Sometimes when I remember Ings, I feel like he is a new signing and I get all excited about the new season.

Believable7 Unbelievable3

{Ed007's Note - Just keep plenty of tissues near by and you'll be fine.}

29 Jun 2016 09:05:37
You don't know what's coming this season. A bit of lube should also be on order I suppose. And it would help for both outcomes.

- Krishna.

28 Jun 2016 21:33:05
The general mood seems good tonight, happy about that I'm very pleased with the Mane signing he's exactly what we need real pace and power and very clever at reading the game, looking good πŸ‘ŒπŸΌ.

28 Jun 2016 22:28:29
Any news on Gomez? Is he fit to play part of out first pre season game, only 10 days away?

{Ed091's Note - ST says hes coming along well.

28 Jun 2016 20:33:19
Ed002,

Just want to say have a good trip to Madrid tomorrow! Miss you already πŸ˜€

Crooky.

Believable4 Unbelievable5

{Ed002's Note - I am already in MAdrid Crooky. Spread out and use the whole bed.}

But its just not the same πŸ˜‰.

28 Jun 2016 23:23:07
Something magical is happening here.

29 Jun 2016 00:14:41
Today, on a very special Blossom.

28 Jun 2016 22:13:41
Ed002 at his/ her bestπŸ˜‚.

29 Jun 2016 10:06:39
Straight to the bed without champagne and Sinatra playing in the background? Ordinary, I say :-)

28 Jun 2016 20:43:03
I hope we get to see a lot more of Ojo this year. Looks a really really good talent.

@The Real AG, What's your opinion of him?

Believable7 Unbelievable3

28 Jun 2016 21:35:22
I would try not to build the kid up so much. During his time in the U18s and U21s, he stood out because because of his pace, strength and skill. There is no doubt that he is talented, but over the last few years I have been watching the youth teams, I thought Ibe was the best player to play at that level for Liverpool, and he has now struggled to make the step up.

Adaptability will be the key and there should be less spotlight on him with the likes of Mane, Coutinho, Lallana, Milner and Firmino all in the team. Perhaps we will know more about him by the end of next season.

As for his strengths, acceleration is one of his main assets, he is extremely quick of the mark though I feel he can reach a good top speed, he always seem to back his skill when a defender is catching up to him over his speed (Ibe and Sterling were the opposite) . His passing and crossing (final ball) is better than Ibe's or Sterling's was at this stage (first season in the PL) though his link up play needs a bit of work. Physically, he should be fine settling into the PL as he is clearly well built, and now he needs to learn to use his body pertinently when given the chance.

28 Jun 2016 22:13:24
I really hope Ojo does well AG.

28 Jun 2016 22:23:16
Need give to give him time to develop.

28 Jun 2016 22:29:11
Cheers AG. Apriciate the reply.

28 Jun 2016 22:32:33
Great post AG.

29 Jun 2016 03:17:37
Ibe and Ojo both have everything they need physically to be top players, its the mental side that seperates the ones who step up.

29 Jun 2016 10:30:14
Far too many people on Ibe's back, he is still a kid learning the game, he's had to deal with Rodgers leaving and Klopp coming in, new training methods, coaching styles, etc, etc.
I really do feel that some fans don't help the lad by groaning or criticising the lad when he makes a mistake, we need to get behind the lad and encourage him, not push him towards the door.

28 Jun 2016 20:40:31
Hope nobody went our and got a ManΓ¨ shirt with 29 on the back πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚.

Believable6 Unbelievable1

28 Jun 2016 22:14:53
God bless Tipex.

28 Jun 2016 19:24:46
I think we should sign Will Grigg to help liven up the Anfield atmosphere. To give it our all next season, we need the 12th man.

Who agrees?!

Believable6 Unbelievable7

28 Jun 2016 19:41:54
Is this a joke?

28 Jun 2016 19:59:02
Manes on fire, your defence is terrified cose manes on fire.

Come on its electric when its buzzing around the ground.

28 Jun 2016 20:12:18
It is a joke.

28 Jun 2016 21:37:28
Surely mane's getting a song to ABba's money, money money,

I'll grab my coat on the way out :p.

28 Jun 2016 23:03:40
i would go for pink floyds money.

29 Jun 2016 03:18:51
id go for 'shut the **** up about money'

29 Jun 2016 07:15:51
Ayre apparently rides round on his Harley with Jessie J's 'price tag' song pumping out of his ghetto blaster 😎.

29 Jun 2016 10:40:35
We've just bought, a striker
He's well good, and running
And dribbles past you in most situations
And he'll put the ball in, he's got dedication, and he's scoring everything,
Girls don't like boys, girls like cars and Mane!

28 Jun 2016 18:57:42
having signed a winger in manΓ©, is another winger being targeted? Can't really find anything using the search function? Thanks.

Believable0 Unbelievable6

28 Jun 2016 19:28:03
I keep telling my wife I should marry another just in case a situation arises.

She won't listen.

28 Jun 2016 19:43:07
well presuming Ibe and Markovic leave we will only really have one wide player.

28 Jun 2016 19:43:07
well presuming Ibe and Markovic leave we will only really have one wide player.

28 Jun 2016 20:03:00
Being? Ojo and Kent, aside from Mane?

28 Jun 2016 20:13:22
I don't think we need another winger even if Ibe and Markovic leave. Milner, Coutinho and Lallana as well as Ojo all play a wide role almost all the time for LFC.

