I don't wanna be a defeatist but after chelsea loosingtonight i can hear them mancs singing "19 times!" next season.

Goodbye to our record. ."

As much as it pains me to say it, by rights they should have had number 19 a while ago. It was only Abramovich's dirty money flooding into the Chelsea coffers that held them back a few years. I don't know whether i'm sad or happy to see Chelsea self destruct but at least if they win it they'll have done so without buying it.

Only have to look at stephen irelands performances wit man city ta see he is a quality player, he hasnt worked out for villa coz houiller just doesn't like him. I think with the right manager he would be top class, but cudnt see hodgson being that man.

LFC have had a fortnight free of competitive action before the Wolves game , this has to stand the team in better stead for the rest of the season .

However , watch Roy Hodgson bemoan the rest period if things don't go his way , even though he is an advocate of the winter break .

Liverpools been linked with every signle player. . that's y we love the transfer window and the crazy rumours. wolfsburg have dropped the price for dzeko, ed what do u think about him?? also i was on caughtoffside and saw chris brunt from west brom being linked with us?? what do u think ed
{Editor's note - Brunt is having a good season and is joint to with assists along wth Nani atm. Brunt would be a brilliant person to be crossing for Dzeko who is a nightmare to handle during crosses, both good players}

Where's the fun in saying somebody WILL be signing, when you don't know that they are?

i just don't know how people are still getting enjoyment out of this.

Anyone else going crazy waiting for the next game?

Liverpool Rumours
Im a liverpool fan from surrey, know somebody high up in ipswich who claims nobody at the club rates conor wickham that highly. however they know that some people do so they would only accept offers for around 8 million. although judging by how badly he was talking about wickham im not too sure about him anymore, think we will be ok with n'gog, eccleston and n'goo coming through.

surrey! you sure you got your counties right? not disputing the fact you may know someone from ipswich , but its the way you said "im from surrey and a liverpool fan and i know someone high up at ipswich"
to get to SUFFOLK from SURREY and depending what part of surrey you come from you will/ should travel through either greater london, herts, essex and then suffolk or through GR & kent! !

- - theres no need to lie about this subject, its not very important, just thought id share what he told me with everybody. im not going to mention the guy but i have been with him to ipswich and we drive by essex, takes about 2 hours to get to his suffolk house from surrey.

again not disputing the rumour but come on fella two hours from surrey lol i live in herts a junction on the 25 and a lot closer to suffolk and it can take me over two hours mate! !

Ed,

when does the window open, it is new years day.
i'm hoping for a signing early on in January to show our intent. I've seen the Honda rumours have gone quiet (a good sign as we are doing our business behind closed doors these days and not through the press), along with Turan (a favourite with Dalgeish I Believe) - think both of these would Improve our attaching intent no end and would provide the ammunition for Torres to once again become the feared Striker he was previously.
On a seperate note, Adam Johnson, who I wanted us to sign from Boro a few years back would be a massive signing for us if allowed to leave Citeh. . Super talented, early twenties and English with a great sell on value and the potential to be world class.

Any chance on these ED ( or am i dreaming)

timmo. . . . .

{Editor's Note: Honda possibly, my guess is Arda will not be available in January; Johnson would have to be a real outside chance.}

Arda not available even though he wants to come to us as he stated a while back in an interview, surely if we show a bit of ambition and chase him for the right money, we could have a world beater. . . for a decent price

LFC are looking to sign Roman Pavluychenko in Jan but Spurs are trying to offload Crouch instead. Lots of talk down south of either a striker move or a swap of Bentley for Babbel. Watch this space but I reckon there will be transfer activity between Spurs and the Pool.

as someone who works close to many of the london clubs i feel i can give a good honest opinion, pavlyuchenko has no wish what so ever in joining liverpool, he turned the club down in the summer refusing to even speak to liverpool, also harry has no plans what so ever regarding babbel, if there is activity it could be for crouch and it will have to be money on the table? but i have heard nothing regarding crouch! where as roman is trying very hard to get a new contract at spurs, crouch may be the one to go? bentley i believe will also go but probably to a team closer to home, he lives in my town but i have never seen him nor spoken to him but i do know he does not want to move home! so he will travel by car to training and matches at his next club

Ed for a Liverpool suporter you are very pessemistic.People Saying Aguero is on his way Dzeko could be coming. Llorente and Suarez are being lined up and as a Liverpool fan u should say it would be super if they came , but you are like no not going to happen don't thinkso. We all didn't think Meireles would come or even think he'd be close to showing up but he did. Tell you the truth. FSV will fund who ever they think will improve the squad. How do I know because in the Washington post they had Chelsea arsenal utd Liverpool and city and 3 players they would like to buy in the window Liverpool had Dzeko Young and Cahill.

