Carroll getting stronger,fitter,sharper, run of games now and he will be firing on all cylinders.

redinthehead

What game you watching he is rubish

30 Dec 2011 23:49:46
I've read the posts slating Adam, hendo etc but for me, Johnson is garbage. Downing had to second guess what he was doing, he can't defend and his passing is poor. He can attack but is slow to recover, I'm sure KK and SC know this and are looking to replace when the time is right.
Ultra red

Couldn't disagree more. Johnson is excellent going fwd and seems to have improved his defending a lot.

Chuck Norris {Ed001's Note - when was he excellent? Watch the game again, he had a poor game, he can do better than that, he has the quality but tonight it went missing.}

Johnson will stay at lfc until summer of that I am sure , he is never rubish and I personally think this is his best season in an lfc shirt. I feel he will be sold in summer as a saleable asset due to the fact the young lads such as Kelly and Flannaggan are to good to be just squad members and need to be part of the team

30 Dec 2011 23:47:16
Ed, I could never just sit there and watch 1 players game, like you do with Johnson! I would just get really bored! Fair play!

And I'm not just saying this, bit there was something missing from a few LFC games in the last year for me (since we beat Chelsea 2-0 under Roy), where I didn't feel anything after a shut result, but for some reason, it came back tonight! YNWA {Ed001's Note - that's the way I always watch games, too much time hanging round with scouts that is. It does really change your perspective when you do it, I learnt to love Hamann purely due to it.}

Try watching Henderson Ed, I did tonight. Was actually shocked (besides the assist which was decent). Lad is so nervous its scary. Spearing MOTM for me.

Chuck Norris {Ed001's Note - he does look very short of confidence.}

Until tonight I thought I was the only person that did this lol. Nice to see I'm not alone. It really does change your opinion on players.

with suarez comin back in he should start upfront with carroll with gerrard bellamy adam and downing across the midfield with the same back four

reina

johnson skrtel agger enrique

bellamy gerrard adam downing

suarez carroll

subs: doni, kelly, carragher, maxi, henderson, spearing, kuyt

Only problem would be the gapping hole in midfield because the lack of a defensive midfielder. Gerrard is a creative midfielder and Adam can't tackle efficiently so for me it would be Adam or Gerrard and Gerrard wins that all day long.

Team vs Man City

Reina

Johnson Skrtel Agger Enrique

Bellamy Gerrard Adam Downing

Suarez Carroll

Adam is rubbish, prefer spearing with stevie g, and suarez and kuyt up front.

neostat

Adam is a pile of carp hendo to start.
played million times better with stevie and Adam looked tired and was awful in the last 4/5 games
However, it wouldn't surprise me If stevie started on the bench again, protection and all that

30 Dec 2011 23:43:32
Just how brilliant is Gerrard?

Still needs replacing - I don't think so?

I woooonder could Mousa Sissoko do that?

Hmmmmmmm

It looks like the best midfielder in the world is back
Hopefully for 7 or 8 more years if Giggs can play till he's 40 why not Gerrard (after all Gerrard has a more natural athletic body than giggs).

Nothing better in football than watching Stevie

Well done to the boys everyone played well

Although I'm happy we got the 3 points 2day I must say I'm quite disappointed that after all the money we spent we still had to rely on stevie g

So how much did Bellamy cost? Did he get the first 2? Did newcastle actually score a goal? I think it was a gr8 team performance, even without Suarez!

Yes newcastle did score a goal.. hence the 1 in 3-1..

No they didnt it was an own goal by agger so technically newcastle didnt score a goal

The difference between victory and defeat/draw?

Steven Gerrard

Seeing him on the pitch tonight made me realise just how good...he makes everybody look with his excellent passing and constant pressing forward. No wonder Torres scored so many goals playing in front of him. With a match fit Gerrard, Carroll will bang them in.

With a match fit Gerrard, how many will Torres score on his return

30 Dec 2011 23:34:35
Is the plan with Kelly to eventually move him back to CB. I know he came up as one but he has impressed at RB and would provide a better option to Johnson.

30 Dec 2011 23:32:35
Ed, how did you think Carroll played? I thought he played well! {Ed001's Note - I think he worked well, could have done with a goal though.}

Sorry Ed001 but you disappoint me, Carroll was woeful

Chris in Tamworth {Ed001's Note - you mean like his lovely round the corner pass? Was that woeful? He needed a goal, his touch wasn't always the best, but he was far from woeful.}

I taught caroll was rubish again if it wasnt for stevie we would of drawn again we need stevie fit for rest of season

To unnamed poster, I think Bellamy was one of the main catalysts for the game tonight, yes Gerrard upped us a bit but we were stable without him on the pitch as well. Also, even towards the end of the match Carroll was chasing his own flick-ons and still chasing down opposition players - he played well.

Alex

"His lovely round the corner pass"? Is that it? Is that the best argument you can make for him?
I'll say it again, woeful
Slow across the ground, went down too easy, heading was poor, flick ons were poor, hold up play was poor, positioning was poor, always on his heels, constant criticising of his teammates. If you've got the time and inclination I'll sit down with you and rewatch the whole match and I'll prove it to you, it was a woeful display!

Chris in Tamworth {Ed001's Note - I made one point, you are just talking crap now. He outpaced Coloccini every single time, so hardly slow across the ground. His hold up play wasn't the best, his positioning was fine, but, until Gerrard came on, no decent service went to him. Also there was a lack of bodies in the box, which means that he was covered by plenty of defenders, giving him no chance. He had a far from woeful game, but you had made up your mind long ago, so it will make no difference what he does.}

No Ed you are talking crap, how can you accuse me of having made my mind up long ago and therefore nothing he did would be good enough when you are doing exactly the same in his favour? You need to see what's actually going on with him. Take me up on my offer to watch the game with me, if I can't prove to you he was poor I'll donate £100 to a charity of your choice.

Chris in Tamworth {Ed001's Note - how am I doing the same? I never rated the lad, I still don't think he was the right choice, but I am giving him a chance to prove me wrong. You on the other hand are talking nonsense about him being slow, despite him outpacing the opposing centre back a few times. I didn't see him go down, despite Williamson being all over him and not getting decisions, when he could easily have done so. I am also agreeing his hold up play wasn't the best, whereas you are refusing to accept anything other than your blinkered viewpoint. Instead of just slagging him off because you don't like him, try giving him a chance.}

Funnily enough, I thought he did many good things tonight. However his first touch will always let him down and at the top level, it is so crucial.

Ash

Well said ed defo not woeful
JJ blackpool

He did go down easily under very little pressure on several occasions, also after your comment about him outpacing Coloccini I switched sky 1 on to watch the game yet again admittedly they were 33 minutes in and it's now only on 70 minutes but how many times do you think he has outpaced Collocini? Not once. I'll let you know how many times he does it in the last 20 but I think I already know the answer
You are right that I've never fancied him but of course I've wanted him to bag 20 goals this season because success for the team is all that matters but when he doesn't do it, and he isn't doing it, I'm going to question him. I didn't criticise him in the last game because although I didn't think he played very well I thought I saw some improvement in his attitude and effort unfortunately tonight I've seen him criticise several different team mates (I'm not surprised they looked amazed that he had the brass neck to criticise them considering how badly he was playing) I've seen him do it earlier in the season as well to Suarez especially. I think he's a wrong un and I think he may end up in big trouble at the club.

Chris in Tamworth {Ed001's Note - I find it amazing you are complaining about him criticising his team mates, that is just a sign of his desire to do well. I would be shocked if he wasn't complaining when a ball wasn't placed right for him, even if it went to someone else, when a goal doesn't result. He is a striker after all, he should want the ball to go to him, he should want it put on a plate for him to finish.}

Ok Ed I don't want to turn this into a row between us because you know I love ya so let's agree to disagree. I still wish we could get Llorente (maybe we agree on that one) but I'd settle for De Jong or Bent. Maybe if Carroll dropped down the striker pecking order a place or two the pressure would be off and he could blossom under KK

Chris in Tamworth {Ed005's Note -Its not about pressure. Its about getting good service into him, and him gaining confidence by goals and getting a run of games. PS: He wasn't woeful tonight, anyone who watched the game would see he wasn't woeful. But some people are only convinced when they see Zidane turns and cross-overs for 90mins, like a Youtube video.}

Nice to see somebody who dosn't rate Carroll still give him some support! Personally im impressed as the boy is my age! Agree that he;s far from what you want after spending that much money,but try and imagine the pressure! Before you judge someone etc etc! Well played Ed,True supporter! WelshBoy Dave

30 Dec 2011 23:32:03
Good performance from the lads today and a good all round performance from everyone.
Our back 4 were solid again, johnson showed what a great threat he has going forward and is seemingly improving defensively. Agger and Skrtel did a great job of keeping Demba Ba quiet (which in itself is a hefty task) and what about Skrtel's goal-line clearance, it was class! Enrique also looked superb the way he was strong enough to deal with Obertan and Vuckic, while ignoring the jeering he got from the Toon fans.
We looked pretty dynamic in midfield with Spearing putting in a good strong performance. Henderson looks to be developing well as the season goes along, he seems to be linking up with players better. Downing showed a bit more willingness to take on defenders and beat them to the byline, his crosses were still slightly hit and miss but he's improving. Is it me or does he seem to play better when he is cutting in on right? Adam I think needs a bit of a rest. I think he's played in all of the Liverpool matches this season (if I remember correctly) and seems to be fading in the last few matches. I think he needs a brief rest. Stevie looked class, he made a few astray passes but looked on the ball and provided Carroll superbly.
Carroll looked fitter than usual and looked to close down opposition faster. He had a few heavy touches but I think will relish the fact that Stevie is back, because he was provided with more goal-scoring opportunities.
Bellamy had a great match and took the opportunities well. Both goals were great belters with good placement. I've gotta say it's great that we brought him back to Anfield on a free transfer.
I think we should great resilience to bounce back from the Blackurn game. We looked sharp and we could have scored many more. Imagine the scoreline if Cabaye would have been rightly sent off for his menacing tackle on Spearing. I would love to see us play with Lucas, Suarez, Gerrard, Carroll, Maxi and Bellamy all fit with our usual back 4.

After the summer signings I was hopeful but always feared it would take longer than most people thought for virtually half a team to bed in and gel.

Enrique - class right from the off.

Adam - overall very disappointed with him. Where are the dangerous corners and free kicks that we saw at Blackpool? Not Liverpool standard I'm afraid. The difference was unbelievable once he was subbed by Gerrard. It was almost the equivalent of Kevin Webster being replaced by Sir Laurence Olivier in the lead role of Macbeth.

Henderson - up and down. Some good moments, some poor. However, I've seen enough to know there's a decent player in there. Will it come out on a regular basis with more experience or will he be another Ryan Babel (or Russell Brand) where he keeps all the talent to himself.

Downing - a massive disappointment to me. Here is a player at his peak agewise but he just hasn't delivered. I read some posts tonight that he played well. Do these people actually know what playing well means? His end product is woeful. He was bought to supply crosses to Carroll. It took a man coming back from 12 months injury to show him how to do it.

I'm beginning to fear that some of these signings are the playing equivalent of Roy Hodgson. I actually think the club is too big for them - just like it was with poor old Roy. I honestly hope they prove me wrong but everytime I see Downing hit the first man with a cross or knock it in to nobody in particular, or see Adam hit a long hopeful ball that loses possession I fear the worst.

Kenny should sit them all down tomorrow at Melwood and show them a DVD of the last half hour. He should tell them 'This is how to cross a ball!' Never mind Johnson and Downing passing back and forth to each other, then sending in an aimless cross. Gerrard actually looks up and picks out a man with his cross, which is what Carroll needs. It's unbelievable that there is nobody else playing at the club that can do this. After they've watched the DVD he should have them out on the training pitch, practicing similar crosses, with nobody allowed off to their New Yers Eve parties until they've delivered 3 beauties on the bounce. If Carroll has to stay behind to get on the end of them all, it might keep him off the piss tomorrow night as well.

redmersey

Good post REDMERSEY!

ACHILLES.

Again Redmersey mate, just like Chris's post below i totally agree with your assessment. Time for people's heads to start ruling their hearts. we all want our boys to do their best but 18 games in only Enrique, Bellers & to a lesser degree Hendo are going to cope with playing for LFC, sadly some look good at lesser clubs but don't have the character to perform consistently on the biggest stages.
Cheers,,
ALB

Even better post ANDRE LESLEY BOAS lol

ACHILLES.

I agree except...

Downing can come good... he's got a good accurate cross but just needs to get his head up and get it in sooner. Plus, he got pace which will always put a defence on the back foot and create space. Downing has quality that is good enough for top premiership team...

Carroll - looked a different prospect with Gerrard. He should have acored two and when confidence returns, he'll start putting his chances away.

Let's see what happens after they've watched the DVD!!

