I watch all of Klopp's interviews and this was the most telling
The smiles and grinning is definitely reducing
The pressure is beginning to tell
He can't seem to understand why we are not scoring
The normal excuse of wrong decision making is wearing thin and become too simplistic
Question is why are the players constantly making the wrong decisions?
People can't always make the right decision in football in that split second
It is so easy to say afterwards - you made the wrong decision pass instead of shoot and vice a versa.

{Ed002's Note - He is a very good coach Leam but not the superhero the fans generally think he is. He has had success in the past (and to be clear that was four or five years ago) and has the capability to improve a struggling Liverpool side but he needs to be adaptable - the kopflose huhn style has been found out again (very quickly) as it is not fundamentally different to the Rodgers style. He was previously accused of intimidating players and if they are making wrong decisions that accusation will return. Maybe he is finding out more about himself and is getting over the gung-ho hugging the players deal.}

03 Feb 2016 00:12:21
I couldn't agree more Ed002
I think he needs to go back to drawing board for this Liverpool
Even his successor at Dortmund has reinvented the team and their style

Honeymoon period and funny interviews are nearing the end for Klopp as reality kicks in.

03 Feb 2016 00:41:30
He isn't a superhero but at least he is real, a proper football guy who loves everything about it. No more snake oil salesman antics and squad politics like the last regime. He may well still be learning but that's fine, from day one he tried to dumb down expectation.

To be perfectly honest there have been many games where we have played well, i don't think its a matter of being found out, if anything the style is the only thing that is working.

But how can you expect him to do anything with the most incompetent squad on the planet. He gives these players chance after chance to prove their value this year, which no doubt he has been encouraged to do because we are skint, and they let him down every single time.

Mignolet, moreno, clyne, what are we meant to do when this lot are conceding goals by the bucketload every week just through sheet incompetence.

Going forward, benteke, milner and lallana are nowhere near good enough and quite frankly are a disgrace at leading by example for the younger players, they don't want to win they just want to get by and watch someone else do the more skillful stuff. Benteke in particular is our only striker and is missing so many sitters every game. I know its hypothetical football fan nonsense (if we just scored more goals than the other team every game we would win the league) but the sheer volume of mistakes at the back, and chances created but not being taken up front is simply unacceptable for professional footballers of any level and is staggering.

It really should be better and i think klopp is suffering from a squad that really is all over the place, despite having everything being given to them on a plate.

{Ed002's Note - (a) The system was found out in Germany and is generally a pretty naive approach to the game. (b) His remit was to come in and work with the players at the club within the extant operational framework. He will be able to adapt the squad going forward as any other manager would. The club are not going to have yet another massive rebuild and a couple more years of transition. (c) You have made a lot of comments about players that reflects adversely on his ability to coach - who would you like to see replace Klopp?}

03 Feb 2016 01:12:38
I'm not sure I'm disagreeing with either your or ed02s opinion but the troubles liverpool has had since finishing second in my mind relate to talent evaluation and less to do with tactics and managers. No matter what the sport, premier league, nhl, nba, baseball rugby etc the number one skill necessary for success is the ability to spot talent and build a team of talented players who can meet the needs necessary to succeed in the sport. Teams around the world who are succesful do it many different ways. Some sports have drafts others free agency others transfer windows and academies. No matter how each sport assembles talent the ones who constantly succeed are always able to identify talent and then sign that talent to long term contracts

I guess my point is that we can say it was Rodgers fault or Klopps or the transfer committees but at the end of the day the talent assembled just isn't that good and the inability to spot enough talent and or keep it when they have found it (Suarez/ Alonso/ Torres) has killed this team. Whether you want to spend small amounts of money and find bargains (Coutinho) or spend large amounts (Benteke) you have to have the ability to be right more than you are wrong in your evaluation of how good the player will be. Liverpool have been woeful in this department. The few times they have been right they have been unable to keep the player long enough for it to really matter

I think John Henry has hired a very good football mind in Klopp. While he won't be perfect all the time no one can complain that we don't have a good experienced manager. Now somehow FSG need to solve two problems. One how do they improve their ability to evaluate talent and second can they keep hold of the players that they need to keep when they are right.

{Ed002's Note - I would not be one of those standing and saying that the players en masse are anything but a good bunch. Don't blame them - there will always be one or two that slip out to be replaced each transfer window - but you are looking at a good leading side in European football. Perhaps not the elite but a good side that few would look forward to facing. FSG are the owners - they do not evaluate talent.}

03 Feb 2016 01:30:26
Didn't mean to imply that FSG are evauating talent but they are the ones who ultimately evaluate the people who do evaluate the talent. I don't really know them sues behinds her scenes as well as the eds but looking at it from the outside the whole transfer process from scouting to determining what the needs of the teams are to the negotiating side seem dysfunctional.

Also ed02 I'm not saying that the side is terrible but it's not a top European side. Just in the EPL I would easily take Spurs Arsenal and City's first team squads over ours. So at best I would say our collected talentbis third in the league

I will cut them some slack though. We won't really know how good the squad is until they have Ings Sturridge or Origi healthy consistently.

{Ed002's Note - FSG are a group of investors who, for the moment, own Liverpool football club. The club has it's own board and operates autonomously on a day-to-day basis and FSG do not appoint scouts etc.. It is more than results that earn recognition in Europe - perhaps that is one failing the owners have.}

03 Feb 2016 01:47:30
My last post and I'll leave you alone for the night. Your last response about results not being the only thing that earns recognition. Implication being th club or the owners is poorly thought of? If so can you elaborate why?

