26 Nov 2015 23:47:47
Not sure if you seen it on the T. V but there was a point tonight where Klopp was going absolutely ballistic at our boys for passing it back.
Literally screaming furiously at them for going back to migs!
Love that. A manager who hates boring football he wants to attack and you won't see us passing it around at the back like under Rodgers. Can't get enough of the man he's brilliant.
A win is a win. Bring on Swans.

Believable14 Unbelievable0

27 Nov 2015 02:07:10
He said after the City game, that he doesn't like it when we pass back to Mingo because to him, that stops us from actually playing football. Very smart guy.

Agree6 Disagree0

27 Nov 2015 06:14:00
I always complained about us passing back, not jsut to Ming also to other defenders. It is a real issue for us in many games. Other teams push the ball forward and if worse come to worse lose the ball. We seem to be over confident with the ball so if we don;t have a pass forward that 100% reach our player we always play back and we will pay for it eventually. That is the main difference when Sakho is playing, he will always send the ball forward. With Lovern, it seems his first option is always to pass to the keeper.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Nov 2015 08:47:09
Fanobip.

Have you ever thought why we keep passing backwards?
One main reason is lack of midfielders willing to drop and collect the pass. Defenders need options ahead of them.

You need to watch Carzola Play for Arsenal.

Agree0 Disagree1

26 Nov 2015 22:11:55
Even though it doesn't feel like it, we won. hopefully it gives the team more confidence.
I hate that referee, just slapping yellow cards all over the pitch and stopping the game every five minute. And what was that indirect free kick for. I used to think that yellow card is given if a player is wasting too much time.
Anyways all that's well that ends well. We achieved what we set out to do, although rather unconvincingly!

Believable3 Unbelievable1

26 Nov 2015 22:38:38
I thought it was a good refereeing maybe other than the penalty that was very soft but at least he was consistent when disallowing Benteke's goal for physical contact. The yellow cards were deserved and so was the indirect kick. A GK can hold the ball 10 secs and then has to release it. It is not enforceable on the second but he literally held it for 20 secs.

Agree0 Disagree9

26 Nov 2015 22:49:58
The rule is the rule. Six seconds is the rule. Mingo held the ball for TWENTY ONE seconds. What GK worth his salt does that and thinks he can get away with it? because it's not normally whistled as a foul doesn't make it any less a foul and a free kick inside the box. To make matters worse, he stands behind the wall for the free kick. What the heck? Mingo is to blame for that goal, completely. Stop having a go at the ref for applying the law. If Mingo needs to be told where to be during a free kick and/or to kick the ball long when no passing options are available then Grobelaar is right, he should be sold ASAP.

Agree6 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - It's one of my pet hates that the six second rule isn't enforced, that and players blatantly obstructing an opposition player to let the ball run out for a throw-in or a goal-kick - oh and the amount of foul throw-ins that go unpunished is ridiculous.}

26 Nov 2015 23:06:23
It's not time wasting, the keepers only supposed to get 6 seconds with the ball in his hands, first minute or last.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Nov 2015 23:24:51
I think it now opens up a world where every referee should be counting. The moment you punish this once you have to enfore it every time for me. The ref should have let it play on, there was 0 advantage being gained.
If you're going to blow for this, you will pretty much have to blow up everytime a player stand in front of a keeper at a corner for obstruction, every time a ball doesn't gov over the head at a throw in or have its original trajectory as upwards, every time players in the champions league and prem in a tight game take the ball to the corner and don't have their foot on it, nor is the ball moving, is once again obstruction.

Migs sure, probably kick it early, but I've seen plenty of keeper hold onto it for longer, especially after corners when they wait for all the players to run past them and assess the options. Daft call from the ref. He kind of pigeon holed himself into a corner and thus had to give the penalty which many would have let go when Benteke was held.

Agree0 Disagree5

{Ed007's Note - You would think guys getting paid £1000's a week could follow the most basic and simple rules of the game though. If refs started clamping down on things they will soon stop, from the 6 second rule to diving and shirt-pulling.
You have to admit that 21 seconds is seriously ripping the hole out of it.}

27 Nov 2015 00:26:51
I agree fully with the ref.

Agree6 Disagree0

27 Nov 2015 02:12:44
The ref gave Mingo every opp to release the ball but did not. 21 seconds? You must be taking the mick, then. The rule is the rule and if Mingo is too daft to do the most fundamental off all things at the GK position, then he should be sacked.

