First time poster, long time reader.
In my profession I see a lot of people try to do things that they're not capable of doing and it always ends in a mess. When I see a problem I can't solve I immediately call or find someone that is an expert in that area. I don't see that as a failure on my behalf, I see it as success in problem solving. I think Klopp should adopt the same mind set with our defense. I think he's a good manager but has his faults. If only he could recognise those faults I. e. the defense, he could be one of the great managers.

In a prediction to any response about any money spent on VVD, throwing money at a problem doesn't always solve a problem. Throwing money at a problem is usually the end of a project to make it successful. Success At this stage is usually dependant on luck. I hope we're lucky with VVD, or Klopp eventually recognises his weaknesses.

30 Dec 2017 01:52:18
Luck is important but there's a formula to increase it if anyone wants to
Preparation + Opportunities = Luck.

30 Dec 2017 02:33:20
VVD has to improve our defense! He has no excuses! £75 mill is not any ordinary sum however you see it. You only spend that sum on any player who could change the entire course of your team / defeciences!

30 Dec 2017 02:59:35
'Throwing money at a problem is usually the end of a project to make it successful' Throwing money at it could also be looked at as an investment mate, it can go both ways. For all we know VVD will be a flop, I highly doubt that but we never know, with today's market it was always going to be an expensive transfer and it was the first highest for a defender but it certainly won't be the last a few years from now X defender will probably be double that, like any player who joins a club to improve it, it'll either go the clubs way or it won't, that's the chances clubs take. Our defence is a problem, even with VVD added, but its stepping up, it's improving by adding him, surely? so to me, it was wise to splash the cash on him. I hope.

As for Klopp, I agree, he does have faults but so does every manager. His biggest fault is playing Mignolet every game, not the defence, he's addressing that, that's pretty evident. He / the club have just spent 75 Mil on VVD, if that's not trying to sort out the defence then I don't know what is. Saying he isn't addressing it is false.

30 Dec 2017 03:21:03
But of a self-fulfilling prophecy to say "I hope we're lucky with vvd" sounds like klopp won't win with you.

30 Dec 2017 04:55:21
Talking about VVD flopping even before he pulls on a red jersey. How optimistic!

30 Dec 2017 06:35:17
Harry, VVD did not choose his price tag, Klopp and the club did. So the person who has no excuses now that he has his man is Klopp. VVD will need time to bed in and people like u need to get off his back.

30 Dec 2017 08:15:01
As the Eds and numerous posters have said forget about the money paid for players.
I'm sure VVD price will soon be beaten and maybe by a keeper (and not by us 😁) .

30 Dec 2017 09:00:37
IB is right Vvd didn't put the price on the table Southampton an lfc did an to be honest we caused that ourselves. Get behind the bloke an back him instead of all sticking the knife in, bloody hell you'd think this money was coming out your own pockets.

30 Dec 2017 09:07:52
Jim I’ll give you a name that totally negates your argument Alex Ferguson. I’ve grown up watching football since the early 80’s so have seen the rise and fall of both Liverpool and United.

He was not able to win a League title until the 92/ 93 season, he joined in 86. The club floated on the stock market in 91 enabling Ferguson to invest even more heavily in the team and to expand Old Trafford.

I’ll give you an example, they broke the British transfer record in 89 in buying Gary Pallister for a cool £2.3m a huge amount for the time .

So you see, this coupled with the money from the Premier League was the main reason he was able to knock “Liverpool off their Perch”.

30 Dec 2017 09:50:18
Last June targets were salah vvd ok and Keita we all said no chance of landing all 4 ox turned down staying with arsenal or Chelsea Keita had loads of offers vvd last summer city they all came to us it took us a while but well done to klopp and he s board I having said this for a long time but that is brilliant transfer business.

30 Dec 2017 09:52:13
The price is purely down to market forces, supply vs demand.
We know Man City want a defender, they nearly bought Jonny Evans in the summer.
We know Man City have much more money than we do.
We know there are not a lot of tall central defenders who have pace and strength, good ball skills and experience of playing in the premier league and who are eligible for this seasons champions league.
Therefore, if you want this rare player who is wanted by one of the recently successful and cash rich rivals, you have to pay a high price.
The price doesn’t concern me one iota.

30 Dec 2017 10:20:52
United broke the transfer record in 1981 for Bryan Robson. United always backed the Manager. Continuity change the tide from Liverpool to United.
Liverpool lost influencial people like Paisley Tom Saunders, Twentymen, the Chairman Smith. players like Hansen Dalglish. We threw money at trying to get back to the top. United kept faith with Fergie and backed him. Fergie retiring and a lot of his backstaff leaving, players getting old went the same way. To build a successful team with longevity requires continuity as well as good players and money.

30 Dec 2017 11:02:41
I don’t think Harry is necessarily saying it is up to VVD to improve the defence by himself, I think he is saying that if Klopp/ LFC think he is worth £75mil then the expectation is that the addition of VVD will be the quick fix we need to improve the defence and remove the deficiencies.

How anyone can dislike a comment which states that spending that amount should fix a problem is beyond me.
If a £75 million pound player does not fix any deficiencies then someone, somewhere in the club should be sacked/ shot for wasting a massive sum of money for no good reason.

30 Dec 2017 11:03:21
are defensive record is not bad this year it has been 5 bad games Watford man city spurs arsenal Seville, apart from the city game when we was playing good till mane got sent of all the other games have been individual errors how can you blame that on klopp.