{Ed002's Note - Without going in to specifics they are far from integrated with many of the major European sides that work together over issues with the game as they see it.}

03 Feb 2016 04:49:22
I don't get this what is this honeymoon period, everyone keeps going on about. from day 1 Klopp has known it isn't going to be easy, he has said he didn't have a pre season or good training sessions with the team and they are just preparing for games and haven't really got to train. he has had injury issues and is definitely holding back in terms of team selection. He is mostly still assessing and that frustrates him. the final third decision problems don't help him either. yes its his responsibility and he hasn't had the best season but he never had a honey moon period and he never thought it was going to be a cake ride. he is trying to encourage players and some of our play is also good, its just in patches though. and then game after game after game. once he puts his stamp on the dressing room and trains with them for a two three weeks i think we will all see the difference. for the time being it continues to drag on where Rodgers left us. or may be honey moon period means something else and i totally ranted out for no reason :P.

Hello to all: long time reader first time poster I believe is the saying. Just wanted to gauge other reds views on this subject. Recently been looking into ticket prices and waiting lists etc on the website and have been appalled. The massive waiting list and demand due to our fan base I can understand but the prices are beyond ridiculous. The only reason I have the luxury to join as a member for a chance of getting tickets is because I am a middle class teenager who can spend his part time wages on what he likes. How on earth are everyday working people supposed to raise the funds for some of these tickets? I don't even want to get on the topic of how this is correlates to a quieter atmosphere. Simply put how are the fans who are going to make noise going to get in? This is of course a nationwide problem in football maybe specific to the premier league and the worst part of it is these clubs could let people in for free if they really wanted to. I'd be happy to make the journey down and pay a reasonable price but £26 for an online membership, season tickets at the price of some cars (admittedly the Jose Enrique's of cars) and the clubs have the audacity to talk about price freezes. I don't see this stopping and without doubt it is alienating a group of supporters that simply don't have to be alienated.

Hi edds,
Reading on lfc website yesterday that klopp was going to monitor James Maddison up till the summer.
Looks a great player, lovely touch and vision, just the kind we need to open up defenses.
The article has since been taken down obviously due to the sale to Norwich City.
Why do we mention someone we are interested in and then some other club come in and buy him.
Is this another one that's got away. the transfer committee should be disbanded. I think klopp is the only one with a footballing brain that's on it. if he's on it!
I know he's gone to Norwich, but what are your thoughts. thanks.

Believable6 Unbelievable11

{Ed002's Note - Firstly, the FA will certainly have something to say if Liverpool are putting such things on the club web site - charges could well come if what you are saying is true.

Secondly, I continue to be stunned by the crass stupidity of some of the fans who think that the transfer committee should be "disbanded" (albeit offering the usual excuse for Klipperty) because Liverpool did not buy some kid from Coventry.

Add him to the list of players Liverpool have missed out on. And add Jerome Binnom-Williams at the same time - Leyton Orient snapped him up.}

02 Feb 2016 21:47:28
I assume this would have been on the media watch pages rather than an actual LFC sanctioned story.

02 Feb 2016 18:01:56
Why are we not on bt/ sky against the leaders again . Bonkers
What's best streams please boys?
Cheers.

Believable0 Unbelievable6

{Ed001's Note - it is the main game on Bein Sports, I assumed it would so on Sly as well.}

02 Feb 2016 18:08:29
Not lfc related but are these streams illegal etc?

{Ed002's Note - No.}

02 Feb 2016 18:46:03
By an android box. There pretty nifty.

02 Feb 2016 19:18:45
I don't know if I can post this or not but for iPad and iPhone download live media player off the App Store it's brilliant that what I use.

02 Feb 2016 19:31:54
Mobdro is what i use on androud.

02 Feb 2016 19:43:53
I always use vipbox mate it's always good.

02 Feb 2016 21:57:22
Johndoe, is the app actually called 'live media player' because I typed that in search and it came up with allsorts top if the list being 'live stream'

02 Feb 2016 22:22:39
Get kodi for Android and stream it on your TV.

02 Feb 2016 23:42:00
Yes mate it's the one with the blue play button icon.

02 Feb 2016 17:46:44
looks like this huge amount the premier league will receive from tv will be of no benefit to the cost of tickets. i personally was priced out of going to the match some time ago after supporting and attending anfield from 1950,s to 2000plus{pensioner now}. took my son to his first match when he was three years old and now he is a season ticket holder, doubt an awful lot of dads can afford to take their sons now how sad is that.

Believable4 Unbelievable6

02 Feb 2016 22:28:17
Football prices are beyond ridiculous nowadays it is preventing people from going to games. Obviously you can get around that through the TV and other media outlets but it's not the same as seeing a team in person. Think the clubs should be ashamed with the prices there is absolutely no need for them to be as high as they are.

Eds,
I understand people might have concerns but surely Smith and Flannagan have done enough to start a game. Moreno is poor in so many ways and Clyne also hasn't played very well this season.
Would you play both or either Smith and Flannagan tonight after watching over half a season of Clyne and Moreno?

Believable0 Unbelievable10

{Ed023's Note - My gut feeling is he will play Clyne and Flanagan as both of them are capable of playing right or left back.}

02 Feb 2016 17:22:04
I think clyne and Flanagan are better defenders. Morono and smith are good good going forward but clyne and Flanagan are solid full backs.

