Just want to ask if anyone knows what JC said to a sky reporter, I think, after the carling cup.
Cheers
InTheKnow

He asked him if he was the manager and then went on to comment that he should be out of a job since after 'The Wolves Thing' (think there is a video on caughtoffside) Not sure what Wolves thing he was refering to though
kman {Ed001's Note - it was the sexist comments scandal with Andy Gray, the reporter was the one on the other end of it egging them on.}

Well lets face it was anybody expecting Cardiff not to fight to the death... but in history all that matters is the name on the cup. Must say Skrtel and downing player a great game. The only let down was Hendo but what needs to happen is for Kenny to his arm around him and help him regain his confidence, he knows he didn't have the best game but he has an attitude in which he'll correct his wrongs. He young give him time. -McMenemy

Eds, got this joke from one of my jealous blue nose friends, made me laugh though so thought I'd share and show we don't take ourselves to serious.

"Liverpool finally bring home a trophy after 6 years, The Carling Cup! Bit like being single for 6 years and bringing home Susan Boyle"

And yes I am a Liverpool fan.

Andy the red

Is Subo not a babe?

In the sense that Susan has untold riches than i'd gladly take her home. She would open doors for us in the same way the CC cup will for Liverpool. From a nobody to a star after a night out. Where is she? Lol
Now we are back as a champion winning team in the eyes of people all over the world. (I know its not the Prem, but people across the globe will be speaking our name once more as winners)

Taffytel

Very good lol
k-h

Where as the blue noses bring nobody home and have to settle for palmela handerson or rosy palm and her five sisters where as subo give her a shave get the bags ready and away you go lol

I have talked to a few neutral football fans. Liverpool were poor. Accept the fact. Cardiff did well.
Stevie G is a shadow of his former self.
We need attacking, creative mid-fielders. Aquilani gone, Benyaoun gone.
Henderson and Adam are average.
Lucas badly missed.
Take away the rose-coloured specs.
Even so, expect to lift the FA cup.
Dunno about fourth place. Who can tell about football?

One bad game = worst player in history of Liverpool to you. Fool.

BthekingB

What are you talking about first you say how crap our players are and then you how we are guna win the fa cup??
k-h

39 shots, 15 on target, 19+ corners, hardly a poor performance, the days of so called lesser teams rolling over have gone, just celebrate you muppet

I have talked to some fellow supporters. The OP supports poorly. Accept the fact.
His support for Stevie G is a shadow of it's former self.
Time we took off our rose tainted glasses and accept that this guy just isn't one of us. Such a terrible shame too.

ed001 what was your take on yesterday's events and how did you celebrate it? and the other eds as well.
hibsylfc {Ed001's Note - I was just happy to win, it shut up those friends and family I have in Cardiff that had been driving me mad with jokes and pictures from the moment it was known it would be us against them. All bar one haven't spoken to me since, for some strange reason! I didn't really get to celebrate it as I was straight back to editing the sites as soon as it was over and was too shocked by the whines to be able to just savour and enjoy the moment. Still, I am still happy and enjoying the peace from the Cardiff lot! How about you?}

I have been very sick for the last three days and not gone to work but for the match sat up and shouted my head off, and nearly got a heart attack, when we won I hugged all of my family jumped up and down and then went back to being sick.hibsylfc {Ed001's Note - the power of football to heal you!}

27 Feb 2012 21:53:33
Ed you u know the date when Liverpool will be on the open top bus showing off the carling cup. {Ed001's Note - I had no idea one was planned.}

I think that sort of a thing would be a distraction with so much of the season left to play.

Heads down boys...back to work...got an Arse to spank on Saturday!

Did you guys watch the video on youtube where Suarez gets soaked with beers. Lol that was funny. Carroll was probably like forget the trophy, I want the beer! (jk). I still have the feeling of winning the trophy, hopefully another one arrives soon.

Hi all,
Great win, a trophy at last, a cup is a cup and i'm ecstatic. Despite what others may say I think the majority of our players didn't play too badly. We dominated possession and chances and could have had many more goals if we were more clinical.

One other thing that I noticed (and i'm not moaning) is that when we are defending our midfielders are defending very deep (almost a flat back 5 or 6 at times) and we are giving opposition a bit too much time on the ball in midfield. Just wondering if anyone noticed this?

WillLFC

The midfield has been doing it most of the season , they drop off players and let them run at us then let them carry on to our defence

I think so too. Sometimes there is way too much gap in the midfield that the opponents easily get near our D-box, causing us problems. But our defense has been solid, esp with Skrtle and Agger.

Tekneek

Look at the stats - the problem hasn't been that the setup you talk about (deep midfield) giving us defensive problems, it means we can't break at speed when we do regain possession and there is a big hole between central midfield and attack. 3-5-2 would help, but too narrow and congested.

Liverpool director of football Damien Comolli believes the club's triumph in the League Cup and their subsequent qualification for the Europa League will attract top players to Anfield.

The Reds won their first trophy in six years at Wembley on Sunday against Cardiff with a 3-2 penalty shootout victory following a 2-2 draw after extra time.

And the Frenchman, who recruited many of Tottenham's current stars during a spell in London, feels that success is just the start of the project on Merseyside.

"We already know that there are big players who want to join us next summer because they believe in the project," Comolli told Sky Sports.

"Everybody in Europe knows what Liverpool football club are trying to do.

"Obviously the fact that we're back playing in Europe and we've won the trophy, it's all positive things.

"There's a very positive vibe around the club around Europe. A lot players I know are very interested about joining the project because it's a very interesting project."

This is the actual article. He doesn't say "big names players " anywhere. I think he will be referring to youngsters around Europe.

Jonesred

I would've thought the line: "We already know that there are big players who want to join us next summer because they believe in the project"
would suggest "big players", quite simply because the term "big players" was used...
Or maybe reading exactly what was said is reading too far into it?

Yeah i hope eriksen is interested.

LMAO at the reply ^^^. Maybe he means some really tall players are on their way? Do you think he's hinting that Crouchy is on his way back? Nick. {Ed001's Note - or Zigic?}

27 Feb 2012 21:26:02
Tactical change for the weekend, Carroll to play centre back and skrtyl to play up front. Carroll wins every header in his own box and skrtyl is a great finisher so it's a win win ;0)

Moot

But i think against arsenal we'll need andy forward. He should cause some of those arsenal defenders(if they hav any fit) a lot of problems the same way he caused savic problems.

Skrtyl started off his career as a CF so maybe not such a poor idea.

27 Feb 2012 21:12:34
We are crap! Umpteen crap performances, loads of crap players, crap manager, crap owners and just scraped winning a crap cup! Genuinely in disbelief with some of the posters on this site. We have just won a trophy and to me that feels pretty good, how can these people not love the buzz of winning. I wouldn't care if they had completely bossed us and we had pinched it, it really doesn't matter particularly in a cup final.

