Stewart clowning is crap. Just thought I'd say it. Now I feel loads better. I can sleep now.
FowlerisGod

Maybe, but dont blame downing for not being good enough blame dalglish and comolli for sanctioning 20 million pounds to buy him

I think downing would still have been a decent player to date if he had stayed with villa. The 20 million price tag seems to have deflated his confidence after his poor start. All down to commolli n dalglish, even henderson has wasted away coz of their stupidness. Never pay big money for british players, coz the price tag gets to them.
Indian Buzzer

Never pay big money for british players cause nearly all of em aint good enough even citeh got burned with there english buys

I think we should get balotelli from city and maybe try get nani from united as he would be better at us. we would be a force to be rekoned with then. balotelli is gd and not gettin many games but we wud start him and same with nani but he is gd and jus needs a new club to get him goin. if not balotelli tho then maybe dzeko

YNWA_lob

Balotelli is a young italian Emile Heskey, completely overated and draws way too much negative media attention

I think if someone could tame him he would be top notch .... But how do you tame that in fairness

"If you look around the Premier League there are some terrific talents like Hatem Ben Arfa, but [Raheem's] right up there in that bracket." It's probably been mentioned, but Premier League managers are usually hyper aware of what they're saying to the press. Obviously Rodgers rates Ben Arfa (As most all managers would), but perhaps he was making his feelings known publicly to pique the interest of the player. No way we could get him in January, but could you see us going for him in the summer? Perfect to play wide in a front 3 and proven in the Prem.

26 Nov 2012 22:12:20
Forget Tello, Cavani, Walcott BR has only got the 4 million he had left from the summer transfer kitty when he failed in landing Dempsey, to spend in January.

Get ready for the Suarez to leave rumours, as FSG show no signs of putting anymore money into the squad, not before selling players first and foremost...

Wizards sleeve

You can buy class players for 4 million from other leagues - just look at Assaidi - Less that 3 million. We could have got Jackson Martinez for around 6 million. There is talent out there we just have to take that small gamble and go out and get them and I believe Rodgers is the guy to do that.

BthekingB

Assiadi europa league star

Michu, jelovic, Martinez all come to mind.

Players we could get get and players we could afford to lose in January...

Out..

Reina - Arsenal (12m)
Downing - Arsenal (Swap for Walcott)
Cole - Free to QPR
Doni - Released

In..

Friedel - Spurs (500k)
Walcott - (Swap for Downing)
Sturridge - Chelsea (8m)
Rossi - Villarreal (Loan with view to permanent)

Reina seems to need a new challenge and is the highest paid keeper in the PL. Friedel is a risk-free replacement who buys us time to recruit a younger number one. Downing-Walcott deal not as daft as it seems - Arse want to get rid of Arshavin and in Ox have ready-made replacement on right for Walcott. Sturridge a long-term target and with Theo would guarentee more goals. Rossi worth a gamble on loan to prove his fitness and link up with fellow Italian striker Fabio. All three forwards can play wide or central.

Why would arsenal want downing? Personally I don't rate Walcott but should bottom half prem team at best

Spoke to Joe Cole earlier today in Revoloution down the Albert dock (he was having a coffee by the way) and he said Brendan Rodgers is on a par with Mourinho and said that we need to be patient and give him time because great things are happening.

BR is certainly on a par with Mourinho when it comes to loving the sound of his own voice.

BR can't be on a par with the Special One. Mourinho won stuff. BR has won nowt. Even AVB has an illustrious record in comparison. Jmac

Porto took a chance on Mourinho then AVB?

Yes Im one of Rafa's disciples and will never forget the way he took on the tumours singlehandedly (Hicks, Gillette, Purslow etc) and steered our club through shi* creek without a paddle many times for his beloved Liverpool. We all owe him a debt of gratitiude! But im not blinkered enough to realise he made errors Robbie Keane, Alonso etc but no one deserves the vitriol that he got from those imbeciles and persons on Sunday! They really are a bunch of vile cretins and I hope that Rafa wins them the league and walks out on them! In other news...If we had beaten the teams we played of the park this season and had that everton injury time goal allowed we would have been in a champions league place..

SoBe Red

He deserves everything he gets - the man who never made a mistake, and blamed everyone else for his stand out failings - he was given plenty of money, wasted most of it, and played the worst football I've seen a Liverpool team has played since our second division days.

Good bloody riddance to him - don't think Inter would want him back, and Chelsea will rue the day.

John B

John B are you forgetting the Houllier and Hodgson days? Rafa's football started off woeful to watch but towards the end it got tidier and great to watch.

BthekingB

To john B, I'm pretty sure you weren't thinking the same when we were winning trophies and crushing oppositions for fun ?
Or do you really prefer to see us passing the ball around in our own half (between defenders & goalkeepers) for 40 minutes of a game or play the best counter attacking game ever to destroy the likes of benfica, madrid, chelsea or united in the champions league ?

John b, no clue mate...no clue

John B .... hang your head in shame lad....
Great post SoBe Red... My heart went out to Rafa

I was quite pleased to see the chelsea fans give rafa a hard time sorry for rafa but it really did show to the world what a bunch of no mark band wagon jumpers they are no history no class I hope rafa loosers every game from now till the end of season what he said about them when our manager has been proven right and they want him to say he is sorry what for telling the truth good on ye rafa lad

Eds.i personally would like to see 2 signings in january .hunteleer 6 million and walcott 10 million ,leaving Joe Cole 4million lille ,downing 8million aresnal,4millon spent ,Lucas and borini back by Jan stronger squad for 2nd half of season .

What do people see in walcott aka babel mark2

If u think walcott is crap, u claerly havent been watching arsenal games enough. After cazorla, he has been their best player.
Indian Buzzer

Not buying in to the whole Walcott thing i remember only a few months back he was been slated for been so bad he couldnt hit the target.. but now he's is shopping for a bigger contract or different club with bigger contract he's top notch...... Ill pass thanks he will disapear back in to the shadows when this is sorted....

Playing for a contract!!

Can someone tell me why Assaidi dosn't get played in the league? In the europa league hes always going on impressive runs past the opposition defenders and providing some good flair, so why aren't we using him in the league. Also downing should now only ever be used as a backup left back, never again do i want to see him play in our midfield ahead of assaidi or suso!

I'm sure he'll get a chance once BR thinks he's ready. Probably doesn't want him roughed up just yet.

We need goals? Can Assaidi play in a front 3 and put the ball in the net? He seems like a really good skilful old fashioned wide man to me. Maybe because he has such good ability the coaches are working with him to play just a little differently. That's my take on it anyway.

I thought Suso was good but this lad Texeira looks even better. We have some player in that lad.
Adjouran looks as though he is more consistent now and does not drift out of the game as much and should be looking at first team squad soon. Getting some goals as well.
Sorry to say but Pacheco has had his chance and will only stop some fantastic lads coming through (Ibe, Sinclair, etc) and best for him to move on.

Totally agree pachoe has never done anything that has pleased, very over rated player, makes downing look like a saint. Like the sound of that texera though hope it works out for the lad

This is the first time in weeks that i've checked out the site and forgot how many people spout total bollox of who LFC will and wont be signing..
Wouldn't it be great if we signed this that and the other Remy, Tello, etc etc..
Can remember when we were all elated when we signed Sahin in the summer, and he's not exactly set the world on fire. Be careful what you wish for not all european players are suitable for the rigours of English Football
I know you wont post this but people need to get real and get of their Xbox's

I know this may not mean much to alot of you, but for me I am liking the way I now know that Liverpool will rarely lose now. We are playing a style in which it seems like we will win or draw. Now compared to last season that is a relief as I felt like it was 50/50 whether we would win/draw or lose. From now we just have to start converting those draws into wins.
YNWA
GOD

You mean 33.33/33.33/33.33 for win/lose/draw

Good point? When you become difficult to beat? Teams are not so cocky playing you.
We have to start being difficult to score against as well.

january rumours!
remy-liverpool-10 million
joe cole-lille-5million
zarate-liverpool-8million
cavani-liverpool-20-30million(maybe)
downing-astonvilla-3million

Downing 3m?? More like 10 or 12

Zarate 6 million and
Huntelaar 6-9 million
Will do for me mate.

Joe Cole 5m?? One good game is all he's had. I'd take 500k tomorrow.

cozinoz

Forget Huntelaar he prefers Arsenal.

Why would Huntelaar prefere Arsenal? They recently brought in strikers whilst we are lacking them. He will have time to play at Liverpool. Also, Suarez and Huntelaar are good friends from their time at Ajax. At least, out of Arsenal and Liverpool, Liverpool will be his preferred choice...

Because arsenal will play champions league unlike you

to all the eds,i understand that you cannot reply to all comments.
but can you pls stop backing FSG they spend 116mil and recouped 85mil.
they have no football brain who starts the season.
sterling 17
suso 18
shelvey 19
wisdom 19
suarez not a striker at ajax never was neither at groningen/uruguay he plays in the back off 1.
borini unproven.
gerrard getting on we cant give him a rest.
last season we bought unproven players and it hurt us.
we need to buy a mix,we need proven players to help the young ones.
playing sterling all the time we are gonna ruin him.we need more patients with the young players but we cannot because we havent got a decent winger or striker.
last summer we did not spend 30 mil we spend 22mil adam aqua sales
plus aqua 5mil adam 2 mil kuyt 4mil bellers 3mil maxi 2.5mil carroll 4mil wages reduced.
all the players we brought in on lower wages.
We are the only ppl defending FSG

{Ed002's Note - Your figures are miles out. You are ignoring the cost of running the club and you are the personification of why football fans and financial details do not mix. I apologise for defending the owners of Liverpool FC - it is a pity that a large number of the fans are unable to give their support but continue to spew hate, grizzle, whine and bitch like schoolgirls at the owners and at the entire staff of the club. All of this because of a draw with Swansea. If Liverpool had scraped a one-nothing win yesterday then no doubt the birds would signing and the butterflies smelling the roses in the garden. Fickle fans? Surely not.}

The owners dont pick the 11 that goes out so your bit about sterling suso etc doesnt apply. this isnt chelsea
NZL_red

As soon as I read another money comment I was cringing. I'm sorry but a lot of fans on this site are actually really stupid If they think putting basic figures is like running a football club. I would say make a page for the most idiotic comments but I don't think we'd have any comments left on this page

A quick look at the league table, after 13 games we are sitting pretty in 11th spot, 16 points and +1 goal difference.
In the season 2010/2011 after 13 games we were sitting pretty in the 11th spot with 16 points and -4 goal difference ..
Apart from the 5 goal swing; more or less matched Roy Hodgson's start ...

just for completion sake (you can make comparisons if you like) last season after 13 games we were sitting very pretty in 7th place with 23 points and +5 goal difference.
(And worth mentioning last season was also labelled a rebuilding season)

Roy

Patience, this is a building year. Fans need to realise that it isn't a quick fix and we wont be fighting for the top 4 this year but maybe if financial situations are better and we purchase some decent players for the right price it could be a different year next year and possibly better for the next.
Show your support and patience with the plans ahead.

