To Ian the Red

Hello mate. I read you post regarding your Mother.

I'm currently working on a containership and was told last week quite out of the blue that my Mother has a terminal illness. It is liver cancer.

She is 73 and without follow up treatment will have around 8 weeks. She is now in pain everyday. I am going home tomorrow. I burst into tears quite a few times here. Waking up to the reality everyday is horrible.

So I really do wish for your Mother a successful operation nd healthy life thereafter. I don't wish this pain on anybody. Its a horrible and helpless feeling.

All the very best

Andy Spriggs

did anyone come up with a song or sturridge yet? I've been trying to think of a tune and all I can come up with that his surname will fitinto is one from south park :/

Believable0 Unbelievable0

For sterling I had the song titanium! got the chorus obviously but trying to figure out the rest of the lyrics but keep getting distracted by the very economically priced arna I just purchased :)

Check the LFCDaytrippers podcast from last week (could be the week before).
They have a quality song for him ready to go.

Evening all.

I know some people on here will disagree but I've been really impressed with Joe Allen. It's his positivity that's really impressed me.

Watching the first few matches I've been frustrated at times with the midfield just passing a ball from defence straight back to them. This often gave the opposition the chance to pressurise our back 4 and keeper and ultimately we lost possession.

Allen nearly always turned after receiving the pass and played the ball to our forwards, in turn getting us behind the opposition midfield.

It's a shame that once Lallana is fully match fit, allen will be the one most likely replaced. His partnership with Henderson in our high tempo pressing is fantastic. I really rate the player.

Believable29 Unbelievable2

It's nice to have a squad where there is quality for each position.

Agree12 Disagree0

Gordy, I couldn't agree more. His ability to recieve the ball in tight spaces then offload it to the likes of Sterling and Sturridge is massively under appreciated by many fans.

He must be a nightmare to play against as he's always looking to face up his opponent and put them on the backfoot.

He's a great squad/first team player for us, perfect for the passing game that Rodgers advocates.

Agree12 Disagree0

02 Sep 2014 23:53:01
I agree with all the comments especially him being a nightmare. He's got some fight in him for a wee lad. Not afraid to get the bll of anyone, often resulting in him giving away a foul. I don't mind that though if he gives it a go

Agree2 Disagree0

03 Sep 2014 08:59:19
Allen's a very good squad player, particularly for away match formations. He always puts in a shift and presents a good image of the club. His runs from midfield have won us penalties at OT and the Lane. Good lad, we need players with his energy and attitude, glad we have him.

Agree1 Disagree0

I completely agree with you when you say Allen is quality and he always like to go forward but he shoots very rarely on goal and when he does they are most of the time off target. Also how can you say that Allen is better than Lallana when we have not yet seen him with a ball in an LFC shirt.

If you play 2 up front, you need 4 players who can play up front. Borini staying won't be a bad thing. I just hope rodgers would consider starting lambert and Borini occasionally and keep the same formation.

Believable10 Unbelievable1

02 Sep 2014 19:44:12
Nice one Borrini lad.

You're still under contract and you are well within your rights to stay.

Mark my words, we will need this lad soon and he will shine.

Believable17 Unbelievable3

Davey I agree mate, we have not seen how good he is, he has not had the game time with us to see how good he is or how good he can be, some people say he should leave, I think GJ should leave, he is on massive wages and he does not play well he keeps making the same mistakes, maybe a clause gives him the I don't care attitude because he knows no matter how many mistakes he makes or how bad he plays he knows he will be picked, after our last game it showed everyone what our back line should be, let's see if he get picked as soon as he is fit and manquillo gets dropped, in my eyes flanno and manquillo are a lot better than GJ

Agree12 Disagree0

What a load of nonsense. He couldn't hit a barn door. I don't know who he thinks he is, he should be thankful the likes of Synderland and QPR have paid interest in him. I don't see his standards any higher than the championship personally.

Agree2 Disagree12

I imagine he thinks he's a Liverpool player with a contract until June 2017, Ozone.

Agree6 Disagree0

I have to say we would need a heap of injuries before Borini gets a game. I can see no benifit for him not playing or even getting on the bench. I would love to be proven wrong tho.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Sep 2014 18:12:32
“Liverpool didn’t accept and then QPR made an offer to buy him immediately. But the proposal for the player was not a proposal for an important player.

Eds can u explain this to me it's about the QPR deal for borini I just don't get the important player bit can u enlighten me?

Believable5 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I don't know where the quote is from but I suspect an agent. What it means is that the deal offered was not acceptable to the player - who perhaps rates his abilities higher than some folks, and demands a package that reflects the abilities he has. His agent will continue to look for a deal in Italy for him.}

I see cheers ed appreciate that!