Remember arsenals last trophy, they were outplayed by united and still won on penalties, bet they were furious about their performance after that. Maybe we should follow that lead and slowly dismantle our team and go another god knows how many years without a trophy.

I for one am going to enjoy the fact we have won something again!

Cheers

Glad to see KK playing Henderson on the right as it is a good place to learn the system and style of play of the team. At moment he is not tactically aware enough to play in the centre as part of a two man central midfield partnership but in two years he will be and that will unfortunately probably coincide with when Gerrard won't be able to play every game.

Only thing I disagree with Kenny about in this regard is he doesn't need to play in every game and in particular the big games. However, yesterday would have done him some good so can some of the fans lay off him and recognise this is part of a longer term plan and that criticising a young player deliberately being played out of position is not going to help his confidence and the team as a whole so have your opinions, slag him off on he but when at the match give him your utmost support

red matt

And as far as potential goes, he has it in bags. I'd rather see a player slowly develop into a great player than to see a flash in the pan type player who kills it for 2 months then goes missing.

Red7.

Great to win!!!
Sill recovering from sunday...
in reference to original post... Didnt Stevie G start by playing on the right too? im sure he says so in his autobiography, calling the position the graveyard shift.. but we all know how good he has turned out to be! So lets be paitent with Jordan it is work in progress.
Well done to KK and the lads

Was sick in bed today and watched liverpool videos on youtube. There are a few featuring Lucas. You guys that are slating Henderson and Carroll should watch these videos and then have a look at the comments posted therein two or three years ago. Patience is a virtue.

Was watching the mini-mini derby the other day and, amongst some good performances from the red's U18 crew, the stand out one for me was from young Yalany Baio. He gave a very calm and controlled demonstration of defensive midfield play that belied his tender years. Still early days of course, but certainly appears to offer great potential for the future.

I'm surprised that more has not been made of Carroll's challenge on Miller close to the end of normal time yesterday which prevented an almost certain goal and without which we'd all be crying into our beer. He may have been bought to score goals but in that one moment he made a huge contribution to winning our first trophy in six years. Well done Andy now go and terrorise the Arsenal defence at the weekend.

If only he chased loose balls in our box with as much commitment.

27 Feb 2012 19:41:40
hi Eds & Reds

1st time ive been on here the day after we have won a trophy...surely these are not fans critisising the team for yesterdays perfomance?
The manager says about giving every team respect & i think the team shown cardiff the respect they deserved
We the fans should also do the same & not expect teams,no matter what division they play in to simply roll over for us
Matt

27 Feb 2012 19:26:29
Come on fellow reds,we've just won our first pot in six years, stop slating the players for yesterday's performance, we've played better this season and lost, it's all about winning in the final, and that's what we have done, the way some players get slated, I wonder if some of you would prefer the players we had playing for us a year ago, such as poulson, jovanavic, ngog.weve come a long way in a year, with more investment in the summer, and youth players improving and current players settling in better after their first season, things will be better, keep the faith chaps, Rome wasn't built in a day

just been watching some of last nights final on youtube and as i flicked through the clips i came across other videos on the hillsborough disaster which as a 35 year old bloke brought tears to my eyes you see being a liverpool fan is more than loving football its about loving our club team and fellow supporters. god bless all ynwa

I know mate, Hillsborough occurred just before my 10th birthday. I remember seeing it on the BBC and not fully understanding it at the time. Seeing it now as an adult and as a father it brings a lump to the throat and I still get that heavy hearted feeling. Purely awful. JFT96... YNWA...

Just want to say Carra is a class man, he put that Sky nugget in his place, with a touch of cheeky banter ( John Bishop double) and walked away with a medal round his neck class.

KNEE JERK

Carra was just annoyed, because he didn't like the truth. He can kid himself into thinking he can play at the level of a few yrs ago, but the hoofer of the last few yrs, should finish playing for our first team at the end of the season. If he wants to keep playing then move on like Smithy, Emlyn, Thomo, Tosh.did. He's past his best,we can all see that.

What was the wolves thing about?

27 Feb 2012 18:04:14
Why,why, why are idiots still coming on here moaning about this player or that player-we have just won a trophy you mugs- support the club through the bad times and then you should enjoy days like yesterday.

27 Feb 2012 17:54:12
I attended the game yesterday and firstly thought the lfc support was very good. Loved the attitude of Charlie Adam throughout with his continuous acknowledgement of the fans. I said to my brother at half time its the best i have seen Stuart Downing and if he has as good a second half then he's on for MOTM.
Skrtel was as good and was surely a very very close second for motm. Glen Johnson i feel had a fairly good game also providing space to receive passes. The rest of the team looked very nervous, Gerrard was poor and didn't seem to supply that inspirational lift we have seen him do in the past on many occasions. When Kuyt came on he was that man, the inspiration and support for his team mates was second to none. His goal, his celebration, his support for those who missed the spot kicks, consoling them when they returned to the center circle, praising those who scored, he was jumping and punching the air like it was winning the lottery and i think he deserves a hell of alot of praise for his actions. He can be extremely frustrating at times but seeing him yesterday it is plainly obvious LFC is in the lads heart and pumping the blood through his veins! Give the lad a contract to finish his career at the club, even if he comes on and finishes games like yesterday he is an inspiration in my eyes and my level of respect for him now is enormous. If your reading this Dirk then for me you are part of LFC folk law. I unfortunately had to sit next to some on this site on the train home and quietly listen to the absolute nonsense that spew out of their mouths, you make me sick, even winning is not enough for you you have to chastise everyone associated with the club. We have won silverware and its obvious we are heading in the right direction. Cardiff are no mugs and we were never going to turn them over 5-0. I would have loved to have seen us wallop them but lets be realistic. We have played alot better this season i know but we are on the right track, get behind the team and we can have a good final 3rd of the season.

Dirk Kuyt you are the man!

I agree , I spotted his reaction when the penalties were going in.

Ozone

I am so happy for DIrk - he finally got a trophy with LFC - his interview after the match was great - he was so happy and proud. He deserved this moment of glory.

LIVERPRES

Great post. Kuyt has given his best years to this club, mostly playing out of position. He's never moaned or caused a problem, just kept banging in really important goals when we have needed him and been great in the dressing room. He may not be our best player but still a legend in my eyes.

Simon

not a rumour as such but just want to point out that Downing was outstanding yesterday, he gets a lot of criticism on here at times but his performances are on the up.Patience is the key fellow reds! we're getting there!
Paulinho

He stepped up big time on the big stage and at times looked the only composed player on the pitch for LFC.

I was thrilled for the lad.

This is the togetherness of the club. The players, the coaching staff, the manager, the owners. Only thing left is for the fans to get fully behind the club and the players. Brilliant to win a trophy again, the lads look over joyed! A win on Sunday and if we win our game in hand, we'll be a point of fourth. We've got a great chance in the F.A cup. This is the beginning of a quality season for us.

