Use our rumours form to send us liverpool transfer rumours.

28 Dec 2012 23:41:03
When asked about the possibility of returning to Anfield to manage LFC next season Rafa said "You never know what will happen in football" So he never ruled himself out if the post came vacant!

Stop living in the past and support our manager

Rafa would come back to liverpool if he is not at Chelsea and fsg contacted him. He said he was suprised he wasn't even considered because he's liverpool through and through. He knows exactly what liverpool need. I for one wanted him back when daglish got sacked. Rogers is now manager and ill back him. No more 'time to implement my style excuse' there are thousands of examples I could give you of managers coming in straight away and getting it tactically right consistently throughout a season. There has been no such thing just yet at lfc. Lets hope January transfers are the correct ones. I'm happy with sturridge but we need another forward.

Please enlighten us, who has come strsight in and got it right, don't say pardew look at the state of newcastle now. Don't say laudrup or clarke they haven't sustained their success. The only example from england that i ca think of was redknapp at spurs and at a push di matteo at chelsea who was unfairly sacked and in my view would've sustained chelseas great form.

Wenger and Mourinho both came to English football and got it right straight away

Maybe as Rodgers is building a squad that is very thin Hodgson and Kenny had likes of Torres Miereles Kuyt Maxi etc. Rodgers has teenagers.
Yes Kenny maybe deserved another season but just cuz Kenny never got a chance doesn't mean Rodgers shoudnt. 2 wrongs don't make a right.

Anyway if u sack Rodgers your worse off. Who would u get?
Guardiola, Mourinho or even Klopp. These guys wouldn't even think twice about joining us. No chance.
Rafa? Lol yh they guy did some good things but some awful things too. Playing matches for draw instead going attack, rotation, SELLING ALONSO, and he was the one that dropped us to 7th.

Fact is wether u like or dislike Rodgers u have to understand that backing him is the best option because sacking him would destroy us.

F5.

Agreed, We are not getting any top manager, BR is FSG choice so deal with it. Like the poster above said, he as teenagers. KK got the sack so get over it, i am sure theres more too it, but we will never know. Has for Rafa he has shown he's true colours!
Rodgers got stitch in last summers transfer window, he has limited funds in January, so only next summer can he show he worth with signings. We need to get shot of some of the current players, not just Cole etc but another 2-3. So judge him after next summers window, give him at least until this time next year before casting doubt. I am sure FSG are.

Lee73

Get lost Rodgers. Con man !

He did had his summer window and he bought borini& Allen £ 26 mil and now 18 mil on sturrige&borini, that's £44mil what Moore does he wont? Has he ever built a team? Eds do you know which player BR bought at Swansea?

He had half a window. Even at that it isn't enough to build a teaam.

These comments are fundamentally flawed when you don't take into account the massive difference in wage packages.

Hello to every single Liverpool Fan.First of all remember that:every single post here is writen by a person who cares about his beloved club.Even when is wrong, so we must stick togheter and share our opinions.
To al who can say we must be patient , we need time, he is young and so on i tell them is been most then 22 years of a last title. How many time we can wait?Look at Nottingham , great club, 2 Champions Cup and were is he now and for long time?Patient is a virtue but not in football this days.Outhere is a world with so many hungry wolfs who can't wait to exploite our wicknes.who was Chelsea 8 years ago, City 4 years ago, Tottenham ?Nobody. Now they make joke about us.Why?Because we are so divided. When we stick togheter we change Hodgson, we change Hicks and Gilette. But we must understand some things.
FSG HAVE NO FAULT, Why?Because they have spend in two years 150 mil pounds.Only fault is their policy for the club.Buy young players and after what?Sell it?If that is true they must go.We are not West Ham, Newcastle or other team who canot generate money from other sources than selling players. And the biggest mistake is to appoint the wrong managers.
Players? No, because before when arrive at Liverpool they are doing great, Why?Because they all play for middle tab teams with no presure, no future. They don't mind if lose one game or two in a row. This the mentality of a mid table team. Also most of them play out of positions:Suso in wing, Shelvey to in front (i see him as defensive midfielder because is strong and is no affraid to put his foot on the ball and no so tehnical, Sahin is to in front , he said his position is defensive midfielder Alonso type , Gerrard to far from Suarez and his best years was a second striker do you remember, Allen is to fragile for defensive midfielder and at Swansea he play in front of the middle park, Lucas is also to fragile and he never tackle and never put a pass more then 15 yards. And we we came to Brendan Rogers.
Who is BR ?A manager who win nothing and who coach a promoted team.Remember when SAF came to Man Utd he won Cup of Cups with Aberdeen and the english teams not in european cups so that he have the time , no presure like this days when you are not in European cups you dont exist. And when in formations only three non english players alloud. Now he has Rooney, RVP, Hernandez, Wellbeck and he wants to buy who?Levandowsky. Why?Because he knows he must score first, he never be satisfied with a draw.Thats a winning mentality wich BR dont have.He never say that this year we dont have a squad to win EPL.I HATE THE GUY but this is a champion mentality.Kenny do what he feel he is wright but to much time outside the football coaching. But Hodgson and BR only coach second hand teams with second hand mentality. No mention Inter for Hodgson because he do nothing there.
We need a world class coach because he knows how to do it.Look at Rafa Benitez.Until he arrived at Chelsea Torres score nothing and now after such short time Torres is almost the player who used to be.Why is not the same?Because he will never love Chelsea and he is the type of the player who wants to play for club wich love and Chelsea is a club of mercenaries. Why he left?Because Rafa left, Mascherano left and because he knows about policy of FSG.Young players and after sold when they grow.Whit this kind a policy a club never win nothing.
FSG have also fault for choosing the wrong manager. Some of you said what great coach will want to manage Liverpool.I will name just a few from present and from last year:Benitez, Van Gaal, Rijkaard, Redknap, Pellegrini from Malaga, Hidink, Capello. But we go after Martinez, Hodgson and Rogers.
So as a conclusion only man who has a fault indeed is Brendan Rodgers who knows he is not up to this job and no resign because is to proud to admit and because he wants to buy average players like Allen, Borini, Sturridge, Di Santo, Butland with stupid amount of money.By the way who is Butland?A, a goalkeeper from a Championship team when he can buy Lloris , national goalkeeper of France, with 10 mil pounds. But we can force him to do it.Whit that kind of money he must buy Podolsky, M'Villa, Holtby, Drexler, Higuain(with 20 mil we can buy him), Wan der Wiel.
Sorry for my english,
Mircea

And you are the reason why anfield is silent every game. Miserable, complaining people like you who won't give anyone a chance. How are people meant to get prestige if they get sacked or sold before they even have a chance to prove themselves.

To the no name poster who replied to Mircea... the reason why Anfield is sooo silent is because muggins like yourselves are going there and cant be bothered to sing unless we are winning. I used to live in the UK and when I went to the games I would sing my heart out every minute of the game... because I was the 12th man... because I wasnt lazy like most of the current Liverpool players that we slag off every day. We complain about the players and managers but it is our fans that should be ashamed with all the moaning and lack of supporting. Mircea has an opinion which he is entitled to.... He is upset like most fellow supporters and wants to share his view. He has loads of valid points but it doesnt mean he doesnt support our club any less than you.

Slowpoke

I believe the reason match days are so silent these days is the day-trippers.

People who don't go week in week out.

I'm not saying we should get rid of them, just pointing out that I think that's the reason we're so quiet these days.

This transfer window, the likes of Sturridge and Ince will be bought with Cole to be sold as they don't want his giant wages on the books. Butland is also going to be bought and be put in a few fa cup games so that he can get some more experience. Reina will stay and we will see what happens in the summer. Most likely after Butland comes, Jones or Doni will leave.
In: Sutrridge, Ince and most likely Butland
Out: Cole and one of Doni or Jones
Brendan says our spending spree will come in the summer
Don't get on his case, he does not have much to work with
YNWA

He has plenty to work with he has young lads playing and scoring in the under21 and where crying out for lads to score yet he wont give these lads a look in ray

Jones just signed a new contract

28 Dec 2012 23:35:57
Getting on a manager's case doesn't start and stop with transfer dealings.

I'm impressed BR has brought out a potential star in Sterling and got some game time into Suso, but I'm upset he can't find consistancy in a squad that has players that the WBA's, Everton's and Stoke's of the world can only dream of.

I understood the drilling of his philosophy into the team for the opening of the season - now I want to see subtle plan B's and C's coming into play for the exceptional test's the EPL throws up.

Barca would probably struggle at Stoke on a cold December night on a waterlogged pitch playing one and two touch - but I'd expect them to change their plan accordingly - we never seem to.

28 Dec 2012 22:26:19
Why does Rodgers deserve any more support than our last 2 managers?

If anyone can answer me that I'll be glad to change my position, but so far no-one can give me a reason why Rodgers deserves special treatment compared with Kenny or Hodgson.

Because the board screwed him When they let Andy Carrol go and did not let him make the signings he agreed to let Carrol go for. How s that?. He kept his mouth shut but that is what happened. We have been short of player and struggled for that reason because of the board

^ Coz it's his first big job!

The football played under Hodgson was shocking and the players he bought were not what was required. He was overwhelmed by the job. He had to go.

Kenny was appointed by fan power. The owners did not want Kenny but saw him as a stop gap and as soon as the results started dropping he was off.

Brendan has been hired and given a remit of use the youth, reduce the wage bill a bit or try and get the high earners sitting on the bench to start earning their wages. He has a long term plan and the football we are playing is the way of the future. He is a young manager with a vision that will be achieved with the proper backing and time to do it.

Gazza

Cause nobody gave them support and look where that got us!
JJ

Kenny got 18 months and only got 18 points in his last 19 games, Maxi Kuyt and Bellamy also left LFC cos they didn't get played in the league games by Kenny but they were the main reason we got to 2 cup finals. Roy - Poulson, konchesky Cole brought in and cost a fortune in wages. BR deserves another 12 month's to show he has improved the team with all the young players he has brought into the team as long as we don't get dragged any further down the league. The club is now in a much better position off the field we need to improve on it now. I think the summer will be a true reflection of where FSG want to take the club they will have to back BR if they want to get back to the top end of the table.

Red1

Because he hasn't blow a fortune on mediocre players and he appears sincere and media friendly. In addition it is clear to see what he trying to achieve on the pitch. He has only had one window to shape his team and in my view is going in the right direction. Stick with him, the eventual success will be worth the short term pain!

Because this is the first time a whole structure is being put in place since Shankly and whilst Rodgers may not be the right man the club shouldn't get rid in the middle of the transformation

Because we can't keep chucking managers away. Kenny and Hodgson don't have enough time to build a squad as let's face it.. they are too old. Rodgers is young and is very good at coaching young players which is GOOD FOR THE FUTURE. Just relax and be patient with the freaking manager FOR ONCE.

BthekingB

Can you explain to me what the 'special' treatment BR is alleged to be having that KK was denied?
An extra hob nob with his morning coffee maybe?

BigBadBen

At least give him the time that kenny got simple.
RB

Maybe as Rodgers is building a squad that is very thin Hodgson and Kenny had likes of Torres Miereles Kuyt Maxi etc. Rodgers has teenagers.

F5.

Hes the future of our club. support him. support our club. simple!!

KK HAD 18 months, Maxi, Bellers, Kuyt, Carroll. Plus apx. 100M spent on squad.
By your reconing, we should have to give BR another 12 months, , , , right?

When Rodgers finishes a season 8th on 52 points with that backing, then it might be a fair comparison.

Who are you and why do you think that anyone should answer to you?
DM2012

Because he is the manager and its about time we stick with one and a long term plan, KD got support but failed in terms of resources he had and Roy said bad things about the Kop and Daniel Agger in interviews

BR is doing a decent job considering he has no kuyt no maxi no bellamy no torres no meireles, promoted youth players, only has 1 fit striker, only been able to play 1 of his signings and out of position covering for lucas, his other signing borini has been injured

Hes alsl been unlucky with 2 disallowed match winning goals against everton and swansea = 4 points which wouldve meant 4 points of top 4 right now

He'a only has 1 transfer window and less funds, and he even said himself. It will tale atleast 3 windows to get the team how he wants it

Must also remember this group of players have finished midtable for 3 seasons prior to BR so maybe we should stop blaming the managers

BR is also young and will make mistakes, who doesnt?

But we just need to give him a fair chance, out of the last 20 some years we've only made a title challenge twice so how about we fully support BR

Its only half a season, KD started well then was on a downward spiral where as we seem to be getting better albeit the team is looking tired and we beed more quality in depth

Plus mourinho, klopp, guardiola probably wont want to take over liverpool as it is probably the hardest job in football

Reason being: low budgets, demanding fans, mid table team (currently)...unless the manager is KD or Rafa the fans are quick to jump on managers backs

Which will eventually be our downfall

Lets not let it come to that eh?

Over Roy, long term vision and footballing philosophy.

Over Kenny, jury is still out....

29 Dec 2012 00:17:10
Hey mr smug is back, your words not mine. Were you been since weds shak? Under the stairs like harry potter? Don't come on here givin it the big propaganda speech when you have been awol since the stoke game, were had we won you would have told us all how right you are and how wrong we are, if you boast expect a reaction soft lad.

Waro

Because people have realised something that you have quite clearly not been able to see the light on. People want to give Brendan Rodgers support because they know what happened last time they didn't support a manager and thought that they knew better than them.

Shak rogers is useless he let kuyt and co go he let carrol go before replacing him wont even recall him wat a good plan b he would be but no will just play this sht passind back and sideways stuff at snails pace i really think qpr will urn us over and if that does happen he has to go simples

grego

Waro its almost as if your happy when we lose.

Can u guys immagine what maxi rodriguez would have done to our team this year. Hé was so cynical infront of goal.

I miss him

- EmilDenmark

He really was clinical - 17 goals in 73 appearances - not exactly clinical, especially when you realise that seven of those goals came in three consecutive matches!
DM2012

Or Bellamy, even Kuyt, we won't have lost so many as we have done with Kuyt in the side.

Keith

Kuyt was rubbish the last season. Ran around, couldnt control the ball. Headless chicken

I only miss bellamy to be honest.

How many times against Stoke were we caught playing pat a cake football close to our own area? On numerous occasions panic set in because none of the lads were willing to put their foot through it to clear their line. Players need to be given the freedom to decide on the best approach for the phase of play they are in not feel constrained by an edict about how they will play the game.

To make matters worse we don't have a plan B. If our lightweight midfield playing one touch football in non-threatening areas of the field and a tricky mobile striker doesn't work we can't change the approach just the personnel. We can't bring on a tough tackling no nonsense midfield enforcer and a strong, heavy, well built, tall striker to rough up opposition's defenders and provide a different option. We are far too predictable and easy to play against. We are making poor sides look like world beaters because they've worked out how to play us. Sturridge and Ince are I'm afraid, more of the same. I think both of them will help but they alone are not the answer.

Brendan needs to lighten up on his philosophy and allow the players a little more freedom to choose the right option and in January we need to invest some money in a couple of strong battle scarred players to provide more strength and muscle. If we don't do this then a place in the bottom half is all we have toi llok forward to.

Stoke didnt just beat us, they thumped us all over the park!

Dont you just love it when we have 70% of the ball, yet our goal comes from an up and over!!

Our problem is the lack of intensity. Watch how everyone only takes one or two touches of the ball when we play agaist your citys', uniteds' and chelseas' then when we play against you stokes' and sunderlands' etc. we take far too much out of the ball, particuularly in midfield.
derryred

The problem is the players more worried about sitting dwn after the game wile br picks faults about his philosophy an the way he wants 2 play and there forgetting the basics which is common sense an basic instincts. If it's not going 2 plan change your plan Lfc fazak

28 Dec 2012 22:06:07
Sturridge, ince and possibly butland would be a good January! Add will Hughes in the summer and sahin and that would be great. Can't see holtby or eriksen wanting to sign unless we were in champions league. Future looks bright so keep the faith
Jon h

28 Dec 2012 21:58:42
Tello buy out clause £8.1m
Llorente potentially £5.7m (the amount of Juve's second bid)
Lampard ...potentially free transfer but wages of 100k

These would really add some value in second half of the season and would add to the goals too

28 Dec 2012 21:51:40
Not sure if we will get Butland but if we are to then we need to do it fast. About 5 prem clubs are looking to make a offer for him including everton. The owner has said himself that he needs the money to keep the club afloat and will accept 6 million. He is young and gonna be one of the best keepers. buy him.

28 Dec 2012 21:48:10
lewis Holtby wont renew his contract with Schalke and leave at the end of the season on a free. Would be unbelievable if we got him end of season, young and got talent.