FowlerGod.

Since when is 11th in the table classed as sitting pretty?

Show your support and patience with the plans ahead.

=================
:), very funny .. And what if the plans are yet another manager and another building year
Mark my words .. No Europa , No Brendan .. I will be here for the next few months and you will have every right to call me whatever names you like if next season we are not in Europe and Rodgers is still in charge.

The problem with the Gerrard effect...

Since the game there has been some discussion on the topic of Gerrard, one half of the discussion argue that he is the only person playing forward (I'll refrain from referring to them as positive for now) passes and attempting to drive play forward. The other half argue his influence (and desire depending on who you ask) is at the very least questionable.

I'm not one for making un researched decisions or decisions based on emotion. Anyone who is a regular reader will have read some of my other posts about Gerrard, where I have not been favourable. They will also be aware that I like to try and view evidence and make a decision based on that, and not my own affection. To be clear, I will not be reviewing drive or passion in this post as they are intagible and subjective qualities. For example you might say he has no drive or motivation anymore but then at the height of his goalscoring Thierry Henry seemed to angrier with every goal, its hard to quantify drive and passion, so I wont be.

Whats good about Gerrard this year? Well after spending quite a while reviewing the team stats its actually looking quite good in some aspects, some may find that surprising.

Name Pass% KeyPassesPG G A InterceptionsPG
----------------------------------------------------
Gerrard 85.2 2.9 1 2 1.3
Allen 91.7 0.8 0 0 2.7
Sahin 82.5 1.1 1 1 2
Hendo 88.6 0.2 0 0 0.8
Jonjo 82.5 0.8 0 0 0.1

*All stats for Prem league only

Its worth noting that realistically Allen and Henderson aren't really comparable since they've been deployed purely to intercept and retain possession and so it's expected their stats for key passes and goals/assists will be lower. Based on statistics alone Gerrard (despite his detractors) is still the best all round midfielder at the club, shortly followed by Sahin.

K.Bennet posted not too long ago about moving Gerrard into the front three, this was then supported yesterday by someone (sorry can't remember who) stating Gerrards best performances had come from right wing. Given his strong points this season is key passes, assists and goals (he also has the highest dribbles completed from midfield) it would make some sense if he was moved forward. His stats do drop slightly whenever he has played two games in a week (as opposed to Sahin and Allen, whose stats improved slightly with two games in a week). If Jonjo could bring his europa form to prem then he would be a definite starter in midfield, but based on current stats the midfield 3 (for prem league) should be...

Gerrard
Sahin
Allen

If Jonjo improves I would modify the team to read as follows

Suarez
Sterling Gerrard
Shelvey
Sahin
Allen

Given that Allen is still managing almost 1 key pass per game, and 3rd best completed dribbles from DM, it does make you wonder how effective he might be at CM once Lucas returns.

Thanks for reading everyone, comments appreciated as always.

Nevada

Mate I appreciate stats but until we drop Steven Gerrard he is always going to think he can't be dropped. I hate to say it but are we becoming a club where a player is bigger than a club. I certainly know managers that would have dropped him by now. For me the club becomes first before any player. Steven Gerrard as been nothing short of woeful this season.

Mighty reds

Anyone who reads on here regularly will know that I have posted on a couple of occasions my indifferent feelings about Gerrard, but I really do like to be objective and pragmatic which is why if there is evidence to back the fact that he should be playing then I will happily admit I was wrong and support his inclusion in the first team, though not twice in the same week.

Nevada

So despite the fact that Nevada pulls out the stats to show that Gerrard is still the best midfielder we have at Liverpool you still want him dropped. Why? To prove some sort of point? Surely the whole idea is to play your best and most productive players.

The Irish Rover

Great post there Nevada it really was, however it does show you that stats are not everything.
I agree with mighty reds. To get te best out of gerrard you need to drop him now and again to keep him on his toes, he will put the effort into staying in the team then rather than just turning up. It will also give the likes of Henderson, sahin and shelvey a boost knowing they have a realistic chance to get in the team ahead of him if they put the effort in.
Imagine how gutting it is to put in so much effort to still not get a place because the club bends over for legends.
That's the gerrard problem. It effects the whole club and drags us back. Especially the youngsters.

MIKEY

Shelvey needs to picked in the premier league games instead of Gerrard. Until he is given a chance then we can't compare him. I mean Shelvey can at least hit a ball from outside the box on target.

Mighty reds

But Mikey, according to these stats, despite the effort the other players are putting in they are still not as good as Gerrard. Surely its up to the other players to be better than Gerrard in order to take his place.

The Irish Rover

Great post Nevada and quite eye-opening. I've been openly critical of Gerrard recently based purely on watching the matches but the stats you have certainly back him up.
The only criticism is that there are certain stats that may, or may not, create a different picture (no. of stray passes, no. of fouls, etc) and there are certain elements that cannot be summed up by statistics (attitude, effort, dynamism, influence, etc).
Having said that, SG does look like he is performing better than a lot of us have thought although the bar he set for himself previously is so goddamn high, he is more like a very good midfielder now rather than a genius.

cozinoz

So might red who are these managers that you know would have dropped theG and you proof.

KUMBER

All these stats show is that Stevie is currently the best player in a poor midfield.
He is clearly way below his usual standards and needs to get his form back quick as he is one of our only true world class players and we need him to perform at his best to have any chance of climbing the table.
Also im not sure whether English is your first language or not but either way if you're going to try to use big words make sure you use them in the correct context as it makes for difficult reading and makes you sound less intelligent rather than more so, or better still just keep it simple.
I do agree with the point you're trying to make regarding Stevie though. I can't believe the stick he is getting from our own fans, the man is a legend and I believe it is, at least in part, down to the system of are playing and If he gets pushed further forward when Lucas is back we should see our captain back in form again.

G.p

Great post Nevada. And it certainly shows Gerrard is contributing on and off the ball in a very positive way.
My concerns are in the areas the stats don't give info on.
If a player doesn't track back as often he won't be in a position to win or lose the ball in an interception so this situation won't be counted. Also if a player dribbles round him and no challenge is made that also won't be counted. On passing %, I recall 2 passes on Sunday, 1 a cross field ball to Downing that Downing could only head out of play. Counts as a completed pass because Downing touched it but we lost possession immediately in our half. 2 a long ball up to Sterling on the run, again touched by Sterling but needed a worldie first touch to keep the ball and even if he took it, there was no one in a 30 yard radius to take a pass from Sterling. Gerrard for me seems to be playing the opposite way to Rodgers style by continuing to play long passes. He's a great passer so he can do it, but he's captain and a senior player in a young squad and so should really be setting the example of sticking to the gameplan and not doing your own thing in my eyes.

Appreciate your views on this Nevada.

Simon

Been told that we will be buying 2 forward players, the squad has quality and cover at the back and in the middle of the park. Expect 1 big signing and an investment. Experience upfront is coming in and a potential poacher.

Great things ahead...believe

And your source is ? Oh yeah J W Henry of course.

Just like that exciting signing that was meant to be happening in August.

hello im alan and im 13
i wnted to ask the fans will liverpool be be in the champions league again or it will take maybe more years

what happens if no too soon? will the americans leave?

alan {Ed002's Note - I would doubt the CL this year Alan. As for the Americans, I am here to stay.}

Yes, we will be in the CL again however not this season. Too much attention is put on the ownership when it does not matter who the owners are, to a degree, in that there will always be something to complain about e.g. Chelsea spend lots of cash on new exciting players and are there fans happy right now? Sit back and enjoy the ride, mate, and be patient.

to all real liverpool supporters. supporting the club can sometimes be hard, like right now. however i lwill always support the club because it is a big part of my life, not everything in my life, but definately abig part. Its part of who i am. supporting liverpool has given me some great days and nights that will live in my memory for as long as i am alive. however recent times have not been so good, but thats does not mean i will stop supporting the club.

when your family or friend goes through hard times you help as much as you possibly can.in the case of liverpolfc this should mean stop moaning about every result that goes against, stop hating on every player who has a bad game and stop questioning every decision the manager makes. No doubt they get things wrong, but dont we all.however i am certain that the players, manager, coaches and the club are trying thier utmost to make us successful again. some things in life just take time, usually the things that are most worthwhile.

Well said mate spot on.

Eds fellow reds , just read an article in liverpool kop with rafa and players he wanted to sign at liverpool .anyway the last part of the story the writer feels that liverpool will be back in Europes elite with in two years.. My only concern is he didn't state which decade .

Positive thinking lad. Nice one

So the writer says it'll be within 2 years. It's currently 2012 and you work out what decade he is referring to????

Hi eds-Macca.what is going on with our great club tom werner comes out and says the fans will be happy in january and that actions will speak louder than words!.now that would sugest 2 me that we are going 2 do some good buisness in the window but now rodgers is saying he doesnt see much movement in january and we dont have any money as the owners want 2 balance the books this season!.now either rodgers is playing it down so clubs dont hawk there prices up or the owners are giving us more false hope!