02 Feb 2016 17:24:39
I would love to see Smith play I think he suites klopp style of play he had with BVB where most of there players would be on one side of the pitch leaving a huge gap on the opposite end to exploit with a full back and think this would be perfect for smith, with his pace and crossing ability.

I would also like to see a midfield 3 of Lucas Henderson and the Welsh Pirlo.

02 Feb 2016 17:35:35
All teams have players like Clyne. Not particularly great but not poor enough to be an immediate issue that needs adressing. Hopefully with our breath of new life into fullbacks with Smith and Flanno, all 4 will fight it out and improve. For me though Moreno is awful in defense and a solid left back would be a significant improvement to the team.

02 Feb 2016 18:11:10
I'd like to see Clyne and Flanno start tonight. Can't see Smith starting after playing Saturday. Moreno did have a good game against Leicester on Boxing Day, but Mahrez is unlikely to have another off day. Away from home against top of the table opposition, for me it has to be Clyne and Flanno with Smith, Moreno or both on the bench.

I'd go with Can in front of Sakho and Lovren with Allen and Hendo ahead of him. Teixeira and Lallana behind Firmino. Do it! :)

02 Feb 2016 18:14:30
Thing with Moreno is he creates an awful lot of chances, but unfortuately nothing usually comes from him but you can't blame him for that, we need better firepower in front of goal. If only a fraction of the chances he created had been finished off, we would all be a bit more reluctant to drop him. As someone said a while ago, maybe Moreno in front of Smith might be an idea - try to get the best of both worlds.

02 Feb 2016 18:22:31
This was discussed earlier. Moreno's crossing is NOT good.

03 Feb 2016 03:24:07
Nick, If you think Moreno creates more chances for us, you are mistaken. He creates chances for the other teams thru his gifts to other teams via his schoolboy mistakes.

02 Feb 2016 15:25:31
I'll be honest guys it's not Liverpool related at all but we did have a point when we were going to sign him. I'm sat with Kyriakos Papadopoulos at weatherspoons in stansted airport and I asked him if he'd join Liverpool and he said yes. Make of it what you will.

Believable0 Unbelievable7

{Ed002's Note - Why would Liverpool buy a player who has missed something like 80% of games over the past three seasons due to injury?}

02 Feb 2016 16:01:56
Hmmm. I wonder why he would join lol as ed says his injury record make sturridge look like a 40 game a season man.

02 Feb 2016 22:46:24
Ha ha, so why would he be at stansted and having a drink, modern professional then.

02 Feb 2016 14:43:12
Banter please Eds

The 2016/ 2017 pricing structure is now up.

What are everyone's thoughts?

Believable0 Unbelievable2

02 Feb 2016 16:10:17
Seems to me that both sides (the club and SoS) are picking and choosing which data points to highlight. Overall it seems to be a compromise that pleases no one entirely and in my experience those are generally the best ones.

02 Feb 2016 16:13:57
I can't be the only one bothered by this can I?

{Ed002's Note - It has already been discussed at some length.}

02 Feb 2016 16:24:11
Apologies but I thought the previous discussion was pre the release of the actual information.

My bad.

02 Feb 2016 16:27:13
I have just had a quick look and it appears that my main stand season ticket which I have held since 1986 will go up from £819 to a minimum of around £959! I look forward to hearing how the club justify this, given that apparently 65% of tickets have either been frozen or dropped!

02 Feb 2016 16:52:29
jimbo2

obvious really, someone at the club has obviously not factored in the huge rise in income through new TV deal.

Once this oversight has been realised, the Club will obviously sent out an apology and we will see the price of tickets fall instead of rise.

Just an oversight really - as if we'd want to deliberately price fans out of going to games.

02 Feb 2016 17:31:17
This is an emotive topic as it hits us fans direct in the wallet but i'm sorry people are just foolish to think prices will drop or freeze when large numbers of fans demand signings each and evry window. Of course the club will raise ticket prices.

Whether players turn out to be the next messi or bruno cheyrou they still cost the club an arm and a leg which needs recouping one way or another and ticket sales are a revenue stream so it is inevitable this will happen.

A dose of realism is required, if you want liverpool to (try to) compete with the big boys be prepared to pay big boy money for seats.

02 Feb 2016 17:57:26
You must be part of the other 35% so.

02 Feb 2016 18:07:51
AggerDo, are you implying that these prices are mere guides and will go down? The club have already factored in TV deals etc.

The echo journalist reported and is quoted as saying, 'if Liverpool want the best players and the best facilities, then they have to be paid for"! Laughable really as we have neither. Moreover, that new Main Stand needs to be paid for. The TV deal has been taken into account and the rest will result in sustainable ticket prices.

On the whole a joke, my season ticket price will increase dramatically. It's actually a blind cheek, considering that the Main Stand for so many years is an appalling place to sit, with terrible seats and so many obstructed views.

02 Feb 2016 18:08:50
Thank God for the TV money now the likes of WHU, Stoke and Newcastle can compete with us at the same level - MID TABLE

Look at Man Utd from the start of the premership. Doubled their stadium and pushed up ticket prices. Gave them so much financial power in the transfer market before the Glaaziers come along. They could outspend every other team each season by a ratio of 2 to 1. No wonder they dominated.

Things have equalised with the arrival of oil money. Arsenal have emulated Man Utd. They can spend 50 Euros per player without blinking.

But i guess we should stay where be are, not bother without joining the Euro Super League which will definitely alienate fans further when they can't afford to fly to Paris, Rome, Munich Madrid every other week.

Lets stay firmly in the past, forget about stadium naming rights afterall, we didn't do something as crass as introduce advertising into UK football with Candy on our shirts!

