Ed, how is Suarez getting along with the team? i mean how different is he from torres in the dressing room?

Vanajam
{Ed002's Note - Suarez is slightly shorter than Torres in the dressing room.}

Nice one ed but seriously, attitude wise? {Ed001's Note - fine mate.}

Epic banter Ed002

Have you not seen the youth matches on LFCTV with him sitting in his car watching-on, cheering etc?

Yeah, i can see that Torres and Suarez look like twins!

02 Dec 2011 23:37:13
Eds it may sound wierd but is there a possibility that we dont even sign a single player in jan ?? {Ed002's Note - I think that most unlikely but possible.}

Liverpool team to play Fulham

Reina

Johnson Skrtel Agger Enrique

Bellamy Henderson Adam Downing

Kuyt Suarez

Subs: Doni, Kelly, Carragher, Spearing, Maxi, Shelvey, Carroll

That team should only be allowed to play on Halloween. They are scary ugly!

02 Dec 2011 23:02:57
Can anyone give me some info on our trialist, Juan Agudelo? Also, eds do you have an update on our interest in Kagawa? {Ed001's Note - no updates right now.}

Would love to see Shelvey playing right behind suarez

Vanajam

Maybe we can start with maxi and replace him with fresh Shelvey at around 70min mark

Vanajam

I would love to see shelvey get some minutes in an attacking role where he gets some freedom. i would also like to see carroll start in the league.vwould that be the 1st time in the the league since Everton? there he scored and played well.
NZL_Red

Didnt he start against swansea im sure he did id like to see him start i think he had a good game against chelsea
giblet

VANAJAM
unless jonjo has found an extra yard or so of pace at blackpool (impossible)i cant see it happening mate, its a puzzle trying to get bellamy and maxi in the team as it is, just because he scored a few at blackpool it does not mean he has turned into messi, bob paisleys skids

He means

---------jose
glen, martin, daniel, jose
--jordan/jay, charlie
dirk/craig, jonjo, maxi
---------luis

He's got a shot like adam, good passing and movement and the same pace as adam and adam is doing just fine.

Thats exactly what i mean mate.

I consider Zidane to be the greatest footballer ever. A player whose absolute skill, close control, team ethic and vision makes him superior even to Messi. With this in mind, I wish Kenny would send a E50 million cheque to Ajax for Eriksen - the closest thing to a new Zidane that I've seen and the star of the next decade.

Hugh Pugh.

He was class, still dont know how he scored that winner in champs league final

Even his headbutts were world class ha

MIKEY

50 million is a bad number. :P
Make it 49.9

PITSILFC

Yeah that's some pricing tactic used by Businesses!

Yay! Capitalism!

Zidane was a class act but if you think he's greatest ever your deluded nowhere close to maradona messi pele garrincha best then there's a group at a level lower cruyff platini ronaldo Brazil one ronaldinho Michael laudrup bobby charlton baggio van basten matteus, Zidane belongs in that second group when it comes to worlds greatest

Totally agree zidane is class

My team v Fulham

Reina

Kelly Skrtel Carragher Enrique

Johnson Henderson Adam Downing

Suarez Bellamy

Subs: Doni, Carragher, Kuyt, Carroll, Spearing, Maxi, Coates

Is Dan Agger Injured? If not, why leave our best defender out of the squad?

Agree carra bench

Ahoy - a topical dilema and a true story from the last 3 days .

This week in the ONION household the bolier packed in, no central heating or hot water, and the little ONIONS (or Shallot's as we like to call them) faced a very cold few days and chilly sleepless nights.

We had two options, pay an astonishing amount of money £4200 + VAT was the quote, for a shiny new boiler plus add ons and a disruption to usual service that would take 4 weeks to fit involving ripping up the kitchen floor and moving other appliances.

Or use what we have got, give it a little service and a polish by a qualified engineer, get it accustomed to being used regularly and giving a performance that is satisfactory and keeps everbody happy.

Therefore I liken the ONION family heating dilema to our current LFC situation. We could spend lots of pounds, disrupt everything and take a whole lot of time to find and bed in a midfielder that will be adequate and do a job but no guarantee of length of service.

Or we can polish and believe in the one we have which will cause less disruption and and cost less and keep on going in a cost effective and fully functioning manner with disruption to current appliances.

SPEARING is the way forward - we do not need to buy anyone for the midfield.

Over and Out from a very warm ONION household

BOILED ONIONS

The best post eva!

And if something happens to sprearing then we have coady and flanno who colud do a job for us, or even use hendo there cos he can pick a pass and ain't a afraid to get stuck in. what ever happens i will be supporting them all regardless.

( 1)ed are we looking at any class youngsters
(2) WHAT DO YOU THINK OF JOHNJO SHELVEY IS HE GOOD ENOUGH TO REPLACE LUCAS
(3)who can you see liverpool signing in january

r.c cmon de pool {Ed001's Note - 1. yes. 2. totally different kinds of players, but he is good enough to be a future first team regular. 3. I expect a striker/winger to arrive in January.}

Hey ed if we buy a striker like Dejong in jan. Would you expect us to try for a proper right winger at least in the summer. I know we cant predict the names as it depends on CL qualification, but we should go for one regardless. I honestly feel we need specialist for every position. These two are the only positions that need some looking. I dont think we need to buy CB at all as we have many good youngsters and we should atleast give them a chance before thinking on this otherwise. And regarding Lucas replacement, I agree with you that we should give others some work out on the field like hendo, jonjo and spearo before we decide to buy or not.
Pls reply,
Abhi {Ed002's Note - The summer is too far away and results are not known so we cannot predict what will happen then.}

Hi eds just being reading that KK is goin to give other players a chance to replace Lucas. I agree with this as i think we have a great squad.

Could you just expand on Lucas injury is it an injury that could repeat itself or is it a straight forward injury once it a been repaired and you have worked your way back to full fitness. Also if stevie g is not even doing light training it takes a good three or so weeks just to get fitness nevermind match fitness. So are we looking at mid jan at the earliest?

Thanks
mighty reds {Ed001's Note - it is far too early to say anything regarding Lucas, it will only be when they operate that the full extent of it will be known. As for Stevie, it will depend on how well he has been able to keep up his overall fitness levels during it. With it being a virus, it can massively weaken the system and destroy overall fitness. He has always had a decent natural fitness though, he should recuperate quickly and regain fitness easily once back in full training. But you are probably right in that it will take a couple of weeks before he will be ready to play, though I would expect it to be even longer, purely to be on the safe side, before he plays for the first team again.}

I have done the same thing as lucas myself recently. The injury can be recessive and happen regularly, but that is only if you have problems with your anatomy (such as bone around the knee and how stretchy your ligaments and tendons are etc).

The liverpool staff will have done medical doing tests on whether injuries like this would be common, im guesing it isnt for Lucas as otherwise there probably would be some information on it from the club and it would have happened before.

Due to this looks like Lucas should come back from his injury and it shouldnt be happening again.

Manno

the team not complete yet. one player injury and we are worry so much about back up ? if suarez injury then we may say hhope for top 10 finish.

