Tottenham Hospur sign Gylfi Siggurdsson, according to Bild. Reported fee £7.6 million.
Shame we didnt get him Eds

Just think how the Spurs fans will feel, if this is true mate. They know that Modric will be off.

Modric or Siggurdson? That's a hard one. lol

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

Our own clubs fault if true, we are slow and never decisive, rival teams will always be given many weeks to out bid and out maneuver Liverpool while our negotiators just blow hot air.

I can't believe it but looks like sigurdssons has really gone to spurs!

Managerless spurs who pay peanuts and who will lose their best players , yep i can see him going there with avb lol

---------------------------------------------------------

Alonso, Torres, Mascherano, Arbeloa. I wouldnt throw stones when we live in a greenhouse pal. Plus, we are certainly not big payers. Why do you think we can't attract the best talent. In this modern day football industry, you either offer champions league football or pay big wages. We can offer neither.

Ozone

He has signed for spurs.

Here, Here, Ozone and well said

We can offer both of what spurs can offer (pay check and europa) plus we have brendan does not make sense to me?

Fair play to Eric Cantona. He went on to the stage at a HJC 96 gig in Lyon tonight. To support the fight for justice for the 96.

Hi Eds & Reds,

Why is it, that despite been told on numerous, repeated occasions as to why we have not signed any one yet, ie not had time to assess squad yet, international transfer window not open yet etc etc do people castigate Brendan Rodgers and FSG for not having signed anyone yet?

Patience is a virtue, have it if you can !!

Our trophy cabinet, history, fan base and reputation proves that we are a big club. Supposedly missing out on a transfer target (still think he'll sign) doesn't alter this fact!

Aston villa, Leeds Utd, Nottingham Forest, St Ettiene, Brussia Munchengladbach, FC Bruge, Standard Liege, Cologne. All big clubs with history. Where are they now we have big money in the game? Fallen by the wayside, de-industrialised cities and provincial regions with the football stadia sited in areas holding no significant real estate value. Times have changed big players go for the money and lifestyle. History's history, yesterday is now history, elation to a statistic and memory. If we win the league in the next 10 years I'll do a streak at Anfield.

I can't understand why so called supporters come on here and constantly moan. I could understand some of the complaining if the transfer window had closed and we have not strengthened the squad. We moan that we have lost signing a player to another club when no one knows and nothing has been confirmed. Either the people who constantly complain are not Liverpool fans or I am sad to say some of our supporters now adays are not what helped make our club so great by being loyal, passionate and knowledgable about football.

Here is where I am at people....
Thank god the euros are over and all the crap about England can win it has died a death!
Roy is a good man and very honest but he is out of his depth in the later stages of tournaments because he is a manager who coaches teams to play without the ball.
That is why I am happy about Brendan Rodgers as our manager. A man who wants liverpool to have the ball and do something with it.
This is not a criticism of Roy at all.... more than 1 way to skin a cat and all that... but I am excited by the prospect of watching us next year trying to play attacking football.
I do think that Kenny was on the right path but I also respect FSG wanting to put their structure in place. If I had spent 300 million buying a football club then I would want to dust the carpets down as well!
I am looking forward to next season not least because I will be able to get to a few games this year unlike last! ( young babies and football dont mix!)
I would like to see cole, aqua, kuyt(gone and good luck),spearing(with a heavy heart) and adam all leave the club.
If skertel wants to go then fair play( i reckon he wants a pay rise) he can be replaced.
I would like to see sterling, suso and texeira put straight into the first team squad and give them 10 mins at the end of games and most of the europa early rounds. For me coates should replace carra as first reserve at centre half should skertel or agger get injured and for me carra should start getting the coaching badges asap! I think he would be happy with a transition into a coaching role.
In regard to who we need... I think we need wingers/attacking midfielders/strikers in that order. I would be happy with a SIGGY for a start!
Thanks to all the editors... I have been reading this site for years now and it is still brilliant.... Apart from some of the nut jobs you sometimes get on here.... Empty vessels make the most sound !
Speaking of which I'm off.....

A good post , but i would like downing to leave aswell , he is not at our level , villa was his level , he does not need to bed in , and he thinks if he goes on the pitch he has done enough , he played very poor in a few games but was interviewed and he actualy said he thought he played good , he is a very lazy player who does not help his defence out or the left back , i seen him in a few games doing the same thing and that was running back with an opposining player he would run back so far then just stop , the defence thought he was going to keep tracking back and dropped a bit deeper and then realised they had a free player running at them , liverpool v a.villa was one of these game i think

25 Jun 2012 21:57:10
if he wants CL football that badly, surely he wont sign for Spurs either then?

25 Jun 2012 21:37:06
Sigurdson? Is this the calibre of player we should be looking at.? One good season at a over achieving club. Another Charlie Adam. Another henderson. We need proven midfielders to get us back where we belong.

A lot of good seasons at such a young age. Do more research

Atlast! Someone has a reasonable memory! it was exactly the same for those three, everyone hyped about them thinking they were great and now they're the players people are complaining about. Next July everyone will want him out be saying they knew this all along.

Awe mate really. here he will play near enough the same role he played at swansea whilst adam was playing deeper than he had at blackpool and hendo was often used more central for sunderland. maybe you could stop moaning. he will come good.

Question to the Eds. has Billy Hogan started work as the Commercial Director yet? Having seen Chelsea sign up to several commercial deals recently, and Man Utd are always signing new deals, I wonder if LFC are making any progress on that front.

RedSG {Ed002's Note - They were making progress by signing a Commercial Director. Try and avoid constant comparisons to other clubs.}

Billy Hogan was partly responsible for the Warrior Kit deal in his role as Managing Director of Fenway Sports Management, (marketing arm of FSG).

Ed you have to compare to see where you are,and what you need to do in any market to stay competative {Ed002's Note - Right so Liverpool's commercial policy is in seeing what other clubs do and then goining out to do the same. Great stuff.}

I don't think that is what anybody was suggesting ed? {Ed002's Note - So how do you read the words "you have to compare to see where you are, and what you need to do". I appreciate it is all simply rubbish of course.}

Ed your wrong,accept it! All companies need a gauge for improvement.No one said copying others.cept you!Your tunnel vision on this im afraid mate.Even Ayre said theyve studied other business models by the way! Such as Arsenals reciepts per seat.Anyhow if you want to compete commercially or otherwise.Same way or different,you have to know what your up against.You do compare and maybe you do have to explore other ways.Its what Henry said himself re.Anfield,Revenue and area we are geographically/economy wise.Did he make that up?Or compare doing relevent research.Your argument is gullible and almost childlike.(mean no offence)But even Armarni guage Ralf Lauren,Channel v Lauder etc etc.Or is your way why weve stood still for years.And i seriously dont mean offence.Not saying we can compete with all,but you have to look at your options.And maybe try alteratives. {Ed002's Note - Read the original post - it is regarding "commercial deals", nothing to do with stadium seats revenue, nothing to do with business models. All of that is fine and expected, but it is to do with the commercial revenue being gained by making agreements with third parties. You really have to grasp the question and understand it if you are going to critique the answer. The likes of Manchester United and Chelsea are looking to exploit commercial sponsorship streams and are doing very well at it. You have completely missed the point of the original post and the answer. Your being unable to grasp this matter is a good example as to why the discussion of the financial aspects of football are best avoided - as demonstrated by you not seemingly being able to take on board this tiny little matter and getting so upset by it.}

Sorry Ed,Should've made clear.My response 'directly above' was a reply to your answer 3rd post down.And it hurts me to see where we are,rather than upsets me.But its a harsh,real,big World beyond just LFC mate,And facts are you have to compare,to compete,to resource revenue streams whatever way you can.Competition is the world were in mate.Anyhow think weve debated enough.Can we agree on that? {Ed002's Note - Sure.}

25 Jun 2012 20:44:51
Eds do you believe alonso would ever return to liverpool? As i keep hearing rumours! Quite frankly i dont think he is fit to lace spearings boots! Just my opinion! Do you agree?