Well said mate the owners are saying 1 thing and buck rodgers is saying something else, were a mid table top 8 team at best, kenny didnt help with his waste of 80 million pounds, were going to be 3/4 years before were even top 5

hi there a chelsea fan here! i would like to ask u on wot do u think of rafa! wot was ur style of play under him? wot was he like in the transfer market? do u think he will do a good job? talks a good game!
kevinCFC

Where you under a rock or just not interested in football back then? Rafa is a legend and you don't deserve him. Your fans are idiots and think they should be running the club. You lot and the Russian are a match made in heaven
FowlerisGod

Style of play was safety first. Always safety first, with the exception of a couple of months toward the end of our 2nd place season. He was hit and miss in the transfer market, bought us Alonso and Torres, but a massive stream of bad players on high wages as well.

I think you can do a lot worse for a manager, he is very tactically adept and I'm sure will get the best out of Torres but don't expect the same Torres we had. Hope that helps.

Nevada

Solid at the back with quick counter attack (exciting). the torres that played in a red shirt will not be coming back. rafas contract wont be extended come summer, transfers he wont be given any money, the only players that will come in are the ones roman wants. this is not your year, very lucky if you get top 4.

KUMBER

KevinCFC, The only thing your fans need to realise, Rafa had nothing to do with Di matteo getting sacked, and the Chelsea fans that had the Rafa out banners should be ashamed of themselves .. this is no way to great your new manager. Most of us did n't want Roy Hodgson, but in the very first few weeks we gave him our full support from the stands ..

Roy

For me, he's a top, top quality tactician who knows the game inside out. He is marmite in the dressing room though, very critical and constantly picking up on errors in players games. Tactically he likes to control the game more through squeezing space than possession or attacking flair. This may have been more to do with the players we had because his Valencia team was very nice to watch. His aim seemed to me to be to create a game with few chances and trust that his team have more quality than the opposition and will score a larger percentage of the chances. Not the best to watch for my taste but he gets results and we cant honestly say his time up here was not exciting at times. Expect a few 0-0 draws if you can't get yourselves ahead in games. Would not have had him down as a quick fix merchant especially if the fans give the players an excuse to not bother to perform by demanding him out. Not looking forward to playing you guys this season though if I'm honest, not too many know the game better than Rafa.

Simon

Massive ego, always right, its Rafa's way or the highway.

If you happen to stay in the Champions League? Rafa will do well? He's a great Manager in European Games as you at Chelsea discovered when he at Liverpool.
On the downside he will rest players for league games to field his strongest team for Europe.

Benitez inherited a fantastic team put together by Hector Cuper to finsh just a couple points off the top in La Liga at the same as being beaten Champions League finalists for 2 consecutive seasons.
They were already a successful and a attractive footballing side before he arrived.
He Benitez won the La Liga twice after he took over so he did well to take it to the next level after Hector Cuper.

Had to laugh at FowlerisGod's response to Kevin. Came across like an enraged cage fighter who had just been asked if his wife was available.

Cheers mate. I aim to please. My wife is available if your offering. She does my head in

Rafa struggled badly in the first season we came 5th with 58 points behind everton that season we gave away a lot of goals but he tightened it up the following year if chelsea r anywhere near as bad as we were that season you will struggle to be top 4 as there is more competion for that than there was then imo.Tommy Irish Red

I do not understand what BR and FSG want the fans to believe. First BR says he wants to make a few investments in the summer then says they'll be little activity then says he's obviously going to make changes in the summer then says he's not going to splash the cash in January? Then Tom Werner comes out and says he thinks the fans will be happy with what the club have planned for January then apparently they won't be making any investments and its a case of sell to buy.

I knew after th summer it was a case of sell to buy but what are you supposed to think as a fan when you get told there will be investments then there won't be...then there will be?

All we need in January is 1 quality forward that is a first team player. Not another borini, not another Assaidi.

Easily confused you are lad.

MIKEY

Or not another fan moaning like u borini and Assaidi are the type players a mid table Liverpool can attract

It's all a big game mate. You'd have to be Steve Keen not to see that the squad needs better players. The club need to let the fans know they see the shortcomings and want to change it but if they come out and say 'we're gonna spend big' then every club who gets a call from us double their asking price. If we all chill out and trust the manager and the owners, then we can keep our business quiet and hopefully get in some quality for a good price in Jan.

Simon

I think people should lay off Borini, not his fault he was playing injured. No wonder his performances weren't amazing, and he is only young. If he has a couple of bad years when he's fully fit then you'll have a point.

Nevada

Maybe Rodgers came up with the 'we have to balance the books' comment so other clubs stop holding us to ransom, atleast thats my opinion.

Huntelaar - this is a guy wed probably get on the cheap. I realise hes moved to two big clubs in the past and failed and failed at world cup but lets face it were we are at its not as massive for him as ac or real thats sadly were we are he probably wouldnt feel as much pressure as he would have when he moved to real or ac only people that wpuld give him pressure is us. Also lets not forget this is a guy thats linked up woth suarez at ajax and they forged a deadly attack surely it is a no brainer pairing they two up again and at a cheap price more positives could be gained than loses surely.
Shaunlfc93

I expect Huntelaar to end up in London

Chris in Tamworth

It's a given that he will end up in London as he doesn't view Liverpool as a step up which of course he is right.

Everyone's slating Allen but he's playing a DM role Swansea we kept a clean sheet and recently we have not been letting in that many goals therefore as well as the defence he's doing he's job. He's young he's not playing in his actual role can you people give the kid a chance?! Moving to Liverpool as well as being 21/22 as well as having 15 million price tag is a lot of pressure! Lay off you bunch of miserable gits

Londonred

And he's just had a kid in the last few weeks.

Simon

Those slating Allen just think about the stick Lucas used to get,& how we are missing him now eh?
Paisley's genius

Yeah exactly there is huge amounts of pressure on him both personal and working life. You could see the amount of effort he was putting in on Sunday he's going to be quality and every one will shut up again

London red

Also I think he will mature into a very good player within the next few seasons.
Scouse_Pride

And he gets paid a huge amount of money, no excuse

Well said Londonred. I'm looking forward to the moaners on here eating their words when Lucas comes back, bosses the defensive cover and we start seeing Allen make those sharp runs and through balls he made for Swansea. At the moment he's acting as a metronome keeping the game ticking over for Liverpool, he hasn't got the choice to push forward as it'd leave us too open at the back, especially if we're trying to keep a higher line. Like our Brendan said, we'll see a completely different Allen once we've got Lucas back, and I can't wait.

JFT 96

JP

What's his natural position? I don't know, thought he was brought in for the DM role...
And I think he does well, not very attacking oriented but I think he does an awesome job in front of the backline

jt

Allen is quality. Watch him go when Lucas is back. Better than xavi
FowlerisGod

Allen is purely a central midfielder with a good passing range. He is not a cdm, a position he has had to fill in coz of lucas' injury. Plus he is only 22. Cm's usually come good at the age of 25-26, examples r modric, xavi, alonso, schweinsteiger etc. So i doubt we will see the best of Allen atleast for the next 2 seasons. Imagine how good he will be, coz he isnt doing too badly right now, is he?

Pls eds does suarez have a buyout clause in his contract..I want to know what to expect in january..saying he is staying doesn't matter,torres did the same and he changed his mind.really fast when chelsea came..loyalty isn't enough this days {Ed002's Note - Try the search function or read the posts please.}

Compare Torres's body language in his final months with us & then take a good look at Suarez... It really is that simple mate.

If he has a buy out clause he has one nothing we can do if Liverpool fail to qualify for cl at the end of next season I think he will leave anyway and no one can blame him. He will be replaced like St. John, Keegan, toshack, dalglish, rush, fowler,Owen,Torres. He is a fantastic player but ain't guna stay forever

Wow on Allens back again? Seems as though whenever we draw/lose we need to use the CM playing as a DM as a scapegoat.

Been told FSG say we have to sell to buy. They should really not have bought Liverpool if they never had the resources.

Doesn't the £130m that Kenny blew count as resources ?

Oh shut up mate, you've been told nothing. You got a spare 5 mins before your Mum calls you for tea.

U gotta blame k.k spent all that money and brought no improvement to the team he set us back a few years if br had spent that much last year we would have been in the top 6 challenging for the champions league now

Since when did kenny get £130 mill... The guy is talking about investments. You've clearly included sales of other players (Torres, merirles etc) which is not investment. I'm not one to have a go at the owners because they did lfc a favour and genuinely want to do good things for this club, but at this moment in time the best thing for them to do is probably sell up to a bigger investor. This is a billionaires sport now {Ed002's Note - Dalglish spent £116M or so.}

In all fairness mate .you might not have been told but I have read a couple of stories that fsg don't wont to spend this year to get accurate figures from the club ,so we will see

Kenny done a terrible terrible job, no dissrespect but now were lumbered with hendo, downing, carrol, that uruguan defender all very expensive rubbish!

Things have to be bad when Stevie G gets the blame. He doesn't look injured or past it, just bored.
Glamour and passion are leaving the club at a rate of knots.

Rodgers is not the man for the job. Although in different circumstances an OK manager.

Please leave off Stevie and apportion the blame in the right areas.

Take Suarez and Sterling out of the team. There isn't much left. If Suarez had been injured since the start of the season we would be in bed with QPR.

Boston Red

Boston 'Red' most certainly isn't !
the non-name poster is a visiting 'fan'

Blame in the right areas? I'm pretty sure the players on the pitch decide the results, and Gerrard was awful against Swansea, but hey let's blame Rodgers instead, why not?!

Would someone please tell Mr Rodgers that Enrique is a left full back, nothing else. Also tell him that Allen is not worth £15m (as already mentioned). And here is a thought, why dont we swap Rodgers for Rafa, that would be good business.

Enrique is a better left mid than left back, allen will be one of our best player soon, and rodgers is doing well with and unfortunatly average squad. we are unbeaten in 8 games. you know nothing.

Mati.d

Enrique has been very good as LM. Do you actually watch the games?

Can we swap you for a real Liverpool fan ?

Red Til Dead

When will you people realise that the mess we are in is partly because of Rafa?

You Chelsea fans never give up...

8 games unbeaten..5 draws in it...and 3 came in home draws....progress for you??
my goodness

Enrique has hit the back of the net twice in two games from LM!

Rodgers has seen that Enrique is the only player we have (until Borini comes back) who shows some kind of instinct to get into the 6 yard box, get across the front of the defender and look for the tap ins. He's not the answer long term but Rodgers should be given credit for trying to make the best of what we have.

