Toure in, so I wonder who's next then. One things for sure these days, there seems to be very little leaks out from Anfield.

guaranteed 4th place next season title after next, I firmly believe that and even if I am 100% deluded I totally believe its about how your team play and not whose in your team, Manchester United have proven that for at least the last 6 years, while i'm on the subject of man utd, welcome to mid table mediocrity, his everton team had better players than the utd team, he's inherited lol.

Why would anyone want tello? What has he ever done to justify a move to Liverpool? Every second post is tello this and that.

Unless he is the greatest footballing secret I do not know all the fuss. He certainly doesn't make much difference to barca

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Good footballing talent with promising future?
maybe just maybe that has something to do with it.

He would be a great addition to the Liverpool squad no-one is claiming he is Ronaldo. People can see he has pace and ability and would love to see a move for him

If Tello was to come to us, I see him having the same sort of impact on our first team as Coutniho has had. He would be an excellent addition to our team.

Welcome kolo,
i think this is a brilliant move by BR and FSG,
Its fact that agger has just had his most consistent season without injury, a little like fabregas and van persie who although both brilliant are extremely injury prone, the chances of him having another season like last are slim to none.
i see kolo as our first choice center back next season with agger (fitness permitting) and skrtel filling in, who by the way was the fans and players/ player of the year covering while agger is out, this will give plenty of opportunity for coates/kelly/wisdom to get more experience,
personally I think it would be crazy to get rid of coates, in 3 years we could potentially have agger/skrtel/caotes/kelly/wisdom/

Absolutely delighted with the Toure signing and fully expect him to start the season as first choice with Dagger. A really shrewd acquisition from BR and a coup of sorts for the club. I anticipate that Skrtel and Coates will depart for pastures new and possibly Sama, with the club looking to Ilori, Zouma or Papadopolous to provide depth at Centre Back.
Agger/Toure/One of the above/Kelly/Wisdom and Lloyd Jones gradually making his way give us some excellent options at the back next season - if we can hang on to Pepe I think our defence is in excellent overall shape with stability, continuity and a blend of leadership, experience and youth. Encouraging start to our transfer business, I expect a DM and a creative midfielder to follow soon along with some more departures - exciting times!
DT

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agree with this poster we have excelent youth coming through but would have thought it a bit early for lloyd jones, do see a bright future for him but not ready for a couple of years. Toure if we can get him fit an excellent signing

I have no idea what this post means.

Agree0 Disagree0

ITs about developing a self concept!

Agree0 Disagree0

I think it means that after days of moaning about Toure, Harry has decided to criticise other people for moaning about Toure.

Other alternatives are: Harry thinks Toure should believe he isn't good enough to have signed for us, Harry thinks that Toure wouldn't believe the fuss over him or Harry thinks that Toure wants to go back to City

Can't believe some people. Signing a 32 year old defender and the mananger should be sacked! Remember Gary Mac, 35 year old midfielder. If this site was around in 2000 then there would have been howls of derision. We won three cups in the following season and this guy was one of the most popular players we had. Just because of his age it doesn't mean he can't be an effective member of the squad. I believe virtually all players are squad players nowadays. Very few are automatic choices for every game. We need his experience so that younger players like Kelly and Wisdom can be allowed to develop. In 2000 a young midfielder called Gerrard was just beginning to develop!
Give Kolo a chance and let the manager manage.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think what we need is another kit. Not another Kid.

the no namers on this site make me cringe. get a grip of yourselves.

Or you could say we really need a policy of buying promising younger, hungry players with a re-sale value that keeps the wage bill down?
Is this the first signing we've made with our much-vaunted committee then ed?
The Juicer {Ed001's Note - pretty much, though it was defo Rodgers approved, he was keen on him.}

At least most people on here are more positive then (6 months ago?) thought some people on here were seconds away burning their shirts and about to slash their wrists!

Agree0 Disagree0

Let's just see where we are at Christmas with this type of shrewd signing, if this is a representation of the type of player BR is going after then i'm sure Carra will help him settle in on the couch as a pundit with his cheque for the rest of his contract sticking out of his arse pocket.

102 international caps, 2 league medals and 2/3 FA cups. Same age as Stevie. Can play 3 positions and he won't be a starter. We got someone with experience who can help a young team. He brings a bit of power to the squad and if we get papadopolous and Ilori with we'll have a nice core of defenders. He was free and I heard he got 55K a week with added performance incentives. So on a 2 contract he'll cost us 7M plus signing fee. I'd live with that.