From Lucas' message to the fans earlier today:

"I have never had any doubts about Liverpool Football Club or the fans, but this kind of thing just shows how special the Liverpool fans are. I am sure all throughout my recovery the fans will be sending me messages.

"All of my life, and in my career here at Liverpool, nothing has been easy. It's another obstacle but I am sure I will achieve everything I dream of in a Liverpool shirt and I will be back sooner than people expect."

It makes me feel almost ashamed that this young lad, who reviled by so many LFC fans two years ago, still kept his faith in a positive outcome all through his difficult learning period, through the bad times of H+G and the lacklustre performances under Roy Hodgson, and despite the fact that lots of the club's own fans wanted shot of him.

And still he has faith that he'll achieve his goals in an LFC shirt. What a guy. He has more faith than lots of the club's fans have.

Those fans who are jumping down Andy Carroll's throat need to think about how Lucas got the same treatment they are dishing out now to Carroll, and how he managed to come through it a better player than ever.
The striker's role is even more vulnerable to a lack of confidence, so lets get behind the big lad.
He's Liverpool's no 9, he's our lad- so lets act that way.

Rafa stuck with lucas no matter what, kenny doesnt feel the same about carroll, i guess its different with a striker compared to a defensive midfeilder. i think carroll is a good finisher, he was just getting crappy service from downing and henderson at the start of the season (henderson can not cross to save his life, he can hit ball but his vision is crap)

A big pat on the back for Rafa for not only keeping signing Lucas,but converting him into that holding midfielder role,and keeping him at the club. With all the s**te that was constantly being thrown at Lucas and for how long it went on,it would've been the easiest thing in the world just to have washed his hands of him and move him on. Obviously costing as much as A.C did,i hope I'm wrong but the big man mightn't be afforded that much time like Lucas got. End of the day,it has to be counter productive to constantly berate a player so let's just support the big man. His confidence can't be great right now but let's not make the same mistake twice,or even thirice re Hendo,and remember that these are young players,not seasoned pro's like Downing,who can deal with this crap being levelled at them.
Jonson.

It does make you wonder mate. I'll admit I'd have to hang my head in shame slating the guy a few seasons ago and wanting him moved on as far from Liverpool as possible. The fact that he's got to where he is now has me eating a large quantity of humble pie. It's a good lesson right there about slating any other players, which is why Carroll, Hendo, etc. will have my full backing while playing for the Club. Ah, just all the best to Lucas while he recovers and I can't wait to see him back again playing for us. Good luck Lucas!

team to play fulham..

suarez carroll

downing adam spearing kuyt

enrique agger carragher johnson

reina

Dunno if this is ur guess for the team or your own choice- but surely bellamy and maxi should start- their defense is too immobile to deal with their movement- playing Carroll would b bread and butter for hangeland

Hendo in rather then Kuyt. he is doing well and shouldnt be drop from startig 11.

My team would be

suarez bellamy

maxi adam henderson downing
enrique agger skrtel johnson

reina

Based on current form maxi deserves the chance to play first team.

Danny

Danny

Have to agree with Danny !
Thanks,
Adam O'K ;) YNWA

I like the versatility in this team.I think with suarez,bellamy,maxi and downing they can play some nice link up play and also interchange positions to make life diffcult for fulham

Danny

My team would be

suarez bellamy

maxi adam henderson johnson
enrique agger skrtel kelly

reina
Adder L12

Something like in the first game against Chelsea. Without Carroll on the pitch we were playing a good passing game and Maxi got on the score sheet.
For me Carroll is great at holding up play and a good player who will eventually become great but I just don't like the Route1 football we use with him on the pitch.
I'd rather have Bellamy and Maxi in the team for now just until he discovers his old form.
Sorry for the long rant !
Thanks,
Adam O'K ;) YNWA

hey ed, wilfried zaha rumours are doing the rounds at the minute, how much would he set us back and is he good enough? {Ed001's Note - probably about 5m and I believe there is no interest in him, I am told the scouts were not impressed.}

Thank god! Another wickham aka tube!

i think defoe would be a good strike partner for luis suarez i mean he could do us for a few years get us the 20 to 30 goals we need to get us into the champo what do you think eds
{Ed001's Note - he takes about 8 years to score 20 goals, he is an extremely average striker at best.}

suso looks fabregas mould? opinions please

Vanajam

Not full but a bit of. as I think suso can cross the ball better then Fab.

Suso i dunnoo..in my eyes hes luis garcia mould take away the two footed part, same speed(not pacey but fast enough), skill, crossing/passing, shot and can play in WFL/R, AM, SS

and adorjan is like silva or kaka

morgan - kenny mixed with fowler (looks like kenny aswel physically and in the face)

toni silva reminds me of douglas costa

I've never had the pleasure of seeing these kids in action but the way you describe them, like fabregas, silva and kaka!?! Come on, surely not?

been on this site for a few years now,some people have short memories,a year ago they were crying out for lucas to be dropped,sold ,loaned out,sacked,the whole lot,then their was the kenny should go fuds after the spurs game,we are liverpool not chelsea,we give the manager time to pick up when the last manager( who rightly so had to go) left the club in a fine mess,now its king kenny again and lucas is the best player in the team (he is playing out of his skin)out injured ,and we will miss him,what i am saying is give players ,managers,trainning staff time.we dont sack staff after half a season (apart from mr hodgson (to big a job for him) not his fault,kenny should have been in from the start,even the owners got that one wrong,but they have learned from some mistakes and got on with it,. Get behind liverpool and the staff,stop after one or two bad results calling for thier heads TONY FIFE

My team v Fulham

- - - - - - - - - - - Reina - - - - - - - - - - -

- Johnson - - Henderson - - Adam- - Enrique-

Bench
Doni
Carra
Coates
Spearing
Maxi
Bellamy
Carroll

Why would you break up a back 4 that has been working so well? Surely Maxi and Bellamy have earned a place in the starting 11 too?

Starting 11 should be;

Reina
Johnson, Skrtle, Agger, Enrique
Downing, Henderson, Adam, Maxi
Bellamy, Suarez

3-4-3 is ok But put Belamy rather then kuyt. and Maxi change downing.

If carroll was starting then maxi and downing swap wings?

If its gona be 523 then it will be maxi and bellamy with suarez

I see that our so-called 'Lucas' is out injured for six months. Everyone knows he's just malingering- I say shoot him and throw him overboard, and let the sharks have him.
Never mind kill off the opposition, we need to kill off half our own squad.

In fact toss over all those other so-called 'summer signings' too, and let's have a big rottweiler chase Suarez around the pitch to make sure he keeps up his bloody workrate, the lazy little b*stard.
Maybe he'll score a goal if he knows he'll get his arse bitten off, eh?

Rabid Red

Haha if you aren't a Manc, I'll eat my proverbial hat.

Incidentally, if in the unlikely event you actually are a Liverpool 'fan,' I recommend switching to the Mancs. That rabble would surely welcome someone like you.

DP

Are you joking mate or do you generally have no knowledge about football whatsoever?
Thekop1

....errrm ok mate, either you're not a liverpool fan or you're are s**t fan and either way im sure your teams got its own worries so you just twoddle off to whatver cave you came from mate -McMenemy

After Sir Alex-x are we going to have
another serial manc poster - Rabid-Red?
Come on bring it on mate!

