Some things transend from the silly matters of football, today i heard of the passing of Stephen Packer. A 9yo lad from your youth set up. I would like to send my love and thoughts out to all his family and friends and all who feel his loss. Today is a sad day. So for today i put aside what seems like a petty rivalry and wish that his loved ones find comfort in what ever they can in such sad curcumstances.

Rest peacefully sweet Stephen, may you look down on Anifield with a smile from your cloud.

hi eds. jus wondering, how much money will the owners be giving us for january? because if they give us about 20 million, we sell downing for about 8-10 million, that makes it 28-30 million. we can try sell henderson for about 7 million, thats about 35-37 million. we can snap up bony for 8 million, thats 27-29 million. sturridge for 12 milion, thats 15-17 million and then they can maybe by a centre back e.g. angelo ogbonna. thanks you are doing a brilliant job

If only it was so simple eh?? wonder why theyve never thought of that with it being so easy and all...... sigh!!
rodger the dodger

Would anybody buy Downing or Henderson? Downing maybe but Henderson...? A striker and a speedy winger in the Sterling mould and perhaps Walcott. With sterling and Walcott we'd have a good pacey front line that would give anybody a run. Time to stop becoming a mediocre middle of the table team...
Iranred in London

Wy we dont do straight swap from downing to daren bent

Who wil buy these two?
henderson and dwoning? combined cost us 36 mill to purchase and we sell it for 15 mill and we insult chelsea for torres purchase...

It is easy all you need to do is believe

Hi Eds,

I read somewhere here that Liverpool were scouting the Eredivise quite heavily given it's apparent potential for low-cost signings. Do you know if there is any interest in the following players by Liverpool or any other EPL teams?

Feyenoord's Achahbar, Ajax's Lukoki & Zeefuik (sp) from Groningen?

I haven't picked these names out at random, been quite impressed when I've seen them come on and they're all fairly young.

Cheers,

Don't get why fans are so upset, come back in 3 or 4 seasons when we are completely dominating football! Also regarding the fan stabbed in Italy our thoughts are with you! YNWA

The average fan these days only has an attention span of 2-3 months with regards to success. The amount of 'Brendon Out' posts last week was ridiculous. The likes of Man City and Chelsea will be recruiting a whole load of fickle ex-LFC/ex-Arsenal/ex-Spurs fans this season

cozinoz

Oh I'm so sick of person fans that keep saying wait 3 to 4 years what is ur proof. The way our club is moving i say we r the next arsenal who will be happy to say we r rebuilding wait and see next year, sorry to say that's very sad. I really hope that my beloved reds will become a force again but cannot see it happening with current owners who is willing to let any players leave at the right price.

Daniel Sturridge - 12m
Klaas-Jan Huntelaar - Free (pre-contract in Jan)

Ter Stegen; Kelly, Coates, Wisdom, Enrique/Robinson; Iborra, Shelvey, Holtby/Suso; Borini, Sturridge/Yesil, Sterling/Assaidi

If you're going for Ter Stegen, you might as well sell Reina. Neither will be content to sit on the bench for long.

ed just a question or 2 for ya if you can answer
do you no were we stand in terms of players wages
like were we rank in the prem? the reason i ask i was just trying to see how much we could have back getting rid of a few players who dont give a f##k about the club just there bank balance thats why i have a lot of respect
for dirk kuyt as bad as he was on the pitch at time's he will always be a person who just wanted to play football in my eyes

and is there any chance you can put something beside these people who put up some crap about what the know im on this site i think maybe 5 years now and i love the way its changed over the years but one thing hasn't changed the bulls##t

anyways this is who id like to see in wallcot and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and if we could bring him back Xabi" Alonso also do you think Steven Gerrard might retire from england i do feel it would get him back to his best for 2 more years he looks like he has lost himself

Hi Ed. Any knowledge on interest in Henrikh Mkhitaryan of Shaktar Donetsk? John Bradley said on LFCTV he is available for 12m euros.

27 Nov 2012 19:13:24
Hi Ed002 - we all post our thoughts on here from time to time but I would be really interested to hear which striker is a realistic target to sign up front in Jan taking everything into consideration I.e we're not in the champions league, we're currently mid table and we don't exactly know how much the owners will want to invest this year considering some fairly expensive failures like downing and Henderson. Clearly Sturridge is one option but do you have any other realistic targets. BR was quoted on saying 99.9% of rumours he's heard are untrue. Just want to know if you know what the 0.01% is? Thanks red nick

27 Nov 2012 22:39:56
I dont think rogers will sign anyone high profile in jan as players asking price will go up vastly when lfc enquire.

I expect loan signings only - no return for andy carroll as rogers is stubborn an wont revert to plan B.

Owners & Rogers are prepared for season to be failure with success being regarded top 10

I dont think lfc will be anywhere near top 4 for at least 2 seasons

I expect suarez, johnson, scirtel, reina to leave lfc in summer as all want champion league and club cant compete to that level yet due to finances.

Sorry to be bearer of bad news

Wow talk about negativity.
Suarez, Suso, Agger, Skrtel and Shelvey have all signed long term contracts so they obviously see LFC moving in the right direction so why can't you?

AsianRed

Your not... Your just guessing

Wow what a pessimist!

anyway, plan b? obviously picking up quotes spouted by clueless commentators, don't u have ur own opinions? plan b is a useless term that means nothing, what other teams have a "plan b" ? rodgers changes tactics and formations throughout games, as does every manager.

carrol? rodgers too stubben to bring him back? have u been watching liverpool or west ham this season, rodgers has been proved right!

if players don't want to play for us, then cash in! and buy players who will bleed for the shirt, saying that though i doubt any of the player u suggested will leave the club anyway.

goodnight bearer of bad news, past ur bed time

joeyk

Dont be sorry - we dont believe you anyway

Ur about as pleasent as a fart!

What a load of BS. Fans can be gullible but you've overstretched there sunshine... If you were a regular of this page, you would know such a claim needs to be signed, you didn't so...altogether FAIL!

Any body aware that the players we are linked with are also linked with middle of the table clubs (Newcastle stoke etc) not CL challengers sign of the things to come shop in netto play like netto

Didn't realise netto had a side

Right lads we need to stop with the links to sturridge and bent and huntleaar. For £12m we could probably get Shane long and it would be the best value for money of them all. Great energy and commitment and can play as well. Him and Suarez would be great together.

I believe he'd certainly be available for £12 million. They bought him for £6 million whilst they had a different manager, who certainly had different ideas.

Clarkey might want to invest the money elsewhere. Long at W.B.A has managed 48 games and 15 goals, 7 of which have come in 15 games this season, so the little man is certainly in good form and scoring roughly a goal every other game.

I'd like Rodgers to be brave and despite a section of the fans, who have entitlement issues. Play the market in the lesser leagues and maybe pick up Celtic's Gary Hooper or Burnley's Charlie Austin, maybe both (for maybe the same price as Sturridge/Long would cost. Then maybe look at a promising wide player from Germany or Spain.

Austin is a goal scorer much like Long, i think they are at very similar abilities, Hooper is much the same and maybe the chance to get two natural goal getters who haven't made the jump to a Premiership club, or relative strong leagues, which might bode well in our favour financially. Austin and Hooper are both quite young and would cause havoc and both have much room to improve.

The one player I would like to see at Anfield in jan is Matias Suarez.

I think the lad is a player & would compliment our Suarez but we would have problems getting a visa as uncapped by Argentina.

I have to admit I getting sick of these rumors about Suarez. The owners said he wasn't for sale so I believe them. why would they weaken our already forward line? makes no sense. just a bit of common knowledge. I personally believe we will sign either Bony or Huntelaar. I hope Bony because e reminds me of a Didier Drogba and this will push our drive for 4th spot.

Also I read on a number of sites that people saying get Rodgers out. I have to say this is the best style of football I have seen at anfield. I enjoyed Rafas revolution but thats in the past and Rodgers is our future. The man is doing his best to put a philosophy in place that will have us challenging for trophies and the title. Were not 2 far away. Were about 3 players off been a quality side, not saying were not already. Reina needs a wake up call big time and if he was to go I personally think Ter Stegen would be a top replacement, the man broke 2 of his teeth in training so e not afraid to put his body on the line. Lads lets get behind the team and the results will come together starting with Spurs tomorrow night. what is your view on the players mentioned above? Is Bony relaistic do you think? Id really appreciate this because I follow ur threads on this everyday.

27 Nov 2012 22:13:42
Fickle fans be careful what you wish for and cast your minds back when we on the brink of financial ruin...... The owners have a vision but it will take time for the success to be accomplished.

This is a season for stability, progress, to blood new young players and to create a complete playing style from the academy to the first team.

There is a plan, a surprise signing in January and very good Summer signings which are currently being negotiated.

We know the players that should be leaving but their contracts are such that they are quite happy picking up their payslips without assisting the club by moving on.

''Instant Fans'' the would be ruin of any club's morale, spirit and enjoyment on the boards.

27 Nov 2012 21:54:37
Some people may disagree with this and that's fine, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but this is how I hope LFC go about fixing our striker "crisis".
In my opinion we should be going about signing someone like Huntelaar (not specifically him), but someone who is at that 27-29 age mark who will give us 2-3 really good seasons, and this is why. When those 2-3 seasons pass wouldn't the likes of Samed Yesil and Adam Morgan be ready for the first team, they've already had a look in, in the Europa league and Capital one cup, so why shouldn't they be ready, waiting and hungry after a couple of seasons. Plus we have Jerome Sinclair who will be knocking for a first team opportunity at the same time. I just hope we take this route so we don't stint the growth of some of our youngsters.
Again, I don't mind if you disagree but I'd love to hear your comments, including the Ed's.

I wish Rogers would shutup and concentrate on trying to win games.

Everyday he has somthing to say about how great a job he's doing or how we have no money or we have to build with youth or how every other club had great players blah blah blah.

I keep hearing how well we played but we still only have won 3 games.

It's about time he starts to realise he is no longer at Swansea and he's at a club that expects to win games week in weak out. He should be fighting with FSG asking for quality players and money not pandering to them.

Its starting to seem like FSG have employed a man who is in awe of them, who won't upset the apple cart, won't question the lack of ambition, make him believe he is building a team for the future. FSG had him over on the Carroll departure and he just let them do it!

We are going nowhere fast at the moment, more likely be overtaken by other teams around us, end up mid table.....

Grow some and start saying draws aren't good enough and we need to do better...

I just laughed at this post...a manager is required to do interviews and in those interviews, answer question. Yeah why not slagg off the team and have a huge dressing room split like Chelsea, sounds like a great idea.

I believe the reason Kenny was sacked and Rafa was not considered was because FSG wanted a yes man

Grape Ape

Kenny was sacked fo the same reason rafa wasnt hired, wasted hundreds of millilons on rubbish

Yes this is true he is a yes man, but also very good at pr, I would ask everyone to look at the stats for the last 5 games he is getting it right we just don't have two good men up front we only have one.
A little time and money and then we can judge him.
Until then we should all back him IMO.
BTW I went crazy when he got the job.