Agree1 Disagree0

27 Nov 2015 07:39:50
The ref had every right to give a free kick, Mignolet was being rediculous and that's me being generous. And to compound it mignolet messes up both the wall and his positioning. At the end of the day though its a moot point, we won the game and hopefully ge learns from his mistakes. Happy days.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I don't understand how anyone can complain about that free kick, the referee was being more than fair by giving him an extra ten or more seconds. For me Migs is lucky we were able to turn it around and get the win or he would be getting slaughtered for that stupidity.}

27 Nov 2015 08:14:51
I don't think any one complained about the ref, I just think if you're going to be that stringent on one thing, you have to be stringent on everything. I've seen keepers (especially cech) hold onto it for much longer than 21 seconds, just a bit of concistency would be nice in rule enforcement. Especially when it's that factual to enforce.

Agree0 Disagree1

26 Nov 2015 22:03:26
Hoping the scan for the sturridge injury is just a precaution, reckon klopp thought there was no need to risk him so just didn't risk him tonight.

Believable1 Unbelievable7

26 Nov 2015 22:39:33
That's a lot of wishful thinking. I hope it is not serious but he complained about discomfort in his foot.

Agree1 Disagree0

26 Nov 2015 23:18:52
My 10 year old has a bigger pain threshold than sturridge.

Agree7 Disagree5

27 Nov 2015 01:40:12
Is he deliberately not playing for Klopp or something. Two or Three times now he has had a "injury" on the day he supposed to be in the squad. He should just give it in, do nothing but rehab and work in the gym until next season.

Agree2 Disagree4

27 Nov 2015 09:12:53
Always the way with injury prone people ( like myself) over compensating on different muscles to try and get back to fitness. It will be with him for the rest of his career.

For all those saying we need to get rid of Sturridge ; we used to have this thing called The Liverpool Way.

He's one of us. YNWA.

Believable14 Unbelievable9

26 Nov 2015 22:04:43
There also comes a point where enough is enough and you have to be ruthless.

He's one of us? At the moment. If he was playing week in week out, doing well and a [ahem] bigger club came in he'd be off like the rest.

It's laughable now, past ridiculous. I don't care what the Eds say it's got to be psychological. It's seems now it only has to lead up to a game for him to get 'injured' rather than in a match itself.

That said, who's going to take him. Gutting really because what a talent.

Agree8 Disagree8

26 Nov 2015 22:19:40
Shanks was ruthless when he had to be, as was Sir Bob. The Liverpool way is respect where respect is due.

Agree9 Disagree1

26 Nov 2015 22:31:01
I really feel for the lad. Wish him a speedy recovery. Class player.

Agree10 Disagree0

26 Nov 2015 22:40:50
I think the solution will have to be to pay him by games.

Agree6 Disagree2

26 Nov 2015 22:45:18
I can't help but think that these types of comments are due to Gerrards book (pre Man U game) .

Let's see if you lot that want him gone change your tune when he's back. Same lot that want Coutinho gone.

Tip : The word you're looking for is fickle.

Agree4 Disagree9

26 Nov 2015 22:51:59
Its not like he can help it John!

Agree3 Disagree2

26 Nov 2015 22:54:46
Studge is currently irrelevant and of no use to us because he is made of paper mache. It is not an insult to state a fact which is that he can't stay fit and if this continues, the club will have a decision to make. Sorry to burst your bubble, Clarky but that is professional sports. If you can't stay healthy and get on the pitch, you're no use to the club and off you go at some point. I suggest you get used to that real quick or you'll be in tears for no reason if or when that happens.

Agree7 Disagree1

26 Nov 2015 23:07:27
Kinda get the point, the wages is a downside but people starting to say he's not trying is bad, he obviously wants to play.

Agree5 Disagree3

26 Nov 2015 23:40:59
He's on massive wages. That money could be going to a striker who plays and scores goals it's as simple as that.

Agree6 Disagree0

27 Nov 2015 01:39:33
if the lad has been physically assessed by professional doctors to be not fit for sevice, then so be it.