02 Feb 2016 18:40:43
Hitachi was our 1st shirt sponsor.

02 Feb 2016 19:15:25
The main stand is awful anyway. Kop tickets are always the cheapest and the best place In the ground, get a ticket there instead.

02 Feb 2016 14:22:33
I have just read Tony Evans ESPN piece on Kloppo. How anyone with a semblance of savvy can take the article seriously is beyond me. It's littered with oxymorons and Evans contradicts himself repedetly and it's evident an 8 year old has done his research, which is probably paying a disservice to 8 year olds. There's no point in me dicecting Evans bile because it will further validate his proposterous claims and accusations. he's obviously got a massive crush on Rogers and letting his loins doing his talking for him. We will see a evolution in style of play next season under Klopp when he gets his own players and I for one can't wait to see Mr Evans and the others eating humble pie. The only reason Kloppo is looking like an average manager is because he has a below average team to work with. he's had Origi, Sturbridge, Henderson, Coutinho, Sakho out injured for obscene amounts of time surely this should be taken into account when doing a hatchet job article on the manager! If Arsenal and Leicester had Ozil, Belerin, Giroud, Vardy, Mahrez, Kante, Drinkwater out for most of the season would they be top 2 in the league? We have had some horrendous luck with injuries we can still salvage the season buy winning silverware. Which will be fabulous taking into account the crappy players we have and the injuries that have occurred. As I say next year will see the heavy metal football that Klopp is renowned for and I for one can't wait to see the likes of Tony Evans and Eds 002 eat some humble pie.

Believable7 Unbelievable9

02 Feb 2016 14:32:14
Arsenal always as I remember from past 10 years or more are dealing with injuries and one reason they never won a Title.
Injuries are part and parcel of the game.
Brendan had sturridge out injured and had only Lambert and Balotell at his disposal ( Similar to Klopp now )

02 Feb 2016 15:24:15
Difference is BR bought these players and klopp is working with a squad he has hadittle to no input in. As for journos still hanging on to BR`s coat-tails, they are becoming embarassin to watch or read. They are so purposefully biased, it`s nauseating. On one hand, they say he`s been average but never mention the deck that was stacked against him when he came over. They want him to fail like BR did so they can say that BR should have never been fired nd had he been given more time, had LS not left, had Studge been fit, bla, bla, bla. It never ends with people who always have excuses for their own failures. I pray Klopp wins the Carling Cup so he can put these guys and BR himself in the dumpster for good but I know they won`t stop in their efforts to continue undermining him through their sly and cowardly digs.

02 Feb 2016 17:19:26
Redohio, you say Klopp has a squad that he had no input in. Surely that is the same as any manager who comes in after the season has started. I remember loads of posts on here saying that we had a good squad, but a lousy manager who couldn't pick the correct formation to utilise the ability the squad had. I hope to god Klopp succeeds because I support who ever is Lfc manager until such time as he is no longer the manager. But Klopp is not above being critisized and if I am honest I was expecting a lot more from him.

02 Feb 2016 17:33:17
Look at what Rodgers and his transfer committee brought to the club and what he released and then you will no why he got sacked and why klopp is not setting the world alight . As they say, you can't polish a turd . I think we have a top manager who we should give 2 or 3 transfer windows to shape HIS team .

02 Feb 2016 17:38:02
Ignore about 99% of anything a journalist says
Do not ignore what Ed002 says
However when Ed002 is simply offering his opinion then it's ok to have a different opinion.

{Ed002's Note - You are very sweet Chris.}

02 Feb 2016 17:50:09
I feel this is to too early to have these discussions. Give him time and I firmly believe things will get better.

This is classic case of grass is greener on the other side. We value what we don't have over what we have.

02 Feb 2016 16:36:18
You have been saying this from say about a month or so or every time we loose Redohio.

This is not Klopp's team and This is BR's team?

What exactly are you trying to convey through this mate?

Klopp was actually bought to utilize the 200 mill worth Players CLUB purchased. Managers and Players are transient employees. They come and go.

Are you trying to say Klopp would heed his own Titanic full of German players mate?

Every manager inherit a different team and try his best to utilize the resources he has at his disposal.

Just asking mate.

03 Feb 2016 03:28:51
Red 64, I never said he wasn't above criticism. I said he had no input in who was bought before he arrived as he arrived after BR was found to be a failure. That is not an opinion. That is verifiable fact. Now has he made a couple of mistakes? Of course, what coach hasn't? But if he has to learn and adapt to the Pl, might as well make them now and learn from them.

02 Feb 2016 14:21:14
Not such a bad thing to have bought no one. No rushing into something. No paying over the odds. We have one of the best managers in the world. He now has time to look at and play the youngsters, to look at those out on loan and to have a proper look at who is available in the summer especially as the managerial musical chairs has started. Pepe going to Man City will open up transfers from Munich and from City and Man U will probably be getting someone new as well. Much will happen in the summer. We might even have Sturridge fit enough to sell to West Ham for at least £20million. Balotelli might score a few and increase in value. Now would have been the wrong time.

Questions on Tex (sorry guys)

Ed002. Can you say or not please if anything we had agreed with him stand in the sumner or will it be a case of starting over again? i'm aware the figure needed was crazy and was the right thing to walk away. He has since said "not today guys but in the summer" meaning he beleives he will join us in the summer?

