Just to let you all know, Gylfi isn't in the Hilton at Liverpool One, (rumour doing the rounds on twitter), I live next door and receptionist says there's no one checked in of that name. Cheers.

He's under R.Stiltskin...

The receptionist isn't going to say yes are they?!

I'm sure the receptionist would tell you.

Isnt the bus station next door? You sleep in a bus station?

MIKEY

Wouldn't he use a fake name

Dont know or care if hes there or not but unless the rfeceptionist is a friend/source why would they tell you

02 Jul 2012 23:30:22
A mate of mine spotted sigurdson and his agent at the hilton in Liverpool just passing on what I heard could be bull but I trust him
John

If you trust him how could it be bull?

Another two to check off LFC's transfer list rumours:
Kwadwo Asamoah and Mauricio Isla
Both signed for Juventus.
FowlerGod.

Rather have ramirez and fucile

Pretty sure we didn't make bids for them mate.
United may well be a bit pissy that they didn't move for Asamoah, as for Isla... Juve were always favourites and we were only really watching the player.

Can I get a copy of this so called list Liverpool seem to have? It seems to contain every footballer who is currently playing around the world.

DownUnderRed.

Yeh mate(DownUnderRed). It's on FIFA12, but you can only look at 150 targets at a time...

hi ed002,

Your post, with regards to "The the patron saint of skiing, hiking and mountaineering"- is pure genius!

I can't say I'm any closer to working it out, but having seen what happens when players are mentioned directly, I can't say I blame you really (that is if its even a player your talking about lol). I had previously said I had a way around the abuse you guy received, it appears you've done one better.
I noticed in the post, under replies you said that you won't be posting any more clues (in response to one poster) I hope this is not the case. This is a very fun way of making the visitors of this site work for the answers for a change.

BRING ON THE NEXT CLUE!!

Thanks

REDBLOOD {Ed002's Note - It was just a message to Chris after all of the previous problems. Again abuse so it will now be mailed to Chris.}

Such a pity Ed,the troll's ruin it again for everybody.....

Any chance I could be cc'd in?

REDBLOOD

I second that REDBLOOD!
KiwiRed

I would also like to be CC'd into this email! Haha
Thanks for your hardwork EDs!

Cheers
Aussie red

Go on Eds, don't ruin our fun! why don't you start limiting posting ability of certain IPs? [FR]

I think blocking IPs may be a difficult thing to execute. Although I'd love to be cc'd in I also that's unrealistic as it would be unfair to the rest of the fans. I don't really see a way around this...

Looks like the majority will have to suffer due to the minority!

I'm sure the ed's will come up with something, maybe using the player-profiles log-in information.

Whatever the ed's come up with it will be much appreciated, even if noting is done

Thanks

REDBLOOD

From what I have seen off this website we are interested in Bernard, I would like to know of this interest is serious and if you reckon we will make a move for the player {Ed002's Note - You did not read what I wrote then.}

02 Jul 2012 23:08:10
Check site regularly, but is there anyway of adding a section for posts with credibility so I don't waste ages shifting through the BS?
I bet tomorrow someone will be claiming they've got a source our heard something, when in fact they've checked out the latest gossip column.

Gav the Red {Ed002's Note - The trouble is that the transfer page is getting cluttered- we will try and improve.}

02 Jul 2012 23:04:33
a tactical suggestion for BR
how about playing agger as a defensive midfielder...he could really do a job here, and give coates (with the odd carragher game) a run alongside skyrtel
that way we can head them off at the pass (forget spearing etc...of course if lucas is fit he can play this role)
and agger has the skills to set up moves too
what do you guys think

Why not just either play Lucas there or sign one and play Agger at the back?

I think convert Gerrard to centre back or sweeper in a back three. Would add years to his career and he's such a good player it wouldn't be a problem for him to adapt. His legs are going a bit for midfield. Lother Mattheus, in his thirties, converted from an all action midfielder to centre back / sweeper and he played there till he was 40.

Mantis

Oh jesus. let me tell you something that playing in midfield is a whole different ball game to playing cb. in defense you can see the whole pitch whilst in midfield only the top players with the best awareness can. not to mention that he is actually playing well at cb so why move him ?

02 Jul 2012 22:55:45
A twitter rumour, sig has been spotted going into the hilton in liverpool one. I thinks its BS but just reporting it

Haha Ive been waiting for a Sigurdsson has been spotted at....post lol. It was only a matter of time.

Joking aside I believe that he has agreed to sign for Liverpool though from other things that I've heard.

The guy who posted it was taking the piss

Stop the twitter nonsense

Hi eds problably a stupid question but just got the liverpool home jersey and was wondering who would be a safe bet to get on the back feed back would be much appreciated sorry again for the stupid question :)

D690 {Ed002's Note - Gerrard.}

JFT

96

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

Maxi, spearing or aqualani

JFT 96 on the back is the best option mate

KT! {Ed001's Note - that's what I have been getting for years! I was thinking of getting something different on an extra shirt though, still 96, but something other than just JFT. Anyone got any ideas for something fitting?}

Aurelio

Sigurdsson
4

Get Quinn as I suspect to be joining very soon!

Quinners!

Never thought about that blair mayne, that is very creative.. hmm

maythe-Red-bewithyou

Ed001, how about-

Never Forget

96

I had JFT 96 YNWA on the back of mine and found Canadians show a good deal of interest in what happened that day and what unfolded afterwards.

Bernard the Brazilian would appear to have dual Spannish / Brazilian nationality thus not needing a work permit. Is an attacking midfielder, worth about £2.5million and about one inch smaller (in height) than Leon Britton, who had the highest pass completion rate in the world last season. Who says size is everything!

Is it true we are trying for Tello and Callejon on loan? Possibly buying Tello if he does well?

Tello is not a new story.

02 Jul 2012 22:22:47
Eds. I heard there will be no transfer activity at LFC for another 2/3 weeks as the main idea is to put together our new scouting team. I believe we have signed 3 scouts from Man City.

02 Jul 2012 22:22:19
So what actually is a good season for Liverpool next season, I'd say realistically 5th and a good home record would be nice!

If we Finnish fifth and are in contention for ecl but I would hope for a top four,,

Quigz24

I think top 4 is realistic. We just need to improve against weaker teams. CQ

I'd love it if we went on a bit of a run in the Europa League. Knock it all you want, but there's no point finishing top 4 with a squad of players with little/no European experience

02 Jul 2012 22:18:49
Question for Ed's and fellow reds, who do you think has more potential..
sterling or suso?
-I know they are different types of players but I just wanted to see other's opinions on the matter. Thanks

Maythe-Red-bewithyou

Sterling

02 Jul 2012 22:17:48
I just have a question for everyone. It isn't exactly Liverpool related but I would like opinions. A friend and I are arguing because he is convinced that Ibra is the best player and was convinced that Sweden was going to win the euros. I just wanted everyones opinion of people on here. I told him Suarez was way better but he just goes on and on about how Ibra is the best so feel free to share.

Red Rat

Ibrahimovic has scored goals everywhere and his stats are superb but I don't rate him, never have and don't believe he would ever have been good enough in the prem

Chris in Tamworth

Ibra is lazy

Ibrahimovic is a class act. I've not seen a tall man with such skill since Van Basten. Of course Suarez is great too but it would have to be Ibra for me - when fully motivated of course.

Mantis

If ibra was half the player he thinks he is then he would be superb

When it really matters in the massive games, Ibra doesnt cut it. Suarez on the other hand........ ask Ghana!

Red G

Ibra spends his whole life in an offside position that's why he pi*ses me off... i agree with chris that he's got a great goal scoring record but i just don't like him as a player.

Hi ED's is there really interst in Bernard Anício Caldeira Duarte ? And mark davies of bolton, ano nearly every1 is saying wtf, but he made swansea's championship players look very much premier league players, so if BR believes a player will benefit us, let's all get behind who ever signs! Come on Brendan kidder, let the good times roll! Thanks ED"s DHH L20 Kopite!

Who's Brendan Kidder?

Just a little truth about Reina's situation:

He's deciding to quit football and become one of the Spanish national team's flight attendants ;)

02 Jul 2012 22:05:54
Not really a rumour. Just a bit of thought. With Lyon reportedly telling L'equipe that they would sell Lloris for "the right price" Would the club not entertain the idea of selling Pepe and replacing him with Hugo? This will cause controversy but Pepe is getting no younger and has just had the worst season since he signed, now yes I know it would be heard for him to have as bad a season next season. But with Lloris' years not as great as Pepe and with Lloris being one of the great goalkeeper of Europe surely it would be a feasible idea to replace Pepe with Lloris? I'm not saying Pepe isn't a quality keeper at all. All I'm saying is that by the time that Hugo is Pepes' age, I would expect him to be better than Pepe at Pepes' current age (if you can follow that). Just wondering what the Eds would think and what people would think.

