We should take advantage of our poor neighbours and put a bid in for jagielka, the lad is happy at everton but moyes has said if the right offer came in he would have to accept to pay banks. Trust me this lad is class and would make our back 4

29 Aug 2011 23:09:43
Someone please answer me!

Why are we looking rid of Meireles?
I dont get it is there more to the story?

There was a verbal agreement that if he played well last season he would get offered a better contract. He feels he deserves this new contract but we are not offering him one. he ain't happy!

i hope to god we sign adam johnson, hes superb.very unfortunate at city.could be to our advantage.sturridge, affeley, bellamy be good also.van persie be outve this world, tend to think another aguero esq rumour sadly

Not unfortunate...he went there for money...if he thought they wouldn't be buying players that were better than him then he is naive...

29 Aug 2011 23:05:51
Is there a genuine intrest in adam johnson or is it just a load of s**te ?

Interest is likely, but city have no need to sell him.

I appreciate rumours sites need rumours but some of the links on here in recent days are ridiculous.

Why can't people see what's in front of them ?

We did our main business early and then there was a pause while we concentrated on outgoings. Enrique was done on our terms and with Soto going it frees up a place for a CB. I'm delighted we're closing in on Coates for c £7m as this is way better business than paying more for Cahill/Dann. The sale of Ngog frees the club to sign a striker and its smart business to go for Bellamy on loan as we get proven quality now when we need it but can invest in a top quality younger striker next summer. Right-side is the only other area needing to be strngthened and Yossi in and Raul out makes perfect sense to me as we can nip in and use the cash from this deal to sign Zaha of Palace who's a long-term target. I just hope all the deals fall into place - what I do know is that LFC will not be spending £10m + on anyone between now and Weds night. Owners had earmarked c £50m in "new" money for squad strengthening and that's roughly where we're at. Next year will be 1 or 2 major signings only as the focus switches to the ground.

Lot of rumuours going around, just read on BBC website about interest in yossi? Any truth? Do we not have enough quality in creative midfield. With addition of Coates, we'll only surely be possibly looking Bellamy, what chances of Bellamy signing and if that fails is their a viable alternative lined up?
Be shocked if any others come in, our bench this season has looked very strong IMO, a far cry from benches at times last season.

He's chasing owen hargreaves

My god, i didn't realise, that's even worse, lol, he's a bigger crock than michael owen, lol, wenger after yossi, past it, redknapp after hargreaves, never going to have to be past it because stay fit for 10 minutes, top 4's looking very good for us this season

the real Paul Tomkins just tweeted that the Italian media are suggesting that Liverpool have enquired about loaning Zarate...

I know the name but no idea on his ability if anybody can fill me in?

Cheers

He was on loan at birmngham 2 year ago n was knocking them in for fun n sweet finisher, lot of teams will be interested in him id imagine

Perfect player to come in i think. great back up 2 suarez and can play on the right wing if needed. would also link up well with suarez.

He is a talented footballer and very quick...surprised if he is offered on loan...

29 Aug 2011 22:01:32
Why is the coates deal taking so long? i know there is problems with his international clearance but this is dragging on too long, is the deal still on? {Ed009's Note - It is a bank holiday Monday, deals stop.}

29 Aug 2011 21:58:39
Isn't it great now, in a space of a year or so were going into games very confident of a win and not of just hope that we win better days are here again,on the last few transfer days left I'm predicting some shocks bids for big players like us just like in January. Cheers love this site pk

Hi ed's,
Elia rumours say two English clubs interested, and he would prefer a move to England. Hardly Liverpool? Just thinking who the possibilities would be, would surely be a top six side.
Cheers,
Bommy {Ed009's Note - I am afraid I have not been following the player's situation closely of late. I do not see him making the move to Liverpool.}

It's arsenal who will sign Elia he apparently mentioned it on Dutch tv

I read an article about him negotiating with Juve.

We will defo sign Seb Coates for 7 mil before the end of the transfer window! Also the only position we are weak in is right midfield... and Adam Johnson will never get played at man city and will be wasted talent there. He is young, english and will suit liverpools style of play... i will be very surprised is kenny does not attempt to sign him for maybe 10-15mil... Also a bonus signing would be Ibrahim Affelay from barca! he is never going to get played over Sanchez and Pedro at Barca... he will also be a wasted talent and if if we can get him for below 10 mil it will be a great signing. With those signings we will defoo make top 4 this season! :)

LFC till i die!

F***in win the lge then with them signing n the captain coming back no mind 4th

29 Aug 2011 21:50:26
Didn't we learn a lesson from VDV move to spurs last year? I mean bellamy, another older but class signing will slip thru our fingers if we don't go after it. Impressionable as Harry is, anyone targeted by us maybe hijacked, esp the free ones. Reminds me of that rat-morphing fella in the potter movies, ready to dip his new silver hand into the cookie jar lol... azkop

29 Aug 2011 21:48:27
I know I'm stating the obvious but I feel like reading something else rather than who's our latest target or the lack of goals from Big Andy.

Just watching a bit of Barca's match. 5-0 already. Madrid scored 6 in their game. With the huge scores in the prem this weekend I do fear for the future of the game as we know it. The teams with the money cement their position year on year and at some stage many of the 'lower' teams will see little point as they will never attain the income to seriously challenge. many of them arent making that much of a profit for their owners as it is. This certainly, IMO, has ramifications for the prem. What are everyone else's thoughts on this? I know the new fair play rules are meant to be a step in correcting the imbalance but since City have already found away around them..well what 'is' the point?!! UEFA wont have the balls to challenge City..or will they? I guess if they went on and won the Champions League in the next 2yrs Platini would have something to say. I care about the game in general as well as our club. {Ed009's Note - I hope everyone here gets involved in this rather than any more petty debate. Very important, very interesting topic in my mind.}

Never a truer post. The rich will get richer the poor get poorer and all of us who love the game will lose out. The top leagues will eventually end up like the Scottish League, interest will dwindle Sky money will disappear and the Oil money will be invested in the next big thing.

Man city of this world have blown it sky high, wage n transfer fee caps should be implemented, for starters,
5 gold starsi always think those smaller clubs that are dicing with administration n going out altogether very sad,
5 gold stars

Football has been eroded for decades now. Rather than a competition and the working mans interest it has been hijacked ordinary fans priced out of their own stadiums and many unable to afford or unwilling to watch Sky. Football now is a crass marketing business a stinky trough that is ultimately eating itself through greed. Great clubs and institutions are but and sold and debt foisted for a quick profit. New stadiums offer higher ticket price more corporate boxes and less atmosphere. Affinity to a club is now like your favourite fast food outlet, millionaire players totally disconected from the fans care little who or where they play for. JOCK STEIN, BILL SHANKLY, BOB PAISLEY AND CLOUGHIE wouldnt recognise they way the working mans game has been stolen.

BIG MONEY HAS DESTROYED ALL SPORT

I think the game is certainly coming to a crossroads throughout Europe.

UEFA want reform, but when it comes to enforcing it, will the big clubs do as they are told? If not, then a breakaway superleague is a very real possibility again. The Champions League was set up to stop this happening, but it has helped create the monster clubs we have now and the clubs are so rich and powerful they can basically do what they want.

Competition is what makes football great, but almost every European League is becoming less competitive because the same teams are getting the Champions League money year after year.

Predictability is the death of any sport.

IMO , this has far reaching ramifications, here's a hypothetical situation, for example in 2 years time should you say had a sitiation where Man City play Malaga champs league final, Malaga to qualify via 3/4 th play in Spanish league. Would Platini challenge both clubs, as they both have and will plunder more money in the pursuit of success.if uefa and FIFA are going to properly implement fair play financial rules, will the neauvaux rich be targeted, the emergence of these clubs new found financial clought , with all the money they will generate , will they punished as a result.

