I watched the Bayern V BVB game today.
(I didn't finish as the Mrs came home, She moans when footballs on, Every game that's on TV it's on my telle, So i understand a little now) Anyway, sorry for the ramble. While watching the game, When they was one nill down, the sheer passion the players had, Spuring each other on, i don't see this at Liverpool. No motivation. No passion. No nothing. It's upsetting.
Am I the only one that thinks this?
It makes me want Klopp even more at our club. He seems to motivate the players.

i would just like to say something that is worrying me maybe the eds can help, with the way we are playing and not many good players at the club how will we be able to attract top players without champions league as well as not playing good football and seeing a manager who does not know his 1st team players or the fact that the player we want will get played out of position

with BR being so stubborn with his tactics and players and playing players in positions they don't know that well and that means we are weak in those positions because the players are unformillier with that positione i would rather have a winger playing on the wing most manager would do the same, but not BR as i think he is trying to prove a point to the owners and the fans and the media why else would he act so irrational any way i will be glad when the season is over so we can start the healing of the club process and i don't know if BR is the right manager to do that only next season will show us,

on another note, the way we bought a lot of player last season, i think it was needed because last season we all moaned that the squad was not big enough and because of this we had to buy quantity not quality i remember watching a game and saying to my mate look at the state of the bench, at least now we have a stronger squad in terms of how many players we have now, so maybe in the next transfer window we will buy a few quality players let hope anyway

Just re your last point, our bench for the semi final of the FA cup against Villa was Jones, Johnson, Toure, Lambert, Manquillo,Borni and Baloteli. If I would be Wigan manager for next season (legue 1 mind you) I don't think I would be too excited to see any of those on my bench.

why don't you include lucas and sturridge i know they are injured but come on are you trying to say you prefer last seasons bench , i was just pointing out (you must have missed my point ) we never had a big enough squad last season this season we do they might not all be world class but we do have the numbers now and as i said this summers window we should get quality players in meaning the players we have now are not the quality players we need or want, again you must have missed that point , oh well let's just hope the club gets all the players you want , for me if lambert and ballo would have got more games i think they would have got more goals but in BRs wisdom he never played the strikers instead he chose to try and convert a winger into a striker completely ignoring the fact he had 3 other strikers at his disposal , lambert done pretty well last season , we know ballo can score goals when he can be bothered and borini did score at sunderland so they can score when they get games have to agree with you on johnson and toure though but they are liverpool players and i support them

Think we do have a lot of players who don't contribute enough to the team but so have a lot of very good players and a fair amount of good players. Problem is a lot of them don't play their best position or don't have the right players around them to get work with.

Can very good player but midfield is his best position - plays most of the time at full back or CB which he can play but limits him.

Coutinho - brilliant player but a number 10 and doesn't seem to have a lot of movement around him or players to link with so ends up dropping deeper and deeper, looking for someone to pass to then having to shot from distance.

Sterling - good player but more effective centrally and again behind the strikers, played striker and winger (also can't cross and has no one to aim at anyways!)

Henderson - again great CM with loads of energy and improving, spends most the season doing to players jobs as no one centrally (par lucas or if played can) has the ability to compete) or being pushed to RB

Markovic - talented AM, mainly plays RB

Lallana again good player who can play wide put hasn't played much and still a player not sure we needed.

Moreno - looks a talented attacking fullback but plays Wing back in a defensively weak team.

Lucas very good player - struggled with injury

Sakho, lovren & toure are good CB who either struggled with injury or confidence barely played together and have no protection from midfield and GK still invites pressure.

Studge great but injuries worry me (but be curious to know if we do enough to monitor his fitness and work with protecting him) but still should have another striker and not put all our chips on him.

Also have ibe flanno ojo who can impact more next season and Tbf Lambert wisdom ilori can play a good role of not vital. So provided we can raise funds correctly think their is room to fix the team but also seems like a lot of players were bought who are good but maybe not necessary or not utilised correctly - saying that a buy loads of players I like in FiFA because I like them and occassionally play my keper up top but again not paid a fortune to do it or waste millions along the way, but did win the FA cup

What happened to Baloteli this season is one of those football mysteries that no one can answer. I am not willing to blame this one on BR sorry. He got many many chances, from the bench and in the starting 11. He wasn't injured, didn't have any major issues off the pitch. Liked by the fans. As if he was replaced by a 40 years old guy.

Re having the numbers. I am sure last year we had someon to sit on the bench. The fact that some of the names on the bench earned more money or had more history wasn't relevant if when coming on couldn't score or couldn't defendt for the life of them. Thsi is not qauntity, this is like air on the bench.

at our pre-season in america John W Henry said himself the team needed more depth so that is why we bought so many , i don't get what your trying to point out , we needed more players and bought them is that so hard to get , yes we would have all liked better quality players but paying 25 mil for lallana was too much , also are you trying to say ballo is not a good player , we all know how ggood he can be except you , coming off the bench is not the same as having a lot of games on the run , do you know the difference about being fir and being match fit , if your not playing every game your not match fit its that simple when your match fit you are a yard quicker in your head , but saying that who knows what goes through Ballos head , but i did not want us to buy him and i did not think he would be any good for us , but everyone knows he has got it in him to be a top player otherwise all the top clubs he has been at would not have bought him , a lot of fans thought he would come good i never . but like the other players we bought he added to the squad we now have a bigger and better in depth squad , again i will tell you the owner said we needed a bigger squad and i agreed with him at the time , to be honest we got some good young players who people in the know say they have great potential like markovic , Cam and even moreno , if you don't agree with me that's your right , but now i don't really care what your opinion is I've tried to inform you about the squad size and its obvious your not happy with that because of the quality of the players , lallana and sturridge and lambert lovren all had good seasons last season this season they have not its life get over it

I'll say it happily- Balotell is not a very good player. If it wasn't for all the off-pitch nonsense, he would have faded away into obscurity before now, as it is I still suspect that by the time he's 30ish the only thing he'll be known for is a trivia answer to a question around 'why always me'.

