Major improvement today for sure. Sterling definitely looks like a star in the making. Just needs to mature physically and get stronger. What we really need is a player like him who is in his prime. I think in a perfect world Sterling this year would mostly be a sub. Thats not a knock on him, I just think at this point thats the best role for him. Think of Sterling with all his pace and energy coming into a game ion the 70th minute when its tied.

Allen looks like he could be a stalwart of this club for a very long time. Seems to always make the smart play and is always in the right spot. I think it will be interesting how Rodgers will select the team with Sahin. The four of them, Gerrard, Allen, Lucas and Sahin will all certainly be among the 11 best players on the squad. Gerrard could play in the front 3 some I think.

Lucas is injured atm so they'll all start now.

A sub? It's called a squad for a reason he will start some games and the bench the other. After today I am hoping he get's many more starts he was causing all sorts of trouble.

Sorry mate but for me sterling has to be given his chance. He got something about him and his young coming through the ranks was encouraging for us to watch but I also think it gives the players a kick around him. He looked good. He has had two full tough games in a row and arguably one of our hardest of the league against City and he was one of our best players. All credit to the lad and BR for going off form for once.

Jordan

It wouldn't surprise me if Rodgers starts limiting Gerrard's minutes by playing Sahin off the bench or using Gerrard as an impact sub

Any eds who knows if Sterling31 is his real official account? He seems pretty pleased about the fans and about the club.
DanielDenmark {Ed001's Note - he does have a twitter account, not sure what it is though.}

Sterling31 is his official account. Legally if it's not you the person isn't allowed to call one. Also Enrique, Shelvey and Lucas have tweeted to him before.

RedKopite

It is indeed his real one, fellow players follow him etc
Cal

Yeah its on official lfc syt

Yeah that's his official twitter account

The future is bright the future is RED the youngest squad since 2003. A couple more signings and I think we're on are way a very very optimistic red.

P.s am I the only one that thinks maybe Gerrard may have had his time

Great work by the way eds roll on 31st

Bangor eye dave YNWA

If your saying gerrard hasnt got a place in the team then yes you are an person

James Owens YnWa

Gerrard controls midfield tempo. He will still be our top midfield player this season. Next season I'm not to sure...

26 Aug 2012 22:51:21
hi eds. i dont really think we need another striker. i think borini will do well for us. he looked very promising today against city. i think everyone has forgotton that he is still in his early 20's. i think we need a top class winger. sterling played well today but i dont see BR playing him a lot this season. i think BR should go for affelay or navas. thanks

What the heck were you watching?? Borini looked completely out of place on
the big stage.

Not at all sure about him.

That said and notwithstanding the obvious errors...FANTASTIC performance from our squad. Repeat that performance 37 more times and CL here we come.

26 Aug 2012 22:46:58
did anyone else notice in todays game coverage, that when lucas was on bench - police man had a word with him? then lucas looked like he said a whatever hand gesture, what happened?

The police officer was relaying a message from his wife to see if he was ok apparently

I noticed it too, no idea what happened though.

RedKopite

Thats rude of Lucas if that was the case. I hate people that shoot down the messenger

Policeman asked lucas if he wanted tea or coffee lucas replied whatever.

According to the Moose (not always reliable) on talksport, Fulham are ready to sell Dempsey but not to Liverpool because of what has happened. Sunderland are ready to step in & snap him up.

Gav the Red {Ed001's Note - not always reliable? He is just full of rubbish, the man (and I use that word in the loosest sense of the term) just makes up lies day after day.}

He was the one that said Allen was going to UTD the day before he signed for us...

26 Aug 2012 23:47:09
in my opnion in the few minute caroll had today it showed why we should keep him, yes we did lump balls up front but it also showed that we have a plan b and that we can play another way if needed if it only is route 1, thats what he's there for. carroll shiould stay he can be a part of this team which can be a title winning tem in a few seasons.
huddz red.
p.s watched the avengers again on dvd, wha an aswesome film. even better second time round

Great performance today, deserved the victory. Hope the "trolls" on here dont blame BR for not winning. Great atmosphere as well, hope that remains for the rest of the home matches this season.

Haven't been on hear all night! Still buzzing from our earlier performance, watching some of the football we played made me hard! Lol Great to see all the positive comments on here too! Only negative for me was lack of finishing again from borini n suarez (although his freekick was amazing), i believe dempsey could play a massive part in our team if we continue to pursue him after everything thats happened with fulham, do you honestly believe we will sign him eds? I really, really hope so! Bring on hearts thursday now, cannot wait to watch our team in action again! Well done to everyone at liverpool football club, things are looking up! Exciting times ahead!
Ps please tell me the sturridge rumours are bs eds?

hey eds do you think were in a lot of debt weve been throwing around alot of money lately do you know the exact figure we are in debt in if any

Liverpool Transfers IN:

Dempsey
Sturridge

Liverpool Transfers OUT:

Cole
Adam
Spearing
Doni?

It would be one of the best transfers windows for us if this happened.

The Rectangle

You claim to be itk and don' yet know if doni left.
derryred

Add Pacheco and downing to the out list then it will be.

Why would we have: Suarez borini assaidi Carroll sterling downing dempsy and strurige Pacheco Morgan all playing for 3 positions.

Morgan should go out on loan for a season for experience. Pacheco needs to be moved on to make space even though he was impressive I don't think he can deliver. It would be out of Carroll and downing for the third to be shipped out, let's face it Carroll looks the most likely to go but downing actually deserves to go. Plus if we're bringing in Sturridge the most likely position he will play is downing place.

Dempsey for cold replacement (cole was going to be our utility man who can come on as a sub for gerrard in the cam role or play on either wing, dempsy will hopefully be brought in to do that.

Up top we would have Suarez borini assaidi sterling Carroll Sturridge (2 strikers 4 wingers).

Ive just been told by my friend a welsh journo that dempsey imminent deal will happen.

26 Aug 2012 23:17:52
Quick one... Why buy borini as a striker and play him out wide, hope he not another dirk. Wingers play too wide leaving luis who is not the goal machine too isolated. It's no surprise our goals came from set pieces. We need a goal scorer before the window ends. Otherwise fantastic performance. Joe Allen, wow!
FowlerisGod

Called an outside forward I believe, he is mobile, hard working and once he starts to finish I think you may see why!

Hey Guys i heard we had a great performance all round, I expected it to be honest. I missed the game and i recorded but i'm still at work. Was Sahin unveiled to the fans? How serious is Lucas's injury? I feel for him but this is why we need strength and depth guys unlike last season. YNWA ERNIE

would fans take 2 million for cole

I'd personally be happy to just get his wages off of our books- so yes for me...

He might be unlucky, but 37p and two packets of cheese and onion crisps would be a bargain right now.
ND

Would let someone have him for free. His wages are astronomical, 100k+ a week. He's amongst the top earners at the club, that's why no one wants him.

RedKopite

On my hands and knees.
derryred

Id take nothing and get his 100k a week of the payroll

I would sell Cole for free if we could take all his wages off our books

Bleeds Red

I would sell him on a free just to get rid of his ridiculous wages

Do like Aquilani. Take the money pay for the difference his wages and out of our book for good. Bye...

Didn't see the game today but by all accounts it was a pretty open game and we played well. I was pleasantly surprised to see Coates and Sterling start. Its great for all the other youth players to see one of their group starting in a big game and will hopefully raise those players games thereby putting pressure on those in the first team squad.

Was concerned before the match at our CB options so would be interested to hear how Coates performed especially from those who were at the match??

Coates was very steady mate, had a good game.

Coates played well, one or two shaky moments, but overall id give him an 8. For me Skrtel was MOTM for 80 mins and made 1 mistake which cost us.

Coates had a shaky first 25 mins and then settled. Mind you the team had a shaky first 25 mins and then settled too!
The atmosphere was electric so who can blame them

Come on the RedMen. An exciting season ahead

SwissRed in Toronto

He did really good, he was solid throughout the match......I think he goes to ground a little to early (slide tackle) but in this match he didnt do much wrong. A really solid performance against the likes of Tevez, Ballo and Dzeko. He won a countless number of headers and he was calm on the ball and distributed really well. I think sterling stole the spotlight and thats why people arnt saying anything about coates. I think everyone that watched the match including eds they will agree he played well.

Hi eds and fellow reds,
Marseille saying that they need to sell players and have mentioned Loïc Rémy. Remember him saying he would love to play for Liverpool last year, any chance of getting him in eds?
thanks Jay ynwa {Ed002's Note - It is a year old rumour - sorry.}

26 Aug 2012 22:27:09
1 more striker please.

26 Aug 2012 22:18:10
I think the only way Carrol will be sold to Newcastle is if we get a major player in exchange because newcastle can't afford to pay £20mil plus.
The only player that would interest us would be Tiote as cover for Lucas.
(by the way fingers crossed for Lucas's injury not being too bad, and I hope this does not become a regular occurence for him, just when he starts to play his best football and the fans are loving him he picks up that injury, a really nice guy as well)

Maybe santon cover for left back

Maybe cisse if you all say we need a goal scorer

Ask for cisse, anyone else they can pay

26 Aug 2012 22:02:30
Credit to br for not picking carra and playing Coates and sterling. He is a man who believes in himself. Be patient, we are a work in progress. He has given us hope when maybe some of us were beginning to loose faith. We played good stuff today, better than we have for along time. Practice and luck will get us where want to be.
Red first & last.

26 Aug 2012 21:59:54
A Point.

Amazing how skrtel played when for a new contract compared with after the ink is dry on one?

Should reina have been the last one back to training? 1 after last season & 2 having not played in euros.

Apart from the aforementioned an excellent performance than other for individual errors should have been 3 points, full stop.

Well done BR we played some good stuff, Allen MoM & suarez genius.

Bitter sweet.

Jimbob

Skrtel had a good game though, just because he made 1 mistake doesn't mean he didn't play well.

Skrtel wasn't bad.
derryred

In regards to Reina he was late back to Training because of the Euros not because he needed to rest from playing but because he didnt get a holiday because he was with the squad

Absolutel RIDICULOUS post...

Yes, Skertl made a mistake--he would be the first person to admit that--but, to suggest he is resting on his laurels after signing his contract is absurd.

He is one of our best and most committed players...today was no exception.

26 Aug 2012 21:59:53
Thought we were excellent today. Bossed the game for pretty much 90 minutes against the champions and made them look average. Although the mistake was mainly down to Skrtel, I it is partly down to Phil Dowd's poor refereeing. Had Agger been playing he would have played on the left of Skrtel and probably clipped it down the line being left footed instead of turning back!

So far Phil Dowd has been accountable for 3 of our 5 goals conceded!

Onwards and upwards.

Young Southern Red.

Pretty sure it was Andre marriner who was ref!

Danski

Danski read the post ya dingus :D
redskins

Wow...you just reduced Coates' assured performance to nothing

Not sure I reduced it to nothing, he was reasonably assured but had a few shaky moments he is not the finished article Agger is but that is to be expected. If you watch the whole game again he made a mistake against Balotelli that led to a dangerous free kick and had a tendancy to dive in at the City players feet a lot. He isn't the quickest and that stopped him getting back to clear Tevez's goal off the line. That is being picky however as I did think he did a good job in a tough game but you can't say he is better than Agger as he is still developing. Having said that he could go on to be better, who knows.

Young Southern Red.

He talks about red card to Dagger in last PL game

I think Sturridge is going to sing for Liverpool not sure when but I think he will

Really? What's he going to sing?

What is he going to sing?

What's he going to sing ?

That like the Eurovision song contest just a bit more local?

Really happy with today's performance from the lads.
Few Points:
1. How young is our side now? Allen,Jonjo,Kelly,Sterling,Borini,Lucas, Suarez,Coates,Enrique, all 25 yrs and under.
2. Same problem remains with shooting our selves in the foot at the back. You cant expect Brendan to eradicate this problem overnight but it has already cost us points this season.
3. We have a problem when we score a goal and then sit back and not play in the same way that got us the goal! This problem also pre dates Brendan so I don't lay the blame at his door.
All in all I am very impressed with the direction were heading in. Serling played a fantastic match for a 17 yr old and Joe Allen played like he has been in our midfield all his life.... Win against Arsenal and Hearts this week and I will be buzzing.
jonnybarnes89-90

I have to disagree i thought when we scored we didnt sit back we still dictated play

26 Aug 2012 21:46:06
Reina will have harder training sessions than he had today. Liverpool actually created more chances for Citeh than Citeh did for themselves. Now, i could take the positives on how we competed extremely well with the league champions, but that would only be worth something if Liverpool go on and dominate and beat lesser teams. The jury is still open on that count! We have all been here before!

The Irish Rover

Spot on Rover.Sunderland away looks tricky and City were far from at full strength.Solid performance today but lets not get carried away just yet !! B

Battering teams, but missing too many goal-scoring opportunities? Lacking confidence.

Not closing games out when we should? Lacking confidence.

Playing well against 'big' teams but not getting motivated enough for the 'wee' guys? Lacking confidence.

Adam, Downing, Carroll, Henderson, Spearing, Cole etc all under-performing? Lacking confidence.

Making silly mistakes at the back? Lacking confidence.

Blaming bad luck, the ref or the woodwork? Lacking confidence

Falling apart when we lose the first goal against the run of play or have a man sent off? Lacking confidence.

Home crowd goes quiet and starts to get on the players' backs? Lacking confidence.

So please Mr Rodgers, let's build on a fantastic performance against City by playing our first team against Hearts and really going for the jugular. What's the worst that can happen - that we tan them 6 or 7-nil? 'Cos I'd have no complaints with that whatsover!

And it would give the lads and the home crowd a bit of a confidence boost before the Arsenal game. I can't remember the last time we had 7 or 8 straight wins or went 15-20 games unbeaten. I can't even remember when we last stuck with the same squad for 4/5 games.

But that's what has really hurt us in the 10 years and has prevented us from building up some decent confidence. C'mpn, collectively, et's grow a pair.......

For everything else there's mastercard mate.

One thing I really loved about todays game was when Borini gestured to the crowd to up the volume a few decibels!

That's what I want to see; passion.

Good game today, played some brilliant stuff. Shame about the result.

Cheers
Curtiss

Loved that too!

Chi-Paul

Would have preferred to see Borini actually play well...had a horrible touch and far too many giveaways today. Needs big time improvement if he is to live up to his billing.

Agreed completely. Know he's getting some stick on here, but I love Borini. The lad oozes passion for the game and at only 21 will only improve. Really wish his shot had been just a few inches closer in today but am confident in time he'll be immense for us.

26 Aug 2012 21:42:09
Proud of every single player out there today and the fans, now thats what i call support keep it up.
mancini said in a interview that do not write off liverpool they can be title contenders and that west brom was a fake game, i thought he was taking the mick, but on todays performance looks like he was serious.
The game itself was brilliant exactly what BR wants dominate and control games.
a couple of players need to improve on the tactical side of game but that will come with more game time, and on the evidence of today if that team can stop city from playing then we really are improving, johnson back on he right, agger to come back , lucas to come back, add Sahin to this with maybe dempsey and few more games for the team to gel together.
maybe im getting too excited now on one performance for some peoples liking, but its not the case. what i was really pleased about was i could really see BR's ideas on the pitch today and it was working and that against the champs dont be fooled by others saying oh city were poor FACT was we dominated them.

Well done LFC.

P.s sahin will bring out the best in a few players.

i think we need 1 more striker if carroll leaves.

Ed1 mate Rumours are flying Rooney has fallen out with Fergie do you think Rvp was bought to replace Rooney eg next season coz even united fans think fergie will sell him for £50M {Ed001's Note - I believe it is more as a warning to get him to buck his ideas up and shed his extra weight. Though if he doesn't, I would not expect him to get any leeway.}

I can't see anyone paying 50M for him... He's been pretty poor for a while now.

26 Aug 2012 21:39:02
Im just wondering who sahin and assaidi would replace in our squad from today?

Assaidi for borini, we need to see how he plays out for a while as well. Both need to get games but assaidi looks like he has better technical ability. Borini has a pretty poor touch.

Sahin for Lucas, I would say this only because Lucas seems like he might be out for a while(hope not).

I'm sure both will play against hearts.

Sahin will play instead of Shelvey

Sahin for Lucas (at least until Lucas gets back to 100%- after that it will be interesting to see). Assaidi probably no one, depending on how Borini/Sterling continue to play. Likely an impact sub for whichever of the two is looking like they need a sub.