Watching Aston villa game Darren bent not even on subs bench again 100 percent off to liverpool feel its going to happen he will fit straight in side with Suarez playing off him what do you think ed {Ed001's Note - why would we move Suarez to fit in a Villa reserve player?}

27 Nov 2012 20:53:48
Who do the fans think we should buy in january that

A) wont displace suarez wide

B) scores goals and can play anywhere in the front 3 (versatile)

C) is realistic/wants to join LFC and at fair price

As ive seen people say that almost everyone being linked with us injanuary as not good enough so would love to know whod be better options which tick the above boxes

Please comment below

Shak Attack

Walcott although wage may be an issue

Gotta be Honda! But doubt he would want to join although ed002 said the best time to buy him would be January.

Square tomato

If the money is as tight as BR saying then I would take bent on loan proven prem striker will score , gamble with foregen players so what till summer

Henderson to Sunderland with Sessegnon + plus cash our way. The lad can beat a man, play in a front 3, pick a pass, score a goals and is full of energy and would also hit the ground running if we want 4th place.

Aubameyang and Schurrle would be my dream two signings. Pace, versatility upfront (both can play as strikers or wingers), eye for goals too and both are young. Unfortunately I don't think we will sign them. :(

I swear Square Tomato is Honda's dad from his posts :) Good call though mate

I've heard a lot of rumours about Darren Bent on loan till the end of the season, he did score plenty of goals previously and was signed for £24M not so long ago. So maybe not a bad option. Unfortunately I don't think FSG are going to release significant funds so I don't think people should be getting excited over the players coming in, no major signings just a few loans, I'm afraid the days of £20M + signings may well be over !

Good to see nobody believes an personic word you say.

Bent's wages are too high

All this about sturridge. The boy is good and fits into brendans style he is avery very good player selfish or not u dont say that about luis!

Finally a chelsea fan here....really wanna get rid of sturridge...

Sturridge would be a good signing and an improvement to our squad. What's the latest with Sturridge eds? Also after what Rodgers said today is there a chance we could get Sturridge on loan or would he be a permanent transfer only?

Cheers

Seeing bent in the stands again must mean there are off the field issues with him. As much as a decent finisher he is we currently have a good team spirit so even tho it's nothing more than speculation why would we want to jeopardise that?

Chelsea plot suarez bid.....what a load of tabloid cr*p.....who will he be linked with next Real Madrid or Barca ??...get a life...Luis is going nowhere

27 Nov 2012 19:38:03
Does anyone know how many penalties Darren Bent has scored in his competitive career? If you just consider goals from open play, I suspect he is not a 1:2 striker, but a 1:3 striker at best and is therefore not what we are looking for unless we are desperate of course..........

If we get Darren Bent,i for one wont be moaning,he's a proven goal scorer in the prem, and lets be honest, better than fabio borini and adam morgan,he's better than getting nothing, and theres a good chance of nothing....

Alan Shearer scored a huge amount of pens which make his goal return look mighty impressive but he wasn't too shabby

27 Nov 2012 19:17:20
I can't wait until Lucas is back in the team fulltime, I think we're going to see the Joe Allen we expected now that he'll be further forward and will have the freedom of knowing Lucas is behind him covering... I really think it will make a world of difference.

would people please stop believing these suarez rumours.... he has recently signed a new deal and has stated that he is happy at liverpool and wants to remain there for many years to come! cheers

Hopefully you are right and he will stay. Personally, I think he will stay, but the fact he just signed a new contract means sweet FA. The number of players that get sold shortly after signing a new contract is ridiculous. Half the time I am worried that when a player signs a new contract, the club has done it just to increase the sale price. Contracts in football are less about scouring a player than commercial shrewdness these days.

The weekend draw at Swansea wasn't enough to cause sleepless nights in Barcelona. Neither was it a Masterclass in penetration.
However, there were some positives...Enrique further forward, improved Pepe, Sterling and Agger played very well etc.
I said a couple of years ago that, regretably, Steven Gerrard is mostly a spent force. I said that the team actually plays better and with less fear without him.
I haven't changed my mind.
I have said for years that we need a DM specialist ....Lucas,Allen and Henderson aren't Defensive Midfielders. Lucas Leiva has spent his entire LFC career out of postition without once complaining. Henderson and Allen have covered wherever asked to but they aren't being used properly. Sahin is a fantastic player who has been shackled through neccessity.
A top-class specialist DM would unleash Lucas,Allen,Sahin, Suso and Henderson to play their more natural roles. With Gerrard as an impact-sub you've got a mouthwatering midfield which could be the envy of everybody.
Add a striker/winger to compliment Suarez, Borini and Sterling....I mean a PROPER goalscorer....and we are talking about mounting a proper assault on all fronts!
Ideally Mascherano and Cavani coming in, with Downing, Cole and Carroll leaving for no money spent!!..........Okay, I'm dreaming.
On our (reported) budget we should perhaps be a little more shrewd in January. Instead of paying well over the odds in transfers fees and contracts (as per previous regimes) we could maybe try to target possible loanees.....Marko Marin or Darrent Bent perhaps?
I'm only thinking out loud but our past mistakes are scattered throughout the top-half of the table...players and coaches who may well make us pay for our ineptitude.
Even the most ardent Kopite would be foolish to defend our transfer record over recent years.
If we end January without Luis Suarez and no World-Class replacements I will say a silent prayer for our Club as I search the loft for my "Yanks Out" banner.....I'm sure it won't quite come to that but I'm prepared for another disappointing transfer-window (you won't catch me out again!)
ANFIELDPETE

I'm not sure you've watched the same Lucas that I have, friend. He's a DM and a very solid one.

~Fresh

Lucas Leiva must be the best defensive midfielder who is not a defensive midfielder in the world then

To be fair to ANFIELDPETE, Lucas was an attacking midfielder at Gremio. Rafa adapted his game

Joe

Mascherano is not a better defensive mid or footballer than Lucas. What makes you think Cavani would be this massive success?

Eds heard that were interested in a lad called messi from barca. Do you know of him . Is he any good. To be honest never heard of him. butter my source says he picked him up at john lennon airport and dropped him to lfctv as he's seeing Claire rouke and would join us to be closer to her. Ah the power of love.

Well its no worse that Will follow later. When people watching game on sky start asking if were linked with every player that plays a good pass or scores.

Roll on spurs. Would love 3 pts but find it very unlikely as we don't know how to turn draws into wins.
Keep up the good work.

Some talk on here about taking 40 Million if offered for Suarez.

Personally I think it would be a real bad mistake especially with our recent track record of wasting money in transfer market.

We need to keep our best players. Simple as!!

Also I am really pleased the way Enrique is playing of late. I hope his form continues. He can be added to the list of players we need to keep too.

Tom werner needs to stop talking rubbish to the press. First he said in the summer we can compete with any club for signings then they can't spare 3 million for Dempsey after getting rid of most our forwards. Now he said every player has a price and says we need to reduce the wage bill and sell to Buy to balance the books. Well sell who has he seen how thin the squad is. Seems like werner has not got a clue and i expect them to sell Suarez as soon as they convert 40 million in to dollars. FSG another bunch of owners i have never and will never trust. Also it seems Rodgers and Werner just say nothing to each other i mean do they even communicate. If Suarez is sold then they should lower ticket prices in line with lower league clubs.

I think Dempsey was more out of principal than anything, you seem to forget that we still spent 30m in Summer, top 10 in the world in spending! FSG run the Red Sox, they know that investment is needed to win but they tried the instant 100m investment, and it didn't work, they will invest bit by bit, every now and then they will splash maybe 20-30m on a player needed. I think we need to give these owners a few transfer windows. We all say "oh look how much we have saved in wages" but this money will not be all got until the end of the year, and I think the owners will add the wage money saved into the kitty. Basically, give the owners and BR a chance over a few transfer windows,

Cheers,

Irish Redman

^ As i've said before if Luis is sold then it won't be long and FSG will be gone too! The comment's by Tom Werner that we can compete with anyone and the fan's will be happy after the transfer window were just to pacify us! the noise's coming out now that we've gotta balance the book's every player has his price no big buisness in the January window are worrying comment's! Or am i reading to much into those comment's Ed002?

FSG were fleeced in their first transfer windows,so they are not going to rush into it again. Also unfortunaltly we/they are still paying off losses, like the Ed's keep telling us, £50M per season so far. Thats a lot of money going out for nothing. We may turn a corner this summer and back into the black so to speak, then we can look at building a force. We just need to limp through this season. So far BR as done a super job on limited resources and a big round of appluase to the players for stepping up.
Especially the young guys.
Keep the faith things will get better, it was never going to happen this season. Ed/s can you back me on the losses situ?

I believe we should not read much into Rodgers statement regarding money as it is well evident spending big in last few Windows hasn't served us well nd in fact we have had to pay inflated prices for players...come Jan I will be happy with couple of loan signing such as bent nd jeffren nd tello from Barcelona. .bent is very possible with maybe Cole or downing going other way on loan ..if there is good player available buy but otherwise no point buying for sake of buying....I would say sell Carroll nd Henderson if we can rather then loaning or keeping as fringe player....I'm still hoping we can get few player nd Rodgers can find his best team nd build on..

FSG let 11 players leave its about signing replacements for them which Werner has said he will not do without selling players.

Luis Suarez's Agent responds to ongoing transfer speculation...

"Luis has a contract with Liverpool, so any information will be passed to them. He just wants to focus on his football".

That's hardly an emphatic validation of Suarez's future at Liverpool. It would've been much more reassuring if Guardiola had something along the lines of: "Suarez is fully committed to Liverpool and has no intention of leaving in the summer", but he just states the facts: Suarez had a contract, and any information about transfer bids will be passed to the club.

{Ed002's Note - This seems like very old news to me - try not to scaremonger.}

"There's been a million names linked... but the brutal honesty is that 99.9% of those we haven't been thinking about..."

If we do the maths, that means that there's a 1000 of those names that we are thinking about. No wonder Brendan works such long hours - LOL

Brian YNWA (in pedantic mood)

99.9 so well be welcoming Bent, Jeffren and Hooper then lol

Hi Eds just a quick question did we put a clause on the contracr of tom ince when he went to blackpool , wither buy back for x amount or first refusal.

personally think hes a good player but i dont think he would want to come back to us after we let him go, because he was demanding more money and we wouldnt pay it. {Ed002's Note - No, there won't be anything like that.}

There is a 35% sell on clause.

Why would we want him back anyway? We have far better youngsters with far better attitudes waiting in the wings...

Not saying either will join LFC, but if you could sign either Walcott or Sturridge for Pool, which would you choose?

