Not transfer related but just to let you know went to the arena last night and what a faantastic show a concise look at 112 years of reds history and all accompanied by songs and chants from the terraces brilliant performances all around and a rousing rendition of ynwa at the end and then onto the stage belting out fields of anfield road strode barney rubble and phil neal proudly carrying our very own european cup. Emotional.
Also pay tribute to nick ault for thewonderful portrayal of the despair and horror we all felt after heysel and hillsborough

Nice surprise when Ron Yeats & Ronnie Evans came on with our european cup.
All new players should watch this to realise what it means to play for us,

Going to be an interesting game tomorrow that IMO we have to win.
Spurs were poor against West Ham; v Good against QPR.
If we can beat them it would show the man City result was a loss against a v good team and that we still have a better team than most.
With some of the results (Man City, Man U) this weekend a win would be v important.

hey lfc fans.
champions league.my predictions are good home performances its where Liverpool will pick most of their points.
but I don't see any away wins because sometimes the manager reminds me of mancini and wenger. just stubborn to change the team tactically to be more resolute, defensive. keep things tight. benitez was awesome at that to give.
and they all seem to play only one way. despite brendan changing formation
the same for the league. lots of away losses this season i'm afraid in my opinion

We have soo much quality up.front. I hope our.defense is rectified this season. We conceded a shocking amount of goals. If strikers aren't firing they get.dropped and it should be the same at the.back. Some of our defending has been criminal and.championship quailty. I would love.skittles to be dropped for sako or toure and Steve clarke back( which won't happen) but we had.a.great.record with him.
Believable9

Until we realize that the issue is our midfield, specifically Gerrard we will keep leaking goals. We allow too much space between the channels. We can stick at the back the best 2 CBs (eg Hummels and Benatia) and we will still leak goals if the defensive midfield position is not fixed.
Agree2

Spot on power I seen it happen too many times last season, but we had a player who could make up for it now he has gone the expectation falls on mario, he will help but he won't do the same so we have to stop teams pouring through our midfield, because mingolet does not fill me with confidence the way reina once did, if we had a very good keeper then he would give the defence a boost

Just to move the discussions away from the recent bickering for a moment.
I was wondering how ed001 and Ed002 choose to respond to certain questions from posters.
I see Ed002 dedicates most of his time to answering questions on here, as ed001 is a busy man, but do the eds tend to leave questions in limbo, and not post the question as they think another ed is more informed about replying?
Or is it more like; as the posts come in, whoever is "on call" answers them.
I imagine a large cloud of questions that come in, and Ed002 leaving a few in limbo that Ed001 is more qualified to answer, and vice versa.
Or do the eds email/instant message one another with questions suited to them?
What about harry's questions? I suppose there is a special database monitored by GCHQ dedicated just to harry's posts.
And a database monitored by FSG for all of ozone and waro's posts!

First of all, my best wishes to Daniel.
As for the song for Balotelli, it's actually really obvious:
Remember when you were young, you shone like the sun.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Now there's a look in your eyes, like black holes in the sky.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
You were caught in the crossfire of childhood and stardom, blown on the steel breeze.
Come on you target for faraway laughter, come on you stranger, you legend, you martyr, and shine!
You reached for the secret too soon, shot fireworks in your bathroom.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Threatened by shadows at night, and exposed in the light.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Well you wore out your welcome with random precision, rode on the steel breeze.
Come on you raver, you seer of visions, come on you painter, you piper, you prisoner, and shine!
And I only had to change one line

I don't buy into all this RCB and LCB lark, a good centre half can play in both positions. I used to play both and didn't bother me which side I was on. Sakho and Lovren can play together. Sakho does not fill me with confidence though and I would not of gone for him personally. Skrtle is a good defender and gives 100% but makes to many mistakes, can be rash and calamitous too.
In short Lovren should be first in the team sheet and I don't think it matters who you put with him because I wouldn't rate any of them highly playing our system.