To be honest, in writing that I was trying to have a sideways swipe at all those people who keep shouting for Andy Carroll's head without giving him enough time to adapt his game.
I don't want any of the summer signings dropped (duh), and anyone with eyes in their head can see that Suarez is one of the hardest working players on the pitch.

Lucas is a star now and everyone loves him- but barely two seasons ago these same people were giving him flak that are slagging big Andy off now.
What I was trying to say is don't give up on a player just because he's on poor form.
We should have learned a lesson from the incredible development of Lucas as a player.
Get behind Andy C, and maybe his game will start to sharpen up, and maybe in a season's time he'll become the great player that we all want to see.

I must say, the sarcasm wasn't terribly obvious! Regardless, I retract my comment (if indeed you are Rabid Red)

Watching the Euro 12 draw and listening to a bunch of clueless thick ex players talking about how Rooney must go to the Euros. This is why we never do any good, it's because we don't drop players who fail, time and time again. Let me make it easy for them and give the team that England should go with next year
===========Hart===========

Johnson==King==Jones==Baines

===========Parker=========

======Gerrard===Wilshere=====

Johnson================Young

============Bent============

I wouldn't even take Rooney

Chris in Tamworth

I think King's legs would fall off Cris.
Such a shame about his knees.
Class act.
Also rate Smalling better than Jones ,maybe Kelly will be playing CB then.

KT!

Can't see King getting in before Cahill who Capello seems to rate very highly although King in my opinion is a much better player. Also Jagielka had a stormer against Spain as well. I also can't see what Adam Johnson getting into the team before Walcot,who also seem's to have a little place in Fabio's heart and our very own Downing who's not replicated his form for England enough for us unfortunately. Is Wilshire gonna be fit,if not I'd see Rodwell in their or if he can get more gametime in the middle of the park and take his self imposed shackels off and be a bit more exspansive like the pass through to Bellamy shows he's a quality footballer. Defo agree with your choice of changing the left back but don't know if that will happen. A fit Gerrard is a given,i think he might give it up after the Euro's but also thinks he's deserving of 100 caps so we'll see. Let's hope when he comes back he can stay fit for us and that he's finally over his injury woes that have dogged him for the last 2 seasons. Up front we'll leave it their mate ha ha, pretty nice draw though,unlike Ireland's who i'll be supporting who have been stung big time with the group they got. Any how makes a change from our very strong opinion's of a certain Liverpool player mate ha ha.
Jonson.

02 Dec 2011 17:26:02
Now Lucas is out for possibly 6 months we need a D M and i can think of only 1 player with proven premiership ability and who would play his heart out for this club.

He has excellent distribution skills and the i'm sure most fans would love to see him back in a Liverpool shirt. His name was banded about in the summer as a possible target on the rumours page and a few people said he doesn't fit in with current transfer policy but that didn't stop us signing Bellamy

So please Kenny & Damien have a word with J W H and get in touch with Real Madrid and ask them how much for Xabi Alonso.

Alonso defensive midfielder you avin a larf!

Alonso needed a second pair of legs alongside him , just to play Quaterback in front of the back four .

02 Dec 2011 17:12:03
Wifried Zaha and Ki Seung Yong for January! Throw Hoilett in the mix and you have a squad which will compete for the forseeable future! Any thoughts Ed?

che_mistry {Ed001's Note - I would be disappointed with Zaha and Ki, neither are good enough in my opinion. Ki has not been outstanding in a poor league and Zaha has absolutely no end product. Hoilett would be decent, but I fail to see the need for a left winger when we have Downing, Bellamy and Maxi for now and Sterling to break through.}

We should just get willian already

02 Dec 2011 16:58:44
i would like to see the club make an effort to sign someone like hargreves. he needs a club that plays him and wee need a solid midfielder that knows the league. im not talking about replacing lucas but adding a quality back up for him. i dont care what the club says, we need to bring in cover for lucas aswell as a striker.....

kevo's

Didn't he sign for Man City? {Ed001's Note - and got injured.}

He played in the carling cup mid week. {Ed002's Note - At 30 and only having played a handful of games in the past couple of years I suspect that the risk is way too high - rather like the insurance premiums the club would need to pay.}

He is at city on a pay as you play deal. we need short term cover. he needs games. we are not challenging city so the risk, price is worth it imo, there is no gamble there on the playing side. its better than taking the risk on someone that needs to bed into the league. look at the carroll gamble. not paid off and warming the bench for 35 million squid. its just a long shot but he is exactly what is needed. short term quality in a key possition..kev

02 Dec 2011 16:51:18
There are about 10 times the amount of people posting here and moaning about people posting we should replace Lucas as there are actually people posting that we should replace Lucas!

Well I want to have a moan about you moaning about the people who are moaning about the people who are posting about replacing Lucas?

I think.

I guess i will speak for the more frequent posters like myself and aplause what effort, time and commitment the ed's put into this site. The information which they provide us is simply up for the jurys and is only a opinion not a solution. If you dont agree with what the ed's report or dont agreee with their opinions then why ask? Honestly, if you believe the ed's know more than you (which i probably think they do) and they dismiss any transfer talk, dont question it, dont mock them because the site isnt about telling the fickle fans what they want to hear. Its about realistic tranfer gossip and banter. Leave the eds alone.

Adzii {Ed002's Note - Generally we are open to discussion (except Ed007 who is a real weirdo) but the abuse just gets us pissed and abusers banned. But thanks for the kind thoughts.}

Ed007's invite to the christmas doo got "lost in the post"

Leave ed007 alone scottish guys are cool :)

I fear you may be joking ed001 but I so want this to be true! {Ed001's Note - I am not joking, he is a Star Wars nerd. If you have ever seen Fan Boys, you will know why we call him 'Windows'.}

Correct me if i'm wrong ed but isn't you nickname 'sheldon'? from the big bang theory.

Danny {Ed001's Note - erm no, they just started comparing me because I said I hated the show.}

Actually I think when I was on the TV talk page ed007 said your nick is Sheldon.I think there calling you it behind your back mate. lol

Danny {Ed001's Note - like 002 pointed out, 007 is just weird!}

Lets get a vote going.

agree - ed007 is weird

disagree - ed007 is normal. (sort of)

Danny {Ed001's Note - I am adding my vote to agree! He is a huge fan of Friends, that says it all (I know he says they are for his missus, but we all know the truth!).}

Well I have to click agree now.I need to change my vote.

