Use our rumours form to send us liverpool transfer rumours.

27 Oct 2010 22:24:35

In the winter transfer window, I really hope we go for Ibrahim Afellay - out of contract in the summer so will be available for a reasonable price £2-5m, 24 years old and is better than any of the wide-players we have at present. If Afellay arrives, it would allow Gerrard to move alongside Meireles, and Joe Cole can move behind Torres - which will make us more solid - and a more attacking force. Another signing I would go for is Darijo Srna, again out of contract in the summer - and would provide a viable right-back alternative to Glen Johnson. Vastly experienced, dead-ball specialist and could be available at a reasonable price - i read Chelsea are also interested.

I read today that were looking to buy chris brunt. .is there any truth here ed? if there is it suggests that we have stooped to a new low. .he is rubbish, and is barely good enough for wba. .
ed?
{Editor's note - I doubt it is true}

Im interested in what people think about jovanavic. obviously we need another striker, but In the meantime, i believe he should be played in the support striker role. this is where he has been most effective for serbia and liege.

I don't know why so many fans keep goin on about how we can't attract world class players coz we have no champions league football. All I have to say is look at athletico Madrid and juva plus other top clubs they have some very good players and they have no cl football at the end of the day Liverpool is still the most successful club in England and a top European team with some of the most passionate fans in the world do keep the faith and believe in nesv and every Liverpool player that steps on that pitch will never walk alone

27 Oct 2010 20:05:03
Ed whats your views on the ozone layer {ed's note - I don't think it would be a good signing, it is full of holes which could be exploited by the opposition......}

27 Oct 2010 19:52:56

Y do people keep saying get santa cruz? he had one good season in the prem, only mark hughes has ever wanted him, even bayern munich didn't rate him, cuz they sold him 4 a bout 3million! mancity paid a fortune 4 him and would be looking to get most of that back.
do you rate him ed?
{Editor's note - I do not rate him}

27 Oct 2010 19:50:38

Would like atleast one of these:

Alexis Sanchez
Arda Turan
Fernando Llorente
Fabio Coentrao
Eden Hazard
Sergio Augero
Keisuke Honda
Ibrahim Afellay
Diego Forlan
Steven Defour

Matt Wollacott

27 Oct 2010 19:45:46

Right lads lets get real. Whats the point in trying to win the prem at the moment, we havent got a chance.
We will be fourth or worse this season.
Man U and City and Chelsea and Arsenel will be top four, or there abouts.
We should now focus on cups, Europa and FA. We can still be competitive in the league but be realistic.
We should focus this season and possibly next sorting out the following:-
1, Training, get the lads fully fit, bring in the best to sort it out. Rafa had a swipe about this in his "milk bottle" speach.
2. Stadium, build it, we need the revenue stream to compete with the big boys.
3. Bring on the youth. The children are our future. .lol

Give Jovanovic a chance alongside Torres, Ngog is not and won't be good enough.Think Jovanovic would be a great asset if given a go as a striker.

To this guy
"Just looked at alexis sanchez on youtube at his best bits and he looks like he is going to fallover every time he tries to dribble past a player! "

Sorry but if you think that then you clearly have no football knowledge

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

well why if everyone disagreeing with you then roy? You wouldn't be able tospot world class talent like johnson and banega if it bit you on the nose. . you only have the eye for players like sanchez who are only good enough for fulham
{Editor's note - Have you ever seen Sanchez play a full game? He is a brilliant player atm and will only get better. He could be a world class player with the right coaching.}
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
I have seen him play actually, i admit he may have potential but so did babel, insua, cisse, diouf, sissoko. . the list goes on and on. we have brought potential for years and it always seems to backfire. we need to buy proven quality now before its too late.

27 Oct 2010 17:55:55

I hear liverpool are interested in pavlyuchemco, bentley, dos santos and jenas and thinking of calling themselves spurs reserves!

