Christ almighty folks, have you ANY idea what the term "Support" actually means? Unfortunately it seems, for a significant amount of you, the concept is completely alien to you. I am a life long Liverpool "Supporter" ...that means supporting my club through the good times and the bad. We, WE, the institution that is, Liverpool Football Club are at a transition stage where our new manager is moalding the team for the future, in order to be a force once again. It's us, the fans, the supporters, the parents that take their kids to Anfield for the first time, to let them soak up the best atmosphere in WORLD football, for them to grow up and take their kids, and so on. Forget about this myth that alleged bad managers or bad owners are killing our club, ...it's lack of loyalty that will make or break Liverpool, as, without it's "Supporters" ...it's nothing, it might aswell be a plastic club, a "Thing" thats just an interest to you during BIG games or when BIG managers or BIG players get signed, a THING thats bought and paid for, like a Chelsea or a Man City. I for one, will ALWAYS "SUPPORT" (MY) club, LIVERPOOL FC, they will NEVER walk alone, nor shall I...

Stevie.

Well said Stevie. My favourite post of the day! Full of passion for this club

gareth

How long does a transitional period last and just because you are a lifer for LFC does that mean we cant voice an opinion one way or the other? You are not alone i that you have your opinion, right or wrong same as all of us

Well said mate! I couldn't agree more.

How on gods earth can any true fan disagree with that post if you did shame and go and support the latest club bought by plastic money with plastic flags

Chris r

Mate we need another 50,000 of you,top man, top statment,

martin p

I for one wouldnt want my kids growing up to think that Charlie Adam and Stuart Downing are footballers! Take a chill pill Stevie who wouldnt want their club to spend big on players if FSG bankrolled Munian, Ramires, Guitan, etc would you complain? Maybe you would but the point im making is its only natural to want what you cant have i.e your neighbours wife, doing your mrs up the wrong hole etc...Miami_Red

The 'disagrees' show that other teams fans love the Liverpool page too. Bless them

Since 2009 Liverpool have dropped from a massive club to the next rung - along with the likes of spurs.

The new owners will do little to change this. City and Chelsea with their spending power are in a league of their own whilst United and Arsenal are on a different level when it comes to attracting players.

Now seems like QPR are now stepping it up on a financial level.

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't supporting a club also mean wanting what's best for it?

Sometimes that involves questioning what's going on. I Personnally believe these owners will drag us into obscurity and sell up as soon as a profit is available.

How long does a transitional period last? More than three pre season games mate ha! I'd say about 20 games the team should be getting the managers way

Just wondering how they would make a profit if they dragged us into obscurity? Doesnt make sense, if they want to make a profit surely we would have to improve?

I have been reading this great site for some time now and finally wish to chuck my two penneth in for comment.

BR is not big enough for LFC. I watched them tonight against Spurs and what I saw was the same as I have seen for nearly 3 years. Same boring old story. I know he has not been in long enough to make any substancial changes and currently he is simply learning his squad but and its a big but how can he change the type of players we have including Gerra and Carra. These two names themselves are bigger than his.

Last season, King Kenny tried and failed. So LFC needs bigger than Kenny. BR bigger thn Kenny? NOT. It was a shame for Kenny, had his goal tally been enhanced by the removal of crossbars and posts, perhaps 3rd position was more realistic....what was it 20+ times over the season? BAD luck or bad finishing, not bad play.

Which leads me to ask...how much does BR need to change it? Had the 20+ posts and crossbars gone in, Kenny would still be in charge, more funds would be available and better players would be attracted.

Now BR with his "long term plan" seems to think this needs changing and I don't. I think it needs developing and quite honestly Borini is not development its a health hazzard. Does long term plan mean give me a chance?

My prediction for BRs first year.

After 6 games, bottom 6
Mid season Bottom 12 and 16 points behind fourth spot.
End of season 10th at best.

Fans like you are an embarressment to Liverpool, BR has bought ONE player has only had THREE friendly games to implement a system he himself says could take many months before it comes together and you have already judged him unfit and a failure.....is this what Liverpool fans have become? Discusting!

MR EM

We hit the woodwork 33 times, I think.

I didn't want Kenny out either, that being one of th reasons, but you're writing off Rodgers based on absolutely nothing concrete.

He came up with a 180 page dossier. We don't actually know for sure what's in it, though, do we? We know that he makes an argument in there about use of the ball etc. etc. and that's about it. Half of it could be stuff like youth development. So the existence of said dossier doesn't mean he's planning to completely change everything about the club and how we play. Actually, I'm kind of getting sick of people making this big issue out of how our football will be really different under Rodgers than under Kenny, either putting a positive or negative spin on it, as if there's going to be this huge culture shock to the club.

It's nonsense, imo.

We didn't exactly play hoofball under Kenny, did we? We were playing a short passing game most of the time, not far removed from how Rodgers wants to play. The only departure is that Rodgers is more set on using 433 (Kenny changed between that and 442) and he seemingly wants rid of Carroll. Now I like Carroll, but if I'm being objective about it, he's not actually been that good. So it's hardly a cardinal sin to think about moving him on, is it?

And Rodgers even said himself that Kenny was unlucky with the finishing last year and that he doesn't need to make huge changes to the squad.

I think less will change than people say. But hopefully one of the things that will change is the ball being put in the net and we'll end up 4th or 5th this year.

If you are going to be such a negative ar5e at least have the common decency to tag your post so that at the end of the season a can respond and go looser

Chris r

I think you missed the point "it will not happen overnight" he's setting his stone. We played the game with practically the reserve team most of the game. A lot of the players have just come back from international duty and holiday so expect the lag in the football! Give the man a chance. 1 season is not enough time never mind 3 games? And these 3 games nobody cares about. Seriously why are you a fan? You expecting everything to happen the next morning. It's a work in progress

10th at best? I do not think we will win and may well miss top 4 but 10th? I doubt we will do that badly at all, even if we don't sign anyone else.

I do not agree with you but value your opinion. However, the one thing i do not understand fully is this idea of a BIG name?

I know what you mean but how does someone become a big name? Most BIG NAME managers were lucky enough to take control of a great side in Italy, Spain or England etc but they all started somewhere and with maybe exception of one or two managers in the world, there is just no guarantee we would do any better with a so called big name manager.

Everyone raves on about Rafa, but he hasn's been fantastic for all other clubs, and was good for us but not incredible!
Nor were most. Most GREAT managers have ups and downs but also many of the so called Top names took control of clubs that made them look great.

I couldn't run a football team, but with some knowledge etc etc, lots of people could take on barce, real madrid, man city and do well! AVB at chelsea was a little strange granted.

Anyway, many will disagree with me but i think we all tend to put managers on a pedastal and weigh them up in terms of achievement but maybe we should also consider what they had to work with (Martinez-wigan, Rodgers-Swansea, Hodgson-with 1-2 teams, Moyes-Everton) in terms of available cash and players they have to use.

For me those guys should get as much if not more resect and admiration than some swave looking serious faced italian manager who is just play acting and may look good when it turns out well (cappelo!)

Gareth

For such a confident post you should least have the balls to leave a name.

3 friendly games doesn't mean anything. The vast majority of the squad weren't available for these games.

Once everyone is back in training and we can add a couple of players to the squad we'll have a much more competitive group of players.

All of this negativity is pissing me off.

Joe

Shut up?

Benny baller

When was the last time u forgot to sign ur post?

LiverBird

You are a joke.

Kk was poor. Not bcoz the woodwork n crossbar. But bcoz his confused taktics. No one in the team was sure what he wanted. There was no logic. No role defined. No regular formation. Thats what cost us.

Compaired to that now we have a game plan. Playes for sure would come in. He is a right man with right plan. It just the execution is required. That is what the playes have to do on the field. The positives are already their.

And abt you seeing nothing new in compaired to last yr. Is it self an answer to your question. These are friendlys with players lacking fitness. The only give 50% of what they hav.see what happen with bale last night. player are in these matches only to get match fitness. And not a hard faught football. And with so many changes what you expect. That we should have thrashed roma n spuds 3-0 and 4 -0 respectively?. we are new man with a new sets of tactics with players like borini, dampsay or even walcott we surely gonna improve .

What sort of fan you are. No you must be a iritating spud. Who is predicting us in bottom 6. Even be4 the season is started? You are shame as a fan to who ever you support.

Might I then 'retort', that at seasons end you will no longer be a LFC fan!.

*Insert overly critical comment about LFC and throw rattle out pram. Ignoring the fact that pre-season is just an exercise for the manager to get to grips with what he has to deal with, our squad is not there in its entirety, key players have had little time to train and it is a new system and manager. That Borini is awful, he was on the worst pitch in the world and did not score six goals in 40 mins. Get rid.
DaveyLiver.

I know from where its coming from. There is an a rticle abt RB talking more talking solid. And abt his 180 pages. Sic negative minded guys are reading too much in the lines. As if RB is just talk no show. It was not his talking that gave the newbees swansea a top 10 finish.
Its been just 3 friendly matches. And you guys are against him? What did you expect us to thrash roma, spuds 3-0. ? Overnight we turn in to something called barcelona? Us singnig the likes of villa, hezard, nymar and who ever there on the top? You should get a grip n get real.

Rumours of Aquilani leaving for Fiorentina. 7million reported as signing fee.

Hickin' hope so !

28 Jul 2012 22:26:24
There are some tarts on here. It's a pre-season game with kids. I suggest you find a big-spending team with star players and jump on that team band-wagon (as many of you probably once did with our great club). The words plastic and fickle come to mind.

Joke.

DaveyBootle

The annoying thing is, when we're doing well and winning games, they'll be the first people on here spurting how much they love this club and what good fans they are!

i hope brendan sees that we need wingers after them matches,we need a creative player joe allen could be the answer then we need 2 wingers who are full of running the thing is i cant think of many

The obsession with wingers isn't viable. Carrol will leave. Welcome to the new Liverpool.

Evening guys, eds.

i didnt realise the game was on that early! compared to the last one at 11.30pm! So i accidently missed it.

Could anyone with a good eye tell me how we performed ? any stand outs? shelvey build on his great performance on wednesday? aqua, cole, sterling?

Please no debby downers, just someone with a open mind and open judgment.

Benny baller

Shelvey was outstanding once again, looks like a future star. Sterling came on and looked good too even the commentators kept saying how when he got the ball he looked as if he would produce something for Liverpool. Aqua didnt play this game and cole looked like he has something to offer this year, may still make an impact on the squad. Another stand out performance was from Morgan, he was making runs and finding pockets in the defense he could exploit.

Jonjo. looking more assertive and confident allowing his natural ability to shine. Hope he does not go on loan. Improving steadily.

Sterling less time on the ball but was definite a worry for the spurs defence as proven when the left back reversed DDT'd him to the ground.

Henderson. Hounded tirelessly and picked a few choice passes.

Borini. Worked hard and enthusiastically had one shot to my recollection, got himself in a good position from a cross, caught on the half volley, did the hard part by keeping it down but crucially went way wide.

Enrique looked more assured and solid, not much going forward.

Sama looks one hell of a prospect, no BS left back built like a brick sh*t-house that spurs barly touched all the time he was on the pitch.

They are my stand out opinions for the players. As a whole, we looked much better passing out of the defence and keeping the ball even though we struggled to create loads of chances, but I would argue we were the better team. More chance and shots on target. BRs management was perfect in my opinion, balancing new arrivals playing time well and giving players who played well last two fixtures, more time to press on and impress. I think it will be difficult to get in the top four this season, but not impossible but we need to give him a chance. I was dubious about him at first but I have grown to respect him very much so. His honesty is to be commended and his media exposure is a joy to watch. Hopefully he can be successful on the pitch too.
DaveyLiver

The game was pretty boring, infact an ideal pre season game. Lucas got more time and the return of Stevie and the crew as well as a slight glimpse at Borini.

The best chances of the game were from a marauding Skrtle, yes the CB, and also a failed chip by Gallas.

All in all a decent game in which we dominated possession, no Aquilani but Shelvey played well again as did Sama, Robbo, Hendo and Downing.

Hope this helps

Ben

The shape was retained for much of the game , the match was somewhat competitive but there was little excitement in truth .

Skrtel looked strong again and many people were impressed with his replacement Sama .

Borini's debut passed without goal mouth incident and Lucas made another 30 minute appearance .

That was all I took from the game in all honesty . Oh and Adam Morgan started the game which I thought indicated some confidence in the young striker , but who knows .

EdWood

3 agrees but no reviews :p
what we agreeing with guys?! lol

I read other posts but everyone seems to look at the down sides. I wanted a glass half full, you know the positives from the game, oh well :/

Bring on euro league, wont miss that game!

Benny baller

Absolute highlight was Skrtel's 60 yard attack and shot.
Cracking!, I loved it.
Shankly's Red Army.

Skrtel was probably the best performer on the day overall. To be honest, we were quite poor in the first half.

