Thanks for everything this summer eds. The work you put in is insane, whether it be calming down a surge of posters who've been told by Twitter that messi's set to sign for the rest of his life, providing much-needed Information on realistic targets (also a heartfelt thank you to YNWAdam in that department), or forcing many visitors to the site to crack up in general as you somehow retort humorously to the doom and gloom easily found on here (take a bow ed002!) All your work is really appreciated by anyone to come across these pages with a real love for Liverpool football club, or even anybody anywhere with any dignity.

Luis Alberto
Aspas
Llori
Mignolet
Sakho
Toure

Cissokho and Moses on loan.

I reckon that represents a good window.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Also probably our strongest attacking line up of players since Aldridge, Barnes, Beardsley and Houghton, any combination of what we have is awesome bit concerned that we are a bit light in CM but Toure can cover that.

Fantastic work all you Edbots! Great window with some brilliant signings. Sakho is going to be beast! Very happy man. YNWA

I feel like we have sent Borini out to the dogs really. Loaning him to a struggling side with a mad man for a manager will not do him any good.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He won't get any game time at LFC and Di Canio will play his compatriot.

Agree0 Disagree0

I hope not for Borini sake, but am inclined to agree, I could understand Altodores (may have misspelled) going there, it is a real gamble in his career.

Just a little thanks to Ed002 for answering all my questions today! A relief to survive I imagine (the window - not my questions, although the latter must be hard enough).

And hope Ed001 is well.

Cheers

Thanks Eds especially Ed02 for your hard work and information during this window.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

02 Sep 2013 23:37:57
Thanks Eds, for what has been a busy and potentially stressful transfer window for you, after all the abuse regarding Suarez and Willian etc. All of your work is greatly appreciated, as it is a very well run website.

Also, would like to congratulate LFC on one of the best transfer windows I've seen them have in a long while. Signings like Sakho, Mignolet, Toure and Aspas could be just what we need for a serious top four challenge.

YNWA

Believable0 Unbelievable0

These are the results when you have a strategy and stick to it come rain or shine.

Agree0 Disagree0

I wonder if we had got Mkhitaryan, whether we would still have Suarez, or any of the other real and targetted forwards for that matter? Suarez is still a very, very good player we have who I assumed we wouldn't have. Suarez, Coutinho, Sturridge, Aspas is a very threatening forward four + Sterling, Ibe, Alberto, Yesil, Sinclair, Morgan and I guess Hendo, as next options.

02 Sep 2013 23:15:24
Thanks Eds for your tireless work. Kept us in the loop at this crazy time. It was a good window for us. Ed002, do you think Moses will be a success this season? {Ed002's Note - He will be a decent addition to the squad. He his PipCo's hero - and of course PipCo is no living with #WonderDogSparky.}

27.5 mill for Fellaini. wow. mental prices nowadays
YNWA JFT96

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Actually, I think he is worth more than that. He should be in the 30-35 million range.

To put things in perspective, Lucas is worth 45 million. Sterling is worth 25 million or so. Suarez around 68 million pounds.

Agree0 Disagree0

If Sterling is worth 25million I would sell him to whatever person club was paying it. He is certainly not worth that much. Maybe 10 - 12mil but not 25mil.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Sep 2013 23:18:26
Hats off to FSG, Ian Ayre and our manager. Earlier in the window I questioned if posturing over Suarez was a good idea and feared us going back on our word and selling him. Good to their word, they didn't. Granted its more due to a lack of a significant bid, but he will play and I don't believe he won't work for the team. We have played our hand superbly. We are fans of the greatest team in the world and we will always want more. But right now, we are looking healthy and suddenly our future is bright. I look forward to the rest of the season and hope our form continues.

Finally, many thanks to the Ed's who have put up with our incessant need for answers. Good work!

Just a quick one, many thanks to all the eds for answering questions and sharing their knowledge. You guys and all your hard work is worth keeping this site going, much appreciated. To all those who abuse the eds (ed002 about suarez in particular) because they share info which you don't want to hear but is still true, give it a rest please or go away. What would you rather, lies just like the press? Looking forward to no more transfer talk and a great season!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

02 Sep 2013 23:07:14
Although I'm happy to have Moses in the squad I don't think we should have taken out the loan unless there was an option to buy at the end of the season.

At the moment its a no-win situation for us and its almost certain that he will only be here one season. If he performs badly, we wouldn't be interested in him. If, as I expect, he goes down a storm there is no way Chelsea would sell him to us.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

But his 1 year window here can allow Ibe and Sterling to develop and Borini to find his feet in Sunderland. Maybe that his the real points behind the loan deal.

I suspect Chelsea don't want to sell him either. At least not yet.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Sep 2013 23:05:52
Eds, the window shuts at 11pm but does it really shut or is still going on for a few hours. How does the fa decide when no more deals can be made? {Ed001's Note - it shuts at 11pm but that is the time the paperwork must be submitted by, it takes days for the FA to sort it all out.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

On sky it's saying west brom are trying to thrash out a deal for lakuku. How could they have the paperwork submitted with no decision being finalised?

Agree0 Disagree0

But if he thinks that he would be stuck on the bench and regress he may put a transfer request, so could go the other way equally!

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Sep 2013 00:19:24
There is a particular page at the front of the document which has to be received by 11pm. They then have to recieve the rest of the document by midnight for international deals, or 1am for national deals

Agree0 Disagree0

Cheers for that.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

02 Sep 2013 22:57:57
Good window, surprised at no late Suarez bid, happy with the strength of the squad compared to previous seasons and looking forward to seeing how it all pans out,
Think we've been smart in the market with both ins and outs and Rodgers own squad is now taking shape,
Also for those thinking we need another midfielder/winger. don't forget we have Sterling/Ibe/Teixera/etc etc etc all milling around the squad now and capable of having a say in the season,
Futures bright fellas, small steps but going forward.
YNWA JFT96

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We had a stronger 11 when we had Alonso, Mascherano, Gerrard with Torres but the squad was thin and in hindsight that and the United penalties were just too much to pinch the League for us, but now the squad depth and youth is something great to build with, even if Moses is going back to Chelsea and we loose Suarez next Summer, we have lots of squad depth and again we've gotten off to a flyer but it's going to take time, patience and mistakes for the younger players to learn and become great players. There has been gloom for 4 seasons and now it's boom and bloom.

So it's not the best 11 we've seen in recent years but certainly the better squad moving forward, a crappy comparison but that's where we were and this is now, we have lots to do but hopefully we can really make a dent in the league table and push on with this fine form and benefit from Rodgers revolution, as that's what I feel has happened. I still think fourth place is a tall order, every season it seem to become harder and harder but let's give it are damned best shot. We are winning and not playing great for the whole 90 mins, let's hope that we hit top gear early and with the new found depth not suffer any burn out. Tall ask but it's what we all want. YNWA and here's to a really positive window and the rest of the season.

Agree0 Disagree0

We have a real group now which we couldn`t say we had in the past. Everyone is on the same page and knows what their jobs are.We now have a system and structure which will be beneficial in the long term. Thanks to the owners and BR for their progressive approach.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Sep 2013 22:53:37

Thanks {Ed002's Note - The fans fantasise about Torres mainly.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

02 Sep 2013 23:18:31
Usually match previews and reviews, humorous Liverpool related stories, debates on players (ours and others) - and when the times are tough, suicide-inducing moans about who we should have bought, who should be kicked out (FSG, Ayre, Rodgers, etc) and which players aren't good enough.

To balance it out though, there is the occasional banter with other fans, and overly optimistic posts too.

Agree0 Disagree0

Well, on your behalf, thank god Suarez stayed eh?!

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed002, can't you have a word with Roman to send him off to Siberia or somehwere. maybe then some can get over the fact he left! Out of sight.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree0 Disagree0

And don't forget ken aguero

Agree0 Disagree0

January transfer rumours start tomorrow, there is always someone old or so so that is linked on a free transfer in between and like Ed/s mentioned a lot of Torres coveting.

02 Sep 2013 22:49:58
Think we're a bit short up front if anyone gets injured, can't see the logic in the borini loan deal.thought we might of got an experienced left winger in but Suarez can play out there.cant move Sturridge now can we.think we've done good business so far, better squad, just short of attacking options I think.!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Oh the pearl clutching!