28 Dec 2012 21:47:12
Franco Di Santo will NOT be joining Liverpool. He said it himself on twitter. Thank God

28 Dec 2012 21:45:01
hi eds,
was just wondering is there much behind these lampard links and where they came from? {Ed052's Note - it came from Sparky. No truth.

28 Dec 2012 21:29:27
Nuri Sahin will be made available for just £8million by Real Madrid, Liverpool are not likely to pursue a permanent deal for him tho, Lewis Holtby is now a preferred target for the summer. His wages would be considerably less than the kind of money Sahin is after. It's expected to be a big summer for Liverpool with only a few players being bought in January.
Bruce Wazza

I'd be tempted to give Nuri another 4/5 game run to see if the player from the Bundesliga is still in there somewhere.... we just haven't seen the meerest hint so far.

28 Dec 2012 21:20:11
Hi Ed's, I've never really watched Butland play, just read lot's about him. What your opinion on his ability?

Cheers

rikdangerous {Ed052's Note - a profile will hopefully be done soon}

28 Dec 2012 20:56:16
Begovic is the best goalkeeper in England and he is the man we should go for. Just my opinion but ive said it on here before so it's not a knee jerk reaction but Man U will probably end up buying him.
Murton Red

Agree, saw him play for Portsmouth, he is very good.

Yes I agree Murton, I said it 12 months ago, he's quality.

Ozone

My 8yr old son told me da you got to put him in your fantasy fb team in august he is best keeper in pl how right was he true story.rd

I ve been saying this for a couple of seasons, but you get noobs ayign he s rubbish he only plays for stoke etc etc

he s a safe pair of hands and would instill confidence in the back four which is what we need

28 Dec 2012 20:43:31
Hi Ed, I know you have answered this on several occasions but are we still interested in Gary Hooper? It seems like he won't be signing a new contract at Celtic so will he be moving in January? Thanks {Ed052's Note - no. Interest certainly seems to have died}

28 Dec 2012 20:25:33
Reina is the third worst GK in the League when it comes to Saves-to-shot ratio

Goalkeeper------------Saves-to-shot ratio
Begovic----------------79.1
Jaaskelainen-----------78.4
Cech--------------------77.6
Szczesny---------------77.1
Foster------------------75.0
De Gea-----------------74.2
Mignolet----------------73.3
Vorm--------------------73.1
Ruddy-------------------72.5
Krul---------------------69.3
Hart---------------------68.6
Howard-----------------67.1
Al Habsi-----------------65.7
Schwarzer--------------65.7
Lloris--------------------65.4
Guzan-------------------64.8
Federici------------------61.9
Reina--------------------60.7
Davis---------------------57.9
Green--------------------57.9

Not saying we should get rid of him now but we need to start finding a replacement. Reina's form is getting worse as the seasons go by.

Thoughts?

Max

28 Dec 2012 20:40:36
It's nearly impossible to rate a keeper on stats. Although that said, I was thinking lately that Begovic is quite a tidy keeper, and there he is up top.

But you can really only rate a 'keeper by how the goals he's conceding actually look. There were a couple of soft ones at the start of the season, and maybe Benteke's first goal a couple of weeks back. But most of the goals we've conceded have been from glaring chances that Reina couldn't have done much about. Not his fault that the opposition doesn't get enough shots from bad areas to boost his save %.

He started the season badly, but I think he's been okay lately. Butland might be an idea as a #2 choice to put more pressure on him than Brad (committed lad and all, especially after what happened to his kid, but he's not as good as an out-of-form Reina, much less an in-form one), but bringing him or another young, relatively inexperienced keeper like ter Stegen, who are the only ones we've had linked to us, as first choice and cutting Reina loose would be a receipe for disaster.

Why's Jones not on the list, btw?

- Something Red -

Doesn't necessarily reflect the goalkeepers ability so rather pointless really

Chris in Tamworth

Love the stats should keep these coming and been saying for a while now don't think he wants to be there he might love liverpool but as a player don't think his enjoying him self.

Deanalfie

28 Dec 2012 21:17:37
I respectfully disagree -Something Red-.
I certainly think that Jones has done enough to be an understudy to Pepe, if not take his place in this run of form.
Like i have said previously, i will not sit here and slag Reina off, he does not deserve that(and i respect nobody else has in this post).
He's been top class, but i can't see him playing on past this season, it's a shame really, because i have always loved him, and even had a 'keepers' jersey with his name on it the season 08/09.
Although i don't think Butland is anywhere near the replacement we need just yet, he is a good 'keeper', just needs to keep improving until he's ready!

BR is having first year as the manager with our team which is in poor state before he took it. There will be lot of up and down before reaching top. Fergie took 6 years. Even after spending lot of money City reached to the top after 3 years. At the end of summer traansfer window we know that we are left with Borini and Saurez as strikers. Unfortunately Borini's injury moved us to even worse position. So it is unfair to criticize BR early. He must be given time. Changing managers for every year will not work. Give atleast another season for BR.
Allen played almost all of our games till Fulham match. He looks little bit tired before Lucas returns. Keep faith he has the ability to establish in our team. Borini played only 5 games and injured. Give him some time he is only 21. Young players will not be consistent. Yes Owen and Gerrard played exceptional at their young age but this whole team is learning to play new way and our youngsters will come good as they add experience. Abusing owners and players through social media is not good.
Few years back when Iam watching LFC match in tv, the crowd were much noiser. I had told my dad about the noise and we were best fans in the world. But today if only visiting team makes any noise I could hear. We are the best fans in the world. We must support our team and manager through good and bad patches.
BE PATIENT AND SUPPORT OUR TEAM. SURELY WE WILL RISE FROM ASHES

"If you can't support us when we draw or lose don't support us when we win"_ Bill Shankly.
Shankly will feel worse of our support to the team more than our poor form

Agree. Agree. Agree.

Well said, you're spot on. Very disheartening how poor our fans are the last few seasons. Best fans in the world?? Not a chance! For shame !!!

Fantastic post friend

Changing managers has worked for Chelsea

Money has worked for Chelsea. 6th last season? Can't believe there's LFC fans admiring the Chelsea model lol
Clueless has reached a new high on this site
IrishRed

I wish fans would stop using supposed Shankly statements.
Its boring, and really a bit pathetic.
Live in the current era, don't be stuck in the past.
The great man has come and gone.

Get with the modern.

I'd like to see you do better than shankly with your amazingly modern and trendy managerial skills. Oh and how is a very valid comment on how supporters are expected to behave old fashioned and boring in any way?

28 Dec 2012 19:48:17
Just a casual observation, but scroll dont the page, who do you think you are? In your own words Stoke are awful, terrible, so are Villa, so are all these other rubbish, shocking teams you keep losing too. You fully deserve to be in the position you're in. Your stadium is quiet, your fans riddled with snobbery. 'not had the money to spend like Chelsea and Man City'. Incorrect you've spent a fortune. Atleast you stand by your managers tho rght?? laughable, how many of you are calling for BR's head.

Reality check needed fellas, you're making yourselves look silly

SHED END

Oh yeah and to think chelsea fans are any better calling for benitez to be sacked when he was only in the door. The only reason chelsea aren't in our position is due to a billionaire and i haven't heard any noise from stamford bridge when i watch chelsea on tv, the phrase kettle calling the pot black will never be more appropriate.
derryred

Shed end, the reality is we all know where we are but we're used to better.
We have a desire and hunger for success because its what we have become accustomed to.
Despite our weak position and under performing team we are still the most successful club in the country and one of the 2 biggest clubs in the country.
Your club is still trying hard to even start achieving what we have and 10 years ago you wouldn't have dared show your face on this page, mind you, you probably supported someone else then or you wouldn't have admitted who you did support.
At the moment we are struggling perhaps you could help us all and tell us how to cope with that because its what you've been used to until very recently

Arsenal and Liverpool have been given the green light to move in for Lewis Holtby after the Germany midfielder scrapped contract talks with Schalke.
After months of negotiations with Schalke's board, the 22-year old midfielder announced his intention to quit the Bundesliga club, in a development that will alert a host of admirers headed by the Barclays Premier League pair.
Both Arsene Wenger and his Liverpool counterpart Brendan Rodgers have expressed an interest in him and will be keener than ever, now he can be snapped up for a knockdown fee next month or for nothing at the end of the season.

There are more than two from the prem interested in holtby!

Why would he go to the lesser team in league like Liverpool! Plus him and his family are big everton fans :)

Tree Blue

If it is true that he is an Everton fan, then we shouldn't go for him. Might be something wrong with his head.

Bless. It's Christmas, and it looks like tree blues family are ignoring him again.

Eds do u think we could be getting a really decent player I like sturrindge but wen Rodgers saying gunner be good after jan an so did sterling do u think we could be getting world class {Ed052's Note - if I follow that correctly then dont expect expensive signing. World class is a subjective term similar to marquee. Dont expect expensive and big tent signings. Sturridge, and pethap 2, maybe 3 at a push others}

Rodgers is too divisive for Liverpool.
I have nothing against him, but.
The sooner he is gone the better.
No more 'systems' , just a practical man who can motivate and use the players we have to the best of their ability.
Please, no more 'system'. That's for bonkers boffins.

Socrates

I believe barcelona will strongly disagree.
derryred

28 Dec 2012 20:33:21
He's no more divisive than Kenny was, or Hodgson, or Rafa, or Houllier.

Until someone is winning the league, any manager we have will be divisive. Especially in this age when there's a whole generation of fans who think people actually give a damn about their opinions on the precise area of the pitch that Allen should play in, and whether or not too much Lucozade Sport is making Pepe hyperactive and contributing to his poor form.

You can come up with valid concerns about Rodgers as a manager, but "he's divisive" ain't one.

- Something Red -

Barcelona have Iniesta and Messi.
Fine, stick to your love of tiki taka and Rodgers system.
Disagree with me in April.
A smart manager will look at what he has got, then adapt a style to suit.
Not, impose his barmy system on players that probably don't understand it in the first place.
FSG, has a poor level of perception. Rodgers is ordinary. It is very obvious.
This, if not already apparent, will be by the end of March.

the first corner for qpr on sunday will tell me who decides tactics . if there is the usual procedure of only one man then reina decides the tactics for corner kicks . if there is two then br decides tactics. because if he has learnt anything from stoke two is a must now and always in the future. the first game of this season didnt gera score because we didnt have a man on the 18 yard line for clearances. so boys and girls qpr first corner will tell me who is in charge of the team the players or the manager.

if gerrard is still a first choice this time next year then we will be in a worse position than we are now. that will also tell me that the liverpool mafia are picking the team and we all know who the mafia are for those who dont know the initials are g, c, and r

alan waddle

If carragher is picking the team why isnt he in it?

Think if Gerrard is part of picking the team then he would put himself in a more advanced position up the pitch were he can affect the play more and score goals like the one against Fulham! You don't have to wait for QPR's first corner because I can tell you now Rodgers picks the team and the tactics and in my opinion Stevie isn't being played in the correct areas, but what do I know BR has probably forgot more about managing than I know otherwise I'd be working in football and not Pharmaceuticals.

Hello all, i've been listening to the managers interviews lately and he's calling for ''experience'' in the forward line.

I don't want to give rise to those fans who have stars in their eyes and are in denial about where the club is, at the moment but i think it's quite obvious that Rodgers wants an older head up front to help develop the younger lads on the pitch and give them a challenge for 1st team places.

LFC's oldest and most experienced striker is a 25 years old, Suarez and we all know he has the ability to be one of the most immature players in the league, but, of late especially he has shown he also has the ability to be one of the very best players around, who has been exemplary whilst under the media microscope.

I think Sturridge has a decent level of experience playing with some outstanding talents at Chelsea but Sturridge has been relatively under used with only 63 games since his move four years ago. So we'll not find the crucial ''experience'' there i fear, although i think Liverpool will offer him plenty of minutes on the pitch which is all he really needs to make some sort of impact.

I look at who we missed out on during the last transfer window and it was Clint Dempsey, a 29 year old seasoned International and Premier league player who just bagged 20+ goals in the League. I don't see any of that type of experience coming from the youthful Tom Ince or the underused understudy Daniel Sturridge, yet the manager is talking of ''experience''.

So, i'm left to think and wonder ''Is Rodgers looking at brining in a seasoned player to help out with the attack like he wanted in the Summer?'' I believe yes, he does.

Are manager has explicitly stated Sterling has played too much already this season, albeit out of his natural position on the wing. Borini is coming back from an injury lay off and he'll be on tender hooks until the new year maybe February time.

Hey eds just a few questions i hope you can shed some light on.
-Do Liverpool still maintain an interest in Finnish striker Joel Pohjanpalo?
-How high is Liverpool's interest in Jack Butland seeing as though the club have already spoken with his agent?
-If any which of the three out of: Benat, Will hughes, and Lewis Holtby do you think Liverpool have the likeliest chance of signing?

AsianRed {Ed052's Note - not any more. We know liverpool have an interest in Butland. How much, we will find out soon, although strong I would suggest. Hughes from those 3.}

Thanks Ed your response is much appreciated.

AsianRed {Ed052's Note - no problem. Thanks}

Don't think the ed is saying we will sign hughes? News in london claims that chelsea and spurs are showing a huge amount of interest in the player {Ed052's Note - no im not saying we will by any stretch of the imagination, but out of the 3 names mentioned hes most likely}

There has been a lot of talk about progress, but what exactly is progress for LFC? Is getting to 2 cup finals, winning 1 but finishing 8th, with the lowest points tally in 18 years considered progress? Or is it coming second in the league, losing out by the finest of margins to Manchester United, while competing regularly in the Champions League considered progress?

Which ever one you chose to believe in, LFC have NOT been progressing! While we have booted out Hicks & Gillett and welcomed in FSG during the past 5 years, we have also plummeted from finishing 2nd in the league, regular Champions League football to finishing 8th in the league and Europa League football.

Here is a quick look into our past 5 years:

Year Pos. W D L GF GA Points Half-way
08-09 2 25 11 2 77 27 86 42

09-10 7 18 9 11 61 35 63 30

10-11 6 17 7 14 59 44 58 25

11-12 8 14 10 14 44 40 52 32

12-13 10 6 7 6 28 26 25 25

From the 08-09 season to now, we have had 4 managers, plenty of personnel changes on and off the field, PR related issues, change of ownership etc.

BUT, we have during that time, have been spiraling down alarmingly. LFC have lost more matches, won less, have a poorer points total, goals for, goals against etc from 08-09 to present. This has been happening every year and more worryingly, it has been consistent decline, in every department. Now tell me, where is the progress? FSG have been in charge of LFC for 2 and half years, but I see little progress ON THE FIELD.

I am not a Benitez fan, wanted to give KD more time, but fully support FSG and BR, but it's out there for every one to see, THERE HAS BEEN NO PROGRESS on the field.

Sure, we can argue about the 'Performance, Lack of Debt, Stable Owners, Sponsorship deals etc, but it doesn't take away the fact (for the lack of a better word only) we have NOT been progressing.

I don't have any solution, but just putting things into perspective.

The real AG

Take into account the number of points that have won the league in the last few seasons. we have to look beyond the results on the pitch to see our progress. As well as this the changing manager every season has halted our progress.
derryred

Our goals has gone down drastically too.

First 6 games 5 points 1 win
Second 6 games 10 points 2 wins
Third 6 games 10 points 3 wins
Progress.

I really don't understand all this abuse our Jonjo has been getting! The lad has had a great season, standing in for Gerrard with ease and adapting to the striker role. One bad game and he's the worse player LFC has ever seen! Get a grip guys! Poor lad is only 20 and has bags of potential, and already proving what a great player he will be! Some of you lot must expect the world, wouldnt be happy unless he scored 30 goals a season and turned down £300k a week from Barca! Cut the poor guy some slack!

I'm sure many would disagree with me, but Spearing had a few good games after his debut, and he turned out to be really bad. So the same could apply to Jonjo, as he isn't improving.

Piledriver

It's scandalous that people are having a go at young players. I don't agree with having a go at any players while they are wearing the red shirt, but there were plenty of senior players who should be getting it before the likes of Shelvey.

It was obvious to anyone who knows about football that Shelvey was having a poor game on Boxing Day. Maybe Rodgers doesn't know as much as he likes us to think, as he is the one to blame for leaving him on when he was really struggling.

Incidentally, he still has a lot to prove and I'm not sure he is as good as some of the posters on here seem to think. However, sending tweets abusing the lad is beyond belief.

redmersey

Dont joke with me

He is improving and is still young. hoenstly i do not think you respect how a young player must change to roles given to him and change in reponsibility.

He is not a young Gerrard. Probably will never be. But ask yourself how many Gerrard type quality players have we had in the last twenty years?
A few, yes but not many so cut him some slack

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is paying no attention to comparisons being made about his record and that of Roy Hodgson when he was at Anfield.

