Is this guy Everton are close to signing any good?As there's a reported small medical hitch meaning Everton want to re negotiate fee.If he's quality, how about a sneak and snatch from under job? (Imagine, apart from gaining good player(if indeed he is), that rabid lot would go nuts!lol)

Go do it just for fun off it ! He's decent, be what i've seen.

Somebody was asking What a cheaky bit is ? I bealive this is it. :D

30 Jan 2013 00:32:00
A "cheeky bid".

An envelope with £3 million less than Everton's offer and a signed Heskey shirt.

Jolly Red

30 Jan 2013 01:12:15
Shocking. So waste the money on a nobody for one reason to annoy Everton fans. This is why I hate most other football fans.

Albert

I said IF he's any good Alby. And we've had it done to us enough.Even Harry Rednap was talking about how cut throat getting players In is.So swallow that superior attitude fella

29 Jan 2013 23:17:52
If suarez does leave to bayern in the summer what's the chance of getting either mario gomez of part of the deal or using the money for marco reus?

I would love reus he's a class act! But it wouldn't happen

13reds

If suarez leaves damiao will be his replacementfor about 25million

plus money left for other transfers

29 Jan 2013 23:15:20
Don't worry fellow reds Suarez ain't going anywhere during this January transfer window. That's not to say he might not go in the summer though.

As a bit of fun, if Liverpool recieved an offer in the region of 50 million for Suarez during the summer and Liverpool had the oportunity of using the money on Higuain 25 million and Erikson 25 million how many would of you would go for it?

I certainly would...

Curled1

Hm. Tough call. I'm not totally convinced about Eriksen and Higuain seems off lately. In general, though, I'd take 50M if it could be spent on 2-3 quality players instead.

I'd only think about selling Suarez if they offered at least 65mil

Crowman

29 Jan 2013 23:13:41
Is the an underlining Coutinho problem?Seems to be taking an age

Awaiting decision from the home office! Which I believe will be tomorrow. Fee agreed, personal fees agreed, medical passed, just the final part to the jigsaw to confirm signing.

Ed wouldn't you say Fernando Gago would be a good option in this window. Good enough for Premiership in my opinion. He's not happy at his current club and wants out, so possibly a loan to buy or nominal fee could be agreed.

Would add some steel to the middle of the park and in all honesty I think he would go for the move. Do you know if we have any interest in him?

Jonesred {Ed001's Note - before he spent time out injured he looked an excellent prospect, but he hasn't been the same player since. So no, not for me.}

29 Jan 2013 22:52:46
Eds I note bradly tnt bid for gustavo and my post centre back sent in by anon could there be any truth in either my source says saurez 50 mill ......we need to keep saurez at all costs he is world class no matter wat anon {Ed001's Note - pardon??}

29 Jan 2013 22:47:44
Brendan said this was going to be an important transfer window especially after the dissappointing summer transfer window.

£20m spent so far is good news and shows FSG have the money and will spend it - only time will tell if it was money well spent (how they settle in to life at lfc / how and when Brendan uses them)

Don't think ince will happen - see continho as the alternative to the ince deal after it took too long

But we still need 1 or 2 more additions - priority is a left sided defender and maybe cover for Lucas - don't need to spend too much on these additions (eg £3-5m or on loan
Depending on availability :
Aly Cissoko / fazio / Diame

Never feel comfortable when we go into the last 2 days and deals are not completed
Means one of two things :
- panic buys or
- no buys

is it me or is newcastles sissolo loos a great prospect . kenny wanted to sign him, but to me he looks a bit like yaya toure in midfield, its something we have been crying out for and the oldham game showed how light weight we are in midfield especialy when allen is in our midfield, he cost a fraction of what allen cost, this player who was on our radar for the last couple of seasons we have missed out on, a type of player most of us agree we need, for 2 mil what a bargin and i'm sure he would have come to us, oh well, that's it for me now Br has lost my fait after watching sissoko and with him setting up the 1st goal with a great pass, you can see where the gerrard replacement came from when camolli said it, this player will change newcastles season instead of ours, BR only wants swansea players and I don't want my Liverpool football club to be the swansea of the north west, BR needs to go not because of the results, but because of the players he has signed and his inability not to look past swansea players, we need a manager who knows how to get midfield players who are big, strong and quick, not small can't tackle and gets pushed off the ball easy and to think the money we spent on joe allen, he needs to go back to a small club where these type of players will thrive, we need a big midfielder like diame from west ham, some one of his ilk, all BR want is small players to play nice football who can't handle the rough stuff, he needs to go end of, he has had 2 transfer windows, has he bought anyone over 6 foot , as he bought a midfield general, he thinks he has in joe allen, and our exciting player borini is like watching paint dry, the more time some of you want to give him the more time he will make us a laughing stock and his next signing is going to be frodo baggins, .BR said he's a star in his own country, and he might get bilbo becuae he is the new star of america

mickey b {Ed001's Note - you really are a laughing stock if your whole support is based on signing one player that has been poor all this season, hence why he ended up at Newcastle on the cheap. Sad, but you will be no loss, obviously.}

Living in france I've seen a lot of sissoko and he's been poor for 2 seasons now I've never understood why fans on here kept wanting him to sign I guess it is because they have not seen him play much if at all

I don't agree with Brendon out, but I think we've missed a quality player in sissoko.Commoli has a good record of spotting players that are at early development stage Bale, Taraabt, Clichy and Boateng are proof of this.Just because a player has an average season it doesn't make them a bad player young players don't have the consistency levels of a 26-30 year old.£2.2million is an absolute bargain, ed just remember form is temporary class is permanent.

Fifa 13 is not real.

29 Jan 2013 22:43:25
right I think we all get it that coutinho is all but done, so no need to go on,,,,,

tom ince wants starting place,,, can we offer that, maybe if downing goes!!

i like the sessegnon post, very attacking player,

we need a powerful cb,,,, i'd go for samba,,,

flamini would be good, been in the prem and proven,

scott sinclair is just the same sort of player as raheem and ince really,

in Brendan we trust but he will lose the faith if suarez is allowed to leave,

Hey Eds and Reds. A question not a rumour. Has there been anymore talk or movement with Pacheco going out on loan or permanently moving away. I heard him strongly linked with Leeds at one point aswell as norwich and few championship teams but it all seems to have gone quiet. Personally I like the lad. Just don't know what has gone wrong for him, showed signs of promise a few years back and not had first team chances since. Any idea what's happening Eds? Great site, thanks for the many i've hours wasted on here.

Mart86 {Ed001's Note - I expect him to be sold to be honest.}

29 Jan 2013 22:28:06
We are currently missing players for important squad numbers who would you have realistically I.e not messi 10? Lol

4- chico flores (similar to David Luiz rated!)
6- Raul Garcia (rate highly)
9- michu or oscar cardozo (powerful presence)
10- angel di maria (sick skills)

"Chico Flores"
He's Shocking!

My opinion at present

I'd sack Ince off he's not that great if you ask me. I'd go for someone more established from abroad for around the same price. I think the Coutinho deal is done, great buy if you ask me! This lad has lots of potential. I'm impressed with Sturridge up to now. Borini has a lot more to give I know it he just needs some regular game time. I am pretty happy with the squad at present, although I still believe we lack experience. Youth is great but I think we could do with a mature midfielder & Striker within the squad. I.e- a maxi & a kuyt. I really wanted sneijder :( nevermind. I still rate Cardozo of Benfica very highly I'd take a look at him and Di Maria of R.Madrid.

I'd go for Fernando Gago. Would add steel in the centre of the park.

Diame £3.5 million

Not LFC related but Before the big storm of who's going to sign who would like to just wish MARIO BALLOTELLI good luck in the future great entertainment to us all. Parks his car wherever he wants. Fireworks in his own house. Gives the police officer the truth ' because i'm rich' drives around manchester on deadline day to wind up the journos. Mario Balotelli.

You will be missed

He'll be sorely missed, a real character!

He'll be back as soon as he realises how boring Serie A is.

Anyone else thinking we should do some trade-business with Bayern and Suarez? Like Müller and Gomez/Mandzukic. Would be boost for us.

Are you off your meds? I think your cheese has well and truly slipped of your cracker.

It would be absolutely awful for Liverpool.

29 Jan 2013 21:48:45
I think we should sign a defensive midfielder eg. modibo diakite, as cover for lucas. I think in the summer we should be ambitious and go for top young talents like christian eriksen. We need to put trust in brendan and let him assess overall the squad over the second half of the season, and back ALL new faces. Look at the faith we showed in daniel, and the form he's shown. I don't want coutinho to suffer what lucas did. Any suggestions on defensive midfileders/young talents/others ? Thanksxx

29 Jan 2013 23:23:49
What bwt adilson warken from gremio obviously not many people have heard or seen him bt games bt when I have seen him play his ability to read the game and his tackling is second to none if you get a chance to watch him play you will be saying same as me . {Ed001's Note - bwt? bt? Help me out please, I only understand English sorry.}

29 Jan 2013 21:45:40
I'm astounded at the amount of replies on this site to these stupid Suarez posts.........I thought us Reds were supposed to be intelligent and knowledgable fans !

Agreed. It would appear too many people have already signed Suarez off to the highest bidder...yes, he may move one day but do we really want to / afford to lose him now?

Success will bring loyalty and vice versa....but above all else loyalty from the fans can and will effect players personal opinion...careful what you wish for

Marshy

Obviously not!!

Sorry had a bad day...I'll get me coat!

29 Jan 2013 21:45:23
All these rumours mark my words after coutinho signs that will be it for jan, no1 will leave and no1 will come on, not the best transfer window again for being a red supporter

What, over £20 million spent? What did you expect? I wouldn't like to be at your house Christmas morning.
Rigsby.

29 Jan 2013 18:31:45
Eds your reference to extra bite in midfield and flamini is spot on, any others you think we are or should be looking at. Diami seems the obvious choice after watching him against us and hearing we were interested in the summer and he has a low release clause?
Daniellambretta {Ed001's Note - it would be Medel for me.}

Same old, same old. We just can't help it in England can we ?
Bite. What does that mean ?
You see it all the time when the national team goes to tournaments, supposedly full of 'leaders' and 'bite'.
And then can't get a kick and string two passes together for 90 mins.
Give it up.

Ye I mentioned medel yesterday as well ed001 I think we've spoke about him before, he would be perfect aggressive and tough.

Square tomato {Ed001's Note - I love him as a player, he is like a less card prone version of Mash.}

29 Jan 2013 21:39:12
What is all the fuss about tom ince seriously I guy outshining a team in bottom half of championship you don't need to be champions league quality to do that this premier league is a diff kettle if fish not many people come from champiobship hit ground running

I'm not to keen on Ince but you must remember Alrdige and Rush came from the lower leagues and they didn't do so bad did they.....

mozzilfc

If you have ever watched him. He is lighting, skillful and this season be deadly in and around the box.

Has all the qualities to be top draw, just because he hasn't played in the PL is no reason to say no. Lambert? Holt? Everyone said they couldnt, Last season Holt got more goals than Suarez and Lambert is the top english scorer so far this season.

Ben Rose

Jesus. What.

Eds loving the rumour mill some people have some pretty wild ideas on the signings. Zarate was a top drawer play first 2 seasons with Lazio, bit out of form this season.. You said earlier on "i hope not" could be a cracker on loan for us. Any truth to the interest? {Ed052's Note - I doubt any interest}

29 Jan 2013 21:18:43
As it stands Suarez simply is NOT for sale.
Liverpool would NOT be selling Suarez for anything less than £60 million in the Summer window, IF Liverpool even considered selling the player by then.
Besides, even then he certainly won't be going anywhere in this January window.
As I reiterate, Suarez is NOT available, as it stands Suarez simply is NOT for sale.
Honestly, all these unrealistic figures of £35m or £40m couldn't buy Suarez.
Incidently, before somebody starts guessing, there is no such buy-out clause figure in Suarez's contract, which some like to fantasize about.
Look at it this way, if the flop Torres went for £50m two years ago, and Ronaldo went for much more than that before that, then I do find it most amusing at the silly small figures being banded about on here for Suarez.
Cheers, RedRick.

If city wang Suarez they will get him everyone's got a price and city can aford that price lets just hope they don't get him

Lucky

RedRick! I was feeling very down and anxious over the Suarez exit rumour's! Then I read your post which made me feel calm again and you've put a big smile back on my face! Thank's RedRick!

Talk from london. No they can't!!

Not usually my sort of thing but what about My Coo Ca Choo by Alvin Stardust for a Coutinho song?
-------------------------------------------------
Cou, Cou, Philippe Coutinho
The defender doesn't know which way you'll go
Left or right, we know you will score
I really love my Coutinho.

I love you, yes I love you 'cos you wear the Red
I love you, yes I love you and your curly head
Put on your trainees and your tracky
Grow a moustache and you'll look just like me.
-------------------------------------------------
It needs some work.......

A cringing Rigsby.

You'd need a masters degree to remember that man.short and simple is the way to go. But at least you tried.

Why not start on a better Lucas song first?

Ben Rose

Who wrote this it definitely will never be heard being sung by me or anyone I know in the stands.

Kopping a feel

Shove it up your arse, then.
I'm off to support City instead; I'll be appreciated there and I'm already working on a Suarez song.
Oh, hang on, they drew tonight.
Back to the drawing board, then.

29 Jan 2013 20:57:36
has luis suarez got a release clause? and if he does how much?roger

Not quite sure but this 40m tag seems to rear its head alot. If so I think the club are mindless persons considering the Spanish tend to put ridiculous fee's onto of their players to warn off clubs! Ok he may want to go but then that's upto the club how they want to deal with it but if they've left us tied up we've got to rely on Suarez not wanting to leave A.K.A Daniel Agger.
I mean if Torres was worth 50m then surely play a little hardball in order to give ourselves the best possible chance of securing 3 or 4 top quality players in the summer.

^ NOT FOR SALE! Did you hear that!

Just out of interest Zarate when signed by Lazio, was said to have had a 60 million euro's release clause included in his contract.

LoL, no B.S.

29 Jan 2013 20:41:41
Hi eds
do yous think coutinho deal will be done soon? and if so, do you think he will have any role in Liverpools game at ardenal tomorrow? and what has happened to assaidi? I know youtube can make anyone look good, but from what I saw he looked like a huge talent, with great pace and skills and huge potential, and he looked quite good in the europa league in my opinion. Surely deserves to be ahead of downing? {Ed052's Note - yes. No. He is soon to come home from the ACON.}

Coutinho is in Liverpool landed last night in JL and got in a limo mate took his case to the car..... chazza..