IMO Financial Fair play rules are fantastic in theory but their implementation seem to be quite difficult. A club may plunder hundred of millions and may seem to have an unfair advantage over opposing teams, yet at the same time, who's gonna generate more more money for uefa regarding the champions league, noveaux rich Man City or their less well of Swiss counterparts Basle?

FIFA/UEFA would be comitting financial suicide in trying to take on the super powers of football, because in footballing terms, money really does make the world go round, and given current financial climate, footballing powers really do rely on the big club to keep the world turning!

Rebel_Red

This topic is the future of all football. The older I have become, the potential of money & it's ability monopolize this game has become apparant. Greedy players, owners who want clubs as playthings all so far away from the game as I knew it in 1977. I hope this gets discussed throughout the week, too tired for me tonight... but great post.

I'm worried that Foremer city chrman is now on the board of the F.A so he will , not object to the city naming writes

There have never been as many goals scored by the top teams as there has in the last couple of seasons. Where does it stop.
I am Australian and all sports in Australia including the A-league football have salary caps. It is brilliant. The same team hardly ever wins the competition twice in a row in any sports there, and it is quite often the case that when a team wins the comp, the next year or two sees them down the bottom of the table as they found it too hard to keep their title winning team together under the cap. There are exceptions in the a-league for 2 marquee players per team which is great and their salary is exempt from the salary cap so each team can still attract a couple of big name players.
However football in europe is a much different problem. Enforcing a salary cap would have to be europe-wide and would be met with alot of resistance and anger. It would make for a much better premier league though in my opinion.

Aussie in London

UEFA regulation is needed. If they walk as decisively as they've been talking then the "smaller clubs" should be able to compete after not too long. The thing that really interests me though is the scale of the gulf between the bigger and smaller teams. In Spain it is very bad because clubs control their own TV rights and smaller clubs can't generate half as much from their TV rights as Barca and Real Madrid can. But in England there seems to be a shake up of power. Last year's Prem was amongst the most competitive ever. It remains to be seen if a new "big 6" will be established but I doubt it will come to fruition. If it does then UEFA and the FA need to act swiftly

Red Ollie

Cracking post, as long as it's corrupt at the top, it will get worse.
UR

A salary cap like they have in american football & basketball is the only way to move forward.

This argument of the best players playing for the richest clubs who pay the highest wages has been around since the days when Real Madrid first started to try and sign all the best players in the 1950s Puskas and Di-Stefano spring to mind, there were lots of objections not least from Spanish fans even then.
Good post actually and maybe now the time is right for fans from all to unite and voice their objections to a handful of teams dominating every single competition.

As the capitalism now collapses, I believe football will return to its roots pretty soon.

UEFA will be powerless, dictated to by the big clubs. A friend in Napoli tells me how many obstacles were put in their way when trying to qualify for the Champions League as they have done. They upset the elite clubs and seemingly have gone out of their way to prevent them getting there due to decisions in games near the end of the season. Their FA also came up with a solution to help Italian teams progress further in Champions League by not having difficult games before or after European games, for all except Napoli, on you tube there is a clip of their president storming out of the press conference announcing "you are all pieces of s**t and head of cock, i am ashamed to be italian i will change country" Bigger teams here will get favourable treatment and decisions, further pushing them ahead of everyone else. After Liverpools situation in the last year or so I am pleased we have managed to turn that around so quickly or we would have been left behind, but hope we continue to do it the right way by not offering eages of £150-£200k a week, player son those wages will forever keep moving to chase more riches.
Salary caps must come in, let them earn more money from their sponsorships and endorsements, they should not get that much from 90/180 minutes work a week as a basic wage. At least our TV revenue is more fairly distrbuted, Spain is far worse with Barca and Madrid getting the lions share. I feel there is more favourtism there than the Premier League, and Italy has conitnually being rocked by corruption, but UEFA have never stepped in over the years with them, and is more likely to interfere with our league due to Platini's dislike of us.

I can't see how it will improve when it creates so much money for the people officiating it, there is no incentive for them to change it, they don't care how it affects smaller clubs down the chain, they care about the money in their pocket.

With Van Der Vart out several weeks, Modric Chelsea bound, think Gareth Bale could be poached from the spurs either now or during winter, what price could he be had for? Downing said recently he doesn't mind playing right side.

Hes injured alot n very over rated

Bale has good technique and Gerrard esque stride pattern but he is not hard enough. I would prefer Vargas or Hulk.

Not needed, will be overpriced and a flash in tha pan

29 Aug 2011 21:38:40
where do you think gerrard is more effective
Agree-for right mid
Disagree-for Centre Mid

As long as he is playin will do me

Behind suarez

433 should be the formation
reina
johnson, skrtel/coates, agger, enrique
lucas adam
gerrard
zarate downing
suarez

what a team

Up front on the right of a 3-4-3 or a 4-3-3...

His name in the squad sheet, would be enough to make me happy. Missing Captain fantastic.

We will definitely sign Charlie Adam, Jordan Henderson and Stewart Downing this window, can't reveal my sources but you heard it here first.

Di*k head man u fan = or a blue nose

To the replier, I do believe this was intended as a satirical joke at other posters who claim to have sources to ridiculously infeasible transfer rumours.

Ed or Macca I have been told that Arsenal are going to make a bid for Adam Johnson before the end of the window! If this happens I would be disappointed if we don't put in a bid ourselves! I'm told this is common knowledge that wenger is interested in him? Dubred

29 Aug 2011 21:11:52
hi ed i noticed a lot talk about affelay he/s injured about 2 weeks ago expected to be out for 5 wks thats why its been quiet about him {Ed028's Note - Thanks}

PLEASE don't have ago at me for what i'm about too post, i am after GENUINE replies and your honest opinions.
With the benefit of hindsight, does anyone else think that the Carroll signing was a bit of a panic buy with us losing Torres.
He seems not to have settle at Anfield.
This of course could be due to his injury when we bought him, but surely that should now be behind him.
With him starting on the bench on Saturday, and the fact we seem to play better when he is not on the field, i am wondering if Kenny now see's Suarez as his best option, especially as he seem's to be playing particularly well with Kuyt.
I can see, if his form continue's as it is, him being replaced by another player in the January transfer window.
I really hope i am wrong, and between now and christmas his form turn's around. But for me, at the moment, the jury is out.

(I think this may be best posted in banter Eds)

I think deep down we are all kinda thinking that to a certain degree, but he plays against stoke for me n if he knocks one in we will all think dif, he needs a lil more time , to be fair hes gonna get alot of balls played in rte on the head tru the season from adam gerard downing n hell get goals

5 gold stars

I could be wrong but didn't KK & DC confirm that we would of went in for him in the summer (now) if we didn't buy him during the January window? I could be wrong.

James Mc

Both Kuyt & Carroll share a lot of similar traits, but Dirk works his socks off. Once Carroll starts working hard chasing a bit more (which will come with full fitness) & knocks in a few goals a lot of people will all owe the man a huge apology. He just needs to up his work rate & the goals will come soon enough. But no player is worth £35m.

The kid needs time, give it a couple months I'm sure kenny will get the best of him. Cuz of his price tag everyone expects instant success lik the king sed we bought him for 5 years not 5 weeks.

As much as I appreciate you tip toeing around this subject. Carroll deserves as least another 6 months of time & support. I genuinely believe he has something to offer.

dd

Hold on there for Gods sake, 4 games played. 1 perfect goal disallowed and another scored. Brilliant option away from home especially

Fitzy

Blo*dy h*ll! He's still a youth player. Let's forget about the price tag altogether.
RHI

I agree James Mc - he was always a target for this summer, which is when Torres was supposed to leave. Torres wanted to leave early so we bought Carroll earlier. It wasn't a panic buy in my opinion - he was a target, just brought forward by circumstances out of our control. I think he will be imense for us - I think this year will see him score a good amount of goals, and next year he will go crazy in the league and Europe.