Defeat at Stoke on Boxing Day meant the Northern Irishman has exactly the same points haul - 25 - from 19 league matches as Hodgson did when he was removed from his role in early 2011.

But Rodgers says the fact he was sought out by Liverpool's owners Fenway Sports Group, and given time to rebuild their squad, means he feels no pressure over his future on Merseyside.

"I have been brought in here to do a job and the owners have been brilliant with me. I don't think about them (the comparisons) to be honest, it is not something I am overly worried about, " Rodgers said ahead of their trip to QPR on Sunday.

"The backing I've had from supporters has been incredible considering and that is the most important group really.

"They recognise what is going on, they understand like I would understand the frustration.

"Any comparisons I don't really focus on and it is difficult to compare the two groups because there is a lot of youthfulness in this group but yet still a lot of growth left in the team.

"There is a lot of progressing to do because we're 10th in the table and this is a club which wants to be at the very top but the only way you can do that is by reconstruction of the work and building the squad.

"That is what is going to take a bit of time. I always say it's like a good meal - I'm not a great cook but a good meal takes a wee bit of time but also to offer a good meal you need good ingredients.

"That is something we will do over time and hopefully put a nice meal on the table for supporters."

Top bloke

RD

Agree, but Rodgers needs to realise that you can't make an omelette until you've bought the eggs, so play the type of football which plays to the strengths of the players you already have, not try play football which the players aren't capable of.rob b

One issue with that mate is if you gave me a million pound weekly budget for 11 first team players I would say they should all be able to kick a ball 20 yards with both feet and play to any desired system. football is an easy game but add ego, lack of desire, lack of commitment then all you will have in return is under performing players hiding behind every excuse

"The backing I've had from supporters has been incredible considering and that is the most important group really.

Brendan should really take a look at some posts from 'fans' on here, it ludicrous the amount of abuse this man gets.

Hans

I disagree Hans, the abuse he gets is proportionate to the results he achieves.

"I agree we didn't buy the right players, but kenny still led us to two cup finals and 8th in the league..."
Have you forgotten we weren't in the Europa League last season which meant Kenny could play his strongest team for the cups and the PL?

Kenny had the benefit of 18mths and 3 transfer windows to build his team, and you want to compare his achievements with Rodgers, who's been here only 5mths. I ask you - is this fair?

Singred

Kenny only bought in two transfer windows....the same windows that BR will have in a few days time

Just heard this on ESPN. In our last 38 games (last 19 from 2011/12 season and first 19 of this season) we have only managed 43 points!
Bolton got relegated last season with 36 points.

Are you looking to be awarded the most pointless (no pun intended) post of the year award?

Worst. Post. Ever.

You just amalgamated two separate 1/2 seasons under 2 different managers. thialf a season has 25 points and the previous managers latter half season had 18 points. Then you compared that silly points summation with a relegated teams total season points, which was 8 points less than your made up number. The same 8 points which currently separates 10th from 3rd place in the league.

Good job the moon wasn't in- line with Venus
Or we would of been relegated defo!!!!!

Hi ed(s) I was wondering if Liverpool have made any enquires as to centre backs or the sort of big and strong player that people have been saying we need? cheers. {Ed052's Note - not that we know of. Defence is not a priority}

Judging by the shambles at stoke it might be a good shout?

Gazman

Shelvey & Gerrard in CM is the reason our defense was so exposed at Stoke. Both don't track back and don't run enough. Lucas looks to be even a yard slower than he was before too. Hope he gets back to where he was soon.

28 Dec 2012 17:53:19
Lots of rumours kicking off as we near the frenzied excitement of the January Transfer Window.

I hope LFC stop buying for buying's sake. There have been too many nearly men and alot of money has been wasted.

Andy Carrol was overpriced, Downing is hopeless and Henderson isn't far behind. That's to say nothing of Adam and Allen (Allen isn't too bad but nothing that Lucas can't do).

Here's my take on the Jan. window.

IN

STURRIDGE (eng)
INCE (eng)
WALCOTT (eng)
BUTLAND (eng)
LAMPARD (eng)

OUT

REINA (Arsenal for Walcott)
GERARD (for Lampard and Sturridge)
DOWNING (cash)

Ok some of it may not happen until Summer (Reina for Walcott) but this is what will be happening. {Ed052's Note - lampard wont be signing mate}

Lampard for Gerrard haahahaahahaahaha

RD

Wonder why you didn't sign off your post?

Reina for Theo? Doubt TW is any good between the sticks and Arsenal are going to be hugely let down when they see Reina in an attacking position.

Kelly Red {Ed002's Note - Mid Jan and mid March.}

Apologies Ed0002, it stated on the LFC website that Assaidi was going for Africa cup. Yet he is not available til March? Or is he not available because he is going to Africa cup? {Ed052's Note - hes not avaliable as hes at ACON}

Cheers Ed, , , Aagghh I was hoping Borini would be available sooner.

Liverpool fans should lay off Borini, he's only had 5, ye that's right, 5 league appearance's, (not even 5 full league 90 mins)
If we're to judge and rate a player in such a short space of time then what chance does any youngster have at the club, yeah youngster, he's 21 for gods sake!

28 Dec 2012 16:56:00
Does anybody else agree with about resting/dropping Gerrard for a couple of games, I thought he looked very ill and warn out against stoke! For so many years he's had to carry Liverpool and now i Dont think his knees can take it, he needs rest!

Ill is one way of putting it. I thought he looked grey! too much turkey or Moet maybe the day before lol. He must surely have a rest against mansfield next weekend.
LeeWils

He wouldn't be in my starting 11 anymore. Hasn't got the legs left for the movement we need in CM nor the pressing of the opposition. Him & Shelvey together in CM is the reason we were so overrun against Stoke. They both lazy and unfit.

His set-pieces have been rubbish for ages as well.

28 Dec 2012 16:48:19
Since we are pretty much at the half way stage this season, what's the general feeling in terms of progress..? Also, are the owners likely to bin rodgers if he delivers a mid table finish (which is likely) or are they likely to be happy if they see progress..? I just think we look like a team scrabbling around for some direction but failing miserably...

28 Dec 2012 16:47:43

28 Dec 2012 16:38:47
Give BR, FSG and our new signings and youngsters some time please!!! We are fans lets all behave like we want them to do well. Shelvey is 20yrs old and is one of the best young players in the prem. Lucas suffered so much abuse from our 'fans' early into his career. Im suprised the lad stayed. Im glad he did as he is world class. All you that want BR out, the owners out and send players vile abuse, please do us all a favour and find another club. LFC don't want fans like you. Get a new manager, get new owners, get superstar players just 1 question tho, who the hell would want to play for ignorant vile so called 'fans'. Come on Liverpool, lets push on and cheer them on for the next half of the season.

I agree with you when you say we have to give everyone time and we should as fans, all be patient, but disagree when you say Shelvey is one of the best young players in the Prem.

First of all, 20 years old for a footballer isn't that young, do people forget what Michael Owen was doing for our club at the age of 17/18? That is the standard we should be comparing any up and coming youngsters against, (Shelvey was awful on Wednesday night and being young is no excuse)

Kelly Red

Ha Ha ha, Shelvey one of the best young players in the premiership, what are you on, he's a championship player at best

alan50

Well said. Time is so expensive though

Anyone else think we big-up all our youngsters too much? Yes they have potential but not necessarily gonna become world beaters.

I have been supporting lfc for too many years to be taken in by these young/dumb and fickle fans. Remember Souness' tenure if you were even born, compare and then maybe just maybe I will listen to our bile about the current set up.

Fred

Owen was one of the best strikers ever to grace the Prem, comparing a midfielder to him isnt fair. What 20 year old midfielder would you swap Shelvey for??? Shelvey could be vital for us long term. And Alan50 you must have been on the xmas port too much you sound like a manc lad.

No I am certainly not a manc, the fact is Shelvey is NOT good enough, there are far too many games where he contributes NOTHING.

Would either of the Manc teams or Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs bend over backwards to sign him, definitely NOT.fact is he is well overrated as is Sahin, Henderson, and I am prepared to stick my neck out and add Sterling to that list, he is only young I agree but is nothing special

alan50

It's great this site,
If we win its great, if we get beat then it sack the manager and get new owners!!
Truth be told we have not been a force for a number of years and won't be anytime soon, we all just need to get used to it,
We don't have the money Chelsea man city and united have so we will be fighting for the scraps anyway,
Here's to future, lets hope it's a red one.
Paul the red

Then how come you spent 35mill on carroll, 20mill on downing, 27mill on suarez, 20mill on henderson, 9mill on adam, 10mill on borini and 15mill on allen. I'm sorry but liverpool have spent plenty of money, they've just done it badly.

*spent it badly

Most of them we bought were through sales of Torres mascerano xabi alonso merelish to name a few. Players we needed to keep And add too not sell a buy pretty poorly.
I'm not denying we haven't spent a lot but we can't afford the spend over a billion pounds and leave them on the bench or loan them out when there on 200k per week.
Plus hendo was 13 million I think and Suarez was 23 million
Adam we sold on, apart from downing we will get 18 million back for Carroll and saved a years wages.
Why I'm defending my post I don't know as I was just stating a fact that were not the best anymore and can't compete in the transfer market with the big guns.
Paul the red

Yeah but you still spent that amount Paul the bitter red!

Do the club actually leak any information to the press? Sahin was on the bench for the Fulham game so surely he is fit enough to play.

Thought that was obvious, he is not good enough

Ha! Nice one ... had to Google that to see if indeed he had broke his nose, or if you were up to your usual whimsy.

Never even heard he had broken it.

Im sorry i was all for Rodgers and was sold on his work ethic etc...
But even i miss the Rafa days now...
For anyone that wants to say Rafa did a bad job i dont personally recall 2nd in the league and two champions leagues finals being bad...not to mention consistently in the top four,
Some of our fans have a short memory and some have a strange idea about how long a manager should get...it seems most have been talked into believing once again that we are the proverbial work in progress and no matter what the results Rodgers should get time...why?
becuase his dossier says so?...I know its seems bad everytime a club sacks a manager after a short time but seriously, we are Liverpool not Reading...this is a results business and we are getting left behind....
Thats aside from him now saying we wont be spending much money again.........nearly 20 million for two unprovens is a fair amount of money in my book......why oh why cant anyone at the club see we need a real striker, a real hitman, someone with class in the box........
Disappointed right now with what seems to be in store for us...hope there are some surprises but im doubting it....we go through this every window and we always get let down......

Mickey you are joking am sure rafa did nothing of the sort the two fools who were in charge of the club are to blame for near bankrupsy rafa had to sell to make money for our debt

Rafa took us to near bankruptcy and where we are now is mostly his fault.

MIKEY

==========================

This is so untrue ... its pathetic .. So Hicks and Gillett were the saints? and most of us falsely accused them of sucking money out of the club .. how wrong we were !
According to you MIKEY we are where we are because of Rafa (todays excuse) and Gerrard (I seem to remember you blaming him for every other defeat we had)

Roy

Whilst i think it unfair to blame rafa for taking us too near bankrputcy he did allow some ridiculous contracts to be signed for monumental wages. But lets move on from Rafa and support buck for the rest of the season and then Judge him.
LeeWils

Maybe I should re word it then. His signings and the contracts he gave out contributed greatly to our current problems, ie getting rid of players draining the blood from the club.
He didn't get us top 4 every year. He left the club in a right state.
I am thankful to rafa for the cup finals and the accademy he helped set up but bringing him back is stupid.

Didn't she sing 99 red balloons?

28 Dec 2012 16:17:33
If we bring in sturridge, ince and with borini and assaidi returning from injury our forward line looks a lot more complete.
We also have the added advantage of not having to waste suso and shelvey out on the wings, saving them for when we need them in midfield.
We can also afford to properly manage sterling and not have to rely on him every game because he really needs a rest.
I am predicting a much better goal and points return from the second half of the league than the first. Our team is going to be more complete and when Lucas is fully match fit and learns the system then we should stop leaking so many costly goals.

MIKEY

FANTASTIC post!

Assaidi is included in morrocos provisional squad for the ACON

Good in you mikey, bit of perspective think there will be a few more ups & downs to come, happens in a new managers 1st season, he needs time & support & so do the younger players

If anyone reading this was party to abusing Shelvey on Twitter then feel ashamed of yourselves. You are vile and can not call yourselves LFC supporters. If you tried to get a job then you might have something else to do than spew anonymous hate.

Fowler99

People should be ashamed for even being on twitter in the first place.

MIKEY

I agree, but seriously which adults go on Twitter?

Trolls, stalkers and attention seekers.

I'd be happy if none of our players or staff went on there, it's utterly ridiculous!

I use twitter for news and career related purposes. I think it's a good social platform but it gets abused by the trash. But there are trolls in all walks of life unfortunately.

Ed heres a question for you..

If at the end of the season Rafa gets the option to rejoin liverpool as manager or chelsea offer hin a contract, both of similar pay, benefits and contract length.. who do you think he would join? {Ed002's Note - He will go with either that offer friends with benefits.}

What happened?

Ed you are just too amusing I look forward to another year of your amazing wit :)

28 Dec 2012 16:32:45
I suspect Benitez would take the Liverpool job in the morning if he could.

We haven't offered it to him and probably never will though.

- Something Red -

28 Dec 2012 16:43:34
Liverpool was the past. Chelsea is the future for Rafa, and I know surprisingly, he'll be at Chelsea longer than expected. Stick with BR, he's doing a great job.

28 Dec 2012 15:50:19
With Liverpool needing an Attacking Midfielder, (whether acquiring one in the January window or in the summer) do LFC/FSG have interest in: Belhanda, Eriksen, Isco or other/s? These players would be instant game changers and would not break the bank (would be in Suarez's purchasing neighbourhood-23M). If LFC want to be successful in the Prem, they need to acquire a good #10, someone like Juan Mata, who without him, Chelsea would flounder.
Thanks, Jordan

28 Dec 2012 15:43:03
Would love if we could bring in a player like Cazorla. Some will say we have Suarez but hes not the same type of player. Suarez is more of a goal scorer than a goal creator while Cazorla is more of an attacking midfielder. Any chance we will go for that type of player in January or the summer?
Cheers mate, love this site.
LS7. {Ed052's Note - the summer will more likely see a CAM signed}

Suarez, a goalscorer. He needs 10 clearchances for him to score one goal. A very overated player

Suarez may need 10 chances to actually score but the fact is, he does score goals. His record proves that and he is a team player. Not only is he a proven scorer but he is outstanding to watch. His ability on the ball is amazing and its a pleasure to watch him playing in a Liverpool jersey. Controversial-yes, overrated-far from it.
LS7.

28 Dec 2012 16:50:10
How can anybody in their right senses say Luis Suarez is an overrated play. He carries the whole team on his shoulders, can't u see? I rate him above every player in the EPL, and I'm a Chelsea fan - would have him in my team anyday.
Bas!cs.

Carries the ball with him all game as well... Would like him to get his head up and pass more.

Hi Eds,
Have you heard anything about the Dzeko rumour.
Apparently he wants first team football and will not be content at City if he will be used as a 'super sub'. also City need to shift their wage bill and he is a big earner. {Ed052's Note - too expensive for most clubs, including us}

28 Dec 2012 15:17:53
Sturidge in- 12 mil
Ince in- 4-6 mil
Butland in- 6-7 mil
Suprise player in - under 10 mil

Sorry but that's all he can spend at most, might even be just first three, believe rodgers is doing the right thing. Young players only develop and their value rises.

P.S - assaidi is back from knee injury, borini is back from foot injury at jan, sahin is fully fit and can play after nose injury and Kelly is delayed till February but the mancs have shown an interest in him as he is not signing a new contract
Ali G indahouse

I believe that kelly will sign a new contract and current rejections does not mean he will not sign they are simply part of negotiations and I do not believe there is interest from the Mancs

Seems like we're giving £12million to Chelsea for Sturridge, and then they're going to splash out £15million for Negredo. That's just £3million extra (plus extra wages and the players preference of who to play with, I know) for a quality Spanish international who scores goals easily for club and country.

If true, then it looks like we've been bent over again in the transfer market. I felt sorry for the owners when Dalglish and Comolli were throwing money around on over priced English talent, but not anymore...you're supposed to learn from your mistakes. Whoever is signing off on these fees needs to be axed quick before the debt starts to rise faster than we can control.

If the argument is that English players will have a good resale value due to the 25 man squad rule, then I can't wait to see the resale prices for Carroll, Henderson, Downing and Cole...I'm sure we'll be swimming in cash!

-Shane.

