We need a high-scoring clean sheet in at least one of the remaining four games. Like a 5-0. It may just come down to goal difference, with the stragglers slowly creeping up. And on a side note, I'd be quite happy if Spurs nipped Chelsea to the title. Second best attack and best defense in the league, not to mention a quiet, no-nonsense, drama-free manager.

Believable12 Unbelievable0

27 Apr 2017 22:45:29
It could easily happen against an already relegated Boro on the last day. Bournemouth and Hull have both put four past them recently.

28 Apr 2017 00:10:51
Chelsea deserve it for me.
Strong defence and rapid counter attacking football at its best.
Top manager as well.

28 Apr 2017 03:23:12
The amount of gas that already comes out of spurs fans without achieving anything is enough for me, if they win the title they'll say they're a bigger club than Liverpool etc and the nonsense that comes out of there mouths at time is unbearable, that's the type of mentality spurs fans have. At least we know what to expect from plastic Chelsea fans. I like poch though, he's a very promising manager.

28 Apr 2017 06:37:29
I'm with you Kman, my experience of both their fans is grim but I really rate Poch.

28 Apr 2017 07:08:06
No time for Spurs. I don't think the Boro game will be easy.
4 x 1-0 wins will do for me 👍.

29 Apr 2017 10:21:28
Nothing's guaranteed in the PL and we are in the best position to know that.

Pub Banter:

I remember many years ago when Man Utd, Liverpool and David O'Leary's Leeds were the title challengers.

One night, Liverpool and Leeds were playing. I was in my local which was packed with Liverpool fans including the owner, Jimmy. Also there was Tony, a very bitter Man Utd fan who hates any team that challanges Utd but in particular Liverpool due to a bad experience I believe working in Liverpool in the 70's. An angry man.

Anyway, just before kick off, Tony (the utd fan) was sitting in the middle of the Liverpool fans, bolt upright, arms folded, angry face on.
The owner Jimmy decided to hop a ball off him and shouted a question to him from up behind the bar as to which team (both chasing Utd) he would rather see win. 'What do you hope for at Anfield tonight Tony? '

Tony didn't even pause. 'A ****IN EARTHQUAKE'! .
Classic banter to be fair 😂.

0-0 and a 22 man brawl?

27 Apr 2017 21:26:55
Ed 001, if you're about, I would be interested to hear your views on Mourinho's comments about Jones and Smalling and their mental attitude towards playing through pain. It just reminded me of our difference of opinion regarding Sturridge and his injuries, we had on Sunday. I presume you think Mourinho is also a dinosaur with regards to the mental side of the game?

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - Jose is Jose, it is this expectation that his players play through injuries that caused the breakdown of his relationship with Chelsea. Now he is again hitting out at a club's medical team, this time through the players. If he doesn't trust the players or the medical advice then he needs to make changes. One thing I would never accuse Jones of is being afraid of playing through pain, he has spent so much time out in large part due to playing through pain and making injuries worse. I will take the physio and doctor over Jose every time. They are trained to know when a player is ready.}

27 Apr 2017 21:42:45
Many thanks, as always, for your quick response and posting my comments.

{Ed001's Note - no worries mate. It is a good point that you made, though I think Jose is going to end up causing the same division he did at Chelsea if this carries on. He can't keep publicly criticising his players the way he has done without them turning on him. He was always careful in the past to protect them and take all the criticism on himself.}

27 Apr 2017 21:51:33
I hope Jose does a better demolishion job this time 😁.

27 Apr 2017 22:31:46
It's in his skill set, Ron. Wait and watch. :-)

28 Apr 2017 00:18:35
I wish he'd transfer list a few of them.
Jones is a top player but will injury stop him fulfilling the potential.

Fergie reckoned when he signed Jones that he could be Utds finest ever player.
That's some praise.

28 Apr 2017 06:25:07
Yeah, that was a good one from Fergie 😆.

28 Apr 2017 09:27:28
Hes fine now. Set those standards.

Make every player look hows he's treated the others.

It has to stop next season though if he doesn't was a revolt.

27 Apr 2017 19:58:30
What result are people hoping for in the Manchester Derby tonight? Either a draw or Man city win for me as City have an easier run in nd if utd drop points tonight they also have some other tough games coming up which they could drop more points.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

27 Apr 2017 20:06:01
1) city win

17) draw

193) united win.