Hello Ed002,
not a rumour, just a thought. It's great that LFC got a Cup yesterday. All LFC fans are over the moon. But to be honest, the team played poor football again. Gerrard, Adam, Downing, Henderson were all average at best. That kind of football won't get us the 4th place and FA Cup. But hope they'll improve and achieve what we all hope for - CL football next season and another win at Wembley final this season.

Downing won the MOTM award, hardly something an average performance merits?

Dan

27 Feb 2012 17:16:20
Great to see Lucas with the squad yesterday, he seemed to be moving about pretty well. Has he started light training yet does anyone know? Whats the possibility of seeing him on the pitch or at least the bench this season?

ChrisE

Agreed. He's doing physio some weights and swimming I believe. They are being extra cautious and don't expect him back training until pre season if things go well.

27 Feb 2012 16:50:41
Saw this earlier:
"We won the game but i am sure kk doesnt know how to play kuyt like rafa knew, he played his best under Rafa"

Obviously this poster knows nothing of football and just wants to try and big up Rafa. Kuyt was wasted on the wing by Rafa, he did ok through his own determination and selflessness but he was and should always have been used in his best position which is as a CF.
And yes he's still a better option as a striker than Carroll as was proved yesterday

Chris in Tamworth

OMG - what a Tool

BBB King

Yes and he is also a better on the right then henderson, so until we buy a right winger thats where kuyt should play mattf

Of course Kuyt (a ball off energy) is going to make a difference in the 100+ min of the game as would any fresh legs and he was rewarded in his loyalty and commitment to the club with his goal and medal but Carroll for me didn't put a foot wrong and to compare them would be unkind -McMenemy

2006 F.A. cup final - Liverpool 3 West Ham 3

Liverpool are losing 2-0 but Cisse and Gerrard score to bring the scores level. West Ham go back in front and only one of the greatest goals scored in cup final history saves us from losing to a team who are nearly relegated that season. Reina goes on to save three penalties in the shoot-out to win the cup for Liverpool.

2005 Champions League Final - Liverpool 3 AC milan 3

Liverpool go into at half time 3-0 down before coming back to level in the second half. The game goes to a penalty shoot out and Dudek saves from Shevchenko to win the game for Liverpool.

2001 Worthington Cup final - Liverpool 1 Birmingham 1

Robbie Fowler scores a cracker before Birmingham equalise in the last minute. The game goes to penalties and Westerveld saves Andy Johnsons spot kick to win the game for Liverpool and contribute to our treble season.

2001 UEFA cup final - Liverpool 5 Alaves 4

An extra time golden goal, own goal by an Alaves player wins the cup for Liverpool and contribute to our treble season.

2001 FA cup final - Arsenal 1 Liverpool 2

Liverpool are totally outplayed by Arsenal who deservedly take the lead only for Owen to grab two late goals in the last few minutes and complete the treble.

________________________________

Our recent history in cup finals show that we have not done things the easy way. But how many people on here moaning about the team and individual performances complained after these results? Did you want these teams to be ripped apart and the players that you didn't like to be sold off? I bet you all celebrated the treble season even though all the victories were by the narrowest of margins.

No-one is saying that this team is the finished article and that we have the best players. But hopefully yesterday we took a very significant step on the road to challenging for major honours again. We do not need a complete overhaul and to sell all the players we signed in the summer. We just need the addition of a couple of quality signings in positions where we are weak.

Just enjoy the victory and stop moaning about the players, after all, we were knocked out in a penalty shoot-out to Northampton at Anfield last season!

JRG

We love doing things the hard way.

Liverpool have now won more cups in the 21st century than any other english team..... FACT

I am tired of reading Facts that are seldom true - FACT

Well it is true you tit, Liverpool 59 trophies, man utd 57 trophies, arsenal 39 trophies, Everton 24 trophies, villa 24 trophies, spurs 24 trophies.

Ozone

1 + 1 = 2 Fact
1 - 1 = 0 Fact

Kind of hard to say those facts aren't true.

I had a utd fan argue with me on this saying the following is he right ?

LIVERPOOL
League 18
Fa Cup 7
Charity Shield 15
European cup 5
Uefa cup 3
Super cup 3
Grand total 59

Utd
League 19
Fa Cup 11
League Cup 4 Charity Shield 19
European Cup 3
European cup winners cup 1
Super Cup 1
World Cup 2

Grand Total 60

Don't forget the Screen Sport Super Cup and the County Championship last season!
DM2012 {Ed001's Note - where are the Liverpool League Cup wins in that list? I notice he counted United's 4 wins but not our wins.}

That's a he'll of a lot of trophies for such a young century.

When comparing records you can't count trophies which are not all inclusive such as charity shield, super cup etc - you should be counting 3 domestic trophies
and main European trophies, therefore
League : LFC 18 MUFC 19
FA CUP : LFC 7(and counting) MUFC 11
League Cup : LFC 8 MUFC 4
European Cup : LFC 5 MUFC 3
UEFA CUP : LFC 3 MUFC 1
TOTAL : LFC 41 MUFC 38
Real History, helps me sleep at night .....

Although the time has gone this was a genuine post from a liverpool fan edd001, Have a look at the number of liverpool trophies and you will see when added up that the 59 liverpool ones includes the 8 league cup and i simply and by accident missed them out when typing the list !
Genuine liverpool fan here and sorry for that mate.

A defence of Andy C two things -
1) He got in the first header for the first equaliser;
2) He was throwing himself into blocks late in the game in his own penalty area.

Also we have to stop making things hard for ourselves. There was one point yesterday when we were setting up another attack from just inside our own area. There were 6 reds in that bit of the pitch (7 with Reina) and 1 Cardiff player. That meant that any Red looking upfield would see 9 blue shirts, 1 green jersey and if his eyesight was any good there were 4 reds in there somewhere. No wonder we have difficulty getting the ball in the back of the net.
There were several occasions, as there has been in many matches, where Carroll is stood in the box with the whole of the opposition back four for company plus three of the midfield on the edge of the area waiting for any ball to come into him. It's no wonder he doesn't get that many headers.
Lawro summed it up the Reds midfielders have to get in the box more to support the strikers; that is why we are drawing so many matches. The two centre backs spend more time in the opposition box than the likes of Adam and Henderson.

Winning yesterday gets a monkey off our back, we are no longer an Arsenal, now we need to support the team and push on.

Get in lfc. Carling cup winers even if it was by the skin of our teeth. I s**t myself when stevie g missed his pen. Anyway commoli has said this cup win might attract big players do you think so eds? It's the smallest cup a prem team can win

In fairness, that was a pretty nice save on Stevie G's penalty; top hand on a high shot with pace, pushed against the bar.

Adam missed his penalty; thankfully Liverpool won or the Adam bashers would be out in full voice.

The Carling Cup might be the smallest cup a Prem team can win, but how could you not be impressed with our owners in post-match interviews. And Mr. Henry's lapel pin, pure class!

27 Feb 2012 15:29:36
By the reaction of lots of posts on here today it seems as though it was an embarrassment beating Cardiff to win the Carling cup - why?

