Hi all,

Disappointing loan update.

Vigouroux has had his loan spell with Swindon ended due to poor discipline.
The player has had numerous minor discipline breaches in his time there and was spoken to by staff and senior players.
He was late to training last week and so as club rules state was rightly fined £50.00.
Vigouroux didn't take this seriously and mocked the club by paying the fine in pennies.
Swindon rightly saw this as a slap in the face and have cancelled his loan spell

Vigouroux was vigorously let go after penny show!

Apologies but having to go through Daily Mail dispatches to run on my daily has some side effects.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I am not sure this is that bad, for me it is the sign of someone with a bit of attitude, yes, but he still accepted and paid the fine, so he showed he will accept disciplinary action, even when he felt he was hard done by. Personally I think that Swindon show a lack of humanity and are wanting their players to be robots, which is the major issue English clubs are ruining young players and why England are so crap.}

{Ed001's Note - I am with you on this boba, I would be more worried about why he was fined in the first place, personally, than how he paid.}

29 Sep 2015 09:25:44
Agreed ed001 being late for training is what they should focus on. They've left themselves with one available first team keeper and an 17 year old youth player (I think), I don't think it's a particularly wise decision. He'd played very well for them apparently too.

Interesting one for us reds. in my opinion a great squad but can't seem to transfer that onto the field. For all the people stating Rodgers has showed no improvement over his 3 year tenure, and to be totally honest I would partly agree.

Squawka posted that Liverpool despite their defensive and goalkeeper problems we have kept the 2nd most, joint with city, clean sheets in 2015 behind only west brom. Make of that what you will but definitely an improvement in his DEFENSIVE side of the game, obviously there is a lot more aspects to football than just the defensive part of the game and his troubles in able to sustain the goal scoring prowess we saw in the 2012/2013 season, which you could also say is his inability to keep our top players (Suarez, Sterling) and then the many players he has pushed out of the club (Gerrard Carra Reina Agger to name a few) the man has remoulded the squad and for me we are only 2/3 starting 11 players away from competing again with a good manager.

Despite Rodgers' improvement in defence, although we still look very shakey, he is not that "good manager" I'm afraid It is more like 1 step forward 3 steps back with Rodgers. Hoping for Ancelotti or Klopp both top managers, or should I say I'm dreaming!

The stats do not show reality, I`m afraid. We still cannot defend a set-piece, any ball in the box causes panic, we don`t track runners in the box, we defend too deep and allow strikers to come on to us, since BR got here. The stats will NEVER tell you all these things I mentioned. The cleansheets we get for example are based more on externuating circumstanceslikeaverage opposing strikers, ref decisions, and occasional good defensive work from us. City have a better defensive system than us and possess the ball better than we do as well as keep teams on the back foot consistently. we don`t do any of that so again, thos stats do not explain a thing in reality

Agree6 Disagree0

28 Sep 2015 20:59:14
Clean sheets on the hole mean nowt when every second game u concede 2 and 3 . And the squad isn't great at all . No spine . The basics ignored . Most clubs build a spine . Then fill around it . The great innovator knows better . Build the fringe around the base . And use a bunch of non designated midfielders (utility) in the side .

Great, I admit probably a little over exaggerated but we definitely do not have a bad squad and I think we easily compete with Utd, Spurs and anyone else but Arsenal Chelsea and Man City. But hey ho no room for optimism is there?

With decent refereeing in the Arsenal and Bournamouth games we were 1 clean sheet out of 9 games this season.

We don't have a bad squad, we just have a couple of gaping holes that need sorting out like keeper and defensive midfielder.

29 Sep 2015 00:16:51
We have a good squad which can be great with two to three top players to plug our holes. Our issues lie in the dugout

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Sep 2015 02:23:04
We don't truly know how good our squad is because Rodgers has not played all of the players in their best position for an extended period of time. Do we know how good Can, Firmino, Gomez etc could be for us, when they haven't got a good run in their natural positions? Do we know how good our defenders are when they have Skrtel as their partner?

Agree4 Disagree0

29 Sep 2015 05:05:22
clean sheets are great but not so much when the cost is you lose your attacking impetus. you need to play to score goals in order to actually win games and not draw them.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Sep 2015 06:43:10
Broadly agree with that liverpres, however I also think we all jump too quickly to make talented youth into regular 1st team starters and then berating when when they show their immaturity. We need to get better at making a plan for gradual integration and Can and Gomez should be part of that IMO rather than taking 1st team positions just yet.

Genuine first team PL starters for me should be

Sturridge, Benteke, Ings upfront
Coutinho, Llalana, Firmino, Milner, Hendo, Lucas in midfield
Moreno, Sakho, Skrtel, Clyne at the back

Players to integrate against weaker sides, or as substitures where appropriate, or if in super hot form (and someone above is struggling) should be Can, Gomez, Ibe, Teixera, Rossiter, Origi, Chirivella

I have left out Allen, Lovren and Toure who should be used as senior cover where required

Thanks Eds for all your insights/analysis!

