Ed, how far is Aspas away from being available for selection? Any ideas? Cheers. {Ed001's Note - he is supposed to be back this weekend, though I am not sure if he will be fit to play or not.}

we need 2 wingers and one defensiv midfield_ = lavezii(psg, ), pedro( fc barcelona). and yan m vila ( rubin kazan) this 3 players is class for Liverpool .

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Sounds like a wish list 2 years too early. Maybe Mvila is the only one we could possibly achieve.

Ynwa

Agree0 Disagree0

Giovinco, pastore and fernando reges.

Agree0 Disagree0

M Vila?
What has he done in a poor Russian league? Nothing.

Agree0 Disagree0

M'Villa is all hype, not a player we need.

LFC_ForLife,

where did you hear Sturridege is unfit for Sunday's game? BR has quoted how good he's trained, so where did you read/heard he's not playing?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I had he twisted his ankle during training. will miss the hull game but will be fit next gameweek

So sturridge is out of the game tomz, he hasn't been included in the match day squad, twisted his ancle, his injuries are driving me nuts! Suarez an skrtle also injured in training both are 50/50 to play! Easy game just turned into a hard game.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Where are you getting this from

Agree0 Disagree0

That's a bit of a contradiction to Rodgers press conference. I Would not believe a word where you got that info from. Eds Liverpool trained before Rodgers press conference didn't they? {Ed002's Note - Liverpool train much of the time.}

Agree0 Disagree0

The Guardian has posted the squad sheets and Daniel Sturridge is in for Joe Allen, other than that it is the same team that started the derby .

Agree0 Disagree0

I found it on 3 different articles on the newsnow website, I'm guessing it must of happened after the press conference, all 3 articles showed our match day squad and he isn't init. I hope it's wrong.

Can someone please give me a brief summary on Montoya? Only ever very briefly watched the lad play, so not sure of his qualities/weaknesses etc, so a bit of a breakdown on him would be much appreciated, cheers.

Seen a lot of him over the years for the Spanish Youth sides. It's not quite January just yet, but I'll do a player review on him and a few others who are being heavily linked if you'd like? I'll need a few days as I'm very busy lately but I don't mind pulling one together if people will read it.

YNWAdam

Agree0 Disagree0

Sounds good to me mate! A friend of mine is essentially Rain Man when it comes to football, and says Montoya is the real deal - fantastic at going forward, great tackler and has an uncanny ability at splitting play up with something as simple as a turn of his body.

Interested to hear everybodys thoughts though.

Gigantic IF, but if, if, if, Liverpool win the premier league this season, would Brenden Rogers be the youngest manager to win the PL?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Now, don't do this. Don't even entertain the mere possibility of an inkling of an idea that this could come to pass.
We are doing OK this season because we started with low expectations and didn't make any boasts about where we may end up.
By maintaining this position we, may, just may, finish higher than we all expected.
But let's not speculate in the meantime.

Agree0 Disagree0

Martin his question was basically would Rodgers be the youngest ever manager to win the premier league. He's not trying to suggest we're going to win it

Agree0 Disagree0

Calm yourself right down. just be happy with what's happening and hope we are still in the mix come feb with a few new faces.

Managers that have won the Premier League and age at which they first won it:

Kenny Dalglish (aged 44), Jose Mourinho (aged 42), Arsene Wenger (aged 48), Carlo Ancelotti (aged 50), Alex Ferguson (aged 51) and Roberto Mancini (aged 47/48?).

If (emphasis on the IF for the question) Brendan Rodgers won it this season, he would be the youngest ever at 40, turning 41. He would be the joint youngest with Mourinho - who share the exact same birthday on Jan 26th - if he won it next season I believe, since he would be 42 at the end.

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks for info Jolly Red, that was what I was asking. Funny things you learn on here, 26th January is also my birthday and I have exactly the same age as Rodgers. That cheered me up today (hope its true)

No word of a lie, 26th of January is my birthday too! Though I'm about half your age Red Ace ;)

YNWAdam

Agree0 Disagree0

You are lucky to be half my age Adam, but at least I remember Liverpool winning the league! Ai it were tough back in them days. We lived for three months in a paper bag in a septic tank. We used to have to get up at six in the morning, clean the paper bag, eat a crust of stale bread, go to work down t' mill, fourteen hours a day, week-in week-out, for sixpence a week, and when we got home our Dad would thrash us to sleep wi' his belt.

Between now and the end of the year we have 7 matches. From these 7 matches I feel we need to take 15 points out of a possible 21. If we want a chance of finishing in the top 4 we need to beat Hull, Norwich, West Ham & Cardiff. We are playing Spurs, Chelsea & Man City away, so 3 points from these matches would be ok, so 3 draws or 1 win. Any more points from these games would be a bonus.

So, our target for 31st December is 39 points, which would make us joint 3rd in my predictions.

RedRocket

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I've been thinking on similar lines, but in honesty I think we can go to spurs and Chelsea and get a win in both games.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree but if we take 11 it will not be a disaster because by then we would have played Arsenal, City, Spurs, Everton, Chelsea away. Only leaving utd. Away for second half of season. If, big if, we can get the quality additions and not lose Suarez over Transfer period we'd be in a strong position to push on. All other teams will have European commitments as well.

Agree0 Disagree0

4 or 5 points from chelsea, tottenham and city are ok

Agree0 Disagree0

We haven't beaten 'Ull yet. Concentrate on one game at a time.