Walcott for me.

Singapore Red

Walcott definately

I have reservations over both players, i don't think Daniel Sturridge is much of a team player, but he'd not command £100k a week but i do think he'd score more goals playing (playing regularly) as a striker than Theodore Walcott will.

Walcott is apparently holding out over money with Arsenal, after they took a massive chance on him as a young player and have done a lot for him in his career to date. Yet he doesn't care and wants £100k a week, so i'd imagine he'd want the same playing for Liverpool, irrelevant of being a ''boy hood'' fan of Liverpool. Thus Theor has a question mark over his name in terms of loyalty.

I think Sturridge would play in defence if he was asked, so starved of regular first team football, i also doubt Benitez is allowed to drop Torres if he's fit. :)

Walcott wants the central striker role, i don't like that we know that, even before he's at our club, in the squad or on the team sheet.

I say Sturridge, because i've just convinced myself Theo is a Owen mark II.

Today, Rafa has said how Torres peaked when he was at Liverpool, and that the Chelsea team need to help him get back to his best. Now by speaking the truth here, Rafa has basically admitted he cannot reach the peak of his ability (the Liverpool years). So now after Rafa's own analysis (which is key), its now time to ask the big question, and the truthful one which no-one ever discusses... Did we virtually cripple Torres's future when he was with us? Is how he is now, all down to us?

It's a fact, since the 08/09 season when he needed knee surgery, we rushed him back too soon from his little injuries, as we had no cover and Rafa wanted him starting as many games as possible. We needed him to win games single-handedly. And we did not tell him or his people the complete truth about the state of his injuries, so he pushed his body further (this non-disclosure of info is backed up by many high profile sources). After having 2 knee surgeries in a 4 months period, he then played at the World Cup, further damaging his knee and groin which affected his form coming in to the 10/11 season. Through all of this he became very disallusioned, and didn't really put the effort in.

That's why when he decided he wanted to leave in January, and we wanted to sell, (of course this wasn't made public at the time) we waited to the last few hours of the window, as we knew he couldn't pass a medical, and that Chelsea wouldn't have the time to complete a full medical. Superficial quick scans would show 'a lack of match fitness', and not reveal the root cause of his problems. Torres handed in a transfer request near the start of the window, but we said to him we wanted a replacement first before he went (the Suarez deal), and asked him to wait and not go public. And we deliberately took our time over the deal, not only to try and get the best price for Suarez, but also delay Torres leaving earlier, and then failing a medical, and as a result his value would have plummeted. We brought in Carroll with the idea that the fans would think HE was the Torres replacement, but he was an investment that was agreed from separate transfer activity.

Whilst this is all just a rumour, it makes so much sense. Did we really, actually, sell a dud for £50m? It's clear he lost his pace, which won't come back, and I'm curious to how much we exactly contributed to this? And if so, then Rafa was giving the all clear for this to happen. Playing him injured, pushing his knee to far etc. So how does Torres really feel about the manager who possibly ruined his career? Or does he blame LFC medical staff and not Rafa, but Rafa knew and played him anyway and as a result has destroyed the pace he once had.

When Torres says how 'the truth will come out eventually' and all that, he must be referring to this, he thinks we lied and ruined him. But I'm sure we are not completely all to blame, the player himself must take some responsibility as he also played from such a young age, with constant injuries since his Atletico Madrid days. His attitude wasn't the greatest either, and he never spoke to Stevie or Carra properly when at LFC. And the club just took advantage of a situation and were opportunistic, and Rafa had a legacy in this decision.

And I do wonder, after all that went on, will Rafa now need to sell him in January? The man who arguably started Torres's problems, could be the man who ends it all over again. I'm just glad we have Suarez, our real future, and whilst LFC could have treated Torres better, he can't play the blame game forever and I think should just accept where he's at now. But today with Rafa's comments has reminded us of the past treatment of Torres, which whilst wasn't the most sporting, was the most effective in getting the best football out of him during the time he was here. As a fan, I can't argue it from a business view, but it does leave me a little sour with all that had gone on, and I'm not sure what to really believe.
RC

Conspiracy page please

RC that sounds very plausible, the problem is that when an employer has paid you a salary of £10m or £20m for a few years service in return you normally have to sign a NDA or other legal agreement not to disclose the inner dealings of your employer or any other specific topic they wish to keep quiet

Leam Red

What a pointless post about a player who no longer plays for us.... Who cares about torres n rafa, they are not part of our club anymore .....Thanks for the 50 million Chelsea....suckers lol

Rafa has immediately set the expectation regarding Torres quite low. This gives him room to play Torres at least 5 games in a row without expecting too much in terms of Chelsea, Torres and Rafa himself, this is Rafa'tics (Rafa's politics) at it's truest.

Rafa was only brought back to get one player back in form, i believe. I don't think ''zonal marking'' will suit any of the English defenders at Chelsea, maybe Luiz is familiar with it from Benfica, i don't know. I also don't know if Rafa has implemented zonal marking, yet or if he see's it as a project that will take longer than he has got, to be any kind of success.

Torres at Liverpool was the king, he was talked about as one of the best in the World, he won a lot with Spain and he's very hyped up, no doubt he has an ego to match the media ink wasted on him.

''The truth will come out'' I bet it can all be found explained at length in his ghost written book, whenever it comes out., if it's out already and i'm ignorant to this, then it shows how much i care for footballer's and book in the same sentence.

Haha RC u need 2 get out more get ye self a bird lad torres is single. L F C fazak

What a bizarre post

Poor torres on 100k plus a week sulky spoilt boy most of its in his head needs to change his attitude his body language stinks can see rafa sending him back to espania and bringing in falcoa and another forward

I have also got this info from the same high profile sources, that rafa never liked torres and only bought him to ruin his career, he even went so far as to rob his local doctors framed qualifications off his wall tipexed it out and put in his owe name, all before FT arrived, by all accounts FT was very impressed that rafa was a qualified doctor and trusted him immediately, he became over the moon when rafa offered to become his personal physician, and from there on we know how the story goes. why would he take the chelsea job? to finish thew job he started.

KUMBER

I guess Chelsea don't bother with very thorough medicals then?

cozinoz

I have never heard such rubbish in my life. Firstly the doctors would tell the patient before telling the club. Secondly Chelsea do medicals the same as everyone else. Third just because the announcement was late who was to say he was not already at Chelsea and had already had a medical. This is just gossip

Evening All, can anybody let me know if tomorrows game is on TV it doesn't seem to be ??

Sky or ESPN ??

Jim

Games on radio
match of day highlights on bbc 1
or first row sports on line

How can you persons click disagree when all he did was ask a question?

When that happens, i usually resort to watching it online, naughty as it maybe.

I have Virgin T.V, for what it's worth, but even with them, sometimes i can't find it on T.V. and that's all i want it for, not cricket, golf, darts or wind surfing and volley ball, just football.

When i was little, about 7 or 8, i didn't have the luxury of having cable/satilite as an option, nor the Internet, i remember listening to Liverpool vs Bristol City in the F.A cup and it going to penalties back when we had Grobs in goal, we lost the game but it was great, barely hearing the match through the bad reception i was getting and through the roar of the crowd. :)

No be on al jazeera

It will be on the Tinternet if you are in the uk,
unless you can get foreign satilite..

some fans on here need to give there heads a shake and stop moaning about certain players. years ago when LFC were the BEST, we had players that made mistakes or were not the greatest players in the world, but were brilliant team players. what i am trying to say guy's is that if you spent as much time getting behind the players and management as you do whinging, then maybe they will have more confidence. we all know that we need a striker and creative player for midfield, so if we do buy in Jan window, whether they are a star or not lets get behind them. in BR i trust
LEP72

We have players in our team who are not the greatest players AND are not the greatest team players either. For example, Henderson, Downing, Johnson and Allen.

We don't give players time to grow into the team, their positions, and overall game. Lucas, as a prime example, took over a year to get things ticking in the right direction, 2 - 3 years until he became instrumental to Liverpool.

We have too many ''instant fans'' that see Man City and Chelsea's example of buying expensive finished article players on huge wagers as something we must follow and we simply can't maintain or sustain approaching the game like this any more.

This is why Rodgers was brought in: a young manager, never managed a big club, expectations aren't hugely inflated, he's never had a £20 million kitty to play with. Has a good philosophy and received a lot of praise from journalists and football pundits for running a tight ship at Swansea.

Allen, are u serious?as soon as lucas comes back u will see allen get better.he had a good start to season but has not had his best few games by his standards

What's so amazing to me is that if someone posts anything positive, supportive or uplifting on here, the first thing you see is a disagree. There are some real miserable trolls. Could you imagine their lives. Moan from breakfast to bed every day. UUUgggggggggggghhh!! Eds I don't know how you do it.

A couple of points I'd like to make. Delighted with Borrells promotion. I think he is so good at this level with the youth. If he continues producing the talent to come through then we can save tens of millions over the next 4-5 years. FFP impact will be huge with homegrown academy talent and a sound wage structure if we can keep churning out young talent like Suso, Wisdom and Sterling.
I think tomorrows game is the biggest of the season so far. We need a positive result. We need to keep pace and continue our stout defense and attack AVB's high line. 3 pts would be a huge boost going into December where we could potentially gather 16 out of the 18 points on offer. Here's hoping........

Chi-Paul

Again people slating Henderson... All last season he was played out of position on the right n it's the same this season.... Right back ?? It's a joke, he has the potential just like Lucas did... Look how he turned out...play him in centre midfield n he will get more confidence in himself n then il be back saying I told you so.... As for Carroll n downing yeah ur right on them two

Just a thought but most people on here have said theyd rather a proven striker with prem experience come the transfer window and not an unproven foreign talent who needs time to adjust, so on that basis whats wrong with Bent?....
Theres non more proven and he gets goals for fun to be honest, he'll hit the ground running and we need a poacher...what do we have to lose really?
some people are never satisfied...and forget Cavani cause his ilk will not be coming here for the forseeable future as regardless of cash we have no champions league to offer.
Id take Bent now.
YNWA JFT96

Bent has one good game, then he is injured. IMHO he has a bad attitude, not wanted at our club. aklfc

10 goals in all competitions last season is not scoring goals for fun for a striker. he seems to have been struggling for a while now and i'm not convinced he would suit our style of play x

Darren Bent scores goals, he's scored 122 goals in 280 games in the Premier League according to his career so far, which i've just read. He does have injury problems but ultimately doesn't have the all important and crucial four letters on the end of his name ''inho''.

Thus he is under rated, over looked and often mocked. All English/British players are, except some under the age 23, Wilshere, Chamberlain, Walker, there are a few and even one or two English/British players over the age of 23 such as Joe Hart who are considered by the majority as ''decent'' or ''good' but there are not many who escape the jeers and boos of the majority.