28 Jun 2016 22:17:23
Women just don't understand us Zeddicus.

29 Jun 2016 00:16:44
Precisely, Barry.

I keep trying to explain how disappointed I would be if she had a headache on my birthday, and how that is justification enough, but she keeps muttering about wedding vows and an equal and fair division of assets, so I don't know what to think or do now : (

28 Jun 2016 23:33:42
I'd hope we give markovic a chance, I think he would be one player that would improve under klopp. Not sure why I just get the impression klopp would like him. Hopefully he gets the preseason to prove himself. That being said if markovic stays we might see ojo get very limited opportunities. Klopp has a lot to think about this summer in terms of outgoings.

28 Jun 2016 18:54:53
Eds, do you think sturridge and coutinho will be here at the start of next season?

Believable0 Unbelievable2

{Ed002's Note - I am not going to try and answer compound questions.}

28 Jun 2016 19:31:37
Klopp ready send if we get a good offer for a player and the what's to leave they can go.

28 Jun 2016 19:32:37
Eds how do you see sturridge, coutinho linking up with mane next season? More interested in knowing what team you expect to be the main starters and what formation we adopt, now that mane is signed?

{Ed002's Note - I haven't decide how the mighty reds will line up next season yet.}

28 Jun 2016 20:14:17
It's nearly pre-season, you need to hurry up and start being productive with these formations Ed002.

{Ed002's Note - It is liverpool , so the formation (based on attacking midfield is as follows:

11

28 Jun 2016 21:43:10
Amazing πŸ˜‚.

28 Jun 2016 23:19:03
πŸ˜„πŸ˜„πŸ˜„ should be able to break down Chelsea's flat back 9.

28 Jun 2016 16:07:07
Hey eds.
Now that we have secured the services of Mane, is the interest in Gotze over?
Cheers.

Believable0 Unbelievable3

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool are interested in Goetze. He is not keen - as has been done to death.}

28 Jun 2016 14:38:59
Hey eds just wanted to know if we ever had any interest in Ruben Neves of Porto.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - Try searching.}

28 Jun 2016 19:06:07
Just wondering what people think Mane's best position is? I hear him referred to as a striker and a winger, and that shows his versatility but how do we see him being used? It'd be nice to hear from anyone, but also the Eds. Keep up the good work!

Believable1 Unbelievable1

28 Jun 2016 19:10:37
He's a winger.

28 Jun 2016 19:23:17
Probably part of the front 3, they seem to rotate roles during games. Just wondering what the front 3 would be? Sturridge/ Origi with Mane and Firmo? How does Couts fit in? Could be Firmo, Couts and Mane with Origi as sub, but what happens to Studge? Of course rotation of subs and players, and factor in injuries we have plenty to chose from, but not sure how happy some will be with that. I think they count on injuries being the biggest concern following the problems we had last season.
I note I have not answered your question at all actually! Lol Probably made your questions grow! Sorry mate.

28 Jun 2016 19:54:10
Klopp Favours a 4-2-3-1 Varation it seems i'm guessing his Favoured team would Be Below
GK- Karius
LB - Chilwell/ Amavi/ Moreno
CB - Matip
CB - Lovren
RB - Clyne
CM - Can
CM - Henderson
LAM - Couts
CAM - Firmino
RAM/ RW - Mane
ST - Sturrdige/ Origi/ Ings.

{Ed002's Note - Referees are instructed how to spot teams playing three left backs.}

28 Jun 2016 20:15:46
Mane will likely start on the right side of midfield, replacing Lallana/ Milner as a starter in the squad. He can of course play left wing and behind the striker if required.

28 Jun 2016 20:20:06
Ed002, I think you may be overestimating the observations of the average ref. Everyone knows they need glasses, so why not use that to our advantage?!

28 Jun 2016 20:20:56
Also, glad to see you missed the three strikers.

If you missed it, a referee definitely would.

I sense a cunning plan afoot.

28 Jun 2016 18:54:55
Evening all. well, renewed my season ticket after careful thought. not sure we have the talent and players to win the league, but I will follow them once again. my main concern is goal keeper and defence. we need very top players to go for it.

the goal keeper might be sorted with the young kid signed, but we still need cover top players as I feel enough is enough now because 26 years without a league title is going too far now. cheers lfc ynwa. in klopp we trust. please klopp get this team sorted once and for all.

28 Jun 2016 18:42:08
Ed 001 and Ed 001 Who would you personally appoint as the next England manager or is it a case of a manager isn't enough to clean up the mess?

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I am not really interested in England, sorry. If it was me, I would go and get Bielsa though.}

28 Jun 2016 19:07:29
I saw Pellegrini mentioned today and i think if he was interested, then he might be a pretty solid option. Obviously he didn't set the league alight last year but all in all i think he is a much better choice than the Hoddle's and Southgate's that are being mentioned atm.

28 Jun 2016 19:27:55
Firstly, please not Southgate.
Secondly, most of the top managers have been signed up recently.
Finally, Hiddink? Not a bad option at all. Eddie Howe is left field for me as he can make a team, not individuals. Another Ed said they would like Dyche, who has done very well with a near non existent budget.