Ed, any info on the new stadium or redevelopment? Heard anything lately mate?

Thanks

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96 {Ed002's Note - Nothing since the statement from Henry Blair.}

Who is Henry Blair ?

SkiSunday.

In your opinion Ed mate. Was Henry's statement to let us know he favours redevelopment? I found it peculiar he would release such a statement in reply to a fans question. Still don't know why he thought the need to say anything.

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96 {Ed005's Note - In all honesty mate I think he favours redevelopment anyway however there have been many silly fans moaning on social network and in general that no news is coming out regarding a new stadium and I think he was just dealing with that. I think before he has spoken a lot about the advantages of a redevelopment. However it takes time to find a good solution financially and to work out a solution with the council and local residents and I think if anything he was asking for patience aswell.}

Second tiyer on top of the kop, second tiyer on the main stand but both of them from top goin down like anfield rd second tiyer this two can be so enormous from goin up to down anfield can get easely more than 60000, and un top we link this two wif the centenary third tiyer, man this can take us easily near to 70 or maybe 65000, and after few years later, the anfield rd stand make it biger wif a tunel on top of the anfield rd on one way that suporters can go out from the extention made on main stand and centenary stand, maybe half of the supporters, straight to the parking and this way less trouble bloking the street around anfield.

Think it's been put on the back burner Blair?
JWH's statement seemed to suggest as much, maybe put off until the team is back in CL and / or the financial climate is a bit more advantageous..

rumours going round that sigurdsons agent was at mellwood today

25 Jun 2012 20:33:27
whats with all this talk about sigurdson to spurs.
1. he's on holiday
2. he listened to rodgers advice when he said at least explain your decision before you move.
when rodgers made it clear he would only bid if he was made available, thats when sig knew it was rodgers that had faith in him and would follow to any team as long as rodgers wanted him. thats what most footballers want, faith from the gaffer!
jim

I agree with Ozone from an earlier post mate. Sadly it's not faith from the gaffer that most footballers want in todays game.

It's money.

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

Would any 1 even be bothered if sig did go to spurs and we got ramirez would take gaston over sig every day and twice on sundays lol

I would understand this if Spurs had a manager, but surely they must have a manager in place to buy players. Are they buying players irespective if a new manager actually wants them? Would seem strange to me.

The Irish Rover

Senario:
Irish rover, I understand you are in the market but instead of 35K a week ill offer you 50K a week. You'll have guaranteed 1st team football as VDV is leaving and we'll pair you with Sando. Come to spudz plz

He's not necessarily on holidays, he's been given extended leave to sort out a deal. He now has 5 days to get it in order before he's due back at Hoffenheim, if an agreement is in place and the club tell Hoffenheim, he can stay and sign on 1st July.

The style of football

More chance of regular first team football - especially if Modric moves on.

A nice plush apartment in London rather than in Liverpool.

I have just seen Siggurdsson follow Brendan Rodgers into the bogs in a petrol station on smithdown road.
He is desperate to join!
Looks like we can flush those siggurdsson to spurs rumours down the crapper!
jonnybarnes89-90

Spurs are skint. Levy would happily charge the fans extra per goal if he could.

He Will Join Liverpool. BR 1st reason and Liverpool is a world known club . how many people know spurs in world wode. mark my word Mordic will leave so do bale. spurs will suffer this year.

Having lived and worked in both I would choose to live in Liverpool.
And I'm not scouse so I am not bias.

Apart from all of them, give me one good reason why he would choose spurs over Liverpool ......

Tottenham area is a s**te hole mate.
If he as signed for spurs its purely money. As they are in no better position than us. At least we have a manager.
Lee73

My ex was born in Liverpool and work took me to London many times. I have apartments in both cities and in all honesty, living in Liverpool is a more family oriented place while London is loud 24/7. Both cities are great so it comes down to personal preference.
Much like new jersey and new York for my fellow Americans.

I believe we should really put our efforts into signing Gaston Ramirez. I watch Italian football pretty regulary and hes a real exciting player, the type thats really gets defenders wandering @which ways is he going to go', 'whats he going to do next' and really putting fear into the man marking him; exactly what we need. Upfront its got to be Soldado if hes available, and then De Jong as back up as I dont feel he's on the same level as Soldado. Honda should also be looked into (again), as I feel he would offer so much in terms of versatility, vision, creativity and set piece expertice, I dont know why we didnt sign him many seasons ago. Sigurdsson for me just doesnt appeal to me as a player who will dramatically improve our starting line up, maybe add to the squad but hes not much better than what we already have, however if we got him on top of the signings I mentioned or players of similar quality then there will be no complaints.
Opinions welcomed...

Liverpool will finish above Spurs next season.

That will make a change then

I think you are right, Spurs are in for a difficult season, losing modric is like losing gerrard, not irreplaceable but close. Also, Ledley King retiring and a lack of depth in the strike force, plus a new manager lots of problems indeed

I'm hoping 19 teams finish above spurs next year.

Hi Eds great site and you do a great job just ignore all the haters.
Anyway what would you say is the likliness of the pool signing the following:
Sigurdsson (despite the apparent interest from Tottenham i am led to believe he wants to be with BR)
Rondon

Tello
Thank you for any feedback

Am I supposed to be excited that a player who did ok on loan at Swansea maybe signing? Spurs can have him. We need major investment fsg - and not just players with potential. The level of expectation here shocks me. If we want champions league then we need at least 3 players IMO. A striker, a winger and a creative centre mid. I reckon 50 mil should bring this. I don't quite follow the majority here, we finnished 8th didn't we?

Gazman

Ever the optimist eh Gavman

LFCgreg

Any striker that comes in will be third or fourth choice depending on the matchup, with Andy and Luis our main strikers. Creative center mid - STEVEN GERRAD? And that's why Gylfi is being signed for, FYI you knucklehead. And a winger? Well, I agree. A right footed winger would be nice.

McSnuggles

GAZMAN,I couln't agree more, ARSENAL,
CHELSEA, MANU,are not standing still
CITEH have there team in place and while this is happening where waiting for an AVERAGE mid-fielder to come back off
holiday to sign or is he F......KING us
around get it sorted FSG or get out NOW..

auntie annie.....

Our strikers scored how many goals last season snuggles? You are the 'knucklehead' whatever that is my friend.

Gazman

I think "knucklehead" is an American term.
The impatience on here is funny. So the euro's are just about to finish and because we have not signed 500 players then it means we are in trouble big time next year..... MY APSE!
jonnybarnes89-90

The impatience is because others AGAIN are getting their act together quicker than us,for next season

I want to point out from the point of being a die hard LFC supporter and a fan of the Red Sox, FSG do not really let leak who they want to sign. They also listen to the manager and GM on team needs and wants. Two years ago the sox splashed over 200 million on two players and news of it didn't come out till 2 days before. So all the moaning bout missing out on this that and the other should stop. We will get players that BR identifies and fit the policy.