Because a lot of fans feel we should of brushed them aside like we did brighton and are not happy with player performance...I dont know some people are never happy

MJ

All yesterday proved was we need a prolific goalscorer, our build-up play was good only 1 piece of the jigsaw missing for me

27 Feb 2012 15:27:38
Is it true what I have just read - Glen Johnson is the best right back in the premier league and should be Englands Number 1 - you are having a laugh. He is average at best. And by the way get rid of Henderson and Carroll.

I dislike fans like you, henderson has been awesome(apart from one game which was yesterday) and carroll is getting better each week :/

So Carroll and henderson never set wembley alight so we have to fire them as far as most fans are concerned only Skrtel and Downing where the best players for Lfc and even Gerrard did not have a great game...Tell you what mate i will ring Kenny and the owners and get them to fire everyone because some muppet posted his idiotic opinion...Jesus christ

MJ

Lets sack Stevie G since he missed about 6 shots eh? No. Shut up with your stupid moaning. If Glen Johnsons shot was just 1 inch lower you'd be saying he's the best right back in the world. Just like everyone did when he scored the winner against Chelsea. Football fans nowadays judge on their last game. It is effing pathetic!

BthekingB

To be fair, I thought Henderson did his bit yesterday, he covered a lot of ground and assisted in keeping possession.

Ozone

Why would Glen play in goal?

27 Feb 2012 14:55:55
Just an observation about how fortunes can change. We really missed Lucas Leiva against Cardiff. They wouldnt have been able to make such space with him in the midfield. He has made such an improvement and he is now one of the most imprtant members of the squad,he deserves all the plaudits he now gets

We didn't miss him at all, but we probably will on Saturday. Must win game against gooners.

Lucas is not bad but he's not good either!

Its just that Liverpool have no out and out DM since the little argie left.

If we were to bring in a top DM it would show the inadequacies of Lucas.

Yes Lucas has improved but he is still slow, still does not score any goals and still cannot offer any range in his passes. {Ed019's Note - I don't know what you've been watching}

Agree with you Ed, he's passing has really moved up a gear, he's covering ground very quickly and if he adds more goals (who'd bet against him doing that) he'll be some midfielder then !

You MUPPET!! I'd suggest he's faster than your Brain.

So Ed019

You think Lucas is Quick

You think he scores Goals

And you think he sprays the ball like Alonso

LOL - what a person you are! {Ed001's Note - you are the idiot, how many defensive mids score goals? And where did anyone suggest he was Alonso? Or that he was Usain Bolt? There is more to playing football than being quick, hence why Walcott is such a donkey. Though, if you get all your football knowledge from playing FIFA, you probably do think being quick is all that matters. Lucas is a far better player than Mascherano, that is why every transfer window since he joined us we get numerous enquiries as to his availability. He doesn't throw petulant tantrums and get himself sent off and a nice ban to follow it, nor does he refuse to play to force a move out of the club. Lucas just plays football and plays it well, though MOTD watchers will never see what he does, so you will never know how good he really is.}

I'm with you ed001. He clearly has no idea what he's talking about.

BJH YNWA {Ed001's Note - his response was purely offensive personal abuse, with no rebuttal of any of the points raised or sign of any kind of football knowledge. Just a claim that Roy Keane scored goals, which, as anyone with footballing knowledge knows, is irrelevant as Keane was never a defensive midfielder but a box to box one.}

Just for what its worth i thought id throw my twopence in regarding the current state of our beloved club. Firstly how awesome is it to have the feeling of winning trophies return.
I felt it was a very average performance from the redmen yesterday however i feel we bossed possession in the second half and ran out deserved winners in the end. Downing and Skrtel were immense and i think it just goes to show what a bit of confidence does for you regarding downing. Henderson was extremely poor but in his first major final playing out of position i think we should be cutting the lad some slack, he obviously possesses massive talent.
I see some people are being quick to slag carroll off yet again. I think its clear for everyone to see that hes improved vastly over the past month and his confidence is at a stage where it could go either way so i urge all supporters just support the team and the squad regardless of whos playing.
I believe we have superb owners, a god of a manager, decent squad and with a few additions we can be a real force soon enough.

Just need a good run starting with arsenal and 4th can be ours COME ON YOU REDS!!

Thanks for reading

Henderson is a waste of money. He may be young and early to say this but at least start him in a bench. Liverpool is playing with 10 men when he is in a starting line up. He doesn't attack, he doesn't defend, he doesn't create chances, he doesn't on to the ball (to create chances). the only thing he can do is when he's given the ball , return to the one who gave the ball. Thant's it. I don't get it why kenny is playing him before bellamy, kuyt, maxi.

Superfan

Remember Lucas? He had tools like you dismissing him before he had barley touched a ball and now look at him.

Yeah hendo didn't have a blinder yesterday, but neither did Stevie, so you think he's s**t too?

It's actually worse coming on here after a cup final victory! Some of you lot are mental.

davethebutcher

You're living up to your name there!

JRG

Yeh but hendo is a centre mid not a right winger wen he has played central he has played well, he runs his socks off all day long anyways ,110 percent effort everytime ,he will be a star for us in years to come

Is the name Superfan ironic? Yes Henderson didn't have a great game but he was played out of position and he is still learning his trade. He is not the finished article and won't be for a couple of seasons. Patience is a virtue my friend.

Last season for Sunderland Henderson was in the top ten players in the premier league for goal scoring chances created. He also had 6 assists-and I'm sure that would have been more if Sunderland hadn't been playing without a striker for half the season. Afraid you just aren't getting the best out of him for some reason....

I was going to make the same point as davethebutcher about Lucas, but that has been covered.

Kenny can't pick Bellamy every game, because his knees are bad, so Kenny must pick his spots and give him rest. And there are enough comments about Kuyt when Kenny picks him, saying he is too slow, has a bad touch, etc. that I'm sure you're wishing that Kenny give a young guy like Henderson a chance when he does pick Kuyt.

Bottom line is, we're not City, or Chelsea when Abramovich took over; we don't have world class at every position. But I don't want Liverpool to be another City or Chelsea, I want to cheer on the lads in red, and appreciate when a young guy like Lucas grows into an important first team regular.

Give Henderson a chance, and trust the King.

-Red Socks

Henderson was bought because his stats were comparable to Gerrard's who he is seen as a long term replacement for but one thing stats don't measure is heart or bollox, which he has neither . He's like a sh*t Michael Carrick and I don't rate him either

ok fantastic stuff to win but long work ahead we still need to focus on achieving top 4 i think this is more important than winning the fa cup (altho that would be brilliant) and i think there needs to be a nother revamp of the squad for next year which will be much stronger if we hit europe. I think we should let henderson go out on loan hes not good enough for the 1st team and never will be unless he gets lots of 1st team football. Downing, Enrique and adam i think have all been good signings. Carrol im unsure about I think hes a good player but doesnt suit liverpool but time will tell. We def need a new right winger and a striker but i think we need to buy fewer but more quality players this year.