28 Jun 2016 19:39:36
Sorry Eds,
Just want to clear up my comment about Dyche and budgets. I know England will not be buying players, I mean he takes what he has and makes them work as a team as they may not be individually as gifted as the stars in the game.
I hope that's not too derogatory to Burnley or it's players.

{Ed002's Note - Hiddink is 70 or so and employed by a club - there is absolutely zero chance of England approaching him. England over the last 8 months or so has spoken to a number of people and they have now to follow due process.}

28 Jun 2016 19:47:54
I think Hoddle is or a least was a very good manager. If he could only keep his beliefs to himself.

28 Jun 2016 19:48:37
Thanks Ed002, I missed that one - where will he be next season? Just out of curiosity.

{Ed002's Note - Guus Hiddink works for Chelsea Bazzaa. He has a really, really big task he has been working on to complete, and will continue to cast an eye over and help out with a number of the younger players.}

28 Jun 2016 21:24:03
Good on him for that, thanks Ed002 for the info.

29 Jun 2016 11:14:10
I would look at steve clarke myself, underated manager imo. Not sure about Pellegrini tbh, don't think his style would suit international management or whether he would even be interested. Bielsa is a good shout but isn't be like 85 yrs old or something. 😁.

28 Jun 2016 18:33:46
Ed1 hope you are well mate? You have always liked Mane ability and said he is an exceptional talent, I couldn't agree more with you and think he will be great, but you have quite rightly questioned his attitude, do you believe Klopp can get a grip on him and he will settle down? Also do o you think he will bring the best out in our front three players?

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I think Klopp will do. The style of play Klopp likes should help him perform as well.}

28 Jun 2016 18:23:02
We're clearly after a cm and left back judging by all the reports and eds comments. But now I think we shouldn't sign unless they will be improving our starting 11. A left back should.
A cm, if he's confident in whoever we go for getting lots of game time, then he has to be capable of playing in a midfield two with can. Hendo can do a job there, he's not a world beater, but I like him. Stewart can also play there, I like him there, because he sits in well, and with coutinho mane firmino and one of Ings Sturridge or origi, I'd back us to score more this season than last. That's for me leaves Lucas as cover for there and CB if needed. With the youth we have chiravella who I hope will get some time, and branagan slightly further forward. With no Europe, do we need another? For me, no, unless they are a guarenteed starter. Lallana and ojo can rotate with the 3 behind the striker. Like I said I'd like to see can and Stewart together, adding that bit more physicality and defensive thinking. Lucas is more than capable of coming in, if needed, and there's still Milner and Allen.
Surely they both have to leave for us to consider another?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

28 Jun 2016 18:13:33
Hi Eds, was Mane 2nd choice to Gotze? Thanks.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - unrelated.}

28 Jun 2016 18:42:57
Like Klopp said he was following mane for 4 years.

28 Jun 2016 23:22:30
Sadio was the Mane man 😎.

{Ed091's Note - i cant take mane more of these puns.

28 Jun 2016 15:15:32
I know you probably have better things to do, but I wanted to hear ed001's assessment on Simon Mignolet. I know everyone knows he's rubbish, but I'd like to hear from the Eds about him.
Is there any interest in him at all from any clubs? Or will he most likely stay the season and start the campaign because of Karius' international duties, before leaving next season and being shipped off for a very little amount.
Thanks for the work Eds, this website is much appreciated.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - assessment of his play? Or just the interest?

There has been little interest in him, he signed a new contract and is likely to act as back up to Karius for the season.}

28 Jun 2016 16:21:33
Assessment on his play, what did you take from his displays with us? Thanks mate.

{Ed001's Note - his play? Awful. Positionally suspect. Flaps at crosses. Lets in weak shots. Can't kick. Mostly down to his awful footwork, which is the worst I have ever seen at any level of the game.}

28 Jun 2016 17:04:55
Even at under 8's ed mate? πŸ˜†.

{Ed001's Note - yep, even toddlers have better footwork....}

28 Jun 2016 17:19:11
πŸ˜…πŸ˜‚ lol. Harsh but true i guess. Does he no he will be back up to Karius.

{Ed001's Note - he knows.}

28 Jun 2016 17:36:25
Genuinely laughed out loud at that. A fair assessment.

28 Jun 2016 18:25:17
The best sub goalie we've had in a while though! ;)

28 Jun 2016 18:35:41
Ed,

If Mingolet is aware that he is not first choice, is he agitating for a move or is he happy to fight it out for top spot? Seems strange that the usual first choice would sit back and let someone else come in and take over.
He must have more confidence in his own abilities than most fans, and the manager.

{Ed001's Note - he signed a new contract as he wants to fight for his place.}

28 Jun 2016 18:47:00
The Ed said, I suspect tongue in cheek, that even toddlers have better footwork. but I teach young kindergarten kids in Taiwan and I been watching their P. E sessions where they have started doing soccer - and it's true, they already have better footwork than Mignolet! One of the kids is a proper David De Gea, boss use of his legs - handles like David James though so needs work, to be fair to him he is only 6 years old like so plenty of time! One of the kids is dynamite though, even so young can see he is a natural athlete, excels at every sport he plays including soccer. If I were a scout I'd be recommending him despite him only being 6, he going to be a great sportsman whatever he ends up doing.