Agree1 Disagree0

It's what it's always about mate. Money. In other words I'll not even make the bench for 6 months at Liverpool but sod playing football for a another Premier League team and instantly become the hero to all the little kids and hear the fans sing my name, when I can just sit at home raking in all this money every week, watch all my money pile up whilst my career fizzles into nothingness. #winner

Agree3 Disagree6

Or maybe he will still be a success in the future, and the manager still believes in him. I'm sure if he was "Brendaned", he would accept most offers. We won't know until he plays.

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't sit on the fence Dbol. Say what you really feel mate.

Agree1 Disagree0

It sounds to me like he wasn't guaranteed a start every week so chose to take his chances here rather than risk spending the season on the bench at QPR.
It's not about money. I would of done the same thing, Even if QPR were offering a wee bit more money haha

Ed001, thoughts on Sunday's game? In particular I'd like your thoughts on the performances of Sakho and Balotelli (I know you aren't convinced by his signing, though it is early days). I thought I'd sent this the other day but perhaps not.

Personally thought it was a great team performance, with everyone playing their part. The CB pairing looked a little shaky at the start but for their first game together I thought they played very well. Balotelli did everything except score, worked hard and played well.

Thanks Ed.

P.s. To all Eds, particualrly Ed002 thanks for your hard work during the window!

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - He is not around right now Dan - maybe tomorrow or the next day. Keep it greasy.}

02 Sep 2014 16:48:51
Hi fellow reds,
I wanted to find out everyone's opinions on M.Sakho. He looked very good in the World Cup for France but anytime he plays for Liverpool he looks nervous and lacking in confidence. I think he has the potential to be an excellent player for Liverpool but needs to up his game. On Sunday against Spurs he came more and more into the game but his start didn't fill me with confidence.
Nigel Y.N.W.A

Believable8 Unbelievable0

He has the potential to be a great centre half, but just needs to calm himself down, hoping that him and Lovren works out.

Also think they need more protection in front of them, would love to see the big lad Can as defensive midfield as he has the physique and the nouse to do it.

We really just need a settled defence realy, Manquillo, Lovren, Sakho and Moreno could be a really good back four.

Agree7 Disagree3

02 Sep 2014 17:23:49
In a way you contradicted your self. You said he didn't feel you with confidence and he's lacking in confidence yet he came more into the game as it went on. Surely it's obvious he just needs playing time?

Agree6 Disagree0

He's a bit like MIGNOLET were you alway's get the impression an accident is waiting to happen, and it normally does, ending in a goal. .

Agree1 Disagree18

A good run in the team might well help him show what he is all about. With Skrtel out injured for 4 weeks, he has the chance to show just that.

Agree6 Disagree0

02 Sep 2014 17:54:21
I'd echo what Mr Dennis says. Potentially great, has the raw attributes, pace, power, decent on the ball and a good instinct for his age.

But he has a rash streak in him. At times his thought process seems to be "I'm going to try to get to the ball first regardless of whether I can reach it or there's someone in my way", that's going to (& has) result in being caught out of position or give away fouls. He needs to read the game a little bit better and know when he can't do that or when he doesn't need to.

Now on the whole I thought he was decent last season, so he doesn't have far to go to be a top defender, imo.

Agree3 Disagree1

Sakho gave the ball away twice all game from what I can remember. Can't we just applaud the fact that Tottenham pressed really well and made it hard for us to play out from the back?

All this shakey nonsense as well. Tottenham had two chances; Adebayors chip and Chadli's volley. If your defence restricts a supposed Champions league spot rival to just 2 chances in 90 minutes, they're doing just fine.

You can't expect them to have 100% pass completion or never get exposed by what is simply good attacking play. The best teams will find a way through you every so often. Even if you have Neuer, Lahm, Ramos, Kompany and Alaba in defence; you'll still concede a few chances every game. That's just football. They coped well and they got the clean sheet. It really is that simple.

First clean sheet in nearly 10 games comes when Skrtel and Johnson are missing. Coincidence?

Agree16 Disagree3

He's a big girls blouse! (only joking) he needs to lose the fear factor and read the game better, we need a settled defense now and it will improve.

Agree3 Disagree0

I think Sakho just needs to play a lot more games, like anything else in life the more you do something the better you get, he has the potential so to get that potential out of him he needs to play a whole season, then he will get better and his confidence will come and with that we will have the best CB pairing in the prem its down to BR to play him, and thatgoes for all the other with potential,

Agree2 Disagree0

Agree about his rushing in, needing to read the game better.
Maybe he needs to adjust to the speed of the league, which is much quicker than the International game.
Give him a sustained run, in a back four which doesn't change each week and we might start to see the form he produces for France, which I think we all agree is very good.