Truth be told, I hate Sturridge, but he would fit better into Brenden's system than Negredo. Vice versa, Negredo would replace Torres as Chelsea's lone frontman.

Drigan

You can't think of it like that shane. negredo wouldn't have come to a 10th place side with no champions league. it's unfortunate and makes us look bad kinda- but that's the huge huge pull of champions league football for you...

don't take this the wrong way mate, but it's a mistake lots of people make on here ie. in the marketplace: him vs. him, totally missing the point of whether the world class star in question would come to us in the first place!
once we get back in there we're laughing, but until then- getting the players that actually WANT to play for us is the key!

domjon

Domjon, Drigan

- Totally get you about comparing like for like, and I also mentioned that it's obviously Negredo's preference who he wants to play football with.

The main point though was value. I still think if we have £12million to spend, there's better value out there. For Sturridge's goal tally and experience, at least £4million is being bumped up on that price because he's English, and because we've been taken to the cleaners on players for the past few years. It's hard to take.

That being said, the best thing Sturridge has going for him is that he's 6ft 2. So if he's played down the middle, and he wants to battle for us, I think he can be a success.

-Shane.

Hi Everyone, I just came to know that Shelvey closed his twitter account for the vile abuse he took.

Let me tell you something. I love LFC more than any thing that is associated to sports. I think myself a very big supporter of club and LFC is the best in the world. But that doesn't give me divine right to talk whatever i want because i think I am the best fan and LFC doesn't have divine right to win every match they play and all the players involved to have stellar matches just because we and myself included think LFC should be winning every match.

I also see pre match posts of 4-0 trashing of Stoke etc. Suddenly after match we are the worst and players in LFC are "deadwood".

Try to respect opposition and your own team. Stoke have right to play their own style and we have our own right to play our style. For goodness sake stop comparing ourselves to Barcelona or Swansea just because we play similar styles. Just be realistic this season. This season is always going to be inconsistent in terms of results due to squad being thin and young. Like Shelvey, Sterling, Suso etc being young their performances will be very inconsistent. You should not scale progress of this season on basis of table position and points, but the maturity and experience both manager and squad gains.

I mean you guys are very inconsistent in support. When we won 4-0 against Fulham, u think Liverbird is rising and 5 point difference is nothing and we will trash every team in our path and Shelvey is heir apparent to Gerrard. Then a bad result and performance Everyone is crap except you guys and give very mature analysis and opinions. I think most if these guys are either spoiled children or losers who doesn't have any good in their lives. I am by no means saying I am happy us to losse. I get riled, but i only make a constructive criticism then take a little time to get realistic view of match and season, same goes to wins.

And also who exactly do you think we will try to get if we fire Rodgers. We would struggle to attract Fat Sam if we fire managers at this rate. If u guys dont stop moaning every match FSG will be forced to do so who i am sad to say lack decision making in sensible ways and think by their own senses due to lack of knowledge.

Anyway its up to you. Stop being a spoiled child who thinks he has right to get whatever he wants.

AJ

Spot on AJ.
Posters need to be realistic this season and just try and enjoy the football.

We should call it a day with Brendan... He just hasn't got the qualities to ge a great Liverpool manager. Leadership needs to be shown by the owners to get Pep in and accept that it hasn't worked out with the present coaching set up.

Yeah good one then pay him out of his contract with millions and also all of the staff he brought in costing yet more millions then pay another manager millions worth of signing on fees or to get them out of there present contract . So after all that he would have nothing to spend . So what was the point . As you would be calling for the new managers head within 6 month . Just walk through the storm with you head held high and we might just get to the golden skies we are all after . Jamesy

Why would pep go to a team with no champions league and no realistic hopes of either european tournements in the next few seasons. {Ed052's Note - he wouldn't}

I think if we are seriously building for the future, Will Hughes has got to be a priority signing.

He's still v young but he is already better than majority of under 21 midfielders. He always seems to have time on the ball, which is a trait more often seen in Xavi, Gerrard or Pirlo than in most other players.

And for once we may actually have an intangible edge over other clubs with him being a Liverpool fan and Cloughie being his manager.

I hope we go all out and at least TRY to sign him. Who knows how good the kid can get?

Let's not let another prodigy slip thru like we did George Green.

What do you guys think? Eds?

Singapore Red {Ed002's Note - All clubs need be aware that it can also be detrimental to a career of someone who is already getting first team football. Bostock at Spurs is a good example.}

I think if we did get Hughes he would need to be loaned back or we would just be stopping his progress. But I would expect something like this personally to happen in the summer.

Rk

Quality player , sign him and loan him back .ant

edds keep mentioning lampard do we have any intrest in him

mike {Ed002's Note - I am pretty certain that the Eds don't keep mentioning Lampard.}

To help the Eds out, we have no interest in Lampard and never have had. He would never move north of watford anyway and at 34 is even less likely to do so. He will go where the $$$s are and it is warmer. Have you ever watched him play with Gerrard for England?

Brendan Rodgers has been told by the board of their concerns and the owners are supportive still but they are not happy.
Basically he either bucks up or bucks off.
The owners really dont want to sack him as they dont want to settle out even more compensation but they are feeling the heat of the fans anger.
I think he either finishes 6th or better or he will be out. Thats just my opinion.

Sturridge- 12 mil
Butland- 7 mil
Hunteaar- 19 mil
Cavani- 21 mil
Lescott- 8 mil

Out:
Sterling- 25 mil

Henderson- 7 mil

The same Huntelaar who signed a new contract. What a person you are go back to your xbox.

Cavani 21mill and we then sell an unproven worse player for 25mill?

go back to fifa

If you seriously think sterling is worth more than cavani then there is something wrong with your head

What is the situation with Henderson, Editors? I'd like to think his performances in the last month or so have bought him enough time to evade this window, but I'm not entirely confident on that point.

Hi eds, just firstly I've a message for all LFC fans that come onto this site.
I want to just remind them that real fans don't sit there barrating their team and manager over every silly rumour that happens to come their way. It's moronic!

We've 25 points under Brendan Rodgers, halfway through the season.
We could easily have 30+ if we'd of had a bit of luck go our way and more fire power, but what can you do.
We finished 8th, with 52 points under KK, who had
No European football
Bellamy, Maxi, Kuyt and Carroll
100M+ spent on squad

If Brendan Rodger gets us 27+ more points in the second half of the season (there by, showing how poor a job KK had done concidering the players and finance avalible to him)
will the "Know it All" LFC fans come on here and actually realise what a difficult job he's had to do this season?

Fans should realise how difficult a job it is now, and 6 months isn't going to remedy it.
I've only endure 2 title challenges from about 20 in my life time, manly due, IMHO, to the quick fix every time. If LFC have to take a season or two to get their house in order, I'll happily take it so we're competitive in the longer term.

You don't get any trophies for 4th place. But you'd think it was the be all, to LFC fans on this site.
We through money at it under KK and it didn't work.
If LFC fans don't see that this grounding and foundation is needed for the long term competitiveness of LFC, go support some other team, because you haven't a clue.

YNWA

I think that's spot on. 52 points with the resorces KK had is pitty full. BR looks like he'll at least match that with a nothing squad and fans will see whatever they want. That's why fans in the masses are persons.

I don't think we will match 52 pts this season mid 40, s at best , and I don't believe kk would have been so bad this year with those players

I think on current foam and our inconsistancy, 50points sounds about right and that will probably make us finish 10th. If i am right then this is not progession but far worse.

Post of the day!

RedSpud

We were only a couple of performances from picking up a few more points. Excpected inconcistonceys being only 6 months in, we should be pushing for a better second half to the season, 30+ points.
And weather that gets us 6th or 10th, it's all being set up to buy more in the summer and push next season.
If we're in this situation this time next season, I'd be agreeing with some of this negativity, but only 6 months in is horrible to be practically calling for our managers head.

Last year we hit the post more times than anyone else and should have had a lot more points but for that. Everyone would be in agreement with that. We also played good football and anyone who is a true fan could see all we needed was a forward. This year has been a shambles. The striker problem wasn't fixed and neither was the DM issue. BR isn't the man for the job as he has no tactical awareness. Its a pity as he seems a nice man but so was Woy

I'll repeat .... 52 points, 100M, Maxi, Bellers, Kuyt, Carroll.

No European football

18 months

No comparison .......

Players like Sterling Suso Yesil Morgan Ibe when there older
There going to be class acts hopefully weel buy players to devolp our team to a next level we need and Defender Winger and a Striker
Enough is Enough we need to win our games.

A while back Macca said that the first team had been asked about Sturridge. My thought is that with a manager that doesn't really have pull when it comes to attracting big foreign players (unless they play with Swansea), would the club ask the players their thoughts on signings and if they had any friendships that they could use ie if Suarez or Coates are pals with Cavani they could both voice their opinion on him and see what the club could do in signing that player. They could also have a word with him when it comes to attracting the player to the club. I'm a realist and know that we wouldn't get Cavani and was just using him as an example. Do any ed's or reds know of any friendships that exist between our current squad and players that could improve the team?

redSteely

Apparently Stewart Downing is good friends with Emile Heskey..

when we get new stadium i think we should try match old trafford, i never realised how high their big stand actually goes till the other day, maybe we couldnt get the same capacity but if we can build quadrants and a 3rd tier we may one day be there. what are peoples thoughts? {Ed002's Note - I think a new stadium may be a considerable time away.}

The differnce with Man u is.
1 their manager has achieved continiously over many years, saf has been unbelievable in this regard.
2 listing on stock exchange in early 1990's financed a lot of their expansion to stadium.
3 sound business planning with defined objectives.
4 trophy successes translated into brand awareness, revenue growth, global reach.
6 the right people (management) in the correct positions.
7 Eric Cantona.

And massively in debt.

Debt Debt and more Debt...get a grip and go to the Man Utd page. Even United fans hate sitting up in their stand as its awful view and atmospere.

Let's face facts with pepe reina , when he joined he thought he was joining a true European giant which was on the up .and I would say he was in the top 5 keepers in the world.Yes his form as been poor , I think he's disappointed with the whole clubs direction . Plus people who think he's being "sold"
For his poor form are being hoodwinked !! He will be replaced with a cheaper option !! Which starts my next point ,fsg ... I said when they come and I'll say it again , there slowly assit stripping our club !! If people still can't see it they need glasses !! They will spend in jan because swarez will be sold in the summer fact !! New tv deal comes in so as long as we stay in the premier league they will be quids in ! Cheap players , cheap wages , loyal fans who buy season tickets , kits , merchandise ...££££
As br he seems like a nice fella , but I just don't buy into "football project" good teams have good players and that's a fact . Joe Allen not sure , borni not for me and as sturige being the answer not a chance !!
Before people jump on my back for not being a fan , I adore this great club !
A perfect example of how far our club has fell is huntellar told reporters he wouldn't move to us as we're not a European address any more ! He plays at shalke !
When we had H&g people was banging down the doors of anfield ! But with FSG it's a slow death and people just take it !!

You are a bit weird my friend...

Not a fan of the owners although welcomed em simply because of who we had before but if what your saying is true they wouldn't have bought Suarez and Carroll plus the others ???
Les

You, my friend, need to see a doctor!!

Are you actually saying H & G were better?

Paul R

Some of these so called great players want euro footy instantly so they only go for top 4 teams why dont they ever go to a lower placed club and help them get champs league footy surely that would be a greater achievement in their career and to look back on it with pride and say look we were going nowhere till i joined now look at us

'swarez' - stunning

Original poster, your spot on mate, I wish you'd left a name.

Ozone

28 Dec 2012 16:35:23
Oh no Ozone, better grab on to them 'assits' now and nail em to the ground, then maybe Henry won't be able to sell it eh?

Define asset stripping, and show me an example of how Fsg are doing it, then maybe your post will have credence!
WelshBoyDave

Do u think lfc have a better squad than say .... 2 years Ago , but hey we can always get a quality loan in !!!
Well at least we can all keep buying our lfc goodies !! Maybe walk around our new stadium .... Oh hang on ....
I have no doubt u love lfc as much as me but u need to open ur eyes !!
FSG have no intention of restoring lfc that's a cold hard fact !!
Why get br in as manager .... Because he's used to working cheap !! Does anyone else think any top manager would put up with FSG ?
Redjay

FSG need to grow the club and make it successfull on and off the field to make any money at all on their initial investment plus the tens of millions pumped in since.
How anyone can say they are asset stripping is beyond me.

MIKEY

Les Suarez and Carroll were bought with the money off Babel and Torres!

Just want to say its an absolute disgrace that people have been abusing Shelvey on Twitter. The lad is 20 and just begining to show his potential and versatility as a footballer. It beggars belief that they hold this lad responsable for the result. The lad has improved massively under BR and is the closest replacement we have for Stevie G, I believe he will a quality footballer in years to come. It can be frustrating watching Liverpool FC at time this season, but I posted earlier in the season that this will be a long hard season for us, as we seek to repair the damage of past regimes. We have young talented players coming through and getting regular 1st team games. BR is improving our game and we have owners who will only run our club in a prudent and diligent manner.
All the best.

KNEE JERK.

The thing is the so called fans that have been abusing him on twitter can't see the damage they are causing beyond that. They think because he earns x number of thousands of pounds per week it gives them the right to abuse.
His confidence will be affected.
Also what happens next, do they move onto the next young player and abuse them too so their confidence drops??
It's a vicious circle that only gets worse.
How about the so called fans actually get behind the team, manager and anyone associated with the club.
Give the players confidence to play and the desire to even try.
It pains me to say it, but we could do with a massive wake-up call and all these half-fans can jog-on and support someone else that deserves them (I'm not naming any club).
While we're on the subject of getting behind the team, why the hell is Anfield so bloody quiet when we play there? Look at the wall of noise that Stoke generated and the support they showed for their team to drive them on.
The home fans at Anfield are regularly out-sung by the away fans - it's embarrassing.

hi all.
i admire the ambition of playing the short passing game but surely that invites opponents onto us perhaps the german model is maybe a better option passing with a mix of penetrating longer ball.
i hope i not talking out of term here but i would like to see a bit of passion from br especially on the touch line.
hoping we all have a great new year lfc 4ever mal..

Im not sure what do u mean exactly by german model, but borussia dortmund is doing very good. i like their style.

I really don't know whats the fuss about new faces. Agreed that we need additions to the squad. We need bench strength. However, apart from a striker, I don't think there is anything to be desperate about in January transfer market.

What we do need is a replacement of Steve Clark. He had really organized our back four and with all due respect to our current support staff structure under Rodgers, our defense doesn't look the same as it did when Clark was there. Agreed that our current midfield and forwards play drastically different system than one under KD and Clark and that would reflect on the performance of back four. However, I still believe that someone like Steve Clark (His return is obviously out of question) or the guy who joined Arsenal at the beginning of the season (sorry forgot the name) is the need of the hour rather than this player or that player. Anything happening on that front Eds? {Ed052's Note - not on the coaches front no}

All the players have to do is watch match of the day and Hansen and Lauro' analysis...pretty simple really!

I hope we dont buy anymore players in JAN
we are a team fighting for a top 7 finish at best

Brendan Rogers is useless, he hasnt got a clue, Gerrard played out of position and its obvious we dont have a first 11. Bring back Hodgson he is better than BR.

I really dont want us to buy anymore squad players (includes strurridge, Allen, Borini), just makes it difficult to offload players in the Summer when hopefully the owners realise they stuffed up as they appoint a champions league finishing side capable / experienced manager.

BR surely has to be the worse manager ever. No inconsistency in the teams play and results.
Tika-Taka football my ****. he should stick to tic tac toe

When do the kids go back to school?

Ever ever ever?
RB

A the common reply by the un named poster. God you must still be in nursery school because the orginal poster has a good point. Antrim Red

I can deal with you saying we shouldn't buy anymore players. Not agree, but deal with it. I can deal with you slamming BR as so many are doing these days. Im a supporter of him so I will support him and his decisions. But bring back Hodgeson? I think your just a Manc trolling for a laugh.
The door is that way -->

HazRed

So Antrim Red... The OP writes 'BR surely has to be the worse manager ever' & you think that he has a point?

Gerrard playing out of position? where should he be playing then?

Kaizer

Gerrard should be playing from the bench.

On paper, it would be fair to say that a neutral wouldn't have West Brom, Swansea, Stoke, Aston Villa, West Ham, or even Everton's, starting XI over Liverpool. Yet, yet, these teams have be doing better than/have outplayed and beaten us. Fair enough, we won vs West Ham, but only thru the skin of our teeth having been outsmarted, bossed and bullied about.

A team boasting Pepe Reina, Agger, Skrtel, Johnson, Enrique, Lucas, Sahin, Gerrard, Suarez, Sterling... established internationalr and some of the world's best... yet, yet we have our arses handed to us by a useless Aston Villa outfit and fodder like Stoke.

