Great win tonight, enjoyed every part of that. Coming from behind makes it even sweeter. Just curious if anyone else watch Lallana's interview after the match? I know he's just played a full game of football, but still after a win like that he seemed pretty deflated. I can't help but feel for him, with so many players getting goals/assists and generally improving massively under Klopp he is yet to see any return for his hard work. I like him as a player and I think a run of a couple of goals/assists will really change him into a different player. I feel like the reason he holds on to the ball so long even now is because he is so desperate to score. I'd be interested to know everyone else thoughts?

02 Dec 2015 23:29:40
I think if he was disappointed it was probably with the reception he got from Saints fans. He had a good game tonight and looks like he's enjoying his football to me.

Agree8 Disagree2

02 Dec 2015 23:39:08
Well, my opinion of him has changed, as with Coutinho and Firmino up front, they are all deadly. That would be my attacking line if Sturridge is injured, with Benteke bought on to change the game if need be. But yeah, he holds on to it, but with other skilly players around him, he excels.

Agree3 Disagree1

02 Dec 2015 23:51:20
I think he was more down about how pathetic and disrespectful the Saints fans were. He gave them a large portion of his prime years and turned down big moves a lot of times when they were just Lower league cannon fodder. He left gracefully and got the club a very large amount of cash. How do they repay him for leading them back to the top of the game? By booing him for 90 minutes.

I'd be deflated too.

Agree7 Disagree0

02 Dec 2015 23:54:22
Personally I just feel like he's not good enough. He presses very good but his distribution is fairly poor. U mentioned he holds the ball too long and his corner that was 40 ft too high sums up his contribution imo.

Agree4 Disagree11

03 Dec 2015 00:14:40
Maybe because it was because he was getting a by of stick from a club he played for for many years and loved? Or that we just smashed them and felt a little sorry.

Agree4 Disagree0

03 Dec 2015 00:41:12
Don't get me wrong guys, I'm in no means suggesting he's been playing badly or is a bad player! I was watching the game in library as I'm finishing off essays so I didn't have any sound so I didn't hear the saints fans in which case that would make sense. I could just tell he seemed disappointed with something in the interview and it must've been that rather than anything else.

Agree2 Disagree1

03 Dec 2015 02:41:49
Sad to see Southhampton booing for 75mins the kid has loads of respect for the club, i think he is working hard with no reward and will show his worth in coming games. Great game for the liverpool family tonight.

03 Dec 2015 07:13:35
How do you hear the interview and not the booing? Not a criticism just curios!

03 Dec 2015 11:25:27
He can lip read?

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Dec 2015 13:56:17
I think Lallana has been one of the most consistent players in our run. He doesn't have to get on the score sheet to effect the game. He controls the ball in tight areas and gets other people involved, he's pressing with intensity in line with what the manager asks of him and he's put in a few clever passes. He could have scored one or two in that spell, but by and large, it hasn't been necessary.

As for his reception from Southampton fans on Sunday, fans are fickle. But if he didn't see a better chance to win trophies at Liverpool, he wouldn't have left to start with, so, ultimately, he shouldn't feel bad when he gets a win against them.

Before i lay my head tonight, i will give thanks for lfc insight, for hiring the man called klopp who was destined to win the title at the kop. And as my eyes softly close, i await the derision for my inspired prose. 😊.

I recall 30 years ago, looking at the next fixture and thinking. yup 2 points here, no worries.

I am starting to think like this again. JK and the squad, well done to you all and thank you.

I know what you mean. Back in the day it didn't really matter who the opposition was we always knew we were going to give them a game and that it was always likely that we were going to win. bit of a novelty in recent times but I watched the match and thought - Newcastle at the weekend - three points.

02 Dec 2015 23:01:39
Eds, do the details in Gerrards book about contacting players directly cause an actual problem/sanction issue for the club? It's embarrassing and was completely stupid and selfish of SG to do it but could it lead further?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - The club has refused to answer questions on it. With Gerrard no longer being registered nothing will likely happen.}

I thought we were "outstanding" tonight and showed "great character" . you see Brendan when you beat someone 6-1 away after going a goal down after 41 seconds this is the correct context to use these phrases in 😎

Thank God we got Jurgen Klopp.