30 Dec 2011 23:25:47
I've just finished watching the game for the second time and reading the posts I am absolutely staggered by the amount of people who thought Carroll played well.
I have layer off the bloke for ages because I was told he should be given time but I'm sorry that was one of the worst displays of forward play I think I have ever seen.
Dirk Kuyt (who has had an up and down season) showed more desire, composure, ability and skill in the first 2 minutes that he was on than Carroll did in 90.
Apart from the total lack of ability from Carroll I also saw a few very unpleasant reactions to his teammates and I would like to bet that he's a bad apple. Anyone who thinks he played well knows absolutely nowt!

Chris in Tamworth

I thought he did ok Chris, not great but can't expect him to perform miracles with poor balls given to him. His touch etc was rusty and he's low on confidence but when stevie came in he lifted his head and made some good contributions to play.
I saw him have a pop at Enrique as he wanted the ball to his head, but these squabbles always happen especially if you are desperate for a goal.
I understand your post, but feel for the lad and want him to succeed.
Ultra red

Totally agree with everything you have said Chris, Carroll will NEVER cut the mustard at Anfield. Carroll seems to go around the pitch having a go at his fellow team players when they don't put it on a plate for him, and yet when Stevie.G puts 2 beautiful crosses on a plate for him Carroll hits the cross bar or loses control at the last minute.

Simply not good enough, prima doña with a acid house hair cut... Jog on!!

The Grand wizard...

Chris I have to agree entirely mate. It's time to recognise that the emperor's in the nuddy and not wearing an Armani suit. Kuyt's been harshly treated and Kenny is doing the classic I bought them so they're playing with, Adam, Hendo & Downing at the expense of Maxi, Kuyt and Bellers to a lesser degree. Admittedly he hasn't done that with Carroll which suggests to me he's no good & I agree he directed some poor stuff toward Enrique especially near the end. I have to say Kelly is unfortunate to miss out to Johnson as well.
I posted similar comments earlier Chris and I don't like to be critical of our own but someone's made a very expensive error there and no amount of support for him will give him talent. I wanted him to score tonight but at 43 I reckon there's hope for me yet mate! All the best Chris.....ALB

That's a very arrogant attitude Chris & i'm surprised with you on that tbh.
People are entitled to their opinions including you.
Doesn't mean they know nothing about football.
It's the opinions that make the game great sometimes Chris.
Wonder if this was the real Chris as this post sounds a little bitter unlike the normal posts.
Maybe i'm just reading it wrong?!

I was at the game today and concentrated on watching Carroll movement and position, few have told me he was lazy, but today he was far from, he worked hard, running and positioning, but he has a very bad first touch (in any part of the body), he works hard to make his runs and make himself available but most of these runs are to the wrong position , he is not very good at reading the game and anticipating where the ball will end up , I found this very surprising , because he was very good at newcastle 12 months ago, and big part of his success was due to being at the right place at the right time.
He needs to learn a lot and hopefully Gerrard being there can make things easier for him.
Roy

Sorry if my post sounded as if I was being "all knowing" when I'm certainly far from that but I'm just so amazed that people think Carroll played well! I watched the game twice just to be sure with myself that I wasn't being over critical and it didn't look any better the second time.
Again, sorry if I made it sound arrogant

Chris in Tamworth

Hi Roy, someone posted the other day that Newcastle converted Carroll from a left back to. Forward late in his teenage development (i think U18's). This would explain a lot as he appears clueles at when to attack the penno spot and 6 yard box. He must have gotten on the end of about 4 of 40 crosses we've flashed across the 6 yard box in the last 2 games, thank the lord the first one fell to Bellers, then again it needed a forwards intelligence to be where Bellers poped up so no danger of Andy being there! - ALB

D'you know what Chris I've come to the conclusion that just coz KK signed him people are going to wait forever for him to do something. If Wroy had signed him those same people would have echoed what you are saying now mate....ALB

I think you could have said the same for Torres at times, but when he got his chance he put it in the back of the net. Unfortunately Carroll seems to hit the woodwork.
With Gerrard back I think he'll start knocking them in!

Don't worry about it Chris mate, as i said i probably read the post wrong!

Just goes to show how s**t adam is. he played 60 mins in mid even with spearing behind him and done nothing, even his dead ball effets were woefull. a half fit gerrard comes on for 30 mins and nearly gets 3 assists and scores a goal.

This has a double take, one of them is sub'n Adam with Gerrard, Kennys saying that Gerrard is the standard Adam has to reach, wether it works or not is another issue!

WOW ... All the people giving Downing stick . I thought he gave his all as usual and offered something great going forward . Bizarrely , he reminds me of Dean Saunders for effort and directness . I think there are few foreign wingers who would be topping his energy at this stage .

And Jordan Henderson , he is learning how to win a game in the midfield . To control the match and beat the opposition all over the pitch is going to take him a little more time ... we can afford him that , surely .

Qwerty

The rewflo playercam was on Stuart today ( I usually try just watching one player to see all of what they do not just when they have the ball) and I thought he had an average game at best.

Pros
-------------
Didnt lose possession often.
Quite a high dribble completion rate.
Always ready to shoot.
High Energy

cons
-----------
Low Crossing accuracy
Low Amount of crosses
Most passing was passive instead of aggressive.
Cutting onto his strong foot was predictable and often.

For me he needs to either be switched to the left flank and told to head for the touchline and whip crosses in or he needs to be told to use his right foot and whip crosses in from the right. Thats just my opinion.

He still shows enough for me to be a first team player but with Carroll needing some good service he needs to play more passes in.

Further Note: Gerrard came on and showed downing exactly what you should do when playing on the RW. When he was on the right Gerrard played as a text book winger, faultless in both invention and execution.

Rewflo

C'mon Qwerty mate, Downing was pretty poor today. I think he could have been more of threat if he had shifted to the left, especially after Gerrard came on. Downing constantly cuts in, and once he is inside, he seems to lack ideas, then goes back to Johnson. There is a lot of effort and energy, but lacking in quality with crosses and decision making in my opinion.

AG

I reckon it is all good , of course he can improve ... to be perfect he will need to improve greatly but , I enjoy watching him and think he will only get better .

Qwerty

Downing has been the biggest disappointment of all the the players that have arrived over the past 12 months......at 28yrs of age and the prem experience he has, his contribution to the team has been woeful......his distribution and decision making in games beggars belief.....he is so easy to read when on the right.....cuts in everytime....now don't wind me up and say its because he left-legged, at £20million he right leg should be for more than just standing on........really hope we get an out and out right winger in the Jan. window.....best for me tonight was Bellamy, Skrytl, and Gerrard.....I do believe Carroll and Liverpool will benefit greatly when Stevie gets back and fully fit for the remainder of the season......AC just needs a bit of a lift, and some goals, hopefully the New Year will improve him and us......remember Crouchie when he first arrived....Happy New Year fellow Reds!!

...and what about Jordan Henderson whose played over 100 first team games - not exactly a novice. I'd pick Downing in my team any day before Henderson, who contributes little to nothing.

Vic

If only that shot he had against Sunderland that hit the bar had gone in I think his season could have been a lot different!

I absolutely fail to see where Bent would fit into the Liverpool team. Of the ball he is lazy, and needs someone to create for him 100 percent of the time.

I think there is absolutely no chance of it happening.

I know I dropped this last August with regards to Jan, but look out for Adam Johnson interest closely.

30 Dec 2011 23:05:52
I'm gonna go against most of the posters on here and say tonight I saw the potential in Andy Carroll when Stevie came on and the shape of the team and passing changed he looked a different player. Watching somebody who knows how to pass and andy was thriving on it when he saw the 1st few crosses come in his movement improved and he started getting to those positions (as he also did for Bellamys free kick the movement took the defenders eye of the ball) His touch I to me just seems down to confidence and lack of game time but with Luis looking at his ban it will come and then when Luis returns with stevie and andy defenders aren't gonna know whats hit em. Stevie pulling the strings with his passes Luis pulling the defenders with his runs and Andy with a bit of confidence picking up the pieces and bullying the defenders left to mark him. Its a shame Gerrard has had a bad year with injuries because we could have had this working months ago and maybe more cementing 4th in the 2nd half instead of fighting for it.Gonna be a great 2nd half to the season and I think we are pefectly placed for the fight and with players hopefully hitting form and really gelling as they have been doing. this year could turn out very nice with some silverware and champions league back where it belongs...
HAPPY NEW YEAR ALL AND A GREAT WAY TO END A YEAR OF TRANSITION AND REBUILDING OF OUR GREAT CLUB BRING ON 2012 THANK YOU KENNY AND FSG. BRIGHT TIMES LAY AHEAD.

The tackle on spearing by cabaye was disgusting and went unpunished, It wouldn't surprise me if them lot at the FA charge spearing for running into cabaye and give him a 3 match ban

Dont say stuff like that, cause if the FA read it then its surely gonna happen

So happy to finally see a nice result. and to end 2011 it's even nicer. Bellamy was fantastic and to get him back on a free was amazing. And as for Stevie, we don't even have to say anything there but just how terrific it is to see him back on the pitch doing what he does best. Can't wait to See Stevie, Bellers and Suarez on the pitch together!
As for big Andy, i think we saw a bit more of him tonight, especially in the second half. If he can become a bit more clinical and our lads put the balls in like Stevie did then he will bag some goals. Happy night tonight. Januarys a big month, lets see what we can do. Keep the faith, we're a better side this season than we were last season!

I think carroll looked a toatly different beast when gerrard come on delivering the quality balls he,s so desperately been craving he look a lot more assured and more likely to score hopefully he can get a goal and kick on from there denied by the woodwork he wiil be a lot better with gerrard feeding him

Gerrard made everyone come to life. Henderson started playing well, Spearing did, Carroll did! What a player! No wonder Zidane said to forget Messi and Ronaldo!

Jack D.

[P.S. People were even doubting him just after he came on to the pitch.....]

Zidane Xavi Iniesta etc also said that Scholes was the player they all admired - the best they had seen

They must have been on the beer when they selected scholes over Gerrard

Ozil is the type of player to play just behind suarez like a david silva role.

Was in my house before and funnily enough, Messi was outside lost in the car, he beeped his horn and when i went outside he asked me the directions to melwood as he is signing a 5 year contract, when i told him he then said ok shortly my friend cristiano ronaldo could also get lost so if he does end up here direct him to melwood also as he will be joining liverpool too! You heard it here first!

Wheres all the Daglish haters now?
The most attacking team in the premiership and unlucky not to be 3rd or even second by now.
Daglish is the best thing to ever happen to us.
Well done Spearing, Bellamy, Downing, Skertle, Agger and off course Gerrard. I must stress the rest of the team played well too.
Don't think we need any new additions in this window but then again Eden Hazard would be a coup

Could be said as the most miss firing team in the premiership. Hopefully that will change with the confidence, guidance and winning atmosphere Mr. Gerrard instills in the team. Hope FT saw that and realises who is still king.

I'm sorry but adam is not fit to lace gerrard's boots and never will be.I know he didn't cost to much,but we need to finding a proper replacement.
Carrol looked a different player once balls where played in correctly.
JAYO

Totally agree. Over the last 3 games Adam has had a total shocker. His first touch and ball control are shoddy, seems to always over run the ball.

He's not the same type of player as Gerrard at all. So he's not Gerrard's replacement, he's more in the Alonso mould and no he's no Xabi either but he does a job. He a good range of passing and hopefully he will complement Gerrard's game nicely. All the best.

KNEE JERK

Can someone explain the obsession with Downing down the right? Anyone?

Chuck Norris

Adam is no where near Gerrards level but the again who is?
Gerrard is a legend and a truelly world class player. Gerrard is unique and arguably Liverpools greatest player.
Adam is a very good player though and it's hugely unfair to both of them to compare.
It's disrespectful to both.
Adam is a good player

Think of it as if you were fighting southpaw Chuck even though you're right handed!
You'll be able to use your strongest limb more often to cause more damage in this position.
Come on Chuck, i'd have thought you of all people would see that?!
Didn't Bruce teach you anything man? :o)

Actually chuck and bruce only ever trained together they never compared notes or fought each other {Ed001's Note - except in Way of the Dragon....}

Erm, ok.
I didn't suggest they ever fought.
They did train together however so Bruce would have thought Chuck a thing or two i'm sure.
But that is a matter of opinion as some would say Bruce was an unproven combat fighter.
Anyway, i wouldn't read too much into it all!

IP MAN would kick both there arses lol

Whilst watching the Liverpool v Newcastle match - why did sky all of a sudden finish off speaking about Eden Hazard he has nothing to do with Liverpool - or do they know something we don't??

Mike W {Ed005's Note - Probably because he's been linked with a move to England and he is Joe Cole's team mate, with Joe being in the studio tonight.}

Im sure i heard joe cole mutter under his breath to redknapp about him coming to liverpool i know i did and theres nothing anyone can say to convince me otherwise lol

Did you not see the marker writing on Joe's teeth when he smiled... it said "LFC HAZARD OK"

I thought it was odd but probs as cole was in the studio and he plays with hazard

i'm really excited at the prospect of seeing Gerrard-Lucas-Luis play together.

Could be something special.

PS ed.. do u think Lucas would come out of his injury the same player that he was?
i've heard that most of the players who damage their ligament lose a bit of pace after recovery ..

S.G.L.