Agree1 Disagree0

If it was skrtel who gave the ball away twice, would you dare say we should applaud spurs pressing.don't be biased and speak the truth

Agree4 Disagree3

Adam, if you don't think that Sakho looked shaky on sunday then you were watching a different game than the rest of us.

Spurs mightn't have created much, but that wasn't solely down to a rock solid back four, far from it.

Agree3 Disagree1

The truth is out there Jessie.
Lay off your own stash pal ;0)

Agree0 Disagree0

He just needs to form an understanding and partnership with lovren.
He's already a good enough defender as he is and will only improve with experience, age and after forming that partnership.

Agree3 Disagree0

Yes Jessie agreed, just the same as Lovren pulling adabeyors shirt which should have been a pen but no one mentions it, if it was Skrtel.

Agree0 Disagree2

I see more mistakes in Skrtel than I see mistakes in Sakho.

Agree4 Disagree0

The difference is, Sakho recovers when he concedes possession. Also, Sakho is a 24 year old with less than 30 premier league games. Skrtel is nearly 30 and has hundreds of games experience. The same applies to Lovren.

Besides, comparing Lovrens little disguised tug on the shirt to Skrtels wrestling is ridiculous. All defenders hold their men in the box. It's those who make it obvious who are the bad defenders. Skrtel might as well put a WWE belt around his waist and shout 'tombstone!'.

Agree1 Disagree0

Sakho is a good defender but he sometimes overdo in his control and shooting. He also needs game time to perform efficiently and I think his partnership with Lovren will click very soon and our back will be ok.

Agree1 Disagree0

02 Sep 2014 16:47:40
Well I figured I'd try it out.

We all know that we can win with Sturridge, Sturridge.
Chances are he'll score again it's sturridge sturridge
His left foot is like a gun, he scores goals just for fun
He shoots he scores, we win it's Danny sturridge.

Maybe for those that want a new last line, you could throw in "we go again". There are a few different tones this could adapt.

Apologies if this has been already mentioned, but my understanding was that Falcao and indeed Welbeck were NOT completed by the deadline last night.
Why then were these deals allowed go through?
I believe the premier league allowed extensions for both clubs to complete the deal. Is this a case of certain clubs getting preferential treatment?
I mean, either there is a deadline or there isn't surely?!
Saying all this they both seem like odd decisions by both clubs.
Utd need a midfield and defence. so they buy Falcao?!
Arsenal badly needed a striker and although Welbeck is an improvement on the young lad they have up front at the moment, he's hardly prolific?!

Believable1 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - stop moaning, every club has the option to ask for an extension if required. It happens every single window, but your ignorance is showing because you have only noticed now it is United and Arsenal using the extension.}

It is perfectly legitimate to use the extension if you complete the correct paperwork and all parties are happy to conclude the deal. So no big deal to me, our business was concluded ages ago and i'm happy with that.

Edd001 who in your opinion has had the best.window?. I would have.to say Chelsea, and united as the possibile worst of they fail to finish outside the top 4

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - best? Impossible to say, on paper you would have to say Hull, but they might all be disasters. Worst? Again difficult, but Villa look like a relegation team with the crap they have brought in.}

Whilst I agree Senderos is absolutely awful, they seem to be doing alright. At the moment anyway

Agree1 Disagree0

Crap is a harsh word. Maybe "deadwood" is preferable.

Agree0 Disagree1

Aston Villa's back 4 are: Hutton, Senderos, Vlaar, Cissokho.

Sooner rather than later, they will be found out.

Agree5 Disagree0

Hull had a great window, in my opinion. Diame for ~£3.5M is a good deal and if they can get Ben Arfa to actually play football he'll do well. Be interesting to see how Abel Hernandez gets on as well.

Agree2 Disagree0

Big Al, I've retread your OP several times, I think you mean finish outside the top 4 but I'm not entirely sure.

The best window for me was Chelsea, they identified their weaknesses early and bought quality, all while spending very little money.

Sanchez was a great signing for Arsenal and whilst United fans generally love Welbeck, we're not convinced he will help them much.

I don't know enough of some of your signings but you've strengthened on top of finishing 2nd last year and look today again.

United are clearly making a statement or panicking (take your pick) and it will take time to bed everyone in but it's long overdue and is likely to be a hoot.

Personally, can't see anyone but Chelsea winning the League this year.

That should say you look tidy again

Having been an avid reader of this site for a long while now, feeling much like a peeper, always watching - no action, I have finally put my curtain twitching days behind me and registered. Hi everyone, my names Alex and i'm a Liverpool supporter.