Quick question: Any news or updates on Firmino's injury? The only thing I've seen is that he "may" have "cracked a bone" in his back. But there's been nothing since that minor update.

Does he actually have a broken back? Is it just a hairline fracture or more serious? How long is he expected to be out.

Really sucks, either way.

in the last 5 years we've had Carragher, Agger, Skrtel, Kyriakgos, Wilson, Wisdom, Sama, Paez, Coates, Sakho, Lovren, Gomez, L.Jones, Polgar, Sokolik, Cleary, Ilori etc.

I'm sure I've missed more off. So why the hell can't we put 3 good centre backs on the pitch at once?

Can is a midfielder and he is costing us goals being played at the back.

We scraped a win against Villa who haven't won since the opening day. And we only scraped it thanks to a few individuals being on fire. Then Rodgers has the cheek to cone out after the game and act like we'd just won the Grand National, World Cup, Tour De France and US Open all in one weekend.

Sorry Rodgers but you're embarrassing the club way too much for my liking. And how much are you paying that wet wipe Danny Murphy to defend you publically on the TV, Radio etc.

Carra and Agger were great, Gomez and Sakho could be. Still wonder what both Widom and Illori (not partnered together) would have been like.

Still hope Jones gets a chant in the future

28 Sep 2015 12:34:24
Agree EMS but it wasn't just Can on the weekend, Sakho actually made some errors but nobody has said anything about him on here as everyone worships him, I won't rip our players but everyone seems to be quick enough to do it but not to certain players, He let that cross go in when you should play safety first which Can obviously let his man go and was getting beaten in the air by Gestede on multiple occasions

Agree12 Disagree0

28 Sep 2015 12:37:15
Problem for the defenders is what's in front of them and what's behind them.
All those centre backs have had Mignolet behind them.
In front of them the midfielders don't do enough defensive work and there is not enough movement for the defenders to pass to when in possession.
Not absolving the manager of any blame, just saying they're not all bad defenders.

Agree12 Disagree6

28 Sep 2015 13:00:27
Only about half of the players you mentioned were First team players. And you've got to look at what has happened in goal, replacing Pepe Reina with Mignolet, to have a more balanced persepctive of us defensively.

Danny Murphy is a Red, through and through, and it's a sign of your complete ignorance and lack of intelligence to criticise someone who gave his absolute all for the club.
Danny Murphy is a class act, with more integrity that you will ever aspire to, you low-life sloth.

Agree10 Disagree15

28 Sep 2015 13:28:18
Cheshire, Danny Murphy is a clueless fool who is blindly defending Rodgers every mistake. He has no capability to be unbiased and realistic. He actually claimed we are top 4 contenders after Saturdays win. Are you seriously going to tell me he knows what he's talking about? Besides, wet wipe is hardly a massively offensive thing to say. It just means he has a weak opinion and doesn't have the backbone to tell it how it is. Everything is sugar coated with him. Questioning my intelligence and integrity as a person due to me having an opinion on somebody whose job it is now is to be judged by fans on his own analysis is a bit pathetic if i'm being honest. If he doesn't have thick enough skin to handle people who disagree with him and will judge him then he shouldn't be a pundit. If you figure out how to remove your own red tinted glasses, do me a favour and help Murphy with his.

As for a lot of them being younger players, so bloody what? How old are Smalling, Blackett, McNair and P.Jones? Being young or youth players is irrelevant. The fact is we have been through about 20 centre backs in 4-5 years and we find ourselves in a position where the best we have is Sakho who is patchy at best right now. The rest have either been misused, wasted, poorly coached, held onto past their sell by date, or simply not even given a chance in the team.

I agree largely with the other replies. They haven't been helped at all by our lack of good keepers and holding midfielders. We've lacked a good keeper since the Reina of 2008 and when Lucas is injured or simply being ignored in Rodgers case, we've had to rely on Gerrard, Adam or Allen as holding midfielders. Who else is to blame except Rodgers that this is a problem we've had for years now? He's had about 8 transfer windows to fix that.

Agree18 Disagree4

28 Sep 2015 13:48:28
Cheshire discs,what does somebody's playing past have to do with their ability to analyse a clubs management situation. If anything your highlighting of him being a ''red through and through'',is indicative he may not be the best person to view the situation.

I've watched Danny Murphy as a pundit for 2 years now. He's bang average and when he's sat next to Gullit Shearer(who I don't rate) or Jenas he looks out of his depth in his ability to analyse games and moments such as cards,challenges etc. His comments on the Costa incident were laughable.