By the end of the window one of Dzeko. Suarez or aguero will be at Liverpool

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
I think he is being realistic rather than pessamistic.
Players like Dzeko and Aguero will have big price tags in the January window and the owners don't want to pay more than the player is worth so the big name signings may have to wait until summer

I can't believe there are people who think it wise to sell Torres. Is it because big brother has finished that body language experts have started watching Liverpol games? No matter how good the player he will still require quality players around him and a manager who will play to his strengths to get the best out of him and supporters who don't have short memories and get behind the player when he is clearly struggling for form and confidence and needs there patience and support. Maybe some people need to factor some of these points into the mix before making rash judgements and driving the best striker in europe into the arms of one of our rivals. Give yourselves a pat on the back.

Rednose: What NESV did with the Red Sox was excellent and I hope that the comparisons are true especially in the ways that they run the business. My point was that we supporters cannot look at the "signing" of baseball players in the same way- especially the finanaces. I too hope that we have a great January, however at the moment I would take anything to give the team, fans, club a lift, maybe even a positive press conference from Roy!

As much as I used to dislike Drogba for his antics (diving, slapping, moaning) and as much as I love Torres as a player; I have to admit that when you compare their work rate you have to admit that Drogba -even if his team is going through a terrible slump- can walk with his head held up high. The guy never stopped running to and away from the opposing goal. Again, I love Torres and if I am to be criticised for this so be it; but tonight Chelsea's striker acted like a professional from minute one to the end and I wish could say the same for Fernando since the beginning of the season. Let's put 2010 behind us and hope for a better 2011.

{Editor's Note: A particularly depressing post for you Macca. We need to see the season out; if you want rid of the manager and everyone agrees with that, the he won't get the pick of the candy store this January.}

Hi Ed, think we have got our wires crossed, i am saying we will not sign any world class players in Jan or until we qualify for the champions league.

With regards Roy, he is staying till the end of the season unless we have a really disaster between now and then.

{Editor's Note: I think that there are still decent options for January - "world class" is subjective and the summer may see some austerity due to the new financial rules.}

Just seen Sergio Aguero in Sapporo - a top restaurant in Liverpool. I was sitting down with my family when I looked over to see him sitting at a table with Maxi Rodriguez and another woman, and child.
As they left (I am a Spanish student), I overheard the woman on the table laughing and telling Aguero 'good luck with the meeting tomorrow'.
Surely this could mean that he is going to meet with Liverpool officials tomorrow to discuss a possible move?

{Editor's Note: This is a great rumour - the only two tiny things against it are: (a) You suggest Maxi Rodrigues is a woman - something I have never thought of questioning to date; (b) From you IP address it appears that you have the ability to time travel to get back to Wolverhampton to send in this post.}

I think we are all going to be disappointed with the quality of players we will sign in Jan.

The mandate is to sign players good enough to get us in the champions league, when we achieve this, then we will sign players of the calibre to win it. .

What was it again that Terry said about Liverpool being done? Chelsea look absolutely dead against Arsenal. I hope Comolli is watching and taking notes. One striker as good as he is (Drogba is actually having a good game) cannot carry an entire team. Ramires, Lampard, Essien, Kakuta, Mikel and Malouda are / were dead on their feet. They look old, slow and unimaginative out there. The point I'm trying to make is that bringing in a big money striker is pointless if you don't have the players to provide them with goalscoring opportunities. We need speed and skill on the wings, the rest (if need be) can wait until the summer.

{Editor's Note: So Torres is choosing the transfers. Could you ask him why he chose Christian Poulsen in the summer for me.}

but torres did have talks with the new owners when they took over and he was convinced into staying. they must of dangled the bait of a world class striker to do that. he must of had a few suggestions as to who would keep him here.

also got a question for ed. you seem to know of a signing for jan confirmed. can you at least let us know if its someone already mentioned on this site recently or someone else we have not thought of?

thanks
mikey

{Editor's Note: There is nothing confirmed that I am aware of. Certainly Aguero is not going to happen. Assuming Honda remains a target, he is just that (regardless of what any overweight Sunderland supporters tell you).}

thanks ed and for the record i would never talk to any sunderland supporters, especially the overweight ones :)

Ed, what do you make of the torres situation.shoild we sell him, does he want to go or what.And most importantly, when RH is gone will pacheco, kelly, suso and etc get a real chance into the team?