The midfield three of Spearing, Jonjo, and Adam couldn't retain possession and didn't impose any sort of control into the play. I am usually not overly critical of Adam, but he was pretty poor today. Jonjo was alright, but not up to the quality of his showing in Boston. Spearing made a few good challenges, but his distribution was indecisive.

In defense, Carra did decently well, and aside from a few mistakes, was generally solid. Like I said before, Skrtel was very good. Enrique was perhaps a little better than he has been, but also had a terrible mistake that almost led to a goal for Lennon. He still needs to get much, much better for me to be confident in him being our first choice left back. Flanagan on the right did alright as well. Like always, he didn't back down from any challenge, but his distribution forward and generally link up play with midfield was not great.

In attack, I thought Downing was decent, but again really didn't provide too much. He had a few decent crosses and his touch seemed good enough, but didn't really deliver much more. Cole wasn't great to be honest. I thought that he received some undeserved criticism for his performance against Toronto, and thought he was quite good against Roma, but tonight he did little to convince me that he will be a first choice. I still think that he can be more effective in midfield. Morgan ran and ran and ran and got in a few decent positions, but thats about it.

In the second half, I thought we were much, much better. In midfield, Lucas, Gerrard, and Hendo bossed play and we seemed in control of the game. Hendo was tidy and decisive, Gerrard was his usual commanding self, and Lucas showed again that he is unarguably the first choice deep lying midfielder.

In defense, I thought young Jack Robinson played quite well. He was willing and able, and got forward quite well. Wilson and Sama played well enough, I thought, without really standing out, which is good enough for a defender. Wisdom out right didn't do too much wrong.

In attack, I actually thought Eccleston came out with good attacking intent and showed that he wanted to impress. His movement was good and his confidence seemed high. Didn't really have much end product with his good work, but it was at least promising. Sterling I thought played quite well. Sterling is one that I think has received a bit too much praise recently to be honest. I thought he was decent enough against Roma, but tended to hold on to the ball for far too long and didn't really involve his teammates into his play. Tonight, I thought he made a few good runs and also got involved well with midfield. Out left, Borini showed a few glimpses, but honestly didn't do too much tonight. I would like to see Borini used in a central role, or on the right flank, rather than the left which he was used tonight. I think that when he is played on the left, his lack of technical ability is more glaring as he tends to drift inside, whereas on the right, he can use his athleticism and work rate to take on defenders. That said, it was just the first appearance, and I wouldn't look too much into it. Andy came on with 20 minutes left and was largely ineffective. He gave the ball away a few times, but also had a couple decent touches, but that's about it.

One thing that I feels strongly about is that our keepers are in dire need of kicking practice.

Brian from Birmingham

You'd have thought our reserves had lost 10-0 the way people are reacting. If you can't have a sense of proportion don't watch these WARM UP games. They are no indicator of how the season will pan out.

Wall to wall coverage and Internet forums just raise people's stress levels. Chill.

I think it is really positive that Brendan and the coaching team are picking out weak elements of the squad and hopefully replacing them with better quality.

It is something Kenny tried to do however he inherited an 'average' squad so the players he brought in came under scrutiny.

However, Brendan is his own person and we should respect all decisions he makes and if selling Andy Carroll and re-investing that money in the squad is what he wants to do, so be it.

Dempsey and Allen will be great additions to the squad and with some movement out of the club, one would hope we bring in some of the names we have been linked with, South Americans and what not.

We are clearly playing better football under Rodgers who evidently will give everyone a fighting chance, so the likes of Sterling, Suso, Morgan, Wisdom and Sama will gain valuable 1st team experience.

In my personal opinion I would like to see Spearing, Adam, Pacheco, Joe Cole and Andy Carroll leave the club. As good as they could become or in some cases, as good as they were, they are not good enough for a club who is capable of better things.

With Suarez, Bellamy and Coates back with the squad, we look a lot stronger and I think we should keep Aquilani as he has undoubted quality which we can utilise in cup competitions and from the bench in the league.

Our aim has not changed, we will go out to get 4th place, and win all cup competitions. Brendan has implemented his style, it has had a huge positive effect so far, we just like the attacking edge that other top 4 teams have.

Players such as Gaston Ramirez can provide that much needed link!

Finally, we have a tough start to the season but if we get off to a good start and pick points up, our football will become more fluid, our form will improve and obviously morale will be high.

I totally agree with the Captain, we will get 4th this year, we just have to be much more clinical in front of goal!

LFC_7

Great post mate. Well thought out and not a million miles from my own views.
ANFIELDPETE

Really good post LFC_7

Agree with everything you've got to say - except for one or two things...

You say we are "clearly playing better football under Rodgers" but I have to disagree!

For one, we've only played 3 friendly games under his management. Results don't matter in friendlies.

Secondly, we played some fantastic football last season! (please don't criticise our league position and put that down to performance alone).

I read a stat today that said if we had the same chance conversion rate as Man Utd (sorry) we would have scored 98 goals.

Joe

The games have been great 'exposure' for the young lads.
Thoroughly enjoyed it.
Baltimore pitch was pretty bad.
Nuff said.

Agreed. Another thing about last year - we did play some great stuff, our finishing was sometimes poor/sometimes unlucky and we dominated in 90% of the games we played. But what says more to me is that we did well in the cups and against the 'bigger' teams. So why could Kenny not get the boys up for the home games against Norwich, QPR, Swansea, Fulham, Sunderland etc etc? We had a big big confidence problem and also a problem with motivation. Unfortunately, from reading many of these posts, the lack of confidence comes from within. Do you think the young boys and new signings are immune to this crap? Anfield used to be a fortress, now home 'advantage' works against us! Wise up lads and support yer team. We are Liverpool. Feck the begrudgers, they are only jealous!

Hi Eds and Fellow red fans. Just wondering what your thoughts were on the young kid Sama? My opinion was that he was very solid played very well. Lets hope BR can intergrate him into the first team over a period of time because I believe he will be an outstanding player. YNWA

I agree Sama is well suited for this system. He is big and strong first of all, fast, very good dribbling ability as well as agility and also excellent ball distribution. For only 18-19 what a confident player, he is very comfortable and knows how to use his abilities well.

Looks a great prospect, quick as well, good technique.
Nuff said.

For all the people moaning about our pre season tour and how we did not win any games, that is not the point of pre season. the point is to gain fitness and for the new manager to get his new ideas across to the team. the only games that matter are the league and cup games not friendlys. tonight we played a lot of youngsters so ofcourse they were not going to be world class people just need to chill out n wait untill the season starts before jumping to conclusions

Here's my 2p worth.

Brendon is a clever man, he studies football and I can see that he is trying to put his stamp in the team. He has installed the "get the ball back" within 5 passes. He is allowing the younger players and outcasts the chance to impress him and show they deserve to be there.

I am still yet to hear him come out in the press arena and state that he does not like Andy Carroll or wants him to leave. The press have pushed that part. I for one like always will give the manager his chance and Brendon is very connected in the world of football amongst its top managers. I don't think that he will accept the big player ego, much like Rafa and anyone that does not like his system can leave. I fully understand that what he has said in the press is that the club will listen to offers are any player, he has the balls to say it as ALL players gave a price.

Personnally I would like to see Dempsey come in as he is technically good going forward and offers goals. Allen is one for the future, and between him, Henderson, Lucas and Jonjo we have a great centre midfield for when Gerrard hangs up his boots.

Players I would like to see come in other than already mentioned, Butland, sinclair and sturridge. So all in all a total in spend around 45 million on top of Borini money.

Players to leave I would like to see go, Adam, downing, aqua, spearing and eccleston. I think we could recoup 22million back so a total spend of 32million.

Players on loan should Morgan, coady, sterling and sama to gain experience.

All in all I think that would give us a younger, hungry squad to build on further seasons with champs leg back on the agenda.

Barry

Agree with you about most things you say. Not sure i want Sinclair myself and morgan...you may be right but i think he should stay and get some playing time, but if he won't get much of it then a loan would be good for him. I do think we should keep him close to our chests though as he looks like a possible liverpool star in the making. How old is he actually?

Most of you guys posting are clueless persons. We could name a starting 11 of top players who aren't even playing or have only had half an hour tonight! Our best 11 IMO would be reina Johnson agger skrtel Enrique Lucas gerrard bellemy downing Suarez Carroll. 4 of that team haven't played at all 3 have played half an hour in 1 game and never have we had them 7 playing all at once. It's pre season where we are playing friendlys in 35 degree heat, Roma have played 5x Toronto are in their season and spurs have played 4/5x also. Grow up, gather your thoughts and come on tomorrow when the iron isn't hot and you'll agree. Also we have been making wholesale changes to the team and playing in a different style and playing kids-(talented kids it must be said) your thoughts are welcome if you disagree your wrong though.

Wholesale changes? are you on drugs?

28 Jul 2012 22:58:25
did we ever sign that Marco Bueno?

28 Jul 2012 22:57:28
People keep forgetting with this pre season we have had players like Gerrard, Agger, Enrique, Shelvey, Lucas, Skrtle etc etc playing in different halves and not playing together, that is the point of pre season, giving the young lads and the whole squad a chance at playing with some senior players and getting match fitness. Things SHOULD be completly different when you have our first choice 11 all on the field at the same time

28 Jul 2012 22:56:53
A minority of posters on here are calling for BR's head.

1. For coming from a smaller club.
2. for not signing anyone after 48 hrs.
3. For signing Borini.
4. For the pre-season results.

These posts are not 'opinions' but inadequacies in understanding football full stop.

The People reporting Aqua off to Florentina for 7Mil... any word on the truth of the claim?

I'd be amazed if we got £7m for him!

RedSG

Might include SUSO on season long loan.

The sooner the better.
Then we can get someone 'who really wants to play for LFC!'.

28 Jul 2012 22:54:27
I'm truly bewildered by the misery on here. I understand the want for new players and for some to leave. I understand a little trepidation over linked players such as Allen (who I rate, but not for £15mil). But in all honesty I'll never understand people judging the players, an extremely new manager and really anything to do with our club on 3 sodding friendlys.

We've played very little of our regular players, especially our forwards. Suarez, Gerrard and Lucas our are three most important players. One is away, one played a few minutes and the other is recovering from a horrific injury. Borini has just joined and anyone really expecting Suso or Sterling to make a massive impact need a lot more patience.

Support the team, players and manager. At least give him to January to make his mark, before you slate everything.

Papa G

Thanks Papa G

I was starting to forget some people did talk sense on here!

gareth

Isn't Allen injured now.
Surely we won't move for a injured player, right now.

I said it before tiki taka football is useless without penetration its going to be same as kd(pass and move) we need to penetrate teams like barca or spain or like swansea who used space we need players who can dribble from midfield we need lots of space in our team and plz one big name striker coz traditionaly we have always played with class strikers

Reality red

Last season we did penetrate we just couldnt convert

Wait for the end of the transfer window for Rodgers to buy the players that can penetrate
Ruben

I love Kenny and i also realise we had good possession last year but i actually think we also gave the ball away loads.

Swansea also passed very well but once in attacking zone they went for it so it will not be any different for us...but its just early days and we are not going to be sharp up front or attacking yet

before kenny apoint the manager . this site have a pool for next Liverpool manager. I always vote for AVB. my Friend did for Rafa. Kenny come and use so much money in a year and club go down to 8th. now BR Unproven Manager bring unproven player. God save Liverpool.

hhh

What is the point in this post, oh and god help us with fans like you

AVB would have been wrong for us in my opinion. He may have had a good year or two but i do not think he would change our team enough that we remember what it is like to win often. Rodgers i think will give us that.

AVB short term would be good probably but long term Rodgers, as quite clearly he has a huge idea of how we should play and it will take time but simple fact is if you keep the ball less damage can be done

You guys drive me crazy. Yes we drew 0-0 with Tottenham. How does that mean we're not going to do well next season? It's a freaking friendly! Stop getting so depressed about it for christ's sake!

We are so boring, Next season will be a disaster. Our 1st 7 games are very hard. Rodgers could be out after 2 months.

The Olympics has started, pick a new sport. Football is lost on you...

Chill out. Give the guy a chance to actually make a change rather than just bandage over too many quick fix attempts. Some promising displays from the youngsters such as Robinson, Shelvey, Sama, some energy from Henderson which I think will suit new style (he can play killer passes, if only he could also play the simple ones!), and a good indication that one or two need to be on their way (Cole, Aquilani, Ecclestone & possibly Spearing unless BR wants extended squad players for Europa). Bright times ahead aren't guaranteed but I would like to see someone given a chance to implememnt a plan at least, and it would seem that OUR new manager has a plan at least.

28 Jul 2012 21:49:37
Brendan Rodgers talks like a good salesman.
I can't decide whether that is Car Salesman, Insurance salesman or Carpet Salesman.

A thousand points of light :.

Liverpool miss the chance . Luis Vaan gaal can be a great manager .