28 Jun 2016 18:47:31
Ahhh so karius will start as our number 1? That's hundred percent? Pleased isn't the word. Cheers.

28 Jun 2016 19:08:18
I was one of those watching man city thinking hart could be come available and I hoped we'd be interested. Eds1 has said before he doesn't rate him, I thought he'd be a significant upgrade though. I'm happy to stand corrected, fingers crossed we've got it right with Karius, DDG has shown both internationally and domestically the difference a top keeper makes.

{Ed002's Note - Manchester City are looking to replace him so he may well be available.}

28 Jun 2016 19:12:35
He clearly has the right attitude but surely he hasn't been hiding his light under the bushel so to speak?!

29 Jun 2016 01:52:18
It was previously said that Karius was signed as competition for Mignolet. but now it seems he's been signed as a replacement? Or is the word 'replacement' only valid if Migs is sold?

29 Jun 2016 01:23:39
Ed would a better goalkeeping coach help Mignolet improve his poor points?

{Ed001's Note - should do, but it is not likely to make any major improvements at his age.}

28 Jun 2016 15:37:58
Sadio Mane. Why do I feel we have now replaced not only Raheem Sterling but also Luis Suarez?

Believable6 Unbelievable7

28 Jun 2016 15:45:38
But no pressure on the lad, eh?!

28 Jun 2016 15:48:07
Drugs? Drink? Dreams?
Upgrade on sterling but let's leave Suarez out of this.

28 Jun 2016 16:00:29
Refreshing optimism, or taking the piss? Either way, it gave me a smile. 😎.

28 Jun 2016 16:30:55
Sterling for his attitude and Suarez for his suspensions?

28 Jun 2016 17:07:50
Only way to replace Suarez is to re sign Suarez.

28 Jun 2016 15:07:58
In readiness for next season most contributors talk about new additions to the squad. However the one issue that needs to be addressed is our mental strength. Losing to Seville could be a blessing in disguise. We lost or drew so many games last season after leading at half time that we would easily have finished in top 4. I am sure that Klopp will be working on this and I am very confident with our signings to date that despite Mourinho and Guadiola and their vast resources we will finish above both Mancs.

Believable5 Unbelievable3

28 Jun 2016 19:34:41
Losing to Sevilla only helped us lose out on our main targets and champions league money, certainly not a blessing.

28 Jun 2016 14:24:35
If Boris Johnson is BoJo, does that mean Sadio Mane is SadMan?

Let's hope it's used ironically although this page doesn't get irony or sarcasm very well!

Believable3 Unbelievable5

28 Jun 2016 16:31:44
He's the nearest thing to Sa-ne we're going to get πŸ˜„.

28 Jun 2016 14:16:47
At this stage Southhampton must have a special 'Liverpool Income' section in their annual accounts :-) .

Believable14 Unbelievable3

28 Jun 2016 19:46:19
Its listed as "Fixed Recurring Income" and can therefore be depended upon and borrowed against. Its almost like having cash in the bank!

28 Jun 2016 14:15:47
Do Senegal generally qualify for the African Nations Cup?

Believable5 Unbelievable2

28 Jun 2016 15:57:05
Since 1986 they've qualified for 12 out of 17 tournaments (including 2017).

28 Jun 2016 18:33:50
I saw chilwell and done. Don't need a whole new team every year. With chilwell that is 4 new starters. Sturidge and hendo fit to start the season. That is a strong squad.

28 Jun 2016 13:42:17
Sadio Mane - "I am looking forward to playing with the great players likes like Sturridge, Coutinho, Lallana, Milner".

Well if there is anything positive to take from this it is that Mane believes Coutinho will stay!

Although the bad news is he thinks Milner is a great player, so looks like we took a bit too much blood in the medical and his brain is struggling to function.

Whoops!

Believable15 Unbelievable2

28 Jun 2016 13:53:15
Mk scouser
I can't see how milner plays with the majority fit.

28 Jun 2016 14:05:04
Milner gets far too much of a hard time. I watched nearly every game last season and while he wasn't excellent, he was better than others and had some great games. Moreno was awful for 90% of games and Coutinho was hailed world class although in far too many games he was average.

28 Jun 2016 14:21:17
Milner is poor in his favored position (CM) though. He is OK on the wing and sort of covered for Moreno's useless galavanting up the opposite end of the pitch. He is average though, painfully average.

28 Jun 2016 14:24:35
"milner gets far too much a hard time "
He's the club's highest earner and his performances on the pitch have been nothing short of mediocre. He was one of many bad buys and offers nothing to the team. With the amount of midfielders and attackers I can't imagine for the life of me how he would start. We need to sell players as our squad is far too bloated. He would be towards the top of my list especially given his wages.

28 Jun 2016 14:29:49
Why don't we support our players, rather than trashing them. Milner works hard, and is a solid consistent contributor. 7 goals 14 assists in all competitions. I really don't understand the Milner bashing.

28 Jun 2016 14:42:05
Mana
I'm assuming you don't watch us play live and wait for the final result.
We have quite a few players in our squad who are not good enough to get us in the top six nevermind top4. it is up to klopp to move a few players on and bring in the players that will take us to the required level.