Why oh why can't we score goals and win? Surely Benteke, Crouch, Ba, Jones ain't better than Suarez... surely?
Surely Agger and Skrtel are better than anything those teams have to offer?

So just why, somebody pleaaaaase tell me why we can't do what other teams find it so easy to do: win and have long such streaks? Why?

Also, why do we have the tendency to buy demonstrably poor players (at negatively disproportinate fees)? There was Dembele last summer who went for £15m, same what we paid for Allen. There was Kevin Mirallas for about £6m-£7m; we went and bought Borini for £11m. Don't even get me started on Carroll, Hendersen and Downing.

Just why oh why does it have to be Liverpool who spend huge amounts on average to abject players? Why can't we ever pull a smartie?
Somebody tell me why.

The past 3 or so windows combined we have spent almost £150m on new players, yet are no better that we were during Rafa's last season.
We should be considerably ahead given such spending, yet we are as appalling and hopeless as ever.

Why? Genuinely, somebody please explain to me just why?
Why do we find ourselves here and what can be done to change the situ?
Your views would be much appreciated.

I have thought this myself, it is truely scarey, but i believe br will repair the damage.

Hi there, Far too many questions to answer and I think even KK, Br or comoli can answer that. We did wrong bussiness on all ends. We sold a striker for 50 mil and wasted that money entirely where as Newcastle waited with that cash and strenghtened their squad. we were looking for Allen from swansea but forgot about other targets. KK went for quick fixes where as Br went for low risk layers the players he already knew. There is a general negativity among the players as well as the fans. once an opposition scores our heads drop then when we start digging for goals its too late, fans have lost faith in the team as well as the coach there is that occasional glimpse of brilliance then again the same rubbish. Our players look weak , No height in the midfield and attack. no midfield enforcer , and most important no plan B.
I will be happy if we get a Europa league place if not Br has to go. we can get someone better than him if we try if we are ready to spend players like Cavani might come but we should show some proper commitment.
Get a Midfield enforcer to play along with Lucas or to replace him with if injured some one who can break the attack kick thier player and not run like headless chicken.
get a proper playmaker who can pass as well as shoot from distance , be honest Gerrard can shoot from distance now
Get a tall and a agile striker not someone like Carroll but like Dzeko.
10 mil for enforcer , 15 mil for a play maker and 20 mil for a striker,
Dont you think we can afford that, yes we can and if put at the right place we can even go for the top 4
just have to spend it wisely
Red 316

We havnt scouted class players since rafa was here the houlier years were a damning indictment of how wasteful and clueless parry and moores were how the hell we didnt embrace all the tv money like united did and redevelop the ground to make it as big as old trafford we should have just followed their lead surely the owners then should have seen what they were doing and followed suit

As is well known Sturridge and Ince will both be joining in January.

Redmond and Butland of Birmingham may join. But it also seems likely they will both stay thier on loan till the end of the summer.

Sahin is unhappy and will return to Madrid with Kaka coming the other way on loan till the end of the season. In the summer other No.10 targets will be considered due to a bigger budget, such targets are Isco, Eriksen, and El Sharrawy.

Don't be suprsied if we are seen to make a move for David Villa on loan but seems unlikely as Barca want a high fee.

Rodgers will not analyse the defenswe till the summer, however Coates may go on loan either to West Brom or Brazil.

Cheers,

hey fans...

i just feel so crap about liverpool these days..
i just dont see anything good happening here with the management we have and owners

nothing to keep the fans excited...nothing improving

i hope to god...gerrard doesnt sign..if he gets 1 last chance at a top club..i hope he goes just to get a medal
pepe should go and suarez should cos they deserve much better

we have just become a average team...with a famous name..thats it.........its happened to other teams so dont think liverpool are immune

rafas on to better things..he;l make chelsea awesome

spurs arsenal man u...way further than us...seem to have more money..and ultimately will get better players

is there anything to look forward too?

no...we go and sign sturridge..is that gona help...no not at all

i hope rogers go and the owners..all horrendous

ricky

Thanks Ricky for dropping by. If we've become an average team then you have become a an average to bad fan. No help whatsoever, 5 months in to the new manager's tenure & you want him & the owners burnt at the stake. It's fans like you that make me feel crap!

dd

Imagine where united would have been if ferguson was sacked early in his career.u people cant wait some time for us to improve can u.intant success is all people care for.
truered2

Hi DD please reply how can we help the team? by being patience? yes we are but we are venting out our frustration. Want to ask eweryone this question is it easy to be a Liverpool fan residing outside merseyside? NO. everyone makes fun of our signing our so called huge team and the result we have. even then the proper fans dont turn thier alliance and start supporting Chelsea or city. we are just angry so let us be , we are coming out with a BR OUT banner. we all want the best for the club. Honestly fans like you make me feel crap who wont let anyone have an opinion and feel whatever BR does is correct, NO its not . I can say Br is a GOOD choice for the moment but he is not the MESSIAH not yet for sure. Liverpool are a average team and our fans are blind they either believe the manager blindly or moan about every result. If we fans are to be blamed then KK BR COMOLI are to be blamed more than us.
They dont hear the rubbish we have to take as fans for opposition fans and have no answer as LFC is doing bad to worse.
I still have faith and we will get there May be BR is the man but we have to be very shrewd in the transfer market
REd 316

REd 316 'it's not easy' 'everyone making fun' ?? get a grip you little girl

Puzzled

Red 316, it's the easiest option to sit at a keyboard & write rude, angry & often ill informed words about LFC. That's because some fans get hurt by poor results & want an instance fix (a cuddle or a plaster if you like) so they call for the heads of who's in charge. BR has been in charge for 5 months, give it 'til the end of the season at least...maybe by then I will be complaining too. But LFC are where they are now through losing crucial matches in the last 20 years (I was there mate). We don't have a right to complain like spoilt kids about where we are now. So let's start again, it WILL take time.

Eds, how do you feel our attack will line up if sturridge comes in? I personally feel he should play crntral with suarez playing from the left and sterling from right. We need the central striker to play on the shoulder of last defender and run in behind. Sturridge has the pace to do that. He could prove to be a useful addition but the overall squad lacks in many areas. {Ed002's Note - I suspect that the plan is to have as flexible attacking options as possible.}

Someone needs to step in and stop this muppet selling andy carroll. We should get rid of rodgers before carroll. He's a Mickey mouse manager who is out of his depth. His brand of football doesn't work he has no track record. He has taken Credit at other clubs when it clearly wasn't him who got those teams to where the are. He has made us a mid table team where we will stay for as long as he is in charge. We need big andy back to change games like the other night. Those are the facts people so stand up for your club and make these donkeys that are destroying this club hear you.

I couldn't agree more with this post. Anyone with any brains would have seen that Andy Carroll was starting to come good after a slow start due to injuries and not getting a run of games.

The Cup Final, the league game against Chelsea and his goal in the Euros all showed that Carroll had his confidence back, he was almost unplayable and was chasing around, closing down from the front.

Then, in comes this muppet (good description) who has never proved anything and he is so stupid that he can't make use of an in-form and confident player, shipping him out before he's even had the chance to work with him.

To make matters worse, he then signs Borini, Allen, Assaidi, soon to be followed by Sturridge and Ince. I'd have Andy Carroll any day before the lot of those put together.

On the tv programme 'Being Liverpool' Rodgers had 3 envelopes in his hand and said they contained the names of people who would let Liverpool down this season. Two of them should have his own name inside and the third should have his P45.

It will be a scandal if Carroll is allowed to leave before Rodgers gets the inevitable push.

redmersey

The Andy carrol who setting the premiership alight now he's in a team who play to his strengths? That one?
How I wish we could add his goal tally for the season on to ours....

Ed great site and good work...
post this as this is real..

KK and commolli to FSG : torres wants out and we are short of one striker we get 50 mill and we buy caroll for 35 mill?
FSG : are you sure?..35 mill for a player with one year exp in PL?...or lets save the moneyf ro summer and buy someone better?

WE MESSED UP..

BR and Ayre to FSG : I need 15 mill for allen.
FSG : are u sure? 15 mill for allen?.
shall we go al out to buy erikkson or another better midfielder with 20 mill?
BR : No ways..joe allens is second to xavi, third to iniest and 4th to me..i only want him..
FSG : ok go ahead.

BR again : lets pay 11 mil for boroni
FSG : common boroni?...a player who has struggled so badly to get into first team..you want him to partner suarez?
BR : yes I worked with him, 4-3-3, thats ma formation.
FSG : ok done..buy him.

BR now : sorry boroni cant score lets buy sturridge
12 mill bargain.
FSG : are u sure this time, the guy is selfish, hasnt been in the squad for over 25 matches when torres failed to score...
BR : yes I am dead sure this time. he will score. 12 mill bargain.

and guys..you still want FSG to go out?? shed more money on players such?
shame...If I or you been the owner of anything, we would have never given a penny to him to spend. rather buy a NBA player who might score goals better than thses.

YNWA

Then why give him the job?
Eam

That was the one among these stuppid decision they took...
should have bought rafa back..atleast aston villa and stoke would have never scored 3 past reina....
He will be the permenant chelsea manager end of the season, they are going to win the league and FA cup..and excellent chance to win the europa league..
he is a matser tactician...knows the game better than roy and BR..
If bring him back was a step backwards then probably we need to go backeards to see when exactly weplayed in CL..

Harry you have no right to put YNWA in ur post after such abuse to a guy who is currently part of the liverpool family.

In this window we need to add 3 quality attacking options who will add goals to our team if we are to mount any challenge on the top 4. Daniel Sturridge is a decent buy for £12M. He will add pace power and importantly goals. Arda Turan,£16M - £19M, and Dries Mertens, £15M, are proven quality wide forwards we add goals on a constant basis and are the calibre of player we must be chasing if we are going to compete in the Premiership. The total spend of between £43M and £46M could in the main be offset by the sales of Joe Cole,£3M, Stuart Downing, £8M, Daniel Pacheco, £2M, Jay Spearing, £3M, and the eventual sale of Andy Carroll, £17M. This would leave FSG having to add approximately £10M to significantly strengthen our starting eleven.

Everyone talks about Andy Carroll costing 35 million euros do we know if we paid this straight up or was there instalments for the amount of games he played and fitness maybe? Because maybe we haven't paid as much as people think. interesting to find out if you eds or other reds might know

eds fellow reds , surpise surprise , h.rednapp and mancini have received letters from fa about comments. but not old purple nose .say no more {Ed002's Note - Why write this rubbish? There was no mention of Sir Alex Ferguson in the report from the referee. As such the FA have no reason to write to him. This paranoia is becoming laughable.}

Just because there is no mention of him in the match report, why does that mean he can't be punished?

It was there for everyone to see, and frankly it was a disgraceful example for any younguns watching the game - watching a knighted man disrespect the officials like that. He has brought the game into disrepute and I thought people were punished for that. {Ed002's Note - He spoke with the referee and the referee did not see it as noteworthy. Why this constant obsession with everyone else? It is nothing whatsoever to do with Liverpool.}

The "speaking" to the referee looked very much like shouting to me. It most certainly was not a friendly chat, Ferguson looked aggressive and angry and I was appalled watching it.

I think it is hard to argue that had any other manager done the same, they too would have escaped punishment.

It is not an obsession Ed, it is simply talking about the current goings on in the world of football from a Liverpool fans perspective.

B101

That's because Mike Dean is as terrified as all the rest of them of upsetting Ferguson, because he knows the consequences. He doesn't want to see his career stalling by crossing the path of someone who seems to have influence over who does and who does not referee Man Utd games.

There is no paranoia - it's real. Ferguson does what he did on saturday because he knows that the referee will be intimidated into giving the next 50 - 50 decision in his favour. These are the decisions that win or lose games and Ferguson knows that too well.

Whether the referee reported it or not, the FA should grow some balls and act upon what they, like everybody else, saw. Don't hold your breath though, not while David Gill is on the FA board.

redforever

Fergy not only followed the officials down the tunnel remonstrating with him he also delayed the kick off with his ranting something that wasnt picked up on hes a disgrace who is using all his cunning to get the officials on his side his team have been shifting goals all year now he uses all his experience to make sure they dont lose by the way he was out of the technical are most of the game yet the fourth official said nothing to him he should have been sent to the stands but old trafford is his castle and no one upsets him in there

28 Dec 2012 12:48:28
Quick question for Eds. Do you think we'll see Warner or Henry at Anfield again this season? Do you know why they are staying away? Is it because they fear the backlash from the lack of spending in the summer transfer window or are they just following other american owners stance and running the club from a distance?

RedDan {Ed002's Note - This has been dealt with on a number of occasions recently. The reasons they are staying away have been explained previously but there was a thought that the owners would be represented at a game over the holiday period. Certainly that was the intention earlier in the month.}

28 Dec 2012 12:47:56
I don't get how half of you think we're playin better football? All we so is pass with no end product. Ask yourselves this, what have arsenal won playing pretty football? 90% preparation 10% inspiration. If suarez isn't having a good game we have no inspiration. We play to casually and I don't like it

28 Dec 2012 12:45:19
I read somewhere here during stoke match that, stoke city players began to read liverpool's passing as they control the balll way longer ... is this a disadvantage of keeping the ball long time ??

FaZzY

It's a consequence of not stretching your opponents when in possession.
Possession is nothing if you don't use it correctly.

It didn't take Stoke long, 2-1 up after 12 mins

To be fair , Stoke had a game plan , that included pressing Liverpool very high up , looks like they had better tactics , on the day , not sure how we would beat them , the way we played .
redforever

It is the beginning of what BR is bringing to the club, comfort & confidence & speed over time will see us, hopefully playing how he wants us, irrelevant of superstar signings & sideway passing.

My only concern is no " plan B "
Piddy

The simple fact of the matter is Stoke wanted that game a lot more than we did! I do think a lot of the player's have issue's with the tactic's i:e the possession football without penetration! The team really need's to be a lot more direct with more urgency! All this messing about just outside your own box is not on! It invite's mistake's! You can see from some of the player's body language that something amiss!

28 Dec 2012 12:36:12
Just a follow on from my post last night Eds.

I'm not necessarily saying that BR should be sacked. I just think he and his back room staff are so out of their depth they don't know it. It showed in BRs face in the last post match interview.

FSG seems have appointed BR on nothing but POSSIBLE potential, which he may have. A lot has been said about Ferguson not winning anything for 7 seasons after his appointment at Man U. Well Ferguson had proven himself at the top level domestically and with European success. He also had vast experience as a player. BR had neither of these and this is becoming apparent in tactical play, transfers and above all results.

We have at best a group of good to average players with only a couple of exceptional players. We have an inexperienced non proven manager with no real track record of success at the top level. We have owners who, despite to their credit, making efforts to understand the history of the club do not really understand football or certainly practice management of a football team. We do not have the millions of pounds to buy the Messi's of this world.

NO cogs in the machine have proven success that translate to success on the pitch bar a couple of players. To make the machine work one of the major cogs needs to be proven and up to scratch.

I know we will not be able to attract the big hitting managers to the club if BR is ousted. However if we are to keep BR because he has potential then he will have to be less arrogant and possibly accept he needs a proven man or one with experience in the set up above him and also look at his coaching staff who do not seem to be up to the task.

I made a comment about attracting youn fans and players to the club in my last post for the sake of our future........what will get these supporters on board?

Will it be exclusively be sponsorship deals ect (which are also important for revenue) or will it be the excitement, drama and feeling of sweet sweet success of witnessing an LFC captain lifting silverware again and again?

RedDoc

I think that we might have got BR , 3/4 years too early , he needs to learn that in the prem , you need a bit of steel in your side , having so many light weight players looks really good on paper .
redforever

Why do people compare Rodgers to Fergie? Lets face it that SAF is a one off. BR will win nothing for Liverpool he has no past success and can't attract the big players

Did people know at that time that saf is going to be a one off success, no they didnt they took a chance.give brendon his fair chance.
truered2

Truered2

You've missed the point. Giving SAF a chance was different because he had already proven success at the top leve.

Giving BR a chance is a different kettle of fish....he has next to nothing on his CV. To compare him win SAF is apples ans pears.

BR is still learning his trade and its a huge gamble for LFC to allow him to continue 'unsupervised' on the back of the results and lack of progress so far.

Just a quickie. Was at the Stoke match with friends some Reds some Stoke. One of the Stoke supporters said to me if it was the school ground and you won the toss to pick your team first out of the 22 players lined up in front of you you would pick every one of the Liverpool players first. I had to agree. So why is it really that they didn't win?

Jack the Groove

No fight , passion or pride for the shirt unfortunately the players don't give a toss whether we win , loose or draw bar a few.