{Editor's Note: Torres will maybe go if someone offers enough - he is not performing and we need to move forward. Roy has given the kids a shot but not in a managed way. You cannot have too many too quick; and equally you cannot bring them in and out of a side and expect a decent performance.}

My opinion is really well known; others want Dalglish back as a player coach; Boas (ex Chelsea); Gerrard and all sorts of ther bizarre things. Who knows.}

Evening Ed. In response to the above poster, I don't think any supporter expects NESV to splash the cash Red Sox style. However in the interviews since their purchases John and Tom keep comparing LFC to Red Sox, so I think they will spend wisely, but big none the less. So I think every LFC supporter can expect a good January, and ever better Summer. NESV said judge them on their actions, Kept the faith.

Good point ED, i don't know much about llorente but he looks a strong lad with some skill. I think this would benefit torres and would enable babbel to play as a striker(when torres in injured) using his pace and good finishing skills.
I guess Honda could play on the left (if signed) and i'd play johnson on the right.
Honda and a striker like llorente would make a huge difference.
What do you think of wayne Bridge for left back? Nothing special, but cheapish and better than konchesky {ed's note - Bridge is no real improvement on Konch, may as well save the money and give Mavinga a chance.}

"and again how many f* king times there is no transfer budget people! !"

You clearly not in the know, our owners have set out a task to recruit the best young players around, and they have accepted that this will more often than not come at a cost, they want to make Liverpool winners again, not by splashing ridiculous amounts of money on players that might be flops. Comolli has been brought in to oversee that the money is being spent wisely, we do have a lot of money, this is shown by the Red Sox being the second most funded team in Baseball (Players get paid 3 times as much).

Now stop being such a negative arse!

- - -
He didn't mean we had no transfer money, he was just referring to the fact that transfers will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
If the player is young, marketable and a brilliant player then it doesn't matter how much he costs - if he fits into the managers system then he'll be actively pursued and most likely bought.
If the player is aging (ie 27/ 28 onwards), not marketable and will provide nothing to the team (for example, Carlton Cole) then he won't be touched with a barge-pole.

I have been on this practically all day and the names that have stuck out the most are honda and aguero.
Honda is a great free kick taker and i would love to see him playing in a red shirt with cole going out for around £10m.
With aguero though i think that he joined it would deffo be the strongest strikforce in the EPL along with torres, even though it is highly unlikely.
If I If these boys join there will be alot of competition in the side to start and that is exactly what we need.

What i was trying to say ED is that whenever the ball goes anywhere near torres when he is not in a goal scoring position, it never sticks. Same with babbel, good finisher, plenty of pace but can't hold the ball up with his back to goal.
Surely you don't have to play a long ball game to use a striker who can hold the ball up and wait for others to get into good positions? Perhaps waiting for midfeilders to overlap? Wingers to get wide, spread defenders out? Torres to get into space?
Great site ED entertains me for hours {ed's note - Carroll is not good at holding up the ball though, he is strong and great in the air, but he is not good at bringing others into the play. Llorente is a different kettle of fish, he can head the ball too, but he has more pace, movement, awareness and can bring others into the play.}

Liverpool Rumours
I may be wrong but somewhere in the very recesses of my tiny brain I seem to remember reading that Torres and Aguero have played together and don't actually hit it off. They dislike each other and don't play for each other. This isn't from "a source" or "an uncle who works at LFC who knows such and such". It's just a memory of something I once read.
Furthermore, I don't think we'll stand a chance of signing anyone "World-Class" in January. Seriously, If you played at a high level in Europe you would aspire to playing against the best and winning the top trophies. Why come to a Club whose ambitions are no greater than not losing away to the weakest teams in the League and whose management team of Hodgson and Lee have CV's which hardly get the adreniline pumping. The League Table doesn't lie. We are turning into Fulham and the reason why is obvious. Give Hodgson money to spend and we'll be lumbered with Carlton Cole, Sean Wright-Phillips, Cahill and whatever other crap fits into his "buy-British" Superplan. Meanwhile, incredible talent like Suso, Pacheco, Silva and other youngsters the likes of Barca and Madrid were scrapping for will fall onto the scrapheap. The first thing Hodgson did was get rid of Dalle-Valle who was one of our future stars. Why? Because he wanted to bring in the mighty Konchesky! . . .How did that work out Roy?
Whatever faults Rafa had he at least brought in some quality youngsters. He had a modicum of magnetism which Hodson doesn't. Grandad Roy may be able to attract Scandinavian has-beens but that's about it.
I don't even feel comfortable trying to compare Hodgson with Rafa. . . . .it's not even a competition!
However, I would not advocate Rafa's return. I believe in looking forward not back.
I believe in having managers who don't wear their hearts on their sleeves in front of the media. From what I've seen of Di Mattio and Coyle I'm quite impressed. Of the two, I'm assuming Di Mattio would have a bit more pulling-power if we need to attract more foreigners.
Anyway, I had a ticket for the Blackpool end for yesterday's postponed game and, I hate to say it but I'm pretty happy it was called off. Not that I was worried about accidently jumping up if we scored. . . . . . . that was always too big an if!
I just don't enjoy watching us anymore. . . . . .especially away from home! Besides, The Grinch was on and it was a toss-up between watching Torres and a sulking, miserable sod and. . . .you know the rest!
We play Wolves on Wednesday. . we are 3 to 1 on to win. Why? ?. . . . . Okay, Wolves are crap and our home record is impeccable compared to their away record but . . . . well can't you just see it?
Bah humbug fellow Fans. . .and a Happy New Year x