Henderson is getting plenty of first team football, mate. And it's good for him.

Worst players on the park by a country mile yesterday - Henderson and Carroll - combined cost of 50 million quid!

Yet we still managed to win our first cup in years. How strange.

davethebutcher

Ah now be fair Reina let two goals in and on both occasions the ball went between his legs

Do you just always moan at everything? You're just a sad sad person. Yes Henderson under performed but he was out of position and the lad was a bit nervous. Carroll had a good game IMO and is improving. And, we won a cup for christ sake - shut up and celebrate it instead of being a broken record!

Yet we still managed to win our first cup in years. How strange.

davethebutcher

We wouldn't have equalised if it hadn't been for Andy's header

Ah, Davethebutcher! You don't get it. We've been beating teams with 8/9 men all season. Oh yes, I remember them all! Usually starts with " great result yesterday" then followed by " Hendo, Adam,Carroll, Downing etc offered nothing". Which really means the 8/9 players that did offer something must be superhuman or that teams like Citeh, Chelsea, Man Utd, Arsenal are all sh#t! Beats me!

For Rumours page please eds :)

Great result yesterday, although not the performance most fans had hope for...the main thing is we won the trophy.
We now need to use this as a platform and kick on from here. My opinion is 4th place is more important then trophies.....so lets try and achieve 4th.
In the summer, i think we need to bring in a couple of impact players.
I would like to see KK buy a right winger and a goal poacher.
We must not sell any key players.....especially Glen Johnson. Have read several reports that he is leaving in the summer....i think he is the best right back in the league and englands number 1 and it would be a massive mistake if we sold him.

Great win yesterday lads!

9 of the 14 players who played yesterday have never won a trophy of any significance, so how people expected them to play like it was any other game with that level of nerves is beyond me, and some of the ignorance with regards to Cardiff is laughable, some people on here expected them to just roll over just because we are Liverpool FC, but what they fail to realise is this is UK, the country of the underdog.

The first is always the hardest, but once you have the taste of success, you want more.....

27 Feb 2012 12:57:33
First of all, it was a great win yesterday. It's fantastic to see us win a trophy and, although it was the finest of margins against a championship club, a cup final was always going to be a close affair. I'll also admit that Downing had a great game.

That said, I still feel that we have too many passengers in our team. Downing, although he played very well yesterday, is still not up to Liverpool' standard. Same for Adam and Carroll (although Carroll has improved, but to be honest, he couldn't have got much worse) they just don't seem "sharp" enough. What seperates good players from average ones is the ability to make the right decision early. For me, both can be replaced with better players, more suited to our game.

Finally, Henderson (if we didn't know already) is not a right winger! He is much better in the centre, but questions surely have to be asked as to whether he has the potential to do better, or whether he is playing at a level that is beyond him.

All in all, it is fantastic to win something, anything, but I for one am not getting carried away with myself. We still need to improve our league performances and this summer will be very interesting in terms of who stays, who goes and who comes in. Now for the F.A. Cup

Ash

Wot an idiot! downing was man of the match in a final for liverpool but he is not good enough to play for liverpool?! yea, that makes sense

Oh, and henderson was predominantly a right sided player at sunderland. He was moved into the middlle while cattermole served suspensions for 2 red cards. I hate hearing all these clowns go on about how he is not right sided! he wasnt bought as a centre mid, get over it!!

Pennant was MOTM in the Champions League final in 2007 too. One game does not make season you berk! And he is a centre mid! God help him if he prefers to play on the right! And be brave, leave a name.

Ash

So how come when henderson plays for england u-21s in centre mid he bosses the game, huh mr nameless poster?

Ash,

Glad to see despite winning a trophy which you acknowledged (well done you) you still managed to get a bit of player bashing in, and quel suprise its the same players in the firing line, Downing was MOTM yesterday and with good reason, arguably his best game to date, and the second good game in a row if im not mistaken, which will do his confidence the world of good which is clearly what he's been lacking, the ability is there for all to see, but moans and groans from the crowd for every little mistake will drain that from the most self assured of men. Maybe a little support would do him good? Think you could manage that? Carroll - has improved as you rightly say not quite to the state he was at Newcastle but i have seen enough in terms of effort and the odd goal over recent weeks to think he does want to be here and that he is trying, cant ask for anymore, if it works out great, if not c'est la vie, he wouldn't be the first or the last to not make the grade, however while he is here he has my full support. Henderson, yeh he had a poor game, looked nervous and perhaps the occasion got the better of him, but he's young as is Carroll i might add, and they both have the raw materials. I agree don't think he's best suited as a right winger but if that's where he is being asked to play then that's where he plays, would you tell Kenny as a young lad "im not playing there!" - of course you wouldn't, but Stevie wont last forever so lets just hope he picks enough up from him in the time he still has. And finally Charlie "not Liverpool standard" Adam, who has more assists than anyone else in our side this year, no he's not Alonso, but who is and for the same money we paid for Adam? I wonder whether you'd feel the same if he'd slotted the pen into the top corner Instead of kicking the conversion? Its sad that there are so many on here picking apart our players when we've just won our first trophy in 6 years - should we all not just be enjoying the moment? The glass is half full my friend, i think most of us are aware we are not the finished article, i believe DC described it as a "project" well there has certainly been some progress from last year - that is enough for me, a cup win, a good chance in FA cup and a shot at fourth, id have taken that at the start of the season, wouldn't you?

Andy C

Henderson really does run the show at that level.

A mixed bag on here today but one thing hasn't been discussed or mentioned; we were heavy favorites to win yesterday (so much so the odds at the bookies was awful).

If we won (which we did) it was a two bob cup/championship opposition blah blah blah..

If we lost then apparently we would eb laughing stocks; etc..

How much of that got to the players? I mean Dirk has been here since just after the FACUP Final 6 years ago and that's his first trophey.

So whilst I wasn't impressed with some of the players I think we need to understand the amount of pressure they are under.. and please don't quote me their weekly wages thinking that alone means they should be able to cope.

Lets hope this gives the players the experience to lift another cup in a few months.

Thought Hendo was great yesterday. The way he scythed down their player, got a yellow card and won me my bet was awesome.

Still, a win is a win. Well done lads.

just goes to prove carrolls not up to scratch he had so many chances to score from all those corners but could'nt find the net so all the talk about carroll nees crosses bull s**t

Spot on.

Ozone

The crosses have to be of a good quality. Too many of the corners were just floated up with no pace on them giving cardiff the opportunity to crowd him out. If memory serves me right who won the first header for the goal yesterday?

Would help if they were decent crosses -how many that you saw posed any sort of problems? Not saying Carroll looks a world beater at the moment and his positional play in the box was mostly poor yesterday, but he still isn't getting great supply (and when Downing did get a few blinders in no one there - Carroll included)

You've just contradicted yourself mate, in one breath your saying there were no decent crosses but in the next your saying Carroll wasn't on the end of the decent crosses. Make your mind up mr anonymous.