I dont get why everyone is going mad about Sigurdsson possibly/probably signing for spurs, hes a good player but hes not amazing. I think there are other players that are just as good and available. If he signs fine, if he dosent we'l move to other targets, this aint the first time spurs have targeted the same player as us infact it seems as though spurs approach every player weve been linked with for the last three seasons.

Exactly, remember Charlie Adam all most signing for spurs on deadline day of the january transfer window 2 years ago, when he was linked with us. Did they come back in the summer no. Same with Joe Cole, Harry was desperate to get him and did he no. Don't believe the rubbish on twitter and facebook, i only trust the ED's and MACCA. Si

Both turned out to be rubbish as well!

25 Jun 2012 19:13:39
is siggy going to spurs ed? am terrified we wont get him {Ed002's Note - Of course not. Don't upset yourself over this.}

This post sums up how far Liverpool have fallen

Has no on heard the saying "you don't miss what you never had"? If Siggy signs for us he could be a fantastic signing, if he doesn't we move on and look at another target. Simple as that. If he signs for spurs we can't cry about it because we would never know how he would've performed as a Liverpool player.
KiwiRed

Great news Ed002 wouldn't have been able to sleep fretting and worrying over where sigurdson might or might not end up would probably have been pacing the floor all night muttering obscenity's about spurs all night long into the wee hours until exhaustion finally took over lol seriously tho the op your letting something like that upset you you need to calm down do some breathing excersizes worrying about where a player may go you'l have had a heart attack by the time your 30 lol

25 Jun 2012 19:10:47
Out:
Skrtel ( only for good offer from moneybags city) - 25m
downing - 10m
adam - 5m
maxi - 3m
43mish + the 30m for summer transfer budget = 75mish

In:
vertonghen - 8mish
cissokho - 8mish
shawcross- 9m
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ - strengthens defence in quantity and quality without really spending.
sigurdsson - 8m
afellay - 6m
hoilett - FREE
ramirez - 15m
rondon? - 20m OR
de jong? - 10m

64/74m outgoing depending on striker, and in my opinion the squad would be strong with these changes. We were unlucky last year and with these new players I think champions league would be more than capable. How does Caroll fit into the side with a new addition up front though? Id be interested to see peoples responses......

Carroll will eat them and be our number 1 striker for years

£30 million Summer transfer kitty? Dream on! £10 Million max, if any.

The Irish Rover

Sigardson 8 mil
Munian 20 mil
Schurlle 13 mil
Lovren 9 mil

Skrtel leaving along with aqua cole etc will probably result in a major reduction in the wage bill and will give us a good young squad to build on and hopefully capture the league in a five or six years.

Thanks jc

regarding the 3rd kit being purple, isn't the idea of having 3 kits is if one kit clashes with the home team you change it, if that one clashes you wear your third kit doesn't make much sense having 1 kit black &1 kit dark purple their too similar. green ,white or yellow make more sense..just an observation

I find it amazing that that 3rd kit has been passed by people at the club, it's terrible. It's a shame coz I love the home and away kits. Personally I'd prefer, home kit - red (obviously lol), away kit - white top with red trim/black shorts/white socks, like it used to be, 3rd kit all yellow with red trim.

If you are gonna mess a kit up..... make it the 3rd kit!

I personally don't rate sigurdsson that highly he was an ok player with an ok team, but we are Liverpool do we have to settle for second rate players just cos were not in CL, a lot of people dream on this site, we need quality to compete which will be hard but again we are Liverpool who wouldnt want to play for us CL football or not what u think eds, great site btw.

Wardy

Everyone who wants Sigurdsson were the ones calling for Adam, Downing and Hendo last season after their reasonable performances for poor teams, and believing they we're all world beaters. For Sig will turn out similary, these small team players are not what we need!

Sigardson player of the season for reading three years ago. Player of the season for hoffenhein two years ago. Player of the season for Swansea last year. At around 8 million this is a steal for a player of his age. If you look at his goal and assist stats on player profiles they are also very impressive. He will be one of our best players for the next five years if we can get him.

Thanks jc

i find it strange that as soon as theres a story in the bbc gossip column saying spurs are interested in siggurdson all of a sudden there are dozens of people "in the know" saying that he is def off to spurs and "we've missed out" again if these people knew so much why did they not say anything before the story was in the paper? oh yeah thats right its because you don't know anything and are just jumping on the bandwagon.

Bit like when Joe Cole wouldn't leave London as he loved the city and was going to spurs 100%

Brendan Rodgers has drawn up a list of 2 attacking talents that he wishes to put bids in 4. The first target is James Rodriguez who has begun to receive a great deal of attention of late The 20 year old Colombian international made a real splash last term, netting 12 goals in 22 league games. 2, Brendan Rodgers is also scouting German international Andre Schurrle ahead of a possible summer bid for the Bayer Leverkusen forward. Liverpool will hope that negotiations to sign Schurrle would be helped by the fact that former Reds defender Sami Hyypia is the boss at Leverkusen
my Portuguese source

Still no out and out Striker then?

Seems like an awful lot of effort, going to the trouble to drawing up a list for just two names :-)

How i wish people can stop reading transfer news from caughtoffside and tribal football because all they do is LAZY JOURNALISM! Linking a club with 5 players this week, a new 5 next week and a new 5 in two weeks time. I guess by the end of the transfer window, our beloved club will have signed about 50 new players. You guys will have to agree with me on this one. Eds what do you think?

So true but the law of averages say that if you link enough players to us then sooner or later you are gonna get one right ,its pathetic really cos if i mentioned enough players i might get one right

25 Jun 2012 18:07:34
Thanks anyway ed002 about my blocked post.
I knew it was risky but thought most of the lower IQ regulars wouldn't of got it anyway.
Keep up the good work.

MIKEY {Ed002's Note - You are right Mikey, everyone would have gotten it.}

You got owned!!!

Whats going on now with aquallani ed?i still cant believe rafa brought him in lol he clearly wants to be in italy and we clearly dont want him would it not save costs to just release him? As we seem to pay most his wage on these loans. If he wont move on id sit him in reserves til end of contract as these italian teams seem to be taking the p and getting him for loan every year with no intent to keep him its a joke. Also any sign of pacheco coming bk he looked so good two years ago. Do u know how he did on loan last year?any good?

Lee {Ed002's Note - Try the search function Lee.}

25 Jun 2012 17:55:03
Dont see what all the fuss is about regarding siggardson hes decent but not that amazing i aint botherered if he goes spurs. Also id bite of anyones hand for 20 mil for skrtel he was to blame for most the goals towards end of season. Any news Macca?u r very quiet this window? Also eds do u think our main positions to fill will be rw and st? I still think we need a striker desperatly arsenal have signed two great players up front we need to play catch up. Any interest in llorente?i still think bent would be ideal or even defoe at a good price atleast wed av a plan b if carrol and suarez aint performing or out.

Lee {Ed002's Note - Try the search function Lee.}

Bent and Defoe no, someone talented younger and hungrier yes.

25 Jun 2012 17:51:18
Macca, what do you know about Sigurdsson, Skrtel, Aquilani and Cole? Thanks

In his last post he says he knows nothing about transfers.

Ed029 thinks Salomon rondon is our prioritet tagget at the moment, do you other eds agree on that? {Ed002's Note - Does it matter whether we do or not? Only one Ed is able to answer at a time.}

25 Jun 2012 17:46:49
What I'd like to know is were is all these people getting their info that sig is signing for the spuds?? BR more or less made him the player he is today he wouldn't go to the swans because BR left it's only obvious he wants to follow him to the mighty reds so stop worrying! We'll find out soon enough anyways

Red Dub

It's probably the same posters slagging us off for even going for him in the first place.