I read this site everyday and love looking at all the different opinions and feedback from the eds. However I cannot beleive that we have not learned our lessons from the past. We are supposed to be known for our knowledge of the game and be intelligent supporters but we are on here thinking we will get Aguero, Benzema, Johnson and every other name under the sun. It's not going to happen. NESV have already stated that they will take their time to get it right and I for one (as much as it hurts) am willing to write of this season and disgraceful Roy so that we do get it right in the summer. I can't wait to come on here on Feb 1 and read about how disappointed we all are with our transfer dealings, maybe we should just copy and paste from the same time last year!

When we were struggling for away wins a few seasons ago we brought Peter Crouch to hold the ball up.
Torres maybe the best finisher in the world and capable of scoring a truck load of guys when given good service but he does not hold the ball up well (not like drogba). Andy carol can do this well and is frightening in the air, i guessing lorente could do the same? thoughts ed? And since when has Jo cole ever been world class? He is a fairly tricky attacking midfielder and that's it {ed's note - Carroll is not good at holding the ball up, knocking it on, yes, but not holding it up. Unless we intend to stay as a long ball team hoofing the ball up to a big man for him to knock down to Torres, we shouldn't be looking at him.}

It's the RAFA loving brigade at it again.

I agree he may love the city and the club, he may even be a nice guy BUT, and it's a big BUT:-

No one in their right mind would say Hodgson is a better manager than Benitez - the fact is they are both stubborn individuals who are basically s* te at managing BIG clubs - end of.

Let's get this season over with - hope we are still in PL, and get a proven BIG club manager in and move on with the new owners doing the right thing

What can we expect against Wolves? The team set up in a 4-4-2 formation with us defending deeper than deep, with no chance of genuine support of an isolated Torres. A laboured win against a struggling Wolves will not hide the fact that Hodgson is tactically inept and a mid-table manager. He will play players out of their favoured position and stifle confidence and creativity, substitutions will be made from the 70th minute onwards and be like for like players to keep the team shape the same. Even Mick McCarthy will be able to predict this familiar boring pattern. Enjoy the spectacle lads, we need the three points! The only player that has been spoken about by all the lads that go the match is Ashley Young, only pub talk as far as I can gather.

Nesv said they wanted our income to cover the transfers so with not having debt we must have around 25-35million a season for transfers. That would do me 1 or 2 top players a season. That would be without nesv dipping into there own pockets. Then if a world class player came up for grabs I'm sure nesv would put there own money.

Right lets set the record straight, firstly I am a big fan of Rafa.

That does not mean he is always correct, or that I neccessarily want him back as manager, but, if you compare his record to Hodgson, they are not even in the same world , never mind the same league.

Hodgson has won two trophys in 20 odd years, in Denmark, not the strongest league in the world.

Rafa has won 14 trophys, in the last 17 years from youth level to Champions League. But even ignoring all that, he was Manager of Liverpool on the night of one of the Greatest matches of all time, that night in TURKEY, do any of you true fans remember the feeling that night, and the next day , and the next. For that I thank Rafa, He fought against the H and G for that I thank him.

The man loves Liverpool FC, for that I thank him. Do I want if back in charge not sure, if Paco was with him as Assistant definatley Yes.

Yes he had problems last year, the injurys were bad, the Alonso situation should have been handled better, but we were upset at being 7th last season, and Rafa was sacked.

This season under hodgson if you compare our league table position week by week with 2009-10 season, we have been lower in the league all season accept in the first week.

Now before we say its not Hodgsons team, its Rafas, yes it is , the same team Rafa finished 7th with.

Has Poulson improved that team, has the mummies boy at left back been better that Insua.?? ?

