I found an article tucked away in the Times today stating that two players had been fined £6,000 and£1,200 by the F.A. for homophobic comments on Twitter. Can anyone explain to me
1) How obnoxious remarks posted for everyone to see can receive so little publicity.
2) How the punishment can be so small in view of the recent EIGHT match ban handed out to a player whose so-called offensive remarks were heard by only one player - a player who himself was guilty of offensive behaviour.
Dutchmal

OH MY GOD! Move on, man! For the sake of your own health.

TK-Red

These be sum crazy times we live in. Nick.

Contrast this low profile reporting for an offence where both parties were found guilty with the furore over Reina's advert. How do you think this would've been reported if the 2 parties were Liverpool players?

The Robin {Ed002's Note - It would have been no different. You are just paranoid.}

Seriously ed02 (changed seriously from something else that rhymes with truck loft).

"Paranoid". You know for certain it would've been front page of every s**tty little propaganda paper in Britain and probably even the states too!

Please deny ignorance! It's the first i've even heard of this outrageous story.

OP, who were players in question?

And PS: I do realize "bigger" (Actually, more acknowledged) clubs are under more scrutiny and media publicity than "smaller" clubs, but "PARANOID" you're havin a laugh

{Ed002's Note - The story has had plenty of publicity over the past week and there is a third player involved. So perhaps you should pay more attention to what is going on rather than making a complete fool of yourself. The players are Newcastle's Nile Ranger, Walsall's Manny Smith and Manchester United's Federico Macheda. Paranoid was obviously wrong, ill informed and paranoid is better.}

Paranoid. That's what the mancs keep calling us. You don't happen to be a manc do you Ed 002? {Ed002's Note - Try not to be such a jerk.}

What did people make of the 'new' Wembley ?
Sunday was my first visit since the late 80's.
It's a fantastic stadium, very comfortable, access excellent, bars, nice bogs even.
Great views right on top of the pitch.
But...something is just nagging at me. It's all a bit too...erm, smooth, if that's the right word.
Corporate perhaps.
I don't know. It gives all the modern comforts, and is a money-making machine (a pint is about a fiver, face value of top tickets in the £100's).
But I liked the old twin towers, and the speedway track around the pitch, and especially the tunnel entrance.
The old stadium was grander somehow.
It seemed larger too. I don't know if the new Wembley has the same footprint, or more of the space is taken in the entertaining space.
Maybe it's simply progress.
And I like the shapes and nooks and crannies of Anfield, even though it's too small as is now.
If ever we do get a new stadium, I don't want a round bowl. I want something different, in keeping with the fan base, not too smooth.
Like the Milan stadium, with those big imposing turrets in the corners.
Anyway, I did enjoy the final, don't get me wrong.
But don't let's go too corporate.
The Real KB

I agree KB, whilst I never did go to the old Wembley, I just can't see Wembley being as grand. I like the outside, putting the stadium on a podium but the Arch isn't quite as grand. I hope we go for 4 stands with something grand in the corner maybe with Shankley and Paisley gates over each goal? I think the stadium is ours to sum up Liverpool FC, we have to make a grand impact on the world and not go for the generic stadium.

Although I'm not sure, I think bowl stadiums have much higher capacity but whilst I'd rather the four stands, if we do a bowl shaped stadium right it can look very nice.

Agree totally it was just another emirates or etihad but on a grander scale there was no soul.Dont get me wrong it was a stadium to behold but there was something missing.History maybe.oh well still really enjoyed the day an maybe back there in 6 weeks an then beat the toffees in the final.LONG LIVE KING KENNY. Huyton Red

Old wembley was magical so much history ,world cup win and the king chipping in the winner 78, i find the tv screens a big distraction at live games ,maybe they shouldnt show replays during the game, redello

I'm not surprised with Comolli's comments. If anything i'm glad he said, what he said. We all knew, we needed was a bit of tweaking. Another winger, a playmaker and a striker, would make us a real, real threat. I don't know if Matt Jones is the answer as a winger for us, havnt seen enough of him. But if I could chose who we could bring in at reasonable prices. I'd take Luuk De Jong, Gaston Ramirez and Marko Marin. If we did have enough funds for 'better' players, i'd take Lavezzi, Ramirez (still) and Soldado.

We don't need to spend another 60-90 mill. 2-3 players that would improve our squad, is all we need.

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

Ps. If Luis goes, i'd take Higuain as part of any deal.