27 Apr 2017 20:54:28
I think a United win is better for us, but I despise them, so I want them to get tanked 5-0.

Doesn't seem like that's happening though.

27 Apr 2017 21:01:30
Zed. Explaine dem numbers, I've had a few!?

28 Apr 2017 09:13:40
Did a bit of analysis in a post a couple of days ago that with a draw, both city and united could catch us - city with one more point than our potential 78 points, and United on tge same points, so it will come down to goal difference between us and united for 4th place.

If united win, both teams can pass us, albeit we will be on gD with city.

If City had won, it could still be in our hands as we would have higher potential points then united.

Hence, big preference for city win, less so for draw, and defe didn't want United win, not least as I hate Maureen!

Hi Ed 01
Reading Steven Gerrard's views on being u18 coach. I think he must have read your answer about the academy set up and progression of these young players. He has basically said they are too soft and need to get harder and more physical. I remember you saying they get handed everthing too early and are spoilt. So Ed, do you think SG is looking to do the right thing? Thank you x.

Believable5 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - yes mate, he has very much listened to the same people as I have and taken their advice on board. I have been very impressed with him so far since retiring from playing. He has shown a surprising maturity and is using his intelligence to learn quickly.}

27 Apr 2017 19:24:52
Cheers Ed01. I'm so happy SG has returned to our club and I am looking forward to his input and hope he can help to bring back long term success and joy to all LFC supporters. YNWA.

{Ed001's Note - I think it was the right move for all parties. Him starting at the bottom is exactly what he needs to learn his role and it is the best place for any lack of experience to be mitigated by his sheer presence inspiring the youngsters.}

27 Apr 2017 21:37:41
Great to hear that he's not being arrogant and acting like he knows it all. Just slightly worried that he seems to putting a huge emphasis on physicality, wouldn't the u18s be much better doing more tactical/ technical work. Can see the point to toughen them up but I think their technical ability should come first. Just my opinion though.

{Ed001's Note - it is not about physicality mate, he is talking about heart and desire. Drive and will to win. Not being strong and fast as such. At least that was how I understood it.}

27 Apr 2017 22:05:27
Agree Ed he was saying ability wil get you so far but drive and determination is the difference. you've got to want it more than your peers to make it.

{Ed001's Note - hopefully the inspiration of having him there will drive on the youngsters.}

27 Apr 2017 22:34:23
He certainly seems a lot less arrogant as a coach than he was as a player towards the end.

28 Apr 2017 00:31:29
He wasn't arrogant

He wanted to win

I'd call the likes of Costa arrogant trying to manoeuvre a move to China to land a bigger paycheck.

Gerrard was never like that. He knew how great the success the club had won before and wanted to regain those levels again

It's easy to knock him but don't forget what he did for his club when he could have gone anywhere in Europe.

Listen to all his top top contemporaries from the biggest and best clubs in Europe, you don't hear any of them calling him arrogant. They all wanted to play with him.

Top man in my book.

28 Apr 2017 01:07:29
Dermot, I agree with a lot of what you have said, but we don't know the man, and whether or not other players wanted to play with him makes no difference. His quality was not in question, he was an elite talent.
Ed001 has explained, on numerous occasions, that Gerrard could act like a jerk at times. It's great to see him getting proper experience of a tough role before he considers professional management, however.

28 Apr 2017 02:17:35
I agree with you and don't know the lad. But maybe his desire to win the top prizes made him out to be awkward.
As I say I don't know the lad but I reckon our club is better off having him with us than somewhere else.

The under 18s will have a man who lifted the champions league trophy guiding them and maybe bollocking them.
He was once where they are now and if that isn't enough to motivate you to prove yourself then you have no right to be there.

It's all good from where I see it.

27 Apr 2017 23:04:56
Fair enough ed001 must have misread it, well that's great to hear because unfortunately several top talents fall away without making an impression because everything is handed to them and they just expect to turn up and perform. Doesn't happen at this level.

28 Apr 2017 08:34:43
I have to admit im not a fan of him as a person but loved him as a footballer. I think this is a win win for both him and the club and wish him every success.