It is what it is, the 'so called fans' should be behind the lad 100% in his recovery, and when '100 %' fit jurgen klopp will put him In his plans as he sees fit to do so

How can anyone come on here and bitch about him? People with absolutely no idea of sports science, sports psychology or any form of how the body actually works moaning and bitching about the lad, who wants to do nothing but play football for Liverpool football club needs to give there head a wobble.

You are coming on this site, which is meant to be for proper footy fans, and showing yourselves up to be nothing but spoilt little armchair supporters with nothing to do than play that stupid Xbox game and watch sly sports

I am absolutely baffled how the two editors, who put so much effort into site with no reward, have to put up with this imbecile stuff day in and day out, when all they want to create is a forum that presents a togetherness of LFC, and the Liverpool way and what it used to present, to the good honest working class people of Liverpool, and all Liverpool fans, scousers or not

Daniel Sturridge is a Liverpool player, if you can't support him through what he is going through. then walk alonfe.

Agree5 Disagree5

{Ed007's Note - 2 EDITORS!!! It's 01:43 and I've been online for over 12 hours today... That's a yellow card mate - you need to spread the love :)

27 Nov 2015 01:57:46
Sorry ED007 lad, but these so called Liverpool fans bashing one of there own is not something that is just not acceptable

Funny enough my wife is Glaswegian (Cardonauld) and a massive hoops fan, and when I show her the comments she is appauled too.

Agree1 Disagree3

{Ed007's Note - Oooft I bet you don't mess with her!}

27 Nov 2015 02:07:33
EDS007.a scouser and a Glaswegian? . what could possibly go wrong?

But yes, the trousers are hers, I think that was in the weddings vows, I think her Irish cousins wrote them 🙈.

27 Nov 2015 03:13:13
Top banter eds7 and Kemlynroad!

My piece on Studge, want the lad fit and playing for the redmen. I'm not happy with the studge bashing we are better fans than that. I myself got a pretty bad injury at 15 and never been the same again but mentally you get a block, if you feel a knock or twinge you want to stop not to make it any worse. That said sometimes you have to just get on with it and get past the mental block!

The lads class in form whatever has happened to him hope he sorts it out ASAP!

Agree2 Disagree0

27 Nov 2015 07:45:48
Its not bashing to point out the facts. He is currently being paid to not play football. Lfc are not a club with the financial power to sustain that long term.

Regardless of the reasons for his constant injuries it is almost certain that the club will look to offload him if an opportunity arises to do so.

Allen looks like the Welsh Pirlo.

Believable1 Unbelievable4

26 Nov 2015 20:24:55

Agree9 Disagree1

26 Nov 2015 21:34:16
Can't watch the game, but I just read Allen had a standing ovation when he came off? Was that genuine or plain irony? Hopefully the former.

Agree4 Disagree5

26 Nov 2015 21:39:46
Why?

Another player turning some. sort of corner for us and showing some form. Its only going to benefit us isn't it!

Agree11 Disagree0

26 Nov 2015 21:56:25
That's why I said former not latter. I hope he proves the doubters wrong.

Agree2 Disagree0

26 Nov 2015 22:06:26
Errr no they were applauding Can coming on from where i was watching! He did nothing and has turned no corners at all.

Agree2 Disagree8

26 Nov 2015 22:18:32
My bad south lad!

Agree1 Disagree1

26 Nov 2015 22:31:58
Don't really see what Allen offers, but he had a decent game.

Agree1 Disagree1

26 Nov 2015 22:46:30
Have to say I was one to stand and clap Allen when he went of😳.

Agree1 Disagree1

26 Nov 2015 22:58:49
Meeowers, that's a bit harsh on the boy. I m one of his biggest critics but I have to admit that Allen had a very solid game. He won the ball well, made decent passes, got forward a times and got stuck in on the tackle. Saying the standing ovation was for Can is just moral dishonesty at its worst. Lay off the lad.

Agree8 Disagree0

26 Nov 2015 23:17:42
They applauded Allen off the pitch, put in a lot of work. Won the ball back more than anyone else, that little flick over the head and through ball to Firmino as well. A step in the right direction if anything.

Agree7 Disagree0

27 Nov 2015 00:24:01
He got a good round of applause.

Not from me though, if he wasn't passing it back he was giving the ball away or making hospital passes.

First out the door after Mingolet for me.

Agree3 Disagree5

27 Nov 2015 07:49:33
Tbf the crown were stood up the whole game so they made no special effort to get out their seats or anything. All the same its no problem for them to show appreciation for one of their player's.