Now that the transfer window is finally closed, I can say that, in general, I am happy with how the club conducted its business this summer. Although still a bit worried about the financial aspect of increased wages going forward etc I think we have bought well to increase squad size and give better options from the bench.

I am looking forward to watching the reds this season, competing on all fronts, and playing the beautiful attacking football I grew up watching.

I was looking over the suggestions for songs for a few of the players and wanted to offer my own efforts.

To the tune of the Adams family:

Hes big and full of courage,
He makes defenders worry,
His name is Danny Sturridge,
Hes Liverpool FC.

Or perhaps, to the tune of the song Monster (whats that coming over the hill)

Whos that wearing our number nine,
Its Ricky Lambert, its Ricky Lambert

As you can tell, songwriting is not my forte.

What do you get paid at work, let's assume £30,000 for arguments sake. If a less reputable company came in for you, but it was a promotion in terms of job role and they wanted to pay you £20,000, would you take it?

People need to realise that this is their career at the end of the day and even though they get paid a ridiculous amount as it is, people grow accustomed to what they earn. It is essentially the clubs fault for putting these players on the salaries they are on.

We cannot expect every player to be willing to move for the love of playing etc. We also cannot assume that he doesn't genuinely want to stay and fight for a place. Henderson was told he could leave, and decided to stay and fight for his place, as did Flanagan, look at them now. I'm not suggesting the same will happen with Borini, people just need to look outside the box and try and see it from the players perspective.

I'm also not suggesting that I agree with Borini, the club could have done with the money and reduced wages. I also believe that he could do with going out and playing regularly at his age and don't believe that he will make it here (unfortunately as I have always believed he would). I will not, however, say that he is a b***ard or p**k etc as I think that is a little bit over the top and quite frankly, a naïve and pathetic way to see things.

Btw, I'm not saying you, Big Al, have said all the above.

Agree4 Disagree0

Your right,, mate

Agree3 Disagree0

He only gets around £45kpw at Liverpool, QPR offered him £58kpw.

But its done so there is no point going on about it. looking at the touch fixture list we have coming up a stretch of games where we have like 7 games in a row, 6 games in a row, 8 games in a row, with 3-4 day breaks in between. Players like Borini & Suso will come in handy when we want to rest players but not lose quality on the pitch.

Exactly boom, if he's so confident in his own ability you move on when not wanted and put yourself in the shop window like coates has I hope he has a great season I think he's got amazing abilaty but just doesn't suit rodgers style
Borini is never on this earth worth 90k a week.

If he wants to stay and genuinely fight for a place then I wish him all the best. Remember mcmanaman when Madrid wanted to sell him? The fans loved him even more for staying and fighting for his place.

Or maybe harry he just backed his ability and thought through hard work he could force his way in? How did that work for Henderson?

CTR

You ain't getting the point. Henderson had no clue of his exit till the last day. Borini knew He isn't wanted by BR as early as August.
If there was a slightest indication of his inclusion, We wouldn't have entertained a bid from QPR at the very last minute.
I am also not sure, If He has fallen out with BR, then its another Reina all over.

I feel for the player and would have walked out from the club and proved my b*** outside.

Pogba is doing at Juventus.

Agree0 Disagree3

Perhaps he just didn't get the move he was looking for, Harry? I'm near positive if an acceptable bid had come in for a destination he wanted (say in Italy) he would have likely left, but his options were Sunderland and QPR. No disrespect, but neither are exactly looking like guaranteed PL clubs at the moment, so I can't fault his apparent ask of a big payday at least from the one as it's a bit of a gamble to go there, in the same way I'd expect to be paid quite a bit more going to work for a start-up rather than an established company.

A bit of a sad day that a United supporter is the one sticking up for our players on here.

Agree4 Disagree0

No, you don't get it Boom. It takes two sides (the club and the player) to make an entry into the team. And it takes two sides (the club and the player) for the player to make an exit while a contract is in force. Everything else is whining. You didn't complain much last summer when the club forced Suarez to stay against his wishes and respect his contract. And now that the shoe is on the other foot you expect Borini to just walk away, tail between the legs? Take off the rose tinted glasses, Einstein.

Agree4 Disagree0

Hes out his depth an not good enough he needs to grow a pair an get on with it.

How u can quite compare Pogba situation to borini is astounding to say the least mate.

It does not matter whether borini knew or Henderson the fact is maybe he feels if he works hard he much like Henderson has he may have a future at anfield? Right now if he leaves its a step down, brenda signed him & maybe borini feels he hasn't been given a chance?

Or he could of joined qpr got in a relegation battle, left if they got relegated, been called a mercenary and joined another club!