Agree7 Disagree3

28 Sep 2015 14:02:33
EMS, Murphy just isn't that good a pundit but no need to slate him like that. Fact is we are 5 points from first, with Struddige back and scoring we could be a weekend or two away from top four. So Murphy isn't a million miles off, just cause you have a different opinion don't drop to some childish name calling, you look embarrasing doing that.

i know i will get a lot of flack for saying this but for me lucas is not as good a def mid as many of you think he makes lots of mistakes and gives fouls away in stupid places that lead to goals and then some one else gets the blame , he should be stopping attacks before they get to our defence but he does not , he does not hold position so basically when he goes on a walk about the midfield is open for players to run through , as good as he is as a person and for the club as a player he is not that good , his sideways passes do my head in he could have passed the ball forward in the game against villa and he chose instead to pass sideways as he usually does , which means the pressure stays on us and we don't put the opposinf team on the back foot , if i played against lucas i would know he is no threat because he just passes the ball side ways and would wait for him to get the ball and tell my players to get ready for a sideways pass , don't get me wrong i want him to be better but he is not and correct me if i'm wrong but what have we won since he has been playing for us

You can put 3 good centre backs on the pitch but it doesn't mean they will play good.
You have to get the tactics and the formation right. The reason we look rubbish at the back is down to Rodgers.

Danny murphy is defending the indefensible hence, should not be immuned to being slated for being morally dishonest just because he played here. As for Ron, you are doing the same thing your BFF does as in, blaming the players he himself bought into the club. that no longer flies. BR can`t coach defence, end of. He never could. was reading somewhere that while with Swansea, he had a 4-1 lead vs Wolves. What was the score? You guessed it, 4-4. Now where have I seen that happen before since he got here? it doesn`t matter what we have, he will still screw up. i dare say that even if I`ve never set foot at Mellwood, i can almost guarantee that they don`t work on the defensive side of things as much as they need to because he simply doesn`t care for it. all he cares is how many times we pass the ball in our own half and how many midfeilders he can shoehorn into the starting 11. Ron, stop blaming the players and blame who brought them and still can`t get the best out of them!

Agree8 Disagree0

28 Sep 2015 16:54:43
Redohio, I kinda agree with your post. I certainly don't disagree. I was a big Rodgers fan and have been giving him the benefit of the doubt for a while now hoping he can sort things out but admit it is hard to see how the defence has been improved at any time over the last 3 years.

It was pretty poor the year we finished second but with the SSS strike force opposing managers were forced to play defensively as they knew if they attacked and scored we would most likely score 2-3 more. Once Suarez left teams went on the offensive against us again knowing we didn't offer the same threat.

I still don't like to see other posters on here berate the manager and players on here, I don't see the need for it and I do believe they are trying their best for our club, but maybe a change would be better.

Oh, and I always liked Rafa's quote (paraphrased here) about if yr making a table and just have a leg missing, just buy a table leg. I do believe that the transfer committee and Rodgers could learn from this and not keep buying no 10's

Cheers

Sulfolk, I did not berate the manager. I am calling the manager out on always flip-flopping on issues and conveniently avoids to tell the truth. he constantly avoids resposibility and slates the players when things aren`t going his way. It is not an insult to call someone out as dishonest if what he is doing is in fact, dishonest. If to you that is insulting the manager then I can`t help you there. I`m not the only one calling him out on it so don`t know why you`re picking on me for saying what is true. As for Ron, I stopped caring whatever you thought because you like your friend, slate the players for not doing their jobs or you calling them mediocre. if they are mediocre, what are they doing here? Who brought them in? And who is slating them in the media in a bid to escape the blame? Your post glossed over BR`s share of the responsibility. NONSENSE!! he is solely to blame for the defensive and gaolkeeping issues we have and unlike you, i won`t gloss obver his share of the blame.

One thing I can't understand is that if BR is insistent on playing 3 at the back, why play Can in the back 3? He just doesn't have the mind for defence, play him where he will be most effective, which is midfield. I can't for the life of me figure out why he suddenly decided drop Gomez, the kid was brilliant even playing out of position. I think Moreno has been superb since he has returned to the side, but why not play a back 3 of Gomez/Skrtel/Sakho? we certainly would be a bit better, albeit not by much with Gomez who is a defender rather than Can who is a makeshift one, even Can said he didn't want play more in a back 3 and I thought he was given assurances that this would not be the case. However BR has made promises to other players and then to go back on his word. I think is amazing to be honest that we have such a high number of clean sheets, because I just wait every game for us to concede, and I am not sad or disappointed anymore when we do, because it has just become the norm for the team. I just can't figure out if us simple folk can see how bad we are defensively and that we are not playing players to their strengths, why can't BR and all his staff who all have massive qualifications and study the game and analyse week in week out? I'd love to know what defence drills they do in training, because it just doesn't work. I always thought if you could combine the defensive prowess of a Rafa team, with the passing and attacking prowess of a BR team (13/14 season to be exact) then that team would be invincible, alas will never be the case.

Hi ED02

Tiago llori has not been given a chance at Liverpool and that is my point.
Watched him in the u21s championships for Portugal and he reads the game well, ball playing defender and also can defend.
Also watched when I could when he played in Spain and France and again he looks to be a talent (in my opinion).
Not played for Villa yet but I think that given a chance he would prove his worth.
Maybe Premier League is to physical for him but until you play him you don't know.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - So you made the decision that he is "very good" whilst watching him play in an Under 21 game or two. As I said, in more than two years at the club he has played a zero games for Liverpool, a few for Granada and a few for Bordeaux.}

Hi ed002,

Can I ask why you believe there won't be a long term role for Sturridge?