----------------------------------------

how much do you think that little lot would cost then?

Marko Marin is the man, Excellent player.

If we can ship out a few high earners, off the wage bill mate. Maybe we could afford, at least 2 of the players. Ramirez and De Jong maybe? But if we get a CL place, then our options of quality of players, will be higher. Just like it will be, with all teams in the CL.

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

We don't need to spend another 60-90million? lavezzi an soldado alone would probably equate to 60million... if we really want to challenge at the top we have to spend our money on the top players, its that simple. Marin, Soldado, Lavezzi, M.Sissoko... with those 4 (this is pure fantasy by the way, I know the outlay for all of them would be astronomical) we could be contenders..

SMc

All of us can talk about players, till the end of the season Smc mate. But none of us not even the owners or Kenny will know, until we see were we finish, at the end of the season. If we get a CL place then Lavezzi, Soldado etc, etc, will not be out of the question. These guys are that good that any team worth their salt, will be after them. Now we've to compete with PSG , Malaga etc as well as the usual suspects

We need CL badly mate, or the players will want to play for us. Lets hope a CL place will make their decision more easy.

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

I can't see any of these big players, with their huge wage demands, joining.
Nor do I want them, if their choice is driven by CL football.
We need young, hungry players who will develop and become the next stars.
Players who will be proud to wear the red, not who want to join cos we may or may not be a specific tournament.
Matt Philips types of players.
The Real KB

We all want players like that, KB mate. But the reality is, the best players play or want to play, in the CL. Ask any LFC player what competition, they would want to play in. You can be pretty sure it'll be the CL. If they didn't say the CL , is the place to be,.then they don't deserve to wear the red shirt. It's the pinnacle of club football and we should be there.

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

I'd want players like Gerrard who'd sweat blood for the team to get them into the Champions League than jump ship and not earn it.

The type of player I'd want is someone who believe in coming here and being apart of the project that is LFC.

Marin is a terrible player. And who's this Matt Jones fella?

Martin

Flew out last Saturday morn and didn't arrive home, to last night. Still have a bit of a hangover, been on the razzle for a few days, so excuse the spelling. What a fantastic day for us last Sunday. Some other teams fans will say, it's only the Carling Cup, it was only Cardiff etc, etc...But for us as a club, it was massive. We had to end our Cup drought, we had to make moves on repaying the investment, the owners made in the summer. If they thought they had any doubts about their club/investment, they were eased a little last Sunday.

LFC are known around the world for the 3 things, that make us as a club unique, trophies, history and us fans. Other clubs have the trophies, other clubs have the history. But no other club on the planet, has fans like ours. Last Sunday at Wembley showed the whole world (once again) why we are the best.

Thought Skrtel and Downing were fantastic, on Sunday.

Now tomorrow's game.

This is our most important League game, of the season. If we beat the Gunners, we'll be 3points behind with a game in hand. If we don't, then we can probably forget about 4th. Chelsea don't seem to be consistent enough, and both have harder run ins than us and Chelsea have to come to Anfield. A win tomorrow is a necessity not just for the 3points but to keep the morale and confidence up, coming into the last games of the season.

Sorry for the long post...thanks.

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

Ahoy Blair - perfect timing and perfect post.

We are what are right now - not what we were, and most importantly not what we want to be.

However we are making huge steps forward with owners who seem to care and wish to be involved a great youth strcture, a manager who no-one should doubt because he cares and has the clubs best interest at heart.

Tomorrow is important but we are good enough and should keep making positive steps. Downing & Henderson have both stated they wanted to join us to win trophies - this should fuel them for more success.

Lets be honest would you have seen the Glazers, Stan Kroenke, or Abramovitch in the dressing room sipping fizz from the cup.

Ed,
Liverpool had the entire Club Wembley levels, right around the stadium. When we scored you could see them all jump up. But half the ***** around me wouldn't sing. Sitting there, eating chicken nugget and chips. FFS !
Welcome to football in the 21st Century !
The Real KB {Ed001's Note - it frustrates me, people would rather take pics or fill their faces than actually watch the damn game and cheer the team on! There is plenty of time to eat after the match.}

Haha Ed001, During the Second half of ET and Penalties I must of done around 30 laps of my house and I could drink or eat.

Hit the nail on the head Blair, tomorrow is the most important game, bar last Sunday, of the season, but I also think that Spurs will implode as usual, think 3rd might be up for grabs.