Many Thanks

Tom

Keepers dont reach their prime until their 30's. Plenty left from Pep yet. Great servant to LFC and a great character.

Just wanted to know which players we actually are interested in? what kind of budget are we looking at realistically as we seem to make one big purchase every year followed by smaller ones and bosmans. If this can be answered. Will we be expecting BR to work with the player we have only as he has been given at least three years to make the top four. Or would it be too early to tell yet. Also the team BR will be working with behind the senses has that team been named finalized yet, the last I heard was that he was getting some Man city and Man United old scouts. Leem {Ed002's Note - Why don't you take the time to read other posts.}

If liverpool got rid of
Adam
Downing
Aqua
Cole
Spearing
Doni/jones

Your looking at 300k+ a week of the wage bill and would recieve a fair few million of the transfers. Then we can begin to spend on better quality. Although it looks like sig is of to spurs i rate him very highly and may regret it in 4/5 years time when he is at his peak. I know its not as easy as that just flogging a few players but it has to be done

Mason

Your looking at 300k just for aqua, cole and downing.

So this Summer as not been a great start with news that the supporters club I normally go with as closed. This was basically due to bad customer service last season and the man who ran it dreaded another season running the club. Which is sad really after he ran it for a number of years but totally understandable as nobody deserves the stress.

So I after find a my own transport and fight for my own tickets. Which should be fun but I suppose we support our club no matter what.

But I am really looking forward to a new season with european football.

hi ed,cant believe nobody has mentioned the fact that br is good friends with the special one!so do you think we could get some squad or young players on loan from madrid?

02 Jul 2012 20:28:09
Hi eds
Surely if Siggurdsson had chosen us he'd of announced it by now. He is probably waiting for spurs to reveal their new kit and then they can unveil him in it

Well done you read what the eds said....

Ed02 will be delighted.. your getting the point across. Congrats.

Quigz23

Or from another angle, it's taken longer because he's coming to Liverpool and it's taken a day or two longer because they've been agreeing to his deal i.e. wages and that, for example both parties agreeing on £60k a week. I don't know but I just don't see the point in Tottenham waiting to sign Sigurdsson to unveil the new kit, just seems pointless to me and something I don't think the kit manufacturer would agree with as they want the shirts on sale to sell them and make money, don't see why they'd wait for Sigurdsson?!

It seems unlikely to wait for a shirt to come out to announce a player as its not for another 11 days or so,I think hoffenheim would quite like the money im their bank account to buy a new player with rather than waiting for a new spurs kit to come out before they know what's happening with a player or receive a fee so they can replace him, I should imagine spurs, hoffenheim and gylfi would like this situation wrapped up rather than waiting to smile with a new shirt, he's hardly going to sell a new shirt with the likes of bale there already

02 Jul 2012 20:05:25
Ed002 you seem to know a lot about football, could you tell me briefly what co-ownership of a player means and whether it is beneficial or not to clubs. I know it is not allowed over here but I wonder why it is still so common in Italy...

Gh*Lfc {Ed002's Note - It is simply a means to manage the clubs finances better so they can get the benefit of teh player whilst only buying part of his rights. English clubs can part own players - Wallace, Ronan and Pernao of Fluminense are examples.}

02 Jul 2012 21:12:23
If anyone is going to the the Liverpool vs Crusaders match. don't be expecting big stars as Liverpool have a friendly on the 12th and there is an England friendly on the 15th and the Olympic football will be in full swing. All this before the first game on the 18th. I'm still excited but a bit wary
JK

You know it's our reserves don't you, so it will be youngsters

I was going to mate but it sold out very quickly so im gutted. but it did dawn on me that most of the big names wont be playing anyway! So my next choice is to hopefully hit up the Merseyside derby in October. Can anybody shed light on when the tickets for such a game go on sale and how difficult would they be to get a hold of? It would certainly be the biggest liverpool game I've been to so I'm not sure what my chances of getting tickets are? cheers lads. Rab

Of course there will be no big names, it's the reserves on a mini tour

So what if it isn't the full squad, if Liverpool Fc and bringing a team to your locality you should, irrespective of who os playing go and suupport the team, these are the players of the future, and may show the ones of the present who had a dire 2011-2012 season a thing or two. LFC is on the jersey enough said for me.

02 Jul 2012 20:24:39
I bought tickets to watch Team GB, im so disappointed Beckham isn't playing. The team seems pointless without him.

He is a player one player an old one at that who more than likely fulfil 90minutes anyway

So, Beckham ambling around a football pitch at a snail's pace putting in the occassional killer cross or pass is the difference between a game being worth watching or not?

Okay, bro, whatever you say.

- Something Red -

! Nice one mate, am still laughing! Poor old Becks hey? My heart bleeds for him, really does.

God I hope that was sarcastic. Benefit of the doubt, I'm sure it was ........
FowlerisGod

It should be purely for unestablished, young players like mceachran, sterling, barkley etc. playing against cavani, suarez, ramirez etc etc would benefit them greatly

Why would anyone pick him?
He's been selling shirts in the conference west for 5 years and he was washed up when he got there.
Add to that the fact that all he has ever done has been line his own pockets whilst creating a media circus and I have to say I think it's a great decision by Pearce (who I don't rate at all usually).
Oh and let's not forget if David doesn't come that means his oxygen theif of a wife won't come either which can only be a good thing!
Pair of thickos calling a kid a time!

Chris in Tamworth
(see, I told you I'd mellowed out Ed001!) {Ed001's Note - I agree with you, Beckham would have made the whole Olympic football tournament about him. It would have been a terrible move for a player who is no longer good enough to deserve a place on merit.}

02 Jul 2012 20:24:08
unrelated question, but im from ireland and have tickets for the arsenal game which is down for a saturday, was wondering when do sky bring out the tv lists for coming season??

Dunno mate but I wouldn't book any transport or hotels just yet. The Europa dates may also affect it.

Keep an eye out on sky text,
go to football, then the live on sky section, this will tell you if it has been switched to sunday for the live game.usually about 4 or five weeks before the game the fixture will appear.
hopefully they will show it as a 12.30 kick off on the saturday and you wont have to pay extra to change the flights, like ive done so many times before.

red jay

Good chance they may even move it to a Sunday... sly super Sunday

02 Jul 2012 20:17:44
Why are we even worrying about signing Siggy? He's a £6-7m player and although he's got a lethal left foot he'll be a squad player at best. IMO we need to start looking to unearth real gems to go alongside a couple of marquee signings. They are out there we just need to scout them. It's time as well to bite the bullet and start giving the young lads more of a run in the team. Sterling got on late last season for 20 minutes here and there but if we start playing these kids regularly I believe we'll reap the benefits even if it means a few losses here and there. If we don't we'll just see our talent get nurtured elsewhere

02 Jul 2012 19:35:05
Moses scored a whopping 8 goals last season and teams have to pay 12mill, (another overpriced player), would rather have Dempsey who scored 17 goals last season.

Victor Moses's agent has angered Wigan officials once again by admitting he'll do everything in his power to help his client join Chelsea

Moses has the natural statue to play PREM so pay up or shut up.

Dempsey is overpriced! How old is he! {Ed049's Note - 30}

I can see fsg buying dempsey because they want a yank in our team to raise are american profile, but neither are of the right level.

I thinks its safe to say that we wont be paying £12 million for Victor Moses.

What age Dempsey out of curiosity {Ed049's Note - 30 years old.}

If fsg want a yonk in the team get landon from la galaxy

Plus he sounds like a Private Detective
Clint Dempsey P.I

Dav001

Kuyt left for 1mill...

Dempsey for 10-12 mill?

Lee YNWA

Kuyt 2 goals
Dempsey 17 goals

Dempsey played nearly every game didn't he? I was just using age as a comparison Mr no name.

Not saying I wouldn't take Dempsey, but for that price - no chance.

Lee YNWA

So if a goal is worth +- £700k, so where the hell are Andy Carrolls 50 goals!!.

02 Jul 2012 19:22:42
With all this suspence of who we will and will not sign is exciting. Hopefully FSG have a few shockers up their sleeves? If not :(

Not bothered about star names, just good young skilful players, who want to play for the shirt and not the money. Players we can be proud to say we found them and they play for LFC. The new Ronaldo,Messi whoever. The next future internationals.
I have a good feeling about BR, he as learned his trade from some of the best in football. We could pull of a few suprises next season.

Congrats to Stevie G, only England player to make the Euro tournament 2012 team.

Lee73

You will not find a player on earth who does not want to play for the money, it is their job after all.

It will be John Henry up front with Carroll

I'd also have mrs Henry at the back!