31 Dec 2017 01:07:51
Forget the price. only an idiot woild be critical of klopp and co if they deem a "quick fix" hasn't been achieved. Klopp is bringing him in long term, not to appease knee jerk fans.

29 Dec 2017 23:21:32
There does appear that at the very least he is considering a move to Liverpool. let's hope tha Klopps contacts with Germany will hold him in good stead. He is a quality attacking midfielder, great header of the ball, 6' 2" helps I suppose, a real driving force and very well rated as a great young german talent.
If we get him, it would certainly make a big improvement to the team. I don't have any information to confirm we will get him, just a little of my own internet research i've done in the last few days, which makes it seem plausible?

Believable5 Unbelievable0

29 Dec 2017 23:39:08
who is it you are talking of?

{Ed002's Note - Goretzka.}

29 Dec 2017 23:40:34
Think he’d be a great addition. Specially if it’s on a free. May help with FFP. The Ed’s in particular Ed002 has said we have made our interest known to his rep. Time will tell what he chooses to do.

29 Dec 2017 23:41:33
Ah, of course. Cheers Ed2.

30 Dec 2017 06:37:19
Don't think Goretzka will happen. Would rather someone who can sit in front of the defense and spray passes and start attacks. We already have Keita, Lallana, OX and Gini to play the B2B roles. We need to upgrade the Henderson position and my preference is Paredes or Rabiot. Goretzka plays further up the pitch.

30 Dec 2017 10:37:07
Ah yes, the good old pass sprayer. Sees a 60 yard diagonal and plants it on a sixpence whilst simultaneously managing to make 8 defensive players lose their mind and run up the pitch, thus leaving space in behind. Genius. Or in other words, we need an attacking defensive midfielder who with one foot stops a goal then creates one with the other. Yarp, sounds good. Javi Alonscherano is a name that springs to mind. Cracking stuff.

Maybe while we're at it, we hijack George Weah's attempts at a political career and get him to teach Mignolet how to dribble the length of the pitch. Create some sort of keeping striker and bypass the need for the rest of the team perhaps? Saves his Liverpool career and becomes a cult hero all at once. DONE!

{Ed025's Note - i enjoyed that..

30 Dec 2017 11:01:18
Goretzka and Kieta is exactly what you call a double pivot! Both are brilliant on the ball and equally good off the ball. This could also end any persuit of a DM or a Specialist holding Midfielder in the summer!

30 Dec 2017 12:46:27
Haha brilliant mate.

29 Dec 2017 10:58:05
Maybe Ed025, but Klopp's judgement on defenders and goalkeepers is pretty bad imo. He kept an average joe like Weidenfeller as his first choice custodian at BVB for his entire tenure and MIgs is the gift that keeps on giving during Klopp's regime at LFC. Could not hurt to let someone else deal with the GK situation.

Believable1 Unbelievable5

{Ed025's Note - i have said the same all all along IB, klopp needs help when it comes to defensive issues mate, he is a very stubborn guy though and i cant see him addressing the issue anytime soon mate..

29 Dec 2017 22:37:14
He eventually replaced him with Burki whos not much better imo.

29 Dec 2017 23:19:35
I love Klopp but he needs to start giving a damn what fans want, we can all see Migs is useless and shouldn't be starting, he indeed is been too stubborn and needs to get a grip with it, his decision to play Migs has cost us a lot of points this season. Who knows, the club shocked us by signing VVD, they may shock us by signing another GK in January but personally I'd prefer seeing Karius given a chance until the summer.

29 Dec 2017 23:49:36
You can’t ice in to fan demands, that’s foolish. 1) just look st this site, the opinions vary so much! How could Klopp sell Henderson and at the same time give him a pay rise for being amazing? 2) he’s the one in the know not us, quite frankly fan power would ruin the team and all the hard work put in.

30 Dec 2017 00:39:26
johnbarnesleftpeg - I agree it is foolish to ice in to fans demands BUT, he did with Karius did he not? fans destroyed Karius because of a few mistakes after, let's note, him having a broken hand and he got dropped because of the pressure - so what's his excuse with Mignolet? Yes he is the one in the know, but anybody with a brain can see Mignolet isn't the man to be in goal for us apart from Klopp.

I will say again, I love Klopp and stand by him the majority of the time but the way he is so stubborn with playing Mignolet is wrong.

Yes the site has many opinions but I think regarding Hendo, people who actually watch him play and know football well, know he's a good player and respect him, he's not getting the grief Mignolet is.

Fan power would ruin the team I agree, but Klopps Stubbornness is costing us and it needs to stop, it needed to stop a couple of years ago yet we're still here, you can back him up with this situation all you want, the majority of fans knows Migs shouldn't be in goal and it's a huge mistake by Klopp having him there.

Overall I'm chuft with how we have performed this season, but we'd of been better off without Migs in goal, that's reality.

30 Dec 2017 04:23:15
SALAH

You want Klopp to listen the fans? Oh boy He did and why we have a problem called Mignolet. Had he stuck with Karius and not listend the fans we would be fighting for the second spot and not scrapping for the 4th. The only mistake Klopp did was to drop Karius when he would have stuck with him in his need!

30 Dec 2017 06:38:26
And Weidenfeller's replacement Burki is even worse. No better than Migs. Klopp is the last person to be trusted on GK issues.

30 Dec 2017 06:46:50
Harry, it wasn't the fans, it was ridiculous media criticism from idiots like Gary Neville that led to Klopp dropping Karius. It was the wrong decision either way, so I agree there.