Macca who's the most likely to sign after coates?
cheers

Wilshere!!!

29 Aug 2011 21:03:48
----------------Reina--------------
Johnson---Coates---Agger---Enrique
--------Lucas---------Adam--------
Hendo/Kuyt----STEVIE G!----Downing
----------------Suarez--------------

Would love to see adam johnson or affellay come in as well to provide a bit more cover on the right if Kuyt is playing upfront or either of them are injured

Realy thinking it makes sense for SG to play on the right hand side. How strong and balanced would the midfield be then, him crossing from the right, downing from the left, adam spreading the ball around and Lucas cleaning up.

Fitzy

So 35m Carroll is on the bench?
I think not...
Jacob red

I dunno i reckon he needs to be playing just behind the striker a la torres era

Why does it have to 35m carroll why cant it just be carroll.

29 Aug 2011 21:02:12
i think after we sign coates, we should sign a right mid, i think we are one more player short of being complete

I have just heard that in October we will be unveiling a new right mid - I believe he currently lives in a resort town called Southporto and his name is Stefano Gerrardo

29 Aug 2011 20:44:29

Hello everyone. I am posting this as a call to arms.

I have been amazed how some posters have vented their fury when the snippets of info I have provided, have later become public knowledge. I had not intended to aggravate anyone with my posts. I got some info, I posted it, simple as.

I am a regular punter, nobody special. Recently however I have come into contact with someone who holds a priviliged position within the LFC family, who has been kind enough to make me, as an avid fan, aware of certain things happening inside the club.

I certainly would not compare my knowledge to that of Macca, who has proven over a long period of time that he knows what he's taking about, with regards transfers. Most of the info I am exposed to is no more exciting than injury updates or travel arrangements.

Certainly, other posters had mentioned Coates as a possible target. I posted about it after hearing 'from the horses mouth' we were making a move for him. I was excited about it. The same applies to Sturridge and Ruiz. I have no idea whether we'll land any of them. But I am certain we are trying to.

Lastly, I would like to apologise other people now posting under the name Mr Yellow. You will no doubt get some of the knives that were intended for me.

Mr Yellow

{Ed009's Note - Anyone found to be imitating Mr Yellow or any other poster who uses a pseudonym, and degrading their name, will be banned.}

That would be a stain on Mr Yellow's good name.

Mr Yellow,

Keep posting mate, it is good to read everyones post (within reason)..

One thing i will say is it is very difficult for people on this site to believe that people do actually have credible sources..

Right back to football, i believe Coates will sign and maybe Bellamy..

Will look forward to any surprises but doubt there will be any...

Well you obviously never heard them, or how aggressive he was in stating his facts according to him not opinion. If someone does have a valid opinion on Liverpool fair enough. If their just gonna talk out of their poo pipe to be a smart asse, then ye i'll defo mention what a tool he is. Oh didn't you read the post when i said he did a Frank Rikaard on Rudi Voller to a former teammate of mine,a lot closer to his face then his hair though. Ye lovely guy Robbie, the ultimate insult, i'll speak my mind and say he's been a tool since he took his first breath, still be one when he takes his last. Jonson6

hi eds please post on rumours page.this is not a rumour but i think is interseting.park chu young looks set for the gunners but is it true he will have to go to the army in 2 years time.thanks mate {Ed009's Note - That is a situation which requires clarification. Unfortunately, I can not assuredly give it. I imagine they will let him off his requirement due to being a shining light for Korean International recognition, or something similar.}

Ed009, our player KI Seung Yung (Celtic) apperently has national service to do also, but from what I was told, if he plays a certain amount of games for international side, he will be exempt, hope this helps Timalloy {Ed009's Note - That is what I was thinking. Thank you.}

29 Aug 2011 20:28:18
Ed, who would you prefer to see in a red shirt, afellay or johnson? Thanks {Ed009's Note - Johnson. I feel he is likely to stay with us longer and is proven to be a fantastic winger, in the Premier League. He is also the out and out winger of the two; Affelay is an attacking midfielder pushed out wide, and we have enough of those already.}

Thanks Ed, i always appreciate your opinions!

It's funny how people are trying to sort out the right pronunciation of "Coates". When the fella arrives, just ask him; why all the sweat?

In the Copa, the commentators were calling him Co-ah-tez. Not Coates or Kwahtez as some have suggested. We will se though.

Rush, the same Robbie Savage who said Liverpool are gash, k.k dont have a jar of glue what he's doing on Saturday morning gone and he could've spent the money better on better players. Just a complete asse ripping off Liverpool. Who used to play for Utd and another prick who couldn't hide his bias. He only does it to get people saying, dont Robbie Savage speak his mind, what a guy. Jonson6. Adam YNWA

I'm not defending his comments on Liverpool. I'm defending his right to have an opinion, regardless of what it may be. I just feel the insults he's been getting are uncalled for. God forbid someone should have an opinion that goes against Liverpool.

Rush

Rush, Savage is an over opinionated idiot! People do have the right to have opinions but when bias comes into opinions its no longer a credible opinion. Savage and his football opinions are terrible and we as Liverpool fans are not the only set of supporters who make this judgement. I think the man made this statement himself "I am like marmite you either love me or hate me" I gather more people think the latter of the man. He is very disrespectful to professionals and ex professionals that were twice the player he was. Robbie Savage is just a nobody who is very opinionated and would get a lot of reaction from fans across the board, that is the only reason he is a so called football pundit not because of his knowledge as the man has none. Sorry to go on, but the man has never helped himself.

James Mc

Savage is only one , lawrenson is another, hodgson, bruce. that t**t at blackpool, allardyce it goes on and on, all frightened to upset sir alex - f**k em all

This below is a scouting report by mirror on Coates. Good read on a player who may sign for Liverpool.
-------------------------------------------------
The 20-year-old defender, who was in the stands for the 3-1 win over Bolton on Saturday, is just waiting for his current club Nacional to OK the £7m deal before he is presented as a Reds player.

So, just who is this Uruguayan and is he any good?

In South America, Coates (pronounced Co-at-es) is no new kid on the block. He made his international Under-20 debut aged 17 in 2008 and began his journey that could take him from youth football to the famous Shankly gates in just over three meteoric years.

He joined Uruguayan side Club Nacional in 2005 when he was just 14-years-old. In early 2009 he made his first-team debut and helped the club win the league title in his debut season, as well as playing in both the South American Youth Championships and the Under-20 World Cup of the same year.

Young talent in South America will always get a chance to shine given the high turnover rate of those departing for European shores, but as with anywhere else in the world, it is rare to see a defender make a mark at such a young age.

Coates stock was on the rise and people were taking note of this 6ft 5in youngster, whose sheer physical presence set him apart from many of his peers. This, combined with an excellent ability to read the game and impressive technical ability for a man of his size, meant fans were already getting excited about him even when he was in his teens.

The Uruguayan national team are well known in South America for their Garra Charrúa style, a term used to describe their famous grit and determination on the football pitch. Think Terry Butcher in his blood-soaked headband, or Paul Ince on that famous Rome night and you will get the picture.

In recent years, centre-back and captain Diego Lugano has been the embodiment of this Uruguayan spirit: the rough, tough stopper willing to stretch the limits of physical play to benefit his country. With Coates emerging from the shadow of Lugano, comparisons were bound to be made and the youngster is even referred to by the nickname 'Luganito' in his homeland, which means 'Little Lugano'.

But this comparison is actually a little unfair on the twenty-year-old who, despite his sizeable frame, relies much more on his abilities to time a tackle and move into position early, than sheer physical robustness. Coates is also much more technically sound with the ball at his feet than the warrior-like Lugano, 10 years his senior.