Lol think ur right there!

this is what he says about Carroll.
Asked if there had been any bids, he said: "Not that I am aware of. Obviously I'll know more when we get back. There has been a lot written about Andy, but you saw today he's happy to be here and he's worked very well since he's been here.

"The reality is he's still a Liverpool player, he can fit into how I want to play, and he's happy here.

"I'm certainly not wishing to push him out of the door."

Now id be tempted to believe this if it wasnt that he completely went against his word to try and buy Allen.
I hope Carroll stays.. but we will see

Some are saying how poor we looked during tonights game. Saying that half are team looked lost and to be honest you may be right.

However, Rodgers did stress that he wanted to change the way we approach the game and the way we think about playing it. He also said it would take time for his ideas to be put into practice.

Personally i think we may have a fairly poor start to the season due to the changes he is trying to make.
I for one would much rather have a bad start though and see the improvement build towards mid to end of the season. Even if we do not make top 4, for me i will be pleased to give Rodgers the time he needs to build this team and hopefully allow the team to show how excellent they are becoming again

3 Pre season games

Win-0
Draw-2
Lose-1
Goals-2.

I leave it to the fellow supporters to give opinions. I believe the tour is simply a complete flop show. Serves right for the owners.

AJ

You clearly have no idea what pre season is

Most pre-seasons for most clubs is like that. I bet you didn't even know that pre-seasons existed 'til recently hence your uneducated comment.

Well, my idea of pre season is to make players play together who are important to the season along with new signings so that they gel together and get ready for the start of season especially when u have Arsenal, Mancity, Manu as a part of your first 5 games. Well i dont really care about the preseason results, but really the performances did not convince me that we are ready for season.

And I firmly believe pre season sets the tone for rest of the season especially for the start since if u play well and get good results u will carry that confidence and when u have 3 miserable seasons and then u continue the same trend going into the new one, I am not sure it will help any one's confidence. If u want proof just check our last 3 seasons(09/10, 10/11, 11/12) pre season results and the one where we came 2nd in the league(08/09). Then you will get my point.

AJ

Its nothing to do with results.
Lee73

How on earth does that serve the owners right? The club with have generated thousands of new fans and so much money because of this tour, that combined with match practice and fitness levels improving, I dont see how you can complain

3 games & people are condemning....remember all this when rafa first came,it takes time to build for long term sucess, shankly went 9 years between titles y.n.w.a paisley's genius

You realise that we played with ecclestone and morgan as our strikers right?

AJ, can I ask why you support Liverpool?

Not that it matters when it comes to supporting Liverpool, but it might give the fellow readers a little insight into your behaviour.

You're prepared to write Liverpool off after 3 friendly games?

The owners, whilst they don't love the club like we do, saved us from bankruptcy and oblivion. They are also determined to make us successful once again - for business purposes

We can't buy the players that Man City and Chelsea go for, but when we win a trophy we can do so with our head held high

Joe

Considering we don't have or didnt play Suarez, borini, Johnson, gerrad, downing, Hendo, reina, I feel that our results were quite nice. Kept AS Roma ( a italaain and european powerhouse ) to only a two goal deficit with 95% youngsters and reserves.
AnfieldUSA

Real Madrid were spanked 5-2 yesterday - doesn't make them a poor team! Pre- season is about conditioning and less about results. Also this is not our complete squad. Chill out and enjoy what's left of the sunshine!

28 Jul 2012 21:41:40
I saw nothing to change my belief that Rodgers will be gone before Christmas. His approach is naive, he is out of his depth.
He does not have a sophisticated approach to the modern game, it's all text book theory.

No.7

Famous Liverpool support...

Support BR and support Liverpool is not same .

Dealing with other Liverpool fans for the last 3 years has really been fun...

Benitez has a bad season because the club's administration screwed up his transfer plans. His head is called for and delivered. At least though, he had 6 years and there was a legit argument that his time had come.

Hodgson comes in and is so unsuited to the job that it was almost comical. His head is called for (admittedly, I called for it) and delivered.

Kenny doesn't deliver top 4 because of the team's incredible knack for turning into headless chickens in the opposition area. We talk about building, yet no one is prepared to give the couple of young players he signed time to settle and develop, and people wanted him out before he'd completed his first full season. Which they get.

Now people (and its not just a couple of trolls or WUMs here or there) think Rodgers is knackered and we haven't even played a competitive game? I was actually worried about the leeway he'd get given the treatment Kenny, a club legend only surpassed by Shankly, got from some supporters, but writing him off already?

The absurdity of it is truly staggering. We will not get anywhere by sacking a manager a year, so unless Rodgers relegates us, we better stick with him for a while.

Don't worry, though, if you run him out of the club by Christmas, I'm sure Rafa will come back... for all of 5 months before you want him out too.

- Something Red -

Support BR and support Liverpool is not same .

When I said that about kenny alot of people disagreed but i disagree with you because BR hasn't played anything close to his starting eleven at the same time yet.

28 Jul 2012 21:36:11
This is what the tour is about to find out at close quarters who doesn't fit into Rodgers plans the only way to see it is let them play as Macca says when the squad is back home players will certainly leave.

28 Jul 2012 21:28:33
We should get gaston ramirez, nico gaitan, joe allen and matias suarez then we'd be sorted

Suarez is going to CSKA Moscow.

28 Jul 2012 21:27:24
Lots of possession against spurs. Once again no end product. Cannot see any improvement in the league position next season. I don't think we will get to two cup finals either.

Well put some money on it - wins loads of cash, then buy yourself a Man City shirt, eh?

It's premature to pan lack of end product when we played all but 30 minutes of the last game of the games with Eccleston (poor player) or Morgan (playing his first senior games) as our striker.

What we've established in terms of our attack, imo, is that Cole's not very good, Eccleston's not very good, and Sterling and Morgan aren't the finished articles yet. I could've guessed most of that before the tour, tbh. We won't be relying on any of them come the start of the league season.

If we'd had Suarez and Borini all tour and still didn't look like troubling the opposition goal, I'd be more worried. But we didn't.

28 Jul 2012 21:20:44
My opinion of the usa tour and players:

1. If the tour is intended to give players a chance to impress then for me jonjo desreves to be in the starting 11. Always felt he was a good player but he seems to have develped a yrd of pace.
2. Joe cole - technically decent so br will like him but carries no threat at all and if he should play in the front 3 it wastes a position - my opinion.
3. Big andy - some strikers have pace, some are good target men. Good strikers carry a threat. Andy carried more threat in 20 mins than all the other strikers on the tour. I backed the bloke last season and I think with the exeption of knocking all confidence out of him he would have done well for us next season- I rate rogers but let the other 9 outfield players play tikka taka footy as this guy will always carry an alternative threat. I think however that was his last game in an lfc shirt.
4. We don't need another cm. If rogers is good enough we have enough there to work with. I can't believe any money will be spent here before we buy another quality striker or winger. I think we haven't moved foreward in terms of goal scoring and as such a winger would feed the 9 (whoever that is) and create more. If caroll leaves in my opinion only a player such as higuin or cavani should be considered and if that proves impossible ( !) Then don't let him go.christ what happens if suarez and carroll leave and there is no plan b) ?

Nothing meant to be negative here - just pouring my head open !

Also sterling did well - just needs a few hot meals and will be a good one !

4 really good points, I agree with all of them. I also really rate Rodgers but just worry that his determination to introduce a very specific type of football actually leaves us slightly inflexible and unable adapt if and when the time comes.

We'll see I suppose.

Joe

If people think jon joe deserves a chance then i am sorry but that is one of our problems , ok give people a chance but he has had a chance and he is no where near what we require. top teams have better thats why they are top teams.

Hi Ed022, Does any one has a clue what the f*** is going on at the club. I know that you expect more than 4 or 5 signings depending upon departures. I mean do you honestly think one month is going to be enough to do that many deals not to mention the players leaving the club too. None of our big players played together yet and opening day is fast approaching and does any one at the club have a clue about our first 5 fixtures in the PL and also not to mention the Europa league qualifying matches which are going to be crammed in between. Then we will probably don't have Suarez, Coates, Bellamy and likely the Rodgers blue eyed boy Joe Allen and potentially Scott Sinclair as suggested by Eds for the start of season due to their Olympic commitments. Then there is always a chance of injury with the likes of Gerrard, Agger, etc and Lucas not fully match fit. The players from Euros not having enough game time by start of season. Seriously does any one have a clue or is it just going to take for ever to make so called assesment of the squad. A person with basic knowledge of football can point out the people who are good enough and not for the club. I just can't remain calm and positive no matter how hard i try.

AJ {Ed022's Note - Rodgers is going it his way and needs to be trusted - simple as that mate.}

1 month is plenty of time, a few transer windows back Stoke City signed 4 players in the last 5 hours of the transfer window! Plenty of time dont worry! However I just worry about the players Rodgers is after

Well my only fear is that if we had to do a stoke city in last 5 hours we will pay 35 mil for each of those 4 players.

AJ

If we bought 4 players for 35m each and one was Ramirez, Higauin, Neymar and Messi you guys would still be angry that we don't sign Ronaldo

Ben

Ed022 do you trust Brendan Rodgers to improve the squad? {Ed022's Note - Yes I do.}

28 Jul 2012 21:03:14
Right. Tour over. First competitive game coming up (even though half our team probably won't play in it because of the Euros and Olympics).

Most impressive players have been Shelvey and Pacheco. Shelvey in particular looked hungy, energetic and incisive. He was good on the ball, and constantly looking to make things happen. Whilst Pacheco looked like a player who sat down over the summer and had a long think about how hard he needs to work. I'd start with both of them on Thursday.

Sterling certainly has a bit about him, but his end product is nearly non existent at the moment. That will improve with time, but to stick him the first team and expect him to perform well from day 1 isn't fair on the lad. He needs to be eased in. Same with Suso, although he gets his head up better than Sterling.

Least impressive player by a country mile has been Eccelston. Not that fast, not that skillful, not that strong, doesn't make particularly clever runs, and as a result he was barely able to get a kick of the ball in any game he played. You can say it's harsh on a young player, but he's 21, not 17. Suso, Sama, Wisdom, Morgan, Shelvey, Robinson etc. are all the same age or younger and were far more impressive. He just won't ever be good enough for the PL, imo, and I think the only reason he was there was to make up numbers up top.

I also thought Aquilani was disappointing. He retained the ball okay, but no sharpness or incisiveness about him at all, when you compare him to Shelvey, you have to wonder whether keeping him about will just have him get in the way of Jonjo's development. Cole didn't really seem particularly good either.

Spearing and Adam weren't stellar, Spearing in particular doesn't look comfortable as the player to take the ball from the defenders. But they can both potentially have a role in the squad, if not necessarily the first choice XI.

- Something Red -

Brilliant assessment. Fair play mate. Jonjo is one to be watched for the future, defo got a star in the making I reckon.

JP.

Pity Kenny is not still the Manager

Who feels the same way?

I wanted him to stay, but I've seen nothing so far to suggest that Rodgers has been a bad appointment. We haven't played a competitive game yet.

Slating people for not goin the games? I hate people like you who think you no it all because you attend more than 3 games a season. I go to most home games and the odd away. 28 Jul 2012 20:59:00
Was pretty pleased with the performance as a whole today despite lacking a goal threat. What was obvious in the second half was that to play br's system we require much more movement. This was significantly better in the second half and think this is where we may see the importance of the likes of Henderson. Thought his movement was very good and the improvement in the midfields play was massive as a result. Until a lot of our players understand that the work off the ball is as important as the Hollywood pass on it then we won't see the true benefits of Rodgers footballing ethos. Anyway all in all a pretty good showing particularly second half and plenty of positives regarding the youngsters again.

Cheers
Greggers

It was terrible. What game were you watching ?

28 Jul 2012 20:57:44
I know its only preseason, but the team looks like its going to have the same problems as last year. Its great playing playing nice possession football, but we did that lots last year with Kenny anyway. And what cost us then will cost us again, this team needs an injection of fast creative players, but we just don't seem to sign these type of players for some reason or other. :(

Josh

I have been saying all around..we need silva type player...get ramirez..plsssssss

Did you see the pitch? and we only played with an established striker for 20 mins hard to judge allready wait till at least decemeber

Does it do anyone else nut it when posters dont even know the names/spellings of their own players Xavi Alonso, Gerard, Carol, Sperring, Skertal, Daglesh etc. Its written on the back of the shirt, you watch them twice a week! Just shows most internet posters dont go the match... they would struggle chanting L-I-V-E-R-P-O-O-L Liverpool FC ha!

Guess what mate, you just used all of them in one paragraph, so shut up!

I agree mate..I know it's not an English exam, but it doesn't take much effort to look up the spelling of a player's name.. Rome 77

Jones,Flanagan,Adam,Cole,Downing,Spearing,Shelvey,Wilson

all need to be sold and better quality players to come in but not Gaston Ramirez

alan50

Its Pre season fool, plus it's only Rodgers third game and your saying nothing has changed get a grip

Shelvey? Really. I thought many said he was man of the match?