He`s a good defender for a team that defends deep, not for a team that plays a high line where positioning, pace and communication is required just like the Costa Rican defence at the WC who played w/ a high line and had bar Neuer, the best GK at the WC in K. Daniel Agger was my favourite LFC defender until the addition of Dejan Lovren. The one thing everyone should respect is that this guy told the club last year that he'll not join any other PL club. That's called loyalty.Too bad he was too injury prone, but he was one of the best CBs in the world.

That day-tripper poll is so true.
There are too many of you who just love to be associated to your big clubs like a trend.
Look at City now, Chelsea, Utd and Liverpool.
All great clubs with an identity which has been smothered by a fickle bandwagon mentality of cling-ons.
Harsh but true.
It's not everyone of course, but how many of you have sat there and cringed at some of the persons sat beside you?
Shameful at times, isn't it?
Yes, we all pay our inflated ticket prices (brought on of course by the insatiable demand of your day-trippers), and, yes, we're all entitled to act in which way we deem appropriate, but come on, stay at home and leave it to the true football fans.
I'm sure the club shop, hotels and bars think differently though.

Stupid point to be honest I lived an hour or so from Liverpool and visited a fair amounts of games although living with just a mum and sister who weren't into football and being young at the time I sometimes struggled to get to as many games as i'd want I now live in Scotland and will still try and get down to Atleast a couple games a year but you're making out that the fact not everyone can visit every game somehow makes them less of a fan which is actually a rather childish way to look at it.
Agree0
Disagree0
{Ed001's Note - he hasn't said anything of the sort. He is talking about day trippers, those that just sit and take photos or record the games on their phone, rather than joining in with the songs and going to watch the game. It doesn't matter how many games you get to see, it is how you act when there that matters.}
And from under his stone he returns.
Agree0
Disagree0
So would I be one of your "day trippers"? Brought up on the south coast. Mum an ardent LFC fan, dad not interested in football. Closest team to watch matches was Brighton at the old Goldstone ground. Supported Liverpool since I could walk and was indoctrinated into the LFC ways during the mid 80's. after 15 years of a few 500 mile round trips a season to see my team I bit the bullet and actually moved to Liverpool to try to get to more games but still could barely get any more tickets apart from walk ups and touts so ended up watching most down in Concert Square or local pubs. Most tickets I could ever get hold of were in quieter sections, never been able tot get on the Kop but still sing my heart out.
I spent 7 days crossing europe through Turkey, sleeping on the docks in Kos to get to the '07 Final and then turning round and doing the opposite to get home again because you couldn't get a flight into Athens for less than 3 months wages, but was still buzzing by the time I got back to England.
But because I'm not a scouser or a season ticket holder I'm the reason there's no atmosphere!?
Whether the fans are new because we're doing well, live in singapore, malaysia or Kenya they're still our fans and every one of them should be welcome. I'm sure there's a few thousand new additions in Boston alone and I'm very glad of it because every piece of merchandise and every ticket or online subscription sold helps the club to attract the best players. If those same fans aren't supporting in ten years so be it you can't choose who supports your club anymore than you can choose who likes your favourite band. The nature of "fandom" is fickle and the nature of fans is everyone wants to be the first and the biggest and anyone who discovers your love after you is regarded as inferior. There was an 18 year old on here last night raving because this was the best team he'd seen play "in his lifetime" yet he got shot down by some old fellas because his lifetime was too short for him to be a proper fan or know anything in their eyes. Pathetic!
if YOU don't like the atmosphere at games then change it! I never know anyone who I sit with or travel with but I damn well get them singing by the time I leave and have made some great friends too. Not everyone can do that, It's intimidating enough for most people walking into a pub crowded with locals on their own let alone a football ground for the first time with 45,000 strangers!
There's plenty of griping and moaning old timers at Anfield who love nothing more than a whinge. If you're one of the pompous little blinkered whingers (trying hard there EDs!) sitting there moaning about how things used to be better under Parry and Rafa or quietly wishing Kenny was still in charge and sitting scowling at the bloke cheering in a non scouse accent annoyed that success means he has to pay more for your tickets these days so your old mate Fred that you used to sit next to can't afford to come anymore so you have to sit next to that noisy "glory chasing southern day tripper" then maybe you need to stop being such a judgemental tool and start welcoming people that love the same thing you do and make Anfield a great place to be for ANY red rather than an intimidating and unwelcoming place with a silent atmosphere. We make the place what it is from 8 years old to 80, no matter what the team is doing Anfield should always rock, that's our responsibility as the 12th man so the next time you moan at a player for not putting in the effort or everyone else for it being too quiet think if you've done your bit too.

