Hey ed's and fellow reds I know you don't like to talk money but can I ask if there is any clause in coutinho's contract and how much you or any one think he is worth now? {Ed002's Note - I have no idea what his contract says but way too much is made of any financial clauses.}

I see BR was brought in Fowler, Mcmanaman and Rob Jones to work with the academy. Its good to see and brings back a little of the old boot room to the club.

But the real reason for my post, on another forum there is some real hatred towards Macca because of the way he left.

I have for have nothing but praise for the guy, he left when it was clear Liverpool where not going to win the league and became one of the best if not the best winger in the world and was a massive influence in Real Madrid winning the champions league. I think he was one the most medals as Englishman playing abroad.

So those old enough to remember him playing, what you thoughts on him?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Solo goal v Celtic, and cup final v Bolton. Great player

Agree0 Disagree0

He screwed us over and refused to sign a contract meaning we lost out on about 12mil which was a hell of a lot then

Agree0 Disagree0

Also cup against Bolton and his amazing run against Celtic. Plus bwing sat in the Anfield road end as a young boy and him acoring 2 against Arsenal.

Agree0 Disagree0

Should have signed a contract and guaranteed the club a transfer fee.

Agree0 Disagree0

Why should he have signed a contract. The club could have easily priced him out of a move or even refused to sell him then.

Read robbies autobiography he explains the Macca situation . the club were as much to blame . same with Owen and robbie. they dueled around left it to late . board was a shambles

hi don't know if i'm wrong here, but I was of the belief that Macca had told the club that he wanted to play abroad the year before, and that he wasn't going to sign a new contract so the club had the choice of selling him before but didn't, if this is true then he didn't treat us unfairly as gave them an opportunity to sell but the club didn't, he just wanted a crack at it abroad

There is a lot of history being re-written with regards McManaman. From what I remember, McManaman was approaching the end of his contract and the club went and accepted a bid from Barcelona for him. I think McManaman was shocked that the club was prepared to sell him and once the Barcelona deal fell through, McManaman decided to let his contract expire.

At no point did he indicate to the club or the fans that he would sign a new contract, unlike Owen who insisted for months he would re-sign and deliberately stalled negotiations.
As far as I'm concerned, Macca did nothing wrong. He represented the club superbly throughout his contract and didn't mislead anyone.

Agree0 Disagree0

Aye barca mucked him around and supposedly he was a smoke screen so they could sign rivaldo. By then shaggy decided to leave. Loved him tho

Agree0 Disagree0

Plus his song is still one of my favourites ever, the fact that John Flanagan fits into it is just brilliant

Jamie Carragher is a legend on sky

Jamie Carragher: Arsenal have got the best midfield in the league,
Liverpool have got 2 of the best strikers in the league,
Chelsea have got too many big names in der team which can be a problem at times but they are strong!
Anchor: What about United?
Jamie: Well city is above them that says it all.
Gary Neville: But city lost to villa and cardiff as well!
Jamie: I meant Hull City!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I did not know about this the other day and could not find this already posted.

LOL classic!

Agree0 Disagree0

I've printed it and posted it on my fridge door, along with, 'No kid wants to grow up to be Garry Neville'. I start everyday with Cornflakes and smiling with Jamie.

Agree0 Disagree0

Carra is definitely having some fun at the expense of Neville, though to be fair, he takes it well and is actually a decent Football 'Pundit'.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree he is a good pundit and not what I expected from his football days.

Agree0 Disagree0

Carra and Neville ARE the new Saint and Greavsie ;)

Agree0 Disagree0

^^^ with Reynard there.

Like the man or not the fact remains that Suarez is a match winner almost on his own and there simply are not many of those around. With renewed speculation surrounding his future who do people feel would be a worthy replacement?

I'm not a football fantasist and I don't expect a like for like replacement as Suarez is a one off type of player but with the team playing well I am sure we would all be keen to maintain that momentum.

Nice debate all the same.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Would he stay if we got CL next year as with him we are more likely to qualify {Ed002's Note - He is very keen to move as evidenced by everything that went on this past summer and that he is already being offered around clubs (four to my knowledge) by his representatives for a January move. A bonus is that he is available for the CL this season.}

Agree0 Disagree0

I got an idea, let's wait till the end of the season when he is top goal scorer and sell him to Real Madrid for €100+. that's what normally happens right?