30 Dec 2017 07:36:42
When Karius got his chance last season he took us from top spot to virtually struggling to get top 4 in the space of about 7 games. Klopp had to rake him out whether the fans wanted it or not. As for his broken hand, he got that by punching his own defender in the back of the head instead of the ball. That says it all. I’ve got nothing against Karius personally and wanted him to be the answer when he signed but he has never looked the part when he had played. So, I can’t understand the love-in towards him.

I think we are 2 players away from a Premiership title and challenging for the Champions League on a regular basis. Obviously goalkeeper is one, as the 3 who are there are not good enough. The other is a defensive midfielder. Henderson is not a natural there and it looks like he will be one of these players who is always injured. Even if Can stays, which is very doubtful, he hasn’t got the brains or mobility to play in that position.

Now that FSG seem to have realised that the only way to make money is by being successful, let's hope that they can continue to hack Klopp in the transfer market to bring 2 quality players to the club to address these 2 positions.

{Ed001's Note - are you being serious? He kept a clean sheet in a run of games before injuries to the central defenders that saw us struggle. Nothing to do with this idiotic personal vendetta you have against one player.}

30 Dec 2017 09:31:36
Is this the same karius that's seen us through a champions league group and topped it to boot. I think some people just want to slate just for the sake of it.

And yes the fans DID contribute to the pressure on top of pundit criticism. I saw plenty of people on here calling for him to be dropped and very few people defending him during that period.

We may never know what would have happened had klopp stuck by him but there's little point debating it now. Klopp made his preverbial bed with regard to this situation and he now needs the cohones to make the right decision. Whether that is to bring in karius now which is highly unlikely or get in someone new in the summer which is what i suspect will happen.

Where this leaves karius and ward i don't know but if klopp does bring in someone new i can see all our current keepers looking towards the exit sign for a way out.

30 Dec 2017 09:54:06
Whatever the reason Klopp dropped Karius, it surely doesn’t continue to explain why he has not selected him in the premier league.

30 Dec 2017 09:59:00
I’m totally serious Ed and I don’t have a vendetta against Karius. He is just not good enough and neither is Mignolet. I can remember him costing us points in quite a few games, culminating in the car-crash Bournemouth game.

Clean sheets don’t always tell the full story of a goalkeepers performance. Look at Ederson against Newcastle. He could have got that clean sheet sitting in an armchair reading the match day programme. We may have topped the Champuons League group with Karius in goal but Seville slammed 5 past him in 2 games. I agree they were not all specifically his fault but a top keeper saves at least a couple of them. That’s my point.

{Ed001's Note - if you say so but your posts are full of pathetic slagging off of the player. There is no critique of his performance just abuse of him.}

30 Dec 2017 11:46:11
Apologies Ed1 if it comes across like that, but I would love nothing more than Karius to step up and become great. My posts are more getting at some posters on here who probably never saw him in Germany, have watched his games here where he has pulled up no trees, yet still keep putting him forward as the answer to all our problems, based on the fact that De Gea was crap in his first season and is now great, so Karius will be too. I support all Liverpool players and would never criticise him during a game but this banter page is about opinions and my opinion is that these posters are wrong. Nothing against the lad himself.

{Ed001's Note - thats ok but you are genuinely coming across like you hate the lad.}

30 Dec 2017 13:27:21
Karius could not have done anything about any of those 5 Sevilla goals. Did u even watch the games against Sevilla? Blame our s****y midfield for letting SEvilla walk all over us but stop blaming a GK who had no chance against point blank chances that Sevilla converted.

30 Dec 2017 13:28:11
Cheers Ed. I won’t mention it again after this. In fact, I’d rather Karius be given the shirt for all competitions until the end of the season if we don’t sign another keeper in January. That would be preferable to alternating with Mignolet as keeper rotation will hardly give VVD the best opportunity to settle in quickly.

I would never hate another human being (terrorists, paedophiles and murderers excepted) and have nothing against Karius. I hope he proves me wrong. I never had anything against Sean Dundee either but wasn’t pushing for him to be a regular.

Incidentally, last summer I had a bet with one of the Ed’s (can’t remember which one) that Mignolet would start the season as No 1. The Ed disagreed and the loser was to pay £20 to charity. If you can find out which one it was, please ask him if he has paid up.

{Ed001's Note - I don't know who that would be, or how I would find out, maybe I could ask Ed033 if he can look it up. It doesn't sound like something I would do as I don't gamble, but a charity bet is different so I can't even rule myself out when it was that long ago. If Ed033 can't figure it out, and none of the other eds remember who it was, pick a charity and I will pay them £20 anyway. I don't care if two people have an argument over who owes what from gambling but don't want a charity to miss out over someone having a poor memory!}

30 Dec 2017 14:02:19
If it helps it was under my other name of Kloppometor, but don’t put it in if you don’t know it was you. I’ll put 50 quid in myself if Karius wins us the Champions League like Dudek.

29 Dec 2017 21:43:40
Sell Couts (he's going anyway) make an offer to Arsenal for Sanchez (it won't have to be huge considering they've only got January to get anything for him) and offer Sanchez a large signing on fee
Couts replacement sorted move on to a keeper.

Believable3 Unbelievable11

29 Dec 2017 22:03:25
Not going to happen.

29 Dec 2017 22:03:46
I don’t mind people disagreeing with me but I’d like to ask those who do so, are you really saying you wouldn’t take Sanchez as a replacement for Coutinho?