Assuming that's it for the Summer pantomime we call the transfer window. I'm absolutely ecstatic with our business;
We've got the best defence in the League. Aly Cissokho, Kolo Toure, Daniel Agger, Martin Skrtel, Martin Kelly, Norman Wisdom, Mama Sakho, Tiago Ilori, Glen Johnson and Jose Enrique!
It will take a fleet of bulldozers to get past that lot and behind them we've got a really top keeper!
Our midfield has more balance and grit than we've been able to boast for years. I really like Luis Alberto and I'm delighted with the form of Lucas Leiva and Jordan Henderson. Joe Allen is also starting to come good and Gerro is loving the "new Liverpool".
Victor Moses is a fantastic addition and Sterling and Ibe will be allowed to develop more steadily.
Iago Aspas and Philipe Coutinho are clearly a step up in class for us and we have two of the most prolific forwards around in Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez at our disposal.
Okay, we might've signed another forward or creative midfielder but we really can't complain. The business over the summer has been shrewd and beneficial.
Big thumbs-up to Ian Ayre and the backroom staff for their hard work.
Can't wait for the next game but thank God for the international-break as it gives us time to get the likes of Sturridge, Johnson, Toure and Cissokho a bit more fit.
If all else fails we've got some incredible youngsters on the sidelines. oh, and we're top of the League so let's get behind the "project" . it's working!
ANFIELDPETE

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Asps in particulr is a very clever player with good vision and movement. But needs some support too because there were situations on sun where he made good runs but Sturridge never passed to him. Even Graeme LeSaux (ccommentator) made the point.

Good transfer window, great start to the season and i'm happy with the squad we have. I still don't think we will get CL but I think we will put up a better fight and compete for CL places through out the season.

Stan Collymore asked the question should Luis Suarez walk straight back into starting 11, taking into account how he has conducted himself and the form of DS? I put it to the floor. All the best.

Great Day again today after a brilliant transfer window by Liverpool, well done to BR and the board for the seven signings plus the stance taken on keeping Suarez, relaxing now having a glass of Vino to celebrate all the work done by the EDS on this site!

Also loving the way the Mancs and Arsenal are struggling to get deals done - UTD are going backwards now and long may it continue - watch the pressure build and build for Moyes - They may get Fellaini but I don't think that's the answer he will be banned for most of the season the way he plays!

Terrific job Eds - Hope you get a few days off for your efforts! Thanks Again - :)

So. another window without a marquee signing, signal of intent whatever, don't get me wrong happy with a couple of the signings and defo seein us getting top 4 or there abouts, just really concerned about the cissoko loan, can't understand why it wasnt a permo, especially when the player wanted the move and so did Valencia for a pretty small fee an all, and Moses with no option to buy is even stranger and with borini gone we only have Sturridge and aspas until luis back, think we really coulda done with a striker who proven at the top level, just wanted to ask the eds if any of my concerns are warranted and if we were close to getting anyone other than those mentioned all summer?
Great job as usual eds! {Ed001's Note - Cissokho had not been playing well since his move, so he was taken on loan to give him a chance to prove he can get his form back.}

02 Sep 2013 21:51:25
Getting towards the end of the window. Looks as though we have done all our business. We have made some pretty impressive signings and this could be our best transfer window for many a year.

I think that John Henry deserves a massive round of applause. He has backed Brendan in the market and he has faced down Arsenal with his "what are they smoking at the Emirates" He has slammed to door on Suarez and told him that he was not going anywhere and he told Real Madrid not to bother calling back with any more offers for our number 7. Even Daniel Levy could not match that.

John Henry is learning fast what this strange world of football business is about.

John Henry has got better players in through the door on sensible wages.

We know it is going to be difficult to get back to where we want to be but it really does look as though we are moving in the right direction. Good times ahead.

Top of the league and Bill Shankly's 100 birthday. Big smiles all around.

Scared reporters at the various grounds. Could there be one final cheeky player before 23.00hrs? I have a feeling there could be.

Christian Purslow has just told a story on how he had to hold Ryan Babel's hand for nearly 2 hours during a flight to London in 2010. Apparently Ryan is scared of flying but never told Christian until the flight had taken off and started to freak out in the back of a small jet from Speke to East London. It was when a London club made a significant offer for Babel which needed finalising in London, so they flew down. The deal fell through in the end.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Babel is from Amsterdam. You'd think he'd be used to being high. {Ed001's Note - it also should be pointed out that most people knew that, hence why it was a joke being played on Sly when they said he was in a helicopter flying all round the country on deadline day.}

it looks like our Transfer business is all Completed.

Shame I would of loved to see us get that Left sided attacking goal scoring midfielder that Rodgers kept going on about, Moses to me is a squad player not the goal scoring midfielder that we needed on the left to allow Coutinho to play AM.

Overall though as long as Suarez stays than i'm happy with the window, Sakho is the stand out buy for me and i'm soo glad we went for him instead of Papa.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

What are you on about?

Moses is exactly that Left sided attacking goal scoring midfielder that Rodgers kept going on about.
Extremely pleased to have him in the squad. Just because he isn't a £30 million signing doesn't mean he isn't a goalscoring threat.

Can't believe Shane long for £5m to Hull City. I rate him and for £5m is a bit of a bargain. Wouldn't mind him on are bench.

Ynwa {Ed023's Note - Irish people rate Long and I can tell you as an Irish man, Long isn't good enough}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

That is a fair point agree with the ed. Us Irish people love our own, I think that could be why all our players seem to play better for ireland

Agree0 Disagree0

Have to agree that he's not a Liverpool type player and I'm Irish.
Borini is better.

Agree0 Disagree0

I like Long for his work ethic and think that for £5 million Hull City have a good player, if it's going through? But he'd only ever be a back up for Liverpool and Long needs to work and feel his way into games to be effective, so it would never pay off. He had a purple patch and did quite well but once he was injured he's struggled to find form again.

We have Aspas, Suarez, Sturridge, Sterling, Ibe, Moses and Coutinho in the attacking end and we have some exciting youth that will need some football within the next year or two, we've loaned Borini out to get Prem game time because we've got enough, Long would be unused and unappreciated and even seen as a panic buy.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm Irish, I love long, but I don't see him as a Liverpool player. Although, I never liked Keane and he was here for a while, but he was a flop, so yeah.

gr8 2nd half in the u21 match. M.o.m Texeira with a fantastic free kick to level at 1-1. End to end stuff with both sides hitting the post. A draw a fair result in the end. Kelly and Sama switched positions too to good effect. Industrious display by morgan and dunn. Texeira was different class and was all over the pitch. I'm sure with some more game time and return to full fitness, these kind of performances will not go unnoticed by BR. Ryan McGlaughlin again also showed tremendous potential. Future looks bright for a lot of these young lads.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Romelu Lukaku is available for loan but Everton are in for him according to Football Focus on BBC

Believable0 Unbelievable0

If that's true we may have asked to loan the wrong chelsea player lukaku would be a quality signing for most teams loaning lukaku to everton makes more sense than loaning ba to arsenal less of threat not that I think chelsea see arsenal as a threat to there title ambitions but everton would be getting a good player there

Agree0 Disagree0

Giblet,
Arsenal wouldn't pay the required loan fee for Ba, Lukaku will get game time at Everton because they need a strker.

Hi ed's
Just my thoughts on the given deal if it happens.I don't understand the people criticising the deal? He won't be coming as number one but as back up. It won't cost the club a lot in the grand scheme of things. The lad has been arguably one of the best goalkeepers in the premier league over past 10 years or more. BR said a while back he wanted some experience players in the squad to compliment the youth we have. And finally, I personally think he will be excellent for Mignolet? Surely it can only be a good thing working with someone like given everyday in training and bleeding him of advice? A shrewd move if you ask me.

Got wind that 3 clubs have been in touch today about Suarez and each has been vehemently rebuffed.

Whether this is because we don't want to sell, or we can't find a replacement.

Personally I think the later, none of the rumours of Mata/Turan/Yarmolenko have born any fruit and the club is unlikely to be interested in letting Suarez leave and replacing him with anything less than the quality of the above.

I think that's us done, bar possibly a late move for a youngster we have looked at for a while and Given.

I would be very happy with that window.

So a few hours of the window left. any more business?

Answer:
There won't be much more. We may look to bring one more in and we're just waiting on the go-ahead for that from the other club, but apart from that we did a lot of work early and haven't tried to leave it all to this mad day which sees the whole of football go berserk

Another run out for Martin Kelly at heart of the defence. Ryan McLaughlin very impressive again and showing more versatility playing at left back tonight and Sama also playing at right back. Texeira playing well and will also help Ilori settle at the club having played together in nextgen series. All in all a very even 1st half with few chances at either end. Young Ward in goals has been very vocal and commanding his area to good effect. Looking forward to 2nd half and hopefully the attacking line can move the ball a bit quicker.

Agree0 Disagree0

Oezil is a very, very good player and worth quite a lot. How much that is is subjective, obviously, but I wouldn't say they've paid much over the odds if at all.