I have to say i was a little miffed by the attitude of the crowd when we were winning in the second half. If the bordeux fans were not there u could literally have heard a pin drop.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Nov 2015 09:58:04
Maybe some thought I was harsh on Allen and fair play but I honestly thought the ovation was ironically for Can replacing him, maybe I was wrong, look, he's not good enough, he ALWAYS plays backwards which we know Klopp doesn't want, we know he's a poor tackler, he's not quick and he doesn't score goals, so what does he do? all these who want to support the team and Allen because he's one of ours fine I get it, But its not being a poor fan pointing out where we could Improve, the keeper will get replaced I've no doubt and I personally think come next year the whole squad will have a different look to it, and so it should, I still think we have this habit of dropping back to the Rodgers way for spells and the sooner its gone and all the players are onboard fully with the new system the better in my book.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Nov 2015 20:09:17
Apparently Sturridge injured yet again? . recurrence of the same injury or something new?

Anyone confirm and or add more details.

Believable6 Unbelievable0

26 Nov 2015 20:24:53
It has been confirmed by the club that he is out due a foot injury and would have a scan tomorrow.

Agree3 Disagree0

26 Nov 2015 21:03:50
Not serious though eds is it?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - no one knows until he has a scan.}

27 Nov 2015 01:54:29
Last time someone had a foot injury was Hendo and he had to be out for 3 months. Sturridge will be out for the season then. Might as well start giving Sinclair game time.

Agree2 Disagree0

27 Nov 2015 07:01:56
Its a new pair of socks and he hasn't worked the weave structure out yet, so it's causing a bit of pressure towards the ankle area apparently.

Agree0 Disagree1

26 Nov 2015 20:06:50
So Studge now has a foot injury? I feel for the lad but this has moved into the farcical stage.

Believable11 Unbelievable1

26 Nov 2015 23:21:15

27 Nov 2015 06:56:19
Only bnanter your pathetic!

Agree3 Disagree0

26 Nov 2015 19:57:26
As much as i like sturridge and wish he wasnt made of glass i feel it must be time we moved him on now.
We losing £££££££ on him every week when we could be paying a fit striker to score goals.
Its such a shame he's lethal when fit 😦.

Believable10 Unbelievable4

26 Nov 2015 20:12:46
Not only is he lethal when fit, he is so good on the ball and his all round game there are few better strikers in europe than him when he is fit.

Unfortunately not only are his injury problems bordering on hilarity and are an actual joke, i'm beginning to seriously think his head is the problem, not his body.

Top players like suarez, ronaldo, messi, how many times do they get injured. Never. They all also work incredibly hard on their fitness.

Im starting to believe that either sturridge's injuries and niggles are all in his head, and that he needs to man up as carragher said, or he isn't looking after himself properly or training hard enough.

Either way, its becoming a joke. If this injury is anything more than a matter of days then i wouldn't be surprised if his position is under serious doubt.

Agree8 Disagree6

26 Nov 2015 20:32:51
Messi is only back from injury.

Agree4 Disagree1

26 Nov 2015 22:05:23
Knew someone would say that.

It doesn't take a genius to see that his injury record ovèr his career is relatively excellent. Week in week out scoring goals.

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Sssshhhh You're not allowed to talk about that!}

26 Nov 2015 22:15:29
Well said Dom and for the record I doubt anyone is more frustrated than sturridge. Hope its nothing major.

Agree2 Disagree0

26 Nov 2015 19:54:05
Apparently Sturridge isn't in the squad today due to a new foot injury. If true I really don't know what to say, It's got to the stage where his problems are verging on hilarity and seems like a bad joke : (

Believable6 Unbelievable1

26 Nov 2015 20:06:52
It is a joke, Sturridge gets injured just tying his boot laces.
Get rid asap, and bring in some width, to compliment Benteke, and the numerous No10 players we have. Then add Ings at the back end of the season, happy days.
Would personally like Bolasie, but not for more than £15m.

Agree3 Disagree9

27 Nov 2015 02:23:22
Bolasie? Really? Have you seen him play? He is aweful and the fact that we have had no idea how to play against him doesn't change that. No technique, poor touch, poor skill. All he has is pace and a powerful shot which very rarely hits the target. The guy confuses himself and the whole viewing public whenever he has the ball because even he doesn't know what he's going to do when he gets it and you wanna pay 15m for him? Thank heavens, you don't make the transfer decisions at the club.