I dont remember Lucas being about pace anyhow

Dont forget Carroll. Gerrard showed everyone what kinda ball should be put for him and how to make him the Andy Carroll we knew!

Jack D.

Most (if not all) players do lose pace after suffering cruciate injuries. However, remeber that

A. He didnt really rely on pace to begin with.

B. Luis Nazario Ronaldo (Brazillian one) came back after cruciate knee injury to claim Ballon d'Or

Rewflo

Already wish I had forgotten Carroll he is no better than Sean Dundee and Andrei Voronin the only diffference is the ridiculous price tag he came with.

Derek

Ruud Van Nistelrooy, had a similar injury but came back probably a better player.

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

The proper Ronaldo was a different class to pretty much any other striker ever to play the game.That ballon D'or was a tribute to the work he put in to get back to his best and the worlds best.
He also tore the mancs apart a few times.LEGEND

In modern football its less of a career threatening injury than it was in the 90's and before. Pre 2000 if you got a cruciate injury more often than not it finished your career.

Great team performance and its even sweeter to come from a goal down like we did against blackburn so the grit and spirit is there.

Without Lucas though spearing is really important to us because he gets stuck in. Cabaye did him as well and should of walked.

I thought our two wide players were superb tonight and Carroll seemed to be a constant threat all game. Stevie g you are a legend and what a cool finish. Jose enrique was class as well as agger.

But my man of the match was skrtel tonight that clearance was so important and could be a season changer. He also kept Ba quiet all game.

GREAT RESULT. Now then time for balance not hysteria. Gerrard good as ever, back 4 solid as ever (typical Johnson mistake apart), Spearing - best ever game for LFC, Kuyt made a big difference too, Bellers - outstanding. Carroll, sadly will never be a success at LFC (similar to Morientes but without the track record), Adam, Hendo, Downing all look scared to express themselves because of the size of our club, Charlie tries but just hasn't got the class, Hendo seemed to gain confidence having Stevie come on and influence the game in a way Charlie cannot. Carroll poor at the end shouting at Enrique when the lad was waiting for Carroll to bust a gut to get in the box, when Carroll never got there Enrique held it up and then tried to drill it in to the back post to Andy who's reaction to a team mate was poor - no wonder he's sporting a black eye. Cannot understand why Maxi with his record loses out to Downing and Kuyt to Carroll however Kenny was spot on with Stevie for Charlie. Definitely two reds missed by the ref when we get sent off for lesser offences. All in great result without Luis, Lucas & only 30 mins of Stevie G. Poor purchases for lots of money by Kenny & Comoli so the next purchase in Jan is a real make or break for me, we need a goalscorer and we need to ship Carroll - if he was any good then he would never have been sub while we struggle to score goals. Fair play to KK he just described 2011 as a work in progress to balance my critic of Carroll then after tonight's evidence if anyone can rescue his Anfield career then it's the crosses and through balls of the one and only Stevie G, the rest is in the lads own feet. Happy New Year to all LFC fans worldwide and of course the fantastic Eds.........YNWA - ALB.

Yeah very balanced review.

JRG

Disagree about andy he looked a real threat when stevie came on and started crossing properly defeders were bricking it when stevie got ball wide.Was really unlucky on a few occasions and a real threat but for lack of confidence and hitting the woodwork again he could have come off with a brace and a whole heap of praise from some of the doubters. I saw tonight how Kenny sees Carroll and with a fit stevie pinging balls in and luis running defenders all over the place OUR big andy is gonna love it centerbacks aren't going to know who to watch andy in the air or luis on the ground. I think in jan we maybe need a right winger and some cover incase of injury but nothing more than maybe some young squad players and 4th is well acheiveable.
Carlos79

Personally think andy did well once gerrard put in the sort of crosses he thrives on and hopefully he can come good with gerrard constantly putting them in for him andy was shouting at jose cos he put the ball in on the floor trying to get it through 3 defenders what cahnce did he have of getting that and the game i was watching carroll was in the box waiting

Put it this way if we had payed £1million pound for andy carroll he would be on the bench hes playing solely cause of his price tag they cant let £35million warm the bench.

He needs his own personal trainer to take him through football fundementals i.e learning to control a ball.

ACHILLES

Carroll had a great game today, so shut it

One good game out of how many?lol and he wasnt even that good.

ACHILLES.

Achilles have you watched Liverpool this season?? Carroll HAS been on the bench for a lot of it. He was playing, not solely, because Luis was suspended and KK felt it was right to play him. Why are you still obsessed with his price tag.ps hope your heel is ok.

Just think to yourself £35million we havnt got the bank balance of man city pal bad investment we could off got cavani or someone off that quality. And the heel is ok thanx for askin lol.

impressed with spearing, did very little wrong all night. at least he has the balls to play ambitious passes unlike jordan 'play it safe' henderson.

Spearing second best player on the pitch after Gerrard today.

I'm sorry, didn't Jordan Henderson get an assist tonight?

JRG

JRG, im not directly criticising jordan; he played well tonight.

i just feel he needs to step up a bit more, very rarely plays the passes that are required to take us forward and often plays it sideways or backwards. he's a young lad, full of energy and should be bouncing all over the midfield.

i do have high hopes for him, hopefully playing next to steve will help {Ed005's Note -

Don't you mean Jordan keeps possession well Henderson.He played a superbly weighted pass for Gerrards goal.He covered a hell of lot of ground throughout the game.I sometimes wonder why some supporters want to pick out players for criticism.Play it safe.is better than giving the ball away in my opinion.I have just got back from the game and I thought the lads yet again worked hard,but this time got their just rewards.

look we bought carroll for 35 mil, its obvious what our priority has to be when gerrard came on, we need another player like him, and i dont mean someone that matchs him skill for skill but someone who can change games, has that presence. when gerrard came on, everyone upped their game and suddenly we were a team. eveyone maybe except surarez doesnt have the presnce and quality to be a leader. just like to say, thought spearing had a great game, he looked up for it. henderson doesnt really offer anything that we couldnt get from our youth or our bench, adam has had some dissapointed games too, i think our goals drought problem lies in our midfeild. great game today.

I agree 100% we need a game changer or 2,
I also think if Carroll chopped off that weight on the back of his head ( his pony tail ) I think he might score.
FSG take note, world class players please.

All Andy needs is is confidence back. The chance he missed when Gerrard crossed and he tried to control it, he would have smashed it first time if his confidence was high.

This is jon henry i was just going to get some vauxhall confrence players in but after reading that you want world class players ill have to try do they have to be world class footballers cos i allready have some world class baseball players i can send over keep lettiong me know what you want and ill try accomodate u

SUBS-
gerrard=just a god in his own right
kuyt=did well good link up play

ACHILLES.

Do you actually know quality full back play when you see it, Johnson and Enrique played very well, the passing and movement and composure around the opposition box is what makes them top draw and better than Newcastle's fullbacks. They played great again IMO. {Ed001's Note - in what way did Johnson show any kind of composure? When he was hoofing it into row Z? Or when he was stood watching a ball dribble past him, an inch away, allowing Guttierez to run 20 yards to take it and attack us?}

Ed, i didn't post the original post but Johnson did play well tonight mate.
You like Kelly at RB obviously but Johnson has played well recently to be fair to him.
You need to lay off Johnson the way you tell others to lay off Carroll.
You can't have your cake & eat it too mate, come on!
Give him a little credit for keeping Santon & Jonas quiet tonight please man. {Ed005's Note - I've never recently said for anyone to lay off Carroll, that may have been another ed. As for Johnson, he has proven to be poor defensivly for Liverpool and his incompetence can put the rest of the team under pressure. Going forward couldn't fault him at times but defensivly not good enough.}

Cheers ed001 for agreeing and to the other guy if u think glen johnson is a quality fullback then your mistaken his job is to defend stop crosses from going into the box and track runners but he cant even do that hes ok at going forward thats about it next time pay close attention to glen johnsons game pal.

ACHILLES.

I was referring to Ed001 mate.
Johnson is part of a very good back 4 unit!
Yes he makes mistakes but he is playing well CURRENTLY is my point so why stop a good thing!
If he loses form - Kelly is a more than able replacement who i think will have a great LFC career.
Looks like a fantastic player in every match i've seen.
Slightly concerned with his hamstrings though!
Cheers Ed. {Ed001's Note - personally I feel the defence is playing well in spite of Johnson, not because. Yes, I do prefer Kelly, because he is a much better player, in my opinion. Tonight I made a point of watching Johnson constantly, rather than just the match, and he was poor. I spent most of the time screaming at him to wake up.}

When was Johnson last at fault for a goal can anyone remember?
Can't remember myself!

That's how i felt about Henderson for the first half mate!
Thought he was poor to say the least but picked it up in the second half a little.
Johnson did no more wrong than the rest.
He is part of a back four playing well so we should be happy.
If City cut us open down the right next week then Kelly will i imagine get his chance then.
I too am a big fan of Kelly but right now we need to give Glen our support as much as we should support Andy.

I do this often ed. Especially when I re-watch the game the following day. It's how I came to my conclusion about Carroll.

More people should try it. Today I was watching Downing. Average game for me, not enough crosses but needs to play on left to be a winger. My opinion.

rewflo {Ed001's Note - I always pick a player to watch when I watch a match. I wanted to find reasons to be glad of Johnson, knowing that Newcastle were likely to give him space to attack, which they did. But I found myself getting frustrated, especially with his crossing, which is woeful at best.}

Agger and skrtel are lookin solid at the back but even them look shakey under pressure. And the reason for everyone saying johnson is playin good its cause were lookin so good attacking you will see what me and ed mean about johnson when we play man city and there attacking with quality johnson wont know what to do.

ACHILLES.

If we get a clean sheet against City you'll still find something to moan about Johnson.
He's not perfect (who is?!) & is in a no win situation vs City.
They normally score goals for fun, but we'll see!
Maybe you should just trust Kenny's judgement with Johnson & support our players.
This is classic double standards imo.
Support Carroll blindly yet he keeps failing, but criticising Johnson even though he is part of a 4 man team of defenders playing well together.
If he had cleared that ball off the line tonight like Skrtel did you'd still probably blame him for something like playing the attacker onside.
Come on guys.
Stop the double standards! {Ed001's Note - give it a rest, if you don't like my opinion go elsewhere. I do not support anyone blindly, so please stop your whining.}

I'll have Johnson on RewfloCam in next match and see what I think when really paying close attention to him lol.

Rewflo {Ed001's Note - hopefully he will have a stormer against City, might just be that he fell asleep because it was so easy for him tonight.}

Not whining, but entitled to an opinion like you & everyone else.
Why so defensive?
Relax Ed mate!
So just because i don't like your opinion i should jog onto another site or whatever even though i've not been even slightly abusive / disrespectful?
I know nothing about football i suppose just because i disagree with your opinion?
Seriously?!
I'll just agree with everything you say so from now on should I?
Come on Ed..... {Ed001's Note - did I say you have to agree with me? It wasn't the difference in opinion I have a problem with, it's your utter rubbish about me blindly supporting. I try and provide balance, if one post is slagging off a player, I will point out the good points. It is very rare I just give a full appraisal, but when I do I try and be fair and point out the downside as well as the good, even when I know the person in question. I am just sick of negative posts from fools who do nothing but slag off particular players and never see any good in them no matter what they do.}

When was Johnson last at fault for a goal can anyone remember?

-----------------------------------

gave away a stupid penalty against Blackpool last season.

dmedly

I was talking generally Ed, not JUST about your comments in reference to Carroll & Johnson.
Can you honestly say you've not gone easier on either player by comparison to the other recently?
You, me, or other fans sticking by Andy while he is playing poorly / unable to hit the net is a fantastic showing of support & loyalty but then going off in the other direction with Johnson criticising him endlessly while he is playing fairly well as part of a team of 4 defenders playing fairly well is double standards IN MY OPINION.
I'm entitled to my opinion aren't I?
Lets say Johnson & Carroll both play equally poorly against Man City next week, we lose & Andy doesn't score, who will you or others reading your posts criticise first i wonder?
I'll bet Johnson.
My point is, give them both equal support / criticism.
Kenny knows better than all of us on here together & he obviously sees something in Johnson.
Maybe he (Glen) has a bad attitude but we hear nothing from Kenny on it so give the lad the benefit of the doubt support wise i implore you as the editor who most Liverpool fans listen to on here.
It might prove to be a bit of positive thinking working in our favour who knows?!
When was Johnson glaringly last at fault for a goal by the way?
Bet it's further back than when Carroll last scored?!
I'm done with this now as i'm sure you've made your mind up permanently which is your right & who am i to interfere with it?!
I'll respect your opinion, just wish you'd respect mine.
Good night. {Ed001's Note - I am sorry but the difference is that Johnson has clearly got the ability to do better, but he is not using it. That is far worse than someone who is struggling but trying. So yes, I will be harsher on Johnson, he needs to wake up, because at the moment he is playing in place of a better player. Whereas Carroll is not keeping anyone out of the team, Suarez is always ahead of him, Kuyt is not playing well when he starts games. Carroll is making a clear effort to work at his game and during matches, can anyone say the same of Johnson? He is still making the same silly mistakes, just because they haven't led to goals doesn't mean he is not making them. He was asleep today when one pass was rolled across to him, luckily Newcastle never capitalised, but better sides will. It is the same dozing off in games that he has always done, it is simply not good enough for an experienced international player being paid obscene wages. Carroll on the other hand is a young lad learning the game.}

A full season ago!
Oh my god, sell him!
Sell him now!
Terrible defender...not!