Agree0 Disagree0

Just shows how undervalued Suarez is in this market. If we do keep him, he gets 20-30 goals and keeps out of trouble we should be looking at 70-75M easy. one hopes {Ed002's Note - The market will not be anything like this next summer. This was always going to be the record breaking transfer window.}

Agree0 Disagree0

I think the whole world and his daag knows they overpaid for Bale

Agree0 Disagree0

Not worth the money, Arsenal fans are acting as though Ozil will win them the league. Good player no doubt, worth 42mil? Noooo way

Agree0 Disagree0

Ozil is a better player than Bale.
FACT

So if someone pays 85m pounds for Bale, then Ozil is definitely worth much more than 42 million pounds. FACT

The whole thing has gone insane.

Agree0 Disagree0

Suarez is undervalued by everyone else in football or overvalued by Liverpool supporters? Sturridge could conceivably get 20-30 goals, does that make him worth 70-75M?

Agree0 Disagree0

Arsenal need to buy anybody to keep fans happy, I wouldn't say ozil was a target untill he became available but at 42 million I think he is overpriced just the same as bale is at 86 million . wenger is so under pressure that he would pay top dollar for anyone decent and ozil is decent but not top drawer hence real letting him go

Agree0 Disagree0

How many seasons has Suarez scored over 20? Quite a few for a number of clubs, last time I checked he was also Uruguays all time leading scorer. Sturridge isn't quite there yet, but let's hope he does someday ;)

Agree0 Disagree0

He's worth at least £35m. Plus he's probably worth a bit more to arsenal because they needed to get someone in quickly.
Very good player and a coup for the gunners. {Ed001's Note - Ozil is incredible, creates so much, he is worth every penny of that and more.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Bale is a better player you clowns seriously some crazy people

Hi Eds, Just wondering if there is any other transfer deals to be done by today or any players we are strongly linked with and would like bringing in by the end of the deadline. Or any possible departures? Cheers {Ed002's Note - But you can't be bothered to read the posts?}

02 Sep 2013 17:56:24
Hey Eds,

not much time left on Deadline Day - has the expected bid (or bids) been put in for Suarez yet? {Ed002's Note - Not that I am aware.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

02 Sep 2013 17:50:25
If he's still here 2moro Rodgers and the little selfish one should do a press conference, Rodgers should give him one hard slap across the face and Suarez should say to the cameras I fully deserve that, then talk on uraguyan radio about how he deserved the slap and how sorry he is for being a tool. Then he should donate all the money he has made off us while he's been banned to UNICEF.
He will then be welcome here again. That's what it's going to take for me a very public slap across the face, he's a little too old to go on Rodgers lap. Lol {Ed002's Note - He is bigger than the club so why would he do that Mikley.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

In my opinion, If he meant what he said (which he did) then he shouldn't say sorry. As he meant to say it and that's how he feels and he doesn't need to apologise for his feelings and emotions.

Yes he has done a stinking thing, yes he has hurt all of his Liverpool fans for doing it, the same ones that stuck up for him throughout his time at Liverpool, but he decided that saying the things he said were more important than his relationship with the fans and the club. So saying sorry a month later after getting up and walking to your bosses desk and farting in his face and putting the video on youtube for the World to watch would be really disingenuous and unbelievably fake, as we all know he still wants out, so why hide it and lie once the cat is out of the bag!?

I don't want an apology, like some fallen from grace star, I want one more season of goals, assists and hard work with no dramas, which might just be impossible. :)

Agree0 Disagree0

Why exactly is he selfish for wanting to play for madrid?

i don't understand this

Agree0 Disagree0

Don`t understand the "he`s bigger thn the club" comment. He tried to engineer a move using every trick in the book and embarassing the heck out of us. We stood firm and said he could leave ONLY on our terms and no his and he`s bigger than the club? Sorry, will have to disagree with you there, bro. That is how you stick it to and ungrateful piece of work. Bowing to his demand like a good boy only makes you look weak and trust me (I leave in the US and follow sports especially the NFL), the owner will rather pay you to NOT play than cower to your demands. and BTW, We`re already bigger than him in two ways: a) we`re winning more games without him. b)We will let him leave on our conditions and not his. If those conditions aren`t met (which is likely), he stays and does what he`s paid to do in a professional manner, simple. You might want him to leave because he`s been a DF BUT bowing to his demands actually makes the club weaker and smaller. Also, you are sending out the wrong message to the dressing room another player will think that he can get away w/ the same thing. I know things like this are not common in footie but in American sports, the player has little to no power and when the owner steps in, I can guarantee you that the player will eat his words. Because its not common doesn`t make it wrong and I applaud lfc, BR and Henry for how they handled it. And like I had posted earlier on, if we start winning, Suare will be an after-thought and I have been proven right. GO REDS!

Hi Everyone,

I can't be any happier right now.

Watched the game 3 times. I keep checking the table and still smile like a kid when I see it. Its been a very nice weekend.

Loved seeing Gerrard in Van Persie's face yesterday. That exchange made my day. Stevie will always be a legend for how he plays but there is no better man in the game.

Fair play to Skrtel. To come in and play that well after barely training due to injury is class.

Marriner did well. The game was full blooded and he kept it together although I would have loved some United red cards.

Bring on Swansea!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I'm having a great weekend. Nothing beats taking the scalp from utd and then seeing Sakho, Llori and Moses signing. Looking forward to the rest of the season!

So confused to what's going on at the club what happened to the money for Willian. And getting a quality left winger
We need a quality attacking player to make this a good window me thinks.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

You really posted this? Have a think mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

What willian money?
Was there an envelope on Rodgers desk with £30m in it and it's gone missing? He wouldn't be so foolish to leave money about like that in Liverpool lol

Agree0 Disagree0

Well there quite is clearly no pleasing some people dear oh dear!

Agree0 Disagree0

Is that the money you handed to BR in a brown paper bag in the dark of night behind melwood?

Agree0 Disagree0

Whoo lads relax there now. No envelope but obviously there was money available for an attacking player. Never happy? I'm sorry but did you see our bench yesterday
Strong starting 11, but our whole
Bench was made up of youngsters
With our only two attacking options a 17 and 18 year. So with Moses and Suarez coming back that will make it better but What if Sturridge gets injured which is likely to happen then we have only have 1 senior striker and we are back to last year.
I just think we need another attacking player, that's my opinion

Agree0 Disagree0

So confused, Brendan's giving money to Willian in envelopes? Did he witness a murder or something?

Probably rubbish, but would be a very welcome addition. Do you know if this report is true. Thanks YNWA. {Ed002's Note - Bids for €27M and €30M have today been rejected. Alexis Sanchez - (Agger the other way)

Outs)
Borini - Loan to Sunderland
Wisdom - Loan to Wigan
Suarez - Player plus cash exchange to Chelsea

Can people please stop posting rubbish from twitter its getting tedious now. Even if we did have a set budget of £30m (even though its been repeatedly said there is no set budget) do you think someone from the club would randomly ring up a know blabber mouth on twitter and tell him?

With the two fantastic center back signing today surely Skrtel or Agger are on the way out, my guess would be Skrtel but you never know Barca have struggled to get a defender in maybe Agger is next on the list, not that i'm sure he'd even go.

Now for the rumoured attacker coming in, Mata would be fantastic in my opinion as good a signing as Arsenal getting Ozil.

Good luck ed's 11pm is looking a long way off and i'm sure its only a matter of time before Suarez's agent is reportedly spotted somewhere.

is there any truth in the reports linking us with a possible loan move for mata. would love it to happen but personally don't see it happening {Ed002's Note - Yes, there has been an enquiry about a loan.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Can that happen? Unless its a loan to buy now that we already have 1 player from Chelsea on loan? {Ed002's Note - It would need to be a loan to buy but it is not viable. The only way for this to work would be for Mata to say he wants to leave, and the club to make an acceptable bid. PSG has also enquired.}

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Sep 2013 16:06:38

Agree0 Disagree0

Why would we do this ed? thought you could only have 2 loan signings in the premier league ours being Cissokho and Moses {Ed002's Note - Four but only one from each club unless it is a "loan to buy".

Agree0 Disagree0

Well based on the responses here ed it was just a waste of everyones time

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed do you think LFC will make an attempt to sign Mata permanantly and I suppose he was looked at as a potential replacement for Suarez? {Ed002's Note - As I have already said, the only way for this to work would be for Mata to say he wants to leave, and the club to make an acceptable bid. PSG has also enquired.}

At least this shows Mata is on the clubs radar.
Stick in a £30 million bid and see whst happens, I can honestly say I'd poo myself if he signed. Top four would be nailed on.

Agree0 Disagree0

OK ed, another question - in your opinion, is the Liverpool interest in terms of Suarez leaving, or in terms of a high quality player suddenly becoming available (from our point of view). {Ed002's Note - I have no idea, it was simply a general enquiry about whether he would be available for a loan.}

With the signings of Tiago Ilori, Mamadou Sakho and Victor Moses I think it is safe to say our foray into the transfer window has ended.