27 Apr 2017 18:07:42
Question for the Eds, or anyone else.

What sort of methods does Klopp use in his training? as in does he favour tactical periodisation or does he, like Wenger, basically make his players try and think for themselves?

I understand that it won't be as clear cut as either or, but just quite curious especially with the emphasis Klopp places on the transition between being in and out of possession.

I've heard Linders is a huge advocate of periodisation, as was Rodgers when he was here, which is not surprising I guess, considering the former will have known Frade and the latter worked under Mourinho.

Also, where would someone like Bielsa fit in? I remember one of the Eds explaining his tactical approach a few years ago but I can't remember what was said.

Thanks,

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - to be honest, this would take far too much to explain, I don't have the time to get into it properly right now mate, sorry. It would really take a longform article for me to do. Maybe something I could have time to get into in the summer if I am lucky.}

27 Apr 2017 18:32:34
I'd also be interested in hearing more about that, Ed if you manage to find the time.

{Ed001's Note - OK I will add that to my to do list. I had managed to trim it down to a mere 500 articles as well, was beginning to worry I would run out of things....}

27 Apr 2017 18:42:25
Thanks Ed, I look forward to it if you do manage to get round to producing something on it! I understand it's not as simple as one method or the other. Fascinating nonetheless though.

{Ed001's Note - it will do it, just take a bit of research, as I don't want to misrepresent it, so I will have to chase up a lot of people to get different viewpoints. I did have some Klopp training drills on a pdf somewhere but I can't find it or I would put them up for you.}

27 Apr 2017 22:09:01
It's a great question happy to wait as long as you need for your views ed.

{Ed001's Note - cheers Squizza. You will have to bear with me on this one!}

27 Apr 2017 18:02:34
Anyone read Gerrards comments about the under 18s? Not sure if he was misquoted or I am paraphrasing poorly - excuse me if I am - but the gist I got was, is that he will look for passion and heart over skills like flicks and turns. Whilst I agree that heart, desire and passion is important, I feel part of the problem with modern football is a lot of players are scared to try something to beat a defender, or create or chance. Hopefully this won't deter them, but with Gerard saying it - I'm sure he's an icon to many of the youth players - they may be afraid of trying something to unlock a defence. Any thoughts eds and reds?

Believable2 Unbelievable4

27 Apr 2017 18:26:27
If think you're reading a lot into an innocent comment. He's not saying that he's going to be looking for passion and heart alone, just that he's not going to be producing and pushing on the players who have plenty of technical skill but show no appetite to fight for anything in their lives.

27 Apr 2017 18:37:49
He actually said that skills obviously are very important but there isn't enough young players with the heart and desire, If you are at that level you have clearly have talent but not enough young players want to player through the burning in their chest.

27 Apr 2017 19:56:04
Fair enough gunn, glad to hear that, like I said I only read an extract!

28 Apr 2017 00:39:34
I think he means that there cosseted too much.
He wants theme to have the fire in the belly. Win the battle for your place.
Like Suarez. Top class but still wants to win that much he would take a bite out of you if it would help him score.
A winner who leaves nothing on the pitch. (Well maybe the odd mouthful)

27 Apr 2017 16:42:47
Hello eds and fellow football fans.
With regards to the latest Joey Barton indiscretion.
I think we can all say that he's a bit of a plonker for what he did but, ignoring his past, was his sentence too harsh?
Also with what he said about the leagues being involved with sponsorship by betting firms (LFC also heavily involved) can we, or should we, see a sway away from such involvement by them?
It is rather hypocritical, I find personally, that they ban and fine someone for being involved in a practice that they're prepared to take money from and openly encourage by doing so.
Does anyone have any thoughts?
Ed001 from a fan perspective and, if you care to get involved, ed002 from a business perspective?

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - Quite frankly he has been stupid but he should have been offered help. The ban is particularly harsh and refects previous problems. As for the involvement of betting companies in sponsorship, some clubs shy away from such companies but others are happy to be involved.}

27 Apr 2017 17:56:57
I don't see the argument about sponsorship to be honest.
How many years were we sponsored by Carlsberg?
Plenty of alcoholics in and out of football. No-one bat an eyelid.
Barton has been a fool, time for his agent and the PFA to step up and get him help.