Sooty

You think that's bad KB mate. I had my Spud bro talking sh!t, in my ear and telling me how good Cardiff were. Didn't say too much after the pens though mate. How could he, we won the Cup and he had no teeth left, after 90 mins.

Should be a good game tommorow, really looking forward to going. I think if Suarez has a good game and Bellamy starts and does I think we will win against there poor back 4. Really could have done with Lucas, especially if Stevie is injured, but Adam,Henderson and Spearing are more than capable of winninig the midfield battle against Song, Arteta and Rosicky. Good luck to the lads and let's hope we will be 3 points closer to Arsenal this time tommorow. Funny how they're appearing again now but were no where to be seen after the AC Milan and Sunderland games, let's shut them up again.

Just been looking at the tables (which i don't do very often) and without stating the bleeding obvious tomorrows game is huge if we have any ambition of finishing in the top 4. IF we lose i think its over, IF we win, we are in there with a game in hand. Although we already have a trophy in the cabinet if we win the next few games it would give us a great platform for the run-in and could turn this season into quite a respectful one.

I know with Commoli Saying that Big Players are interested in joining us and we all Think of Cavani, Lavezzi,Javi Martinez Blah Blah Blah Dont get me wrong i would love these guys at LFC but i literally cannot see LFC spending an absolute fortune again. I Personally hope we go for Gaston Ramirez i mean this guy is a Genius on the ball and for £12-15 million what a bargain he can play as an CF/CAM and is sheer quality, The players Lfc have bought are good but not great Downing shown how good he can be against Cardiff but he really needs to do it on a regular basis for me to agree he was a great buy, Suarez and Carrol need to Score more goals but i will always support the players.
LONG LIVE LFC...Y.N.W.A

We need to start finding the back of the net its that simple, We have no other issues we pass the ball round well we defend well, All we need to do is score i hope Kenny has a fantastic Shooting Coach working 24/7 with our boys... Its gonna be a fantastic match tomorrow Win Lose or Draw its gonna be one hell of a battle, Hopefully in our favour

MJ

We need to hit the target when in a favourable position. Too many times, the ball is blazed wide or high, or both.

If it was only that black and white MJ

Suarez and kuyt should play as sriker 2morrow and goals will come they have better understanding then carrol and not only 2morrow till end of the seasson if we want to finish in top 4

Kopite

We need to put the ball between the post and below the cross bar and on the other side of the goal line, right there in the G-spot lads.

Tizer red? And you believe that will give us a chance of 4th? In the league this year we havent won more than 2 successive games. We struggled against Cardiff in the league cup. Liverpool deserve the best but all we hear is concerns about lowering the wage bill. I think we are miles of were we need to be and the owners are unable or unwilling to do anything about it. Tommorows game will clearly show were we are in real terms.
--------------------------------

I believe we can make top 4 this season, but much will depend on the outcome of the Arsenal game tomorrow. I also believe that we only need a few players to be competing for the league.

We've had Gerrard and Lucas injured for long periods of the season. Big Andy has been out of form as too has Henderson and both are still finding there feet. Suarez has missed a big part of the season due to his ban and had very little rest in the summer. The team hasn't even had a season together yet and will perform to there full potential next season with everyone fighting fit..

We need a world class RW and a ST.

I'm not saying we will get these players but Hazard and De jong would be good signings plus replacements for who ever leaves.

Through the gelling of the team to the injuries and bans, we ain't doing that badly. A few points of 4th a trophy, and still in the FA cup.

There is no doubt in my mind that Liverpool will be a very difficult team to beat next season and Tuesday & Wednesday European nights are not too far away.

We need to take each game as it comes and get behind the team in every game, not just tomorrow.

Fair play and great reply. But while I want to be optimistic I fear we are way off needing 1 or 2 signings to be competitive. I dont get the owners concept that 1 big summer of activity would provide a platform.
If Adam,Downing and Henderson are the future we are doomed.
In 08/09 we were 1 or 2 signings off being a top side. The spine of Riena,Carra,Skertl,Masch,Alonso,Gerrard,Torres seems unbelievable now.

I just feel the owners cannot afford to build a winning team.

Henderson will come good and downing's starting to show up.

Remember Rome wasn't built in a day..

Why do peeople see Adam, Downing and Henderson like lepers? Look at squad that have won the league before, contain far worse players in there. Look at the squad who won the Champions League ffs! Who would put Dudek (Although he became a legend that night!), Djimi Traore, Luis Garcia, Finnan and Milan Baros in a team that was the best in Europe??
We have a great squad and maybe 1 or two players off from mounting a serious title challenge. I hope we can win it whilst Gerrard is still playing as he and Carra deserve it more than anyone I can think of.