Believable0 Unbelievable2

{Ed002's Note - There is nothing agreed with Schakhtar - Liverpool did not offer anything that was anywhere close to what might have been worth considering. You might want to move on from this}

02 Feb 2016 13:36:20
Ok ed. Fair enough

The summer is along way off i guess.

02 Feb 2016 13:40:30
I hope we do, think what we could do with £40m. Better GK, maybe a commanding leader at CB. Both?

02 Feb 2016 15:45:45
He was one of maybe 2-3 tops that was available but there will be better value players available in the summer so like the Eds keep saying

Move on.

02 Feb 2016 13:12:04
Ed's, what role would Jurgen Klopp have in the money a transfer would cost for a player he may want. Using Teixeira as an example, would he say something like, I like this player, would like him to come here but don't pay anymore than 30 mil for him because he isn't worth more than that. Or is it more the case he says I like the player and its up to Ayre or whomever to deal with the transfer fees etc? Thanks in advance.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - No, Klopp would not be assigning values to players. He may be part of a discussion on how much the club bid but that is all.}

02 Feb 2016 14:38:53
Shock, horror Ed2, are you saying that it wasn't Rogers fault that Lfc paid too much for the likes of Baloteli, Firminio Allen etc etc, if he had no say in how much to bid.

{Ed002's Note - The money is not, and never has been, the responsibility of the manager.}

02 Feb 2016 15:25:41
He`s already said we will not spend money we don`t have nor for the sake of it. That`s his input right there.

02 Feb 2016 13:01:10
a good game to look forward to tonight!

i would just like to ask if any posters or any of the eds could tell me the story behind the Kop stand. i'm from South Africa and a guy i met in a bar told me it involves South african history?

i would appreciate any information even if the drunk guy in the bar was wrong.

cheers.

{Ed001's Note - they were all known as Kops the banking at the end of the pitch where the fans stood, after the Boer War, at every ground in English football. The Spion Kop was a battle that saw a lot of Scousers die, and so someone decided to name it after that particular hill.}

02 Feb 2016 13:15:47
yip exactly what the guy told me "kop" is also a Afrikaans word.
the guy also mentioned something to do with dead soldiers ashes somewhere in the stadium aswell, know anything about that Ed?

{Ed001's Note - I know a lot of people that have had their ashes scattered in the Kop goal mouth, but don't know any more than that sorry.}

02 Feb 2016 15:45:17
Hi Klipperty

You are correct in saying it has links to Africa. It comes from the Battle of Spy Hill in the 1900's

Spion Kop meaning Spy Hill. The British Empire lost the battle, and the people who did survive it from the local area called one side of Anfield "The Spion Kop" in honour of those who lost there lives in battle.

Nice to see somebody interested in the history.

02 Feb 2016 17:19:27
Thanks kemlyn and ed for the reply.

Yip I found the story behind the famous KOP fascinating.

Eds, would you have any information on the GK Ward, has he been playing under 21s etc and if so any reports on what coaches/ staff are thinking about him?

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - as far as I am aware he has not played competitive football since he came back.}

02 Feb 2016 12:43:36
He played for the u21s the other night.

{Ed001's Note - when was that? Was it a friendly or U21 league match?}

02 Feb 2016 12:46:56
Vs reading u21 2day ago with Ilori starting also ed001.

{Ed001's Note - ah ok that would make sense, I have not looked at anything regarding the U21s since about Thursday. Been a bit too busy!}

02 Feb 2016 12:49:03
U21 league against wolves off the top of my head, the Liverpool website has a video of the game, made a few good saves.

02 Feb 2016 13:07:18
Nope. I posted something about this yesterday
It was U21 league, 2-0 win over Reading at Chester FC's Lookers Vauxhall Stadium.

Ward was very vocal (you could hear him all around the ground) and organized his defense well. His distribution was good, only really had 1 save to make.

Ilori was solid in the air and good on the ball.
Randall was very good imo.
Wilson and Kent were lively. Wilson won a penalty with a nice run into the box, got up and scored it.
Brooks Lennon scored his 1st U21 goal after good play from Randall and O'Hanlon, who also had a good game.
While Matthew Virtue-Thick really caught the eye in the defensive midfield role. Especially in the second half, he broke up play with authority and charged forward. Looked a bit like a young Matic (from last season) . :)

{Ed001's Note - I was kind of busy yesterday sorry, I missed it.}

02 Feb 2016 13:56:54
It was on Sunday, twas a good performance, although Reading were pretty workmanlike.
The U21s have been in good form since Klopp brought the players back to make a proper team. 3/ 3 wins in 2016.
Before that they were in awful form and looked totally disjointed, which isn't surprising when you consider their best players were sent away. And that's the story of how Jose Enrique became a center back.
It's Man City next Sunday, should be a good test.

02 Feb 2016 12:03:08
Do you see Danny Ward getting any games until the end of the season? Being Australian, I was annoyed that Klopp kept Langerak on the bench for the majority of his stay in Dortmund, instead of loaning him out to get experience. But I do understand that goalkeepers need competition.

Do you think Klopp will follow a similar plan and let Ward fight Mignolet instead of being loaned out again in the summer. Thanks.

Congrats on the window closing Eds, and well done, you were all very patient with us dullards.

So, is it certain now that Enrique will finish the season with us and then sign for Instagram United on a free? I doubt he'll want to go on loan and actually play football or what yous think?

Also, have you any theory on why we kept Sinclair? Was there a 3 mil bid turned down and is it because we'll get more by tribunal or why would you imagine?

Thanks a million.