You never stop learning the game Ed.
So you do use unbalanced criticism then as you said you're harsher on Johnson!
Hardly fair is it mate?!
In that case you'll need to be extremely harsh on Reina the next time an error from him costs a goal as he's older than Johnson if you're using that formula?!
What do you make of Downing then?
He is about the same age as Glen & is playing poor enough in his main role (attacking), he hasn't a single goal / assist yet this season which is a poor stat at the half way mark.
He might be playing right wing mainly but he's well able for over there as he proved with Villa - Johnson filled in at left back at the end of last season with minimum fuss / errors so that's no excuse really.
You (i'm guessing) don't like Johnson for one or another reason so that's this debate done with really.
Let's just agree to disagree if that's the case.
And because i really gotta go to bed before i get divorced. {Ed001's Note - that makes no sense. You are not bothering to read what I have said at all. I am done with it. No point in having a discussion with someone who doesn't even read your side of the argument at all.}

Didn't Johnson nearly bust a gut up & down the touchline all night by the way?!
Including when he turned over his ankle near the end as he was trying so hard to chase a ball that was a lost cause?!
Check opta stats to see who ran the most last night if it's available.
I'd guess Johnson ran more distance than Carroll but i stand to be corrected maybe?! {Ed001's Note - I never criticised his work rate. Saying he falls asleep, his passing was poor and his crossing is abysmal is not saying he didn't get forward a lot. But he had all the time in the world, plenty of space and provided little. For a player of his ability that is not good enough.}

Well if it's not his work rate then at least he's trying.
Maybe he has a problem with concentration?
That's not something he can work on but his concentration & form seems good to me currently anyway.
In any case you have a very good opportunity of being proven right when we play City three times in quick succession.
We'll see how far our defence has come in the last 12 months in those games.
We'll be asked all sorts of questions defensively which won't be easy to stop.
I'll just ignore your attempt to make me out to not read your posts.
If you read my posts properly you'd see that I in fact have pointed out some of the things you have said in your posts that i disagree with which should surely tell you that I do read your posts.
Look Ed, i'm not trying to do anything other than have a debate but i fear you think i'm having a go at you / other Johnson haters (for the want of a better word).
That, let me assure you is not the case.
I don't know how you came to the conclusion that i'm not making sense as i'm just pretty much saying you need to be consistent with your criticism of players if you're basing it on age, experience, awareness, not using skills to maximum etc.
How is that nonsense?
You gave me your basis of a formula for criticism of players & i asked you to be consistent as you're opinion is respected by LFC fans on here, me included (some take everything you say as gospel) so i don't think it's helpful to be inconsistent.
Look, if this debate has gone too far, just don't post this particular post from me & we'll leave it as it is.
I enjoyed the debate up until when you seemed to take things up wrong about an hour ago.
Johnson & Carroll are both LFC players & we as LFC fans need to support both!
Surely we can agree on that lol?!
I still love you lol! :o) {Ed001's Note - and I have pointed out that I can't be fair in my criticism as I am trying to provide balance. If one post just points out Carroll's weakpoints and refuses to mention any of his strengths, then I will point out his strengths. Johnson I am criticising because he clearly is not improving, he still can't cross, his passing is still wayward, his concentration is lacking, his shooting is embarrassing and he should be at his peak! It is not good enough, especially when he showed last season at left back how much more he can offer. He is better than that and he needs to buck up his ideas and earn his ridiculous salary. Carroll, on the other hand, is still a young lad learning the game, as such he needs to be given time to adapt and support. I don't hate Johnson, I just think he is not performing to the level he himself has set. Last season is the benchmark he has to aim to reach, unfortunately, for whatever reason, he is not there, or even close to it this season.}

well good game, thought it was hit and miss for a while though. thought carrol had a decent game, just needs confidence and have downing and bellers on the right sides firing crosses in would help. hendo, well good player worked hard tonight, spearo showed a bit of quality tonhight too - lucas must have rubbed off on him, skittle, for all his wrong positioning(which hasn't been that much recently) was brilliant tonight as was agger altho wasn't impresed he let ba through on goal. enrique his usual good self as was johnson. to be honest the only person i wasn't impressed with was adam. he still needs too much time on the ball. if he speeds his reactions just a tad more he will be brilliant for us. over all a decent performance. what do you think eds?
huddz red {Ed001's Note - Adam looked tired for me, I could see why he came off. Johnson was poor, he gave the ball away a fair bit and was caught ball watching when a pass went his way a few times. Offered little going forward, apart from losing the ball. The rest had good games, except Reina, who had nothing to do to judge his performance.}

Sort of agree with you there ed. I started the season being critical of Adam and he won me over but he has dipped in last 3 games. With Gerrard coming back I think its a good time for Adam to get a rest.

Johnson won most of our set pieces down the right so I think to say he didnt offer anything forward is slightly unfair.

Rewflo {Ed001's Note - but he did nothing other than that, he gifted Newcastle a chance because of his ball watching. His forward runs usually ended up with the ball nowhere near the goal. At one point, he had time and space on the edge of our half following a set piece, he managed to miss every player on the pitch with his pass by at least 20 yards.}

Ed001 did downing have a good game for you? Too me he was the worst player on the pitch, never commits fully to a tackle and for all the time he gets on the ball never really looks like doing anything threatening in the final third! Generally just gives the ball away...he's in very poor form imo

Fair point. touche ed.

How many games would Suarez be banned for if he did the thing Collicini (wrong spelling) did to Bellamy?!
Lets see now how the FA act against that UFC assault!
The ref & linesman need questioning on their performance in reference to that incident & Cabaye on Spearing!
Sickening!

Be fair spearing did fly into that tackle and there was no malice on Cabaye's part in my opinion.

the Coloccini was a bad decision. If the FA dont give him an 8 game ban they are effectively saying that using marginally racist terminology is worse than intentional violent conduct.

It was a two feet off the floor challenge - an automatic red card according to the rules.

JRG

The Cabaye tackle was a leg breaker though!
Seen reds for far far less!
Could easily have caused a fractured shin bone.

It was deffo a red if that wolves player that got sent off against arsenal was a red that was easily the same

One cannot be judged against another. You have to judge each challenge separately. Yes there is a guide but it is only a guide.

Couple of years ago they stated that all tackles from behind would be a red card, all refs started handing out red cards all the time and everyone went mental saying not every challenge from behind is a red card offense. Now they are judging them individually and you're all saying you want the last decision to influence the next one.

Reina - had nothing to do, seriously i don't think they had one shot on target that didn't deflect of Agger

Enrique - work hard did well

Johnson - Yet again a good performance

Agger - Unlucky for first goal, but was solid

Skrtel - best game i have ever seen him play, Ba got nothing off him and wonder save to boot

Hendo - played very well, seems to be the pivot of the team

Downing - a very good game today made some good runs, got greedy once but I have no problem with that

Bellamy - God bless you son

Gerrard - is nothing less than pure magic, i forgot just how amazing he was

Adam - Steady game nothing wrong nothing specatculer

Spearing - I would hate to go into a 50/50 with this boy pure determination

Carroll - Flumped one chance but overall I must say he didn't do that bad at all, I mean he hit the crossbar again the unlucky sod

Kuyt - when you thought the got a rest on comes the Dirk

Purely a great game -McMenemy {Ed001's Note - did you really think Johnson played well? I was disappointed with him, yet again.}

I thought johnson and adam were poor today but those 3 points were vastly needed to keep us there ! bring on the mancs we were unlucky at home to em nothing to fear just play to win and i along with all fans will settle for that no sitting back cost that will cost us

Agree with ed there, all was right apart from johnson great post overall though

Ed johnson did ok, but his shooting and creating chances today was a bit awful, he always seems to get past a player and mess it up {Ed005's Note - Johnson was poor going forward, and that is his best point. Can't wait to see him leave and see Kelly get his RB place.}

U messing ed Johnson was fantastic tonight what disappointed you ? {Ed005's Note - Not just tonight but overall, his defending is nothing short of poor. He won't play anywhere else but RB because of his poor attitude.}

Johnson is a very good attacker but poor at the back. Want him to play on the wing myself and Kelly at right back

Johnson was useless - average defending and really poor crossing. Bellamy, Downing and Carroll all put in good shifts. Certainly shuts up the whingers who say we have no creativity without Suarez

cozinoz

I thought Johnson was good going forward and kept their defense occupied. If and when he does go who do you think we will sell him to...surely not to our rivals cuz I can see Arsenal and Spurs signing him.

GuvTOB

Johnson can't be too bad seen as he is part of the best defence in the league...

Do the Ed's know him personally and have additional reasons for not liking him?

Chuck Norris {Ed005's Note - Us having the best defence certainly has got nothing to do with Johnson's great defensive ability. Whilst I acknowledge that Johnson's defending has improved in the last year he is still not good enough at the back. Too many people are blinded by his attacking ability and fail to realise his poor defending at times.}

I don't see a lot of poor defending anymore from him 005, and his going fwd is class. Funnily enough Enrique's going fwd disappoints me at times and he can also get caught out of position but I don't hear any clamour for Robinson to start ahead of him. Guess I just like Glen and appreciate he has worked on his defensive game.

To be honest, I don't think that this was an outstanding performance in comparison to our other matches at anfield where we dropped unnecessary points. However, i'm delighted at the fact that we took our chances. If we keep doing so, we can put up a good fight for that coveted CL spot.

Anyway, it could have been 4 or 5. Pity Carroll hit the woodwork and downing's 40 yard chip went just over. The crossbar curse lingers on.

It's good to see Stevie g back too. Our attack had much more bite when he came on. Hopefully, he can stay injury free for the 2nd half of the season.

Sorry, forgot to sign my post. Have a Happy New Year Eds. Shout out from Singapore. Keep up the good work =)

I'm usually happy with any type of win but 3 goals and a stevie who looks like he could be soon back to his best is just fantastic.

What a player he is.

Now imagine if we had no suspensions or injuries n lucas and suarez had been playing too... Woohoo!

Anyway, 3points in the bag and carroll had a decent game.

I have no complaints but i'm sure redturk does. Haha

Lay Off Andy...you can't fault him for hitting the bar/post three or four times this season. He needs a bit of luck and he'll prove you doubters wrong.

Decent performance, Gerrard definitley turned match but Skrtel fantastic clearance and Bellamy man of the match. Better from Caroll but still needs improvement.

Hope Bellamy and Gerrard available for City.

Well, what a twelve months that was. Starting it off with the club in turmoil, near the relegation zone, no confidence in the squad at all. End it with us being level on points with 4th placed Chelsea, going into 2012 with real optimism. Let us reflect on where the club could have been, and be grateful we still have a club to support. We have walked through the storm, coming out with our head held high.

I think Gerrard has proven tonight that if you give Carroll the service he will put the headers in.

Rewflo

Which one did he put in I MUST HAVE MISSSED IT,or was it him that missed again.

Derek

Spot-on Rewflo - Gerrard was on for 5-minutes and set Carroll up with two chances. One he should have controlled better and the other he put against the bar. If Carroll gets service like that for a whole game then the goals will come.

JRG

Did I miss sumthin ? No, didn't think so - that was Carrol

Corrrect Rewflo, if only the moaners and whinges could see that. All the best.

KNEE JERK

I think Gerrard has proven he is still in the top 3 crossers of the ball in the league.

He didn't score though!
So how did you come to that conclusion based on tonights game?
I want Carroll to succeed for us as much as the next guy but he still clearly needs more time!
He's closer to getting it right than Henderson though by the looks of it, who seems to be completely shot of confidence & ideas.
Any point(s) as Eastlands will be a great result but probably put Utd. on top.
Yuk!!!!!

I didnt mean that he will put headers in the net today. He got more headers on target when Gerrard came on than the entire team did all match.

I simply meant give him service. Downing and Henderson have not really given him that, not their fault as they are both often playing out of position.

You watch if we sign a decent crosser how many headers Carroll will win and score. Believe me anyone on here will tell you that for the first 3 months of the season I was highly critical of Carroll. Then I started purposely re-watching his games and watching the service he got.

How can you enjoy your food if the waiter keeps taking it to the wrong table?

Rewflo

Do you know anything about the game Henderson was very decent and Big Andy was close to scoring a goal in off his arse is all he needs.

More importantly ws the comment of Kk after the game we now have. Squad of people proud to be in the lfc shirt.

Somthing missing from many in recent years

Chris lfc exile

"Very decent"?!
What the hell does that mean?

Henderson was poor!
He is playing out of position in his defence but if you just listened to the crowd tonight at times when he did some stupid thing.
Grumbles all round!
He'll get it right eventually like Lucas (as he has more natural talent than Lucas) but needs to show a bit more commitment in the tackle at times not just pressure from a yard away.
I don't need to explain my knowledge of football to anyone including you Chris.
Do you feel better about yourself trying to belittle people like that?
Sad!

