I hope EFC's tribute for the 96 brothers and sisters we have lost will remind people of true humanity and the preciousness of life. I would like and hope that other fans of all football clubs to show empathy and respect as we still wait for justice. My family are both proud and passionate reds and blues. When I was a young lad playing football representing my district (Bootle Boys) we would be given free tickets to watch EFC, although a Red I would go with team mates and friends of the blue persuasion to the match because I loved football and still do. I would also go to watch EFC reserves when my Dad, brother and myself couldn't get into Anfield. For those who can remember LFC 7-0 v Spurs, we couldn't get in Anfield so we walked across Stanley Park and watched Duncan MacKenzie play keep ball for EFC ressies! I share this message as a way of a tribute to the 96 and also to the generation of LFC and EFC supporters who would watch both teams but obviously have an allegiance to their own teams; I for one wish humility, respect, justice and passion are the qualities we see over the coming months as the fight for justice continues. Our family lost a true Evertonian and proper old school football fan recently who used to watch both teams as a young woman, she also had a great sense of humour as she would refer to our manager as Brenda (God bless you Joan!)

In memory of those lost, we will never forget and hope our dreams of winning the league come true as a fitting tribute.

We may have the most difficult run in, but in having the most difficult run in we are also the team with the most opportunities to affect our opponents title ambitions.
We play both teams that are ahead of us in the title race, true pressure but a true opportunity too.

Ed's a ques, Has a team won 14 consecutive matches in the premier league era and what is the most number of consecutive wins?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - the record is 14 by Arsenal.}

Thanks for crushing my hopes lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

Records are meant to be broken ;)

I thought Spuds won a lot in a row when they finished top 4 under 'Arry. It felt like they won 18 in a row anyway, all last minute hat-tricks by Bale.

ed wats going on with Enrique was said he would be fit in jan then heard nothing is he still injured when is he back if back this season cheers

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I was only thinking that the other day, I just keep getting told there is no date for him to return yet. Not sure why, perhaps it is just not responding to treatment properly? I never thought to ask, which was silly, I was too busy thinking 'but he has been out months they surely must have a return date by now' to think of asking what the issue was.}

Strange one eds a while back sure Rodgers said he was couple weeks away and on lfc site says we have full squad has he fallen out with someone?

Agree0 Disagree0

Enrique has been sent to the USA for second opinions. that's the last I heard and that was a few weeks back.

This pressure bandwagon we are reading in the press is laughable. We let in a late goal v Sunderland and got nervy. Well yes but let's face it watching Liverpool in most games this season has been like that (apart from the thrashing of Everton, Spurs, Arsenal and Man U).

It's not crumbling to pressure. It's actually the Liverpool way for 2013/14 season.

And so I fully expect rest of season to be exactly the same. You can call it pressure or you can call it nerves. I on the other hand am going to call it "2013/2014 Champions" style of play!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Think ya right there Gidgo,
We all view each & every game differently, but for me, I have seen nothing (as yet) to make me feel as though we are even 'nearly' crumbling under the pressure.
I think the exact opposite in fact (thus far). Did we get a bit nervy last week? of course we did and rightly so, but following that game most people outside of lfc would try and have us believe that we almost 'crumbled' ( well, most of my mates anyway!)
Personally, I felt pretty comfortable and think we saw the game out very well, specially the last 7/8 mins.
Its still freeflowing stuff and we look like banging one in every time we pile forward, unbelievable stuff to watch.

We all know that 'squeaky bum' time is almost upon us, and none of us know who is going to 'blink' first!
Right now I don't think its going to be us.
Good times.

I have a feeling Rodgers will shake it up on sunday tactically. Could we possibly see a return of 3-5-2? Or 4-3-3? What do you guys think? I have a feeling Spurs will try and flood the middle to combat our current formation. I could see us using RS and GJ as the wing backs, Lucas and Gerrard holding with coutinho as the pivot.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think you could be bang on with spurs tactics I think after the Sunderland game we may see a few more teams set up against us the same as sunferland 5 at the back 2 holding sunderland managed to stifle us a little for spurs 3'5'2 would be ok play with wing backs or 4'3'3 but bring sterling back in as hopefully it will be dawson at the back and he's as mibile as a gianr redwood so have the front 3 all witj pace to round the back have stevie in the holding role henderson allen/coutinho in front of him if we can get a goal and its close swap a player for lucas but i'm not a managet but I was good at the old lma if it boosts my credentials any I doubt it lol

EP I was wondering this as well.

I was looking at Ours and Tottenham's last formation on SS preview, wondering how BR would set us up.

I'm really suprised how poor Tottenham's results are, they have a strong starting XI in my opinion.

Having said that, they look weak in the wide areas (particularly in behind their two wingers, Lennon and Eriksen). I would expect BR to drop Allen in this game to be honest and bring Sterling back in on the right and play Sturridge or Suarez primarily playing in the left area (probably Sturridge).