Shelvey wilson and flanagan should be taken off that list of yours... shelvey has been playing great latley so your judgement is obviously terrible..

Gaston Ramirez is better than most players in our team. Especially in that specific position.

liverpool's scoring problem from last season is still there?

Seems to be a very negative version of Tiki taka with very few openings being created. What's the point of a pin-point 30 yard pass forward if the receiver is just going to pass it back the same 30 yards.

Remember that we are missing Gerrard, Borini has only just joined us. Carroll played a part. That is a fair bit of attacking power to come. Along with a full strength team behind them in the midfield and the back lines and things may well change very quickly. Preason is about a run out , having a look at some players and getting the team together.

I thought Robinson was the highlight this evening. Decent tackles and tried to get forward at the right time. Could give Enrique some decent competition.

Plenty to be positive about in the 2nd half. Jack Robinson showed that he is capable of pushing Enrique for his place. The more I see of Stephen Sama, the more impressed I am, and it looks as though Lucas will be 100% fit for the start of the league season.

Sorry boys...not convinced, I know its pre season etc etc but half the side look like they dont have a clue.....
The worry is that we dominated most of the games we played last year and we were 2-3 players from being a top side......
I fear for the season if we dont make rapid signings in the window....sorry for the doom im usually positive even when weve played badly, im just not convinced on the old tika taka toka woka........

Sure there are plenty of other teams who would love your support, and negativity. what did everyone think about that game? and the tour? I think the main thing we're lacking is creativity and the best way to have that is to try to keep suarez. Also i believe we should go for gaston ramirez because he's creative, he's got pace and flair. Joe Allen no doubt is a good player in my opinion but i don't think we need him in my opinion henderson can do the same things as him and it would be throwing 15 mil away when we should go for flairy and creative players and i still think we need to get a good solid proven striker if we sell carroll.

Shelvey. What a player. Who wants to sent him on loan. One of the best midfielders I have seen.

28 Jul 2012 19:29:47
The second half is a million miles better up to now!

Mike S

I know it's only pre-season, but I still struggle to see where the goals are gonna come from..

It wasn't that much better lol
gareth

Well it was :-/

Mike S

Have a look at who was absent, boys. Unfortunately the added availability to watch pre-season games for fans is creating more ingnorance that informed comment. These games matter very little. Why not watch them to enjoy and look forward to what happens when we have our full squad and the manager has had a chance to train with all of them. It is unrealistic expectations that leave you feeling down.

Is it me or does Spearing look like a young Keith Chegwin with a shaved head?

cozinoz

Who's ad his legs cut off from the knees down yes. He's from the wirral though and he's Carra's mate and he's nearly a scouser and he loves the club and he's shows heart and he's Carras mate and he's hard as nails and he loves the club and he's a true scouser from the wirral and have I mentioned that he's Carra's mate. He's S**T.

Hope he leaves. Either on loan or sold just get rid of the golum

Tim Vickery on Talk Sport stating that Liverpool are "in the box seat" in terms of signing Gaston Ramirez.

Cheers,

Mule

Isn't he clued up?

Clueless, you mean...

Makes me laugh how whenever talksport, sky sports and theMail say something that's not exactly music to most of us who read/contribute to this page,it's s***e and a pack of lies. But when it's something like ol Gaston signing they suddenly become morw then plausible sources.
ps,would be nice if it did happen haha.
Jonson

So anybody that says Ramirez is coming to Liverpool from talksport is clueless yet everyone wants the signing to happen... Plus all the papers have basically linked Ramirez to Liverpool along with two journalists from uraguay and one from Italy. On top of that his agent has been talking about him moving to an english side for sure, and all these people are clueless.

I am not saying it wont happen and I would be happy if it did, but the Ramirez press connections all feed off each other. One guesses, the next quotes the first, the third quotes for the first two etc etc. When a comment comes from a country of connection to a player, Italy and Uraguay in this case, then the English Press speak like it adds validity. You dont think jouranlists in other countries take a punt? Of course they do but this does not make it any more valid. Where there is smoke, there isnt necessarily fire. Otherwise clubbing would have been a lot more dangerous in the 90s (he he). I would love to see him red next year but I am not holding my breath.

Spearing truly is the worst player on the pitch I could do a better job than him
He is woeful and he's had the most game time throughout the tour
Unbelievable every time I see his name on the team sheet I get a little bit sad
Bean

I totally agree. There's hope for any average player in the Academy.Unfu**in believable.

I reckon u said the same about Lucas?

Jay spearing will probably leave the club this summer but the one thing he has got is a big liverpool heart and he does in my opinion keep improving and has never let the club down.we need to b very careful that when carra and Gerrard hang there boots up we don't end up with a team without a scouser in it.so get rid of your Charlie Adam, joe cole, aquiliani who are on big money and keep hold of your scousers who don't cost much and don't complain about being a squad player

Excellent reply mate..heart touching

Im starting to get fed up by this "Well lucas stopped sucking and became a star" yes he did, one player that started bad for pool and got great. one out of how many?!

Firstly I didn't complain about lucas
And I know that we don't want to lose the local lads from the team but you have to agree that he is just bent good enough
Kelly flanno robbo Morgan all local and will develop into top quality players

Eds, do you think Gaitan is a possible target? {Ed002's Note - See earlier answers.}

28 Jul 2012 19:03:04
At least BR will now know if he didn't before that Charlie Adam cannot play tic tac to footy..

Lost count how many times he try's playing the ball over the top.. Hows the saying go you can't make a silk purse out of a pigs ear...

Curled1

Going off tonight's performance, no one in the team can so theres probably hope for him yet!

Aqualani>Adam

28 Jul 2012 19:01:31
it seems as if Enrique is playing his and joe coles positon. i really want the guy gone, he never makes forward runs . he always passes bak. charlie adam for one tries , shame the guy runs with his two left legs, but it just aint good enough . but he gets ten points for effort.

28 Jul 2012 19:01:07
After watching the first half I'm a bit disappointed there is no shape and we desperately need some speed in the team! Spearing and Adam is a no go in midfield certainly not together cause they are as bad as each other! I know it only a pre season and this isn't our first team but these are professional players and they can't employ Rodgers style or tactics! Dubred

No shape? We're you watching the same game as me? Was about the best thing we had going.

That i why i would love to see walcott personally

gareth

28 Jul 2012 18:58:36
Downing, Adam & Spearing are not good enough.

Downing looks alot more versatile than the other two. I would keep him for depth in the squad as a sub of course. Adam and spearing need to pack their bags and toy and get on their bikes

28 Jul 2012 19:05:44
Hello fellow kopites after watching our pre-season matches, I have come to 2 conclusions :
1. Most of other teams chances come from either spearing or charlie adam mistakes.
2. I don't care if don't sign anyone But please Mr. Rodgers get rid of atleast Adam, Spearing, Jones, Danny wilson, Cole, Eccleston. (possibly Carroll & Aquilani)

28 Jul 2012 18:49:51
WHY is downing playing as a SS?

What is the score of the game i cant get to watch it. {Ed049's Note - 0-0 HT}

He was playing in a front 3 with Morgan and Cole.

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew says Liverpool must accept a significant loss if they are to sell Andy Carroll.

Why is Alan Pardew such a smug arrogant man?

He jumped on the bandwagon last year when he signed Sylvain Marveaux, and ever since he thinks that Newcastle can match Liverpool, simply because they finished above us in one season?

Now, Alan Pardew wants Liverpool to sell Carroll to Newcastle for a significant loss. Why can't this man get off his f***ing high horse and realise that LFC are no mugs.

Yes Alan, I would like to see your team really struggle this coming season, and for you hopefully to get sacked by Mike Ashley, even though he's your mate...

Yeah, that really would take that snidey smile off your arrogant face.

Alan Pardew - You Smug B*stard, your team isn't better than LFC and you know it.

To be fair and i love lfc but he is right?
Whether he is smug or not.

Can anyone on this site honestly say we could get £35 million for Carroll if we sell him?
Of course not. And while i agree that we are a much bigger club they did finish ahead of us for from that point on you can only agree they are the better league side currently

Do i think they will be at the end of this year? Not at all

gareth

It's okay he's still a bit jumpy after FA cup 2006

Whatever happens with Carroll (and I personally would like him to stay) we must NOT allow the arrogant sod Pardew to do us over. I know we probably will though. If Carroll does go, maybe we should do a straight swap with Spurs for Daniel Levy. At least we would have someone with some balls to do the transfer dealings.

redmersey

I think he need to concentrate on his own team rather than commenting on anybody else's

that away kit is really bad, it has way too many grey blobs on it!

28 jul 2012 18:32:31
goodbye charlie adam...

slow.........
cant tackle
always giving away fouls
not quick enough..or agile

red lobster

He can't be arsed either which is the most annoying thing, Spearing has made some errors too but mainly because Adam offers him no option when Shelvey has made a forward run. He's terrible.

Was joe cole in the team? i have been saying continously..ship cole, spearing and adam...and bring allen and ramirez...and dempsy..and thats enough

28 Jul 2012 18:30:47
I know it's only a pre-season, but wake up Liverpool for gods sake.

I felt sorry for those people who travelled distances and forked out cash for that. Probabably the one time a year they'll get to see their team. Both teams were woeful.

28 Jul 2012 18:18:34
Enrique and Skrtle would be the only 2 of this team that would be in my squad, never mind my first team.

What about Shelvey ?

Hans

Shelvy gives the ball away far too much, if he did that in an important game we'd be f***ED.

Many other people deserve the stick before chrlie in my line. for me cole is in the front of that que.

He needs game time and I would send him on loan.

Shelvey, Flanno, Morgan

Enrique has been piss poor. He needs to stop relying on his strength and defend he makes too many unforced error... It's a real shame because he has shown he could be fantastic. But he hasn't shown it for six months.

28 Jul 2012 18:17:25
Charlie the sloth

Great supporter you are. okay not having good game at all but the pressure to play well is huge and hard to live up to sometimes
gareth

The whole of last season, he was charlier the sloth. Today he was charlier the sloth, next season if he stays he'll be charlier the sloth. He doesn't deserve another chance to make a fool out of himself. Aquaman in chazzer the sloth out.

28 Jul 2012 18:17:19
ino the pitch is bad but my GOD Charlie is playing like crap

28 Jul 2012 18:16:29
Alberto Aquilani is a very strong player he has very good vision for passes in the final third and he is able to find open space where he has time on the ball again in the final third. He releases very accurate passes in one touch or tops two if he receives a bad pass. It is not his fault if the outside forwards need to work on receiving aerial balls. He also tracks back quite well though he may need to improve his tackling a bit. However, from what I understand at Milan he held more of a holding role and was involved in a statically equivalent number of tackles and fouls that were equivalent to what you would expect in the EPL. Hopefully, this would go to help disprove the theory that he is not strong enough for the game in the EPL. Some have pointed out that he has pulled out of tackles but for the preseason I doubt they care to have any players injured.

My point and concern is that it does not seem like the posters on this site for the most part do not seem to be able to make reasonable judgments about a player's technical and tactical ability. I believe that this maybe because certain players do not fit the mould of what some fan's expect to see from a center mid and also from preconceived notions that they have built up about Aquilani from the past.

Liverpool fans have always been known to be well informed, intelligent, witty, and passionate about the game and I do not want to see that questioned. Brendan Rodgers has said that he will give all of the players a fresh start and I hope that the fans can do the same. I must admit that it will be difficult for me and Joe Cole but I will try as I would hope everyone here will do for Aquilani. To better see his skill just look at the times he has space in the middle of the field in the final third that ability is extraordinarily difficult for any player to achieve.

Coley

Bin the mercenary immediately. I really don't care if he wants to play for us now - he didn't for the last 2 seasons, cost us a fortune and made us look like mugs.

Nick

You must have been watching different games to me then. Aquilani might have technical ability but he seldom gets to show it because he's so static. His movement off the ball is abysmal from what I have seen. How many times have we seen Jay Spearing holding his arms out in front of him screaming for Aquilani and Adam to make some space for a pass and they both just stand there like statues. Then when they do managae to somehow get space to recieve a pass they lump it over the top? Aquilani is s***e.

MarkB.

To be honest when Aquilani came (and played) my opinion was that he was too good in the pass and move dept for the rest of our team. After that things seemed to go pear-shaped and it was made clear to him that he wasn't wanted.
That may have helped him develop an 'attitude' towards the club in particular and the premiership in general. I think he has the ability to be a very good player in Rodgers' team. But will we give him a chance?

Puzzled

So he gets forced out on loan twice, hasn't been given a chance and it's bin him... Yes bin the player that we all wanted to keep last season as he was out best player in preseason. He played well for Milan and is a miles better than Adam and spearing. He deserves a shot, Adam and spearing got theirs and failed.