That was until I saw Borini was leaving to join Sunderland on loan, and possibly Wisdom as well. Which, again, leaves us a little light and offers these players a better opportunity of playing week in and week out.

Having said that; Do you think we are still after a LF/LW? Which I think we have been looking for, now, for a while. As well as a back up DM but I honestly think that should wait.

I don't expect any more incoming players, possibly Given, but I would be pleasantly surprised if we did. Do you expect any more incoming players E.D?

Thanks for the great work, I'm sure you'll be swamped with similar messages like this. So I'll leave this message and then leave you guys alone because I know you will be very busy. Deadline day must suck for you guys :P

Believable0 Unbelievable0

ed would we not need another striker if borini goes on loan to sunderland as we will need cover for suspensions and injurys up front.lol {Ed002's Note - Clubs do not buy players to replace those on loan. They loan players to get experience and if they are surplus after buying players.}

Agree0 Disagree0

I disagree Ed, it has been known for a while we were looking for a defender and a forward.

Yes, Moses has arrived but after loosing Borini surely we are no stronger in numbers than before in this position?

{Ed002's Note - So you expect another defender to arrive and another forward without anyone leaving. It makes zero sense financially to me.}

I don't for see any deals now, it doesn't look like Borini is as nailed on as people thought & the later the day goes on the harder it will be, I think if we haven't heard anything on the likes of Turan or anyone else in Europe in the next 2-3 hours I doubt we will, maybe somebody from the Premier League, would be nice to get one last "Big " on deadline day, come on Jim White give us that "We have massive coming from Liverpool that will make Liverpool fans happy. I say we sell Suarez! IMO he's gunna do more harm than good, were playing as a family right now, sticking together, closing down, battling hard! If u put someone in the team who doesn't want to be here its gunna affect the team, he's always complaining if someone does a bad pass, always throwing his hands around in the air if he's offside or doesn't agree with something! It's negative and we don't need it. We've won more without him. Look at the players yesterday after we won hugging eachother, they were delighted! Look at the reaction when mignolet saved that penalty! Suarez is going to bring us down IMO rather than take us foward! Suarez out!

I think BR is quiet happy with the summer signings so are most of Liverpool fans, he cleared many players that won't adding to his team and added new faces that will help, I'm glad deals gone through today without any problems.
I think team looks much stronger than last season and I hope we can keep up the momentum if we need to strengthen in some areas around January time will do so, I think the business is done for the summer there might be other players leaving on loan apart from borini I hope all our players on loan come back to us experience and stronger next season, I do think there one defender will be sold.

Skrtel is very weak despite his hard man look. He lacks strength in the tackle with his left foot, as he is extremely one footed. He struggles against powerful forwards, but unlike Agger, doesn't have the ability going forward to justify his inclusion in the team. Skrtel is a good defender, but he's not suited to the premier league. He has no pace, which forces us to sit deeper. He belongs in a slower paced league, like Italy. He could shine there. Only thing I'll miss is those bullet headers that became almost trademark. He is being sold not because he is a bad player, but because he doesn't fit the system and can be improved on.

YNWAdam

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Skrtel is considered to be limited both technically and Athletically .

I have to say I love Brendan's remodeling of the squad and I think it was long over due . He has signed 4 new defenders and a new 1st choice goalkeeper with attacking players a plenty .

A rough total of a dozen players signed and around 4 young players promoted from the academy to replace the dozen players that have left for one reason or another .

The squad looks brand new and I have to say I am backing BR with all of these decisions . Only time will tell .

One of our ex lads who scored a magnificent chip over the keeper in that famous 1-4 win at Old Trafford. Dossena is Sunderland's target, although he failed a medical at Torino after a muscular problem was found.

Players In -------- Players Out

Simon Mignolet -- Pepe Reina
Kolo Toure ------- Jamie Carragher
Mamadou Sakho - Martin Skrtel
Tiago Ilori -------- Sebastian Coates
Aly Cissokho ----- Jack Robinson
Luis Alberto ------ Jonjo Shelvey
Victor Moses ----- Stewart Downing
Iago Aspas ------- Fabio Borini

Arda Turan? ------ Oussama Assaidi

Believable0 Unbelievable0

No chance unless Suarez goes and then I would be looking for an out and out forward.

Just thought it was so crazy it was worth reading.

Lets just hope they do exactly that. Hulk isn't really good. From the bits of him I have seen.

is all this talk of a big bids have been made for yarmolenko and juan mata is this anything to do with us surely we should have some money left over to sign 1 of these players we could probably win the title with 1 of em both very very good players I no you must get annoyed with the same question over and over just wish I was in the no like you. thoughts plz

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Would love either of these to happen but my optimism is waining especially as it appears that Zenit are in Kiev for talks over signing Yarmolenko, who I don't think we could compete on price with.

Mata is a dream but it just doesn't seem likely, however if Suarez was sold I would strongly hope we would make a move for Mata as he would be a perfect replacement in terms of creativity. Let's hope.

About the start to our season.

We have had three 1-0's, supposedly the sign of Champions, winning when not being at your best. We only had three 1-0's all last season, and those against Reading Southampton and QPR.

Last year in the league we conceded against the top 6, 4 goals against both Manchester sides, 4 against Spurs and Arsenal, 3 to Chelsea and 2 to Everton.

This is already a lot better than that, and we have strengthened our defence considerably today.

The signs are good

Guillem Balague on radio re suarez to madrid :"The last contact between the two clubs was two weeks ago and as I understand it, Liverpool told Real we’re not selling him, do not ring back!",
Be interested to hear your thoughts ed002 {Ed002's Note - I explained that RM made an approach then. You can look through the archives if you want.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I wasn't talking about the approach ed002, it was more to do with the fact that Liverpool told them not to ring back. I am aware of your views of on the subject up to now as a regular everyday reader. I was really just wondering if maybe when the owners said he wasn't for sale that just maybe they meant it, esp given the proximity to the window closing. There has been so much speculation regarding another year, new contract etc. My own personal view which is on record is that even though they may want to sell him that as a matter of principle that they wouldn't. John Henry just doesn't seem the type of guy who will rollover if you know what I mean. It's not like Suarez' s value will significantly decrease between now and nxt summer esp if this supposed new release clause is inserted in the "new" contract. I guess I wasn't specific enough, my bad sorry

{Ed002's Note - I would not read anything in to the words spouted by Balague who is almost certainly paraphrasing what he was told by a third party. There is no question that there are two clubs interested in making a bid and that Suarez wants to leave. He is contracted to the club and they have plans to hold on to him a while longer.

Whilst Henry will not roll over he will have no qualms about moving a troublesome player on - and a great example exists in Manny Ramirez.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Cheers Ed002,
thanks for the reply, enjoy the rest of the window.I'm well chuffed so far and if we do manage to bring anyone else in it would certainly be a bonus.

{Ed002's Note - You have a great day as well Simon.}

Agree0 Disagree0

He moved Ramirez on just in time too. {Ed002's Note - He did.}

Agree0 Disagree0

As I posted earlier. Henry`s in charge now in terms of suarez. The conditions are there and if not met. He stays. CASE CLOSED! {Ed002's Note - What conditions would these be? All they have done is confirmed that they will hang on to Suarez regardless - and that is regardless of what is best for the club. Ergo - Suarez is bigger than the club. This is a potentially huge mistake.}

The Gunners look like they could be bringing in Oezil, Viviano, Di Maria and Demba Ba? That looks like good buisness to me.
Have a feeling Chelsea could be interested in Suarez?
Juve bought forwards, the German window closes earlier I believe? so PSG, RM, City and Chesea? I would think the only realistic clubs. Could be BA and Torres out Suarez and Eto in for them?

Sakho is a vry good defender with all the atributes of a modern day centre back. It is extremely rare for a player his size to hae genuine pace, power, skill on the ball anddetermination. I am quite pleased with the signing of Sakho. He does seem to be the 'beast' I was hoping for.

A word of caution, he is not in the present French squad, which includes Koscielny (Arsenal), Debuchy (Newcastle), Clichy (Man City), Sagna (Arsenal). If we had bought any of these 4 I would not have been so excited. Does anyone know why he has not played more for his country?).

However, BR has placed his trust in him, and reports from PSG fans suggest we will like his robust style, pace and aggression.

Welcome to Merseyside Mamadou.

Hopefully your song doesn't become Agadoo. I am sure we can come up with something better than that.

{Ed002's Note - He was initially out of the squad due to a disciplinary issue and some issues he had with Didier as manager (surrounding playing time). He was given another chance but lost it when he was not playing at PSG for a prolonged period. He will be looking to win his place back under the guidance of his new room mate.}

I can't remember a time in the last few years when we had a squad that didn't have at least one player we needed to get rid of. Koncheski, Poulson, Cole, etc. The only player left in the squad that i'm not Totally convinced by is Coates, but I think he would have gone if he hadn't been injured, at least on loan. And he is young and could still come good. One more quality attacker (and keeping Suarez) and the squad would be perfect.