27 Oct 2010 17:55:07

Hi evry1 hav been to this site since long time but 1s time posting.some of the livp fans r just too impatient, unrealistic, n absolute dreamers. I agree roy hasn't been gud so far but do you think shelvey/ kelly would b playin occasinaly under rafa? He playd youth only if he didn hav any alternatives. When the owners hav made it clear dey won't spend big then y go 'city dreaming'? Bringng 5/ 4 new playrs in squad causes tactical probs so get a sense. Am wishng to c just 2 transfers in jan whch wnt cost much.
1. Affelay (£10m)
2. Turan (£15m)
There is no winger in team nw so if these 2 cum in then we can use kuyt what he actualy is a striker. Young wil cost more but hes just a pacy fact over cole. Babel n maxi must b sold off n i bet lucas wil b gud if untaunted n alwd b grow freely . Then in may go for 1.Taiwo( probably free n u knw african plyr's work rate)
2. Banega ( shorty alonso)
PATIENCE PEOPLE PATIENCE !
Ur words ed?
{Editor's note - We need to have patient. We are not going to go out and by the likes of Schweinstageir ect.}

16 Memebers of NESV
If each invested 50M at the onset = 800M
Taking off the 300M to secure the club we would have approx 500M.
If we took off say 300M for the stadium issue whether new or redeveloped we would have approx 200M for the squad potentially.

So for the person who questiioned this:

LFC NESV TEAM:
- - - - - - - - Reina/ DGea/ Jones- - - - - - - - - - - -
J'Son/ Kelly- Carra/ Agger/ Sk'rtl/ Cahill/ S'Cross- Taiwo/ Lahm
Aff'lay/ Sanchez-Gerrard/ Merieles/ Lucas-Turan/ Cole/ Young
- - - - - -Schweinstiger/ Aquilani/ Hazard/ Mata- - - - - -
- - - Torres/ Llorente/ Hoarau/ Aguero/ Honda/ Babel- - - -

You do realise that the £300m NESV paid for the club isn't the transfer kitty?

I realize 300M wasnt the transfer kitty but 200M will do mate. . .

Here's a juicy rumour to get our teeth into.

Kenny D was at the Lille v CSKA Sofia match watching Eden Hazard.

Rozza Hodgson is interested in making an 18 million bid.

Fernando Llorente
Gary Cahill
Phillippe Mexes

Ever Banega
Ashley Young
and possibly another right back.

They are considering changing their motto to "If Liverpool are interested- so are we."

No doubt by the end of the week Redknapp Senior and Redknapp Junior will have something to say about an issue, possibly the news from NESV today, surrounding Liverpool. Because the 'media darlings' have not said anything for atleast 5 days! !
And by the way most of what they say is totally incorrect but they are allowed to get away with it unquestioned on what they say (ref: Redknapp's support of Tom Hicks).

27 Oct 2010 17:09:04

Look all these people that keep posting there dream teams for Liverpool seem to be forgetting the English (British Isles) trained since under the age of 21 rule! I saw a team the other day with only 2 players that fell under this bracket! It makes me wonder how much football knowledge people who visit this site actually have!

Stop with these dream teams we don't need loads of players maybe 3 world class ones at best to put us back up there! !

Just been watching the moscow darby, and why is there so much hype about honda he looks decent there. he will never cut it in the premiership.

27 Oct 2010 16:44:19

Guys. . I am not a Brit. bad enough a Yonk but I love the Pool. Gotta say your blaming tabloid obsessed media in England does more harm to not only your National Team but also players in the Prem. Players we are supposed to support.

Rumors are great just bashing our players is counterproductive.

Our team needs confidence which last time I went to the market was unavailable at any price.

For what it is worth, Lucas played great last week. . Meireles did his job well and the Greek saved our ass. All players that get bashed all the time on this site.

Sorry for the rant but maybe backing Roy and the team this season might produce more than spending 30M on player X? ?

Oh. . my player X wish would be Honda. .he works his ass off and has mad skills.

YAAAAAAAAAAAY. It comes to something when a yank has to scold the brits on proper conduct, but you're absolutely spot on (sorry, not having a go - i like americans generally. Very friendly people). It doesn't matter that ur a yank, you have a much more useful opinion than most of our fans, so i for one am glad ur a liverpool fan.Duckula

27 Oct 2010 16:43:09

Hello people stop watching Youtube videos and thinking Arda Turan is a great deal. Watch him play for a full 90 minutes. I am almost certain he won't be a good buy and could turn out to be just like Ryan Babel.

27 Oct 2010 16:24:15

The transfers rumors posted here are all fantastically rubbish. People have no idea about NESV's policy.