Last season he took over 150 shots in Serie A, 95 of which were from outside the box. Want to hazard a guess as to how many of the 95 went in from open play?

His biggest season ever was 14 goals last year for Milan. Of those 14, 7 were penalties and free kicks, meaning he scored as many open play goals for Milan last year as Sterling has for us this year. And again, that was his best season in his career. I really struggle to see what about him people think is actually 'good'.

As for the previous question, the answer is 2. 2 goals from open play from 95 shots outside the box. Awful, awful stuff, that.

Agree2 Disagree1

29 Apr 2015 04:24:38
3 OR 4 quality players would have added depth by pushing some of the players from last year onto the bench ( ie gerrard) we have loads of potential coming through the academy and we sent last years 'potential' buys out on loan ( aspas, alberto etc) instead of giving them a second season having settled down. we then spent 115 mil on yet more potential??? the squad is/ was in need of top quality players not top quality potential.

You, I'm sure,
Would take this, no more,
And we could make Champions League.

the season is already over anfieldpete , hull are fighting to stay in the prem and we are playing like the season is over ( down to BR not motivating the players ) so i can only see one out come and that is a win for hull, it makes me feel sick because us fans keep going to the last wistle our season does not end in may because we then look for signings and wait that long wait to see who we get while the players go on holiday , we have too many under performing players in the 1st team , don't get me wrong i want us to play well and win , i would even settle for a decent performance shooting at the keeper is not a good thing so if we have plent of shots but don't score then to me that's not a good performance its a lazy one , oh well i'm looking forward to the transfer window and if we get james milner then for me its a step in the right direction , the club is sick and needs healing , i don't know the cure its easy to say buy this player or replace the manager but it won't fix it

Our season were over after the home 0:0 with them in October. Everything that happened since December was a bit of an optical illusion. I just hope Ian Ayre record this box to box run of Glen Johnson, add it to his bizzar diving goal he scored earlier this season and send these too only minutes this season he was not absolutly awful to all the clubs in Europe, hoping they didn't watch any other play from Johnson this year. As things stand we will be so lucky if anyone take him on loan. If anyone pay any fee for him they must be blind.

Sturridge

thanks Macca for the info

i am very pleased that we are getting Milner, he has a lot oif experiece, energy and is a TEAM PLAYER, we can't really go wrong with him i know a ood few on here don't like him or want him but i hope these fans will hold their hands up on this site andsay how wrong they were about him, i will even go as far as saying he could turn out our best signing of the summer, i do think he will hit the ground running and show us what he has got, he will work his socks off for the team and is better than a lot of players we have at the moment his work ethinc is amazing signing him is the right direction and i hope the cllub continue to sign players like milner, put it this way he won't be a bad signing and he has never really had a great run of games at city but they have always kept him plus he will score important goals, i think the reason man city won the prem last season was mostly down to milner because they were finding it tough when they played us last season he came on and turned the game in their favour and he stayed in the side and because of his work rate and experience it helped them so much, if anyone does not believe me look at the man city's run in and see how he played and how the team played with him in it, for me him and jordan henderson will make a great partnership and they will turn games in our favour with their energy and goals

Agreed mate.

I said it the other day about Milner.

It makes sense that many of his international teammates play for our club and he wouldn't have to re-locate to play for us.

We will be one hard team to beat with both him and Henderson in midfield, and I don't say that lightly.

I'm sure I'm open to abuse on this one but this is a typical Rodgers signing this one.

Oh yeah, optimistic I know, but he'll give us some grit and would give any team captain competition.

It makes so much sense.

i have to agree with the 1st and 2nd replies , this signing is a no brainer because he is a player with a great attitude a great work ethic and over all a great team player if he can't score an easy goal he will pass it to a player who has a better chance and yes he can play is a few positions tjred BR likes these types of players but he should use this as a last resort not 1st choice , why can't BR just pick a formation where players don't get played out of position it would be so refreshingfor our team to have players playing in their correct positions and playing week in week out which would mean we have a settled team sometime i think you can't blame the players because they don't even know what position to play , i remember lucas and joe allen bumping into each other on the pitch in one game ,that was down to BR telling the player where to play if it baffles me and other fans imagine the players

Wouldn't surprise me at all if he is a target because Brendan wants to play him at RWB. Hopefully we conclude a deal regardless of the manager because I really like this player. In fact I have been a fan of him since I was a little boy, I remember on LFC's site they had an option on each player profile "send an e-mail to this player", and for whatever reason I decided to e-mail Xabi Alonso telling him to tell Rafa to sign Milner! I was 10 and I paraded this e-mail proudly to all my friends too, there is a cute little story for you.

29 Apr 2015 06:06:41
Sorry but Milner is not a great player. He's going to be 30 next year and getting to the end of his career. He's very one paced, not terrific in Any one position and not the answer to any of our considerable problems, is he a good winger? No he's like Downing, is he a good centre midfielder?