He is not afraid to dribble out of defence, not in the charging, gung-ho style of a Lúcio, but in a composed manner, always looking to find a suitable pass to move the ball on.

Initially called up to the Uruguay squad for a World Cup qualifying play-off match with Costa Rica back in 2009, just months after his first-team debut, Coates would have to wait nearly two more years to make his debut for La Celeste , in the 2011 Copa America in Argentina.

Uncapped and taken as the fourth choice centre-back, Coates must have thought he had little chance of playing in the tournament, let alone starting. However, with first-choice Diego Godín sidelined before the tournament even started and Mauricio Victorino pulling-up with an injury after just one match, Coates was thrust into the limelight, and had to make his international debut in a major international tournament.

However, as anyone who witnessed the Copa will testify, it was impossible to tell that this was a player taking his first strides in international football, let alone one of such tender years. Coates was confident on the ball, dominant in the air and physically equal to the varying challenges presented by the likes of Paulo Guerrero, Lucas Barrios and Gonzalo Higuaín.

It was therefore little surprise that the Young Player of the Tournament award followed. In a continent famed for attacking flair, the best performing young talent on show was a young defender from Montevideo.

The offers have been coming in ever since, with Manchester City, AC Milan and now Atlético Madrid all amongst the list of rumoured courters this summer. Unsurprisingly, Nacional have dramatically raised their asking price for a player who no doubt could have been bought for £2-3million just months ago. The club are not exactly made of money right now, as with most others on the continent (outside of Brazil) and any offer would have been tempting.

But, despite confirmation of higher offers, it appears to be Liverpool who have won the race for Coates. The lure of playing alongside countryman Luis Suárez is said to be high among the reasons for this decision, but whatever the case, Liverpool are undoubtedly buying a talent.

At £7million, Coates represents little risk to the Anfield club. If successful, he is a real bargain, capable of replacing club legend Jamie Carragher with aplomb when the veteran eventually decides to call it a day. If it doesn't work out for him on Merseyside, the fee is low enough and Coates is young enough to allow the Reds to recoup their investment by selling him on.

There will no doubt be testing times as he adapts to the Premier League, and Nacional fans will tell you he is prone to the odd mistake over the course of a season. But for those who have witnessed Coates play, it is easy to believe that he will shine for years to come at the Anfield club, given the right support and nurturing.

Few defenders in world football can boast such success at such a young age and Coates has shown, albeit briefly, that he is surely bound for the biggest stage.

PS:Ed just a quick question do you expect a last day deal from us I have learned that Adam Johnson is up for grabs in open and Arsenal has made contact also spurs are in on the same.are we looking at him?
{Ed009's Note - There could well be some more dealings from the club, as we have long continued to look at attacking players. I have been saying for months that, provided they found a viable replacement, Johnson would be frozen out by Mancini. Whilst I do not know of any interest since our enquiry several months ago, he is exactly the sort of player we should be, and Kenny would, buy.}

Do us all a a favour - just a quick note will do - dont need chapter and verse - boring

Anyone know how long Kelly out for

Prob a month but the hamstring injury didn't look bad, i think he may have just tweaked it and felt something wasn't right and ddn't want to continue and cause more damage.

Kenny said it was a tight hamstring , good for us in that respect the international break

Was it just me or did Skertel look comfortable at right back. Not suggesting for a second he should play there, just that he always looks nervous but not on Sat.

Looks like We're gunna lose Bellamy and Benayoun, both to Tottenham, Im gutted.

JD

You're the only one. I'd only take Bellamy on a short term contract with moderate wages, nowhere near the £95,000 he's on a week at City. Benayoun was decent for us, if occasionly exasperating. But, he said a lot of negative stuff about the club upon his exit and he's an old player coming back from a serious injury. Better options available.

Rush

To be perfectly honest, I don't think we need either of them. We've got enough strength in depth already, and as aforementioned, I'd only take them on moderate wages too.

Guys, putting all rivalries aside, was it not the mark of TRUE FOOTBALL SUPPORTERS, the way the Arsenal fans stayed to the bitter end and watched their team go through that? Be honest how many of you would have just left early and go home? so well done you Gooners from a Celtic fan. hail hail Timalloy

Away fans have to stay behind after a game for about half an hour for safety reasons.
How many matches have you been to? :) Lol!

Well said mate if it was united the would have cleared off, remember when we beat united 4.1 old toilet was near empty come the final whistle says alot about the type of fans who follow a club through the good times and the bad times.

Id of stayed

They stayed because they have to. For safety reasons, away fans have to stay in the ground for a while after the game.

Rush

Yes I have been to lots of away games, and if away fans want to leave stewards usually let them as long as no trouble. anyway, how sad are you? not able to show respect to loyal Arsenal fans, REAL supporters of all teams respect that. Timalloy (next time leave a name to get involved in banter)

It was a joke Timalloy, hence the "Lol".
Geez Louise!
I'm a previous poster from a long time ago who would rather not post my name as i shouldn't even be posting.

Hi ed's, I am starting to get worried about our right back options. GJ and MK are injury prone, and the young lad is too inexperienced at this point. Do you think KK will consider a new signing or will he carry on playing Carra on the RB? {Ed009's Note - Carra's appearances at right back have been very rare over the past seasons, so I don't understand the insinuation that he will "continue" to play there. Even though both our first choice right backs are somewhat injury prone, together they should provide more than enough cover. We could always keep Degen, if you like?}

Skrtel looked very good at RB so if Kelly and Jonson are injured there should be no problem

I don't know who would beat us or Chelski to 4th. No other team even comes close.

If we get top 4 and Chelsea dont i will die laughing. Wrong move Nando

I agree with Ed. And Spurs have played United and City already and 'Arry will be making a few signings....so dont write off Spurs just yet

I know Ed but when you look at the quality they have at the moment it actually seems worse than us last year. They don't appear to be getting new owners nor have KK to save them.

Jonson6, you're really taking advantage of your day off today! haha, I've really enjoyed reading your posts today though :P

Ed you really think Defoe isn't good enough?? even for a back up option? {Ed009's Note - The question you must ask yourself is not whether he is good enough to be back up, but whether he is willing to be it.}

Good point ed, cheers!

Sounding a bit like Yoda there Ed 009, with the wisdom.

Defoe would be too expensive and probably unwilling to play second fiddle. Let's face it, he struggles to nail down a place where Crouch and Pavlyuchenko are his competition. He's not good enough and maybe too old. Ruiz would be an infinitely better choice. As would Jelle Vossen of Genk. (Not that we've been linked to him, he's just good.)

Rush

I think defoe would be a very poor purchase. He is so inconsistent, and would be a waste of money. Ross

Fair enough the Real KB, ye Rafa did get a lot me blame maybe he felt more wanted at Chelsea besides the money. I remember Ancellotti saying about us getting Cole around the same time Benayoun left for them. He said, Joe Cole might be more skillful but Benayoun has a better footballing brain or tactiction and we've got the best out of the deal. Maybe not word for word, but very close. To be honest if he came back, then he'd get my full support, if he never, i wont be losing any sleep over it like the worry i'm getting until Coates is finally unveiled as a Liverpool player. Oh and Red Ollie how you can even tune in to listen to Robbie Savage is also beyond me as is your ambition of posting we'll come 4th all the time and be happy with which defo is so beyond me i cant comprehend it. Nothing like showing ambition like is their. Jonson6

I think pragmatism is the way forwards at times. Many, myself included would take fourth if offered. It's not going to be easy. Of course I think we can finish higher, but getting back at the top table of European football is a must. Also, Robbie Savage is ok. At least he speaks his mind. I've got to disagree on Benayoun. He's a good footballer, but there's other options I'd much rather take at this point in time. I think Yossi will go to Spurs or abroad.