So for those who say give Hodgson time and a chance , and that he's a great Manager, exactly what is that thought based on, because its not his outstanding record. He won the League Manager of the Year award simply because they were desparate to give it to an English Manager, yes he got to a final in Europe, but don't forget he lost it.

Rafa Better Manager (tick bel)
Hodgson Better (tick unbel)good post mate, can feel your passion when reading it, but i kinda think you missing the point, things under rafa had started to go stale, his tactics were no longer enough, he lost the dressing room, or if not the dressing room the 3 most influential players at the club, and a change was needed.
i like you had some of the greatest nights of my life whilst rafa was in charge, and if it came down to a 2 horse race out of rafa and roy, it would be rafa everytime. but rafa should not and will not come back, instead a new era should begin. with a new manager, new ideas and an attacking mentality. . . defo not roy tho!

The argument from many people has been that we wouldn't be able to afford a player of his calibre; again I tend to disagree. John Henry has recently spent $187 million dollars on two players for his Red Sox baseball team and Damien Comolli has stated "If there's a possibility of us getting a world-class player, we will have the backing".

There is no correlation between how baseball works and football - this figure you've quoted is salary for these players spread over multiple years - in the case of Carl Crawford he has a ten year contract. In baseball you don't buy players in the way football teams do, you trade players between teams, often multiple teams being involved. Also NESV have stated that the profit generated by the club will go back into the club, as it does in Boston, but the important difference there is that the red sox play around 85 games a season at fenway park, which is sold out every game, so the income generated is massive. This is the money used to pay these huge contracts, not Henry and others signing cheques from their personal accounts. To state that Liverpool have the finances to purchase players like Aguero, citing the Boston trade deals, is to misunderstand the process. We will be trying for players who may be under-valued, thus minimising our financial outlay while hopefully pushing the team back up, initially into the top four. This success leads to increased revenues, both from from our raised profile and financial incentives for doing well (along with increased stadium revenues), which then enables the club to go for the really high end players should they be deemed necessary - the club will, in essence, be set up to self-finance.

Totally agree with the previous rumours regarding funds and chances of obtaining world class players.
The truth is Damien Comolli is picking these players, not so much Augero but many of the others mentioned where/ are his targets.
The new liverpool board, although giving there backing to Hodgson have known since Comolli arived that he does not have the clout to convince real superstars to join.
As for Hodgson, his number has been up for a long time, expect another manager in the coming months, Martin O`Neill was mentioned prior to Hodgson but contractual misgivings/ falling outs with Randy Learner put this on hold.
What ever occurrs lets hope that the new players/ staff bring a bit more class to liverpool, not just to add numbers on big wages.

I am a Liverpool fan from Anfield and i totally agree, why have we turned on cole all of a sudden he is a world class player you can't turn into a bad player over night, all he needs is a run of games in is proper position behind the frontman not on the left hand side, i like most liverpool fans where made up when cole signed for us just give him a chance one goal and his confidence will shot up and we will all be praising him again, give the lad a chance he is playing in a side that is low on confidence its not just him playing bad there are ten other players on that pitch who are just as bad apart from reina anyways.

First thing i wana say is joe cole is not gonna be sold in jan end of. why are us liverpool fans so quick to judge, the boy needs time to adjust, and roy needs to find out his most effective position. afew months ago everyone was banging on about how great it was he came to us, and now people are turning on him, if your judging him on form , then he should be one of many that should be listed. i no i would rather have joe cole just behind torres than carlton cole as his partner! (maybe had we not been so quick to offload robbie keane we may have won the league 2 years ago, ) reputation alone should allow joe cole till the end of the season to find his feet!
maybe if roy picked a formation to suite the players that are in the squad instead of trying to put players into his formation we might stand a chance of climbing the table some day soon. im trying really hard not to contradict my point above, but the way he plays us down to the media is disgracefull. he should be doing what redknapp is at tottenham and trying to give the players confidence. he knows spurs won't or can't win the title but isn't gona come out and say it! confidence is low, and you stick together, you don't come out and kick the player when he down, as it makes it even harder for him the next time he plays! i wonder if roy the balls to come and and say poulsen is not good enough, or buying konchesky was a mistake?? just another rafa imo, blaming everybody else other than himself!

After the comments made last week from agents and senior executives about this January window being more active than usual, its clear that clubs with big name players but lacking in financial strength / league postion i.e. Athletico Madrid, Bordeaux, Wolsberg, Ajax, Benfica, Althetic Bilboa etc are contemplating selling their prized assets. Why? well the new financial regulations will mean these players values will never be higher than in this window and therefore this willl be the last chance to cash in for a maximum return.