29 Dec 2017 22:04:37
Not even similar types of played. Plus he’s shown no interest in playing for us before. We’d be better off going for Insigne or Lemar.

29 Dec 2017 22:05:48
Cobra, I’m pretty sure it won’t but I’d ask the question wouldn’t you?

29 Dec 2017 22:22:07
I wouldn’t take Sanchez as a replacement. He’s nearly 30, he hasn’t the finesse, range of passing or dead ball ability of Coutinho has refused outright to join us before and I can’t see that changing, plus he is not a like for like replacement.

29 Dec 2017 22:27:02
We all would but I think Cobra meant it's not going to happen in as far as Sanchez doesn't want to play for us and we probably can't afford him.

29 Dec 2017 22:31:19
I wanted Sanchez when Suarez left, but he will attract the big hitters in Jan and a huge amount of cash will be dangled in front of him for a pre contract agreement. I personally wouldn’t be surprised to see him at PSG.

29 Dec 2017 23:12:22
IF Sanchez wanted to play for us, which he does not, then yes I'd have him. But again he doesn't.

29 Dec 2017 23:50:20
Sell Anfield and by Messi? Silly talk.

30 Dec 2017 01:48:28
We wanted Sanchez as part of the Siaraez deal, he chose Arsenal over us. Great player but not for me now.

30 Dec 2017 04:16:06
Correct Nick-Sanchez is a great player who every manager/ fan would want, It just won’t happen.

30 Dec 2017 09:33:57
Mr dennis outlined exactly why i would not want him. Cheers mate 😆.

30 Dec 2017 09:54:46
I think Arsenal are going to let Sanchez go on a free.

30 Dec 2017 09:56:44
Salah picked chelsea over us forgive and forget Id say.

29 Dec 2017 20:20:09
Hey ed033! Have sent the match review for Liverpool vs swansea match.

Believable5 Unbelievable0

{Ed033's Note - Yes thanks, it is now an article as Liverpool v Swansea review

29 Dec 2017 20:42:07
Well done SW, good read mate.

30 Dec 2017 06:39:15
No to Sanchez. Too many tantrums for Klopp's liking.

30 Dec 2017 09:26:33
Thanx ed033! Thanx Salah for d feedback!

29 Dec 2017 19:52:09
for me 75mill for van is 2much, and where am having problem with him is that he is not quick enough, he plays like matip, if we play against fast strikers, only God knows what will happen, but who are my to question klop, cos he has done well signing good players since he came in, let watch and see.

Believable3 Unbelievable23

29 Dec 2017 19:58:29
Welcome to today, it was only a matter of time before 75m was paid for a defender, who cares anyway? it's not our money, its the clubs and they are trying to help us improve, he is an improvement no matter how you want to look at it therefore what's the problem?

29 Dec 2017 20:09:25
Not quick enough! Eeerm really?!

29 Dec 2017 20:25:35
Not quick enough to catch Salah, but plenty quick enough to catch the rest of the human race.

29 Dec 2017 20:35:47
quick enough to leave Southampton!

29 Dec 2017 20:49:38
Are you mad? He is as fast as centre backs get, in fact it contributes to his laziness at times because he knows he doesn't have to stay in position due to his speed at tracking back.

29 Dec 2017 20:59:02
Forget the money max. If he plays to his full potential, it’ll be a great signing.

29 Dec 2017 21:26:36
he's lightning quick!

29 Dec 2017 21:44:30
Ask Mane if he's fast for a 6ft 4" cbk after he caught him twice last season now mean feat.

29 Dec 2017 23:37:56
Tony, dun worry we not asking u to pay.

29 Dec 2017 23:38:43
wait to you see this boy play lads, he will probably leave you in a couple of seasons for Barcelona or real he's that good.

29 Dec 2017 19:48:51
Just thought I'd say good on Rhian Brewster. Takes a lot of guts to speak out against such a sensitive and disgraceful topic. I read the article in the Guardian, glad he didn't go to one of the tabloids, and it was sickening to hear some of the abuse he and others have suffered. What's even worse is the complete lack of action by FIFA and UEFA. Hopefully, Brewster speaking about racism passionately and honestly will change things for the better.

Believable22 Unbelievable0

29 Dec 2017 19:51:48
Well put mate. One would've thought in this day in age racism would be gone but how long have we been saying that.

30 Dec 2017 09:37:49
Not a sensitive topic at all it has been common place for decades and nothing will be done about it. Rhian is right to speak up about it but i fear his expectations will not be met.

29 Dec 2017 18:58:39

29 Dec 2017 21:41:15
Ed I think you meant RTFP 😁.

30 Dec 2017 00:30:38
Or FRTFPFFS.

29 Dec 2017 18:23:18
A question for Ed002, if you have the time.

It seems an apt time to ask with Liverpool signing Virgil van Dijk for a well documented world-record fee for a defender, and of course with the next round of TV rights bidding coming up. Do you see this increased spending on transfer fees, wages, agents fees etc carrying on this upward curve?

We've seen Neymar move for an unprecedented fee, Mbappe as well when his transfer is made permanent in 2018, Liverpool have rejected humongous sums of money for Coutinho offered from Barcelona - surely this can't go on forever. Surely the TV deals will soon tail off and the fees stop increasing at the rate they seemingly are? Or will this trend just continue?

I'd love to hear your thoughts, Ed!

Thanks in advance - and a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all the Eds while I'm at it!