Agree5 Disagree0

Lots of people wrote off Henderson, he refused a deadline day deal to Fulham and now look where he is. We have potentially 60 games this season and his ability to play forward or wide forward will be a bonus, Aspas or Borini? It's a no brainer.

Agree2 Disagree0

Is he only on 45k per week? Poor fella, how does he survive on that?

Greetings Eds& Fellow Reds

Want to say cheers to the Eds great job managing the usual madness & paranoia coming up to deadline day.

Overall happy with our business, I think we have a better squad that last season and have decent cover in most positions .

Lots of work to do to get top 4 in my view . I think that we have to realise that in terms of squad development we are a year or two behind Citey & Chelsea . Rome wasnt built in a day and neither will this team under BR .

I do think we have enough to make a challenge if the squad gels sonner rather than later .I would add a word of caution that BR has some big decisions to make this year .

1) Stevie G must be managed well in terms of his playing time . He will be vital in Champions league and may need to play less in the prem . We must give Can playing time he looks like a real player who maybe needs to be a bit more streetwise in regards to discipline, this requires game game

2) Defence, need to have an established CB partnership .I think that Lovren will play so finding another starter who will get the shirt automatically is key .I also think that Lovren needs to talk more he is strong and dominant but seems to always want to win the ball even when its maybe not ther eto be won.

2) Sturidge & Ballotelli . Looked good against spurs together but 2 up front will not work in every game .

Overall just happy that the focus will; now be on the pitch and like last year am feeling confident that we will give the Mancs neck pains as they look up the table at us this year!

YNWA

Believable4 Unbelievable2

Lovren talks constantly throughout the game.

The problem with the diamond is that it gives space on the flanks to the opposition, but I still think it is the most effective formation for us, allowing us to field 2 up top and play a good mixture of defensive and offensive midfielders.

Agree3 Disagree0

Agree with The real AG here.
Lovren is by far the most vocal at the back so I'm not sure why you are saying he needs to talk more?
He is constantly organising the back 4 and is showing real leadership from the back, something we sorely missed last season and something that Carra was world class at.

Just curious, is anyone worried about Man UTDs window? Despite the money spent and names attached, I'm neither envious nor panicking about the rivalry between our clubs. Does anyone else feel the same? I think part of it is down to our window being so productive.

Believable14 Unbelievable0

I can see them improving over time but they haven't addressed there problems.

U could see how isolated Rooney & rvp were against burnley because there mid is awful, no point signing di Maria & falcao if you never have the ball or can't defend.

I think our team is in a different league to there's right now, we have balance.

With utd It's like a woman who needs heart surgery but got a boob job instead.

Agree13 Disagree1

United where always going to do what they have just done. The longer they stay out of the champions league the harder it will be for them to get back in.

Probably the only one I would have had out of there buys would be falcao.

I seen on there banter page saying only sakho and henderson/gerrard would make there team. There living in dream world sterling and sturridge would walk straight into that team and also lovren.

Agree3 Disagree0

At least the deadline day business has stopped them harping on about the pre season cup and the Adidas kit deal ha ha

Believable1 Unbelievable0

United are far from stronger. They lost Giggs, Scholes, Vidic, Ferdinand and Evra over the last 2 seasons and have only replaced Giggs and arguably Evra with genuine qaulity.

How do you accomodate Mata, Rooney, Januzaj, Herrera and Di Maria in the same team? Are Blind and Fletcher really a world class holding midfield pair and can they even afford to play Blind there?

They have some excellent inidividuals, but a complete lack of balance with the two key components missing; a midfield general and a dominant centre back.

Blind will liekly be shoehorned into centre back. Rojo will also be shoehorned into centre back despite clearly being better at left back. Their partner? The world class Phil Jones! So a midfield of Fletcher, Mata and Di Maria it is then? I reckon even a Tony Pulis team could cut through that side with a pair of safety scissors! No leadership, no tenacity, no power and no tactical awareness. Boy this is going to be fun :') Rooney and Falcao/Van Persie (whoever's fit enough to walk) are going to be feeding off scraps! You can't mount an attack without a team to anchor it. Van Gaal deserves a medal if he gets them into the top 8 because I personally think it will be:
City
Liverpool
Chelsea
Arsenal
Everton
Spurs
Southampton
Swansea

Having seen every teams business completed and looked at each squad, I genuinely don't think United are better than any of those teams. In fact, I'd go as far to say Newcastle and Stoke have a good chance of finishing above them! I wonder what odds I'd get on United finishing outside the top 10?

Van Gaal will be gone by Chritmas.