No he's a headless chicken, runs around lots but not strong enough to in the tackle and doesn't have the intelligence of a Mascherano or Lucas. Poor signing and if that's the kind of player we're going for, then I'm writing the next few seasons off.

Thinking about a post a few days back suggesting £30m + Lambert for Benteke (vastly over-rating Benteke imho, but anyway).

It made me think of other sentimental signings that didn't work out how the fairy tales should.

Prime example was the return of God a few years back that fizzled.

The flip side is the return of Rush in the late-80s that worked tremedoously well, so much so that he stayed for another 8 years a scored another 139 goals in 329 appearances!

Any other examples that people can think of? They don't have to be Liverpool related only, but need to involve a player coming to/returning to 'their spiritual home'

Think Rodgers will be here next season. Nothing is showing me he'll be gone. In fact it's the opposite. Missing out on fourth is clear now, he could have gone after the WBA game which confirmed it. He didn't. Could have sacked him after cup semi loss, we were poor and last hope of a trophy. He didn't.
This leads me to think, if it does cost the reported £10m, he can bring on youngsters to profit and maintain a 5th/6th place for Euro football then that's enough for FSG. They're tipped on here by ed002 to sell up 2017. They will have increased Anfield, have a squad of young players worth something due to Rodgers coaching (Coutinho, Ibe, Can, Moreno etc) no compensation costs and can sell on for profit.

Can anyone else really see FSG doing any different? EPL and our situation was much bigger and more costly then expected, so selling on with better confirmed revenue and regular top 6 side of young players with high transfer values. They do not need to sack Rodgers, they are not here long term. So many chances to have got rid before not taken, think that speaks volumes.

Believable4 Unbelievable5

{Ed002's Note - 2017 will see a number of teams possibly sold - it will be a good point for the Liverpool owners to bail out if the club is not making decent money by then - I posted about this earlier - a search on 2017 should find it.}

28 Apr 2015 17:37:06
This is a complete guess on my part and I claim no insight into anything, but my guess is if Rodgers is still here next season, it's largely due to what you have mentioned. Sacking him will be costly, bringing in a new man equally costly and as has been mentioned repeatedly we're not in the best position due to FFP and now likely have no CL money next year either. I'd be happy to be wrong about as for me a new manager would be worth giving up another £10M player we probably don't need anyway, but I could see it coming down simple to economics, unfortunately.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - It won't be anything to do with cost.}

28 Apr 2015 17:43:17
Barnesinho

Do you understand the loss in revenue this very season is going to cause? LFC owe FSG loads of money in interest free loans. They are not going to make their money back by selling the likes of Coutinho, Ibe, Can and Moreno for a profit.

If LFC do not finish top 4 next season then FSG will struggle to find a sponsor for naming rights to fund the rest of the stadium expansion and clear the debt LFC owe FSG.

If FSG stick with Rodgers another season and we fail to make top 4 next season again, the consequences financially for FSG will be like a 16lb hammer blow on the head. Sacking him and replacing him will cost them less than keeping him and not finsihing top 4 next season as all Rodgers has done is cost this club massive amounts of money without sufficient return. FSG cannot afford another season like this. Those who cannot see it, wake up.

Agree4 Disagree1

28 Apr 2015 17:45:33
No point in replacing him with 4 games to go, who would replace him?! If you think these owners are happy with 5th you're mistaken; they want to win titles and be challenging for the Champions League.

Agree2 Disagree0

28 Apr 2015 18:08:12
Essex, wouldn't you think the chance for a new manager to get to know the players in a handful of competitive games would be worth it? Especially if that manager is out of contract elsewhere i.e. Klopp?

Maybe Klopp was asked and didn't want it.

Maybe he can't join another team until the season is over as part of his agreement with Dortmund.

Maybe, if the owners are going to make managerial changes, it is more financially prudent for them to do so only if top 4 (for example) is mathematically impossible, like United did with Moyes last year.

Who knows

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Apr 2015 18:21:40
Max is right. He will NEVER learn hence, keeping him here will ONLY deepen the whole we will be in on and off the field. We have to cut our losses and cut bait because 5th every season after 100m spent will NOT do it and these guys will sack him first before he`s allowed to mess w/ their investments. See Red Sox sackings for confirmation. The owners did not indicate anything for months after KK screwed up and gotsacked so don`t read too much into the silence from FSG till now on the BR issue. Remember tho, none has come out publicly to support him for the past 6 weeks and even after the Wembley Debacle and to me, that speaks volumes.

It's a sad state of affairs when you want to tell your manager what t say. I couldn't care less what he says in front of the camera it's what he says in the dressing room that counts. And according to Macca the players believe in his methods, and that's good enough for me

As cringeworthy as Rodgers can be, I think he was right to say this. He is promising to compete for the title because he absolutely has to in order to have any chance to stay in the job.

I prefer a Liverpool manager to aim absolutely as high as they possibly can. So in the grand scheme of things this was the right thing to say for me.

Hardly comparable to
"We play with 11 men, other teams play with 10 men and a goalkeeper." or saying his biggest mentor was himself!

Away from all the Rodgers talk, there is a game tonight which is a must win. I believe that the supporters organisations are boycotting tonight's game because of tickets prices, my question is will this make any difference as Liverpool have sold out there allocation anyway?