Henderson was much better when moved inside. Out wide I feel he is a little ineffective. He has good short range link up play and willing to shoot which is why I prefer him in the middle.

I dont blame him for poor service, not his fault he is playing in an unfamiliar role. I think Henderson is a good player and improving all the time.

Should have been at least 2 reds by now, astonishing how much Newcastle have gotten away with. If it were us we'd have 7 men and everyone else on a yellow.

Also, loved that the very man they sent onto the line to block a goal-bound effort for the free-kick actually led to them conceding Bellamy's 2nd.

And therein lies the biggest problem with Carroll. His first touch.

Always nitpicking arent we? the lad worked his socks off and we won. i honestly believe once gerrard is inserted back in the starting line up we will start to see the best out of big andy

OMG I finally agree with you Ash. So stop that immediately please or I'll have less to grump about.
Good performance from everyone tonight with the exception of the crowd. Where has all the noise gone? Only heard them once we were in front and then only just. Where's our famous twelfth man gone?
Well done the King. Very enjoyable.
ND

Is Ash moaning AGAIN? We won ffs and AC played a darn good game. Where's your usual criticism of Downing, Ash?

Give him some time, how often does he play 90 mins?
Players need match sharpness and match fitness, you get that from playing matches.

I will wager money (I actually have) that Carroll will score 4 goals in next 7 games while Suarez is out.

Rewflo

So (to the above anonymous poster) would you disagree with my point? And did downing play well or something?

Ash

Downing played well, Andy played well. We won 3-1 yet you still have nothing positive to post except anti-Carroll sentiments, Ash. You seem to have an agenda. Celebrate the win and appreciate the team's performance (including the contibutions of Carroll and Downing). It's what supporters do.

cozinoz

Have to agree here too the crowd was really flat tonight not much to cheer about though however we need to get behind the team whenever times are tough it's what Liverpool is famous for our 12th man once we went ahead the songs came out loud and clear

30 Dec 2011 21:01:01
Why oh why oh why do managers persist in playing wingers on their wrong sides? It just doesn't work!
It only works if the player is world class or can beat men with pace and dibbling. Downing is not world class and cannot beat a man. For the love of God, play the poor lad on the left wing and tell him to hug the line! Maybe then we'd get the type of cross that big Andy craves?

Lfc 2929- come on mate, gerrard was laying it on a plate for andy carroll and he still couldn't do it, if bellamy didnt score those wonder goals and gerrard, im sure most of you would be scrutinising carroll even more because today he got the chances and couldn't do it, i think he might improve but does he suit lfc? i really dont know and it doesnt look like it.RedTurk

Go cry somewhere else RedTurk - we're all getting bored of your anti-Carroll bullsh*t. The boy hasd a great game and would have scored if the service was better

cozinoz

Yeah Red Turk it was a poor first touch but he needs to get some match sharpness in him. Just for an experiment for the next 3 games focus only on Andy Carroll and be objective about what you see.

Think about where Fowler would move or Rush and then watch to see if Carroll does the same. Then... watch to see if he gets decent service.

Just for 3 games try this, and I guarantee your opinion of Carroll will change.

I was watching the premiership years this morning and it showed Fowler scoring with the most appalling first touch ever for city. He was just lucky it went in. Happens to everyone.

I'm dissatisfied with our final ball. Carroll Bellers and Johnson all playing well.

Adam, Enrique need to pick their game up for me. Adam needs to be taken off Set piece duty since 70% of them are very poor. Let Bellers take em.

Kenny needs to give the defense a bollocking for that goal, awful marking.

Other than that not bad. but not great.

Also, why the hell is the home crowd so quiet? yet again?

30 Dec 2011 20:42:01
Dalglish has it all wrong (not talking about todays game, just in general). He should be making the games against the mid-lower table teams his priority. Why?

Maths. there is more points in beating the teams outside the top 4 than inside it. We could win every game against the top 4 and still not qualify for champs league. However.... We could win every game against the teams outside top 4 whilst losing to ALL the top 4 and still qualify.

It's true... It's true

30 Dec 2011 20:38:07
Kenny should tell Carroll to park himself in the penalty area. Far too often we have had great crossing positions and have had to go back waiting for Carroll to lumber into the penalty area and the opportunity has gone.

I agree, I think Carroll should play like Duncan Ferguson and he should not be allowed out of their penalty box. Let Bellers pick up the loose passes, Carroll needs to be glued to the box.

Definately!

Carroll is working well with bellamy to create chances but doesnt have enought time to get in box

Quick FIFA 12 question... Since my xbox kinect has a microphone and picks up every noise in my home while playing, I've begun to play the Anfield crowd singing "you'll never walk alone" near the end of a match when I'm winning so my opponent can hear it... Is that rude or awesome? I guess press "agree" if you think it's rude, or "disagee" if you think it's awesome... I think it's great because my 8-year-old daughter usually joins in singing! Let me know!

When Arsene Wenger says that he will not be signing any new players unless some leave, does that mean he is only interested in Podolski if Chamack or Arshavin can be offloaded?

Everyones looking at Carroll tonight. I feel we may have forgotten Hendersn who surely would love a goal against Newcastle?

I honestly love the lad. What I absolutely hate is that he's being played on the right. Henderson deserves a place in the middle, we all know how well he's been doing in the last few weeks.

Eds and anyone whoelse make know the answer - why does Suso never play for us. It is clear at times that we sometimes play too rigid - which is good when we are able to get a goal but when we are controlling the games against lesser teams it is harder to break them down. Suso has the potential to become a really great player so why is he never on the bench, let alone playing?

why should we spend another 15M on an attacking midfielder or more when we havent tried Suso or other young flair players out? Look at Arsenal with Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey. Suso argueably has similair quality if not better to those two yet because they have been given the chance they are now two pivotal starlets for England and Wales respectively

Finally, now that Suarez is banned for at least a fair few games do you think that Kenny will atleast give a couple of youngsters a place on the bench or a try out in some games??

{Ed001's Note - because Suso is not ready.}

I watch most of the reserve games and everytime i see him he looks really good and i have thought that he deserves a run out for a long time. However the backroom staff and kenny know alot more than me so we will just have to wait and see.

Its because he's not good enough.

Just read an article from Kevin McCauley some football editor, about how Demba ba is the signing of the season, and its his night to shine. And also our defence is hardly world class! No just the best in league, its amazing some people get paid to write some dribble. Although i do it for nothing, who's got it right i ponder. All the best.

KNEE JERK

I have stopped reading the opinions of these columnists....The other day I read Des Kelly complain about our support to Suarez in what was a totally biased column.......Most of them write complete non sense and get away with it.....

Ed, why dont we get good press despite being one of the best behaved clubs, having a fantastic fan base and most importantly the most successful club in England......

There is a lot of bias towards London based clubs.....Hence I dream of a day when the top4 will be from Manchester and Liverpool so that all these media men who write senseless dtuff get a taste of their own medicine.....

Seriously. if liverpool want to compete with the big spenders they have to spend cash and spend early.
how about Ozil, Huntelaar and Johnson in one swoop for 25mil each. just spend the money, get the players and away we go. no spending a month trying to find bargain players. buy and buy big and quick.

And where does all this money come from. The owners?
Unlikely, in just over a year, they have bought the club, spent many millions on player, increased wage bill and paying off players. They are about to put money towards either a re-development of Anfield or a new stadium. That's not going to be cheap. They are not really going to want to spend £75m more are they, and imagine the wages for those player!

Lower your expectations mate, or support Chelsea this January, they might spend that amount of money.....

Burnsy

Well. good thing your not in charge of the clubs money!

Do you have £75m to give away? If so, very generous of you.

Rafa's Purple Goatie

This is exactly the owners game plan, how everybody says we have no money and cant afford this nd we cant afford that amazes me, we shelled out 35million on a potentially world class player on carrol and 22 on saurez only 12 months ago, the owners know cl football is a must and the sooner we get there the better, i guarantee decent investment will be made in january for the final push for 4th spot, if the player is available and he wants to come a move will be made, the owners are wise and have clubs believing we dont have much to spend

We dont need to spend soo much money, teams can buy quality players on the cheap aswel, you just need to know where to shop, im sure that was part of comolli's role when he came in, he has to be able to spot bargains becos not many teams can simply spend big all the time.RedTurk

Its amazing how some fans regard the massive expenditure on players as a simple answer to all problems. It is not like that it in the real business world. Most businesses work with profitability ratios of 10-15%, so to recoup £75 million, we are talking about massive additional revenues. I recall LFC's revenue most recently was around £240million. I think fans need to adjust and rethink their expectations, we can not compete financially with the other big teams, as we don't have, pots and pots of owner money,or a stadium with a capacity that maximises potential revenue (65K + capacity, and extra corporate). Sadly (and I know I will be shot down for this), LFC have been left behind in the revenue stakes, owing to lack of vision and implementation and growth by former owners. The club is in a 'rebuilding phase' both on and off the pitch, so realistic expenditure and development and acquisition will be the norm for a few years to come. Food for thought.

Didnt he sign a new contract not so long ago?

He may be talented but is he hungry enough to win a place back in the first team? I dont think so.......

Hi eds interesting info by you guys earlier on Liverpools wage structure. Its a about time that wages were controlled. At the end of the day its the wages that kill football clubs. Is this football in general tightining up in wages as it was interesting earlier that chelsea wont pay what cahill is demanding and chelsea have been one of the biggest payers.

Its also great to see that we buy younger players with a point to prove and earn there wages. Thats why some of the rumours on here make me laugh about certain players.

January is the Cruelest Month

by A Hopeles Fan

I can't wait for January and the return of the Arab looking fellows with briefcases outside of Melwood or the Higuain type fellows accompanied by 3 wisemen in suits or the 7 Lucas' boarding planes in and out of England.

Where are the security guys' brothers or the gardeners' cousins who used to feed our wildest dreams?

What about the cleaning ladies and hairdressers who are entrusted with priviledged transfer information?

Can we summon parents whose children go to the same school as the Carraghers or the Kuyts again?

Oh how I long for the taxi drivers who make countless runs to and from Anfield each time carrying promises of bigger transfer targets.

Will we ever hear the soothing voice from the inside again? Or are we forever condemned to await the second coming of the talkative trainee?

I tire of tales of De Jong and the promises of a brighter future. Quiet the Bent and the wicked. Throw the Coles into the fire of our past fainlings.

Why can't you see that we want Hazard and bravery. Bring us Hulks and Warriors alike. Bolster our ranks with soldiers from the Far East.

January thou are so close and yet...

Quite the poet aren't you lol.

why do some people think we have no chance of signing a top class striker! the likes of higuain, pato, cavani are out of our league and we shud be trying to get the likes of bent, de jong etc the owners have spent a hell of alot of money so far and i feel we can compete with the top teams for the top players, we have one of the best strikers in the world allready in suarez and dont be surpised for us to put a huge bid in for a top class player, it would be taking a step back if we go for a striker who would not get into any of the big sides,

30 Dec 2011 15:42:16
Think that if we want a striker we shoud go for defoe proven goal scorer with pace what we need because maxi is our fastest player and he isnt fast :0

Just had radio city on local staion in liverpool no mention of andy carroll . think ya mate is winding you up.

It's Bellamy and Carroll up front tonight

Could I please have a Liverpool Ed answer this:
I have being having an argument about weather or not you have to be from Liverpool or not to be a real fan, otherwise you are a "plastic" as he called it, despite how much you know about the club! Thoughts?

The Lad from Ireland {Ed001's Note - only an idiot would say it matters where you are from. So long as you love the club that is good enough for me.}

So if true supporters were to be confined to the city, with lets say for arguments sake 50% Everton fans 50% lfc fans. Would our club be as big as it is now? No,
what about our Irish support are they not true supporters because there are not even from our shores. Or what about the T.V revenue from our arm chair supporters, up and down the land, and world wide. Your mate is an idiot. All the best.

It matters whats in your heart not the geographic location of where you are situated. I am from London but had the Liverpool values instilled in me from my Uncle when I was a child I and love the club with all my heart. Remember the days when we finished mid table to the days watching us in the Europa Cup on Channel 5 to reaching the Champions League under Rafa to winning the Champions League to wandering the wildness under the Gillet & Hicks Regime to King Kenny's return. It is a turbulent relationship being married to Liverpool FC, with some ups and downs but I treasure those vows I made many years ago through richer for poor, for better and for worse I would never have it any other way and will never walk out on my first and only love.

Im of Irish and Scottish descent, so Celtic is like my second team does that mean i cant support them because i was born in England, no just as Celtic and Rangers have massive following in Ireland for obvious reasons, are they not true supporters hmm? All the best.

The problem is the club don't care were your from as long as your buying tickets,shirts etc imo scousers who i have spoken too think it is stupid supporting a club so far away i live in Hartlepool and they have a team but my love is Liverpool

Most stupid argument going. All you have to do is look at our pre-season tour of Asia. I bet a lot of the fans over there would probably die for the club!