Hope we sign a marquee player Jan, as well as cover for some of the positions we have.
Marquee = Mata
RB/LB Cover = Montoya, Bertand
DM Cover = N'Zonzi, Diame etc.
My opinion but can be other suggestions.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Honestly reckon a Jan window of signing Montoya, Konstantinos Mitroglou and one of M'Vila, Fernando or Imbula would be exceptional.
Whilst most importantly keeping hold of what we have except maybe Cissokho. :)

Agree0 Disagree0

For the same money it would take to buy Mata we bought coutinho, sturridge and aspas. and of those three two are in the starting 11.

YNWAdam,

I was reading a few posts on the dodgy rumours page and In reply to your post on the 25th October here is a Liverpool related anagram of Mkhitaryan.

"Hitman Ray K"

Arsenal Hitman Ray Kennedy was Bill Shankly's final signing for Liverpool. Later converted by Bob Paisley from a striker to an attacking midfielder, but nevertheless started his Liverpool career as a striker.

I think that's a pint you owe me ;-)

Red Rum

Not sure if thay follows the rules of an anagram or not, but hats off to you mate! If I knew were your local was, I'd treat you to a few pints ;)

Rum or Bitter? haha

YNWAdam {Ed002's Note - Not bitter, just philosophical.}

29 Nov 2013 12:12:41
I see what you did there Ed!

Now we're on that subject (you've got me started now!), the best philosophical quote of all time (in my opinion) actually came from your native nation:

"Forgive your enemies, but never forget their names"

There is a pint in it for you too if you can tell me who said it without google ;)

YNWAdam {Ed002's Note - It is of course JFK and oft quoted. Like Dylan, people easily read too much in to Kennedy. You might do better to seek out the work of Langston Hughes. "I stay cool, and dig all jive, That's the way I stay alive. My motto, as I live and learn, is Dig and be dug In return."}

I would like to wish both Adam Morgan & Craig Roddan good luck with their respective careers. As much as I would like to have seen them break through our system especially Morgan it was never going to happen. We have exceptional talent throughout our youth set up but unsure who will break through as I believe the leap between u21's and first team is massive. I hope to see at least a handful of the following break through:
Jordan Rossiter
Daniel Trinkett-Smith
Joao Carlos Trexeira
Ryan McLaughlin
Harry Wilson (I am curious how good he is)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Tricket-smith & texiera probably not rossiter & McLaughlin should & Harry Wilson is very good but like all wingers drifts in & out of games but for me has far better shooting and passing ability than sterling & ibe. He could be. a very interesting talent but he's going to have to improve a hell of a lot to be able to 've fighting with those 2 because he's also got Ryan Kent who I prefer to Wilson & if seyi ojo can play like he did against Everton every week he might start to look a great prospect too. With to loan of roddan I'd expect chirivella to be promoted and Morgan Sinclair & yesil to be the strikers for the 21's leaving room for canos to play in the 18s all the stale players that have been shipped out are what was needed

Agree0 Disagree0

Morgan on loan too*

This may come across as a bit of a stupid question, but why do all teams make a wall for free kicks? Surely it creates a target for the taker, and if it goes over the wall at a decent height, often the keeper isn't going to make it, due to the fact that the ball is unsighted for the first 10 yards. It would just be interesting to see how successful the likes of ronaldo, bale, pirlo etc would be if there wasn't a wall, and merely were taking a 25 yard shot.

Maybe managers don't really want to use a wall, but if they don't use one and it backfires, then they fear getting unprecedented amount of stick for it?

Just a thought

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The keeper puts the wall there mate, watch next time.

Agree0 Disagree0

Because it gives the taker less of a target.
also if you introduce a wall the taker will need to apply spin to the ball to make it dip. That will slow down the ball and give the keeper more chance to reach it than if the taker simply ran up fill tilt and lashed it at goal.

Agree0 Disagree0

You know I've always wondered the same. I'm guessing walls for free kicks have been there since football began. It would interesting to see. Maybe not a close free kick say between 18-20 yard but further out sure why not. I like to see that someday just maybe not Liverpool to be the 1st. What about throw-in's they should be abolished! Ball goes out allow 2 yard +/- from where ball goes out. Allowed to hit while moving on the ground only, that could really increase the tempo. Football was revoluntized after the back pass rule. Football as is the name zero hands allowed

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Nov 2013 09:37:03
If there os no wall, then what's the difference between a spot kick and free kick.?

Agree0 Disagree0

I would hazard a guess and say a spot kick is 12 yards out from the centre of a goal with only the keeper to beat and being classed as direct. Whereas a free-kick is a minimum of 18 yards out to possibly 30 yards out where free kick specialists would try their luck all along the 18 yard line and back to maybe the 30 yard distance of the box and can be given both direct and in-direct.

Agree0 Disagree0

Harry,

the difference is 'In a spot-kick no one can interfere except the GK, but in the free-kick there will still be 10 players randomly arranged or in a wall fashion to make it more difficult.'

Agree0 Disagree0

I certainly think the modern day wall set up needs completely re adjusting. The modern boots, ball etc allow for so much curl and dip that at points when you have ronaldo, bale, drogba messi walls are almost negligible.

The original walls would be placed because there was no dip on the ball, and it was simply struck ferociously in an attempt to beat the keeper on his side.
As a former goal keeper myself, I know my preference for a wall set up, but if it was applied in a real football situation people would think WTF! if it goes wrong once you're an person, even if it works the other 99 times.

Agree0 Disagree0

It was actually tried out by a few teams and the result was that the attacking team would place a wall up in front of the keeper. This made it even more difficult for them to see and allowed the free kick taker to hide the shot effectively, when he struck the ball the wall would move out the way.

I don't know about this guys,
Try and take a free kick in your local park this weekend with and without a wall, I'm pretty sure I know which is the harder!

Agree0 Disagree0

For my team we have a 2 man wall. Then 2 men on their shoulders.