The tickets have sold out because we have still brought tickets for the match. I personally brought a child ticket and ripped it up.

We only brought the tickets so that we get the credit for the game.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Apr 2015 17:28:00
I always found it interesting that people are protesting (I guess FSG?) about high ticket prices. Would it not make more sense to stand outside Melwood and ask the players if perhaps they could drive a more sensible car than a Ferrari and live in more sensible housing than Teletubby mansions? The majority of your money goes to the players, not to the club and certainly not to FSG.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I am pretty sure FSG don't own Hull.}

28 Apr 2015 17:55:35
I have some sympathy with that view Red 64; liverpool needs all the income it can get to compete. At the end of the day Liverpool's biggest expense is player wages so only a Europe-wide salary cap will stop the increasing expense of watching football.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - There won't be any Europe-wide salary cap Essex.}

28 Apr 2015 18:27:47
I agree that ticket prices are ridiculously high however don't feel they should be reduced, obviously Liverpool need all the money they can get. however people argue that German teams like Dortmund cost around 150 for the season because what's an extra couple million to top league team.
and that is true what will 3 million get Liverpool?
But if Liverpool, Man U, Chelsea etc Reduce their prices to 15 pound a game then where does that leave our local clubs?
Personally my local clubs Doncaster Rovers it costs 23 pound for an adult ticket, who's going to pay that to watch that sh*te when we can see Liverpool for cheaper, and hopefully a better match with better players.
So teams like Doncaster, Tranmere, Port Vale would have to drastically reduce their ticket prices to have any chance of selling tickets to someone who isn't a die hard fan of the club.
This reduction in cost May mean nothing to Dortmund or Liverpool, but i'm sure it will mean a lot to the lower league teams, who I would imagine rely a lot on that ticket income.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - This protest is not about Liverpool - it is about the charges Hull are making to away fans for the game tonight.}

Ive been reading a few posts including a recent turn out from Macca,
Im sorry but why are so many people putting so much spin on any of this nonsense? you can state all you like about the money being A, B or C when it comes to net spend, future money recouped etc etc etc but the fact is its been spent and in the most part wasted with no return, why are so many people accepting of 2nd best? I don't get it, you don't go out and buy a brand new car and say well actually I've only spent this because down the line its still worth this, the ONLY figure that matters to me is what has been spent and who its been spent on, and that figure is astronomical, as for the players being behind the manager, if they are then they aren't showing it, and if it takes this long to get behind a system that they apparently have no problem with then surely they aren't worth the money they are paid.
The constant ridiculous comments in the media, the ever changing team sheet, the brashness now to say we can win the league next year with no evidence whatsoever that its possible, the constant comments on how we are where we should be at and the bordering on crazy transfers we seem to keep bringing into the club when we are supposed to harbour some sort of Champions league dream is just too much, the man has had his go and no amount of DOF or changing of the transfer guard will alter this fact,
Its high time we started to take a good long hard look at ourselves as we are most definitely falling behind, I know a few will come back with well we came second last year, yes we did before you say it, second with no Europe to bother us and with a fair few other clubs underachieving or in transition too all added to the fact we had one of the worlds top 6 players at our club and a one off season of Sturridge fit, but instead of fixing what was clearly broken or replacing the missing pieces that were leaving the engine we go out and buy enough scrap for 5 engines in the hope that we'll find a formula one car, sorry for the analogy but its the truth, until we start aiming for better and that includes management and coaching staff then we'll be at this with each other for the next few seasons,
I love my club, i'd personally like to see it competing again not turning out against the Real Madrids of this world hoping we can avoid a drubbing and waiting to see if any potential youth players might have the cahoonas to make the step up,
The future is where its at, the future, winning things is about now

28 Apr 2015 15:22:35
I can understand where your coming from and your frustrations are shared I'm sure. But I do agree we are were we belong, you said people shouldn't agree with that statement but went on say we are definitely falling behind. Because we are hence being were we belong. no the transfers weren't great but have you noticed the player power these days, the money talking more than it ever did before. Gone is the pull to put on the red shirt, how many mishaps have we suffered owner wise, manager wise, and results wise. All that together plus the fact no one wants to live in liverpool, not my feelings just what's always written I the media. Player wise we are no where near the too 4 do we have players that can rival, hazard, fabregas, di Maria, mata, silva, aguero, Sanchez, ozil. Don't forget how close we were to willian and chelsea weighed in with the Ukrainian contacts and money and he was gone salah the same all to stop us competing and being able to win again Sanchez was so close but again money and destination played it's part. Our history means nothing In today's footballing system but the media hold us to glory days constantly routing us for greatness asking when we will be back. Were we are right now the finishes before the 2nd place int 4 previous year before that were what someone like 7th,8th,6th,7th that we're we are that's were we are coming from. I do not want a rebuild right now it all too costly especially with Europa on the horizon I do not want to be I that competition it's sets teams back at least 2 years in progress everytime an English team enters it. I'm going to get behind Rodgers one more season. And then if it's still the same time for a change but we can't be too hasty to dismiss Rodger especially with that dodgy transfer committee.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Willian was a player Liverpool were interested in, but they did not offer enough money to buy him. As for Salah, the club's valuation of the player was miles away from what Basal would consider acceptable - hence there being no negotiation.}

28 Apr 2015 17:06:43
So taking into account of what ED2 said. How is that Rogers fault? Seems some on here want to blame him when it is nothing to do with him, but all to do with the money men

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - In terms of Salah the matter was made worse by Brendan Rodgers saying that they were not sure if the player was good enough for England and that is why they would not offer anything like a reasonable amount of money on such a high-risk purchase. The player and his club both, quite rightly, found this offensive.}

28 Apr 2015 22:12:56
Ed002 - Didn't Salah himself prior express that he would only consider offers from Manchester United, Chelsea or Real Madrid ?