Well F**k them I say, we'll show em who's laughin after we show everyone what we're made of and beat Arsenal tomorrow night,,

Balotelli gone, City will want another top striker, our next game after the window is against City.

Am I the only one concerned at these dots being neatly joined over the next 48 hours?

I am a little concerned but I'm sure BR will resist their ambitions to sign Borini....

Yes you are

Hey eds
do yous think that coutinho deal will be done very soon, ie tonite or early tomorrow? if so do you think he will play any part in tomorrows match at arsenal? and who do yous personally think we will alao bring? ince, a loan, or maybe noone? are the hooper rumours completely gone? And I was just wondering, if west ham stay up, which it looks like they will, do tuey have to buy carroll or do they have an option, and if not, how much for? thanks

Just seen Brendan rodgers buying a load of envelopes! Not sure why! {Ed019's Note - hahaha}

I'm wondering if he really wrote any names in those envelopes.

No names get put in the envelopes.

He'll wait till the end of the season and put the name's in then!

Waro, Pacman and Ozone are in the envelopes. They were the 3 out of a hundred million to fail the Supporters Test

29 Jan 2013 20:33:02
I'm sorry but all this hate on Joe Allen and borini, sorry but we can not say they are not good enough to play for Liverpool, one has been injured the other has at times played out ov place, I'm not saying there are great or even played well, I'm saying there need 2/3 years to judge them and say they not this or that because they both so young still and have shown at times they got talent at there old clubs !! And like I say they both still very young, I'm not saying we should start them both, I'm saying they are Liverpool players and young ones at that a lot to learn in life never mind football let's s not kill them mentally, by putting silly pressure on then after a short time at are club let's help them not destroy them !!! Support are club better before we ask young kids at play better, I'm not happy at are place in league but that's life let's get in real world ! !!!!!!!!! Not sugar coating any thing just think we as supporters are not (all) being fair to are club and are players just give them more time and try and stick together
YNWA Lfc linc

29 Jan 2013 21:14:45
Joe was excellent for 10/15 games despite fans that want to say he could only pass sideways, he's dropped the form but he's still young, 15M is a hard tag to live up to.

Borini hasn't even started his career, until he's had a 7/8 game run we don't know what he is. The scoring record is worrying but his runs and positioning look great, who knows?

Borini definitely has good vision for runs!

Joe Allen has been overplayed in his early career at #LFC.

For 2/3 months he was outstanding, however having played nearly as many games this season as he did last season, his workload has caught up with him and he has looked jaded.

There was plenty of opportunity IMO to rest him when we had Nuri Sahin at the club, but BR decided not to.

Firmly believe Joe will be a good addition for the club, with many great years ahead of him.

RedSG

Allen hasn't had a proper break in a long while, he had the same problem Henderson had, Summer competition prior to his first season after his big move.

Henderson was at the u21 tournament before playing his first game for Liverpool after playing 50 something games for Sunderland. Allen was with team GB at the Olympics for the Summer, he played a lot of games for Swansea that season and then came to us half burned out, just like Henderson was.

Henderson looks a lot better for his rest and progression back into the squad and I think Allen would benefit from the same approach but Rodgers obviously knows Allen better than all of us and has seen more of him play than all of us, so I bow to his judgement, Allen is his midfielder and he's showing him faith.

Borini being away with Italy in the Summer football tournament, as was Henderson for England as well as Gerrard (people moaned about his form, Summer tournaments seem to do this) I think has hindered some of the players.

BoriniCanDoIt.

29 Jan 2013 20:23:48
It states on our website that were in the hunt for Zarate......i hope not as he is as bad at scoring as N'Gog so would be a complete waste of money and playing time that a decent player could benefit from.

Great site Ed's, keep it up :-) {Ed019's Note - Agree}

He operates as a winger, he isn't the striker we saw at Birmingham.

Lazio learned from Zarate's time at Inter that he is tricky on the left wing. He may not be productive as some would like but he'd be a steal for £6 million and I think Rodgers would get the best out of him.

Obviously the ''gossip column'' on the LFC website is to be taken with coarse sea salt like chunky granules. But Zarate could do well with someone like Suarez. Even on loan to easy the burden for Sterling who hasn't been the most productive himself, also in need of rest.

29 Jan 2013 20:17:38
Neymar could come to prem end day of transfers

No chance Neymar will be coming to the EPL. He will stay at his club till summer the probably head to Barca.

FowlerGod.

29 Jan 2013 20:57:21
No chance, more likely Real or Barca.

Jolly Red

Neymar will stay in Brazil until the 2014 World Cup, I reckon.

How many times do you reckon he has to say he is staying in Brazil until after the 2014 Brazil World Cup? He'll break all Liga Do Brasil records by then then go to Barca (Supposedly already agreed a fee and Barca paid 20m last year; Guilleme Ballague is the source)

Ben Rose

29 Jan 2013 20:16:57
How likely is a 1 to 1.5 million deal for Diakite from Lazio, with Coates having problems it seems likely a cheap and viable fairly young defender like Diakite is what we need, and Liverpool have clearly shown interest in the player, do the eds believe a deal will be done in the Jan transfer window?

Have anybody ever watched Diakite ? Men's a complete tool.

29 Jan 2013 20:16:48
We need quality in defence as well of aggressive and Johnson what replacement could be better than Ashley Williams

Ashleigh Williams won't be leaving swansea any time soon. Higher up the league than us and a cup final to play in 4 weeks. Other than his comments about suarez, if you were him would you come?
jaycee

I can name 20.

Swansea are 8th, a place behind Liverpool.

Red Owl

Honestly? I can see us go for both Williams & Vorm in the summer. Both vocal, experienced, decent price compared to departing players like Coates & Reina and on lower wages. Rodgers loves both players and I think they'd do well for us. I'm sure Laudrup would then get 3 cracking replacements for the same money from La Liga.

Hi Eds,

I've just got back from a few days driving to Marseilles and back,, no internet connection or sports radio so can you please give me a breif update (apart from coutinho & ince) on where we stand with the bids. i'd love to search but can't remember the french defenders name from valenciennes or anyone else I've missed whilst away.

Thanks and good luck for the next couple of days!

Hey eds what are the chances of Suso going out on loan, are any clubs interested? With Coutinho now here I see his chances limited and would love if he could get first team football week in week out.

AsianRed {Ed019's Note - Good chance}

Swansea would be perfect for him on loan as part of a deal for williams.. Scouse red

And why would swansea want another midfielder, and they certainly don't won't to lose a central defender. you got to get out of the idea that other clubs just want to help us out with any players we fancy

You think he'll get much game time with michu?

When wenger picked up viera from ac Milan he had hardly played & proved to be an astute acquisition, let's give coutinho a chance eh? Sunday was frustrating be we used to be fair minded.....
Paisley's genius

Yes well said ! We need to give these young players a few years to show if they up to job to 4/5 games and say no good get rid! that why we buying young players that(could) be very good !! Give them them young players 2/3 years each then make ye mind up buying players between 18/23/24 is different to buying 27/30 year old that played at high level for long time they should not need 2/3 years let's lay off the young players all ov them till then !!!

Listen everyone, can we please stop all these silly pathetic rumours that man city are going to bid for Suarez, it's not going to happen and Suarez is happy at Liverpool, I can honestly say that Suarez will be at Liverpool next season, after that if we don't get champs lge footy then he might leave! It's all in our hands! So please stop listening to twitter and rumours etc......

Ack17

Honestly the extremes some folk go to get a bite ... Mate you really have to do better than that, very, very weak indeed.

dd

It's football Ack17, a business where money talks.

I totally agree that Luis Suarez will be a Liverpool player next season. The people linking him with moves away did exactly the same thing last summer.

Red Owl

Totally agree mate why do fans make stories and rumours up about one of our best players leaving, crazy he only just signed a 5 year contract

Torres only recently signed a 5 year deal, and Carroll and Allen who all left within months.

Ben Rose

Sorry Ack17, my reply was meant for someone else... agree with you pal.

dd

People said the same about Torres.

Suarez is staying - until the summer when he will join either Barca, City or Bayern. We will get 35-40m cash or slightly more if the deal involves another player. My prediction and I'll stick to it.

Coutinho songs floating about now. I'm in the opinion a player must EARN a chant. Like I say just my opinion

Completely agree, I think he will be an astute signing but if we want to create a new chant for a player, how about Hendo who has really upped his game recently, I've heard a few chants of "Jordan Henderson, Jordan Jordan Henderson" recently but how about something a bit more imaginative? Just my personal opinion anyway...

I, Partridge

Kuyt, Agger, JOHNSON to name a few without a proper chant imho..

You obvs don't go the game Agger has one mate ! Danny...Danny Agger aaaa ohhh ohh Danny Agger!

Re Agger - Not really a chant, heard that a few times...not much though, wouldn't you agree?

Didn't reply to the Johnson question though? Too busy sitting on your season ticket high horse....

Heard funny one to sae tune we had for Torres about Agger and him smashing Torres across the face-ended with Daniel Agger l'pools no.5

29 Jan 2013 19:30:43
Reina johnson skrtel agger enrique coates gerrard shelvey carra sturridge are all over 6 foot and suarez and downing are just under 6 foot

All of them are big tough lads so i'm not buying this "we're too weak" theory

Just another thing to moan about, stoke are full of giants but won't win anything and will finish below us

Though I do agree it would be handy having a diame an option but the team in general has enough steal

I think Diame would be a good signing though.. It would allow shelvey to go out on loan.. This would be my window:
Sturridge Diame coutinho for 25m..
Coates cole sahin which should ease the wage bill.. Hopefully we will also get a few million for Insua and ince..

They don't always play, though; and some of them didn't feature on Sunday.
It's not just about size either. It's also about aggression and tenacity. Mascherano was very small but would get stuck in and wouldn't have gone missing on Sunday like Sterling did. Coates is a big lad but he didn't stand up and be counted.
Unlike Stoke, we need to get the balance between competing physically and playing good football (and even they are changing that a bit).
We can be soft, at times, physically and mentally, but that depends on the team we put out. It doesn't mean we are like this all the time but we need more depth in both areas.
Rigsby.
Ps. I think Allen does get stuck in, although it's never going to be his forte. I think he gets a bit too much stick for his lack of physicality but he doesn't shirk his responsibility.

Isn't it rediculous how much we pay for the tv package and we do not get to watch Liverpool every week. We should be able to press the red button and choose which ever match we want to watch. I don't understand why we have to stream EPL matches via some American or Austrailian channel!

Match of the day isn't good enough for me!

Red Lee

It's funny that I as an american am able to watch every Liverpool game on fox soccer or espn. Also nesn wich is fsg tv chanel here in new england replays our bpl games a day or two later. It doesn't seem fair to you guys.

I agree lad. I lived in USA for 3 years and a combination of Fox sports andESPN 2 allowed me to watch every LFC game throughout the season!

I have thought that for a long time, why you can't get tv but just pay to get all lfc games. I mean they have match choice every Saturday so all the cameras are there. Do see why it would be that had. Beats having to watch qpr v Sunderland or some of the crap on some weekends.

AFCrushdentillidie

Ri red, Tell me about it! Its not the same streaming the matches. They freeze a lot and you cannot even make out who the players are sometimes. I can't believe that you guys get to watch so many matches over there, and we get bloody highlights!

Red Lee

Always streaming games at home! Only way to watch it! Rubbish only 5-6 games are televised, but nowadays some streams are almost HD like so don't really complain

It's to do with tv rights and the FA policy...

Their argument is if you are able to watch the game on TV, even though you are in a distance reasonable enough to try and go to the game, then fans may just stay at home meaning the clubs lose finance etc...

Hence why Middle east countries and most other countries in the world are provided with the majority of the games that we are not...

Obviously there are fans that would love to go to the game, and live close enough, but it is not possible - Anfield cannot satisfy the demand necessary

At the end of the day its to protect traditional football image and stop tv viewings taking over

When I lived in cape town we used to get prem and fa cup coverage on mnet which is a lot cheaper than sky. media monopoly here is not good

It is by no means 'free' to watch games in America and we are indeed 'real fans' thanks very much, Django.

In America, we have ESPN2 which carries one game a week normally, Fox Soccer, which usually carries around 4 games a weekend, and Fox Soccer Plus which generally has another 4. Occasionally (although rare) LFC is not one of the 8-9 games broadcast here either. In terms of cost, ESPN2 and Fox Soccer are generally part of the 'expanded' selection of channels that you have to pay for as a package (maybe $40 a month or something) and Fox Soccer Plus is a separate add-on for $10-15 a month just for the one channel (which also carries something called 'rugby' half the time).

All of that said, it may well be cheaper here than in England, but you have to remember the law of supply and demand- there is not nearly so much demand in America for EPL games...

RDL

Where do you find the HD streams then? I have tried various sites and can never get decent quality streams!

Red Lee

Hey Django, watch it with the "the yonks get it free over there an the real fans miss out". I've been a fan of LFC for 36 years now, and only the last 17 of them have been over here in the States. I pay for my footy over here, maybe less than you but I still pay and would pay more but it is what it is.

And when I got here first, we had frickin' nothing showing regular footy. I remember drawing straws to see which one of us would go hold the sat dish outside twisting it until a signal was caught and we recorded the game for him to watch later, whilst he was sat out there with a cooler of beer and a radio.

Go the game! {Ed001's Note - not everyone can! We have too small a stadium, for starters, and most people can't afford to go. Pathetic reply that is.}

The idea is that very thing - someone has said they would pay 250 quid a season to see all the games, but the League's thinking is if people did that no one would pay money to go to games.

Move to Australia, pay the $120 odd AUD for Foxtel per month.
Then, you will live in the greatest country in the world, with the hottest chicks, the best weather AND you will see EVERY single Liverpool game LIVE on your box (Premier League ones anyway) as long as you are prepared to wake up at some ungodly hour of the morning. Have not missed a game for years.

FSG want the best for Liverpool FC. They want to bring the team to a world power again. Kenny Dalglish spunked £100 million on average players like Carroll, Downing, Henderson and Adam. Rodgers will do better he just needs time.

Err...Allen, Borini?