Simon

Progress - "Forward or onward movement toward a destination."

So, yes, 8 games undefeated and movement up the table to within 9 pts of 4th place without an actual out and out goalscorer or effective natural inside forward over 19 is progress. We were worse than this end of last season, and beginning of this new season/regime. We are better now.

Bale was a LB just saying.

Just wanted to point out that of the 12 teams we have played this season who we played last season at the same venue we have picked up 13 points in comparison to 16 last year.
Strangely against the top teams such as Man Utd, Arsenal, Chelsea, Man City, Everton & Newcastle we picked up 11 points whilst we have only picked up 4 points against the same opposition this season.
If we can sneak a victory against spuds tomorrow then we will be level as last year so Brendans prediction of 8th is a benchmark we really have to take seriously. Also considering we have yet to travel to Old Trafford, Citeh & Emirates it's going to be a tall order to break into the top 4. I believe in BR but we need to give him a few more seasons yet.

More like its going to be impossible to get into the top four. Realist fans need to start speaking up because this is getting pretty sad. We are not going to get top 4, end of story. We are far to inconsistent and we are already 9 points adrift so top 6 is a better aim for this season. Personally I've predicted that we will end up with 51 points at the end of the season and we'll be around 9th or 10th. This doesn't make me a fan of a different club it makes me a realist. This season is really the freshman year and our squad only need a few tweaks in jan nothing major because this is what has been effecting lfc for far to long. Ever since rafa left there have been players bought then the same players sold then a new set of players bought then the same players sold. With BR something has to give. Lets hope he starts purchasing better players though not just players he knows.

What I would give to have Isco and Damiao at Liverpool. A striker and a creative midfielder. I miss the days we could attract such players.

AsianRed

They want be happening, damiao according to press reports recently said he would like a move to chelsea? During the summer it was spurs! His agent spoke to other teams during the olympics but it was spurs where he wanted to play (thats where I think he will end up should he come to england)? Personally I believe he will end up at ath madrid

What is Suarez, if not a great striker?

We can attract players, but we are forcefully staying within the confines of a budget. We do not have a billionaire owner who plans on throwing his money at the club every season.

I miss the days when we made them 'Rush, Fowler, Owen ... not bought them!

We bought rush 4 30,000 from chester city

The problem with a lot of Liverpool fans is that they live in the past to much, Rodgers n FSG are building something special for the future, they just have to balance the books first! we are building a solid foundation to build our empire on, but it takes time unfortunately so we have to be patient! I'll give rafa credit for winning the champs lge n FA cup plus doing great things in sorting out our youth set up n seeing some of them coming through now but that's it! He's gone so stop living in the past! Also Torres is not half the player he was at Liverpool n thankfully he won't be coming back! So stop living in the past! Let's look towards a brighter future with owners that have a plan to start at the core of the club n work there way through everything until they get it right....i for one believe in FSG and brenden Rodgers And will give them my full support unlike some on here who play FIFA too much! The atmosphere at anfield is a joke too! So scream n shout n support the lads like we use too

We are not living in the past,we are living in the present.
and we need to strenghten the squad we are 2 strikers short.
at least these americans should give us that.

What are we building. nothing. you should hear what harry rednapp said about qpr. start working harder or your out. he is being honest and telling it like it is. br needs to take the same route and stop talking crap. its not good enough,.

Hardly think qpr players are on par with ours harry is a quick fix merchant gets a load of has beens in but his teams dont last and never win anything

Hey Eds great site, keep it up. My question is not about transfers, but about the redevelopment of Anfield, do you have any time frame of when work may start? Or are FSG yet to make a decision on whether to redevelop or build a new stadium? Could we be waiting a good few years before work begins? Please answer this, it is doing my head in.
Kev {Ed002's Note - The decision has been taken to give Anfield a refurb and increase capacity. It will need to go through planning, consultation, appeals etc.. It may be possible to start some work in advance but I would speculate that anything significant would not start until the summer of 2014.}

Recent posts state that they like Rodgers. They like his thoughts and philosophy. But I'll tell you one thing - the football is bloody awful!

...as are your posts.

Were good to watch for the majority of the match then just seem to loose our way n concentration a bit we need a striker to put the ball in the net then it wouldnt matter as much if we lost our concentration a bit like on sunday we should have bin 3 up first half

I don't have any lfc contacts but I do have some with villa as a lot of my mates are connected to them as I'm from the midlands. Just two things which come from them that you might be able to shed light on.

liverpoolfc were linked woth Burak yilmaz who had a 5 million euro clause in the summer but all the our supporters were saying he plays in the turkish league which is very poor level concerned with the EPL.Well now he is among the top goal scorers in the UCL and in the turkish league.Where were our scouts then ? Think they seem to focus on players which have one great season in there whole career I think. {Ed002's Note - Don't read too much in to his transfer fee paid by Galatasaray for Yilmaz. Galatasaray may look to cash in and take a fast profit from him.}

Are we still showing an interest in him Ed?

Eds, what do you think of Rodgers comments yesterday about balancing the books? Do you think it was just to make clubs think we're not going to be held to ransom over players or do you think there is a chance we won't spend much in January? {Ed002's Note - See earlier answers please.}

I think its a case that he speaks the truth, we have been spending way over our means for far to long. We as a business need to balance the books, we are not a billionaire's play thing. I'm afraid truth we need to be realistic in the fee's and wages we can afford, and this will determine the players and potentially their abilities, although why cant we get quality players who turn out to be top class, like Wenger has done for many years. We will be in and around the top 8 for a few years i feel and with a bit of patience and luck, may challenge a top 4 position. Its now time for reality fellow fans, the sooner we all realise it the less dissapointment we will have and maybe we wont have to suffer the burks on here saying this player should be executed and the manager, owners and their wife thrown into a fire pit!

26 Nov 2012 14:50:49
What we need is to replace Bellamy. We need an intelligent player who can score goals, as Suarez is the only one we have currently. I would give Assaidi a run to see if the player who we need is him. A striker will be brought in during January and our season will become clearer one way or the other. We will either start scoring or we won't, pure and simple.
Scouse_Pride

Intellegent by means...a master degree holder????

Hi, great site, first time posting on here, so here goes.
I like many have faith in BR, I personally think he could be with us for a long time and be very successful once he has his players in that he wants.
To think what he's done in a short space of time is great and the long term future of the club looks great under him, with his ideas and philosophy etc.

Anyway just wondered what your thoughts are on puncheon? He reminds me of sterling, always wanting to attack. I know he's no messi etc but from what I've seen he's done well and could be worth a punt? He seems Like he could fit in better than downing . Any thoughts?

I think the future looks bright too.

But I'd give Puncheon a miss.

He's no better than Sterling or Suso imo - and much older. Ibe, Yesil, Sinclair and Morgan in reserve too - as well as Assaidi who looks good too. If we're gonna buy someone for the wider front 3 areas I'd want someone better than Puncheon.

I reckon Ince is much better player, or even Babel - and I'd love Tello - but perhaps I'm dreaming there....

Thought I'd reply seeing it's your first post and all.

Only polite.

BJH YNWA

ps - 'El Bale' Enrique looks promising too. He's staking a claim, fair play to him.

Team v Spurs : Wednesday night, about time we shuffled the pack and got our best players on the pitch and not on the bench. Don't ever want to see Downing at left back!!
Coates will take care of adebyor, set pieces and add a bit
of weight to ours. Right side is now as strong as the left.
Giving us a better balance. Gerrard/Sterling and Johnson/Enrique and strong right down the middle.

Seriously, are u kidding me ?
Bale and lennon on either wing and the pace of defoe up front and you think us playing without wing backs would be good idea ..
I'm pretty sure we would start with 4 at the back if not 5 with enrique and johnson playing their proper positions and coates in the centre skrtel and agger either side of him..maybe second half we would get back to 4-2-3-1 ..

I want to see Assaidi be given some game time, he looks threating when he has played in Europe.

I think Johnson will be played at RB and Enrique at LB to stop Bale n Lennon. id like to see us adopt the Rafa formation of 4231

..............Reina.................
Johnson Skrtel Agger Enrique

Assaidi Gerrard Sterling
............Suarez...............

Bring on depending how its going around the hr mark.

Cole for Gerrard, Cole played really well in Europe, Gerrard will probably tire towards the end and Cole can certainly pick out a pass.

Downing for Sterling, switch Assaidi to the left and let Downing attack Vertonghen

3-0 to Spurs is my prediction.

A few points to ponder over:
Enrique up front - does not work.
Downing at left back - does not work
Johnson at right back - does not work
Allen in midfield - does not work
Gerrard in midfield - does not work
Rodgers as manager - does not work

Your brain - does not work

Moot

You are a LFC fan - does not work

Shouldn't you be working instead of posting things like this?
Midsred

Un named posters with stupid comments- does not work

Eric the red

Johnson at right back does not work?
he has played there all his life and is know as a RB, the only reason he is LB is because we are short in that position.

person!

For the first time ever Johnson actually looks like he is working and the same could be said for enrique. Both looked good yesterda. Looked as though they were trying. As for Gerrard, had a bad couple of games, question is, is it just a blip or is he struggling due to age? Thionk he has earned the benefit of the doubt and should be allowed a bit of time to at least try and rediscover. as for downing, cant argue there he just looked like he couldnt be bothered yesterday. Rodgers as manager needs to be given time, who else do you want instead, just out of curiosity, or have you not though that far ahead yet?

BR remarks on the january window left me worried.
this season was all abt the books (wagebill).
if we dont get a striker of quality WE CAN GIVE UP THIS SEASON.
I am starting to believe why de boer van gaal klopp ect ect did not want the job.
its just not possible to fight manu manc chelsea with there money.
i agree we need a plan but the plan needs to backed with money.
if we do not get a striker in january it means no money,or unwilling to spend their own money.
and all this wage bill nonsense needs to end,we are playing with kids sterling wisdom suso shelvey combined wage off 1 senior player.
is joe cole wage really the problem?
losing out on top 4 costs 40mil euro,FSG have no feeling with the club they are too far away.
3 years ago they did not even know there was a football club in liverpool.
no spending in january common.
if suarez gets injured we all will have heartattacks every weekend haha.