25 Jun 2012 17:41:25
is it true that Arjen Robben might be coming to liverpool {Ed002's Note - You mean as a Manchester City player?}

Yeah for a rematch with pepe

MIKEY

Robben is going to City ed? as long as im at it, do Man City still have interest in Di Maria?

Kaizer {Ed002's Note - There is a suggestion that Manchester City will approach Bayern with an offer for Robben. If Di Maria were available there would be interest from Manchester City and others.}

If he goes to city then they will be easier to beat

25 Jun 2012 17:36:27
Good evening Eds, could you possibly explain how a free transfer works, just in regards to signing on fees and such. Say we signed Kalou on a free would he expect a bigger payment than usual because we wouldn't be paying a fee to Chelsea?

Cheers

All the best

Rob {Ed002's Note - You got it.}

That might explain why maxi and cole are on such high wages. {Ed002's Note - It certainly does for Cole - a significant amount of money is his signing on fee extrapolated across the length of his contract.}

25 Jun 2012 17:35:16
Not a rumour but FACT. Sigurðsson will sign for Liverpool, he agreed to join Swansea, prior to BR being appointed LFC manager, so if Spurs etc are interested in him now, then surely they were interested in him before he agreed to join Swansea, and he was quite willing to sign on the dotted line for BR and Swansea. he will make the move to Anfield, with BR.

He's signing for Spurs

Managerless spurs who pay peanuts and who will lose their best players , yep i can see him going there with avb lol

Spurs are a well run club with better players....wait for the bite ;)

I happen to agree with you...see no bite

25 Jun 2012 17:35:15
Hi all

Am I the only Liverpool fan who thinks Stevie G needs to call an end to his England Career? The guy is 32 now he needs to consentrate on Liverpool, he's only got 3 maybe 4 years left!!

Dave

I can't see it just yet.
He still has a lot to give as we have seen.
If he was keeping back a younger midfielder with tons of promise then I imagine he might be more tempted.
But if not gerrard then who? So why not try play in the world cup.

MIKEY

That younger midfielder you talk of, is Jack Wilshire

He can play with wilshere

Erm yeah, Jack Wilshere.

I'd have wilshere parker and gerrard in the middle together

If roy stays in charge we would be playing only 2 in the middle. Can see a gerrard, wilshere combo. Gerrard as holding. I hope we get another manager as we were painful to watch. CQ

25 Jun 2012 17:22:07
Sadly thats were we are,re.Borini-aint just his ownership.Reports are he didnt fancy us

He's Italian and has just got into the Italian squad for the first time for a major tournament playing where he's playing at. That could be why he wanted to extend his stay, nothing to do with Liverpool. Who even said we wanted to buy him anyway? The papers??

Lad quoted as saying LFC didnt interest him. Some have to face facts,Were a big pull but cos no Champs Leauge we are not in higher echelon as being attractive proposition even for likes of Borini.Hurts but true

25 Jun 2012 17:16:48
I find it rather mystlifying that people would see Spurs as a better project than Liverpool? At the last look, they were in the same European competition, barely apart in the League and with regards to the managerial standings - well - hard to any advantage there either. I suppose the one and only reason would be good 'ol money again.

Yeah and they could be about to lose most of their best players aswell!

Spurs wage restrictions are tighter than ours!
Sigurdsson will sign for us....just be patient and have faith
Jim22

25 Jun 2012 17:07:47
i know its good to sign new players etc etc but do we really need many, this season we have already made our best signing we have lucas back what a difference he will make, gerrard will play better and get forward more, also we need to play henderson in his best position centre mid not wide on the wing, we wll see the best of him this season after a settling in period, we also have a rejuvenated andy carroll, we already have a back 5 as good as anyone else so wheres the problem, suggest main signing need to be a right winger possibly adam johnson, and another forward suggest sturridge, downing has to be better than last season in terms of assists and goals, so heres to the new season with minimal changes and a bit more luck

25 Jun 2012 16:58:30
been told by a friend that sig feels obligated to talk to other clubs before joining lfc he wants to team up with b r has he feels he made progress as a player last season cheers
mal.

There is no obligation, it's if that club has agreed a fee with his club

Guess your right mate, as ive been told the same thing by you.

25 Jun 2012 16:22:27

25 Jun 2012 15:58:51
I blame the FA not the players. They forced out Capello, messed 'Arry about. Then installed the acceptable face of middle-class cautious mediocrity.
'Arry might have made a difference. He would have been more aggressive in all areas.

'arry is a manager who buys lots of players until he stumbles on the right team. Unless you hadn't realised the England manager can't do that, he has to work with what he's got and what he's got is a bunch of ordinary (with the exception of 3) players.
We don't teach our kids the right way which is why we aren't good enough technically. That is the fault of the FA because they have mismanaged for decades.

Chris in Tamworth

Technically gifted players stand out in the EPL if they have the sac* to get stuck in. Otherwise it's 100 mph stuff and considered the most physical league in the world. Many technically gifted players look lost most of the time though in the EPL (Aquaman, Meireles, Diamanti, Veron to name a few) while some are standouts Silva, Augero, Cantona, Henry, RVP etc.
The problem is that at an international level England don't play 100 mph with the brawn that is their strength. They try to adapt to the slow technical pass and move

What chris said.
The England team will only decline further.
If wholesale changes are made now at how kids are coached then we are still at least 10-15 years away from a team that might compete for honours.
The FA are changing bits, like smaller pitches and team sizes for kids but it's not good enough.
They need to be taught how to pass properly, technique, pass and move, tiki taka or whatever. Long ball football is long gone.
The FA can't see how the game has changed and how we need to change to keep up with the rest of the world.
England produces some great players that play great in England.
We need to start producing players that can play modern international football.

MIKEY

It's simple we continue to play 2 big lumps lacking pace in the centre of defence " In World Football!" wtf! can never believe what I'm seeing from so called professional coaches.
None of the top sides in the World would ever play 2 big slow lumps together.
You have to have a footballer; A converted midfield player if need be in the centre alongside a centre half. Ala Beckenbaur,Mathias, Moore,Hansen
John Terry was only half decent when Cavallio the Portugese played alongside him.
kidmillions

We do have technically gifted players, we were made to look foolish by Roy's way too defensive shape. If your going to play that way you better hope your no 10 and two wingers are in exceptional form. Ares weren't and should never have been given that many games. The FA are trying to implement better structure but it will take time. They are short sighted fools though and it should of been done sooner. Our u19 and below teams are pretty decent and in next 10 years we'll be competing with the better teams more evenly. I do think if we'd have had wilshere we would have looked a lot better. CQ

Will the club still have close links with nacional of uraguay now that DC has gone {Ed002's Note - Of course. The club staff are simply transient employees.}

25 Jun 2012 15:21:55
Does it not just go to show that nobody knows a lot at all really.and that all liverpools deals will be behind closed doors/a suprise.all everyone is talking about is sigurdsson.

Jack robinson to whu on loan?

Sherlock I knew you were on the case

25 Jun 2012 15:18:17
Message for all the 'Sigurdsson is going to Spurs/we've missed out on another target' brigade: Why aren't you posting your invaluable info on the Spurs pages? They don't seem to be talking about it at all.

dd

Maybe Spurs fans are not as desperate as Liverpool fans are to sign him.