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - These are only a handful of players at a handful of clubs. The media money is just for the Premier League sides. The rest of the world carries on as normal.}

29 Dec 2017 18:44:23
Thank you for such a prompt response Ed. I suppose it is only the English sides that benefit from the Premier League bidding rights and then there's only the likes of PSG, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich who have as much financial backing outside of the English top flight. I just never thought I'd see the day Liverpool sold a player to Crystal Palace for over £30m (Benteke) and of course ourselves buy a player for £75m! We shall see if it carries on! It only felt like yesterday that spending £20-30m on a player seemed like a lot! Now it's common place in the Premier League!

{Ed002's Note - Media income for the PL is far more than anywhere else. Barcelona and Real Madrid get less than the leading clubs. The clubs you mention in relation of financial backing earn their money from elsewhere. Eventually the whole thing may be levelled for the majority by the “elite” clubs breaking away.}

29 Dec 2017 18:19:42
Liverpool closing in on Leon Goretzka!

Believable6 Unbelievable8

29 Dec 2017 18:50:53
Hope so.

29 Dec 2017 19:03:40
The term "closing in", What does it actually mean lol. Porthos im not doibting whst your saying mate but why do you say that?

29 Dec 2017 19:15:25
Quite a few people/ papers reporting this. Another for the summer if it did happen, would be a great deal if we did get him though!

29 Dec 2017 19:26:51
*Doubting what.

29 Dec 2017 19:47:09
Would be a great signing. Him and Keita could be our midfield for years with both very young at 23.

29 Dec 2017 19:47:57
Now a days "closing" seems to mean some people on twitter said it!

29 Dec 2017 20:18:50
I’m salivating at the thought of the fab 4 wreaking havoc with keita and goretzka behind them in the engine room. A quality keeper and I’ll just blow my beans.

29 Dec 2017 20:26:09
Cheers Jordz. Thinking of starting a Twittet account tbh🤔.

29 Dec 2017 20:41:09
Still nothing in the german media which is odd when liverpool is either closing in or agreed something in advance. So don't get too excited.

29 Dec 2017 21:30:56
People see things like 'reported in BILD' and assume as its a German paper it's true - it's just another tabloid trying to get attention.

{Ed002's Note - Did anyone actually bother reading the BILD item?}

29 Dec 2017 21:45:42
Bild is like the Metro by all accounts, the mother of all tabloids!
Having said that, the Telegraph reported City were closing in on a £60m deal for VVD.6 hours later, we’d agreed a fee with Southampton!

29 Dec 2017 22:22:36
I take it your not a reader of Build Ed002🤔.

Happy New Years Eds
As ever thanks for your time and hard work doing this for all of us. I hope 2018 is a good one for you all. Oh, and good luck and the inevitable daftness that January brings.

Mourhino questioning Klopp over the transfer fee for VVD. Oh the irony.

He's clearly rattled, let's hope the United board give him another £300m so we might just see those toys back in the pram 😂.

Believable8 Unbelievable1

29 Dec 2017 17:37:02
As much as I don't like Mourinho, I think what he said was quite fair. Maybe you need to read the entire comment; he wasn't questioning VVD's fee really, but Klopp's comment about the inflated transfer fees few years back.

29 Dec 2017 17:44:27
It was Klopp who started about the prices. Remember him saying he believes in training and not signing?

29 Dec 2017 17:51:52
Klopp did make those comments yes but what is he supposed to do if that's the prices being asked these days? Ok what if klopp didn't buy Vvd who else on the market fits what klopp wants? Unfortunately klopp dropped one in the summer an he's paying the price for that now.

29 Dec 2017 18:09:35
I know exactly who made the initial comments. And I’m really not interested is prices.

Mourinho is clearly rattled.

29 Dec 2017 18:21:08
Mourinho has always spent too much of his time worrying about what others are saying and doing, its his way of deflecting the cristism he always gets, I find it entertaining but ultimately makes himself look like an idiot in my mind. Just like saying 200 Million isn't enough to compete with City, really?

29 Dec 2017 19:06:48
He’s just turned into a bitter old man!

29 Dec 2017 20:08:55
he just can't handle the fact he is so far behind pep. His interviews have become so boring, he has never looked happy since becoming Manchester utd manager.

29 Dec 2017 22:22:09
Mourinho may well be rattled but what he said was perfectly true. Klopp said he wouldn't do something and then did it, someone was always going to call him out on it.

29 Dec 2017 23:32:32
Maureen as lost it.

29 Dec 2017 23:35:30
Take a look at the carragher article in the telegraph, he pretty much nails the whole story. Mourinho deflecting as usual, he's not embarrassing for doing it, the people who still buy it are the embarrassing ones.

29 Dec 2017 16:17:37
{Ed's Note - we have posted a new article entitled, Liverpool vs Swansea - Match review

Believable5 Unbelievable1

29 Dec 2017 16:26:25
Another good article SW15.
I must be watching a different Robertson to you though mate. That's not me saying he's great but he's far from the weak link I've seen some make him out to be.

29 Dec 2017 17:09:41
Thanx Jayden! For me the fact that milner got behind the swansea defence a couple of times proved how poor Robertson was because he didn't use the space left by coutinho like milner did. I honestly hope he can become better like Moreno has cuz he has the ability to do it.

29 Dec 2017 17:22:47
Great article sw.
I wasn't convinced by can in this game he has games where he doesn't look interested and this was one of them. He pulled out of a few challenges and his passing was lacklustre and lethargic. Hopefully he ups his desire as we'll need him with hendo out. Really liked ox' performance, looked like the one in midfield trying to take control of the game.