27 Apr 2017 18:32:09
Barton needs help true, but it doesn't stop him being a scumbag that needs to learn and accept this every moment in his life doesn't exist in isolation. He can't claim he's a nice thoughtful guy after beating rubbish out of lads on the street and getting into fights with team mates, he can't intentionally start fights on the field to try and get people sent off or go studs up time after time and claim he's a fair player and he can't get yet another ban for a major footballing offense and claim it's too hard because it's his first offence when it's simply the first attempt of it's specific kind.

Not to mention he bet on his own team losing. Which people may say was because he wasnt involved in the squad, but you don't know he wasnt giving key players a kick in training, or betting cause he knew their top striker was not getting kicks on target all week, or that their keeper wouldn't be playing for personal reasons etc and betting accordingly. Just cause he couldn't actually make a loss happen doesn't mean he couldn't play with the odds!

{Ed025's Note - im with you hjikie barton is a nasty piece of work, prison is place he should be mate..

27 Apr 2017 19:57:14
The problem with Barton, is that he knows just enough big words to make people think he has a little sense. He's just a hooligan with a dictionary.

27 Apr 2017 17:09:53
Everyone's first memory of their first time at Anfield?
Mine was 1993 versus Swindon.
I lived in Hereford, my dad gave me £20 and me and my best mate took a minibus, arranged in the local paper down.
It got us travel, a ticket into the Kop, scarf, programme and a bag of chips from the Dolphin (? ) afterwards.
Finished 2-2 and I'll never forget the crush when we scored no a chap standing behind us, put his arms round me and my friend, onto the bollards, and seemed to hold everyone back. We stood the other side of it after that.
We were 13 at the time, I'm not sure if our parents knew what they were giving us money for, but it was a hell of a day.
Went back twice more that season, Manchester City and Newcastle United. It was the season after that the Kop was all seated.
I'm so glad I got to stand in it.

Believable3 Unbelievable0

27 Apr 2017 18:35:52
2013. First bonus I ever got at work. A season ticket holder I know went travelling and let me buy tickets for two games together for my dad and I, paid for everything (cleaned out the bonus and then some but was a dream come true) . First was West Ham, second was Cardiff. Arrived 3 hours early, wondered around until the doors opened and then took our seats in an empty stadium and watched it fill. What a day.

{Ed025's Note - sounds good mate..

27 Apr 2017 22:32:32
Mine was Against qpr a couple of years ago. My mate has a season ticket with his dad and brothers, but they couldn't go so got to go instead. Got to see Gerrards last league goal at anfield. Was a good day out.

27 Apr 2017 22:28:42
We were against napoli, the atmosphere was electric with banter going between the sets of fans. We went 1-0 down and was thinking the worst (first game at anfield being a loss) then stevie g joined the fray and banged a hat trick.

Wont be forgetting that in a very long time!

27 Apr 2017 14:56:54
Hi Ed002

Can you say please if we have held any talks with Keita's representatives or his Club at this stage about a possible transfer?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - RBL has said which sides they have spoken with but at this time it does not include Liverpool. Spurs have also been watching him in recent weeks.}

27 Apr 2017 16:15:23
This is one signing i really hope LFC can pull off. Keita will make a big difference to our midfield. Unlike Lallana, he shows up for all games and his overall qualities dwarf that of the likes of Can and Hendo.

27 Apr 2017 16:25:25
Ok ed cheers for reply mate. Sounds like were up against big clubs for his signature.

{Ed002's Note - I understand from an Arsenal scout that the club will look to make an offer to RBL for Naby Keita in the summer but they are concerned that he would not be interested if the did not have Champions League football and if they could not give him assurances about playing regularly. He has been looked at by Arsenal on several occasions these past two seasons with interest also being shown by PSG and Dortmund with the prior interest of Bayern Munich waning although not ruled out. There has been no interest shown by Liverpool at all according to RBL but I am aware that rumours persist and I am aware that last summer they spoke with his representatives but Liverpool would not match the wage demands, the asking price not guarantee playing time. Spurs have recently been watching him and have also yet to speak with RBL. If Liverpool were to double what RBL paid last summer, come up with a good financial package, could offer Champions League football and could give the guarantees of playing time - at someone's expense, I don't know who, then they need to talk to Leipzig.}

27 Apr 2017 16:25:57
Indian buzzer why did you feel the need to slag players off just say yes he's class I'd love him at liverpool.