If Liverpool fans were desperate to sign him they wouldn't be posting that he isn't going to sign for us.

Do you actually read what you write before hitting post?

Wake up dd,weve missed Borini !

If Liverpool fans are not desperate to sign sigurdsson then why are you all getting yourself into a state at the mere suggestion of him going to spurs?

Were we goin for Borini? Oh the Daily Mail said we were so we must have been.

You all?that proves your not a pool fan probably from spurs go to your own page and post about how you miss arry and all your players about to scarper

At least they've got players other teams want to buy

Every media outlet virtually said about Borini,but since'Rebekka-gate' people now believe nowt Surely if ALL lies,lets have no media then {Ed002's Note - It was always going to be the case that it would be most unlikely that Borini would want to return to England so soon. Given the reason he left Chelsea, I cannot see how that could have been resolved at Liverpool.}

25 Jun 2012 14:54:22
The Sigurdsson to Spurs rumours are all paper talk. He has set his sights on Liverpool. Besides I think Spurs have the slightly bigger matter of getting a manager sorted before getting players.

25 Jun 2012 14:44:44
If Sigurdsson does not want to play for Liverpool, then I say let him go to Spurs- it's his loss

Looks like Borini ownership issue is still unresolved- blessing in disguise- this guy is definitely not good enough to play at the top level in the Premiership.

I would much rather have a prospect like Morata from Real's B team than someon who has already had a go in England and failed and who can't get more than a handful of goals in Italy.

Last year showed we need a clinical finisher who will net 20 goals a season not someone who bags in with 10 goals per year

What on earth makes you think Morata is any better than Borini? Borini is more experienced at higher levels, and hes worked with Rodgers before surely that says it all.

When did Borini fail in the premiership? The guy never got a chance at chelski.
Indian Buzzer

Dont worry some person keeps saying media all wrong and hes right-cos hes got inside track-we wernt interested in borini-everybodys wrong.clears that up then

25 Jun 2012 14:35:40
So what you are saying is we should all bury our heads in the sand and go on thinking everything is hunky-dory...
If we see a problem I think we should point it out otherwise how will it get fixed? We have got to understand we have fallen down the pecking order and yes we did used to be a great team an we still can be with the right guidance...

Cheers Eddie's

have u guys seen some top 10 goals of 11/12 for liverpool? its different for different person, ive seen 3 in youtube.

all of them had Shelvey's goal against chelsea, would u guys put in your top 10 as well? for me the goal was empty, all he had to do was hit the target, not easy, yes i understand, but not a top 10.

i prefer team play goals.
-like Bellamy's goal vs City, pass n move at its best.
-Maxi's goal vs chelsea.
-Suarez goal vs Stoke, (the 1-2 with Maxi not the nutmeg).
-Downing vs Stoke (i think not sure if it was Stoke or not, the accidental-backheel from gerrard).

some incredible finishes
-Coates vs QPR.
-Gerrard 1st goal vs Everton (the chip/placing).
-Suarez vs Norwich (halfway line goal)

some individual brilliance
-Suarez vs Stoke (the nutmeg)
-Glenn Johnson vs Chelsea

and many more i guess, i cant make my own top 10, dont remember it all, but even if i did i might need to make a top 20 list lol. sry if i for to mention any other brilliant goals.

also, look at Suarez's goal vs wolves and compare it with Carroll's goal vs Chelsea FA Cup finals. quite similar really, another look at Carroll's goal and i have to say that was a brilliant goal.

just a change of topic here, whats ur top 10 goals of the season for Liverpool?

Kaizer

Not sure what my top 10 would be but number 1 is Coates vs QPR. A quite fantastic finish.

Tristan

Just so u know, u can search for

suarez goal vs wolves

carroll goal vs chelsea fa cup final

to see both of the goals to compare for urself

Kaizer

Tristan

fantastic finish for some1 that big isnt it? i have to admit i was very surprised he even tried that. i have to say that for a big guy, he is very mobile, Coates

Kaizer

I can't quite remember the last time MS scissor kicked us a laser goal. Sell his and let coates soar.

It still makes me laugh watching it now! I don't understand how such a big bloke can do that!

If that is a sign of things to come from young Seb, then lets get him into the first team now!

Tristan

Bookies have stopped taking bets on sigurdsson signing for spurs. He looks nailed on now to sign for them. Levy and his agent apparently had a meeting on friday and sig himself will meet levy tomorow. Ah well, we miss out again

Spurs 4/6, us 11/10 - seems like their hedging their bets

The bookies stopping betting means jack all

LFCgreg

They also stopped taking bets for martinez to be our manager and before that AVB... those didn't pan out ay

25 Jun 2012 14:09:05
If people don't listen to the eds then why come on this site and ask questions. Sig has said he wants to join us br said he wants him and betting odds mean absolutely naff all. If I were fsg I wouldn't spend a penny on Liverpool. I would give all the eds a million £ each for putting up with all the idiotic questions and abuse from the rediculouse amount of dim fans we seem to have at this club. Well done eds. I have massive amounts of respect for all of you and thank you so much for taking the time out of your lives to run this site for us. I am truly greatful and I read it every day. Thanks again.

The Real KB {Ed002's Note - Sharp eyed readers may spot it being dated 15 months ago.}

Yeah I know ed, but they're apparently in secret negotiations with Everton who want to rent it out and turn Goodison into a paint ball adventure park for stag do's.
The Real KB

They may also notice that the picture is of Anfield as it is now

I really like the paintball idea but not at the cost of sharing...

Real KB, I too heard that Goodison will be turned into an adventure park, not only for paintball, but for other activities as well: 100% nailed on. My sisters, friends Uncle works as a groundsman there and knows all about it. He also said that Liverpool are looking to sign goalscoring sensation Apostolos Vellios for circa £14.35 million.

I've heard that Everton are turning the Goodison Park pitch into a potato field, ...so they'll at least have something to lift every season...

Last night Spurs we're 1/6 on to sign Sigurdsson. Most bookies have now stopped betting. Well done Rodgers, We've just lost out on another player. Sort it out or get out, Jim.

Wow jim calling for a managers head before even a ball has been kicked, you'll never walk alone mean anything to you.....

When are people going to learn about bookies and newspapers , stop being so negative , as for having a go at Rodgers , he dont control players minds . Grow up and stop believing all you read .

Do you remember when AVB was odds on to become our manager. Means nothing more than we have competition for the player, which is only to be expected if he's any good.
Victor

I remember when we used to be a big club and all players wanted to join us - not now. Sign for Brendan who?

Actually, Brendan can stay. It's you Jim that will have to dissasociate yourself from our club...byeeeeee!

Just like Martinez was 1/8 on I think to be next Liverpool manager! Grow up child

How did England become so defensive? Even against the ITALIANS! We all know the Azzuris are the king of defensive football but last night, they tiki-taka their way all through the game because England were over defensive. On a second thought, I think the world is changing to the tiki-taka style of play(saw france do the same against england). Well, I thank God we have BR now cos I rada play like Barca than Ch**se*.

I posted earlier this morning and my text was ignored. Are the Eds on this site all Liverpool fans. Liverpool remain the most successful club this country has ever produced and we need to remember that John W Henry is a very shrewd person who will bring the glory years back! {Ed002's Note - It was published.}

We are the most successful club in the country but now we are lagging behind big time, the table never lies.