I start with Wolsberg, its no secret their squad needs refreshing and their skint but need new players, selling Dzeko next week for right price makes sense. ASAP I would offer Jovanovic and Poulsen plus 19m for Dzeko.

I would offer Babel and 12m for Suarez.

Hopefully one offer would be acepted and then you approach PSV for Dzsudzsak offering 17m.

If PSV won't sell, only other wingers worth a punt would be, 9m for N, 'zogbia or Marc Albrighton offering 10m plus joe cole.

When squad fit we have sufficient defensive cover as Robinson, Wilson, Ayala, Kelly are coming through so I would only go for a decent left back as GJ is obviously staying despite the rumours.

I would therefore offer Inusa on loan plus 12m for France left back Beniot Tremoulinas.

"Liverpool to sign Carlton Cole in January for £8.5million another possible signing is Charles Nzogbia of wigan for £12million."

There are 39 unbel for this, I am not the original poster, but I also expect the above to happen in the first week of Jan . These are not good signings I know , but very very likely.
I don't know about the prices but there is also a possibility of using J Cole as part of the C Cole deal.

it got 39 unbel's, , cos that's what it is now unbel, , , there is no way now that we have new owners and money to spend that they would even ask about cole now and use joe cole as part of a deal and same with nzogbia, , liverpool now with new owners and money will be looking for much better options and talent

Januari is crucial, i have some things that i am not reading anywhere.
the last few windows we didn't have the finance to get the players we wanted so now we are in need of at least 6 players.
we bought soto and konch only because there was no money.aurelio should have been replaced.and because time has gonne by and carra is getting old.we never got the wings that we wanted and another striker.
so i believe we need 3 defenders and 2 wingers and 1 striker.and 1 holding mid.
we can do this in next 2 windows.
we had xabi mas luc gerrard at 1 time.
meirelles has been great so has lucas but poulsen was a mistake by hodgsen.i am sorry to say that the only players that are up to liverpool standard are
reina
johnson
agger
meirelles
lucas
gerrard
cole
torres.
i am not saying the rest are terrible but they are never starters in my eyes.if we get it right in januari our starters will only be playing better.
if NESV are what the say they are they will buy this januari, because if we don't end up 4 this season, the summer transfers cannot be met financialy and the players not wanting to come.
ed?

{Editor's Note: I don't think we will see six new players in January, but I expect that there will be some tweaking of what we have.}

Anyone been watching LFC TV's 60 minute interview with Lucas Lieva?

I get the distinct feeling that he's not too keen on some of his colleagues. The interviewer (can't remember her name), seemed to give him several leading questions - which appeared to be fishing for praise for Gerrard & Carragher but on each occasion Lucas praised someone else. He even praised Xabi!

Maybe I reading too much into this but I don't think Lucas actually likes the skipper or his understudy. You may say who cares but it says a lot about what is going on in and around the club at present.

I just had a wild idea. The majority of us want to see the back of RH, but we all seem to disagree on the new manager we would want.
We all want a young manager, with fresh ideas, a manager that would be fully commited to the LFC cause, would have the interests of the club at heart, would be a big enough name that could attract world class players.

Surely we should not look any further than our own captain, Stevie G, with guidance from King Kenny, as our next player coach.

No one can doubt he is liverpool through and through, he would have fresh ideas, instantly have the respect of many of the worlds top players, would refuse to take less than 110% from anyone, but to do it in line with the experience of Kenny to give him the perfect grounding, and the knowledge of how to successfully juggle the 2 positions.

Like the idea but what about cara. .

His is well known for having an AMAZING football knowledge. . he is getting on a bit and has been earmarked for an england job earlier in the week. .

Like Stevie is LFC through and through and although he might not have the big 'name' that Stevie has he would have no trouble getting players as he is soo well respected within the trade.

Good! How do you know that we can't afford his wages? How do you know that NESV won't break the bank to make this happen? Hold on. . . . you are SpanishChris and only you know what is going to happen, RIGHT!
WRONG. . . .you know nothing just like me. I am merely expressing something I believe in! Eat your shorts when it happens. You should have just disagreed instead of insulting!

You're right, I don't know anything, I just read what's said and interpret, on the assumption that people such as John Henry aren't lying. I apologise if you thought anything I said was insulting - the thought of wasting an insult in such a mild manner really upsets me. The reason I'm so confident that we won't be signing Aguero is because of the stated transfer/ recruitment policy of NESV. That's the only information I have. As for simply using the disagree button, there's is neither entertainment nor illumination in that, whereas entering into a discussion or a bit of banter allows people to justify their opinions in greater detail, or as you put it, express something you believe in. I believe in Father Christmas, Atlantis, talking goats, and I even saw a tortoise with a wheel for a leg on telly this morning, but I don't believe we will sign Aguero. And as for eating my shorts, I have no particular objection as long as I can keep the gravy in them.