I read a post asking if Liverpool/PL players smoked. I remembered reading that Balotelli does so I googled "balotelli smokes" to check and accidentally stumbled across a great example of media misreporting. 2 headlines about exactly the same story, on the same day, making completely opposite statements:

30th Dec.: The Guardian: "Manchester City manager relaxed over Mario Balotelli's smoking"

30th Dec.: The Mail: "Roberto Mancini begs Balotelli to quit his smoking habit"

Just goes to show how the media make up their own stories really

Are you talking about the same Steven gerrard who dragged us through to the champions league final twice winning once, single handedly won the FA cup for us and the same Steven gerrard who'd walk into any team in the world.
If the answer is yes then the man deserves every penny he gets.

When he was out injured everyone was begging for him to come back !

He did and got a goal against newcastle and everyone raved about him.

One game where he didn't have his shooting boots on and he should get rid of him.

Some liverpool fans are like yo yo's !

Lets back our team ffs.

I think with Stevie he needs to be played like Bellamy and a training regime that suits him like Bellamy and Gareth Bale,Ledley King etc. If he is managed properly he could do the same for us as Ryan Giggs did for the Mancs(Lasting into his late 30s). It just looks like Gerrard can't currently hack it at the moment due to the injury he recovered from keeping him out so long. Manage him well, and next season hopefully we see the old Stevie G, lets get Downing,Henderson,Adam,Carroll etc to step up. Its the only way fourth will be managed.

*long post alert*

I find Commolli's comments on the upcoming transfer window to be encouraging. I think it shows that 'our' club is being run properly.

I am a firm believer in having 3 players for each position - two 'starting quality' senior players and a 3rd player as backup for the inevitable injuries and suspensions a team will pick up throughout a season.

We brought in 9 senior players since Jan '11. That's a lot of players.

That we have talented youngsters coming through is no secret either.

If we splurge money this summer, we could derail what seems like a quality squad building project. The aim must be to slowly integrate our young talent into the side. Too many new players could prohibit that process.

Without new signings - I assume that the following players will be here next season.

(I put an 'X' beside players who may possibly leave, and (hg) beside homegrown players - also a '?' on positions that I suggest need filled.)

GK - Reina, Gulacsi, (that new keeper - sorry - forgot his name)
LB - Enrique, Robinson (hg), Smith (hg)
RB - Johnson 'X' (hg), Kelly (hg), Flanagan (hg)
CD - Carra (hg), Skrtel, Agger, Coates, Wilson (hg)
DM - Lucas, ?, Spearing (hg),
CM - Gerrard (hg), Adam, Shelvey (hg)
LW - Downing (hg), Bellamy (hg), Suso (hg)
RW - ?, Henderson (hg), Sterling (hg)
CF - Carroll (hg), Suarez, Kuyt 'X', Morgan.

As you can see - We have a strong squad - but it is light in some areas. Three in particular.

Namely -

DM - a quality backup for Lucas - Spearing hasn't cut it, but he is a good 3rd choice - he signed a new contract pretty recently, is homegrown and is a good pro - he'll battle to earn a place, he won't complain and on his day he can turn in a good performance. His passing and control needs to improve - he has good qualities though.

Lucas' injury was a real blow, Kenny put faith in Spearing when not buying another DM in Jan - but Spearing has not shone since. More competition is needed.

I see Coady as a contender with Spearing for that 3rd spot too - eventually taking his place in a year or two. We have Lucas - this new player need not be 'World class' - he will not be 1st choice - versalility is a plus - perhaps there is something to the Nordtveit rumours - Isla too.

RW - An absolute priority - We need a quality, first choice player for this position. Skill, pace, invention, crossing ability - We all know it!

Henderson can fill in here (give him time) but is not ideal as a first choice - Bellamy can play there if needed too (I prefer him on the right actually) - the likes of Sterling & Silva are coming through also - no need for any more players lest we stunt the youngsters' growth.

One Star please. Move the earth to try and go for Hazard. If not, move on - but please try! I'd love Weiss of Man City too - he's an excellent little player seldom mentioned (if possible) - potentially he's a real star.

CF - Suarez and Carroll will stay. I like Kuyt as a striker when alongside a partner with good pace and movement (ABYSMAL as a midfielder) - We need another option upfront pace-wise though.