I think we would set up more like 4-1-2-2-1 so that we could let Sturridge and Sterling get at their fullbacks.

Having said that it might make us look like we are setting up defensively so we could set up 4-1-2-3 (which would look similar from how our wide men work anyway). If this formation was used I'd expect a midfield of Gerrard - Hendo - Allen with SAS up front, which would mean the Cout wouldn't start.

But hey, what the hell do I know? :)

Agree0 Disagree0

The 3 man midfield has worked very well and our defence looked worse without it. However, I would like to see Lucas come in for Allen. Allen's effort is 100%, but he is just out of his depth and his distribution is awful and leads to loss of possession too often. Get Lucas back in and that will make the midfield a bit more solid and hopefully protect the back 4 a bit more.
Rotate Sterling and Coutinho, keep them fresh for the run-in.
Each game gets bigger

Agree0 Disagree0

He certainly will not be playing 3 central defenders or wing backs. If its not broke don't fix it!

Agree0 Disagree0

The irish rover, we play wing backs every week mate. that formation worked very well at the start of the season, and that was mostly without Coutinho. (3-5-2)

Agree0 Disagree0

Stop over thinking chaps. It will be a
4-4-2 diamond or 4-3-3

Simple

Agree0 Disagree0

What's wrong with playing Coutinho and Sterling together? Both top players

Agree0 Disagree0

In my opinion we play with 2 full backs who push forward just like most top teams have these days. Wing backs are used when you play with 3 central defenders. We did use it for a cople of games (3 central defenders). From memory it was a disaster.

Agree0 Disagree0

DBOL
We have used both players in the past but that would now mean dropping Allen. I think his performances deserve him to stay in (im not his greatest fan). I think we look a bit more solid with Allen in imo.

Agree0 Disagree0

If you goto the epl index website and look at some of our tactic reviews you'll see from our wing backs average position (mainly halfway line) you'll see that we use wing backs. The 3-5-2 wasn't a disaster, we just run out of playees to field it in honesty.

Agree0 Disagree0

433 same team vs tottenham first leg… Suarez and Sterling wide, Coutinho and Hendo ahead of Gerrard.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Mar 2014 15:49:23
I can see Sterling moving to more of a central striking position in a few years time. With additional experience, coaching and training he will become a far superior finisher. Already at his young age he has great positional sense and movement for a striker.
He has also found the net 6 times this season which is more times than a few of the strikers have scored in the EPL. He also has the added benefit of electrifying pace and upper body strength not be knocked off the ball.
When Suarez does move on in a few years we may already have his ready made replacement.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

And we still have ibe to come through if we didn't buy any 1 in a few years a front 3 of sturridge ibe and sterling that's if saurez is no longer here but front 3 of them would be pretty good well if they all fulfill promise shown

7 games left. April and still in the title race. Underdogs (regardless of mind games) but still there.

My heart tells me we can win it while my head says, but Chelsea have a very easy run in, Man City have only lost once in the league since November, then my Head says beat Chelsea and Man City and only City will lead us by one point (assuming all three win all their other games).

I think Brendan Rodgers has done fantastic and the results since Jan 2013 have been amazing. I hope this is for a sign of things to come.

I'm hoping the Sunderland game was a wake up call; regardless of how we play there will be times when we don't score 5 every match; as Stevie said "we've won nothing yet"; true but if we continue improving year on year we will be in the mix for years to come.

Now need to make it 8 from 8 this Sunday (hoping Spurs back line has a similar influence to the game at their place).

Believable0 Unbelievable0

28 Mar 2014 15:12:53
We Just need to focus our fixtures, let's leave rest to Destiny, I don't see city winning all of their remaining games, they will slip up.
We beat cheslea and then they can't harm us.
First Spurs. I am expecting City and Chelsea to slip up this week.

Agree0 Disagree0

I can see Chelsea winning on Saturday Harry. Obviously hoping that Grandpa Pulis does something special, but can't see it myself. Maybe a draw at the Emirates though for City!

Agree0 Disagree0

The chances of us winning all of our remaining games is very unlikely. we will drop as many points as city and chelsea. i'm happy with top 4 and 3rd is a bonus. if we manage to get any higher then that i'll be absolutely wrapped

Agree0 Disagree0

Chelsea might get distracted by the CL.
Citeh have 2 extra games to fit in.

Both clubs seem able to win the big games but both are vulnerable in the little games. I can see Norwich being a factor in the title race.