28 Jul 2012 18:14:58
Carragher and Spearing and Flanagan, shows we're in for a great season lads

That wasnt funny

Liverpool fans we should let rodgers to sign any player he wants coz at the end of the day his responsible for succes or failure and plz we shouldn't slate benitez atleast we should respect him we as liverpool fans are turning like our neighbours (biters)

Reds

Whoever slates Benitez is a fan off kenny, and I'm sorry but Benitez did a great job for us, Liverpool were a top team playing brilliant football. No wonder why most fans wanted him back. Brendan rogers is out manager now so time to back him and give him the chance. If he flops he's no different than daglish or hodgson.

28 Jul 2012 17:54:01
FACT..FACT.FACT...FACT
Carroll is going
Spearing is going
Skrtel staying
Allen coming in 100%
Ramirez nearly done 90%
Dempsey deal gone flat...unsure
Aqualini been told not in future plans agent trying for a move but no many clubs that interested unless big price drop.
Cole part of plans
Sterling to play a big part next season

Why is the above (fact?)
Where has this info came from?
Could it be guess work?

Would mind any of that apart from keep aqua get rid of Adam.

Rafael benitez definition

Brought back the pride and respect to the club

Took us to the two champions league final

Worked under one of the poorest owners in lfc history

Built our academy

Fought for the club

Brought back king kenny to the club

Brought back god(fowler) and gave him chance

We finished second in english premier legue and just lost two games

Brought some of the best players for club

Gave some of the memorable matches eg

Only the english club to beat barcelona at new camp

Beating realmadrid 4-1

Beating manchester united 4-1

After many years beating manchester united back to back home and away

Beating stoke city 8-0

Top of it he loved liverpool inside and out and still does it

For a young fan like me I will always respect him and thank him because of him I saw some of my best moments as liverpool fan

Reds

All true and I respect him massively, although he also bought some absolute dross and finished second when he should have won the prem and became so self important he made terrible mistakes on and off the pitch to the point where he was damaging the club and the team
He went on possibly 12 months too late and was in part responsible for the decline from which we are still battling to get back from.

Chris in Tamworth

Could not agree more. But, that does not mean I want him back. It's Rodgers turn to make moments like that for ours and the new generation!

Cannot agree more mate..
always thought he would do wonders again if given a proper chance under good owners ..the man's a tactical genius ..as much as i wish BR becomes highly successful and take us back to where we belong if there is any other manager that I could trust 100% to make us successful its Rafa.. He loves LFc from his heart and has an eye for talent alongside being the great tactician that he is ,he definitely deserves another chance..
for now wishing BR luck for the new season and here's hoping that we dont have to change manager's again in a long long time..but for that to happen he needs to look beyond his ex-players and overpay for them while abundance of cheap quality talent lies abroad who would be proud to wear the red shirt..

AND? He came, he failed, he's gone...any chance we can move on and stop going on and on and on about him?

MR EM

Yes ,i have the utmost respect for him,the fact that he loves lfc makes me love him even more, don insult him by comprng him to mourin**,rafa is definitely a king.but now i support br and i hope gets this beautiful club back to where it belongs and i feel he wl do it.some things are just meant to be.

indian scouser

Rafa did a great job & every manager has had bad buys that's football, think rodgers is the man for the job lets support him & his choice of players y.n.w.a

Chris in tamworth mate name any manger who hasn't done mistake in football even the likes of shanks and paisley have done mate yes we should support rodgers he is our manager but we shouldn't start slating our ex manager coz every manager has done something for this great club and am from gerard houllier era mate

Gerard houllier worked hard day and night for our great club to fix and organise our training ground melwood

Benitez brought respect and pride for our great club

King kenny came and stabilize the club and gave us a trophy although will miss his celebration

Reds

Common mate..if u can criticse rafas buy..pls what u say about KK spending 20 mill on downing?...rafa is a genius..now lets admitt this..
its becoz him we have shelvey, suso, pachheco and other yougsters and academy...

He was an egotistical waster who won 2 trophies in 6 years, one of which was with Giulietta team, which he nearly blew in his team selection, the other one, we were even luckier. He was a man who knew how to play the fans, and who blamed everyone else for his glaring errors. Worst manager we've had in my 53 years as a Kopite.

John B

Reds you are exactly right we should get behind our manager but I'm not the one who brought up Rafa. You posted about Rafa for no apparent reason, he's gone it's over and we need to move forwards unfortunately some only want to harp on about Rafa.
You say you're behind Rodgers but I'm afraid I can smell it a mile off that if he has a bad start you'll be on here crying and moaning that we should bring Rafa back

Chris in Tamworth

Can we not move on. he is much too defensive and even during the 2008-2009 season we experienced 12 draws. many of which could easily have been prevented by making correct substitutions; for example, everton 0-1 liverpool and benitez takes off torres (our only striker on the pitch at the time) and everton score. he also fell out with player after player. he tried to replace alonso with barry. he was a good coach for us but i really don't want him back. he has been found out and is much too defensive. Chris in Tamworth hit the nail in the head, that benitez started our decline. time to move on.
derryred

Rafa was the manager under hicks and Gillette, we saw how ugly they treated our club from an external view imagine what it was like internally. We dont know whe full story but managers always get the blame. Kenny got the blame for all the bad buys. Rafa gets the blame for somehow putting the blame on others. How could you say rafa is the worst manager in lfc history, you clearly old and watch football from your armchair. Football has advanced so much from your day, lots more pressure. Rafa had wenger Mourinho and ferguson to worry about. I don't see that same pressure on any Liverpool manager now. Rafa was living at the top. I agree the downfall started under him, but I don't blame him entirely for it. I blame hicks and Gillette also. The stats say it all, 64% of Liverpool fans wanted rafa back, there's a reason for that. Now Brendan rogers has the spotlight, if he doesn't get fourth then I expect the same persons that say rafa failed to say rogers failed. One thing I've learned from football is that people that play it have far more knowledge than people that watch it. Backing BR is my job as a supporter now, I respect rafa cause he earned my respect. BR has to earn mine as well. Simple as.

28 Jul 2012 17:12:01
Starting lineup for the match vs Spurs

Liverpool: Jones, Enrique, Flanagan, Skrtel, Carragher, Spearing, Shelvey, Adam, Downing, Cole, Morgan.

Subs: Gulacsi, Wisdom, Henderson, Eccleston, Sterling, Sama, Wilson, Robinson, Gerrard, Lucas, Borini, Carroll.

So Carroll on the bench as well as Borini!

Aquilani not even on the bench, has he played his last game for us? I hope so.

Looking forward to the match. It is pre-season but I am hoping we can show Sigurdsson why should should have chosen LFC instead of going for money.

YNWA

Red4life

Spurs regularly finish above us, How has he chosen to sign for them for money?

I was hoping to see suso and aquliani......................and NOT SPEARING OR ADAM..

Come on you REDS!!!!!!

Sigurdsoon did sign to spurs for money, if you didn't know that by now, you have little knowledge about how football works. Spurs have finished above us and achieved nothing. They still play in the europa and still haven't won anything.

28 Jul 2012 17:03:17
People are now complaining saying they don't want to lose out to Spurs again. Make your minds up. Do you want to pay 15m for Allen just so Spurs don't get him or do you want that 15 m to spend on someone who will improve the squad rather than add to it?

BthekingB

28 Jul 2012 16:57:42
Tonights Line-up:
Jones, Enrique, Flanagan, Skrtel, Carragher, Spearing, Shelvey, Adam, Downing, Cole, Morgan.

Subs: Gulacsi, Wisdom, Henderson, Eccleston, Sterling, Sama, Wilson, Robinson, Gerrard, Lucas, Borini, Carroll.

Does any of the Eds no why Aquilani's not there? If he's not in the pre-season squad, im worried if he will get into the actual first team squad in the coming season, i can see him being a big player for us this year!...

Mate how could the eds know ? he could have been injured. it could be something personal. it could be to rest for next week it could be to finalise his move to whatever club. he could of course also be injured or ill.

Long coveted by Manchester United, now also comes Gaitán in the accounts of Liverpool. The Reds follow much the Argentina international, 24, and are willing to proceed with a proposed 18 million for his pass.

Forced to sell assets to ensure financial stability, Luis Filipe Vieira waiting for a superior offer to release the extreme that, remember, is bound by 2016 and shielded by a termination clause of 45 million euros. After months of negotiations with the Red Devils, who until now did not have the desired effect, the red DSS now has the opportunity to study a new solution to ensure a significant financial plug. The question is whether the interest of Liverpool will not revive the passion of Manchester United.

£18 mil? Not a chance I would be suprised if we sign anybody for more than 15 mil , the owners wont risk big money signings after all the disapointment with Downing, Adam and Carroll. We will try to achieve a champions league spot with a couple of cheap players, then maybe after finishing in the bottom of the table FSG will realize that it takes quality and quality costs .If You want a quality team You have to spend . I really hope BR knows what he is doing.

28 Jul 2012 16:43:35
bit gutted if the bigLAD does leave, think he can be another option for up up top and showed he can perform for us during the last third of the season. But on the other hand I have total faith in BR. He obviously has other targets that fit his system better and I'm happy to go with it like we all should.

Looking forward to seeing Aquilani & Cole stake a claim aswell, both quality players IMO. Would like us to push for Ramirez and Johnson but dunno how realistic they are.

Excited about the BR era.. they guy knows his arse from his elbow!

When you say he performed in the last third of the season I think you actually mean at a couple of moments in a couple of games

Chris in Tamworth

28 Jul 2012 16:42:46
Hi Eds, do you know which of our youngsters are highly rated by management etc? I understand Sterling, Suso, Morgan, Shelvey etc, but I was just wondering if BR or Rodolfo rated any of our other youngsters ?
Favlar {Ed002's Note - I really don't know.}

Ryan McLaughlin; Brad Smith; Jordan Ibe; Jerome Sinclair and Yalany Baio are five highly rated youngsters within the club.

Macca, no transfers have been done apart from borini, is this because rodgers wanted to assess the entire squad on tour and see if the players could cut it in games? then having seen some are not up to the standard will look to ofload those players and bring in some quality players? i like they way rodgers is going about his business but do you think the owners will back him in the transfer market and would you now expect more signings than the 4 you said before

The Gaitan link translated:

From the two friendlies we've had, I think we can be sure that players like Spearing, Aquilani and Eccleston are simply not good enough for the club.

And people please stop screaming for Sterling and Suso to start, from the two games we can see that they are talented, but definitely not ready to be in the starting eleven.

One of the players overlooked by previous managers that deserves a chance in the Liverpool jersey is Pacheco. He was by far the best players in both of the matches, he will be our solution to the left wing position I believe.

Also I will like people's opinion on Carroll. Previously we played with Eccleston and Morgan upfront. But they didn't appear to have done much. I'm sure, if given the chance, Carroll could close defenders down like Morgan and will give defenders a lot of problems.

Absolute rubbish. Where to start with this complete cobblers!

Suso is ready imo

Cudge

Tbh, I'm inclined to agree about Ecclestone and about Aquilani. Ecclestone just doesn't offer anything, and Aquilani's one nothing incisive in pre-seaosn so far. And he's supposed to be a creative midfielder. Toronto game in particular, he looked like he couldn't have cared less about being there. And it's bothersome because he's got the talent to do much better than that.

Spearing I'm less sure about. He's a limited player, yes, but we don't have another combative midfielder apart from himself and Lucas atm. He could be improved upon if we can get someone who's both better than him and prepared to play second fiddle to Lucas, but I wouldn't shove him out just yet.

I also agree about Pacheco, his attitude was rumoured to be a problem in the last couple of years, but now he looks like a player who realised he'll have to knuckle down to be successful. Whether or not he should be first choice is another matter entirely, but he's someone I'd like to see in the first team.

Suso is ready to play a dozen games this season, imo. Wouldn't be fair to drop him in every game and expect him to swim though.

- Something Red -

I havent seen the roma game, bt i thought Spearing had a decent game vs Toronto. played accurate passes throughout, i think he is worth keeping

Against Toronto, Aquilani completed 33 of his 34 passes (97%). Looking at it objectively, if he wishes to stay and if we have proper designs on the top 4 - then surely Aquilani's technical ability demands that he stays.

He is technically the best player in the squad.

is enrique the solution for our LB? positioning in attack or defence, decision making plus end product not good enough. maybe he thinks he has no challenger (robinson not experienced enough) i wish he improves this season or else good bye

By the way Henderson, C.Adam, A.Caroll and Shelvey will surprise people this season. i dont know for downing.

budashow

Are you serious? Enrique is a top player. Solved the issue at LB that team has had since we sold Riise. Unsure what you are basing this on anyway.. He has done no wrong.

Enrique is a defender who is world class when he primarily has to defend. KK made him play a more attacking role and he's not as suited to it.

Enrique is two stone over weight, the QE11 could turn in a circle faster than him.Would rather have Robinson any day!!!!!