I was Born and grew up in London and I still live here my dad is of Jamaican decent and my mum is Irish decent but she grew up in Liverpool and I am very proud to say have one of the biggest family's in Liverpool I am huge fan and those who say you are not a real fan because you are not from the city are ignorant! I think a lot of people say it matters when they support a "small" club that doesn't have many fans then they try to justify their own supports by questioning others. To me Liverpool is the home of British football, and although all teams have a small section of fickle fans or "armchair" fans (a phrase that I hate some people have no choice but to watch from their homes and we shouldnt question their support because they can't attend games) but Liverpool fans are passionate, football is a religion to them and a trip to anfield is a pilgrimage.
I couldn't imagine ever supporting another club even if we got relegated every year from now. It does bother me when scousers are so spiteful towards "wools" though.

Sorry about the long winded answer but passion makes a fan in my book not knowledge or geography

Ashy

I'm a Liverpool lad. We'd all love to think that this is our football club from our city; that we own it. But the absolute reality in the case of Liverpool, not everyone is that this is a global brand, one of only a handful of clubs that are truly globally recognised and supported. So you can't have it both ways. You can't hope to be one of the biggest football clubs in the world, with some of the biggest revenues and some of the greatest players, and you can't invite people from the other side of the world to support your team and contribute to your revenues and therefore your success, and not expect to let them in and let them participate in some way in what you do. If we want to be a small parochial club, and close our doors to anyone outside the city, we won't get very far in this global football market. So whether it's what people like is irrelevant it's absolutely what people have to accept and expect. - Ian Ayre.

All the talk about Carroll going out on loan or for sale, I can tell you he is not going anywhere. I am close to a source in the club and there will be 2 or 3 signings in January, but no names as yet but it does look like de Jong is on his way, a supposed fee has been agreed. It is also possible that either maxi or Knut are on there way out, with a replacement coming in.

I can't take anyone serious when they spell kuyt like you did.

Red raj

I love it when someone echoes what the Ed's have been saying for about 3 months.

This site makes me laugh sometimes. The OP has got 6 disagrees but actually out of everything i have read the past week on here he is probably talkin the most sense lol Carroll aint goin nowhere in jan, 2 or 3 signings could come, de jong could be on his way and it is not inconcievable that kuyt or maxi could be replaced. If it was one of maccas posts you'd all be drooling over it lol

30 Dec 2011 14:57:22
Why oh why is every one goin on about getting the ball to carrolls head. He doesn't score many headers. He didn't at newcastle. We need to get the ball to his feet outside the box because he can smash em. He's as good from distance as any one and he has too much power for the keeper to hold the ball. If we have a poacher in the box with Carroll and gerrard puttin some swaz on there shots then if they don't score with there shot it will probably go for a corner then u can cross it to his head or there's a chance the ball will land at the feet of the poacher. Why does every one think he can head a ball better than any one else does no one remember crouch he was the worst header of the ball I've ever seen but he has great feet for a big guy. The defenders don't expect it so play the ball to his feet and see what happens I bet he scores 80% of his goals with his feet lfc don't seem to get that yet but when they he will bang them in for fun.

Fully agree the emphasis of putting the ball on his head wont work the accuracy in doing that is unrealistic . when we had toshack ,shankly told heighway and hall to forget about putting the ball perfectly on his head its impossible . instead he told toshack to hang around the penalty spot and hall and heighway had to deliver the ball below head height between the penalty spot and goal line and toshack had to be there . geoff hurst was talking on radio the other week and he said ron greenwood told him and martin peters exactly the same . and guess what fe rguson tells his wingers and strikers exactly the same . ronaldo giggs beckham nani valencia all great crosses of the ball . thats all they practise . thats why they flatten lesser teams till we go the same way we will struggle against lower teams . world class rightwinger please desperately.

Hi EDs

Whats with all the hype De Jong is getting? I've been told by a mate who watched him alot this season, this guy is no better than Carroll or Kuyt in front of goal & he lacks pace for the PL.

Theba300

Not better than Carroll and Kuyt you reckon? de Jong has scored 14 more goals and 16 more assists this season than Carroll and Kuyt put together. I would be stoked if de Jong moves here in January!

Steve

I'm sure if Kuyt & Carroll played in that league they'd out score him.

Here's Kuyt, Suarez & De Jong goal record in Holand.
Kuyt
Games 565 - Goals 216.

Suarez
Games 159 - Goals 111

Luuk de Jong
Games 101 - Goals 41

I've put Suarez record on here to show you how good it was ;) But even he has struggled to score as many as we have hoped for. Luuk De Jong vs Kuyt theres not too much difference.

If you are talking about Harry Redknapp I posted about this a week or so ago, it just turns my stomach. I was unhappy with the thought that I saw his face more than my girlfriends so I decided to take a break from Sky Sports News but its nice to know he has expanded his topics he covers to now current world affairs. Like I previously mention a place in next years celebrity big brother is beckoning for Sky Sports love child Mr Redface.

I've never been a fan of good old 'Arry, But I was flicking through some rag someone left on the table in work today and he used his column to write about how the press need to give Carroll and to an extent Dalglish time to get things right for him.

The pessimist in me thought "here we go, talking about other players and trying to be the bigger man etc..." but to be fair to him, he had a lot of valid points.

Hi Ed
I was just thinking about are CB we seem to be doing quite well there.#
Is there any chance in signing Alex from Chelsea, I think he is quality and would be quite good for our injury prone defence.
Also do you think we will sign a DM as Lucas is out for the rest of the season?
Please post in the rumours page
Cheers {Ed002's Note - With Skrtel and Agger doing well and with Carragher, Kelly, Wilson, Coates and probably more to cover I would say the Alex is not going to happen. Dalglish said there would be no replacement for Lucas and given the return of Gerrard and Shelvey I am doubtful that a DM will be purchased.}

Andy Carroll

Goal v Swansea ( CROSSBAR)
Goal v Norwich ( MISSED HEADER
Goal v Man City ( great save Hart)
GOAL EVERTON
GOAL WBA
Goal Exeter
Goal V Chelsea ( missed pen )
Goal V Blackburn ( Bunn Great save)

Not so bad Ok he has only 2 league goals and 1 cup but could hve been a lot better apart from some world class saves and a pen miss and crossbar. so all in all he is getting chances and we need to get behind him.

Y.N.W.A

There is a reason why saves, missed penalties and ball hitting the woodwork are'nt counted as goals.

There is no doubt our penalties have been very bad.......

Most of the penalties that were been taken were in the comfort zone for a keeper to save.....

Kenny/Clarke should assign the spotkicks to Stevie G/Adams/Downing in that order.....

Suarez should be told very clearly that he should leave the dead ball to the guys above.....if was converting them, it would be fine but I do not think he hits them on target, leave alone converting them.....

I think unless something drastic changes its going to be Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool fighting for that final CL spot, having said that I feel we have a great chance if Gerrard gets back to form and we pick up one or two squad players and a striker good enough for the first team. {Ed002's Note - Adebayour is not going because the country he represents is Togo, and they did not qualify.}

Ah my mistake i thought Ekotto was going, like i said dont think we will get 3rd but Spurs wont run away with it. All the best.

Good Afternoon All,

I for one don't think we are that far off Champions League football and before I carry forward my point, no I am not this happy go lucky everything is rosy type supporter and yes I do get upset when we lose just like every supporter and all the players do but I don't become some "Doom and Gloom", "Kenny Dalglish for the sack" or the favourite right now, which seems to be "Its all Andy Carroll's fault" type supporter which a fair few on here seem to be.

We are essentially 3 points behind Chelsea who occupy 4th place and 2 points behind Arsenal who are 2 points ahead of us in the league and still have to play Arsenal at home on March 3rd and Chelsea at home on May 5th. These are both winnable games in theory, but as we all know football is a funny old sport so you never know it might be down to other results where we fall by the wayside or march back into the Champions League or it could be down to these fixture you just never know with football and especially the Premier League.

If's and but's maybe, but with a clinical out and out striker I am sure we would be nestling somewhere between the two Manchester clubs right now or at the very lest be firmly in one of those Champions League places. Thats not even to mention the signing of a right sided winger, which iv mentioned before would potentially greatly improve Andy Carroll's game. Also with Lucas gone and Spearing the only other recognisable defensive midfielder we have with experience suspended for the previous 3 matches we have been sometimes left exposed in the middle with Adam and Hendo fitted together. I for one actually really like Adam and when he had an accomplished defensive midfielder in the mould of Lucas alongside him he was actually playing well. I also think Hendo is good player and can potential be a very good player through the glimpses we have seen, I sometimes feel the criticism aimed towards those players is often unwarranted.

The club are according to the Ed's actively looking to fill the striker role, as to who that maybe I like most of us don't have the foggiest. We have to be realistic and think sometimes players who are not be chased by every single elite club in Europe does not reflect the actual players ability, correct me if I am wrong and I am sure someone will but I don't think Suarez had a number of clubs put in a bid for him when we did and look how that turned out. I think some short cover maybe to the end of the season is need in the defensive midfield role ideally a loan. I cant think of anyone right now but in my opinion I feel this needs to be sorted but seeing as its not a pressing issue per se in comparison to the striker and right sided positions then an experienced player on loan would suit everyone especially us financially. We would all love to think we could splash out £30 million on each area we need filling, and if I could pick one player it would be Fernando Reges but its not attainable and we have to be realistic. Same goes with the striker and right sided area I don't know who we could realistically attract but I am leaving that down to Kenny Dalglish, Damien Comolli and John W. Henry & Co, who knows they might surprise us all.

Agree with all that you have stated, We have lost many points this season because the woodwork and great perfoming goalkeepers have been in the way. Luck will start to change soon and one of the teams we face are going to be facing a hiding, 5-0 win coming up soon :)

On those games where we lost points we were missing a leader on the pitch, if we had one we would have turned those games to our favour now gerrard is back he is the best example for any leader on any team, hopefully he can stay injury free, we will turn it around and if we can manage to go on a winning run say 5 or 6 games we will be in touch with 3rd place sooner rather than later, i think carrol will come good today.
abbs

I agree with the both of you, someone will be on the receiving end of a drumming soon and we definitely have missed someone like Stevie G leading on the pitch. A few wins on the trot could not only do the team and our league position a world of good but also a few players confidence some good i.e Downing and Carroll.

Don't trust my math, but it looks like Mr. S. GERRard and Mr. A. Carroll have played maybe 200 minutes together in 2011. Might not old number 8 (not Carl Yastrzemski) be just the guy to lob balls off the top of A. Carroll's headbone and into the goal?

Hi Edds
Can anyone tell me what wingers we are in for?
the right midfield is in dire need if kuyt does leave!
I'm not forgetting how good Gerrard is down that flank but he is needed in the middle

Any chance of Billy Sharp for £1.85m? He is a quality championship player and deserves a chance in the prem

He was class when he was at rushden, and kept us up. Looking at his championship records he's scoered more at that level than carroll. But i dont feel he would moves us forward.
L Tomlin and S Jackson both ex rushden players are also class acts.

What a great time for Andy Carroll to be meeting his old club tonight with them struggling at centre back. Get good delivery into him and he will destroy them. Can smell at least a brace!

I can smell more missed opportunities and another home draw!

Hey eds great site. i was just wondering ive seen on a few occasions that glen johnson is apparently leaving, whats gone on there? is he unhappy or what?, ive always thought it a bit harsh that kelly hasnt played much but glen johnson is a quality player and it would be sad to see him go, also if we were to sell him how much of the £18 million IIRC transfer fee should we expect to see back?
thanks, simon {Ed002's Note - You need to read the posts and use the search function about Johnson - we cannot keep repeating ourselves.}

Ed why dont you just have a list of pre written or previously answered questions and copy and paste the response...it would surely be much more quicker and more effective than continually repeating urself tellin people to use the search function. You Eds must be able to see by now that people will not use that search function...especially new visitors to the site or people that dont visit often. {Ed002's Note - I do.}

Cut and paste repsonses would be fine with me. {Ed002's Note - Sadly we are in a complete no win situation. We are trying to educate people to read through the posts and not repeatedly ask questions (what time will Higuain arrive at Melwood on January 2?)- but they don't seem to be bothered to do that. We also try and encourage folks to use search function where it is likely an answer has already been given (are we buying Hazard?) but they can't be bothered. A lot of folks get upset if they keep seeing the same cut and paste answers, and that is understandable. But equally they get pissed if we cut their questions because it has already been answered. Then we have the decent and bright users who are interested in reading through the posts and will use the search function but get miffed by all the clutter. We have tried several things in the past and will start significantly cutting the repeat posts as we get in to the transfer window and the Higuain sightings start. We will try and keep the Rumours page as decent rumours and minimise duplication, but expect folks to read the rumours and use the search function. The Banter page will contain the actual banter and some of the "care not" stuff. The rest will be deleted or moved to the Dodgy Rumour page. This should keep the site much cleaner.}

Hi, with Suarez likely to be out for 8 games I was wondering if we have any young forwards in the reserves and academy who might be worth bringing into the 1st team squad? Owen, Gerrard and Fowler were playing at 18, dont we have any young lads who are in that calibre?