With Bent, i think at 28 it's fair to say he's seen his best years and now at his prime will only go down hill (how fast only time will tell), so it depends on how much Villa would be asking for Darren Bent. Before i'd knock it, personally i think he's good for at least another 50 goals, at Sunderland he scored 36 in 63 games and he's scored 22 goals in 52 games at Villa so far.

He is rubbish ok for bottom half of league teams him and downing in the same team yeh thats champions league standards not

Hi eds and fellow reds. I'm just wondering if Ian Ayre is going to stay in the job he has at the minute. Has anyone heard any rumblings of discontent lately, or has anyone heard of anyone new coming into that job. There has to be a better football director, or excecutive officer, or whatever his job is.

Hi eds is it just me or are we really fustrating to watch , stevie keeps tryin 40 yrd balls and to me he doesnt seem to get the 1-2 patient build up and when we have had the ball for a certain amount of time someone tries doing a long pass instead of keeping hold and wokring left to right for the opposition to make a mistake then we can try that clever through ball like barca personally and it pains me to say this but gerrard is there now to raise peoples he isnt a impact player anymore lost the pace i would play Allen Lucas Suso in midfield.

Lucas - ball winner keeps things tight at the back

Allen - Finds the space and keeps hold of ball

Suso - creative mid to dribble past people and find a gap in the defence.

Cheers REDAN

Long term that's out midfield. Perhaps with Shelvey in for Allen/Suso when more presence or drive is required.

Personally when Lucas is fit, I'd move Gerrard forward (if he's not going to be rested/dropped for the league) and play that team.

Henderson is good back up and Sahin may settle, but right now that's the best balance.

Papa G

At least he's trying to make an opening! What's the point in passing around our half for 20 mins just to lose it, get it back and then let the defenders and keeper get us into messes! Also when he does play it short I've noticed this season, the opposition seems to be through on goal due to a woeful pass! Bang him up front is what I say.

Disappointed so far in Sahin
The next big thing is Texeria, this lad is going to be world class.
You think Suso is good (and he is), Texeria is even better, a bit green at the moment but he will be in the first team squad next year. Mark my words

Suarez was very close leaving Liverpool fc for Juventus. He and his agent pere Guardiola even met juventus officials but owners didn't wanted to sell him and trippled his wages in order to tempt him to sign longterm contract and promised him we will fight for champions league places now it seems that Suarez is not happy coz of lack of champions league or lack of quality in our squad.
If he leaves then don't blame the owner coz they have done everything to keep him its up to Suarez.

Please state your source saying Suarez isn't happy? I say he is.

Its looking like this for January

Tom Ince for 6m
Daniel Sturridge 12m
Darren Bent on loan

Not great business another 18m wasted on ordinary players. The madness of our club is exemplified in regards to Ince, we let him go for 57k just over a year ago. Blackpool must be wetting themselves laughing at us, making money doesn't come easier than when you deal with Liverpool FC. Our club is run by mugs, they seem incapable of spending money wisely when British players are involved.

Bent on loan will be ok though as long as we haven't agreed to buy him for 15m in summer.

Geats

No way will we spend 12m on sturridge we have bin told we have no money! Bent on Loan would be great I think he's a goal scorer a proven one

I bet it looks nothing like that in Jan.

Is it looking like that?

MIKEY

If we have been told we have no money, then its time we accepted that FSG are not competitive owners and Liverpool will remain a mid table club while they are in charge.

27 Nov 2012 15:44:29
I really think the 2nd half of the season will be much better. The fixtures are alot kinder,we will have Lucas back, freeing up Allen and Gerrard, and making us tighter.
Hopefully we will also purchase a striker of sorts, somebody else who can add goals in the front 3,Borini will also be back,so we should have real competition for places.
The team are playing Rodgers style better, more efficiently, and this improvement should continue.
Pepe Reina also played well against Swansea, kept a clean sheet and had some good saves that kept us in the game, maybe now we can start to see a bit more consistency from him?
The youngsters are holding themselves well, and will improve with every minute on the pitch. It will be easier when/if Kelly comes back this season,Downing may not have to be used at left back,Johnson on the Left with Kelly right and Enrique upfield would be the best option IMO.
Brendan said it will be long, and there will be pain along the way,but the future looks bright. Its not just hollow promises.

So now that the Inglethorpe rumors are true, I'd like to get one of your opinions on the matter, Eds.

Also would you mind giving me a little knowledge on how Inglethorpe is rated as a coach? I know Tottenham have developed some very good youth players recently, but that's all I know, so your insight would be much appreciated.

Personally I'm a little hesitant to see Borrell move upstairs, because he is such a great coach and this role would see him become a little more hands off.

Thanks! {Ed002's Note - I know little of Inglethorpe myself but I am told that if you look to the number of players that have come through the academy in to the first team at Spurs it is indeed testament to the work he and Allen have done with the youngsters.}

I know of a player who worked with Inglethorpe when he was at Exeter; he said he was a talented and motivational coach and he was really sorry to see him leave. He's was highly regarded down here in Devon.

Yeah mate, i live in Exeter and heard he was heard in very high regard.

davethebutcher

By "he and Allen", do you mean Clive Allen? {Ed002's Note - Right.}

some of you really need to pull your head out of the clouds. WE HAVE NO MONEY full stop. the owners will put in as little or if any come jan. big players will not be coming. we dont have the money. also br dont want big name. why dont alot of you just sit and hear what the club is trying to tell you. there is no smokesceen. this is the way the club is going now under fsg. shame but true

stu

I seem to remember the mancs have always signed the best young talents both from within and outside the league, and using them to push the club on...is that so shameful?

Singred

Stu, seriously mate, what club do you support?

Sick of people being whiny little blankets about the owners. Do you really think if they hadn't come in and spent the fortune they spent clearing away our debt, we would be splashing out big money on superstar signings now?
Get real. In my eyes they did enough right there but they still put money in for transfers last summer. give them a chance to make some money back before they overhaul the squad!
In the meantime they have compensated for us not being able to compete financially by installing a young manager with the right ideas to try and outplay the opponents tactically.

x

My point was not having go at the owners. i was saying what i said because some on here think we are going to spend millons and i think we all know thats not going to happen.

stu

You haven't a clue whats going to happen, Stu, nor have we. Better to have hope and trust than tell everyone things are awful on the off chance you might be proved right. It's in FSGs interest to at least make the Europa this season and they had money available for a striker in the summer, so why wouldn't they invest in one in January?

this is to eds and anyone else who has an opion... why would we want to buy Darren bent?a player that cant get on for villa? had a good spell at sunderland that one time... wouldn't like to see him at Liverpool at all

Why would we want to see Darren Bent at Liverpool? Maybe because of his goal scoring. An area in which we have had a problem now for a while. I cannot understand the animosity shown to him by fans here, when his name is mentioned. Am I perhaps unaware of a terrible sleight upon our club by him. If he did come and he continued to score goals like he has at each club he's been (20 in 47 at Villa isn't bad). I'll support him for the fact he'd be wearing a Liverpool jersey.

Hey ed002 do you have any idea what the retailers cut is from your average £50 football shirt? I see the subject has popped up again. I just wondered how much goes to warrior and how much to the retailer. An educated guess would be about £40 to warrior and £10 to the retailer maybe less.

I do love Suarez as a player but here are 10 reasons why I wouldn't mind if he is sold for 40m.

1. Not so prolific if one considers the chances to goal ratio and his link up play sometimes is a bit untidy.

2. With 40m, we could sign, Bony 12m, Eder 15m, Beneat 8m and Hemed 7m. Goals galore and plenty of creativity from this bunch rather than relying on Suarez alone.

3. He deserves to play with better players and win something.

4. We have very little funds for investment.

5. Every player has his price and 40m is good business.

6. Add the 15 - 20m we could get for Carrol and Downing and you could sign Walcot and a left back with that making us even much stronger.

7. Someone else would step up and might even exceed Suarez contribution he is sold.

8. He is a transient member of the squad and the world won't end if he is sold.

9. He is just a bit too hot headed at times.

10. Suck it up and move on if Suarez is sold cos the future is brighter

Biggy.

Here is two reasons why he shouldn't be sold for 40 Mill.

1) - He is worth more than when we sold torres!

2) He is the TOP GOAL SCORER in the prem! Probaly the hardest league.

JD

There's that new word again? Transient!!
Give it a rest mate! Your making yourself look really stupid. A Transient Thick Head! in fact.
"Who do you really support" ?

Go home mate, 40 ,mil is a steal for suarez, one of the greatest players on the planet, 50 mil and no less, he needs to stay, anyway hes pure class, how can u not see that! do some back ground research on what he is like as a man, athlete and employe etc!
suarez goin no where for me

billynwa

I kind of agree. It is a very risky move for the owners considering the apparent lack of goodwill and trust they have with the fan base at this point. If they do it and they mess up the reinvestment they are in big trouble from a ticket selling and credibility standpoint.

On the other hand, if you get 40-60MM for Suarez you could, as you point out, sign between 3 & 6 players to fill a lot of holes that you have. The issue is you have to reinvest the money correctly. if you sign 6 guys 4 of them have to pan out. if you sign 3, at least 2 maybe all of them have to pan out.

An example of someone who did this was the late 1980's Dallas Cowboys. Traded Herschel Walker for several players and draft picks. The draft picks were the backbone of the super bowl years for dallas with the team drafting Emmitt Smith and Darren Woodson among others.

The strategy can work if executed correctly. Or you could sell Fernando Torres for 50MM and reinvest most of it in Andy Carroll!!

With the team needing several positions to be improved if I could get 60MM for him, I would do it and buy a left back, left wing and a couple of strikers. I agree with Bony would be at the top of my list. I would also do it simultaneously or buy first with the sell agreed upon already so I don't get extorted on my buys.

Lee

Bony, eder, magic, miracle. all these players y should they come to us?
coz we have 40 mill??wen there are CL and title contenders waiting for them?
suarez is the only man we can atrract other players o the club...
when torres was sold for 50 mill did we got aguero?, dzeko? llorente?
footballers choose a better prospect, project and package..
and currently on our form no one would wanna try and come to us...
simple..
keep suarez and add some fire power and reach top 4...

1.) He is the top scorer in the Prem, so his ratio means nothing. He's top. End of.

2.) You assume we'd be interested in all of them. You also assume they'd all want to come to Liverpool. This is dangerous logic.

3.) What the hell do you mean he 'deserves' to play with better players? We have great players, and he loves it here.

4.) None of us know the funds for investment except FSG.

5.) Every player has his price but £40m most definitely isn't enough.

6.) We could buy a left back and winger in the summer, Wisdom and Johnson are good enough to hold the wide areas in defense at the moment and we are looking to buy a couple of forwards in Jan (according to Eds)

7.) 'Might' isn't good enough, 'might' was what happened when we got Carroll and he 'might' have been good. He wasn't. We've got a proven scorer who lights the Kop up.