Morning eds, not so much the drama we come to expect of a transfer deadline day. Hope you guys all managed your selves ok & didn't get any abuse frm fans asking why ain't there club going for such and such a player?
A question if I may? Don't wanna discuss transfer fees, taxes or agent fees so on because I have no idea what transfers entail but was wondering if you guys know if our wage bill has risen much after this window? I understand we have bought super mario & a few other players that might be on significant wages but we seem to have moved on a few, Suarez being the main contributor & I suspect reina & agger were on a few bob too? Not to mention Moses & cissoko loans coming to an end plus loaning out a fair few ourself. I'm hoping the eds can answer this & it won't attract abuse frm fans.
Well done all the people who run this site including all the eds we don't here frm as much u guys must have had to siev through so much rubbish yesterday.
Cheers kj

Believable0 Unbelievable2

{Ed002's Note - The wages are indeed up.}

02 Sep 2014 11:40:37
Nobody knows the details of the wages so imo even if eds say wages r up its a pure guess a lot of high earners have left and new contracts r success related I would guess they r down with a bit of room for 1r2 additions in Jan.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed002's Note - Actually it is not a guess. Wages are up based on data the club submitted for the transfers. It was a simple calculation to deduct those late loanees. Perhaps one thing the Liverpool fans are not aware of is that the increase agreed to Suarez's new contract earlier in the year did not kick in until this season.}

02 Sep 2014 12:04:33
Ed I don't mean to be smart here but data about transfers does that include info on a player's wages surely they have a right to some privacy.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed002's Note - The wage data is submitted and recorded by the authorities. It is part of the data that subsequently has to be provided separately for the purposes of FFP (which cares specifically about the wage bill for the playing staff - as well as for the club as a whole). This has been the case since the beginning of the 2011/12 season.}

In general, of the 20 PL teams this season, has any team reduced their wage bills?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I am not going to get in to this. Sorry.}

Can't believe people think borini stayed to fight for his place he stayed because neither of the interested parties wanted to pay his wages & he'd rather be 4th choice picking up a big wage than playing football. However if I was given a 5 year contract to do a job & be extremely well paid to do nothing I wouldn't leave a day early either.

Believable6 Unbelievable4

02 Sep 2014 11:42:40

Borini for some reason has in his head that he's this world class striker and wants to play for a big team. He needs to understand he's not.
But he's here this season so let's support him!

Agree3 Disagree3

02 Sep 2014 12:08:30
Tommy

Henderson hadnt had a clue on his exit untill the last day.
Borini was given the green light by the club and Manger as early as August. What was he doing all these 30 days is beyond me.
If He wants to fight for a place, The club wouldn't have accepted a late bid of QPR.
He has also made Sunderland fans against him.

Agree2 Disagree1

Let us look at the positives of keeping Borini.

1. I think BR wants to compete in all tournaments, hence more games.
2. Sturridge is injury prone
3. Balotelli has a tendency to pick up red cards.
4. I dunno if Lambert can play a full 90 min. It is said he has a bad back

If both Sturridge and Balotelli is unavailable, then we are going to have a tough time. I also think that Balo and sturridge can´t play all our games, so to maintain their fitness, using Borini wouldn´t be a bad idea.
I think he will have the same role as Javier hernandez when he played for Man U. He didn´t get a lot of games but he had a decent goal to match ratio.

Agree3 Disagree0

It is none of that. He wants to go back to Italy and the Italian teams couldn't afford him this summer. In January, maybe he will go on loan to Italy.

Chelsea has only one striker ( out and out ) upfront to comepte on all fronts.
What happens if Costa gets Injured?. Fixtures postponed aah?

Agree0 Disagree2

Boom, I´m not sure what you´re trying to point out. The Chelsea situation has nothing to do with us.

Sure we can compare them to us, but it´s hard to compare LFC to CFC since we have different philosophies.

You say that Costa is their only striker. I´m sure Loic Remy and Drogba would be offended by that statement. Second CFC can play different formation with success. So can LFC, but 4-1-2-1-2 is the most prolific. That is the formation we played when Suarez was a LFC player, and we did great. We also played 4-3-3, but I don´t think it works that great without Suarez.
I would also say that only having three recognized strikers is a gamble if CFC wants to compete on all fronts. The thing is that Costa is like suarez in the sense that he never gets injured, and when he does, he is back the next week. Also, CFC usually only play with one striker in their formation.

So comparing CFC to LFC makes little to no sense, since our playing styles differs.

Agree1 Disagree0

Playing style has nothing to do with Strikers, Whether you play 4-4-2 or 4-2-3-1. You need a striker.
Chelsea have only 3 strikers and until yesterday, Torres was their back up If Costa were to be rested.

And TBH, They would be competing on all 4 fronts like us.