Agree - ed007 should be shot

disagree - ed007 should be shot

Will people stop saying we need a replacement for Lucas. Hes not left hes injured and will be back we need cover for lucas which we have and can make do with what we have till hes fit again. We need to keep the heart of our team and the ethos the players currently have Lucas included the guy has given his all since day 1 regardless of fans getting on his back or supporting him. Players like him Adam, Spearing, Henderson, Shelvy are all the players we really need they play with there heart and to be honest they give more to our club regardless of ability than a lot of Luxury/Mercinary players would all the skill and ability in the world doesn't make you a good team player and 1 man no matter how good could never beat 11 working as a team.
I am hoping that Kenny gives some of the young lads chance to shine and this sad circumstance turns in a blessing and a new discovery. I know the lads we have will relish the chance they have to shine and would give every ounce of blood sweat and tears for our club like lucas has since we bought him through thick and thin. Look forward to kenny showing the fans the faith he has in the players and hopefully some of the "fans" can start doing the same. We don't need all these high profile names and liverpool fc is not Fifa or Fantasy league at most we could do with a right sided attacking midfielder/striker but its not essential as we have players who can play there and who will put in a shift and give 110%.In summer everyone was screaming we had to many midfielders and now all of a sudden we don't have enough. How things change in such a short space of time. Get well soon Lucas wishing you all the best and a speedy recovery and don't worry whoever comes in is only keeping your place warm for you.
Carlos79

I think the most obvious replacement for Lucas is Spearing. Henderson, Shelvey, and Adam ar more creative midefeilders. Spearing is a good little tackler, and is the closest we've got in the midfeild to the style of Lucas in my opinion.

I'm gutted about Lucas's injury but as the Canadian lad pointed out, it gives a fringe player the chance to have a run in the first team and show Kenny what they can do more regularly. Positives from negatives and all that.

Scott78.

Coady, Coady, COADY! there is a decent run of games coming up to text the young lad.... Give him a run and see if it works!

Just to let you know Ed I can still only post using the mobile site from my iPhone am I the only one having this problem? Cheers

In response to the person taking a dig at Ed002, I think I speak for everyone when I say we appreciate what the Ed's do in providing us with this information. And what do we want them to do, lie to us just so we can be happy? If a player isn't going to come, then the Ed's will say no. Simple as. YNWA {Ed002's Note - You are very sweet.}

02 Dec 2011 15:23:33
All this talk about replacing Lucas is pointless in my opinion. Lucas has a particular set of skills and weaknesses that make him who he is. He is excellent at taking the ball away from opposing midfielders and very good at pressing them when they suspect it the least. However, he brings very little offensively. I've always said that I'd take him over Mascherano any day and I stand by it. Now, with this injury the focus should not be on who replaces him, but rather on how the team should be set up for the rest of the season. If we plug another player in there and ask him to be Lucas, we will wreck our season. We need to put one of the current players in a situation where the lad will have no choice but to step up. It could be Henderson, Shelvey, Spearing or anyone else for all I care. This injury has to be the catalyst to someone's break-out moment.

Good point but saying he offers nothing offensively is...well, offensive.

The offensive part is true tho. Lol

LAVERS

If you mean he offers nothing offensively in the way of scoring goals regularly then you're right. But if the lad makes a tackle, then passes the ball successfully to a team mate (Which he does more often than not) who happens to be in a move that leads to a goal, then by that rational, he does offer something "offensively". Just not the eye catching Suarezesque style of play.

He's an unsung part to a lot of our goals. It just goes under the radar.

Scott78

I disagree- these days Lucas is always looking for a forward pass when he's in possession, and often he thinks quick enough to spot a good pass, slot the ball through under pressure and get a move going.
If you look at the way he plays, he's getting better and better at going forwards. He'll never be a great dribbler or have a 30 yard shot he can rely on, week in week out- but his passing range and his reading of the game is getting better every week.

I can't believe I ever got that voodoo doll of him two seasons ago...

I just wanted to point out that in the initial post I said that Lucas offers very little offensively as in going forward and making the last pass or finishing an offensive move. That is not his role and it will never be. However, the point I was trying to make was that someone who is already in the squad should take the vacant spot and use his very own qualities to help the club. I was not slating Lucas; I've been behind him when almost everyone thought he was the source of all our problems. But, Lucas is gone for the season and we have a few lads at the club who can use his absence to turn their fortunes around. (Yes, I'm talking about you Mr. Henderson!)

hey ed's, if we're trying to boost our striking force way do we have a look at Alvaro Negredo. I think he would be perfect, scores goals quick and only 26!! what do you think {Ed002's Note - I don't know of any interest in Negredo.}

Liverpool will never buy him, after all the problems suarez has had he would be terrified to shout him, bob paisleys skids

@Thanks,James

Terrific read there, lad. Thanks for posting.

Indeed, young Lucas has been hugely important for us, in fact the most important member of this squad, for me.

I wrote on here the other about my admiration for this lad. Bob the Red also wrote a fine piece telling of the lad's travails and triumphs.

This lad's my hero.
I admire men of talent, hardwork and pride with a stomach for a fight and are unwavering in their grit.
I defend the corner of the undergo.

To a footballer to be a Liverpool player, The Great Man remarked, he had to run through brickwalls, and come out fighting the other side.

Now, Lucas didn't through just brickwalls. He run through brickwalls which on the side were being pushed against him by shedloads of very rogue elements.

Now these elements not only wanted Lucas to fail to run through them brickwalls. They wanted to push the brickwalls to an extent that they would fall on Lucas and bury him under.

But being the fighter he is, believing in his strength to smash through brick, stomach to bear the resulting pain and stamina to KEEP GOING, the lad blasted through, knocking over not only brickwall but the opposing forces the other, leaving them sprawling on the turf like dead flies.

Out on the other side he came, fighting like mad.

Lucas Leiva is a Liverpool player. Bill Shankly, not says so.

To the lad himself, get well soon, son.
You've a collective of men to lead to greatness.

Baie dankie

Ray Burmeister
Ps: ed, who's Fer Leroy? How nifty is he?
{Ed002's Note - He is not a Defensive Midfield player but has been doing well since his move to Twente.}

Don't let the Lucas moaners
get to you Ray,
All in all there just a
another brick in the wall,

hey moaners, leave that Lucas alone...

Forgive me if this is ridiculous but what are the chances of KK & DC going in for Jack Rodwell?

Ed 002 - can you pls comment on this? {Ed002's Note - I can't really comment sensibly on random names. I would say the chances are similar to the chances of KK & DC making a move for Nosh A Lody of Veikkausliiga.

Yes Ed002 but still more likely than going for Danger Fourpence from Kiglon Bird FC!

Travelling back from London after the match last week. Was sat next to a "well informed" journo. I quized the life out of him about the team and all things Liverpool.
Rumour has it that LFC are in advanced talks with the biggest brand name in the world....Coca Cola.....about naming rights to the new Anfeild.
I am still sceptical as I cant see what Coca Cola would get out of being our sponser. The journo said it was all about to come out. I suppose the colour scheme would be right. Has any one else heard anything?
Razored.

What about Adidas? I know they lost (or it appears to us) the shirt sponsership to Warrior but they could have easily afforded to match their offer. Is there something in the pipe line we are all overlooking? I thought we were adidas best selling shirt along with Real, why would they want to loose us over a few million which now a days is pennys? {Ed002's Note - The difference is hardly pennies.}

Just been thinking, we should be ok without lucas, but we will miss him. All the lucas haters have eaten their words.recently and will see his worth now hes missing.