Agree0 Disagree0

The difference mate is that people can track your posts, you don't get to change your mind every 30s without people noticing. And people using their real names - granted my name isn't samsam9000, but can you guess what it is?

in reference to toure. its good business in the sense he's getting an experienced prem cb in early. in the event of lastt seasons shambolic striker situation which caused us all sorts of problems. rodgers has got someone in early and that takes away the risk of missing out on a cb and been short. he could lose targets again. plus it let's him focus on other areas also to a degree. kompany was dreadfull for city this season in comparison to his high standards. I remember toure filling in when he was out injured and he was bery good. he played against utd and had a gr8 game and the games after. mad mancini took a form player out of his team after it

Greetings Ed's,

Welcome to Liverpool FC Kolo Toure, it seems Brendan Rogers might be the pet rescue for those wanting a loving home. I'm glad he's signed.

gdfantastic

It seems to me that part of the LFC transfer policy involves picking up young under-achievers with potential and talented fringe players who are proven but not able to force their way into the first team. Both command relatively low transfer fees.

i think the signing of kolo is a replacement for carra because he does have the experience and has won many things, and he is free, if he does not work out then we have not lost that much money, and his pedigree is worth a chance for us, his experience will help the other defenders, I hope downing goes because he has been playing better but he won't get us in the top 4 he is mediocre, we need a big def-mid like yaya toure, as good as lucas is he is not big enough, with the likes of suarez couthinio and sturridge we get goals, all we need now is a decent CB and a def-mid and a right winger and cover for left and right backs, we will then be ready for a top 4 or higher, BR has done a good job and hopefully he will get the players we need, we have young lads to come through the ranks. jordan ibe is better than sterling so I can't wait for his break through, and we know about kelly and wisdom, robbinson and flannagan, so the future looks very good, let's get behind BR and the team because we are going places inthe next few seasons

28 May 2013 20:41:12
Whats with all the complaining?. We're fast becoming an embarrassment, stop moaning and let's see what comes in the window. For my money Toure is a good bit of business. more than capable of fitting in at CB and also good cover for Lucas in Def Mid freeing up the likes of Allen to play his ACTUAL position in midfield when the time arises. I don't get some of our fans, he said he wanted to replace Carra with experience and he has. If they get him anywhere near fit he'll be a good addition.

You're crazy if you think Toure will play one minute of any game in midfield for us. Not going to happen, so that argument doesn't hold any water at all. You may be able to do it on FIFA, but no in the real world no. Centre back yes, centre or defensive mid, not a chance.

with agger/johnson we have ve experience why we are bringing toure in is beyond too old has lost pace. we should have got a younger player in on less wages and small fee. bayern bought dante and alaba for less than 10 mil euro combined. if the scouting team needs to meet and discuss toure we are in trouble with these guys.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

What are you on about mate, carragher is 3 years older than kolo and managed to keep out skrtel and probably the best young defender south america has to offer in 6, 5 sabasin coates and if at the beginning of last season you had said to me if I could swap carra for kolo then I bet 90% of us would as 90% of us couldn't wait to get rid of him, if you don't believe check the banter archives

echo reports that toure will be seen as a valuable squad player and papadopoulos is Brendan Rodgers No. 1 defensive target to replace Carragher

in other news Tello is said to be questioning his future at barcelona after the signing of Neymar with Liverpool interested in his services. he has a buy out clause of around 8.5 million pounds

futures looking very bright

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Tello must see Coutinho (who was playing at Barcelona's much less glamorous City rivals, Espanyol on loan last year!) Now Coutinho is a huge success and sensation at Liverpool in the Premiership, scoring goals and creating lots, so far. Tello might see it as a chance worth taking.

I personally don't see the hype being justified, I honestly think if he played for a team other than Barcelona or Real they'd be half the hype instantly. I've watched him on Youtube and he seem a bit of a greedy mucker to be fair but he does like to run a lot and that's always endearing, just look at Downing. :) I don't even know if there is genuine interest or if it was just a passing glance at a youth prospect. I always think doing business with Barcelona bites people on the rear on the way out of the door.

So if toure was called Toureinho and we paid 40million from him, from a club in brazil you've never watched play the fans would be happy.

While a good centreback in Toure who is premier league proven and would be cheaper then buying a new one to cover for carragher/skrtel/coates is a bad move?

Im losing faith with some of our fans.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I don't get it. He is a good organizer, strong in the air, can play a pass, solid good in the tackle. Why can't he fill the hole even if it is only for a couple of years.
I agree with you. People all want a young center half in for cheap, which is all well and good, until cette player makes a mistake that costs us a point.
Boring purchase or not Toure has what we lack at the minute.

If Carroll comes back I'd play him at centre back. He's fairly quick for a big lad. Excellent in the air and can play a pass. Why not!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Rubbish! he's not fleet of foot, takes an age to control a ball that's not perfectly weighted to him. he's tall and that's all he has going 4 him in respect of a cb. imagine him up against a nippy forward with bags of pace and a gr8 turn, left 4 dust. plus he would need endless training as a cb (given he's played cf all his life). he hasn't got a the tools. a good front man he is. he's made a mistake by turning down west ham, given allardyce is d only manager who impliments a style which suits him. he's risking a world cup place!

Excellent in the air, maybe decent to som degree but as you are joking and him playing CB we would have at least 1 penalty against us each game

Eriksen is an AM and an excellent player but do we need him? Who will he replace if he ever did come? Coutiniho? or Stevie G? Or maybe Hendo who has shone towards the end of the season? Would rather we buy what we realy need, DM to compete or cover Lucas, another CB and of course a proven keeper if Pepe leaves. I would like Erkisen but he wants Champions League. Hendo will become a cracking player for us

I have to say I was surprised, can't see the logic.