02 Dec 2015 22:54:00
Just watched the goals again. The way Sturridge ran in behind for his two goals was different than our other strikers. He's not waiting on the last man for the perfect ball. He starts running when the ball player picks up the ball, giving them time to make the pass and if they play it right (and boy did can and Allen get it right) he is at full pace and they won't catch him then! And can he finish! What power he got on the first, no wonder he gets so many with injuries, like a canon!

It didn't help as well, that Caulker is aweful at the back.

Agree1 Disagree0

03 Dec 2015 02:29:33
Sturridge has great running. But so does Firmino.

Tonight was great, but I still think our incredible attack on City was our best since 2013/14 and against a far superior team.

A lot of that was Firmino's creative runs, at angles, in behind, directly through, whatever, with great link up with Coutinho and Lallana.

I still think Sturridge with Firmino and Coutinho in behind, will be our best attack.

Allen was solid today again, IMO.

Agree4 Disagree0

03 Dec 2015 11:13:05
Allen is probably one of the most improved players since JK took over. I think with Allen and Miller plus Lucas, we won't miss Can too much. Now he'll get some rest and get energized for the rest of December. Let's not forget Hendo is inching closer to starting a game, and witches Sunderland roots, I won't be surprised he's knocking on JK's door a few more times before Sunday asking to start!
Seems like the season has been turned on its head. Keep going Reds!

Honest to God I hope Joe Allen performs like that more consistently and turns his career around! Who knows if it'd be at Liverpool or not, but would love him to recall time he spent with us having good rapport with the fans. The lad is always polite, humble and seems like a gentleman in his interviews, even when benched. I sincerely hope he is a good learner and follows the steps of Lucas and Henderson! Not exactly a clear man of the match performance. There were so many impressive players all over! Absolutely thrilled so many people here are giving him credit too! Cheers guys!

02 Dec 2015 23:05:01
If I was to be overcritical Allen still gave the ball away too much - whether that is tactics or him - i still wasn't overly impressed - good ball to Sturridge but the worst of three CM's we started today!

02 Dec 2015 22:35:29
Bought by Rodgers and Excelled under Klopp.
Allen has moved out from his comfort zone of keeping the ball and passing it around to more of an offensive midfielder. Pressing high and passing forward.
Not easy to adapt to a new role, but then he knows the completion and has responded magnificently,

I am proud because he he is playing good, More he has the backing of Klopp.

Klopp has seen Allen enough to keep him.

Agree3 Disagree1

03 Dec 2015 11:21:03
You have to put this Joe Allen in context. He was loved and raved about by Brendan, and then things didn't turn out quite well. Many fans felt he got to play more than he deserved simply because he was Brendan's favorite. That doesn't help your confidence. Then the wait of expectation because of how much we paid for him and how much was expected of him.
I feel the appointment of a new man, a different man from Rodgers may help unshackle him, and that seems to have been the case in the last few weeks. And if he ever needed any inspiration for how to win the fans around, he should just look around two other fellow midfield players, and he'd see one of them is currently wearing a captain's armband, and the other is currently the Elder statesman of the team!

Agree1 Disagree0

02 Dec 2015 22:29:05
I know everyone is pleased but it's not quite sank in. Southampton are no mugs, rarely get turned over, my mate said he hasn't seen them lose like that since the season they came up. Our team was 3/4 strength albeit Sturridge makes a huge difference, hopefully proving we shouldn't sell him.
Saints put out a near full strength team and went one nil up.