Not to be too schmaltzy but I have really come to love this site; the Eds, the frequent posters, the garbage rumours, the misplaced Aquilani affection, the "Aguero to Liverpool" saga, and everything else. I thought I would LOVE to be rid of the annoying bits when deadline day came but now that I look back on it, I spent a good portion of my summer free time checking this site (either on my phone at work or at home when I actually had free time) and will be sad to see the transfer window shut. Thanks for everything everyone. I will now cry at the end of "When Harry Met Sally" or some other anti-masculine activity.

Best,

After looking at everyone's posts about what our ambitions for this season, I've noticed a lot of people saying either 4th or 1st.

Would it not be fair to conclude that 1st is a goal, whereas 4th is more of an expectation? Just wondering whether anyone agrees with that. I'd certainly love us to win the league, but by no means do I expect it.

A.C.

I expect Champions League, anything higher will be difficult, but not impossible. I think we may just pip Chelski to 3rd as they are currently looking a little shakey.

1st is really ambitious,
especially after yesterday's result.
Manchester 13 North London 3
Top 3 a definite possibility,
right now favorites to finish at least 4th.

True we can't get too carried away with our excellent start to the season but we shouldn't get carried away with the mancs starts either, remember chelsea last season great start won nothing.

As a player, I like him though dunno if that last injury took it's toll. But I don't like how he left last time. I know ppl will say it was down to Rafa, but if he was so concerned about being first choice starter, what did he go to Chelski for ?
Not the money obviously.
Sinking ship and rat are the words that come to mind. In my humble opinion jonson my man.

He's a good player but he didn't half infuriate me. Too manyt twists without an end product quite a lot of the time. I'd only take him on low wages and a year contract. I just don't see the value in him. I'd rather we payed triple for someone like Ruiz or Affelay.

Saying he could've spent that money better then K.K was the ultimate insult and made my blood boil, then the player's he just ripped went on to destroy Bolton who gave City a , decent run for their money. Dear Eds, Not quite a rumour but many like myself who as frequent visitors to your fabulous Rumours forum (myself many times a day) would be interested to know if you see the IP addresses of posters as I am quite sure several people are posting and then responding to their own posts in different names. For instance, Mr Yellow seems to have made himself a fan club of his own and is talking to himself. You can tell it's him because they all miss out the apostrophes in the same place on certain words but get them in the right place on the same others...lol.

Please post your response in Rumours, we would all like to know this one. {Ed009's Note - Self promotion is a problem we often experience. IP Adresses are visible to us, but they change relatively often, so there is little way to monitor them I am afraid.}

Thanks for your response Ed9 {Ed009's Note - my pleasure. Sorry I couldn't post it in rumours, but we have enough of them as it is!}

Just a thought! if each person logged on to this site then each person would have their own unique account and therefore you would be able to gain more control for example disabling accounts of abusive posters. Love the site anyway but if you wanted more control in may be something that could be incorporated quite easily. steve068

I agree with Steve068. It would also help because you could easily see responses to all your comments and posts easily without having to remember what you responded to. A bit of dev work but you could also maybe have targetted advertising to offset the cost (and maybe even make a profit!)

Not gonna work, I think the best part of this site is the utter anonymity that allows all to post with impunity. Next thing you'll be looking sigs and reps and we'll have another KrapTalk

Ra1 1969, totally agree over Lucas. Its him and A.N Other filling the other centre midfield berth. Like yer said he has to win his place back on merit but that wont take long. If he can stay fit and i truly belive that he will, let all them pundits talk their s**te. Robbie Savage,a no mark pundit who said on Saturday before the game he could've spent the 100mil since the King took over better then the King. Besides Suarez he said we just bought decent to goodish players or words to that effect. Mightn't have been even more more insulting but what a prick. I sweare Eds last post about playing against anyone but did play against him at Utd's old training ground in the B team league, he was a centre forward back then and must've been coming back from injury because he was one me 2 over age players you were allowed to play. He did prob the most offensive thing any one can do to one of our players,i'll just say Rudi Voller had one his his hair after playing Holland at Italia 90 to one of our players, says it all you need to know about him. Playing Utd's youth team on their training pitch with all there mums and dads all taking the piss as big time charlie as some of their sons we were playing against. None stop badgering the ref and laughing talking pure s**t, like no other team's parents i'd played against. From us,to Everton to Blackburn to Blackpool was just the normal bit of banter you'd expect and if it was any me my parents i would've told em to keep stum your embarrassing me and that takes some doing. I bagged in a 2-2 draw with em in that match just thought i'd throw that in sorry but nothing gave me greater joy then baggin against spam. 4 in 6 games times i played against them i put us 1 up,4 league games,a Lancashire youth cup game at Old trafford the other time we played them was when Cantona was banned dor his Kung Fu kick, and he was MENT to be barred from all games me footy, but first Rochdale then PNE played them in behind closed doors friendly with mostly reserve team players in their sides, only Ronnie Wallwork went on from the team they put out that day to have any kind me career. Was their old training ground, proper ref's and lineman just both teams had to wear their training kits as some kind of decoy. It didn't matter, it was in the Star newspaper a day or 2 after complete with photo's of him and Steve Holmes one me our players, and all Utd got was a slap on the wrists. I'll get slaughtered dor this but he shoud've been and rightly so with how long my career lasted the best player i played against and he just strolled round making everything look so easy, but saying Cantona is the best player i've played against and baggin at Old Trafford no matter what happens in my life no one can ever take that away from me . And i'll swear on my dead fathers grave and my 2 Staffs lives over that. Anyway like i said, horrible guy made me look like Lineker with his attitude. He's only on their to cause some s**t, and he tinks wid his reputation somehow is a pundit thats just trying to s**t stair and not just with us. Whoever's on the couch with him he disagree's with everything they say. Not seen him with Garth i'll interupt who ever's speaking Crooks yet. Should be an interesting duel when it happens ha ha. Jonson6

Thanks Jonson but we didn't need any evidence for Savage being a pr!ck lol

I've stopped listening to 606 since Savage started. The Radio 5 producers need to think again as I don't know anyone who finds him in the slightest bit interesting or entertaining.

Savage is opinionated. How is this news to anyone? He's entertaining on 606 when he argues with the punters, but no one takes his footballing opinion seriously. He was a journeyman player who's become a pundit because he's argumentative, not because he's a talent spotter. Why you'd take his opinion on our team seriously is beyond me

Red Ollie

He's a dick who likes to try and be controversial. He'd start a row in a phone box ffs

I think he's quite self aware actually. He gives an opinion and often it's incendiary, but he knows this. It get's callers on and makes people notice him. He gives a skewed opinion, but at least he gives one. Many pundits re-tread the same tired cliches week after week. His comments were misguided at the weekend, but I believe he'll admit it when we prove him wrong. These insults of the man are going too far. He's exaggerates a lot but would hold his hands up to his shortcomings.

If it`s a black merc it`s obviously made up and should be discounted straight away,LFC Have Black Audis and the odd BMW

Ive just seen a black audi outside melwood with kaka in it, closely followed by a bmw this had messi, alonso and iniesta inside. could it be that were signing all of them before the window closes? no its just the same c--p we hear all the time. i wish people would just accept we will sign who kk wants not what we would like. plus how many more times will people keep saying this person or that person has failed his medical just cos it hasnt been broadcast that a person has signed. when a player has passed his medical signed on the dotted line then we will hear something and not before. all the media do is whip up a frenzy that this player is coming ie ssn wiki twitter etc. unless i see it on lfc official page or read it from macca or the eds its then believed to just be cr-p. just a quick extra if bellamy wants to play for spurs or jossi wants lille then so be it. if kk chooses to find someone else great. hes the one with the funding. billy.