I see Sami Hyypiä has been given the dreaded vote of confidence at Bayer Leverkusen.
IF he were to be given the sack do you think he would be any good coming back to LFC to coach the defenders we have here?
Could be a double edged sword too as he would gain valuable coaching experience from BR!
Not sure what the chance's would be or even if he would be any good as a defensive coach but I for one would love to see him back at the club in some capacity.
Thoughts?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The onlyu problem with this is just how big a staff can we have? Every time an admired ex-player's name crops up someone says I would live him back at the club. A line has to be drawn somewhere

Agree0 Disagree0

Sami has got a taste for managing doubt he would be a coach plus he said he learned from rafa so no thanks

Agree0 Disagree0

I used to like the idea of sami 1 day coming back to manage but dezzyboys right if he took his coaching philosophy from rafa then no iv only watched his team twice so don't know if he's attack or defense minded his win percentage has only dropped 3% from last year but the bundesliga has to be hard to win with bayern dortmund I think lever were the sixth biggest spenders in the summer so I don't know what they expected him to do in the league they were great first half of season struggled a bit second half it be a shame if he got sacked but footballs a results buisness

I have read and heard opinions from many fans of different clubs over the last few days, about whether or not Liverpool can cope with the pressure that going for a league title can cause. and I say, what pressure? the pressure is not on LFC to win the league. our main goal was to secure champions league football next season. we have almost mathematically completed that task and it just so happens we are not very far from the top. all we can do is go out every match and enjoy how our season has developed as well as our football. I love watching teams play when there is no pressure. its so relaxed and natural and almost impossible to play against.
A Premier League title would be nice though.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

After reading your post the thought occured to me.what club would most fans prefer to win the league if their own club doesnt, personally, I would choose man city

Agree0 Disagree0

I was reading paul mersons picks for the weekend games he does on the sky app he seemed to think we performed badly against sunderland due to the title pressure I just think it was 1 of those games where we didn't perform as well as we can it happens but he also picked us to win so no complaints there mers is ok even if his name pronunciation is a accident waiting to happen and if we weren't to win it my first choice was arsenal but that's unlikely so city lesser of 2 evils

Gibelt

Dont think so, We were infact over confident, Sunderland came with 5 at back and 2 Holding players in the middle,
Any other team would have been drawn (Cheslea vs Westham, UTD vs Fulham)
We scored 2 should have been 5, If Suarez wasnt poor.
Spurs would defo not sit back which will open up space in the middle.
We would score and conceede against spurs.

7 Division 1 titles -

(The same number of top flight titles that Chelsea and Man City have in TOTAL combined for the entire existence of football.)

4 Division 2 titles

1 FA Cup (OK not too great!)

3 Charity Shields

Does that answer your question?

To be fair Liverpool did win 7 times (i think) before the 70s. Which is a considerable amount more than say Spurs.

Just interested in hearing where you (eds and fellow readers/writers) want us to strengthen in the summer?! What positions?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

A decent lb and replacements for anyone that leaves is all we need in my opinion. With our on loan players and young players coming back/through, I think we have enough and would rather give them a chance and get our finances sorted than splash money for the sake of it.

Agree0 Disagree0

Can anyone think of any player in the last 10 years who has gone away on loan for a season or two at 18/19 and then returned to be a huge success at their parent club?

The only one I can think of is Ramsey at Arsenal, and he's only had half a decent season.

It doesn't seem to be what happens anymore.

I think managers lose a bit of faith in players they have sent out on loan because they have had 6/12 months of not learning under the team.

I would love Suso, Borini, Assaidi et al to come back and be a huge success, but at 20/23/25 you have to wonder if they ever will be. Are they really that much better than those who have spent most of the season learning the BR way, Teixeira, Aspas, Ibe?

(And before anyone points out Sturridge, he had to move to us before he hit the big time he wouldn't have done it at Chelsea)

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - Ross Barkley?}

Fair point Ed, but I guess he would be the same as Ramsey, one good season does not a legend make.

Most recent one I can think of is Beckham after a year at Preston.

Some United fans might argue Cleverly, but I think we can laugh that off.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - didn't Scholes go out on loan too? I am sure I remember him having a loan move.}

Not that I can remember, but it's Friday and my brain is blancmage by this time of the week.

Agree0 Disagree0

Beckham to Preston?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I am not sure if Matic counts, it was almost like a loan move!}

The trouble with this post is that, not a great many teams loaned out players in the premiership over the last few years. You could easily Argue that Lukaku, will be immense, though he has his detractors on here.
Danny Murphy went on loan to crewe.

Wilshere to Bolton, welbeck to Sunderland, Jermain Defoe & Rio Ferdinand to bournemouth and then there's obviously Courtois and Lukaku but granted there is not many at all

Hi Eds - long time admirer of the site, first time poster. Reading through it appears that the only players we have shown real concrete interest in are Konop, Rojo, Firmino, Bertrand, Parejo and Fischer . With champions league imminent we should be looking to improve our first team as well as the squad and all these players represent squad players who are not any better than what we currently have. Of course they are all young and can improve ( especially Fischer and Firmino who look like future stars ) but surely to keep Suarez et al at the club for many season we will need to make a marquee signing to show them that we are here to stay at the top of the league for years to come ( hopefully). I was wondering who this potential marquee signing may be? Or is the money just simply not there to get a £20-30 million in for next season?