Is it his injuries?

Or do you mean just while while we are playing in our current formation/style?

I really like Sturridge and I think he gives something different to Benteke and something different again to Ings.

Cheers

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - The club has done without him for a long time and have added forwards in Benteke, Ings, Firmino and Origi - where would he play?}

Studge is head and shoulders above all. would be suicide not to play him

Agree9 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - So where would he play?}

28 Sep 2015 14:00:08
He will play up top probably wide of benteke, Ings and origi will miss out.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - So a change in style to suit one player - seems risky.}

28 Sep 2015 14:00:41
Alongside Benteke with Coutinho just behind them. Ings as back up and give Origi cup games. This still leaves Firmino i suppose. I get what ya saying ed but Sturridge has to play and surely Rodgers understands that.

Agree3 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Why does he have to play? He seems surplus now - and Liverpool need to raise money so perhaps if he could prove his fitness he could be sold in January - perhaps even raise enough to cover the cost of Ings?}

28 Sep 2015 14:14:09
Just off Benteke and Ings is back up, super sub. Origi isn't ready or good enough right now, Firmino is not a striker. Don't stir up something about Sturridge being sold with those comments Ed. it's clear Sturridge is a first 11 player by the way he automatically starts if there is just a sniff he's fit enough, how Rodgers almost rests his job on the goal return of him too.

He can play up top with Benteke or just off him, a diamond has always had decent results for Rodgers. Also, most top sides looking to challenge for titles etc have 4 proven strikers or three and one upcoming

Agree7 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Sturridge will want to play at centre forward and nowhere else. The Liverpool fans beat their meat every year about marquess signings - and the manager was able to provide with two this summer - Firmino (a wide forward or an attacking midfield player) and Benteke (a good old fashioned centre forward). Sturridge is surplus to requirements and if a decent offer arrived then it would have to be considered. You need to be realistic about this.}

28 Sep 2015 14:16:02
Haha, I'm not sure if your on the wind up ed but Sturridge has a better goal to games record than Torres, Suarez, fowler and Owen etc. if they can keep him fit he will keep playing. He has had a nightmare with injuries and keeping him fit will be imperative but saying a shift in personnel to accommodate him would be risky seems odd given how poor we have been, surely the only way is up.

Agree7 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Of course his goals to games ratio will be better - in more than three and a half season at the club he has probably only played about half of the games that Suarez did in the same time. Twisting statistics to suit a player that is often not available through injury and is surplus as a centre forward now won't help Liverpool moving forward any more that adapting formations for when he might be available.}

28 Sep 2015 14:18:57
Ings has done really good and has earned his place in the team , i thought he would not be this good but i hold my hand up and say i was wrong , also i can only see him getting better , he will score a good few goals if he keeps getting played

Agree4 Disagree1

28 Sep 2015 14:37:44
I'm not sure that I agree he is surplus to requirements. Sturridge and Benteke are Rodgers' two most highly valued strikers. He will happily bench Ings once Benteke is fit again. Despite how good Ings has been, 2-3 good games in a very short LFC career doesn't place him above Sturridge on the pecking order.

Agree2 Disagree0

28 Sep 2015 14:39:12
I do see what your saying Ed and tbh I've not considered selling him on as I've also been clouded by his scoring stats. You think he would struggle playing alongside Benteke? Do you know if the club are looking to sell him in Jan then?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - The club has to raise money by the end of June and the two options they have to do that is (a) the players on loan-to-buy deals completing the transfers at the end of the season, and (b) sell in January. As I have explained, if a decent offer arrives it will need to be considered.}

I understand your reasoning Ed but I'd still play Sturridge when fit as he's still the best centre forward we've got.
I would never have bought Benteke in the first place and I haven't seen him do a single thing yet that had made me glad we bought him
In fact I'd have rather bought Rondon

Ed002: There is no way we should be selling Sturridge. He is one of our truly world class players-- he showed it against Villa-- and has the pace, one-touch control, and the movement, to form a truly successful partnership with Ings and, when he returns, potentially Firmino.

Yes, Firmino was a marquee/big signing. So was Benteke, but I'd estimate most fans didn't think the latter fit so well into our style of attack, which is high pressing, movement, pace, through balls from creative midfielders like Coutinho/Hendo. And, certainly, Ings-- who also has movement and pace-- has seemed more comfortable than Benteke up front.

I still don't think Benteke is going to excel here, for the reasons everyone thought from the beginning. He is a beast in the air and his hold up play and touch is good for a big guy, but he doesn't have the same touch, pace, movement as Ings/Sturridge/Firmino, which allows Coutinho to create. And as you said, we shouldn't change our attack for "one player".

Agree6 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I am not sure how you figure Sturridge to be "world class". Like it or not, Sturridge has not been available to play in the majority of games since he arrived, and like it or not, Benteke is here to stay.}

28 Sep 2015 15:04:12
Cheers for all the responses Ed.

If Sturridge does prove his fitness by January can you see clubs making offers for him?