8.) Every member is transient, that isn't a reason to move them on.

9.) So what if he is too hot headed? Better than moping around and not caring - his passion is what makes him utterly fantastic.

10.) 'Suck it up' - What does that even mean?

Suarez shouldn't be sold. We stuck by him through all the controversy, and he's rewarding us with brilliant goals.

The Premiership, the hardest league in the world, you are having a laugh. Have you seen the German league recently, awesome!

1. Forget all this ratio BS. Suarez is currently the top scorer in the premiership, the 'best' league in the world.

2. Remind me, what happened last time we blew 40m in January...?

3. No one 'deserves' anything.

4. Only point I agree with.

5. No it is not good business when you look at the 50m we got for an out of form injured Torres.

6. Even of we did make that money up through sales, I would rather it be used in the summer, than panic buy in January.

7. Unfortunately we have no one even close to being as good as him.

8. Haha alright ED 002

9. It's called passion lad, he cares.

10. I imagine most will 'suck it up and move on' but only of we get a decent fee for him oh and he doesn't go to Chelsea or City!

No one is begrudging him a move, but it's the old classic, it's need to be a good deal for everyone. That's said, I for one want him to stay.

davethebutcher

Why do you want keep buying 4 to 6 players no point at all. he is not going anywhere so stop talking crap

stu

So we will become a selling club and have no ambition but to raise money, the 40 r 50 m whatever you get from the sale of suarez you have to put back into the team and gamble on players you bring in that hasnt been sucessful in the past i for 1 think building a team around suarez is the way forward.Tommy Irish Red

Suarez is the best player in LFC and he simply has to stay. That man shows more effort, belief and determination than any other player in the team that I can think of. You do not sell your best players because this is not Ajax or Porto (who have to sell their best regularly to keep the ship afloat). This is Liverpool Football Club. Selling him would send out all kinds of wrong signals. It's not about mathematics where you sell him then replace him with 3-4 players who theoretically could score the same number of goals, but no one can guarantee that they will. ra1969

For £40 million, they could have an arm and a leg. For the whole suarez I would charge upwards of £60 million.

Hi eds and reds!

Just passing on something that just came into my mind..

Is it possible that rodgers is telling that we dont have money because when kenny was here we spent hilariously on british talents and the clubs demanded more..So is it possilble that brendon is just reducing some millions????

Aneesh
YNWA {Ed002's Note - No idea Aneesh, but I rather suspect that the fans are reading too much into it.}

Aneesh of course mate, why would managers tell u everything about whats going on! its all mind games.

Rodgers is just the coach.

He does as he is told.

Willingly.

Boston Red

Who tells him what to do then?
Rogers is the manager and coach. He advises on players he would like to buy and sell and then people above him make that happen if possible. Rogers is then left to work with the players that are left/brought in being his choice of players, even though they may have been his 3rd/4th choice.

Hey Ed's! I follow liverpool in good and bad times, but just read that liverpool wont go on any shopping spre next transfer window. They would rather loan players from other clubs. Do you know what kind of players that are listed for loan and possible targets for Pool..?

So we're 9 points off 4th with a possible 75 points to play for and fans are saying were not the team we used to be and we will end up mid table, looking back over recent weeks with 2 shocking decisions add to that a win v spurs mid week we would be sitting in 5th 2 points off 4th 3 points off 3rd, not bad for a team in transition. All we need now is a quality winger and striker in January and the champions league is well within reach. So let's see what fsg do first before they get slated, we will know exactly what their plans are after the transfer window.

Reading between the lines there is no doubt LFC will bring in a couple of forwards in January, however it makes financial sense to look at loan signings. Why pay silly money for a forward that may not deliver. Over the years we have seen many forwards come and go, most it seems cannot handle the pressure of playing for Liverpool. With a loan signing we would at least have the option of the sending the player back to the club if they fail to put the ball in the back of the net.

I think LFC may well bring in someone like Bent. Whilst he doesn't exactly fill me with excitement, he does bring goals and he is probably available having fallen out with his manager. FSG in my mind are right to follow this path in the iterim, at least until the summer when they can take stock. Our poor past transfer dealings and our inability to recoup our outlay on the likes of Downing and Carroll still haunt this great club. Hopefully we will be in a better position in the summer....We must be patient with the owners and BR...YNWA

Eds, here's an idea. I've noticed via the tab at the top of the page there are options to go to football club pages. It's like a forum where fellow fans can discuss transfers, football & support their club. Have you ever considered doing a similar like page for Liverpool?

dd

27 Nov 2012 13:53:07
Out of all the possible targets, my twopence worth is that the best and most economical option would be Huntelaar. He is a predator in front of goal and scored again at the weekend. He comes with a huge goal scoring pedigree, has played with Suarez before and if we can get him for half the cost of a Sturridge or similar then it is a NO BRAINER

I agree on Huntelaar, only thing is Schalke are 3rd in the Bundesliga with a real good chance of Champions League qualification. So the 6M they could probably get for him in January is negligible compared 30M+ they would get for CL qualification. Think on that basis Schalke would sooner let him go for nothing in the summer. Unless of course some club would like to make a much better offer than 6M.

Every player deserves a break after a tough season. Although with the Euro in crisis perhaps a nice weekend in Edinburgh would be preferable.

Eds, Do you think Marvin Emnes is good enough to make it in the premier league and/or as a liverpool player. He seems to have talent and speed. I know Rogers wanted him to stay at swansea after his loan spell.

Phil Mc {Ed002's Note - I have no idea whether he would be good enough or not, sorry.}

Ed 002 Instead of asking people to use the search function to find out about the release clause that may or may not be in his contract why not just type "I don't know"? Less words and saves us looking through lots of unrelated posts and still getting no answers. Was it your intention to send people on a merry go round? {Ed002's Note - Why not use the search function or read the posts before bothering the editors - then you wouldn't have to bitch about it and look like a complete jerk?}

27 Nov 2012 12:51:14
Liverpool would be utterly mad to sell Suarez now. 10 reasons why?
1. Never sell your best players
2. Never sell to league rivals
3. Buy first sell after to avoid inflated transfer prices
4. Prolific Strikers are like rare diamonds, depending on who is available, they are more likely to appreciate in value.
5. Sell after a World Cup when values rise.
6. Timing is everything, when the time is right the fans will accept but now is not the time.
7. We have only one striker!
8. We cannot attract players of Suarez calibre without CL so we should hold on.
9. £40m is enough to buy 3 mediocre players, why do it.
10. He is a guinuine unique player that LFC need to reinforce that we are still a major force albeit rebuilding. we cannot become a feeder club.
Beancounter

Yes we know all that thanks! Why are you bringing it to our attention?

We are not selling him so why bother thinking up 10 reasons?

he plays for the liverbird on his chest...simple..he loves liverpool FC...
dont sell your soul...

I really enjoyed the football and formation against wigan and although in patches ive enjoyed the football since i have been alittle disappointed that we havent persisted with the 343. I accept that it may be a case of horses for courses but just prefer the idea that we impose our football on other teams rather than first try to nulify the opposition. Hopefully it will be something we see more of during the season but trust in the long term vision of BR and the owners. Cheers Eds, great insight as always. Sent to Coventry

You aware where does mascherano plays for Barca..went for just 3 mill above allen...
a prolific DM player who is a fear for any midfield in the world..current plays in CB over an year..and excellent over there..
you need anymore out of opsition players??
johnosn plays for LB??
since he isnt playin in his natural position.
y does BR plays him??
let lucas come back and allen starts playing?
simple terms..he is no where near 16 mill + 2 mill signing on fee.

Buying players in january offers very poor value for money unless contracts are due to expire. It is better to loan in for the short term so you can then get better quality for your money in the summer.

MUSHROOM

Mascherano cost Barcelona £22million “ and he's playing CB because he could not replace Busquet. If he is the best holding midfield in the world, why is he playing out of position? Because they can't find a place for him in midfield!

Johnson at left back “ if you know football, you'll know that the full back position is a different kettle of fish because the player patrols the flanks - you try taking on midfield of Arsenal, Chelsea and the mancs without support, and you see it's a totally thankless task - which is why I'm thankful Lucas is back, because he has developed into that position over past 3 seasons “ whereas Allen only came to us 3 months ago! Ed What was the status with defoe last summer?
he was surplus when spurs were looking for adebayor and diamo?
8 mill was the price.
I always rated him. excellent finisher.he was a bargain to replace bellamy with a loan initailly.
he is scoring freely now for spurs.
his finishing abilities are great compared to bent.

YNWA {Ed002's Note - My recollection is that Defoe wanted to be playing and his concern was that at Spurs he was not starting games. If Liverpool had of been interested, could have given him a start, and made an acceptable bid, then I guess something could have be done. But that was not the case. He is also around the 30 mark I guess.}

Age is not actually a problem for us now..coz we dont have money..he is real bargain at the age of 30..
bellemmy did excellent in the second spell.

Ed great site..and pls post this..
Lots of fans criticise the owners on behalf of dempsy transfer saga..
some said loaning out caroll without replacement was awful..
Let me make a point clear...we actaullay escaped when west ham interested in buying caroll for 18 mill.
there was absolute no use of him in our squad.
if we did not loaned him..we would have sell him under 10 mill next summer..
if we sell downing for the highest price on the last day of transfer window withut any replacement I would be happy.coz he like caroll dont contribute anything..

Suarez going, going, £40m gone!
He has to think of his future. Chelsea, Real Madrid and Man City are waving there cheque books. Could he resist Barcelona?
FSG need to step up or step out.

Boston Red

He would ideally go to Barcelona where he would form a front 3 of Villa Suarez Messi ......... Scary

The Spanish clubs are great clubs. If the price suits LFC & Suarez wants to go, then that's life. What 'FSG needs to step up or step out' has to do with it is beyond me? Or do you mean they should be buying £40m players to keep him happy? Personally I would of thought player happiness comes from the city, the level of support & being part of something worth fighting for. Not the case with all players I admit but once my team is full of 'those' type of players is the day I cease caring.

dd

FSG have been badly advised.

It is not necessary to pay £40M for a player.

Some great players have been bought for £10 million.

Some not so good ones for much more.

If Suarez wants to go - let him go. No-one is bigger than the club.

Hi Good day Eds,

I am from Cape Town, South Africa and I have no inside info or a friend of a friend who saw some strange footballer at the airport (a case of mistaken identity and/or wishful thinking).

Just want to thank you for a great site.

Tom Werner said that there will be monies available and the fans will be happy; on the other hand Rodgers said there will be no major signings/movement in January.
Are the two compatible?

Any interest in signing Raul Marcelo Bobadilla?

On a side note: Is a possible to list at the top of the page the anount of rumours each player has in or out?
Like if two people on the site say we (Liverpool) will sign Huntelaar then Huntelaar gets two ticks?