Great win yesterday, the first of many tropies I hope. But lets face it Carroll, Henderson and Downing are just not good enough. This was proved yesterday.

Which game were you watching - downing was everyones man of the match - closely followed by skirtel

but carroll and henderson were poor - agree on that one

Did you know 11 of the last 14 teams to win the League cup haven't won a trophy since?

3 are now in the championship (Birmingham, Leicester & Boro), 1 in league 1 (Sheff Wed) and 2 in the conference (Oxford and Luton). The others are Spurs, Blackburn, Villa, Norwich and Wolves.

Will it be 12 in 15 this time next year?

Just a little stat for you to be all thinking about before you get carried away.

GDS

Ok firstly Hendo and Carroll did not have the best of games but downing was everywhere his touch and his skills where superb he was like a different player plus he got man of the match so that just mean your an idiot

MJ

Sorry but Downing was excellent yesterday, agree Carroll and Henderson were not great, still believe Henderson will come good in time not really sure about Carroll though !!

U clearly didn't watch the game or have ant knowledge of the game what so ever.Downing was man or the match.
Henderson was disappointing.
Thought Carroll was ok.

King Luis

You are real, did you watch a different match to 90000 fans at wembly? Every thing liverpool did yesterday involved Downing, he has pace, he made ground, he kept cardiffs defence on their toes all day long.

Downing had a gr8 game. Not a downing fan, but credit where it is due. Disappointed in hendo though. Why was he on the pitch in the first place? He just slowed down the tempo of the game every time we got in the final third witha back pass.
Indian Buzzer

Downings been poor this season but i thought he played well against cardiff
NZL_red

Downing yesterday played his best game in a Liverpool shirt.

Henderson I agree played a shocker , but he's a young lad lacking confidence and really KK shouldn't be playing him out of position.

Carroll I thought played ok , he's getting around the pitch more and being more of a nuisance.
Still not there yet but going in the right direction.

LAVERS

1. Why did Kuyt look so fresh in comparison to the Cardiff defence?
2.Who played right wing, despite being a central midfielder?
3.Who was MOTM?

Henderson and Carroll where very poor, with latter looking hungover. Downing however played well, and i've been less than positive about his performances.

Downing was one of the best pool players on the pitch yesterday you muppet. And thats coming from his biggest critic. Henderson is played way out of position and Carroll is gradually getting there. How about getting behind the players we have already ynwa

Kop71

For 80 mins downing was are best player with skrtel.

Red Rout

I though Downing was one of Liverpool's best players yesterday mate super cool when taking the pen, Henderson well nerves got to him he couldn't get going, carol did ok, skertl was a rock as usual.

Isn't that great? Carroll's been playing undeniably well for the best part of 2012, but just one mediocre performance draws out the vultures. What has happened to the LFC fans of old who'd support their players through thick and thin? Lord knows I still do! You should give it a try too- you'll find it helps you to understand why it is that we sing You'll Never Walk Alone.

To the person who wrote about 11 clubs in 14 not winning anything since and then asking if it could be 12 from 15 next year. You covered a period of 14 YEARS - come back in 2026 and see how many trophies we've won by then. I only hope that I will be here to laugh at you.

Well done Reds. A well fought out win. I think the first half we created a lot of half chances but in the first 10 minutes of the second half looked shady. I think Cardiff defended really well and credit to them although they didn't seem to threat much until the end which was always bound to happen in a final. I feel like we should have put the game to bed and was expecting a more comfortable win but I am actually happier that the final is memorable rather than just a 2-0 easy win. This will go down in history as a great final and Liverpool are involved. This is more memorable than a walkover final. Congrats reds. Enjoy this moment and lets move on to the FA Cup where we have some unfinished business against Stoke! If we beat them we are back to Wembley in the Semi's!

Also, could someone please tweet Frimpong and ask him if he likes apples....

It was part of the andy grey 'six ism scandal'. The reporter in question was reprimanded for discussing the lines person, (Sian Massey I think her name is) in terms other than her officiating abilities. Grey got sacked, the reporter got his wrist slapped. Nick.

Liverpool's Carling Cup triumph will encourage the interest of top players around Europe looking to join the club in the summer, according to director of football Damien Comolli.

The Reds beat Cardiff in a penalty shoot-out on Sunday to lift their first piece of silverware in six years and guarantee a place in the UEFA Europa League next season.

Comolli believes that success was a crucial step in the "project" at Anfield as the club continues its turnaround following John Henry's takeover in 2010.

And the Reds chief claims Liverpool's ongoing revival under Kenny Dalglish has already caught the eye of several high-profile players from around Europe.

Do us all some favour EDs and find out who these big players are so we can keep the groove going. Thanks

He knows Hazard and his agent very well

It's fascinating that many people are moaning about winning a trophy, on other sites the 'fans' are as guilty as some on here. Someone even criticised the team for winning the last 3 cups on penalties. So?

We won them, ask John Terry and Chelsea how they felt about losing on penalties in the Champions League final, I think you'd be happy to win regardless of how it came about.

I'm proud the most memorable finals of the last 10 years or so have all involved Liverpool, not many others stand out.

Imagine not being happy with winning something, how weird?!

Agger gets more easily injured than a butterfly with sore feet

To be fair to Agger, its not like he injured himself, someone mustev knocked him. Him and Skrtel has been so consistent this season. I hope Coates get games now. Carra too. gosh its so hard to choose.

Agger is for wimps

Agger will always live in my memory as the dude who forearmed Nando in the face and put him on his ar$e. I dont condone violent conduct but for some reason I found that not funny in a cheeky way.

What a day yesterday and for King Kenny to win a trophy in his first season is an amazing achievement. But what heart we have in finals. We never seem to make it easy but i suppose we have got use to it by now as a red. But somehow we get over the line.

I believe that it was the heart and determination that got us there. I love it because it is nice to ram one down the medias throats after all the stick they have gave club.

The first trophy is always the hardest to win. Now we can grow as a club and a force. I thought the whole squad throughout the whole tournament were brilliant. It was toss up between Skrtel and Downing for man of the match. I think skrtel shaded it. But we are seeing the real downing at the moment the last two weeks he has been superb.

Its just great to see Stevie G lift a trophy above his head.

A very happy red.

Wow just about recovered from yesterday! What a game, and fair play to Cardiff, really made the game and were unfortunate in the end.

Well played Stuart Downing, i have been one of his harshest critics this season and it was good to see him playing with confidence, taking people on and sticking in crosses, let's just hope he continues this form in the league.

Hope all you redmen enjoyed the day as much as I did! Fingers crossed for the FA cup.