Anyone from the bench.....
Tommy.

That's the whole idea mate - it's a squad. The team will be rotated throughout the season depending on the opponents; Sahin and Assaidi won't be replacing anyone as such.

Cuchulainn's Hounds

Instead of shelvey? so on the bench then?

Its a squad game and we have really lacked strong depth over the past whack of years.
derryred

If all our players are healthy...

Sahin will start for Gerrard
Assaidi for Sterling

Gerrard and Sterling both off the bench as impact substitutes

26 Aug 2012 21:17:48
hi eds just a small question do u think gerrard could play upfront now we have sahin to fill in for him he would thrive on the supply from suarez and borini on the wings {Ed001's Note - I think he could, but why would you want to drop Sterling right now? Though it would be good to have him and his ability to head the ball up front for a different option at times.}

Personally I'd love to see Gerrard as one of our front 3 - he can easily play left, right or centre in my opinion and like Ed001 says, his heading ability would give us something different rather than having 3 guys who are much less than 6 foot tall upfront.

I wouldn't see it as "dropping" Sterling though Ed. Young players shouldn't be playing week in, week out if you ask me because it can make them highly injury prone in the future. It doesn't always happen but there has been cases of teenagers getting played too much at a young age then getting injured lots in the future career - heck look at Michael Owen for example, and I think it's happening with Jack Wilshere now.

It doesn't happen always, the likes of Rooney and Messi played a fair bit of football even as teens yet aren't injury prone but like I say, there are some players that have been ruined due to being overplayed at a young age. I do not want this to happen to a talented player such as Raheem Sterling, as much as I do want him to play lots of matches.

What do you think Ed001?

Reid the Red {Ed001's Note - that is how I see it too, but I just meant you can't really put him up there right now, Sterling deserves a few games to find his feet, before having a rest. Borini needs time to settle in, so right now I don't see moving Gerrard forward as a good idea. I do think it could be useful later in the season though, or towards the end of games, as Sterling was clearly shot after 80min or so.}

In reply Ed I think we have to be smart with Sterling and not over play him. He's great and deserves his place in the team right now. But the last time we had a young player with his ability was Owen and I believe we overplayed him at a young age which contributed to his latter injury problems. I'm sure Brendan has this all in hand but the kid still needs some nurturing and it would be terrible if he started picking up injuries while he's still developing. Not a criticism Ed just my opinion for what it's worth, keep up the good work. {Ed001's Note - I agree, but a run of 5 or 6 games is not going to wear him out. By the end of those games, like all young players, his form will no doubt have dropped, so it is the perfect time to pull him out of the team.}

Don't disagree necessarily, but Suarez, Borini, and Gerrard are all about 6' I believe. Know it doesn't look that way necessarily, though.

26 Aug 2012 21:06:09
Guyz if we play the way we played 2day can't wait against man united especially with their average midfield we should support our team they will need time to adapt the systeam which rodgers want remember once we adapt we are going to play very atractive footy and win matches

We played good but any one can see where we are in need of better players , left back and a goal scorer please.

26 Aug 2012 21:04:50
Would like to point out to those speaking of back passes costing us and silly errors, it has been highlighted that it will take time for Brendan Rodgers' system to be fully implemented and these are merely mistakes being made as we make our transition, nothing to majorly worry about, it is expected.
On a more positive note we are showing we can play, and have a set of players who can play the system and are willing to, which is most important. Very impressed with BR's use of Sterling, shows he is not scared to use youth and with our wealth of young talent this could prove very efficient and important to us, short and long term.
Just remember to accept the mistakes, we are still growing and learning.
YNWA.
Cal

Big projects always have small errors along the way. Arsenal at home next week is going to be a cracker.

Totally agree, I remember Stevie G doing a few of these in the past. To me it seems a lot of the goals we conceded over the past few seasons seem to be through our own mistakes, but we can take many positives out of todays match, it proved we can play and compete against the other top clubs! If we can play like that in such a short period/number of games, I'm looking forward to how it goes when everyone is fit and adapted to the system!

El Diablo!

26 Aug 2012 21:07:19
Nice to see a bit more positivity on this site. A point against City I believe is always a good result. We played well, and can only improve with Sahin, Assaidi and possibly Dempsey coming in. Players are still learning their roles in the team, and the progression seems to be good. I think the loss to west brom was almost needed- a good kick up the backside every now and then often isn't a bad thing. We look forward to the next game against Hearts, then Arsenal. I believe Arsenal are there for the taking at present, we must capitalise.

Rafa's Purple Goatie

P.s great to see Sterling being given his opportunities. Progressing very nicely.

No better than the results at home against them last season or the season before under Kenny. And no goals from open play. The game against Arsenal should be interesting....I might have a fiver on 0-0. If no striker by Friday (or Carroll doesn't get a game; looked much more threatening today with Andy on than Borini) then mid-table mediocrity beckons. And before everyone gets on the Rodgers bandwagon, Swansea have done better so far than under Rodgers and it was Martinez that set them up - Rodgers just took it the extra step (which Martinez would probably have done had he stayed). {Ed001's Note - you do realise that there was a manager in between Martinez and Rodgers don't you?}

Wouldn't it be nice for Sahin to fire home the winner against arsenal next weekend... in injury time...

Cuchulainn's Hounds

Can't understand the criticism of Borini. The lad is very young, playing with a new team, and playing somewhat out of position. He works his socks off and is everywhere and yet still manages to get on the end of passes into the box. He was also within inches of getting his first League goal today. Support him instead of slagging him off and perhaps by the time he's Andy's age he'll be worth 3 times what we paid for him.

Andy carroll isn't better than borini. carroll seems to get into the box and then if the ball isn't given early then he doesn't move for it. Borini is much better in the box.

Hi eds,

do you think Real would have requested that Sahin has to start as part of his loan deal. Not sure where he'll fit in to the midfield or who will be dropped. Do you think the manager will start to phase Gerrard out? Surely he wont be replacing Allen as a regular. {Ed002's Note - They would probably not have done that.}

Its a squad game lots n lots of games LOTS

26 Aug 2012 21:34:32
Those of you slating Gerrard obviously weren't watching the same game. His quick one touch passing is phenomenal and allows the team to break quick. He doesn't go on those marauding runs any more, but he is a different player and for the moment we are stronger with him in the team than without him.

rikdangerous

Stevie gee always for me , ok he is not the same as istanbul but he is still class

He still controls the tempo of Liverpool. I think this season will be his last of his peak.

I've made the comment today that Gerrard is looking average in this team... now, I'm not saying poor and not serving a place but there are players around him that are having a bigger impact - today, Allen kept us ticking over and I can see why BR bought him because he's happy to have the ball and just doesn't give it away....

Agree, but don't play that percentage stuff outside your own box!!

Hes clearly an immense player, some goons on ere were slating. clueless, awesome he was

Ruined it by the end "we may not finish top 4" mate I believe we could be title contenders. People will say that's in realistic but we just completely out played man c I can't stand fans that don't believe we will finish top 4. How can the team believe that if the fans don't? Rant over

If we can maintain today's level of performance for the entire season and eradicate the silly mistakes then i see no reason why we cant win the title. We are now fast approaching the required level of quality and strength in depth as a squad to make a serious challenge. Here's hoping !! B

Dempsey and a striker as it stands most likely sturridge will come.
Adam Spearing Doni Pacheco and Carrol should all go. Shelvey may be loaned back to Blackpool with a callback option. Cole could be off to QPR if he takes a paycut. West ham a possiblity but the wage cut would be a lot bigger.
Suso and Coady should be loaned.
Depending on extent of Lucas injury Fsg may free up funds to make a move for Britton or Granero.
Isco or Ramirez may be brought in if there is still money left.
Cheers Eds Great site.

Lol is that Doni and Pacheco or Dani Pacheco spelt wrong!

RedKopite

I would prefer to get rid of downing than Carroll, then strurige would be a good replacement for him. Carroll is a striker not a winger and if we're not going in for another class striker we might as well keep Carroll. Suarez borini assaidi sterling Carroll and strurige/Dempsey (sturige is a better replacement for that position).

Suso and Morgan I agree with although I would love to see suso get game time, I want him to get more game time so a year on loan for both is good.

Outs spearing, Pacheco, Adam, downing and cole if a buyer can be found.

Then we would look like a fresh squad with a lot of depth.

Thought we played really well today. Can't wait to see us in a few games who the players really are used to this way of playing. Will be beautiful to watch as it was at times today.
Re individual errors they can eradicated and p.m.pretty sure they will be. It'd be a lot worse if it was us getting outplayed, but with eleven men on the pitch against WBA and most of the have today we've been the top team and mostly outplayed used opposition. Can't wait for the next game playing like this.

just wondering where all the BR out crew are at the moment, mmmmmmmmm thought so, fecking button it.
jaydee ynwa

To be fair.. It was 1point. Regardless how we play it's a game of results.
One point from six isn't anything to boast about and what with Arsenal and united yat to play.
Under kenny we outplayed teams but with no results so I guess there's a lesson there.

To early to judge BR just yet

No one wants br out we all want him to be a winner .

But to you not see your exactly the same as them, just on the opposite side of the pole. Both group of fans should not get to ahead of themselves...halfway through the season is a good indicator as to where things are going.

26 Aug 2012 21:18:55
Went to the match today Allen was class.
Still think we need some additions, Dempsey i am hoping for. or a goal scoring striker.

Spearing-Adam where not even at the game today nor was cole so i have a feeling the 3 will be sold.

As for Caroll, he looks to me like he wants to stay at LFC and fight for his place. The whole of anfield was in uproar when he came on and i think him and everyone else want him to do well.

Never no eh....

LTP The Red

They were at the game just not in the squad no one wants to buy any of the deadwood except spearing

Spearing and cole both present today, seem them on the match build up.

Cole was in the crowd sat near Sahin and the other bloke cheers pk

Cole was at the game - was sitting next to Sahin and Assaidi - he was even wearing the Liverpool tracksuit.
Dutchmal

Errr cole was mate

Carroll should stay, downing should go. Replacement either strurige or dempsy. now that sterling has showed up as our best winger and assaidi and borini play out wide as well. Our only real goal threat is Suarez. So keep Carroll sell downing.

2 strikers
4 wingers.

26 Aug 2012 21:17:19
The thing that amazes me most about sterling is his work effort for someone so young and talented. I can remember quite a few times last season when downing would leave Enrique with alot of work. nice to see him hustle back and be really aggressive to win the ball back.

Hakunamatada

Yes he was great! He did more in one match than Downing does in half a season!

If we are bringing in any more attacking players then surely Downing will be on his way out, either this transfer window or the next one

from lfc site
'Alonso told me to join LFC'

Did you speak with Xabi Alonso before you decided to come here?

Yes, of course. A lot of times. Xabi is a person who really cares about football. He's in love with football. I'm the same, and that's why we had a lot of conversations. When I arrived at Real Madrid, we spoke about German football and Italian football. He likes football! When he heard Liverpool were interested in me, he started telling me about Liverpool. He is still in love with Liverpool Football Club, I think! It's crazy how he was telling me about Liverpool. He was saying, 'Go there, you will love it. The fans will take care of you and love you' and things like that. He said Anfield is the best stadium in the world. Xabi won a lot of trophies here, and hopefully we can do that too....what a legend xabi is and always will be.

Just got in from the game, Oh my god, how well did sterling play. Look at my previous posts and see how much I rate him. He is so special i've seen him so many times in reserve games. he's gonna be such a special player. we were great today, couple of mistakes but definately progress.

Sell spearing, Adam, Pacheco, downing and keep Carroll. Bring in 1 forward and that's it. We only need 1

26 Aug 2012 21:10:30
Hi ed002, please could you give me your opinon on the following: What are the chances that AC will still be a liverpool payer come the end of the window, also do you expect that spearing, cole and adam will all leave. And what are your thoughts on the game today?..... {Ed002's Note - I think there is a good chance Adam and Spearing will go, and a pretty good chance Carroll will go. I am sorry but I missed the game.}

26 Aug 2012 21:02:45
one point of note, iwatched swansea yesterday playwest ham and wac hed us today and noticed the style was very similar

We will be better with the players we have

26 Aug 2012 20:53:19
Gaston Ramirez & Clint Dempsey in Charlie Adam and/or Jay Spearing out & if Carroll is sold Sturridge will replace him. That'll be it. Thank you

All are perfectly likely except Gaston Ramirez, that is not happening.
Cal

Gaston ramirez to join southampltion deal agreed according to a credible italian source

26 Aug 2012 20:43:24
I am not ITK. However based on information circulating on the web, it seems that 3 names have been linked with Liverpool during the past week or so:
- Dempsey, Herrera and Sturridge

Similarly the following players seem to be on their way out of Melwood:
- Carroll, Spearing and Adam

I personally do not think that Sturridge will happen. I think that the striker will likely be the surprise signing.

Cheers,

Sorry lads and lasses but this team will work. Fot those of you who continually doubt, well, stop it. I have been a regular (kop, annie rd ender and back to the Kop again since 1971 and i believe. I believe in what the manager wants. I believe that we will play the way that the manager wants and i firmly believe that i have seen this game before. Back in the 70s, a long time ago i grant you, but it worked out well then. History was,nt invented then, we made history. We will continue to make history if the doubters on here get off the managers and teams backs. Don,t you think that they don,t want to make history for themselves>? After what i have seen today i am more than willing to sit between blue noses and mancs and try to educate them. Stop the cr!p and support. No matter what. Rome was,nt built in a day but it was conquered twice by LIVERPOOL and i was there.

26 Aug 2012 20:39:34
As I said 2 weeks ago, Gerrard playing behind the front 3 in a free role is the key. Really poor last week but totally all over the attacking 3rd today. Don't get me wrong, Allen and Serling were both fantastic but for me Gerrad was the man of the match for me.

How we only got a draw today amazes me. We played the current champions off the pitch. The reports say a poor Man City team but I believe we made them look bad. First to every 2nd ball, more hungry and defending from the front. Don't know how the stats can say we only had 51% of possession, I'm sure there were 10 minutes in the first half were City didn't get a touch of the ball.

I hope the gamne today shuts a few of the critics up. My mouth was watering at some of the football we played. I am very excited about the rest of the season and if this is how we are playing after only 5 proper games into Brendans new regime and philosophy it does bode well for the future.

Gazza

Only one game, give it time and see how things progress..

26 Aug 2012 20:39:30
Eds do you know why Assaidi wasn't in the squad today? slight knock perhaps

also, do you still think we are the front runners to get Dempsey? {Ed001's Note - he is just not ready yet and yes.}

26 Aug 2012 20:39:01
Good perfromance today, def didn't miss Adam, Spearing, and Downing. Looking forward to watching Sahin play, plus a couple more players. It was the first time in ages i actually enjoyed watching them play

4 signings before the close of window. LEFT BACK, CENTER BACK, WINGER, STRIKER
Carroll will not go this window, but adam, spearing will, downing will go in january. Carroll will leave next summer.
YNWA TP

Don't know why we would need a CB, we don't have unlimited funds, We have Agger Skrtel Coates Carra Sama and Wisdom and Kelly can play there.
Cal

Think a right back is needed , if we want top four spot , but BR is the man , he made a big decision today ref starting , and giving Sterling the full 90 mins , and he will , in time , help us win the premiership .
redforever

4!? You're optimistic and also delusional

We need a new doctor lucas showed signs of injury during the kick in he talked to the back room staff and look what happened

We only need 1 signing with the current squad. At least 3 or 4 should be on their way out.

Lb enrique
cb agger skrtel coates
winger sterling sahin
striker fair enough

26 Aug 2012 20:35:57
good match 4 goal been scored. Liverpool Score 2 and creat 2. there was few stupid back pass in the match 1 from Allen . I just said it that time too many back pass may cost us any match and that what happen.

hhh

I do agree , but reckon that BR will work on that , after that MS schoolboy error , he will def think twice about that back-pass , in fact that goal should never have happened , MS was too far left , pepe should not have given pass too him , but when he did , MS should have passed right back , am just gutted we didnt get our first win ,but so many positives from this game , were def improving .

How can you take anyone with the who names himself after a wrestler serious.

You really need to stick to the pedigree triple h always negative if you watched the game you would have realised how good of a game Allen had

Having a good game not mean u can make thouse kind of mistake. you must remember your oposition is man city one of the best in europe.