Thank you once again. {Ed002's Note - (1) I would not read too much in to what Werner and Rodgers have said. I expect a couple of arrivals in January. (2) There is no known interest from Liverpool in Bobadilla. (3) We have no way nor time to do that easily.}

Ed part from a front man what positions do u expect midfield,defender or a winger thanks {Ed002's Note - A wide player.}

Keep reading that we should get behind the owners and how good they are. Well I have a question ( one i asked quite a while ago, one which not one fan gave a straight answer too ) if Rafa hadn't brought to our attention what was going on behind the scenes with the other two yank clowns, would you have been defending them against any fan criticism? Remember when answering this question you only had the same amount of information about Hicks and Gillett as you do about the current owners! And please, if you are not going to answer a straight question with a straight answer then don't answer the above question asked.

Waro

It was well documented at the time that debt was being burdened upon the club. That knowledge was in the public domain.

I think the difference is that Henry and Co have been forthcoming with their ideas, have listened to fan input and not made wild promises. Also please don't use offensive terms such as Yank to describe an American, let's keep our respect for other nations please.

Nevada

For me it didn't need Rafa to bring anything about Hicks and Gillett to my attention. I knew from the off that they had leveraged the purchase of the club against the ongoing income costing the club huge interest payments on an annual basis. The ongoing saga in the media regarding the multiple refinancing of the debt ultimately causing RBS to demand the money back and forcing the sale of a club then on the brink of administration. Had we not been in the CL the club would have gone to the wall sooner and harder. This is why it was best that new owners were found.

FSG bought the club without putting the debt on the club, then paid off a vast sum of our existing debt, invested in the playing staff, set about continuing to increase off field revenue, planned a sustainable stadium upgrade with money they actually have and/or can get hold of, and on top of this continue to pick up the tab for the clubs financial shortfall on a yearly basis. They have not done everything right by their own admission but I for one support them because of all the reasons I have listed above.
I understand your and other fans suspicion but fans who keep abusing them and perpetuating a negative feeling towards them must understand firstly what the owners are doing and secondly that these fans are actively destabilising the club they claim to love.

On a side note your use of the term 'yonk clowns' is unnecessary at best and makes it a little more difficult to take your wider point as seriously as if you had chosen a different way to express yourself.

Simon

That's of course if you believe anything Benitez said - the previous owners gave him money when he wanted, and when his signings failed - being Benitez, he had to blame someone for his own mistakes.

People lookin for anytin now to give out about the owners. Sad really

I'd personally defend any Liverpool employee unless they gave good reason not to. FSG have not given any reason to doubt them yet bar a couple of transfer errors and PR gaffs.

cozinoz

Still knowbody giving a straight and simple answer. Simon were you an accountant or privvy to inside information at the time of Hicks and Gilletts tenure at the club? Most fans do not understand the logistics of leverage buyouts and venture capitalists motives, and why should they, they just want to see there club do well. Rafa may have had his own agenda exposing the owners at the time I don't know, but the point I am trying to get across to the majority of pro FSG posters is that you don't know there true intentions for the club long term so don't come on here telling genuine fans who maybe thinking once bitten etc that they are not true supporters because they are daring to question the owners intentions, you can blindly follow FSG if you like, that's your perogitive but don't accuse people who are unsure of the owners intentions of not being loyal to the club. I posted the other night about people criricising Stevie being out of order and gave them some of there own cat calling back saying not true reds and never will be, that wasn't what I thought I was just playing them at there own game, I am not arrogant enough to level that sort of rhetoric at people, I am of the opinion that wether I agree or not your entitled to your opinion. Pity a few more on here didn't think the same way.

Waro

I agree i think Rafa highlighted early that the funds for transfers were drying up remember he wanted Alves also he recently said he wanted Hazard at 19.. I think had we have a yes man dare i say like Rodgers it could have been worse

Waro - either you put up the money to buy the club or STHU!

Singred

Waro - I'll say it again. At the time H&G were publicly dumping debt on the club. FSG are currently covering a loss of 50m a year by LFC. What is there to argue about?

Nameless poster, say what again? Who are ye? Bit hard to take in your pearls of wisdom not knowing what you have said before.

Waro

Waro, I totally agree that most fans don't get the in and outs of the purchase of the club by Hicks and Gillett but thats why i posted it so people can get at least some information to help their opinion. Its really important to understand that to understand why H&G were bad and FSG are good. Trying to give a simple answer to a complex situation is difficult but to answer your post I support these owners because everything they are doing is to put the club on a sound financial footing unlike H&G who put the club very much at risk.
To answer your point about intentions, just assume for a moment that FSG are the worst sort of profiteering investor. To get a significant profit out of the club when they sell, the club would need to have a demonstrable recent history of on field success together with a history of accounts that show the club to be highly profitable with good income from all aspects of the business. Both of these things will deliver what we as fans want - a good team winning games with scope for continued investment in the team. If FSG don't achieve that they won't make profit and they won't sell (unless the death threats etc make them think losing a bunch of cash is worth it to get the hell out then we could have a much worse set of owners.)
My questions to all the fans who are vocal in lack of support to FSG and BR is
1 does a section of fans openly wanting change at a club lead to a club who are more or less united?
2. Does a less united club lead to a more or less successful club?
It's fine to have an opinion but my argument is will it help the club perform better if you keep shouting it out?

Simon

Waro - what I said before & then said... I'll say it again is exactly the same as what I said again.

At the end of the day in order for Fsg to be succesful then Liverpool need to be as well, on and of the field. Am i ecstatic about Fsg making a huge profit out of Liverpool? No but at least they put up their own money unlike the Man Utd owners. I think its good for fans to question Fsg's motives and enquire into whats happening at our club, because it is our club long before and long after Fsg leave.

The Irish Rover

Question? Sure, Enquire? Absolutely. Threaten? Never. The fans were called to power because those in charge were destroying the club through high risk incompetence. FSG are not. While we may not enjoy the perceived austerity, it will help position us to become giants of the moderm game.

With January transfer window approaching and the recent comments by both Tom Werner and Brenden Rogers slightly conflicting each other, they may actually be same. January isn't exactly the best time for recruiting unless your number 1 target does come available and available at the right cost. While Werner spoke about investing he probably means it but if Brenden Rodgers feels he's not gonna get his man he very may well decide to hold out to the summer.
Obviously a striker is needed, but if we can't get who were after in January I'd happily take Bent on loan. We need other areas of strengthing of course but again why waste money if it's not in our long term plans and budget. As a club we have squandered vast amounts of money over the years some of it bordering on criminality.
Some supporters may be happy with the progress that we have made in terms of what the manager is trying to do some supporters aren't. But I'm guessing when Rodgers took the job he was given a clear mandate on recruitment of players like youth, extensive scouting to find quality players and not to waste money. And in return I'm guessing Rodgers spelt how his vision of how football should be played how he will implement from the top to the U 8's or whatever and to be left alone to do this. The finances were obviously discussed and it seems he's under no illusion as to were Liverpool are placed and that's from 5th to 10th not 1st to 4th so you have cut your cloth accordingly. Cavani? Pato? etc etc forget about it
But there is a future and both the owners and management seem to working to it. It won't be this season and it won't be next season it may not even be the season after that. Little steps along the way, fixiing the books, building a efficent title challenging team, stadium extension it was never gonna happen over night. I'd say Liverpool won't make 20 million pound signing within the next 3 years. We are in the 10-15 bracket at best
We had owners in the last 20 years who let the club slide and board room management that was digraceful. Now we have owners with a vision and a manager who has unbelivable believe in himself and are trying something different fresh new and exciting. Rodgers probably has the safest job in the premiership. He's not going anywhere because of their vision. They didn't decide this on their own they had advice, maybe David Dein someone told me they asked advice from Johan Cruyff too but I don't know. Remember the famous Ferguson out banner in Old Trafford!
So I'm not expecting anything big to happen in January and I think it may even dip a little in terms of what we're doing and it'll be another 2 seasons before we start getting to where we all want them to be. I believe in the project, their clever people and if it's their intention to sell Liverpool for a profit well they'll have to get us in champions league with a 60,000 capacity stadium. Again that won't happen overnight...

Owen

Well said. Some posters seem to think it is in FSGs interest to avoid success

cozinoz

The only thing wrong with a 2/3 yr projects. Footballers have a short career and our Star players will want success quicker than that or they'll be off. I believe that were only 2/3 players away from challenging and not 2/3 years. Spurs,Arsenal,Everton and WBA not one of them is what you would call a really good side. I think if luck went our way for once in the transfer window and we got just the right 2 or maybe 3 players.
4th place is well up for grabs. Funny old game football it can all change quite quickly. To many supporters pontificate as though it's an exact science? It isn't.

Tom Werner has said we need to balance the books and players have to be sold to bring in new ones. He also said they need to reduce the wage bill futher. This to me means we will sell any player at the right price and bring in lesser quality on reduced wages. He also said they will now find it very hard to spend vast sums of money on individual players after the loss they made from Carroll. Thanks Kenny!

Heard Kenny has escaped to scotland?
pls take downing and caroll with you...
some part time jobs will be enough for them and give us atleast 45 mill back..
so nice of you...

Did he not say 2 weeks ago there will be money available in jan. well if there isnt we might as well forget about pushing on with the squad as thin as it is i was thinking it will be a struggle to get till jan but if were waiting till the summer with the squad as it is r even less we will be lucky to get top 10.Tommy Irish Red

Does make you wonder about how things are been run at the club, the manager saying one thing owners saying another this is the type of messing that messed up our summer transfers .... Looks like them communication problems aren't fixed {Ed002's Note - Or the fans are reading too much in to it.}

The trouble is, you fans fans demanding answers and for money to be made available. FSG come out and say that money will be spent, we will be happy etc.
Anyone we then enquire about will have an inflated fee.
Manager comes out and then says we have to balance books, limited signings etc to try and counteract this potential rise in fee and then the fans are up in arms about why they were lied to and that FSG don't have a clue.

How about we just wait and see what happens and judge the transfer window at the end - not before it hasn't even started!!

Looking on the brightside

After reading the comments from the doom mongers on this site I think we need to put things in perspective

While we know everything is not right at Liverpool at the moment and the transfer dealings in the summer was a complete farce but when BR was given the managers job we were told it was going to be a long term project. I know its not ideal but its where the club is due to the finance situation and the way the club was run by the previous owners but we have reasons to be optomistic

1. The youth coming through ie Suso, Sterling, kelly, flannagan, robinson, Wisdom etc and if anyone watches the u21s you'll know theres players like morgan, sama, coady yetsil and ngoo to come through as well

2. We ARE playing better football even if we are still wasteful

3. Lucas to come back and make our midfield stronger and allow gerrard and Allen to play further forward

4. I think the fact that the summers transfer window was a mess means the management won't allow it happen again and we should see some new signnings in January and the summer but the problem is the fans expect and demand we spent £100million plus on the squad when no one knows how much money the cliub has!!
Yes we need strengthening in the team but we also need CL football and we need to get back into the top 4

While I'm not totally happy with where the club is we have to have faith in the manager and the owners to get some stability back into our great club. If we don't we are just going to fall further and further behind City, Man U, Chelsea even Arsenal and Spurs

Its time to get behind the team and stop moaning

It could always be worse we could be Everton fans!!! lol

RedDan

There are doom mongers

and then there are the over optimistic merchants

Neither are good

Good post totally agree , shame half the dimwits on here wont see it like that !!..............andy.