Kenny use money in Rush yes. he missuse yes. Br doing same Borini allen so far not showing they are the quality. £10m to £15m we can buy class like Banega, Suasaeta whenever I saw Banega play I wonder why no EPL team want this man. hard working midfielder very near to Gerrard.

hhh

Why are people adamant that Hendo, Downing, Allen and Borini will not come good ? 3 of the 4 were bought for the near future, why not judge them then.
derryred

According to those over-simplified terms, it would be easy to argue that Kenny also signed Luis Suarez and Jose Enrique neither of whom could be described as a waste of money. Luis is no doubt worth at least twice his original fee already. Kenny sold Fernando Torres for £50m too, if you really want to try to score points by claiming that managers are wholly responsible for transfers. Wake up.

im hearing that man city are gona make us abig offer for suarez, ino its people putting 2&2 together & getting 5, now that ballitelli gone to milan, but I've been told if its close to what we got for torres the owners will accept it, but Liverpool don't want arepeat of the carroll situation, & will wait till summer to re-invest the money, hence why rodgers looks like someone just smacked him with a wet fish, he's not happy, he wants david villa, if suarez goes but owners won't budge on buy young up&coming players, alls not rosey at Liverpool

29 Jan 2013 19:04:15
with mancity getting rid of man city, we are worrying that suarez will go, even if the offer is accepted it does not mean he will go, he has just signed a new longer contract, and how many time does he have to come out and say he loves it here, man city could go for falcao or anyone else, but the only reason if suarez does decide to go is because the owners and BR does not buy enough quality, we have been linked more swansea players, if this carries on then I don't want our famous club to be a 2nd hand swansea hand me down,, their striker have put a request in to leave, then we get linked with a big forward in benteke, then ehres ashley williams, for next year and I've been saying for month we will bid for swansea left back, who is ijured at the moment with a broken leg, he's been out all season, I think his name is niel taylor I may be wrong though, but if BR can't look past swansea then that tells me he is not a good manager, he is only buying players he knows, and if he does go in for these players he needs to go, we need a manager like laudrup or rafa who know there's more players than the swansea squad, it concerning me that he is doing this because swansea never won anything, neither did BR for that matter, what is happening to our scouts have they been told to only scout swansea, couthino may have come because lucas told BR about him

mickey b

Or maybe we will go after taylor because he was prob 2nd best lb in the league last season for me. beat by baines. a lot will depend on enriques rest of season, he seems very injury pron.

If I was a Manager and thank god I'm not but if I had Tevez, Dzeko and Aguero to choose from every week the last thing I'd be doing is buying another striker. I don't like slagging off other clubs as I don't see that I have the right but Man City think the PL is Champo Manager. Offering money for Suarez true or not will be a joke. What's wrong with the strikers they've got?

Hi eds firstly well done for the great job you all do on this site, Liverpool have struggled this season against strong physical players, if we could get maybe Benteke Diame and Ashley Williams in the summer and also a good LB, we wouldn't be far off challenging for top four possible even for the league. We would have a great mix of pace strength and craft in the team which would cause most teams problems.

Im happy enough with coutinho coming in looks a good talent! Apart from Gerrard ofcourse I'm concerned we don't have enough physical players in the middle of the park! Allen to me hasn't been great same goes for Henderson( is improving) and Lucas had his injury problems! Compare them with the days of alonso Gerrard and mascherano and you can see we are severely lacking physical and talented midfielders! Eds are we looking to add to this area now or in the summer? Do you agree it's an area of the team that needs looking at?Also do you think we will be adding on deadline day? {Ed052's Note - there is a chance of one more, after Coutinho, but its not very likely. James Hallam

Mate, silly question, too hypothetical to answer...and don't even mention Suarez leaving!!!

Realistically we won't get Higuain or Cavani, so I would go for somebody like a Martinez or Negredo. Trouble is they are approaching 26/27 years old so FSG won't go near them.

Leandro Damiao although our transfer market nemesis Spurs really want him too.

If FSG do accept a bid for Luis then they really have not got a clue! How can we sell our best player right in the middle of the season! There would be uproar!

If we got offered 50 million plus I think we would take it, would be sorry to see him go, but can you imagine if he scored the winner for city on the last day of season to clinch title for city, the look on fergies face would be a small consolation.rob b

With Balotelli off to Milan imminently are City likely to come knocking re: Suarez. (Or would they be looking at the likes of Falcao, Cavani and Higuain

If they did, what price would you expect Liverpool to sell at, and would they take the more prudent route of keeping the money until the Summer rather than have the Andy Carroll scenario manifest itself once more.

All of a sudden, the window can't close soon enough.

Not that I want him to go but if torres was 50mil Saurez must be half again ?

to all those saying Ince after coutinho would make perfect window, what would Ince add to the first team that we don't already have ? lot of options uptop & the No.10 role now with sturridge, suarez, downing, borini, sterling,
assaidi, suso if needed and coutinho ..
We desperately need a quality versatile defensive player ..someone like vertonghen covering cb, lb and when required holding mid with lucas..
Ideally a left footed defensive player and a forward on loan would be great..

Maybe Tim Ream of Bolton?, probably not for DM, but a decent player nontheless

lfc transfer targets are splashed all over media think someone leeks info to them look at efc bang straight in for a player under the radar deal done and dusted that's they way to do transfers i'm sick of our club being given the run around by agents and other selling clubs we are lfc take no crap from them move on to our next target if they take the piss

More like media guessing targets than them all being actual targets. Lfc would generate higher media interest than Efc their not under the radar. All else i'd agree.

Eds something has been bugging me, given the ''apparent'' interest from Man United, swansea, Reading in Ince as well as Liverpool's. Surely one of them should have purchased the player by now. It's perplexing UTD paid £10 million for zaha when Ince was cheaper and going by stats, a better player.
Given that he will likely cost less in the summer given his 1 year left on contract I have a sneaking suspicion that something has already been signed. utd, swanseas and readings interest hasn't really been stepped up. Also with Maccas views I believe we may already have signed the player but for some reason we are playing games or maybe we have loaned him back to the end of the season.

12m with 3m in add-ons is the figure for Zaha.

We would hands down if he signed be getting a better not complete but a lot more complete then Zaha.

Look you're overlooking that Ince played for a strong Blackpool side whilst Palace weren't strong until this season.

Hello! This is not transfer related, just a thought really.
We are a club but more like a family with traditions going back many years now. We have triumphed and we have failed, we have gained new generations and lost many too. I was only born the year of hillsborough and don't live near the ground but listening to others stories of experiences and attending games myself has always made me love and support the family more and more.
Finally I have managed to take my boys to a game recently and I realised something before the game. We will always remember the fans of hillsborough and celebrate the love and support they showed. What I'm getting at is that we always without fail, sing YNWA before a game at anfield but I think we should always sing the justice tribute too. What does people think and how can we raise this to the club?

Brendan clearly prefers small, nippy and light weight players that fit his tippy tappy football philosophy. Unfortunately to be successful in the premiership you need a blend of power, pace, skill and strength. It's no coincidence that we've struggled this season against physical sides like Stoke and Oldham. Unless there is a miracle in the next couple of days the focus in the summer needs to be on power and strength. The scouting team need to be scouring the world for strong, powerful players who can go toe to toe with teams who rely on brute force alone to win matches. Only when we have the right blend of power, pace, skill and strength in the squad can we hope to compete for the top 4.

I have to agree we get bullied out of games these days it wouldn't happen with masch and alonso in the side !!

Coutinho hasn't even completed his deal and already people are moaning and slating him just like you did with Sturridge. He might not be who everyone wanted, but it's who we have got. So be proper fans and get behind the lad.

Bristol Red

There will be up's and down's but our club is heading in the right direction. Get behind any player willing to take on the task. We are Liverpool, the best club in the world, our day will come. You work better with encouragement, so whatever happens, shout loud and proud. Become the twelfth man again. Always remember, where ever you are from, what ever you do, unite in the one goal of making us great again. Remember we will Never Walk Alone.

Got a bad feeling city will bid for Suarez

So what if they do??

I think they ve signed higuain

Couldnt afford him

If it HAD to be then we would accept £50m plus Micah Richards

Puzzled

If they do, then we will see how loyal he is or whether he would like to go.If he's prepared to go in january it would'nt bode well for the summer would it?

We only want commitment, if he stays that's fantastic. If he moves on we look for commitment from somewhere else and hopefully make the most of the profit we have made.

With Balotelli moving to Milan, do you think Man City will try to snatch Suarez of us in the closing days of the window as a replacement? don't see City selling and not replacing

Balotelli agrees AC Milan deal
Mario Balotelli has agreed a four-and-a-half year deal at AC Milan.

Although Sky have reported this, it seems also that they later reported that Juventus are looking to speak to the player as well.

So I don't quite know.

Yes but you won't necessarily have the same joy - they will be far more physical than we were. Good luck

Yes, as I don't think you can play any other way. your problem will be that Everton know how to play against physical teams and are in fact a physical team themselves - unfortunately I think you's are destined to lose.

Ed 01 honestly?
Does Brendan Rodgers worry you? You are an admirer of Biesla who is a real deep thinker and has a philosophy of the game.

Rodgers to me talks about philosophy but he is a modern sales manager who uses sound bites and cliche. I just don't think he has any real vision and I fear he will be a growing problem for us If we want to progress.

I feel the job at Liverpool is nearly impossible now for a number of reasons but chiefly expectation and preasure.

So my question to you is do you have faith in Rodgers? I hate being negative but I don't get him and don't have faith in his ability.

PS I really wanted him to suceed as a fellow Irish man.

PPS Maybe FSG should scout coaches in Glenbuck GOD KNOWS that's WHAT WE NEED NOW {Ed001's Note - I will wait and judge him when he has had time to prove himself, not part way through his first season.}

Doesn't sound like you hate being negative at all. In fact you seem really suited to it.

My first clue was that you're negatively judging a manager after only half a season.

Hi eds and fellow reds

I am trying to get my head around the interviews and what stevie BR and Suarez have said with regards to getting experienced players and I am sure everyone on this site would agree.

So my question is why are we messing around with someone who can't get in the team at inter and not get a more experienced player?

Thoughts please

Red H

Because neither Suarez or Gerrard or manager and so, despite having opinions on things, have no actual bearing on any decision the board and club itself is making - and neither should they.

Suarez to sign for Manchester City on deadline day for £50 million. His debut to be vs Liverpool. He will start and Liverpool will win 1-0 away. Sound familiar ? DBol

But the thing is Suarez will shine in virtually any team in the world, unlike a certain someone

But Liverpool won't sell a player for 50m on deadline day unless he's crocked

29 Jan 2013 16:09:22
Hi eds, hope you're all having a good day.

Just a question for ed001 if possible. I'm a little curious as to whether the coaching staff at Liverpool may be starting to wonder if Kelly has a future at LFC. With wisdom fitting in so easily with the first team and being a consistent performer and Kelly being injured for most of the season every year, do you think they might consider moving him on?

i think he is an outstanding player but injuries are clearly a big problem.

Nevada {Ed001's Note - no, unless he doesn't sign a new contract.}

Any1 else noticed that firstrowsports is not what it used to be, I get way too many popups and adverts.
Last time I was watching with my old fella and a huge
pair of breasts popped up. The old man is nearly 80 and it almost gave him a heart attack.

Google chrome adblock

Put it in full screen once the video starts, the ads don't get in the way then

The adverts are reflected by what you've been searching through on Google.

No one to blame buddy, not accept your own like for boobs. :)

Ha ha man that's hilarious, I know I shudnt laugh but that's golden.

It has had that number of ads for years mate. About ten ads to cross before you can even view the video as well as the 10 windows that pop up.

Terrible site to be honest but the best since ATDHE shut :(

When it first starts up, close pops ups slowly and when you've got rid of the last one, go full screen before they all start again. Once in full screen you don't get them.

Alonso on LFC Tv just know giving an interview, Its probuly an old one but what a true gent of a man. You can still see how much he loves the club, he talks with passion and love. Just should you on it in his last season when Rafa wanted him out for Barry what was he thinking?

Alonso is a legend for myself and what I would give to see him back at the mighty Liverpool. Seeing the pics of him lifting the cup in Istanbul sent shivers down the old spine!! Any way lets all pull together and get these nights back. I used to love this site but I can't stand the womanly reactions after we get beat now its chringe worthy. My feeling is half these persons mesg in arent fans, but just mere trolls that haven't got anything eles to post. Ozone and waro yous to make my day most days with the BR and FSG bashing. I read all your post Ozone and your love towards the King is a wee bit worrying lol its verging on facsation. You got a wee fancy for the King there Ozone? haha.

All joking aside i'm not one bit worried about getting beat at the weekend, cause as I have said all year a good beat like that can be the making of a team. You may say i'm mad but I do see the bigger pic.

BR is learning, the team is learning, FSG are learning Its maybe time a lot of fans started bloody learning. Its going take time and we live in a time in life when time isn't really a thing we like to give. But what other options are out there? We owe FSG alot, they saved the club and have spent a lot of money. I here some fans on here throwing millions around as if its milk tokens or monopoly money. Get in the real world, a world that's in major recession and quite frankly is on its ass. So to all the moaning fans out there that just love to come on here when we get bet to voice your opinion please stop boring the life out the lot of us and the eds. We never here from yous when we win or do good, after the Norwich game Ozone and Waro were posted missing where was your opinion that day lads?

So on to tmrw night lets get into these wimps and stand up and be counted, the fans stand up and be counted. We can beat the Gonners and as ed o52 said the other night we can finish above them in the league. I've stuck a hundred quid on the mighty Liverpool at 7/1 to finish top 4 that's how confident I am. It's funny, until about November 2008, when it became plain that Alonso was having his best season for us, a lot of Liverpool fans agreed with Rafa's attempts to replace Alonso with Barry over the summer. Alonso was 'out of form' the previous season apparently.

Few would admit that now, of course.

I think if Carra plays Wednesday night (and he must be musn't he or why oh why didn't he play at Oldham?) anyway, should he play I think a new song we should sing would be Coldplays 'Paradise' only; 'Carra Carra, Carradise, Carra Carra, Carradise, wow oh oh oh wow oh oh oh' (and repeat) - this just came to me in the gym - I think it should catch on.

Belfast Pete

Lost me at 'Coldplay'

And I think we should sing Coldplay's 'Yellow' for Coates, ha ha.
Rigsby.

A bit depressing though lad.

I prefer 'we all dream of a team of Carraghers' as it's much more enthusiastic.

Anyway, many people wanted him dropping from the squad yet now call for him to be re-considered as a first eleven starter.

The word 'fickle' comes to mind.