No mate city are not best in europe they have got fantastic players but very average in europe couldn't qualify for second round and what have they achieve to be called one of the best in europe

26 Aug 2012 20:31:56
It's good how everyone is a little more positive after today's game,2 points dropped but you have to be positive, it was encouraging, we played well at times, but two mistakes cost us badly, but it was ironic how all kennys big buys were sat on the bench, Carroll, downing, Henderson and enrique, what I'm saying is most of these players played last season regardless of form, this might just be the kick up the arse they need to up their performance's, good on you BR.
Jonny71

I was more pleased that youth was given a chance , just hope suso is also given a chance as this will encourage the young guns in the reserves that a chance is their. Also glad that Coates was ahead of Carra , no offence to the bloke but a bit part now

26 Aug 2012 20:22:39
Today we played amazing against a top team, again. Our problem has never been playing big teams but the likes of little teams Sunderland, Fulham, Stoke and usually teams involved in relegation battles. These teams building a wall in front of goal causing us problems and then countering on the break to score. Sunderland will be the game that will be the most interesting for me personally to see how we perform against lesser teams.

Be sad to see him go top striker

KevinCFC

Be sad to see him arive to be honest mate

Square tomato

Hope not mate, if he ain't good enough for chelsea, he ain't good enough for liverpool, don't rate him.

He is a loner we want team players

If brendan wants him and thinks he can get him working like the rest of the lfc players have today with the obvious talent he already has, that's enough for me!

26 Aug 2012 20:18:50
Eds, any info on a striker coming to liverpool soon? Surely this should have been the number one priority; granted we bought borini, but surely we need someone who can score on a regular basis. Hope I don't seem negative as I believe in what's goin on at right now and understand it's early days

We need(ed) to get the foundation right first. Allen, Sahin, speed on the width, fundamental understanding of attacking AND defending as a team, ball retention, penetration and movement. Yes, we need a 20+ goal a season striker. Everyone wants one of them. But we have to re-build from the bottom up, which we are doing and doing well so far.

Soo pleased today BR picked sterling ahead of downing and gave coates a start its tym we started building for the future allen was also brilliant hope lucas is ok
You could see we played well yes we made mistakes but am sure wel learn jus thought by picking sterling he kept his word it does not matter by name or age if ur gud enuf hel play them also realised borini is quick but needs rym to improve finishing lol  but overall really impressed

Joe Allen proved his price tag today. Well done lad. Also thought Shelvey was fantastic. Plenty of positives to take from the game.

I was of the understanding that skrtel had signed extension with us. NOT FOR CITY .cheers psv {Ed001's Note - he is staying, he has signed an extension.}

I think you missed the sarcasmm {Ed001's Note - he said it was a question, so I answered it, if I hadn't people would have been moaning I ignored it!}

It's already been said, but a really great performance today. We lost due to two mistakes, the first was a real fluke and the second was just a blind moment of panic from Skerts. Until then, he was immense and man of the match.

Many positive and this shows great signs for us. But we really do need to analyse a further weakness and that is up front. Both goals came from set pieces. Suarez's free kick was brilliant, but until then he was poor. He makes good runs and challenges defenders well, but too often he puts his head down oblivious to his team mates position and his passing if too often wayward. He need to work on these aspects of his game and also his general shooting accuracy. Bottom line, he's great but we need and out and out goal scorer of the goal every 2 games variety. Until we get that we will fall a little short of our aspirations.

I know after a great performance today, this may be seen as nitpicking, but let's look atthe greats that have placed up front for us: Torres, Owen, Fowler, Rush, KK, aldridge - we don't have a striker with their hit rate at the moment.

26 Aug 2012 19:38:48
Great game, city so don't deserve there point.I can see some progress and the passing style being implemented.so come reds!!

No difference to kenny , when we attack we are always good at home no matter who is manager , but br is manager so good luck to him we need a left back and a goal scorer to take the onus off louis

26 Aug 2012 19:38:40
Gulacsi
McLaughlin Kelly Coates Robinson
Henderson Shelvey Allen
Suso Borini Sterling

Line up in 6/7 years time? IMO at least half of them will make it.

RedKopite

Yeah we won't sign any top players in the next 7 years. by that logic isn't our current team supposed to consist of mellor, hammill, otsemobor, peltier, guthrie, warnock, potter and welsh?
mclaughlin has been sold to brighton as well

26 Aug 2012 19:38:24
Happy with everything, but when there is around 10 minutes to go, and you are playing a top 6 team, then Brendan should allow the players to hoof it up field, as its too dangerous to pass to the goalkeeper.

Piledriver

So abondon the game you were playing to get in front in the first place. Keeping possession is the best way to ensure the other team doesn't attack.

We can take it as red, that cole, adam and spearing have played there last game for the mighty reds!.There absence from the game was in light of there impending departures.Rodgers has said he's like a few more players in to help the current squad,so after dempsey expect either loic remy,or sturridge to sign, plus 1 or 2 suprises.

Not Sturridge - wasteful and selfish. Mid-week, he shot from an insane angle and distance with others in great positions to score. The crowd screamed their frustration at him - he does this every game I have seen at Stamford Bridge. Most Chelsea fans wouldn't care if he left.

Very good performance bar a couple gifts we totally out passed them it was a joy to watch I feel so comfortable when Allen has the ball he's so composed its excellent sterling was brilliant too made city players look silly at times. Suarez goal was sublime! Happy he's got a goal early in the season borini was quite but worked hard for the team, the man who feels no pain(skertl) was great up until you know what, but hey he scored a bullet. Overall we played well hopefully onwards an upwards from here with a couple more signings we should be a force, I'm glad BR recognised the problem with Caragher(legend) and played Coates instead. Shame about Lucas really hope it's not serious!

Today s game we looked good, Anfield was rocking and I believe if we show same commitment Anfield will be fortress again. Joe Allen looked good and cant wait for Sahin to be part of midfield. Couple of more additions and we should be done.. Still few days left on window hence I still think Dempsey and another striker would do job, Allen looked very good and at one point commentator looked shocked as he misplaced pass..hope Lucas injury is not bad. I still think another back up for Enqiue is required as Robinson too young and better off loaned out to gain first team football and experience.. Loved when Rodgers said he selects team based on performance not how they ARE.. which suggests less matches for Jamie and hidden warning to Gerrad. Lets build up on positive and give hearts hard time at Anfield.

Now that Lucas has had a setback i'm wondering how many of the supporters who where questioning the financial outlay for Sahin will show their faces on here tonight! Ged

Your so right , but there are so many games for a big team like us , and BR will want us having a real go in all compitions , that we will need all of our players to have some game time , and our midfield will be top-class .

26 Aug 2012 20:10:25
Carra, Gerrard, Skrtel & Reina are our biggest liabilities and have been for long enough now for it to be indisputable and today's game was a typical example why, just like last season these players will be responsible for most of the mistakes that lead to goals and sending offs.

Gerrard runs around like a headless chicken and makes reckless passes and is forever leaving other players exposed.

Skrtel is always likey to make a mistake, either he is fouling someone, caught on the ball, or he just does something stuipd, either way he will cost us points this season.

Reina is a flapper, he is just a woeful at crosses and shots, he never saves anything cleanly, he will cost this team many points again this season.

I'll mention Carra, but seen as his first team career is coming to an end, he won't matter for much longer anyway.

I say drop Gerrard to bench and use him as an impact player, his best days are well gone anyway. Sell Skrtel and Reina and buy Lloris and Mexes and or another top quality CB.

If we do this our team would become formidale and we would not have to worry so much about undiscplined players making simple mistakes that keep costing us dearly...

Stannis

LLORIS AND MEXES why Are you french?

Gerrard was awesome today!!
Were u even watching the same match...and if im nt wrong skrtel was our player of the season last yr..and today got the opening goal...

Are you ok in the head ?

Show a bit of respect for steven gerrard, you are a disgrace.

I think Gerrard is a 75 minutes player now and should still be a starter but shouldn't finish every game.

Mexes is a even Good defender too

Really happy with that performance, shame about the resul. But can someone help me? Im not trying to say anything bad about rodgers i rate him highly but if anyone can tell me the difference between this performance and all the other matches that we dominated from last season? It may seem cynical but trust me im not im just trying to see if anything has changed?
Lfcallday

Differensce is we had 3 new players in team - Allen, Borini & Sterling and dominated City. That we kept possession better and gifted them equalizer's.

Also that a lot of people thought Liverpool would struggle this match and get outplayed.

Oh and we lost Lucas and he wasn't missed as Shelvey played well.

D 2308

Difference is when we played man city last season we got the goal to go ahead then just sat back and park the bus and let them come at us

26 Aug 2012 20:00:20
Am I the only person that thinks instead of buying a 10-15m striker i.e. Sturridge/Walcott and 10m on Dempsey we should just blow the whole load on a 20-25m proven, out-and-out striker? For me we will need six players who all play in them front three positions. We already have Suarez, Borini, Downing, Assaidi and Sterling. We don't need two more attackers, just one more striker. I would have a look at Leandro Damaio, Roberto Soldado, Robert Lewandowski, Alvaro Negredo Loic Remy, Jose Callejon. Some of them would be below that price bracket and some over but these are just some ideas.

YNWA

RedKopite

Yes, well said. lewandowski for me, maybe 20m. then we are sorted.

Where does all the hype for Callejon come from ?

Yep because all those players are proven prem league players

He caused the first goal by giving the ball away again. Can forgive him as it was his corber for skrtls header. Captain yes. Fantastic. He's a bit from that at the moment....

Liverpool are seriously considring bring quaresma to anfield.Rodgers belives he can bring the best out him. He's likely to cost around 6m,for which will be a bargain if he fullfills his undoubted potential. Also expect dempsey and a striker from spain to arrive.Good times are on there way back, mark my words...

You tend to talk about potential when a player is young, not when they're coming towards the end of their career! Quaresma is past it! He's too bothered about tricks!

Quaresma would be a good signing for 6m great to replace kuyt and cole on the right.

he would also bring out the best in borini and suarez by creating a shed load of chances.

sometimes yh he tries tricks but thats his game. no one cursed ronaldinho for tricks but because he isn't on the same level its a bad thing?

just wanna say alen today played great,i can see why we paid 15mil for him, borini worked hard sterling was live wire and gerrard seemed to be more focused today, all positive!

2 little things concerned me tho, no1 was kelly, was sloppy a few times today when given the ball with time to contol! as for the goal most top defenders put that behind for a corner or hit it 1st time away from goal, hardley ever see a top defender try and take a touch, my main concern tho is reina! his decision making is bad and when he comes hes nowhere near getting the ball, 3 times today he came out to meet the ball and missed completey! 1 costing us a goal!

apart from those 2 little concerns i thought we was fantastic, and our plan b with carrol almost worked, hope we cant find a buyer as it proved today he has a big part to play!

after today my prediction is 4th!

swedish adam

Kelly had a fantastic first half, first 10-15 mins when city had a lot of possession he made 2 or 3 really good interceptions out in the right back position to stop crosses getting put in, as for the goal he doesn't expect the ball to come to him thats why he has a heavy touch, it flicks off skrtel reina misses it completely and all of a sudden its at his feet. i think he had a great game to be honest apart from being unlucky for the goal

Yeah he made some Good inteceptiond bit he Also miss controlled a number of times! Most obv was in a attack around the half hour mark, was looking good Gerrard passes it to him in achers of space and he let the ball go under his foot! I don't think it was the goal he gave away being the reason for sub he just seemed off today! Tired? Personal matters ? I have no idea but today was not his best! Br obv thought same! {Ed001's Note - he was just making the classic error of thinking about what he was going to do next, rather than concentrating on getting control first. It happens to the best of them.}

Don't you wish that BR had been in charge of the transfer funds at the disposal of. Kenny and Commolli?

How can somebody disagree with this post?

26 Aug 2012 19:53:59
downing's career is almost over after the rise of sterling.Rodgers know's he's a very limited player(downing),and that sterling will only get better.Expect downing to leave before or on deadline day, maybe to QPR,or sunderland who are both interested. At last rodgers is undoing kenny's mistakes in regards to players.A replacement will be brought in with arda turan being considered.Im telling you are squad will look pretty impressive come the end of the window.

26 Aug 2012 19:52:32
i was working today but the game sounded good for us,loving the positive feedback on here.i cant wait to see the highlites and will watch the mach in full tommorow.gonna be at next weeks game i cannot wait.sorry for the spelling i've just finished a twelve hour shift me brain aint working.kyb.

26 Aug 2012 19:16:35
Interesting to see Charlie Adam not even in the squad. With Sahin and Aissaidi coming could any of the Eds tell me where he will be sold.

26 Aug 2012 19:16:34
Nuri Sahin must be watching thinking I'd have got more games at Arsenal, Liverpools midfield is quality compared to Arsenal's.

Still Nuri you'll take spearings place in the squad. Allthough spare a thought for Charlie Adam and Joe Cole They'll probably never be seen again at Anfield :)

UCCM

Yes, they will be sold and come back to haunt us in typical fashion

26 Aug 2012 19:16:07
Although Allen was very good today..... Shelvey for me was MOTM, sterling as well brilliant took his opertunity well. It's lookin bright!!

Shelvey was outstanding, my motm. Some of the passing was like Gerrard in his day.

26 Aug 2012 19:16:05
Bloody brilliant this afternoon!! Robbed....iron out the errors and we'll be great!! Looking really good! Bring on the Arse next weekend!!
Well done lads and BR!!

26 Aug 2012 19:15:55
Here is my thinking.... if Torres had not have jumped ship, we would be so strong right now! That Midfield can control games, wow, it was impressive today I thought against the champions. A clinical finsiher (Torres) and we would be right up there.

I hate to agree with this but i have 2 we need a goal scorer asap

26 Aug 2012 19:15:02
good performance, slightly undone by the errors by Martin and Martin but you have to say that the manager has got us playing well and his confidence in Sterling and Shelvey is good to see and will pay dividends. Thought Allen was superb as was both Shelvey and Sterling, Coates was brilliant against a very strong attack and impressed me a lot. I am happy overall and I think with Sahin in the team we will only get better.

26 Aug 2012 19:14:34
Does anyone else agree that Sturridge would fit into Brendan's system, with three up top. Pacy, good on the ball etc..Not sure if we're linked with him, but he would be another option..Rome 77

I hope we don`t get sturridg a waste of money the best move is Dempsey you willget more out of Dempsey

26 Aug 2012 19:14:23
Hi eds, Any idea who the possible signings are that Rodgers is looking to bring in before Fridays deadline? {Ed002's Note - Dempsey will be one.}

U say will be do u no if we have a bid accepted ed thanks {Ed002's Note - Not yet.}

26 Aug 2012 19:14:12
Excellent game, lots of positives. Only cons i have is
1.) Why do we keep passing the ball back to Renia, even from the opponents half..frustrating!

2.)Ref again...

Positives

1.) Sterling,Coates,Shelvey,Allen,kelly

2.) Starting to gel together, some fancy footie.

3.)Luis scoring a blinder, but needs to tame his temp, but he was right at the end,Sterling was fouled, should have been a yellow to City and our freekick.

Lee73

Better passing it back to Reina and starting another move, than to concede possesion and potentially a chance for the opposition before you start your next move

26 Aug 2012 19:13:25
Andy carroll can fit into this team. If we just play the normal passing game and resist the urge to punt safing the high for for the final ball or cross then Andy could be an asset. Dont use him as a target man and just play as if he was just another player on the field it can work. BR needs just needs to send them all for hypnosis and remove the punt and replace it 'with give the ball to allen'. Andy looks much better in the box than he does as a target man holding up the ball or coming deep. I was one of those who agreed that he wouldnt fit the BR system but if they could just resist the punting and pass it instead. I will definately change my mind about andy.
YNWA The Pirate

Exactly just use his aerial threat from crosses and set pieces not hoofing except maybe as a last resort e.g. When in a situation such as Skrtel's today when nothing is on

26 Aug 2012 19:08:59
No Adam in squad, anything in this??

26 Aug 2012 19:08:43
Average age of the team must be early to mid 20s.
Some of the football we played was pure class but some players seem to be struggling with it at the moment. But lets remember we just played the champions and outplayed them. The future is very bright with a lot of young good technically gifted players coming through.
Keep the faith my friends keep the faith.