And if so, who?

Can you see him going to one of the bigger teams? Arsenal need a striker for example, so do Man City. Or do you see him moving to someone like a Spurs or maybe Newcastle?

I can't see him going abroad myself but maybe the slower pace of La Liga would suit him. Maybe Braca could bring him and Suarez together again haha

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - There are certainly several EPL sides who will be looking at strikers in January, as you say Manchester City and Spurs will be, and Chelsea are already trying to get some January transfers in place. Arsenal may also look. But right now after a couple of games he won't be attracting attention.}

28 Sep 2015 15:19:04
Hope we don't sell him as he is IMO our best striker and is adaptable as well and if he proves his fitness then don't see why wouldn't keep him.

Feel for Origi as with ings coming in don't see where he plays (ings, studge, benteke + youth more then covers strikers).

But ed makes a point in that players will have to go to raise money but would this mean that near enough every player is up for sale provided the right offer comes in?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - If a player wants to leave and an acceptable offers are made then the majority of the clubs would support a move happening. One problem that comes with players being courted by clubs who are or who are potentially more successful and have the money to make a bid is that it can be disruptive (Sterling, Tevez, Ben Arfa, Bent are good examples). Then you need move on as Liverpool did with Sterling.}

28 Sep 2015 16:10:57
Not sure if Ed002 is just having a bit of a wind up or not but there is next to no chance of sturridge going anywhere anytime soon, he loves the club and he is reconginised by the management as one of our best players.

We definitely have bigger things to be concerned with right now than Sturridge leaving!

Keep up the good work guys

Agree3 Disagree1

{Ed002's Note - You are clearly not grasping what is being said.}

I would hope that whoever is in charge of Liverpool would realize sturridge needs to play when fit

Agree1 Disagree0

28 Sep 2015 16:32:58
I don't think anyone would pay big money for Sturridge but if coutinho keeps his form up I see him being a target from other clubs and if ed 2 says we need money well then he's the one I think we could find hard to keep . If Sturridge wasn't made of glass he would be a target for most teams , anyway I was happy with 3 points and Sturridge getting back in with a bang . Let's see where it brings us. I do get annoyed listening to Rogers and some of the selections are strange but he is our manager for now and until I hear different I support him .

Agree2 Disagree2

28 Sep 2015 16:58:41
Apart from baybe couts he is the best player at the club in my opinion and 42 goals in 69 appearances is not something to be sniffed at. I understand what you are saying ed but if he proves his fitness and keeps scoring goals I don't see any way he could be sold he will be our top goal scorer by a country mile come christmas.

Agree3 Disagree0

28 Sep 2015 16:30:54
I did read the messages Ed002 i just don't agree with your statements.

Sturridge since he has been playing under Rodgers has improved massively technically as have many players (which is one of Rodgers attributes IMO), he is an extremely competent passer now and plays with his head up, his touch is very good and he has an explosive turn of pace and he is an excellent finisher.

To be really up there with the best he needs to be able to hold the ball up more efficiently, win a few more headers and give a better delivery from wide areas when he drifts out to pick up the ball or is playing in a fluid 3 + he must get on top of his injuries

I really don't see any prospect of him being sold, i guess there is a chance someone like markovic (in the summer), Lallana, moreno or lucas may leave if funds are needed

Thanks

Agree5 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - He hardly ever plays. A "fluid 3 +" is not a term the real world uses. If he is not playing as a centre forward he will get pissed off again. Players are transients and people come and go - Coutinho will be subject of a bid in 2016. Markovic has zero future at Liverpool but they overpriced him out of a move. They screwed with Sakho this summer as well. What colour is the sky where you live?}

28 Sep 2015 16:52:01
Ed002: Sturridge has, indeed, had a bad experience with injuries. No question. But when he is fit, it's hard to deny his quality, which he showed against Villa. He may very well save Rodgers' job with his one-touch composure and finish.

In 2013/14, he scored 22 goals, second in the entire EPL (behind Suarez) and ahead of Rooney, Bony, Dzeko, Giroud, Benteke, Van Persie, Hazard, etc.

Benteke may be here to stay, but my prediction is that Sturridge and Ings will be far more productive for us. Origi is the logical striker to sell in January. Not sure where Joe Allen fits either; he's not a true DM to replace Lucas.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - (a) It is nothing to do with his "quality". (b) It is nothing to do with the number of goals he scores on the occasions he is fit. (c) Origi won't be sold in January.}

28 Sep 2015 17:19:08
I think it is too early to say that Sturridge is surplus as it depends on how Benteke, Ings and Origi pan out. I hate judging a player so early, but at this earliest juncture, it is very clear that Origi is nothing but a expensive squad player who will only start a game here or there. If he impresses we might see him getting regular game time, but the nature of the game is such that if he doesn't get a fairly regular go in the side, he will be send out on loan, and we all know how LFC players out on loan do, and where they end up.