To be honest, I don't think Steve would make a good manager, But i think Jamie has the voice and the passion to be a liverpool manager. This is purely based on the characters that we see speaking on TV, Gerrard isn't the best speaker, where as Carra is an excellent speaker, from this i extrapilate that carra would be a better manager than Gerro

I think we should buy 1 more midfielder, and 2 aggressive wingers in the jan transfer window, be this Honda or whoever, if I had a choice however I'd defiently buy Banega and Mata from Valencia, they are a great partnership and Banega's creativity is immense.
My idol team after jan transfer window
- - - -Reina- - - -
Johnson-Carra-Skrtl-Kon
- - - - Meireles- - - -
- - Gerrard- -Banega-
-Mata- Torres-Honda-
I'd love to see this team play the 4-3-3, and Torres to have some decent service other than gerrard, this would leave banega and gerrard the oppotunity to give creative passes each way across attacking line, rather than one direct way to torres, and even better rather than having to pass back. I think Gerrard would be confident with Meireles holding the line behind him, so giving him the ability to get forward Granted Mata is left footed but i still think hes better with his right than any other possible player we have for RW right now.
Let's face it, we need to stop playing Torres on his own.
Bel- if you like this idea
unbel- if you dont

Roy is such a tube. hes been blaming everything but himself for the past few months of bad football. the squad wasnt his, the players are paid too much, he didn't inherit a top 4 side etc. fact of the matter is, he did inherit a top 4 side, albeit a side who finished 7th last season, although i put that down to off-field problems and political turmoil within the club, rather than an incapable footballing side. roy also says that he wasnt chosen just because of a decent season he had with fulham last year, am i missing something? ok final of the europa league is nice for fulham, but its no champions league, and did he even win 1 match away from home? if he considers that a decent season, hes a bigger tube than i thought.

Well i think Ajax have a slightly higher profile and history than vvv or cska mate, don't get out ye pram about it am not saying he's a bad player just pointing out that he may not be this all singing all dancing player people are making him out to be. I would like to see us take a punt on Lavezzi at Napoli, not saying he's a world beater but looks a hardworker who would create chances for Torres and chip in with a few goals.

Personally I don't think anything will become of this rumour but anyway:

Edin Dzeko comes with a 40m euro price tag, roughly £34m, Wolfsburg are however willing to accept cash along with a player, Babel, Kuyt, Agger, etc. Dzeko would prefer a move to Italy but with Man City and Liverpool keen on him a PL move is just as likely.
What a signing this would be.

Ed, I think you've been knocking back a bit of the old cheeky sauce, as evidenced by this (one of your better efforts, btw)- it deserves another showing:

Forget the rest Aguero is the only striker who Liverpool WILL buy in January, Torres himself has requested Aguero and the the new owners are working to finalise this deal as the major signing in january.

I have it on good authority that NESV will be leaving the big green monster in left field at Fenway Park for the forseeable.

I would've thought it was obvious - Torres has lost form since cutting his trademark golden locks, he required a "hair donor" to cultivate a replacement wig, hence Poulsen was bought. Once he visits the barber's he'll be shipped out.

Please please buy hulk! Him and torres would be brillant up front with balls being supplied by Stevie G and Honda! Let's hope the owners have their head screwed on and know what we need on the pitch as well as off the pitch to win games! I totally agree their is a good spine to the team there is only really a couple of positions e need to improve on. I would sap johnson for kelly at RB and push johnson up into RM cos he is useless at defending, i would defo get rid of the likes of babbel, poulsen, Ngog jovanavic, Jones, Konchesky and i would give cole a run of games he is class lay hin behind Torres and push gerrard back into midfield and play the grafter kuyt and Torres up fromt straight back to 442

Reina

Kelly
Kyrgiakos
Skrtel
Aurellio

Johnson
Gerrard
Lucas
Maxi

Cole
Torres

Obviously hwne fit Carragher comes back in but that is a good side but with a couple of new dditions we can shoot up that table. Its only the subs bench that week. What does everyone think.

I would love to see Hulk playing for the Liverpool as I think he could be very like tevez for city! He's strong, quick and can bring others into play around him! Him and any player up front would make mince meat of most Premership's back line! We haven't a bad team overall we just need to add one or two ppl in the right positions and the second half of the season could be a real turnaround! Please please buy a centre forward and Honda aswell and the season will lighten up! As for Roy I'm sure the players don't pay to much attend to wat he says on the sidelines! We need to grab games by the neck and go for it!

