be proud of your performance. Looking forward to watching you play for many years.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

SUCH a tough game to give someone their debut, so I am not going to judge him. It would be nice to see some lads come though the youth set up.

Agree0 Disagree0

Baptism of Fire, usually ends up with someone getting burned. The lad will have learned a lot though and will improve from it.

Games make players, Brad Smith has had about half an hour in one game so we can't expect too much of the player just yet.

Hi eds and reds, I seriously think we should all just move on it is an unwanted result but this is football, with our current squad no one is expecting us to win every game, that would be insane. Plus we have lost to two very good teams.
We will get back up there support the boys that is all. Eds what is your take?

{Ed001's Note - to even feel disappointed after losing to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge is a step forward. We are now challenging the top four, that is a huge step forward from the last few seasons.}

Hi ed001, I agree with you fully, let's hope we now can go on a good run and make it to top four and get the reinforcements we need properly in the summer.
I would just like to thank the owners for the bold step with suarez's contract and that shows their honesty towards Lfc, and the fans. It sends a message we are serious about competing with the big guns when needed and if the right deal comes along.
Nice to speak to you again ed001.

ED01, Spot on ed. We did ok, and we played Chelsea away, we weren't hammered, the only slightest disappointment is we have wasted tonz of money on poor signings.
We need Pace on the wings. Hazzard/Willian.
Salah and another one would be great. Johnosn shouldn't receive his pay cheaque.

Agree0 Disagree0

So does sterling not give us pace on the wing then? I do agree about Johnson though - awful yesterday. But whilst we lost there were two shocking penalty decisions - had we got these this is a game we could have won, as I thought we were pretty decent in the second half against a Chelsea side who had their game of the season.

Agree0 Disagree0

Should have, could have, ha ha ha, and still below EFC.

Eds, Rodgers clearly isn't a fan of Enrique and to be honest neither are many of us. We need a top left back and if we finish in the top four then why can't we get one? I think Coentrao would be boss as not only would he be a top signing, it would make sense; Madrid tend to rotate him and Marcelo already, and with them apparently sniffing round Cashley surely you couldn't keep three top left backs happy? Cheers lads.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - we are trying to sign one, we only took Cissokho on loan because we couldn't secure one in the summer.}

I wish he wasn't a fan of Johnson instead.

Agree0 Disagree0

I thought we were interested in Ryan Bertrand of Chelsea? Might be wrong but I thought United tried to sign Coentrao

Agree0 Disagree0

I think we need 2 wing backs and a world class CB. I expect BR to go back to 3/5 across the back when Sturridge comes back. The defence isn't good enough

Can not trust Brendon with the transfer kitty, buys 1 half decent and 2.5 rubbish or for the future what about the present. If they are for the future why not have them on the bench.
Coutino plays well on and off but his defending is terrible loses ball far too many times and doesn't like to tackle abit weak in that department and his corners are terrible.
Today 1 st half sterling was poor, Allen couldn't score even if it was laid to him on a plate with no one in goals and the defenders having a cup of tea on the half way line.
Sakho makes far too many mistakes is uneasy with the ball and Agger has no pace so why play him left back.
Mignolet has had a stinker again becoming as bad as Reina with his pathetic simple savable strikes that could of been saved and the results may have seem a lot better. ( truth hurts and i, m hurt)
We need better players to play with Suarez he got no support when he did we looked dangerous.
Thats my rant over but maybe we all got to ahead of ourselves.
I, m glad Brendans love child Allen will not be playing next game he, s a sub at best and what happened to Kelly not being on bench and I would so prefer Suso back in competition for Coutino.
The problem is Brendan sends out most of the so called futures out on loan then says the squad is thin, why send out as you have Man city, Arsenal and Chelsea with bigger squads don't see them sending out 1st team players out apart from lazy useless Moses whose done jack all for us.
We need a quality left back, winger, striker and midfielder.
Also did you see Brendan at the after match interview on match of the day he seem too relaxed and as if Mourinho was still his headmaster.
Ok rant and valid points over.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

you wouldn't trust Rodgers with transfers? ever since he was appointed all we've done is progressed, Mignolet and Sakho are both immense players and will serve us well for years to come.