Sounds too much like Allardyce - Carra deserves better than that fat slob.

hi eds

when and what time does the transfer window close in england eds?? {Ed001's Note - 11pm Thursday night.}

29 Jan 2013 15:41:28
I don't expect another signing after Coutinho unless Coates leaves on loan or is sold, only then will a replacement be sought. I'm not in the know by the way, just what I feel. In all respect, Ince could still happen as Macca and others have said. Wether its loaning him back to Blackpool until the summer or an immediate transfer.
I know the summer transfer window is a long way off but these positions would need to be strengthened imo.
Goal keeper (No.1), Left back, Centre back, Right winger.
I'd be happy with either Begovic or the highly rated keepers in the Bundesliga like Trapp or Leno.
Centre back I'm not sure about but Micah Richards perhaps?
Don't really know who to get for Left back either as he'd have to play second fiddle to Enrique.
Id love it if we got someone like Sanchez or Rodriguez from Porto for Right winger.
If extra funds would be available then a long term replacement for Gerrard in the mould of Eriksson.
WOW haha.
Heres to dreaming :)
Thats just me, Rodgers is obviously more knowledgeable in regards to what players would be willing to join us in the position we're in or who we'd be able to afford.
RedSox69

Believe it or no, the summer is not a long way off, it's less than six months away.

So that vague retort that ''the summer is a long way away'' is actually a continued lie, in my opinion.

Rodgers stated if we don't get the reinforcements now, then we'll look again at getting them in the Summer.

29 Jan 2013 15:35:31
Coutinho now at Melwood.

Now lets get Ince in the bag and this isn't a bad window.

29 Jan 2013 15:35:11
A little insight into Coutinho. Inter loaned him out last season to Espanyol. This season has not featured much in the first team at Inter. He is very slight in build. He has yet to produce any decent form which made Inter buy him. And we are going to pay £8.5m for him. (Note: Inter DO NOT get rid of good young players.)

And your point is what ? Your an expert now are you ?

Great, another light weight in midfield

Santon, Ballotelli are both in the Italian set up. So being both of Inter at one time, i'd say maybe Inter do once in a while let a talented young player leave.

Coutinho has been overlooked during his time at Inter, Benitez said he was the future of Inter then Benitez got sacked.

My God it starts already will ya give the lad a chance to sign and maybe a few months to bed in before you start with the negativity, what has happened to Liverpool fans?

To the tune of Poor Leno by Royksopp,

(you know it even if you think you don't!)

Coutinho,
Where you from? Vasco
Score a cracking goal
Dribble on, Coutinho......

Haunting little melody, I don't know who picks out the tunes for players songs or if its just by chance after a loss, too many beers and an ear bashing from the wife?

Perhaps it's just my taste that is poor....anyway....

Big believer in showing support through thick and thin and a player must feel great to hear his name sang by the fans...maybe under performing players need the attention of (tuneful)vocal support instead of the keyboard bashing hating?

All good fun, cheers

Any chance of us having a look at Dean Bouzanis again or are we still keeping tabs on him ?....He has got talent and is a similar type of keeper to Reina....I think he'd jump at a chance to come back Liverpool. Probably not during this window but in the summer maybe.

Surely we could be interested at that price eds, he knows where the goal is, fair enough he is approaching 30 I think, but if Lyon are willing to let him go for under £8m would be good business, and before you say I know we cannot go for every available player but at that price I thought it might be worth it so just askd your opinion.

Just wondering how Shelvey fits in to our team with Coutinho likely joining? Anyone have any info on that? Personally I think he's been under used and should be starting in the midfield. He has creativity and vision going forward. Puts the occational screamer toward goal but he is young. Is there any reason that he isn't playing more? I rate him over downing (useless for me, I can't understand how he's getting to much time), Henderson ( who shows some promise finally...), and Allen ( who I like but seems a little burnt out, he should be given a rest for a few weeks along with sterling).

Sterling on Gerrard.

''Steven Gerrard has been great. I'm really grateful for the way in which he's looked out for me. Ever since I broke into the team he's been there and I can only learn off people like him and Luis Suarez. At first Stevie used to give me advice about confidence and how it was important not to get intimidated by the crowd. Now he stresses to me the importance of producing the goods and he's keen for me to always play to the best of my ability. It's motivation really and to hear him say that the team needs me is obviously really inspiring. It's brilliant that he's watching over me and really seems to want me to do well.''

Am I being cynical or Is BR preparing the fans for putting him in the team.

Allen is a very honest player and in interviews he is just as honest when being critical of his own game.

i think lfc need to take a long hard look at what they really want to do to go foward. I can see what the owners would like to do but lets face facts on the pitch it is not working the way it should be. we have spent a lot on players past and prestent. so fairness fsg will spend money. the players lfc have brought in have not been all that great give and take a few. we are fallen behide by a great amount. we will not get 4th place as much as I would love us to but that just is not going to happen. iam sorry but it is true. we are just not good enough. iam honenst and will say I think br is not the right manger to take lfc foward. the job is 2 or 3 years to early for him but he is the manger and I surpport lfc so I will back him. iam all for bringing young guns through but I think two or three a season and that's including cup games. don't really get how br can have a go at them and put the blame all on them for sundays result. he never said one thing about older players. I think he really needs to buy players that are going to make diffrents. iam worried that buying all the younger players is going to stop us from pushing on. people say give him a few seasons. iam sorry but I really can't see the Liverpool fans waiting that long.

So the Liverpool fans can't wait? so then what they are going to switch to another club to support? I thought it was red through and through. What kind of Liverpool fan are you?

The Geordies have bought an excellent established centre half in Mbiwa and an excellent established midfielder in Sissoko for the combined price we have paid Inter for the 'promising' Coutinho. Just sums our transfer policy up at the moment.
Coutinho and Allen are really going to scare the premiership.

You know nothing about couthino do you mate

Oh stop winging we can't buy every single player. Sissokos form near the end of his Toulouse career was hardly brilliant and Mbiwa has not been able to capture anywhere near his form last year

29 Jan 2013 13:14:29
We need at least 1 CB in the same mould as Hyppia, I can't remember many forwards getting the better of him in the air, we need someone like him who can run quick, then that would be the perfect CB for me.

Kelly will be world class but i'm suspect over his fitness issues really, always on the crock table so the jurys out with him.

Skyrtle hasn't been that good for a few seasons now, positionaly inept and can only hold onto an attacker, can't jump to head a ball to save his life on a one on one situ.

Midfield we defo need another SG, someone with bottle and bite, in the souness mould of old, these guys we have now may come good but way to lightweight to all be playing together, mix and match springs to mind.

Lucas is ok but we still need someone to hold the ball and dictate play, we are to easily bossed in midfield now and it was a Liverpool strength in the hey day.

Agger for me is to lightweight also, injurys persist, maybe he would be better just in front of the back 4, a bit of a Hansen but without the defensive priority and let Lucas roam, i'd also play Wisdom at CB sometimes as he was great in the ressies.

Carra is a legend but i'm afraid he's past his best, don't get me wrong he's still a good CB but not one i'd start with week in week out, he never had legs but they are worse now, shame.

Brendan should address these issues in this window regardless, at least CB (maybe2) and 1 snarler in midfield who can boss play.

Up top I think were not far away if i'm honest, the goalie situ will need addressing sooner rather than later, poor ol Pepe has lost the plot a bit I think, for whatever reasons he's just not at the races anymore.

Hopefully in the summer with a bit more cash we can address the wing situ and maybe 1 more class CF, but we are desperately inadequate at the back and midfield at this moment in time.

Im sure players were available in this window but we have dillied and dallied to long and missed the boat again I think to address these points, i'm not sure about Coutino if i'm honest, I don't think he's the right build to asssert himself in the middle, I hope i'm wrong I really do.

Its all well and good playing great football with smaller lighter younger players, but we have no steel apart from SG and JC and they are coming to the end of careers.

I can see it, most of you can see it, so why can't the management? I don't profess to be a footy manager but after watching the present and past sides, its so obvious what's missing to me.

O well ill wait for all the abuse to come my way but I think deep down most sensible fans no our shortcomings this season, but like a trooper ill support the owners, the manager and players 100%.

I just hope they act upon what has become as clear as black and white and day and night.

Scouse Red

Agree in principle, but we have already spent 20 million so we can't expect the owners to cough up too much more....at the start of the window everyone would agree that we were lacking in attack, which we have now rectified.

Yes we need to look at signing a commanding centre back and also look at the keeper situation, but realistically these will have to wait until the summer.

I believe one bit of business we should look to do is Diame, 3.5mil is a snip and could add the necessary steal to midfield against the more physical teams

29 Jan 2013 13:14:07
In my opinion, you guys don't have to agree but we have been far too reliant on 2 players in the first half of the season.

Gerrard & Suarez.

The top end stats for goals and assists look good as Suarez is second top goalscorer in the league with 16 goals and Gerrard is second top asssist leader with 8.

But, if you start to look further down the list, you will notice our second top scorer in the PL is Gerrard with 5 and a few others players on 2 in the PL this season.

Same with assists, our second top assister is Suarez with 3, along with a couple of others on 3/2.

At the top end of the field for the first half of the season we have been far too reliant on these 2. Other players haven't in my opinion stepped up and chipped in with assists and goals.

Man United, City, Arsenal, Chelsea... If we are to compare ourselves with the top 4 then you will notice they have goals from all over the field and that's the difference.

But now.. the signing of Daniel Sturridge who has already proved to know where the goal is and the possible signing of Tom ince who is the top assist leader in the championship and has noctched home a respectable 13 goals this year and if this Coutinho fella can ship in aswell then this will surely help the team

We are apparently having a horrendous season but are only 4 points behind Evertons un-believable season!? There is still a lot to play form in terms of the league and we are also in the Europa League knock out stages, so lets not get too negged out! What happened against Oldham has happened and I think it will be a lesson learned by Rodgers to start with his strongest 11 every game, then if were a few goals up bring the kids on and give the seniors a early bath!

So to my original point as i'm Blabbling on. With these 3 additions and the goals/assists they (with abit of luck) will bring in a red shirt, then we have every chance of securing a 5tth/4th place finish and maybe even a run in the Europa League which I believe would be progress from last year.

Just had a pint with Coutinho in O'Neills on Hannover Street. Sound lad. Decent English. Says he is really happy to join Liverpool.

29 Jan 2013 13:12:43
Blackpool have said they refuse to sell ince to reading but does that mean Liverpool?

No and it could mean neither and personally I think that's okay cause potentially we can save a bunch of cash and sign him in the summer window for free. Why not huh?

29 Jan 2013 13:11:45
Surely it is evident that we need a powerhouse of some sort through the spine of the team and the fact Newcastle got Sissoko for around £2M, is slightly annoying and makes me think Rodgers will not sign this type of player. Sturridge and possibly Coutinho with Ince, this after Allen and Borini, not sure we have to just sign this these type of players.

Potzy.

What about we put in a bid for Andy Carroll?

He apparently wanted to go to Newcastle and with their current influx of French players, I think it's understandable.

For £2 million you better believe their is a release fee in that contract, much like Ba had before moving to Chelsea.

BoriniCanDoIt.

More evident to me we need some decent loyal fans!

29 Jan 2013 13:11:36
looks like Brian McDermott's had his answer regarding his interest in Tom Ince as Reading have withdrawn their offer after Blackpool refused to sell the England Under 21 international winger.

tv

Reading has made an offer to sign Blackman as a back up option for a striker.

29 Jan 2013 13:09:51
This Coutinho sounds like the sort of player we do not need at all. Has Rodgers actually been to see him play? - I guess not because he cannot get his game for Inter.

He played pretty well at Espanyol and tbh he was signed at 16 and its hard for anyone to get game time ahead of the likes of sneijder. His career really has stalled at the moment but who knows with the right coaching Liverpool could be getting a gem of a player. Not to mention we have some of the best youth coaches in our academy who I trust can sort him out good a proper but lets wait and see.

Funny, Coutinho scored twice in 9 games for Inter this Season. So he must have played some part, also he's nursing a knock at present although not meant to be that bad.

No doubt he's been underused at Inter, so it makes sense that he wants to leave and play for us.

29 Jan 2013 13:04:28
7m bid from Reading for Tom Ince rejected.

29 Jan 2013 13:03:39
Oh my god! Here we go again! I hear we are signing Coutinho from Inter for 8.5m. I wanted to know a bit more about this player and I wish I had not. He was that good at Inter last season that they loaned him out to Espanyol! An Italian sports writer states that 'He only shows flashed of brilliance and has not lived up to his potential, he is frail and the English game will definately not suit him'. Just what I want to hear, and by the way Inter do not let good young players leave.

29 Jan 2013 16:53:16
one thing is clear...inter don't rate him and rate paulinho 15 mill more than countinho 9 mill...
cant understand why don't we bid paulinho...??

"His potential"
I am sure that BR can bring this on, as he has done for Henderson, Suso, Sterling.
FFs give the lad a chance, he probably won't start every game from now till the end of the season.
As long as when he does start he puts in the effort and improves game upon game we may get a good player.
Stop crying...

Phooey...

Like you'd know more

Inter like any other italian club will let any player leave for the right price. The coaches at inter did feel that Coutinho hada future there and praised his attitude, work rate and skill. don't judge too early.

Nevada

Balotelli? Santon? Castaignos? They're what I would call, good young players. Give the lad a chance, he cost 4m at 16, he must have the talent!

Actually, the second half of the season he was on loan at Espanyol and was brilliant, started this season very brightly but has become tired of the management sitting him whether he does well or not.

Inter do let their young players leave when their players want to leave because they do not like being there anymore, and after some minor injury problems he has lost the support of the crowd (probably because he arrived in such a fanfare) which greatly upset him.

He is not frail, he is quite small but has excellent balance and overall is a very tricky forward player who has what he needs to be brilliant. Has BR seen him play - have YOU seen him play, or are you just going off a report written by an Inter fan resigned to losing him?

Yes but also inter are cash strapped and they need money to fund a move for a replacement for Sneijder whilst coutinho has potential and bags of quality he couldn't get a start ahead of Sneijder for obvious reasons.

They let Mario Ballotelli leave and he's Italy's leading striker. So it's very subjective.

Whilst Coutinho has great ability it's finding a system the best utilises his ability. At Inter it's not been tailor made to suit him in any way.

So he's leaving Inter at the age of 20, and he's not scared of the Premier League challenge that awaits him.

Does anyone else feel a bit sorry for Brendan? It reminds me of a kid that keeps getting let down by parents who promise but don't deliver.

When I heard him same hope for some more additions before the end of the window, we need one or two more, thin squad etc hope another one or two etc.