Baz F

I wuoldn't go as far as saying world class he is ok but could do a lot better.

Frog

The one thing which Enrique surely lacks is another foot...

He plays only with his left foot and thts the reason he is not in the Spanish squad....Apart from this I think he is a very good player....

And yes every player need competition....

LiverBird

Enrique looks like he's carrying a bit of timber to me, which is scandalous if he is, especially after the poor end of season he had. You would think that he'd have rationed the pasties over the summer. It appears not.

Lots of rumours on various site's that Tottenham are to go in for Allen and that cos there was a "gentleman's agreement" BR would not go after Swansea player's for first season their chairman may well prefer to deal with Spurs.
This is exactly why transfer's should be kept secret so no one else gets wind of who you are after. Spurs don't need scouts they just need to go after players other teams are in for...its getting sickening.

Liverpool are looking to ship out any three of these five Alberto Aquilani,Jay Spearing,Joe Cole,Dani Pacheco and Charlie Adam while Jonjo Shelvey is likely to join Swansea on a season long loan as part of a deal to bring Joe Allen to Anfield. Liverpool are closing in on their second signing after agreeing a fee of £16.3m for Bologna's Gaston Ramirez. Liverpool have sent representatives down to London to discuss terms with Ramirez and his agent. Ramirez is training with Uruguay in London for the 2012 Olympics. Ramirez will be following in the footsteps of Luis Suarez and Sebastian Coates as Liverpool continue to build on their Uruguayan contingent. Joe Allen will likely be the only other arrival at Anfield unless they receive a bid upwards of £20m for Andy Carroll which simply is not going to happen. IMO These will be the transfers OUT-Aurelio,Kuyt,Maxi,Aquilani,Pacheco, possibly Adam but unlikely, I can't see Liverpool being able to shift Joe Cole due to his sky high wages and I also think it is unlikely they will manage to shift Spearing who would probably not want to move on anyway IN-Borini,Ramirez,Allen Rodgers wants to bring some of the younger players through with the likes of Suso,Morgan and Wisdom likely to join up with Raheem Sterling and Jack Robinson in the first team squad. Rodgers will play a 4-3-3 probably a back 5 of Reina-Johnson-Skrtel-Agger-Enrique a midfield trio of Lucas-Gerrard-Allen{Henderson} then Suarez and Ramirez playing either side of Borini or Carroll. Liverpool should have some quality in reserve aswell with Downing,Bellamy,Coates,Spearing,Cole etc.

Uruguayan contingent? Suarez will be sold and Coates cant get a game. Ramirez will not sign for us. allen is not worth 15m. Id agree we should sell spearing, How he gets a game is beyond me, terrible player.

Bang on mate. Seems realistic and I personally think we have a much better squad than last seaso. With the youth and just those few signings without loosing a big name

Whether Spearing is a LFC player or not give the guy some credit for stepping up when Lucas got injured, Gerrard was out and Adam too.

28 Jul 2012 14:01:02
Liverpool's decline in the last years has been disastrous but never did I think that it would be so disastrous that we would struggle to even keep up with a club like Spurs, a club who have a smaller stadium, a smaller fan base, far less prestige, much smaller sponsorship & commercial deals, and far less merchandising streams!

Whatever went wrong at Liverpool it is now become obvious that any club with a slightly ambitious outlook can compete against us, and eventually, as in Spurs case surpass us, Newcastle next anyone?

Noddy

Good post , LFC are definately enduring a down turn in no small part due to 'Hicks & Gillette' .

Do you think spurs will be able to continue to pay the huge wages of vdv, modric, bale etc. without them leaving. it is all well and good in the short term but liverpool will overtake them again.
derryred

Stop the pessimism, Spurs took Sigurdson by paying over the odds for him, which Rodgers wasn't prepared to do. As for Allen, everyone was bitching about him signing last week, now there is rumour of Spurs interest everyone's dissapointed. Liverpool are a far bigger club than Spurs, always have been, always will. Stop whining like little girls. This is probably just Swanseas' attempt at squeezing a few more bob out of us.

David

28 Jul 2012 13:46:40
Brendan looking for two more signings. A CM/DM player (allen) and a AM. Sigurdsson was mean to be the AM but he went to spurs. Ramirez is a good AM who plays as a No10 for bologna, which makes him a target as well. Gerrard to be played as the right sided forward in a 433. Explains why wingers are not prioritised although dirk and maxi left. Brendan sees gerrard as a good right sided player. Just sharing what I read in a website.

Will back Rodgers all the way but still think he could have given Carroll a chance.
Jo Allen is a top player but £15 mill is way over the top as any club except the top 4 or Lpool can buy him for £10 million.
Ramirez would be available for about £17 million and is a much better player.

hi eds hope your all well, from the moment torro was sold 50m and other player's we sold at that time, what money have are owner's spent of there own money on player's ?.they must want too push up the table ed's.with how this window is going the not spending anything 1 player in for 8m at the min,it is looking like we will not be doing too much in the way of transfer's.i dont like the way its looking.i hope we get 2 or 3 player's in but it's looking unlikely.all this carroll s***e is a joke.KEEP HIM use are big man.23 year's old,and he dont want too go.come on rodger's wake up...jay essex red for life red till dead.as alway's with hope walk on

If the manager doesn't think he's up to the job then you should support that, everybodys defence for Carroll is that he'll be a great plan B, plan B? every player in the squad should be ready for plan A.

So you want FSG to spend a sh*t to of money on the club and watch it make loss after loos each year?

I'd rather the club was run on a healthy business plan that will make sure the club is here for many years to come.

Shanks would be turning in his grave at the way some fans behave.

KT!

Since the new owners have taken over they have been one of the highest net prem spenders. Rodgers wants his attacking three to have pace movement and finishing. How many of those three skills has Carroll got? I would say zero. Redevon

It sounds like the origional poster wants H&G back. i would rather we didn't spend big on short term goals and have a club in the long term. Liverpool FC was around long before these big name players we hear of now and will be around long after their gone.
derryred

28 Jul 2012 12:17:39
So Rodgers has given FSG a 180 page dossier on how the club can improve. This man is spending more time talking a good game than actually doing anything, Im starting to think he's not up to the job. Less talk, More work please Brendan. We're missing out on players left right and centre. No wonder Skrtel, Agger and Suarez are being linked with moves away. I dont think they have any confidence in Brendan, He seems to small time for us. Mike ynwa

You think he isnt doing enogh work? what do you want a 200 page dossier

Which he has spent 15 years on writing and developed it. You could back he's vision and ambition. I'm sure he's spending much needed time with the players and much needed time behind the desk analysin which player suites Liverpool. It's all about tweaking the team a bit.

- EmilDenmark

How do you know we have missed out on any players?

Do you know for sure who are targets are?

Players being ''linked'' with moves away is totally meaningless, it could be made up nonsense to sell papers or subscriptions to garbage websites!

And what is wrong with providing your employers with a plan of how you wish to move forward?

I think if we bought Messi fans like you would just look for the negative!

MR EM

So, the manager hands to the owners a clearly defined plan to take the club forward, not only this year but for the future aswell, and this is somehow wrong?! For the first time in years we have a manager who seems to have a very definite vision and a definite plan to achieve that vision and you're complaining?! When I read about this document, it really excited me and made me realise we have been waiting for someone direct with a clear vision for years. And before you Rafa lovers jump on me, yes Rafa did have a vision for the club, but he got power hungry and lost sight of the most important thing, the football. I can't see Rodgers doing that.

I'm very excited for the years ahead, I just hope all the doom mongers don't get on his back too soon, because I think if we give him time, he'll bring success to this amazing club, and he'll do it in style.

The captain

Rumour has it this document has his transfers he wants aswell.... but i guess your happy with the squad as is? loophole in eveything

To the original poster,

just look at the man, the way he conducts him self, he is a hardworker belives in building something n not just buying it. And who said we are looseing players ? Whom gilfy? Hezard? Oscor? Kangawa? Were these players even considered? Or should i say do these players even considered us? .
We should accept some facts and try to build something on it. And the process has started. 1. For say finaly we have a proper strikers suarez-borini. Yup they are not like messi-villa,or drogba-anelka. But fact is we have improved on that front. As in resent past we dintd had a strike pair. Torres was alone, n last term suarez looked alone. So there is progress. Dempsay is abt to come in. At least for 2yr he can give us some goals n assist for sure. Walcot , ramirez? Any one of these two could be an improvement.
More imp that that whole liverpool squad knows what they gonna do on field. The second problem solved again as last season kk for around his whole term didnt knew what he was doing. What he wanted. neither did his team.

Skrtel Agger and Suarez are linked with a move as they're top/world class players. Perhaps also agent talk so they get more "pennies" in new contract. Skrtel last year of contract and Suarez told his getting a new contract. Redevon

Aye Aye Captain, could not agree more!

Anyone else think Shelvey is better than spearing and adam put together?

Anyone else think Sterling in better than downing and Cole put together?

I don't think we should sign Allen either though just keep Aqualini for one season first see what he can do his passing is second to none noone can argue with that!

Cole is better than sterling at the moment

Hounsred

Why would we want them to be put together that would be some kind of four legged, two headed Frankenstien type monster... i for one do not like the way football is going these days! Are there no ends to what fans will go to for Victory. Ohhhh the humanity! Its probably all FSG and Jay Spearing fault too!

This site needs more comments in the style of the Frankenstien comment. I'd rather have a laugh than read people's complaints.

- Logic

I believe a certain xabi alonso may have something to say about your last statement. sterling isn't better than cole and downing combined. you have watched him in a couple of cameos, 2 preseason friendly's and perhaps playing in the reserves. how does that give you enough evidence to say that he is better than 2 international players combined. don't get me wrong he has lots of potential and i would be suprised if he doesn't take over downing and cole in terms of ability but it is still too early to come to that conclusion.

It looks like there will be a few players leaving when we get back from the States..

Too many average players in the squad..

Dempsey and Allen are the only targets i know that are close to signing..

Looks like the big man will definitely leave and the money will be invested in the squad..

Thoughts please.

Cheers

Macca

What about Ramirez?

Hessle Red?

Thanks Macca for info, do you have any idea of the players that might be leaving. would also like to hear what you think of our potential signings and players leaving

Dempsey is nearly 30 and over rated, Not worth 15m. And Joe Allen is worth nowhere near 15m. We are just wasting money again on over rated players. Borini for 11m? Joke. I thought we would of learned our lesson after wasting over 100m on Coates, Downing, Henderson, Adam and Carroll. Jay YNWA

Who do you see leaving after tour

What 'invested in the squed' means?

Have you heard any update regarding the Ramirez situation seeing as the media are stating he's a target after us dropping our interest in Dempsey?

Andy

Hi Macca thanks for the update always much appreciated, i think every real lfc supporter will agree that too many average players are in our team, Spearing, Aqualani, Adam, Cole should all be moved on, and i hope when you say players leaving these 4 will be top of the list, as for Carroll ive never been convinced he ever wanted to play for LFC i think he was made to go and now wants a return to NUFC which is fair enough i just wish we never wasted 35 mill on him i know all the carroll fans will be on mouthing off but really what has he done for us in terms of goal scoring which he was bought for, good player just not good enough for LFC, as long as a replacement is bought i will be more than happy with that! AJH316

If we can sign those two,

And hope we get around £15-20M for Carroll (don't he's worth it personally)

And reinvest that in another one or two wingers/forwards I think it will be a good summer.

Do you know where Carroll is likely to go?

Judging by his statement last night Newcastle are the only option, and I don't think they're desperate enough to pay 15M+ like West Ham etc.

I don't want us to sell Carroll as i think he will turn into a goal monster for us and he will give us another option on the pitch, especially against teams will tall defenders.

Any idea on who else could be leaving?

Thanks

The Crow.

You keep saying close to signing every time but they haven't signed

Hope we do get rid of the average players ie Doni,Jones,Wilson,Adam, Aquilani,Cole,Downing and Spearing. Would also like to see Carroll leave and get a (wing) forward who can score. Redevon

Hope we get allen but dont need dempsey i think it would be better to invest that bit extra and go for gaston. have you heard any whispers about him coming in ?
johnaldinioh

Peed off that Carroll will be going.. think its a mistake, Unless they are brining in Cavani! Which i doubt.. glad to see the Squad being trimmed.. some good young players can now start to shift up a gear.. This is my team.. no matter who wears the red shirt, if they give 100% ill be behind them all the way.. but gutted to lose Carroll.. Englands number 9! isnt good enough for us?.. Dont get it!

Bye bye spearing adam carroll downing henderson and coates, i wish.

Cheers Macca I agree to many average players I wouldn't lose sleep over losing spearing who shows heart but not good enough Adam is another one he would be great player for a smaller club, I couldnt care less if aquilani goes any idea who you think could be out the door Macca?