Thanks

Andy {Ed001's Note - only really Adam Morgan or possibly Adorjan, in my opinion, look worth a shot up front. None of them are quite there yet, unlike Owen, Gerrard and Fowler, who were all clearly ready for the first team.}

30 Dec 2011 13:10:21
hi eds just quick one were would ouzil play and who would he replace in the first team i no its a big if he came but would be an excellent signing cheers
{Ed002's Note - We cannot sensibly answer such questions, sorry.}

Ed002 why you liike this all the time just say were you think he will play and who you think he will replace dont see the problem {Ed002's Note - You want me to answer this for a player who will not be joining Liverpool in January? It is simply fantasy football, but Ok. He will replace Gerrard and play behind Cavani and Higuain.}

Love what LFC are doing with the Matchday broadcasts from Anfield :

Pre game build up ... Live commentary plus crowd reaction and ... Post game analysis with fans phone forum .

A great effort that makes a 90 minute football match seem like a 3 to 4 hour occasion .

If we want to get the best out of Suarez, Gerrard, and even Adam, Downing and Carroll, we need a striker with pace leading the forward line. Someone that can link up with the aforementioned names but is always looking to run in behind and can finish well.

Stretching teams with pace wins matches, spurs, city, utd all do this very well. Even teams that park the bus will eventually concede at least two or three counter attacking opportunities during a match.

We are very effective at starting counter attacking moves (especially with Pepe) but this season we have failed on numerous occasions with the final pass or shot on goal.

Suarez for all his brilliance is caught offside far too much. He is not a well timed striker like FT once was i.e. had impeccable timing of runs to beat the offside, for this reason IMO Suarez needs to either play behind the last man or left or right of him.

I am not saying copy, but if you sort of replicate a variation of the front three of Uruguay (Cavani, Forlan, Suarez,) Suarez is going to have more space and the team is going to be more effective at scoring goals.

I know we play 4-4-2 a lot of the time but I really don't see it working as effective as a 4-3-2-1 with a decent quick forward leading the line or a 4-1-2-3 with effectively three quick forwards.

Going back to the front three theory.Downing or Maxi can effectively play the left sided role of this and Suarez the right side where he was so prolific with Ajax probably because he wasn't offside so much! The missing link would be a pacey front man with finishing ability, but who could fill this position? I have no idea.

Bellamy would be ideal but he can't play every game and KK seems to prefer him as a winger. Andy is not quick enough IMO. I have not seen enough of Darren Bent to know if he is intelligent enough to play the role. From what I have heard De Jong is intelligent on the ball but is he a natural goal scorer and quick enough on the counter attack?

My thoughts went straight to one name.! Giuseppe Rossi. Pace and absolute clinical finisher..

Shame he's injured and has been for sum time, not to mention utd have 1st refusal on him (not 100% sure,maybe ed knows),can't see fergie letting our front line get stronger if they got the option to take him back

I am the original poster and must correct myself, from the copa america reviews I have gone through, Uruguay mostly acutally played with with 1 up front, most of the time it was 4-4-1-1. Neverthelss my idea about Suarez and playing in a 3 up front or him behind a striker still stands. But the answer to whom that could remains... Rossi is injured isnt he? Augero or Tevez would have been ideal but never possible. The Vargas dude could have been could be Napoli have signed him up. Doumbia's I am the best attitude doesnt wash, so I have come to the conclusion that the only srikers that fit the bill in no particular order are:

Sow
Remy
Podolski
Barrios

With Kagawa, De Jong & Sulejmani being viewed as possible wing options only.

Barrios for me. Would be awesome with Suarez. Need Albrighton or Moses for the right.

Rossi isn't good enough for the prem thats why he was sold....

30 Dec 2011 12:41:19
by the way for all the people including gerrard in there starting line ups I can guarantee he will not be starting. He will probably get half an hour at the end most. Lets be honest we don't want him getting injured again.

Liverpool are going to sign 3 players from real madrid at a discount. Real boss jose mourinho wants to sign suarez but Liverpool said he is not for sale so when we want to sell or if suarez is unhappy real Madrid get him on a discount there are lots of real madrids players we are interested in but the three players were most intrested in are higuain, ozil and xabi alonso the other players were considering are jose callejon, raul albiol, and karim benzema.

As a United fan, i was wondering if a liverpool fan could enlighten me to what fsg's special requirements are when purchasing players?

It seems as though you are looking for, young players with lots of potential? Wow thats a new one.

James {Ed001's Note - you clearly need to take more notice, there is a lot more to it than that. They must be keen to join the club, not for huge wages, no new players are joining on high wages, they have to want to play for the club, not for money.}

What Ed is telling you James, we want players to want to play for us and not just for the money. There are some players in the PL, that don't give a toss about the club i.e Shrek, Shrek , Shrek, Shrek Shrek. Who brought his manager and club to it's knees, for a measly 250k a week. And a signing on bonus, of a hair transplant, the face transplant is being done soon. As soon as Ian Dowie croaks it, Shrek is 1st on the waiting list.

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

Well said Blair, as everyone knows Fergie knows how to handle his players, he's famous for it! *Tongue firmly in cheek* All the best.

Has anybody heard the Alan Pardew Press Conference from yesterday going on about a match between two fallen giants etc. Pardew is really bugging me. Liverpool have been in 2 European Champions League finals in the last 6 years. Yes we had a poor 18 months mainly caused by off field issues but we are nowhere near Newcastle and whatever tonights result I bet Mr Pardew will be unemployed or managing a lower club within the next 2 years. Pardew is having his 20 minutes of glory.

We had a bad season we came 7th, they had a bad season the got relegated, thats the differance -McMenemy

Hey Eds, i remember when we signed Coates that there was an agreement (or at least talk of an agrmt) between LFC and Nacional to have a joint player development program or at least something that give LFC an "in" on any of their players. Is it part of the club plans to develop these kind of relationships, especially in the americas & asia?

We are clearly missing the point.. Bring torres home! There is no doubt he would be available, he can't get a game..

Why do people consider Torres better than Carroll both are struggling with confidence. The only difference I see is that Carroll is a Liverpool player and Torres "moved to a bigger club" -McMenemy

30 Dec 2011 12:16:15
Whats the story with Coates does anybody know? I was sure he was a first team starter but he has hardly played- Syrktel is decent but unpredictable {Ed002's Note - Coates needs time to settle in to a new country, a new culture, he has to learn the language - it takes time and you have to remember that the CBs are playing well.}

Coates will make many appearances in a reds shirt he has at least 15 years at the top level. From the few games i've seen of him I have been very impressed.

Danny

So what did dalglish waste money on him for? He aint a clue get him out.

Skrtel's been quality this season alongside Agger. Wouldn't consider dropping either of them on current form. Coates will get his chance eventually...

People forget our defence is the best in the league this season. Glen johnson has really impressed me - used to be criticsed weekly for his lack of defensive skills - and now he is probably the best right back in England.

Dear Ed's & All

I've found myself in a bit of a predicament tonight, I've just been asked around a young ladies house for dinner tonight @ 7pm, she also says I can watch the footie too!

Should I...

A. Thank her for the invite, but politely give her the "Spanish Archer?"
B. Take her up on the offer, eat her food and watch the footie.
C. Accept the invite and tell her to not worry about the football as I'm more interested in her than The 'Pool?

All advise is welcome!

dmedly {Ed002's Note - When Ed007 and I were with her last week we skipped right past the football and got on with the food. Her cooking is very good.}

This sounds like the start of, possibly, the most beautiful relationship ever. Option B all the way. Start as you mean to carry on.

Defo go for option B, then if the game is turning out to be a damp squid go for option c, anyway good luck in your conquest.......... CM68

Avoid option C at all costs.

Stu.

Predicament? What predicament?
Let me get this straight, you're going to a young ladies house, eating her food, and then watching the game, which will be done by about 9.30pm, giving you time to, erm, 'concentrate' on her?
Where's the predicament? Gift horse and mouth spring to mind.
Get in there and fill yer boots matey!

Redjinal

Try and think of a way that you can sit down nice and comfy and position her so you can still see the tv over the top of her head. You get to see the match and she won't keep interrupting you with small talk because it's rude to speak with your mouth full.

Watch the game and ask her to way h with u then "educate" her on footy, make it a bit of a laugh for her so she doesn't get bored like women do with football, then in the future she might be willing to cook for u then watch the footy with you coz she enjoys it. Win win situation ;)

Hypothesis - Rafa and Suarez would have never got on in footballing terms.

...or would Rafa make him into a better player? Rafa likes to work with individuals on specifics. How would you better Suarez... for me, the final shot does not have to be 100% power, that's it.

Rafa would probably play him as a holding midfielder!

liverpool need to get back into the top four. so why arent we going for the big marquee players? who says we cant get them, or at least one, id class suarez as one, yes we dont have champions league to offer but thats what i dont get about professional players these days, they go on about needing new challenges, what would be better than coming to a team with history like ours, fans like ours, and firing us back into the top four, becoming a liverpool legend, taking us back to the glory days. that is the kind of challenge these professionals should thrive on. no passion now, they want the easy way and to go to a team thats already in the cl. all about the money now.
i know it is unlikely but we need to be at least trying to get one of these players - hazard/shaqiri/pato/soldado/
lucas moura/leandro damaio/podolski/higuain/cavani
i know some of them are long shots like everyone says. but if you dont try, you dont suceed, and these players want stupid wages like man city or want to go to barcelona where in my opinion is no new challenge. they dont deserve to put on our red shirt. but they could come to us, get us back into the cl, get us that other title, become part of history with a team with the best fans in the world and never walk alone. become a lfc legend.
whatever happens im lfc til i die. in kk and dc we trust. {Ed002's Note - Liverpool certainly have shown an interest in one or two of the players you list (e.g. Soldado, Lucas) and cetainly another (Podolski) is not entirely out of the question. But equally, you need to remember that January is not a good time to be looking for players, that a great deal was invested in the summer, some of the players have no interest in move to the club and that financially some of these players are simply not a viable option.}

Thanks for the reply ed. soldado, lucas or podolski would be great signings. i understand what your saying. i know january is not a good time, but we need something, at the very least definitely a prolific striker, and a out and out winger. im not too sure about centre mid, as long as stevie is back and keeps his fitness. maybe a possible loan would do until lucas returns.
i know we invested a lot, but in my opinion only two, maybe 3 were good buys. obviously suarez, enrique. and i think adam was a good buy for the price. what a waste spending that much on downing and henderson and especially carroll, combine them together and we could of spent it much more wisely. again i know we didnt have cl to offer. but i still dont get what young quality talent doesnt want the challenge of coming to a club, fully knowing that we have the history and potential to be back at the top, and help get us there, what an achievement in a professionals career that is. being a part of a team getting back into cl, getting another title etc. i think kenny and the owners need to realise that we made a few mistakes in our signings, although i know them players could turn around and prove us wrong. but we need right now players who can get us back to where we belong. also luuk de jong could be a good signing if the price is right. then we definitely need even though it is jan, a big signing. cheers ed. love the site, i check everyday. keep up the good work. {Ed002's Note - I rather suspect Dalglish will not put his hand up and say the majority of his signings have not been good. De Jong still remains a likely option as a striker - after that we have to wasit and see.}

Excelenct post!

Players should go to a team and EARN thier place in a champions league squad.

But if the team they currently are playing for qualified for the CL, then it's only thier right to want to move (If they choose) to another team that will be in the competition as well...Just my opinion.

But I find it ludicrous for a player who plays in a team who hasn't made the CL, to want to only move to a side that's in the competition...Earn your place son!

Fair doos Suarez!!

Chipkin9 (EIRE)

Problems lie with the agents really. Its them that force the issue with wages and Champs League. If your in Champs League you can demand more money cause the teams have more to spend. Yes...most players like the lime light and want to play in a higher comp but great players will play for teams like us as we are going to make the champs league next season...lets be positive

S

Morning Eds,

Luuk De Jong has been mentioned an awful lot for the past month to two months and as I haven't seen much Dutch football, I was wondering which player you would compare him to in terms of playing style ?

Thanks
AK {Ed001's Note - I wouldn't compare him to anyone, you can sit and pick out bits of his game that are comparable to hundreds of players, but that doesn't mean he is anything like any of them. He is big, strong and quick, good in the air, technically adept and works hard for the team.}

...in that case we won't buy him! He sounds like a dream from that description Ed!

Tonight's team for me:

Reina
Johnson-Agger-Skrtel-Enrique
Rodriguez-Gerrard-Adam-Downing
Bellamy-Carroll

Doni-Kelly-Carra-Spearing-Henderson-Kuyt-Shelvey

Bellamy has the speed and Carroll has the heading ability so they should form a nice partnership.
BENCH HENDERSON - HE'S USELESS.

I was agreeing up until you mentioned Henderson -McMenemy

Didn't macca say Gerrard would be on the bench again tonight? I think he did
TIZER RED

Are you mad?

Henderson has been quality this season!