Doesn't he remember the summer? These one or two won't happen Bren mate, sorry to burst your bubble but FSG are playing the FFP rule years early, even though they are not destined for the EPL. You are the poor kid at a rich school and you will not have the extra players you need or have been promised.

We're doing a poor job of playing to FFP rules then. Pretty sure we're one of the top violators the last few seasons (and likely this one as well) whose expenses are outstripping their revenues.

RDL

Its like being promised a bike at Christmas but getting a scooter

How many times do you need to be told? Suarez, 22 million. Carroll, 35 million. Henderson, 16 million. Adam, 6 million. Downing, 19 million. Coates, 6 million. Borini, 12 million. Allen, 15 million. Assaidi, 3 million. Sahin, 5 million for 6 months. Sturridge, 12 million. Potentially 8 million on Coutiniho and 6 on Ince. I'm pretty sure that since FSG have come in, Liverpool have spent more money on transfers than anyone bar Chelsea, City, Madrid and maybe United.
They've covered massive losses on top of this and are continuing to do so.
There's only been one major out in this time in the form of Torres.
You're the kind of fan that would complain if we bought Falcao because we didn't buy Messi.
FSG are brilliant owners and deserve more respect from the fans of a club that they saved and are attempting to resurrect.
Daniel YNWA

FFP is implimented across all UEFA countries - that means EPL as well. However, we've shipped Cole (and some youth players) and will have brought in 2 of our 3 confirmed targets - not brilliant but hardly an utter let down

Hi Ed's

do you think Coutihno could make an appearance tomorow against Arsenal?
thanks {Ed001's Note - maybe as a sub, depending on how the game goes.}

Not a chance really. I think BR would rather see him on the training pitch 1st before throwing him in the deep end. Except him to be in stands tho.

FowlerGod.

29 Jan 2013 12:49:32
HI Eds, are there any quality defenders available in the summer that we would have a realistic chance of signing, it's just if Skrtel leaves who would we look to replace him with? Would appreciate a reply.

29 Jan 2013 12:43:07
Have to get this off my chest after the FA Cup exit.
Rodgers played a makeshift back 4 whilst playing a 424 system which is Amatuerish management in my book.
The lads in the back 4 (back 4 plays as a unit and not as individuals, can't just throw 4 new faces together) have come in for heavy criticism even from the manager who exposed them to an horrendous team set up and tactics.
I've always backed Rodgers but on this occasion and I refuse to back him. I have not and will not criticise any of the players.
Rodgers still has a job to do and I do think were heading in the right direction but I am a socialist/unionist at heart and I hate management at any level blaming the workforce for their cock ups.
So Brendan time to man up and learn from "Your Mistakes"
The Emirates Wednesday would be a good place to start.

kidmillions

ps: Get off the players backs people, ( I think we've got the best bunch of players we've had for a long time) there guided and coached by the Management who on this occasion got it wrong but hey! chit happens!.

Well said, kidmillions! BR slagging off the younger players through the press is terrible management and shows he can't take the pressure. He has been at the club for a while now and should know the ability and character of the players. The selection was his, so he should have the guts to take the flack. If he has criticism for individuals he should speak to them PRIVATELY.
If some of those players now get annoyed and end up wanting to leave I suspect it might be a hard job for BR to convince the owners to give him money to bring in replacements.

So we have the best bunch of players for a long time. Henderson? Downing? Allen? Coates? Borini? Robinson? and to come back Carroll?

Absolutely agree but one thing I've noticed about Rodgers since coming to Anfield, yes he makes mistakes but he learns from them.

Your post are always a good read mate, you understand where were at and where were going good read. YNWA

Scottybhoy 1888

I agree that the tinkering and odd back 4 was a contributing factor for the weekend's result.

Another symptom of how premier league clubs field weakened sides and then slip up on the proverbial banana skin. Happens to lots of clubs and it's apparently our turn.

But how he fielded that side after his comments on Radio Merseyside in the week baffled me. He mentioned how the league cup was a chance for him to play youngsters (not befitting of a a team defending that trophy, but hey-ho) BUT for the FA Cup competition he made strong statements about how he wanted to make sure they competed and took this trophy seriously.

I'm normally a fan of the way BR handles the media and his cringey comments aren't normally that bad, but this hypocrisy was a bit hard to take. I heard that and thought 'great, we're going to field a strong XI and put on a show' then heard the lineup and my heart sank.

I know the players should have performed better but an unfamiliar back 4, a keeper with low run of games and all our attacking eggs in one basket clearly didn't work.

blaming the youth players (as deservedly some like coates, sterling & robinson) in that game was only half the problem. putting a weak side out by BR was chiefly to blame.

Overall agree but both partially culpable

This is where I am torn.

If I don't sell any caravans in work this week who would get the blame, me or my sales manager. Most definately me and I would accept the blame becuase its down to me to deliver in my job.

3 players in particular really stoood out for all the wrong reasons on Sunday.

- Robinson
- Jones
- Coates

All of which, played in their natural positions and all of which are out there doing the job they are being generously paid to do. They didn't perform in their work so for me they deserve the blame along with other mediocre performances.

For me, it looked like they had already won the game in their head before the whistle blew, they under estimated their oponents. I can't imagine for one second BR saying "this will be a easy game" to his players. They would have been pre warned about the potential upset this game poses.

He can only say, advise and gee up his players so much before a game and if the fact that playing for Liverpool Football Club and being on big amounts of money isn't enough to 'gee them up' before a game, then it says a lot about the players character.

Now, i'm not saying BR isn't to blame because as a manager your responsible, as you say for picking the team and the team he picked didn't win. i'm a believer in starting your best 11 in every game though to give yourself the best possible chance or winning. If you then go a couple of goals up, rest some of your key players and give some squad/youth players a run out. So for me, I know what your saying about BR being to blame in some respects, but all in all I think everyone should take a bite of the blame!

Apples;96;

29 Jan 2013 16:43:54
Maybe it wasn't a 424 kid, maybe it was a 4231.

I watched the game, and we didn't play with 4 out and out strikers.

WelshBoyDave

29 Jan 2013 16:48:20
Spot on mate even if we bring world class defenders if there is no cover for them from midfield they will struggle simple as that.
I can't believe even third class manager would do that mistake playing 4-2-4 with Allen as Defending midfield. Shocking was he put all the blame on youngsters instead excepting he got it wrong his tactics were awful that exposed our young players coz it was our two man Midfield versus their five.

I 100% agree with your post mate, I have so far given and will maintain my 100% support for BR, its clear that he's implementing his style of play and we are moving in the right direction but unfortunately this is going to take time, 3 years minimum until I believe his young players will be old enough and experienced enough to mount a real title challenge, what the team is clearly lacking is a midfield destroyer when Lucas is absent.
i feel the defeat on Sunday was 100% down to poor team selection, fielding the team he did on Sunday was disrespectful, cocky and naive to say the least but BR has just turned 40 so he himself is also very young and inexperienced manager and will make mistakes, but if he is going to be a great manager which I think he can be then he must learn from that type of mistake.
in games like that away from home regardless of opposition in the fa cup you must win the battle of midfield and playing the team he did it was never going to happen.
Lets wipe the slate clean with a win at the emirates tomorrow when we get chance to see his strongest 11 out on the pitch.
1-3 Liverpool
Jaydee ynwa

You can blame Rodgers for the pressure we were under, for not creating chances and for having players getting too little support. That is all fair enough.

You cannot blame the management for players consistently losing individual battles with players 2 leagues below them, for not jumping for balls travelling inches over their heads (which led to two goals) and for shooting widely and with obvious panic when 1-on-1 with the keeper and plenty of time.

BR made some big mistakes in the way we approached that match, but individual players also let themselves down badly

Ed001,

Me and some mates, not Liverpool or Man Utd supporters have been reading the various pages on here and noted how bitter the Utd guys are towards you, so we sent in a post yesterday to their page that didn't get put up and the same kinda post today, doubting it'll get put up either but you never know.

We just asked if they were so bitter towards you guys because you have won 63 trophies to their 62, 9 doubles and trebles to their 7 and 5 Champions League trophies to there 3 and that in '74 you were 25pts and 19 places above them when they got relegated

I know the love to brag but surely all they really have to brag about is being worth £2 billion, having lots of fans and selling lots of shirts.

Basically all off field achievements against what you've done on the pitch.

Maybe we hit a nerve, that's why it didn't get posted, so what do guys think, is that why they're bitter or does it go much deeper than that.

The Anthill Mob {Ed001's Note - I take it by being bitter towards me, you mean Liverpool, rather than me in particular. Only I have not found the vast majority of them to be bitter towards me at all. You always get tools, no matter what team you support.}

It's just rivalry between the two biggest teams in England.

I'd say there is more bitterness with Chelsea.

Adam

29 Jan 2013 12:34:21
I'm a bit worried, we are paying decent money for continho who is a major flop at Milan after a huge fanfare by the Milan chairman who can't wait to get rid off, mean while our neighbours have stolen a march on all the premiership with the signing off leroy fer who was wanted by ourselves and other clubs...gujo

Sounds like you are BITTER....

How do you know we wanted Fer? If we wanted him we surely wouldn't have signed Allen etc in the same position. We don't need him and i'm surprised Everton have gone for him unless he's a replacement for Fellaini eventually? I would suggest you trust the managers judgement on a player i'm thinking you have never seen play in Coutinho.

Everton buying Fer, I believe is because Fellani will be soon leaving, come the Summer.

Quite agree. Inter can't wait to get rid of him. He came with lots of promise to Inter but never delivered. Was on loan last year to Espanyol and can't get near the first team at Inter this year. Bad buy.

29 Jan 2013 16:51:11
countinho will be Brazilian Xavi....

Well mate the signing of leroy fer could be in preparation for a certain midfielder leaving in the summer.
derryred

Your money is it ? You know where it would be better spent I supose ?

29 Jan 2013 12:27:42
would just like to make a point.sturridge has been great signing so far and I was one of the people who said he would and was happy for him to sign.but his biggest downfall at previous clubs for me was his moaning and sulking.noone on our team had a good game but he had a big pout on his face the whole game nearly.throwing his eyes up to heaven etc.i for one am not happy to see that from a player four games into his career especiaaly when he is known for attitude problems.and I hope he was picked up on it because that CRAP is not good enough imo!

REDNESS

Sulk? I thought he was angry for the fact he blatantly got elbowed multiple times and got stamped on alot. Or perhaps you'd rather him have a smile on his face during it

29 Jan 2013 12:05:21
Wat was it MR WERNER said LFC fans will be really happy after this transfer window well this jus my take on it you have got 2days to show all us reds that you meant IT don't get me wrong I'm very grateful that they came in and stopped us from going bust but we need to kick on now

Lol you don't sound being grateful.

You mean besides spending 20 million this transfer window? And being close to the top spenders for the last several years?

Dan.

We have bought sturridge and coutinho.. Quit being so ungrateful.. It wasn't Liverpool money that bought those players.. It was FSG!

29 Jan 2013 11:40:13
Eds this Brazilian striker Spurs are ment to be trying to sign, is this not the same player that we failed to sign on the last deadline day? Do we have no interest in the player? It's about time we turned the tables and signed one of there targets don't you think. Looks a real goal scorer, fast strong good movement touch and finishes off superbly. {Ed001's Note - yes, no we have moved to other targets. No, I don't care about their targets or our targets, just getting players to improve our team.}

Agree with you mate. Damiao is a very talented player and he's the type of transfer that would significantly improve our team. He's even on our player Lucas' wish list. I guess were not 'there yet' to compete for this kind of talent. I hope the Spuds don't get him anyway

29 Jan 2013 11:35:19
He Ed(s), hope you well. Will Coutinho be eligible to play tomorrow if his work permit is granted today?

South African YNWA {Ed001's Note - depends on the FA getting the paperwork done in time, but he could be.}

29 Jan 2013 11:41:07
Manchester Utd: 10 goals in last 5 games - Conceded 5

Manchester City: 10 goals in last 5 games - Conceded 0

Chelsea: 10 goals in last 5 games - Conceded 5

Spurs: 9 goals in last 5 games - Conceded 4

Everton: 9 goals in last 5 games - Conceded 3

Arsenal: 1 goals in last 5 games - Conceded 7

Liverpool: 13 goals in last 5 games - Conceded 5

We're not doing too bad, we're making steady progress. 13 goals in 5 games is an achievement and more than all teams above us. We've also conceded pretty much the average of all teams above us.

With a little more patience, hopefully we'll have a decent end to the season.

We've still got;

West Brom
Wigan
Southampton
Villa
West Ham
Reading
Newcastle
Fulham
QPR

Who we can realistically take points from with;

Everton
Chelsea
Tottenham
City
Arsenal

Being the tougher tests, ALL of which are above us in the league.

I'd say that 5th is definitely achievable and 4th a bonus.

29 Jan 2013 12:13:51
Finally some positive comments. However, who did we play to get 13 goals as apposed to the other teams? But the rest is bang on. Well said!

Albert

Take note.

That's a real post.

DaveyBootle

Are you not counting the 5 scored by arsenal against west ham in that?

What is the point off this list, at this stage in season every team will have similar lists

Talk about clutching at straws, this is worse than the Tories with their attempts at flanneling us with unemployment figures.

Ozone

I agree as I said before the season started that 5th would be a realistic target as we are building a team just like Spurs have done for the past 3 years and now look at them they are a very good team.

BigD

29 Jan 2013 13:55:46
Maybe i'm missing something, but how are Arsenal 1 in 5? Didn't they just put 5 past West Ham?

WelshBoyDave

That can't be right, didn't arsenal score three against brighton

Do games against MANSFIELD and OLDHAM count lol plus the other 8 of stoke
norwich
sunderland
man utd
fulham
west ham
villa
and lets not forget qpr

hardly that good is it when other teams have played more teams in the top half not the bottom half. you guys must be easily pleased and searching everything to try to get a good statistic

dave

29 Jan 2013 13:40:16
Seems quiet today ed's.
Is it the calm before the storm?!
Hope you guys are getting your heads down before the madness that will be Thursday!
Keep up the good work.

Chris in Northampton {Ed001's Note - I have been out and Ed002 is traveling, no idea where the rest are though!}

Can't see us beating westbrom though, they have a better manager than us.

Arsenal scored 5 goals against West Ham so where are you getting your info from? Did you mean 11?

BthekingB

Just the last 5 games be it in the Prem/FA Cup etc. I put a typo in Arsenals too they scored 10 not 1!

It's all there to see on the tv website.

Premier league form is interesting too.