3-If and it's a big IF Real do come in with a late bid for Suarez surely we would have another striker lined up if that happened so that would mean maybe 2 new strikers.

Liverpool are weighing up a €29M offer for Alexis Sanchez. I think that is @£25M, he has 3 years left on his contract & I think Barcelona will want closer to £35M. Sanchez may be interested in LFC because he would be guarenteed first team football, which he isn't getting currently at Barcelona.
Cheers :)

{Ed002's Note - I am sorry but you must be thinking of another player as Alexis Sanchez has started four of the last five matches and was rested yesterday.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Barcelona are planning to play Messi, Neymar and Pedro the most. So your point is invalid. Only 3 La Liga games have been played, so yes he has played 4, but Pedro is definitely above him in the pecking order. Thus my point about more guarenteed first team football at Liverpool is correct.
P.S. Ed002, you are overly sarcastic at times "must be thinking of another player." {Ed002's Note - You said Alexis Sanchez is not currently getting football at Barcelona. It was clear you were confusing him with someone else as he has played in four of the five competitive games this season - and was rested for the other - as explained in the Press Conference. So you have a choice - you confused him with someone else or your post is bollocks. You decide.}

eds, if/when suarez leaves will we only replace him with one player? I feel if we replace him with a winger we are a bit short centrally, and studge is prone to a few niggles throughout the season. is there any chance if we sell him we would bring in 2 attackers?
thanks in advance {Ed002's Note - I would think little or no chance of 2 attackers arriving today.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Ed what are the chances of suarez staying and another attacker coming in?

would I be too greedy if I said one more attacking player (and keeping Suarez) would really make my day?

I think that would honestly put is in a great position for top 4!

Don't be surprised if Torres goes to United or Arsenal by the end of today.
I'm no ITK or anything but a pl/ex involving Rooney for Torres plus Chelsea paying about £10m wouldn't shock me.

Or Arsenal to buy Torres straight out last minute.
Just can't see Jose keeping him.
Both players want a move judging by their demeanours so might be best and would possibly appease each set of fans.

So long as we avoid I'll be happy.
But still feel we need more goals in our attack.
Only Sturridge and Suarez are proven, Aspas will clearly need time.
Come on Brendan, give us one more goalscoring attacker.
If we must wait till January, so be it.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I'd take Torres back but only if it was for no more than £10-15million, he still scored over 20 goals last season. I would find it hard to be chanting his name on the Kop though but if by some reason he comes back, and for some reason I've got a weird feeling it could be the shock of the day, then I would just hope he just keeps his head down & try his best for the team, we don't have to like him but if he does come back & once he's on the pitch then he will have my support

I think we are amassing a very talented young squad at LFC credit where it's due I think this is a big turnaround in one window the right ins and outs so far in my opinion. One more for the left I say. I hope you all realise though we are buying young as there will be a few lean years in the market once the stadium work begins. Don't whinge about it when it happens just remember in 4 years or so we could have a redeveloped anfield and all these young lads in their footballing prime

Eds, Great job and good luck today - Get the Red Bull and Berroca out on the desk!

Just an observation really - Today is the day when we see what FSG are made of. They have stated that Suarez is not for sale so near the end of the window. Like many others, I want him to stay so now the last hours to remain resolute and stand firm are in front of us. Eds, do you think a hefty offer would change FSG's minds?

Looks like Borini off on loan to sunderland. a bit surprised at that actually. Be good to see him play regularly to judge if he will cut it in premier league, but that will leave only DS and Ls as our striking options. C'mon let's have a surprise striker arrive, but who would want to come knowing that they will only be back up?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think there is someone by the name of aspas who wears the no 9 shirt and he was a striker at his previous club btw he needs to work on his first touch

i can't help but feel that torres can be moving to anfield, with suarez moving to chelsea.
chelsea want a striker, well not chelsea, mourinho does! its pretty apparent, suarez is the only chelsea level striker available. it doesn't seem like eto'o will be first team.

lfc and chelsea have a history of buisness.
it is ridiculously quiet at chelsea . they will come in the last minute that is a sure.
i am not sure for realmadrid are in for suarez, real would have obviously made there move. they are not the ones to wait for the last second and miss out on a target.
madrid want something they get it. just like bale for 85million! they won't shed blood tears for 8-10 million behind suarez.
i believe if they wanted suarez they would have done that as Liverpool quoted 50 million back in early august.
i think torres and moses and cash will be offered to lfc to tempt selling suarez at the last moment.
and for me it will depend on the cash being offered. as Liverpool don't neccessarily need moses and definitely not torres

however I don't see FSG doing such a suicide trade. but in the last moments it just gets panicky.

however mata +moses +torres + cash that be a deal :P.

Hi Guys,

With the 3 expected signings now being wrapped up, are we finished now or do you expect a move for perhaps a 'marquee' signing?

Thanks {Ed030's Note - I hope for one more left sided player but I think that's us done now. }

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Surely were stil looking as Borini has gone to Sunderland and that leaves us with Sturridge, Aspas & Suarez if he stays as Strikers. Moses in my view has been brought to add depth as Downing left and we didn't replace him. Either way i'm over the moon with the signing of Sakho real quality signing.

Hi Ed's long time reader but first time poster, thanks in advance. I tried the search function but last thing I could find was mid-august. You were pretty adamant back then but things may have changed. Any chance that Ozil would be open to joining us as part of a deal (if there is one) for Suarez?
There was talk that Madrid would be open to offer Benzema if he was willing but I was struggling to see where he'd fit in with Sturridge playing so well.
Cheers {Ed013's Note - Honest answer, I can't see it, but stranger things have happened}

We are the only team in the league who have not conceded a goal, and we've just spent another £25m on centre backs. I can see a very good season for us. Every single great team in history has been built on a solid defence. Hence why Arsenal haven't been serious competitors for trophies for years. Moses will be a great signing. If anybody wants to know a little bit more on our 3 signings so far today, I did a review on them in the LFC blogs and voting polls section. This season is looking very good now. Worth also pointing out to the people in love with Levy, that for all Tottenhams spending, they are one of only 2 teams in the league yet to score in open play! One thing Ed002, do you know if the Moses deal includes any future buying clause?

Strikers and Goals wins you the Match. Defenders wins you the Title.

Agree0 Disagree0

Have meant to respond before, nice one for the articles, thanks for putting in the time, really interesting reads. Haven't really seen much of any of them so good to have some insight. Agree about the defence, still think we're missing something in the last third though, (even with the Moses addition and Suarez out atm), would really like Yarmolenko, or him and Damiao if Suarez goes, that would finish off a pretty perfect transfer window for me. Was also wondering the same thing about Moses.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Sep 2013 11:31:48
I have slight reservations about the Sakho signing, why are PSG are not looking to keep him when one of there regular centre backs is Alex, and Sakho is touted as a world class player who is a home grown international and only 23? If somebody could enlighten me on the reasoning I will be grateful. Ilori I have never seen and had never heard of up until a couple of months ago so can't comment on him, but I am really pleased with the Moses deal, I think this kid with regular games could chip in with a double figure goals return and create a lot as well, hope there is a set fee for a permanent transfer although I wouldn't have thought Chelsea would be that stupid. Keeping Suarez for one more season is the key though, if we can manage top 4 then I couldn't care less where he goes after that!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Tbh I think it wasnt a case of Alex being ahead in the pecking order, more of the arrival of the marquinhos on big money from Roma. That and I have heard that he has had attitude issues in the past which I think didn't help his selection. hopefully a fresh start is what he needs {Ed002's Note - Under the guidance and care of #WonderDogSparky who he has moved in with.}

Agree0 Disagree0

PSG wanted to keep him, but he wanted to leave for a better chance of getting playing time so he can get into the France national team for the world cup.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hello Waro Mate

Laurent Blanc has pubically come out and said Sakho was not for sale, but sakho stated that he wished to talk to Liverpool about the project and felt neglected by paris st germain last year. Paris let him go for talks and sakho then asked for a transfer due to the impressiveness of the project.

Brendan Rodgers has pulled off a womderful deal because sakho for his age is a great organizer and communicater. We were quite a quiet back four when agger and skrtl were together hence carras re introduction last year. I fully expect sktrl to still leave with sakho and toure the two to interchange with agger.

Agree0 Disagree0

Seemingly he wanted to leave, they wanted him to stay but his desire to leave and not sign a new contract made things easy to work on.
He will need a bit of time but could be great.
Only a kid at 23 but has lots of experience for his age.
We need to have patience with him and leave him settle in.
Might take a year but then I expect us to see the real Sakho.
Ilori needs to be loaned out in my opinion for game time or might be another Coates.
For me, we need one more attacker who has goals and then I'd be delighted.
Only on Friday I was freaking out that we had done nothing, but got to hand it to Brendan and Ian, they did a good job in the end.
Come on, one more attacker and we'll do alright this season.