It is good to see a rounded understanding of how a club should be run. Yes, we obviously need cover for Suarez but the lack of understanding as to why we need to balance the books is worrying. If we were to spend big, as you suggest, and we dont qualify for CL? There are other quality teams/clubs out there who are trying to do the same thing and are either financially better off than us or further down their development journey than us, so why do we think we are guaranteed CL with big spending? If this season is balancing the books, then so be it, if it this means that we set ourselves up, great. Trying to buy success when we are not in a position to do it, is asking for trouble.

what is really going on at the club for f**ksake. br is full of utter crap as are the owners. you may all have a dig at me for saying this but the truth is it is a joke. one problem after another thats all that has happend. firstly the owners should of done there resarch on the club before buy it. they may well of got us out of the crap but i still think someone else would of done the same. they know nothing about football at all and now the want to run this club without putting anymore money in. well the truth is thats not going to happen. why. thats how football clubs are and every owner has to do the same. now they say we have to cut the wage bill and give us f**k all tranfer money. they will finsh lfc. they have put a manger in who dont have a clue and thinks as long as we finsh better than 8th thats alright and now to top it off he is compering what the result was like last season against the team we are playing now. last season is last season forget about it and go out to win. not draw or lose. if he thinks yesterday was good on how far we have come then maybe he should sit in the stands and pay what we have to pay. its a joke what he comes out with. if he come out and said this is not good enough i would respect that but keep saying what he says is taking the p*ss. he needs to go. that squad of players are not as bad as everyone keeps saying. a top manger would get the best out of his players but he cant. passing the ball about without scoring is not getting the best out of them. he looks lost to me thats because he only has a one way he like to play. he dont have any other opions and he choose to do it like that. that is why he has to take the blame. liverpool fc has always played good football and when we have not the manger has been sacked. all this talk about its going to take time. what is going to take time for br to get a string of wins together. football is football for f**ksake. yes i get its going to take time to get the the club back on track but not the football side of things. we have top players who other clubs would love to have. we should be winng games. for all who want to stand and beleave that br is the man to do it need to sort it out . he will not do it.

We can't have a proper dig at you as we don't know who you are. Most of us make stupid and unhelpful comments now and the but at least put some sort of signature underneath. I made a comment last week and another yesterday which ian the red (silly as he may be) was able to pick on and make a comment (not wholly legible) but he was at least able to do that. To you and others like you please sign your comments and perhaps we can all properly agree or disagree with you.

Any truth in the rumour that we might be getting Darren Bent on loan in January.

To buy? No thanks.

On loan? For free? Yes please.

Why would they loan out a striker they paid a small fortune for?
That's our trick.

MIKEY {Ed002's Note - I suspect he will be available for sale in January.}

I thought only small clubs loaned players are Liverpool a small club now? {Ed002's Note - Hopeless. Pretty much all clubs periodically loan players. Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool, Everton ....}

Ed002 is once again correct. Think Larson, Henry, Sahin, two thirds of Evertons squad, Adebayor (and he's a double).

Adebayor name changed to loanabayor..

At a price of £15m can someone please tell me what Joe Allen brings to the team?

Oh god, we are back to this again are we?

He has had a few poor games, but if you actually get to go to a live game and not watch on Sky you will see he is absolutely fantastic in the middle, and when Lucas returns he will be able to play his correct position

Well said. Brendan bought him so he has to play him to justify why he bought him. A very average player.

He helps us lose games

Passing back to the goalkeeper ?

An year full of boots, jerseys, own towels and stockins + the food in lunch or dinner depends upon the match schedule.

Maybe ask yourself what your "support" does to his confidence.

MIKEY

Easy answer sideways and backwards passing.

Wait until Lucas is back, our midfield will have stability again Lucas does the dirty work and allows others to get forward, we have really really missed him.

1st choice midfield when fit

Gerrard Lucas Allen

Shelvey Henderson Sahin

BigD

Joe Allen is class
Paisley's genius

26 Nov 2012 12:53:45
Nuri Sahin reminds me a lot of Lucas at the start of the 2010/11 season, when he had to replace Alonso suddenly. He's not doing the best now, but he has a whole 2nd half of a season to turn it around, and Brendan will give him the chance. I was so excited when we brought him in, and I thought he would go straight into the starting XI, but right now it looks like he's a squad player to use as an alternative to Stevie. It's difficult this early to measure the guy's true ability against his performances, that have been poor.

But if let Lucas go after his first real test in the team back then, it would have been a dreadful decision. Maybe Madrid won't want him back, and we could agree a cut-price deal for him at the end of the season. I'd like to see him given time over some other players. He hasn't got a case like Torres (never being the same player he once was), he's just adapting and figuring out his role in what is very structured midfield. And it's not like Downing where you just 'hope' he gets better, Sahin will definitely get better eventually, but like Lucas it's just being patient with the lad at the moment.
RC

Lucas was asked to play a totally different game and position to the game he'd grown up playing in Brazil? Hence the indifferent form at the beginning. Sahin had fitness problems initially? Now it's just finding a balance in the midfield with him as part of it.
I think he'll play against Spurs. I agree he should get better as he does have good ability.
kidmillions

I think it's tough judging Sahin and Allen when they are both doing a job which isn't natural to them., Sahin isn't a ball winner, he's a pass machine, Allen is as well, these players are doing their best taking it in turns to cover for Lucas.

Lucas comes back, you'll see a more advanced Sahin and Allen.

Sahin..pass machine???????
u mean james alberto sahin? the rugby player??

Poster above superb.I watch him live been poor since hes been here.Wants too much time-thus far anyhow

From the last 10 years for the side we have now, and personalities and feelings aside, owen and Torres.
From the prem years for this team I would take Fowler and Mcmanaman.

Alonso, Masherano, and Hypia if we had these three players in the team now we'd be a lot better for it. I'm not saying in a better league position just a better team.

Traore, the guys a legend!

Billy liddell!!

Patrik Berger was only just in the last ten years but he deserves it for this :

You know, the greatest day in my football life was the day I signed for Liverpool. I couldn't believe it. When I was young in Czechoslovakia, we didn't see much European football, but my father's friend went to England and he watched Liverpool. When he came back, he gave me the programme, the ticket and a scarf. I still have them all.
When I moved to Southport to live, my neighbour was Kenny Dalglish. Alan Hansen lived around the corner. I met them, they were normal guys, but they were my heroes. To me, it's the best club in the world and when I am finished playing and I'm telling my children about it I will be proud to say that for seven years I was a Liverpool player.

Gotta be Antonio Nunez. Chucked in for free along with a bucket of chicken for the Owen deal, signing of the decade without question.

Gerrard is a legend, but he is currently not good enough to be guaranteed a starting place. He is also past the days where he could play 90 minutes every or nearly every game.
It's not like he is 36-38 and nearly retiring. He is nearly 33, but his legs have gone (maybe all the injuries have caught up with him).
I would like to see him quit the national team and concentrate on LFC.
Then only play him once a week max.
Yes he still has an eye for a pass and his free-kicks have been dangerous at times this season.
However, he is giving the ball away more than ever. Maybe because he isn't chasing to win the ball back like he used to, it is making the errors more noticeable/costly.
He hardly tracks back anymore.
Also, hardly gets forward any more.
Very rarely does he shoot, but that is related to not getting forward as much.
Hopefully when Lucas come back and plays to his old form, Gerrard can play as an attacking midfielder. Also, maybe use him for 30-35 minutes playing on full rather than 90 minutes playing at 50% of his old level is the way forward. It is quite clear that he is managing his play, so this could be the answer.

I agree mostly.
I can't see him ever getting back to his best unfortunately.
He needs to quit international football and be managed better by Rodgers, he needs a rest now and again.
Also another member of the squad needs to step up and really start to push him for a place. I thought that might have been shelvey but he hasn't impressed me enough yet to replace gerrard.
The bottom line is gerrard needs to be rotated based On form and fitness and not just be an automatic choice. That should be the case for every professional footballer, but some become untouchable and that can be very damaging to a team albeit unintentionally.

I watched the Swansea game with much mixed feelings.

The good parts - thought we were the better team, Reina had a gd game, some gd passing movements, another clean sheet and now 8 unbeaten in the BPL. And Enrique is so much better at LM.

Not-so-gd - at times we just didnt have that creative spark and teams will happily sit back and let us pass it from right to left and back again. Fact is, a team can go 38 games unbeaten and still only have 38points.

We are definitely progressing but I so hate the growing pains!! Haha

But I love my team. And we have the best fans. But we really can learn from those Swansea and Young Boys fans who sang non stop.

Anyway, hope Santa brings us some great cheers this Christmas.

Any one else get that horrible feeling that the owners will not spend any money in January ,? After what br has said this mornin about on big spending in January

He will get something to spend but it will be subjective. It's going to be hard to find any strikers that will really improve the squad with also being financially viable. I know everyone is hoping for a big transfer (me included) but the reality is that they will now want to assess where the club is at financially after loosing a huge amount in each year of ownership. I don't really see how spending 30m on a player will help in that regard seeing as they will want wages as high a Gerrard. Unfortunately, they only way I can see us getting 3/4 players in to really progress is to sell Suarez.

Simon

The owners were never going to spend big in January

Where did the that idea come from of FSG breaking the bank in Monte Carlo?

The refusal of FSG to pay 4M for demsey surely painted this picture of little funds available.

When Kenny was in dire needs of a player or two last January nothing much happened, why now should it be any different for BR?

We have one shot at players in the summer market and if the budget goes that would seem to be it. BR spent how much over 30M last summer?

We may get a loan player in or a player "for the future" we seem to like those players or we may even get a bargain buy for a few million but that would seem to be it. The arrival of sturridge, walcott, a goal keeper, a CAM and a few others is very unreasonable, don't you think?

The owners don't have a money tree that blossomed between Last August and now yielding millions of pounds.

Pather Pink Think

If they do not bankroll BR in january expect the club to be touted for sale in the near future - if indeed this is not already being done privately.

I would rather one lewnadowski at 15-20 million or daimoa at 20 million than say 4 players at 10 million. We should buy real quality but dont buy many and promote kids.