Kuyt/Carroll does not - and will not - work. Kuyt is however, a very good backup for Carroll - albiet an expensive backup wage-wise. Adam Morgan must be on the fringes - either way we have a multitude of good players to fill in upfront though if we are badly hit with injuries suspensions (Bellamy again, Gerrard in an advanced role - or other kids).

This player must be capable of challenging to be a regular starter, next year will be a big one for Big Andy. I hope he's on form for the rest of the season.

Pace, skill, strength, good movement and a good finisher - and happy to compete for a place - we must spend in this area. From hearing reports - our rumoured target de Jong sounds a good fit.

Cavani is a dream - he would instantly be 1st choice (obviously). I wouldn't complain! Whoever we get must be either a star - or a player with geniune star potential who has proven his ability at senior level. (Abel Hernandez would be an amazing signing)

From what I see - we only need 3 signings - naturally, 'IF' GJ or DK go - they will need to be replaced too - but they are on very high wages, it shouldn't be a major problem.

As for our wage bill - before new signings - we should likely get rid of -

Jones, Doni, Aurelio, Darby, Poulsen, Aquilani, Maxi, Cole, Pacheco, Eccleston.
(I may have forgotten someone, sorry)

Thats a lot of money saved in wages each week - 250k - maybe (likely) even more! If we get a fee for some of them even better.

What we must not do is interfere with the project - look at our youth team/youngsters. We have -

Goalkeepers - Ward, Belford.

Defenders - Coady (DM candidate too), Smith (looks good, mentioned him as potential 3rd choice LB), Wisdom, Sama.

Midfielders - Teixiera, Nacho, Pelosi, Silva, Baio, Ojo.

Forwards - Adorjan, Ngoo, Ibe, Bijev.

Add this lot to Gulacsi, Kelly, Flanagan, Robinson, Coates, Wilson, Henderson, Spearing, Shelvey, Suso, Sterling and Morgan - It's clear to see why we shouldn't splurge on gutting the side at the expense of these youngsters. Some of them could prove to be class acts - a la Kelly. (You may have other favourites or I may have forgotten some, sorry.)

We have invested good money in young players - all credit to the owners taking this new approach. It would be pointless to do that and then buy a glut of senior players.

Pick good spots to invest in and encourage our current senior players to improve - whilst integrating the kids. (The Europa league would be a great opportunity to help this process if we don't make 4th).

Our wage bill should be trimmed nicely and the books balanced, which would be excellent work.

Three signings is all we need.

I think it's good to see us planning ahead. We have a solid base to build on. Also, many of our players are versatile and can cover a number of positions - and the homegrown quota is no problem to us at all.

I believe in the project!

We can really push on next season to improve on wherever we finish this season (hopefully we can seal a top 4 finish this year, but if not - we must improve and seal a top 4 place next season, that will be the aim.)

We can then reassess next summer and push on another level.

Also, remember folks - Top 4 was never a sure thing. Injuries, suspensions, luck etc have cost us some points this year -

We must be better prepared to cover for these potential eventualities (injuries/suspension) next year (luck aside obv!).

With signings in the mentioned areas, and the youngsters a year older and a year wiser - we will be.

Lets see how high we can get!

BJH YNWA (God, that's a long post even by my standards)

ps - Top 4 this season? Who knows?

That may be the difference this summer between targetting a Cavani or a de Jong - an Isla or a Nordtveit - or a Hazard or a Weiss though. (Just examples - you know what I mean!)

Nonetheless, top 4 or not - I still maintain 3 players is enough. Get the best we can and I'll be happy. No 'dead wood' - that's the main thing.

And no - I don't see Andy, Hendo, Downing or Adam as dead wood, they can all up their game and play a part in our future.

I have a sneaky feeling we could become a very good side next season..... we're good now, but just wait - it's all gonna click into place!

Rome wasn't built in a day.

pps - If you read all that, good on ye! You may be able to tell that I have given this some thought. lol.

You were`nt wrong about it being a long post!

Excellent post and no spelling mistakes.

Kev

You have alot of time on your hands

Good post bud, I thoroughly agree. Lee YNWA

I agree, whilst Cavani would be a nice player to have but we have Carroll, i'd feel bad for him if we just left him out.