Yeah like the shockers they gave us last year , downing and adam !!

Oh look all replied without a signature!

I this sigurdsson drama would end he's had one good season granted but he aint the be all and end all either way make your mind up boy i think its all gone to your head if your stalling over a bigger contract rather than joining a great club! i for one is getting bored of the whole thing...

He has not even had1 good season he had half a good season lol

02 Jul 2012 19:10:37
Id just like to no who we are looking at and wots goin on does anyone no {Ed049's Note - Read the Site}

Talk to rodgers

02 Jul 2012 18:43:29
the players that lfc are going for. are not the ones that keep being brought up. most of you are very far away from truth who lfc are after. i dont think you would know them unless you herd what br said about bringing 3 to 4 players that he knows that will make the diffence straght away. all i would say is lfc are thinking big and want results fast. we will all be surprised who will be coming.

Messi,Ronaldo,Xavi and Heskey ha ha ha ha

He also said "The best team is nearly always not made up of the best players."

This makes me think he could well be looking to bring in some pretty obscure or seemingly random players that may not cost the earth or be the most popular choices but will possess the attributes required to carry out his instructions and what is expected of them to a T.

To the poster above, don't be so naive. Heskey's wages would be astronomical!

We must have got few right, we are link with most of players out there.

02 Jul 2012 18:04:55
Sig 100% to Spurs, all this from his dad about him just wanting to play football is nonsense, it is all about the contract.

Absolutely in agreement I posted in the article that what his Dad said was irrelevant as he already had a medical at Spurs. Top marks must go out to his dad for keeping up the suspense. Player will join spurs barring last minute miracle

By last 'minute miracle' you mean an extra 20-30k a week should do it?

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

Bang on, I think it's already done and they will announce it after the new manager is announced.

No thanks - better options who are less mercinary

His dad came out with all this "best club" nonsense to try get Liverpool to try get a few more quid out of us.
As if Liverpool are going to be suckered into paying over the odds so a player can say spurs are better than Liverpool.
The very fact he is stalling signing for spurs shows he knows Liverpool is where he wants to be, as long as the cash is there.
I really hope spurs do sign him on high wages and are stuck with him.

MIKEY

I still think he'll sign for Liverpool.

He seems to be a bit of a wide boy,so he should suit spurs.Id prefer to see our midfield gel and see whos available in january possibly a designated rw/cf and at least one c/b then maybe someone who can hold the ball up to play behind the striker.Adam johnson would suit us on the wing,i think Dempsey would be a good shout for short term cover, and maybe Guttierez to hold the play up in midfield, but we defo need another defencive option,in terms of who,i think we should go for collocini always looks solid and is totally adept in most of the games ive seen him play, take into consideration that we have a lively group of lads already coming through the rezzies i would think it would be surfice to say that a bit of shrewd haggling and smart investiture would be the correct path at this moment.we should be optimistic not every player linked is going to sign but if we can build on some of the performances last season in particular the game against everton at home we can still be pushing in the right direction and maybe the new manager might turn out to be the shrewdest purchace of all.

02 Jul 2012 17:59:05
I think Liverpool lacked a team emphasis last season and it was only about 1 or 2 players thats why i think liverpool should sign players that arent *stars* but more effective team wise like Sinclair, Sturridge, Vorm, Siggurdson etc players that will do there best and not moan about it

How is sturridge effective "team wise", he is the greediest player ive seen in years. Head down, run, shoot. Does he ever pass? Hardly a Rodgers type of player

Totally agree re. Sturridge, an awful lot to learn and needs to learn fast. Di Matteao dropped him as soon as he took over

I think Sturridge would be a good signing. Plenty of talent.

Eds great site! Couple of questions do you know when the reds return for pre-season? And when will the players who took part @ euro 2012 be back? Also if Suarez and Coates are called up for the Olympics do they report for pre-season or will they be with the national set up? {Ed002's Note - This week; in a couple of weeks; they will not be back until after the Olympics.}

02 Jul 2012 17:51:20
what does the owners of LFC want , 2nd rated players to bring us CL football. I don't think so , I'm sure they must have a plan , or they just plan daft .

Eds - do you think if we dont get Sigurdsson we can make an audacious move for Ganso, who rejected a contract extension?
{Ed049's Note - No}

02 Jul 2012 17:42:13
RN red -

other players born St Bernards day: Charles N'Zogbi, Ji-Dong Wong, Tom Carroll. if that's of any interest.

my personalfavourites are KB for 'most likely interpretation', and BigBadBen for what can only be described as sheer genius!

Eds - can we have a cryptic clue a day? doesn'e have to be anything related to inside information, but this is without a doubt the best post chain since the adventures of Ken Aguero in 2009!

Lol. It reminds me of the coded messages sent to / fro between Hannibal Lecter and Red Dragon !
The Real KB

And Bernard of Athletic Mineiro has a wiki page and someone has added that he has signed for us yesterday for £12m. Thats got to be someone off this site or even Ed002.
I did think it was a loose reference to "Blackadder" at one point and the charachter Nursie. Given the constane questions to Ed002 about his/her gender, for those that don't remember HER name was Bernard

Bernard of Athletic Mineiro is on the verge of joining Liverpool!! The 19 year old Brazilian has said that it is his dream to play on one of the 'big leagues' and his agent is discussing wages with the Liverpool board today!! I for one am very excited and can't wait to see him in action!
Cheers Kirn YNWA

I really hope so but somehow doubt it

I look forward to watching him .Not at Anfield, but in the new Hobbit movie with Jay Spearing.

Hoy Hoy. personaly im not expecting big things in this window, its brendans first time buying players with a big club and we have apprehensive owners from KK's spending. I do beleive last years buys will settle this season and brendans tactics will lead us to a fourth/fifth place finish!

I agree, not necesarily with the position though. I think I would be happy if this season we just managed to close the points difference to the top team by a lot, at least we would be going in the right direction then.

Arsenal are having a big overhaul and chelsea and tottenham have got new managers, BR is better than their new guys 4/5 is a good shout

A lot of rumours on here Are all about kennys old targets. BR has a completely different philosophy and way of playing to dalglish. I expect a few suprises before the season starts and I expect us to be looking at premiership players rather then the endless list of unknown "new maradona" foreigners that people constantly link us with on here

Bring Back Babel - on transfer list at hoffenheim, needs a chance ! {Ed049's Note - No way}

That just goes to prove how right the decision to let him go was.He has obviously now failed to impress at a lower level than the EPL.

Lower level than the EPL? The bundesliga is the best league in the world. The quality of competition and football is much better than the premier league.

I despair, I often wonder whether some people have actually seen Babel play (and I use the term loosely), he is a headless chicken.

I also despair. It seems that fans of English clubs have become for the large part so arrogant that they can't bare to stand the idea that a league be better than the premiership. The fact of the matter is. The standard of football in the prem is below that of the bundesliga, te teams of which are all technically gifted whereas only a few from the premier league even try to expand their horizons. Having said that, babel hasn't really flourished since he was in the Dutch league.

I completely agree. Just because the premier league is physical and fast doesn't make it the best league. La Liga and Bundesliga are right up there too.

I Know we struck a deal with swansea about signing players but if Scott Sinclair become available is there a Chance we could sign him as swansea couldnt afford to let hin go for free next year?

Thanks
Mighty reds

Can i have an opinion on this eds please?

Mighty reds {Ed002's Note - A better question would be is Liverpool a club that would honour an agreement or not?}

The reds will not go back on an agreement but swansea will not let sinclair run down his contract.
if he does not sign they will transfer list him which gives him freedom to talk to liverpool as the agreement is not to bid for players settled at swansea which clearly sinclair is not.

Why ask such a stupid question? we ARE NOT signing any Swansea players this window stop asking!

Why do you want him?

Kudos to our ole boy Torres! Only started one Euro game and still won the golden boot. He is no longer a Liverpool player, but will always be remembered in red.

Well done lad.

Coop

I was screaming for Spain to win wearing my Espana shirt and bandana:-)
Could not really care less about Torres scoring though after the way he sulked at LFC that last season.

He scored twice against an Ireland team that had given up n scored once against an Italian team beaten and struggling with 10 men.. Hardly the prolific goalscorer a golden Boot usually befits!
But good luck to him.. Im sure whatever happens he is happy with his haul of medals just as Pepe Reina is with his..
ItsNotRocketScience

He didn't deserve it, pirlo played better and set up most of italy's goals, why didn't he or i hate to say it ronaldo get the award.

Maybe Pirlo didn't get it because it's an award for top goal scorer and not given based on opinion or assists

My 'Mate' seems Very sure that Lfc will infact sign siggurdson and that it may well be secured within the next 24/48 hrs. My 'Mate' knows someone who usually only tells them when they are 100% confident. But i'm saying Mate because i cant say his name but he's been accurate so with the Dalglish situation aswell as Enrique and Henderson at least 3 days before confirmation. But Ed's you must have heard something. Please?