As for thinking Mourinho is his headmaster, the bloke is just humble and dignified and respects what Mourinho did for him, as he said himself if it wasn't for Mourinho he probably wouldn't be where he's at.

Agree0 Disagree0

There is a committee that is appointed to transfers, it's not solely Rodgers alone. Just for the record.

Agree0 Disagree0

Plymouth Red, you mention Sakho and Mignolet. Can you provide an opinion on Aspas, Borini, Sahin, Assiadi, Illori, Cissoko, Moses and Alberto?

Martinez takes Delaphayo, Barry and Lukaku on loan to Everton. All regular faces in the FIRST team. He buys Mcarthy after selling the mop and is left with change. He eases Berkley into the first team. All incoming players fit for
purpose. They are a far more balanced team than us with partnerships throughout the team.

Agree0 Disagree0

Wow that post sucked. Kind of hard to believe we were top of the league the other day with such rubbish players and manager. Hey Singh?

Love the posts from King Singh and Ozone. At last some sense from Liverpool supporters. What would Shanks have said? Bring back Souness, Rafa, King Kenny and Woy!
Methinks the Koppites are revolting.

Take away the goals Suarez has created out of nothing and that will give a truer reflection of where we are at & it isn't top 4.

The post made by Ozone makes sense. I too would like to see someone signing for first team, some more signings like Coutinho and Sturridge.

30 Dec 2013 13:24:08
Transfers are a numbers game. No manager has ever got every single transfer right. What's encouraging is Rodgers won't play them if he doesn't feel they are strong enough, regardless of whether he signed them or n

Agree0 Disagree0

"Take away the goals Suarez has created out of nothing and that will give a truer reflection of where we are at & it isn't top 4."

Bizarre post.

In that case, let's take away RVP's goals for United last season, and recalculate the points, so that we can identify the real EPL champions.

Oh, and let's do the same with Ronaldo's goals for RM and Messi's goals for Barcelona. We need to see where these clubs really stand.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed 002, why does this not make sense? The points gained from goals he scored & created for himself [and others] are significant. Take him out and we are going to struggle.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Sorry, Jamie Carragher has retired.}

So weird people rate players from other clubs higher than the players we have with no reason.
Maybe Diame has one or two decent games in the whole season and suddenly that makes him a excellent player. Our players play so well in most games just not performing for one or two games and suddenly that makes him a bad bad player.
I just can't believe this

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - Diame was woeful at the weekend, couldn't control the ball or pass it in that game.}

29 Dec 2013 23:54:36
Tough to take that result! Chelsea demolished us in the first half, we improved in the second and were unlucky with the penalty decision but we would have been fortunate with a point in all honesty.

As a team 2 high pressure games in 3 days is a lot and is a factor in the performance I would say, Chelsea had an extra yard in them all game and it showed.

Gutted we didn't get better results and we definetely deserved the win against City but it hasn't worked out so chin up Reds January window to strengthen now and we're still in the mix with Gerrard, Enrique and Sturridge to come back in and with all the top 7/8 bar Utd to play at home.

Fingers crossed Allen and Sakho are not out for long also.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We did not have a big squad unlike others to rotate. Injuries did not help as well. Maybe we could have played Alberto and even Kelly?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool has a plenty big enough squad.}

We are tired now partly because many of our buys or player loans have not worked out, and Rodgers is being forced to name the same team 72 hours apart.

Our play has improved enormously. Now need to improve the scouting and transfers.

Agree0 Disagree0

Is it plenty in comparison to the teams above Liverpool or below (excl Manchester United and Spurs)? I think I made my point.