27 Apr 2017 17:24:27
cheers again ed for the detailed reply mate. "There has been no interest shown at all by Liverpool" Is good enough for me mate. This is why I only trust this site and don't follow Twitter Instagram Bbc Sly sports as they all have zip idea and make crap up. The only other is the Echo and James Pearce reakons were after him along with others. Shows what he knows. Thanks again mate.

{Ed002's Note - As I said, they have not at this time spoken with RBL and they would need to.}

27 Apr 2017 18:39:21
Overall qualities dwarf Can and Hendo - are you having a laugh? Have you even watched him play? Or let me guess, you're an avid follower of the Austrian League and knew all about his quality since he signed for Salzburg?

{Ed001's Note - Salzburg? He plays for Leipzig in Germany, the Bundesliga....}

27 Apr 2017 18:42:30
Finally a goal scoring midfielder who could also win the ball back and start an attack itself.

27 Apr 2017 22:48:12
Ed001 I suspect hjikle is referring to fact that prior to RBL he was playing for their sister club Salzburg.

28 Apr 2017 13:14:45
I was phil yes, because otherwise people are being even more silly making massive statements about a player based on his one season in Germany.

27 Apr 2017 13:16:35
Loving the new kit! pre-ordered one for my daughter who is due anytime next month! YNWA. let's welcome her to the world with a top 4 finish and a league win next year! Last time we won it was the year I was born so I am hoping my daughter ends the jinx!

Believable13 Unbelievable3

27 Apr 2017 14:16:01
Not buying mine till I can put the champions league badge on it as well 😉.

27 Apr 2017 14:24:37
I like how you think.

27 Apr 2017 18:34:11
That is a Boss kit, right there. Chuffed to bits about it.

27 Apr 2017 23:00:41
Love the home kit, keepers is going back to green which is good but hate how they have changed the design on the sleeves, that spoils it. Typical NB, can't just seem to get it right.

Baz.

27 Apr 2017 11:01:37
Ed1, Question for you if you're around. Do you think Ings could score a hatfull if he can overcome his injuries? I have to be honest, I think he's the perfect striker for the system we play and was wondering what you thought?

Thanks.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - yes. I think he is a perfect fit for our system too.}

27 Apr 2017 11:13:35
Do you think he will be able to recover from two significant injuries Ed001? Not only physically, but mentally too, enough to stake a claim in our starting XI? It sounds like we're wanting to sign a forward this summer, so he would be competing with Origi, Firmino and another striker for a start if that's the case.

I really hope he makes it and becomes a top player for us because his attitude and work ethic is admirable.

Your thoughts Ed001?

{Ed001's Note - not immediately no. It will take him a while, but there is no reason why not.}

27 Apr 2017 11:22:40
Very skillful player who has an eye for goal and works very hard up front. He is excellent infront of the goal and his composure is top class. I am really looking forward to see him play.

27 Apr 2017 11:47:08
Left torn, then right acl torn. What is left of a player when u have both knee ligaments torn?

27 Apr 2017 12:43:00
Even worse it that they're repaired by taking a piece from the hamstring so he will be slower than he was too.

27 Apr 2017 12:52:08
Apparently he set himself a target of 'swimming the channel' in the pool and completed it a couple of days ago, Klopp has been incredibly impressed with his attitude while out this season. He may be back in training by 'early pre season', he deserves the best of luck, love to see him scoring goals before the year is out.

27 Apr 2017 13:21:51
Perfect for us. Perfect type player with a perfect attitude!

27 Apr 2017 14:23:09
Heard Ings has started jogging, that's a big start .

27 Apr 2017 14:52:29
Leek - the pcl.

27 Apr 2017 15:21:17
His missus is savage too!

27 Apr 2017 18:41:07
He'd have no chance of recovering if he was someone who relied on pace. But he doesn't - he's intelligent, hard working and has a good touch. None of those should be affected by his injuries long term.

27 Apr 2017 18:38:16
We should give him every opportunity to prove his fitness because when fit, he is pitch perfect for our system and has goals in him. His attitude is also phenomenal.

27 Apr 2017 18:40:53
He's done it before. Start of his career he did the same injuroes then went on to burnley and was fine for a few years until moving to us.

Didn't lose any pace first time round so hopefully gets through this unscaved.