Lurgan Red?

Oh Dear I thought I was the only Lurgan poster

Lol just realised it was Xavi and not Iniesta who was in the Merc silly me

totally agree with everyone saying VPersie never going to happen and as spoted earlier sure DC was just enjoying being able to watch a classic match-up. However, while van the man does not fit are criteria to say he wouldn't be good enough or would be third choice is beyond me. Give him credit, he has been and still is excellent and a world class striker when fit. look how many international goals he has scored and contributed too

Any Coach, Manager or person could have gone for the match.
RVP is a great striker but we are sure not looking to buying him off Arsenal.

Ed, any contrary opinion?

How many points do you expect / want from the next 2 games which are very difficult away to stoke and tottenham.

I would take 4 points now, with 3 being not bad and 6 amazing.

What do you think

The Dark Knight

I would not be happy with anything less than 2 convincing wins, End of story !!! 6 points all the way, we are Liverpool !! What would you expect city or united to do ? 6 pts right !! Well that's what I want !!!
Iveski

6 points.

I don't see why we can't get all 6 depends who spurs get in the window but they don't look that strong they had to big defeats so far,Stoke will always be tough but if we play like we did against Bolton with pace and movement il be looking for 6 points but wouldn't be disappointed with 4,
all i want is for us to keep putting the so called title contenders under pressure and be there for any slip ups.im not asking for to much am i :)
king henry

I reckon we'll draw 1-1 with Stoke and beat Tottenham 1-2. Spurs are struggling recently and hopefully we can take advantage of that. I would take 3 points from the 2 games now for sure, infact I would be happy with just 2 as they are still both very tough sides, especially at home.

I want six points and I fully expect six points you should never settle for anything less than the best that is possible

I expect 6 points; going into a game hoping to draw or lose is not the LFC way

Signed Ben

I honestly think Stoke will be a Much harder game at the Britannia than spurs would love 6 but will be very happy with 4

square tomato

I'd settle for 4 but 6 isn't impossible

I'd go for a six.
I know it's far-fetched but we all need to remember that Liverpool on a good day will scare even the likes of Man U.

O'seunfunmi (Anfield Red)

I want 6 points,would hate 2 points,but would settle for 4,ive always been a greedy beggar though :-)
matt

Stoke have great set plays and airial prowess. A point there is a good point for anyone. I think you cant call that one. And unless spurs get rid of there disruptive influance( Modric) we will roll them over. If he goes they could prove a bit tougher. I would settle for 4, want 6 though

We should win both, Johnson is back for Stoke and Gerrard for Spurs. Our squad is much stronger than both and they have Europa to distract them. We have quality throughout the squad and our bench will win us these matches. Kenny knows how to pile pressure on the opposition and our team from the back all the way to the front is solid and fight for the shirt (like stoke) but we have added quality that they should not be able to deal with. We will take all 6!

6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 ................expect 6, we are liverpool!

Our highest league position in recent times was 2008-09, where we finished 4 points behind the scum.

my point? we drew twice to stoke - 4 points dropped.

kk and the lads will be looking for 6 im sure......

Bigbadben

I honestly think we can get 3 points at the britannia.
They are a physical side, but we can match fire with fire. Big Andy, Lucas, Spearing, Skrtel, Carra, Agger.
The problem with stoke is that although they are tough and miserly, pace will catch them out.
Watching spurs against city, I also fancy our chances against them but this is 4 weeks away so maybe they will recover form. Modric will either have left, or be unsettled which is a plus for us if you think about it.
I'm saying 1-0 win vs stoke (suarez), and 2-1 vs spurs (Carroll getting both).

Ha ha - Roy Hodgson is on here posting under the alias of The Dark Knight, and feeling optimistic nonetheless!

Question for the Eds, if a player playing in the premier league has six months left on their contract, can other premier league sides offer a pre contract to them? Or is it just for players in a different league?

Gavino {Ed007's Note - Players can only sign a pre contract within the same FA one month before their contract expires, the 6 month ruling concerns switching to another FA.}

29 Aug 2011 13:55:59
Realistically we may need one or two 'world class' signings to actually challenge for the title over 38 games.

We brought a class signing in the form of suarez when we were down in the dumps in the hodgson era, surely we can secure a big signing under kenny and FSG, who footballers must recognise as being realistic big step in their career and want to come to such a club.

The team surely have something up their sleeve to impress us on deadline day.

redmoonrising

Great post mate

2 agrees witha false post. Dalglish signed Suarez and it most certainly wasn't in the Hodgson mistake

Signed Ben

Of course I meant on the back of Hodgsons reign and in a very precarious position

redmoonrising

Commoli sign Suarez - Dalglish confirmed this recently.

We can't attract the calibre of player to be title challengers this year. We could of course make a push for it but it would be a monumental effort from our lads. This is the season to cement our place back in the top 4. We can then attract a flair player or 2 if we feel the need

Red Ollie

True Red Ollie, but im sure we could convince them now that we are a club undoubtedly going in the right direction and im sure it will all pan out nicely.

Ridiculously happy with us now then last year anyways

Just a quick word to all those going on and on and then on again about Robin Van Persie and all these reasons why we don't want him.. he's actually made 230 apperances for Arsenal in 7 seasons (not including his 4 this season) now correct me if i'm wrong but i work that out at almost 33 games per season so he's not really that injury prone is he! I'm not going to get myself involved in all this hype or dislike surrounding a made up transfer to us.. however he is an exceptional talent and one which would greatly improve our side IF we were ever lucky enough to get him. stop putting our club on a pedestal we haven't sat on for 20 years.. your embarrassing us all!

SideShowBob

Sorry SideShowBob but to true LFC fan's LFC is alway's on a pedestal! And why are we embarrassing other LFC fan's by putting the club on a pedestal? is'nt that what fan's do? Alphared

29 Aug 2011 13:29:21
I don't understand why the fans are hoping for RVP. We don't have 30million just to splash out on an injury prone player.

Plus if Arsenal continue their form, top 4 should be very much acheivable for us.

RuncornRed

29 Aug 2011 13:24:38
On Suarez - I just fear that another club might turn his head offering a massive increase in his wages and possibly Champions League football in January. I would expect us to ask for a world record fee of £80m+ if this was the case.

I expect you're a City fan who acknowledges and admires Suarez's ability, and you're having a pipe dream; wishing he was in your side.

ALL Liverpool fans know he's only been here 7 months and wouldn't even consider that scenario!

I'd still decline btw. Maybe we'd consider in 4 or 5 yrs though, So come back then!

Chipkin9 (Eire)

Depends how well we are doing

Nonsense. Regardless of what profession you are in, commitment is an attractive quality. Leaving a team like LFC for greener pastures after a short period would harm his career in the long run. He is extemely intelligent and knows that.

He is staying with us for a couple of years at least. By then, we'll be winning titles again and he won't be going anywhere.

Sebastian Coates - pronounced Sebastian KWATEZ.

Or CO-AH-TEZ ??

Or we could be like a certain Sky sports employee and just call him Coats...

Kidmillions,a fully fit dynamic Steven Gerrard would do i agree mate. Just hope he come's back that way and we or he doesn't have to try and adjust the way he plays in anyway shape or form,i'd have him all day mate like yourself. Anyway thought if i put any it was late/early,forgive me please. thinking straight, thought that i'd only be accused of looking through rose tinted specs and i couldn't be assed with same old default response's mate. I agree too mate gerrard will be a massive player for us as he always was and with the squad we have he can really take his time and make sure he is fully fit unlike previous seasons.
king henry

100% fingers crossed he comes back his old dynamic self. My son who is 25 asks me about some of our great players of the past and were they really that good.
Same as in the future we will be asked by youngsters "How good was Steven Gerrard really" hope I'm telling them he was never better than when coming back from injury and leading us to the Premier League Title.