Henderson for me is the worst signing ive seen in the past 5 years. He simply stands there and reluctantly asks for the ball before passing it 5 yards with very little invention; he cant beat a player; hes an average passer, crosser and shooter; and hes not very physical either. All that for 16m. I dont really care if he's got 'potential' because quite frankly I am yet to see any sign of that. Potential means certain areas of their game are very good but they may not be very consistant every game or their lack of experience can sometimes go against them, but you can see signs that they will be world class in the future, what has he shown to make anyone think he is going to be world class, anyone? With Carroll you can say he does have potential, he's not the finished article but on many occassions hes shown he can be a real nightmare for defenders at both club level and international. Ive never watched henderson and thought 'wow', have you honestly? For that price we could have bought others of the same age but far better quality. Rant over.

Pete

Idiot

If you don't like players passing 5 yards i think you better get your "Rodgers out" flag ready.

If you can't see that he has talent then you are crazy, fans like you are the reason he isn't confident.

KT!

Pete you are blind and will be proved a complete nutter. No Guarantee he is going to be great ( although I think he might prove pretty good) but to suggest he is worse that Poulsen or Konchesky is ridiculous.

Agree with everything you say about Henderson. There is nothing I would not agree with. When we signed him for 16m I have Mackem friends who could not believe the money they got for him cos they do not rate him at all.

Pete mate dont say anything truthful on here , because so called fans get on your back about your opinions , call you names and that your negative and then asked for and get you banned , type my name into trhe search function and you will see ,,,,,,,,,,,,,mickey b

Funny old world - I have a number of Mackem friends who were absolutely gutted he left, and also thought we got him on the cheap because of his potential - and I totally agree with them.
John B

Opinions are fine - but writing complete nonsense is not.

I can't wait for the season to start and people will remember your names, trust me.

Carroll bashers have pipped down, as will the Henderson brigade soon enough..

Give the lad a chance to prove himself ffs. If we were in a better position, financially and (Champs)League wise, then we could prob attract Ozil or Kaka to satisfy your wet dream...

Lee YNWA

Lucas.....?
jonnybarnes89-90

So Poulsen or Konchesky were better signings than Jordan Henderson?!? Get a grip!! Besides Henderson will be boss next season and years to come!

We love that guy {Ed049's Note - I like Henderson as well.}

Didn't xavi win the player of the euro's tournament with in excess off 500 passes predominantly each one averaging 5 yards?
whinge all you like 'kids' but henderson's pass completion & work rate stats make him a prime candidate for a regular spot in BR's team(alongside stewart downing who had a pass completion rate of 82% on the ground in the attacking 3rd of the opponents half last year!)

TBF the OP asked what attribute or area of his game has he impressed with? No-one has answered that Q just slagged off the post

Gav

A) how many games has he actually played bad in. not many, he just isn't playing amazingly so people like you are calling him crap.
b) how many players do you see work as hard as him? the lad has some engin on him. as well dirk kuyt listed him as LFC's best trainor.
c) how good was lucas at 21? not great. in fact a**e holes like you actually boo'd lucas. i for one am shocked he didn't leave, we can be thankful that he has a great mentality on him. now i'm not saying that just because lucas came good means that he will but hendo has the attitude, commitment and tools to do it.
d) with regards to the home-grown player rule, which hendo's purchase is clearly adressing, what young english players would you rather have bought? please bear in mind that oxlade chamberlain was only playing for southampton at the time, i mean he is the u-21 england captain. even now he has had his first year to settle and made the england squad for the euro's, albeit on call, but still he has quality. i am actually glad he is playing for liverpool. so give the lad a break.
derryred

Gav, I could of mentioned his outstanding performance against Blackburn...his wonderful volley against Utd, numerous pin point through balls, his versatility, energy, willingness to learn, excellent technique..etc etc..

Most people, looking above, have actually watched him play. They realise he's still very young and can only get better.

Lee YNWA

Yes but Xavi can also play the killer pass when it's on - like the perfectly weighted through ball for Albas goal. Oh for a Liverpool midfielder who could do that!

If you want to see what potentially Henderson is capable of then I suggest checking out the united game at anfield last season. Came on for 15 minutes and almost won the game. I think that was one of the few times he was allowed the freedom to express his abilities. He has a fantastic amount of stamina, technique and mobility and as his experience grows he will know when to break forward and take his opportunities to attack.

Weston90

THE LAD HAS A RITE TO PICK WHERE HE WORKS !!

Who does he think he is ? lol that made me laugh and if he doesnt care who he plays for whys it taking so long ? your a typical liverpool fan you think every player should sign for you cus of your success 30 odd years ago and not your mediocrity for the last 20 years

If the Icelandic journo is to be believed, its his agent (and not Sigurdsson) who is pushing for the Spurs deal. His agent is apparently Jonathan Barnett; the same guy who represented Ashley Cole during the tapping up saga with Chelsea. Make of that what you will...

He clearly does care which club he plays for otherwise he'd just be at hoffenhiem raking in the money on te bench. The fact that he has a decision to make suggests some degree of consideration, once again showing that he cares. Derp.

Who cares anymore

Hoffenheim officially announce siggurdson situation!

Manager Markus Babbel has indeed confirmed that a deal is close with a Premier League club and it is now "about the final details." So, do we think it's Tottenham or Liverpool?
Will be announced by the end of the week. And thats official!

Yann lfc

To be honest I am tired of this whole saga - if he wanted to play for LFC he would have come out and said by now.

The fact he is even negotiating with another club suggests he isn't interested.

Forget him and move on - he would have been a good addition to the squad.

JRG

Here is the exact quote from the Eurosport website:

Hoffenheim coach Markus Babbel confirmed on Monday that the 22-year-old is close to making a decision.
"Gylfi Sigurdsson is nearing agreement with a Premier League club," Babbel told the club's official website. "It's all about the final details."

If its Spurs, why would he still need to agree "fine details", as I thought they'd sorted his personal terms...

Good point to be fair.

surely with allen talking about moving and sinclair in last year of contract if swansea decide to sell then liverpool have as much right as anybody to bid as we are not doing the approaching .

was shelvey not even considered for the gb team?tom cleverly barely played last season and got in?i personally think shelvey shone when he played

Agree, but I'd rather have him training with BR than working for Stuart Pearce.

How Pearce has been given such a position of responsibility with the FA and now the GB team baffles me.

Plenty of passion, and wears his heart on his sleeve. But since when does that qualify anyone for top coaching jobs?

Joe

The only thing that shines from shelvey is his head. Not good enough for LFC.

Well it is stu, the dunce, pearce as manager , what do you expect , the right mix of players or even attacking football ,get real..............lfc

I agree...pearce would have shelvey playing a defensive role anyway, better off having a full pre season with rodgers under his belt

Cleverly is better than shelvey no matter how much I support Liverpool that's a fact.

When i first saw the squad i looked to see how many Liverpool Youngsters were picked and was disapointed there were none.. but considering how close the Olympics are to the start of the season, Im well happy weve only got Bellamy to worry about.. i want ALL of LFCs squad ready for WBA!

You may have to add suarez to that though..

I'm sure he would of been on the short list. At the minute cleverleys better. CQ

I agree with Joe on this one....
Absolutely baffling how Stuart Pearce is anywhere near an england squad senior's or junior's.
When he took over fom Capello for 1 game he managed to create a situation with the captaincy when all he had to say was I will give it to the vice captain for 1 game. Utterly clueless... And then I saw his assistant for his 1 game in charge.....STEVE WIGLEY!
It seems to me that the only experience you need to get a role inside the FA is a pizza commercial!
Two players(PEARCE AND SOUTHGATE) who failed at the highest level are now plotting the future of our game.... with Steve Wigley as back up!

The truth..rodgers will not sign anyplayer untill he get a chance to asses the current squad which will be when they return for pre season..and he was interested to sign siggy but not that serious since there is enough midfielders..and the players agent treat us like we are man city or psg..and dont wory there is enough cash to spend.we show our interest in ramirez, vargas, johnson and unidentified striker..my friends dad is one of the staff member..if u dont believe it wait and see#leo

Alll that you've said is pretty basic. anyone can guess that.
derryred

Hmmm. And by 'assess' what do you mean exactly? Have a training session and make a decision? Surely Rogers has been working on this since his hiring. I suspect he already knows the strength and weaknesses of the players. Perhaps he wants to find out who is interested in playing for him.

02 Jul 2012 14:48:50
Recent post stated that we were interested in Dempsey, Kalou, Adam Johnson and Mark Davies. EASY: just swop them with these four flops - Carroll, Adam, Downing and Henderson . . . simple!