Anfield Andy

Look at the stats from Lucas this season, the amount of tackles is going to be difficult to replace we may have to accept having less possession in games. The other point to note is the heading ability of Lucas which if you have noticed is very accurate indeed. 90% of balls he wins in the air are accuratey headed to a team mate. He recycled possession better than 99% of midfielders in the league so to expect a attacking midfielder like Hendo or even spearing to replicate Lucas is daft. Its nearly like the difference between Insua and Enrique at left back or Suarez and Ngog up front.

Ngog?

From Liverpool Echo:

"Former Liverpool attacker Ryan Babel has had a run-in with a former convict dressed as children's cartoon character Spongebob Squarepants. Babel hired the entertainer for a children's party but argued with him after Spongebob removed his costume and started smoking in front of guests".

LOL! You couldn't make it up! Hilarious! Wonder if Ryan got into fisticuffs with Sponge Bob Sqaurepants?

I'd rather have Spongebob playing on the left than Babel, to be honest

I reckon Agger could fill in as DM with poor old Lucas out injured, that would be good to see...Carra and (ninja)Skrtel as CMs obviously...

BUT in reality it will probably be Adam and Henderson in the middle, with Kuyt helping out from the right.

Just thought I'd mention it cos I'm bored...:)

Who'd play CB then. Coates and Wilson/ kelly. lolz. :)

We will all miss Lucas that's for sure but i think we'll go with a five man mid-field with Adam playing the Lucas role don't worry lads i checked the my horoscopes were going to win the League

In my opinion Jay Spearing defo deserves a chance in the centre of the park to play the Lucas rule. He's been brought up to play football in the correct manner,knows his limitations and has a great attitude. I think we'd be leaving the back four a lot more expsosed if we put Hendo and Adam in their. I'd like to see Hendo play in the middle but his tackling has to improve a bit. Adam has defo improve in this area,more then likely down to fitness,because he was never afraid to quick his foot in,just took him to long to get there. Maybe at home that combo might work when where right on top of teams but away i think we need that little bit of steel Jay has to his game. Downing can play in the middle of the park as well,not sayin that's the answer but I don't think we need to be throwing money at an out and out defensive midfielder in Jan. I'd see how we fared in December,hope Gerrard is back for early Jan and by a proper right sided player and a forward,if Sissoko is available at the right price maybe him but as Ed002 pointed out he's more an offensive player then defensive one but would be a welcome addition to the squad.

ive been reading thru pages n pages of posts about a replacement for lucas. We can do anythin for another month anyway, n for those who watched spearing at the end of last season will remember that he was excellent, even against the better teams. lets get behind jay n give him the suppport he needs, n if by jan its clear hes not up to it, then bring in a temp measure to cover. we mite have stevie back by then anyway. i think jay will prove all the doubters wrong. 02 Dec 2011 12:25:49
We dont need a replacement for Lucas.
When Gerrard got injured we needed the collective to raise the standards and show we were not a one man team. They did, and he will be back soon to join in and rasie the bar once again

When Carra got injured we had ready made players to step up and show we have even even better defenders, Aggger & Skrtel have done that. Coates will get there too. Look at out defensive record over teh last 10 games.

Now Lucas is out ( who has been immense and will be a loss for us) I believe we will find out that Spearing & Hendo are just as good whilst possibly offering skills that Lucas does not have. Spearing in particular will be sensational in my opinion.

Dont look to the chequebook every time.
We have a great squad, we need to be patient, trust the squad, support the squad, have faith in the squad. If you want instant fickle manufactured success go support someone else, dont care who that is.

We have come along way in only 12 months. In recent times we have lost Alonso, MAsch, & torres, (arguably all world class - total of about £100m worth of talent on transfer fees alone.,) , th eclub was getting screwed by the owners, and rafa unfortunately lost the plot,that would kill most clubs for decades, but we are recovering from that very nicely thank you very much.

RED FIRST & LAST

Cant agree more, spending money isent the solution to win. Ill rather have 11 fine players with theyr LFC heart beating thene 11 money hungry world class players.
It never lasts, look at Chity, they started of extremly well, but now it looks like 11 individuals, every one looking to shine as player, the team comes second. I dont see them winning any thing this season.
Points will start dropping in EPL while CL looks to be far from secured. And im more worried about the lesser teams for us thene our double against Chity.

I wont be supriset if both Tottenham and the scums ends on top of them in May!

Close out Silva and youll see that almost no balls will be past, just individuals trying to amaze.

The Rob

And besides, lets not be fooling our selfs, there is NO ONE that could come in to the team and replace Lucas! Its just naive, i think Spearing is as good as any one who could be brought in.
On top of that he has a LFC heart and plays the LFC way since day one.

The Rob

But now two first team players are injured its a different ball game

02 Dec 2011 12:01:44
Hi Eds,

I know everyone is banging on about replacing Lucas. Not as a long-term solution, but has everyone forgotten about Spearings's performances last season under Kenny? he put in a cracking performance against Arsenal and City, has great passing and for a little guy isn't shy of a tackle. Obviously everyone wants a new signing, but with a striker the main priority, Jay will be drooling at the chance to prove himself, and isn't young brittish players with a hunger for the pitch and a desire to prove themselves Kenny's transfer policy last summer anyway?

6th place. spearing is ok at champoinship level. no disrespect to him or shelvey that is their level at the moment. kevo's

02 Dec 2011 11:41:48
This season is worse (1.76 points per game) than second half of last season after KK came back (1.83 points per game). So what does that say about our summer buys? Red Aled

But that would put us on 68 pts at the end of the season! That would put us tied for 4th last season.

Oh noooo .07 less!! lets give kenny the sack tomorrow

We always have a slower start, and it says a lot that we are where we are with so many new players bedding in

Cup half full or empty?

02 Dec 2011 11:41:16
Ed, have you heard anything about Liverpool looking at Napoli's Walter Gargano?

I believe the Uruguayan link with Suarez and Coates, along with the fact that he wouldn't cost more than 6-9mil pound would be well worth it for an adequate Lucas replacement.

Liam {Ed002's Note - I assume this is a random name plucked from Fantasy Manager or YouTube. I know little of the player but there is no known interest from Liverpool, or anyone else for that matter.}

02 Dec 2011 11:32:20
this isn't a rumour but more of a discussion point. Do we think there's any wisdom in bringing in Jermain Defoe in Jan? He's a bit of a flat track bully and often disappears in big games, but against lesser sides, he's a proven prem goal scorer and would be fairly cheap, as he seems surplus at Spurs.

Two points here, the first being he won't move but if he were to move his preferred destination is thought to be qpr & as for disappearing? he's scored against the ' big teams' your arsenals, chelsea's & uniteds! So I don't know where that info has come from?

Under Benitez's rein, Liverpool were organized and difficult to beat. After one poor season he was dismissed and although many fans was angered, a change was needed to bring in a fresh confidence within the club.
Many fans chanted for Dalglish but the club preferred to give Roy Hodgson the task due to his previous euro run with Fulham. His cv and his nationality was a bonus.
Many fans disagreed with this discission as Hodgson's football was boring and his cv is not as impressive as others.
The fans gave him a chance and supported him.
Hodgson's lack of support to his players and poor dire football lost fans in their drove.
It was obvious the job was to big for him and he was dismissed, being the only manager since Before shankly not to win a trophy. {Ed002's Note - Noting that he was not long enough in teh post to win a trophy.}
Dalglish then took charge and brought in a heart and philosophy than was so common in the 80s.
Pass n move and flow attacking football returned to our club.. Not since Roy Evans have we played such attractive football.
King Kenny I salute you for making me look forward to the next game.
You eye for football and talent is without question and that is why I believe that donkey Carroll will prove to be a outstanding striker. If you believe in him the the fans should trust you.
The king is the best thing to happen to this club since the err the king

Benitez ran the club into the ground ya clown

You seemed quite loyal till you mentioned "donkey Carroll" have some respect for your club and players.

