Ed or anyone can anyone explain to me what is it with Studge? Is he just a fairy and doesn't like to rough it or is it a lot of bad luck the lad is talented and love him to be fit for at least half he's not even fit for a quater at the moment.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - he is an explosive sprinter that will always suffer niggles from that at the best of times, but it is just worse because he is coming back from a bad injury. It took Lucas over a year to return to full fitness after his long injury. We just need to give him time.}

28 Dec 2015 21:39:33
Thanks for the reply ed makes sense maybe we should let him get it together for the rest of the season maybe bring a youth through to cover for firmino benteke and origi.

{Ed001's Note - to be honest, we are always going to need to be careful with him due to his pace.}

28 Dec 2015 21:44:57
Watch the way he shoots too, his body position is very narrow, all the power comes from the quads and the extension of the leg, whereas others use more of a swinging action, must put a lot of strain on he muscles and ligaments.

{Ed001's Note - good point.}

28 Dec 2015 21:57:08
Noncence Ed, I tried that Sturridge 'dance' celebration drunk, and I swear I've not got off the couch since mate.
It's all down to that stuff.

{Ed001's Note - that's just old age mate.}

28 Dec 2015 19:39:58

Lol yes. autocorrect s**** big time. 😜.

Been following this site for about 6 years without getting involved
I would like to say love all the ed's for there top work and knowledge and to the fans that make this site what it is (superb)
My first post is not really about Liverpool but just watching Everton v Stoke and that kid Barkley is a player that I think would cost money and wages but he is as good as Steve g got everything what do u all think.

Believable4 Unbelievable12

28 Dec 2015 18:25:34
Very over rated player he always takes too many touches and over runs the ball.

28 Dec 2015 20:32:38
Good but would cost far too much money to make it a sensible transfer.

28 Dec 2015 17:21:36
He needs consistency Into his game. The only drawback I found was his defensive vulnerability pretty much like Gerrard. But he is good. Play him as the advance midfielder and you get the Gerrard of 2008/ 09.

29 Dec 2015 10:43:36
Just a younger lallana with higher potential.

Some people might think that Klopp is taking a risk on putting sturridge return on hold and as he said he is raring to go klopp made a really good point and said he said that last time and go injured and i think he's right to do this. But him on the bench tho and give him minutes or if we do need him put him on like a super sub but we do need to becareful as we all know how fargile he can be.

Believable2 Unbelievable1

28 Dec 2015 15:12:48
Or leave him to train for a couple more weeks to build his fitness etc. or play him he gets injured then read the people on here saying he's a waste and we should get rid because he's injured all the time!

28 Dec 2015 15:17:03
yeah but. he will prob get injured in training.

28 Dec 2015 15:46:52
Studge should keep it shut and do as he`s told. The same guy who`s had a reputation for being a softie is in no place to say when he gets to play or not. We need him for the business end of the season so we are in no hurry to rush him back.

28 Dec 2015 22:06:27
Yo fellow reds.

Long time reader, first time poster.
Love this site.

It's obviously hard from Sturridge' position. Constantly getting minor injuries is bound to take its toll mentally. With the amount of mindless abuse he gets from fans/ critics/ pundits for his injuries maybe his comments are just his way of pointing out that 'look. I'm back, I'm fit', nothing more, nothing less.

28 Dec 2015 12:13:47
Hey Eds, question for you.

When we scout a player do we inform there club of who and when we are scouting them?

Is it plausible that due to information leaks leading to rumours or reports of us scouting said player we would actually mention a different player we are looking at.

I know it must sound ridiculous but in the world of football it wouldn't surprise me if a scout did this, and for example said we are here to watch deeney when in fact we are watching Ighalo.

Banter please Eds, as I'd like to see and hear other posters opinions and thoughts on it.

Cheers Lads.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Scouts attending games will request seats from the home team but will not normally mention the player or players they are interested in - but generally it is fairly well known. Nobody cares about smokescreens and who other clubs are scouting.}

28 Dec 2015 11:55:14
Is there a reason why we're playing Wednesday? Don't get me wrong, it's nice to have a more even break between the three games, but seems a little random how ten teams play Boxing Day then most today and just our game Wednesday and city Tuesday.

{Ed002's Note - Television.}

28 Dec 2015 10:17:53
On boxing day in the pub after the game I was asked a couple of footy questions, let's see if any of you or the ed's ( WITHOUT THE AID OF GOOGLE) can do better than me, I got the answers in the end but after a few clues.