At centre back we now have Agger, Sakho, Kelly, Toure, Skrtel, Ilori, Coates and Wisdom. Dagger will almost definitely start if he's fit so effectively that's six competing for one spot. Surely Skrtel will leave, we'd get a decent fee too so it seems common sense. I'd have said Coates too but obviously he's out for ages.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Wisdom going on loan, so really Kelly to cover right back. Cissokho out injured for a bit so Sakho will provide left back cover too. Coates is injured. Toure is injured and possibly won't be first choice on return.

I guess we will start the season with four centre backs then. Agger, Sakho, Ilori, Skrtel. Could be reasonable to hold onto Skrtel until January, unless a good offer comes in.

Agree0 Disagree0

Skrtel I think will leave.
Coates will leave next season.
Wisdom will join Wigan on loan.
Kelly will cover RB as well as CB.
Ilori will cover RB as well as LB.
Sakho will start with Agger and can play LB.
Toure will be back up and may cover Lucas as CDM.
Agger will start as 1st choice.

Got to say really happy with this window now. Think the scouts and LFC in general done some great work.
Was worried a bit towards the last week but thanks to FSG stumping up the cash to bring in quality players where we needed it most.
As far as Suarez goes I'm a bit disappointed he still here, he is an amazing talent on the field but I've always thought he takes a lot away from the team when he plays, we seem to become one dimensional in the final third. But being this late in the window is it not better the devil you know than the devil you don't? If he goes its obvious he will need to be replaced, but this late in the day are we guaranteed to get a better option?
Any way really pleased with the direction LFC are being taken by FSG and Rodgers.

Cheers for all the updates eds not long to go

I am not worried about the cost at all and feel Sakho will be tremendous for us if we can keep him hungry and playing. He is excellent IMO. Illori I can't say I have seen much but from what I hear seems a very good signing.

Moses while I was initially not that excited by could surprise a large group of us and deliver in areas we feel he cant, IE crosses, goals and other things other than speed. I now actually think Moses wil have a very good season although don't know why the change in heart

All in all a very good window. Arda Turan would have made it the best since I was a young man but can't have the cake, with cherry and eat it too

Hi Eds, first off I would like to thank you all on the hard work that you all put in, been reading the site for years now and this is my first time posting of what I hope to be many in the future. not particularly LFC related but will Southampton get any figure from the Bale to Real Madrid deal? if so, how much would you reckon. Could be a potential reason why they have been able to spend so big this summer {Ed002's Note - No, Southampton did have such a clause but it was traded for a player called Tommy Forecast and some cash in July 2008. They are spending money as they are a reasonably wealthy club.}

Ed002, a question on the financial side of things and not really Liverpool related but since you are the only one I know who has such in-depth knowledge of how finance works in football, here it is.

Does a typical Galactico signing for Real Madrid (Beckham, Zidane, Ronaldo, Bale etc) involve them buying part of player rights as well? And does it mean that a certain part of the income that the player receives from personal endorsement deals, goes to Madrid? If that's the case, it does help in understanding how Madrid earn back some of the massive amounts they spend on players. Any information on the topic is welcome and I understand if you prefer not discussing it right now.

Thanks anyhow and once again, a big kudos to you guys for keeping this site going. Much appreciated.

Cheers! :) {Ed002's Note - The image rights work very specifically at Real Madrid. You sign and you give up 50% of your image rights to the club. There might be a little negotiation, but that is effectively it. Additionally, Real Madrid are one of a few clubs that have negotiated different deals with their kit manufacturer (Adidas in their case) that sees a share of sales proceeds rather than a lump some payment. It is also worth noting that there are significant sales contributing to the costs of players, they are the club with the largest world-wide income and there are some slightly messy "politics" associated with the Spanish game still.}

Just wanted to welcome Sakho & Ilori to Anfield and wish them the best of luck.
Sakho is an amazing signing, and Ilori is a good young prospect who is Coates replacement when he is back.

Kolo Toure
Daniel Agger
Mamadou Sakho
Martin Kelly
Tiago Ilori

So my question to you dear Ed002, are those the 5 CB's you see us having through the season?

Interesting comments from Ian Ayre reported on the BBC website, where he refers to Sakho as a 'marquee signing'.

Wondering if that is covering for BR's comments a few weeks ago and suggesting that we are not expecting any other 'big name' signings today.

Or I could just be reading too much into it!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Anyway, I hate the term 'marquee' as it's a bit cheesy.

In your opinion, what are our chances of getting him? {Ed002's Note - Well if Liverpool make an acceptable bid for the player then there is a chance.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Are we interested do you think ED? {Ed002's Note - Maybe FSG will give the fans the player they all crave.}

Ok, in your opinion, can you see us signing an attacker today, regardless of the Suarez situation (lets assume he is staying)

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed002, I think the majority of the fans would not like to see him back unless he came in for free and paid us to play him (which wouldn't surprise me really). No Torres please. Period!

Agree0 Disagree0

It would appear Suarez is on his way to Lima for Urguays' WC qualifier. Maybe this involves a stop in Madrid but I think they would have had to put those wheels in motion by now.

Let us be prepared for a bid by Madrid for our little pain in the a**e striker.

Let us be prepared for a pathetic offer from a brash and arrogant club.

Let us prepare to give them a good kick in the p***s if they think they can get him on the cheap.

Anyone think Benteke (regardless of new contract) would still be available?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Why would we need benteke when we have sturridge? we need somebody who can create, score, drag defenders towards him and harry the opposition defence non-stop the way that suarez does. to be honest there probably is no other player in the world like him, and as brilliant as sturridge is all the intangibles that suarez brings with him would be almost impossible to replace, especially given the time that we have left.
the question, however, is always the same- does all of this warrant the perpetual headache of having suarez on your team?

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Sep 2013 09:47:51
benteke is an superb player, But he is what sturridge is with us already, we need players on the flanks.

Agree0 Disagree0

I still expect Suarez to get his Dream move to Real Madrid. weather it be a straight cash offer of above £50M or player plush cash. My only worry is we would need to replace him as Borini is set for Sunderland on loan and if Sturridge gets injured were stuck with only Aspas, with Borini going i'm expecting another Attacker weather that be a ST/CF/LW/RW i'm not too sure and if Suarez goes as well then we would need 2/3 attackers which seems unlikely, but Liverpool have already confirmed 2 of the 3 signings we expected early on so I wonder will they be busy for the rest of the day.

Agree0 Disagree0

We need another player who can score goals as Suarez will go.

Agree0 Disagree0

. and Borini.

Agree0 Disagree0

Not sure we would be mad enough to sell him when we do not have a replacement at this very late stage. Aspas is not good enough to play each game and we need Suarez to play as the right attacker with Aspas as a back up. We would not be arranging behind closed door matches (Port Vale) for Suarez if we were planning to sell him

Good Morning All - still happy after yesterdays terrific result and our performance - Sturridge nicked the all important goal (again) but Skrtel, Johnson, Enrique and Henderson were all fantastic for me with Skrtel immense given the pressure of the match - having to come in on the back of two previous wins and two clean sheets and the fact he had not played this season so far! Hope he gets the opportunity to fight for his place still and if not I for one would wish him all the best if he gets moved on!
Again the performances yesterday of some of the LFC players shows what happens when there is extra competition generated in the squad for starting places and they were probably aware of the other three potentially key signings in the wings watching on.

(Eds) With Luis Suarez not available until September 25th and many concerning reports this morning that he will be off to Madrid tonight and we may lose Borini to Sunderland on loan - Will we not be short again up front? Particularly if no sensible replacement is found!
Before getting carried away if Sturridge gets injured - what do we have left? Iago Aspas is a worker that's clear but not a prolific goal scorer yet and looking at our bench yesterday there were very few game changing options!

Personally Eds I hope we stick today with what we have (keep Suarez) for one more year rather than destroy our chances this season in letting him leave particularly at the touted prices being thrown out this morning of around 45m Euros (£39m) quid - seems ridiculously cheap for me and gives us nothing to purchase anyone decent in return! Finally (Eds) do you know if we have any interest in a back -up plan if Luis goes? I am very nervous now and getting the feeling our season could still be tipped on its head in the next few hours! Emirates attendance yesterday was over 60,000 we had just under 45,000. They get over 30% more than us in attendance income. Now the team is looking good (well done BR and all involved including JH and FSG) the ground development is truly urgent.

So its deadline day and all the madness will reach its climax.

Here's hoping that our 3 potential signings that were in attendance at Anfield yesterday are completed and they become LFC players by the end of the day.