29 Dec 2017 17:27:55
SW15 I thought he did ok against a terrible Swans team but has fitted in pretty well since he's come in due to Moreno's injury. 6 games and apart from the Arsenal goals (where he wasn't at fault) we've been pretty solid at the back. He almost produced one of the best assists of the season against swans with his 60 yard diagonal ball to Salah and it was his cross into the box after some nice play with Couts that led to TAA's goal. Like I said he's not great but I think he deserves to feel some of the love other players get for similar performances.

29 Dec 2017 17:50:30
I personally thought Robbo had a better game than you suggest, I watched in on TV from what I saw he didn’t get forward as much as he could have but his passing was very good. One pass in particular when he pinged it over the top for I believe Salah? Which was top notch. Still hasn’t been tested defensively too much imo. Great read though, keep up the great work you’re doing and thank you for doing them!

29 Dec 2017 23:31:20
Did you really just say “better like Moreno”. The Sevilla game alone shows that Moreno is still a liability.

30 Dec 2017 05:36:35
Thanx Rdp red and lfc leon!
Kingkenny92. surely u can't deny how much moreno has improved this season. At Seville, the occasion clearly got the better of him. But other than that he has been outstanding. Maybe even one of the best lb in the premier league this season.

29 Dec 2017 15:32:05
Well done to all the Eds in no particular order for the effort they all put in to maintaining the site (s) . As a lowly "football supporter" with little or no knowledge of the intricate workings of transfer matters and club workings I really do appreciate the level of information "shared" by the ED (s) . As frustrating as it must be for the Eds they must have the patience of saints or sarcasm of a devil to put up with and reply to the repeated "questions".

Keep smiling and have a good new year.

29 Dec 2017 15:14:17
See people talking about Draxler as a Coutinho replacement but I'd beware I watch every PSG game and the guy just has a bad attitude, totally separate skill set and he has been playing centrally but it's only because he isn't good enough to get in the attacking line.

Lemar or Ziyech would be a much better in my opinion.

Believable3 Unbelievable3

29 Dec 2017 16:21:19
Ziyech comes with his own set of issues, though a very decent footballer.

29 Dec 2017 14:36:31
Firstly wishing all the Ed's a happy crimbo and a good new year.

Second- for posters who haven't been on the site for long. It's taken me about 2years if reding this site to get to grips with the workings of football clubs be it transfers, scouting or the money side of the game. I've learnt shed loads from the Ed's by just reading.

The first few posts of mine were foot care as every time a new headline came in the press I'd be straight on asking. Now I just take em with a pinch of salt and wait for the info from the Ed's. The best posts for me are genuine quests abou the club and players as the Ed's seem to be more than happy to give the full low down on their knowledge which is most of the time amazing.

I really think Klopp is building quite a team an I'm pretty excited about the football we are playing now and the next few years for Liverpool. We are on the up an but by bit all the bad bits in the club are being put right.

Merry Christmas and a happy new year everyone.

{Ed002's Note - There are plenty more but they were a few from off the top of my head.}

29 Dec 2017 14:40:05
Can I ask where we find this list?

{Ed002's Note - It is on the pages somewhere - search on Lennon.}

29 Dec 2017 15:47:35
{Ed002's Note - Like van Dijk moving to Liverpool? There are many, many thers such as Diego Costa to Atletico, Diego Rossi to LA, Brooks Lennon to RSL, Anthony Ujah to Mainz, Sandro Wagner from Hoffenheim to Bayern Munich, Carlos Vela to LA, Vietto will go on loan from Atletico Madrid to Sporting Lisbon, Mario Gomez will leave Wolfburg to Stuttgart, Lucas Lima turned down interest from England and will join Palmeiras. Sevilla are splashing out a significant fee for Arana to join as left back in January etc., etc. }.

29 Dec 2017 13:41:56
Hi Ed002. I was reading some of the other pages and there's always a mention of a swap deal for players x and y. Obviously it rarely happens, and even more rarely does it happen where the two players are of equal value. My minimal understanding is that players receive a percentage of the transfer fee as a bonus. If these swap deals occurred, who calculates the value of the player? Is it something agreed upon before signing? A "tribunal" sort of thing? Or something else?

It seems clubs could also just treat players x and y as independent signings and avoid the whole "swap".

Thank you in advance ed, and hope you've had an excellent holiday with your 3 wives.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - A good question.

Players who do ask for a transfer get 5% of the fee. All transfers have a fee associated with them - even straight exchanges. It is set by an independent committee that sits twice a year and there is no route to appeal. Players, other clubs (if appropriate) and agents etc.. are paid based on this figure.

The holiday period has been fine thanks, although one of my wives (#2) has been travelling the whole time.}

29 Dec 2017 19:10:13
Lol sounds good ed. Thanks for the info.

{Ed002's Note - You are welcome.}

29 Dec 2017 13:14:47
I'd love us to sign a world class midfielder in the summer. Cans future is elsewhere, keita looks potentially very good but we haven't had a special midfielder in years. Gerrard was past his prime even four years ago and alonso was sold nearly a decade ago. I like Henderson but he's nowhere near the quality of midfielders we've had in the past. Coutinho isn't a central midfielder before he's brought up.