(1)Name the player who is currently still playing who has played with shearer Bellamy berbatov Saha Drogba and kezman.

(2)Name 7 argentine players who have a premier league winners medal.

Now if you've heard either of these questions before, do me a favour and don't give away the answers. Thought I'd pass these questions on as they burnt my head out so as a late Christmas present I'd pass them on and burn some of your heads out. ( banter if that's OK eds as it receives more traffic as you know) cheers.

1.duff
2.aguero, zabelatta, veron, heinze, Crespo, demichelis and tevez.

28 Dec 2015 10:59:16
Pretty sure duff hasn't played with saha. Not sure with bellay either.

28 Dec 2015 11:00:56
And he just retired so is not still playing. Sorry gmil.

28 Dec 2015 11:04:47
1. I would guess Scott Parker?

28 Dec 2015 11:39:54
1. friedel.

28 Dec 2015 10:35:22
Well i'm going to start with Zabaletta and Tevez. Help!

28 Dec 2015 12:06:05
Duff and Saha at Fulham with Berbie, Shearer and Bellamy at Blackburn and Drogba and Kezman at Chelsea?

28 Dec 2015 12:14:29
Gotta be scotty p! Can't be friedel I reckon he played with less than half haha.

28 Dec 2015 12:36:09
Parker.

28 Dec 2015 14:07:01
Saha left fulham way before duff joined.

28 Dec 2015 23:09:01
Didn't Duff and Saha play for Everton?

30 Dec 2015 00:38:07
Come on Waro, put us out of our misery!

28 Dec 2015 10:00:03
Good morning Eds

Whats your take on the Sturridge situation please. He has said himself he is fit and raring to go but Klopp has said he is on a training regime and could be 7,9,10 days away and hasn't put a time on his return.

Just seems a bit strange to me and almost like Klopp is trying to prove a point to him. Surely if the player is fit and training he might be considered to play on Wednesday as he's our best goal threat?

Believable0 Unbelievable3

28 Dec 2015 10:22:37
It's really not as simple as that. Klopps just trying to keep him fit for longer than a game at a time,

{Ed002's Note - And players do not decide when they are ready to play.}

28 Dec 2015 10:44:12
Plus we need to try something different with him. Otherwise it will always be one game in then out for 3 or 4. Last few times, I think Sturridge has pushed his way back too quickly.

28 Dec 2015 11:02:42
I do agree chaps. Just frustrating i guess as he has so much tallent and is our best goal threat. Guess were just left with Benteke for the time being.

28 Dec 2015 11:23:09
I agree with Klopp. He'd play, get injured, be out for another 12 week.
We should be making him train gradually.

28 Dec 2015 11:28:56
It's not just about Benteke though!
There is another 9 players who should be looking to score goals as well!
Yes Benteke is our only fit forward but others need to chip in too.

28 Dec 2015 11:44:14
I understand where Klopp is coming from, he wants to avoid a scenario like with Kompany for City on Sat, and wants to have Sturridge fit for longer term. But I think he is wrong on that. Sturridge injuries are quite randon and not a result of games overload. They just happen, most of them actually during training not games. So the principle with him should be IMO play him when he is fit because you never know when he is injured again and no point trying to control it. And especially now when Origi is injured we should use him if he is fit.

{Ed002's Note - I think it would be a very dangerous and particularly stupid game to play if you are suggesting that Liverpool are going to start to move to a paradigm that allows players to declare themselves fit for games.}

28 Dec 2015 12:39:15
Surely the medical staff and the physio team have a rehabilitation plan for a player when they pick up an injury.
Then the player has to demonstrate a level of fitness in training, not one training session. Then the manager decides if he's ready to play in that particular game. Players are not usually medically qualified (notable exception - Socrates 😎)

If Sturridge thinks he's fit, good on him, shows he might have his mental fitness in shape. The club is unlikely to take an uncalculated risk on a player.

28 Dec 2015 13:14:54
Of course it should be Klopp's decision, not Sturridge, I just think Klopp's logic is wrong about this one.

28 Dec 2015 13:39:00
Fanobip, you are coming across as a bit of a wally.

Claiming to have a better view on a players fitness the a manager! Really?!

Engage your brain before your keyboard.

28 Dec 2015 14:16:11
The question is not if Sturridge is fit or not, Klopp himself admitted he is fit but he wants him to do what he calls pre-season, so keep on training and not play to reduce the possibility of future injuries. Which I think is a very good approach with most players, not with Sturridge.