Dont dare to think and dream we will be spending 25-30 mill in january..
and comon on our current form..a last month out of contract huntelar want to join arsenal instaed of us..
I dont see if higuain will score plenty in our current team.
the only skilfull player.who has some tricks other than pass is suarez.
havent seen a player in near while who have tricked 2-3 defenders in a through run.
allen, gerrard, shelvey. henderson, downing, lucas, sahin...are all midfielders..
what we lack is two quality skillfull players.
like hazard, mata, or silva...
unfortunatly we have only one in suarez. who is also a striker and creator.

I rather expect BR has been trying to play down the expectations for this window in order to:

a) Not build the fans hopes up like the summer

b) Not to be held to ransom over targets like we have been previously

I expect a few signings in January and i think we will be pleasantly surprised.

Remember, we are in dire need of some players, soon as the window opens. Clubs know this, so will hike up prices if we go about telling the world how much we have to spend. BR/FSG have to be strewd in their approach or otherwise we will have another AC or SD player on our hands, overpriced rubbish.

Trust in BR/FSG in January, and also remember its not the est time to buy players.

Lee73

If it was your money would you invest in the knowledge you would get little or no return? I wouldn't either so give theses people a break.

26 Nov 2012 12:03:33
Let's discuss dillusiounment. Cos there's a lot of it, and it's starting to spread to me.

I said in the summer, we had one problem - goalscoring - and that we didn't need to kick out the manager to fix it. I guess you could add that we were too reliant on Lucas for genuine steel in midfield too. But still, both are potentially a one signing fix. No one could really say we played badly, or had a disfunctional team last season. But on pure results, Kenny fell. Fast forward the guts of half a season. Results are worse. Goalscoring's not fixed, if anything we're even more toothless because we have one midfielder who gets into the penalty area (Shelvey), and he doesn't play. Kuyt and Bellamy left (I think those were out of Rodgers hands tbf), and we let Carroll go, which is fair enough in its own right, but after doing that, we needed more strikers. We bought Borini and played him on the right. We were also going to buy Dempsey, who despite his goalscoring record last year, is not a striker any more than Gerrard or Lampard were at their peaks. Along with Sigurdsson, he's gone to Spurs and not done a whole lot at all.

We're also even more reliant on Lucas for a defensive midfielder because Spearing's gone. I know people can say "Well Spearing and Carroll were crap", but if crap players are getting in the team (as Spearing & Carroll were), then you need to replace them, not just sell them and bring in no one else. As a result of this, we started the season with 2 strikers (and it still would've been 2 even with Dempsey) and Allen's been asked to play defensive midfield where he's struggling, and I'm worried about what that'll do to his confidence.

Let's talk about unpopular players that haven't been sold. Downing in particular.

He gets a lot of stick on here, some of it justified and some of it not, but he's given us more of a return in terms of goals and assists this season (2 & 3 respectively) than Assaidi and Suso put together (3 assists, no goals). But he isn't given a look in in a PL game between the first day of the season and yesterday, when he was played at left back. With an actual left back on the pitch playing left midfield. Hodgson, Rafa & Kenny would've been crucified for that. Downing cannot play left back against quality opposition any more than Sterling can play right back. I do not know why Rodgers didn't swap him and Enrique after 10 minutes yesterday. It really is starting to look to me that Rodgers made a decision at the start of the season that Downing wasn't going to play and regardless of what else happened, he'd stick to that, and only brought him in yesterday because Wisdom was injured. And because Downing was rubbish at left back yesterday, people will no doubt be delighted that he isn't playing next time around and will hop all over Kenny for spending money on him some more. Cos there's nothing like beating a dead horse. This is why I didn't want a new manager - new ideas mean new players and old players being ditched without being given a chance by the new guy. Happens all the team, first thing Rafa did when he arrived was ditch Henchoz (okay, that was probably the right decision) and sell Murphy for half nothing. The team wasn't nearly bad enough to warrant that after only 18 months of the previous reign, imo. Adam's gone (okay, I didn't rate him, personally), Carroll's gone, Downing will probably be gone, and Henderson & Enrique are 50/50, all at huge losses, when I think we could've gotten more value from playing them.

All of this is adding up to be a lot of expense for no improvement. FSG aren't bottomless pits moneywise and the club was already running at a loss, and as a fan looking in from the outside, I'm having trouble justifying all that expense in my mind. The only saving grace is that Rodgers has a clear plan, and I think it is something that can be made work (unlike Hodgson for example). That's the only reason why I'm prepared to live with being in the bottom half. The owners just have to be sure to give Rodgers 3 years to get it together and not be as impatient as they were with Kenny.

Anyhow, flame away.

- Something Red -

You don't need flaming

What you say is true

Panther Pink Think

Well put Something Red at last somebody with a rational mind describing our current situation. Lucas now being more or less match fit will push Allen back into his natural position which will be good for his confidence. I personally would send Henderson out on loan to regain his confidence as he is a very good player. Once Carroll and Spearing have been sold and the squad has been trimmed down selling players who BR has no use for, is when Brendan will put his stamp on the squad. He needs a hand full of players and we will have a challenging squad GK, CB, LB, DM, RW & 2x ST's are the positions that I would address.
Scouse_Pride

To be fair you are right with most of what you say. what i dont agree is that br is the man to do it. even if they give him 3years and i hope they dont.

I wouldn't have Downing,Cole or Henderson on the pitch while players like Shelvey,Suso,Sahin and Assaidi are sitting on the bench.
That's where were going wrong? It really is that simple? Whatever way you do it? You have to get your best and most skilful players on the pitch.

Yeah spot on mate.
I'm still shocked we didn't replace spearing in the summer. We should have just kept him if we wasn't going to bring in a replacement. This system needs a DM it's vital, and yet we only have one who was injured for most of last season.
Anyone with half a brain can see we need proper back up to Lucas.

26 Nov 2012 15:04:35
Roy,

The thing is, if we finish 8th and they sack Rodgers, like they did with Kenny, then I'll feel like they haven't learned their lesson. New guy will come in and could well want to move on Allen & Borini and bring in his own players. That's another £26m worth of players not given more than a season. We can't sustain that, and the next guy might finish 9th or lower anyway. So we'll sack him too.

I wanted Kenny to stay. I really did. But he's gone now, and although I have my misgivings, pulling the same thing again will get us nowhere. Unless we're 16th or something, we have to give Rodgers time.

We've had four changes of manager in 3 years and only one brought about an improvement. And even then, he wasn't deemed good enough 18 months later. It's like playing the lottery. We'll just keep trying managers until we hopefully land on the right one. You can't depend on that.

- Something Red - {Ed002's Note - Dalglish was not sacked solely for coming 8th in the league.}

27 Nov 2012 00:49:20
@something red,
kenny dalglish had 5 wins out of his last 19 league games with 4 recognised strikers available.

brendan rodgers is undefeated in 8 league games with 1 recognised striker available.

all i'm really saying is rodgers currently deserves more credit than you've given him.

FSG is still searching KK to ask for the 80 mill...
they are poor in football.but even they have understood whats downing, adam, henderosn and caroll will cost any club in the world..

FSG hit the self destruct button when they sacked Kenny.

I heard Henry being interviewed recently he said Kenny knew he was only temporary until they got a mgr. that suited their long term objective if so why give Kenny 100M?

Just heard FSG will likely accept 40m plus bids for Suarez in Jan and the summer. If true i can see a lot of empty seats in the stands no need to expand.

You have heard nothing of the sort. You are simply a troublemaker!

He has seen the article either on twitter or in the daily star. There's no basis of fact to this made up rumour. Maybe it is an effort to try and de-rail Suarez who is on a hot streak at the moment.

If FSG do accept offer's of 40 mil for Luis then we are defo for sale! Lowering the wage bill then selling our star player for a profit! But then Luis has to agree to leave! These owner's really hav'nt got a clue! They employed Rodger's as a yes man not to cause them any trouble! One of them come's out a few month's ago and say's we can compete with anyone financially! A few week's ago say's the fan's are gonna be happy with who buy in the transfer window! Then Rodger's come's out with balancing the book's and there's not going to be much transfer activity at Anfield in January! We are a laughing stock with these owner's! As another poster said soneone else would of bought us and saved us! They think the Red Sox are more global than LFC! {Ed002's Note - No one ever mentioned anything about competing "financially". This is the problem that comes with hanging off every word and the reading between the lines.}

However loyal Luis is, and he is sticking with us at the moment. A time must come when he considers his age and wonders if he will win anything of note.
When this happens, he will want to go elsewhere. Who could blame him ?
He will probably review his situation in the summer.

Boston Red

So Ed002 Tom Werner never came out and said we can compete with anyone? I beg to differ! he did come out and said those word's as i've typed them! And hanging off every word? He is our chairman and part owner! He was not talking about another team he was talking about LFC Which me and 99% of other's who frequent this site are LFC fan's! Why would he come out and use those word's if that was not the case? He did come out with those word's and i'm not hanging off them i saw the interview myself! {Ed002's Note - Tom Werner probably regrets every single word uttered to the press about Liverpool - no doubt he will be driven from the club reasonably soon by the fans who certainly need to reflect on the lack of attendance at games by the owners.}

Ed002 You said in a reply to my first post that no one came out and said anything about competing financially with anyone! Then when i corrected you you then give a sly dig about Tom Werner being forced out by his and John Henry's lack of attendence! Plus Mr.Werner is a very successful buisness man so with making a statement in the media the fan's are going to hold him to it! But what i don't understand is your little dig? {Ed002's Note - You misread what I said. I certainly did not have any sort of "dig" at Tom Werner nor Henry.}

Ed hanging off every word mate is only way we know whats going on.Surely fsg make these statements to keep us in loop {Ed002's Note - Sure but not to have every sentence disected. Eventually it will end up with little more than press releases.}

I believe Werner said we have the 'resources' to compete with anyone. This does not necessarily mean piles and piles of money.