For a Poll of the day has anyone posted this,
Gerrard to be used as impact sub and Can to start as the DM.
I just think Gerrard could be used in a more attacked role later on in games and I feel Can should be put in now and let him take the role he was bought for, he is strong, very fast and I think will offer more protection to the back four. Gerrard would be a great attacking option to have come off the bench

I totally agree mate, Gerrards a legend he loves to go forward always has. The added value for the team is for him to come on around the 60th minute in a more advanced role. Can gets the experience in epl in his preferred role and Gerrards gets to attack and score goals, goals goals.

I can understand why Liverpool might have agreed to sell anger for £3. He has been a great servant unlike some of the footballers in today's age. He could have left for a champions league club but did not. {Ed001's Note - Agger didn't get offers because he was not interested in anyone other than us or Brondby. Why is that an issue? The lad has been a fantastic servant to the club, rejected many offers to stick by us and now we have allowed him to make the move of his choice as a thank you.}
Ed, u misunderstood my point. If you read my post, you will find that you have just confirmed the point I was making EXCEPT for the "no offers" part of it. Why is everybody complaining about the Agger deal? Yes he was worth more than what he was sold for, but he wasn't playing for us and he's happy at home now. We could have got more than 3m, but then again so could United with Vidic, who went for even less, nothing in fact. 3m for an injury prone player not playing regularly has to be expected. Gutted to see him leave as he was my favourite player behind Stevie, but that's football. He has been a great servant to the club and deserves the utmost respect from the club and us fans. Yes I know that but that's my point. Agger was a backup player for us and we got 3m for him, Vidic and Ferdinand who have been United's main centre back pairing for years left for nothing. Without Agger (little game time) we achieved 2nd in the Premier league, without Ferdinand and Vidic United haven't won a premier league game since they left. I'm just pointing out the importance of the players, we got 3m for a backup player, whereas United got nothing for key part of there first team. So its not all doom and gloom!

Questions for the Eds
1. Do you think the players we brought in have improved us to the extent that we are not only stronger than last year.
2. The squad should now be winning the PL (second last year so should be pushing on).
3. Are there players you would have loved to see come to the club (not the Messi's of this world but players you feel were/ are needed after looking at last season.
4. Is there a position that you would be worried about either the first choice player or their back up?
All, please feel free to add your opinions too.

Much needed depth has been added with a lot of potential with the younger lads. Balo is a surprise but if pirlo says the guys chilled out a bit fair play and realistically with our pay structure etc versus quality Balo may be as good as we can get.
Sadly chelsea and city both had squads that only needed a couple of additions and both have resolved those positions with top notch players, for me a good season would be 3rd with a good run in the champs league
Personally I'd of liked Medel
Main concern this season is so many new faces, hopefully Brendan can a) keep them happy b) work out a first eleven c) return to the fluency of last season quickly. If I had to say one single position, and I mean had to, I'd have to say GK

Suso on for a new contract or off for free.
Suso "Liverpool are not likely to sell me and I do not want to leave either. What I would like is to stay here.
"In December I will be free agent but what I want is to renew here. I am very happy. I know the city and the club and I would like to stay.
"I only have one year left on my contract so I can not go out on loan.
"The club have tried to renew me and I want to renew. But I have other offers too. It will depend on how things move forward this season. A player wants to play, it's what I want too. We've only played three games so let's be patient.
"I believe I've become a more complete player during my loan spell at Almeria. That was the goal when I decided to go, to improve as a player and be more ready for this season at Liverpool. "
Has Rodgers given this young talent his chance? Especially as Lallana was unavailable against saints.
Will We lose Suso for nothing? Ask Brendan.