The sooner you realise that John Henry is not motivated by bringing back the glory days but only in enhancing income streams and reducing costs, the clearer the picture will become for you.

Ozone

Sort of contradict yourself there Ozone?
Piddy

@ozone, glory in football today can only continually be achieved with revenue and finances combined with a strategy/model within the club. real madrid, man utd, man city, chelsea. either high revenue or wealthy investors investing just reiterates this. time to be realistic, accept the game and football is evolving everyday and john w henry is trying to bring us to a level where we can compete with a sustainable model.
is it that hard to understand that we are slowly trying to develop a revenue model like man utd and a football system like barcelona. is a combination of the two that hard for you to envisage?
the club is still losing money for fun(at least since fsg's arrival anyway), hence the reduction of costs situation that we are witnessing.
rome wasn't built in a day and lfc will not be rebuilt in 18months.

Henry will not build Rome or Re-build LFC in 18 months, its not his plan

Krasic and Sig would be good solid signings if they come through. We missed Lucas so much last season that a DM will need to be sorted to compete for that position as Spearing was simply not good enough. Wanyama would be ideal and cost effective and meets FSG's player profile. I would expect him to grow into a world beater at Liverpool. Krasic and Sig would make us alot more attacking and that leaves alot of money left over for striker why not Rondon? We got Suarez with no CL football so please lets remember that there are players out there who would like to play in our red shirt and would pick us over other big clubs. And we dont want any that want to leave after a season so lets trust BR and FSG and look forward to seeing what the transfer window brings. No point going on bout missed signings at this stage. I think we may have a very exciting line up to start the new campaign and I cannot wait to see Andy Carrol starting the way he finished last season. If joey wood work gives us a break our squad will only need tweeking.

25 Jun 2012 12:48:50
Why on earth would sig sign for a team like spurs with no manager and who could possibly loose some of their best players due to this. Come on get a grip lads stop being so negative we will sign sig for certain and one or two others that will make us stronger. Geordie red

25 Jun 2012 12:48:06
Before the euro's started, it was said "Why are most of the team from Liverpool". The reason is, they actually performed better than any other players on the pitch. Gerrard was immense in the group stages, Johnson was solid (not all the time) and when carroll played he was sometimes unplayable. Well done boys, pity the rest of the team didn't play for you. Good to see Rooney, Young and the other manc s**te do so bad.

How pathetic are you that you'd rather see the united players play bad and england lose than the whole england team play good and we in the thing.

Terry and Gerrard were the only 2 that performed. Parker done good, not great. the rest were awful.

Who nearly scored and blocked, tackled and defended his heart out. Oh that's right it was Johnson. He was just stating facts about the manc players. They were all awful and Carroll has been amazing can't wait to see him for us next season.

Eric the red

Cant agree that the rest were awful.. Terry was immense yesterday, Johnson has been solid pretty much the whole tourney.. Hart flapped a bit against Sweden but was pretty good otherwise, Lescott stepped up, Cole was his usual solid self but was unlucky enuff to have Young in front of him who didnt have a clue.. Wellbeck looks promising, walcott showed flashes of what he can do, Milner was steady but never a winger.. Carroll was a breath of fresh air and Rooney just isnt any good at Tourneys! Gerrard was player of the tourney for England and Parker, altho ready to throw is face in front of anything, just cannot pass a ball forward. Hendo didnt look out of place when he came on either.. And the Ox did well in the limited time he had to show up.. Shame for the team that RH insisted on going with Young and Milner.
ItsNotRocketScience

Johnson is crap he needs Milner around to hold his hand because he can't do his own job properly. The sooner Kyle Walker replaces him the better.

Yep looney and young were terrible but it's only a small measure of satisfaction to say so. Shame some of others couldn't cut it but it just exposes limitations of the manager. Why was young left on when he was clearly useless. Downing would have been head and shoulders better and at least knows how to pass the ball and track back. Looney tried but was clearly out of it. A good manager would have replaced him with Defoe at half time. Never know, we might have even looked like scoring.
The Red contingent played as well as anyone, Stevie and Jonno were outstanding. We aquitted ourselves well and can be proud. More than mancs can say.

Eds all this about Sigurdsson and spurs trying to sign him is there any truth to it?. I been onto the site and i can't see any mention of him on there. Is that just becuase they are unaware of it or becuase its not happening?.

Forget about losing downing or adam please every player needs 2 seasons to know the club look at gomez at bayern the first season he only scored 13 goals in almost 40 matches he was bought for 30-35 million euros they decided not to sell him. next season he scored 28 only in the bundesliga he became topscorer just because bayern decided to keep him for another year.

other examples:
-Emmanuelson at Milan
-Benzema at Real
-Mascherano at Barca
-Lucas Leiva at LIVERPOOL
-I'm sure insua could have been our A LB if Roy hodgson didn't decide to sell him
-Andy Carroll is getting there

i'm just saying that we should give them another season

I agree with you mate but Insua, no chance, he's Sunday league.

Ozone

Benzema, lucas and mascherano were all still young and had world class potential. downing and adam cannot be compared to players like that. downing isn't suddenly going to become a balon d'or candidate

Tbf, I think Purslow tried to force out Insua, not Roy. We had a £5m bid from Fiorentina all but accepted before Roy arrived.

And as for him being "Sunday League" he only got stick when he had to play every week without a break in 09/10. The season before, he made a dozen appearances, was class in all of them, and people oozed about him. This is why when people say we should be playing youth players, I remind them that they have to be eased in. Had we not had to play Insua every game and worn him out, he'd have had more time to develop, and his reputation at the club wouldn't have been tarnished and he'd probably still be here.

Insua was more into his half time meat pies and bovril than he was playing football

Cuchulainn's Hounds

All I can say is he was replaced by Konchesky... I for one would have preferred Insua

The exact same thing that happened to isnua happened to Jose enrique this year, a developed player, we just burnt them out in both situations because we didnt have a right back up(aurelio hasnt been a back up for a while yet) or the sensible back up of robinson being blend in was not chosen or not ready yet...

If the yougsters arnt ready this year a cheap alternative full back that could play both sides equally would be very welcome, and give us a chance to use kelly more for the cb position that he is more suited to.

Let's get 1 thing straight. Sigurdsson did'nt choose Liverpool over Swansea because he wanted to work with Brendan Rodgers again.

He chose Liverpool because its a bigger team than Swansea. Now he has decided to choose Spurs over us because they are the team on the up, We have more history, But they are fighting for 4th spot the last few seasons. Cant really blame Gylfi, He just wants whats best for his career.

We lost out on yet another target now. Kalou to Schalke, Powell to United, Diame to West Ham, De Jong to Newcastle? Bendtner to Malaga? M Suarez to Arsenal?

Why does nobody want to play for us anymore?

I think Rodgers could be too small time for such a big club.

Ed's, Would it be actually possible to get rid of Rogers now and get Redknapp in? Would it be okay with FA rules?

Jay ynwa {Ed002's Note - Sure but it might be rather expensive.}

Oh my god, are you serious?

My word, you are close to being the most boring person ever.

Get rid of a manager before he's even met the team?

You, my friend, are a joke. It's idiots like you that make this site unbearable at times (no offence to 99% of the others that write in with worthwhile comments)

How much would it cost to get rid of a "fan" like you?

Tristan

Bendtner...?

Kaizer

So, you would like us to get rid of Rodgers before a ball has been kicked Jay? Then replace the man (who Spurs had been interested in) with the man who has just been sacked by Spurs? Top logic..