28 Jun 2016 15:26:00
Manahawkin, if you can't tell the difference between "trashing" and light hearted banter, this isn't the page you were looking for!

On a serious note, i don't hate Milner nor do I believe he is awful, I just don't think his name belongs in the same sentence as 'great player'. He is a good squad player, and very professional. He is also our highest earner and vice captain though so forgive me for finding his opening season underwhelming! He needs to up his game to justify his wages.

I've hardly said that he is useless and needs to be released, and we should lynch him etc. I gave him my support when he signed but after nearly 50 appearances, I think I'm entitled to make a judgement now and he just hasn't shown me enough to be considered a 'great player'. You are well within your rights to disagree though buddy.

28 Jun 2016 15:46:35
Ill support any Liverpool player who puts his heart and 100% effort into the game.

28 Jun 2016 16:23:09
I could think of players less deserving of LFC. He seems to give 100% unlike he who can do no wrong.

28 Jun 2016 18:51:10
I was very anti Milner when we signed him but give the lad a break. He had more good games than Coutinho, had a better goals/ assists per game average than said Brazilian and yet Coutinho is almost hailed as a god. Both players have weaknesses and strengths and I do believe he is more a squad player than a first team player but you cannot deny his input last season.

28 Jun 2016 18:29:26
I think Mane has replaced both Milner and Lallana.

28 Jun 2016 19:46:52
SO does that mean we play with 10 men now, Harry?

28 Jun 2016 20:34:24
All in good banter MK. I do think that that Milner gets a harsh run from most the fans on here. I do not think Milner is a player to move on. I will agree that he is not as good in the central mid position, but he's useful on the wing.

28 Jun 2016 13:29:43
So it looks like we're getting Ben Chilwell.
And Hector/ Bertrand, depending on if we want to sell Moreno.

It also looks like we're getting Piotr Zielinkski.
And Kovacic/ Dahoud, depending on if we want to sell Allen and Lucas.

After that I think our transfer window is over from a buying standpoint.

Believable0 Unbelievable7

28 Jun 2016 13:47:01
It looks like we will get Chilwell and Zielinski eventually.

You've just made the rest of it up though.

Dahoud and Kovacic are non-starters, Bertrand is just recycled news, and Hector is a pipe dream.

IF we sign another left back, it is looking likely to be Amavi more than anyone else.

With regards to who else may be considered, I think we may push for Gotze if Firmino or Coutinho were to leave.

28 Jun 2016 23:24:51
Hector Bertrand? Who does he play for?

It's a high price but what has that got to do with us? Klopp wanted him, owners paid the price - now hopefully he does the business on the pitch. Personally I think he will do well.

28 Jun 2016 13:47:45
One off the things I kept saying last season was that we didn't have players running in behind the back line and I'm sure most would agree.

Sadio Mane = Speed and power so what's the problem.

28 Jun 2016 13:02:57
Hi Eds

What's up with Lucas? Will he be staying? (in Klopp's plans) or If we get a suitable offer, the club is open to sale?

We already know that Joe Allen is up for sale and we will be left with Firminiho, Coutinho, Milner, Hendo, Can, Gjuric, Stewart, Ojo with Ibe also open for sale.

There is also rumoured interest in Piotr Z from Udinese.

Cheers,
SamiKewell.

Lucas must surely go considering he is so far down the pecking order, although most interested clubs will balk at his wage demands. Be a decent servant, but never good enough for a team trying to compete for trophies regularly.

28 Jun 2016 13:30:36
Bearing in mind he is experieced cover for Hendo and Can, and can also cover CB if required, I'd be happy if he stayed.

28 Jun 2016 16:31:15
Some folk amaze me? Lucas never let's you down think he'd do anything for the team. Lad must stay not like he's really crap at filling in.

28 Jun 2016 18:28:20
Sakho is the boss, Lucas was the best DM in the league before the damn injury. Just lost his legs after.

Still a very decent and clever player though.

Ed's first time poster after years of following the site. Not sure if this has been asked before or which page this should be on, but do you see an issue in years to come that there will a burst in football regarding transfer fees and wages or do you see it continuing the way it is going? Also do you think this is ruining the quality of the game that we all love?

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - I think the big change will come with the eventual pan European breakaway as the money will follow the big clubs and the sponsorship. There is actaully a meeting being hosted (by an Italian side) in Madrid over the next two days and they will be touching on this subject to some extent.}

{Ed002's Note - At least for the first day tomorrow.}

28 Jun 2016 12:50:45
Ed001. I am excited about the mane signing and think he is a gamble worth taking. He is very pacy and can score goals from the wing. However.

Any chance this gamble will be a replica and 2x (ish) more expensive "gamble" than our last . ahem. gamble that is balotelli? Just looking at the pictures after signing (who doesn't smile when you just signed for Liverpool FC? COMON) and I immediately thought. oh god is this balotelli again?

Believable0 Unbelievable3

{Ed001's Note - I don't think it is anything like as big a gamble as the Balotelli one. Mane is inconsistent, whereas Balotelli was consistently rubbish.}

28 Jun 2016 13:35:47
And Balotelli was clearly not the kind of player to fit our style of play.

Mane on the other hand has an excellent record of turning over possession, working hard off the ball and scoring goals from regular play (not free kicks, penalties or outrageous shots from 30 yards) .