I think Suarez will go to Madrid today aswell.

If by the end of today we have brought in
Aspas
Mignolet
Toure
Alberto
Cissohko
Sahko
Moses
Llori

Ill be happy with how the window has gone

A big thank you to the Eds for all your hard work as always

Hi Eds & fellow Reds

Eds you have my deepest sympathy today, I can only imagine how hectic today will be for you guys so good luck.
Just a few things really, I heard we made a bid yesterday for Iker Munian, this boy can play LW, RW, ST & is a fantastic player, but I also heard he went off injured against Real Madrid yesterday so if a bid is true I hope his injury isn't a bad one.
Also we've been linked with Damiao but surely that would be a very difficult deal to do on deadline day.
Heard this morning that Moses might not be a loan after all it may be permanent, again just a rumour.
Do you think if Suarez goes today, I know quite a few of the Eds think he will, do you think we have a replacement lined up, especially as Borini is being linked with Sunderland & do you think in your opinion we should do what Spurs done so well I think, in that we buy our replacement first then sell Suarez so we don't pay over the odds for his replacement?
Ideally today I'd love to see this happen but I know most would be unlikely.

Sakho
Ilori
Moses
Barry (loan cover for Lucas)
Munian
Turan or maybe somebody like Di Maria or Benzama as part of Suarez deal

Anyway cheers Eds as much as I know a lot of this is unlikely we all have our perfect transfer deadline day outcomes, mine would be our deals for the 3 lads at the game yesterday to be complete, hijack Evertons hope of getting Barry, get rid of Suarez & all his attitude & baggage & bring in a quality striker as replacement & a quality winger/wide player for the left.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Why would gareth barry (whom I don't rate in the first place) want to come to us to sit on the bench, when he wants to be in contention for a place in the england squad?

I Expect to se Skertl going to a new club, Wisdom out on a loan.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

There is an article on the BBC website about transfers etc, and one bit refers to a transfer of a top striker between 2 clubs where the striker fell asleep waiting for the plane and missed it, making everything more rushed. Wondered if it was Torres? Anyone know? {Ed002's Note - Benjani to Portsmouth.}

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Sep 2013 08:37:52
Eds and reds,
It was said that if Real Madrid did bid for Luis Suarez then Alvaro Morata would be apart of the deal.
I imagine Alvaro Morata's arrival could be the reason for Fabio Borini's departure on loan.
Which means we would still be looking for a striker to replace Luis Suarez.
Having a quick look; Andriy Yarmolenko, Fernando Torres and Leandro Damiao are the most linked.
Am I close to what could happen or am I just over thinking all of this? {Ed002's Note - Well Torres is certainly available.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

02 Sep 2013 08:59:30
Ed. How can you make people ujnderstand the fact that we don't need an out and out striker, because we have Sturridge and it would be crime to play him out wide.
and common. suarez is much more than just an outn an dout striker.
If you wanna replace suaerz, then bring someone whose similar to suarez on the pitch.
fernando torres and dimaio would be just a back up.
luis suarez is something more than that for sure.
we need 20+ goals and 15 assists. name a player who gets that.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed002, are Yarmolenko and Damiao not available? {Ed002's Note - RTP.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Torres? Really? I mean really? Are we still doing this? Let it go, man. Embrace the future.

Agree0 Disagree0

Gareth Bale - Sorry Harry couldn't resist that one.
Unfortunately I do not think there is such a beast available that will provide what you think we need.

Agree0 Disagree0

I actually do hope Torres goes somewhere where he is first choice and can find some semblance of him former self again. Even if I wanted him back, Liverpool would not be the right place for him. We have the PFA player of the year (Danny the worm) that he will be sitting behind again. He is not at his best coming off the bench and we already know they don't really work well together.

Good luck to Borini if he goes out on loan.

This lad will come good and will come back to our club a better more confident player.

Personally, I have seen so many positives when he plays and can't remember ever wanting a player to score as much as I do him. His runs and positional play are excellent at times.

Good luck lad.

Swansea would be ideal.

How on earth is this loan a good idea beyond me. we are all out to get the CL in 12 months. If we are short of money, then sell him and get the money and fund a move for a Winger.
there are 100s of borini out there and some in our academy, we could easily get 2 strikers next seaosn if we are in CL.

AC Milan signs kaka for 0 mill (Loan)
Milan bought Kaka for 8.50 mill and sold him at 56 mill and then resigned him at 0 mill.
Now the question is, Do Madrid actually care?
Soccer has become a joke for clubs like Madrid. {Ed002's Note - The game is certainly not a joke for Madrid. There is little point in my explaining the finances to you but they want him and several others off the books today.}

What a lovely post. Thank you from all of us LFC fans. It might not last forever but it's a pleasant reminder of what we used to take for granted. You take me back to a time when all fans were rather more pleasant with one another. of course I exclude the crazy ones who were rather more concerned with thuggery outside and around grounds than any actual football. Believable0 Unbelievable0

02 Sep 2013 08:19:22
Ok, my opinion is that Suarez will leave today. I really have no issue with that. He has to go I think to settle this once and for all. That said, we really will need at least another forward. A player at the pinnacle of our attack. We need someone or 2 to compensate for the 30 goals Suarez scored last year. Not someone who plays on the left or right but at the very top of the attack. We have started well but we can't rely on Sturridge or Borini (if he is still here) to spearhead our attack. It will be an interesting day no doubt. Exciting in a way. Good luck to Ed002! A big drink awaits you at the end of the day! Or maybe during the day for medicinal purposes only, just to take the edge of! Cheers.

Walters shot and penalty save against Stoke

2 of Benteke's shot against Villa

and yesterday save from Nani.

what a difference a goalkeeper could make.

Now Bale has left spuds any they only have a net sped of about 8M does that mean levey is cheap and they need more signings like we do. Surely they can't finsh with a pitiful 8m spend. They must be set for religation with figures like that lol

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It's not 8 mil is it because there are agent fees, wages and whatever other bonuses you can think of. I bet the wages alone are close to 300k a week

Agree0 Disagree0

Morning Eric, sorry mate this was just a dig at some of the plonkas out there who only care about how much you spend not how much you improve the squad, I couldn't care if we only spent £1 to get the current squad we have, money is of no interest to me I just want to see an improvment to the squad which I can.

Agree0 Disagree0

Often thought the same myself mate! Hypothetically if we where to sell someone like Coates for 100mil and bring in Messi for 90mil, some people on here would still moan that the owners havnt put any of their own money in and its not a good window!

Looking back on yesterday, I can't help but wonder as to what BR said to Sturridge . As soon as he scored he ran down towards his manager only for an over joyed Skrtel to grab him, even after that . He went straight to BR and hugged him.
That was priceless, he's been to city and to chelsea but quite didn't seem to cut the grade for lord knows what cause he sure did stick it in the net.
A little faith in someone goes a long way, remember lucas when he first arrived? Oh sorry I meant henderson, its pretty much the same case ain't it? He was just beast yesterday . i'm very happy for him, for the entire team. And big ups to the crowd, they toke me back to istanbul, the way they sang in the last minutes.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Serioulsy think we should go and sign Christian Poulsen.

he has played every minute for us.(120 min against notts county)
will he play for england in the international break?
what sort of injury is he carrying?
he is our biggest player as of now, we should not probably over do him.
is it a long term injury or he picked up a knock against manchester united? {Ed008's Note - He picked up a thigh injury against Nott's County, Rodgers confirmed it in his post match comments, he played against Utd with the injury I would expect him to pull out for the England matches not to risk further damage.

To sum off Last Weekend of Transfer Window

In
Sakho
Illori
Moses (loan)
Given (maybe)
1 more winger.

Out
Skretel
Wisdom (Loan)
Borini (Loan)
Suarez.
{Ed008's Note - So sell Borini & Suarez and bring no replacements in? Leaving Sturridge as the only striker who is injured?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I meant
1 Winger / Striker for Suarez.

Agree0 Disagree0

We should not let Suarez go coze it will be difficult to replace him. If so we should forget top four finish. You imagine what will happen if Aspas and Sturridge are not available/injured at the same time with Borini out on loan.

Agree0 Disagree0

Does it depend on what we get back for Suarez? If it was say 60m pounds, would you take it if we could get quality replacements in time?