27 Apr 2017 10:23:10
My mates keep banging on about the ox! Sick of it. Does anyone actually want him and see him as an upgrade on I dunno markovic? If rather Marko got a bloody chance!

Believable5 Unbelievable5

27 Apr 2017 11:03:54
He would be a high risk, expensive transfer - in my opinion it would be one to steer well clear of.

27 Apr 2017 11:03:32
OX will represent another similar tale in the transfer window. Buy utility players and play them who ever is injured. I think the club has learned nothing from James Milner who had a better stats than OX in midfield. There is a reason he doesn't get pick ahead of Ramsey, Xhaka, Carzola and many more CM at Arsenal.
Yes ofcourse He Runs all day!

27 Apr 2017 11:14:37
I think he's a great player I think he could be kind of like Sturridge when we got him from Chelsea, not enough games to show his talent just needs a team that will play him week in week out. I think he could kick on with us. Versatile, very quick, decent shot. From watching Arsenal play this season he is the only player I saw that showed any fight. I would get him if there was a chance.

27 Apr 2017 11:27:07
@UEFAlona - mate Xhaka has been awful for Arsenal, slow clogger who contributes very little his signing has been the wrong one for them. Ramsey is great on his day but inconsistent and has serious injury issues. Cazorla is an excellent player but with a different skill set to Oxlaide-Chamberlains. By no means am I saying we should sign him, just pointing out that not getting picked for Arsenal should have no bearing on the reasons for us signing or not signing him.

27 Apr 2017 11:55:06
No-one likes markovic either then?

27 Apr 2017 11:47:49
Gnabry of Bremen or Frank Acheampong of Anderlecht are better buys.

27 Apr 2017 14:57:53
I rate him. Less risk than a player with no premier league experience.

27 Apr 2017 16:05:28
Id rather just take Marko back. If we are looking at ox being a wide player there will be better options plus coming from arsenal we would have to over pay i would imagine unless his contract is up? Furthermore i know he's been okay in the middle for Arsenal but wouldn't put him anywhere near infront of what we have already in terms of a starting line up.

I think he has potential but his career hasn't really progressed Wenger doesn't seem to be a fan of his, never finishes 90 mins and it isn't due to fitness now.

Just see it as very risky (costly also) and probably better alternatives.

Would like to see him do well at Arsenal though.

27 Apr 2017 18:43:18
Markovic might or might not be better, but I would definitely give him a chance before making an expensive utility signing.

27 Apr 2017 18:41:04
Even better, leek. Julian Brandt. As for Ox, the guy is not good enough and won't even start in our first 11 when fit so again, what is he doing here? He's not good enuff and we can definitely do better at a cheaper rate too.

Honestly im with the op and harry on this one, poor attitude for me and not what this team needs. Rather give woodburn and taa the opportunities tbh.

Personally love the new kit. Reminds me of the mid 80s kit I had as a nipper.

As many have mentioned the crest is hideous - rest of it looks tidy though.

Id have liked a white crest on that bad boy. But its a very very tidy kit. Well done NB.

Eds Could one of you answer this question regarding Sahko's injury. Because it looks likely that his injury will see him out well after his loan spell with palace has ended, if Palace don't sign him, who then pays his wages, considering he got injured playing for Palace not Liverpool.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - depends on the insurance policy, because it could well be picked up by the insurance company. Palace would still have him registered as a player though, until the end of the contract, so they would continue to pay the %age they have been.}

27 Apr 2017 09:41:35
Could his injury have an effect on us selling him on mate at the end of season?

{Ed001's Note - yes, he might not be able to pass a medical in the summer.}

27 Apr 2017 08:34:50
Ed01, if you're around. I was wondering if Klopp should give Gomez a chance alongside Matip, can't be worse than Lovren. What do you think? Also, what's the deal with Ojo? Is he injured? Do you see him making it at the club? Thanks!

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - personally I would, but managers are loath to risk an inexperienced player when the stakes are as high as they are currently.

Ojo is still coming back from his bad back injury. It could be another season before we really see him get back to his best. By then it might be too late for him.}

27 Apr 2017 10:43:20
Klopp is guilty in overlooking some youngsters who could have made a difference on the position where he preferred utility played just coz he did not had balls to play them.