NESV's approach – applied with great success at the Boston Red Sox – is likely to rule Liverpool out of the glamour signings which many fans hoped would follow the eviction of previous owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett.

Instead, the club's recent scouting activity suggests they intend to follow the Arsenal model – for which NESV has been keen to stress its admiration – or, perhaps more pertinently, institute on an informal basis the transfer policy employed at Manchester United, where premium fees are only paid for younger players with resale potential.

"We believe the foundation of any good sports club has to be the experience, valuation and understanding of scouting, so we will invest in that as well."

I'm delighted hearing this- -If this works we won't be seeing players like Maxi, Konchesky, Jones or 20 million spent on Aquilani or buying Robbie Keane- -instead a squad full of young talents.

Tommy, as a paint/ dec if all rooms cost that much id have retired buddy lol but i see your point but if we can see through it do you clubs would fall for it? non have been away sleeping in a cave, they all know how much you have to spend (and in all honesty it aint much), all clubs scout the same players if they are good enough they will have a dosier on them! i could have played but an accident ruled that out so i played at a lower level but still have some contacts

27 Oct 2010 16:07:15

Frank Rijkard is going to be gutted he's out of a job and Roy has kept his!

I have read a lot of crap about who we will buy and what we will do. Roy want last long, he was cannon fodder all along! He was the person stupid enough to take the job, and so far it has proved far too big of job for him. The new owners will get the new board sorted out and then matters will turn to Roy!

I have a friends in the first team and they no nothing more than Roy is not the person to take the team forward. The performance against Blacburn wasn't Roy's doing it was due to a meeting between the players and how they wanted to approach the game to show the liverpool fans that they could turn things around.

I hear Roy will be replaced by December, there are three people in the running. Rijkaard, Pellegrini and hiddink. They are currently reviewing which coach they feel will take liverpool to the winning level over the next 5 years and more.

Ed - What are your thoughts about the manager and possible managers to be? I also think that out of all 3 managers Rijkaard would be the person who would give our youth a chance. Would you agree ED?

By the way you have done a fantastic job with this site. {ed's note - I prefer Pellegrini myself, but at least with Rijkaard the kids should get a chance and the football would be good to watch. Hiddink would probably be a fantastic short term fix, but he is not the answer for the long term in my opinion.}

You have friends in the first team? ?. . yeah who are they?. . . .Do yourself and everyone who goes on this sight a favour and stop trying to make yourself look good. . . If people have got genuine information as opposed to just 'making it up', i'd love to hear it. Don't tell me he can't name his friends or else they might get into trouble. . .right?

27 Oct 2010 00:11:34

Oh and if we cannot get Gibbs I would go for Juan Manuel Vargas of Fiorentina. Good defender and excellent going forward. He is perhaps the best crosser in the game.
Anfield Rapstar

and has a left foot similar to Risse (y)

27 Oct 2010 15:44:12

Konkheskey not good enough what about marcelo for 7m

Where do people come up with these figures? Marcelo would be worth 13m+

but common for3 13-15 he's very much worth that kind of cash. or try Urby Emanuelson on a cheap. he's stated that he feels reading to leave Ajax and contract expires in the summer or Tawio same situation. or sign a per-contract.

Afellay though we should try n get in Jan along with Honda. but i would prefer Sanchez to Afellay but raising the cash for that kid might be a stretch

27 Oct 2010 15:36:51

The new owners have no choice but to stand by Hodgson, any new manager will look at what happened to him and say Bolllocks to going there, unless you go for a big contract signed manager, who won't care if he gets the sack, the pay-off will be a result in itself.

27 Oct 2010 15:34:26

Alexis Sanchez.
HI ed, just looked at the clip on youtube of sanchez and he looks outstanding. I think he'd excel in the premier league and my god would he supply the ammo for torres. What a talent.

gavin

ps(great site ed, been glued to it for months)

27 Oct 2010 15:28:49

For the all people who are interested in Eden hazard (that includes liverpool scouts and staff). This is what he said back in april of 2010 and i quote

"If one day I leave Lille, I will go to Real or Arsenal."