26 Aug 2012 19:35:12
Much improved from last week.
Unlucky not to get the win.
Great hopes for the future and 1 or 2 more signings and I'll be really happy.
Well done lads.

26 Aug 2012 19:34:05
Hello ed's i apologise if it's been done to death but can you give me a up to date report on a move to Liverpool? I personally think he would be great for Liverpool if BR could fix up his mental game and pushed out some of his selfishness. He's a technical, clever, and another flair player which is good for the fans.. What do you think?

Adam W {Ed001's Note - who?}

Im going to guess and say he means sturidge who has no business playing for Liverpool

Square tomato {Ed001's Note - yeah, but he said clever and Sturridge is certainly not clever!}

Yes he would def fit in , if only his team-mates could find him ? ha

I agree ed but this is the posters opinion of course!

Not LFC related but apparently Tottenham have offered 8m to Malaga for "Isco" what an insult, they want 40m for Modric but believe they are entitled to take advantage of a clubs misfortune! Levy is a hypocrite! Ged

hi eds, any further news on lucas's injury, hoping its not too long a lay off, get fit soon lucas, legend in the making that lad......

STEVE

RED4LIFE {Ed001's Note - nothing yet, but he tweaked it in the warm up, so hopefully it is just a slight strain, he will rest it up and have an X-ray, probably Tuesday, when any swelling will have had time to go down.}

Eds what did he tweek his hamstring or what thanks

kanemty {Ed001's Note - I think it was his quad, rather than his hamstring.}

26 Aug 2012 19:21:02
Let's put this in perspective, we had missing Agger and Lucas after 10mins! Shelvey came in stepped up, Sterling was awesome and fearless! Allen was so immense but I hardly noticed his work as he goes about it do well.

Sahin to come in plus a few others.

Feeling good felling positive!

YNWA jns

Shelvey was just brilliant today , he is improving with every game , going to be a great player ,

Hi Ed's, was there any interest in Scott Sinclair at all? Citeh getting him for £6.2m (a website) is a real bargain in my opinion, and I feel we could have done with him.

In saying that, Sterling had a very good game, looks such a good player and I hope he continues to get opportunities.

YNWA

Muzzafan {Ed001's Note - there was initially, a move was considered for him, but never made.}

26 Aug 2012 19:18:07
Lots of positives today. Sterling & Coates coming in a playing well, Suarez getting a goal, Allen-Gerrard partnership etc.

Before KO I would have taken a point, but can't help but feel disappointed with just that, especially as the goals conceded were very much of our own making.

We showed today we can be more than a match for the best in the league, now it is all about getting that level of performance against the lesser likes of the league.

Now don't say I am moaning, I am pleased with play but few things to keep in Mind:

1- Borini needs to build up himself strong Little bit. Borini should be playing through middle otherwise we might not get the better out of him.

2- Just another routing strong typical performance from Liverpool against bigger opposition, it is not the bigger teams I am worried about its about the little ones, must make sure we play the same against the minnows.

3-Defensively we looks sloppy at moments, i don't think BR is a man fond of defending so much but LFC need to keep calm and secure the back. Need a good defensive coach IMO to assist BR, Shame Clarke left. Very good decision to put Coates ahead of Carra, its the way it should be. It must be a habit.

4- Downing should hung his boots, Sterling very exciting and bright, Shelvey impressive, composed, poor Hendo, Shelvey looks the far better option. Joke we splashed 40M on some players when we got better players in our ranks. also Kenny played them just because he bought them. so poor from the King.

5-There is no talking about Joe Allen. Perfect for me.
No better timing to get him, though worried about Lucas, just see what happened to Essien at Chelsea was never the player before, pray he can come back good.

6- And so curious that Luis Suarez can score a 40 yard free kick , inch perfect, bend it like as good as anyone on the planet, doing nutmegs all the time, but when it comes to two posts and himself he don't know to put it in the net. IMO we surely can't expect to rely on him for goals. He should be drifting along the sides, creating chances for others. And that would be much effective.

7- With Sahin, Assaidi and more new signings to come in, plus as time goes on I think we can expect hell lot better performances hopefully with us winning.

8- STill worried about lack of scoring, converting, we need a 30-25 goal striker, or we need everybody to contribute with goals. Heard we are after Sturridge.
I did not fancy the idea, much better options out there. Nolito, Remy, Gameiro, Patrick Aumbyang and how about a loan move for Berbatov.

9- If we can put Dempsey in the bag, & he performs well as like at Fulham, thats damn too good. Suarez, Dempsey, Sahin, Gerrard, Allen.. Yam...!

10- Also I hope the out goings are well according to plan. Adam, Spearing. Cole must leave. I just can't see him getting a chance in cup games ahead of the likes of Sterling, Assaidi and Suso. Better leave or forget playing, rightfully imo he didn't have a chance. Now thats useless 75/90K wasted every week by the club.

There you go rant over!

Im from Boston and naturally also a red sox fan, and the red sox just made a trade 2 days ago which dumped 260 million dollars in salary commitments to players over the next 5 or 6 years (they traded their three highest paid players). With all this cash freed up I wonder if John Henry would consider putting a little bit more money into Liverpool's spending budget for this transfer window

No, they are cutting their loses for the season and will look to rebuild for next year

Don,t think so, He wants us to qualify for champions league to sustain ourselves!.Said it was critical!. That tells me after the window shuts, Cap put on spending,

Just to further this point, in many ways the sox are in a very similar position to us right now, new management, new younger players on less money and even a very expensive signing who may be making a comeback soon in Daisuke Matsuzaka(Andy Carroll anyone?) They are trying to rebuild their franchise with a new and different approach in order to outmanoeuvre teams who may be willing to spend more money than them. It seems that despite concerns from both fan bases that FSG or NESV whatever you want to call them favour one investment over the other they feel that what is good for one is good for the other.

26 Aug 2012 18:58:28
Thought Gerrard looks average in the team at the moment, I wonder if it's the age of the players around him as they are a lot younger...

A good performance, not the result we wanted but we can take heart from that... can we do this against lesser teams at home? Yet to be seen.

Stevie g did not look average, think you didn't watch the same match

Mate I thought Gerrard played some wonderfiul passes and will take sometime for team to adapt the systeam which rodgers want especially deffenders

Kopite

Playing lots of short quick passes under pressure isn't Gerrard's style, he would much rather play a 50 yard pass than 5 10 yard passes.

How about the players have finally played at a level that stevie has had to single handedly produce for a decade!

26 Aug 2012 18:56:03
Just seen BR saying he wants to bring a few more players in because he feels the squad is shallow! I for one am really positive about the season ahead and hope everyone else feels the same way after that amazing performance.

26 Aug 2012 18:54:44
I feel for skrytel because he looked solid until that mistake. But that will make him stronger mentally. The overall performance was excellent, and Liverpool look like the team they used to be. But I'm not going to get ahead of myself especially after last season. One big negative though, Lucas injury is not a good thing even with sahin coming in. Then again it looks like shelvey looks more consistent.

26 Aug 2012 18:53:56
Anyone have any idea where our new winger was today?

Yes, he was doing a Sterling job out on the left!

Sat next to Sahin

Myk

In the crowd, too early for him

In the stands if you mean Assaidi

Hans

He has just finished Ramadan, I believe and will take probably an extra week to get fit and healthy enough or the Premiership. Last season Demba Ba was a prime example of this because in the first 3 or 4 games he was awful but then he got fitter and healthier and started firing.

Stevie G still giving away possession too much. He was the cause of the first City goal.

And I thought it was a defensive cock up

26 Aug 2012 18:36:09
That was not an easy game for City !

Shelvey did well and Sterling was great. Who needs a left winger ?
I would have put Carroll on sooner as City don't like dealing with high balls.
City started well but Liverpool grew after Skertl's goal.
It was nice to see no tik-tak football, just what we played under Kenny.
Generally the defense coped well. Coates is a good replacement for Carra.
City could not live with Sterling. A star !
In the end, it is not about a manager, but the players.
Sterling was great !
I am not a fan of Rodgers.
But the lads done well.
Perhaps we need one more striker? But not Dempsy.
Please, please hold onto Carroll.
He will scare defenses !
Redken

Whats with the BR bashing... no tik-tak. Its not about the manager etc! If its about him when its bad then its about him when the players do well too!

26 Aug 2012 18:30:18
After the interview from sky. BR says some more incoming! Squad is shallow....... excited now......

26 Aug 2012 18:28:55
A few things I learned today :

1/ Allen is worth way more than 15 million. What a performance against one of the best midfields that money can buy.

2/ If that's what BR's style of play is like, bring it on. What a game. I thought I was going to have a heart attack.

3/ We are still cursed. We are still having some rubbish decisions made against us, and we're not getting the rub of the green.

4/ Sterling is more effective than Downing.

Nick

26 Aug 2012 18:28:53
I would rather have Dempsey 100 times over Sturidge

26 Aug 2012 18:28:28
Just a quick something Ed's, why don't we try and pinch Moussa Dembele! He's a much younger model to Dempsey and wouldn't cost too much? His dribbling skills are exemplary and he too scores goals, also a very strong player. Another thing I don't understand is where would Dempsey fit into things, yes I know he gets forward and scores goals but in our 4-3-3 formation there's not much room for a CAM and I can't really see him playing on the wing as that is not his game. Were Rodgers to play him in the middle of the park I personally would not choose him over any of the midfielder's whom played today and that's without Sahin, he doesn't offer anything different to Gerrard who is just a few years older than Dempsey? Just a thought, your thoughts would be appreciated.

RedsMatt {Ed001's Note - he is nothing like Dempsey, not even similar. Plus he would cost too much, I don't know where you have got the impression he would be available on the cheap.}

26 Aug 2012 18:48:03
The man said it himself in his after match interview he expects at least a couple of signing before deadline as squad is thin. Let the guessing begin.

26 Aug 2012 18:47:08
eds reds pleased with the performance today , except for two bad errors! in my opinion suarez and borini are inside out! borini down the middle and suarez outside , creating things!! sterling did great but , i think we still need another player. but its looking better. godbless96 steviep62

26 Aug 2012 18:46:47
Its still early days guys so don't worry! We played well against the champions and its only 2 games into the season. I'm sure BR will make one or two surprise signings and if we play like that on Saturday we will beat Arsenal.

Immy (SurreyRed)

I am sure we will beat Arsenal on Saturday. Especially considering they won't be at Anfield until Sunday the 2nd of Sept. ;)

Very happy with the team's work ethic today. Played very well for most of the game, shame we gave away two sloppy goals.

Joe Allen look's the real deal (fingers crossed) he was very impressive today.

Raheem Sterling...the next John Barnes?! Can't wait to see more of this kid!

I just hope today wasn't a case of Liverpool raising their game because the champions were in town (like we did last season) only to lose to the likes of West Brom etc in the future.

26 Aug 2012 18:45:51
Even before the game..we were being written off...but we showed our class...we deserved to win...but were a touch unlucky..but a draw with the champions is a disappointment...so this shows how good we are..
if we play like this we can beat arsenal, sunderland and united...if not and even if we get two wins and a draw from the next three fixtures..i think we all will be pretty happy...with having 8 with 5 matches..with three difficult games already out of the way...the club is moving forward..all we need is a little patience...and a little faith..and bit of good fortune wouldn't hurt either...

26 Aug 2012 18:44:11
I'm not itk or anything, but do we think that Downing and Spearing not getting on the pitch (even on the bench in Spearing's case) was to prevent an injury ready for selling? I really wish Downing would perform to his abilities - I was quite excited when we signed him tbh - whereas Spearing will fight for the cause but just hasn't made the step up that the likes of Shelvey and Sterling are doing.

26 Aug 2012 18:42:10
Gotta say the more I hear off Brendan Rodgers the more the man impresses me. I really do believe we have a true student of the game in charge of are beloved and I for one think we are in extremely good hands. Unlucky today boys but in Brendan we trust

Brief summary on BR's response about further transfer activity asked in his post-match interview on Sky:

'We hope so. The players still need a bit of help, we've still only just about replaced the players who have left. We could do with a few more in.'

Wouldn't rule out another surprise yet then! Fingers crossed he'll receive the backing from the owners and with hopefully Dempsey and perhaps another the team is looking more or less complete - a lot more convinced after this match anyway!

Fantastic match, Sterling has confirmed what we already knew he can be a very special player for us. Borini needs to settle into the team a bit more and Skrtel has the footballing equivalent of bi-polar disorder. My biggest concerns coming away from this game are similarities to last season. The best teams take points away from games where they deserve none, Liverpool sometimes struggle to take any from games they deserve to win, this must surely just be a psychological thing that will fade away if we can get a run of good games. Things are looking up and with the introduction of the new faces watching from the stands today we will only get better.

That was very enjoyable. Anfield rocking. Home debuts for a few of the lads and 2 new additions watching on. It's a pity about the nature of both goals we conceded but overall we played excellently and IMO deserved to shade it. Raheem was better than I thought he could be at such a young age but Joe Allen was a class a part. Wait till we get into a rhythm with BR's philosophy. That was a little view into the future there. Well done Redmen. Disappointed but very happy at the same time.

Let's be all positive today.brilliant by all 14 reds who stood for the shirt.

Allen bargain at 15M.
Sterling what can I say brilliant.downing now needs to improve massively.
Jonjo looked so good.hendo needs to up his game.
Less mistakes at back and if we keep the level up we will win more then loose.

Ed's I haven't seen much of Sterling, him being a young player and all that, but how many games does he have in him a season at the moment and will the sheer mass of games affect his performances. As he played against Hearts on Thursday and then again today on Sunday against City.

Oh and just to point out only 2 pts behind Man Utd, 1 pt behind Arsneal, level on points with Tottenham - so whist we are very clearly a work in progress and need a lot of hard work our "rivals" for top 4 slots aren't exactly flying either (apart from Chelsea).

Hearts and Arsneal next - let's ave em.

Hello
Thoughts on the match goes as follows
Fantastic!
Every player did there bit I'm not gunna slag any of them off they all worked hard and we can all see thier qualities
I mean for a club that has just had a new manager and new players comming in we match the champs and in most cases we out classed them
I havent said this yet but...

In BR we trust!!
Get on board people The future is bright the Future is RED!

Cheers

our boys played like real footballers. I am now confident we are heading up.
Some fans own an apology to BR as well as our new signings. WHAT A GAME. I haven,t seen anything like this for a looooong time.

Come on LFC keep it up

what a transformation from last week, feel so sorry for skerts, he had a blinder, we deserved 3 points no doubt about it, sahin must have liked what he saw, cuz i did, played some great stuff, downing should never start again, give sterling a run in the team, allen pure class

Please eds dont publish any moaners tonight. That was a good performance full of passion and commitment. The signs are there that we will come good in time under this manager. With a touch of luck and cutting out un-forced errors we would have walked that game.

I didn't go today and I'm gutted now I never. When our manager gets the players he wants this will be some team.

I'm a proud red today.

What brilliant football.

P.s The manager wants mobile players. Mr Enrique won't get a sniff in my opinion.

2 mistakes=2points lost... Im getting sick of this. Not good enough, we're in front two times. Same as last season, throwing away points at home.

LFCopenhagen

The big difference between today and last season is we would play terribly after going in front and lose all confidence and momentum. Today we gifted them points through errors. That won't happen every week. They didn't look like scoring otherwise. Not happy with the result but the performance was top class
CQ

Take the positives...

*Coates didnt look out of place.
*Sterling is only going to improve
*Allen has a 'master key' to unlock any defense
*MUCH better performance than WBA

I don't think people will be so quick to write LFC off after that.

Better times ahead, bring on the Gunners!

Lee YNWA

No mention of any positives then like the fact the performance was miles better than last week? I know performances don't win points but we're going in the right direction, hopefully.

Mr Benn

There is no doubt Coates is not ready yet.

Are you INSANE? We had a great game against CITY!! A team who won the title last season and has quality players in every position. How many teams will get anything against CITY? What is wrong with some of our fans?!!

So you've just managed to magically predict every home result for this season, based solely on the first home match of the year? I'm really impressed.

Disappointed with the way we conceded the goals and with the result in the end. But if you asked me before the match if I would take a point I would have jumped at it.

All in all a good performance and at least we didn't hit any woodwork today.

A striker who can put the ball in the net is a MUST!

Once again we made chances but scoring that "killer" goal, which means we win as opposed to drawing, elludes us.