Square tomato

28 Jul 2012 13:09:04
Would be sorry to see him go when he was starting to look like the old AC, but if we could get some decent money for him and immediately reinvest it in a player BR thinks would work better than i'm all for it.
i wouldn't be surprised if he comes back to haunt us though.

do you know if that would be a straight up deal or a loan to buy? i don't see any point at all in loaning him out to a rival club for a year without recieving any big money for it!

cheers for your insights Macca. what are your thoughts on it?

28 Jul 2012 13:09:48
If we could get rid of a few average players and replace them with higher quality players than that would obviously be desirable.

I myself would rather see Carroll stay as I have always liked him, but, obviously he is not in Brendans plans. Do you know the reason he is leaving?
JTR

28 Jul 2012 13:10:39
I cant believe that our owners would alow us to take a 15-20 mill loss on Carrol after 18 months unless of course a club is offering a good offer say 25 mill or 20 mill with some player or a buy back clause

28 Jul 2012 13:10:56
Thanks Macca. Sounds like we have a plan and thats most important. YNWA.

So that is another call ed02 gets right. Let's hope is is wrong about the last of the three though.

More than a few hopefully, Need to get rid of Spearing, Shelvey, Adam, Henderson, Downing, Carroll, Aquilani, Cole, Doni, Jones, Coates.

28 Jul 2012 13:30:32
Pretty much as expected with average players being identified. Interesting to hear that there won't be any 2nd chances, sounds very ruthless. Whether this is good or not only time will tell, personally I feel the staff will be able to figure out what's best and not the people behind pc's.

I think Brendan also knows he can't take any chances with hoping players find sudden form, as his neck would be on the line - questions would be asked about his ability to get best from players, he can't be having that at all - his whole image is based on being intelligent.

You can assume facing the chop would be Aqua, Cole, Bellamy (because he wants to play more - not that he's average) Wilson, Spearing, both GK's that aren't Reina, maybe Adam and of course Andy.

Allen and Dempsey seem to be safe options, and will automatically improve what is already here. Allen would be excellent cover for Lucas, and can play in 3 man midfield - no brainer. Just get the price right. Maybe £11m rising to £15m, just as paying £15m in full would point fingers at Hendo deal all over again. Very important in my opinion.

If we can't get Allen for the right price, I think Leroy Fer of Twente would be the best choice here, I like him a lot and could be available at a good price. But I'm sure the relationship with Allen is what can be key to that player becoming even better, and that's fine with me.

Dempsey is interesting, as I would be surprised if we ever sign anyone at that age again. He's peaking at his later years like most American players do, and for £6m-7m would be a great option. That price is important, otherwise I would walk from it. He has a commanding presence, a solid no-nonsense target. He would be my choice too. If that fails, look at Alessio Cerci of Fiorentina, very underated in my opinion and is very intelligent.

But maybe someone with pace is also required, overlapping runs I'm thinking. I would expect another inside forward/winger to arrive, especially if Andy goes, and comments about Sterling not be ready are accurate. I don't have a clue who though, but would like to avoid a Moses/Sinclair option as they are too young and would be under too much criticism and pressure in my opinion. It also might go to their head.

But another LB is needed, otherwise its time for Robinson to step up finally, which I would love to see. Maybe BR will look at a Left wing-back to cover both options, we have to find another young Riise in my opinion.

I'm sure there is main priority on getting good value for money (its a huge issue, whatever way it gets dressed up -- Carroll + £15m for Torres?... cannot get into that situation ever again).

Finally thoughts on Andy off, well it was called the moment Brendan didn't commit on him in that 1st pre-season press conference. As long as there is a good plan for this scenario I would have no problem. Move on as always. It would have to work straight-away though, we got lucky Torres was playing awful otherwise Andy would have been under even more pressure - all not his fault.

Just a throwaway, but if Madrid couldn't offload Kaka (like us with Aqua), and we put forward a loan deal paying 50% wages for 1 season, with a promise to pay £15m if we get CL or something like that. That could give us a False No.9, and huge shirt selling name, and alllow Borini to get plenty of time with Suarez. Would be exciting, he's still got ability. Similar to how Spurs got Adebayor last year, but very unlikely though.

But overall, it sounds like the club have got a plan, and the majority of it makes sense. Getting back in the CL will not come through big foreign name players, but through systems, tactics, team performances and a bit of luck as always. Its a game of football. I've a had good Saturday rant, gotta love Macca and this site.

RC

Are we looking at a replacement for Carroll at the moment! Any idea which players are likely to leave? Dubred

I fear the American owners have perhaps but off more than they can chew. I really hope I am wrong but to compete you have to compete. All I see is Liverpool being used as an advertising brand. To get Liverpool back in Europe we have to spend. Clear out mediocre players and replace with young quality. I believe BR will take us to a new level but I don't think that level is Champions League. VW {Ed002's Note - The owners provided a lot of money for the manager to spend on players last year. It is hard to understand why so many supporters are not grateful to them.}

Apart from Andy I suspect Brad Jones,Aquilani,Jay Spearing and Charlie Adam will be on the move.Obviously Joe Cole is also a possibility but who will pay his mammoth wages. If he stays I can see him getting games in the lesser competitions as he has shown a good attitude and obviously wants to do well but looks a bit below EPL standard at the moment. Although he is not in the USA I also feel Downing will be away.(or is that wishful thinking?)
Above are all pretty obvious really. Maybe a few youngsters will go out on loan for experience

28 Jul 2012 13:33:43
Thanks again Macca. I only hope that selling Andy Carroll doesn't become a big mistake. If B.R believes it is best for the team, then that is fine by me. Can you give us an idea who is going to be surplus to requirements?

Macca does this change the 4 in 4 out?

28 Jul 2012 13:34:44
Macca do you know of any plans to get rid of downing i only ask as i think it would be a mistake.
in the 4 3 3 i think he would fit in perfect on the left hand side would leave him higher up the pitch with more time on the ball.

Hey Macca,
I think we have have too many average players for far too long now. Looking at it I think Cole, Aqualani, Wilson, Jones, Adam, Spearing, Ecclestone, Enrique (Dont be Suprised), Carroll and maybe Downing will all leave.Well that is my view from what ive seen of them. Not all will be replaced but if we signed a LB, forward, Dempsey, Allen and maybe a creative wide player thats all. Do you think they will keep any of the players Ive listed? Things are gonna suprise us I feel and am optimistic with Rodgers/FSG partnership.Once we can reduce our wage bill to be competive in that side of things which we have wasted alot on average players. Keep the info coming mate much appreciated.

ChrisOD

Really Happy reading Macca's Post. We must really start moving on some players. There are so many average players in the Squad its unreal. SPEARING, Adam, Cole, Carroll, Pacheco, Danny wilson, Also there is no point keeping 2 back-up keepers sell atleast 1 or even both if we are going to brimg in the Wolves keeper.

Do you know who these players could be?

cheers

Poldo

Hey Macca, sounds like we have made a great addition in rodgers as we have been screaming out for years for a strong passionate manager to come in and sort out the average players from the liverpool standard players.
Your news to me gives me real joy that our club transformation is already in progress and is bieng done properly i.e playing all players on the recent tour to actually have a real look at them.

The transition has started folks the moment Rodgers walked through the door, a refreshing strong character who isnt affraid of responsibility or working under pressure or letting things get blown out of proportion.

I would love to see what all these negative fans would think if Bill Shankly was brought in as our manager now UNKNOWN and started making changes?
All these trolls would slate him constantly.

I am excited about the changes coming up and cant wait to see whats gonna happen.

Hey guys when Owen left everybody was going mad and everyone thought we were going backwards then later that season we had "Big Ears" for keeps strange things happen in football lets wait and see before throwing our toys out of the pram.

What makes our club great is we all join together as one voice one club.
The sooner we start too support ourselfs the sooner our club will be up there with the greats again.

BR You have my full support.

Mattistuta1

Eds002, I appreciate your comment but it was their decision to sack KD and replace with BR. Surely he should be given the same financial backing. Frustrating as we are being linked with world class players by the press, but we are never going to get them because we don't have the money to spend. VW {Ed002's Note - There are not endless piles of money.}

Macca, thanks for the info.

Where do you see AC going to and can you give a indication as to whom we would get to replace him?

What players do you see being let go once the sqaud returns and will that cash be used to invest in the team or put back to pay debts?

I hope Dempsey and Allen do join but do you see this being an issue for Adam, Henderson and Downing?
Barry

Macca, why is it that carroll has seemingly being made to leave? or surplus to requirement? i just think that with him finally gelling with the team its a shame he wont get a chance under the new gaffer. gotta feelin its gonna come back and bite us on the arse and we'll take a massive loss in transfer money and he'll then be a beast next year! sorry for the long question.
cdo

Thanks Macca for info. I'm glad you cleared one or two things up. I was starting to wonder if all this Carroll leaving stuff was all just a rumour that had snowballed out of control. Obviously Rodgers was clear about it all the players having a price but wasn't sure if any concrete offer or real desire for us to sell

As for too many average players, i could only guess about who you are talking about and speculation will now go through the roof on this site! Don't know if to thank you for that! ;)

Just say on the BBC gossip page that Spurs are in for Allen appearantly. Seriously do Spurs actually have any scouts? They just seem to wait for interest from another club and go, "that player must half-good then" because they can't bid without anyone else being interested.

Jolly Red

I know exactly what you mean its frustrating that they cannot seem to spot a good player of their own accord. They seem to judge their targets on who other clubs in and around the op four are targeting.

How do you know Spurs havnt been interested in him? Obviously other clubs will be looking at Allen, But Rodgers keeps publicly talking about his targets, Sigurdsson 1st and now Allen. Spurs never once publicly talked about Sigurdsson but he signed for them. Rodgers needs to stop talking and just do some work.

Spurs have done far better in transfer market than we have, for several years. i am no spurs fan, but give credit where it is due. they have a competitive squad, we are mid table team. they will finish atleast 3 or 4 places ahead of us this year.

Spurs are a better team/squad than us now. We have no right to go for players based on our history. We havnt won a league in over 20 years. Neither have spurs but they're supporters dont criticise them constantly, they regularly go for champions lge football, better training facilities and can offer more wages. stop living off our history

Spurs supporters don't criticise!! are you for real. I know we have a few whinging gobs***es on here but Spurs fans take the biscuit. Do me a favour.

David

Hi Eds , kind of a stupid question: what "invested in the squad" means? {Ed002's Note - Without seeing it in context I would assume there is some associated measure (e.g. £100M invested in the squad - in terms of the total value of the players).}

I'm not sure if its really old news but just seen an article with the mirror about Rodger's dossier he presented to Henry and co at interview stage. I have heard about it but he explains its contents a little

If you have not read the article please do as (for me at least) it has filled me with more optimism than i had already!

180 pade dossier which Rodgers talks briefly about and he has been working on it for 15 years. He talks about the philosophy behind his ideas and the blue print to success.....no not just kit kat tik tock football!

What i like about what he says is basically that we have an amazing history but that we have not done well lately and we must stabalise before talk about being the best again. For me at least this is great news cos what i do no think we need is unrealistic promises and nonsense about winning titles yet.
If we do then fantastic of course!

Have a read! Its good stuff

Can not believe we spend 40 million on Hendo and Downing but not willing to do the same with G.Ramirez who will have the same impact as Suarez. Us fans can see it clearly, this guy is class! Henry get your finger out please!

40 Million for Ramirez? One free kick at the Olympics has doubled his worth?
ItsNotRocketScience

Who said we are not trying to sign Ramirez?
I understood we were trying very hard.
Also re last Downing and Hendo I must admit I was shocked when we signed Downing as I had watched him for a few years and he always looked very ordinary to me but Hendo had looked a good player at Sunderland and I think he will come good again this season.