Are they going to continue to be left out of the squad until january or maybe to be given a chance? as I feel both cup competitions could really provide the opportunity to prove themselves.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

There not going to play, it's all up to how they train now. They want to stay and play with the big boys so they've got to prove there good enough.
They will get games In the league cup.

Agree0 Disagree0

They will of course be training with the senior squad. But it seems like a tall order to win a place on the bench ahead of the likes of Markovic, Lallana, Sterling, Coutinho, Balotelli, Lambert and Sturridge.

The same goes for Lucas, who is now the 5th choice central midfield player now behind Gerrard, Henderson, Allen and Emre Can; and it is worth noting that we can play with 2 central midfield players with 1 of Lallana, Coutinho making the 3rd central midfield spot.

League Cup ties are there best hope: to get into the bench.

And when I said Ibe needs a loan, people said they want Ibe to stay as "cover".

Arsenal and Spurs have been big time dissapointment. don't see Spurs in the top 4 for many years. Arsenal ll have to play Metersacker at the back or even Flamini, If someone gets injured.

We had a quiet final day but a busy summer, our acquisitions team closed 41 deals, can you remember them all?-

11 Arrivals ( Lambert, Lallana, Can, Markovic, Manquillo, Moreno, Kevin Stewart, Lawrence Vigouroux, Divock Origi, Dejan Lovren, Mario Balotelli )

11 Loans ( Wisdom, Teixeira, Ilori, Assaidi, Smith, Coates, Aspas, Paez, Origi, Ibe, Luis Alberto )

11 Transfers out ( Suarez, Coady, Kelly, Reina, Hodzic, Robinson, Adorjan, Agger, Petersen, Cissokho, Moses )

8 Released ( Roddan, Mersin, Baio, Bijev, Sama, Sokolik, N'Goo, Mukendi )

I'm not being disrespectful to either in thinking their long term futures lay elsewhere but while they continue to wear the Liverbird with pride I will give them and the rest of our Team my full support . Good times ahead my fellow Reds .

I have been kinda off the radar for the last 3/4 days as I was at the Electric Picnic over here in Ireland. Was catching up on the Spurs game and just general stuff on ssn yesterday when I noticed on Liverpool's outgoings that Dan Agger left for Brondby for 3 mil. Gutted to see him go. In this day and age with all the mercenaries that are floating about the game he was a true legendwho really loved the club.
And it says a lot for him too that he went back to his home-town club, when he genuinely could have went on to play for another top club. You'll be missed Dagger. YNWA

Once again, massive thankyou to the Eds for all your work and your patience through another transfer window.

Just imagine if all we had for transfer news was the likes of .
It's enough to give you nightmares ;-)

Many thanks eds for guiding us through another transfer window without too many of us flipping out.

Great banter reds. Keep it up this season :)

ps - eds, I think the 'agree/disagree' buttons have been a success. They add another dimension - to allow an idea of what other posters are feeling on issues of the day. Thanks again x

He knows where he stands, the club made it clear, accepted 2 bids and he stayed knowing Brendan has told players who he wanted to move on there time would be very very limited, he won't get a kick for this, wait and see, if a player dosnt move after all this it tells a lot about his character, fighting to prove himself, he has no chance and knows it! Thanks again all, c u January!

Hi fellow reds / eds,

It feels so good to be sitting back watching transfer deadline day with all of Liverpool's deals done a while ago. It wasn't so long ago that we were all p. d about the clubs failure to sign Clint Dempsey - now look where we are.

I'm not one of those fans who get hyped about any signing (Borini, Assaidi etc) but I have to say that BR and FSG have done a fantastic job this summer. yes we've overpaid for a few players (who doesn't these days) but the depth and quality has improved dramatically, we are finally in a position where we can focus on signing one or two players in future windows (top quality defensive midfielder still needed) as opposed to worrying about the lack of quality and what will happen if we lose one of our few top drawer players.

I think the result at spurs reminded people (including so many pundits) just how many attacking options we have - we could seriously challenge for the title again this season if BR can work on the defensive unit (Moreno, Lovren, Sakho and Manquillo have so much potential). I note that Ed002 has made some interesting comments about players being 'brendaned' but I don't think anyone in their right mind can argue with the sustained improvement over last few years.

I for one am delighted with where we are now - thankyou BR and FSG - YNWA

Thanks to you and the endless work of the Eds, this is the only site where fans can actually find some facts, as opposed to the pure speculation that fills so much of the internet.

And whatever you do, do NOT let the internet haters get to you. Typing from behind a keyboard makes people very aggressive and very stupid, to a point you would never see if they were talking to you in person.