Thanks blue moon , hope you stay ahead of utd in the prem mate.................lfc

Thanks mate but lets put this luck business to bed, The only luck was in the pens and the fact cardiff never took advantage of us missing our first 2 pens other than that we attacked more, Had more shots, Heaton made more saves than reina and we had more possesion so luck NO mate

With regards to Henderson, he is not being played in his correct position. I feel that he would be best suited to the 'Lucas' role. On that note...please remember before giving Henderson more stick, we all gave Lucas so much grief over a period of 2-3 years and look where he is now.
Henderson needs time and I appreciate that maybe KK should be looking at other players or other formations, but give the lad time. We are Liverpool FC, we dont go about slagging our own off, get behind the lad and maybe just maybe he will show that he is worth it.

I firmly believe Hendo is best when played in central midfield, he looks a little lost when out on the right flank.

RedSG

I still feel like he has nothing to offer. I love the lad and I love his passion but I feel he is more of a work horse than a playmaker, tackler, goalscorer or crosser. I believe he is more like Dirk Kuyt than anyone and he should be praised for how much he runs. He will get there one day I am sure of it

BthekingB

Hey ed wud u like to see hendo play cdm? imo he is a very similar player to lucas.
Indian Buzzer {Ed001's Note - no, central midfield yes, but not defensive midfield, he is no defender.}

If he is not a defensive midfielder then what is he? He never really strikes me as creative player or defense splitting with his passes. He is a workhorse who gives 100% {Ed001's Note - that's exactly what he is, a modern day Ray Houghton, hard work and endeavour can go a long way, but it needs to have flair surrounding it to do so. That is the priority now, to add the flair to the solid base he is providing, he can make the runs to create the space for Suarez types to exploit.}

As i said earlier great to see the top brass clearly enjoying it as much as we did ,just noticed john henry's lapel badge on the aftermatch interview ,brought a lump to my throat ,class act that man .No need to bite when all the pathetic mancs and whoever come on here trying to get a rise ,its another cup in the vast pantheon and a vital step along the way to putting us back up there ,they know we are on the way back and they are bricking it .Everything goes in cycles and it is slowly turning in our favour .Long way to go yet but we can all feel it .Enjoy the moment and just give a wry smile to the pondlife ,we are better than them in every respect and deep down they know it .Justice for the 96 and expose the lies before thatcher dies .YNWA Simmo71

Hi ed, not a rumour, but please post in rumours section.
Does all squad gets a medal after winning the league cup or only the ones who have played at least once in the tournament?

Cheers {Ed002's Note - There are 23 medals - 18 for the squad and 5 for the staff. Liverpool can request more if they wish.}

hai ed..great site..and great result...after 6 years..we have finaly won something..which we deserve..
Ed i have a question..does Henderson has any clause in his agreement..that he should play must if he is fit??...coz..i mean what the hell was he doing yesterday?..common..he does not play wide right...he has to play..central...if u dont have a place..then he should be in benhc...KK wants him to play every match..
downing was aweome...his best performance in a red shirt...
cant believe we missed 2 penalties...
we still miss lucas...no one apart from him can tackle in our team right now......
lets beat arsenal next week...would like to see bellamy, suarez and carrol up front....

ALL THE BEST...YOU WILL NEVER WALK ALONE...

Have to agree that Henderson was the worst player on the park. I do think he is out of position but we cannot keep carrying him like that. Dont think I heard his name mentioned once in the first half! Henderson and Carroll still need to give more. I still feel that Henderson's best role in the team is in the 'Lucas' position and I think he would do a job there until Lucas comes back. Henderson is not particularly created or dynamic, so maybe the holding role is best for him. Dont want to kill the lads spirit as he is only young. 'One for the future' as they say.

27 Feb 2012 08:25:45
A good battling performance yesterday but lets be honest there was only 3 really good performances for us. Srktel - absolute rock at the back and well taken goal, Johnson caused problems all afternoon and scored a good penalty and Downing clearly MOTM and probably his best game in a Liverpool shirt.
On a negative side, Charlie Adam - woeful, what exactly does he give the team? I haven't seen any of his supposed great passing since he signed. Gerrard - bad game.clearly not the same player since his injury just hope he gets his form back and Henderson. I feel sorry for the lad clearly he's not a right sided player and had a bad game yesterday.
Just hope were not to tired physically or emotionally for sat as Arsenal is a massive game, we need to win it to stay in the hunt for 4th and in the summer we clearly need a right sided winger, an attacking midfielder and a "fox in the box" striker.

As for Charlie Adam I will gladly give him a lift to any club that will take him off our hands!!

RedDan

Don't forget Kuyt.

Adam

"Charlie Adam -.. I haven't seen any of his supposed great passing since he signed."

What on earth have you been watching? He's been spreading balls over the field for a very long time for Liverpool now, short and long, the reason he has more assists than any Liverpool Player is because of great passing.

You roast him, but protect Hendo, even though Charlie was twice the player.

Come on mate, surely your joking.

Teez

I love Charlie Adam. He is a great central midfielder and doesn't get the credit he deserves. He keeps the ball and keeps the game moving. Sometimes he might be too extravagant but I'd prefer that to someone who just passes it to Steven Gerrard. I bet if he scored his penalty yesterday you wouldn't be saying this.

BthekingB

Adam gives the ball away too much to be a top class midfielder, but he tries hard, and he'll do for now. When Lucas is back, Adam will be on the bench.

Henderson should be given time. Hopefully he will find something he is good at. Defensive midfielder or right-sided midfielder - he is not

Well done the Red Men! It was nervous stuff at the end though!

Anybody else think Jordan Henderson is not Liverpool quality? I posted a few week ago saying i thought he didn't offer much for a £20m player. The Ed disagreed with my comments, but yesterday at half time Alan Shearer gave exactly the same analysis as i put forward..... Anybody else think we need a better player? Cheers. Chesh1969

Perhaps if he was played in his correct position he could show his true worth. He's a central midfieler. So play him in MIDFIELD!!

I think he needs to improve but he has age on his side. He will learn more and will get better. He needs to show more but remember the goal against bolton early in the season and when he came on as a sub against man u he was the best player on the pitch and nearly scored. Give the lad some time im sure he can only get better

Red raj

Fairweather fans - it was Downing and Carroll who were the weak links last month. Now they both have MOTM performances so it's time to find another target. Hendo didnt have the best game but try backing the lad. SUPPORT YOUR TEAM.

cozinoz

Did you not notice that when he did come into central midfield and the space opened up in front to take a shot on he was like a virgin in a brothel- copped out and went towards the wing- so you cant say he didnt get into that position during the game.

by the way, it was a great penalty from gerrard in my opponent, but the keeper was better that time. he didnt miss it, it was on target, good power. he can control where he shoots but he cant control what the keeper can do. regardless, we still won. i am so happy, i dont need my gf for 2 hours.

2 things.....though we won the cup we played bad( now bad means in the final 3rd of the pitch)..

so tow things came in my mind..sure u pips also might have noised it.

KING K.. IS WASTING SUAREZ N GERRARD....THE ONLY TWO QUALITY PLAYERS WE HAVE.