28 Dec 2015 15:07:56
I think the same thing has been happening at Arsenal with Sanchez. He's been declaring himself fit to play for a while now. but Wengers had none of it.
It's good that players actually want to play but it's best left to the medical people to decide when .

28 Dec 2015 15:50:19
Only Klopp decides when a player is fit to play because there`s a diff between being fit and being match fit. Studge is not match fit hence, won`t play until klopp feels he can play multiple games in a row. Is that so hard to understand?

28 Dec 2015 15:50:19

28 Dec 2015 09:59:47
Not posted for a while, but felt compelled to respond to Mike g's posts further down the page, you should quit while your behind mate, couthinho has poor movement ahead of him or none at all, he's looking for a runner to slip in but when there's nobody there for him he's forced to check back and lay the ball off or shoot from distance because there's nothing else on for him, if he had even one player on his wavelength then he would top the assist stats and we would have a 30 goal a season striker and you recommend selling him. HOW ABOUT NOOOOOO YOU CRAZY DUTCH GOUDA! ( Austin powers, just in case somebody accuses me of xenophobia or something ridiculous that happens on these pages)

Why don't you cool your jets Mike, let klopp identify players which will make couthinho jump from potentially world class to world class, just think before you post lad.

28 Dec 2015 11:56:02
hi waro I get wat your saying I do and like I said in my posts I think he can be great but at this time to inconsistent at the moment that's all I hate people having ago at players yet there fav players are immune to critism and your point that there is no runners is the same for firmino and lalana so that's why I pointed out that coutinho hasn't done anything for a while either. and I said if selling helps klopp fine if he has money then keep him because hopefully in time he will mature more and be that 7/ 8 great games out of ten player cheers.

28 Dec 2015 14:14:38
Define Coutinho hasn't done anything for a while?

Do you mean score a wonder goal' if so you're lucky if you get one let alone 2 a season.

If it's an assist or through ball that takes out two players then that is reliant on someone making that run - not just any run; other players also need to know when to hold take the defenders away etc. to create space - Coutinho is at his best when that happens and it's not happening at the moment and why he is getting criticised (unfairly)

28 Dec 2015 00:46:23
I would like to pose a question to Ed01, if you're around. How would you assess Henderson, in terms of his performance currently and overall, and the potential he might have?

I was one of many who thought that he will be one of the flops, but the more me and my wife watch him play, the more we are amazed with him. He didn't score lots, or assist, but its the way he runs around, shouts, passes that made us feel that "wow, this guy is good".

Thanks Ed.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - I love Hendo, he is what Milner wishes he was, though he has far more potential than he has yet shown. He has the vision to see a player in space and the range of passing to reach them with a 50yard pass. His late runs into the box are excellent, but he lacks composure when he gets there, which is why he does not score enough. That is a major weakness in his game.

His workrate is among the best, though I wish he would make more tackles, as he showed against Leicester City at the weekend that he really can tackle. Usually he settles for jockeying a player and looking to force them into a mistake, but he needs to be more physical, to impose himself by tackling more. His physicality, despite his workrate, constant running etc, is one of his other weaknesses, though not a major one. It is just that he does not scare opponents, they do not fear facing up to him and he could do with adding that.

He is quick and has excellent technique, it is very rare the ball bounces off him. He can cross as well, when he does end up with the ball in wide areas, you know he is capable of putting a decent ball in, if only we had someone attacking them when it happens! He is also excellent at man to man marking on setpieces, despite always being up against a much taller man. Personally though, I feel he would be better at taking the front post role that John Barnes did so well for us for years.}

28 Dec 2015 06:05:07
Really, the guy has such a loving personality. and I wish him all the luck in life. And I am certain he will in a year or two be in the top 5 midfielders of the PL (if he is not already) . oh so much I love him.

28 Dec 2015 08:19:00
Thanks Ed.

{Ed001's Note - you are welcome mate.}

28 Dec 2015 09:22:25
Il put my hand up and say I was no fan as I thought he was out of position a lot but his work rate and attitude says everything about him I hope he now gets a good string of games going and powers Liverpool forward because he has Gerard's attitude and like gerrard he wants to win trophies for Liverpool.