AJH

Agree0 Disagree0

AJH, it is pretty simple really, assuming we loose Skrtel and Coates + Jamie has gone, we have a young and injury prone Kelly and Wisdom coming through, meaning we need some additional experience in the centre at the back. Especially if Agger was to get injured. We wouldn't want to end up with two relative novices in the centre at the back.

Andy K

Agree0 Disagree0

Aston Villa's back line this season, young and inexperienced when Vlaar was in and out of the team, injuries, suspension and they suffered and leaked points and almost got relegated because they couldn't keep clean sheets, ''worse than a knocking shop'' I heard.

Logic see's you and smiles. Toure is a good bit of business. It's all well and good buying some inexperienced foreign league player (like City did Natasic) or we did with Coates, all the hype was there, won young player of the South American tournament and is not, nor ever has been up to Premiership standard. At least with Toure we have that bit of steel that a decade of being in the top four of the Premiership gives you. Carra had it, Rio has it, Terry has it, Terry doesn't have pace but he knows what this league means.

I'm all for getting the dapper Papa from Schalke as well, See ya Coates/Skrtel or both, I just see the context of having no European football, having limited funds and see Toure as a sure solid defender who's saved us the £10 million Swansea want for Williams.

**** ALLEGED CONTACT MADE FOR STRIKER ****

Strong rumours gathering re: A new bid to take fernando Torres back from chelsea fc for a very affordable 18m. currently contact has been made with Torres' representatives following repeated suggestions that he has continued to claim homesickness to senior players within the current LFC squad since last summer.

Brendan expected to pursue this deal once mourinho reinstated and Jose will look to bring in 2x new strikers this summer. Owners unlikely to sanction sale unless Torres accepts huge pay cut which he has alleged he is willing to do.

i knew we would sign kolo, for christ sake has brendon not learnt anything from our last few person managers who have ruined us in the transfer market. the reason he is coming to us is because no one else wanted him. think of it this way, if kolo was going to say tottenham or back to arsenal or utd would you be worried? or think to yourself, oh they have done well there? no. exactly. an over the hill average player who won't strenghthen us

we need quality

p. s. start praying that suarez stays

tomlfc

Believable1 Unbelievable0

No-one else seemed to want Sturridge or Coutinho? Think you need to wise up a bit as well, Toure is a great signing for us, with no AFCON this January he won't be missed and can fill the gap that the legend Jamie Carragher has left. He's 3 years younger than Carra and if he helps us with our short term goal of qualifying for the CL next season then great, we can use that and then go on to sign the so called quality which you are speaking of.

Agree0 Disagree0

Clueless *rolls eyes*

Agree0 Disagree0

Carragher has left leaving us weekened at the back. Toure comes in which has stengthened us. Its not rocket science. We play different to all the teams you mention and I doubt he is a player that they are needing. I bet if they did they would've went for him. Maybe they did. But he chose us who knows. What I do know is your a moan

Agree0 Disagree0

In the modern game, center back is probably the toughest position to get the right player. However one thing that is non-negotiable is you need experience. I'd rather have the benefit of a 32 year old kolo toure then a 22 year old kolo toure with limited experience and leadership skills. With the loss of Carra Brendan need to find a player who could replace his leadership in the team, personally I believe this is a very shrewd bit of business

Perhaps you would prefer Ashley Williams for £12m?

What a rubbish post! He was not wanted? I can mention 10 top european teams who wanted him, galatasary, fiorentina, valencia, milan, etc. he wanted to stay close to his family and brother and his wages combined are less than half what he made at City! I don't care at all who united or chelsea sign! I only care about us and kolo is better than skrtel and coates put together, very good very low risk signing! You would propably be happy we waste 20 million on the greek who is injury prone and unproven in the PL, people need to understand we still pay any signing signing on fee and wages and most players even have clauses of getting $ of any transfer fee! F. eks if Liverpool has such a clause in let's say suarez contract it would mean he will get a % of his remaining wages and 10% of any transfer fee.

Now Toure has signed, I see him as first choice with Agger. I do not see us signing some young talent from abroad as this is a risk as they may not be able to handle the premier league. Then we can gradually bring through Kelly for this position.

People can moan that Toure is old, wages etc etc. But he is a winner and has a proven track record and at 32 with the way our coaching staff have managed to keep players on the pitch and not on the treatment table this season. He can be a key player and not a squad player.

Welcome Kolo Toure. A superb signing, a great leader to organise our defense.
When City had all the money in the world and thought they could buy anyone the centre half they went for was Kolo Toure, and they made him captain. He was captain of Arsenal previously.
Obviously a talented and experienced defender with leadership qualities, on a free. Good work Rodgers, a player worth breaking our youth policy for, the experience we need whilst in a transition period.

If we can continue positively then I will be a very happy man, would like to see Papa along with a good passer such as Cabaye or someone similar, Clement Grenier would also be good. Digne would be another decent acquisition. And personally I'd prefer Krul or Mignolet over Vorm, simply due to age!