We have a very good academy, good coaching staff, an excellent fan base, and I believe are currently the 9th largest club in the world in terms of revenue. This is what he meant, not that we would spend tens of millions of pounds on players every single transfer window to appease constant moaners. {Ed002's Note - You are right, that is what he said. The problem is that some people are deaf and blind to it.}

Downing scored a screamer against Anzhi, Joe Cole had a great game against Young Boys. That's where we should have left it with both players? They should not have played again for Liverpool as your only as good as your last game we would've had a better chance of getting rid of them in January for a reasonable amount.
Instead there now seems to be a directive to showcase them? Only problem with that is? There both painfully inconsistent and disinterested and consequently the more you play them the opposite effect of what your trying to achieve with them is happening? ie "The more they play the less there worth." Leave both of them out of the squad and just get rid for whatever in January.
kidmillions

But then again Downing might score two screamers against Spurs and Cole might be man of the match. Just being facetious.
Players should be picked on merit first and tactics second and IMO that wouldn't even get them a place on the bench.

Can't believe some of the posts on here , anyone who thinks there is any club on the planet that would pay any fee at all for Gerrard is living in some sort of fantasy world .

I am not referring to his current form , which is dreadful , but the fact that he is 33 in May . Someone below was talking about £15m for goodness sake . I sometimes wonder if people arrive from Mars in the morning , discover football in the afternoon and start posting on here in the evening .

Briliant post lad

Spot on... love it!

Pity you didn't leave a name, a good, sensible post.

We are not Barca! We are Liverpool, we can't pass the way they do, we haven't got the players. The way I see it we are in danger of becoming the new arsenal, yes pretty football but no end product. Ask there fans what they would rather, a trophy or pretty football? This is MY opinion, we are passing with no end product, we don't look like we want to do anything with the ball. Downing is a lost boy at anfield, he can't deal with being at us, cole had 1 alright game and suddenly ppl can see him helping, sahin is not strong enough. Some of the formations and team selections have had me scratching my head. And just to finish off, what the hell has happened to jack Robinson? The last I saw him he had Walcott in his back pocket and not seen him since

Im a fairly young fan but ever since i have been watching liverpool we have always played pretty football so i havent seen a major change. We are just playing 433 or 4231 which is what we played under rafa anyway. This is also the best way of playing anyway.

433 is overused in the modern game, i can see it fading out and being replaced with another system that will be flavour of the......... A period of time.

Original poster 100% correct.no end product mostve time.sarcastic comments galore being made on all footy shows by ex players re.overplaying and passing stats-rightly so.Barca finish-we dont

Barca are also a lot further into this system/culture than we are. We are a third of a season into it. Give it time guys. A third of a season isnt patience or time enough to become what we want to be. We will need squad adjustments and time. I am not saying that we will be Barca however the model and style makes sense.

when fsg bought us they had a plan, they brought in comolli to handle their plan.
fsg believed that the amount that they gave comolli to spend would be enough to get top 4.
generate more money from the cl and spend it wisely on younger players.
comolli got fired because their money got wasted.
now FSG went to plan B.
fsg now needs to sell downing/henderson/carroll and replace them with better quality.
they have brought the wage bill down there must be money for wages.
Cl money is essential it will give us a larger transfer kitty, the next 5 weeks are very important if we are not to far behind the 4th spot fgs might spend more than we expect.
if we are too far behind they will spend it in summer.
They know the squad needs a cash injection sooner or later.

First Werner says we'll be spending. Now B.R alluding we won't.Lets hope its Kidology from B.R.Because we all know 1/2 forwards, winger, and domaneering midfielder required (At least 4 midfielders weve got aint up to it)
Just hope this-were buying/no were not!-aint another Transfer window hook up/or excuses-in the offing

Steve gs days are lookin numbered unless he pulls his finger out. Hopefully when Lucas returns both our captain fantastic and tiny legs Allen will see a change in form and fortune.

Never wanted to say this but Stevie needs to miss a few games as many times he was just walking around and people find it easy to pass it around him

Gavalaar

I agree. He can still offer something but doesn't deserve to be a guarenteed starter, which he seems to be, especially with the number of players we have in that position. His energy was a big part of his game and he no longer has it.
I think Lucas and Henderson should be the 'legs' in the midfield and the others slot in around them.

A little realism and a few fakts (sorry for the rafa-ism)

We have had a brand new manager in place for not even 6 months yet.

We have a manager who is still working with what is largely someone elses squad.

We have a manager who has asked for our patience in turning things around.

We have a manager who has admitted we are doing everything aside from a lack of penetration in the final third of the pitch.

We have a manager who was disappointed in the last transfer window as much as we the fans were.

We have fans who claim to be the best and most knowledgeable in Europe who constantly berate other clubs for sacking managers too soon yet most of us seem happy to say Mr rodgers is walking a tightrope after a handful of months/games.

We apparently have a famous Anfield atmosphere that everyone said they preferred to keep rather than move yet the atmosphere is anything but famous right now and i dont see the 'twelfth man' standing up through the wind and the rain.

We have a set of players regardless of if they are leaving in the window trying to fit a new system that will or wont suit theyre needs, im sure the manager knows which ones arent cutting it due to playing a lot of square pegs in round holes and trying to find the magic formula regardless of the thinnest squad in the league.

We have owners who bailed us out at the point of doing a Leeds utd, they got us out of trouble regardless of whether you believe theyve done it to push us forward or whether you think they are in it to make easy money, the next transfer window will confirm one way or another what theyre intentions are.

We have serious issues behind the scenes from bundled transfer announcements to bad scouting, I wont get into the problems with Mr Ayre and his political spin as thats my own opinion....

Regardless of all of this we are still only a half dozen points off top four with the window upcoming.

So Reds fans what do we do?,
do we pull a plastic and stamp our feet because we are the mighty Liverpool or do we sit and accept were now on a different ride and its going to take a little bit of time to get used to a new system a new manager and a new set of players,
we know there will be outgoings in January and we know there will be incomings, but until we see pudding and proof how can we judge?
The facts say we need some new options and the facts say we were let down in the window, the facts also say we are all pretty much on the same page when it comes to not knowing whether the owners intentions are good ones or not...January will tell us one way or another if they have any idea about how we are struggling particularlt when it comes to striking options,
None of us want the dull draws we have been getting and dont be fooled into thinking Rodgers is happy with them either, hes not hes just trying to manage the club and keep the heat off its obvious to see, but with a set of strikers to choose from and not just the one we might just have turned those draws into wins and currently been sat in the top four.

Heres hoping January brings us all a second xmas and we get what were craving...otherwise sites like this will be so full of doom itll be unbearable!

YNWA JFT96 {Ed002's Note -

We have fallen

Well said mate !!!!!!

I fully support Rodgers and believe he is the man that will get us back up there but he has suad there won't be any major signings in January

I thought I was the only one to think that Anfield has got awful quiet over the last year but obviously not.

*Neither Theo Walcot and Daniel Sturridge nor Klaas Jan Huntelaar and Wilfried are the answer to Liverpool's striking problems. A solution will have to be sought elswhere. Where, it isn't immediately clear.

*Brendan Rodgers' future largely hinges on how he deals with the Gerrard conundrum. No doubt the skipper is a good player who can still produce a blinder or two on occasion. And that there is the problem: on occasion. Majority of the time he's, with respect utter gush who hinders and frustrates our play.

Rodgers HAS to limit his role. If ever the was a time he needed to grow a pair, it is now. It's what he signed up for... big time, big decisions.
Wednesday would be the perfect time to start.

*Our play is most aimless, ponderous and with little end-product. Passing for the sake of passing, which is what we do, with distinction, is dull, unproductive and diametrically unintelligent.

Passes that matter are those that are incisive and advance the play, made in the last 3rd of the pitch. We don't make such passes and hardly cut through the opposition. There's no meaningful purpose to this 'pass, pass, pass' 'dominate possession'.
What it's doing is make good players look garbage.
I'm unconvinced it's ever going to work out, not least because we may not be playing that way in the near future as I can see Rodgers being given his marching orders.

*Right now we are the 8th best team, behind Chelsea, Utd, City, Arsenal, Spurs, Everton and Newcastle, so adjust your expectations. I don't see that we'll be competing in any of Uefa's compos next season, unless we win the Europa, unlikely imo. Damage will already be too great by the time Rafa comes in to replace Rodgers, having himself being sacked at Chelsea.

G.A. Aldo

Superb post

I watched City and Chelsea they were same? 0-0 Who whould have thought that with all the star players?? Torres,Aguero,Mata,Hazard,Silva,Dzeko, Tevez, etc millions and millions worth of talent and hardly a shot on target?!! Couldn't believe it? Only watched it because it was on sky? What a waste of my time that was? Bunch of overpaid mercenaries 0-0 last time I watch that chite!!.
Think I'll stick to watching my team LFC (at least we hit the woodwrk, had perfectly good goal chalked off and had plenty of efforts on goal) and enjoy watching the young players and the progress were making. Not happy with our league position but in the circumstances and taking in to account we are improving and currently unbeaten in 8, this is reasonably progress as I never thought it would happen overnight and anyone that did is a fool.
kidmillions

Actually we are on a par with everton newcastle arsenal and spurs. This means that realistically we can finish 4th at best which is what we are rightfully targeting. However we are not close to the quality of chelsea man u and man c but with chelsea looking shaky like last year then maybe they will give all these teams 3rd to try and get. However that is ofcourse if they drop like they did last year but they mightnt.

26 Nov 2012 06:12:12
FSG's two mistakes that are costing lfc dearly. One transfer window and second BR appointment.
BR is ok with draws that he claims is progress. LFC doesn't need such managers who think they are a mid table team and draws are good enough. After all he has never managed a big team, what would he understand.
FSG don't have the know how of football, a clear indication on their appraoch in the past windows. They are only waiting for an invester to put in an offer to make profit and jet back to the US.
Sad but facts are we are going backwards at an alarming rate. Fans have had enough of these excuses and BR needs to go home to small teams where draws will be accepted and he can claim progress being made.

When are you going to understand?

LFC is not the massive club it used to be.

It can be with the right plan but right now it's an aspiring mid-table club spending mid-table money.

I suggest you get used to it as it's going to be a long ride back to the top.

Now....you will either support the team or you wont. The details of your arguments (you may be right or wrong) are irrelevant.

The players have a job to do, the gaffer has a job to do and the "supporters" have a job to do. Now either get to work or sod off somewhere else.