28 Dec 2015 11:31:38
I remember John Barnes - great leap and an excellent header (er) of the the ball!

28 Dec 2015 11:58:44
Think back to season 13/ 14, that run we went on that nearly got us the choccys. Most LFC fans thought he was the most important player and it was him receiving the red against Man City that hurt us, and I agree, he was phenomenal in that period. Since then he has suffered injurys and his foot has been giving him hell. A fully fit, at the top of his game Hendo is easily first name on the sheet. Now though he is showing more to his game, deffs not as good right now, but some of his passes and worldys, some of the tackles are sublime. Come the start of next season I wouldn't be surprised if he starts hitting stevie levels of performances and gets the same love and adoration stevie had.

28 Dec 2015 12:15:35
Diego Costa was scared of hendo ;)

28 Dec 2015 11:13:07
Edd001. I think would become a better midfielder alongside a top drawer midfielder. Imagine if he was playing alongside a young alonso.

{Ed001's Note - anyone would be better for playing alongside Xabi.}

28 Dec 2015 13:06:37
Edd001. i love hendo myself and agree with more confidence he can get near gerrard (with a more teammate philosophy about him) . But would you say he doesn't get forward quite enough because he feels to much responsibility having the captincy and not wanting to get caught out of position. Would Can help this is they can exchange positions more redily! don't claim to be an expert just curious!? Cheers.

{Ed001's Note - no, usually he gets forward enough, in the last game he played the holding role. The problem is he is not clinical enough when he gets forward, rather than not getting forward enough.}

28 Dec 2015 13:43:11
Ok, Ed001, I have a big ask, but it is Christmas! As a blog idea, could you compare the relative strengths and weakness of Hendo (including potential so shooting may be 6 now, but potential of 8, for example) in your view?

Would really appreciate it mate as I for one feels that Hendo has it in his armoury to get close to the greatness of Stevie G.

{Ed001's Note - I have added that to my to do list mate, will do that as soon as I can get to it.}

28 Dec 2015 20:08:04
Thanks mate, meant to say Hendo compared to Gerrard in his prime - 2005-2010 when I thought he was the best midfielder in world football, or at least top 3.

{Ed001's Note - have added that to the to do list entry. I just c'n'p the questions there and go through them, so it could be a while sorry.}

28 Dec 2015 21:34:45
No worries mate, I look forward to it whenever!

Z.

{Ed001's Note - cheers mate.}

27 Dec 2015 23:40:04
Hi Ed001, I was just wondering how you thought Benteke played on Saturday?
I look forward to hearing your response and I value it highly.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - you really don't want to know, because he was a statue, other than his goal, and I don't want to moan!}

28 Dec 2015 08:36:23
He came out and said yesterday that he will 'run more for his team mates'. We can only hope that he will do this!

28 Dec 2015 09:04:08
How do you compare his performances of yesterday and at the beginning of the campaign Ed01? i think he has improved with his movement, albeit no where near where it should be.

{Ed001's Note - I did not see any change personally, hence why Lallana was balling him out. All he needs to do is move and he will be a great striker, it is not much to ask. He has the pace, power and technique to be special.}

28 Dec 2015 11:07:31
haha i said the same thing to my mate. Even for the goal he was standing still. He had to stretch to get his toe on it. I think 80 percent of the reason he doesn't move is because he just doesn't read the game well and when he does run it just looks like he's thinking
"hey guys look, i'm running! wonder what the miss's is cooking tonight, mmmmmmm". he doesn't do much without the ball. just someone to hit the ball up to.

28 Dec 2015 12:07:58
There was a point in the game where we were breaking forward and it might have been Moreno putting the ball into the box and Benteke was the last of 4 players to arrive, it had gone out of play before he actually entered the box. When 3 midfielders are beating u to crosses in the box there is a massive problem, so where does the problem lie, is it laziness that makes him statuesque, is it not having the intelligence to anticipate what is about to happen, is it attitude and he can't be bothered, is it just not part of his footballing repertoire to make those runs. Can it be solved? will it be solved? We will know in 5 months, what we know right now is we can't and or won't change our style dramatically to suit him. Can be leathal in front of goal with the right style but if it's not our style and he is better off somewhere else, and to be honest I'd prefer for him to adapt to us and stay as he is our only big boy forward and could be massive for us.

28 Dec 2015 12:17:05
I know he scored by holding his run and making space, but a few times he tried that, and the ball was crossed and he wasn't around. He should be busting a gut to be in the six yard box and challenging defenders and the smaller lest physical players should be around the top of the box. He's trying to hard to be clever, when he should just go into beast mode.