Am I the only one worried about Papa, He may be talented but at 21 and a bit of a injury risk he seems to an awful lot of money especially as defenders tend to reach there peak in there late 20's. Meanwhile very happy over Kolo and I hope he can reignite his career here with some good performaces

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Demba - ba was supposed to be an injury worry, look at him now, the management know what they are doing, and as far as kolo toure goes he has the experience and a winning mentality that we have lost with carra going

Stop panicking guys in BR we trust - I don't see the sale of Andy Carroll as an absolute must as long as FSG do invest £20m and we manage to keep hold Suarez and Reina.

I see the summer potentially shaping up like this

Ins

Digne (or another young LB) £6m
Toure - free
Papadopolous - £14m
Eriksen - £12m
Ilori - £3m
Signing fees - £12m
Total - £47m

I don't think we need another attacking player but if the right one becomes available (Tello etc) then I think BR will try to make the deal happen. I would like us to sign a defensive midfielder though (Wanyama etc) but I don't think BR sees it as a priority.

Outs

Spearing - £3m
Coates - £7m
Pacheco - £1m
Assaidi - £3m
Shelvey - £5m
Skrtl - £8m
Transfer budget - £20m
Total - £47m

This looks pretty positive to me, even if we lose Reina we could look to sign Begovic, it would obviously be better if Carroll does go but I don't think it's an absolute necessity.

I think we've got to remain positive. I know we've had some terrible transfer windows but I think BR has a clear idea what he wants for the future and I think it looks really exciting.

I think he'll be a good signing and I think it's a shrewd move if I'm honest. There is a lot of rebuilding required at Liverpool and we don't have the money that city or Monaco have so we have to use our money wisely. Even with his wages and signing on fee we are getting a good defender for cheap which leaves us with more money to strengthen other areas (including centre half again) with other signings. Toure seems to be a good character too so I'm sure he'll be welcomed with open arms

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I'd like to echo your post, Kolo Toure is a commanding centre back and much like our beloved Carragher, Toure started in midfield, then was deployed as a fullback on the right side before Wenger converted him to centre back where he has been a tremendously successful player, which is why City splashed £16 million on him 3 seasons ago.

What a great bit of transfer work and to be honest there isn't many who could come in and replace Carragher as ''Premiership ready'', Toure is pretty much as close to Carragher for experience and quality that we could have hoped for. But on a free transfer, we've done very well.

Bravo Rodgers and co, maybe some of the fans need to remember we haven't got any European football to offer and in retrospect this is a big achievement, as Toure is a CL ever present. Bravo on Toure as well, he's obviously a believer in what we are attempting to achieve here, he's willing to work with the youngsters, as he was happy to at Arsenal and help be part of a new team building up.

I Can't believe we've signed Kolo Toure. What is BR thinking? Are we just signing players for the sake of it now? What a waste of wages when we have good young players ready to step up. I think Skrtel and Coates are terrible players (always have) but an ancient Kolo Toure is no better, can he even play 90 mins?

Skrtel was our player of the season last year and was only left out of the team due to Carraghers plans to retire. Carragher deserved a good send off and that's what he got.

Coates has had only 2 starts this season. How can judge a player on only 2 starts?

I would love to know your reasons?

Also Mr No Name, if Toure is not a good aquisition then who would you have in mind? And your reasons please!

Coates is a stiff, he's slower than Carra and isn't mobile enough to play in the prem.

His Oldham performance sums him up completely, he showed every Liverpool fan just how rubbish he actually is, Kelly is 10 times the player Coates is.
I would have signed Dede instead of Kolo Toure, he's just signed for Cruzeiro for Just over £4mil. I take it you know who he is. Oh and my names Chris, why do you want my name?

Cheers PDLFC

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Not that I know this but I think it after reading quite a bit on the lad. I hear Luke Shaw is set on replacing Ashley Cole for Chelsea. He's a big London blue as well, not that it means everything but it might mean something.

He's got ability in abundance and should/could stay at St Mary's (I almost typed 'The Dell' in my confusion) for another season before he goes to Chelsea, or elsewhere. I think Southampton already rate the lad much higher than they did Bale, when Bale was Shaw's age and see him as a current £18 million pound signing for any potential suitor. Just my opinions on what i've read and seen of the lad, top youth lad doing a great job. I thought Jack Robinson was going to be what Luke Shaw has become. : ( Games make players!

1 young cb will be bought and toure will arrive because carra decided to stop for experience. skrtl and cuates will be sold. and another left back will be bought. with skrtl/cuates sold we will proberly spend 50% on our defense wages would be the same with carra retiring. carroll will be sold he will proberly end up in newcastle, it would not surprise me if newcastle told him to play it this way knowing we need his transfer sum to invest. shelvey/assaidi will proberly be sold and 1 midf bought, 1 in the mould of eriksen a ball playing midfielder that's how br wants to play. carroll funds are needed to buy another winger/striker. how I see it we could recoup 35mil +the 20 mil we are told we have from the budget there should be no problem getting 5 better players in. we need to spend on 4 players toure is a free agent. malta

And finally will he bring his brother with him? (Jokes)

Red Lee

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Its not that he doesn't want to play for West Ham it's he won't throw way the wages he is on. simple.