Believable4 Unbelievable6

29 Dec 2017 13:44:46
I had a look at Goretzka on YouTube, not reliable I know. Also not sure how reliable the interest is, I’d like to hear from ed02 if it’s genuine or nonsense instead of all the rubbish I read about him being in the bag as I don’t believe much unless ed02 confirms it. But from what I saw he looks a similar player than Gerrard, a driving force from midfield with a good range of passing with a good shot on him and an eye for goals. Like I said I just had a look on YouTube so not getting carried away as they highlight the good bits and can probably make Mignolet look half decent. Anyway it’s be nice hearing from people who have actually seen him play regularly to hear if he’s consistent enough and what sort of player he actually is?

{Ed002's Note - Schalke have offered Leon Goretzka a very good new contract and he is mulling that over whilst he is aware of offers from Barcelona and Juventus that will be formalised in January. Additionally his representatives spoke with three English sides in November and are also aware of renewed interest from Bayern Munich, although that is complicated by regulation. Arsenal having taken a new employee on board are certainly interested and I would not rule out Manchester United but he is perhaps third or fourth pick for them. For reasons that are beyond me, many Liverpool fans are convinced that he has already agreed to join the club. Liverpool's interest stems from when they were struggling to agree a deal for Keita and he was seen as a potential option but they have since returned to declare an interest with his representatives. Bayern Munich are making it known that they would offer a guarantee for the summer but they cannot speak to Goretzka in January - although they will continue to make their position clear to his agent. The player has said he would like to move to Barcelona. Right now he has an offer of a very significant package from Schalke that he knows other clubs will not match, offers coming from Barcelona and Juventus, an offer of a summer move with a significant signing on fee to Bayern Munich and interest from Arsenal, Liverpool and potentially Manchester United.

From the interested clubs you can see he is well thought of.}

29 Dec 2017 13:46:43
Goretzka?
Not world class yet but has the potential to be one. A midfield 2 of Keita and Goretzka won't look too shabby, will it?

29 Dec 2017 13:48:04
Keita has the potential to be very very good for us i don’t think you will be asking us to sign a midfielder this time next year.

29 Dec 2017 13:50:46
Leon Goretzka would be a massive coup! He is a very good player eyed by some of the heavy weights! A midfiled of Goretzka and Kieta would be brilliant!

29 Dec 2017 13:58:50
I think Keita is better then 'potentially very good' mate he's a top top player have you not seen him play? not a dig just asking. He's what we've needed for a very long time, I would love for him to be partnered with somebody equally as good as him but we'll see.

29 Dec 2017 14:05:29
Goretzka!

29 Dec 2017 14:06:51
Big al. Would goretkza or lemar do?

29 Dec 2017 14:58:41
Great update ed thanks. Jesus looks like he has a string of top clubs to choose. Barca, Juve, Bayern all interested. I guess we will see what develops.

Is there any change in the scenario?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - he has suffered injuries again, so a lot of the games do not count regarding work permit.}

29 Dec 2017 09:39:19
Do you think he was a waste of a buy Ed1 mate? Personally I do, although he has impressed me from what I've seen which granted isn't alot. How many injuries has he had since he came in, would we expect to see him loaned out/ sold in the summer?

{Ed001's Note - right now he is a waste, but you can only really judge a signing when they have left. He could burst into the team and be brilliant, but right now he looks way off a place in the side.

He has had a couple of injuries, but nothing that should have long term effects on his career.

It is too early to say what will happen with him in the summer, as he has a few months to get in the team and hold down a place, with Can going. Right now, I would expect him to be on the way in the summer, either loan or sold.}

29 Dec 2017 10:20:44
Grujic's prospects at LFC are over mate. We have Keita and potentially Goretzka coming in the summer. That's our first choice mids with Hendo, Gini, Lallana and OX ahead of him in the pecking order. No way Klopp picks an untested midfielder before so many experienced options.

29 Dec 2017 10:39:05
It's seems a lot of the Serbian eastern European good players don't settle that we'll in premiership the likes of voronin shevchenko rebrov pavlyachenko, markovic, grujic too name a few even lovren too a certain extent they all seem too have struggled too show best football in a regular basis, I can only think of modric who has really shined.

29 Dec 2017 11:19:49
We have made a habbit of messing up players career lately. Luckily Coric escaped from that trap!

29 Dec 2017 10:12:04
Cheers Ed1, I have everything crossed he can get into the team and impress us all. Still very young.

{Ed001's Note - fingers crossed.}

29 Dec 2017 13:17:23
I read somewhere tha klopp said he wasnt mature enough. doesn't get more damning than that.

29 Dec 2017 23:26:23
How have we messed up players careers? Ward was brought back to play in the league cup, but we got knocked out in the first round. Crujic has been injured longer than he has been injury free. Divok Origi didn't show enough when the opportunities arose. Klopp's main and only concern should be to put out a team to win the game. It is up to the players concerned to show in training that they deserve to be in the team, just like TAA has done, and Woodburn did. Most fans pay their money to see their team play well and win, not put fringe players in, to see what they can do.

28 Dec 2017 22:21:12
Ed1, do you reckon there's any more business to be done in January? It's just I've been hearing Goretzka is very keen on a move to Liverpool.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - it is unlikely, FFP will make it difficult for much more to be done.}

29 Dec 2017 09:12:29
Regarding ffp ed, if we were to make any signing similar to the Keita one would that only affect expenditure in the following season or when the deal is struck?

Cheers.

{Ed002's Note - The money counts in the season it is due and paid. So for Keita, part this season (the additional sum) and part when the transfer fee is paid.}

29 Dec 2017 09:47:23
So out best route for signings would be securing free transfers for the summer? Would that be correct?