Manchester United: DWWWWD
Total: 14/18 points

Manchester City: WLWWWW
Total: 15/18 points

Chelsea: WWLWDW
Total: 13/18 points

Tottenham: DWWWDD
Total: 12/18 points

Everton: WWLWWD
Total: 13/18 points

Arsenal: WWDLLW
Total: 10/18 points

Liverpool: WLWWLW
Total: 12/18 points

When you look at the top, Manchester United look on top form, but they've only picked up 2 more points than us in the last 6 games and City on greater form than United have only picked up 3 more points.

I'd say it was an unfortunate start to the season, but on current form we're competing with the top 4 points-wise.

Scott

Why is it clutching at straws ozone? It's stats that are correct. We are starting to see the end product we lacked last season and the start of this, this shows this, how is this clutching at straws. And who cares who the goals are against, from my memory we tend to do ok against better teams but normally struggled against lower teams this shows we are moving forward.
All we need now is to carry on with our consistency, don't care about any cups at moment they are a way of blooding youngsters in hard fought tough games. If they make mistakes they learn from them. If they can't learn they need to start to live up to the reality that they won't make it.
Original post spot on

Lifelongred

Unfortunately SCOTT its based over the season and not a portion of it. there was a time last year that in a two game period you had the same points as the eventual winners ........ you both won two games on the trot

Ed's,

Can you please clarify the definition of a 'cheeky bid' please.

Thanks

Apples ;96; {Ed001's Note - if I knew what it meant, I would tell you!}

Scenario:
Ian Ayre approaches Mr. Oysten and hands him an envelope followed by a couple of loving winks.

Mr. Oysten replies by telling him to "f**k off you cheeky basket, he's worth more than that shabite up the M62".

Definition:
Cheeky bid:
An acknowledgement and financial bid in which the proposer intends to rip-off the potential recipient club with little or no hope of the transfer EVER being completed.

DaveyBootle

I think it means a "chance your arm" bid, not expecting it to come off but if it does then happy days!

Ahh thanks Davey!

So... A cheeky bid wouldn't necessarily involve pinching Mrs.Oystens arse in negotiations then?

Everyone saying carra is to old etc, for me every time he's played this season he's been our best defender by a mile.

29 Jan 2013 12:18:06
He has. However, the problem lies in the fact that he can only now play sporadically due to his age so he's too old to play every game but is an excellent squad player and a Lfc legend I might add. What would a team full of Jamie Carraghers be like? Great at the back but poor going forward. Ha Ha Ha thanks Mr Carragher your a true proffessional.
Nice Pizza's at the restaurant too.

Albert

Agreed. He's the best player by a mile on a sunday 5-a-side at the Brunswick club! ;)

DaveyBootle

Disagree. He was awfully shaky at the start of the season. Only recently has he played to a standard you would expect him to.

Have to agree, strange really because I thought like many others he would be all at sea in any Rodgers side.
Just shows you how wrong you can be.
I hope he plays at the Emirates, pace is over rated.
He would have Agger alongside him any way.
Experience leadership and great positional sense can make up for lack of pace.

That says more about our defence than it does about JC

How can people say we have gone forwards under Brendan Rodgers? Last year we were in the League Cup Final, we were still in the FA Cup and had more points in the league. We still have Henderson, Carroll and Downing and add to that list Allen. Our younger players are being criticised by our own manager and in Suarez we have the most hated player in the premiership - that is not a club going forwards.
Joe

Last year we had an old squad that had very little room for improvement. This year we have a young squad that will only improve with time. I call that going forward.

Grow up - as if people not liking Saurez means anything, I agree this year hasn't gone great but we are still trying to recover from what state the waiter left us in, coupled with a few bad buys from the King - if we are still like this after the first dozen matches next season - they I will eat humble pie, and concede our lack of progress.
It does show that tinkering with the defence in any competitive match doesn't work after losing to Swansea in Carling Cup and Oldham on Saturday. And the blame for both defeats falls squarely on BR's shoulders, like it did when The Waiter did it.

John B

29 Jan 2013 12:12:08
BR changed the whole system at LFC to my knowledge, and he's tried to bring through more youngsters than KD. How can you have a go at Suarez? Who cares if they all hate him. They hate him because he's so good. Have you ever wondered why everyone in England hates Man utd (obviously LFC supporters reasons are different but you get the point) Other than that here's one for you. If you notice last season we weren't having a lot of shots on goal or winning the majority of possession. BR has drastically changed that. Be patient BR will bring success. I don't agree with your comments but your entitled to them.

Albert

No body hates suarez unless you are a man united supporter, infect every manager wants him on his team, just ask guardiola ready to pay BIG money just to have him in his new team.

You are seriously taking things out of context. Rodgers was dissappointed by his younger players against Oldham, that's understandable after defeat. Suarez is one of the best players around, he's obviously going to have his haters, just like all the best players do. If he has contributed to that by his actions last season then okay, this season he's been a revelation and has done everything right for the team. Carroll is out on loan, Allen is working hard, Downing is doing much better overall. Look to the positives or at least be balanced and look to both negatives and positives.

BoriniCanDoIt.

What other fans think of Luis Suarez is irrelevant and is not a barometer of progress or regression.

Red Owl

Yawn yawn. Can't wait for the Arsenal game

So what would be your master plan Joe enlighten us with how you would progress and move forward?

Mike S

Jor are you for real does what people think of suarez make him a bad player, and not all people hate suarez, fergie started the hate campaign against suarez, the player is world class and don't care what other people think, I love watching him tear people apart and do some ridicules skills, and some great goals if you knew anything about football an holland journo said, he will be like marmite some will love him and some wont, me I think he is one of the most consistent quality players in the prem who never stops, and one of the best, heres a question for you find out how much af a break he has had since he came us, he has not has a few months off for a break in the summer, I don't really care who like him, I like him and he plays for Liverpool that's enough for me, other people feeling don't matter to me or suarez, its not a personality game its a football game

hai ed good mng...

"..Liverpool fc are the third biggest spenders on transfers in the last ten years, only city and Chelsea are above them! Utd in fourth place.. It's not all about money but how it's spent! And who you buy?Liverpool have had too many expensive flops r
Over the years.."

POst of the day...rather truth...
And we have some fans who just wanna get behind those players...
We need to get rid of players who actually don't wanna play for us...and also..who are not good enough...
Whats this point of giving time to players to prove their worth...
When you are bought with, 15, 20, 18 mill pounds..
You are supposed to show the wuality from day 1.
simple as that..
2 season for downing..
2 season for henderson.
probably 2 season for allen..
2 season for borni, ...

we are not training center...

These 4 players cost us over 60 mill...
di maria + ozil + higuan..will cost us this money...
and we would have been in top 3..

Chelsa, city, UTD players can have luxury..we cant...coz.we are not in CL..and the farther we are away from it...the more difficult to attract players..

Y luis suarez never required time to settle in Liverpool side??
The guy is was and will remain quality..no matter he plays in german, spanish, EPL or any league...

You bring Messi to EPL...he will still hit 30 goals.

We are in a position now, that we are replacing our own purchase 2 seasons ago...
We have become a joke for other clubs..
Every tiny child is aware our transfer dealings have been misserable..

Lets this be a reality and lets accept the fact and move on..
PLayers take Liverpool for granted..
no matter how you play..we still keep supporting...
if torres was this awful at Liverpool...we would still supporting him..

YNWA {Ed001's Note - and what if Di Maria, Ozil and Higuain had needed 2 seasons to find their feet? Your post is nonsense.}

29 Jan 2013 12:07:42
thank you very much ED...means lionel messi will require 3 season to score 10 goals in bundes ligue?
get a grip ED..your answer is as nonsesnse as my post...
then lets not buy anyone...if every player needs 3 seasons to prove their worth....
how many seasons did aguero took? {Ed001's Note - what are you talking about? You are just gibbering nonsense that makes no sense. I am saying you sometimes have to give a player time, Rush took 3 years but 'supporters' like you would have been on his back and hounded him out. Why don't you just give players time to get used to the system and their team mates, we used to put new signings in the stiffs for a season or two for a reason.}

Worse than nonsense.

Worst post of the day so far

TheWelsh

Can someone please translate the above post for me because it just does not make sense.

29 Jan 2013 12:47:38
What a load of Rubbish you speak. Firstly, how can you say its the post of the day when we've only just got past 12pm. I haven't even started yet!! Ha Ha. Loads of players take time to settle into clubs. There are many factors as to why. Where they get played what formation they play in whether other players at the club are good enough to read them etc etc. Just because you pay 20m doesn't guarentee you that that player will instantly be a hit. Downing and Henderson are ok. There is worse, to be honest when Downing came on on Sunday I though great Downing (positive). I seem to remember Ronaldo in his first season at Man utd he wasn't great and when Messin joined Barca they thought he was too small and weak look at him now. I am in no way comparing Downing and Henderson to Messi and Ronaldo just saying that even the best take time.

Albert

Spent so much and still didn't work out too well for us in the League, so we take a different approach. Build for a better future tomorrow with youth players today.

I think it's gamble but it's we have brought in some quality youth players, the average squad age is very young and they will learn in time.

If you expect instant results or instant stars then maybe a cryogenic chamber might be best for you, because in about 3 or 4 seasons these youth lads are going to be the heart and soul of our team and for many of them quite possibly England starters. No one told you it would be instant success, so why do you expect it?

Quite frankly losing against Oldham will only make are lads more hungry and ready to prove themselves. Being 3-1 down would have hurt them a lot, just as it hurt you and losing 3-2 to a club two divisions beneath us will also have hurt them, as it has the fans the senior players and the management. We move on and look to ourselves.

BoriniCanDoIt.

29 Jan 2013 15:35:54
Is that net spend ?

It took Lucas a few seasons to settle and he's one of the best in our team now, I never thought I'd be saying that 3 years ago lol

29 Jan 2013 16:59:54
ok..relax ed....can I copy this and paste this next yeart this time??...i am sure I can.... {Ed001's Note - it will still be idiotic in 20 year's time, let alone next year, so please don't waste everyone's time with it.}

V need to be signing more physical players. V lack strength which is the main attribute in premier league. Bringing in Coutinho wil be gud because he has pace, skill, technique and creativity. But v need a physically strong, experienced defender and a midfielder, while Rodgers mentioned it. Rodgers hopes to bring atleast one are two players other than Coutinho.

29 Jan 2013 12:13:03
lets bring...stone cold steve austin and the rock..probably mark henry....strongest man....

Like Stoke.

We. It's not hard, just one extra letter

There is something wrong with your keyboard, every time you try to type WE it comes out V .

We don't need another senior midfielder at all, pending Skrtel's situation at the club we might need a defender. Could always do with another wide/attacking option for the system.

Personally I think a new goalkeeper should now be Liverpool's priority, as Reina is seeking a move back to Spain and Jones is not commanding enough or consistent enough to warrant a starting selection in the sticks. Although I think this will be put off until the Summer, but it's already cost us a fair few points and an F.A cup run, more important and thus a priority, in my opinion than a central midfielder.

BoriniCanDoIt.

Those wrestlers are old and prone to injury. We need to look to the future. :) Not the attitude era.

29 Jan 2013 10:50:05
I'm really hoping Robinson will be nowhere near the first team again, actually I don't see him make it in a club like LFC. Surely we can get better players with the right attitude to play for the shirt and show respect to the captain no matter who he is. I'm still hopeful concerning Borini although I have reservations about Italian players. Did any of them actually make it in the EPL?

HK

One bad game that's all he has had. wake up.
stu

Zola, Vialli, Di Canio, Ravanelli, Eranio and a few more that made it but didn't stay too long.

Zola, de mateo, de canio, balotelli to a certain extent. And to be fair there is not really a lot of Italians that have played in this country.

Last I checked Zola was Italian so was Di Canio

Ani

Zola? Obviously not forgetting our main giant slayer Dossena too.

Robinson is a young lad learning his trade who will go on to be a England regular in years to come.one of the best talents to come through for years. 19 years old one bad game and you Muppets on his back

29 Jan 2013 12:52:01
I have a feeling your views on Robinson are clouded by the fact that he told Suarez to foxtrot oscar. He's young give him time. His attitude I'm sure will improve and Gerrard will have spoken to him.

Albert

Roberto Di Matteo
Paulo Di Canio
Gianfranco Zola

to name just a few.

MikeyD

Vialli, Zola, Di Canio, Carbone, Di Matteo to name a few

I have the same reservations but will give the boy time before making a judgment on him. Hear are some Italians that dident do to badly in the EPL Zola, Vialli, Ravanelli
Murton red

Robinson is excellent, he's played for England at every junior level from 16's upwards and now to u21's, he's been consistently one of the brightest and best left backs for his age group in the Country. Show's how much you really know.

So, he got lippy and a bit angry and lost his rag with Suarez, well that's what team mates do. I love Jack Robinson, he's going to get even better and I believe is one of the better youth coming through the ranks. I saw Andre Wisdom do the same thing with Jamie Carragher the other week, having a go at him for not clearing his lines quick enough, Andre gave Carra the F-off standard rebuke.

Young lads do what young lads do, not the most eloquent at the best of times, but they improve their game, respect and understanding. Expecting 20 year olds to be the height of maturity is just wishful thinking. I just hope the youth learn quicker as opposed to slower.

BoriniCanDoIt.

Zola, di Matteo, Balotelli and Santon come to my mind. Though it seems only Italians who play for Chelsea are successful! I just feel Italians like the English prefer to stay in Italy and actually play better in their respective leagues!

sama491

I think Zola was voted chelsea's greatest ever player, I could be wrong though!
JJ

Zola was pretty good. Di Canio? Di Matteo could play. Vialli? I think Cudicini was Italian too. Some of the best players to grace the Premier League, especially Zola.

Look at all the success teams had playing 4-4-2 formation I know things have changed but what do people think about having a go at 4-4-2 the players know where to be on the pitch and who to mark.

I think Rodgers doesn't care what your tactics are and no one on this website will get him to change them. That's what I think. So it's all a bit moot.

Personally if pressed, I like the 4-3-3, but it's not actually a 4-3-3 at the best of times which we play, early stages yet. Especially when half the team are rested/injured and youth lads come in and try and get the philosophy of the manager over without having played enough first team football to be comfortable enough in position to carry out orders.

Jones was at fault for a goal, Coates was at fault for crimes against defending and the ref let too many Oldham elbows, stamps and argy bargy go for my personal taste and like, but we should have done better.

29 Jan 2013 10:28:24
The most intimidating ground and side we've faced this season ?
Everton at Goodison.
Did we get bullied ?
Did we ****. Got revved in and should have won it.
It's about attitude and being up for it.