He doesn't want to come to anfield. I don't know why liverpool is not going for turan. hes perfect for pool hes passionate about pool. i don't need to state how good a player he is and a left winger at that with 25 assists last season. he good for the turkish market shirt sales too

Ed can you please tell me why we are not pursing him? no links whatsoever. I don't think we'll buy him and he'll go to another club and become a superstar and we'll be regretting it

True Red
{Editor's note - He would be a brilliant signing and hopefully Rh takes the finger out and gets him}

27 Oct 2010 15:28:26
With November just next week, then 8 weeks till the transfer window opens, Liverpool are still in the bottom 3, see things from a prospective new players point of view, why join a team that is struggling at the lower end of the table, theres no garuntee you won't get relegated, becuase if you do go down, that player will want out, with some tough games before Jan you should be concentrating on what your league position is by Jan, that will be a better indicater of who you will buy, and who will want to join, set your wish list as high as you like, league position will be the guide to what player activity happens in Jan.

We need turan just get him no matter wat he is like pires when he 1st came too arsenal give them what they want and we will get a player all us fans want plz

Totally agree with the above statement , I think us fans should have a say on what players we bring into the club i know it sounds abit stupid, but if roy hodgson is still in charge in january theres no telling who he could buy (e.g poulsen ) Us fans know what players we want and need. I think everybody ( well 9/ 10 ) would agree we would like to see arda turan at the club , great player who actually loves liverpool! just what we need.

Also there are more of the same names that are cropping up , for example kesiuke Honda Fantastic player that 9/ 10 of us would love to have at the club, i can only hope roy hodgson has these players in mind. i think there should be a poll on the liverpool website and all the fans can vote for the players they want and then the club can look and at least consider them , not nesscilarly go out and just buy them cause we said so but just so they know what the fans really want.

Turan and honda please LFC :) ( And a decent striker , i agree with someones post about Romelu lukaku , young striker similar to drogba big strong and powerful and if we could turn him into the next drogba or similiar for about £8-10m then that would be superb! )

27 Oct 2010 15:13:03

MB {ed's note - Arbeloa had wanted a return to Spain for a while mate, he had been persuaded to stay an extra year, but there was no way he was going to do that once Real Madrid stepped in.}

Let's also not forget that Carragher projected his own defensive frailties toward Arbeloa and decided to grab him by the collar on the last game of the season when Liverpool were well up. We need a new CB and make JC a coach or an ambassador or whatever.

Liverpool should go for a very strong young striker with pace.
Lakuku of Belgium would be ideal as he is in the same mould as Drogba.

If LFC sign a player like this, Torres will have a different role in games that dossent involve as much physical aspects.

Lukaku is a prospect of 16 or 17. He has excellent games and then he has absolute stinkers. His first touch is horrible and the worst thing that could happen to him is to move to a foreign club that needs immediate results. At this point it would be absolute madness to sign him for 10 million and let him rot on the bench because he is not effective enough in games. Liverpool need to sign a mature striker such as Hulk or Llorente, not Lukaku.

LFC Fans* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
Having heard from NESV about what they believe in tranfers and wages, it looks as though we will not be getting any world class players in.
However, they do believe in buying players that make financial sense (young players).
This almost certainly means we won't see any players aged 25+ being brought.
They will buy players for the future (ala Arsenal).
John Henry is not happy with the Konchesky deal (29 years old and offered a 4 year deal), carragher's 2 year extension, Maxi Rodruiguez's contract (too old to earn £70k a week).
He has also said that before Hodgson can buy anyone he needs to ship the dead wood out.
Let's hope this dead wood is: -
Poulsen
Maxi
Insua
Degen
Itandje
Jovanovic
Babel
Aquilani
Thats 8 players off the wage bill.
Then we can buy: -
1 striker, 2/ 3 midfielders/ wingers.
I think all in all this is very positive as i personally think we will buy players like - Mata, Banega, Arda Turan, Coentrao, Llorente. . . . . NESV will take us back where we belong.

If it is TRUE that NESV only want to spend on young players, with a sell on value then her it is, out new team in JANUARY:

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . .REINA. . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

.JOHNSON. SHAWCROSS. .AGGER. A.CISSOKHO.

SANCHEZ. . . GERRARD. . MEIRELES. . . . .MATA.

. . . . . . . . . . . TORRES. . . SUAREZ. . . . . . . . .