If so there are four players out there that would be decent buys ( or all of them obviously) .

Gimenez.
De Brij.
Meyer.
Goretzka.

{Ed002's Note - I have certainly never said that. Whatever clubs do they need to comply with the FFP regulations - and they cover money spent, the amount of money the owners can put in to the club to help out with transfer and wages.}

29 Dec 2017 10:11:14
Cheers Ed.

29 Dec 2017 10:13:41
I'd take Gimenez and Goretzka from that list. The VVD fee would balance out if we got two brilliant players on pre contracts.
But there seems to be a lot of interest from many top sides in those two players. Klopp will do well to get those two signed up.

29 Dec 2017 10:22:58
How do people always come up with the 'this will mean that' theory? You can't guess what will happen. The eds know how it works and mostly where interest lies etc but can't give answers based on ifs, buts and maybes. I'm surprised the straw industry has any left to sell with the amount people are clutching!

29 Dec 2017 01:04:33
Hi Eds and Reds,

In light of our most recent signing, would be good to gather some thoughts. We have signed many potentially decent defenders over the years, who have appeared to make no difference to our ability to defend properly. Under KD, Agger, Skrtel, Enrique and Johnson made up arguably the best defence in the league. Agger aside (god only knows why he was sold), we have seen these guys go to sh*t. We have had defenders come in who it just hasn't worked out for, im thinking Lovren and Sakho in particular, but also possibly Klavan, and maybe Matip (I quite like him, but opinions seem to be mixed) . I'm a little worried that we are pointlessly throwing money at the wrong problem. Is it more a problem with our coaching or system than the players? We have just spent £75m on the guy who is meant to solve our defenders issues. What are your thoughts?

Cheers.

Believable0 Unbelievable5

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool are in need of a solid CB and van Dijk has the chance to apply himself and be a real good defender. The price is well beyond what others would’ve paid but it is the end result that matters.}

29 Dec 2017 02:31:50
Sakho had a terrible attitude, just terrible and didn't deserve to be at Liverpool, He had messed up at previous clubs and continued to do so at Liverpool. If he had a professional head on him, it could've worked out for him but he blew it.

Lovren and Matip just aren't good enough and never was, not for us they wasn't not if we are wanting to go for champions league places and the PL title. We have splashed the cash on VVD, personally I'd of been against the transfer to begin with, I was. Having said this, money is irrelevant, he is an improvement, he's a Liverpool player now and he gets my 100% support. The club are going all out to try and improve us and I am thankful for that.

VVD is better then any CB we currently have that's for sure, I think he may surprise us all as Ox has done, VVD hasn't had the greatest of starts to the first half of the season but it's hardly surprising going on what's gone on with him since the summer.

He alone cannot sort out the defence but he is an upgrade and it shows we are improving slowly but surely, it's a start. Some people are moaning about the transfer, may I ask those people who we could've (realistically) / should've got instead of VVD? There's not many out there, good defenders these days are hard to come by, there's no doubt this lad is a good defender, one we've needed for quite some time so I say good luck to the lad and let's give him our full support, forget the money aspect, it's completely irrelevant.

29 Dec 2017 05:17:46
VVD is excellent in bringing the ball out from the back. Top class vision in picking a player ( Why Pep was rightly behind him ) . He is tall and brilliant header of the ball ( A much needed to our defense ) He has pace which is essential when you play high line.

What he is not good at! He needs a clam head alongside him something we don’t have atm! At times he believes he is a Messi and charge high up like a bull!

We might need another CB in the summer to partner him. I could see a new whole backline in the summer!

29 Dec 2017 06:43:06
Klavan is also good at passing from the back, Matip and VVD add the height and muscle we should be a lot stronger at defending set pieces which might make Mignolet look good.

29 Dec 2017 07:29:11
KingCarlos, my grandma has more muscle than Matip.

29 Dec 2017 08:39:28
Mignolet wouldn't look competent even with Baresi and Maldini in front of him. As pleased as I am with the van Dijk signing, we really need to be looking for a goalkeeper if Karius doesn't get his act together.
As for Matip, the quicker he is phased out, the better. He's a poor defender who buckles under pressure even faster than Lovren.

29 Dec 2017 11:49:50
Backwards Hendo or Harry for short, all our CB's can pass out of the back very well cos they would not be here if they could not do that as Klopp demands it. Now, VVD will not suddenly make Migs stop costing us games. VVD will not solve our defensive shape in midfield or lack thereof. A lot of more needs to be done to make us better all round defensively.

29 Dec 2017 12:10:31
BRover
He has to be an immediate improvement on our current defense. £75 mill is not a small sum for any player. I am
Sure he is one of the many changes happening at the back. Can you clear why we splashed such a huge sum if he isn’t going to improve our GD!

29 Dec 2017 00:00:35
If our business in January is (including deals for summer) are.

Akanji. (Summer) .
Meyer. (Summer free) .
Goretzka. (Summer free) .
Keeper.
Keita.

That's a positive start for me hopefully Brandt also.

I expect a fair few departures come the summer.

Coutinho.
Can.
Milner.
Matip/ Klavan.
Origi.
Sturridge.

Believable7 Unbelievable4

29 Dec 2017 00:49:55
I think Klavan will stay ahead of Matip or Lovren. Klav seems way better suited to a third choice CB than the others despite his age. Most consistent CB we have right now so seems silly to jettison him this summer.

29 Dec 2017 09:48:49
He’s free.

29 Dec 2017 23:27:02