Agree0 Disagree0

El shaarawy would be affordable if we did sell suarez, at this moment in time I can't see him wanting to come but if were challenging.
Eds what's his situation at milan cause I remember hearing something of him looking for a move in the Summer? {Ed002's Note - Arsenal, Real Madrid and PSG would like to strike a deal with Milan at some point but the player is happy where he is and Milan have no intention of selling - although if the right deal is offered they may listen. Interest from Monaco and Spurs remains unconfirmed and Napoli dropped out of the running when they signed Callejon, as did Manchester City when they signed Jovetic.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Who would have believed that Luis Suarez would be playing for Liverpool this season.Everything is possible and anything could happen, when I see it i'll believe it.I half expected him to be sent off, grinning, in disgrace against Sunderland, who knows with this guy?I hope he stays but won't hold my breath, its the nature of the beast!

Agree0 Disagree0

I really don't see us selling him mid season anyway especially if we are near top of the table. He will at least be with us to the end of the season.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Oct 2013 18:49:10
I hold on to him in my football manager. with real and bayern offering me tonz of money.
I ll not trade this genius with anyone.
Luis suarez will hit his first hat trick of the season against Palace.

Agree0 Disagree0

He will likely leave next summer I think.

Agree0 Disagree0

Not being funny but the ED's said that he wouldn't be playing for us this season I believe he will stay till summer Liverpool will not sell in January that is just crazy. I also think that if we make CL for next season they a strong possibility that he would stay I say 50/50 .

Liverpool started singing YNWA after Gerry etc etc
but of course the song is from Carousel which was
written I think in the mid 40s' (when ED002 was a
teenager over the pond)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Now come on, that's a little offensive, we all know ED002 was NEVER a teenager

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed002 hatched from a dinosaur egg, which had remained fossilized for years, but hatched once Global Warming began.

Agree0 Disagree0

ED002 came to planet earth from a galaxy far far away, on a spaceship that sunk off the coast of wales in 1976. At the time it was thought that a small earthquake had occurred as it measured 6.2 on the Richter scale. He later swam ashore and photosynthesised into a man, or was it a woman? He actually lived in a cave on Mount Orme reading football magazines for 24 years before getting a job on here . oh and he's got webbed feet!

Joe allen damaged his hamstring against nottd county before any abusive reds fans comment on how poor he is and how rodgers doesn't want him anymore. I personally think we need him now coutinho is injured to hold the ball better.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

02 Oct 2013 13:24:26
Eds with our squad a little bare at the moment, particularly on the flanks, could you see a move for lallana as possible? What's his contract situation and what kind of price would saints be looking for? I've always been impressed when I've seen him play {Ed002's Note - The transfer window is closed.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

But In january? {Ed002's Note - Liverpool has shown no interest in him.}

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Oct 2013 12:27:30
Does any1 kniw if allen is injured?
As I think he has a bit more about his game when playing in the advanced midfield role

Believable0 Unbelievable0

02 Oct 2013 13:32:10
I don't think so.He was used there prior and wasnt effective. Hendo above him anyday.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hendo and allen on top form. allen is a better player imo

Agree0 Disagree0

Allen should occupy Stevie G's position not at the tip of the diamond in midfield. He would press higher up the pitch and pull the midfield and, ultimately, the backline higher up the pitch.

Agree0 Disagree0

He is injured. Hamstring.

Has anyone noticed that the top 4 teams are made of the 'big 4' of the 'Division 1' days!

It would of course look prettiest with LFC on top!

Hats off to Brendan for recruiting Fowler, Mcmanaman and Rob Jones on a part-time basis working with the U18 and U21 squad.

A great move and I'm sure these lads will learn as well as have a laugh.

Personally, I'm made up.

02 Oct 2013 11:34:00
That's fantastic news! :)

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah, I think it's a good move too. I'd also love john barnes to get some sort of role maybe a spokesman for the club or something.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes simsimo
John Barnes should pass on some of his skills too. Imagine a youth team who all had his moves. frightening prospect

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm not sure Ourkid, I don't think Johnny and his rap moves are relevant anymore lad.