As for changing tactics to accommodate Sturridge, I would wait to see what happens when Rodgers is thrown and what the new manager does. I was interested to know what Rodgers does when he has both Benteke and Sturridge available, and he changed his tactics to accommodate both in the only game they have played together (like he did when both Sturridge and Suarez were both available and Sturridge refused to play out wide).

I think Sturridge is an excellent player who has stepped up and has shown that he can be as good as any forward in the PL when fit. Keeping him fit will be a difficult issue and that is why the likes of Ings has been brought in IMO. Firmino is versatile and can easily fit in as a wide player and I wouldn't use him in the discussion with 4 forwards - Benteke, Sturridge, Ings and Origi. Firmino will be jostling with Coutinho, Lallana and Ibe for a wide role under the Brodge.

I appreciate Ed002's comments; its good to see him getting involved.

Agree4 Disagree0

28 Sep 2015 17:19:12
Ings is the man in form, Sturridge is the best finisher.

Don't care about price tags (there's a song there), Ings has hit the ground running, Benteke has to earn his place.

Ings and Sturridge up top.

Agree6 Disagree2

28 Sep 2015 17:29:19
Easy.

They will sell Coutinho.

He's going to move anyhow.

A bid from Barcelona makes it easier for owners to sell.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - It won't be the owners decision.}

28 Sep 2015 17:48:22
The sad thing is that I think we all expect couts to go in the summer, I'm sure his sale will allow us to overspend on the wrong players again next season but he may be the last player in our squad that will fetch the top money.

Agree1 Disagree0

28 Sep 2015 20:02:51
Whilst I appreciate the financial situation I would hope that a new manager comes in and makes keeping the best players a priority, followed closely by selling the spares and unwanted players. If we sell coutinho, even to balance the books, then we've lost our ambition in my eyes.

Agree2 Disagree0

28 Sep 2015 17:34:15
thanks for your response Ed002.

Coutinho may well start to gain interest from other teams but right now he is a player we are not interested in selling, i'm not sure what relevance Sakho had to do with our debate but he has now signed a new contract and the intention is that he now will be a starter in our squad (although he has been told that before more than once before).

When i said fluid 3 i was referring more to when he plays with a strike partner and finds himself out wide as he did with suarez and as he did on saturday with ings

I understand we will have to sell over the next few transfer windows but i consider any of the players i listed to be far more likely to be moved on than sturridge, of course thins can always change and you are correct in saying players are just employees of the club.

the likelihood of sturridge being sold in January is very low indeed

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Sep 2015 20:40:29
Ed002 is clearly just trying to wind things up a notch. The club has stood by Sturridge and Sturridge will stand by the club, and I'm sure whichever manager comes in will realise that his kind of quality is needed to keep our team competitive. In terms of Benteke, all i'm going to say is this; at least we're not paying THOSE wages for Falcao :D

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - It is embarrassing that you want to make this about Chelsea.}

When Brendan's tenure in charge of our great club is finally analysed and assessed by the professional pundits on Sky Sports, Talk Sport etc, they will point to his game Winning percentage and his Gross/Nett spending. They will also focus on silverware or lack of it. That's how they highlight success or failure.

We, as fans, will also look at other matters and judge him by how the squad has changed, almost beyond recognition to that which he inherited. YES, changes were needed and YES certain transfers etc have been unavoidable. But in my opinion, he's got to be held ultimately responsible for where we currently sit in the League table. That's his job - to manage a team to complete and challenge in a highly competitive league. To do that you need winners and leaders. I think he has failed us in this. Only two of his signings look like Winners or Leaders and have come up to Liverpool standard - Coutinho and Sturridge. Other players may be eventually regarded as very good signings, but this will only be down the line from now (e.g. Gomez, Ings etc). The alarming FACT is that Brendan's starting XI is "Bang average" and not good enough to compete with Chelsea, City, Arsenal and Manchester united. A quick look at his results against these teams will show this.

If rumours are correct, FSG may be sounding out a new manager. We can only hope that any appointment is for a Manager who will re-build us again into a team of leaders and winners. I've purposefully not named the players that i feel are not good enough for us. I think it's disrespectful to do that. It's not the players own fault, it's the fella that signs them (Ayre, Gordon, take your pick). Like all of us on here, i just want to see our great team challenge again and i will support the team through thick and thin. YNWA.

REBUILD? Are you having a laugh? Sick to death of that word, rebuild = another 2-3 years of crap football, hundreds of millions spent and and listening to all the whinging on what a poor manager the new guy is. Surely with 2-3 purchases ( as posted here as often as "is klopp the next manager") and a manager with half a desire to be competitive and work with what he has, we could be twice the team we are now.

Agree2 Disagree0

28 Sep 2015 16:35:25
Spot on, cheshire! The Sky pundits are just there to say what they are told by their bosses and make excuses for why a British manager should be sacked. i BR was a foreign manager, they would have had the knives out for him already. Ask Scolari and AVB. But when it comes to BR, the media just drink his Koolaid and never challenge what he says with facts because he`s a media gift for senseless soundbites that keeps on giving so he`s keeping them in a job. Oliver Holt of the DF dared to write that since LFC was no longer a powerhouse, we should just stick w/ BR cas that`s the best we can get. Can you even believe that load of tripe?