I reckon he is first choice with Daniel Agger, with Martin Kelly as back up to both centre backs and right back.

The rumours are Skrtel & Coates will leave and we will sign another young centre back to make four CB's.

Kolo Toure should be a very effective defender for us and, if we sign a new goal keeper his experience will be even more invaluable.

Personally think Toure is a good signing, look at the top 4, all of them have at least 1 very experienced centre back. United - Vidic/Ferdinand. City - Lescott, as well as Kompany who I think is the best in the league, with Nastasic a talent as well. Chelsea - Terry. Arsenal - Mertesacker. Toure also has experienced winning the league before, which none of our centre backs have.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I'm quite happy with Toure coming in, he's a solid performer, I think we are fortunate to be signing such experience and quality for free/fee.

We can't rightly judge free transfers on the basis of Joe Cole, Voronin, Jovanovic or even Maxi Rodriguez (who I thought had plenty of success in his time for us, cheers Maxi). Each case is different, we are getting a top player who has been neglected at City due to other players being preferred, in this case Lescott and Kompany. That's no shame, again my opinion.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 May 2013 16:31:47
Am I in the minority in thinking that I don't want Toure to join LFC, there has obviously been some reasoning to why we would bring him in but I can't see what those reasons are.

I would much prefer a younger, hungry player who wants to play for LFC not just for money.

Buying / Signing older players on high wages hasn't worked for LFC in the past i. e. Cole, Poulsen and Konchesky.

What's peoples thoughts!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

If you cannot see the reasons why it might work out as a good deal for Liverpool (whether you agree they are enough to take the risk of signing him or not), then I think this discussion will be pointless

Agree0 Disagree0

Toure still has decent pace, good positioning, good in the air, good on the ground. He's still a top defender which is why City paid £16 million for him three seasons ago.

I understand the proposed transfer, as it makes sense. Toure isn't as good as Carragher but he's quite close and seasoned as was Carragher. Experience counts for a lot with central defenders, especially if we are looking for a young lad to come in and help bridge the gap left by Carragher's exit.

Ashley Williams for £10 million or, Kolo Toure on a free? That seems to be are most likely options at present. I'd take Kolo Toure and use the money saved somewhere else in the squad. We still have Agger and at least for the time being, Skrtel. Although I don't for one moment think Toure is content to warm Liverpool's bench next season.

Agree0 Disagree0

I just replied to an earlier similar post.
Ignoring the high wages bit, because none of us know the details. but to me this signing will only make sense if Skrtel is leaving. but if Skrtel staying, then we should 've gone for a younger option with some experience.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree0 Disagree0

To the anonymous poster, knobody has seen him play for 2 years so where are you getting all these attributes from? He was an ordinary footballer at Arsenal, and it's wildly known that when City came in for him for £16mill they snapped there hands off. You are some of the most bias Liverpool fans I have ever seen, you are aloud to question decisions the club make you know.

This is an Everton type of signing, we are skint so let's shop around the bargain bins in poundland type signing, what have we become? It truely is shocking. God how I despise F$G.

Waro

Agree0 Disagree0

What's with the Williams for £10m or Toure on a "free" (that's a hundred k a week free by the way, no doubt) question?
That's no choice, both would be a waste of money.
At his peak, Carra was a £15-20m player IMO, so that's what we should be going for. The old adage, a strong spine to the team. Looks like we're going to lose Pepe as well, so that's another position where FSG can't cut corners. It's a tough life being an owner, especially after the money they've already spent, but cost-cutting to the spine of the team is a no no.

Is your pint glass half empty or half full I think toure will be a very useful squad player with plenty of premiership experience and don't think he will be on massive wages 100k a week no chance fsg just cut the wage bill down and don't think are just going to bump it back up as easy as that And even if he was where still saving on what carraghers wages where which I'm sure would of been close to 150k a week so stop whinging and back our players 100% wether you agree or not

Agree0 Disagree0

Personally think toure will be a squad player, I hope he won't be first choice as that would be slightly concerning. We need a top top centre half alongside dagger. Just to be controversial I'd sell Lucas and replace him with a real defensive midfielder to protect the back 4. How I miss masch

If Toure arrives on a free (for a signing on fee) we won't need to re-coup a tremendous loss. If his wagers are sky high then we wouldn't even entertain such an idea as signing him in the first place.

This is the whole point, it's financially viable and suits Liverpool's needs right now. We are very fortunate that Toure (a Champions League ever present throughout his career) is willing to come and put his test and strength to the metal and pick up what Carragher has rightly decided to put down.