Hello ED01
If you have time could you give me your assessment of Mane please? I have checked search and probably missed same question so apologise up front.

I personally think he is a really good player and will do well for us. i know nothing about his attitude and i do think the price is to high, otherwise very happy if news true.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - he is quick, skilful and strong, with a good delivery, if a little inconsistent. On the pitch he is excellent. One of the better wingers around right now.

The issues are his attitude, he has been known to miss training and team meetings, he also spent most of the winter sulking and underperforming for Southampton after they blocked a move to Man Utd in January.

Also there are the African Nations, which are not as much of a problem now, but still something to consider. On his day though, he is totally unplayable, we just have to trust in Klopp to get the best from him.}

28 Jun 2016 12:07:05
thanks as always my good man.

28 Jun 2016 12:13:47
He needs to really knuckle down and work hard.
He's at a "big" club now so hopefully the sulking is behind him and he turns out to be a world beater.

28 Jun 2016 12:19:08
Edd001 with mane likely coming, who's your front 3/ 4?

{Ed001's Note - depends on the game.}

28 Jun 2016 12:27:30
He's at that club now. 2 years before a move to a Bayern, psg or Madrid becomes a real possibility and the only way to get there is to smash it for us now.

Hopefully this is it for him, we have just purchased one of the best wingers around. pace and power in abundance and that player that terrifies defences. The one who makes them wet there undies.

He will bring coutinho and firmino to life.

Klopps someone who shows constant love so he won't be missing that, he will be allowed to perform and if he does it well he won't know anything like what he will when the crowd sing a mane song.

Onto the next targets get it all wrapped up and start dreaming.

28 Jun 2016 12:14:26
My view, simply overpaid, but brilliant player. Pace, Power and Goals. A gamble which must pay off.

28 Jun 2016 10:43:09
Just been looking through the 2016 Banter Archives and notice there is one for 30th November 2019!

Hi Eds

what is the situation on Brannagan, Stewart, Smith, Ojo and Ibe at the club?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Try the search engine.}

28 Jun 2016 11:40:20
Brannagan, Stewart and ojo should stay in and amongst the first team next season especially with certain players being sold in their respective positions. That's what I want to happen, but I wouldn't totally be against loans for them as I can't see them getting loads of game time next season to help their progression. Brannagan probably is ready for a good loan, and in my opinion has the potential to break through if developed properly.

Stewart is now 22 so he's coming along, so a loan might well signal the end of his time here unless he really impresses on loan which he's more than capable of. I would like him to stay but we have a packed out midfield with hendo, can, grujic, zielinski, Milner, Lucas so I don't know what will happen with him unfortunately. Ojo will most likely stay depending on the situation with markovic, I don't think we will be going in for another forward unless coutinho or firmino where to leave so if markovic was to be sold (I'd like to see him given chances as I think he would be great under klopp) then ojo will most certainly stay and get decent opportunities with ibe on his way out.

Smith and ibe will probably leave to some capacity, either loan or sold.

That is what I think will happen, not.

Hey Eds, i was just wanting to know if you have any recent insight into our Midfield players that are more likely to move on. Milner, Allen, Henderson, Can, Lucas, Stewart and Grujic. 7 players to be fighting for what looks to be 2 spots next season. And the fact that we seem to really want another young CM in Zeilinski, there must be 3-5 players from that group having to move on surely.?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Nothing has changed.}

28 Jun 2016 11:45:56
I really like zeilinski. I think he would be excellent in our midfield. he's a player i truly hope we get. I expect a few outs in our midfield area.

28 Jun 2016 06:31:51
Is Klopp likely to use Mane as a striker like he did with Aubameyang or out wide?

Believable0 Unbelievable6

28 Jun 2016 06:48:05
Mane will play on the right wing. The likes of Sturridge and Origi are more similar players to Auba, so why would Klopp waste his time trying to convert Mane when Sturridge and Origi are more than capable of doing what Auba does for BVB?

28 Jun 2016 07:16:44
Out wide I expect, with Origi, Sturridge and Ings we don't lack options upfront but in Llalana, Milner we lack goals and pace out from out wide.

28 Jun 2016 07:26:28
Aubameyang played wide for the first twonyears before he moveved to the centre. This move was made because Ciro Immobile, Lewandowski's replacement, flopped as a striker and no one else could play there. I don't see Mane playing there because unlkke BVB, we actually have capable strikers he can play with.

28 Jun 2016 11:23:10
We are not Dortmund. So maybe he may do something specific to Liverpool?

28 Jun 2016 06:27:57
Question for the eds: Do the FA or whoever takes decisions, actually want theEngland team to succeed. Because if they did why would you appoint and persist with Roy Hodgson. I still can't believe he brought in Wilshire to try and turn the game.

Now they will come up with some more rules like the previous homegrown players rule.

Believable4 Unbelievable2

{Ed001's Note - no idea what the FA are thinking, nor do I care to be perfectly honest. Club over country every time.}

28 Jun 2016 06:49:29
So true Ed001. I am just happy Sturridge comes back for pre season unscathed. England's national team can go f**k them selves, not relevant anymore than just a joke.