Agree3 Disagree2

27 Nov 2015 06:21:59
Bolasie continues to rip our defence every time he plays against us, and provides loads of assists for Palace. Has pace, power, and is great at providing a searching cross.
Decent player, and quite frankly, the last time we had a decent winger, was McManaman.
He would definitely suit Klopps style, but hey, we won't all agree on here will we.

Agree0 Disagree1

27 Nov 2015 10:53:33
Bolasie does not provide loads of assists.
His goals and assists numbers are actually quite average.
Just because he continually troubles our defence doesn't mean he's great. Our defence has just been poor.
He's 26 now and not going to get a whole lot better. His end product is generally poor.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I really don't get the love in for Bolasie. He troubles everyone, but his actual effectiveness is very low. He does some fantastic things, but usually in 99.9% of cases, he follows it up by giving the ball away.}

26 Nov 2015 19:49:29
Looks like I jinxed sturridge after saying I would love to see him up front fully fit how we played against city. Or is it a clever ploy from the club and perhaps we only brought him for medical research.

Believable11 Unbelievable0

26 Nov 2015 19:37:45
Absolute joke with Sturridge, klopp said he's trained 8/9 times in an interview the other day, and on the bench for city, must have been close, and now he's got a scan on his foot. got to feel for him though.

Believable3 Unbelievable1

26 Nov 2015 19:45:44
Is this right eds?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - that he is out of the squad and going for a scan? Unless someone is lying within the club, then yes it is true. Poor lad is having no luck, but this often happens after a long term injury, that minor niggles keep happening. That is why ACL injuries tend to take so long to return from, returning to fitness is a longer, more difficult road than recovering from the injury itself nowadays.}

26 Nov 2015 19:53:14
You do wonder how much of it is mental with him.

Agree6 Disagree2

26 Nov 2015 20:18:01
I don't think a foot injury would be that mental, I doubt he's riding hard tackles in training anyway.

Agree4 Disagree2

27 Nov 2015 02:29:18
Fornax, how do you know that? Did he tell you or are you just insinuating he is frustrated? You don't know that for sure so I'll pay no attention to the substance of your comment. What we DO know per Ed01, is that his knees are shot and that his lifestyle needs to change. So if you have any info to debunk what the Ed has said, I'm all years. If you don't, you're the one talking out of your backside.

Agree0 Disagree1

27 Nov 2015 03:28:04
Ligament injuries are pretty awful for anyone, i know being keen on footy and rupturing my ATFL honestly some games its fine and others literally kicking the ball can pull it slightly and i know not to carry on because it will get worse. It becomes a mental thing then half of the time!

It's hard really to get out of thinking negatively or cautiously towards it sometimes!

Hope that lad all the best with it.

Hello Reds, quick question for everyone and in particular ed001; when Hendo is fit again, does he take Milners role or Cans?

I personally reckon it should be Milners, i have no hate for him because he does put in 110% but his performances haven't even been decent recently and i reckon Hendo can play his role much better but then there is the part of Milners role that requires him to push out wide at times and i would much rather see Hendo be given a chance to play as our main central midfielder which is why i wouldn't mind too much if Can was dropped for him either although he has been playing better than Milner imo.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - depends on what system we go with. I would play Hendo central, no matter what, in games requiring two central, then Hendo would be one and Milner wide, in games with three central, then Can would replace Milner.}

27 Nov 2015 03:14:07
Do you reckon Can could play in that wide position though ed? Dunno whether he has the discipline or stamina to be constantly bombing forward and tracking back not to mention that his final ball isn't the best and with Benteke up there I'd rather we have somebody who can at least get the ball relatively close to him.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - not for me, well he could, but not well enough to make a move out there make sense over putting someone else out there.}

Anyone else missing the podcasts? Any chance of a return ed? Benny?

Is it because we haven't the same doom and gloom? I would like to listen to you two happy with the way things are now. instead of the Rodgers crap tactics analysis. A breakdown of kl oops weekly offering would be great :D.