I know what your saying re leaving Carroll out..but shouldn't we at LFC be like 'most top clubs' and have 3-4 top, TOP quality strikers at our club? All spitting blood and thunder to get their names on the team sheet! That's my opinion, here's hoping eh! Lee YNWA

I think at Anfield the novel idea of the fans playlists is waring off on me now, just seen on the LFC site the playlists for Arsenal, and its the same songs EVERY week - Ring of Fire, Paradise, I just cant get enough, I gotta feeling etc etc

Its not a radio station mate lol
k-h

Its not a radio station no, but surly they can play a different song instead of the same ones every week!

DC basically means will we add 3 or 4 players. Not 9 players like we have done before. How hard is this for people to understand.

02 Mar 2012 12:44:05
Just read Comolli's statement, not sure what all the fuss is about really, he only said what we expected. He said there wouldn't be another overhaul of the squad like there was last summer, just some improvement in a few positions. I didn't expect to sign 9 players again, I expect to sign 2 or 3 because that's all we need. We've got the best keeper in the world, a superb defence with class young back-up, and one of the best strikers in world football. I'd like to see us sign a winger and a cm or cf, not overload the squad with dross like Hodgson did. Downing, Adam and Henderson will all be better next season, Lucas will return and Coates, Kelly, Shelvey, Morgan and Sterling will be another year older and wiser. Add another couple of players to that and our squad will definitely be as good as Arsenal's and Chelsea's. Have some faith in the squad lads, for goodness sake.

Just curious Ed do you know if any of the Liverpool players smoke or are they banned from smoking?
Invernesian {Ed002's Note - I don't know but very few players smoke anymore. I can only think of one in the EPL who still smokes, but there could be more. Certainly there are coaches and managers who smoke.}

If you believe the media, Shrek likes to have the occasional smoke and again, according to some reports I've read in the past, Berbatov is apparently a 20 a day man.
The Goatherder

Didi Hamman is the classic with fag breaks in training! Others are Macheda, Gallas and Ashley Cole just to name a few.

Sam Adzii JFT96

Balotelli smokes and I've heard there are more. I doubt Kenny bans his squad from doing anything, he seems pretty hands-off about the players' private lives

Red Ollie

Reina is a smoker I've had a light off him twice, once outside the Liverpool shop next to jjb and the other outside Costco

KopEndDannyLFC

Wayne Rooney enjoys a ciggy - as does Berbatov.

A smokin' frontline eh!

BJH YNWA (I know, thats pretty bad.....)

Lol. someone already mentioned this I see.
Sorry.

BJH YNWA

I remember stories at the time (yes I am an old fart) that Alan Hansen smoked when we signed him and Paisley made him stop. Anyone know whether there was any truth in those stories?

Bob

A couple of years ago I was in a club... some of the Chelsea players were there. Lampard and Terry were both smoking. Cigars I think....

I am not much concerned with Commoli's comments as
I think we have a team so far underperformed if they performed to their level we would be comfortably in top 4.

Carroll or Suarez need to score 25-35 goals per season between them other wise we need a goal scoring forward and that's it not much change needed.
But what about the likes of Maxi, Aurelio, Kuyt, Doni and Johnson leaving. Certainly we need players to replace them that's at least 3-4 players.

I really think we 'll bring in around 4 players which includes a back up keeper [probably that free Swedish goalie]. Other than that Gaston Ramirez to replace Maxi & Matthew Philips to replace Kuyt & De Jong/Higuain as the striker.
Likes of Flanagan, Robinson & Shelvy would be used much often and will be squad players to provide cover for 1st choice players. With proper spot on coaching from Kenny this team has the capacity to be among top 4 or if lucky to win the title.

So Higuain wants to play Europa League? GET REAL

Suarez signed when we had no Europe at all, so maybe it's you that needs to get real!

Van persie doubtful for tomorrows game,a big plus for us if he doesn't play

Your all numptys we signed 9 players last summer, if you read it word for word and not take the medias comments which are probably altered he said we need tinkering not a massiver overhall expect acadamey changes and if we get champs league 3 or 4 big signings focussing on the wings and the strikers. But im happy with how the squads gelled i believe it to be a good squad but it just needs some time and timkering

@ Stating the obvious again in response to Macca earlier (and other derogatory replies) clearly posted by mancs or others wanting to stir!

Cheers Macca - we all thought it possible though hoped that the waste of 33 mins on Wed was no more than a niggle, seems the club rightly don't want to risk a longer term absence. As one of the other replies said, hang up the international boot as soon as you can Stevie, it's really not worth it now...

Look forward to seeing you back on the pitch for us...