Did he really run the club into the ground, yes he made mistakes but with the recourses he had no one would have done a better job. He put us back onto the biggest stage in European football and brought LFC into the 21st century!
Have a think about our squad and the level we were playing at before he came to LFC then ask yourself who is the clown? Why waste your time being a nugget and writing such pointless s**t!

You must remember Rafa often had to sign players that were 2nd even 3rd choice cause the club would not pay. i dont know if it is true maybe someone could comment, was there not a deal in place for Villa but Parry said no cause he refused to pay an extra 2 million. price quoted around 24 million and Parry would only go to 22 max?. david silva same again and many more good players. i think if we had got these players we would have won the league under Rafa. j

He should have had a chance to get back in the top 4. the season before that he had second place. he would have done alot better than roy. Masch, Aquilani and lucas what a combo

but im not complaining live goes on.

02 Dec 2011 11:09:06
Refering to my previous post id like to add that if it would work out for Maxi as ST we wouldent have to spend at all in January, and then having alot more cash for summer whene we might go for players that only wants to go for CL, and we could get quality!
And besides I belive that Carrol wil hit the form, you foks just need to have some faith in him! I really think he will be class as soon he finds his game in LFC, our game id totally diffrent from what he was used to at Newcastle. What he needs is support to gather strenth to adapt, his young and the presure is to much to do with atm.

Besides, you cant put his price tag on every effort of his, couse it was not him that askt for the cash. As i see it all complains on his price tag is a indirect jump on Kenny, wish perhaps aint to blame if i got the transfer right; Torres for 20 £ + Carrol no mather price, so Chelski overpricet him! He was brought in as a talent with some experience, so lets pretend he cost us 10 £ and sheer for him as he develops!

Last game vs Chelski he was ok, even showd a good will! Making space for others to run and holding of deffence at freekicks and corners so players like Kelly was totaly uncoverd an could score.
I think that if our unbelivble high expectetions goes to what can be askt from him and we stop being frustrated at even ok deeds becouse they dont reach up to our 35£ expectetions of him, all will get good and he will be haild in May!

As our loggan says, You'll never walk alone! But we are showing him the oppsit of that, Chity/Cheldki supporter style.

Btw, loved Lucas saying 'I never walk alone' pointing to the injury time to come.

Love our own! Trash the others!(on pitch)

YNWA, The Rob.

Edit, even if he would score two in every game since he got back from injury it wouldent justifie his price! A player that blizt up for half a seson at his early 20, who was injurd and out of shape when bought is never worth more then 15£! No mather what he does for his team after that.
Its simply chelski that fawkt it up, Newcastle wasent looking to sell and he dident wanna go. But money talks, and we should be happy he trys to bring something to the pitch and not whinning about having to play here, infact every time he get on he trys to pep up the team and get invalvd! Also says hes happy, or was before every single supporter turnd theyr back on him.

The price is irrelevant, with FT going we had to make a statement. Put this argument on it's head for the money we paid for Suarez, Adam, Enrique, Bellamy etc. How much would you say they were woth now. Carroll may not turn out to be world class, but I'm sure he'll be an asset to the club. Chelsea, United & City have all spent 30 million plus on out and out failures, but we are the only ones where the media are obsessed with our purchases.

Also think how much tax we would have had to pay at the start of April if we had £50mil lying around? and swapping a 5 year contract of £120k-ish a week for half/third of that? All adds up!

I try not to lock my head on the players price but his heart. If he gives all and wants to represent our beloved club ill say his priceless. If a player comes to earn a easy buck ill say kick him out no mather what we gave for him.

We hade to make a statment and we did, considering the team last Jan we made a hell of a run till May. It strenghtet us alot and during summar we got even more quality. I doubt no one in our squad even know some have it harder thene others (Andy, Downing).

I just think well get even futher by supporting the team and its players and stop kicking the once that are on a low, it simply dosent help.

I belive Kenny makes all the right calls, and that we should support the team he picks and stop compering our players to their price tags.

A Liverpool heart is worth more then a very good footed golddigger.

Is there nobody that can see Spearing covering Lucas adequately, he is a decent defensive midfielder and with Henderson or Adam also playing I think we should be ok.
I understand that this is by no means preferable and that Lucas, who has finally made all doubters eat their words, will be a massive miss for us. I would just hate to buy a DM in January and he take the place of Lucas permanantly, for me a loan would be a possibility, but then the quality of a loan player would only be as good as Spearing.
The only way I can see a good way forward would be to take a midfielder who can play defensively but will be used in a different role in the future, for example CB or AM.

Anfield Andy

There seems to be a few posters who don't rate Spearing. He should be given his chance, at least until the January transfer window.
And I wish people would stop mentioning using centre backs and full backs in midfield. Been watching crappy England too much.
Spearing will surprise you, I'm telling you. The lad will not let us down.
The Real KB

I agree KB. Stick little Jay in, you couldn't ask for a more committed player. He my not have 'mad skillz' but his attitude is great and would play 100% for the team even if he knew a replacement was going to be signed in Jan.

davethebutcher

Defo mate. What will be interesting is the formation Kenny will play on Monday night. So far, I think he's only strayed from 4-4-2 when we've been playing one of the 'big boys'.
Will he stick with this, now that both Lucas and Gerrard are out ?
Thoughts please class.
All essays to be handed in before the day is out. No copying !
The Real KB

Spearing did really well when given his chance under KK last season.

No, he's not as good a player in that role as Lucas now is, but very few are- but he already knows the setup and tactics, and will give 100%, and he won't give too much away.

Bringing in a new face in Jan is tricky- it's very expensive to get someone of Lucas' quality, and they may not adapt quickly.

Maybe KK will give him a run and see how he gets on till Jan, and if he's doing OK we'll stick with him- if not, a panic-buy in Jan to tide us over.
But really, this is mainly what Jay is here for- to step in as full and capable cover when Lucas is injured.
It's his time to step up, I reckon, so lets get behind him 100%.

Just occurs to me, couldn't Martin Kelly do the job for Lucas. Pace, control, central defender who is good going forward. Just the question does he understand the position? Also Flannagan played midfield for the reserves the other day.
Kev

Why not spearing?

Kelly has played in CM when he was a youth player

Taken from the LFC website from the interview with Kelly himself on 30 Nov,

"He said: "I'm made up to get a chance tonight and now I have to keep working hard in training.

"I hope to bring more goals to my game. I used to be a central midfielder when I was younger and I do have that attribute in my locker.

"I keep working on my attacking play as well as keeping on top of the defensive work.

"At the minute I'm looking forward to getting some more game time and showing the boss what I can do."