Heard yesterday's comments from Lovren, but then watched the interview today. thought he was mighty impressive and his desire and passion really came across. Think Mark Lawrenson is right, with a talker at the side of him I think he'll come good.
Also, so please for Moreno, just needs to cut out that momentary lapse of concentration then he'll be a huge asset.
Thoughts.

Believable5 Unbelievable0

26 Nov 2015 14:17:32
For me Lovren's nerves cause him to make mistakes. He makes some quite odd decisions like vs Westham when he kept the ball inplay then go dispossessed, I don't think he's particularly strong at passing or control. I just don't see a centreback there that really fills me with confidence. He has improved his covering, clearances, and has finally stopped passing it to and fro with Skrtel but, nothing I have ever seen from him screams quality to me. With Sakho out, and under klopp I hope he proves me wrong, but I don't think he will.

I actually really like Moreno at the moment. I wasn't too impressed last year, and thought Bertrand would have improved us for much cheaper, BUT he's come back into the squad and gets forward a lot and helps out coutinho by providing an overlap and width. He has a work ethic that sees him get up and down, and I liked his passing at the back with Sakho. however I still see those lapses you mention at times when he doesn't quite pay attention to his winger, or go with his weak foot to clear it, giving the player time to get in. I think he's come on a fair bit since last year though.

For the record I know a lot of people blamed him for the Palace goal, thinking he chickened out of a challenge but I actually think he was trying to snatch the ball away and get an attack started. I don't mind that kind of thinking sadly it just didn't pay off at that time and we conceded.

Agree1 Disagree0

26 Nov 2015 14:59:32
So you heared him speak and you decided that he could be a good player? I watched someone from our academy the other week kicking some great freee kicks, I think he can be a really good politician.

This is not against Lovern just the logic of the argument although I am still not sure about him and not sure if a talker near him is the main problem.

Agree1 Disagree0

26 Nov 2015 16:49:04
Loren has always been a bag of nerves and mistakes since his Lyon days which is why they got shot of him as soon as the chance came. At Southampton, he had a good system under Koeman as well as a leader in Fonte next to him which made him look good but he is still what he is, a mistake waiting to happen due rushes of blood to the brain that only he can explain. It's a shame because he has all the tools to be the modern CB. Pace, power, strength, two footed, can pass out the back, good header of the ball, and deadly at set pieces. Will he improve under Klopp? I hope so even tho I doubt it will happen.

Probably, for me, kewell and Hyypia.

haha I was just going off my own personal knowledge 001,I hadn't heard much of Alonso but when I first saw him in action I was gobsmacked. I just want to say - many times people here slate the Liverpool fans despite the fact that I personally think are quite patient and become very enthusaistic with an slight sign of improvement.

Compare that to the United fans. Their manager took them after the most awful season in decades, next season took them to the CL, where they are still very likely to qualify to the next stage, they are second in the league behind Leicester with a very good chance (painful for me to say it but true) to win the title. Very solid defensively, some amazing singings in Martial and I think also Depay, Blind ad others, were luckiest int he world to keep one of the best goal keepers in the world agaisnt his will and they moan as if they are fighting relegation just because they don't score three goals ever week. I still can't forget that United fan who called 606 when Moyce was in charge and said he was burining his season ticket or soemthing. The most spoiled fan base ever.

Liverpool were annoyed when we were playing poorly and not getting results. If I were a united fan I'd be pissed off, they were dire last night and have been before. Regardless of league position, football is a hobby, you want to be entertained, not bored for 90 minutes, and United have the right to expect that.

Agree0 Disagree2

26 Nov 2015 17:29:06
Fano, u are in the minority in that dept. They might be second and yes, I would like to be where they are but not the way they got there. They've been bang average bordering on aweful since LVG got there and only made top 4 last year because a) the PL is becoming poor in standard and b) because all the other teams were so inconsistent that they made it by default. Imagine, they made top 4 despite not winning any of their last SIX games of the season. That would never have happened in 2010. Their perfs will only get worse and this time, they won't enjoy the good fortune they enjoyed Last season, IMO.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Nov 2015 07:17:33
Ed001 I read don the page about how youth academy's work from yourself (Or don't as you pointed out to some posters) . Any chance you could write an article about how they work best if you have the time as I love learning about that kind of thing. Un-related a touch but on FM16 I focus a lot on youth development even have Borrell as my H. O. Y. D and Angel vales as my opposition analysis :)