1..SUAREZ.

THE WAY SUAREZ PLAYS on the BALL HE NEEDS A PARTNER WHO CAN HOLD THE BALL OR MAKE RUNS AROUND HIM ...both ways carroll isnt effective ....y is not maxi (has good sense of space n runs ) or Bellamy (good pace) is partnered with suarez.

2.. S. GERRARD

why the f sg is never in the box...he is always sooo deep...i know he may be likes to play centrally ...n all but WE HAVE THE LOWEST GOALS SCORED IN THE TOP 10 I THINK.....we NEED sg in there

if we want to improve our goals we must have suarez+gerrard+ maxi/ Bellamy ...in the box ....if u can see we build good attacks ..downing + glen J + Enrique are doing good(may b not that good but ok) with sending ball in...but there is no one in the box to do something with it..

Stevie G played deep much of the time because we don't have a fit Lucas. SG brings a bit more to the game than Spearing when there is going to be a more open game. SG's attacking instincts and ability are sacrificed for the good of the team. He needs some shooting practice though!
ND

I know we dont have lucas BUT.....SGs offensive work is more needed right now ..much more than defensive....

by this way if SG DOESNT PLAYS THEN WHO IS GONNA B UR DEFENSIVE SOLUTION?....SUAREZ?

COMMON mate u seem knowledgeable....the problem with this team is not the absence of lucas or the defense **BUT WE R NOT SCORING GOALS........**

thats the f**king reason we have drawn 9 games...

We drew many of those games without Gerrard and some without Suarez.

Hmmm ..yes just to continue the war of words u can say that both sg n suarez were absent ok forget abt the past

we have both of them on pitch now n we should make most of it .

without goals u cant win n without wins u cant get points.....playing one of ur best attacking player so deep or say** sacrificing sg's goals for the defensive stability is madness .

...i dont have problem with it if ...n i said if we had other goal options ....u see two of our best players suarez n sg ....havent played off each other.....f**k with the defense play carroll as a defender lol .....

but we must get sg in the box if we want fa cup or 4th spot or both

Hi All, Just thought i would give my comments on the game. Slated Dowing all season (with just cause!), but credit were due, thought he was arguably our best player today. Beat his man for fun, threw in some wicked crosses and ran till the end..... makes you wonder how and why aint done it all season....but if that restores his confidence for the run in fair enuf! How or why Henderson is anywhere near the first team, other than price tag justification is beyond me...still seems completely overawed by being here, playing him on right midfield is only adding to his confidence problems. Everyone knows I would give Shelvey the chance all day...think he is a far better player already and offers a better attacking threat as well. Nice to see Skyrtel n Agger partnership finally working (though thought that would have been boxed off about two years ago)....looking good though. Thought Carroll as poor oday and far too slow to read and act on the game...looked like didn't want to play. Stevie G wasn't at his best either, but suppose that can be forgiven as he has been there for us in the past many times. Dirk had a great game and could have grabbed mom with his goal, clearance of the line and constant harrassment, not to mention his pen. Charlie Adam been playing well of late, though what has happened to his dead ball prowess? All in all, didn't think we played that well (even Luis wasn't on his top game today...though he tried), but still came away with the win. we have played far better this season (especially at Anfield) and come away with less so fair play. With all the debate about Evra (and eds you didn't post my last comments on that?), have to say, the way the owners reacted and celebrated with Kenny and Suarez, in particular, appeared to indicate he is going nowhere come the seasons end...and rightly so.

Jesus mate you would have sworn we lost by your post. Yeah some of our players werent world beaters today and yeah hendo was a bit s**t (ok a lot s**t) but the lads pulled together and won the game in the end! I say brilliantly done today Liverpool FC!

Canadian Red

Totally agree with you, is Henderson actually a footballer, the mad is terrible.

Quite a few did not play well yesterday. Thank goodness we were playing a championship side! Don't think we would have beaten a top flight side with that performance, to be honest.

But a win's a win! Hopefully we will improve.

Type in Liverpool in the search box and there should be a lot of vids to choose from. Worth a try - not sure if the full match is anywhere there (maybe) - but you'll get lots of highlights and stuff (good documentaries there too).

Good luck, unnamed poster.

Well done lads. Another trophy for Kenny and LFC - thats what it's all about.

The best team won - but respect to Cardiff who battled to the end - Heaton had a great game in goal for them and kept them in it with some quality saves, our old friend the woodwork was trying to stop us too!

Skrtel's non-celebration was the highlight of the game for me, great attitude. Dirk's strike was great - swiped at the first shot, got a 2nd chance and BANG - Falling backwards, off balance, yet struck it with such power and no backlift - superb strike!

We had no one standout performer - Downing & Skrtel were the best two for me (followed by Suarez, who looked threatening, even though he still seems to lack a little sharpness).

But the team stuck together - it's a team game and they all played their part. Well done all.

Big Andy was unlucky with a few efforts and Henderson got in some good, dangerous positions too - admittedly his execution was lacking but he finds space very well.

Lay off, haters!

Cheers Kenny! A good team selection and good use of subs when a change was needed.

1 trophy in the bag - The FA Cup and 4th still to play for. Lets give it our all and hopefully we'll celebrate a great season in May and build on it during the summer.

Qualified for Europe too - that was no sure thing! Nice to have to fall back on.

Rock on!

BJH YNWA.

Great post mate. One of the things I love about football is how everyone can be watching the same game but have different takes. I thought there was a stand out performer - Downing easily my MOTM. I disagree about Suarez - I thought he looked lost and woeful today. And I could not find anything positive about Hendo's performance today. Who cares though, we won and Liverpool FC will forever be the 2012 League Cup champions!

LIVERPRES

Have to say it feels good to be winners after 6 long years. Cardiff is one championship side i pray we will never have to play against again. Took us to the limit.

I think that Suarez must be due another suspension - did you see him laughing when Anthony Gerrard missed his penalty attempt - SHOCKING - of course not - I've said it before - he reacted against Ghana just like EVERY other player that has been involved in a winning penalty-shootout. I've been watching Kenny Miller's effort just before the end and all the experts saying that should have won the match. I think if Johnson's effort had gone in in the second minute the match would have been over in the first half. It won't be long before the near-misses become goals.
Dutchmal

Maybe he was just happy that it won us the cup?

Joshlfc

Yeah, we just won the something, I'd be laughing too, who are you? some body reader if so your sh*t at it.

Give it a rest Dutchmal,

Think you are clutching at straws just a wee bit here. It wouldn't be beyond the realms of reasoning that he might of been happy that he had just won a trophy. If memory serves me correctly all the other players were smiling, no wait they were elated so should we sell the whole squad for their reactions as well and put it down to a PR disaster, roll out public apologies and start agin in the summer. I feel your talents are wasted here, try looking up a career as a detective or a similar role. Although they may well be looking for people with experience don't let that deter you because what you lack in that area you make up for in enthusiasm. Keep us updated on your job hunt.