People claiming we will have extra CL games next season are fooling themselves. We are certain to be in the group of death and Klopp will not play any youngsters in those games. One reason I am convinced the club will buy at least 6 players in the summer.

I am no big fan of ". play the local or bed the youngsters fan. " But there are some positions which could have been improved by a youngster. Notably wide position and center backs / full backs where we continued to play midfielders and attacking midfielders with no use.

Kevin Stewart and Harry wilson has been the high end victims of Klopp stubbornness!

27 Apr 2017 10:52:07
Whilst the stakes are high, I can't help but feel that the younger less experienced players might have more fight in them than the current first teamers. Gomez and Woodburn should get a chance if you ask me.

27 Apr 2017 11:11:58
@UEFAlona - not sure about Stewart though he certainly could have played instead of Lucas in a couple of games, how much difference that would have made I do not know but, in terms of classing him a youngster? He's 24 in September, think he is simply a squad player.

Wilson could've made a difference, certainly allowed us to keep the team function and strategy similar when Mane was out - as the ED as said managers are reluctant to take risks when the stakes are high, it's a shame they don't have more courage as sometimes it could benefit both the team and the youngsters who are involved.

For me personally I would have replaced Clyne with TAA in October - I have such little faith in C;lyne and his ability that, even if TAA made mistakes, he'd still be miles better IMO.

27 Apr 2017 11:26:20
Seano

I agree mate and I don't know why people think there would be any change in the mentality of the manager next season! CL more pressure to get out form group stages, PL title chase, TOP 4 would be a minimum target. Any Domestic trophy to show. I can't see anyone getting a sniff next season!

27 Apr 2017 16:07:15
Have to agree with Harry here. Klopp's policy of giving youngsters plentiful of chances at least while at LFC is just a myth. How many young players have gone on to establish themselves in the first team? Why were the likes of Wilson and Ojo shunned when Mane was away at AFCON? I have only seen senior players being shifted out of position on a constant basis to accommodate as many first team players as possible. Not only has it affected the productivity of players like Can, Lucas, Origi and Firmino, but also stopped players like Ojo, Gomez TAA and Wilson getting decent opportunities.
Klopp needs to earn his money now. Either step up or leave the job for someone who can actually put earn his wages and win us some titles.

Just wanna show a bit of man love for Ed025. A blue nose he may be, but I love his witty banter and keenness to mix it up a bit. Reminds me a lot of my old man, a blue, but was happy to take me to Anfield as a young lad to see my beloved reds. He also came with me to the 86 and 89 FA cup finals. I'll never forget those train journeys with red and blue all mixed in, singing along. Merseyside, Merseyside, Merseyside.
Footy the way it used to be :)

Believable6 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - agreed, he is a good bloke Ed025, though probably old enough to be your grandad, rather than dad.}

27 Apr 2017 03:18:39
Alot of us obviously ask for the opinions of Ed002 and Ed001 when it comes to transfers and views etc so I thought for a different perspective I'd like to hear ED025's thoughts on the squad for a change. Where do you think we fall short/ need to strengthen etc. And imagine if you were lucky enough to support the red side of the city what would you like to see happen in the summer? I've been reading behind the scenes for a long time and I do enjoy your input. Even if you are the enemy :)

Believable4 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - im not the enemy smallsy just a football fan with a different perspective, the problems with liverpool for me is all about the defence, matip is the only one i would keep out of your back 4 as lovren, klavan and de-clyne are awful, milner i would keep as a utility squad player and migs even though he has been very good lately needs upgrading as hes not a long term answer, you also need a goal scorer as origi is poor and sturridge is an incredibly talented waste of space, someone like lukaku would win you the title with the talent you have in midfield and the chances you create, another wide man would be good but not imperative and i think you have the best manager in the league which helps, the problem is that you dont have the money to fix all this in one go and it will take another couple of seasons for liverpool to be realistic contenders mate but good luck anyway..

27 Apr 2017 10:39:46
Back 5 is a necessity rather than a luxury. Matip could be actually a third choice CB. We need pure class at the back else's we will continue to ship in record number of goals .

Our Full backs are useless and only Klopp knows why he persists with either two.
We have no decent CM. All jack of all trades and spade of none players playing all over the modified making up numbers. End of the day everyone lool up to Coutinho to drop deep and start an attack.
Up front Firmino is class but won't score bough goals for all the little skills he shows up to win the title.