JF

Please get your facts straight! Only the media made the players you have mentioned as targets. We did not lose out on any of them as we have never had interest in them.

James Mc

You obviously believe everything that you read in the paper Jay?! Has no-one ever told you that not all their stories are true, I mean Bendtner.............really?!?

Why all this hype about Sig? If he wants to join us, he will, but if he wants Spurs thats his choice, and that cannot be blamed on BR, a man who has contributed in a big way in shaping him and obviously has great confidence in him. Something tells me that BR and LFC are working on certain targets, and are keeping their cards close to their chests, and that is how it should be.

I also do not see how we can lose out on someone who is just a potential target, among numerous others, in such a vast and open market of players. BR &FSG are obviously sticking to an agreed formula that is best for LFC. I am just thinking that, perhaps recent overpriced deals (of Downing, Carroll etc) may have sent a wrong signal to prospective targets, and may be certain teams could be seeking to capitalise on such previous mistakes. If a player is quoted, out of our valuation, we may as well have to look elsewhere. Sometimes, its to do with striking the right balance, right combo/formations/tactics than having the so called marquee signings. I for one do not care for players who do not want to wear the red shirt with pride, assuming we are offering them the right deals.

I'm for the get rid of Rogers and FSG too

Neither will bring us anything except more time in the wilderness of EPL hell.

Siggurddsson has definitely signed for spurs on the quiet. He had a medical on Friday. My info comes directly from them.

Sad to see bargain slip through our fingers, watch us chuck 20 million down the drain on some rubbish young english player now. {Ed002's Note - He cannot have signed already. He can agree to a move, but that is all.}

25 Jun 2012 12:12:27
To all those speculating about funds (banter).
We do not have a set limit on the transfer budget. The owners have installed a body that will regulate all expenditure, not just transfers, in order to maximize efficiency in spending. This is why it will be more "difficult" this year to acquire players with high wage demands. They will have to be justified and backed by serious research, projections and sell on potential. However, there will be approvals for the right signings. There is also pressure to penetrate emerging markets (in football it's Asia mostly, and potentially the U.S.) in order to generate more income. Expect the club policy and perhaps the team to reflect that at some point in the near future.
-=Solar=-

Well if that is true then its the death knell for LFC as we know it.

Obviously FSG are not of the Body!

25 Jun 2012 12:06:39
If spurs get siggi that will annoy me so much the kid is pure quality. I recon we will get him though we're still a big club and BR will give us a big advantage hopefully

Every day now people come on here and moan about this and that purely because they've read the papers or been on some website. Here's an idea for you what if the papers are just making stuff up? I know right the shock.
Now maybe Sigurdsson will sign for Spurs but we could hardly accuse them of hijacking the deal as that exactly what we did to Swansea.

I'd imagine Liverpool are going to be busy during this transfer window so instead of moaning about who Chelsea, Arsenal or United are signing lets support the club and any new players, just for a change.

why r some of u worrying about sigurdson, he'll be wearing the liverpool kit before u know it...stop crying about his link with tottenham, they have NO manager

25 Jun 2012 11:40:55
After last night I am seriously worried- Gerrard is clearly knackered and I hope he gets at enough time off to recover so that he does not do his hamstring early into the new season.
On a more positive note, at least Downing and Henderson should be fresh for the start of the new season- no excuses

WOW - Downing and Henderson are going to be fresh for the new season - cant wait.

25 Jun 2012 11:35:15
I'm still not sure about Carroll. If that's the best England have for the future god help us.

Agree about Carroll but as you say we dont have anyone else.

Sorry to say but Carroll is useless. 35m quid, what a laugh.

25 Jun 2012 11:33:25
Didn't Stevie G look knackered after half an hour last night. Hope he's gonna be ok for the following season cos we cannot rely on Hendo cos when he came on he was way out of his depth.

Gerrard did look knackered but he was still better than Milner, Young, Rooney and Wellbeck.

Hodgsons style crucifies midfielders

25 Jun 2012 11:31:31
if i were liverpool manager i do this-
in-
Milos Krasic-7m
Cristian Tello-7m
Adam Johnson-15m
Simon Kjaer-7m
Gylfi Sigurdsson-8m
Scott Dann-4m
José Salomón Rondón-15m
Stevan Jovetic-20m
Emiliano Insúa-5m
total-88m
out
Martin Skrtel -25m
Maxi Rodríguez-2m
Dirk Kuyt-1m
Andy Carroll-20m
Joe Cole-5m
Jay Spearing-loan
Jonjo Shelvey-loan
Craig Bellamy-2m
total-55m
net spend-33m

So basically, you'd just sign all the players the media make up with the 80 mil you're gonna magic up from somewhere? Too much FIFA for you, pal.

Insua?? Really?

Munian 20mil
de jong 12mil
sigardson 8mil
reduce the wage bill by selling aqua cole maxi kuyt and try and replace skrtel with javi martinez which will be difficult or wanyama as he or lucus could play cb if kelly coates etc are out in an emergency. To be fair i could even play cb if i was alongside agger, same with lucus in midfield anyone would look good beside him thanks jc

Thats why you're not liverpool manager.

Lil red

25 Jun 2012 11:25:41
Ed do you think we may see lfc buy a striker who has not really been linked as most of the rumoured ones eg soldado, luuk de jong either are not moving or going elsewhere? {Ed002's Note - Possibly, the window has yet to open and the squad have yet to be assessed.}

25 Jun 2012 11:24:10
FIFA Generation
Every time I come on here it's he's crap, should have bought him..
Well
Johnson was outstanding for England, his covering, positioning, and overall play
Carroll held the ball up better than welbeck, Rooney and Young and was a threat, the other 3 weren't.
Henderson was steady and didn't let
anyone down.
Downing didn't have a chance so how can you possibly comment, still rather have him than Young.
Gerrard player of Tournment with Cole, but legs went cos the manc front line couldn't hold the ball up.
As for targets, BR will assess the squad and then make decisions, if we really really want someone then we'll go after them.
If you have knowledge of football you would know we need a little tinkering, we dominated matches against all the top 4 but didn't put the ball in the net.
Hopefully all have settled and with the 2-3 additions we start converting instead of hitting woodwork.., those that don't understand it, get back on your Playstations and X box, nerds who can't even kick a ball, let alone understand what they are watching..

Cheers {Ed002's Note - He should be fine.}

But don't expect him to pick up where he left off. I know people will turn on him as soon as he has a few dodgy matches, but please be reasonable. An injury like that can be VERY damaging to an athlete of any making. I've seen players take anywhere from 3-4 months to over a year to regain full confidence in their injured leg. I've no doubt he'll come good again, but like all good things, it'll take time.

25 Jun 2012 10:46:38
Same old story every year. The teams around us push on with top signings whilst we have no confirmed interest in any players at all. As usual we play our cards close to our chest and miss out. I have been a Liverpool fan for 20 years and I am tired of the "play for the club not the money" policy every owner hides behind to avoid forking out on players. Lets get real here players go to the highest bidder regardless of european football and every top premier league side has got this figuered out !

We have unconfirmed links with one good player in Sigurdson and yet if FSG had real intentions to push through a deal it would be sorted by now regardless of the transfer window not being open. Look at Kagawa, Marin, Podolski ! All tied up to avoid missing out on targets.

But no instead we get stuck with second rate players like Adam and Henderson who arent even fit to lace up Gerrards boots nevermind play along side him ! And as far as everyone excusing FSG's tight fistedness because of their layout for transfers last year, well heres the truth, thats football and any top club WILL have to spend that to be competitive, look at Chelsea and City. And in comparison look at United and Arsenal, they dont spend enough and they won nothing last season.