Anyway he is with another team, so no point discussing him as a potential.

Transfers for next season needs to be looked at AND secured as early as possible, whoever they are. I agree with Macca about giving the youngsters a chance. They are considered to be good enough (hopefully) otherwise what are they doing on our reserve/youth teams. Having a loan signing blocking development opportunities in the first team is a downward spiral.

yes we tried (or hoped) that we could continue from last season, with the help of some talented signings & loans, but that didn't work out for a number of reasons. Not just Rogers. But players don't turn bad that fast, so I'm a firm believer that we are not that far away from glory

At the start of the season you said lambert was a great buy, we had the second best squad in the league behind city and fabregas and Costa would be average.
forget statistics like that. They go in the garbage for me. I never judge a player on statistics unless they are a striker maybe. milner has scored 11 goals in his city career in the league. Good squad player, another unnessessary player.

I appreciate maccas time and opinion but Rodgers has to take a lot of the blame in many situations. And I do believe de boer would be an improved on Rodgers. It will cost the club to sack Rodgers yes but it could cost a hell of a lot more if we give him another season.

I appreciate that clearly not many people rate Milner, but I will stand by my word. He is a very good and very under rated player. We all get things wrong though mate. Alot rate milner, the problem is simple. We have a squad that needs a fresh top manager. What we are missing is 3 top players. No more squad players. A striker, central midfielder and goalkeeper and any other positions give our younger gems a chance.
Milner in my eyes does the same job as lallana only is more versatile(can play full back if needed.
Lallana can play anywere behind the striker and wide midfield positions. They might not be his best positions but he can do what milner will come in and do.
Lallana is a gem of a player that needs confidence and a run of games but there is no need for milner atall.
Lallana has the skill and close control to produce magic but my point is he can do the secondary work that milner will be brought in to do.
And he is not a free transfer. His signing on fee will be around 3-5 million plus he will be on close to 100 k a week. It is a bad decision Imo.

At times this season we've played decent football, good passing, good pressing, lots of movement. Many other times we've looked more disorganized than my over 40 Sunday league team. Hi Eds and reds, this is a truly great site and long may it continue. Question to Ed02 if around - with the pan European breakaway being supported by 2 of the top teams, would FSG be very likely to sell the club knowing that we wouldn't be involved due to our current status?
I imagine they wouldn't risk such a huge loss if Liverpool were effectively not at the top tier in a new competition, which would attract staggering revenue.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - The breakaway is support by more than a dozen teams but only two want it to happen as soon as possible. Others are still looking about 10-12 years away. It has been suggested that 2022 might be a compromise. If the owners sold today they would lose money. If they sell in 2017 they will make money. If the club is being successful they will look to keep it longer. They will know that any future restructuring with the game could hit the club hard.}

Hi Eds
It's been a frustrating season for all involved with LFC, I go along with ED02 in that sticking with Rogers will only keep us in mediocrity. His lack of experience showed this season along with all the other baggage he has. I do hope this review the owners are doing is accomplished and we have a new management setup with a clear model to follow ie Chelsea, arsenal. I hope someone of the likes of Mr Hogan who has seen lfc this season put some weight towards the changes lfc need to ring. Ed02 looks like some changes have already been made but do you see more significant changes made in the summer ie committee, new medical team, senior management.

Believable4 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I don't know. If Rodgers stays and next season starts as the last two, moving him on mid season very much limits the choice in terms of who will be available. I don't think another years in transition will suit anyone.}

28 Apr 2015 14:28:01
Which is why we have to cut bait right now because IMO, BR has lost all credibility (except in the eyes of the media who he keeps giving comedy material on a daily basis) and he will NEVER learn hence, keeping him is only prolonging the inevitable and firing him midseason will only put us in a worse bind. I say , do it now and take your chances on someone you really want to work under the structure you have created INSTEAD of wallowing in medioccrity. Besides, I thought the owners did not fire him in Nov/Dec to avoid that very scenario? Is that right, Ed?

Speaking of which, has there ever in history been a top level one handed goalkeeper? Not for one moment there has been in the last 50 years, but surely in the past there must've been someone? We had 'larger' goalkeepers like Fatty Foulkes and Neville Chamberpot (beloved of our blue brethren) so surely a lithe, agile one-hander must've been playing for some team somewhere?

I think his name is Simon Moses. Fast young winger. He plays in Belgian league now for Gent. I saw him also in some matches in Slovakian League. He was better than the rest. I remember also Matic and Skrtel in this league who were very good as well. But with all respect to our league it means nothing. He is young with potential but I don't see reason to buy him, it is better to keep Sterling, Ibe, Markovic and let them play. We need top class players ready into first team and give more time on the pitch for players from academy. He is good and has future but needs time and I do not think he is what we need right now.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - This is one I can help with. Gent's Moses Simon has attracted the declared interest of PSV, Apolonia Fier, Spurs, Ajax, Maccabi Tel Aviv and Fenerbahce and has apparently been watched by Viking, Liverpool, Reading, Midtjylland, Arsenal and probably others.}

28 Apr 2015 12:58:22
Sorry Eds, i wasnt trying to create an issue with other posters.

The point i was trying to make about transfers was, yes money has been wasted but the players still have a value.