Just a question for all those who were last week saying sturridge is tired. got to say he really looked it on sunday out there.I mean if he does that to to a team when he is 'tired' i'd love to see him when he's not.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

02 Oct 2013 10:01:06
Sturridge looked really sharp on sunday.
But the only worry was he came too deep to collect the ball.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Oct 2013 12:24:29
That is because D. Sturridge best position as a Striker Harry is a deep lying forward. I would have thought you knew that because of your addiction to Football Manager but you probably sold most Liverpool players on your game:)

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Oct 2013 13:33:49
hhehe. I loved that. Yo. Infact recieved plenty of offers for Suarez. But kept him. and boy I believed in him. and He is delivering that.
Apart from suarez. I also have Aspas. can you believe that?

Agree0 Disagree0

I remeber after one recent game that sturridge himself said he is not match fit, but on sunday he looked like he's getting there, for me I think gerrard looks tired a rest would do him a world of good, and also suarez is looking a bit more match fit game after game, so to see them getting match fit and scoring goals should make all the other teams in the prem very warey of us, I can see us beating a team by a high score soon

im just enjoying our position and form at the moment and hopefully we will stay in the top 2 all season

I watched the Celtic v Barcelona game last night and have to say the atmosphere created by the Celtic fans was immense. Also their rendition of YNWA reminded me of how we used to sing it many moons ago.

Even after Barca scored the Celtic fans really kept up their volume, which is so unlike our fans at Anfield these days. As a season ticket holder for many years it is quite noticeable how our atmosphere has, in the main, declined.

By the way I thought the sending off was the right call.

KBL {Ed001's Note - yes but it is not like that every week, Anfield can get up for big games too, it is meaningless unless it happens against every team.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

02 Oct 2013 10:02:00
Thats why we need CL mate. Its a treasure Being at Anfield on Tuesday and wednesday nights.

Agree0 Disagree0

Is it right that they started singing YNWA, on a regular club-sanctioned basis anyway, after the '89 benefit match with us? {Ed001's Note - no, YNWA was sung there long before then.}

Agree0 Disagree0

What about "fields of Anfield road"? I know it's an old irish song but how long have they been singing their version of it? {Ed001's Note - no idea, but they have been singing it for a very long time, defo before we started with our altered version.}

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm a Dublin lad only young so as you imagine most there is a few United heads that claim they first sang you'll never walk alone ed clear this up for me please {Ed002's Note - My understanding is that Liverpool were first to sing the song at games following the recording by Gerry & The Pacemakers - which will be in 1963 or 1964.}

Agree0 Disagree0

A bit of a hornets nest this one, ynwa is not a football song nor is it a hymn, it was a popular (pop)song of the time (1940s) and was covered by many artists most notably gerry and the pacemakers, a lot of supporters sang ynwa after in the terraces after g and the p realieased it but only lfc and celtic permanently adopted it, which one of the two sang it first is debatable, but there is evidence that manutd also sang ynwa for a short period after the munich air disaster which was 4/5 years before gerry and the pacemakers released it, the story goes that a group of singers from a production of the musical carosel attended old trafford after the munich air disaster and sang ynwa, it was sang by the supporters for a short while afterwards before eventually fizzleing out {Ed002's Note - It has certainly been adopted by more clubs than LFC and CFC as it is very common to hear it being sung in Germany - I don't recall at which grounds. I was going to go to the game in Dortmund last night but did not have time, however if memory serves they sing it there.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Dezy,
October 1963 was the release date of the Gerry & The Pacemakers single, and the song was being sung by Liverpool fans by then. An older lad on RAWK got it down to April '63.
The song used to be sung by a lot of clubs supporters in the early 70's, even at England internationals believe it or not!
That Utd thing is a load of rubbish, there's no evidence at all.

Agree0 Disagree0

Even Feyenoord has the song.

The difference in all the versions is the tune to which it is sung.

Agree0 Disagree0

Well I'm only 21 one so 1963 was well before my time haha had a feeling it was all bull good man juicer