Everyone is slating Elmander, but he has scored more than anyone in our team. ., a big strong target man to hold up the ball for Torres, and would come at a decent price with lowish wages, has premiership experience so wouldn't need to settle, why can't anyone see this move makes sense!
I know you disagree ed, but who do you think we should get, because all these world class players are good, but would need time to settle and adjust!

This transfer window, we should go only for top quality to win games and improve on our position. We don't need to get lots of players just one striker to score, we haven't managed to win because we have been able to score.
End of season we can off load and start a fresh on the positional replacements and try getting back into CL.
I hope lfc will seriously buy top quality only even if it means just a striker to score and get us the wins we desperately need.

Now don't get me wrong it is difficult to see why he would want to leave Atletico Madrid who won last season's Europa League to join a Liverpool team that's struggling a lot on the pitch but looking at previous quotes from the Argentine my initial thoughts of "no chance" have altered. In an interview with German TZ newspaper Aguero was quoted as saying: "If I had to choose a league then it would be the Premier League, I have been a Liverpool fan for as long as I can remember and it would be a dream to play there. I watched the Champions League final and celebrated every goal as if it was for Independiente." There have also been quotes when talking of Chelsea, Aguero admitted he would love to play alongside Fernando Torres once again. This is backed up further by the model the new owners have set, young talent with big potential, Aguero is 22 and already considered one of the world's best strikers.

Hi I have said before here nd I say again we need to use this January market to good effect as this could possibly determine our season nd more common sense nd clever transfers needs to be done to full affect to bring back our season on track. . clubs needs to go foward nd replace again players nd ineffective ones with replacements not squad rotation players.
Sell
Kuyt 6 mill
Babel 6 mill
Poulsen 2 mill
Jovanovic 3 mill
Insua. 3 mill . . .total all above is 20 mill
Buy
2 wingers my choices are Honda 10 mill nd albrighton 5 mill or santi cazola 10 mill or ellia nd this balances money from players sold . . we need another striker nd I think llorente could be bought nd nsev would be out by 25 mill but then aqua s possible sale in summer nd degen nd few other fringe sales would balance it out . .

Also, if honda is signed, when do you expect dis to happen as he will be off for the asian championships.

{Editor's Note: The Europa league is for teams that win domestic cups and finish lower in the tables. The Champions League has several fold more money in prizes and television revenue.}

Hi Ed (and all)
i'm hoping (not expecting) a bit of activity in january.

Firstly Honda - everything seems to have gone quiet on this front (ala Meireles) - so maybe there's a bit of mileage in that one. Can play wing or off the front man - so can cover a few positions and wouldn't cost an arm and a leg! Fingers crossed.

Secondly - n'zogbia - not really a world class signing, but definately one that would improve our left side - English, young and relatively cheap - though i'd love to see Turan come in - young, mega talented and has stated that he would love to play for us - (passion we have been missing).

Ever Banega - I've been watching him for quiet a while now - even though he can't get in the Valencia team (attitude or a fall out with the coach) - i think he has the nescessary skills, age and aggression to make it in the EPL - like Masch - but can pass the ball better (and Valancia are in financial meltdown/ problems).

A partner/ someone up top for cover for Torres - Van Wolfswinkel has been muted - I've only seen him play in the two European matches v us this year and couldn't tell whether he's be a good signing - i know he's been putting them away this year - any thoughts Ed?
i don't expect too many signings - these would be a good start to 2011 - just wish they could announce them in tiem for the FA cup draw v Manure.

Any thoughts on these ED?
Love the site, keep up the great work

{Editor's Note: I am not so keen on N'Zogbia, but the others are decent players.}

Riera: A combination of him slapping a youth player and saying that "the club is a sinking ship" got him sidelined until the very first offer that came for him.

With Yossi: He wanted to leave as simple as , and looking at what happened to him at chelsea and his performances leading to his injury I would say we were lucky to sell him when we did.

So for those who say give Hodgson time and a chance , and that he's a great Manager, exactly what is that thought based on, because its not his outstanding record. He won the League Manager of the Year award simply because they were desparate to give it to an English Manager, yes he got to a final in Europe, but don't forget he lost it.

Rafa Better Manager (tick bel)
Hodgson Better (tick unbel)

Spurs showed interest few days earlier and there was already contact . His move to spurs was not a total surprise to everyone and I do remember there were a lot of posts on this site about it . we just laughed it off.