Steven Gerrard on Lucas Leiva:

"In July 2007, a young lad knocked at my door and asked for my autograph. I gave him a signed jersey of mine and he left. The next day i was surprised to see the lad train for us [Liverpool]. From then on he has become hugely important for us, its now time for me to get his autograph."

Thanks, James.

Did Gerrard say that ?
That's a good one. It sounds like Kenny's influence is paying off !

Hello fellow Reds!
As a long time reader and firts time poster id like to shortly intodruce my self; I am a 24 yrs old Swed and ive been cheering for us for as long i can remeber. Ive trackt our history and seen games playd far before my time.
Best moment would be the Champions final of 2005, that i recall.
Biggest legend in my opinion would be KK, Gerrard is right up there too.

Now to my thoughts;
Firstly i am so frustrated on behalf of Lucas, i always said it would get going for him and seeing it happend over the past years was really nice. He out grew every on in EPL and even thene he continued his evolpment.
In recent games i even started to see a captain in him, yelling and commanding his mids (heart of our game) to preform on top level week after week. Just the way he started to get Adam going, wow.
How ever i think we manage with out him with out blowing our wallet on a rescue plan. I think Jay will fill out one of Lucas boots, and that is as good as any other in EPL! And with Gerrard around the corner i dont feel theres reason for panic.

I would try lifting G. Johnsson up the pitch and place Kelly behind, they could take turns staying in def and attacking, And Jay in the middle as DCM, iv seen his abillity proven enough to know that he will manage this, and his opening creativ long pass can on good days be world class! The problem would be if Jay goes of injurd, and it might be to much to ask of him to top preform thrue the entire Januari, point is i would rather spent money on a clinical striker then filling out.a possition that atleast 2 players allready in the squad are competing for (Jay, Coady, not counting Lucas.

Enough on that, get well Lucas and im waiting for you to comeback with open arms and an open heart beating with every tackle you make! Your my hero!

Changing the subject now, our lack of a clincal finisher is something we are very aware of. Luis is unbelivble but he aint the one thats suppost to make all our goals, but i think with recent events we should consider putting in Maxi as he has a good comunication with Suarez and he can obvesly score goals. Most of his goals are are pure striker with one touch, and he really know how to recive a cross and make the best of it. Althue i doubt his fit to run as ST for 90 mins, perhaps 60 mins from start, we all know we can expect atleast one goal out of him at every game..
Since our dec fixures are mainly against 'lesser' teams it could be tried, even thue i see the dm situation as a prio.

I recon im not even near the starting XI for Fulham but would be nice seeing a 4-4-2 in atleast one game before new years where we try out following:
Reina
Kelly. Skrtel. Agger. Jose.
Johnsson. Hendo/Jay. Charlie/Jay. Bellamy.
Maxi. Suarez.

For the Fifa players i recomend you to try the Maxi & Suarez at top, Maxi finds space and scores pleny, also i get the best out of Suarez with this!

Ending it of with sending out my thanks for a splending site that always give a good read, GJ Eds!

The Rob.

Greetings Rob, I like your sustainable approach! Spearing should defo be given a chance, and I hope he'll do well.
For the maxi part, I am not that certain, he'd work well against some oppositions, but we'll see.

Drigan

Maxi as ST is a real long shot. But he knows how to finish and he is clearly finding open areas in attack and do make him self availible for passes in those areas.

Would be really dearing to try against lesser teams, could be fun

Forgot to sign previus

do we have any loan player's in mind?

02 Dec 2011 09:19:25
lucas is out,and he was the last player we needed injured.
spearing will proberly take his place untill januari.i hope coady will get a chance,he might surprise us all.i had a feeling that we would be buying a striker in januari.but with these problems i would not be surprised if we buy 2/3 players.lucas and gerrard we suppose too be the heart of the team and there both injured.

Saw De Jong against Fulham last night. He did ok. Def not a pacy RWF type player that we need so much. If bought he will play more centrally where Carroll is supposed to be playing. Hope we still buy another quality pacy wide man. We need more pace in the team upfront.

I have a horrible feeling that, unless the FA decide to drop the charges against Luis, any proceedings and possible sanctions if found guilty,most unlikely in my view, could come at the worst time for us at Christmas and January.

{Ed002's Note - The delay is being caused by Liverpool, or more specifically Suarez.}

Suarez wont be banned, bob paisleys skids

02 Dec 2011 09:00:29
Okey i see alot of people saying Spearing should start...i just want to know do all of you(including ED's) see him as a world class player or a player good enough to help liverpool end above teams like Spurs, Arsenal and Chelsea?...cause i'll be honest and i dont want to slate him...but i do feel the team looks a bit mediocre with him in it... {Ed002's Note - He is certainly not world-class.}

Hendo and Adam in CM. Spearing & Shelvey as backup

Hendo & Adam would get overrun. I'd like to see us play a 433 with Spearing Hendo & Adam.

Agree, great lad but will get bullied and
out skilled in midfield. But what are the other options, with Gerrard injured? Hendo
is more attacking midfield than defending one. Maybe could play sweeper, Carra or Kelly in front of the two center halves? Looks like Spearing is going to have to get in there and prove us both wrong and lets hope he does.

Carra in the hold roll!perfect short term answer,gives both full backs the option to go forward even more he can slip back am make it 3 at the back.he did play alot of games in the middle for liverpool an i think he's played there for england.
kp

I love carra but you need to be able to pass when your playing in the midfield

What's wrong with you people? Lucas is injured and you want to buy a replacement - that's really disrespectful to him - what crappy fickle fans, go support Man Utd because that's who you sound like.

Gazman

You cant play when your injured. i dont think any of us mean a permanent replacement .
NZL_Red

Like the way you all want a permanent replacement for Gerrard?

What do you think shelvey has been recalled for? His health? Henderson can play middle, shelvey for cover. I'm not sure a loan (not permanent) Is the way forward and it's not the Liverpool way - if that's what you meant?

Gazman

Im just saying we arent looking for someone to permanently replace lucas in the first team. whatever kenny decides im happy with

it angers me that you tell me to go support the mancs. lol i couldnt think of a worse punishment NZL_Red

Gazman think your the one slightly overreacting here! Lucas is a legend and will be back in the team as soon as he is fit, and fair enough we have players who can play there but we dont have anyone specialized for that spot like Lucas is, maybe a back up in Jan is what is being suggested. Dont you be the fickle one jumping to conclusions about players being replaced now, and other posters opinions.. Mr.Jones

Yes, for his health. Injured players can't play.

You have lost me. What happens when the replacement and Lucas are both available?
Gazman

Surely competition for places cant be a bad thing.
NZL_Red

Gazman might have lost you, but there is this thing called squad depth also a thing called playing different formations, maybe both players can get played at the same time, who knows im happy both ways, the king has the club in his safe hands ! Mr.Jones

Exactly we might not even need another DM k.K may just change his tactics so one is unnecessary. its just a ballwinner who can distribute quickly and accurately is very rare and handy
NZL_Red

You'd like a bunch of spoilt little children who want a new toy to me. Maybe it would be appropriate to consider a replacement for Lucas if he was 32/33 but I cant see your argument. We have cover. It wouldn't surprise me if you were the ones who were on Lucas's back two years ago.