OK in hindsight it might have been better to start with Gerrard. But that was a makeshift back four on Sunday, missing both regular full backs, a centre back and the main goalie.

I think the new Brazilian lad can be a real spark for us. Quick, skilful and can find that pass or goal. It was only a few weeks ago that the general consensus on here was that we're light up front. That has now been addressed, and I think we've got the strongest depth up front that we've had for a good while, with some real pace and skill there.
So pack it in with this dismantling of the side rubbish, before the web explodes.
Or maybe you want to do what Everton are looking at - sign the Korean Peter Crouch !?
Lol.
The Juicer

Gota blame the manager for having the starting 11 mental ready for what was to come. Keep it tight there going to come at as like a train. Stand up don't give an inch then20mins in start to pick them off

The back 4 plays as a unit. You can't throw 3 inexperienced players and a non talker(Skyrtel) together and expect them to be a solid unit.
Your not giving them a chance to play well.
Coates for example would look a lot better and have a better chance of playing well alongside Agger Johnson and Enrique.

29 Jan 2013 13:26:39
I'm betting that is exactly what Brendan Rogers said. I think it is also why he was so angry.

If he tells the players that and they don't do it then surely the players have to look at themselves in the mirror and we have to look at the players?

Thomas

Ref robbed us a goal against Everton, Stoke battered us with strength at the Britania Stadium.

Poor refereeing decisions and obvious fouls that weren't given cost us that game as well.

Not a sore loser, but some things Stoke get away with against every team are passed unexplainable and inconsistent, in my opinion.

BoriniCanDoIt.

Or you could do what everton are doing and sign a dutch international midfielder.
Or you could do what Liverpool do and pay £35 million for a donkey. and then try and blag for the rest of the season... "oh he'll come good"
Cant wait to see the papers next summer..." Liverpool right off their losses with x amount"

Lucas will help him out. Lucas' english is fantastic and his scouse is catching on.

Carra's not done too badly with the language barrier, so it's not that important....

A very small amount. Equivalent to the amount of French we learn in high school.

I can answer this ed,

Coutinho speaks a small amount of english, equivalent to the amount of french we learn in high school in the UK. He started taking lessons a little under a year ago a long with a couple of other inter youngsters.

A year or two living here and he should have some proficiency.

Brendan says we need to be harder, lets start by dropping Allen and Henderson, they are too lightweight.

Henderson too lightweight!!!

What have ate you on

Lyndon

Allen I agree with, but Hendo can get stuck in and he's a touch classier on the ball than Shelvey for me.

RobInRed

Henderson has been great recently and worked his socks off. That's more than I can say for a lot of the players.

Richard

How is henderson lightweight he is probably one of the biggest in the squad

Have you been drinking the happy sauce early? As you seem a little light weight and tipsy already. :)

I like Allen for moving the ball extremely quickly in the middle of the park, 5 yards left, 7 yards right etc.
Gerrard is the passing master class, Lucas holds the ball and gets it. Henderson is getting much much better, he doesn't want to get rid of the ball out of fear anymore and actually wants to use the time to be effective, much better of late.

If you want to moan about the Oldham game then look at the dodgy 31 year old keeper in the sticks, not a pair of 22 year olds who have both chipped in and scored over the last two matches.

Brad Jones is diabolical and has been for a long time, Arsenal scored 7 passed him in one match. We bought him because of a dual nationality passport under Roy Hodgson (Hodgson's words). So we should replace him with better quality irrelevant of nationality.

Reina hasn't been the golden gloves of Anfield for some time either, we should get rid of both and freshen up. Reina has been a top servant for the club but maybe it is time for fresh and pastures new.

Hello fellow reds!

Does anyone know if you can live stream the game tomorrow night on an iPad. I know it's on tv but can't afford that.

First row won't work on iPad will it?

Thanks in advance!

Red h

If you download skyfire from the App Store it will allow you to watch the game through firstrowsports and other live streaming sites. That's what I do and watch every game for free. Hope this helps
James st ives

Download an App called SkyFire mate. It makes firstrowsports accessible to iPhones and iPads. Think it's $0.99c

Melbourne CFC

Sell you iPad and buy a TV subscription.

Priorities Lad!

You need Firefox app

If you download Skyfire from the App Store (you have to pay for it!), then you can watch firstrow sports. It somehow lets you watch flash. Not all the links will work, but about half do - it tells you after about 20 seconds if it will play. Hope that helps.

Nick

Cheers chaps.

I will try it later. I have read the reviews and loads say it doesn't work. What website is best to use with it to watch the games?

Cheers

Red h

For iPad - Download and install a browser called 'Puffin'. Use that to go to www.streamhunter.eu RED LENIN

Download an App called Puffin. You can then watch the game on any of the websites streaming the game eg. Firstrowsports.

Gordy

If you know someone that has a sly sports subscription and wouldn't mind giving you their user details for the SkyGo app on the ipad.
I think you can have up to 3 devices registered onto an account.
So if they have an ipad and a pc already there is still room for you to log-in via your ipad.
It all depends if you know someone that will let you do it (parents, in-laws, good friend etc).

Hey Eds and Reds
Don't you think Rafael's brother Fabio would be a great deffender for Liverpool and Andre Bahia or luciano castan and a striker ricardinio

Fabio. We'd be better off with the Male model Fabio. Plus if you've not seen it watch the youtube video of him on the rollercoaster when he gets hit by a pigeon ha ha ha! One of the best vids ever Fabio the model that is. Ha ha ha still makes me laugh. Plus, you obviously wouldn't know a good defender if he jumped out of your soup and tackled your bread off you.

fact is if we sign one player in summer gerrards replacement being a quality quality player ud have to be happy,
personally you need 2 players every position every top team has it.
if was me i'd sell skrtel for a good fee and buy another top class cb to partner agger.
id buy micah richards who can play all over the back physical in defence.
i think we need 2 cm a physical one say wanyama type sort and a top quality player in mould of eriksen or benat. gerrards replacement.
that would leave gerrard lucas allen shelvey eriksen and wanyama for example.
then I would sell downing and borini.
then depends who we buy this month buy another winger and striker. buying to replace so as getting in your taking out which is fsg moto. that would leave us with 2 players for every position and a squad size of nearly 25

29 Jan 2013 09:44:02
Faults or not, at least Rodgers hasn't called Oldham 'Formidable'.

WelshBoyDave

Maybe he should have. At least to the players. Then we might still be in the competition.

The Irish Rover

We got knocked out by Northampton, the next season we are in the final, now we get knocked out by Oldham wonder what happens next season?

It's just one of those annoying things. One of my best and happiest moments of being a football fan was being in bed listening to my little portable radio with Liverpool vs Bristol City in the F.A Cup and it went to pens, back with Grobbs in goal for us. (shows my age).

Didn't care that we lost, I just loved the atmosphere, the edge of the knife tension. I feel in love with the sport that night irrelevant of the result (Bristol beat us) I took the defeat and saw my team later lift the Champions League, Champions of Europe and I cried like a baby. The moral of the story is, we can't win every year.

So Brenda Rodgers has come out and said we are too soft, we need to be harder. Please start by dropping, or better still getting rid, of Allen and Henderson. (Note these two players cost £35m.)

What a joke. supporters like you should be dropped

Do you mean two of our better performers in the last match?

29 Jan 2013 12:12:45
Get your figures correct or just Shhhhh.

WelshBoyDave

And putting Brenda makes you look like a
Immature T#T

Lyndon

You are obviously one of the many who would have sold Lucas - Henderson is our future., jury is still out on Allen.

Yeah there the same supporters who were saying that lucas was the worst player to wear the red shirt and they are the same supporters who will be on here saying champions league here we come after we beat arsenal. As brendan said when he took over there are propper fans who stay with the team when they win lose or draw and there are fans who just like to moan regardless. I will let you decide which one he/she is.

They didn't ask to cost that much, that's what the club you apparently supported decided they were worth.

No one held a gun to the clubs head and said pay, especially not these two 22 year old players.

29 Jan 2013 09:31:46
so many so called supporters slating the players and manager after one game. to be honest i'd rather focus on league and europa. especially the league. top 4 spot is a necessity if we are to keep star players (suarez) and attract star players in the summer (erikson, sanchez et al)
i would like to know peoples thoughts on shelvey? rarely see him mentioned on here. I honestly think serious thought should be put into loaning him or selling him. i'm not slating him. he has played some good games. I just don't rate him consistently. same with downing. lfc need to be selling players to create funds to bring in the players needed/wanted

this is my opinion on what we need and disagree if you want but this is my ins and outs. including summer from now.

out:
carroll
spearing
downing
pacheco
shelvey
coates
possibly skrtel in summer
reina in summer

ins:
wilfried bony
mo diame
erikson (summer)
alexis sanchez or andre schurrle (summer)
ashley williams
simon kjaer or k. papadopolous if skrtl leaves(summer)
te stegen as reinas replacement (summer)
luke shaw (summer)

very unlikely and all depends on securing cl spot for some players. but this would shoot us straight back into serious title challenging greatness.

This is just an opinion of what I think would be awesome to happen at lfc. not saying it is going to happen. would like to know why people disagree? obviously know nothing about football if you disagree with getting any of them players in. they are all beasts.

Bony is a slow version of the yak.

kidmillions

How do you know what half them players like. Its not fifa, just cause a player is foreign doesn't make him better. Get real .

Because it's not just 'one game', it's been the whole season.

Bony must be really slow then as the yak was not exactly quick and nimble

nevada

I have watched Bony a good few times and he's a Great header of the ball strong as an ox, he's physically very similar to the Yak and just as slow and lazy. Think you'll find that's the reason there's no big clamour to get him from the big boys.

I actually think he's a good player and would be a legend at the club. Great finisher, just needs good management.

How many goals has Ballo'tubby scored this season? Not nearly enough.

Borini made mention of a conversation he had with Balli and he explained to Borini that Liverpool was an amazing club with huge support.

Surprisingly Borini listened to Balli's advice. LoL I'd of needed a second opinion, not doubting Liverpool, but taking advice of Balloteli just seems stupid. :)

People forget how young Mario is, he's a junior still, he may be an ox of a size like Carroll but these lads are pampered and wrapped in cotton wool. I hope he's allowed to get on with his football wherever he ends uP.

Brendan quoted as saying"going to places like Oldham you know what your going to get.You have to roll your sleeves up and fight!".So why the fool did you select players who've proven they don't/can't do that on several occassions? Stop digging Brendan your making it worse!

I have to agree to a degree.
When I saw the team I thought too attacking, too light weight and inexperienced for some of the rough and tough players from the 1st division, but I was hoping to be proved wrong.
A lesson learnt I suppose and now we can concentrate on trying to get that 4th spot.
It has highlighted that the fantastic young players we have coming thru, HAVE to get their heads right of they will fail.
After playing for Liverpool their is only one way to go and that's down

Hindsights a wonderful thing, although it won't win you cups, games and bets in the now.

We live in the now and can not alter the past. I state the obvious but sometimes you need to give people the benefit of the doubt.

If you read the reports, Reina, Skrtel, Coates, and Carragher could be leaving us in the summer. I doubt we would let 3 center backs leave in the same transfer window, but who do you think will possibly leave in the summer? (Let's just leave Suarez out of the conversation!)

Coates can go, i've had a question mark over his positioning and pace ever since he arrived.

Skrtel seems to be edging out the door, according to reports, how true they are, I don't know.

Carra should stay, he's got some much knowledge of the game and he commands respects and inspiration. He's been an ever present for us.

29 Jan 2013 08:07:55
Stop it just stop it, We do not need to buy a CB to replace Skrtel or continue from carra we already have a player at the club who's excellent at defending, great in the air, good pace, comfortable with the ball and loves the club.

Are 1st choice CB's should be Agger and..................KELLY

........New GK..............

Johnson.....Kelly......Agger.......Enrique

.......Hendo.....Lucas......Stevie(c)......

Sterling.......Sturridge.........Suarez....

Back up GK
Skrtel
Robbo
Allen
Shelvey
Downing
New ST

Agreed, both Kelly and Wisdom are natural CBs.

Sterling doesn't deserve a starting placee before downing at the moment

Sterling first choice really?

Pretty much what I also think. Just replace Sterling with Downing. Sterling is good, but he needs to go on a loan for a year or two. And to grow some weight.
Also Wisdom is atm better than Robbo. And if Coutinho comes, he needs to be placed somewhere too.
And Borini is very promising as well. Give him a season without injuries, he will be like RvP.

What about coutinho? Send him out on loan is it? Kelly over skrtel? Thank god your not manager!!

Kelly is class and will be an england regular when he gets fit again woy loves him

It's a travesty that Kelly has never been played at centre half.

Ozone

I cannot believe it but I agree with you Ozone (for once lol)

Any news on martin kelly eds? do you think we need a commanding see defender, because Skrytel, Coates arent up to it?
thes mell {Ed001's Note - Kelly is undergoing rehab, nothing new to report and it is highly unlikely we see him again this season for the first team. We clearly do need a central defender, Agger's injury history, plus Skrtel and Coates lapses, and Carra's age, makes it clear we need more centre backs.}

Hello Ed,
do you reckon there is still time to move Coates on and bring in a new CB ?
really need a strong commanding CB to replace Coates someone like Samba, Sakho, Zouma (in other words an African/ French player).
and secondly reckon Carragher will retire/move on in the summer ? {Ed001's Note - of course there is time, but it is unlikely to happen in Jan. Hard to say with Carra, but I think he will want to move to get games, he hates not playing.}

My opinion the jury is still out on Kelly as a centre back.
He has his injury problems and at time does not seem commanding enough, but he is only young
More concerning is him not signing his contract....

Skrtel was the fans player of the season at the end of last season ..
I know he has lapses and play much better with Agger next to him, but you can't blame him for Sunday .. he was doing the work of 2 sometimes 4 with both Robinson and Wisdom going missing.
Brendan got it wrong, you had 3 relative youngsters at the back, and as he put it "when you go to Oldham you know what to expect", so he should know he needed experience at the back line particularly with no Lucas to support the defence, and a relatively inexperienced goal keeper.
Never mind, we all learn from mistakes, the import thing now is to make sure we finish top 7 and hope a top 4 side win the FA.

Roy

29 Jan 2013 07:25:21
I honestly believe in the Summer we need a masive overhaul of our central defence.Coates out, carragher retire shame but going to happen might aswell be the summer rebuild, Skrtel sold or third choice and a young cb from youth to step up or buy a young up and coming player. But we need a soild cb to partner agger.