So it is easy to say wasted 200 million, but if we recieve a 100 million for those players we have wasted a 100, which is still a lot.If you look over the last 25 years how much has been wasted, then it appears there are massive problems with how the club do there business not just Rogers.

Let me just say this, if the club signed the players that the current and previous managers had wanted who where achievable at the time, we would be in a totally different position now.

Also how on earth when you hold all the cards did Sanchez end up at Arsenal, was that Rogers fault?

My views on Rogers are just my personal opinion.

It would cost the club an awful lot of money to sack him and his backroom staff and i don't believe they are willing to do that at the moment.

It would be only worth doing in my opinion if they could get a world class manager and i don't believe they can without offering a substantial warchest.

The Milner info is what i have been told, please don't play me off against the eds as they do an unbelievable job on here, i personally would prefer to put pins in my eyes knowing the abuse they get.

One final point that was raised was people critising his tactics. Well i can tell you most of the players are fully behind him and his training methods and his tactics.

Cheers

{Ed002's Note - Thanks Macca. The issue is with the money is that even if £100M could be recouped thyen the players would need replacing. The real surplus is in the loanees (Coates, Aspas, Alberto, Ilori) - and they can be sold for a decent amount with no impact. Balotelli is an issue as you say but there will be little problem moving him on as long as the club are realistic about the money.}

It shows IMO, how poor the PL has become and why we had a very good chance at challenging for the PL this season had we made hay when the sun was shining at the start of the season. Ten years ago, we would have been 10th with no hope of even finishing 7th with that type of start. The reason we were great last year was that we had a very good start to the season and was only out of the top4 for three days after we lost to Chelsea at Christmas and thatme win streak put us in position for the PL because we already had a platform built fromm the first half of the season. This year, BR messed up big time YET in spite of all that, we have the faintest of chances which is not so baffling all things considered

Great to hear from macca. Everyone has their own opinion on Rodgers.

On milner I disagree, he is another player that many would deem another squad player. He is an improvement on Gerrard and Allen, is versatile and works hard but he is not of the quailty of a midfielder we needeD. He scores very few goals. will he be the only midfielder we sign if he comes? ProbablY.I do like milner but he is again another possible' signing that does not improve our first 11. I will support him if he signs for pool but that is why I wanted maybe like others for any possible transfers to happen when Rodgers position is made clear.

Milner has 6 goals and 8 assists in about 2300 minutes of football. That is despite a lot of those minutes being short cameos, and virtually all of them out of position. His goal to minute ratio is actually near enough the same as Sterlings this season (who has played mainly as a striker)and his assist ratio is higher than any player in our squad except maybe Henderson.

I know it's not all about goals and assists, but that is the area of his game you seem to be attacking. Milner is vastly under rated and brings a degree of energy and steel to our midfield that it's missed since Gerrard started his decline.

Play him in centre mid and he is class. Henderson would no doubt be grateful to have somebody else in midfield pressing as well as him and putting in the leg work. For a free transfer this is a no brainer. This isn't a Joe Cole or Kolo Toure. Milner isn't injury prone or in his twilight years. He is in his prime and hard as nails. He is still putting in great performances week in week out for City.

I hope Macca is right and even more so, I hope our fans will give Milner a chance before they write him off.

You're missing the crux of Macca's post Al.
Whilst Rodgers has clearly wasted money in the transfer market (but who hasn't since 1990 ?), signings are being made without his final approval.
And the signings that are being made are within the confines of a defined policy - younger players with potential and not on top dollar wages.

Now those two things there are almost bound to lead to some failures ; it's a difficult task to get promising, younger players (especially from abroad) to settle in and be successful. All FSG are doing is limiting the potential financial loss / having some re-sale value by not going for the older and very big buys.
Other than that, more experienced players (Toure, Lambert and maybe Milner) are being picked up on frees or cheaply.

So, for me, this Summer is about FSG looking at people and systems on player recruitment.
I am coming round to the idea of a DoF if only for the reason it will clarify this process, make it simpler, more accountable and transparent.
At least then the fans could get off the manager's back and let him get on with the task in hand.

Agree0 Disagree2

{Ed001's Note - the only player signed was Balotelli that could be claimed to be without Rodgers' approval and even then he signed off on it, so you are getting it wrong.}

at the end of the day it's up to the owners. I personally would get de boer in if klopp can't be swayed if' we approach him. Another year under Rodgers Imo would regress us further

I think Milner would be a cracking signing, we could sell allen and play him cm. He was brilliant at villa and has had a very good season at city. I think he would be an excellent addition

Have to disagree EMS, Milner is 30 this season coming, that is the twilight of his career, its a very bad move in my opinion (if true).

He wants a big salary, he will want to be played in the middle, which he is not good enough for us to be competitive as he doesn't have the skill set that we are lacking, he's not a great winger and rarely beats his man, so I don't know why we have gone for him?

To me its a similar signing to Joe Cole, one we should have avoided and one that will cost us significant money.

People on here have got to realise that however much we appreciate Maccas posts that they are not always correct and do not happen for whatever reason it is.

The Eds give us a great insight into the club every day (which is my escape from the kids and work). So just because Macca says something different in which say 1 in 3 do happen. This does not make the eds wrong.