Hate to say but we need more than 6 players all will walk into our first team.

Had Arsenal and UTD were not terrible we would be just above Everton.

27 Apr 2017 10:41:06
i tend to agree with most of that apart from not needing another wide man. Someone who can play on the left and provide assists goals would make our attack more balanced.

But sadly you are right about our defence, its shocking at times. But i have high hopes for gomez coming through next season so he could be a real boon if he continues his recovery. I would be stoked if we could get a lacazette but sadly we don't have the funds or probaby even the interest. We seem to only buy potential rather than the finished article.

It will be an interesting summer depending on whether the players hold their nerve and get top 4.

27 Apr 2017 10:33:05
origi is still quite young and although he has been woeful for a lot of the season has still scored goals, also lukaku, like many of our players, only turn up when the rest of the team is playing well and will not get stuck in in difficult situations.

27 Apr 2017 10:56:20
Great assessment that. A 20+ a season goal scorer with our current squad would certainly put us close to winning the title.

27 Apr 2017 11:19:27
Origi is an enigma for me - he will, on occasion, look unplayable and i'll think 'wow we've got some talent on our hands here' and then for the next 7 games he'll do sod all and get dominated by the opposition, create little and just fade.

I think next season is a crucial season for him - he hasn't shown all that much improvement from last season (in fact you could argue that he has regressed slightly as, at the end of last season, he was really improving and contributing to the team) - he needs to step up in a big way next season, if he doesn't I can see him being replaced.

Will he step up? Very difficult to know given his form this season - if he finds consistency, and the confidence that brings, then he could take off. If not he might find himself moving on.

27 Apr 2017 13:32:34
Agree with seano on Origi, although he is young and relatively inexperienced I do feel he isn't the long term first choice answer so much as a really good back up.

A 20+ goal scorer may have papered over the defensive cracks (chasms? ) but that might mean the defence wouldn't get sorted. Agree with Ed25 only Matip should be playing there next season if the ambition is to improve but unless the scouting has massively changed the money isn't there to achieve that. Only TAA seems to offer a available internally upgrade and how long before the fans would turn on him?

27 Apr 2017 16:16:27
I agree with most of that, Studge i just wish could get a game and get some goals going but it's looking unlikely that will happen much again.

Origi i like but hasn't been that good recently, but his hold up play is pretty good overall.

The only thing i disagree with is 20 a season striker. Although I would love one i don't think it's as important as made out just because we are the highing scoring prem team so it seems we can grab enough goals but ship too many in at the back. That said who knows if we had a striker in top form we might be doing even better in terms of scoring! But just at the back we look like we need a lot of work.

27 Apr 2017 17:41:26
Origi needs to be supported, he is young, still learning his way in life and his position at top level.
He has been off his game a bit more but youngsters usually struggle for consistency. He gives us a good option as a striker, different to others. The question of will he realise his potential only time will tell, but he needs to be supported to keep his confidence while we find out.

27 Apr 2017 08:10:24
Ed025 showing you have your head screwed on again. Have to agree re the back 5, though I'm not sure about Milner past this season. I also agree about a goalscorer, but am somewhat optimistic that Ings can do a job if he gets to fitness. Ah, what I wouldn't give for Suarez to come back : (.

{Ed025's Note - suarez was excellent burkey and almost single handedly won you the league, ings is certainly a grafter mate but i think you may need a bit more quality than him if you are to challenge for top honours..

27 Apr 2017 08:44:39
Interesting Ed25. I don't agree on Lukaku or players in similar mould, but I do agree on the idea that the team might be lacking that finishing edge. Others shouted on the likes of Woodburn and Wilson, in few years time, maybe they are the answer. On the short term, Origi and Sturridge seem not enough. Thanks Ed25.

{Ed025's Note - no problem haizan, i just feel that with the likes of couts, firminho, lallana and mane providing the ammunition that romelu would score a shed load of goals mate..

27 Apr 2017 10:15:15
A very good honest response talking sense! And I don't class you the enemy, Man Utd take that title for me!

{Ed025's Note - im not the enemy welsh, just a straight talking scouser who at times may have a bluish tint in my eye mate.. :)