A far better performance, Shelvey played well and Sterling certainly looked comfortable playing at this level ...pity I couldn't hit a button to delay real time play because as soon as Skrtel turned I (like every other supporter) knew exactly what was going to happen - only real mistake Martin made all game, but unfortunately it cost us BIG time!

Maybe we should try giving Carroll a start then! Was really finding his feet at the end of the season for us and England, think he deserves a shot!
Redjoe96

Borini should be our poacher, not played on the wing..
Lee73

Borini should be our poacher, not played on the wing..
Lee73

Totally agree, a front three of Suarez, sterling and a top finisher in the middle is the way forward, don't think Borini is the answer, to be honest I don't no why we've bought him, offers nothing different.
Jonny71

We scored two goals today against the champions. What you want is a player who can always put the ball in the net when the opposition level that is not possible.Today showed we were clinical in front of goal we just gave away as many as we scored.

Kopping a feel

26 Aug 2012 18:08:25
Unlucky result(as always) we should have won but many many positives to take away.

1)The defence held up very well thought Coates and Kelly were awesome. Poor backpass by Skrtel of course but likely a one off. Fantastic header too.
2)Joe Allen is looking like a huge bargain.
3)Not quite his best, but Stevie G was much improved today. I know he gave the ball away for the first goal that was more miscommunication than a poor pass IMO. Besides great corner for the first goal.
3)Shelvey was awesome
4)Great free kick by Suarez
5)Sterling is good enough to walk into the team judging from today's performance. Deserves another game next week.
6)There were signs that the tiki taka philosophy is starting to trickle down to the players. We had 60% possession during certain spells in the game

Hope Lucas' injury isn't too bad, and we also now have Nuri Sahin. We can only improve.

Keith YNWA

How can u highlight kellysperformance and leave out johnson? for me coates and johnson were the best in defence, although coates semmed alittle nervous at the start, but he needs the gametime bad,...

We will be turning down offers from Barca for Allen in a few seasons. Top class centre midfielder.

26 Aug 2012 18:08:04
Proud of how we played today overall and should have won

26 Aug 2012 18:06:51
Gutted at result but fantastic performance. Lots of positives - Allen, Suarez, Sterling, Shelvey and should have won game. I will wait to see what happens with Borini but again clinical finishing has cost us. That and 2 defensive mistakes to add to 2 soft penalties from WBA game.

Unfortunatley I think we will make more mistakes whilst we get used to the system as we try to retain possession from the back. Skrtel conceded penalty last weekend as he was trying to find an option to pass forward to and now an underhit back pass as we tried to retain possession.

Anyways we were so near to a great result and it shows given time ( and poss another signing) we are not too far away from top 4.

Hope Lucas is ok but Shelvey played well. Great reception for Carroll. Hope he stays and challenges Borini for starting role.

Well played by the entire team! Allen stepped in wonderfully for Lucas, marking out Toure. Stevie shaded it for me as MOTM, Raheem and Coates were stand outs! Well played the kids! We should have won! Singred

Stevie, MOTM - I've just written I thought he looked very average in the team today and Allen made Liverpool tick...

Shelvey stepped in 4 lucas

doesn't everyone want their rivals to lose?
im sure you want your rivals to lose? such as everton and fulham..

you'd also know about a losers attitude..

i have a lot of confidence in my team, we finished 2nd cs of goal difference and we have now bought 2 world class players who have settled in brilliant.

also sterling does look a good player hope he chooses England over Jamaica.

Before anyone starts criticising BR, we all need to recognise that he's transforming this team into a top four challenger. No question about that. He can't legislate for tw defensive horrors but overall the team is takings shape. They deserved all three points today but the signs are very encouraging. BR will get it right and with Sahin coming in the squad with possiblyt Dempsey, the future's looking brigher. BTW Joe Allen is pure class. And Sterling and Shelvey deserve some praise too. Well done BR.

26 Aug 2012 18:02:05
A fantastic performance from everyone of the lads today. It was so good to see Sterling in the starting line up and what a performance he gave throughout. We gave Man City the point but lets not let that cloud the fact that it was a very good performance and a massive step in the right direction.

Joe Allen is a real class act.

So dissapointing to draw. But what a great game.what a great performance.we gifted them both goals.if thats not enough to encourage the doom merchants then i dont know what will.allen and sterling can become world class in my opinion.again shame to draw but im well chuffed with that display.if we carry on like that were gonna be competing for top 4.

Why Martin?? Why the backpass??? Whyyyyy??

Nothing wrong with backpassing there. He should've looked up before he did.

Probs because he didn't have Agger guiding the defensive line.
Coates was great though. It is useful having a general like Agger or Carra (in his prime) marshaling the troops

Why didn't Mancini play Silva from the start, Brendan got that bit right over his opponents? Leave Martin alone, he GOT us the first goal and think that his error for their last goal was his only mistake of the game!

Keith

To keep possession. he didn't have any options to go forward so he went backwards. That is the philosophy BR is instilling into our players. Mistakes will happen this season, have no doubts about it but for all of the times it went right we kept possession and launched attacks against city, at times we played them off the pitch.
Perhaps he could've looked up to see where he was passing but i though it was great reading of the game from Tevez.
derryred

While I thought thatMartin Skrtel had a very good game , He did have options , rather than pass it back , Shelvey was only 5 yards away , forward , he chose the worst option , too many pass-backs , and we know that they can result in goals .

ps Joe Allen , we have a superstar .

26 Aug 2012 18:00:16
Unfortunately we didn't get the 3 points due to sloppy errors. However we all could see so many positives from today's game and we were unlucky not to get all the points. If we play like this at home for the rest of the season then we'll be absolutely fine this season. We're now level with Spurs, a point behind Arsenal and 2 behind Newcastle (Our rivals for 4th). Overall it was a great performance and it gives me confidence for the future. Here's hoping we get more positive comments this evening unlike usual.

SO lets all stick together and support this manager and team and stop knocking them! Leave that to the press and MOTD pundits.

Absolutely gutted we didn't win that tbh but great performance. Skrtel needs to dramatically improve.

. Sarcasm isn't dead yet after all!

sama491

It was a very sloppy error but otherwise he was brilliant.

He was great all game barring 1 pass.

Ben

How can you say that? Skrtel was incredible for the whole game, he made one mistake which happened to cost us 2 points!other players made mistakes too, our Stevie gave the ball away more times than I can remember, Coates and Kelly made defensive errors, Suarez wasn't on top form and Borini passed up a few opportunities, but Skrtel makes one mistake and it just happens to have consequences. Why not blame our attack instead for not taking better advantage of scoring opportunities. The result was sooooo frustrating, but Skrtel doesn't need to dramatically improve, he just needs to learn from it and move on.

26 Aug 2012 17:55:59
feel a bit deflated after that, silly mistakes cost us the three points, however when i get over being gutted iwill start to focus on the huge positives from that game, we are more than a match for the champions and really should have won it.

well done raheem excellent first start in red, everyone played well today, and two silly errors cost us

Right - roll out the "unlucky brigade again" ...it should have been a penalty, we were robbed etc etc..we know..I am sick to death of nearly performances. The players, BR, team have to have the ability to put points on the board by winning crucial encounters. Killer instinct, clinical finishing. I have to say I am very disappointed with a draw. But hopeful of victories for the next 3 games.

The letdowns were not anything to do with br players..just a great performance,,we will be fine

26 Aug 2012 17:53:22
Brilliant game! Showed we can really play and that we have a good squad. We keep kicking ourselves in the face though, over and over and over again.

Fair play though, if we can cut out the mistakes then we'll be grand.

passing around the back nonsense....under rogers regime...will cost us so many points this seasons...just look at the pressure west brom put us under when we kept passing around dangerously at the back

oh well.

In the beginning it might but over time we ll iron out the silly little errors

Liverpool teams of old played from the back ala Hansen etc. You draw the opposition to you giving room in midfield.

What kind of "sport" are you talking about mate mate? Absolute irrelevant rubbish.

I would keep carrol, and make downing available. For the price we are willing to sell him for as well i can see more teams being interested in him. Then once downing has gone we can get dempsey or even sturrige. Carroll is a danger to other teams no doubt

It was bound to happen - the 1st back-pass to Reina took ELEVEN seconds, the 2nd NINETEEN seconds and the 3rd 1 minute and 59 seconds. It's a feature of every game and only ever leads to a disadvantage as Reina is never able to give a good delivery. I was thinking just a few minutes ago that Rodgers should set up a charity called 'The Pass-back Charity". Every player that passes back to Reina should be made to donate to this charity.
Dutchmal {Ed001's Note - why? It is part of the way Liverpool played in the years they dominated. Perhaps you should go and find some videos of us playing in the 70s and 80s and educate yourself as to why we have 11 players on the pitch.}

You need to watch our away games in europe in the 70`s & 80`s mate, always been the liverpool way, unfortunately it cost us today, but the goalkeeper is there if you need to go back, and by the way pepe`s distribution is as good as any keeper i`ve seen

Very true Ed, but in those days the keeper could pick the ball up! lol :) {Ed001's Note - makes little difference, the idea is still the same, to use every player to spread the play and make the opposition chase the ball. Keep doing that for 85min and they will be there for the killing in the last 5. It used to work for us and now it is working for Barca.}

That is what tiki-taka is all about mate! 'Keeping' the ball and not hoofing it to the other goalie when under pressure.

A major feature of the tiki-taka system is that the goalie almost plays like a sweeper to the centre backs who drift wide to cover for the full-backs bombing forward. It might look negative when you pass it back to the goalie but it makes the opposition runners wildly frustrated due to the lack of possession!

And really? Reina and bad delivery?! Have you ever seen his long throws that reach a player even on the half way line? Or his flat goal kicks that are delivered with laser-accuracy? Remember mate, Form is temporary, Class is permanent!

sama491

Well said EDD001!

If only people forget hooping the ball up then they can learn about possession based football ed ! :P ... I don't understand what's wrong with keeping more of the ball with us instead of giving away possession in the fit of rage !

Indian Kopite

Hi Ed001 - I don't need educating about the 70s and 80s - nor for the 50s and 60s when I was watching regularly. The fact is that there are far too many unnecessary back-passes to Reina. The majority put him in trouble and he is not able to distribute them properly. By the way, we no longer dominate and when we do we make unbelievable blunders.
Dutchmal {Ed001's Note - well then you should know better, there is nothing wrong with the back pass, there is nothing wrong with him being put under pressure. Reina is good enough to deal with it, just like any outfield player should be able to.}

Well said ED001-Keep the ball is a must and if you have to go back to start again so be it.

I agree with Eds. it's something we've been lacking

Well said ED001-Keep the ball is a must and if you have to go back to start again so be it.

I agree with Eds. it's something we've been lacking

Spot on Ed,as we often used Clem and Brucie, in those bygone days. Some fans are unaware that our success was based on keeping the ball. It's not a new way of playing.

This is just a silly post, id much rather involve reina in the passing, than hit long balls towards streling, borini and suarez...

I don't know if any of you (mates?) know but it is now 2012. The past is gone and how we played then is irrelevent. I understand that the back-pass is SOMETIMES necessary but my point is that it is done far too often. Passing back to the goalkeeper from just inside your own half when seconds earlier you have been in the opposition penalty area makes NO SENSE WHATSOEVER. We don't want to keep the ball we want to give it to the opposition by letting them kick off a lot more often than we have in the past couple of seasons. By the way, you can insult me as much as you want but please have the decency to put a name.
Dutchmal {Ed001's Note - and my point is that you are just a whiner looking for something to whine about. You are like RedTurk, you are never happy, no matter what. I would hate to go on a night out with you, you must be a right little ray of sunshine! Why can't you just be glad for a good performance? Because the issue today wasn't too many back passes, it was sloppy errors, they are not caused by passing back too much. They are caused by not taking care and looking round before playing a pass. That is why head down players, such as Moses, are no good for the way we play.}

Brilliant bit of commentary by BBC here. Pretty much sums Suarez up:

"He's got an element of the Matt Le Tissier about him has Luis Suarez. Doesn't do tap-ins, but give him a 25-yard free-kick or a lob from near the half-way line and he is lethal."

-Shane.

Maybe Borini should be the one up front and Suarez behind?

Win, lose or draw, we're playing great. Still a few problems to sort out though:

1. Never enough men in the box when we break
2. Struggle to finish
3. Reina's still flappin'

Sort these out and we'll fly.

-Shane.

Reina is awful... Our weakest link bar none, meant to be the joker in the pack, the way he's play is a joke. That 18 yard area is his to control and he barely controls the 6 yard area! If you don't wanna play for us then feck off, there is beter than you!!

Will all the Doubters want to sell Joe Allen
When teams are offering 40/50 million in
A couple of years!!!

Surely you would means as you said we over paid
By 10 million loons

The only reason people were skeptical about this singing was the price and the fact that all our other home grown players have been terrible. But boy has Allen showed up. Theres zero confidence issue, i would say thats because of Rogers though. GREAT PLAYER

3-0 loss against west brom deserved a moan you moron. Liverpool dont lose 3-0 to anybody let alone west brom...

Good post, its amazing how all the moaners will come out and say how Allen is now a great buy and a bargain, tomorrow..who knows downing could be superman

for what these teams have paid we should of gone all out for jarvis, johnson and sturridge looks pretty tasty too
jaydee ynwa {Ed001's Note - why? Sterling is already better than all 3 of those!}

Actually ed001 he's better than all three of those put together!

Square tomato {Ed001's Note - that is actually what I meant to type! It would be lunacy to buy a player that blocks his route to the first team in any way.}

If you say so ed {Ed001's Note - I do, anyone with any footie knowledge would see that, Jarvis is average, Championship level at best, Sturridge is just a waste of space ball hog and Johnson is trouble. Sterling showed more in one game than all 3 of those have done in their entire careers.}

26 Aug 2012 17:01:16
How good is Sterling, the lad is just amazing!

HK

And hes only 17. He'll be an england international soon if he carries on.

26 Aug 2012 16:59:20
Team looks to have settled pretty well, a win today an arsenal and utd are going to be completely bricking it, i posted and said the same thing earlier, this game will make or break our season.
boom shelvey is looking awsome, gerrards replacement
already here, but not yet, gerrard had a dodgy first 10 mins but hes looking class, still another season left, cant wait to see sahin play, defo gonna get 4th.
Jaydee ynwa

This game will not make or break anything. We are shaping a future and regardless of the result today we are shaping a young squad that I believe will be a force for many years to come. That today apart from a couple of errors was a fantastic performance.

26 Aug 2012 16:58:16
Barcelona rumoured to be in for Allan...... Class player.!

Don't spout rubbish.

Are they after AllEn too!

Woody Allen ? :)

26 Aug 2012 16:56:58
Best first half performance for years. Hope it continues in the second half. Sterling, Allen and Shelvey awesome.

Even though it kinda feels like a loss with the end result after dominating the majority of the match, i think it bodes well for the future.

Sterling, Shelvey, Allen and Borini have great futures for Liverpool. The way they were hungry for the ball and we actually were playing the damn game we all love, which sadly hasn't been the case for a long time.

I had hoped to see Assadi, but was so happy for Carroll to come on, he didn't score the goal but he showed Rodgers he's got a lot to offer and the team switched and adjusted very smoothly.

Overall extremely positive, even with the defensive gaffs. Keep pushing and playing on and well be in the reckoning. I believe pressing is key for Liverpool F.C.

26 Aug 2012 16:56:20
For all those whp said joe allen was overpriced im sorry but this lad is something very special he is spanish-esq.
Borini sadly isnt 11m pounds we knew that everyone was so suprised better with stirridge. But way its going allen what a buy borini not so good. We need to start buying players thats going make dofference we cant just keep buying players that arent that good why do we always do it, adam johnson even fantastic. But hands up allen well done rodgers. 100% pass rate

Borini played well today.
Why try to look for someone to have a go at??

Lyndon

Yous have a good player in Allen, coming from a Man Utd fan. Im looking for honest thoughts on cleverley just seeing if you rate him same as much as allen

RedNdProud

Be honest and be fair to fabio, he isnt awinger, when he came central he got himself into good positions and did better second half

great performance all round just alittle gutted some small errors which will be ironed out cost us the game

tom1975

What game did you watch? Borini was class, worked his socks off and his runs/spacing into the box was world class. Unfortunately his finishing was not.

Imo when cleverly plays he controls the midfield for manu he's a very talented player
Jay

26 Aug 2012 16:54:59
Hi guys,

I'm watching your game and I'm hugely impressed with the progress you've made so far this season in the way that you're playing.