All the players that are new, are all aged under 25, and got a sell on value, this team will also get us on to the title challenge, wich is NESV'S so called target.

Iv read a few good points on here about liverpool and the way we have progressed or the lack of it,
i still love rafa and i know he loves liverpool, but there is somthing wrong with the way he goes about his job, he done it at valencia moaning and bitching about the owners and again at liverpool why can't he get his head down and get on with it instead of calling press conferences and doing his FACTS rant that came back and haunted him and us as fans, and even now the milk rant, if he keeps interfering in liverpool business he is walking a tightrope to the sack two loses he will be up the road, inter must be sick of managers obsessed with the english game, rafa is still young for a manager and i think he will be great one day

On this last weekend's 606 phone in they referenced that Hogdson when managing EPL teams (Blackburn, Fulham, and L'Pool) has something like 66 away games and 6 wins. Is that right? Jesus wept. .

. . . . and ppl think he is a liverpool manager. he has had his time in managing. i for one CAN NOT see roy getting better. i think bolton come sunday will determin just how long he will be at liverpool.if kenny could sit next to him through games we would see a big diffrence. sammy is a motivater, not a tactic adviser. all succefull managers have had a great football brain sitting next them.
you will not get press putting presure on roy as they want a english manger with a big club who can learn how to deal with the biggest player for england future. roy has one eye on england job. that alone says get him out. lets just dream for a minute, if roy started winning trophies, how long will it be that he jumps out to take england job and leave us in same situation fulham in just because they got to a final he is being touted and jumps ship.
liverpool have succesfull managers and theystay to win next year and then next year and so on. not do a roy soon as sign of success jump straight into next better and bigger job. in club football liverpool is one ov the biggest jobs and roy wanted to see if ther was any chance of england job before chossing liverpool. so roy go to middlesbough or west ham they will be looking for a new manger soon and earn your brownie points ther not our beloved club that our vision is to build on success not f*ck off to england once that seet comes available. . . . . . . WE ARE SCOUSERS NOT ENGLISH. YNWA

As we seem to be entering the world of fantasy. just looking at some of the signings people think we going to make. if i had a wish list i would like

Arda Turan. 22
Phillip Lahm 26
Javi Martinez 22
Llorente 25

Highly unrealistic in terms of finances. but great additions to the team.

You never know. santa may be nice this year

Ed. you don't have to agree with mine. but if you could make 4 signings only. whom would you have?

Rafa was so close to being a ledgend. so so close, and all ov sudden he not worth being a liverpool member of staff never mind manager. . . . .
get a grip if rafa had his first choice players we would have won the league. tom and gerry wanted him out. in his 2nd year. they would not sanction his first choices. . . . . . they got there wish in the end raffa gone. . .
and now lfc will struggle for half a decade.

I haven't laughed that hard in ages - thank you

I think he was an astute piece of business but purely sheds light on our defensive frailties that he's played so often - not as you suggest that he's worth £12M - he's not worth 12M maltesers mate

Ed, do you think gerardo bruna should be given a chance , I think he could do a job for us on the left wing
{Editor's note - I think he deserves a chance. Maybe a sub at first and then starting some games, he looks a decent player}

27 Oct 2010 13:10:38

He's not an AM, he's a deep lying CM, like Xabi Alonso. Roy plays him out of position most of the time. I assume he wasn't Roy's buy, hence why he doesn't know how to play him.

Well whos buy do you think he was? ? ?

27 Oct 2010 13:02:31

Was just wondering Ed what happened to the Roy will be gone after the Blackburn game rumours. Even though the performance was a lot better I still think it would be brave to give Roy the money in Jan. Of course I will be happy to be wrong as this would mean we have started winning games and climbing the table. Sorry if you have gone through this before but I work 4 on 4 off and have not had chance to get on this site since the Blackburn game.

@ Lombardi Cazorla

You hit the nail on the head. . Rafa always talked about building a system and a philosophy, and he read and talked a lot about Shankley! That is whet i meant about Rafa's system too, and maybe, because of a lack of squad-depth, and the lack of funds from the 'brothers dim' made that Rafa-system unsustainable.

@ ED and Cazorla
"Kenny's requested not to travel to Napoli (rumour has it that he, along with other senior players, was to meet someone we might be hearing a lot from sometime in the future)"

Please elaborate! i like this. .