Stoke are more experienced, have a settled team and know the way they are expected to play. Plus they seemed quite a bit fitter.

Its really annoying when folks post here we can't compete with city and united for players...so whY the F***K have we always been among the top spenders in the league every year.simple we have been buying crap for years including under brendan

Brendan is young and needs time..rubbish!! Hodgson, kenny and even rafa needed time.so that excuse isn't good enough if he doesn't get the results he should be shown the door like the rest

We are playing better than last year?then you're crazy if you think so we created more chances.our tempo was quicker not under brendan we take so much time building from the back when what matters is scoring goals.Tiki taka is hurting the opponents with the ball, not racking up completed passes and pass accuracy without the keeper making saves

We have a young team for the future??there is no future in the premier league when there are teams like city, united and chelsea.if there was a future arsenal should have won the league a long time ago,now wenger has abandoned the strategy we are just trying to adopt

Rodgers is a good manager and would lead us to success?on what grounds, cos of the fact he is a good speaker or the plans he says he has for liverpool.he hasn't shown any sign of potential success and should be criticised like the rest.he has been in the EPL for one year,

Its kenny and comolli's fault?how much did city spend after buying the right players before they made top 4.I agree we didn't buy the right players, but kenny still led us to two cup finals and 8th in the league.his priority should have been strikers naaah not brendan we needed allen 15m,sahin 5m on loan, unproven borini for 11m,and 3m on assaidi.this guy didn't analyse the squad in anyway, then after wasting money he decides to go for players he should have gone since august on the last day of transfer.

I have nothing against sturridge and ince, but if we want to make top 4 these players can't get us there..why should we spend majority of our budget on two unproven players..potential alone doesn't cut it in the EPL

Transition has been over since under kenny he has steadied liverpool any manager must take us closer to top 4..simple

Why are so many people calling for Brendan Rodgers to be sacked? We lost to Stoke City at the Britannia, one of the hardest Premier League grounds to visit. United lost to Norwich and you didn't see United fans calling for Ferguson's head after that game!
I'm starting to become embarrassed by the treatment Rodgers is getting off our own fans! If you won't back him, go support another club, because this club deserves better support and so does BR.
Thanks Ed's,
AdamO'K;) YNWA!

UTD only looses once in blue moon...not every alternatice week...

Were you calling for Roy Hodgson to be sacked? He spent less than Bren, had an identical record, was kicked out of the club, went on to rescue WBA and is now England manager.
Why attack Roy but not Brendan? Are you another hypocrite?

Fergusson has 46 points from 19 games, Bren has 25. Can you see a difference there? Fergie has more league titles than any other manager. That is why no-one is calling for his head. He's been there and done it time and time again, he has earned his support. Only a fool would ask why is Fergie gettin more support than Brendan.
We have 25 points from 19 games. That is not good enough for LFC and history shows it was not good enough for our last 2 managers under FSG.

Why would they want to sack him?

Excellent reply...and the most important point...
History is just to be rememeberd..not to live up on...

Cant understand why people are comparing hodgson and br, we played the most pathetic football under hodgson.we r playin good under br but the results are not there yet.it will come in due course of time.
truered2

Well I do thank those supporting my post and those opposing me I respect your opinion, but you guys are living on past glories. We are not the powerhouse we once were but we will never get back to that position if we have fans like you's calling for the referee's head. Under Rodgers we have played better football. When Ferguson first joined United they finished 11th in his first season and improved over time. I trust Rodgers can do the same with us as he is a wise man. Rome wasn't built in a day. So you either accept it, or support another club.
Thanks,
AdamO'K;) YNWA!

______________________________
And by the way, not once did I mention Roy Hodgson. I admired Swansea's football under BR and I am glad we have brought him here. And if anyone wants to even try and say Rodgers has not proven himself as a manager, how did Swansea get to the Premier League? This is not directly aimed at you mate just a general statement.
Thanks,
AdamO'K;) YNWA!

By the way I didn't mean to write calling for the referee's head in that post!
Also thanks to truered2 for supporting me but I think we both know you just can't please some fans! No wonder most of them are unnamed keyboard warriors! We need positive fans not negative ones. Yes we did lose 3-1 to Stoke but if fans would see the brighter side of things we have improved hugely since the start of the season. We may not be in an ideal situation but its times like this when the club need the backing of the fans. The negativity of some fans is only making matters worse, isn't that right Ed's?
Thanks again to truered2 and anyone else who is with me on this!
Thanks,
AdamO'K;) YNWA!

Ask yourself this did daglish do as bad with this squad the answer is a massive no. We also played great football under daglish but it wouldnt go in the back of the net. I understand that the last 6 months were sh** but we still had fight and passion just watch the fa cup final to see this.

Now the passion is gone since rodgers has entered the club the players dont look like they can be arsed to even play its like they have just given up.

People say that we are in a transitional period and that it will take time to sort out the team but ask yourself this how long did it take harry redknapp to improve tottenham. It bloody improved in the instant he walked though the door. This has not happened with rodgers in fact things have gotten much worse.

Then there are the other people who say he had no money to spend. But look he did spend 30 mil. I am not trying to defend fsg who have been far from perfect but he did have money to spend.

As liverpool fans we need to put pressure on the owners the manager the players and the staff all to pick up there game. we cant just lay back and accept shi* we cant act like this new breed of fan who accepts second best we need to push every week for the best. Thanks for reading. Antrim Red

Sorry, were you not watching the second half of the season. You are just being childish now and ignoring that KD as great as he was only achieved 2 home wins in 2012 and made us the third worst team in the second half of the season.

You're a complete and utter turnip. 6 months have passed and you're not happy with the way things are? None of us are overjoyed at the mo but this kind of call-to-arms campaigning is best saved for when we have just lost 10-0 to Dagenham & Redbridge after selling all our players except Joe Cole. Kenny got more than a season so BR deserves at least the same before you start dialling a hitman.
Put pressure on the owners? Maybe if you ask the rest of the kids in your class you might be able to get a gang together to ring on Brendon's door and run away. person.

Haha kids in my class. You are the childish new breed of supporter that must enjoy lossing. You are the reason the club is in the state it is. You are the silent fans in the crowd that will not support the team. The club needs supporters not people who clearly have not fully developed a brain the club does not need supportes like u. You are sheeple. Antrim Red

the news today about butland I've known for weeks... and i posted a week ago re reina.
butland will be coming..
reina will be going - either jan or summer and will 100% be to london - likely Arsenal.

evz

Reina will leave in the summer back to Spain to finish his career - bet your pension on it. Butland is a very strong possibility to buy but leave at Birmingham on loan. Also regarding Birmingham, some sort of deal involving Redmond to us and Pacheco to them. RED LENIN

Reina will never sign for another British team! Fact!

If it is true about us looking to sign Butland then that probably means Reina is gone in the Summer given the fact Brad Jones just signed a new contract?

The players are not good enough. We have Suarez and that's it. Face the facts. Gerrards lost it, skrtel is skinny and soft, reina hasn't made a good save in 4 seasons, Enrique and Johnson can't defend, Sterling and Suso are 3 years too young, Lucas and Allen contribute nothing in front of goal and our manager can't attract good players only mediocre from past clubs. Disagree all you want but it's clear on a Saturday everyone agrees becauae around Anfield there is no atmosphere it's like being at the cinema. Only a change of manager who has the balls to try bring in top players would fix our once great club

I'll disagree to that one

Skrtel is skinny and soft?you have got to be kidding.and the atmosphere at anfield is because of the supporters not the manager.

"The owners are multi billionaires, what's wrong with buying a few great players now ?
They don't even spend the money the club generates over the season."
Baz f

This is why i worry of the intelligence of posters on this site. our last figures, baz, was a 50 mill loss over the year, how can you spend a negative figure? cause if you know of a way, please tell us all! fsg re invested the torres sum, within 36 hours of getting it. then went an spent 50-60 million on transfers and agent fees the following summer. its not their fault we blew 20 mill on downing, they dont know football players, but commolli an dalglish do...and they screwed the club over big time, putting us 5 steps back.
santi cazorla or downing? both 20m
eden hazzard or carroll? carroll cost more
jave garcia or henderson? both 16 mill
fsg have invested! its not their fault that moronic muppets like ayre an commolli sanctioned these transfers.
Benny baller

Have to say, seeing that Dalglish and Commolli really did mess up! If we could have got them 3 players we would be top 4 easily! Although wages would be significantly higher..
Henderson(65k), Downing(80k), Carroll(80k)=225K
Garcia(140k), Cazorla(70k), Hazard(170k)=380K

We would be paying an extra 155k a week in wages, but I suppose for those 3 players, that's not too bad, especially for Cazorla!

Santi carzola..will never join us coz..we are not in CL unless you pay double as arsenal pays....same with the case of hazard and garcia..
hazard would have come to us..the guy is greedy for money and would have jumped...
dude..y doont u understand...we cant pay huge wages like city and chlesea..
UTD and arsenal are in Cl..so no need to pay huge wages and they are consistently in CL and fighting for titile...
we are like stoke, sunderland, everton and new castle..
has any of these fans complained of not buying hazard, carzola or mata?

28 Dec 2012 12:54:04
Benny baller mate transfer fee has never been issue with FSG wages have been our main problem when comes to buy class players any class or world class player will demand wages closer to 130-160k aweek eg if Rodgers have 30m to spend in one player still can't buy class/world class players coz FSG are not ready to pay wages more then 70-80k aweek thise was same problem with kenny we sold torres raul babel who were on decent wages and tried to bring players on Cheap wages but paying huge transfer fee for them at that time owners were happy as our wage was dramatically cut down but now is starting to have effect on results. I think FSG need to be flexible with their wage policy if players who can take us to next level or can achieve us champions league footy then we should be able to offer them atleast decent wages rather then being stubborn.

Hazard's not on 170 mate, he actually earns less than Lampard who's on 150. Mata was on 60 and has just been improved to around 90. Plus foreign players pay higher taxes than English players. Torres is the highest earner at Chelski followed by Lampard. I'll rather pay Cazorla 120 than pay Joe Cole 90.

Hi Ed's, the reports of potential targets for the january transfer are quite suprising. Di Santo, why go for a player who has not scored many premership goals. Sturridge, yes has an eye for goal but very selfish and doesn't seem to understand the term "a team player". Are our scouts actually looking for good talent or just young up an coming. Surely the board have to see what is going on right now, simply we have a team of under achievers. Henderson, Dowing to call on few are simply not worth a sunday league team place. I know the board want to back BR, but our most recent best efforts come under Rafa, who yet again seems to be turning his majic at Chelsea. We need top quality players (I know CL football is vital to this) but longer term options are simply not working. {Ed002's Note - I have been unable to confirm any interest in Di Santo from Liverpool. Sturridge is a player that Rodgers wants and will get. The scouts are working very hard - I have no doubts. The board are acutely aware of what is going on at the club.}

All the great strikers were selfish. Being selfish for a striker is a big positive. RED LENIN

May I please ask this from the Eds and fellow reds , its been eating me up dearly inside for the past months.

In every Liverpool game this season we have hit crosses , high ones too , and the attacking power we have is non existant.
Do u think the pressence of Carrol in the squad , waiting in the box for crosses and the odd ball so he can missle it in the net with his canon leftfoot, but hed have to have a free role since he hardly tracks back , wouldnt it have been useful to us ?

Id really love to hear ur views on this, i love football and i believe that the big man may have made a difference.

Thanks in advance.

majority of ppl on this site are dumb and personic to say the least. all the moaning and anger shown towards manager and players, helps no one. yes there are certain players that arnt as good as others and may well be moved on. and the manager at least needs a chance to prove his worth, he himself is still learning. patience is key where all hurting at times, and yes we all get angry and pissed off and feel enuff is enuff. but givin time and the right resouces brendan will get it right, i have utter faith in him, and enuff of this, if he signs him its a joke and if he signs him where relegated. just believe in him and the team. and just maybe we will all be overjoyed at what will be achieved at ARE magnificent club.

Some of the posts about Rodgers on here are disgraceful. I think with the squad that he as at the moment have he as done well. People forget the terrible players left over from Dalglish reign and how hard it is to get rid of these players. I think we are going to have a strong second half of the season. Starting with three points at QPR.

Let's not have tinted glasses about king Kenny he left us with some bad signings that we payed big money for.

We have the right manager who deserves time and patience who is picking up the pieces from Kenny.

Did you think Roy Hodgson was doing well when he was sacked? His record was nearly identical to Rodgers in terms of money spent, squad inherited and results.
I thought Hodgson deserved to be sacked so I'm not going to be a hypocrit and say Rodgers deserves more time.

Hodgson inherited quality and bought gash. BR inherited gash. Big difference

What quality did Hodgson inherit compared to Rodgers?

The squads are nigh on identical except replace a demotivated Torres for a peaking Suarez.

You are wrong about what they inherited.

Hi eds, reds... Just a hypothetical question for ya! If by some weird scenario a Liverpool fan who wanted to remain in the dark wanted to donate 100 million to the club on the condition it was it was spent on players. Would the club be allowed to take it? Thank you , dr. Clippers....

Just went on the LFC site and looked at the blogs on the right hand side to see lots of "should Brendan get sacked" blogs.

WHAT!? Really guys??

The whole point of getting Brendan in was to implement his philosophy and we will only get better with time as the system gets more ingrained. Sacking him would be a definite step backwards, with a new manager we are not guaranteed to get better.

B101

Totally agree! Appointing him has moved us forward hugely! We are the same state as under Roy and slightly worse of than under Kenny. I have total faith in the concept that things have to get really bad in order to improve, thats why I have total faith in Rodgers dire stats and why I believe George Osbourne leading us back into recession and unable to get any economic growth is only a strong sign of future prosperity!

Same record as Roy Hodgson before he was sacked.
Are you a hypocrit?

I dont wanna sack him..coz..its pointless...lets just sit and watch the game..and reduce our expectations and passion..simple..
neither we can afford huge wages..nor we have CL to attract..
lets dont care what BR actually says in press conference..we dont have much options...
ince, sturridge, allen and henderson wont gift you a CL places over carzola, giroud, wilshere, hazard, mata, oscar etc...

Yep, six months and if youre not in Top 4 you should be sacked. The fans demand it. Steve McClaren next and then Sam Allardyce.
Patience, sustainability and long-term growth is never going to work, right?

cozinoz

Sigh... Why are so many LFC fans just so short-sighted and quick to judge?

Do you not see what we are building?

An attractive way of playing football complete through the club that the young players will grow into. We are not there yet - we were never going to do it that quickly. It will take seasons, but the enjoyment of watching this team grow will match no other. Remember these times in a couple of seasons when we will be ripping teams apart each week.

Jeez, he's only had 6 months and 1 striker for the majority of his time here. That in itself means you should be nowhere near decided on BR as a manager.

Be patient, give BR the backing he needs to thrive, and enjoy the ride.

B101

Good post B101, good to see that some fans have some respect for BR. I think we need to give him a couple years tbh, give him a few transfer windows and see where we are at. I don't even think we are far off, we have outplayed most teams this year but need finishers. Knee jerk fans are spoilt and need to get a grip.

Chris - re my comment on both recent and the current manager.I can only say it is a gut feeling that Rodgers will prove to be good for us. It cannot really ever be anything else can it - we cannot know the unknowable.

I think most on here (even the hero-worshipper called Waro) would accept that we gave Rodgers a very very poor squad with which to start his tenure. He came with a vision of a style of play he wanted, and he brought Allen to the club as someone he knew could drop right into that style. But the problems (and there have been many) have slowed any progress somewhat.

I think the vastly overpriced purchases of the last regime gave FSG some qualms about releasing too much money too soon. Add to that the farce of the Dempsey 'transfer' and being left almost striker-less
and Houdini would have had a problem getting us out of the mire.

The thing I hope is that Rodgers has some much stronger and more direct words in the dressing room than the ones he delivers to camera. The lads need
a VERY BIG wake up call and Rodgers needs 2/3
transfer windows - in essence - start using that big stick and then gradually bring your own brand of players in and remove some of the players at the club who have neither the heart nor the ability to improve us

Puzzledi

Puzzled, I agree it has been a gut feeling and I too had (still have a bit) that feeling that given time he could be great. Unfortunately my brain keeps kicking in and asking "why?"
As I've said before, no real success, no real experience and unfortunately so far no consistent philosophy.
I'm not saying sack him because I don't know who would come in but I think I need to see things happening soon

Chris in Tamworth

Like ed02 said it results buisness and he aint getting them he soent 30 million on rubbish allen has brought nothing there is no such thing as lt him have 3 transfer windows wat if were still getting beat all the time after a year u still going to say oh dont worry it will come good well reality check he aint done better then roy h and certanly aint done better then kenny so im afraid there is no progress enough said and if we ose to qpr it will mirror roy h blacburn defeat and that should be that bye bye rogers

grego

Rodgers has probably made a few mistakes but no more than any other manager regardless of experience.
But I still think he is the best man for the job at the moment and most of our problems come from the threadbare squad we have.
I don't see Rodgers being the type of manager to see all the gaps in the squad(say we are short of 5 decent players) and try and fill them all in one or 2 windows. He is the type that will wait until the right player is available.
I don't see us challenging until all the gaps are filled with the right players and that might take another 3,4 or 5 windows.
I also can't see us moving forward a great deal until gerrard retires.