How is Carroll a flop you t-t, the rest yes but Carroll is going to have a boss season and will get better. SAV

Unfair to brand hendo and carroll as flops when they still have lots of time to work out.
derryred

Sick of Henderson getting the 'flop' tag. He'll be a great player. Some fans obviously haven't learnt their lesson from Lucas. Get behind the players you clowns.

Carroll had two and a half good games at the end of the season. How many goals did he score last season? He cost 35 million quid. I consider that being a flop big style. I would rather have Dempsey in cos he scores goals and that is what Carroll was bought to do and he hasnt.

At 35m Carroll is a flop.

I agree with this post. I would gladly swap these four players, good shout.

Personally I would say out of the four players mentioned - Carroll, Henderson, Downing and Adam that Henderson is the worst player and I only missed three games all season - fact.

Simply put, if you paid£35m and did not get the results you expected, then how else could you label such a player.
Its like buying a ferrari and only getting the performance of a bmw or merc, or in AC's case a fiat.
With this in mind, yes he is a major flop!.
Can't argue with that.
The rest should also be considered in the same way.
Big money = Big expectation!.

And when they all gel properly, you will all be saying great signings lol support of the club my backside they have not settled yet!!

The chances are that all four of the players mentioned will be at the club next year. For Liverpool to have a good season we need all of our players to play well.

Abusing these players is going to achieve nothing. Why not support and encourage them and maybe they will get some confidence and play better?

There used to be a time when Liverpool fans were renowned for their support............how times have changed.

JRG

Mediocre players do not add anything to a glorious club like LFC.
They are all just very average.
Can't excuse their performances, as they are all English based players.
One has to realise that average is just not good enough for LFC.

02 Jul 2012 14:13:55
Hi ed's,

What's the hold up regarding the siguardson situation?

His dad apparently said that gylfi would make a decision by Sunday and hoffenheim had previously stated he had until the 30th of June to sort a transfer so I'm surprised nothing has been announced yet either way.

What's the general feeling at the moment? I'm hoping he chooses Liverpool as I think he'd be a quality addition.

From his point of view, if it isn't about the money, surely lfc would be the obvious choice, a manager who he likes and a captain like gerrard who will help him progress even further as a player or spurs who have no manager yet, and are set to lose 2-3 of their best players in modric, van de vaart and adebayor. Personally I don't rate AVB either and was very relieved he didn't get the lfc job.

Andy {Ed002's Note - What sort of announcement are you expecting? And from whom.}

Why state that if wasnt about the money Liverpool would be the obvious choice? We are not the attraction we used to be in the past. Spurs are now ahead of us as are many other Premiership clubs, get real.

After 20 minutes I realised that Italy were knackered.

After 40 minutes I was totally bored with the match. I wish Germany or Portugal had got through.

The Spanish passing style might be effective but after a while I lose interest. I put on a DVD instead and didn't watch the second half.

Now every team in Europe will try and copy the Spanish style. It will be just another fashion that comes and goes.

Some bright spark will work out a way to defeat it. It won't take long. Just after England won the World Cup in 1966. The Ramsey style was figured out and England didn't do so well for a while. England relied on Bobby Charlton and lots of running from the other players. It was original at the time, but did not last.

I prefer Brasil in 1970 and even 1982. They had some quite amazing players. Quote Mario Zagallo," Who am I to tell Pele how to play football."

My point ?

Don't hold out to many hopes for Liverpool playing the passing style. Henderson, Adam and Downing just don't have the ball control. Carroll is a big lusty centre forward who favours a different style.

Socrates 82

Point one: The Italians were not worthy finalists.
Point two: The match was boring.
Point three: I prefer style over results or I have a short attention span or I had a DVD I needed to watch before bringing it back
Point four: The Spanish win is a fluke, they won't win again because they'll get figured out soon.
Point Five: I'm old and possible Brazilian or I just like to start my sentences with: Back in my day...
My Point: Kenny's transfers won't be able to play the Spanish game.

No offence mate, we all have moments when we ramble on without focus. I had a bit of fun with it, but it's just for laughs. Try to enjoy your day.

Canadian Fan

Socrates, I lost interest in your post after a few words. How very...dull

I would rather we play like germany. ri red

Well our pass and move style of the 60's and 70's favoured toshak and rush. granted carroll is of a different build to rush but there are plenty of examples of target men who can play in a tika-taka formation. i.e. llorente.
derryred

Spain are boring to watch.
I would have preferred a Germany vs Portugal final.
The tiki taka (tap-tap) style is just not enjoyable.
I pay good money for entertainment, not to be bored sh*tless!.
If you like it, become a Barca fan.

"some bright spark will figure out how to beat it, it wont take long" how long are you talking about because no-one has figured out how to beat it in 4 years during which time they have won 3 major titles in a row breaking record after record for a national team and have become very possibly the greatest international team of all time. If we had that kind of success for 4 years while "some bright spark" is trying to figure out how to beat us then i would be made up, well done for most pointless post of the day though

Anyone else lose interest and are about to put on a DVD

Kimmy

Socrates82,

Now, Spain are playing the utter most simplest way. Remember playing or watching 10 year olds on a saturday, where just about everyone of them would follow the ball around the field?
That is the most affective way of getting the ball from one end of the pitch to the other.
Add a little flair and confidence, promote touch and vision as they progress it genuinely is a very very easy training method.
It gives you clear assessment who will and who will not make the grade.
How can you say Henderson, Adam & Downing dont have any control? they are proffesional footballers, Robbie fowler had a stinker of a first touch but more than made up with his natural finishing.

My point?
What is it that you and others are so scared of? change? failure?
Well, last season we failed, FSG have changed and approach this season with i believe to be a fresh look.
Way overdue in my eyes.
Piddy.

Oh, P.S i wouldnt be surprised to see current spanish team playing together for years.

What s**te are youse talking spain are by no means boring spain playing football is football being played at its finest.

gee man

I also found the match boring, probably because I did not want either side to win. I prefer a match with contrasting styles. Not teutonic vs teutonic or latin ve latin. Tetonic vs latin makes a more interesting contest.
I nodded off in front of the TV, it might have been the beer. Then the wife let the cat in and the damn thing woke me up.

As for the Spanish style, well Barcelona have Messi. I am sure that makes a difference. Spain are good, no doubt about that, but the opposition is poor.

As we are tripping down memory lane,"This Petras makes tremendous 30-40 yard runs!" - Malcolm Allison.

Didn't see much of that.

Spain have won 3 tournaments on the trot. Has that even been done before? You obviously don't like football nor watch much of it. You don't appreciate a final be here Spain showed there true domination. And you don't think Henderson has good enough ball control/skill. That's one of his main attributes. All knowing football fans can see he will blossom under BR in a 433.
CQ

Spain ? Big deal. They were nearly beaten by the Portuguese.

What a dreadful site !
Liverpool are finished.
Who is Rodgers ? A nobody with a filofax on football.
Get used to top stars leaving and hovering around the drop zone.
The people here do not know what is going on.
Leave the whacky-baccy alone !
Money rules OK.
We will buy - nothing. FSG are out of our league. They like Rodgers will be gone by Christmas.
Benitez will be seen as a Golden Period.

does anybody else think Jamie Redknapp has the potential to be a super manager one day? eds? {Ed001's Note - god no.}

Where at Tesco's or quikfit - certainly not at a football club

Jamie Redknapp would literally not be a triffic manager.....

He would probably injure himself walking in the technical area

Hi EDs,

just a question RE the Sigurdsson deal. One of the EDs said we (LFC) have not agreed a fee with Hoffenheim so how could Sigurdsson choose to move to LFC even if he wanted to? I believe the ED in question said it was Spurs, Swansea and Reading who had actually agreed a fee with Hoffenheim.

Thanks in advance.
Paul. {Ed001's Note - because he could force his club to deal with us by refusing to go elsewhere. I very much doubt that will happen.}

ED i have just heard that who ever signes Sigurdsson is going to have to pay £70,000 a week wages for a player who as had a good 6 months with READING,please tell me this is not true £70,000 a week omg thats just nuts. Redjay

Ok, I've asked this before, but as no one responded, I'll ask it again. Where was it stated that Liverpool hadn't agreed a fee with Hoffenheim, or (more importantly) that they wouldn't meet the £8m valuation? Markus Babbel made it clear that he had been allowed to speak to Liverpool, so perhaps they chose to attempt to agree personal terms with Sigurdsson first and once that had been achieved, they would submit a formal bid?

I've seen nothing in the press to suggest Liverpool wouldn't meet his valuation, so I'm curious to understand where this story emanated from.

Truthfully, i feel that we would only buy 1-2 players, becuase i believe that Rodgers will be using our reserve team players as subs/rotation players like Coady, Sterling, Suso and so on...