Well I wouldnt say quality.... but he has been a good signing

I say play spearing and henderson in the midfield.It will give adam a break.Not leave the midfield open to counter attacks
and allow henderson to play to his strength i.e box-to-box.

No chance Gerrard will start tonight, Kenny's going to bring him back into the team slowly...unless you want him injured again after the first half. He might get another 20/30mins at the end though I would guess.

Would it be fair to say that we more likely to permanently become a midtable outfit than we are to reclaim a permanent Champions League place? Would it really be far-fetched that no more are we among the Prem and Europe's elite?

Both Manchester clubs are stronger than us and will probably remain so for the next 5, 10 years to come. They both enjoy vast amounts of financial resources that we can only about.

Chelsea are presently having difficulties. But they, as with Utd and City, have vast amounts of resources, several times superior to ours.
They'll spend very big rebuilding and refreshing their team in January and the summer. With the right spending, I expect they'll be the 2nd strongest team behind City return to being firm favorites for the major honours again by the start of 2012/13.

It's my view that City, Chelsea and Utd will form the top three for years to come. Which leaves 4th.
Spurs are the 3rd best team in the league right now and are well place to get CL.

If they do indeed get it, they'll have a very good base to build on; their stock will exponentially rise. They'll almost certainly be able to retain their best players (Bale, Modric, VDV, Adebayor). Crucially, they'd be able to attract 2, 3 special players and go on to cement their CL place.

On the whole, Arsenal may have a better team and squad than us. Additionally, owing to the CL, they are a much more attractive option than us currently. This will enable them to buy the sort of top-of-the-range talent required to bring them closer to the top. Marvin Martin, Mario Gotze, Hazard. Arsenal are able to attract these players. We can't.

So by the time the window closes January 31, both Chelsea and Arsenal will be much stronger than we as they would have significantly strengthened, better than us and will battle it out for the last CL spot.

In all good faith, I don't see this team finishing in the top four this or the next season, however much I try. By the end of this season we'll officially be a midtable team. I've resigned myself to that reality.

And no CL means no top calibre player, no title and further CL ambitions.
Really I do look at this team and find it impossible to believe it can do anything special.

Of course things could turn out differently. We could make it, buy Ozil/Eriksen, Higuain etc and be right back in it.
However, "could" means possible, and while indeed it is possible, I think it extremely unlikely.

I appreciate the need for faith, but I see no benefit to it.
It seems to me whatever little optimistm there is, it verges on mere hope than a reasonable expectation.

Good luck to the lads tonight.

Melville

Excuse me while I step outside and slash my wrists. Get behind the team - the whole team,

Redpath

We currently sit 3 points - YES 3 POINTS ONLY!! off of 4th place.
We are still re-building the squad and this can't be done overnight. It is a phased process where players are replaced based on the improvement steps along the way. It takes about 3 years to complete properly and along the way you can push for 4th and compete for the cups.
Each step makes you more attractive and so the quality of the player you are able to bring in improves. This improves your results and again makes you more attractive to the better quality players and so on.
We have a vastly improved squad than we did last year and maybe the best in about the last 3 years.
Every player that has come in HAS been an improvement on the like-for-like player that was shipped out. Regardless of peoples opinions on the likes of Big Andy, Henderson, Adam & Downing.
In my opinion we are yet to click this season and yet we are still only 3 points away from 4th.
Get behind the team and give them some support and confidence.
How often is it these days that the away support is making the most noise at Anfield???
It's so sad.
We used to be famed for supporting players and the team no matter what and acting like the 12th man.
These days the home crowd is quiet after about 5 minutes and with each close chance or missed shot you can hear the groans and shouts. This visibly drains the confidence of the players and makes matters worse.

Mate Melville is a Utd fan I wouldn't get too wound up about it!

He was here spouting alot of bull spit a few weeks ago, and he couldn't be more blatant about it.

Chipkin9 (EIRE)

We are a sleeping giant and we are showing signs of coming out of long sleep and as soon as we actually wake up we will be jump from our so called low position (which most teams would dream to be in) and be challenging for top spot not 4th. Our play this year has been awesome just the finishing has been awful, something to improve on to wake up I guess.

Happy New Year to all EDs and fellow Reds supporters incase I dont get a chance to say later. Please stay positive and support all the team.

Morning Ed's
I have been reading about Darren Bent joining,all i can say to that is please don't Kenny.He is a lazy player who plays for himself and not the team.
I would rather have Dempsey or Zamora at least they work and score goals.
Think we still need another wide man and hopefully now Man city out of champions league Adam Johnson would be great.
The Luuk De Jong deal seems to be gaining pace and is one for the future.
Don't take this the wrong way as he is a great player but i personally think the Suarez ban is a bit of a blessing in disguise,let me explain.It seems to me that the team as a whole are relying on him to much regarding his work rate etc.So now maybe we will have to change the way we play and everyone step their game and work rate up and do the closing down themselves.Me personally i would have Kelly at right back with Johnson in front of him,with Enriqe and Downing on the left with bellamy up top doing the Suarez role.We are playing great football but not scoring enough goals.Kenny and Steve will get it right but we need a striker urgently to start banging the chances in.
Just some thought Eds,what do you think?
Happy new year to you all and hopefully we shall be celebrating in the new year.

Your team selection is spot on in my opinion too, dont know abt the strikers you mentioned but other than that its the line up i was saying all a long, prob change a bit now that Gerrard is back, he may play off Suarez.
Red&Bred

Thanks for the reply.As for the strikers i was just thinking in the same bracket money wise.Bsically anyone but Bent.

I'm sorry to ruin the party but there will not be any "marquee" or major signings next month (maybe one or two but not like 3 or 4 like everyone else is saying). LFC just don't have the money to spend. However, next summer will be key for Liverpool like Hazard, Soldado, Higuain etc...

Andy Carroll will be staying at Liverpool. KD believes that he will fire the squad into the top four position.

Forgot about Cavani, Ozil, Bent, or Cahill rumors because they are false.

Tosh

Why would players like that come to us. FAce it we are second rate these days. We offer no guarantee of European football and we don't challenge for any honours. Higuian? You must be joking.

Hazard, higuain, soldado.... R u gonna pay their wages n transfer fees? Even if we make top4, no way will we be signing more than one world class player.
Indian Buzzer

I don't even want players who only want to come to us because of CL footy. They can stay far away from us, imo.

what about bring Joe Cole back hes doing well in France, got lots of flare could do the job?. j

He is doing well because the game is slower so it suits his style and he has more time than in the premier league.

I personally think it isnt very wise to purchase a STRIKER called BENT

LFC 2929

That isn't necessary is it...

Thanks, KickingBro

Unless his first name is imnot.

Are we bent on signing Bent? I doubt it.

As I sit here at work doing absolutely nothing I thought I would do a Google search on "Man United".
Do you have any idea how many websites there are out there that cater for homosexual men!
Another search on "Man City" will confirm this.

You nicked that off michael macintyre

Definately it was nicked off someone. Just thought we all should know this.

Liverpool are reportedly contemplating a January move for Celtic midfielder Beram Kayal.

WTF!!,surely we should be aiming a little higher in quality ?

Was critical myself when rumours first started. In actuality the lad is a class act - great tackler of the ball, extremely determined, capable of playing either as DM or box-to-box, gets at players and is a good reader of the game. He's also cocky enough that he wouldn't let a bad run of form get him down.
Would be delighted if we got him in Jan for ~9m. Wouldn't replace Lucas as such, but an excellent stand in for him and would compliment him when he returns.

For those worried about the king in the jan transfer window, i know from someone close to kenny that he definately wouldn't of signed his permanent contract if he hadn't been granted final say on transfers.
Make of it what you will but i suspect carroll wasn't sanctioned by his scouse heiness!

30 Dec 2011 01:13:41
With the January Transfer Window fast approaching I am astonished that no one has really made any mention of Ken Aguero.
I am not sure where he is these days or if his football is up to scratch anymore but surely with the way everyone went crazy for him last time out, he must be worth looking into again!

RedOz

I agree lol.

Chipkin9 (EIRE)

PS: I assume you don't get to watch the English Premier League much in Australia?

He moved to Manchester City in summer (Our summer :0)

Australia's coverage of the Premier League is probably far supererior to the UK's. I watch every single Liverpool game live, at any god-forsaken hour of the morning without fail.
Pretty sure it was "Kun" that went to City - not "Ken"

RedOz

Ah, Me too, never miss a game thanks to the interwebs.

So anyway I don't even know if there is a player called "Ken" Aguero, that actually exists. Google says "Do you mean Kun Aguero"? And there's no profile of him.

Do you know who he plays for? Maybe the Eds could clear it up?

Chipkin9 (EIRE) {Ed002's Note - I recall Ken is Kun's lesser known brother. It transpired that all the fans who thought it was Kun that was going to sign last year were disappointed to find out it was actually Ken Liverpool were after.}

Nevermind...it's to do with a rumour saying "Ken Aguero spotted at Anfield".

lol, I feel stupid now.

Chipkin9 (EIRE) {Ed002's Note - Not as stupid as you would with "Coentrao spotted buying telvision license stamps in Knotty Ash."}

Not missed any games in canada. always on

My apologies to all. I just couldn't resist sparking up some more talk of "Ken" Aguero. Last time around it was a hoot!

5am my time - tomorrow morning - see you all there.
Come on Big Andy - a couple against your old club will kick start your season.

RedOz

Thx for that RedOz haha.

Hook, Line and Sinker mate ;0)

Fair does. Just hope we're not after Ben Aguero next, he's useless compared to Kun and Ken!

Chipkin9 (EIRE)

Oh - no way - Ben shouldn't even be mentioned in the same sentence!
In fact I would say that thier sister "Jen" is a better player than "Ben"

RedOz

My 3rd cousin once removed works at the club shop and he said they have started printing shirts with Ken's name on the back

Soldado
Ba
Cahill
Alonso

I'd definately take Ba and Soldado!

Ba is terrific. But he'll be going to the ACON with Senegal. Maybe in the summer?

Alonso will not be returning and Cahill is useless and waaaaay overated (no offence to him).

If he were anywhere near good enough, Bolton wouldn't be in the relegation zone!

I can only hope and pray that these rumours of Darren Bent are not true. This is not the way to take the club forward.

Ash

Yes , 20 odd million for bent whos nearly 28 , or 10- 13 million on luuk de jong who can play as attacking midfielder or forward , whos 21 and looks the pefect fit for lpool and suarez , i know who i want.............lfc

Darren Bent will as good as guarantee us 20 goals a season, you'd have to be mad to not want that

Chris in Tamworth

Loan Carroll to Villa as part of the Bent deal (if we are interested). So he could get valuable game time and hopefully gets a few goals, to boost his confidence. Both Bent and De Jong signing in January, would be a good January for us imo. We don't know what's going to happen with Luis. So maybe getting 2 strikers in this window, would be something for us to consider.

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96 {Ed005's Note - Would agree with most of that - Carroll needs confidence more than anything. However I'd rather just get a striker or two in and offload Carroll completly. My opinion though!}

Ed005 i think carrol will prove to be a good player we should give him time to get used to it...i admit that even i hate him sometimes but i see a hell of a lot of potential in him, dunno if thats just me lol...but bent should be a no no would rather spend less on luuk de jong who looks good or spend more on soldado who is amazing

I wud only take bent only in a direct swap with carrol. Podolski or de jong r better options.
Indian Buzzer

I agree completely with lfc.. De Jong is a better investment and if I recall we are building for the future - no quick expensive fixes - thats what FSG said. Plus I think De Jong will fit right into the EPL he has the right attributes, quick, skillful, can head the ball and is strong..

Bent does get goals anyone can tell you that but he getting on, we have Bellamy as our experienced older striker.

YNWA jns

I think you're right Indian Buzzer. I would definitely swap Carroll for Bent, but I wouldn't fork out another £20 million on Bent. @Chris, he may get us goals, but I just feel that everyone has a price, and the price for Bent would be too expensive and feel there are better options out there with more potential.

Ideally, we would ditch Carroll and sign Soldado. In a perfect world.

Re an earlier question from Dirks Engine Room about Bent, sorry it's taken a while to get back but I've spent the evening at a party with a few villa fans amongst the guests and they all seem convinced that Liverpool are seriously in for Bent with Carroll going on loan the other way as a sweetner. Not sure I'm convinced but that is the talk

Chris in Tamworth

Cheers Chris.

It will be interesting to see what happens.

Not exactly a rumour as such but just thought i'd like to share with you a link to the liverpoolecho's website, truly emphasising what a great man and true liverpool legend Rafael Benitez is:

www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/liverpool-fc/liverpool-fc-news/2011/12/30/former-liverpool-fc-boss-rafa-benitez-gives-additional-financial-donation-to-support-hillsborough-familes-100252-30031817/

Hope you can all agree, that this is a truly fantastic gesture and will be so greatly appreciated by the friends and families of the tragic 96 YNWA.

Yeah, fantastic gesture. As long as he does not come any close to Anfield as manager...

Not Liverpool related but I've gotta say it'll be great to see the brilliant Henry back in the prem, I wish he was joining us. This could be a Wenger masterstroke