Suarez antics on the pitch are nothing compared to carrolls off the pitch! Suarez trains hardest and stays after training to work on his freekicks and shooting etc. Carroll shows up an hour late hung over, and is horrible on the pitch! Just like that ofcourse I would stop watching until he is sold, I spend my money travelling to anfield and don't want to spend it to watch the donkey carroll, excuse my french! because carroll doesn't deserve no chances no more, he got over 50 of them! Are you 20 or something? Iam an old man and have supportered this club for 40 years, but I boikot them when my blood pressure rises etc. Just like under hodgson I didn't travel to anfield once! Sorry if that bothers you sam but what I spend my hard earned cash on is only for me to decide, and if carroll is still a Liverpool player come next season I won't go to anfield until he is gone, I will watch on tv even though I know nothing good would come from him staying! U guys don't understand if Carroll stays it will be a disaster for our club WH really want him and are willing to pay 15m but he doesn't want to go because they can only offer half of his wages. So 1 he's either going to stay an just be an impact sub wich means next year he'll be worth 5m. Or Newcastle will bid 10m for him right now an hell go to them. Either way Carroll is screwing us over.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

If he doesn't want to go to West Ham, them why make him?

The thing is, you don't understand.

He's got a contract with Liverpool Football Club.

Yes, for our club he needs to go - yes, for the sake of his career he needs to go - but nowhere on a contract or in the game of football does it suggest that a club can bully a player into joining a club he doesn't want to join (that's assuming he doesn't want to go to West Ham).

Anyway, If it was me I'd personally tell Sam to stick his head up his ring-piece as he's a mouthy basket.

From day-one Carrol's transfer was destined to fail - and it wasn't really all his fault - yet there is plenty of time until the start of the next season so there will be other clubs interested.

I don' blame him.

DaveyBootle

Agree0 Disagree0

How is Carroll screwing us over? Look at it from his angle, would you want to leave us for West Ham permantly? Know disrespect to West Ham, he wanted to stay at Newcastle until Commoli made ridiculous offer after ridiculous offer until the club more or less told him he was going.

Your in the bigtime when you play for us, just look how crazy it gets around the world when we play pre-season friendlys, there treated like gods wherever they go, you don't get that at teams like West Ham. Or maybe he feels he will be there longer than the manager if we have a bad start, who knows.

The only way I can see it as screwing us over is if Newcastle have been in his ear and told him to knock any team back because they will come in for him on the cheap and we will have no choice but to accept there offer, but that's a bit CSI Gateshead all that. So lay of the kid, I would rather he went, but for the right money, he's done nothing wrong that i've seen so it's unfair to blame him for the fee, and all he's ever said is he wants to fight for his place, what's wrong with that?

Waro

Agree0 Disagree0

Davey and Waro, I understand what you are saying, but I rather think Carroll is stalling simply because he wants a move to Newcastle, as Waro, one of the possibilities you pointed out.

Look at it this way, if Newcastle were offering a similar deal to what West Ham were offering, would he have said "no"?

The real AG

Agree0 Disagree0

It's wrong because he knows where Liverpool are right now he knows we need that 15m to bring in better players, I know it's not his problem but he's setting us back by staying! Plus he knows the fans don't want him and the manager had told him he won't play alot, selfish in my opinion, Newcastle will now come in with a stupid 7/10m offer and we 'll have no choice but to accept it.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 May 2013 16:26:52

Sinclair is not an option he is only being linked due to the relationship with Rodgers no legs to that one though
Begovic is wanted by Liverpool but stoke want a lot he more than likely will not be coming until the reina deal is completed Suarez could I repeat could be sold but any bids less than 45 mil will be rejected if he is sold it is the understanding that Brendan will be given the majority of that to buy another striker or two. Well lads. Saying as we got 50 million upfront for a player who was in decline an had a transfer request handed in I think we'd be crazy to sell Suarez for a penny less. The owners aren't stupid, and in my opinion will leak interest an the value of bids that have been rejected to try and drum up interest. After all they see LFC as a business, and if they can sell Suarez for 50 plus million then they will. Expect a bidding war between City and Real. I don't have any facts or profess to know anyone within the club, this is just my opinion. Would I sell him for 50 plus million, yea I think I would.

My god, if a keeper kept 38 clean sheets a season, but every single drop kick landed in Stanley park, do you know what I'd do? I'd sign him and tell him to roll it out to the fullbacks, or throw it out to somebody open. Simples!

Begovic is a good option. Mingolet and Vorm are not the commanding keepers we crave.

If Begovic really can't kick, he can roll it to Agger instead.

its a shame we did not get into the cl spots this season we could have really kicked on. watching br the last season I think enrique/skrtl/hendersen and downing are not in the long term plans. he shifted them all around and in out the team, with cl football we would have more money to spend. carra retiring did not help we will need to spend on 2 cb. the way I see it is we should buy only 4 players 2 cb 1 starter and 1 back up. 1 right winger and make a squad player. and a new left back enrique relies to much on his speed and keeps the ball to long. ideally we would bring a player like eriksen but I think the money is not there. sell skrtl, cuates, carroll, assaidi. 4 1 in 4 out. malta

But then look at the work done on Agger, for example, who was fit throught the whole season, bar 2 matches, so maybe that wouldn't be too much of a problem. Especially if his operations have gone well}

Agree0 Disagree0

How many years has he got left on his contract? {Ed052's Note - 3 years,I think}

If by selling suarez for £30 million pounds, can we replace his 30 goals with the £30 million? i'm not so sure we can?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Luckily if he is sold it will probably be for around twice that then. Since when have Liverpool let players they don't want to leave go cheap.