Deanalfie

Agree with everything you say.
Also, I know Agger is class, but I would love to see him in the sweeper/dm position.
Good footballing brain. Can start attacks. Awesome shot. Quick enough. Reads the game well.

Funny how people quickly see the bad before the good in players. If a player has one or two off games then sell is the first thing that comes to mind.
SA RED

Coates had one bad game and everyone wants him gone, are you forgetting the other 10 players on the field ? I admit he might not be up to scratch yet and he might be slow but give the guy a chance he plays one game every few months!

29 Jan 2013 06:56:58
Can the Sterling haters please stop and take a second to realise that the guy is only 18.....

He needs a rest and to be protected, encouraged and supported and remember that not even Rooney, Ronaldo or even MESSI where playing consistently at this level at that age.
They all showed flashes of brilliance but still showed areas of their game which need improving, Raheem has shown the same signs so please be patient and just let the guy develop.

barnesjnr777

Comparing sterling to messi

he s too big for his boots, back tothe u21s for a few weeks

tom1975

Btw no one hates sterling or allen or anyone
sterling is underperforming and needs dropping

allen showed signs of tencity second half against oldham....could be getting back to himself

tom1975

I totally agree that Sterling has had way to much exposure to first team footie in a relatively short period of time. So why has Rodgers continued to play him. Sterling has been pretty ineffective for a few months now. He needs to be put on the bench and used sparingly for a few months.
The Irish Rover {Ed001's Note - because young players learn the most when facing adversity. Sterling is struggling with his form, he needs to overcome that, make or break time, not hide away and be pandered to.}

The 3 players you mentioned were playing constantly at his age!!

29 Jan 2013 09:37:26
Good comments and like with BR everyone needs to be patient. He showed faith in signing a adult contract with us so we should show him the same.

Albert

It's hard to be patient when he is playing most games, I agree he needs more time off
jaycee

Really hope Brendan Rodgers reads this
NAVANRED

Ed001, I know what you are saying, but who/what is bigger, the success of the club or Sterling playing this season? He'll be big for us in the future, but we can't keep playing him when he isn't performing like he once was, surely! Downing deserves to start before him, with Suarez and Sturridge the other two, if playing a 4-3-3 that is. Even in a 4-2-3-1, Downing would still get my vote, especially how he's starting to find his form.

Keith {Ed001's Note - sometimes you have to give them the chance to find their form.}

Rooney, Ronaldo or even MESSI
====================

I don't know about Ronaldo but Rooney and Messi were playing week in week out when they were 18.
Ed001 is 100% spot on with Sterling, he needs to find his form, us fans need to be patient with/for him, but he needs playing time and for him to find the form that we all know he has.

Roy

I said consistently not constantly and was referring to their form, I wasn't comparing Sterling to Messi or anyone else in terms of ability more in terms of how they have been used in the first teams by their respective managers.

I personally think Sterling would benefit from a more reserved approach much like the strategy adopted by Arsene Wenger for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, unfortunately we haven't had much other choice then to play him all the time and to be fair until recently he has been one of our best performers. He has so far had a better season than Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. Lets not burn him out to early in his career like Michael Owen or pile too much pressure on his little shoulders and subsequently hurt his development, we have got a real talent on our hands we just need to nuture him properly.

p.s The term 'Haters' doesn't necessarily mean you actually hate somebody in this instance it refers to all the unnecessary negativity hurled in his direction for his sudden dip in form. My overall point was that we need to remember he is only just turned 18 yrs old and needs our support to fulfil his full potential. NOBODY REACHES THEIR FULL POTENTIAL AT 18.

Hangaland of Fulham, is a real possability, despite poor relation with the fulham owner it appears BR has earmaked him as a Deadline day back up if other targets are missed.
Butland and ince will both sign very soon. Oyster is being very difficult but is now resighned to losing him
Big Seb's future is very Unsure BR would love to cash in but has to get players in first, and the Club who wants him is West Brom.
Got a feeling we are going to have RED faces again thursday night!

January 29, 2012
Through to the FA Cup fifth round after a memorable 2-1 win over deadly rivals Manchester United.
Preparing for a League Cup final showdown against Cardiff at Wembley.
About to go fifth in the Premier League with 38 points from 23 games.

Now BR
-----
January 29, 2013
Knocked out of the FA Cup after a 3-2 fourth-round defeat at League One strugglers Oldham Athletic.
Out of the League Cup at the third-round stage back in October.

Seventh in the Premier League with 34 points from 23 games.

Hmmmm........FACT

M {Ed001's Note - just shows you can't judge until the season is over then doesn't it?}

And what happened in feb, march and april last year?

cozinoz

The key difference for me is that I am optimistic and excited about the direction and long term future of the club.

Rodgers is a man with forward-thinking ideas and philosophiea and a clear vision of greatness. Dalglish was never going to be a long-term appointment so the stability was never there.

I think Dalglish overachieved with the squad he had at times. And cup run comparisons from year to year mean nothing.

Liverpres

We spent Shed loads last season compaired to this year.
We had more older higher waged personel at the club compaired to this year.
We never played youth last year
This year we may not be going strong but we have almost got rid of the useless players, got rid of high paid non performing players and have given the youth plenty of playing time.
I would say we have gone forward as the real measure is looking at league form and with all those changes (not to mention new manager) we are only 4 points worse off. Not bad really

Slowpoke

And then what happened...?

We picked up 14 points from the next 15 games finishing 8th. We won the carling cup despite being outplayed by a championship side and choked in the FA Cup final.

Hmmmm what was your point again?
CQ

Well said ed.... I also think some people forget we lost the FA cup final to Chelsea

Lucas injured, suarez 8 match ban.
BR talks better than KK that's all.

We can't win the Carling cup or reach the finals of the FA cup at the end of the season now, can we Ed ?
BR spend a 40 million on the squad he had at his disposal and as he said "Progress" is there for all to see..
Let's hope we have more real progress to show in the league and Europe in second half of the season..
No one doubts his man management or charisma in front of the camera or poster boy image but hopefully the footballing reasons of why he was selected as the Liverpool manager comes to the fore now..

You're forgetting that we pretty much didn't win another game from then until the end of the season, we struggled to beat Cardiff and lost to Chelsea.
The football we were playing was pretty poor too.
I'm glad we now have BR and the persons just need to get behind the team instead of finding something they think they can make a story out of.

29 Jan 2013 07:52:57
ed..so you men to say..year in year out, ..we should be silent and judge end of the season.... {Ed001's Note - nope, I mean to say it is far too early to judge Rodgers yet.}

Youdo realise we ve spent more than 50 million this seasonwithout recouping anything really

tom1975

As you say mate, Lucas injured and Suarez 8 match ban plus the unsettling effect the mater as a whole had on the club. Kenny looking to bring in Diame or someone of that nature, we'd be challenging for the title now under Kenny.

Ozone

Kenny's achievements certainly dwarf those of Brendan Rodgers, and being able to travel to Wembley for those finals was a fantastic experience. The victories over Chelsea, Manchester City and their neighbours were spine-tingling too. Unfortunately, things have moved on, so we will just have to put up with the situation we are in and hope that the rest of this season gives us something to look forward to. A good run in the Europa League would help to best morale, as would some League victories against the so-called bigger teams. Certainly something good needs to happen to lift the mood again. It would nice to think that a repeat of last season's two nil triumph at the Emirates might be on the cards. Liverpool's current side is a young one though, and perhaps this season's difficulties might be beneficial in the long run, given that adversity can help to accelerate learning. Having said that, Wembley does seem light years away at the moment.

Red Owl

You have to remember Kenny had a much more experienced team, maxi, kuyt, bellamy.

Rodgers has managed this season with a squad full of kids, even though we have underperformed in the domestic cups I feel we have improved since last season

If you don't agree at least give BR and the team your support till next season, he needs a chance to turn LFC around

K-Man

Biggest match since the 08/09 was Everton at Wembley last season.

Dwelling on the retirement of gerrard is like dwelling on death itself. Imbossible to get your head round and makes you cry uncontrollably.

Anonymous woolback

Gerrard's set the standard, as has Carragher, they've both been fantastic and with Gerrard taking very good care of himself, as many modern footballs do physically, I don't see why he can't continue for a fair few years more, at the very least! Gary McAllister signed for Liverpool at the tender age of 35 on July 1st 2000, on a Bosman signing. He played 87 games in total and scored 9 goals and created a hat full of assists and helped the then young lads taste victory and glory on almost every level, domestically and on the continent. Why not Gerrard as well?

BoriniCanDoIt.

by feb we had already qualified for the europa league

after the qpr game everyone gave up because cl was no longer mathematically possible

tom1975 {Ed001's Note - then you have to question why that happened. No one should ever give up while in a Liverpool shirt. Even when there is no prize to play for, there is the pride of representing us!}

Fair point ed001

its human natureto performbetter when there is hope as opposed to when there is none

tom1975

kenny was imo sacked too soon...however I think the owners had a plan and kenny wasnt part of it {Ed001's Note - sorry but that is when the manager earns his money, he gets the players to play like there is something to play for. That is why you have a manager, to inspire. For me, Kenny should never have been given the job, he is a legend, THE King of the Kop, and didn't deserve to take the abuse and stick he got off fans last season. It was never the right appointment to give it him long term, not with modern day fans, they don't deserve him. I do agree though, once given the job, he should have been given the time needed to do it properly. That is history now though, and Brendan Rodgers should now be afforded time and support to see if he is the right choice to resurrect us. It is a huge job.}

Just shows we shouldn't discount players like Lampard - at worst he could play better than Allen for a couple of seasons

Directly to all negative comments! I thought Gerarrd was past it? Really not the case right? give the lads a chance!

That would be Mighty Reds and Mikey, the main advocators for Gerrard not to play.

In fairness gerrard did have a very bad spell where he shouldhave dropped...his formhas returned

allens dropped andhe should be benched but that will return also

the manager should pickhis strongest eleven every week based on form and fitness alone

Just bringing up a general point here...

I was watching the Swansea-Chelsea game last week and I noticed how he pundits were praising Leon Britton for his "hunger for the ball" and how he kept the midfield ticking. I find it pretty harsh on Joe Allen that he does exactly what Britton does but Allen gets all the harsh comments because of his pricetag. The lad will be a star so lets get behind him. In my opinion, he had a decent game against Oldham.

Red Chopsticks

The trouble is it has become fashionable for him to be the target. I mean, they can't criticise Gerrard now he has picked up form. The same goes for Downing and Henderson.
It's the same numpties all the time.
I don't think they learned their lesson from the insane abuse that Lucas used to get.

I don't think people were abusing allen but he wasnt upto standard recently and needed dropping

ithink people were more angry with br fornot dropping him and showing him favouritism.....allen suffered because of this

however his second half performance against oldham showed something I hadnt yet seen inhim, a real determination to get the game back. he started showing some tenacity in the tackle and desire to win something that he needs to show every game though not just when we are 3-1 down at oldham

is anybody else worride about the owners? I no they have spent money and I don't think there bad owners to have, but they have made it very clear that they won't sign anybody over the age of 24/25 because they won't make money when there sold!

now to me that tells me there just in it for the money and there not to fussed about Liverpool being successfull! with rodgers, gerrard, suarez coming out with we need experience, its tells me there has obviously been disscustions with the owners about the importance of signing experienced players...

witch obv didn't go down well cuz every player were linked with is young an inexperienced...

to me this is worrying...

how is rodgers going to bring us foward with no top experienced players? the answer is he wont... look at our season so far very poor lost a lot of games but were still in touching distance of the top 4, FSG should see this and think alright this is a chance to get CL football...but there not!

anybody else share this view?

cheers

BC

I would like a link to where they have made this perfectly clear. Not someone's opinion that this is the case, but an actual statement where FSG (e.g. Werner or Henry) say that they will not sign anyone over 25.

Thanks much-
RDL

They are trying to stabilise the club. If we kept on going like we did then we would have been another Leeds UTD and playing in the lower leagues. They have got a young fresh manager who in time will get things right and they have got rid of the drivel that turned up for their wage packet every week.
Yes there is more to come and yes the owners have to change their policy on only buying younger players but I think they will do that once we reach top again..hopefully. I think they are trying to build a squad... a squad that is good young and strong to compete and is finicially stable. They will then add the expereinced players but only when the income is coming in.
So be patient

i hope 'supporters' realise that we had our second string GK, defense, mid, wingers playing on sun. also, the average age of the team was something like 22/23. suarez and sturridge will probably be the only two to start at arsenal on wed. prior to the oldham game I thought it a strong side which should have been capable of wining the game, but we didn't, so please acknowledge the first team has still to play at the emirates, settle down children,

rodges brain

Not the point, 2nd string or not, not one of them warrants a start against the gooners, but obviously BR will play Suarez, Sturridge probably Skertl too.

BR aren't far fron the truth here, our youngsters are good, great even, but the gulf in experience showed Sunday.

If I were BR, pick 16 players for next 3 and stick with them, barring injuries no rotation same starting 11.Send others back to reserves for a few weeks.

Hi All, haven't posted for a while. For the whole season now it has been evident that we don't have any physical side to our game. Agger, Lucas, Allen etc are all decent footballers but when it comes to a matter of pace or strength they are somewhat lacking. Skrtel offers neither technical ability or physicality this year...his head is elsewhere.

Just wondering, do you think Rodgers will target any players to address this? He seems to be going for players who are good technically but perhaps a touch lightweight (Coutinho and Ince for example). I would like to see us go for players like Ogbonna, Samba, Fer, Sissoko (just gone to Everton and Newcastle respectively, but a player like them!), or even Diame of West Ham. It's all very well wanting us to be the next Barcelona but winning some games is about us being more like Stoke than Barcelona!

One last thing on the Oldham game. I think I've only seen one post on here about it but I could be wrong. How bad was the referee yesterday. when money is tight you need to play safe buy quality.
allen sahin assaidi borini 35mil, FSG are fools if they trust BR with the funds they provide.
BR spoke about the team that looks at players, guess who they came up with now williams from swansea.it took them a while to find him haha.

might be I good idea to have look at erikson, strootman, shaw.last time I checked the first 2 play for ajax and psv they survive on selling players.
we need to act fast there are more people out there like me that watch football.

If you watched football you'd that Sahin was quality and worth a gamble on loan. And the other 3 or 20-22 so definitely astute buys whether they've looked it thus far or not. Why don't you stop trying to be a smart arse and recognise the good points to our football this season, and not just the negative.