Gazman

Thats exactly it. we don't have quality cover in lucas role. spearing is the closest thing to lucas in terms of replacing his position on the field but he is no where near lucas quality. in other areas we are more well equipped to deal with injuries but D.M we appear to be short
NZL_red

Judging by the amount of disagree's from my original post there must be a lot of people who want a replacement for Lucas brought in, I maybe wrong in calling you fickle but I honestly thought we were better than that - what message does it send out to the younger lads and the reserves? I could understand if there was no talent coming through but there is, loads of it. You're attitude is a shame In my eyes.. If I was Jay Spearing or Henderson or even Coady I'd be a bit gutted if someone was brought in.

Gazman

My only point is if we want to continue with the same tactics that have worked for us recently we probly need a D.M (lucas role). henderson is quality but a different type of player more up and down the pitch and gets further forward but he could possibly adapt like lucas(although that took lucas awhile), Coady has great potential but imo not ready to be playing week in week out for the 1st team and as for spearing i think hes good but not lucas good.

Those players arnt specialized to that spot, i agree whole hartedly that the talent coming through is amazing to say the least! and yes give them a chance in that spot but if it doesnt work what then? The most interesting thing is your the only one using the word REPLACEMENT here, i prefer cover and maybe another option, but hey you seem convinced the rest of us hate Lucas and the others and want them out !! Mr.Jones (never tell me what type of supporter i am, theres only one and that red)

Gazman.

It was the 'go support Man Utd' comment that got you so many disagrees. I wrote at length about my opinion on this matter - I agreed with you that we should not buy.

I am also, like you, of the opinion that some fans seem to think we should just throw money at every problem - which is in my opinion (like you) the wrong approach.

But these fans can have their opinions too.

After all, who is to say that we don't sign someone who proves to be a fantastic signing and helps us into Europe (or to win the league?..... okay maybe not, but who knows?).

I hit disagree with you because of the Man U comment. I'm sure many others did too.

Talk about being divisive man!

I would consider telling you to f*ck off and support Utd - where you can insult your fellow supporters all you like.

But I would never stoop so low.

BJH YNWA (You might just be having a bad ftr day. We all have them - I have ranted here many times. But don't say THAT! It's the footballing equivalent of insulting someones mother!!!)

ps. A lot of people agree with your footballing assertions (not to buy/give existing LFC players a chance). More agreed than disagreed when I suggested it.

The last post wasn't from er gazman. Is there 2 gazmen now?

I'm not sure I'm the one being truly divisive? I'm not trying to suggest replacements for injured players.. If you are going to start being abusive then it's time to call it a day on here.

Gazman

P.s I think I can count the word replacement' nearly 50 times over the last 24 hours BJH. Now run along and play championship manager..

Gazman

Gazman... are you Lucas in disguise? I'm fairly certain that at most a small minority of fans calling for someone being brought in would never want Lucas back in the team. Fact of the matter is, Lucas is gone for the season, so needs to be replaced, either by a player already at the club or by buying/loaning a player. I fully expect the club to stick with what they've got, and give Hendo or Spearing a shot until Gerrard gets fit. BUT, if a high quality international defensively sound midfielder was available for loan for the rest of the season, why not bring them in?

Rugby Parker

Gazman.

What are you on about with the 'replacement' comment? What does that have to do with me? Run off and play Champ Man? Why? Because I agree with you?!?!

What an idiot.

lol.

I don't think there's a need to panic buy in January. Here are the list of players that have played in central midfield in their professional career before.

Adam, Suarez, Kuyt, Maxi, Downing, Henderson, Spearing, Shelvey, Gerrard, Carragher. Conor Coady as well, in the reserves.

So while none of them are specialist defensive midfielders, do we really need one? This season, we have most often played a 4-4-2 with a Lucas and Adam central midfield. This combination has yielded mixed results, but has really started to imrove recently. So, what if we switched to a 4-2-3-1(like in the Man City game), we do not use a specialist defensive midfielder but used 3 players who are mobile enough to play box to box. In this system, Adam, in my opinion, will be dropped as he is no box to box player(sorry). I would love to see this central midfield

Henderson Spearing Shelvey

There you go. Young, English, hungry. And they're all capable of doing the job. In this system 2 will attack and 1 will sit. They will take turns in doing so. They are mobile enough to do the job. I would experiment with this midfield in December before reaching a decision to get a new CDM in Jan. Also, don't forget, Gerrard's returning in Jan, so we have plenty of options.

Keith YNWA

P.S. I've heard that we may make a move for Poulsen as a replacement for Lucas!

Surely adam would make up half of the '2' in a 4-2-3-1? for me:
Reina
johnson skrtl agger enrique
henderson adam
Bellamy suarez downing/maxi
carroll

Adam has been excellent, no way he will be dropped. He will play CM with Hendo, Maxi right, Downing left.

Gutted about Lucas. Stand out performer. I'm one of those Benitez fans that always thought he was right to persist. Some times even our fans are becoming media led. Again, I'm a Paul Tomkins fan, he always seemed to know the crack with Benitez.

So, Lucas replacement. Someone who would also be a perfect player for our new found style and future seasons. Ever Banega. Perfect!

Other choice would be Javi Martinez. Preference is Banega though. I'm sure you'll all agree!

M'Vila or Sissoko for me. Martinez would cost 35m.

What ever happened to Matuidi Ed? He looked a quality player from the couple of St Et games I saw him in. He was reasonably priced too. {Ed002's Note - He moved to PSG in the sumemr to replace Makelele but has had an injury for a while. He was meant to return last week but I am not so sure that he did.}

i hope we either sign moussa sissoko or loan a quality cdm than pay money for someone like lee cattermole

NZL_Red

Have a funny feeling we won't buy another CM in Jan. If we did I think Kenny would go after McCarthy of Wigan. He can play in a 4-4-2 which Kenny favours.

I pray you're having a laugh about Cattermole, mate.

McSnuggles

AHHH! I read it wrong, I apologize!!

McSnuggles

Yea sorry mate should have been a 'rather than'
NZL_red

If it's a Loan, how about Owen Hargreaves? Not played too much at City but looked good when he did. Specialist DM, who covers ground like Lucas, blocks, intercepts... would still allow room for Henderson, Shelvey, Spearing to stake claims as well.

Richards

Doubt city would loan to us even if we were interested . he is quality though when/if fit

We dont need cahill

I think if Kenny wanted Sissoko we would have got him last window. Henderson will def be in the team somewhere, he wasn't bought as a bench player.

We shud sign a
Striker nd a wing forward n out of these realistic options n the 'dream big buy' options.
ST- realistic options Soldado/eduardo vargas/de jong/sow
big buy-benzema 20-30m as soldado wud b similar.
WF-Honda/Ramirez/Boudebouz/Lucas ocampos/
Big dream-try Hazard/Erikson
BENCH BAKUP-N DYER-5M option frm the bench

Vargas is a fullback/winger not a striker.

Tom. {Ed002's Note - Tom, you are thinking about Juan Manuel Vargas - not Eduado.}