Believable1 Unbelievable3

02 Feb 2016 12:07:18
It's funny but despite your insults I'm pretty sure Enrique played for us the other day and didn't let us down. You might not like him but when he's wearing a Liverpool shirt I'll be willing him to do well. Thankfully the players are not as fickle as the fans.

02 Feb 2016 13:15:59
Yeah I'd love nothing more than Enrique to suddenly become amazing. But come on, he should never play for our first team again now that players are coming back from injury.
He's just soaking up wages at this point. Ilori, Maguire and even Hart should all be ahead of him. It's nothing personal, but when I saw him come off the bench on Saturday I was curious what the thinking was behind it. Of course, I wanted him to whip that free-kick into the box with venom onto somebody's head and win the match. But then he crossed it like his leg's a wet noodle. His fault, not mine. He's been taking up space in our squad long enough.

{Ed001's Note - surely you mean he should never have been bought? He was never good enough, and proves the folly of signing a player based on statistics rather than watching them play. Always was useless and always will be because he doesn't have the intelligance or attitude required to learn.}

02 Feb 2016 13:56:49
Didn't let us down? He ran up to that free kick straight from the bench like Michael Bay was directing it, an epic scene in Jose the Dolphin Whisperer. And then, well, epic fail. Shame there wasn't a take two.

02 Feb 2016 14:05:49
Yeah that's very true Ed. God, summer 2011. When we let Riise go and signed that smiley, wise-cracking guy who wasn't very good. Flanno gave us hope until his injury, but maybe this summer we'll finally fix the LB position after so many years. Perhaps his best contribution to the club was his annual Halloween parties that the Spanish and Portuguese speaking players particularly enjoyed. Well done Jose. Shine on. Somewhere else.

02 Feb 2016 14:11:36
Haha, nice one. Michale Bay probably is an Enrique fan. :)
Maybe ND is referring to Exeter away when he was terrible, or Exeter at home when he had so little to do he could have been sitting in a deck chair sipping a marguerita, and probably wanted to be.

02 Feb 2016 15:34:11
It would help if Enrique could come on and take a free kick instead playing the ball like a lame chicken as he did vs WH. That was hilarious.

02 Feb 2016 10:39:35
Hi Eds and fellow reds. Which team in the premier league, in your opinion, made the most of the transfer window?

Believable1 Unbelievable3

02 Feb 2016 11:02:13
Leicester.

02 Feb 2016 11:07:07
Stoke City, Pulled out Imbula who was brilliant an year ago.

02 Feb 2016 11:09:12
I have to say that Stoke are quietly assembling a very good team.

02 Feb 2016 12:43:53
Newcastle. Three decent players and a much better chance of survival now.

02 Feb 2016 12:57:39
Chelsea made a nice few quid and Pato will be interesting to watch. Looking forward to him and Costa having a training ground bust-up.

Imbula may or may not be terrific, but he's no Charlie Adam.

Niasse is an interesting one, but not sure it's what Everton really needed.

I think Doumbia could surprise a few people, Shelvey is a good signing for Newcastle and Townsend will score 1 spectacular goal before going back to being rubbish.

Bournemouth getting Iturbe on loan is a nice bit of business, Afobe will do well for them, not sure about the rest.

Suarez and Amrabat look like decent signings for Watford. But the Pozzi shenanigans still tastes sour.

Personally, I think Sunderland have done good business, but it often looks like that with them, until it proves otherwise. Might be just enough to stay up though, if Khazri does well, so I'll cautiously pick them. Basically, whoever stays up will have had a good one. Unless of course it's Villa. But it won't be.

Oh and of course Adebayor to Palace could be the best or worst singing of the season.

02 Feb 2016 15:16:11
Spurs did sign Moussa Dembele, the q9 yo forward whos tearing up championship.

02 Feb 2016 15:35:57
We "signed" Origi, Coutinho, Studge (hopefully) Skrtel, Ojo, Branno, Flanno, and Ward. Now that`s what I call great business. Well done, LFC!

02 Feb 2016 10:07:47
Mng Eds and Reds.

How many of you think Stewart and Allen would play today? . I would love both to replace Lucas and Can.

Believable3 Unbelievable10

02 Feb 2016 10:45:09
i'd have brannagan and allen, with lucas holding. i am ready for dropping hendo and can. can because he needs to sit out after last few non-performances in games, hendo because there are 8/ 9 games in feb and i for one feel he is still not back to 100%, also i think we need hendo in EL as a leader so he has to sit out of one or two games plus brannagan for me is the only real threat we have from a free kick/ set piece and we should use it . also i'd like to play front three of firmino benteke texeira. but that's not going to happen. i think it will be firmino lallana and milner. lovren should start and so should smith. may be with flannagan and sakho. for me EPL 4th spot is gone . i'd rather concentrate on EL, because we certainly have a team that can win it also and i do want manchester united vs liverpool final and we winning it :P :) that will be as good a feeling as Instanbul.

02 Feb 2016 10:58:11
I would replace Lucas with Stewart, and bring Brannagan on in the second half if Can is still not doing well. I think Lucas and Can are still better than Stewart and Brannigan, but the number of games and short rest periods are beginning to show on the first two.

02 Feb 2016 11:27:25
Ra

Mate I have never been impressed with another midfielder than Stweart from the academy lately. The kid look class to me. He is way better than Lucad and dare I say it.
He could pass. Tackle, press high and he is eager and willing to receive the ball from the defender.
We never had a decent DM from the academy in the past and how badly we need one.

And most important. The kid doesn't pick up yellow card on poor challenge.

Play two B2B player alongside him and he would boss.