I think he's Sterling's back up on the right. He'll get a few games to prove himself and if he does well it could lead to good things. He performed admirably in preseason, showing a lot more vigor for the game than a few of our midfielders I could mention.

Ed 001, what's your opinion on di Maria and sakho?
Could you give an in depth answer on both individual players if you have time, thanks!
Believable0
Unbelievable0
Well di maria is a Virgo, likes walks on the beach and quiet nights reading Tolstoy, dislikes techno and people who jump queues. .who doesn't eh?! Personally I find him intriguing but disagree with his aversion to the classics
sakho is more a free mind, not constricted by the "24 hour community", he walks a mindful path, fave TV programme. . Button moon. He's alright he is
Agree4
Disagree2
Why do you care about Di Maria? He's just another over rated attacker who was made to look good by his team mates in 2 very defensively weak leagues. Barely worth £20m let alone £60m. He'll flop just like Ozil did. I still expect him to have good games (like Ozil) but he won't even be half as effective and his wages are a joke. A good player, but nowhere close to world class. He's just a hard worker who gets a cross perfect once in every 10 attempts. He won't have Ronaldo and Benzema to aim at this season though.
Sakho needs to play alongside Lovren or he should leave. He is way to good to be on the bench behind Skrtel. I'm absolutely astonished by Rodgers lack of defensive understanding. It's like he genuinely thinks Skrtel and Johnson are good players.
Agree8
Disagree1
Maria isn't that overrated. Yes he gives the ball away a lot but that's becaise he takes the game to the opposition, he'll run at players at any opportunity, and okay, maybe he'll give it away 2/3 times but the third he'll create a chance for himself or others. Liverpool fans are so quick to dismiss other teams players. Sanchez for example, 5 games for arsenal and I read someone say 'we've dodged a bullet there.'
Ems wait ten games, then if you're right, I will apologise, and I hope I am wrong. But you can't write off a player like that straight away. I don't think he'll single handedly change united, but he is a quality player.

The reason he's going to Brondby - it's his decision as he doesn't feel he's up to it in the premier or la liga because of his injury record and the physical element of a more competitive league and Brondby can only afford a few million. The club wanted to sell him for a lot more ie Barca etc.Fenway aren't happy as they felt they could have got more.

I can think of Gerrard, Owen, Fowler, Carager, Sterling?
while Kegan, Dalglish, Rush, Barnes, Beardsles, Torres were all baught?
Point being just how good is our youth set-up? I Would have really loved us to find another Owen or Fowler than rather than buy Mario. But there does not seem to be anything coming through.

I think part of the problem is based around people's high expectations and low patience thresholds. The game doesn't seem to allow natural progression anymore, players need to be "shamazing" before a risk is taken or get in through injury/suspension. Managers have a gun to their heads due to media, fickle fans on social media screaming for blood if they pick someone to play that doesn't score a "Barnsie" on their debut!
Disposability, ruthlessness, product, franchise all words that didn't mean squat compared to the values I remember in footy. Y'know. when all this was fields by-gum.