28 Jun 2016 07:48:04
Italy vs Spain was a beauty.

Italy deserved winners and Spain deserving losers.

When will the Spanish players stop this acting? Think it's part of their DNA and they are as skilled in acting as they are with their ball playing skills.

Good decision to not watch England match at 12:00 or 12:30 am. Got a good night sleep.

Cheers.

28 Jun 2016 08:51:04
yep, love LFC, couldn't care too much about England and the excuses over so many years. fact is we are not good enough and not all managers fault, although been blaming the last stream of managers for everything. Also what is Hoddle talking about!

28 Jun 2016 09:55:58
I try to care but found myself just laughing last night. However if the FA appoint Southgate it once again highlights their utter incompetence. Hopefully they go for Pochettino and aid the national team whilst shooting down the threat of Spurs.

28 Jun 2016 06:09:30
Hers an interesting stat which might go someway to explaining why England fail to achieve results at an international level.

According to Uefa, Germany has 28,400 (England 1,759) coaches with the B licence, 5,500 (895) with the A licence and 1,070 (115) with the Pro licence, the highest qualification. They also have a talent identification programme which covers most of Germany aimed at 8-14yo who are trained by qualified coaches (who are also expected to do scouting) . The kids attend weekly training sessions with the programme but play for their local clubs on the weekend. In other words Germany have set out to try and make sure they capture every player in Germany and make sure they get as good a coaching as possible.
Whereas I understand in England this is the responsibility of each individual club.

Believable5 Unbelievable2

28 Jun 2016 07:22:32
What about Iceland? How many coaches have they got πŸ˜„.

28 Jun 2016 07:34:00
France in the past, Spain and now Belgium and Germany have figured out the way forward is to revamp their whole youth systm from the grassroots up. EWe have seen the results. England is still there groping in the dark and still think the PL is the best thing since sliced bread while they are being left in the dust by these other countries and well, even Iceland. No oe should be surprised with with how pathetic England as a fot ball nation, not power, has become.

{Ed001's Note - it is up to the English FA to work in partnership with the clubs, instead of constantly battling against them, to create the best youth system possible to give the country hope of success.}

28 Jun 2016 09:02:36
Ed001 I agree. In Germany, the clubs and the League are on the whole primarily fixed on producing the best homegrown players they can for the good of the national team. The League's attitude is that if they can find and produce good players for the clubs, the clubs will in turn mould them into players good enough to play for Germany. can't say that England have that sort of long term focus.

28 Jun 2016 05:51:40
Does any one agree with me that Woy playing Rooney in CM was a similar mistake to the one Klopp has made in playing Milner at CM repeatedly?
Both players are headless chickens with no real understanding of the game. Look s lost and embarrassed in midfield.

Believable5 Unbelievable10

28 Jun 2016 07:47:12
No, IMO. Rooney hasn't had a good international tournament since Euro 2004 and hasn't had a good season in 5 years while unlike Woy who had better midfielder like Hendo to choose from, Klopp had to play Milner in midfield due to injuries and absences because when all were fit, Milner played wide. Woy was stupid to have taken off form players like Rooney and Wilshere who are poor players and were off form due to blind lotalty. The comparison with Klopp is non existent.

28 Jun 2016 08:03:56
I was not criticizing Klopp. Just saying that Rooney is just like Milner in CM, all huff and puff but brain dead when it comes to understanding what actually is a CM's role in the team. Of course Klopp did not have much of a choice, so that is not on him completely but he could have played Lucas with Can in midfield.

28 Jun 2016 11:55:08
Id take Milner over Rooney any day.

28 Jun 2016 05:31:41

At least, the England team has shown great solidarity with the Brexiters by exiting the Euros.

Believable9 Unbelievable1

28 Jun 2016 01:10:31
My theory is we were asked to throw the game after the impact of brexit they didn't want to risk us going and beating France and possibly germsnt before reaching the final especially when wr have negotiations with these countries coming in the very near future.

Excuse me but its all I can find to explain what happened.

At least we played ok the past few games and looked like being able to build up to something once we through tonight's but for it to all crumble like this is practically unbelievable.

I get hogdson is inept at a lot of things but the team was still doing good up to tonight and well at least there all back abit earlier for preseason.

Believable0 Unbelievable4

28 Jun 2016 05:40:21
We looked good when we played twin strikers to accommodate Vardy/ Sturridge vs Wales and/ or when Llalana was there to add the energy and movement we lacked last night.

Against Iceland however we played an out of form Sterling or two strikers on the wings, a poor Kane upfront, and then relied on Rooney (decent but not a world class midfielder) and Alli (talented but hardly setting the tournament alight) or Wiltshire (just crap) to provide the killer touch.

We would have been far more dangerous with Dier, Hendo and Llalana in midfield, Rooney free to roam at no.10 and Vardy/ Sturridge upfront.

To be fair Iceland played well but we helped through the tactical equivalent of 'hit and hope'.

28 Jun 2016 06:53:19
It's not really unbelievable though is it. Considering we couldn't beat Russia or Slovakia and Iceland performed well above them in their group so this was arguably the harder match. England failing to even remotely do well in a competition is no suprise anymore, it's just embarrassing.