Ed, which player looks most likely to join next in your opinion? Thanks. {Ed002's Note - We cannot reasonably say when players will sign, nor the order. Whether Cavani arrives before or after Sanchez is unimportant.}

28 Jul 2012 11:02:28
Opinions/predictions, no sources here.
1)I think we need a replacement left back for Enrique. He has some quality, but his form is currently woeful and we have no backup.
2) If Skrtel wants to go, get a good price and promote Martin Kelly. We still have Coates and Wilson along with other youngsters. We don't need to sign Kjaer. Kelly is a natural centre back plus he has pace and is good on the ball.
3) Carroll (or carrott) has many qualities, but, like Heskey, ball control and retention of possession are lacking. If Rodgers doesn't see him fitting his style of football then there is no point in keeping him.
4) I see Henderson, Downing, Cole and Pacheco all fitting in to Rodgers plans. However, I think Aquilani and Adam need to be moved on.
THE QUAGGAR

If Skrtel goes and Kelly moves to the centre we will need a back up right back too. Plus two more strikers if big Andy leaves.

brendan rodgers tenure gets dafter by the day. presenting 180 page manifesto to the owners he done a lot of crawling to get the job.one season in the premier after swansea players only got one system other managers dont broadcast what system they are going to play and can change according to opposition.what have the owners let us in for.if after half the season has gone and he is doing well i will be first to say i was wrong i sincerely hope so.

spoke to guaranga last night he said we r gonna sign messi ronaldo xavi and iniesta...people need to get a grip....liverpool will not be signing any players on massive transfer fees, they want young players that will be with the club for years...i.e allen 22 and ramirez who is about 20,the only exception might be dempsey but that is a also a marketing tool for fenway sports as he is american, and i for 1 wouldnt mind him......so any rumours u see for massive players at 30 40 million euros r rubbish

Good post..but dont pend 30-40 mill on young players too...thats not a good policy

Swap one big powerful striker for another? i dont see the point in that

Although I do agree they are both big strikers, llorente offers so much more than Carroll

Liverpool need to sort their head out if they're going to let carroll go stupid isn't the word. Why take a massive loss after 18 months the powers that be ain't got a clue if this is so. Oh and I was speaking to my mum who has lived in Spain for past 25 years she has heard that alonso will be back defo next year taking a pay cut to do so. This has come from a season ticket holder at real. Very rich guy who has his own box who is big friends with heirro.

Ask your mum to get me alonsos autograph please ive lived in liverpool the last 28 years and have never met gerrard, rush, fowler etc, so she must have some contacts! As for carroll is he the next ian rush (our best striker bar kenny) no is he as good as torres was eh no how many goals has he scored?? mmmm i dont think they are stupid getting rid i think they were stupid being duped into buying him! ajh 316

Carroll can go both ways:

1) He can be a late bloomer like Didier or Gomez.
2) He can turn out to be a waste of money like the 25 mil midfielder wearing the tablecloth.

So if by selling Carroll we can bring in someone like Ramirez or Muniain then we should take that chance.

Corvin

Quite interesting post but all i could think was 'who is the £25million midfielder with the tablecloth?'

Not quite a banter but I just want to ask a question which I have been pondering on for so long. 'Why do we always sing the praises of Shankly ahead of Bob Paisley? I tot Paisley is our most successful manager(atleast trophy-wise)'. I'd really appreciate it if u guys can help me understand this enigma.

Shankly laid the foundations my friend and Bob worked with him for a long time picking things up and learning. If it weren't for Shanks we would have been nothing, he started it all.

As shankly took as from nothing and laid the foundations to turn liverpool in to one of the biggest teams in the world, he implemented all the tatics at "grass roots" level etc leading paisley to continue on building success he made liverpool fc

Yeah Shanks and Bob were great no Doubt

But never forget the contribution made by Kenny

Yeah mate shanks did the hard work but paisley will always be the most succesful manager for liverpool and its shame that paisley is always been underated not only by liverpool fans even by british in nine years won 28 titles and top of it 3 european trophy which is record for a manager till now his ratio winning title per season is more then 3

Ed can you please post this on both banter an rumours please its out todays echo an thought I'd share it with everyone thanks mate

iverpool FC: How Brendan Rodgers' 180-page manifesto helped convince owners to give him job
Liverpool Echo
IT'S the manifesto which carried Brendan Rodgers into Anfield. Liverpool's owners were already confident they had found the right man for the job prior to holding talks with Rodgers in May. His references had been glowing and they had admired his achievements at Swansea City.
But their belief is his ability to transform the Reds' fortunes was cemented by that initial meeting when the Northern Irishman presented them with a bulging 180-page document.
It was a hugely detailed blueprint for Liverpool's future. It set out his vision and his philosophy. It explained how he works and what was required to put the club back challenging at the top of the English game.
The more principal owner John W Henry and chairman Tom Werner read, the more they were convinced. Plans to appoint a sporting director were shelved as Rodgers was handed total control to put his plans into action.
'I presented to them a document on the culture, philosophy and game plan going forward,' said Rodgers.
'It's a model, a short cut to how I work, the kind of players I want tactically and the personality traits of players. Also my thoughts on the Academy and how we move forward.
'The vision is simple. Firstly, to win the most trophies we can. That's the bigger picture.
'The second is to play attractive, attacking football to win games. The third is to bring through as many of the young players as we possibly can.
'When I became a manager I always wanted to go into a club with a philosophy so it's clear in terms of where everyone is heading. Thankfully at two of my three clubs as manager I've been able to create a one-club mentality and it's been successful.
'I started this (document) over 15 years ago. It's something I have been piecing together for many years and when I became a manager I put it into a format with a philosophy and methodology.'
In Liverpool's opening two friendlies there have already been signs of Rodgers' influence but this is a long-term project he has taken on. The manager doesn't have either the time or the cash this summer to make all the changes that are required.
The 39-year-old took some admiring glances at the depth of Tottenham's squad as the teams trained at Baltimore's M&T Bank Stadium yesterday ahead of today's final game of the Reds' North American tour.
'My single biggest concern for this year is to define a model of play that can entertain the supporters and win games, to build a squad that will allow us to compete in all the competitions,' he said.
'It took Tottenham six transfer windows to put together a squad that could finish in the top four. In the last three years, we've finished sixth, seventh and eighth. My job is improve on that without being disrespectful to anyone who went before me, to get the club back into the top echelons where it has not been for a few years.
'For me football is an art not a science. The only statistic I want to know is how good we have been with the ball. In my cultural upbringing, on my travels, the statistic that interested me was if you were better than your opponent with the football you have a 79% chance of winning the game.
'Basically, you have an eight out of 10 chance of winning, so I've followed that my career. Of course you may lose the ninth or tenth, but my world has been devoted to that.
'It won't always be perfect and you won't always play well, but I would rather control games and dominate games and have that possibility rather than wait for something to happen.
'My world has been about creating rather than waiting. If you wait, you rely on somebody else to make a mistake. If you create you do everything possible to win the game. I'd rather lose a game trying to win it than lose it trying to not get beat.'
While there's excitement and hope among supporters at the start of a new era, Rodgers is keen to ensure there's also a sense of reality.
It's 22 years since the club's last title triumph and over the past two decades it's not just Manchester United who have left Liverpool trailing.
'There are many more teams to knock off the perch now,' said Rodgers.
'This is a club that has won 18 league titles and the ambition is to make sure we are in a position to add a few more. But I know where the club is at this moment and I don't want to be talking too much garbage at the beginning of my time here.
'We need to become competitive before you can even consider (going for the title). It is like getting knocked out of the FA Cup every year in the first or second round but then saying you are going to win it. We have just got to make sure that we stabilise.
'The last couple of years have been traumatic in many ways, on and off the field.
'In order to have success, there has to be some kind of stability and then we can grow. I am not waiting for it. I want us to try and create success and create it as quick as we can.
'I could give you a list of problems but it won't help anything. We have to find a way to go forward and challenge again.
'I've been touched by how supportive everyone has been and the players have been magnificent. I just want to turn that positivity into something good.
'We need a one city, one club mentality. If we don't, if we fail, it will be because of not sticking together and nothing else. If we can stay as one, we have a real chance.'.

Joel

He certainly talks the talk. Good luck Brendon

They can have him for 15 million. I think thats a bit to much he is a good player but 15 million is steep.

If swansea want 15 million, spurs can have allen. add a few million n get ramirez. Allen is a good player, but definitely not worth 15 million, plus he is too similar to henderson.

I am disgusted in the way andy Carroll is being treated at Liverpool and the media. He is not the person who put 35 million price on his head it was Liverpool who did that, the lad clearly wants to stay and for Brendan Rodgers to say he doesn't feature in his plans is an absolute joke. Brendan Rodgers is a young very inexperienced manager and although has done very well at Swansea hasn't really achieved anything else. Liverpool is a massive club and if too much pressure is landed on his shoulders he is the type of person too walk. Rodgers needs to start playing these so called talented youngsters and not bother sending them on loan, put them into the first team, give them games and develop them from there, I really do not see the point on sending players on loan and do not recall the likes of fowler, gerrard, carragher being sent out to lower divisions. Just one more little moan . Jo Allen , Dempsey to Liverpool, come on we can do better than that. Hughesey boy.

When did br say he didnt want him?

Basics of football...is to controll the ball...caroll cant do that.....thats the reason mate

I though BR was the coach of all Coaches

Kinda like the King of Kings

Its a shock to find out he has one year of EPL football management with the swans, so in that its hardly surprising he's going to make mistakes

Please show me where you are quoting Brendan Rogers saying Andy Carroll does not feature in his plans?

I don't think he has said that publicly so I would be interested to see your source for such a comment.

Carroll wants european football yeah right having seen his performance first hand against braga he's best to just settle for the prem and a grand club like west ham
He should be honest and just say he wants to live in Newcastle not London

Which means you didnt see him in Euros...

LiverBird

How was he good in euro`s?

Hi all.
I think lfc should look at loaning players in as we never have been good nd last time I remember us loaning was Anelka nd he was big hit.. sahin perfectly fits into tiki taka style nd if Ryan Babel is available bring him on loan. He was never given chance to play at his best position nd he didn't help himself with being lazy..he loved lfc nd that might spark him back to his potential along with Rodgers guidence...

Yeah sure while were at it we might as well bring back Voronin Riera and dossena, iv always thought these players are world beaters.

Reira not a bad idea,i thought he was great!

Eds, not so much a rumour just a question. with this chevy deal, does it mean we will be having the chevy badge on shirts or just advertisement boards around anfield?
jim {Ed049's Note -the latter}

Will it mean that season ticket holders will get a hefty discount on the cars ;)

cozinoz

We getting Chevvy Chase for the European Vacation games... Fantastic. Go get em Sparky!

I have been told by a VERY good source that no deals will happen untill we get home from america! He also said Skertel wants out asap but Liverpool need to find a replacement! Rodgers wants 25 million for him so he can buy Allen (15 million) & Sinclair (10 million) with the money! And the replacement for Skertel looks to be Kjaer! What do you think Eds? (Dont shoot the messenger) {Ed049's Note - sounds like BS to me.}

What the hell is going on at our club why they just come out and say what's happening instead of all this rubbish people coming on here whinging we've played 2 friendlies let's wait till this season start then make our decisions we havnt had our better mor experienced players doing '' the system'' let's see what they can do!

Liverpool goals this season:

Suarez: 18 goals
Borini: 10 goals
Gerrard: 9 goals
Cole: 8 goals
Bellamy: 6 goals
Downing: 4 goals
Lucas: 4 goals
Adam: 4 goals
Johnson: 3 goals
Agger: 2 goals
Enrique: 1 goal
Coates: 1 goal

70 goals in total

This is quite possibly the most useless post of all...that and how can you say Downing will score more than Coates?! I have seen better finishing from Coates than downing all season and he only played a handful of games!

That being said, if we're playing this game, Anton Ferdinand will score an own goal in a 3-0 victory for us over QPR!

Canadian Red

Don't forget Higuain's 2.4, Ramirez's 6.7 and Allen's 3.14159268 goals. Whatever!! {Ed049's Note - so Allen will score a Pi?}

If Lucas scores 4 goals you will become a very rich man.

BthekingB

You should compare how many goals that SAME team got last year (except Borini). What has suddenly changed to suggest Cole will get 8 and Lucas 4?

Just give it time..u will get more disagree's than the number of goals that liverpool will score..

Pankaz

It would be Charlie Adam at the pies if it's anyone....
ND

Who ate all the pi's? Allen that's who

Andy Carroll apparently stating he would consider a loan to another English club in Europe..... Have Newcastle finally got there way:.......

Is that as opposed to the English clubs outside Europe?

What about English clubs outside of Europe? Surely he has to give one of those a chance..

BthekingB

I believe he should go to a European club on loan...It will open his eyes to a whole new way of playing ....
Will be great for him in the long run....

But my first preference will be to keep him

Corral will stay all the talk of him being sold is to take the pressure of him and his 35m price tag

How does all the talk of him getting sold is going to help him??

27 Jul 2012 21:46:36
The opening ceremony of the Olympic games cost £35 million to do......
I'd rather have andy Carroll.
FowlerisGod

It was 26 million so your opinion is mute

It was 27 million.
Skurks

Its 'moot' not mute.

Whatever, it was meant to be humour. Something some people lack. I did read 35 tho

Hi Eds, it's all over the press that we're close to securing the deal for Ramirez.
Do they have a clue or they're just taking a guess? {Ed001's Note - as far as I am aware, they are just guessing based on knowing our interest. They might well guess right, but still just a guess, as our almost every other story in the press.}

27 Jul 2012 19:02:16
Hello Eds, i live in Malta and have supported LFC for most of my life, there is a lot of rumours that we will be bidding 16.7m on Ramirez and offloading Carrol to either Newcastle or West Ham, also would you agree with me that Joe Allen is not worth 15m and Ramirez is a better option for quality in the midfield?
Thankyou
{Ed001's Note - no I wouldn't, I have not seen enough of either to be convinced one way or the other about them.}