1.Romelu Lukaku £18m
2.Eden hazard £16m
3.Kiesuke Honda £14m

Aquilani £10m

These 3 signings would strengthen the squad with 3 players who will shortly be come world class. NEVS know it makes sense.

All 3 would be good but im allmost certain chelsea have somthing sorted with hazard when he moves on
Honda looks more likely as he has good marketability
and that's wot the owners are looking for. Top doller will be paid for him

Fellow Reds and ED
{ed's note - sorry but I got bored at the beginning when your talk . .you should want to get the ball so that you can score, not so that the opposition can't.}

Sorry the rant got so long Ed. .emotional topic. .ha and since when do we Liverpool fans NOT rant (in the last three years) ha .

Anyway you are right about a lot; but you have to see for instance (example 2008-early 2010), . if we're playing ManU on the weekend, Madrid in midweek and Tottenham the game after that. .and you only have two players who can score, one good leftback and no cover for CB or the Wings, you overstretch yourself and draw or lose games. .Our problem was depth. we haven't had a good bench in a long time!

and whats your take on the opinion that English players are just not up to the mark ed? i mean, would you buy Turan and Sanchez for about 25 million, or Young and SWP for about 35?

Plus what do you all think of Dzeko?

NESV SPENDING 32M NET IS EXTREMELY UNLIKELY TOO, I THINK LIVERPOOL WILL NET SPEND AROUND 10-15M BETWEEN NOW AND NEXT SEASON.

I wish everyone would stop listing Kelly as a Rb. Yes he can play there but his true position will be centerback. He is a big lad at 6'4 and I think that while he could deputise on either flank the centre of defense is where he should play. Hopefully with Agger. And I do not think our attacking fullbacks would take as much critiscm for not getting back if we actually had two mobile cb's, unlike Carra and the Greek

"Good mornin thought i would start yr day by saying u now nave no money to spend official"

You deluded Cockney/ Manc/ Bitter n0bhead. Where does it say in any of the press reports that there is no money to spend? It doesn't does it? What it does say if you could have been bothered read the article in full is that value for money has to be of paramount importance. If this means an end to the days of signing cack like Robbie Keane for £20m on £80,000 a week I'm all for it.

The Reds are on the rise again. Not overnight but soon enough. Enjoy your 5 minutes of fame or the last days of Sodom and Gomorrah if you're from up the East Lancs Road.

In reply to the above:

(Good mornin thought i would start yr day by saying u now nave no money to spend official)

I for one am glad of the stement by NESV, it shows why they are rich and sucessfull as a consortium and as individuals. A fool and there money are easliy parted and over the last couple of years we have acted plenty foolish. I know we all want big name signings, but all the statement means is that they won't be spending 30 million plus on a 30 year old player, shevchenko rings a bell. Even Real madrid don't like doing it and there the biggest folls on the planet. they looked at buying baros when he got the golden boot in the euro's. Unluckily someone came to there senses, but it just shows there mentality. I prefer the Arsenal approach to football and admire wenger, look what they did to city who splahed there wad over everything. Add to this the fact that transfers are about to change with the new rules and teams won;t be able to splash 220 odd million on players if they want to play in europe.