The linesman got it wrong.
kidmillions

Stupid post. Draws are progress. Last season alot of clubs were confident of getting 3 points againts us. Br has turned us into a well organised team who are hard to beat. We are now unbeaten in 8 league games. If we dont lose to spurs we have a run of games of southampton whu villa fulham stoke qpr and sunderland. A chance there of a 16 league games unbeaten. Even after a poor start we have only lost 3 league games. The same as utd and arsenal and 2 less than spurs. The only thing stopping them draws from being wins is another striker to help suarez with goals which is hardly br fault.

Gaz

Excellent reply...
but whats the solution...we cant be arsenal producing young players from academy and throwint them directly into PL...I am afraid. in two seasons if we dont finish top 4.
we can see sterling suso leaving the club..and honestly we cant blame them..
common they are automatic choice coz we dont have players to fight fot the place...
In KK I ll never evr trust...how can you waste over 80 mill....

Gaz: And the linesman, everton/swansea
kidmillions

True kidmillions if those 2 goals had stood and without the poor decisions that went against us in utd game we would be very close to top 4.

Gaz

Yes the linesmen because they are they are following orders which is costing teams not just LFC points every week the directive from uefa was that the forward is given the benifit of doubt in their favour. Our goal yesterday enrique arm was in front of the defender not his whole body prime example of giving the benefit of doubt to the forward them points could cost LFC millions of pounds and other teams because of a rule which has grey areas like a player can stand on the goal line in front of the ball along side the opposing keeper and another of his players scores and it is given like I have seen many times on tv .Gaining an advantage is your whole body being in front of the defender not you big toe or your wrist or go back to when your offside your all off side {Ed002's Note - You have misunderstood something - certainly the meaning of "benefit of doubt" and probably some other things also. Nothing is costing Liverpool "millions of pounds".}

Can't help but feel Ramirez would have been worth it at £14mill compared to joe Allen at £15mill. I watched both at the Olympics and Ramirez was head and shoulders more talented than Joe. Lets hope when Lucas comes back joe really has the potential BR sees in him. Otherwise all the signings BR has made are flops. Sahin is world class no doubt but he seems so inconsistent after his injury. Assaidi seems to be favoured as a squad player and when we bring in joe cole instead of Assaidi or suso, I tend to question our ambition. Joe Allen started this season brilliantly but then everyone figured him out and he is not fit to touch inestas boots let alone lace them up. Borini...well what can you say, the mighty ngog made more of an impact. Lets hope BR doesn't bring in players he knows from now on because they seem to get to comfortable (sigurdsoon has been terrible at spurs).

He had a good game yesterday? So your post is no surprise and was fully expected:)

LFC Targets

Wingers:
Tom Ince-£6m
Kevin Grosskreutz-£8m
Dries Mertens-£12m
Wilfred Zaha-£15m
Daniel Sturridge-£9m
Jeffern Suarez-Loan
Theo Walcott-£8m

Strikers:
Klass-Jan Huntelaar-£7m
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang-£9m
Wilfred Bony-£10m
Heung-Min Son-£7m
Leandro Damiao-£20m
Gary Hooper-£10m
Charlie Austin-£5m

Ill have daomioa 20m on his own please. Then maybe an isco 15m in the summer and that will do nicely. Perhaps a wee bit of chance on mvilla 5m. Cole and downing out for about 8 million and a respectable offer for henderson aswell.

I think Bobadilla from Young Boys would be a great asset to our squad. He's strong, good on the ball, scores goals, would be cheap and possibly play well along Suarez.
What do you all think?

I agree, he looked a beast of a player and realy stood out.

You see one game, most prob on tv and because a particular player has a good game you think we should buy him? with logic like that we should buy hundreds of players

So where does everyone see us in 5 years time?

I see us in a redeveloped anfield.
top 4 regulars.
challenging for the league, champions league, domestic cups.
In a better financial position than most of our rivals.
Playing great attacking football with some of the greatest footballing talents on the planet like sterling and suso.
An accademy churning out young stars quicker than we can play them.
Actually making a profit?

Who knows?
We can always dream.

MIKEY

Take it fsg are selling the club and pep guardiola coming then .and all within this week .cant wait

And what makes you think guardiola would be a succes in the premier league? He has only ever been involved with Barcelona who had all these great players there before he became manager.Even i could manage that team

26 Nov 2012 02:42:56
I honestly think Gerrard is playing games ,if he plays real well he will be expected to stay in that position,he is just doing enough so we win the ball ,he looks bored and i bet he cant wait till lucas is strong and back in ist team ,Gerrards legs havent gone its his drive thats gone ,he needs to be let off leash to start terrorizing defenders again and i believe we will see a HAPPIER Stevie and a better liverpool -SALLY-

He should put in 110% even if hes asked to play left back, I dont accept that at all. Gerrard is getting older, his performance level is dropping constantly and he needs a massive wake up call. I would drop him for the spurs game. Make him sit on the bench an see if he becomes hunger to get his place back or throws the dummie out. Then you could make a decsion.

Also I know we dont have any midfielders bett at the minute but at least Hendo Allen and Shelvey show a bit of fight and drive for the team

Hi Eds, trust you are all well.
My apologies if these questions have been answered already.
What ban would Suarez get if he receives another yellow card.
Is the buyout clause really £40m.
His loss would be devastating.

It is painfully obvious that LFC are truly 'a one man band' in the scoring and goals dept. We were very average against Swansea, illustrating just how poor this team really is.
The sooner some and certain players leave (in jan hopefully) the happier I will be.
Our position after 13 games is somewhat flattering, because if your ignore LS's contributions, the real ability (absolute lack of it) is very evident.
Politely put, the team without LS would struggle to score against 3rd and 4th division teams.
We are just awfulm {Ed002's Note - (1) One game. (2) This has been answered as best I can already and should be easy to find with the search engine.}

This why shelvey was tried up front. the ban is probably coming soon.

Why wont b r give Ngoo a go upfront? Morgan and Yesil maybe better players but unlike Ngoo, their phisiques aint ready for Prem leauge.no ones gona bully Ngoo off the ball

26 Nov 2012 01:11:03
Boot room blarney - stuff a draw against spurs ,im sick of draws, i hope we go all out for a win i would like to see more numbers forward in the box if we lose fair enough but we have got to just go for it draws are for bores and one point is not much good rather have 3 ,a draw is for the old days when a win was only 2 points,i would love to smash spurs as they are small club pretending to be a big club and i cant wait till Jan when maybe we can put this striker crisis to bed once and for all .

Sorry mate I think draws away from home are fine if your winning your home games ,but we have won three all season . And spurs are a team we can only hope to match in the two seasons ,because they've overtaken us and are well in front now

I thought in the second half against Swansea we got more numbers in the box than we have for a long time.

problem is we never get the ball in there, we check out and start all over again and then can't find that killer pass - it's doing us big time and as a midfield player if you keep making runs into the Box and the ball doesn't come in then you'll soon stop making those runs...

Played 38.Won 0. Drew 38. Lost 0...Pts 38.
Played 38.Won 19. Drew 0. Lost 19..Pts 57

It makes sense to go for the win. manutd top of the league and lost 3 games already, city unbeaten? 2nd:

Im afraid its not that simple kidmillions. Its not often 2 points dropped but sometimes a point gained.

we need a top class forward/wnger

to play the role to the left of suarez

a player who is equally adept at playing wide or centrally, but its vital that he is a proven goal threat and is pacy.

gerrard needs to play only one game a week in behind luis and not deeper. should be rectified when lucas is back hopefully. jonjo needs to deputise for gerrard on all other games apart from weekend premier league games. he looks hungry for goals. i wouldnt mind starting with jonjo advanced of allen and sahin against spurs

tom1975

26 Nov 2012 01:24:33
Schurrle could be a perfect player for this role, young talent with pace to burn, able to play as a winger or a center forward. Not the most experience or "top class" but he will be great.

Jolly Red

Why would he want to come to liverpool.

Why would anybody ?

Seemingly Ramirez at Souyhampton and Dempsey at Spurs had excellent games-arrgggghhhhhhh

Dempsey hasn't played that well all season. One good game out of many where he has been completely missing won't convince me I'm afraid. I do feel like Ramirez would have played a massive role this season had he signed for LFC, that said, I'm from Southampton so was happy to see him go there and am glad that man is doing well.

ChrisMiz

Yes the both played really well today

I think Ramirez could be a target for next summer.

Let's hope Southampton go down otherwise he won't be leaving St Mary's.

I think Adam Lallana looks a talent I hope we are monitoring him - Are we ?

Very underrated player, but with the money Southampton now have behind them, I can't see him going for anything less that £15m and at that price it's a bit of a risk. Very tricky and clever player, he and Ramirez have a good understanding.

Just wondering what everyone's opinion is of Enrique at LM/LW?

Ignoring the Downing situation, I'm loving him playing there, he has the right attributes and can defend if called upon.

ChrisMiz

Really impressed with him at lw, makes the right runs into the box when sterling crossesalmost like a natural centre forward, should have been 2 goals in 2 games and you cant argue with that. really worked hard both offensively and defensively

well done enrique

tom1975

He still gets caught on the ball a lot which frustrates me but other than that he has been impressive

It's an experiment that's worked much better than I would have expected. His ability to go from the box trying to score all the way back to making a good tackle in our box immediately after is very impressive. Wish others would work so hard... Would love to know his average distance covered in each game- it's got to be up there.

25 Nov 2012 23:23:40
Holy crap...the only thing I am thinking of is...how the hell can we contain bale on wednesday..I would be ecstatic if we get a draw there

Over the past three season , modric has made a tool of our midfield, thankfully he wont be there this time. i think we can go there and win, def get a draw

Bale tends to contain himself. Spurs probably should have sold him for big money when they had a chance, I think.

25 Nov 2012 23:17:33
Not the worst result in the end but my biggest complaint was that is was so boring. I love to see us maintain possession and tire the opposition out with quick, short passing but we are sadly lacking in speed and incisiveness when we're on the attack. We need to break quickly and in numbers when we regain the ball in defence and give the crowd something to get excited about. I lost count of the number of times we stole possession and then passed sideways or to Reina while Swansea got their defence in order. We have the makings of a good side and we're not losing many games but, apart from the second half at vs Wigan (and the odd bit of Suarez genius), it has been marginally more interesting than watching wallpaper dry recently.