100% agree with RedDan

Puzzled

Well I'm niether a doom monger or a over optimistic merchant but a realist. The facts are that once we missed out on the top 4, 3 or 4 seasons back things were on the decline. Sad but true. Hard to take but true. Not nice to admit but true. Now the thing is how do we break back into the top 4 without having the money of a sheikh? And the longer we stay out of the top 4 the harder it will be to get back in. I think there is a great chance for us this season with the likes of Chelski, Arsenal and Spuds not doing the business hence West brom being were they are. If we can turn the draws into wins which with a bit of luck we will be able to do then...well who knows? If it doesn't happen this season then like Ed002 says were going to have to "suck it up" for a few more years of pain. But without big investment we can only wait for the young players to fully develop into the players they look like becoming. But if I have to wait another 10 seasons for it to happen then so be it. For me there is no land beyond the Kop.

Danny.

Well said red dan im sure br and the owners want us to improve as much as the rest of us and maybe send the doom merchants into their holes they came out of.Tommy Irish Red

Ed great site and excellent work.

After 13 games BR is in exact same position as roy hodgson was...
so when, where and what to start??
Peopl say we are re building...
some say we have balanced books.
other say we have maintained academy...
None said, Success is an important part of any club...
swansea, stoke, fulham, sunderland...all are balancing their books really well.
whats the difference then??
chelsea and UTD win trophies...the others just balance the books...

Can anyone here or the ed stand tall and said how much more years we need to compete?
2, 3, 5 years?...100 mill??
some of the games we played and draw actually does not have any relevance to transfer.
we were poor..even if we had higuain we would have been poor...
fernando torres was the sole striker for liverpool for almost 3 seasons...
none complained, no balancing, no problem..
coz we were playing excellent...

If chelsea would have us as Fans, they would have never sacked Anchelotti,,
coz we are so generous that all our stupidity are defended.
15 mil for allen,
11 mill for borini..
we have just blowed 26 mill..

With pride in ma heart and love I still say I love ma club more than anything.
But I also face the reality.

YNWA

We won more trophies than United last season and you can't expect immediate success. You can't blame FSG or Rodgers for what has gone on before, if you're looking at the lack of recent league titles. It's a big job for them and we may have to face upto the fact that we might never be able to challenge the likes of United again.
I'm more hopeful than I have been for a long time, though.
Rigsby.

More trophies??
you mean carling cup??
the total revenue UTD recieved last year
EPl position, CL revenue is double we have recieved in past 3 seasons...
what are you talking about..
Immediate success..
Tell me what happened in 2009 that we went for rebuilding?
a 7th place??
all the players who played in 2009 were exact same in 2008...which re building are we talking about?
gerrard was 28, now 30
riera was 27
babel was 25
torres was 26
bennayoon was 29
alonso was 27.
lucas was 23
mascherano 27
johnson still playing
agger still playing
skertel still playing
reina still plating.

where did we had an aeging squad?
and what did we gained..
yes we sold players who were in high wages. but the reality was those players actually had nothing to do with our game.
nabil elzhar, ngog, or andry veronin was not first choice player any point...

people say we should give time and chance to KK and now BR.

Y we never gaved a second chance to Rafa??

What you think if arsenal finish outside top 4..would they sack Arsene wenger?

Please answer this question??

I don't know what you're on about, mate, and I'm not too concerned about Wenger or Rafa.
I'm just saying other clubs are in better shape than us, currently, due to years of mismanagement and we should manage our expectations. FSG and Rodgers are trying to address this, they will make mistakes and it won't happen overnight, if it ever happens.
The sooner people realise this the better.
Rigsby.

Rafa was a good tactician but a poor manager. He refused to sign a contract until he was given full control of transfers then used that control to sign bad players on very high wages. He had very public fall out with the owners of the club, which you cannot blame h and g for because they gave him money nearly every year until the last, he also did the same at inter and Valencia.

He gave us two trophies and revamped our youth system and for that we will always be grateful but he had his chance and got progressively worse each season both on and off the pitch.

Nevada

Poor manager??
he wanted control to mi use the funds and there by spoiling his own name?
what are you talking about?
he has never spend 35 mill on a player in his entire life anywhere who actually became a rubbish?
rafas 2 years total combined transfer would be equal to caroll+ downing + henderson
some of his transfer were poor..
most them were free or under 5 mill
elzhar, ngog, veronin morientes
his record signing was torres 20.5 mill...
its his kids that we are using now...
he was feared and respected all over the europe as a manager..

Rafa when in charge of LFC under the two previous owners had to balance the books every transfer window and by this I mean subsidise the bank charges by selling our players and bringing in players on the cheep or free transfers so we have been cutting our cloth long before FSG came and bought us I am not and never will slag BR off or King Kenny or Rafa they all did their very best for our club and I wouldnt slag our owners FSG off they are trying to finish a project statrted before they came under the other owners H&G but there reasons were nothing like what FSG are trying to achieve if we have to go back a few steps to go forward then so be it sucsess is built over a period of time not in five minutes reds we are all frustrated but we are not in a financial position to change the situation at present and I must point out in my opinion I have never agreed with players earning 100k to 200k per week never mind what team they play for I think it is wrong and in our case (LFC ) I am pleased the owners are trying to bring down the wage bill so in short I fully support the owners in all they do which I am sure will lead to future sucsess

"if we sell a Liverpool jersey to a supporter in Jakarta, we keep 100% of that" - Sam Kennedy President of Fenway Splrts Management

Why would he say this if its not true Ed?

Source - Bloomberg BusinessWeek

"Liverpools games with Manchester United draw an estimated 500 million global television audience by contrast to only 16 million people per game in the World Series"..."Red Sox Nation can only expose a sponsor to six states, Liverpool can help expand FSG's corporate relationships worldwide and can act as a global amplifier"

Are we mainly being used Ed or do FSG want to make LFC succesful?

This isn't an arguementative post, just wanted your point of view?

Really dnt want another hicks and gillet-esque case

Ynwa

Source - Bloomberg BusinessWeek {Ed002's Note - The example you have quoted was a bad one used by Kennedy when drawing an analogy to US sport franchises and this was discussed at some length at the time. I have explained where the money from shirt sales goes. The other words were simply gung-ho stuff in front of the press - it by no means implies anything more than FSG wanting to exploit brands as best it can, and reasonably so. I would hardly say Liverpool is being "used" in anything like a bad way. Of course FSG wants the club to be successful.}

I can buy a Liverpool shirt here in Thailand and Fenway will not get one cent of it. The same for Jakarta. BS abounds.

Red Siam

27 Nov 2012 12:07:10
Surely Warrior make the money on shirt sales?! {Ed002's Note - They do. The money from shirt sales goes to the manufacturer, the distributor and the retailer, who can make extra adding numbers and names to the shirts. If the club are the retailer (club shop, club website etc.) then they get the retailers cut. The manufacturer (Warrior in this case) pay the club an amount each year which allows them a license to manufacture and sell the shirts using the correct logos etc.. That is how they justify the money given to the club. So if you walk in to a high street store and buy a Liverpool shirt - nothing goes to the club. There are a few clubs that have negotiated different deals with manufacturers (Real Madrid with Adidas and Barcelona with Nike are the two obvious examples) based upon joint reselling ventures. So the income from shirts is fixed to the £xM or whatever Warrior, Adidas, Nike etc. pay the club plus a small amount for reselling through the club retail outlets (shop, web).}

am tired of too many persons having a go at fsg for not spending money when they are doing a fantastic job of trying to put our crumbling finances in order

Yup, I second that. Cheers for clearing our debt, buying the club & allowing some financial manouvre in the transfer market. Thanks also for putting in place busines business models that will allow maximum revenue from our vast fanbase (Man Utd were miles ahead of us on that) So here's to a future of self financing without cosying up to a sugar daddy!

dd

You have to be joking , they knew what they were buying there no different than h+g , some of the posts on here would sicken you to read .
1 appointment of comoili (spelling sorry :)
2 the sacking of our legend kd when reaching the fans cup final and winning one
3 the treatment a fan received when posting rumours
4 not buying the players in the summer that there new manager wanted making him look like a fool
5 players being linked with us now wouldn't even be looked at during h+g time and that's saying something.
6 There promise of getting the best young talent at any cost went out the window (Dempsey) to name just one
BR is the man and will do good but the only reason no one else took it was fsg were not gonna spend big which is fine if we were doing ok but we aren't.
Never forget who we are we are LFC second place was never accepted at our club and why should we accept it now.
BR back him or sack him fgs or get out yourself.
I would preferably like fgs to go myself .
On YouTube there's a good video of Liverpool fans shaking H+G hands as then they thought they were our saviors just like now.
Eam

Eam ,

You cannot blame the owners for not wanting to pay over the odds for Dempsey, they have been justified on that to a point since he's not done much for spurs. I'm glad that the owners aren't being held to ransom anymore.

Not listening to fans? They hired Kenny because of fans?

They can't win can they?they spend 35m on Carroll, 20m on downing 15m on Henderson and posters like yourself called them stupid, now they won't be held to ransom and you call them charlatans. If they really were just interested in making money then why let Kenny spend the Torres /Babel money? Why not just siphon it off. The answer is because they are interested in making the club successful, and therefore profitable.

Debt is not being loaded onto the club as it was with H&G. FSG are not doing that...why is that so difficult to understand?