Coady isnt gonna be good enough , he will be another spearing

I know many would skin me alive in saying this.. But I think Fernando Torres has unfinished business at Anfield..

He played 189 minutes at the Euros and won the Golden Boot. I know he scored in big wins, but he looked sharp and looked like a genuine goal threat, which he hasn't done for most of the season.

There's life in him yet, and his move to Chelsea clearly hasn't made him any happier. If anything, he looks even more miserable than he did when he finished here.

That said, I think his bridges have been burned, and even they hadn't, Chelsea wouldn't sell him back to us.

- Something Red -

Let's hope he doesn't pick 20th April 2013 to do that business.

He's got unfinished business with chelsea if anything.

I remember watching the match between Spain & Ireland at the Euros and the Irish were belting out 'The fields of Athenry'. I wondered whether it brought a smile to the faces of Alonso, Torres, Reina and Arbeloa and reminded them of the Kop. They may go to any other club, but nothing beats Anfield in full voice!

He knows he'll never be adored as he was at Liverpool and a part of him must miss that. Come January, when he still finds himself sat on the bench for most matches, perhaps that part will convince him that he made a terrible mistake...

The only unfinished business he has is to finish taking a dump on all the faith and support all the fans had in him. Torres is a closed chapter. End of

Gh*lfc

Granted he does look sharper but he didn't score important goals. he scored 2 against a poor ireland side in the group stage. he then scored in the final after the game was more or less won. he played poorly against croatia and it was navas, who came on for him to score the winner. great players do it when it truly matters. i'm happy for him but i don't want him back. its time to move on.

Torres, do me a favour.
He can just p*ss off back to Spain, and take his 30 pieces of silver with him!.

..........Torres was also playing against 10 tired men!

Your information is much appreciated.

Regarding Alonso he was very rarely the player that released the final ball. 143 games for Liverpool and only 7 assists prove this. What Xabi was, was similar to Pirlo for Italy in terms of dictating the play from the deep but obviously he had his own style. He would consistently spray accurate passes to the fullbacks, wingers and Gerrard (behind FT), tidy up loose balls and despite his lack of pace his positional sense and timing was and still is awesome hence his great tackling and tempo setting ability.

Rafa fell out with him and called him a selfish b@st***. If Xabi is to make a return, I would imagine it would be in 2 yrs time when his contract has ended but next summer IF LFC have got into the Champions League I am sure he would be tempted.

I am very confident that Rodgers will improve the current squad both as individuals and as a team, he is a proper decent coach unlike Dalglish who wholst is a legend and obviously has a vast knowledge of the game, he is not a coach he is a motivator. Current players and those that plaed under his previous regime can confirm this. Clarke was the coach, he is great defensively but failed to implement a clear attacking vision and consistent style of play. It is Rodgers task to do this asap and I am confident that he will.

Cheers JY

I'd have to disagree about us not having a clear attacking vision. We had the attacking football but all our strikers managed to get Kuytfoot whenever they were in front of goal and miss.

I still can't quite get my head around how we didn't win at least 8 more games last season. Oh well, water under the bridge.

Key thing for Rodgers is TIME. He needs time, players he brings in need time. Quite a few of our supporters didn't afford that to Kenny and treating Rodgers the same won't get us anywhere.

- Something Red -

We created a lot of chances but most were not clear cut, rodgers will create more clear cut chances and dominate possession against the bigteams

UEFA Euro 2012 Team of the Tournament in full:

Goalkeepers: Buffon (Italy), Casillas (Spain), Neuer (Germany)

Defenders: Pique (Spain), Coentrao (Portugal), Lahm (Germany), Pepe (Portugal), Sergio Ramos (Spain), Jordi Alba (Spain)

Midfielders: De Rossi (Italy), Gerrard (England), Xavi (Spain), Iniesta (Spain), Khedira (Germany), Busquets (Spain), Ozil (Germany), Pirlo (Italy), Xabi Alonso (Spain)

Attackers: Balotelli (Italy), Fabregas (Spain), Ronaldo (Portugal), Ibrahimovic (Sweden), Silva (Spain

Has there been any other major tournament where the Golden Boot winner didn't make the team of the tourny?

Only England player is Gerrard. And he has what 3 goals and 5 assists in England's last 3 major tournaments, which is probably more than the rest of the team combined.

But he never performs for England, does he?

- Something Red -

Torress doesn't deserve to be in the team of the tournament.

PersonALLY THINK GLEN JOHNSON WAS THE TOURNAMENTS BEST RIGHT BACK

Where is croatia s mandzukic he did more than ibra

And silva had a pretty poor tournament barring the goal in the final, its just a list of big names..poor decisions in some key areas

no glen johnson best right back at the tournament, no mandzukic, no golden boot striker in torres

How can the golden boot winner not get into the team of the tournament? are you mad or just have LFC blinkers on? and yes I do support LFC. I don't begrudge Torres any success. We got a decent amount of money for him.
It's the likes of Owen and McManaman that I have a problem with. Not signing new contracts and leaving on a free or next-to-nothing.

Liverpool targets are from Adam Johnson, Scott Sinclair, Victor Moses, Clint Dempsey and Gylfi Sigurdsson, Salomon Kalou, Mark Davies and Steven Davis.

All are decent enough in their own right, but would any combination of these players help make us contenders for the top four?

Jedi

Playing the right way - answer is a yes, football is a dead simple game - as long as we have the ball the other team can't score, and if we do lose it - fight like mad and work hard to get it back.

John B

If these are the players we have been linked with god help us. These are average players just like we signed last year and what a load of flops they were and loads of money wasted. We need top class players - but will they come? Who will be attracted by the name Brendan Rodgers?

Then who needs champions league football with such signings

Do you not think the most of the Utd squad last year could only be described as average?

I must admit I would be more than made up with Johnson, Moses, sigurdson and Davies. All young and with bags of potential. I know Moses gets some stick on here but you have to remember he's still only 20? 21 maybe? I've seen enough of him to think he's gonna be a very good player.
Having said that would love ramerize or someone that is already at the level of Suarez. As the above poster said man utd squad was pretty average last year

Stevie G named in the team of euro 2012. The only English player to be in it.

What was the team of the euros ? {Ed049's Note - Euro 2012 Team of the Tournament: Buffon, Casillas, Neuer, Pique, Coentrao, Lahm, Pepe, Ramos Alba, De Rossi, Gerrard, Xavi, Iniesta, Khedira, Busquets, Ozil, Pirlo, Xabi Alonso, Balotelli, Fabregas, Ronaldo, Ibrahimovic, Silva.}

He isnt in the team just the squad, but he is the only English person in that!
John Wigan

WHAT no ROONEY you must be joking ha ha ha

To be honest i think glen johnson was englands player of the tournament not gerrard, gerrard was pretty poor against the italians

Still in shock !
Mrs asked me last night why Italy hardly have the ball, and just look knackered.
She then realised they only had 10 men due to all sub's being used, 1 going off injured.

Then we actually had a conversation about the style Spain play, and how poor England consistently are.To which she commented " well, do something all the time, no matter how good or famous you are there will be a time when you hit your peak and people will notice you"

I was a little confused,as i wasnt sure she was refering to Spanish training ethos, so i asked her what she meant.
She then went on about all proffesionals not just in sport, at a certain time in their career will hit a high spell and move up a ladder, or move onto bigger things. And good employers recognise this at an early stage (she in HR, so this type of convo usually drifts into work talk) so i threw in our new manager and his age and a rough background to her to try and keep the footy theme, to which she replied ( after not knowing Swansea played in PL !) "well, somebody abviously thinks very highly of him, and this job could be his motivation to get him to reach his peak"

So, lots on here go on about failure at his past posts as manager, and him not being a household name etc, etc . But, just maybe BR sees an opportunity to realise his full potential with LFC.

"The man who makes a success of an important venture never wails for the crowd. He strikes out for himself. It takes nerve, it takes a great lot of grit; but the man that succeeds has both. Anyone can fail. The public admires the man who has enough confidence in himself to take a chance. These chances are the main things after all. The man who tries to succeed must expect to be criticized. Success is the accomplishment of that which most people think can't be done"

Oh, and offside and zonal play are to be my next questions off her :0(
Piddy.

I've heard a lot of posts on here about how players in Britain don't take enough risks. But deep down, i think it may really be a part of the footballing DNA in this part of the world, to consider taking a chance, a stupid and reckless thing.

If you want success, you can't be afraid of failure. If you want good fortune, most of the time you have to take the gamble.