There are are two reasons why we are where we are. The first being the effect of the off field problems on the clubs confidence. I say club rather than team because I believe the club has been shaken to its foundations with the events of the last two years and we are traumatised by it. That obviously has filtered its way through to the players, no question of that. We've been like rabbits caught in the headlights for too long now and we need to move on, and quick.
I also believe that Rafa could have handled it better if he really wanted to stay with us, sadly for us, he clearly didnt. His move to Inter did not happen overnight, at a guess there was a minimum of six months negotiation, so that takes us back to Nov/ Dec 2009. If you then consider that he must have been thinking it over for a few months previous to that, then you could argue that as soon as he got us to second place but was pipped at the last, he felt he had done all he could do. Remember, we were brilliant in the second half of that season, unplayable, unstoppable. Then, in the course of no more than eight weeks of the summer break the boys returned and completely collapsed as a squad. We were unrecognisable as the team that had finished the previous season. Alonso's sale had a massive effect on the boys, and I believe that's when the rot set in, Rafa lost his dressing room. It was all the more painful to watch because as Reds fans we had invested so much in him, and I'm not talking money. I honestly felt he was 'the one', the man who was going to deliver a first Prem title and even better, retain it, we could literally taste it, only for hopes to be dashed.
So now we have had to endure the rollercoaster of the sale, and in reality we'll have to reserve judgement on that for at least a couple of seasons until we know what these people are truly, honestly about. We know what we want, whether it works fully with their plan for us, only time will tell.
We have to get behind the team, posting on websites to vent anger at Roy serves no good at all except your spleen feels a bit lighter. This is the worst position I can recall my club being in and we need to fully support them no matter what. When Rafa was making his staggering team set ups, five man midfield against Wigan at home anyone?, and questionable substititutions, we stuck by the club and by association we stuck by him. The media mocked us for that for most of last season, but you all know its because they don't understand, they don't get it at all. This is Liverpool, this is Anfield, it means more than they'll ever know. LFC has always been my club. Everyone, from the car park stewards to the girl who sells you your pie at half time, from the groundsman at Melwood to Jamie putting in a fantastic tackle on the edge of the box, laying off to Danny Agger, through to Stevie, pinpoint pass on to Fernandos head, back of the net, we all do it together, its ours.
Unless there is quality available in the January window, and there rarely is, I would save our cash until the summer. Looking for a 'foil' for Nando is a waste of time, the man does it on his own, he's the best, simple as. Its width we need to provide the balls for him to run on to. We have a good enough squad to get us out of this and return us to respectibility for this season. Confidence returning will mean we play our pressing game, and that's when the goals will come.

27 Oct 2010 10:13:48

Raul Merelis is a good player but i don't really feel we needed to buy him. we should've never loaned out aqua and with the merelis money should've bought huntelaar. we missed that oppurtunity to buy him cheap and now hes scoring lots of goals domestically and internatioinally.

On a seperate note if we had not sold keane in 6 months and kept him till atleast the end of the season we might have won the league. he would've provided those goals needed in the many draws where either gerrard or torres were injured . just my opinion

Everyone posting rumours should read this article which clearly lays out NESV's transfer philosophy.

They will not be buying players with hyped up credentials and price tags to go with it.

They will follow a proven model based on real statistics, value for money, age of player, potential resale value. .etc

Frome the article :

NESV does not blame Hodgson for that poor performance so far this season, but rather interprets it as evidence that many of the squad do not warrant either their reputations or their earnings.

Henry's experience as a futures trader, as well as his noted obsession with both sporting and financial statistics, put him in a perfect position to analyse such information.

The model they will follow will be much like Arsenals, good scouting and sensible transfers of young players with a bright futures, based on fact not fiction.

I for one think this is a good approach, maybe not giving immediate results but long term success.

"Does any one on this site rate meireles our am i the only one what do you think on him"

My reply to the above post. . Meireles is a superb player but has to play in the centre, he will turn out to be a fantastic signing. If Hodgson keeps playing him out of position then he will struggle.

27 Oct 2010 08:40:21

The Manuel Pellegrini rumours are a load of rubbish. The rumour filtered from an unreliable football website yesterday. The quote taken and published was a quote from the man himself but from back in the summer just after Rafa left.
I can pretty much guarantee you that Roy Hodgson will remain in charge. John Henry said the first task he wants to undertake at the club is to stabilise the club. By sacking Hodgson now would totally contradict what he has stated. The only people who know exactly what the managerial situation at the club is are Hodgson, Henry, Werner and Broughton.
Roy probably has been given a deadline from NESV to improve results and yes, no doubt the likes of Pellegrini and Rijkaard will be considered but no one, not even any of the editors will know exactly what is going on behind the scenes.
Not a rumour, just putting a few observations across.

Why do so many put Johnson at right back when listing teams. He should be sold, no team wins the league or anything else with a defence that has more holes than Tetley.Carra to the bench. Time to move on and rebuild from the back.

NESV say they won't spend big & need to examine the books carefully. LFC have the 4th highest wage bill, but that doesn't mirror our league position. Henry claimed we have to spend smartly & stop giving long contracts which are worth £££ to over aged players (Carragher). I for one am pleased they aren't going to be rash. We've spent loads of ££££ in recent years on average players. Investment into a new scouting team would be good as we need it.