Cheers

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Firmino is no longer an option. I have no idea what constitutes a "marquee" signing and if the only purpose of such a signing is to keep Suarez happy, then the club is pretty pitiful.}

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Mar 2014 12:31:47
Very harsh to say they've let the club down.

Personally I prefer their posts to the people who over praise the team. It's all well and good wanting the team to win, but that doesn't mean you have to blank out all the bad points. The only thing more annoying than somebody who is overly critical, is somebody who is overly positive. If Rodgers didn't acknowledge the negatives we'd still be playing 4-4-2, and be 8th in the league.

We as fans (who essentially pay the wages of everyone at the club with our support) have every right to make our opinions known. Be that a positive or negative opinion. As long as you are prepared to justify your opinion or at least explain it, I personally don't care what side of the fence anybody is sat regarding any aspect of the club (e.g. Gerrard, Owners, Suarez, Rodgers). The only thing that bothers me, is when people refuse to get off their high horse and stop judging people for being more cautious than others and not just seeing everything as all red and rosey. You are not a better fan just because you think Rodgers is the next Bob Paisley, Gerrard is an untouchable god, and Suarez can bite anyone he wants (and vice versa). Nobody has the right to oppress the opinions of anybody else on this site. They can think what they like, and should be able to express it on here without being vilified.

We are supposed to be the most knowledgable fans in the world and that statement is not ever going to be the case if we ignore the negatives at the club and skip through fields of Daisys with our arms linked. You don't change anything by sweeping it under the carpet. Sometimes, I do disagree with Ozone, Waro and Harry. Other times I agree. However I can tell all three of them just want what is best for the club, and that is why they express their concerns on here.

I don't mean to have a go at you mate, just don't want your thread to turn into a big slaughter. I'm trying to diffuse the situation before Ozone and Waro see this. Peace.

Alrite folks,

not quite Liverpool related but I wonder what peoples reaction was to Richard Scudamore's (Premier League Chief Executive) comments about Manchester United:

"When your most popular club isn't doing as well, that costs you interest and audience in some places."

"There are lots of fans around the world who wish Manchester United were winning it again, "

Is this not completely ridiculous for the Chief Executive of the league to suggest? And does this not add a lot of fuel to conspiracy theorists fire who posited that United were on the end of a lot of fortuitous decisions (fergie time, penalties, red cards, etc etc)? How can there be a guarantee of fairness in the league when its Chief Executive makes such comments? Surely this shows there is a vested interest in United doing well by those running the league who could influence referees?

I just though it was shocking and wondered what everyone else's reaction was - I don't have a lot of faith in the impartiality of referees for next season nor a completely random, fair fixture list. All in all very strange, thoughts?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Of course it doesn't.}

28 Mar 2014 13:12:41
The fixtures at the start of next season will be interesting and if they make Europa a change to Thursday Monday matches no doubt.

Agree0 Disagree0

How does it not? This is the Chief Executive of the league saying United doing badly is bad for business. I have managed to deduce from that that United doing well is good for business. Wouldn't the Chief Executive of the Premier League want business to be good? I'm not saying it proves beyond reasonable doubt that United get/have gotten favourable treatment but it certainly doesn't suggest impartiality does it?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - They don't get any favourable treatment. What he said is accurate - Manchester United not doing well does not help the English game as perceived abroad.}

28 Mar 2014 16:27:58
Considering r world wide support base there was no word of us being bad for business when we were right were utd are for 4 years.for me it just shows the importance of a good manager and also a good working relationship right through the club everyone seems to be working for each other on and off the pitch which is something man United seemed to have until purple nose took his last piece of chewing gum, you can also see how spurs level has dropped for similar reasons at the start of the season I for 1 thought we had our work cut out trying to get above both these clubs and champions league football which seems To be guaranteed now anything else for me no pressure is a bonus.

Agree0 Disagree0

If that's the case then is there not a vested interest (from Scudamore's perspective) in United doing well? It just seemed to me to be a very odd thing for the Chief Executive of the Premier League to come out and say, perhaps I'm alone in this assertion.

Agree0 Disagree0

Strange because most of the country apart from United fans will say this is one of the best seasons in a while entertainment wise. If that's bad for business then so be it. Exciting games and a closer title race with different teams will bring more fans in and closer attention to the league in the long run.
Most of the part time United fans from abroad will just follow someone else from next season anyway ;)

Agree0 Disagree0

But as soon as Liverpool destroy teams in the CL all perception of the premier league will be restored with regards to those abroad.