Brendan Rodgers way well be that gamble we need to take. One example is Argentina at the 2006WC, ask any Argy fan what went wrong when they bowed out of the cup, they'll say "Messi should've played". Even at his very tender age at the time, had his manager taken the chance of injecting a bit of flair into that team, they may well have gone on to bigger and better things, and this "Messi never delivers for Argentina" debate would be dead and buried before it saw the light of day. But no, Pekerman tried to stay safe, Argentina were swamped by Germany and bowed out in the QF's. I still believe if they took a chance and didn't leave everything up to the old guard, they'd have at least made the final that year.

With Rodgers, i firmly believe the club has taken a step towards realising that risks need to be taken, that the way to win trophies in football, it indeed by playing football. Not starting a season in damage limitations solely to keep happy, the few supporters who obviously lack any sort of imagination. Who then turn on the manager for not delivering enough wins...

People may squirm and suffer, they may abuse referees and television sets, but at the end of the day we need something new injected into this game. The premier league needs it, and got a taste of it with Swansea last year. Why shouldn't it be us that shows the world we're here to play football.

Red7.

Hi eds

I have been watching the LFC tv channel over the past few days, and mainly rodgers (first and only interviews) - in which he states, that he knew of 3 or 4 players he wanted straight away, regardless of assessing the squad, as he had a good idea what he had in the squad already - he then said he would also assess the squad, when they all came back and then see if we needed any more...(also he stated that the players want to play for liverpool)

this was all said a few months ago, so I ask myself why has he not moved in for the 3/4 he had in mind straight away, and i come to the simple conclusion that they have all been at the euros in some form or another - i know this is a long shot question, but do any of you know if we had scouts looking at anyone in particular, from any particular nations?

Cheers

Ray {Ed002's Note - Please read the posts.}

I have read all the other posts, eds, as I sit at my desk at work, or on the train on my phone - one thing I have learned is that you guys dont suffer fools gladly, and so questions at times have to be asked in certain ways, so I was trying to ask on a different angle.

Cheers tho

Today is Sigurddson D-Day. LFC or THFC, personally I think he will choose us.

I'm interested to see which way the other readers think it will go, so hit agree if you think LFC & Disagree if you think THFC?

Please go with your gut feeling and not you would like!

Markolfc
{Ed049's Note - My gut tells me that he'll choose Liverpool.}

Who cares?? We are scrapping for a player who had half a good season, reminds me of a certain charlie adam, we need to be aiming higher and 1 midfielder is not
Gona change anything. RedTurk

Dont think spurs want him to be honest! according to reports they are after alan dzagoev of cska moscow, the players father has admitted that spurs have made enquiries about his son, also they (spurs) will be after moutinho should avb arrive? so i expect sigy to arrive at anfield!

He'll go to Spurs for the money and to keep the bench warm.

I think he goes to Spurs.

Cheerio

Eds.. do you think the comments his dad made hinted that he may join us.. about Brendan Rodgers {Ed049's Note - we'll wait and see}

I hate to think we are degrading ourselves into being part of this BS from a player who is being released by Hoffenheim. We only want players who would make that decision in a split second. Having said that, I'll bi him up if he chooses us obviously!!

Red G

I think he would be a good addition.. but really, if we are to persist with henderson where does he fit into the starting team with gerrard, lucas and henderson all there, mind you would he move to spurs where he wouldnt get in over modric, parker or bale.

i think its a toss of a coin with him, not fussed wither way.

completely reminds me of charlie adam, good post red turk, missed your unbridled enthusiasm.

aussiepool tristan

I agree with RedTurk all this over a player who is ok but nothing special, trouble with are fans is even if we were linked to titus bramble most of are fans would suddenly say hes a great player but really he is crap, lets start getting real hey this sigurdsson lad is nothing special just a good player and thats it. SAV

I think he chose Liverpool quite a while back. I may well be wrong. But i'm not.

Red7.

I can't believe how much i missed hearing from RedTurk.

And here we go again.... One midfielder isn't going to make us title challengers, no, BUT is he better than what we have, yes he is, can he improve in a better (no disrespect) team than Swansea, yes he can, can he be part of 'new' Liverpool side to challenge for honours over the next 10 years, yes he can. He's an intelligent player, with an eye for goal, and an ability to link the play better between the midfield and attack. He knows the league already, he's played under the manager before so will bed in quickly, and all this at a reasonable price. I for one will be disappointed if he goes to spurs.

The captain

On Tuesday, we'll be making the switch from channel 434 to 429 and at 9.30pm that day you can watch the first airing of a show called 'LFC's Top 50 Premier League Players', where we take a look back at a half-century of Reds who have left their mark on the club during 20 years of Premier League football.

For all those slating BR and wanting Rafa back 2 words.........Xabi Alonso. If you want another 2 words Alberto Aquilani....Nuff Said!
Also Window now been open 2 days and Cavani,Sig,Ramos,Alonso, still havent signed what on earth is going on!
Jim22

Succinct and to the point, could not agree more!

U should do a bit more research b4 u speak non sense..Rafa was our best manager ..Period..
anyway we should all support BR 100% now..

Who signed Alonso in the first place - you obviously have selective memory. Also Alonso had a bad season the one before his last and the interest in barry started then. Alonso came good but he had seen his backside by then and showed Rafa he could be as stubborn as him and refused to stay.

Rafa was our best manager was he? Have you never heard of the great Bill Shankly or the legendary Bob Paisley? They are two of the greatest managers in the history of football and made Liverpool FC what it is today.

For the record, Joe Fagan won more in just two years than Rafa did in his whole Liverpool career.

King Kenny's first tenure in charge of Liverpool brought a glut of trophies and Kenny built arguably Liverpool's greatest team with the squad of 1988.

All are better than Rafa in my opinion.

Two words Victor Moses, another two words mark Davies another two words we're h"cked {Ed002's Note -

So if Alosno had stayed and played under Roy, you think he would have made that team last night? Mid table or lower with no Champions league football not a chance he would get into that midfield, for himself the move worked out great.
Look BR is manager now and we need to back him, Rafa brought us some great success so I dont see why some fans hate him so much to be honest, his acadamy changes our best hope now.
There's no Kenny to bring back this time if were looking at relegation towards Xmas (and we have a hard start) so what happens then?

As soon as Alonso left liverpool lacked a player who could unlock teams a creative player who could make that vital final ball.

Red raj

I think you'll find that Bill Shankly and Bob Paisley were better managers than Benitez! Liverpool's footballing history (unlike Chelski) did not start in 2004 / 05...

Why was he our best manager..Period?
Talking of research have you heard of Bill,Bob or Kenny? They were quite sucessfull were they not?
I am fully behind BR which would explain my post (which was to all the people saying Rafa should have been chosen over BR)
Jim22

Under Benitez it was the consistently the worst, most unexciting ( if that's a word ) football played by the reds I've seen in 50 years as a Kopite.

John B

It was becuase of Benitez that Alonso wanted to leave. Basically, he left the club in a pile of mess that no
one could clear

Just thought of another 2 words "Zonal Marking".......Arghhh!
Dont get me wrong I liked Rafa but he is not the saviour that some would have us think.

Jim22

^ Neither was Kenny! In Rafa we trust!

heres a question for you eds , you may thinks its a stupid one but it gets to me , . How come all the players we are after ,spurs try to geg in on the the same player , even charlie adam our offer was knocked back in january but at the very last minute spurs had their offer accepted for him , you may say we are going in for good players and that is the reason why spurs are going in for them ,if that is so why does'nt other teams also go in for these players , i think that spurs are trying to stop us getting players so we dont end up above them {Ed049's Note - There is no conspiracy in it whatsoever, funny how Arsenal fans say the same thing about Liverpool. However, there always will be competition for the players' signature.}

02 Jul 2012 08:37:43
now BR can get to work on bringing some quality european players into our club , we bought british and it never worked , lets just get the best young talents from anywhere in the world , theres 6 and a half weeks more or less till the start of the season , these weeks will define our season with the players we bring in , BR has got his targets lined up , all he has to do now is try and sign them , we will be suprised i think ,,,,,,,,,,,,mickey b

Stop talking out of your a*se. Is Coates,Enrique,Suarez english. It was not the players passport that was the problem. It was the price paid for the players which was the problem. Hendo, Downing, and Carroll were all overpriced.

I think you should change the first letter in your name to a D. {Ed049's Note - haha}

Is that meant to be a joke you d---head

No he was being serious because he knows you don't like jokes like that!

02 Jul 2012 08:28:36
some are talking about pepe reina going and getting some one else in , why dont we just get some one else in to give pepe some competition and then he will get back to his best and if not put the new one in , as long as they are a good goalie , it makes sense to buy a new goalie instead of replacing pepe , we would have 2 very good keepers and they would have to play very well to stay in the team ,because at the moment theres realy no competition for pepe ,,,,,,,,,,,,mickey b

p.s. maybe you will post this one

Reina does not want to be at Anfield as his performances last season showed , so there is no point providing him with competition .