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I will do something on that. Thank you mate, that is a good idea for an article.}

26 Nov 2015 07:31:49
Was angel vales opo analysis under rafa btw ed?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - he was a coach while at Liverpool. His actual title, if I remember it correctly, was technique coach. If I am remembering correctly, his appointment was a direct reaction to the failures of the Houllier regime, where players techniques got worse over time, rather than improved.}

26 Nov 2015 07:13:58
Just a quick question for all those people with no clue about youth development and who think it is simply a case of getting as many as possible in the door, in order to increase the chances of a top class player miraculously appearing of his own accord. If it is simply about that, why are Liverpool reducing the numbers in their youth teams for this season and going forward into the future? Surely the 'stats' you were talking about mean they need more youth players in the academy not less? Or could it be that there is more to it than just bare numbers?

Believable5 Unbelievable0

26 Nov 2015 07:29:24
So abit like kids in school, Less kids in class the more the teacher can devote time to improve the student, Whih then produces better results.

Agree6 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - correct mate. More coaches to players equals better results at the end. That is why England suffers so badly, there is a much higher ratio of qualified football coaches per player in the top footballing nations. Those coaches do more than just instruct, they devote time and attention, which improves a youngsters mentality, as they feel more valued and so work harder.}

26 Nov 2015 10:12:29
Yeah if you want to increase how many kids you have at the academy to improve your chances of finding a gem then you need to increase the amount of coaches you have and probably invest a lot in better and expanded facility's as well.
Not to mention making sure all these extra young players have a clear path into the first team or a decent loan club to go to develop.
That the hard part I think, how do you ensure all these youngsters get game time?
It's not just a numbers game.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Nov 2015 10:46:51
Ed, you probably don't want to talk about this any longer but I think you've misunderstood the point I was trying to make. Clearly coaching, environment, education and discipline are all vital, I don't think you sweep up a random bunch of kids, stick them on a football pitch every other day and hope for the best.

My point was about expectations. There are 92 academies of professional clubs in England who are all looking to find that special kid who will either bring greatness to the club or help finance it for a few more years.

But this entire system produces, on average, maybe 4 or 5 top quality players a year and that's been the case for a long time. These players are more likely to be produced by certain academies than others but even if Liverpool were one of those we'd be doing well to produce one every 5 years.

We haven't produced a truly class player in 17 years and that's an aberration. I know you believe that certain players could/should have made it at the top level were miss-managed and this is the area you and I disagree on. For me the academy has had a steady output of good players but, in recent years, no great ones.

Could this situation be improved, yes and we should always strive to do so, but in the future it's not a realistic expectation to have more than 2-3 established first team players who graduated from the academy. This is where the statistics come in, a good system will ensure that potential stars aren't lost through the cracks but if you don't have the potential coming through the door to begin with you've got no chance.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - who on earth said they expected more than 2-3 established first team players to come through the academy? The idea is that each class produces players who can be sold for a profit, and one to go in the team. You are again making no point. Nobody is expecting 18 squad members to come through the academy, nobody has said they expect that, so why are you even trying to make it into an issue? Basically you are saying that you are making no point, using numbers that are meaningless to make no point, to waste everyone's time.}

26 Nov 2015 11:36:05
Half the posters on this site Ed, including you. Wisdom, Rossiter, Brannagan, Sinclair, Chirivella, Ojo, Kent, not to mention Teixeira, Ward, Ilori and Markovic (youth not Academy players) are constantly on these pages as future stars of Liverpool. I'd love it if they all turned out to be brilliant but if someone offered me 3-1 odds that less than three of these guys would still be on Liverpool's books in three years time I'd bite your hand off.

Agree1 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - don't talk crap. We are talking about finding out if they have the ability, rather than just leaving it as potential ability until it is too late. No one is saying we expect them all to make it. This is pathetic. You are just making up reasons to have a dig at other people over things only you believe. No wonder you were such a staunch supporter of Bodgers, you are deluded. Not one person has said they expect the team to be made up of youth academy prospects. So you are just picking a fight over nothing. This is almost as stupid as your support of Rodgers was.}

26 Nov 2015 12:27:18
Ed, you've advocated first team roles, not just potential, first team roles for Teixeira, Ward, Wisdom, and Chirivella, that's in just a 5 year age group. I imagine if I looked in the archive there'd be more. I'm pointing out that you have an unrealistic expectation of the ability of our academy graduates.