So, I've been away for a week, what have I missed? Does everyone love Rodgers again?

I jest of course. We do seem to have reached a tipping point where most people on the site have gone from 'I don't think Rodgers is good enough' to 'I hate Rodgers and his stupid face' which got me thinking, what if he does turn things round? What if we start playing well, accumulate 75 points and come 4th, maybe even win a cup? Have you reached the stage where no amount of improvement will make him good enough in your eyes?

Not saying I think this is likely, no one will argue that the way we're currently playing is good enough, just a hypothetical 'what if?'

There are no hypotheticals in Brendan's case. The Man has done an awful job so far and has set himself up for the sack which he fully deserves. I cannot imagine him changing any sane fan's mind with the little time he has left. There are at least 4 better managers with better teams in the league that will finish above us. so champions league will be out of reach next season as well unless we win the Europa, which will be a mammoth task.
No one hates Brendan. They hate his arrogance, ineptness and what he has done to the club.

Apparently no one knows how to answer a hypothetical question.

He's from Essex. He doesn't speak English. He made a good effort at writing in English but I will tell you what he meant to say (I dated a girl from Romford earlier this year and learnt to understand what they mean when they try and talk English):

"Omg, naa m8. Rodgerz jus ain't reem enuff 4 us anymor. 'E ain't gut wat it takez. 'Is bin so bad dis seezon dat i'm well jel of United havin Van Gall. Ygm bruv? 'Is teeth shine brighta then me missus vajazzle."

I have answered this already on the others page, always want us to be winning. Would i change my mind about rodgers, probably not, he does not get it for me. Shoot for the stars and you might surprise yourself, top 4 and a cup should not be our ambition and i would say the same if i was a palace supporter. If you aim for mediocrity then that's all you will get and considering the state of the league at the moment a top manager would be looking to take us on and win it with the resources he has had at his disposal.

Agree4 Disagree0

28 Sep 2015 11:40:33
Everyone's capable of redemption but it's the style of play as much as the results that's convinced me, and the belligerent sticking with a playing style that doesn't suit and that hasn't worked, playing people out of position, isolating quality players, and his ego that rears it's head at every mini recovery means it's unlikely to be an easy road back to earning our trust again. He's made the first miniscule baby step with Ings and Sturridge upfront though!

28 Sep 2015 12:01:03
If he got us to 4th place then by definition he would be good enough and that would be enough to keep most fans happy.
The real issue is that most fans have seen enough already to convince them that we will not get 4th place, and that rodgers is not the right man for the job.
They do not want to risk throwing away another season with poor performances and dire football, and you are one of those people who have already lost faith in rodgers ability, the time to act is very soon.

Agree1 Disagree0

28 Sep 2015 12:18:13
We won't get 75 points.
And even in the hypothetical situation he won a carling cup and got 4th,quite frankly it's still not good enough
As I keep saying,he shot himself in the foot saying ''when you spend £100 million you should be winning the title'' Well he's spent £280m+ and gone backwards. So by his own standards he should be challenging for 1st not 4th and picking up a cup half the teams don't care about.

The Europa league and 4th may earn him a stay of execution for some fans,but not for me,he's not learnt from errors,he's playing poor football,he's peed off a lot of players,spent a fortune. He needs to go regardless.

Best scenario is we finish 4th, win a cup and The owners realise to progress further they need a proven winner, like Klopp or Carlo. Rodgers gets us to where we want to be, gets a trophy so both he and we can part on good terms with some fond memories.
Ilori does amazing at villa but rejects perm move as a new manager joins. Joe Allen drives off to find Brenden and isn't seen in Liverppol again. Both Lovren and Skrtel take lucrative offers in UAE, LFC accept £20m a piece from Al absomething

I don't think I have ever seen or heard a more embarrassing presser. As soon as the rumour was surfaced, he hid away from the media not once, but twice. He finally showed his face again in the pre-match presser, and his body language and tone could not be more defeated, more passive, nor more resigned. He seemed to accept that his job was rightly at high risk.

Suddenly, Liverpool win 3-2 against a championship-quality team in a game that in general reflected *slightly* above average quality at the most. Great goals from Sturridge and Milner, but apart from that, the attack was slow and directionless, and the defence was less organised than a bachelor pad before netflix and chill. Hi All,

My analysis of the gave vs Aston Villa.

Please feel to agree or diagree.

Positives:

Danny Ings:
Having two players up top is a must for every gave. He provides so much space for the other striker and midfielders to take shot on the goal by taking a defender or two with him. His intelligent and consistent runs is something we are missing after Suarez left us. Though he didn't have a goal to show against his name, his workrate was excellent and is a big positive to the team.

Daniel Sturridge:
Very good game with very good finishing but a bit rusty and still selfish. Probably that is what makes him such a good striker.
Man of the match performance.