Cant say anything. If they loose, Di maria and Ozil today, A bid would suerly comes in. Gareth bale won't score 40+ goals in this seaosn. They need cover, With Kaka departure Imminent and benzema still in the shadow, a bid for suarez would come late evg.
Ed, what you think of this, Sign Bale for 100 mil and let Ozil for 50 mill. Mezut Ozil is twice the player what bale is. {Ed013's Note - I can see Ozil leaving today}

What a result today. Skertalator was immense, absolutely immense. I know he's sometimes accident prone, but I have to ask, why are we trying to offload him? Having more competition for places will improve his concentration, motivation and desire. I Know we are in the middle of more defensive signings, but he has been a warrior for us and I for one, will be sorry to see him go. So I have to ask, have we received offers for him?
Secondly, I heard from a contact within FSG that there IS a possibility that the right offer for Suarez is coming from RM (46-48m). While I appreciate we have done well without Suarez, we have relied on DS for goals and our coverage is pretty light. Aspas looked little lost today, but would he move into the strikers role if DS is injured? Just wondering what the game plan might be.
Thirdly - hendo looks like a totally different player this season - long may it continue.
Finally, thanks for all your hard work Eds. We'd be lost without you. At least you will get a break after tomorrow!
Best start since 1994! YNWA!,!!

Daniel Sturridge, 20 games, 16 goals. What a start to this lads LFC career. If this is him half fit can you imagine what he's going to be like fully fit! Top, humble bloke too.

Absolutely loved it when he scored today and ran over to Bredan Rodgers and they hugged it was a nice moment. Rodgers, the club, the fans and his team mates believe in him and he's showing why that belief is well placed.

It feels great to have this much positivity around the place again. Belief, hunger, desire, a winning mentality.

Well done Bredan and the back room
Staff and all the lads. Keep up the good work ;)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I do think another striker is needed, because if Sturridge gets injured before Suarez returns we could potentially lose 6 vital points.

If Suarez goes tomorrow Benteke would do for me.

Red Rum

Agree0 Disagree0

Why would we want Benteke when we have Sturridge? I can't see Benteke being able to play anything other than centrally and at this point it would be madness to do anything to Sturridge other than let him keep doing what he is doing.

Agree0 Disagree0

Red Rum, are you in essence saying that we need to sign a 'quality striker' so that he can potentially play 2 games JUST IN CASE something happened to DS over the next couple of weeks?

Not my idea of a very well thought out investment, that.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sturridge also has got 5 assists.

Agree0 Disagree0

My point applies all the way through the season. If one of Suarez or Sturridge picks up an injury it would be good to have one more striker on board just to strengthen our attacking options.

Regardless of if Suarez goes I do think another striker is needed. We need a strong bench as well as a strong starting 11.

If Suarez does go then we definitely need to bring in another striker.

Red Rum

Agree0 Disagree0

Borini is off on loan to Sunderland today so I would expect another striker/wide option to come in. Let's hope it's Yarmelenko or someone of that ilk. But who ever it is i'm sure they will be a good choice. They way we are doing our business is just fantastic right now.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Sep 2013 01:15:30
Dude have to pull you up on something. Suarez is not injury prone in any way! He plays almost every minute that's he is available for. The only time he misses matches is when he gets suspended.

Although personally I do agree that we could use another striker. I would love Sinclair to be the next Owen and break into the side at a young age but he probably isn't quite ready.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

02 Sep 2013 01:12:53

02 Sep 2013 01:11:49
To the people who seem to think BRs strategy is to pinch a goal then defend resolutely, you are only partially right.
The strategy is to ALWAYS defend resolutely. This team is starting to have the look of our last Champions League winning team. As long as we took the lead we were almost always good value for the win, and with the possible defensive reinforcements coming in, long may our resolute defending continue.
What I hope we can replicate from that team of Rafa's early years is that desire to get back into matches where we concede first. During that time, no matter the circumstances, you always felt we could get a result after falling behind. The past few seasons have not given me the same confidence.

With all that has been said and written about our club this summer, we should all be proud of the team and the grit and determination they have should thus far. Fair play to Skrtel who gave his all in a MOTM performance for a club that he seems to be on the verge of leaving.

Long live the Spirit of Shankly. YNWA.

So with Ilori, Moses and Sahko all set to sign today I was wondering if anybody would like to see any other areas strengthened, personally the links with Given has made me wonder, do we actually need a replacement/substitute keeper? I think it would be good plus he could pass on his wealth of knowledge and experience to the likes of Mignolet and Ward.
Other than that I think we have had a wonderful transfer window with the quality of players incoming and the prices gotten for player departures(which should include Wisdom to Wigan/Fulham on loan great experience for him, Skrtel to Napoli and hopefully Coates leaves as well).

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It will depend on Suarez staying or going, I think. If he goes then it will be a bitter pill for many to swallow but if we don't sign someone to replace him on top of that, well then I think that will just annoy people more than what happened last transfer deadline day. But that's just my thoughts about it.

Excellent atmosphere and well done to all, we are really defending better and showing less complacency than last year which is proving itself in our results.
I really want to thank BR for his signings they have been really good and for the owners in supporting him financially.

Wisdom can't go out on loan with glen johnson getting injured, ibe should go to a top championship side like wigan who also play decent football. Flanagan needs to go to somewhere like west brom to get more experience. Sterling will be to important to send out even with moses coming in. Skrtel will go napoli as sakho will be signed and llori. suarez to madrid with the money we will sign yalemenko and damiao. Good business to me!

Alot of assumptions there. Ibe can't go on loan he is too young. Can't see yarmolenko or damiao coming in personally. Hope I'm wrong thought

Eds with RM willing to let Di Maria leave, could you see any potential Suarez bid involving him?
That's the only way I can see us accepting an offer as BR will feel that he then has a replacement brought in. {Ed002's Note - Try the search function.}

Not a question on transfer but do you have any view on recent Liverpool management handling. The Munich twitter gaffe, Roy Hodgson episode, last year Clint Dempsey tapping issue and obviously the Suarez Tshirt support. Liverpool always had a good reputation, it seems we owe a lot of apologies nowadays

could be suarez out torres in on monday??

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Please hold your breadth for Torres' return.

Agree0 Disagree0

I wouldn't want him back

Agree0 Disagree0

I apologize for this. It was wrong of me to suggest that. Telling you to holding your breadth for a Torres return is akin to telling you to off yourself.

Agree0 Disagree0

He would start breathing again once he passed out so no need to apologise simply getting some shut eye. Really don't see how Torres would work if it were to happen only play with one stilet and wouldn't want to move sturridge out wide so we need that versatile attacker we all keep talking about

Hi eds

Is the speculation that we have made a bid for Florian Thauvin true? {Ed002's Note - I know nothing of it but another Ed also aked. He tells me did not get it off Twitter. So, what I know. Newcastle continue to glance in his direction. Marseille has been negotiating but he may, quite frankly, be too much of a shit for a deal to get done. Maybe if Coutinho is sold a bid might happen.}

Lets never forget Shanks, he was our Augustus; he found us made of brick, but left us made of marble.

With one day left this transfer window, I'd just like to say a big Thank You to the Ed's for all the information they provide and consequently the abuse they have to put up with. I would hate to imagine a week without this site and the witty responses from the Ed's. Keep up the good work. {Ed002's Note - Thanks man.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Not you the other eds {Ed002's Note - Well fuck you.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes eds, thank u all for taking the time. eds002 ir sarcasm knows no bounds, still tryin to figure out if u are a dude or a girl, but thank u for your time all of u. {Ed002's Note - I'll check with my wives.}

Agree0 Disagree0

No idea if that's your idea of a joke or what, Kumber, but that's entirely uncalled for and well out of order.

All of the Eds are fantastic, but clearly several of them, to include especially Ed002, are well connected in the footballing world and don't have to share anything they know with us but do so anyway. Why you would spew vitriol at someone providing incredibly exceptional value for the money spent (e.g. £0) is well beyond me.

Skrtl has to leave now two more defenders have joined. Sad to see as he always gave 100%. At least he got to play at Anfield one last time and win motm. Can see one more player arriving but has to be first team quality

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Why does he have to leave? Ilori is one for the future.

So we have Toure, Agger, Sktl and Sakho competing for 2 berths. I don't understand why exactly he has to leave.

If anything, Agger will be leaving if Barca offer the 35m euros, I wish they would.

Hi eds,

Read somewhere that Ilori used to be a forward and he's beaten Ronaldo's sprinting record at Sporting. Perhaps if we don't sell Skrtel, Ilori will play as a forward? ;) Just kidding.

On a more serious side, there's a rumours we are really pushing for Damiao, Internacional wants 25m, we offered 20m. Opinions/updates on this?

Cheers, {Ed002's Note - RTP.}

If Moses comes in, surely Yarmolenko is a no-go. Having said that Moses has interest from elsewhere still where he'll get more game time, and betting on Yarmolenko has stopped on some sites apparently, at very high odds, never know what to believe in the crazy last days of the transfer window.

Hi eds

Do you know if the Muriel rumors were true a while back? Does Hughes deal seem to be dead? And what's the latest om Zivkovic from Groningen? {Ed002's Note - Try the search engine about Muriel - I have answered it dozens of times. Zivkovic is a child.}