The readers of this site know you are 100% straight and barring a couple if internet morons, we really appreciate you sharing what info you get.

It would be a sad day indeed if we ever lost the info on this site, and had to rely on

Really happy Suso has stayed for now. Hope he is given a fair chance now as I think he has talent. Also nice to see lucas staying as well, always liked him even if his form has been off for a while.
Cheers

If he can prove to the manager he should be picked over Markovic, Coutinho, Lallana, Sterling, he would have done very well.

But, I suspect, like Borini and to some extent, Lucas, he will have to concentrate on trying to get into the bench first.

I saw a similar Sturridge song on here, here's my version :)

We took the lad from Chelsea now he's ours, he's ours

Hes quick as f***, he loves the club, He dances when he does the studge

Anyone know if Sterling is going to take 11 or 7 maybe seeing as they're both free? Tbh think he deserves 7, what a player he is.

Believable4 Unbelievable1

No. He is going to stick with 31.

Agree1 Disagree0

02 Sep 2014 08:16:12
He is good enough for 7 r most iconic number.

Agree0 Disagree0

He doesn't want the 7 or the 11. These days, players stick with the numbers they start with or have had luck with. Markovic 50, Balotelli 45, Sterling 31, Sturridge 15 are all examples in our own team.

I am sure Sturridge was good enough for the no. 9 but he never wanted to change his number 15 either.

Just wanted to say I'm really happy with all are business this summer and I think we're finally in the category of every window just looking at one top players for are weak positions, instead of having.to stretch.say.40mil over 6 positions, if we need a Dm we can go and get a player to just come straight.in! Like Chelsea this summer, needed 3 positions filling.boom got them done!

I don't mean real rejects for 40 mil btw to appease the fans!

And I don't know about.anyone else but didn't it feel good not going Omg we need that player in and bricking it because the deadlines approaching, felt good know Brendan and ayre are sipping ice tea on the lawn watching.the great Jim white haha

And finally absolutely ecstatic about.suso, boring and lucas staying. I just hope suso gets a chance because I think he's class and In such aa settled team now think he would shine at tip of diamond. Eds help me out though is suso going.to get a chance, or were we trying to move him on today?!

Sorry for the full stops in all or this btw, typing on my phone and I've had to shrink typing box to see the.words but it's to small to remove full stops.

Of to bed haha

Why is everybody complaining about Fabio staying? Fair enough he won't get a lot of game time with us, but he's still a good player to have as backup. People calling him greedy and an idiot for not wanting to move to a lesser club. Why would he want that after being at Roma and Liverpool? He said he wants to stay and fight for his place so let's give him a chance. Don't forget the same thing happened with Jordan Henderson and he is the first name on the team sheet now. No need for the name calling, let's encourage him, get behind him and who knows, he may surprise us. If it doesn't work out then he will eventually move on. He had a great season on loan at Sunderland last season so he atleast deserves a chance to prove himself. I'm hoping he proves everyone wrong! Come on Fabio!

Believable15 Unbelievable0

Totally agree, it will be a long and hard season, us being involved thankfully in several competitions, you just never know! It's good to have some options to fall back on in case of injury or whatnot! Let's show Borini what YNWA means, as long he's a read and wants to be here!

Agree2 Disagree0

If it doesn't work out at a bigger club, the obvious choice to move somewhere where you would get playing time. Borini will largely be a spectator at LFC at least until January, when I suspect one of the Italian side will get him on a loan.

I am not one of the ones calling him all those bad things by the way. I just don't see how from a sporting perspective, Borini could be helped at LFC.

Agree0 Disagree0

Well according to the news he agreed to the move in prinpicle but the deal fell on wage demands. So he prefers to get a higher salary and not play. And we are not talking about coming off the bench but not seeing any game time.Yes, everything can happen but in all honesty he needs a massive series of injuries to even come from the bench. If he is not playing it will be even harder to convince big teams to consider him. If he dosen't play I think the club will put a lot o pressure for him to leave on January - and if he moves then what did he get from staying now?
Btw, if the deal was a loan one, and it was the wage demands that failed it, you would think maybe it was in LFC's interest to pay the difference and at least save most of his salary (assuming he wants to get what he is paid now, and not more). But they probably don't want to create precendents.

Borini should have completed a move in the window, He was given green light to move as early as july.
I don't know what was he doing all these days.
He would also be a villain for Sunderland fans, Who waited whole 2 months for him.

If borini is wanting to prove himself, deserves a chance. Respect him for not wanting to take the easy way out and join a club just cause he won't be in the starting Xl, fair play to him.

Believable13 Unbelievable0

The reason he's still here is because QPR wouldn't pay him £90,000 a week. Don't pretend otherwise.