Ed2 do you think henry and Tom will be regreting entering in football bussiness. Just saw some old interviews saying they were surprised how much money needed to run football club in England compare to American soccer. They even had a dig at chelsea and city spending and want epl to have their on ffp rules in order to block teams like city and chelsea spending beyond their means. Do you realy think FA are going to listen to them. {Ed002's Note - I have no doubts at all that they regret it. It is clear that they were not expecting sustained costs to be so high and they were certainly not expecting the problems that they had at the beginning of September. The purpose of the EPL introducing their own FFPR rules would not be to stop Manchester City and Chelsea spending what they wish explicitly, but to try and avoid another "Portsmouth" type situation. Plans have been discussed for some years on how to do this and some have already been implemented - transfer fees being paid within the season of the transfer, fitness tests for owners (although it is hard to say if they have been effective) etc..}

Ed002 you think that FSG possibly regret coming in to Football management now and i agree i dont think they had any knowledge of the costs involved... but anyway... Please dont snap but now that they are regretting it do you think a resonable offer for the club would be accepted if one was made.... in saying that i know that money isnt out there but do you think they could be at that stage... Seems both us and red sox need a boost and they dont have the funds to boost both {Ed002's Note - I answered the first part last night in more detail, but sure, they will be concerned at the ongoing costs of ownership amongst other things. However, it is not a case of a reasonable offer being made or accepted. The valuation of the club via floatation was established a few months ago and, I am told, that pretty much confirmed the Deloittes valuation. As far as I am aware they are not actively seeking a sale of the business at this time.}

Right, basically there is no denying that Suarez is a top quality player, one of the best in the world without doubt! But, if we were to receive an offer of around 40m-50m would you take it? Personally I love Suarez, wouldn't want to see the chap leave, but with 40-50m added to the transfer budget imagine who we could get! Suarez is 1 man, 1 man does not make a team and with that money and maybe approx. 20-30m in the summer from the owners imagine how much we could improve, thats a minimum of 60m or max of 80m to spend on a squad after selling 1 player! If spent properly we can buy a good striker (Damaio? Higuain? Llorente?) which would take 20m out, leaving enough for 3-4 quality players added to the squad! Must say it wouldn't hurt! But that's if worse comes to wear! Personally I'd like to keep Suarez, bring in someone like Damaio, Higuain or Llorente in January and push for top 4, and then use that commercial revenue to bring in 3-4 quality signings!

Basically, while I respect the owners, I think they realise that we need a striker in January, Werner says we are to be pleased with our forthcoming January business, Rodgers plays it down in case of a potential deal falling through. All I know is I'm excited for January.

Bit of a ramble, but look, sure we need to keep all options open. Whats your opinions Eds? Would ye keep or sell Suarez for that money?

Cheers,

Irish Redman

We said that about the Torres money. 50 or 80 million in cash is no guarantee we will get 50 or 80 million worth of quality!
If we want to be a top team we cannot sell our top players.
Daniel YNWA

If that money goes to a class manager then alright otherwise rodgers would probably throw it on sturridge, graham and a couple other chelsea or swansea academy reject ..

Absolute nuts..
u get 50 mill from suarez...
who will come to us??
higuain, benzema, diamo?
just reply y??
we are in the mid table...who wants to come to us??
money sometimes cannot get you the best players...
torres went to chelsea not for money..but for success and trophies..
he could have got double the wage at city..
he went to chelsea...
even the minor kids are now dreaming of playing for chelsea...
one man does not make a team?
ed..give this person 50 mill..an dlet him show higuain and diamo in red shirt..

Dont be silly we can always get another downing carroll n henderson for that but you wont get another suarez

Fort 40M we could get two stewey downings

Would that equal one suarez

27 Nov 2012 00:50:15
eds, which players do you expect liverpool to sign or try to sign in jan please? {Ed002's Note - Please read the posts - my view on where the interest is has been stated plenty of times.}

27 Nov 2012 00:42:12
Ed2 mate can you clear for me few things mate

1) Why did FSG buy liverpool when they didn't know anything about club or even knew what loverpool is

2) Why FSG risked their investment knowing nothing about club or football its very surprising mate when they sayed the didn't know what offside means in footy or penalties until with cardiff

Now mate why would FSG risk their investment in a firm where they have Zero knoledge or massive lack of experience mate

{Ed002's Note - It is an investment and their business is an investment vehicle. The price was low considering the valuation of the club and they knew opportunities for growth existed with further investment.}
_______________________________________

I just found this on search box.

Ed2 your saying they are trying to invest little and when it works will make a lot of money

{Ed002's Note - I have no idea how you have interpreted what I said in that way. What I said then still stands in answer to the questions asked. The price of the business was low when the bought it - I assume that you are not questioning that? They knew that opportunities for growth existed when they invested further - again, that is pretty clear and I said nothing about investing little etc.. Poor Tom Werner gets slated by a poster for saying something he didn't earlier and now, for some reason, you are are looking read between the lines and re-interpret something which is clear and correct.}

When your in business you have to take risks no pain no gain they are business people who are looking to make money not liverpool supporters u have to see it from both sides of the fence most people on here are staunch liverpool supporters so have tunnel vision if u havent got it to spend then dont spend it they know they have to steady the ship before they can start making money and spening it on the players its gonna take time they know that liverpool supporters are probably the most passionate and faithful supportes in the land and thats one of the reasons apart from making some bucks they bought the club

27 Nov 2012 00:23:36
Hi Ed's seriously now...
What do u think is gunna happen in January?
We have werner saying the fans will be happy come the end of the window... An we have Rodgers saying we arnt doing anything big? So what's the plan? {Ed002's Note - I'll stick with what I have said all along.}

27 Nov 2012 00:46:30
Macca mate, you still think these owners are good for us why is tom coming out with 1 thing and brendan saying something else, something aint right with these owners, hope to god we haven't got tom and jerry mark 2

27 Nov 2012 00:39:46
Hi guys/gals/eds,people talk about the owners need to spend money! when they have spent plenty with NO return, being a business man I put myself in their place 100k to dalglish 30k plus to rogers for more rubbish should they do give these people more money for WHAT! who knows what they will buy lts very differcult for the owners a real case of your fuc*** if you do or dont.(godin)

Yh ur rught lets just stick with 1 striker from now on hoping he doesnt get booked or injured and play a bunch of 12 year olds and hope the manager of THEIR choosing gets us CL all because mr comolli the guy THEY hired spent 100 million (75 mill + was by selling liverpool players) on rubbish

At the end of the day the club wont get CL or will struggle to get it and if we did eentually get there it will be hard to stay there and fall off again the next season as top players will leave to ambitious clubs who compete every season

We'll turn into everton at this rate!

I agree bring through players from the academy ONLY if theyre top notch like sterling, wisdom, etc

But if their isnt anyone in the academy whom is potentially champions league quality and then the club HAS to spend

This is Liverpool FC, not cowdenbeath

You must not be a very good businessman if you don't know your k's from your m's!

130K is not a lot of money, Gerrard gets that every week.

Well if that is the end of their spending they may as well sell up as it is not going to get us to the Champions League. Also, they need to take part responsibility for how the money has been spent - they got in Commolli and trusted him with the transfer advice when most the posters on here could have told them to find a better 'expert'.
I still believe they are good for Liverpool FC but seem to have been a little naive early days.

cozinoz

I agree they were a little naive in the early days cozinoz but they have never dealt with this sport before so some mistakes were bound to happen it's a very steep learning curve for new owners.

Anyone else found out on FM13 you can buy Simon Kjear for 4.5 million if you pay 1 mill up front and 3.5 mill over 48 months, Also Isco for 2.5 million up front and 15 million over 48 months.

You DO realise it's a GAME??

No way? Tell BR and see if we can trade Joe Cole for them both

You DO realise it's a GAME?

Please please can we all just stop crying and moaning about our club guys and back what's going on, the owners are doing the best they possibly can they threw money at the club first line around and got badly burned, they now have a manager in place who will build slowly but will get us back into the top 4 in the next 2 seasons, just please know that right now we are not a top 4 team who can afford to spend 30 or 40 million on one player,as much as we would all love that, it's where we are at ! Just support your team true the good and bad, cause the good is not all that far away !

The technique would of worked if they bought good players instead of crap ones and didnt hire ayre, FSG have made some poor, poor decisions and LFC shoukdnt suffer for it {Ed002's Note - FSG did not hire Ian Ayre. If you are so intent on trashing the owners, perhaps a modicum of effort to get the details correct - otherwise it simply becomes yet another embarrassing post.}

My bad ed02 i meant to say comolli...but we can add jen chang to that list now as well

Fans say Rodgers need time I disagree

Rodgers needs money to rebuild or we will never rise again. Fergie in his first 5 years spent lots of money dispite not winning any trophy and has continued his all years as united manager.

Wenger when came in England spent and made Arsenal invicebles since he stoped spending Arsenal have become very average team compare to his heydays.

When Shankly came to liverpool sacked all players and staffs and spent lots of money on new players and staffs even breaking transfer records to rebuild liverpool.

Paisley dispite Shankly setting the foundation still bob spent lots of money in transfer even breaking england records at that time on very young players like kenny Dalglish and rush etc etc.

Kenny when became liverpool manager 1st time spent lots of money and won lots of titles.

Our history is built on spending money without it we wouldn't win 18 league titles, 5 champions league, 15 charity shield, 7 FA cups, 8 carling cups, 3 uefa cup, 3 super cups and 4/5 divistion titles

Barcelona despite having one of the best academy still spend big to win trophys. Guardiola even sayed in media without spending is impossible to win trophys dispite having one of the best academy the world.

IF FSG TRUST IN RODGERS THEN THEY NEED TO BACK HIM OR ELSE THINGS ARE GOING TO GET WORST LOOK AT ARSENAL DESPITE PLAYING IN CHAMPIONS LEAGUE EVERY YEAR THEIR PLAYERS ARE SNAPPED. IT WON'T TAKE TIME BEFORE OUR YOUNG PLAYERS AND STAR PLAYERS BEING SNAPPED.

FSG are spending... U guys just see the small picture... There balancing the books! Benitez almost put us in administration because of the wages he gave avarge players... We still have debt there paying every year 50-80mill... They got rid of the dead wait kuyt maxi bellers Carroll all on huge wages... There still spending money it's just gunna take time to get us out of debt... Have patience

YNWA

27 Nov 2012 02:02:39
You need to check before saying carroll bellamy were in big wages infact since FSG took liverpool they have slashed massive wages neither signed players on big wages infact Suarez was only on 40k per week when he was signed first time for liverpool.

No it isnt 80 million a year...last year it was 50 million in the red because of a scrapped stadium design its around 10 million a year but now that we have over hakf a million a week in wages off the books (and more when downing, cole, etc leave) the club should be in the green...

If suarez got injured at the begenning of the season against west brom we would be in the relegation zone thats putting the clubs future at risk, theyve made so many bad decisions its actually scary

The last thing they want to do is completely lose the fans in january and not buy a couple attacking players

U sell a player because theyre ageing then u have to replace them,

If u buy a dvd player and dont buy any dvds then the dvd player will sit there and get dusty {Ed002's Note - The year before last it was £50M including the cost of the scrapped stadium. Last years accounts, when released, will reflect the purchase of Henderson, Downing, etc..}

So ED002 our books will not be balanced for at least 3 years unless we receive heavy investment??? {Ed002's Note - I don't know what you mean by "heavy investment".}

Rafa did not give players big wages and contracts the club did with the blessing of H&G all Rafa did was ask for the players the manager has nothing to do with contrats and wages

27 Nov 2012 00:06:01
Eds, FSG have got a massive decision to make in the January transfer Market. They either invest and get the fans behind them or don't invest finish mid table and possibly lose Suarez and be worse off...hate to say it but this is what will happen