Wow . Can I just say well done to everyone there tonight . Origi hattrick ( hopefully ) Allen made the first ( with a quality ball ) and cut out the pass that lead to the 2nd . Both played really well tonight . Both have been slaughtered on here and both stepped up . Not saying their into the prem first 11 but they both proved a point tonight that with hard work and good coaching that we can trust the players we have . Fonte was the only player ( I think ) that Southampton had missing tonight and we ripped them a new one . Let's start getting behind these players instead of ripping shreds off them before they have played . YNWA

This is what really annoys me about Allen, he is capable of some really good performances, but he doesn't do it enough! Tonight was a massive improvement from him compared to his recent performances, but it still wasn't as good as some games we have seen from him. Anyway, after that I think he should deserve a shot to start against Newcastle. On Origi, he hasn't faced nearly as much criticism here as Allen. yet. Most of what has been said about him was all fair criticism in my opinion, tonight he was good and obviously you cannot look past 2 quality goals, but i do not think he will get the nod against Newcastle. Right now I just don't see a future for him at Liverpool simply because we could sell him for a few million to allow us to improve areas we are weak in. Obviously I hope he proves me wrong and becomes a quality player for us in future years. Anyway this post seems a little negative tonight was brilliant and our next fixtures appear to be kind so it's time for a good run we might just be top at christmas!

Klopp life lesson:

Work hard and Belief and success will come.

The message is really sinking in, this is the same team that had so many under performing players. Not only is he winning games but he's probably increased the value of the squad by 25%.

With the addition of a couple players of Klopps choosing, we could genuinely move to the next level. Attracting those players with performances like this.

Well done tonight to all 1-6 is incredible as I listen on the Internet. Well done.

To be honest, If Klopp manages to get this team to the top 4 that he inherited, suddenly Liverpool become one of the most attractive propositions around. What are we seeing from Joe Allen tonight, usually when he plays well it's because he presses well, neat and tidy, calms the game etc. etc. I don't think Allen has ever put in a performance like he has so far tonight, a few crunching tackles, incisive passing.

Not knocking Benteke, but Sturridge is on another level.
Everything he does is with added quality, integral member of the squad.

And some will still want hjm gone. I'm not included in that as we couldn't replace him.

But how many games until he is injured again? 2,3,4,5,6,7? Will he make it until the end of the season - we already know the answer - but will he say get to the end of January without an injury?

That's why people want him gone and it has absolutely nothing to do with his quality bit if we don't sell now and at least try and make some doh off him then we might never get anything and we need someone who is more reliable.

So. instead of coming on just to try and show off, why don't you start trying to understand other peoples points properly.

As i have said before, Van Persie had as many injuries at Arsenal early on in his career and he overcame them. Sturridge is worth the wait imo.

Paulo I'm sure many understand their view points however I can't understand one negative which is based on chance can overway the real benefits of having him on our team. I feel like something can happen when he plays similar to when suarez played.

02 Dec 2015 20:47:45
I know your point Paulo but he doesn't have to play every game. we have enough cover with benteke, Firmino, Origi and even Sinclair but we really need to keep hold of Sturridge because what you saw today is what this guy can do every time.

Paulo, is not that we don't understand your point, we think you're wrong. The chance of a fit sturridge is more valuable than the financial gains in selling him.

Get in Danny lad!

I don't think anybody said he isn't a good footballer- and to be clear - he is. Two goals don't make a career though. Let's see if he stays fit enough to get us 20 goals in the PL this season. For the record I hope he does but I doubt he will.

Agree2 Disagree0

02 Dec 2015 20:54:43
To be fair i don't recall anyone saying to get rid because of ability. The last 'injury' felt like enough is enough. If he can stay fit it's a no brainer but with his record you'd be forgiven for thinking the worst.

Fingers crossed he stays fit because he is quality. Means nothing for 3/4 of a season in the physio room though.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Dec 2015 21:10:03
Nor did I say you did. But just look at what he gives us. He changed the game and we'll likely progress to the next round. So yeah, he's just come through the worst injury spell of his career and it was frustrating, but mainly because of the damage he can do.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Dec 2015 21:23:59
Hmm. It's one match at the end of the day. He was immense, which he usually is.

If at the end of the season, or even next, and he's played in 3/4 of the games then i will eat humble pie.