02 Feb 2016 13:49:47
Stewart is way better than Lucas? Really? He's played well when he's had the chances but he is no where near the ability of Leiva yet.

02 Feb 2016 14:10:41
I'd like to see Ojo get last 20 minutes. Think Allen, Stewart and Brannaghan deserve to play some part but I think they all played in the cup because they weren't in mind for tonight and I doubt that has changed. Maybe the WH game and tonight's new 11 will give Klopp his selection in the next game after tonight?

02 Feb 2016 15:38:00
I would like to see Ojo on the flanks as well. Harry, there you go with your over-the -top comments again. Stewart better than Lucas? I suggest you ease off lad. You`re getting ahead of yourself there, Harry.

02 Feb 2016 10:04:36
Rights lads not a rumour but a serious note

The klopp honeymoon period is now officially over

We didn't bring anyone in for at the very least until the summer apart from the panic loan of caulker so .

Time to stop grinning because we have klopp and knuckle down and get behind the players and staff we have and support them to the last breath we have and keep pushing them for the results the club needs between now and the end of the season, league position and potential trophies are what we need and if we are to get there we need to back everyone no matter what the circumstances until the summer when things can be moved around and hopefully improved for the next season.

starting from tonight's game let's all get really behind this legendary club be it at anfield- home-the pub- the train-bus etc and support our lads to the best of our abilty and hopefully the staff will repay us with some sort of success this season, personally a cup win would be a success this season considering all that has happened since August

YNWA.

Believable7 Unbelievable6

02 Feb 2016 10:56:00
i personally don't think caulker is a panic buy. i think it was between buying matip or loaning caulker and since there's not really much in it we went for caulker maybe because he has exp in epl. we have a 3 first team centre backs and we needed cover untill they are back and now lovren is back so its good.
personally i think its time for firmino and benteke to start delivering. i think its about time both of them start doing what they were purchased for i. e scoring bucket loads of goals. also we need to win the capital one cup and try winning the EL. those should be the goals now. i think EPL 4th spot is just out of reach. but this season any*******thing can happen!

02 Feb 2016 10:59:56
Totally agree.
Leave Klopp to it let's get behind the team regardless of who he picks to play. In the summer clear out the deadwood and bring in the players he needs.
YNWA.

02 Feb 2016 11:52:24
Juergen Klopp is doing well with a mixed bunch of players. Some good, some not so good. The balance is not that great.

Alex Texeira would have made the difference in a similar way to Suarez.

As others have said. Get behind the team and the manager.
Just don't expect too much.
This season is a strange one.

02 Feb 2016 12:40:08
Yuri, promise me you won't spend the next few years pining for Teixeira. He's a good player but he's at least a couple of levels below Suarez.

02 Feb 2016 14:57:57
Notice I said make a difference like Suarez.

I did not mean he is as good as Suarez.

02 Feb 2016 15:39:13
Caulker was a panic buy BUT I understand why he did it. Doesn`t make it any less a panic buy.

02 Feb 2016 15:51:55
The mind boggles sometimes when I come on here how can real supporters disagree with my post which was ment to be enthusiastic

Just goes to show that the fans of Liverpool of old are totally different to today's younger generation

Morning Eds. Sounds like Luis Alberto had another good game yesterday do you see any chance of him still being a Liverpool player next year?

Believable0 Unbelievable7

{Ed001's Note - it seems unlikely as he wants to leave and he should fetch a decent return as he has been playing well.}

02 Feb 2016 07:50:31
An LFC player fetch a decent return? Pull the other one Ed001!

02 Feb 2016 10:13:36
Ed

What would you imagine we could look at getting back for alberto realistically?

What did we pay 7 mil was it?

Cheers.

{Ed001's Note - I have no idea, nor do I really care to be honest. I care about what they do on the pitch, not what they are worth to us off it.}

02 Feb 2016 11:02:30
i'd try to keep him. maybe coutinho would want to go next season. some of luis alberto's play is simply beautiful at deportivo. he had a few m. o. m performances early in the season when they were flying and then got injured and now has come back from injury and continued his form.
he does have a history in wrong with LFC but he is really a decent player and should be considered. dare i say it if he continues his form in la liga in 2 years he will be at Barcelona.

02 Feb 2016 11:12:11
£50m for Torres and Sterling plus £60m for Suarez. decent returns I'd say hjikle.

{Ed002's Note - The amount of money that Liverpool will eventually make out of Sterling is considerably less than £50M. Think of it as a straight swap for Firmino.}

02 Feb 2016 12:36:51
Sterling for firmino sounds like good business to me! 😉.

02 Feb 2016 12:46:58
Well FORNAX, two or three good hauls (and all on players we'd rather keep at the time of transfer) clearly means we're great at getting returns on players!

02 Feb 2016 03:18:31
Ed02, I think youve said previously this season that we are borderline with the FFP and need to sell before we buy, is this still the case? Can you explain it also? TIA, and for all your other work on here much appreciated.

Believable1 Unbelievable3

{Ed002's Note - The club needs to balance the books - all that can now happen this season is recouping money form loans to buy such as Balotelli.}

02 Feb 2016 08:11:45
So you mean, it's only agreements that are already in place that will count? Like if Deportivo buy Alberto or Fener buy Markovic? How about, for example, if BJ Guoan decide they want Balotelli but Milan don't want him? Would it be impossible to get the money before July and thus it wouldn't count for this year?