The only player who IMO has looked out of his depth is Suarez.

Now, don't all hate on me at once...but honestly he doesn't look like he knows his role, his shooting is woeful for a man of his quality and I don't think his link up play is good enough for him to warrant a starting place every week.

Onto the positives though I think Shelvey, Allen, the entire back 4 and Gerrard have been very impressive, haven't looked out of place at all. You guys are really showing City that they can't bully you.

The man of the moment for me though has to be Sterling, some of you will know how highly I rate this lad and how I think he's going to be absolutely world class by time he's 25. his movement, passing, tracking back, etc. have all been brilliant, I'd be impressed if he was a mid 20's player but when you consider how he's only 17 yet he's managing to give the Liverpool right hand side a torrid time really expresses his quality.

If I was BR I would consider the future of Suarez, selling him on for £25M+ might not be such a bad Idea. I mean imagine a front free of Sterling, Borini and then the addition of somebody like Gaitan or Rodriguez. Would be sensational.

I do have a question for you guys as well, now considering that Sahin is literally one of the best deep lying players in the world how do you guys see him getting into the side? Lucas is brilliant at what he does, Gerrard is, well gerrard haha. and Allen so far this game has bee terrific.

Do you think BR will change his system or just do the simple thing and Rotate?

The Moon.

Are you trying to trick us into selling Suarez? Oh btw yaya toure is awful you should sell him.

Dont think he will change he ll rotate and sometimes use gerrardon the right side of the attacking three, its good for the boss to have some selection headaches and hopefully sterling s inclusion willgive downing a good kickup the arse also

tom1975

Haha! Suarez just scored against you! Singred

'luis suares out of depth', nah he aint, u are out of ur mind, he is the game changer as we got no free kick specialist and he takes it and scores, for me the man of the match is luis suares clearly, i dont want the game to be like 'we got 70p/c ball possession and 100p/c pass rate we played good,we pressed hard by the ball but we couldnt create opportunity and unfortunately we lost'. hope luis suares creates and scores goal in coming days.

cheers

26 Aug 2012 20:17:39
@The Moon - I don't think Suarez is out of his depth but I do believe he should be more aware of other options like when Kelly was in the area all alone and Suarez ended up losing the ball, great freekick from him though and I'm glad to see Carroll get on the pitch also we did revert back to the long ball when he came on so maybe there is a Plan B after all. Good game and a little unfortunate not to take the 3 points.
KernowRed

26 Aug 2012 23:25:08
Firstly, my name is misleading, funnily enough i'm from the other side of Manchester.

secondly, I posted this before the wonder freekick. Brilliant goal.

My point about Suarez though is that he's a lot like Rooney, he has the ability to change games but because he's 'Wayne Rooney' or in this case 'Luis Suarez' I get the impression that he feels like he doesn't have to try as hard.

I thought you lot played brilliantly, especially young Sterling and Allen. great game of football.

@KernowRed - having a plan B is such a good thing...Barcelona don't have one and when you watch them against sides which defend well they literally don't know how to react, Arsenal tried a plan B with Chamahk and it didn't work as well. but what you have in Carroll (somebody who I much slated at first) is a player who can play with his feet as well, so he can fit into the current system and the plan B which will help you add diversity to your attack.

The Moon.

26 Aug 2012 16:51:16
watching this game i have got to say:
firstly, the nuri sahin signing may prove crucial if lucas is seriously injured. also it seems that any rumours of our interest in walcott should now stop as it seems to me that sterling is already as good as walcott and can surely only improve.
however, i do think we may need a goalscorer (our goal today coming from our centre-back) as i dont think borini looks very good in either of our first games unfortunately. so eds is there any chance of this sturridge rumour being true? and if not do we have any real goalscorers that we are lookin at? finally, what is the situation with dempsey? as the rumours have been on all summer that the deal is 'nearly complete' and yet it has still not happened

I think people are unfairly criticising borini, he snot a winger ,he cant dribble, but when sterling swung in the cross in the first halfhe was johnny on the spot, he sa million miles better played centrally, he needs players around him, he snot one that can do it on his own, his workrate is phenomenal, almost like hesgot dirk kuyt s engine and i feel he could be aright predator in the box,he s like a pocketsized ian rush

26 Aug 2012 16:49:44
that was a good half team looking good on the ball sterling doing the business on that wing too bring on the second half

Hi eds bit of a random question but have liverpool ever looked at Adam Lallana? Reallyy good midfielder but I know we have lots of mids already?

Latest buzz from Melwood is that LFc are to make a £14m bid for Fulham's Dembele hope this is true eds.

What another midfielder i doubt it kid

Would be a fantastic addition

Sure Fulham would happily sell another one of their key players to us due to the strong friendship we share with them at the moment.

If this Lucas injury is serious it's a bloody good job we've just got Sahin on board!
We might have an overload of centre midfielders but this exactly why, adding the depth is a massive step forward from last season - Good move BR

Still it will be a huge blow that we dont have our best DM. That injury last season weakened him :( wish it never happened. GET WELL SOON LUCAS

Looking at our squad what we need now is another striker maybe funding said player might have to happen from players moving away. But with these figures flotting around of Spearing 2-3 million, Adam 5 million and Cole 4 million. Thats 11 million towards Dempsey maybe? Thats if we can sell all 3. I'd love to bring in 2 attackers personally give some competition to the squad and maybe someone to push enrique too as Robinson is young and if Enrique gets injured for a long period we end up playing Glen at left back.

26 Aug 2012 15:33:13
never thought id say this but good luck and i hope you win today, if you do lose then i hope it's an embarrassment (like our 6-1).
PS: who's sterling?

If you dont know his name now, you'll know it very soon

Thanks for the reply but when you look at our bench, there is no one there we can bring on and make in impact if we need it, this is our biggest downfall. should of been addressed in the summer or atleast throw morgan and suso or texiera in the mix.RedTurk

I agree ed, but I would of liked him to sit on the bench to start to get a feel for it, know what I mean, and Sterling, his first start ever, baptism by fire,

Seems strange to me as well. If he's fit, would have thought he'd be on the bench at least, that way once we're up 4-0 with 15 minutes to go, he could come on for Sterling with little pressure ;-)

As good as I think b r is and will be in the future, I am disappointed that he refuses to give big andy a chance? At least even try to adapt. I really think it will be l'pool loss to see him go cause when he is fit and confident he is unplayable. Surely the manager should be more open to other styles of football as the tika taka does not always work. Anyways go liverpool and go team! {Ed052's Note - Where does he fit in thought. Downing, Sterling, Borini and Suarez are all better in that position/positions.}

But what is the use of playing with width and crossing the ball if there's no one to head the ball? and also crosses from set pieces? we've removed important options from our attack...it's ridiculous and makes us more predictable

Bring him on after 60 mins and watch those City defenders cry

4.if we offload him could we attempt a move for sturridge ?

thanks for taking time to answer :) {Ed052's Note - Yes, Newcastle and Villa, as well as West Ham. Spurs may be - but I wouldn't think so. Maybe, but we have neither shown interest in Sturridge nor made a move}

Of course there are interested teams...but they are smart and will wait until the last days when we become desperate to sell and lower our valuation to some stupidly low fee

Firstly i really cant believe all the doubters on this site, you have your right to express your opinion, but when you are posting on this site with nonsense with no inside information, saying the owners are letting us down etc... it really gets me angry because all the rest of us are in the same boat, just because some people have more optimism and a better outlook on the situation doesnt mean we love the club more or less than anyone. A lot of fans really need to have a little faith and understand we are a club with great history, tradition, but mostly our fanbase, and that is what we all need to remember, liverpool fc is not a club, its a family where everyone is welcome and nobody is judged and THAT is what makes us the greatest TEAM in the world!... as for me i am quietly optimistic that we can give the rest of the league a little shock and finish higher than the media or pundits think. YNWA

Calum

The problem with the owners

1. Football is not there true love

2. They aint rich enough

3. They see LFC as a brand to be exploited

Contrast the above with Roman {Ed052's Note - So, Yes they are, and wrong again}

So you've got a few billion tucked away and are going to buy the club? Or know someone who does? If not, what is your point? You can't just say 'I want new owners' and expect it to happen. It's not like buying a sandwich.

To your second point, fsg are the second richest company that owns a club in the premier league, only second to manchester city, behind the scenes fsg have spent huge amount of money rectifying our rotten core that rick parry left us! , to your third point... why would they try and exploit a brand ? they invest money because they want success, success comes from getting in champoins league and returning a profit, so if they get success, we get succes....... What happens when roman or sheikh mansour pull the leg? clubs ridden with huge wages and vast amounts of unserviceable debt! you hav no idea about how football works, if u wana sugar daddy go support a team with a blue shirt!!

Carroll heading back to Tyneside for an initial fee of 18mill which could rise to 22mill.

Not a chance at that price daft lad.

Not directly related to Liverpool but Eds what is going on with the Red Sox, I heard that they traded 4 of their players to the Dodgers. Are they in any sort of financial trouble?

S-U-B

My bad nine Players

No, they just cleared out some underpremorming players on big wages and brought in some potential players along with freeing up $250 million in wages. It is simillar to playing fantasy football and playing the wild card, clearing out half your team so you have space to get players you want. They will prob go for 3 or 4 top players in the off season.

They just realise that the players they recently traded do not meet expectations. They all signed multi million dollar deals and are not playing to the standard they should be. Alex Gonzales was the exception. Beckett disrupted the clubhouse by being too egotistical and Crawford has been injured for 75% of the time he was in Boston. The Dodgers just got bought out by some billionaire group and want to contend now, so the Red Sox saw this as an opportunity to shed 250 million dollars off their payroll to rebuild. This could mean two things, one they are rebuilding for the future, or two John Henry is trying to make the Red Sox more manageable to sell as he has had enough. I highly doubt FSG are in any financial trouble though.

-Lakai

They are getting rid of under performing player on big contracts ready to replace them....

No trading players is the way while in season with baseball!

They traded Adrian Gonzalez(underachieving on a huge contract), Carl Crawford(huge contract and just had serious elbow surgery), Josh Beckett( not huge contract but aging and underachieving this year) for younger prospects and to get out from under these contracts will save them 260+million over the next 4-5 years...as a guy who watches baseball everyday although as a phillies not a redsox fan, i can say its a smart move on the sox part though some may disagree.

phillyred

They traded 4 to the Dodgers and recieved 5 from them. All the players are on huge wages and have underperformed massively. This is actually a majorly good bit of business by them, most of the pundits believe it is excellent and it gives them the freedom to go out and sign some other better players now. FSG are fine mate.

KiwiRed

Read it was they traded 3 players, one good player(bit of a fan favourite), one who was always injured and one who was a massive disruption to the team, all had massive contracts for a bunch of young players who are on a way smaller salary.

Basically they traded 2 players who where on way to much money and one who was playing up to what he should be.

Now they have a big amount till they hit the salary cap. Seems good in the long term maybe bad in the short term but heard this season was a write off anyways.

To prove this press the disagree button if you agree

Martin Jol on Clint Dempsey: "I am not a person who will not forgive a player. I loved him last year but I have not seen him much this year. If there is no bid what can I do? I cannot sell him to the non-league or put him on loan at Stevenage. Maybe something will happen next week. He really thought he would be on the move four or five weeks ago. His head was turned. He thought it would happen in the next couple of days and it didn't."

Is this LFC playing its cards just right and waiting till the last minute to ensure that a low bid is accepted? Not clear to me why we haven't yet put in a bid otherwise? Any enlightenment, Eds?

Cheers.

Not a rumour but heard from a young Liverpool player that downing is playin lb against man city today mentioned about Robinson and he told me that BR thinks he has no personality .dont no what that means :S

Robinson looks class tho, for his age. has good control on the ball. knows how to defend, get forward. he should be perfect backup.

Walcott on the bench , still chance that he will sign ?

I'd rather we sign Walcott than Sturridge...

Id love any 2 of dempsey sturridge walcott

Hi eds. just a general question, would anyone be able to explain how the whole visa situation works. I was just wondering why so many players now a days have problems getting into England because they can't get a visa.
Thanks :) {Ed002's Note - The situation with work permits is that a player will be granted one if (a) he has played 75% of games at full international level for two years for a country ranked reasonably high up, or (b) if an exemption is applied for and granted under the "exceptional talent" provisions. For example, if a case is made to the authorities that a young South American is a demonstrable talent and clearly one for the future, it should be reasonably easy to have an exemption granted. If however, a pretty much run of the mill or average player was being bought and it was clear they are not appreciably better than those which could be found locally, or are being bought because they are cheap, then it will be much more difficult to obtain a work permit. The downside of the system in the UK is that the "bigger" English clubs can cherry pick the decent talent available and can obtain exemptions, and the rest of the players are assumed not to be talented enough for an exemption (as Chelsea or Manchester United etc. don't want them) and therefore obtaining the exemption is much tougher. Some players can obtain work permits through their parents or grand parents being English.}

Just to add to the eds comment, they often don't need a work permit if one of their parents/grandparents is from any EU country, as it entitles them to nationality of that country and then EU freedom of work means they can work anywhere in the EU. So many Brazilians, for example, have a Portuguese relative, and so do not need a work permit {Ed002's Note - It is rather more complicated than that. My father was Scottish but I still need a work permit for here.}

Just giving everyone a heads up; there will be no more ins OR outs in this window. Transfer activity is complete. Main reason for this is that we are unable to shift our deadwood. Disappointing I know but thats the reality. Time to accept the team as it is and get behind them for the rest of the season, expect results to get worse in the immediate future but they will improve as we get to grips with Rodgers' style of play. "The night is darkest before the dawn" as they say!
Y.N.W.A.

The Ghost

Load of rubbish. Guarantee this isn't the case and there will be movement.
Cal

Thanks Brendan

You say "get behind the team" after calling players deadwood.i think U need to get behind the team. you should think before u post.

eire red

You are partically right Mr. Ghost

There may be one more out and one more in.

Also results will be eratic and the owners will bear with rogers as he is there pick and no one else of stature wants the job

Should have left Kenny however that water under the bridge!

Owen is set to return. I got this from a board members son. I'm not sure if this is a good signing. What do you think ed.

Be quiet you fool, why dont you leave a name next time

Shock signing ever! If true but I extremely don't believe it is.
I do know that Everton are amongst others for him and although Everton appeals to him, they can't afford the wage he wants. However watch this space.

I havnt heard anything post last week.
As far as I'm aware, everton stoke ans west brom are the only interested ones from the premiership.
Maybe eds can help better

Michael go away, Brendan is not interested in signing you. You are hated by us and we will not forgive the comments that you made about wanting to join the whilst still with us. I would rather have a dose than have you wear our great kit again.

Hearning Coates and Sterling are starters. No Carragher

Hope so tbh carras past it,legend but its time to take a back seat. to slow to keep up with the young forwards.

Is It true that Loic Remy is linking with LFC latest? For only 13m . {Ed002's Note - The quote is a year old.}

26 Aug 2012 12:37:00
Ins:
Fabio Borini - 11million
Joe Allen - 15million
Oussama Assaidi - 3million
Nuri Sahin - Loan
Clint Dempsey - 6million

Outs:
Dirk Kuyt - 1million
Fabio Aurelio - free
Maxi Rodriguez - free
Alberto Aqualiani - 3million
Craig Bellamy - free
Joe Cole - 4million
Charlie Adam - 6million
Andy Carroll - 18million
Jay Spearing - 3million
Dani Pacheco - 1million

Yet the media will still say " well he spent £35 million on players" , when talking about Liverpool

We overpaid on players regardless of promise but factual on present..
Borini - value is 4-7mill ( we paid 11m)
Allen - value is 5-8m ( we paid 15m)
Dempsey - value - 4-6m ( maybe we get that right but probably we will pay 11m).

We also sold players on the cheap..
Kuyt is worth 3-7m
Aqualani is worth 5-8m
Cole is worth 4-9m
Adams is worth 4-9m
Carroll is worth 15-19m

I think you have been playing too much fantasy football with your valuations

£9 million for joe cole? who are you, dalglish?

The people who write for Give Me Football are persons then!

26 Aug 2012 12:26:38
I would rather lose and play well than win and be outplayed today. The negativity from the fans come from losing 0-3 to westbrom and not realy even playing ok. We didnt deserve a point last week. Regardless of the score today we need to see that we can play better.