Comolli seen at Old trafford and we have started to find Arsenal players in our kit. C'mon boys, he can also enjoy watching football. And as for as RVP is concerned, he is not coming and I don't think he's good enough for a 30 million bid. I hope, we sign a striker and if that's from Arsenal I hope, its Walcott. I know, many here don't like him but he can be great, just wait and see. He's already started to play more close to center. and he's playing really well.

29 Aug 2011 12:11:17
almost sad to see arsenal in freefall. always respected what they try and do there.
however our goal this year is 4th place.
arsenal and spurs are our only real chalengers, should be easy on paper looking at early form.
think we are favourites for 4th place but doubt it will be easy. we need to fight and scrap for every point this year.

MIKEY

Are you crazy?
With this?

O'seunfunmi (Anfield Red)

Tell Mr Dalglish our goal is 4th - quite unbelievable, whether it's realistic or not, if you enter any competition hoping to finish 4th, you may as well not enter - 1st is everything, second is nowhere - guess who quoted that? And I'm sure Mr J W will not be happy with 4th after bankrolling Kenny for the amount he has ( and I'm not forgetting the money we have recouped ).

John B

Sorry, but you simply don't AIM for 4th, any more than we would ever play for a draw (under KK). We're competing in the EPL to win it - that's the 'Liverpool way' - (that a lot of posters on this site are so fond of quoting). As KK says, we'll play to win every game and come next May we'll see where we are - some people could do with getting off their Playstations and actually kicking a ball around - you might remember what the game is about.
Newtydreads

We wouldnt exist as human beings without coming fourth......in the beginning was Adam and Eve ,they came fourth and multiplied???

So by that logic QPR and Norwich are attempting to win the league. Perfectly acceptable to set a goal and play for it.

Setting a goal affected how you play individual games, teamsheets etc.

It's great that fans on here keep going on about how we are going to win the league, we are Liverpool fc, and nothing else is good enough.

It would be great if we did, but be logical as well.

Daveevad

QPR and Norwich logic is to finish as high up the league as possible as with any premiere team! Kenny know's the Liverpool way from old and that way is to aim for the top! Kenny is logical and realistic enough to achieve that goal! Alphared

Clearly the aim this season is to get back into the champions league. thats 4th place before trying next season for the title.
its nice we have so many optimists on here, however you are only kidding yourselves if you think we will win it this year on the back of 2 shocking seasons, or if you think the king or the owners are expecting us to win it.
we needed so much investment just to get back into contention for 4th.

MIKEY

In last seasons mini league between the top 6 we actually finished 2nd.
So it's realistic to say we will challenge this season for the premier.
Football in these times is about now! not next year or the year after or a 5yr plan
Just ask Arsenal supporters.

I don't understand why people think we need Van Persie. Don't get me wrong, he's a great player but he's always injured and if we need another striker it'd be someone like Bellamy who could deputise for Suarez. We can't expect Suarez to play every game and the games he doesn't play we'd have to change our style of play if we didn't have another quick striker who likes to run at defenders. Plus he can play on either wing as well so he'd get his fair share of games. I think If we signed Bellamy and Coates our squad would be as good as any in the Prem.

I am going to put my neck on the line and say I do not see Ruiz or Bellamy signing for Liverpool. I may be wrong and I'll hold my hands up. Also no offence to Macca, I know he has been right before but I do not take his word as the truth (Benzema in Jan etc). It is important to remember we monitor a vast number of players who we do not necessarily make a bid for. I personally anticipate Coates to sign, possibly another transfer on deadline day. But I do not know who and that is the Liverpool way.

-Al-

Well put,at last a voice of reason.

I never mentioned Ruiz..

My understanding is we are trying to get Bellamy and that will be the end till Jan..

Cheers

Macca

I can remember you saying we 'enquired' about Ruiz. Unless that was a fake, the message was removed apparently.

Adam

That was a fake mate.

Cheers

Macca posts in good faith, based on evidence that he has been made aware of. This is so different form the majority of posters with 'in-the-know' connections leaping directly from their own imaginations. Some of Macca's predctions haven't come true, but there are lots of obvious reasons for that. I, for one, am glad we have a Macca on this site.

Oh, I'm surprised somebody managed to temporarily get through under your name!

Shame though, was quite looking forward to Ruiz....

I really hope I'm wrong, however:

RVP Will not be moving to Liverpool.

Look at the facts.

Firstly, the eds have clearly answered a question along the lines of "Are we interested/will we bid for him?" With a "NO".

Secondly, although Arsenal are doing very poorly at the moment, they WILL improve. Come the end of the season we all know they WILL be challenging us for top 4.

Thirdly, they offer him Champions League football- we can't even offer Europa League football.

Finally, a couple of weeks ago we were all saying about how we have no/little money left and need to sell to buy. Where did we suddenly get £25m+ from?

If we were to attempt to sign him, I'd expect us to pay at least £25m, which is money we, apparently, don't have.

I'm not a fool, I love RVP and have always rated him highly. The thought of him and Suarez up front is mouth watering, but time to get real.

SMC

The board have said we can continue spending and I'd say we're in a better position for a player than Arsenal, but I still don't think we'll sign him. If we do it would be great but it's about as likely as Aguero or Mata

Not a rumour. I advice everyone to STOP saying stuff about Van Persie!! Just forget it!! It wont happen!! Im SURE RVP will still be a Arsenal player on 1st September!

29 Aug 2011 11:27:55
Just like to say eds, there are some jokers on this site! Rvp 30mil to liverpool!where have people thought up this crock of s**t!the lad isnt even worth 30mil anyway but most of all why wud arsenal let their only halfdecent player leave?! Idiots. We will sign coates n maybe 1 more but it wont b van persie guaranteed! Id rather have kuyt upfront than van persie!

29 Aug 2011 10:40:23
Not a rumour but i have a felling that at least 2 more quality signings are to be expected before the window closes, if saurez gets injured then i see big problems for us without a quality back up, i think sturridge fits the bill perfectly, i also feel a tricky right winger could also be on the cards, again i think affaley could be the answer, i still feel we are just a little bit short of what is required, our starting 11 if kept fit would be capable of a title challenge and with gerrard still to come back were looking in realy good shape, i dont see a future at either chelsea of barcelona for said players and hope they would jump at he chance to join the revolution.

There are some simpletons on here to even suggest that Liverpool are interested in any UTD or Arsenal players. Mr. Commolli can go to any game he wishes, and I suspect it was watch a potentially cracking game. Stick to the Footie manager kids, and forget Mr Robin Van Injury, then wake up and smell the coffee. F*****g ridiculous.

29 Aug 2011 08:45:24
I seriously doubt DC was at the Utd-Arsenal game 'on a scouting mission'. There are no players in those teams that Liverpool would want/could get that the club don't already know everything about. Added to that, what would he see in yesterdays game (expect to see before a ball is kicked as it turned out to be a pasting) that would tell him any more than he already knows about Walcott/RVP/anyone else being rumoured. Seems more likely that he is doing what he does - going to games and making his own opinions rather than being force fed skys. Utd are unlikely to sell anyone to Liverpool and Wenger would dig his own grave if he sold anyone else.

People reading too much in to Andy Carrol not starting against Bolton. I didn't think he would
start, Boltons are strong in the Air in the centre of the back four; playing Andy would of been just playing into Boltons strengths. So at last we have a squad and a Manager that knows how to best utilise his players.
kidmillions

This is true, despite this Carroll offers Liverpool an extra dimension in attack that we have lacked for a long time.