Why is this important? Because you get angry, disappointed and defensive when the one's you back get dropped, you lose any sort of impartiality on the subject, look how you've responded to this thread? You've made every excuse under the sun for Ilori, from bad loans, lies by the management or just incompetent coaches who can't be trusted to evaluate his ability. Not once have you given any credence to the idea that he's just not good enough which is by far the most likely reason he can't even make the bench of the bottom club of the premiership.

Anybody who challenges your views gets dismissed as delusional or has scorn poured on them no matter how much the evidence suggests you're wrong. You have a go because I supported Rodgers but this is the exact reason why I think you and others were wrong in your assessment of him. He got rid of players that you had an over-inflated opinion of and you hated him for it.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - what are you talking about? Liar is the word I am thinking is right for you. Not once have I said they should be definite first choice, I have said they should be given a chance, so you are lying. Straight out lies. I do not have these expectations you are making out at all. I am saying they should be given the chance to prove if they are good enough, rather than being dismissed out of hand like your beloved loser who preceded Klopp did.

The annoyance in this thread is because you are a liar and making up lies and being an absolute moron with false claims about me. You are the reason I am annoyed, not the players being left out or sidelined or playing below any expectations you are making up. Excuses? I have made no excuses for Ilori, I have pointed out that we can't judge him until he is given a chance. You are again lying because you can't accept that your beloved Bodgers was failing the club. He was given crap loans, he was told lies by Rodgers, as were many others. I don't know where you got the bull about it being incompetent coaching, that is just you making up more lies in your head.

As for hating him, I never once hated Rodgers. You are acting like a pathetic 5 year old with a grudge because your beloved Rodgers was booted for failing the club. What players did he get rid of that I had an overinflated opinion of? More lies from you. You are making stufff up and it is pathetic. If you spent so much time and effort supporting the club and its players instead of the previous manager that got sacked for failing, we would all be better off.}

26 Nov 2015 14:58:33
You said you'd be happy with Ward in goal, you've said we didn't need Clyne when we had Wisdom, you've said you'd replace Allen with Chirivella. Having checked I will concede you said you wanted Teixeira to have a run in the first team which is different to advocating him a place but it hardly smacks of lieing.

Ed001's Note - the defence is the weak point for me, I would be happy with Ward in goal

Right back is a worry for me, Wisdom I like, but I still remain unconvinced by Clyne

{Ed001's Note - Kolo is much more mobile than Allen, so that makes little sense as a reasoning to use him instead of Kolo. Branagan is not a holding midfielder, it would be Chirivella for that role from the youth teams. }.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - and what does that prove? That you need to get out more, because it shows nothing else other than that. Show me where I say they should be first choice for the future, rather than where I say I would be happy to see them given a go. Oh wait you can't show that because it never happened.

This is embarrassing, not quite as embarrassing as your pitiful attempt at statistical analysis, but close. You need to get out more, and stop crying over the sacking of your beloved Rodgers. He is gone, he failed miserably, move on and get a life please.}

I would have more joy teaching a 5 year old why Einstein got his thinking on quantam entanglement wrong than teaching you statistical analysis or even how to read and understand what has been said.}

26 Nov 2015 00:25:51
As they say, you get lies, damn lies and statistics. I think apart from the odd exception, most academies will have enough pool of talented youngsters to develop a few potential CL or PL candidates a year, the trick is

1) getting their learning curve right and ensuring the coaching is good enough/personalised enough while still covering a big enough pool
2) one of the biggest factors will be the players own commitment, and their own willingness to work hard, continue to learn and not get distracted by success (or lost when they face challenges)
3) a structured system to help them bridge the gap from youth to first team, very few can jump immediately so you need them placed with teams that will play them and continue their learning curve rather than stalling their career.

Im pretty sure one of the eds once said (correct me if i'm wrong eds! )

It's also down to attitude of the player, as the step up from reserves to first team isn't as big sometimes as people make out and its more the attitude of the player i'm guessing to getting used to first team football and working at fulfilling the role in which they are deployed, mentally staying strong if they make a mistake rather than sinking away and fall into a poor performance due to one error! Wanting to improve their own game and working on aspects of their own game outside of given training?

Guessing stuff along those lines.