So you want a repeat of last season?

WTF i would take a win all day no matter how we play. a win is a win after all

Are you mad? did you enjoy finishing 8th last season playing 'well'

That gets managers sacked!
"Top four or your out"!. Now how is that for pressure? Mind you it should be "top four or your out", " but we will give you tremendous compinsation that will only affect out transfer kitty.. Then we will go and pay a club a rediculaus compinsation amount so we can try again". "thank you".

So when champions play badly and win 1-0 , if you supported them you would be unhappy? dont be silly its all about getting results no matter what, and if we win 5-0 and play amazing then thats great, but id happily win every game 1-0 with 10 percent of the ball, cos it would mean we would be the champoins. be careful what you wish for!

I'd take a boring 1-0 win any day and if we do that every match, I'll be more than happy!

Keith

Your an idiot. U would rather play well and finish second than not and win the title. Bell
Tommy.

Utter garbage. i would rather scrappy 1-0 wins than play like barca and loose. anyone who says different is a fool.at the end of the day its all about 3 points

eire red

How so a repeat of last season?

Last season we outplayed Citeh.

Our problem was carroll was mis firing and we had no strength in deepth

No much has changed to this season really except we have lost Kenny and SC

26 Aug 2012 12:21:27
Will the new signing, Ousamma assaidi be in the squad vs city today or not? Looks a class act, and when will Sahin make his debut for us?

Sahin is just watching today

26 Aug 2012 12:19:03
Out if our 1st 12 league games, I can only see us getting 8-10 points.
D'ya think the board will look at the situation and realise they've made a mistake in bringing in Rodgers.
I personally think they will get rid of him. It then wouldn't suprise me if they got somebody in for a few seasons to get the confidence back I.E Harry Redknapp, he does well everywhere he goes and gets the best out of players!
He's gotta be betta than Rodgers!
PT77

Great to see we have fans like you backing the manager and the team.Real shot in the arm.

While I agree that we may be in the relegation zone after our first five games, Harry Redknapp is not a better football manager than Rodgers, end of.

ARE you for REAL

Have you read Redknapps CV - not many trophies on it.

You call yourself a liverpool fan your an embarrassment 1 game in for god sake stop moaning and support the team or jog on

Rednapp is a terrible idea for liverpool.
Some managers arnt suited for certain clubs and Rednapp wouldnt be able to adjust up north.
The prospect of our hot seat is some what mouth watering and honourable and Rednapp just isn't a good fit.

Don't you think that our hasty mistakes in sacking Benitez and Dalglish to early would be lessons learned?
We have Rodgers now and it cost a fortune to get him. So let's be positive and support the guy.
Other than Mourinho and Gauriola, there really isn't much out there.
BR may just suprise you.

PT77.............. DO ONE.

Stevie.

You are right mate 'arry would be better than rogers but not by much

26 Aug 2012 12:11:34
Apparently Sterling is starting today.... is this true?

26 Aug 2012 12:11:19
If carra plays today, where in big trouble,If our manager can't see that, then its a relegation fight for us..

Have to agree - brilliant servant he has been but he is just off the pace these days and not as comfortable on the ball as Coates. If Coates doesnt start it indicates to me that BR doesnt think he is ready and after paying 7m for him and having already had 12 months at the club thats not very positive for the rest of the season as Skrtel and Agger will have injuries and suspensions. Would prefer to see Kelly start at CB rather than Carra.

If carra starts player power is still a very big problem hes to slow now. legend maybe but if he loves the club he shoul do whats best and step aside

hello quick query will assaidi be available for selection today..thanks {Ed002's Note - If fit, yes.}

Hi eds, do you think Tom Ince should of been let go so easily? Was he of a good enough quality to stay with us?

Thanks

Zero {Ed002's Note - He left not because of his skills as a footballer but for other reasons. He is gone. Suck it up and move on.}

He left because him and his dad pushed for wages that were ridiculously high for him. and no, not lfc starting xi quality

You mean the 10,000 he is on now.

Lol if the below poster think Blackpool are paying anyone 10k p/w

26 Aug 2012 11:55:13
ed- just to clear something up its a quick question regarding sahin. is there any hope that if we get behind sahin and he enjoys his time at lfc that we could sign him on a full time contract. {Ed002's Note - He has not yet kicked a ball for Liverpool - he has stated he wants to fight for a place at RM. I have no idea what will happen next summer.}

26 Aug 2012 11:54:17
I hope I am wrong but Jelavic may turn out to be a much better signing in the EPL than Borini- dont shoot me down but I am one of many fans who are unhappy about us wasting money in the transfer market

Blimey.. maybe our players should just not bother turning up to play if youve written them off before theyve even had a chance..
Get a grip!. Everton got a fantastic deal with Jelavic.. good for them!.. How about we do something radical and support our own players just because we should!
*shakes Head*
ItsNotRocketScience

The second poster i know what your saying but why do the likes of everton get players like jelavic, miralles and what looks like the young french kid so cheap, we pay a fortune for average players downing, adam, borini, hendo even allen at that price, it just does my head in. ASHY

Ive no idea mate but as fans thats not something we can control.. all we can do is support OUR team.. Everton and Newcastle have both come up with a few gems of late.. but I dont care.. thats their team.. let their fans whoop about it.. Borini plays for us, its him ill be cheering on to score every week.. and if at the end of the season he hasnt proved himself, then we can knock him but we have to give the kid a chance surely!?
ItsNotRocketScience

All teams have bought good players and bad players. Get over it and move on.
Red sheep.

Everton fan in peace. We get bargains coz that's all we can look for. 2games in, im def not getting carried away. You lads have some cash so can afford the more obvious talent. Your signings are all quality players. Dating back to the start of your new owners tenure. Just get behind them, support them, back them, and they will thrive. don't get on their backs. give your talented manager a chance to build something over the length of his contract. Let the players come good. who knows, maybe we are both on the up and can battle for something more than 6th/7th...

my prediction for this year for the premier league and other cups not for fifa's and other kids stuff,

chelsea gonna win the premier league i.e,

1. chelsea
2. man city
3. liverpool
4.man utd

carling cup winners; sunderland
fa cup winners; chelsea

europa league; liverpool to make it to semis

champions league; real madrid

redh0t

Absolutely no chance....Sunderland won't win the league cup.

I fancy Arsenal for a cup this year.. Probably league cup.

LFC will only make third in your dreams

Maybe third last more likely

Chelsea
Citeh
Utd
Spurs
Arsenal
Who cares after that

Does someone know if sterling and Carroll are involved in today's game vs City??

Thank you

I thought Kagawa was a good player for BD then he went to man poo i was unhappy with that , then we were getting Sahin i was over the moon then arsenal sold song so my heart was on Sahin to Arsenal, then i wake up to Sahin has Medi at Melwood. All this is not good for the ticker

?

Gooners want Cheik Tiote.

Getting our targets is a good thing no

Eds i think you should put a banner at the top of the page saying there isnt an option to buy in the sahin deal, and he cant play today

Can we also add a banner saying "We know we need another striker"?

26 Aug 2012 11:24:03
Hi eds!
Sorry for copy&paste.
Frederic Guerra, the agent of Loic Remy:
"Nothing has been settled yet but I
know that Liverpool are having a
meeting about transfers and we
expect something this week. Remy is
pure gold and I am not saying that
because I am his agent. He has great pace and that is something Liverpool
need in attack. He is ideally suited for
the English game and while he is
determined to go to the Premier
League, his heart is set on playing for
Liverpool".
£13m price tag, any chance ed?
Thanks!

This is from when Roy Hodgson wanted him!! 2 years ago...

26 Aug 2012 11:14:01
we definately need another striker

brendan keeps mentioning suarez as a striker but he always says he is a winger

his finishing also suggests this

borini and carroll don't look like they have many goals in them

we need a real finisher, quick, pacy and skillful

When did suarez say he was a winger, he is a centre forward who creates chances but is not a striker.

I thought he said suarez was a whinger

26 Aug 2012 10:54:13
Looking forward to the game this pm just hope we go at them and be positive!

Just picked up that Boston Red Sox have just traded three of their top paid players with LA Dodgers which will save FSG $260m in future salaries. It is argued in the press over there that this is the start of the rebuilding of a declining Boston team which is having a poor season and that Henry sees LFC as his cash cow for the immediate future and he realises he's gotta send big to compete in the Prem.

Who knows maybe one or two surprises in this and the next transfer window with those big salaries off the FSG payroll?

Paul B

26 Aug 2012 10:50:26
Are we interested in any real world class finishers because I think what we are missing is a 20+ goals a year striker to help Luis Suarez?

Sure we must be interested, but are they interested in us with no CL and no LFC player earning around 200k per week?

Highest paid LFC player Stevie well short of 200k a week

26 Aug 2012 10:47:29
Not sure BR quite knws how to handle the carragher situation. Clearly carra in the team playing a high line is recipe for a thrashing. But how does he drop a lfc legend to 4th cb and avoid a fan backlash? And would there be a backlash if carra's dropped to number 4? This is the million dollar question BR will have to answer more sooner than later.
YNWA The Pirate

Fans can't have it both ways and I think Carra probably realises that. For the club to be moving forward new blood needs injecting and Coates should be given role.

Like to see Sterling start as well today. Huge potential...

Dirks Engine Room

5th choice. Agger, Skrtel, Kelly, Coates then Carra in my book.

I don't think he'd face that much backlash, to be honest. I think the fans know Carra's on his last legs, BR knows it, Carra knows, heck, the whole world knows it. No time to get too sentimental....

Doha Red

I don't believe there would be a backlash, if Carragher is dropped. He just cant play at this level any more. Time for him to hang his boots up. He's been a great player for us, but time for him to call it a day!!

Rodgers obviously knows what he is doing in respects to Carra, he is now being used as a fringe/squad player who will play in the cup games i.e. Europa,fa and Carling - Not in league games unless injuries or suspensions. Fans and Carra himself know he is no longer good enough to play week in week out. So he wouldn't face a backlash from fans, we all know as well agger and skrtel are our best cbs for the present. Because of inability to look at the team week in week out and work out how Rodgers is using carra. I thought I'd help you out so you know it is something he answered pretty quickly

Chelsea are experiencing a similar situation with John Terry. Carra wants to help the team, if he isn't in it he knows it's on merit and that's something every player has to deal with sooner or later.

Carra has been a great servant and will be helping the younger players focus and deal with the pressure, not hindering their development. He's a model professional and has an eye on management himself, so he'd have a good idea of what he'd do in a similar situation if he were manager.

They'd be no hard feelings, Carra would just see that he is mentally focused for when he is called into action. The fans are the quickest to notice, sometimes even before the manager, so the fans will let Carra know, if they haven't already. Also Jamie will know his body and that it's slowing down.

He got to see a great in Hyypia retire and do it the right way and will no doubt be wanting to emulate his defensive rock of a partner since. Honoured to have watched him play and hope he brings a few more performances out of the bag this season.

Ollieston,

Carra has let the game pass him in such a way that it's obvious to all the fans so there would be no backlash...the only minor disappointment to his legend is that he hasn't fully realised it yet

26 Aug 2012 10:37:53
Man Utd will not sign any more attacking Midfielder this is the time for Liverpool to make a bid for Gaitan of benfica. How many people agree ?

Please donate 30m to the club then they will buy him. Chop

Spend the 30m on Damiao...a much needed striker

MerseyRed You do remember that rafa left us in 7th place when he finally departed, and his deluded rants were comical and embarrassing to the club. People seem to believe he was forced to sell Alonso but who could blame the man for wanting to leave after the way Rafa treated him in his pursuit of Gareth Barry(seriously). He must have tried every avenue available barring auto trader to get rid of him. As for your if's and buts arguement, well that works both ways and is just part of life. If Gerrard hadn't of scored those wonder goals vs Olympiakos and west ham then he'd have won no trophies. Those things happen and is either good luck or bad, He should have won a league and he would have, had he not made so many bad decisions and tinkered with the team against 'lesser' teams. I think he knew that himself and that's why he unravelled in his final season. MonaghanRed

Hey amigo do you remember Gerrard's article in the Mirror pushing for us to sign Barry that started the ball rolling or one you will remember, Gerrard battering that guy in the bar hours after slamming the Toon and going top ? Days later came the infamous ' Fact ' rant, which pretty much did for Benitez but it took all the heat off Gerrard which was the intention. SG wasn't the same after his arrest and it all went tits up from there so don't stack it all on Rafa
Danny Carey from the band Tool

Mate Alonso had mediocore season and benitez wanted money to streghten the squad at other hand Gerrard had fantastic patnership with barry for england. The only option was left was to sell Alonso to juventus for £17M+ in order to buy barry but Alonso refused after that alonso had fantastic season and we came 2nd and madrid wanted him but Alonso wanted to go despite benitez refusing to sell him and we got £30m+ for him and hicks and Gillet refused to buy barry coz we agreed with aston villa £13M but man city offerd £18M
If we are honest Alonso had only 2 fantastic season for us out of 5 mate

Benitez wanted players which were blocked by board and forced to buy other targrtes

1) Aguero age 17 transfer fee 12M but Moore refused to fund saying he was very expensive

2) David villa 18m refused by moore and was forced to buy roby keane

3)Dani Alves before going to barcelona Fee 12m but again was refuse by board

4) David silva transfer fee 17M but again was refused by board

5)Jovetic refused by board

Imagine if Benitez was backed by board we would be sitting here and talking how we are dominating world football mate

All that champions league we played.. Ranked number 1 in Europe.

Wasnt just the Americans who wanted him out it was fans too.
Now we have slipped in our pecking order and only dream of champions league once again.
Even the Rafa haters must agree that at least he got us noticed.
I'm sure if he was still in charge then the season after 7th he would of put us back into the top four and champions league again.

Hopefully BR can get us back

Anyone else get the feeling that if we do OK with Sahin he may want to stay? After seeing his interview he seem pleased to be here!

Mike S

Haha i knew someone would say thi. I don't believe Sahin was Proud to come here. He just wanted to get the crowd on his side. He is hardly goning to turn up all depressed and claim he just wants to go back to Real Madrid but this is the reality :D

We have no money left we have to sell players to generate funds.....irish kopitie

He's just using us to get back into shape

In defence of all the eds and the work they do (in particular ed 2) they display transfer/ loan fees in full Inc. all the fees whereas the media don't. ALL buys and new contracts that are signed will also have tax and agent fees etc but these aren't displayed by the media and therefore many fans on here seem confused about fees payed for players. Here's a question for you Eds. as it stands at the moment, we haven't put in any bid for Dempsey. BR has said that he has already spent his transfer funds. Putting the two together, do you think that Dempsey coming is now dependant on shipping someone out (I.e. Adam, Spearo etc).

Scouser Tommy {Ed002's Note - I think there is a good chance that Dempsey will arrive.}

26 Aug 2012 09:49:46
On the subject of AC, 50% of us want to give him a go and 50% want to get rid as he has no confidence and isnt scoring goals. The lad wants to prove his point at Anfield so why don't we create the same scenario as Sahin?
Lend him to West Ham on a season loan without the option of purchase, if he starts scoring and gets his confidence in a team that's more his level we can then decide on how we want to utilise him or not.
I realise we dont get any sales fee in straight away but we can probably get a few mill back in wages etc. And we could get a few mill to add a 'sale at end of loan' clause if we felt we need it. It may be a way of getting more than his value back over a season or a confident goal scoring player. Surely we have a business manager that can eek out some sort of deal that suits everybody. Maybe not?

Wish they could hear us mate!
REDistani

Problem is, we need the transfer fee to find a replacement for Carroll. If we loan him out, we cannot bring in anyone else and will be even weaker up front!
I think we should keep him personally. He would have scored last week if he had the same chances as Suarez. People think all he can do is head a ball, forgetting he's got a cracking left peg.
Spasmith

Sell Downing, Adam and Spearing...that's decent money right there...15m if we're lucky

26 Aug 2012 09:48:49
Nothing solid but have heard that is highly unlikely Agger will leave not just because player not desperate to leave us but Liverpool made enquiry about Dzeko coming the other way on loan with option to buy.

I expect with Aguerro injured city now will go for cavani as expected and not let Dzeko leave anywhere till Xmas.

Ed do you think that its more realistic if we don't sell its a loan deal we are looking at , if so any good loan targets you think we could have a chance with?