{Ed002's Note - Correct, only the agreements that are already in place will count toward this season. Only Milan can buy Balotelli this season and no one else.}

02 Feb 2016 11:10:36
eds would milan ever activate the loan to buy . i think they'd just reject the buy option. can they do that?

{Ed002's Note - It will depend on how he does during the rest of the season and, critically, they can always buy him for the pre-agreed fee and the sell him on at a profit. That is certainly something they would be looking at if he is performing well but not of interest to them.}

02 Feb 2016 15:57:20
Oh cool, I didn't think of that. Gives me hope that they'll do just that, because I don't think they'll want to keep him, but now we can happily cheer for him to stay fit and be a great success there.

Alberto is doing us proud, so we should get a few quid from Depor.
Do I recall correctly that Markovic's loan isn't a loan-to-buy Ed? Would that money count for this season if Fener wanted to buy him?

{Ed002's Note - It depends what provisions there are in the contract as it entails permanently transferring the registration outside of the transfer window.}

Hi Eds,

If you wouldn't mind, could you explain why the infamous Liverpool boot room isn't about anymore and why it was so special?

Believable0 Unbelievable2

{Ed001's Note - Souness had it removed as he thought it was time to change to move into the future, which it probably was to be fair to him as the reason that it was special was simply the people in it. Those people were no longer there, so there was no need for it. The main thing that made it special were the coaching staff, Bill Shankly, Bob Paisley, Ronnie Moran etc, that were in there. They would invite opposing coaches in for a drink after the game, then spend the time getting information out of them. It was more because, as a room, it was not special, it made people more open because the group of them just seemed like blokes talking after a pub match. Most clubs, even then, had big posh offices, which immediately puts you on guard when you go in.}

02 Feb 2016 19:13:49
Thanks for the reply Ed001. Do you think we could have something like that again?

{Ed001's Note - no mate, I think that it has had its time. We need to move on.}

02 Feb 2016 05:40:13
Funny comment about Klopp on ESPN article: "he should do more winning and less grinning". It is true. He has had a fairly lengthy honeymoon.

Believable2 Unbelievable18

02 Feb 2016 05:49:03
whats that supposed to mean? Should a person change himself as the media portrait changes. cmon.

02 Feb 2016 06:51:49
So coop, with one fit senior striker and 1 fit true centre back over much of his period + 2games a week and we remain in contention for 3 cups and a ucl place, terrible start. While he hasn't set the world alight, you need to understand the whole picture, honeymoon or otherwise.

02 Feb 2016 07:55:41
That article was an embarrassing effort by Tony Evans to be a contrarian - most people like Klopp and have enjoyed what he's done on and off the pitch so far with limited options, so he writes a bashing piece just so his message isn't the same as everyone elses. Modern day journalism for you - he even turned his 'tribute' to Terry into a piece to bait LFC fans into discussing him! Pay no mind. In fact in his twitter bio he calls himself a radical - personally I'd steer clear of paying attention to anyone with that much disconnect from reality to think that a sport journalist could ever be a radical in any sense.

02 Feb 2016 08:04:48
It makes you think and wonder. While I am sure Klopp will bring the fire back to LFC, at least as a cohesive club going in the same direction, I wonder which is more effective? A quiet, organized, diligent, reclusive and efficient Pochettino or Pellegrini? Or an outgoing, expressive, organized and efficient Klopp? Just a question of styles and personalities, I guess. But there should be no doubt about Klopp's abilities. The man is running two distinct teams across 4 competitions, currently. Not an easy task by any means.

02 Feb 2016 08:38:01
The club needed a charismatic leader IMO, someone to bring the passion back amongst the fans and he's done well there so far.

As for results, it's been a bit disappointing at times, like v Watford, but we've also won some great matches, added some steel and desire back into the squad and still in the running across multiple fronts. Would we have scored so many late winners before Klopp arrived? I suspect not, we settled for failure way too easily before.

Most importantly for me we're playing much more attractive football, we have a better idea of our style, we know our first team (whether we agree on it or not), and we're creating lots of chances which is way ahead of where we were with Rodgers. We just need to be more clinical.

To sum up my rather long winded response. I feel were on the right track at last and know where we're headed. A couple of notable signings (or a couple of players returning and stepping up eg sturridge) and we'll be a threat to the top 4 next season which is where our bar should be.

02 Feb 2016 10:14:30
When we signed Klopp we all knew at the time that it was going to take several years and a few transfer windows before we would truly see what his team and our club would look like. One of his first comments was that he thinks we will one trophy in the next 3-4 years and both the Liverpool supporting public and the media embraced this. Now he has both the media and a section of supporters ripping into him because he has been here 4 months and we havnt won the league yet.

We can all see what needs to happen at the club but it isn't as simple as getting a bunch of superstars to gel and start winning cups, we are a very long way from where we want to be and its going to take years to fix the problems and rebuild not only the first team but the club itself. We have made many mistakes in in all departments of our great club and it seems now everyone from the owners to the laundry dept are trying to get us back on track. This is going to take years to get right.

Knowing that the club are trying to move in the right direction and correct the mistakes of the past and change how things are done fills me with more than hope, I've got confidence and belief that it's now starting to move in the right direction. We will see small improvements along the way, we already have. I was aware of the time scale and size of the job when Klopp arrived and I'm still aware of it now. These persons can't expect overnight changes and success, but alas it won't be the way. I'm willing to give it 5 years to see our club return to the top, not only in England but in Europe, it's just a shame there's many who aren't and could make that time miserable and worst case scenario, somehow convince the powers that be to change it all over again.

Have faith people, In this moment, I Believe.