I really do hope Rodgers goes with Lovren at RCB and Sakho at LCB tomorrow.
I was expecting Sakho to start alongside Lovren from the off as Lovren is naturally right footed but it seems he prefers Skrtel over Sakho which to me is very strange as Sakho in my humble opinion is superior and fits our defensive setup much better.
If Skrtel is not fit for the City match and Rodgers selects Toure instead of Sakho then the message is clear that we wasted a huge amount of cash on Sakho. let's not forget that Sakho can play RCB too as he did at PSG so that is another sign that that Rodgers may not fancy Sakho for some reason or just just not trust him. Sakho is first choice for France ain't he?
Sure we do not see what goes on in training etc but when Johnson who has been our worst defender for quite some time now is selected ahead of Manquillo who had a brilliant debut and not deserving of the drop to the bench then clearly there is a problem.
I am normally not part of the negative brigade but if Rodgers does not start getting his back four selection right then it will be his and LFC's downfall for the 2014/15 season.
Believable13

I am actually more excited about Sakho and Lovren starting as a centre half pairing than Balo making his debut. If we can keep a clean sheet against Spurs who have been on a goalscoring spree with Sakho putting in a solid performance, then hopefully BR will give our 40 million GBP centre halves a chance to make the position their own on a regular basis.

Massive game tomorrow. A win and we can say it is a good start fo the season, totally forget about the City game and hope and believe the team will only become better with all the new signing jel together (and also hopefully silent this ridiculus debate in my view about BR sucess in promoting youth as if he is working in the youth department in Liverpool City Council or something and not a professional team manager who should bring trophies). Losing and we are 6 points behind Spurs, maybe even behind ManU despit their awful start, and have two weeks to cook ourselves in a lot of pressure, negativity and never ending discussion of the Suarez loss. I will be very happy with a win, but I think based on what I saw in the first two games from both teams, I will take a draw. I also realy hope that BR will start with Baloteli - but have a feeling he will start him on the bench as he often does with new signings, a bit conservative for me. I am sure Di Maria will start for ManUnited and I think Mario should start for us.

hello eds,
though Brendan rodgers is a good manager, still he doesn't have an eye to spot a talent. there is a good possibility to make it into top four but we lack the stability required by a team to win cups.
1.we should buy a DM.
2. Mignolet was supposed to be upgrade on Reina, but he is inconsistent and nervy against good teams. so if not in this then in next transfer window we should buy a goalkeeper. and Can is more like a box-2-box player rather than a player to protect back four.

We do not want a dm as this position no longer exists in the Liverpool way of playing that's why lucas is going.
yes agree I would like to see somebody come into the position currently held by gerrard if only to see him move forward more often.
but the player we need should be composed on the ball and be a confident passer more in the role of a deep lying playmaker.
the defensive duties should not be placed in the hands of one player the team starting with the front 3 needs to defend better as a team then and only then will we progress as a team going forward as well

Some surprising and interesting posts on the "Brendaned" topics.
How many players have made it to the first team in the last 10 years? Not that many.
If FSG need Champions league and top 3 or 4 finish; will playing youngsters who may or may not make it keep Brendan in a job?
I'm playing devils advocate.
Do I think we have spent a lot / too much money on players - probably; if we win the league or get top 3 for the next four years will I care - No.
Why did Sterling and Flanagan get an opportunity when these other talented youngsters didn't?
Was Sterling performing like he has recently; the year before last or the beginning of last season? No.
Was Flanagan likely to be first team material at the beginning of last season? Nope we couldn't get someone to take him on loan.
Can we afford 2 success stories and 8 non success stories? Nope and a new manager will come in and bring his own set of players.
Peterson may have made it; Robinson has regressed according to the Ed; Suso wanted assurances over first team football, etc. etc.
Maybe the plan is to play some of the recent signings for two years and sell for a profit when some of the current crop of youngsters are deemed ready. Who knows.
Ilori and Alberto have been managed badly so I can understand the critisism.
By the same token this is a manager who is v young and having to learn. Maybe he thinks this is the best way and if someone is good enough maybe they will get a chance.
So in summary; be apprehensive; be annoyed due to FFP the wages we are paying and number of 1st team players we have etc.
But let's see what happens at the end of the season - no one will be complaining if we are close to winning the league, do well in the champions league and sell Markovic for £60m.
We have a right to be frustrated; but how can we be critical when we are 2.5% into the season (if that).