Spot on mate - Kenny knew running at and between the CB's for Bolton was the way past them, not via the air. Zat Knight and Cahill were totally outplayed. Kenny made the right call. Isn't it great to have options?

i wonder how united could get 2 goals from arsenal. i know theey were outclassed etc and when did not won as high as that. BUT 2 goals from that arsenal team?

bring them on.

I wonder how they scored 8, we scored 2 againt a similar team and we only scored when they had 10men, so 8-2 theres nothing positve to take from that as a liverpool supporter, but i do believe that united wont get anywere close to that score line against us, we will give them a tough match, our team is looking better and better and i reckon we have a good shot at the title or atleast top 3

It doesn't matter, they scored 8 past Arsenal. I hope, we are gonna beat them, when they face us. Nothing feels better than a victory against devils. Liverpool 4 life.

When we played arsenal the team still had frimpong, koscielny, and nasri they were a better team than the one facing manu and manu were playing arsenal with 10 men too they had jenkinson red carded! we will beat anyone.

The only thing to a few doubters me Steven Gerrard has to prove to me is his fitness when he come's back. If a fit Steven Gerrard come's back he'd improve most teams in the world's starting 11. It just goes to show by a comment yesterday about how we may not need him any more, what short memories some fans have. Some of the football we've played this season has been top class to watch. I thought Fulham at the back end of last season was the match that really impressed me the most until the Bolton game when the scoreline no way reflected me how one sided the match was,and that was with all the new signing's still getting to know each other. Its amazing to know that were only gonna get better but a fit Gerrard used in the right way could play a massive role in us going close to the title this season. With him coming back, hopefully coinciding with all our new signing's playing truly playing to their maximum potential and the thought of them being droped for him should spur them on even more. If anyone deserves to have some pressure, which to be fair he more often then not delivered, finally relived and to at last have Liverpool FC taken off his back because he's carried us for 10 years and i mean anyone, its Steven Gerrard. I think some of the football played when he come's back, will be the best some me the most fluid free flowing 1 and 2 touch, pass and move football we've seen since K.K came back, even better then yesterday. Just hope those groins of his can hack it and the medical experts have fixed him up so he can be used in the right way, because if they are and if they have then wow,to me the best is still yet to come. Jonson6

Gerrard would improve any team not most teams in the world.
kidmillions

As we all know, a football team is zero-sum. If we add a player and his contribution, then we have to take out a player and his contribution too. While SG's contribution is ,without any doubt, massive and without equal on his best days, either Adam or Henderson will have to be left out. Lucas is untouchable right now. Just thought i would add this.... ra1969

Nice post
he will need to fight his way back into this team, i think giving his place back as soon as he is fit is a bit insulting to the players that have played really well in his absence.
i also think he will be used a lot less this year, just to keep him fresh and avoid injurys. we could use him when hes on top form cos nobody comes close, and we have the luxury of dropping him when he is not. we bought a few good back ups this year so were no longer reliant on steven.
sorry if i have just stated the obvious. lol
sometimes it needs to be done on this site tho.

I would just like to give a shout out to one player who impressed me on Saturday that has taken some stick and touted for a sale to raise funds - step forward Martin Skrtel.

The lad came on to replace Kelly - I assumed he would go central defence and have Carra at RB. Seeing Skrtel at RB - I think he put in a really good shift. His pace was not blistering, but he surprised me how fast he moved in both defence and attack.

His goal was brilliant also - lost his marker and thumped it into the back of the net. An overall good performance from the lad - I was very pleased for him.

He is looking fit, fast and strong - certainly worthy of a place in our squad in my opinion as he is a capable deputy and first-teamer. I have always thought he was good enough, but am just pleased he took his chance on the weekend - albeit from RB.

LIVERPRES

I love Skrtel. Very underrated. He wears his heart on his sleave and will only improve under Kenny.

Agree completely. I also think he was one of our better players last season as well and it puzzles me when people say he is dead wood that needs to be removed.

To be honest Liverpres,
Skrtel impressed me beyond all expectation.
When he came in I was really skeptical.
But his was impressive. Absolutely fantastic and the fact that he kept his composure mattered a lot to me.

I think it will be very nice of us not to aim top four but the title. reason for this is that if we are aiming for the title the worse that can happen is that we end up in the top four but if we are aiming for, let say 4th postion, we might end up not getting there . So title is what i go for. and YOU?

And that is exactly what Kenny & FSG are aiming for. Those who think Kenny is aiming for only top 4 just don't know him and what he's all about.

Loved Reina's response to the Bolton goal yesterday. He was furious and he and Carra did not speak or look at each other or speak afterwards. This is is not a knock on Carra, more an observation of a passionate and brilliant goalie , who simply hates conceding regardless of the result.

Sorry keep forgetting to put a name at the end of each message. I was the old guy who was moaning about the criticsm of Souness amongst others in the past a few days ago. The above message is mine too! LeighT ps. Can't believe that my friend ,the stadium manager ,told me before the game, that LFC got a call on Monday from Bolton that they had only sold 320 tickets and were returning the rest of their allocation!

Souness should not be mentioned on an LFC page!

We should have gotten away with a clean sheet, had Carra not decided to stain the sheet himself.
Carra is a really great player and a leader, one mistake is not enuff to skin him for, but we should also be looking forward to having someone backup for him now.
My only issue is that when Carra sits on bench, who will do the shouting and organizing of players on the pitch?
Lucas? Glen? Kuyt? Charlie?

Does anyone think there could be ex or even current players posting on here.Reading wot Jimmy YNWA had to say got me thinking who these people could be that bring us accurate news before it get's into the public eye.Recntly Macca & Mr Yellow in particular have revealed info on players which has become public days later.I would love to think these guys could be Carra or Stevie or disguise. Not sure theyd get to know wots going on with transfers like???
Would they???

Hope AC doesnt

I doubt they would waste time on this site eventhough I love this site. They are not commoners like us and have other ties to LFC.

This is the biggest lfc rumours site available, not saying they post, but i'm damn sure they read it

Its possible players or ex players come on here to read or even post. they wont say who they are tho.
can ya imagine if gerrard posted? he would get so many thousands of questions.
i think macca has close ties either to players or the scouts. if he has to keep us guessing in return for his info then im more than happy :)

Sorry Eds, hope this is also posted in the rumours. Mr Yellow the one great thing about Macca is that although he has this great information, he has never once been arrogant because he knows more information than us.

Firstly, I would just like to state that I am NOT a Carroll hater, in fact I quite like the guy.

But did anyone notice how the team plays better WITHOUT Andy? I noticed this last season to but I never wrote a post about it. All we need to do is change Stevie with Hendo when he comes back, and leave Downing, Suarez and Dirk up top. Please don't say we we bought Downing just for the crosses, as this simply isn't true. He has many different things up his sleeve. He is fast, has a decent shot, easily beats defenders, works hard etc. I really do believe we have a better team without Carroll. He should be brought off the bench about the 60/70 minute mark. Then as he improves, we can introduce to more first team action. Anyone else agree?

Thanks, James.

I agree with you, James, that Caroll needs to improve (and have no doubt he will just because of his immense potential) but to improve he needs to play in the 1st team. My solution is to start him in away games and have Suarez as an impact sub and do the opposite in the home games: start Suarez and have Caroll as sub. Might or might not work...

Very much agree with you, mate. Paas 'n' move football needs ball skills and mobility to be fluid and effective. Carroll has none of these attributes.

I have been saying the same thing since he joined the club, at present he`s not adding to our team he detracts from it. We play better when he`s not on the pitch as we play pass and move, when he`s on we lump it long.
He needs to work very very hard in training to get sharp because at present he is a yard or two slow both on the ground and in his head, too many balls being played across the box for him and he`s not in the right place, he missed a great chance at the weekend when Downing played in a great ball 3 yards off the goal line and he was watching it from 6 yards, if that had been any top striker that would have been a goal.!!