30mill not a chance of him going for that LFC got 50 for ft the same at least for ls

Good morning eds,

Hope you're well. Couple of quick questions if you'd be so kind as to answer. I heard Carroll will reject west Ham because he wants to go back to Newcastle, is this accurate and if so will it affect the transfer fee? Second question, a journalist friend of mine says rafa will sign Lucas and Torres, or at least attempt to, is this accurate?

Thanks eds {Ed052's Note - I still expect Carroll to go. I dony know of any interest in lucas, and dont think either the club or Rodgers would be in a rush to sell him}

Just been doing some transfer calculations: If we Sell Suarez (hope not) 50m, Carroll 12-15m, Skirtle 10m, Reina 12m, Shelvey 7m, Downing 8m all could leave us with around 100m + the 25m FSG kitty gives us potentialy 125m to spend this summer.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Great! Except we'll need a star forward, a right winger, a top goalkeeper and two first team CB's from that before we even start to build the rest of the team to be actually better than this year

Hello Eds,
are we seriously looking at a DM this window?
Because I seriously feel we need one as in our current Midfield I see Lucas as the weakest link and a top DM would change that. I am in no way saying sell Lucas but some competition would be nice especially by selling Shelvey. What are your thoughts?
Etinne Capoue would be my choice and he is available for around 8-10 million. {Ed052's Note - we are looking for one more midfielder, probably a defensive one}

Fabio Borini 5m
Suso 2m
Jonjo Shelvey 6m
Martin krtel 7m
Jon Flanagan 2m
Dani Pacheco Free
Stewart Downing: 10m

Toure: Free
Alonso: 12m
Erikson 21m
Ince: 6m

If/when Suarez does leave, surely Rodgers will have considerable more money to play with. If so, does anyone know or have any information on who's lined up for a replacement, as money aside having a proper replacement is the most important for Rodgers, as he'll be the one judged on this not Ayre or FSG but the manager, as always. (I have RTFP btw just want opinion on this very likely event which could hit us any day. Who's the man to fill the void left by Suarez? Or is Sturridge seen as the one? Which allows us to strengthen elsewhere? It's like we are at an important fork in the road.

For me Benteke doesn't seem to fit in with the game Rodgers has us adopting, although I think he's good, needs some work on maturing his loyalty (as the ed's have mentioned) but he is a juggernaut when on form and can't be stopped easily, if at all, certainly a good player in form, but would he fit in with our footballing approach?

Cheers all, peas and rice.

Personally I love Suarez to bits but if Real Madrid or Byern want to pay £60 million or more for him we should snap their hand off he is an unbelievable player put I think it would be better for the team to strengthen inn different areas to push on we have looked good without him you just can't turn down that much, we could shore up defense few more quality players to add to the youth it all goes down to what sort of money Fsg give Rodgers we should get at least £25 million from other sales plus what kitty they through in we may not need to sell Luis

there is a difference between having money and buying players.
either you pay insane wages to satisfy their personal needs. in return u don't get any loyalty.

our recent performance in past 5 years makes us pretty average.

If we keep Suarez & tighten up defensively we should be fine next season. The Sturridge/Suarez combo showed promise & even though Coutinho has proven himself on the left wing, he looks much better & has more options operating in the hole behind the strikers. I'm looking for the left winger to draw defenders out of position thus making more space for Coutinho to work his magic. that's what we saw against qpr when Ibe drew defenders all over the place & Coutinho automatically became more of a goal threat. That would give us 4 players who could be considered serious goal threats who could realistically reach double figures in the goals department. Sturridge, Suarez, Coutinho & Gerrard. Maybe even 5 consistent goal scorers if Borini or Sterling start scoring more. I think they can because the same way the wide players will create space & chances for the likes of Sturridge, Suarez, Coutinho & Gerrard, These players are also creative & that will give Borini/Sterling more space as well. Lucas maybe a midfielder but he is primarily a defender there to break down attacks before they reach the 18 yard box. its all theory but we've seen the signs & its realistic b/c we already have the players that I've mentioned. We may not be able to sign the likes of Erikkson Papa etc. but if we do they will just make our push more realistic as they are undoubtedly quality players. slodge

at the end of the day edd is one man one opinion like us all. u can't please everyone. i'm sure he can find superlatives for benitez, given he's a chelsea fan and d recent events with benitez been there. At end of the day benitez delivered and with that team he would acheive gr8 things. But given the fact chelsea fans collectively (like a group of edd002s really) and their agendas or opinions against him determined his fate. I however like rodgers. couldn't care less what he says but what he does over a given time which is yet to happen. by no means a dig at edd002, but what i'm saying is u can't be offended by opinion. I love the sarcy stuff. Its a thick skinned world in my view. the constant barrage of the same question would provoke the same response from me. But just because he finds rodgers a flake in his mind is fine. We are all flawed as human beings, and peoples attitude or how they act can irk anyone in all walks of life. mourinho for example (in my opinion) is a dreadfull fella, but the man wins and that's d bottom line. me calling him a dreadfull fella, shouldn ruin your xmas. team rodgers, team lfc. Nice post. agree totally. I offend people daily with my flakyness but mine and their lives go on. I think rogers has done a resonable job and deserves to carry on for now.