By the way great site this week was. {Ed002's Note - I expect Dzeko to leave but don't know that Liverpool are in the loop at all.}

Now that A.Johnson's gone to Sun'land, its Dzeko now eh? People need to realize that p/e are very rare and hard to get.

The sites been a great read the last week great stuff from the Eds
Looking forward to giving city a real tough time at Anfied today . Ed just wondering in terms of forwards apart from Dempsey who is a good player but we are probably going to pay a ridiculous sum of money for a player with no resale value. And maybe sturridge is there any news on any other strikers ?

I hope we can sign a forward and keep caroll, maybe it won't be the star signing we all dream of are there any cheeky loans of bargains out there do you think?

hey lfc fans.........

yes im happy we have another player....

buttttttttttt

its not going to make any difference to the problem with scoring goals...........we just loaned a player from real madrid who plays in the same role as alonso..and lucas.......a number 4 role..... so iv got nothing to smile about unless we loan or buy a striker..simple as that

Klaas Jan Huntelaar will sign for LFC next week

26 Aug 2012 08:50:37
What liverpool need now is a player who can put the ball in the back of the net on a regular occasion - i.e. Dempsey, i would love to see him at the club, eds do you think we are in the driving seat to sign him?

P.S. Wouldnt want to see us signing Sturridge - step back in my eyes. {Ed002's Note - There is a good chance of Dempsey still.}

Just two observations about some of the results from yesterday. Swansea is doing pretty well, so Rodgers did something good and WBA tied at White Hart Lane, so ......

HK

So clarke and rodgers would have been great ;)

Swansea doing well because they had a squad that understood the Rodgers Barca-philosophy and aquired a manager that has the same Barca-philosophy - Laudrup. RED LENIN

Good to see sc getting a draw at spurs top bloke.

I think hes trying to say avb is rubbish lol...........

Have to say, if Liverpool don't win the leage this season, I hope Swansea do. Not a maga bucks club and good luck to them.

Barca wouldn't get beat 3-0 to West Brom

26 Aug 2012 08:34:50
Good morning eds. I dont think it is a loan with a permanent switch deal for sahin, i think it is just a loan deal. But if liverpool want to buy sahin permanently at the end of the season, do you think RM will let him leave and join us ? Thanks a lot....

MIHIRED {Ed002's Note - It is impossible to say what will happen in a year. Real Madrid were happy to sell now but the player wants to stay to fight for his place in the side.}

Was that the case Ed? Do you know what RM were looking at regards a price to sell him for? Out of interest really as the fee plus his wages over a 4/5 contract and his injury record would have probably made him 'unpurchasable' by LFC anyway, but just wondering.

Nick {Ed002's Note - They quoted an "unreasonably high" price to AC Milan.}

Just read the Sahin interview.

Alonso has told him Anfield is the best stadium in the world and us fans will look after him

I know we don't need to be told but lets put everything into making the atmosphere an unforgettable experience this aft!!

I know last weekend wasn't the best start but I'm loving the signings we've made and am still feeling excited about BR's Progress.

Today will be a good day!

Until he has a bad game. Then the kneejerkers on here will slag him off to the hills

Thats it! We are liverpool and if anyone can get a result against city its us. Come on you reds! Johndog

Come on now! Its hardly kneejerk! We have had more bad games in the last 2/3 years than good ones. This is the reality.

Sahin needs to hit the ground running, we all say players need time to settle in but with just one season he will have to start well or all the "what a waste of money" will be ringing again, but i must say i am looking forward to seeing him play, i haven`t seen much of him but a lot of people on this site think he`s a great player, HOPE SO

When BR gets us playing like Swansea have last two games, with our quality, we'll be unstoppable. We'll be up there with the best teams in the world. I really hope the supporters and owners give him time, it will be worth the wait.

They are a lot better under Laudrup

Surely Laudrup can't have had that much of an influence in such a short space of time? Isn't he just picking up where BR left off?

Who we should've went for as I've said from the start

Dav001

Boot room blarney - they have been playing under laudrup pre season and the first 2 games of prem but they will get found out

Swansea have had a good start but they have had a couple of goals gifted to them in both games, let's not get carried away with ourselves. I think we will play well today and at least get something out of the game, good luck today lads :)

Swansea are well better under Laudrup they look so much better in front of goal, under rodgers we had the ball a lot yes i agree but we never did much when it came to scoring as you liverpool fans will find out.

They have played West Ham, and QPR great way to come to the conclusion there better under Laudrup. And if you watched the game they rode there luck v West Ham

Mike S

Why didn't we get laudrup

No they are not. They play the exact same way but now have a finisher by the looks of it. Sad person trying to go around the houses to already slag off Rodgers

Lyndon

If you don't think Rodgers philosophy on how he likes the game played hasn't had an affect on how Swansea are this comfy on the ball then you don't really know a lot about footy.
Jonson

Strange Michu hasn't needed time to adjust to his team mates and has started scoring. Guess Hendo & Downing are just a little slow...

The manager can put forth and impart his ideas/ideals, his wants and wishes until he is blue in the face, however if the players aren't capable of transposing his words into actions then it will never happen, until Rodgers (if he is given the time that is) is able to bring in a few more agile, mobile and one touch players then we will never be able to play like Swansea, Barcelona or as I would prefer to have it - Liverpool of old!

Watching Swansea play yesterday it was so apparent that their style is based on players who can receive the ball either in space, or under pressure, that are able to play one touch and at a pace.

Their fullbacks are happy to receive the ball from Worm to feet and in turn have the ability to shift the ball forward into midfield - long ball hoofs? very, very rarely do or will you see it. Passing it straight back to Worm immediately after receiving it? very, very rarely do, or will you see it.

Once the ball has found its way into midfield their players appear agile and mobile, able to, and comfortable with turning with the ball, head up, quick pass, keep the ball moving at a pace and tempo. Shift it wide to pacey wingers who continue the trend.

The above paragraph isn't a lust fuelled homage to Swansea, it is a simple observation of how they play, and I'll admit the opposition can sometimes make you look better then you actually are, they aren't the best team I've ever seen, but I do appreciate the way they play, and i'll admit it would be nice to see Liverpool playing a similar fast paced, pass and move style for which we were renowned for - not Swansea's style, not Barcelona's style, not Rodgers' style - but LIVERPOOL'S STYLE!

I'm not saying our current squad aren't capable of playing quality pass and move football, they are, but not at a constant or consistent week in week out level. If we take our first half performance against Arsenal at Anfield last season as an example, and from a personal perspective, I thought that was some of the best passing football we had played for many a year (maybe a decade?), it was a joy to watch, however, whilst we tore Arsenal apart on occasions, we still couldn't find the net and ended up being sucker punched and losing. It's all well and good playing teams off the park however we still need to be clinical and as a supporter I would be more then happy to compromise all out beautiful football on occasions (if we can ever reach those heady heights again), for that dour one nil victory - but it will take time, patience, hard work and most of all pinpointing those players with the ability to put Rodgers' "words, wants and wishes" into actions.

Welcome to lfc nuri sahin.all the best and I hope you turn out to be a great player for us

He is a great player just Hope he sattle fast and adopt our style.

26 Aug 2012 07:53:05
It's unlikely but not impossible that Spearing, Adam and Cole will all depart. If that happens (and perhaps even if it doesn't) Dempsey will arrive.

The Carroll saga will run and run, probably up until Friday. I hope we don't cave for a low fee and if he stays he's embraced, as he can make a positive impact.

Personally I don't think anyone has an accurate idea of which striker will sign if he leaves, surely Sturridge won't happen, his ego and greediness doesn't fit BR's style at all. Walcott is an outside chance, but I think he'll stay put. Perhaps an unknown quantity like Asaidi would be wise. It would keep fans of their back and expectations at a more realistic level.

Sahin is a quality signing despite the fee's. He's an extremely high quality player and personally if he improves us, even for 12 months I feel it's a good deal. We've played over the odds for playelanka recent times and rankly been stuck with them. This time we paid a much lesser fee on a high quality player (who probably wouldn't join us permanently at the minute), who can really benefit us in the short term.

We're financially stable but need to build towards the future and that involves using youth and experience to achieve this. Sahin's move is a clever one, as it suits our non champions league status. Allen and Borini both look like good signings. Both won't be on huge wages and the fee's involved for two young internationals with plenty of experience isn't bad. Asaidi has that great unknown quantity and success or failure came for a small fee, so won't damage us too much.

Onto youth. Sterling wowed everyone against Hearts. I've watched him closely and thought his decision making wasexcellent. That's part of his game that'll take longest to develop, as will his upper body strength. His raw pace is electric but what surprised me was his work rate and passing/finishing are both very accomplished.

The one player that everyone's worried about is Suso. He had a great under 19 championship and BR was desperate for him to join the North America tour. He joined, played well in part and seemed to impress, but then he's back to the reserves. BR is new to the club, he must be taking advise from Rodolfo and for whatever reason they deem Suso not quite ready. Perhaps they feel he needs a rest given his busy summer, although he has been playing reserve football this season. He's young so got plenty of time but will want 1st team assurances before commiting to a long term deal. I really
hope he signs one as I'm hoping he'll become the player we hope he can be. He's a different type of player to Gerrard but could become his long term successor, a modern number 8. His vision, flair, shooting and free kick ability makes him a rare breed and one that perhaps will replace Sahin in the squad in 12 months.

I said the Carroll sage would drag on and so has my post. Apologies for those who've fallen asleep during it, I've been busy all week and needed to vent come the weekend.

Hope we all enjoy the game today and the outcome doesn't lead to mass outcries for BR out come 18:00.

With regards to Suso, i believe Sahin will be mentoring and assisting his blossoming to the 1st eleven. Wicked left foot, both of em has and with tutors such as Sahin, Gerrard, Lucas and Allen, he'll definitely grow to be a KOP fav and a legend! YNWA!!

what are your predictions for todays game? Im going for a 1-1 draw.

Would settle for that

B O H

Easy 3 0 win, if southampton can score 2 then we can score 3 or 4.

2-1 Suarez and Gerrard. Tevez them and red card for a city player

2-0home win

2-0 liverpool, i really think we will pull one out the bag today, although i did think we would win 4-0 last against wb so dont all go running down to the bookies lol

I think we will be 1 nil down after the first half and come back to take it 2-1 at FT.
KernowRed

My prediction is a good game.

3-0 win to LFC (watch this space)

I would settle for 0-0 or 1-1 now , then beat Arsenal 1-0 with an own goal or penalty , then there is a long break with no league games to get everyone settled in .

Im going for a 3-3 thriller with big Andy getting 2 and Suarez missing a hatful. If you look at my previous football predictions, you will know im right on the money. ;-)

The Irish Rover

I have 5er on us to win 2-1 its 10-1.Tommy Irish Red

3-1 to da'Pool

Hi Ed's, do any of you know if we inserted a Buy Back clause in young Ince's transfer to Blackpool??

Cant believe we didn't give kids like this the chance on the big stage when we were all too willing to fork out close to 50 mil on Downing, Henderson and Adam!!

Cheers

I'm Kinda sick reading question like can Sahin play tomorrow ? ... I suppose they bought FIFA 13 when they got sick of FIFA 12 ... I mean c'mon, EPL is not a fantasy league where you buy someone and make him play next day! .... Spend some time 'knowing' how football is played !

Hello?? ..Training, Knowing team mates, Knowing tactics and strategies, Your role ..do they sound familiar to you?

Indian Kopite

Suarez played his first game before ever training or getting to know anyone

I'm fairly sure we signed Enrique on the Friday, and he played against Sunderland the next day on opening day last year.

If your good enough and fit enough and registered why not play him?? I think you think you know more about football when you dont....

Speedy

He would have played if he was signed in time.

Fifa13 is not ot yet...is it?

So did Enrique and he had one off his best games

Sometimes its not a bad idea to thow a player straight into the deep end, the expectation on then is not so high then. I'd love to see him come on and score against the current champions.

I personally think alonso left because we was trying to sign gareth barry to replace him at the time

Daniel Sturridge will not be signing for us, same situation as Adam Johnson. All these rumours about us replacing Carrol and they are just saying sturridge COULD be a replacement. That does not mean we are interested at the moment. Dempsey is still the most likely to come in.

Because AJ went to Sunderland.
The likelihood of us signing Sturridge is quite likely..

You all may have your opinions on Brendan Rodgers, being a failure a success etc! I for one believe in time he will be a quality manager! He has transformed our squad by paper over the summer and hopefully the following summer we shall see the success! He may have not bought players challenging the likes of messi or iniesta or xavi, but you can see what he wants and I for one vouch for him that this squad will work! He's built a team and not just a squad list! By paper all the additions and previous players represent a tactical layout of different players with there own dimension of a position! Eg sahin- will be the playmaker higher up on midfield behind gerrard borini Suarez, Lucas will break up the play, and Allen will be the feeder and bring the ball forward! Hopefully the team can get in sync, bury our chances and claim the top spot once again! YNWA

Ed's answer me this:
how the heck did blackpool get £9 million and tom ince and we get charlie adam? Just another bad deal messers dalglish and commolli came up with! Please, please can we not buy overrated players again and released future potential with no buy back clause? But No were liverpool and other teams see us coming a mile away:
Carroll = £35m
Downing = £20m
Henderson = £16m
Adam = £9m
Not gonna judge rodgers buys until end of this season!
Unbelievable Geoff! {Ed001's Note - they didn't.}

Ince was a separate deal

Are you unbelievable?

Every week we go through the same mind numbing routine. YES LIVERPOOL HAVE OVER SPENT. We get it!! Lets move on! Hopefully the likes of Allen and Borini will prove value and we dont have to regurgitate this bull next year.

And Tom Ince? Seriously? If he has half the attitude of his father we dont want him anywhere near LFC, get a grip Unbelievable Geoff!

Liverpool Co-Owner John Henry just traded away $250 million in salary from the baseball team he owns, the Boston Red Sox. I do not know that amount in Pounds but I imagine it is a great deal that could go to purchases for Liverpool.

He did Not trade it! He pit his players in waivers which means any team can claim these players, in which they cliam they the opposing team that claim the player will pick up the salary for the rest of the contract, basically the Red Sox are rebuilding

Thats an investment that will be spent on the Boston red sox. Although we come from the same ownership company (fsg) we make our own revenue and so do they so if Boston red sox sell they will invest on themselves. If Liverpool sell we will invest in ourselves. Which to be hounest is a pretty good way of approaching it because it means dead wood gets shipped out. Hopefully we bring 1 more attacking player in.

Fsg have the red sox as a priority lfc are just a gamble which they hope they can make money on in the future. they are true americans and they love american sports.

People say get over it, but omg imagine Torres and Suarez? No wonder he got p ssed off with us=broken pronises and playing with inferior players. If only we'd kept him longer! Fookin H and G

He went for the wage increase and nothing more .We couldn't give him the deal Chelsea offered. The game has changed so much.Who would of thought five yrs ago, that an Arsenal player would force a move to Man City. It's all bout the wages. We are moving in the right direction as a club.We are bringing in younger players with potential,Sterling Texiera,Suso,Sinclair,by offering the lot more than their previous clubs. I predict that Sterling, will leave in the future, for a big profit, but he will leave. City,United and Chelsea, can offer him 200,000 grand a week,if he develops into a top player ,which I believe he will. Let's not bitch about not being at the top of the food chain, just enjoy supporting our great club.

I will sigh a great feeling of relief if Carroll is with us on 1st September. We need more strikers not less.
Watcing MOTD was depressing. Compared with our recent performances, everybody looks better !
For Liverpool, it is going to be a long hard season.

Sadred

Just wait and see. When we finish near the top you won't be saying the same and i imagine even you that agree with sadreds comment also believe we will finish top 5-6 at worst.

I do think we will have slow start as adopting new style and new players and we have some tough games, but i think it will be a good season

,Liverpool a great team with great traditions and history my first question is do we still have the famous boot room where shanks ,fagin, paisley used to do team tactics as i dont hear them talk about it these days. Also which team is the most supported world wide and lastly how could we fall from them dizzy heights since 1990 we havent won the title, rafa got close but had to destroy the team he built and then lost his job, was it just money that seems to get trophies and titles or have we just been unlucky or has it just been buying badly and poor management as a lot of really good players seem to go to utd for years and now man city and chelsea, when they used to come to us first so please whats changed - :oSALLY-

Souness got rid of the 'old boot room'....thats progress for you :-)