If BR buys Franco di Santo he might as well never step foot in Liverpool again. Its bad enough he has wasted money on Borini and Allen now sturridge then he wants to bring franco crap di santo that is a joke. The owners should have sacked him by now.The worst start for 20 odd years he is useless. He should still be at swansea because the players he has signed are mid table players. I think he will be sacked in the summer the owners will not accept 10th place or 11th or 12th. To think they sacked Kenny for finishing 8th with a cup they are as clueless as Rodgers. {Ed002's Note - You might want to go and read up about why Dalglish was sacked.}

"franco crap di santo".... love it! the wit shown there is amazing!

28 Dec 2012 10:52:12
I don't understand why people believe the Di santo rumors, he's a bigger striker than we have currently but he's is terrible in the air and in my opinion can't finish. A cheaper option for a big front man would surely be recalling Carroll! To the eds is there a possibility of a recall for Carroll? And would he want to return?

Why are people saying our team is weak ???

Our squad maybe thin but for each game we normally put out 9-10 full internationals

At most we only have 2 youngsters playing at any given time so can't say we are a young team.

If Enrique and Suso were not Spanish they would have had international caps as well

Don't think our players have suddenly become rubbish - problem lies with the system
We are not playing to our strengths

Leam Red

Our team is weak because we don't have more than 2 players to put the ball in the back of the net regularly. The system is fine. Skrtel and Agger need to find their tempo and play better. Lucas needs long time to become consistent again. Reina is getting passed it and we need a replacement, certainly not Butland.

This is my take on the Stoke game and going forward.....

If you play Stoke bearing in mind they have an excellent home record you either a) play with this in mind and play them at their own game or b) play a totally different game to them .................we played neither.

If we played a) we should have had a more physical side on ..play Coates, Carra not Suso for instance and hit them on the break with pace ie Sterling

b) play the intended tika taka way which we are just not good enough or consistent at yet

As someone said earlier Shelvey played with no confidence which can go through the rest of the side.

To BR's credit he has turned round Enrique and to a certain extent Downing by dropping them.

Now I am going to be controversial here ......drop/rest Gerrard for a few games ...he's not consistent any more and does go missing at times. He is also likely to get injured at some point. Now, I am not saying he is the worst player by any means ...but think about it......we are likely to win 3 out of the next 6 games ..which ones god only knows .....probably win at Old Trafford knowing us and lose at QPR ........by dropping a legend this could be a catalyst for the others to step up to the mark and get their act together because if we carry on as we are ( win 2 lose 1 ratio) we will end up where we are now at the end of the season- mediocre. Also, SG will be chomping at the bit to get back on.We have to try something different.....think about ....how many Stoke players would get in a top 4 side ? the goalie maybe- that's it - we need to create a do or die mentality for every game ( aka Stoke) not the odd one in three

We need to try something different........I don't feel we have players to play 433 at present and alot of the problem is a disjointed midfield.I couldn't tell you who are best three in midfield is and I don't think BR knows either

To conclude, we should have been happy with draw at Stoke ...most teams are and we fell into their ( effective ) trap which is credit to them.

Liverpool players in the 70' and 80's used to to think they were invincible ..now what happens we win one match and some of them believe they are to the detriment of the next match and we are mediocre again.

BR is on a learning curve like alot of the players and we need to give him time becauase the alternative is what ? ......more upheaval

REDBOY

Win 2 lose 1 means we'd have 39 points.
try win 2 lose 2 draw 3.

Great post mate!

Instead of Suso, BR should have started Sterling. This was the main problem.

Wow did we draw that game at Stoke?

I thought we got gubbed 3-1?

This is aimed at the posters on here that have targeted Shelvey with abuse on his twitter account......what the hell is the matter with you? He is a young lad. He plays for the team you support. What has he done to warrant a level of abuse that has made him delete his account?
Seeing the style of a lot of posts on here, I can see the sort of abuse he would have got.
Why not get behind the team for a change? Why abuse any player, especially one of the younger ones?
I am disgusted!!

Because they can do it at home, hiding behind their computers.

Pay me half of Shelvey's wage to contribute nothing on the pitch every week and you can abuse me forever.

He's a man, if he can't take twitter abuse then don't go on it.

Reading below about Agger going missing against big strong teams.

I have noticed that too. He does not like it when it gets physical. However, I would like to keep him as a squad player unless silly money offered as he is excellent against teams that are not physical such as Fulham.

It would be interesting decision for LFC management if City offered silly money again! Personally I would sell if anything close to 25million and with that money bring in two centre backs that are quick, strong and good in the air.

I would love us to find a young Sammi Hyypia who would be excellent for us against the big strong physical teams; we have Coates but not sure about him yet.

Hopefully 2013 will see improvements in team.

Coates would have been ideal against Stoke in a 352.

Suarez villa an some else good up front, mouth watering.remember the Mcallister signing...o well back to reality an owners who will only buy 19 year old bench warmers.

When will BR learn to keep his mouth shut. Now quoted as saying that the purse strings will be loosened a bit next summer. Won't all the selling clubs be delighted to know that they can fleece us again. IMO he is really showing an incredible lack of cop-on. Keep it shut BR and do it the proper Liverpool way - quietly and behind the scenes ( I know it hasn't been done that way for a while now but we really need to get back to it)
Red Knight {Ed002's Note - Other clubs will have zero interest in what he says - the world does not revolve around Liverpool or what Rodgers has to say.}

Can it not be that he is trying to show that we hav no money now so that we dont get fleeced in january.

Rodgers should just resign all he's signings have been crap just like the results. 15 Million for Allen 12 million for Sturridge and now franco di crapo he is a joke a rubbish manager and a yes man for the owners. He has got so much abuse on twitter that he must know if he signs crap players the fans will not come. Who would pay money to watch franco di sato seriously. Rodgers OUT

How do you know di santo rumours are true, let me guess the always truth telling morally above everyone newspapers.

I think it's time for people to wind necks in a bit. Rodgers only in the job a few months a getting pelters already. Why do fans think we have the Devine right to be transformed overnight. Dalglish is mainly to blame. Carroll, downing,Henderson, Adam, Coates, Cole. Also was the one who decided INCE wasn't good enough to come through.
Yet BR gets once transfer window where Commoli was as useful as chocolate fire guard to him. Give him time. Anyone who reads or listens to what he does at academy level to date will see that this man bows what he is at. Also like
Y he will stick with us.. Can you see mouriniho, pep staying for next decade even if win odd prem league title..don't believe all you read here or papers regarding transfers as I have followed this forum for past 2 years and would love to see all transfer experts post their success rates of transfers that actually happened.

Please post

Did you say the same about Roy Hodgson before he was sacked?

They have identical records except Hodgson spent less.

28 Dec 2012 08:29:14
Pepe Reina's lack of form since the demolition of the petrol station, where he at one time topped off before every home game, may soon be a thing of the past with the 'new' January signing. Rumour is his superstitious mind, which requires a fill up at a specific location, will be put to rest as Andy Carroll is expected to return to Anfield as booze-laden as ever in a new capacity - a fuel source for Pepe's newly fit-up car which runs on alcohol. Will we soon again see the world-class shot stopper who has endeared himself to the Kop?

To many people on this site need to wake up to reality. We are a big club in name only, we cannot compete with the financial clout of the manc teams, Chelsea, etc. the idea of people asking for Brendan's head is pathetic. Yes we are not getting the results but the football we are playing is the best since Rafa. We need to give the manager time, he inherited a squad of over paid poor players. He has made mistakes but so do all managers. I seem to remember a certain manager had Mark Robins to save his bacon. That was over 20 years ago

I am not going to explain myself but i will just tell it like I see it.

1) Steven G should be stripped of the arm band and put on the bench , he has confidence and motivation to drive the players .
2) BR should not let his love for Jonjo not cloud his judgment.
3) BR should clear whatever bad blood he has for Suso, because he subbs him when he shouldnt, i watchd the kid play for our youth , pure class. Hes xavi and iniesta combined, he delivers those unimaginable hollywood passes.
4) He should stop playing suarez out of position , hes not a CF. Its not doing us any favours.
5) I really think he should speak less, he is turning out to be a load of hot air, he said he'd play sahin , the guy was running dortmund , u say he aint physically, well it doesnt get more physical that the bundesliga .
6) in my honest opinion, Downing, Cole , should not let the door hit them on their way out. Henderson needs to stay or he will come back to haunt us even worse than ince, this guy will be very great, he just lacks confidence.
7) pls pls pls play Yesil , he has a powerful shot . And play Assaidi , hes a wild card , he has more tricks than a magician .

Thanks for posting Eds

Oh my lord all your points are those who get a lobotomy 2or3 times a week. It's hurting the team playing Suarez as a central striker is it? What a load of utter rubbishe, nearly as much as you making stuff up about a problem Rodgers has with Suso, were so you get this garbage? I don't agree with everything Rodgers has done but I whole heartedly support him as our manager. Oh and I'd like to see Assaidi play a little bit more but please don't link his real life ability with his FIFA skill rating which i guarantee that is what you have done.

Eds fellow reds , it will be interesting to see what happens at Notts Forrest ,because the new owners will pump money .and I think they get back in the prem along with Leeds , so lets see in three seasons where there at because a lot of people on here think pumping money in is not the answer .but it is a money business now

Leicester have pumped money in for years and are still in the Championship. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I would say you don't just need investment to be successful, but a combination of investment along with good management, hard work and by making the right decisions

The value of players bought doesn't always dictate their success at a club.

Utd paid more for Louis Saha than they did for Christiano Ronaldo who were both purchased in 2003/2004.

Allen, Borini and Sturridge may become very valuable assets to our club in the near future and help improve our league position.

I trust BR to improve our team, but we clearly need time to improve. It seems as though it won't come together all in 1 season but I am prepared to wait in anticipation of the return to greatness and Champions league nights at Anfield again.

First and foremost we should get behind the team and manager if you look at the season so far if we are honest with ourselves we should already be in the top four a few bad decisions have went against us ie penalties with we're not given a few errors on the pitch have cost us just a little bit of luck from now until the end of season and we will be ok mayb not top four but certainly not relelgion like the doom merchants are crying about at the min.signings in jan well sturridge looks nailed on so does ince I'd like to see a proper cf like llorente a winger j navas and maybe frank lampard oh I hear the gasps think about it wouldn't cost that much and would be great in are midfield lets face he a hell of a lot better than shelvey Henderson Allen and downing

So much negativity on this site towards FSG and BR. It's about time you fans showed some respect to the very people who saved this club from going down the same pan as Pompey or Rangers.
I'm sick of hearing about King Kenny and Rafa. KK's second spell in charge was a total disaster, he lost the plot with the Suarez race situation, but he lost the plot long before that when he decided to spend 35million on Andy Carroll.
RB won the Champions league and FA cup, but what else did he do ? I'll tell you, he sold all our best players and brought in players like Alberto Aquilani, who cost a packet but were crap
I'm sick of hearing about how FSG won't spend big and buy 20-30 million pound players - Why should they ? Why should they spend stupid money and risk taking this club back to where it was when they bought it ?
You fickle fans wouldn't have a club to support if it weren't for FSG. They have a long term plan for this club and i'm affraid that takes time to develop and mould, it doesn't happen over night
They have brought in a young manager and in turn are bringing in good young talent, most of which are British, and probably the best young British talent available
BR can only work with the tools he has been given. He was let down a bit in the summer window, but again, the owners are not going to pay over the odds for medeocre players nearing the end of their days and for silly prices - I for one don't blame them
This is a long term project for FSG and they will spend what's required to improve this team, they have already shown that with the previous manager
BR needs and deserves time to build and mould a decent squad, and i think he's doing that. May not be as quick as we would like, but it will get there
It's all about putting the right pieces in the jigsaw together, but we don't have all these pieces yet. Come the end of this window, that jigsaw will be looking alot more complete
We are still one of the biggest clubs in this country, and Rangers were one of the biggest clubs in Scotland, but look where they are now and ask yourself why
It will take time, and i hope they give the manager that time, for they will back him every step of the way with whatever is necessary to move this club forward.....Slowly maybe, but very surely

Hi ed, lots of talk of of sturradge and ince coming in poss 1 more ,if thats the case , can we afford to let the cole and downing ie in team leave? does not make sense to get 2/3 in and let 2/3 go as the squad is so small??

ps keep up the good work {Ed052's Note - im not sure Downing will leave now - he has been playing well and a lot. I think Cole will still leave if a suitable move becomes available}

They're just not experienced enough.

Still doesn't mean we owe them a wage.

People on this site makes me laugh. After we win, all postive posts and loads of agrees. Soon as we lose, all negative, disagrees and people bickering. makes me think the general age on here is about 12!

We will be inconsistent for a couple of years, theres no doubt about that. FSG are doing the right things, and learning as they go. BR is a great coach and man manager. They are both in it for the long haul, sacking managers all the time gets you no where. SAF, DM, AW, all managers with teams that havent got oil selling owners...and they compete week in week out. See what they have in common? long term managers...

We are not chelsea, we cant buy who we want and sack every manager for the flavour of the week. They play like football manager, winning only cause of the stars on show, nothing to do with the manager or tactical genius of one. (still 11points of the top)

People need to wake up, get their heads outa their arses and be mature about it. You want BR gone? okay, lets sack him tomo, right, who do we bring in? urm...."pep is out of a job" "jose mourinho could motivate the players" i mean seriously....

The club was in a financial crisis to the point we could of ended up like leeds, coventry, pompey. We need to put that right, that comes first. Imagine if they didnt buy lfc, we had 6 points and were 3rd bottom of the league, it was said we would have gone into administration within a week of when they actually took over. Thats a 10 point deduction? (eds?) so -4 points, with roy in charge. We wouldnt have been able to afford to sack roy and bring in kenny when under admin, we would of had teams cherry pick our players in jan, would never of got 50m for torres, never brought in carroll, or suarez, never been able to afford the high wages and contracts woulda been cancelled, and all in all, would probably be lining up against burnley at the weekend.

But no, only 2 years after this we want big name signing, world class manager and top 4.
It were said lfc fans were among the smartest in all the world...i sincerely doubt that with the abuse posted on here and to the family of JW henry. Genuinely makes me sick.
Agree/disagree, i couldnt give a toss, i know ill be watching my beloved reds on sunday, hoping they win.
Benny baller

On stats worst season since 1954,at the very least Rodgers should be run outta town.

Rodgers is a tripple A plonker way out of his depth.

The worrying thing is why don't we have the money !!!!!

The owners are multi billionaires, what's wrong with buying a few great players now ?
They don't even spend the money the club generates over the season.

FSG are balancing the books ,obtaining planning permission to sell the club for a profit. That has always been their plan.

Hi Eds

One question for all Liverpool fans:
PLEASE ANSWER HONESTLY:

Are we better than this time last season?
BR has had nearly 20 games to sort out a system, can you see that system and does it, in your opinionm, work?
Who, in your opinion, recommended managerial candidates to FSG? Ayres or was it someone else?
Is it strange that Chelsea, CL winners, should appoint a manager who love our club, lives in our city when we (LFC) don't even call him for an interview?
Whose fault is that? If it's a mistake, who should pay the penalty?
Do you agree with absentee landlords?

These questions have been haunting me, guys, please let me know what you think to help me come to terms with what's happening to my beloved Liverpool!

sorry for the long post!
Iranred in London {Ed002's Note - Rather more than one question as well. (1) I think Liverpool are better placed to move forward than a year ago. (2) You probably do not want to hear my views on such tactical systems. (3) It was someone else. (4) It is nothing to do with Chelsea nor Benitez. Liverpool needs to look forward not back. (5) It is not anyone's fault that Benitez was not interviewed and why should anyone pay any penalty for it? (6) I understand completely why the owners stopped attending games and can do nothing but agree with that decision. As an aside, I was told that they would perhaps attend a game over the holiday period.}

Mr Iranred

Please answer honestly: where were you when Kenny was in charge?

The owners listened to the fans and appointed Kenny; the rest of the story you know.