I am not one of those who think we can achieve top 4 next season, and as ed2 had hinted if we don't rogers is gone. Again we will cross that bridge when we get to it, just hoping we can bring in some quality ala coutinho and not squad fillers ala allen and borini et al.

My thoughts on Begovic ( if coming):
He is not quite the finished GK and still trails behind Reina as his kicking is not up to par (Reina has one of the best gk kicking in the world, most of the time it gets to the spot +did you see him hit the crossbar from half way in training in 'being Liverpool' and win the bet vs BR, simply amazing, I don't blame Begovic for not being better) and his Postioning is mediocre. But he is still young (26 this summer) and can improve.
Pros:
He is one of the quickest off his lines
Reflexes are good

I hear many saying Mignolet is better, but Mignolets kicking worries me, Gives possesion most of the time and in corners, i'm not impressed.
ANYWAYS that's my thought now over to you

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Begovic has kept only 2 clean sheets less than reina this season. playing for stoke

Agree0 Disagree0

I think this rubbish about 'distribution' or 'no good with his feet' as people have been typing about Mingolet recently. It's a load of cods-wallop. A goal keeper needs first and foremost to be secure in his own goal mouth, needs to stop shots and know how to effectively command his defenders in play and set pieces, then he needs to offer some protection from corners and clearing stray balls to safety. Bergovic does all of this quite well in my opinion, he's proved himself a top keeper at Stoke.

If his ''distribution'' isn't as good as Reina's then he can work on it, he can utilise his abilities in the best way he can to fit the team. I think it's so short sighted and almost buzzword-like to pick up on Bergovic's ''distribution''. When Crouch was playing regularly in his first season at Stoke Bergovic was picking him out for fun, as was Bergovic picking out K Jones quite well when required and he doesn't even bother running, so his distribution can't be that bad, can it!

But this is all mute and becomes about as pointless as possible when it is considered that Rodgers wants us playing from the back and not knocking it long and giving away the ball, tempo and flow of our game.

Just a thought about your thought.

Agree0 Disagree0

Mignolet is also dodgy in the air.

Diego Capel VS Christian Atsu thoughts?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Downing is better than both waist if money!

Agree0 Disagree0

Atsu has got a good left hook and has the power to destroy capel, but capel is the better all round fighter and will control the fight using his jab to keep atsu at bay. I can see it going the distance and capel taking it on points.

Fester

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't think Atsu is really a match for Capels left hook and jab

Agree0 Disagree0

There is a recent 17 minute video of Atsu and it looks like he can be a handle full but needs work, taking on a player for Atsu is standing still and then doing a 100 metre dash passed his opponent time and time again.

Capel I think goes missing far too much. He had great potential but in recent seasons he has completely fell off of my radar and become ''one of them'' classy players who go off the boil and struggle to come back again.

I'm all for Rodgers taking his chances and putting his man management skills to the test with players like Capel because if it pays off then it's great, if not then it's not a drastic amount of cash to come up with in the context of things.

I think Coutinho was one of those players, hugely regarded in his youth days in Brazil, Inter Milan neglected the talent Coutinho has and Rodgers wanted to take a punt on the lad because he had shown so much promise and was convinced in his abilities as a manager and the lad as a player. It all clicked with Coutinho better than any could have hoped for, so far. Would it with Capel, should he move to us?

Atusu has no baggage in comparison, has a tremendous burst of pace, a little rough around the edges and needs refinement in his game. The reported £3 million'ish he'll cost is very encouraging because the lad has ability and has great athleticism, not sure he is technically apt enough for Rodgers though. Just my near to know nothing opinions mind you. :)

Agree0 Disagree0

Atsu in round 5.

Agree0 Disagree0

Unfortunately Ali, when you ask questions like that you are very likely to get the opinion of plenty of people who have never seen either play (or, if you're lucky, have seen them both once)

Agree0 Disagree0

28 May 2013 09:12:14
Atsu ofcourse, I watched him in the african cup of nations and he was a real talent! Will be cheap because he has 1 year left and is refusing to sign a new deal, young, will only get better and in my humble opinion in a couple of years time will be double the player downing is!

Also I read a lot of people having a go at fsg for going for Aspas! I would love to have aspas! Anyone comparing him to assaidi is clueless beyond limits! Assaidi lack of an end product and workrate is shocking, while aspas has a great end product and a type of player who doesn't stop running, left footed and very skilful! And he plays for Celta because its his home team and he is some kind of a cult figure in the city! Great flair player who would be a gem!