Ed or fellow posters?

Commoli has said we will not spend much or bring in many players this summer. Im I the only crazy man here? Are FSG hoping to get lucky and win 4th in a lottery? Our squad is no were near competive in terms of winning the league or being able to progress in Europe.

I dont understand FSG and their strayegy, they cleared the debt GOOD, they spent big in one window after record player sales OK, but were to now? No stadium news and now they feel the squad only needs minor adjustments.

They may be better than H&G but I dont see the real push the drive or clout to take LFC to the next level.

When will the owners wake up and see we wasted the transfer kitty last summer and realise we need to do much more work on signing quality players.

Im baffled and worried about our chances of competing. {Ed002's Note - So you think the transfer kitty was wasted last year and want the owners to throw more money at the club? I would have thought most of teh fans would be pleased this week after the League Cup win last weekend. Of well.}

Its not a matter of "throwing money" the return on spend will not deliver lasting success. We over paid for players who under delivered. Now I dont want to waste money but we need to improve the squad or risk falling far behind. This weekend we have poor cover for a missing Stevie, Agger and Lucas. Ed 02 do you really believe that if LFC buy a striker a winger and a backup goal keeper we will be competing for the title next year or is the too ambitious for Liverpool Football Club. {Ed002's Note - I am by no means convinced Liverpool will be competing for the title next year>}

I pressed agree but I ment to disagree.

If you think we are going to bring players in like we did last summer your very much mistaken.

A RW and a CF is all we need and maybe a RB if Johnson leaves,

TIZER RED
YNWA

And on that I totally agree with you. I feel the owners have allowed a massive error of recriutment to take place and do not have the funds avialable to rectify this. I just dont think they as owners have the clout or know how to make LFC great again. I guess they are waiting to see what happens with TV money deals before they commit or walk away.

If you actually have read what DC has said you will see that it is very very clear - both after the CC final win and today:
Firstly "Big players want to join LFC"
Then now " We [Liverpool] will probably make some adjustments in the summer but nothing that we've done before,'' ''We signed nine players since Kenny came back so there will be a few adjustments but nothing massive."

Very clear really if you can read between the lines:
1., There WILL not Be a LARGE number of signings only Minor adjustments to certain positions of obvious weakness.. ie, striker, CM, RW etc..
2. The players targeted ARE going to BE MAJOR or BIG Name players!

And that is how it should be - we need a few (2-4) TOP QUALITY PLAYERS .. we have good squad depth now but NOT ENOUGH QUALITY . .that is clear..

That is what is going to happen and DC has just made it obvious..
Whoever made up the headline "No Massive Signings" should have said "No Massive Number of Signings" because that is EXACTLY what DC has said!

I think we have a team so far underperformed if they performed to their level we would be comfortably in top 4.

Try and get to grips with the economics - the NET spend is what affects the bottom line

Redpath

Some of the comments are quite staggering. Surely no one expects Comolli to say "yes we are going to spend a fortune on lots of players". This would merely increase the cost to Liverpool as clubs would put up the price tags. It would also have the effect of reducing morale in the present squad. Posters continually say buy this player, buy that player or give the youngsters a chance. Pep Guardiola has quoted that LFC academy is the only one to rival Barca and if handled properly we could produce 20 top players. Just think about that and the sort of team we could have - if they are handled properly. We can all wish but thankfully leave the short term and long term planning to those who know what they are doing. Possibly one or two shrewd buys this summer and gradual promotion of the youngsters next season. How many times has it been said there is not a quick fix solution. Fellow fans - DON'T PANIC have some faith!

Kev

To whoever said:

You should leave a name so people know who you are m8, you make good points.

Hi all, im a 47 year old LFC fan. I live in Kenya at the south coast. I am about to open a sports bar and restaurant. I have a lot of LFC stuff from late 70's and early 80's when I used to be a season ticket holder on the Kop. All this stuff will be displayed in the new bar.
I need your help with a good name for the place. I am hoping the Scouse sense of humour will come up with something I can use.
All ( sensible ) suggestions welcome. Remember, I may be a die hard LFC fan but I do have to deal with supporters of most of the other clubs and I dont want to scare clients away !
Cheers

CovoKenya mate,
It has to be "The Boot Room".
Perfect.

What about 'Golden Sky'?

At the end of a storm - it's the only place to go!

You could expand with a classy name like that..

Golden Sky sportsbars and restaurants. Sounds nice.

It's subtle - not too scary.