28 Jun 2016 07:46:34
It is kman because we looked an alright lttle unit in them games just missing that little xfactor.

It wasnt just us good in possession our winning it back and starting new attacks was good. I just don't believe how we went to something like a team to 11 players picking there bums ready for the carribbean.

On another not Kane is dog poo. Like utter poo. He has poch and that entire system built around him at spurs, take him out and wow he's bad. YOU can't TAKE FREE KICKS HARRY, YOUR NOT GARRY.

No hendo and lallana cost us aswel.

28 Jun 2016 07:55:29
I love the enthusiasm but I knew after drawing to bottom feeders Russia in the opening game with apoor performance, I knew this team would get nowhere. Woy is incompetent and should never have been kept after the World Cup disaster. Then, he picks off form plsyers like Rooney and worst of all, Wilshere. Then he plays good strikers like Vardy and Studge out of position to accommodate a hapless Kane. I can keep going. Bottom line is that until England stops playing over the hill big names like Rooney and Wilshere, revamp its football structure from the grassroots like France, Germany, Spain and Belgium have done with the results that we now see on the pitch, they will continue to churn out disasters like the last WC and the Euros.

{Ed001's Note - why do people keep slagging off Kane? He has shown he is a quality striker, if used correctly. The problem was Hodgson, he got it all wrong, not quite to the degree he did with us, but not far off. Hodgson does not know how to work with quality players, he just knows how to get the most from average ones. That is why he loves Wilshere. Average at best.}

28 Jun 2016 08:59:13
Got to kindly disagree there Ed001. Tottenham do well in spite of Kane in my opinion, not because of him.

In Alli, Eriksen and Lamela/ Chadli they had an unbelievable attacking trio who could just give Kane chance after chance. Dembele linking the midfield to the attack was also a massive help, plus they played with flying full backs. The whole team was set up around creating chances for a focal striker; Kane.

In Vertonghen, Dier and Alderweireld they had essentially a back 3 which leaked relatively nothing allowing the other 7 outfield players constant freedom. All Kane had to do was stand and wait for the ball, then shoot 5-10 times a game until one went in.

It is no surprise to me at all that Spurs are after a new striker. Kane just isn't the required quality. In technically gifted teams he sticks out like a sore thumb. I will concede he has unbelievable confidence. No matter how bad his last shot was, he still has another crack.

Appreciate your opinion though so I'm keen to understand what qualities you see in him? The only thing I like about him is his desire to succeed which is reflected in his effort on the training ground. You've got a few years experience on me though ;)

{Ed001's Note - he still has to put them away, that is something not everyone can do, which is why top strikers command the most money. By the way, you really need to watch him more, he has good movement, good technique and works incredibly hard. Put him right up top and give him the chance and he normally hits the target, which is a very difficult skill. You are talking down his unbelievable confidence, despite that being crucial for a striker.}

28 Jun 2016 10:45:24
I think his striking technique is good. But his overall control of the ball is lacking for me. It tends to bounce off him or just skip away from him far too often.

He also needs to get his head up more. His confidence as you say is a good thing, but it tends to make him greedy. Time after time he shoots when there was a better option, and that is reflected by the amount of shots he has that get blocked. He needs to understand that he lacks the burst of pace to make room for a shot in every scenario.

For his age, there is no denying he is at a good level. But he is dubbed by many as this world class forward and I just don't see it yet.

Benteke is proven to score 20 goals a season if you put him up front for 40 games. The same with Lukaku. But for me all 3 of them have very poor overall games right now, despite scoring a lot of goals. Kane has the best shooting technique, Lukaku is the best athletically, and Benteke is kind of in between with okay technique and okay pace. All will grab goals, but they're all lacking in certain areas of their game.

His work rate is good, I agree. I mentioned That in my original reply that his desire is impressive. I think he has the right mentality. His decision making and composure during build up play are lacking though if you ask me.

Maybe in a few years he will be the top player everyone already thinks he is, but I think he is yet another profiter of the British player hyperbole, when in fact he isn't on the same level as an Aguero or a Lewandowski. Despite more than matching their goal tallies.

Thanks for your opinion though. It's always valued and you do make a good point about him hitting the target very frequently and still needing to bury the chances he gets.

28 Jun 2016 11:40:53
Lallana doesn't add anything to the team. England don't have genuine world class wide players / Wingers, Nor they are blessed with Brilliant playmakers. Hence you play players and except them to do some magic.

28 Jun 2016 01:08:10
Good for LFC. The English players get a early Kloppo pre season as reward for returning early.

Believable7 Unbelievable1

28 Jun 2016 05:34:14
Well said. The English national team is an embarrassment . Who cares about them anyways? The fans certainly don't, at least not like the way they do about their clubs so screw it.
I'm just happy our English players (especially Sturridge) are back unscathed, and Woy could not do any more damage to them.

28 Jun 2016 08:21:20
Maybe if England weren't so high in the rankings you guys would understand the grinding of tough qualifying groups. Not saying it would be the answer but strolling through the qualifying phase is hardly preparing you for a tournament. I'd imagine a tough group with say, Holland and Poland would help and certainly make the formalities of qualifying far more an exciting period.