I think a few like a good argument online and know Ed002 will not hold back if provoked.

Who knows what the future holds but keep up the good work eds

Macca only gave us his opinion of matters as he saw them and the info on milner which will be an improvement on SG and Allen but the bar is really not that high regarding both players atm. Now, the DOF does not interfere with the coach`s tactics and selections. He works WITH the manager as in what players to bring in and so on BUT their functions need to be clearly defined so encroachment on people`s turfs do not occur. on the Balo deal because he had the power to block the remy deal so why did he not stop it if he did not like it? It`s his fault and should take the blame. OR quit if he thinnks he`s being underminded instead of trying to have it both ways. A DOF is what we need and if BR is not in charge of signings, he either needs to have his position clarified or quit if he cannot deal with the climate as it is. All in all, the transfer structure need to be revamped from the top down

Agree0 Disagree1

28 Apr 2015 16:20:26
Milner will be on high wages and will not really offer any additional quality. He is a very similar player to Henderson except (arguably) not quite as good, I really don't understand. Emre Can is a midfielder, will no one see sense and actually give the lad a run in the team there!? Imagine Lucas with Can and Henderson ahead of him, that's a strong midfield with plenty years of improvement in it. Milner is not what we need - surely we'd be better off giving younger fella's a fighting chance in the team? Signing Milner is another poor use of funds and another death knell to academy players with no hope of ever getting a chance. This downward slope gets steeper and steeper.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Apr 2015 09:42:48
I personally cannot understand anyone wanting to give Rodgers more time, least of all the owners. The only relatively logical argument to keep him seems to be based on the fact that there doesn't seem to be anyone better to manage the club at present.
Where has he succeeded so far? Certainly not with trophies, transfers, budgets, tactics, public relations or youth integration & development. He doesn't even have a long history of managerial experience and success to suggest he is worth giving an extra year.
The only achievement in his 3 year reign has been 6-7 months of exciting, attacking football but that soon dropped off when he resorted back to his preferred method of death-by-(endless)passing.
Sorry to sound so negative but at what point do you decide he doesn't have the credentials to bring the club success? Another 6 months? A year? How about right now while another manager has time to work with the team before next season. We undoubtably have a very talented squad on paper, bar a couple of positions, and massive future potential with our youth but I don't see anything that suggests Brendan Rodgers is the man to realise this teams ability - especially by consistently playing them outside their preferred positions.
I don't have the answer to who should be managing the side but I also don't see the point in persisting with a guy who has had every opportunity under the sun to get it right in the past 3 years and has, quite frankly, failed miserably.

If they keep BR, that is their prob and cross to bear. i`m afraid we`re going to have to bear his media baloney and tactical mishaps for one more season because for him, being kept is not a reason to change. On the contrary, it is positive re-enforcement and a reason to keep doing what he`s doing because he doesn`t think he is failing if you read his comments in the media.

Macca is only saying in his opinion he would keep Rodgers until at least jan , which personally I don't see the point in giving him another summer transfer window and 5 months in the league.

Exactly ed

Rodgers wanted bony but was quoted 20mil if I remember correctly and the board wouldn't pay it.

So instead we pay 10mil for origi and 20mil for markovic , then loan origi back to lille and ibe to derby.

Just doesn't make any sense what so ever.

Now I know the board like to buy young and sell on at a profit but if its costing us 20 - 30mil for these youngsters then it doesn't work because these kids would have to become superstars to even make a profit on them.
surely you're best to bring the kids out of the academy like sterling and potentially sell at a big profit.
Which is exactly what Rodgers isn't doing.

The eds have to worry about the future of the site so if 002 said exactly what macca said and he doesn't sign in the summer half of you people will throw a tantrum and not come back. hence why the eds can only tell you on what they are 100% certain and in this instance that is that interest exists in the player. No tills, or any staff until you've navigated yourself around 5 miles of ailes, men looking at each other for help searching for fire exits or anything that would save them from the hell that they now found themselves in. While the woman remained in a state of unrivalled bliss, as cushins, followed by lamps, that led onto picture frames, that led onto tables and chairs. And then, when we finally made it to the tills men escaped in their droves, into the car park only to have their misery compounded as we searched for our cars, having forgotten where we parked them eight hours earlier. I find it strange that no one broadcast the game tonight in the UK. All these billions for TV rights and no one is interested? Why don't they let ITV show it, I am sure they will be happy. Btw I think it is also time to cancel this no football TV on Sat at 15:00 law. Very anachronistic. Most PL matches are sold out anyway. I disagree with many here who think we would not get a manager with pedigree to manage us or we are no more an attractive side, which is very much sterm on Rodgers boasting to be the only better manager for us. and to those making the refrence of Fergie have to wait 6yrs to win his 1st trophy and become the most successeful manager in pl history, well it's a mordern era where by 3yrs project is long enough to make good amends. look at Moys at efc for those demanding more time for managers, how many years and what are their success? like it or not cfc are currently the better side in England interms of cup success, winning two(2) european accholades in the space of two or three years with two different managers. even their belove gaffer in mou never dodge the chopping when he failled to manage a player and later brought back for his 2nd stinct. and back to my point, even if we are unattractive to top elite managers, like it or not there are managers who wouldn't say no; Kenny or Rafa, with better CVs than BR

What are some of the factors a manager looks at before joining a club? Or to put it more bluntly, what attracts a "top" manager to a club? As an example, Jurgen Klopp can be considered a "top" manager.