BJH YNWA.

ps - Good luck with whatever you decide - perhaps you could contact the LFC marketing department, they might offer a little help or advice. It's in their interest too. Butter them up with tales of the Kop and dreams of building the Kenyan fanbase. You never know.

Yep, 'The Boot Room' for me. Won't put other fans off and real Reds will understand the name. Good call KB.

Brucie's wobbly legs

As much as The Boot Room is a good name, they have one called that (Bar/Restaurant) at Anfield.

Something original perhaps..

I like 'Kopacabana' - sounds like fun! I'd have to drink cocktails....

Kenyan Kop is a little polarising.

BJH YNWA.

'King Kenya' or 'Kenya Dalglish'

Didn't you used to sign off with 'in AVB we trust'? Ha ha what's the matter you lost the faith?

Thanks guys, some great ideas there. I like both The Boot Room and Kopacabana. Will let you know what we finally agree on

Cheers

To the post 2 up, there is no chance anyone would want to wait for Brucie's wobbly legs to open so they can have a drink.

What about ' The Justice ', strong name and something in the heart of every Liverpool fan around the world and most football fans too.

Or how about ' Liverpool's Knee '

See Clint Dempsey scored again Wednesday against Italy enhancing his international scoring record which compares well wth other midfielders including Stevie. Double figures in the EPL for the last two seasons as well (including against us!). Always thought he is underated and that we should consider him. What do others think? We'd get 4 good years out of him and lots of interest in the USA so the owners would probably love it.

Iggypop

Totally agree for the 10m he woukd likely cost he would be a great addition to the squad and not much ofa gamble given his history in the epl

I reckon we could get him for less than 10m and that would be a bargain!

Iggypop

He'd be a decent signing but there's a lot of players who would be decent signings and would contribute to the squad. I'm a fan of Dempsey but I'd rather see us sign one or two quality players than four or five "Dempseys"

Red Ollie

He remind's me of Ray Kennedy!

Had a clear out in the office this week. Someone found a Man Utd gift box in pristeen condition - obviously an unwanted gift. Curiosity got the better of me so had a peek inside. Couple of keys and brochures. The most interesting one was "A history of Man Utd".....it was 12cm by 10cm and 3mm thick!

it was filed in the round filing cabinet!

Iggypop

That must have been the complete unabridged version with the colouring section for shrek.

You can't make that joke about United, they have a very impressive history in the game. Rivalry is no fun if we just make stupid jokes that don't have basis in fact

I have to say i can't wait to see the match on Saturday. With no Stevie and no Agger we are a bit weakened but then every team is weakened by injuries. I think we should start with Carroll as the Arsenal defence are really shaky and it could be a great game for him to really use his height and weight. Would be nice to see Bellers start aswell but if not, i would rather see Kuyt on the right than Hendo. Play Hendo in the middle with Adam and Downing on the left. Could be a perfect game for the new lads to really claim their places! Bring on the gunners and let us move closer to that 4th place!

I think Stevie G causes the team to not play as a "team" - hence the reason we dont seem to win games with him playing and also we dont play as well - just give the ball to him and let him try to win it - but he cant do that any more..
I am happy he is out on Sat v Arse.. I think Henderson offers more - more power, more energy for the FULL GAME - something SG just cant do now.. He should just be used as impact sub from now -- and told to just attack attack attack for 30 mins per game - so we can see the best of him in short bursts - which is all realistically he can now offer..
The team needs to move on .. Hendo is our best CM with Adam for now -- please please no more Spearing in the team - he was clearly shown out against MU for the ineffective , poor passer and lack of skill player that he is - just outclassed - this has been so evident before - it just is mind boggling how the LFC coaching staff cant see this and believe him to be a class LFC player - i doubt he would make even a mid table Epl Team to be honest..
We need of course LUcas back + another class act or 2 in mid now that SG is no longer what he used to be ..
These + a class right winger + a WORLD CLASS Striker (which we now DONT HAVE - both LS and AC clearly arent up to scoring bags and bags of goals which is what a world class stiker should be doing).. and our squad will be so so much better and capable i believe of a top 4 finish . .at least ..

One bad game (against united at old trafford, no less) and you never want to see spearing play again?
The lad always puts in 100% and has been pivotal in a couple of games for us. watch him against chelsea in the league cup, he was quality.
I'm not saying he should be a guaranteed starter, especially when lucas is back, but i'd like to give him more time as for me so far he's given me no reason to slate him

x