I stand by what i said, if he barely plays he's not worth keeping.

Here's hoping to plenty more of todays showing though :)

be interesting to see if Klopp starts Benteke tonight as he said that he is not sure if benteke can play 2 games in three days after the bordeaux game talking about the swansea game, so that leaves Sturrdige who is no were near match fitness but does give you that quality up front. i would like to see them playing together but i don't see that happening.

Will be interesting to see what Klopp does when sturridge is back fit and raring to go if he changes the formation or benches one of them.

Just been watching highlights of Liverpool Tottenham again from 13/14.reminded me how lucky we were to have Suarez, Sturridge, Sterling and Coutinho in attack together, edge of your seat stuff.

The closest I've seen coming even close to that in recent year and a half was the recent man city game with its pace and movement, I felt that thrill again that anything might happen. I can't wait to see Sturridge, Firmino, Coutinho, Llalana together and all settled, fit and on form. Think we might just start to see us tearing sides apart again.

I would however like to see a 4th attacker with a bit of pace. I really like Milner and Llalana but I do miss that burst of pace from midfield Sterling gave us. Hopefully Ibe can be that once matures a bit more, or Ojo or Kent in time.

Feels good to feel excitement at what hopefully might be just around the corner.

Pretty sure sturridge was unavailable for that spurs game. But 13-14 was indeed edge of the seat stuff. Couldn't wait for the next game to start then, and after a good 18 months or so, that feeling is back.

Zimbo: you forgot about Ings?

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Dec 2015 14:36:15
Another first rate post, Zimbo.

I totally agree. I think the best attack we've seen in years-- since 2013/14-- was the Man City game.

What I find annoying, however, is that since that brilliant game, all I've seen from commentators and former players, is a steady drum call "for more crosses for Benteke".

There was an article the other day with Aldridge calling for that.

And now Phil Thompson has made similar comments: Liverpool need more crosses to "utilise" Benteke's presence best.

The assumption, I think, here is that when teams "park the bus" at Anfield, our only hope is throwing in crosses.

I actually think the kind of pressing and fluid/creative attacking we saw in the City game has a much better chance at breaking down teams conceding possession, than focusing on a target man.

As you said in your post, zimbo, our most successful year was not a year that we used such an offense. It was fast and creative attack led by Suarez/Sturridge.

If I wanted to watch a boring and ineffective attack, where a team huffs in crosses all day, I'd watch van Gaal's United.

Agree1 Disagree2

02 Dec 2015 18:27:21
I always think when people say more crosses it's so subjective though. For example if we kept trying to swing them in like bentekes goal against Southampton it would be poor to watch and maybe work once a game. Why can't we just work it around, and of we get to the byline dunk it back for benteke to nod in. Prevents out players from having to cross properly which seems like we struggle with at times.

Benteke for Costa, what are u smoking? . Costa had a good first half to last season and since then has scored 5/6 goals in his last 20odd premier league games. Jesus Christ, benteke has played well when called upon this year and has fitted in well. Give him a chance.

Believable8 Unbelievable0

02 Dec 2015 14:20:03
Wouldn't want him. not sure Benteke works at his optimum as a sole striker for us given we lack pure wingers, but he still works hard, is very dangerous and scores some fabulous (and vital) goals. I really think he'll end up coming into his own for us when Sturridge is back assuming Klopp can figure out how best to play them both together. his size and finishing with Sturridges pace and movement could end up being devastating.

That was a good read Ed, I have ongoing war of words with my UTD mates. He is a poor defender who gets unnoticed of his poor positioning. His height saves his life as he heads majority of tha balls.

I would like to add a point to your article. Smalling was a disaster against Arsenal and people put that as a bad day in the office. In reality, It was the ommision of Schinderline or a true holding player.

Pretty much agree with you Costa and I have said this an year ago, Costa would slowly but steadily make Suarez look like a Saint. Chelsea would sell him the summer IMO.

I don't think Spurs would be inside top 4.