For "top" a player, some of the factors are CL football, manager of the team, wages, ability of the prospective team to challenge for the local league, ability to win trophies, history of the club, quality of the players in the prospective team and assurances of regular first team football.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - these are individuals, each one will have his own ideas of what he wants.}

Lets say Rodgers gets sacked and we begin the search for a new manager, we automatically assume that great managers would be interested in us but in reality there is no incentive from the club, no unique selling point, we assume that de Boer, Bielsa, Klopp Emery or Cocu would love to manage us, why? We are not an attractive club to manage anymore, the pressure the history the fans expectations the transfer committee not exactly an enticing prospect. Macca is right we are where our spending reflects, we are short of quality and unfortunately to most Rodgers seems like the only person that wants the job. The solution personally I believe he needs an experienced coach behind him and a sporting director to take the heat off from matters that really seem beyond him, this approach might work better for Rodgers as he can focus more intensely on managing the team and the tactics which at times have been brilliant and at other stages with background distractions been woeful.
Finally I'll leave you with this the most successful manager in history took 6 years to win his first trophy in England, time is a commodity we must be willing to spend, otherwise we'll be the same as every other team.

Believable0 Unbelievable7

28 Apr 2015 07:11:56

Chelsea fan coming in peace. I personally feel you guys aren't very far off being a very good team (look at your great run this year). You guys are at your best when you're pressing the other team deep into their side of the pitch. I think one big thing holding you back is that Rodgers tries to fit the likes of Skrtel (who prevents you guys from playing a high line) and Gerrard (who would only be successful in a role where he doesn't need to cover much ground). The Sterling situation is what it is but if you do sell you need to replace him properly. Your biggest need is a top class striker, speaking from personal experience with Sturridge counting on him for more than half a season is dangerous. Overall I think your problem is far more about the system than the players in the system.

Believable9 Unbelievable0

28 Apr 2015 10:02:56
Yeah if Rodgers had the football brain to change formation and tactics more to suit what's in front of us we would be pushing you for the league with a bit of luck.
When Rodgers gets his tactics right we are unbeatable, the problem is he sticks with them tactics until nobody fears you anymore, if he mixed it up on a game by game basis it would keep the opposition guessing and give them no chance of setting up against us.
Plus like you say he puts far too much faith in skrtle and Gerrard, he spent the best part of £40m on lovren and sakho, the least you could do is play them together in a run of games.

28 Apr 2015 10:30:55
T.k thanks for your inpu there, nice to see fans from another club can make nice comments about other teams. I think you are right in both Skertl and a striker. Personally I think liverpool should have got Scott Dann and Gary Cahill when we had the chance. I think they would have been a good centre back combo for many years.
Suarez was a gem of a player when he was only focused on his game and not eating people. We need that energy again. Sturridge is great when he is injury free and has a player to help him up top. I do not think anyone would have guessed Ballotelli would score so little and letting Remy go was a joke. I think Benteke would be good for us, big, strong and powerful(like Drogba).

Wellcome back Macca, is great reading your updates which make this site the best and authentic. we hope to hear more from you. your message seem to have Klopp as the only option if Rodgers were to leave, which means De Boer is not in the que? and we have to face Rodgers pressers till january, don't you think that we could be a potential failure under him come next season if he is still incharge as he won't shut his mouth? fans are fed up, any flashes of brilliance would not move the fans again and a little blip will cause hysteria etc even players confidence will be lowered. you made mention that Balotelli was sign against his wish, but what about the other three strikers? to me ather manager would make one of them score at least 10goals this season, even i for one believe that Gerrard under good manager would still provide quality to the team. any way, thanks once again for the info Macca, and my regards to all the Eds in here.

BR's position has become untenable, IMO and he needs to go, simple as. As for Macca saying BR did not want Balo, I take him at his word BUT all I will ask is that if he did not want Balo, why did he stand by and let it happen or did he not put his foot down and threaten resignation and reject Remy when he was on the treatment table during his medical? Managers have done this in the past and kept their dignity so why couldn't he? I think he saw this as a win-win as in, if he panned out, he gets the credit for fixing Balo and if he fails, he says it was not his choice, like the politician that he is.

28 Apr 2015 07:20:58
Would you really expect Rodgers to resign, throw away a great job at the end of August because FSG deemed it acceptable to purchase Mario Balotelli?
They didn't force him to play Mario. That would be a reason to consider resignation.
If anything Mario's failure strengthens Rodgers hand in future deals. Maybe FSG will listen to Rodgers when he doesn't want to sign a player?

Agree2 Disagree0

28 Apr 2015 15:43:41
Wrong, IMO! BR knew the risks of signing him YET did nothing. If he felt that strongly about it, he should have threatened to quit and FSG would have listened because the blowback would have been terrible for them. He had the powerto impose his will on them by refusing a DOF yet folded like a banana when it came time to buy Balo? He had the power to block the Bony and Remy deals per Ed01`s info (who are actually better than Balo) and then folded like a lil flower in the winter time when Balo came along? If you believe that, I have a bridge in london I can sell you. he let it happen and trashed the boy in the media so much that it became creepy. I don`t expect him to take responsibility for the Balo debacle because he has NEVER taken responsibility for all his blunders since he arrived so I KNOW he will never admit that he either said or did nothing to stop it when he could have as the Ed01 has said here on numerous occasions