A quality keeper will not join any club to be competition for an obvious first choice and just keep the bench warm - up and coming with potential will.

John B

02 Jul 2012 04:37:01
Don't get me wrong I don't want them to leave but if Pepe and Skrtel are replaced with Lloris and Höwedes, don't you think that's an improvement? A younger goalkeeper who is already world class and a centreback who is -let's face it- better than Skrtel

Suarez thinks Skrtel is a great defender, why can't you? We need consistency and not just in referee decisions. I think a kot of our previous mistakes were caused by changing too much too soon and hoping they will gel straight away! I will be happy with GJ, MS, DA and JE for our back 4 this coming season, with decent back up, which could come from the reserves!

Keith

02 Jul 2012 04:29:32
Have to say would be very dissapointed if Suarez was allowed/encouraged to leave the club. Being our best and most creative player I believe it would be a big step backwards to lose him. We have had this problem again and again with our best players, if we fail to keep the quality core of our first team then we arenot going to be challenging for any trophies in the forseeable future. I understand it is sponsors who are putting the pressure on Liverpool to get rid of Suarez - I think this is unacceptable. Sponsors should not have the right/power to influence player signings, exits, line-ups, anything involved in the practical running of the football club. I honestly fear for our club if we allow Suarez to go, we may (and equally we may not) get Ramirez as his replacement but really we need to keep our best players and build around them, not chop and change. People talk about the negative connotations of continually losing managers - well the same applies to our best players. If we fail to keep a strong, solid nucleus we will not progress.

Additionally, since I am currently in Taiwan, I have heard next to no rumours what so ever. My friend who works for LFC sent me one message about a week ago saying we were trying to sign a couple of youngsters from South America but didn't really elaborate on that (he is somewhat sensitive about revealing too much information). He also told me that presentations aimed at pitching the club to potential stadium sponsors had been made months ago (early january) - but I am unsure if this meant naming rights for a new stadium or perhaps naming rights for a redeveloped Anfield i.e. something akin to Manchester Cities renaming but without the blatent underhand shadiness.

Im sure the sponsors would want us to be successful and selling suarez will not help us will it build a team around him is the right way forward i think im sure the people that matter think so to they are not idiots.Tommy Irish Red.

Man u stuck with Eric Cantona after the 'karate kick', LFC should stick with Suarez after 'the incident'.
If a team can't support its players through the good and the bad.
Think of Cantona's contribution to the Mancs over his career at the club.
A player like Luis Suarez is something to be treasured.

What a disappointing end to the Euros.
One really has to feel for Italy.
It just killed the game as a competition!.

Which game were you watching. Best end it could have been. Superb football and lots of goals. Played by probably best team ever. What's not to like. Better than a stalemate 0.0 settled by penalties?
Spain 2012 verses Brazil 1970? Wonder who would win that one?
ND

The best team won?

Who cares about italy im glad spain won. Put a few quid on them

WHAT !!! - the most skilful all round football team ever seen on this planet win the competition, and you say disappointing - unbelievable.

John B

He obviously means the injury.

In reality, Italy were good, but not great. They rely heavily on Pirlo and when a team actually mark him out of the game (as Spain did), they had nothing else on offer. In comparison to the great Italian sides of the past, they were poor and should've been found out earlier in the competition. The biggest tragedy is that it wasn't Spain v Germany, as that would've been a much closer and more interesting contest. However, the Germans were too complacent and believed they'd easily beat Italy, so they deserved to lose in the semi final for that reason alone!

Game was already gone by the injury. Italy's old tired bones were already gone by that point and think Spain would have still scored another 2 without italy losing a player

There is no real achievement in beating 10men.
Italy were unfortunate.

Would have preferred a proper and competitive (11 vs 11) game, not the damp squib!.

Even of sigurdsson does choose Liverpool, I don't want him to sign ANYMORE. But if he does, I WILL SUPPORT.
AnfieldUSA

Wht not? If you was a player you would want more wages.
You wouldn't do a similar job for less money would you?

KT!

Agree with KT, as unless you are a bona fide LFC supporter, then you'd want to go where you will a) get more money and/or b) get played more! Sad but true.

Keith

The above post is the reason the money in football has got out of control. GREED.

It seems like a very poor squad, no Irish and Scottish players.

Have to Disagree mate, it's a shame the players that are injured and out due to injuries aren't there because that would be really strong.
The work Tosh and Evans did with the very young welsh team has paid off well, and Swansea and even Cardiff benefitted there ( althoughthat works both ways), and if they can overcome the seeding problems then they will do ok.
However who is chasing irish and Scotish players? No names seriously come to mind (youngsters), but football is like that it goes in cycles. There was a time, kk and rush up front, Souness, hansen, Lawrenson, Ratcliff, Southall, etc, etc, we could have put a meryside team of Brits out with no english and probably won the thing.
RNred

Poor squad? I'm quite excited to see how they get on! This is a fantastic opportunity for some of the lads who didn't feature in the Euros to show what they can do and force their way in to the full England squad. Perhaps it is a shame if there are no Scots or Irish lads there, but (with Pearce as coach) I reckon it was always on the agenda to use this 'bonus' tournament as a way of accelerating the development of some of our younger players. Too long have England waited for a player to mature before they break into the full squad, whilst other countries (most notably Germany and Spain) have taken a risk on young talent.

Does anyone not realise that northern Ireland is not in great Britain it's in the uk! And as for Laurenson he played for Ireland so how could he of represented team GB

Who cares! Football should not be an Olympic sport anyway.

Best thing about that squad is that Hendo, Kelly and Carroll all went to the Euros and couldn't be picked.

- Something Red -

Jordan Rhodes plays for Scotland mate, so there are 'Scottish' players included

Mark the Selby Red

Who gives a rats ar*e about the GB team anyway!.

The thing is that's not the squad. CQ

Ok. I understand all this jazz about Jovetic is just based on nonsense, but for posters on this site to say he's out of our league... That is a pretty ridiculous statement to make, if you are indeed fans and not people looking for a bite.
To anybody that has watched this guy, he is a fantastic footballer and may well become better every week with us, but to say he's "out of our league" well... you're an idiot!

does anyone think Yossi Benayoun will ever come back to the club.

02 Jul 2012 01:09:47
Why do the majority of posts say they heard a rumour from a reliable source. Unless rodgers told them its usually BS.

We need to get rid of a few old/bad players
Maxi
Aqua
Cole
To name a few

Would take 20m for skrtel because he can be replaced by a few decent centre halfs. We need compitition for places in striker position. No need to break the bank just a decent player with low wages. Need some wide creativity, i would give sterling a good run to see if he can hack it. Cant be worse than downing!

People stop talking nonsense about sig it's his agent pushing the spurs move if he signs for us great if not who cares its not our midfield in my opinion that needs strengthening

eds,what do you think of marc albrighton as a player?he didnt feature much last yearr as i reckon mcliesh prefered bannan but look at what happened to villa and himself.i just seem to remember him sticking out in my mind the season before.he looked a really good young player,i think he could be an option,shouldnt cost to much either {Ed002's Note - His name gets mentioned more often by the Liverpool fans than the Aston Vila fans.}

For some reason I can't quite put my finger on, I quite like Albrighton as well. Don't think he's necessarily one for us, but I do like the kid and hope he gets more time on the pitch next season.

RDL

Are we that desperate now? RedTurk

What's this 'we' business RedBurk? You're not one of us {Ed049's Note - lol}

Congratulations to xabi alvaro fernando but most of all mr Reina. Well done boys. Red ross

To the whole squad really, also to Italy, they'd have beaten almost anybody else in that match. Spain just blew them off the park, was an amazing performance. We may never see anything like this again in our lifetime.

Red7.

Yeah, Reina really deserves his medals. After all, where would Spain be if they didnt have anyone to carry the bags?

Jamesmack8

Less to reina...he's quality but didn't even play! lol

My dad's friend is involved with the scouting network of the club. He never gives away any information regarding transfers but yesterday he told my dad that the club is looking a bit messy. Apparently the scouts haven't been assigned their games to watch yet, which apparently is unusual, but maybe could be because of the euros? Also, Liverpool won't have a representative at the Olympics. I didn't think we needed, or were expected to have one, but this is also apparently unusual. I don't want to paint a pessimistic portaryal of the club and I'm sure Rodgers is working as hard as he can to shape the club the way he envisages it and I fully back him, just passing on what I heard.

Cheers, Danny's daggers {Ed002's Note - It is not to do with Rodgers. The reason they have not been given games to watch is because of the close season. I am sure someone will be keeping an eye open at the Olympics for players that have already drawn the attention of the scouting network.}

I'd have to say it's pretty difficult to watch matches that aren't being played...