Alberto Moreno:
We all know that he isn't such a good defender but was very promosing against Aston Villa in an advance role. Looks like benching him for Gomez has made him realize that he has to improve his game to be on the field.
Very good performance and good cross in him which we never expected that he had in him.

Neutral: Guess many of you will disagree with this point.

Lucas Leiva:
Though he had a good game (say decent) but he is not cut out at this level in a top 4 side.
He has been a loyal servant to the club and an examplary professional. (which is rare)

I don't want to get into stats but he might have had > then 92% pass percentage complete but all of them are safe passes to left or right or back and none, I repeat is offensive or to create a chance.

You can all argue that he was suppossed to be defensive midfielder in the game but -
He is not an Mascerano or Gary Medel type midfiled general or Alonso / other deep lying playmaker.

Overall he did a decent job but I am still not convinced if he will ever make to Barzil team on a constant basis or a top 5 team in any league.

However have huge respect for him as a model professional.

Negatives:

Emre Can:

Though he is never a defender, he has failed to conceive inspite of so many chances. I like him personally and want him to come good but imagine if Texeria or Gomez or anyone else if given the same number of chances, what they would have done.

I am not blaming him but maybe he might come good in future but there must be a reason that Bayern M / Leverkusen sold him.

N Clyne:

He is a very good right sided defender and having him play as a wing back is utter waste of talent and space/player.
Rodgers has to use him as a traditional Right sided defender with license to bomb up and down. As a wing back he is confused and doesn't offer anything to the team.

I'd rather have Clyne play as right defender and give opportunity to Jordan IBE as traditional winger in an advanced role than having him defend.

Overall:

We could see the team depending on Coutinho as the only creative outlet and this reminded me of the old way of playing. (all of the passing to Gerard for outlet at every opportunity)

Probably this is making Countinho to try very hard every time and making him lood bad. He is the only genuine talent we have and I am afraid Barca or anyone are waiting to snap him at the next available opportunity.

Sorry for the long post and ignore the typo's.

Thanks

I was at the game and I can categorically tell you Lucas was the best player on the pitch. His tackling and work rate was top class, furthermore everything we did went through him, his passing was also top drawrer fair play to the lad.
In a nut shell,defensively we were very bad. From an attacking perspective we did very little and I just thank god for 2 things. Daniel sturridges finishing ability and Aston villa being even worse than us defensively.
Clyne and Moreno gave a very good account of themselves going forward, unfortunately for both they had nobody ahead of them to pass to or cross 90% of the time.
3 at the back does nothing for me, nor does it improve much of the team, if anything it hampers us going forward. I've come to realize that to sort this team out it's going to involve bringing in about 6/7 players and selling about 15.
This is reality not negativity before anyone starts mouthing off. And most certainly a change in formation

Agree with everything except Lucas he was good that game and is good enough for the top 4, if you watched the game he doesn't just do sideways passing. If their is someone in space in front he will pass it their. Unlike some he doesn't just pass it forward to someone not in space to receive it straight back.

While Sturidge got a couple and should have had a couple more, he was also really poor at times. Given his time out it is understandable.

Lucas was very good.

I don't get the issue with Clyne as a wing back at all. He didn't have the best game offensively but it was more product than role.

Moreno was good.

Can made some shockers and is wasted in the backline. Especially when we have Gomes on the bench.

Ings has been good so far.

Disagree about Lucas there.
Agree about Danny Ings though, he's an intelligent striker, makes great runs and gets in all the right places. He might not have the flair or finishing ability as Sturridge but there does seem to be something really special about him that we don't seem to have had at Liverpool for a while and that's a striker who looks and plays like an actual striker, if that makes sense? He looks like he could form a really good partnership with benteke or Sturridge but only if he has a partner, I can't see him as a winger (take note Brendan)

Lucas wasn't isn't and never will be good enough
However he IS the best we've got at that position
Just shows how poor the transfer policy has been

Lucas was my MOTM, as well. The fact that BR was going to sell him just typifies his incompetence

Hi Ed02 from someone looking in what do you make of Rogers recent comments about a conspiracy against him and rest of the garbage he has come out with, I mean anyone has right to criticise his tactics and results as he is the manager. To me his comments smack nothing but arrogance and seems to be Obsolving any blame upon himself. I think his comments are damaging for lfc, I hope Mike Gordon has a plan in place to do the right thing and relieve him of his duties when or if it is good for lfc

{Ed002's Note - I would take no notice of it. He would have been referring to the press.}

I agree Ed2 All last week you couldn't pick up a paper without the headlines screaming out that Rogers was about to be sacked and Klopp or Ancelotti was about to replace him. Didn't read one headline suggesting Mourinho was under any pressure for the poor start Chelsea made Not saying Rogers is in the same league as Mourinho, but it must have really pi**ed him off to read that day after day. I don't think his comments were directed at the fans

{Ed002's Note - Right - he will find it all very frustrating.

Listen to ed002. Life's so much nicer when your not listening to Brendan Rodgers talk.