They would have known about Rafa when H & G were in charge; so why do you think they didn't appoint him right away since he was available then? Could it have been that Rafa might come with baggage?

Read Nick Miller's article on his beloved Forest sacking of O'Driscoll and why owners should not listen to their fans - those who do end up schizophrenic.

FYI Forest has appointed Alex McLeish(!) If FSG listens to you, sacks Rodgers and appoints someone else like Hughes or RDM (as some joker suggested here yesterday) the repercussions will be unthinkable!

Ed, do you honestly see Liverpool qualifying for a top 4 finish or even a top 10 finish this season with the current fire power, including Sturridge? I think we should be looking at a foreign striker who may come available. British strikers aren't that prolific against foreign strikers in the premiership at the mo - (Van Persie, Suarez, Michu ,Mata)
The German and African Nations produce excellent goal scorers with good reputations for hitting the net, without costing stupid prices of home grown and unreliable talent. Even if we have to spend 20 million plus on one player other than getting 3 british players for the same, it makes sense to go for the latter. {Ed002's Note - I don't see a top four finish and never had. From the start I said Liverpool will be in the mix for the Europa places and I will stick with that.}

I can't even see us being in Europa league place's at the end of the season!

Hi eds, hope u all had a good christmas.couldn't believe what I was watching wed night. we need height and strength in midfield, don't think ince has that, diame we need for sure, even tho he's injured.noone from cardiff, quality player, great left foot and delivery.stevies best days are behind him, unless rodgers gives him freedom to roam.sturridge will end up playing on left.

A manutd fan here. I have read some posts and some of them were moaning about lack of a midfielder who sits in front of the back 4.
I am sorry but isnt Mr. Lucas ur season rescuer supposed to do that
i mean u guys were moaning about his absence and how u missed his rough tackles and accurate passing from the deep. Now he has come back what else do u need another player for. Its not like since u are liverpool, the refs arre gonna let u play with 13 or 14 players

United is the only team that plays with 13 or 14 (or more) players, 12 on the field and 3 along the touchline. This has been going on for years as has the 95 minute matches when the team is behind. p.s. I think the team is 'behind' as well.
AK12

Well why not...utd play with 12 every week??

km

Wat the hell was that.was it just me or has no one understood his point.the only team with 12 players on field is united

Sometimes a fergie wobbles onto the field to make it 13.

Hi fellow reds,a few ideas put your way 1, how about recruiting liverpool legends to manage the club ,e.g they know what its like and whats expected e.g Hansen ,Hamman ,Carragher,Hyppia long succession of former players and then only recruit from within like the boot room.
2, let the fans know before summer transfers and jan transfers how much money available and what players are available so all the votes are text through cheap rate of course as surely thousands of fans would vote ,top votes win and fans happy as they feel even more involved with the club and manager happy as he knows the majority of fans like the new signings.
3,fans should get the chance to sponsor a player once a year a loan signing from a wide choice again by text and all money raised can help with costs .
4,have a board with at least 4 fans on it who represent the fans who can relay all our hopes and fears to the owners .
Has anyone else got good ideas ,opinions as i believe fan power and ex players could really turn around our great club -SALLY-

Hey eds.
This Suarez to man city must be bs surely?

Also can everyone shut the hell up. There are 3 outcomes of a single match. Win lose or draw. If we had beaten stoke... A strong decent team who have held the best you'd all be super happy now. A draw would of gone without comment.

We lost. Get over it. You're going to cause move problems than there are.

Have faith or pop off and support Chelsea or man united. (Sorry ed 2)

Is that possible to support chelsea and Man utd?
they wont entertain us dude...we should or can only support teams below us..
Chelsea and Man Utd have much higher fan base than us...they dont need us to support them...
they have enough

He will be gone soon and nobody can blame him if they all want to settle for this mid table rubbish. why would he stay if he wants to play champions league or wants to win things. liverpool are light years away from either.

28 Dec 2012 01:22:43
Just like to share my opinion with my fellow Reds here....

We have seen our team performing inconsistency so far through out the season. Looking at our team and comparing ourselves with Man Utd, really we have a decent squad that could compete with the like of Man Utd,City n chelsea. 3 of our back four would be in Man Utd line up i would think so and there Gerard ,Lucas in the midfield plus Suarez and the talented Sterling. These players would be in the current Man Utd line up i would think. Don get me wrong im not an Man Utd supporter.

The big difference to me is the Manager. How the Manager motivate his players , the correct tactical approach, mental approach, building confidence in the team is all the recipe needed for the team success. And nobody is better than Alex Ferguson at the moment. How i hate him but u have to admire his leadership.

He brought back Scholes n Giggs not because of their current ability. They have passed their best but by bringing them in the team and playing them , it bring confident and hunger towards the younger players. The younger players will play with more hunger seeing the "old men" running around the field for90 mins squeezing every bit of energy they have left fighting to the end so the whole team can win.

Brendan certainly can and have to built these kind of motivation and momentum in the team. Play the like of Carragher if u have to and see that old man fight and play with his never die attitude probably would sent a positive message to our young players.

SADLY , we have players who plays with their head down and i was observing Shelvey during Stoke game. There no confident in his game and to me he was really lost throughout the game.Evrytime he lost the ball or misplace passes the head would go down. There is no passion. The team leadership have dissappear sadly.

All im saying is we have a decent squad, probably still short of winning the title but decent enough for top 4 but sadly we are not playing to our strength.Brendan need to reinvent the winning mentality and figthing spirit back to the team.
Any sport in the world will tell u that pure ability ifself doesnt make u a winner without mental and emotional strength and my opinion is Liverpool has the ability but lack in confident and mental to win matches.

Sorry for long post..ty

Confidence comes with winning games consistently, we need to grind out these wins and make it into a habit. Jdog

Brendan Rodgers is not a passionate man, nor is he an intellectual,he should have steered well clear of the documentary!I have my doubts and have had them from day one. These doubts seem increasingly justified.I get the impression that he no longer believes his own hype, you can see it in his eyes,i don't think the players believe it either and this is whats worrying !!

Yep, and Fergie was given time. Utd is the best argument for stability there is.

Andy K

I agree Shelvey needs to be screamed at and told to ppull his fingerout, not an arm around his shoulders

This is spot on, I was going to say something very similar and we have to remember that BR is a very young coach, with not much experience. For him to come to Liverpool was always a huge challenge, we can just hope that he grows into the job! Maybe he has to give up some of his philosophy to be more result oriented in the strongest league in the world. Don't forget Barcelona got knocked out by Chelsea who parked the bus from the CL!

HK

So 7 of your mid table team woudo get into the league leaders team? I admire your optimism but come on. I know you all rave about Johnson but we are more than happy with Rafael who is turning not a great player. Evra might be old but Enriquez? You were all slagging him off not do long ago. Centre halves maybe but only because we are in transition passing the baton from Vidic and Ferdinand to Smalling and Jones. Gerard, no chance. Maybe a few years ago but again like Giggs and Scholes his best days are behind him. Suarez? Great player but not instead of Ronney or RVP. Sterling would probably get in the team. I'm not trying to be clever, just don't see how you can think 7 of your team who are struggling to get into the top half of the table would walk into a team that is 7 points clear.

AJH

I agree with what you say. BR has gone to the length of getting a sports psychologist in.

What really concerns me is that BR himself and his back room staff cannot motivate the players themselves. This may mean that BR has lost the changing room and credibility with the players.

When you have a group of good players with a few 'world class' players that are failing to perform individually and collectively the only thing you can conclude is that the management, coaching and leadership should be under scrutiny.

I accept that a few players are passengers and simply need to go but we do not have any 'bad apples' who are disruptive and not team players. Dare I say it I think the major problem is they do not believe in BR (his philosophy ) and the back room staff......lets see what happens at QPR

28 Dec 2012 09:39:34
Absolutely spot on mate, said everything I wanted to say but a lot better than I could have

Liverpool are 5years+ away from winning the title, this is laughable!

DodgyBanter

Seriously mate none of our players would get in the Man U first team apart from maybe Reina, Johnson and Suarez. Man U also have a great attitude and mental toughness and do not roll over like we do when the going gets tough. So you may be right in that it is the manager.

Pompey Red

I have supported liverpool since 1964 so i class myself as a long time fan. I dont know what you are watching lately if you honestly think that 6 of our players would get into the man u side. Even suarez would struggle to get in because it seems to me that all their players look up and play their team mates in when in and around the box, thats why they score so mant goals. Before anyone says i am a man u fan, i have hated them since i was a teenager
jaycee

I can't believe this post has so many people agreeing with it. Ty you're not supposed to agree with your own posts!

Ajh considering rooney or vanpersie better than suarez is a joke, yes persie scores a lot and rooney runs a lot ,but suarez is much much more in terms of turning defenders, scoring, trickery and most importantly footballing brain he would get into any team in the world.
truered2

Truered2, no he wouldn't, which is why he is playing for a mid table English team. I like him as a player, he has some brilliant skills and he always worries us...but I wouldn't play him instead of Rooney or RVP. I respect your view of Suarez but it differs with mine.

I supported United through out 'lost years' which lasted a very long time - like it or not you are stuck with a rebuilding job. I know you are all desperate for a return to the glory days but it aint happening any time soon. Sorry, just a fact of life. Not for me as a United fan to give you alla dvice...but reading your site you all need to stop tearing strips off each other and support your team. Just saying...

Boot room blarney- struggling now but doing best we can with what we got and BR cannot do anything until January as he has tried nearly all his options with the players he has now ,i believe as well as sturridge we will be getting a great player in but they are keeping it secret as not to alert any other clubs e.g spurs , i believe this deal has already been worked on from the start of the season and i think suarez ,gerrard ,lucas know who it is and thats why they are still here ,believe hard enough and anything can happen ,red always .

Keeping it secret?! every man and his dog knows about it!

We dont have money to get this so called great player you think we are going to get, also br has done all he could with what he got yet he hasn giving the fine talent yesil a run that lad could solve alot of are problems but not getting a look in.ray

Anyone else heard about an interview that David Villa gave today in Spain about possibly joining Liverpool in January on loan. I heard he praised up Gerrard an Suarez as being world class any info eds?

PAULMONDO {Ed052's Note - not heard about the interview}

28 Dec 2012 00:13:19
would like to ask eds and others for opinions: assuming sturridge is on his way, will he be played on one of the the wings and retain suarez in the center or will sturridge play centrally and therefore push suarez out wide.

personally id like to see sturridge centre and suarez out wide in support for the simple reason that suarez isnt as clinical as sturridge.

redrodge {Ed001's Note - I would expect both to interchange.}

Sturridge now is clinical??
24 games wen torres failed to score...
means over 4 weeks of football..
sturridge coudnt even make a start..

All the great teams in the history of English football have had their fair share of hard men. This is a department in which we are sadly lacking at the moment. As well as a box player we need a McMahon or a Souness type warrior who's prepared to put a foot in and leave it there.Pass and move is fine but sometimes a bit of Vinnie Jones style clattering the opposition is required,it gets the crowd going,it gets your team mates going.I grew up watching Leeds United, take my word for it and if you can't take mine ask any stoke fan.We have become like Arsenal,we don't like it up us !! Beardsley's Boot's

Exactly what i've been thinking. We need a player in the middle of the park to do what Sissoko used to, enabling our ball players to thrive.
We also, in my opinion need a dominating CB to replace Agger, who is a very good player, but ive always wondered about his bottle.
I'd like Shawcross to be honest, & Etienne Capoue alongside Lucas in midfield.

Mick D

Shawcross to LFC,that makes two of us !! Beardsley's Boot's

Agree about the middle. Do not agree about Agger at all.

Andy K

Shawcross is a good player but think he would get red carded too much to be worth his while. I agree a strong mid player would be beneficial but someone a little more technical and sharp than a thug like vinnie Jones!

Gareth

This is crap...
we need a play maker very very urgent....honda would fit the bil...

Som1 lyk diame
he was terrorising us until hr gt injurd

Im getting pis#ed of with everyone talking for Brendan's head. Ask yourself, realistically and honestly, who would replace him. Take everything into context. I will answer to anyone's comments.
Joe

I agree i don't know how many managers who could've taken a team like ours, rebuilt it at the rate he has, he kneeds some credit, he was only in the door a couple of weeks and he has replaced older high payed players with younger up and coming players. He has filtered youth into our side and has us playing attractive football. Our defensive record is generally good, what we kneed is more goals, we are getting more players into the box now and we are looking like signing 2 or 3 attackers.

Personally, from what I know, I'd go for Borrell as an interim until summer.

But- I know only what I see on the TV, I'm not in the dressing room or on the training ground.

If I were the owners though I certainly think I would be asking tough questions. Since I don't know the answers to what those questions would be, the above opinion is admittedly based on a position of ignorance and it's entirely possible that my knee jerk reaction to a rather horrid first half of the season would be 100% wrong.

For sure. Rodgers needs time and at least he is willing to try and rebuild what we do as a team RATHER than what is seems most on this site want which is to throw loads of money at players and sign top quality we cant afford and have a more instant success but no longevity

For me rodgers has to be smart and make gerrard be our driving force again..our team is too average for him not to make our best attacker after suarez have more of an impact.take away his defensive duties and release this guy with suarez upfront .his tactics are nullifying gerrard. to even think brendan rates shelvey as a better number 10 than gerrard is purely stupid

Slate stevie all you want,he doesn't defend gives away the ball blah blah blah..he is still our best midfielder and until brendan looks for a system for him to be more relevant till he can find a replacement then no need making him look terrible when we know gerrard is far better than what we see this season

Face facts, Steven Gerrard is half the player he was 3 years ago.He is as guilty as most of our players for poor performances. He is being played because he has a 'C' beside his name. His performances have been as ordinary as the rest of our midfielders.

BrisbaneLFC

We've got a squad who the vast majority could play together for the next 6-8 years and you would like to see the manager set the system to help Gerrard who has maybe 2 years of 10 decent games a season left in a 50-60 game a season campaign? Would it not be better to set a system that brings the best out of Suarez, Sterling or Suso or Sinclair or anyone who might be there to benefit from it?
I'm not a Gerrard hater btw (probably the most influential player I've seen in 30 years of support) but not one a this stage of his career to base the whole team around.
Just my view.

Simon

The system might not suit gerrard down to the ground but he has improved. because he is one of the older players he probably took a while longer to get used to the new system but 3 in 3 atm so keep it up im happy out shelvey has struggled for a while now but he will improve he needs to know there is competition for places and seems currently there is not

If I could understand what on earth your saying young man I would attempt to respond ?

Oh dear whatever happened to the english language?

Eds when did this become a site only for the under 16's ?

Are youngsters deliberately trying to create a new english language that no-one over the age of 60 will ever understand ?

I must be getting really old... in my day I would have been given a 100 lines for writing the above

Well in haha. i was watching a game earlier in the season and could hear a strong dublin accent screaming at suso and allen (cheering them)i thought the voice sounded familiar rang the guy who i thought it was.and sure enough he was in anfield i thought that was class but did wonder how i could only hear him.

Do you no what mate you most probably got people disagreeing because of the grammar than actually readin the text(which I hate about this site)but it is spot on.

I wonder if BR put his name in one of those envelopes along with Colin Pascoe and Downing as the ones to let the club down as shown in the LFC program?

I reckon he has a few more envelopes now :-)

Was it just me or did the envelope thing not even make sense?he said he had the names already in there and then said make sure your name is not one of them

These owners are acting as a business which is fair enough but get us to a competitive point first then do it we are just another newcastle now. Maybe tottenham dont spend much. Buy our squad is not strong enough yet if we are challenging then yes maybe have a year to make a profit. Why are liverpool football club not on the same level as man city chelsea tottenham arsenal these are teams we have been bigger than all our lifes. Now we are so so so far behind and yet again we have another tramsfer window coming and going. Why domt we sign torres alonsos anymore. Thats hpw to be succesful. Its so sad how far our clubs went downhill and for all this were on the up we should never be down. On the up why weres the evidence were sitting 10th and struggling to compete financially hardly what id call "on the up"

Not all our lives

We have got some amazing fans, . Jonjo Shelvey close his twitter account because of abuse from OWN fans. WOW

Some so called fans are just disgusting! Makes me sick! Back the team or h*** off. Apologies for the profanity

M

He needs to.....simple as that..he was awful..and we cannot support awful players for a long long time...
if you commit a mistake at home?..your parents scold you or support you to continue the same again and again?

Maybe they are not all liverpool fans like on here you can never know..anyway he better off it..

Society is broken.

Nick

This is the worst story I have ever read about Liverpool fc , fans who abuse our players should be found and banned from LFC for life.
This abuse needs to be stopped including the abuse of john henry , Im not a fan of fsg but to abuse anyone like this is disgraceful.