Its sad but thats what footballs come to now and theres no hiding from it. Ill never stop supporting my club but i can only pray that things change very soon otherwise we'll be a side that see's finishing in the top half of the table a successful season.

Come on FSG pull your finger out !

Keep up the good work Eds love the site

ForeverRed

If you expect that our owners will be foking out hundreds of millions on players then you're going to be very disappointed. Like it or not, they're the custodians and it's not the way they do things.

AD

Easy forever red ,I would not stress at min plenty ov time to go yet plus BR got to look at players and are own, let the rich clubs all fight over the same 10/12 super star name s all they do is bump there ££ up and up (that romdon guy we been liked with heard they sign him for 2.8 million in not that long ago now they say 20 million same as Ricky van wolswinkl ? 5.8 ? Now season later 15/20 million ) wot mean is they go chase the same names every one looking at we just try get a few hidden gems it can easy be done as long as the club gets run right get rid ov this we sell mr x to so so in Spain or England but if Liverpool want him put extra 5/10/15 million on him coz it us yes that's the truth to some clubs in euro we cum bit ov joke to deal with it's sad to say so in sum ways I'm glad the club put foot down tell em to get lost we made mistakes in transfers in summer money wise only idiots make the same mistakes twice sorry for reply but have faith next year or 2 we can start to judge keep the faith my m8 we are Liverpool Fc we can ride any storm we are cumin to bright sky s YNWA lfc linc

No wonder we are out of the Euros. Stevie was knackered, Johnson and Henderson are very poor and Downing should never had been in the squad.

Johnson was1 of england's best players last night how can you call him poor ?

Which Johnson were you watching! he had a great tournament ...

Dav001

Quite agree, Johnson and Hendo were very poor and Carroll (God bless) is just not international class.

Johnson was one of the best players for England - along with Hart. England's problem is it lacks intelligent players, has poor personal skills and continually reverts out of desperation to a sterile & simplistic 4-4-2/4-4-1-1. England lacks genuinely 'world class' players. When was the last time you saw an England midfielder run a gamne like Pirlo did.

Another Man U fan on a wind up. Failing to mention the worst players on the pitch were all from his club.

Johnson was imo one of the best if not the best England player at the tournament. How do you judge a good performance???

Young as the worst performer in the squad... we played 4 games with 10 men. Rooney didn't look match fit. Carroll got zero service but won every header... if only Rooney could run.

I know it's been mentioned once or twice but how bad is the fitness levels of the English players.
Gerrard looked arguably the fittest when he should of been the opposite after all his injury concerns this year.
I don't agree about having a Xmas break or less games, many other players in the tournament have played many more games this year.
Is our playing style in England destroying fitness levels as well technical ability?

MIKEY

Wasn't so much a lack of fitness as it was a lack of determination. That's why Stevie stood out, he actually cares!

a few notes about england's euro campaign

gerrard - still world class and a living legend. If we could mold him into a pirlo type player, i.e, sit infront of the back 4 and just pull of wander pass after wander pass with out having to run miles every game like he does at the minute, we could maybe get another 3-4 years out of him.

jonson - i never thought liverpool would sell him, he is class, if the owners were wandering why his wages are so high, i think he has justified it. If for some crazy reason we do decide to sell him, i think he will have added another 10 mill to his value.

carrol - still undecided on him to be honest, he does have tallent, but not 35 millions worth! i just cant see how he will fit in with BR style of play.

Downing - i think we all feel the same about this lad!
mellor

You missed out Henderson - he is useless.

Johnson - class? You are having a laugh.

Alright, Chelsea fan here! Just want to say that I feel for some of the Liverpool lads that played for England yesterday such as Gerrard and Carroll along with Terry and Parker! They were let down massively by players such as Rooney and Young who were both shockingly lazy!

SAIM

Agreed but England are never as good as any of the teams in the last 4.
We didn't under or over achieve.

MIKEY

What I'd like to say is that when you look at our team and then compare it to Italys, who may I point out were missing Chiellini. We have world class players such as Gerrard, Rooney and Terry. Those are arguably all in the top 5 players in the world at what they do along with in my opinion the second best GK in the world in Hart. So with all of that along with the best left back and one of the best right backs in the world and other quality players in Parker and Lescott we should really be performing. If some of the players such as Rooney, Young and Welbeck showed as much passion and gave as much effort as Terry, Gerrard, Parker and Carroll showed then we really would be challenging for the tournaments!

SAIM

Sorry to say that the classification of what is World Class amongst the England team is somewhat 'blinkered'.

I've never heard of Barzaglia of Italy and yet he looked every bit as good as John Terry. I think you'd find that if you studied across Europe properly then very few England players are really of World Class quality.
For example would any of the England team get in the German Team? or the Spain Team?

To name one... Ashley Cole is world class and is better than the likes of Alba, Contreao. I don't like the guy personally but he's a tremendous fullback. People (fans) get blinkered when it's not our own player, or a player at a club we might hate... Anyway the term is entirely subjective....and pointless IMO

also with the liverpool players being players of the tourament gerrard best player for us overall
johnson best defender overall. and even though he never had much game time really carrol was out best striker overall.

Rooney should never play for England again! Totally over rated did nothing other than lose posession last night. He looked shattered after 10 minutes. He's done nothing in a major tournament for 8 years. It's time fir the so called experts to stop hailing him as our saviour. Him, wellbeck and young were shocking. Why was woy so scared to change things? Same old story once again fir England!

Agree on Rooney and Young, but at least the young lad Welbeck tries

Welbecks good for his age young is bad and rooneys to over rated the media always think that Rooney will carry us but gerrards carried England for years and yet the press lick Rooney !

Just got a sneaky feeling that Sigurðsson will do a marveaux.
Can see us being the faves to sign him and spurs offering him more money etc, so he decides to join the other club.
Just a feeling so hope it doesn't happen, but I wouldn't be surprised.
Bean

He will move to the club that he feels he will personally make the most progress with.

Didn't marveaux end up at newcastle because he failed a medical (whatever he says), a decision backed up by the fact he only played 7 league games for Newcastle before needing suffering a recurring groin strange and then needing hip surgery in November! {Ed002's Note - No. He decided not to accept Liverpool's offer.}

I may be wrong, but i would imagine we would have greater financial capacity to pay higher wages than spurs.. From all accounts he's a smart lad and will choose where he believes he will develop the most as a player, which look to be under BR. As a youth he chose to move from a bigger team to a smaller one because their pitch was in poor condition and he believed it would interfere with his development.

Wayne Rooney should never have been in the England squad, he wasn't ready. Ashley Young well what can I say, absolutely terrible player an embarrassment yo England if that's the best we can come up with to represent us. No style either the long ball all the time! Why can't we play the ball from the back instead of kicking it right up the pitch for the other team to play it back. England are s**te and I can't ever see us improving.

Totally agree Rooney and Young were terrible and should never have started given rooney'x shocking display against Ukraine and youngs shocking performances all tournament. Woy should of stuck with Carroll and Wellbeck which worked well in the Sweden game. England will never do anything in a minor tournament. We haven't got enough quity players in the top flight, the only thing to change this is s maximum foreigners rule which will never be introduced.

Nothing to do with number of foreigners in EPL, that would be the FA`s excuse !

The issue lies in the age old tradition of our coaching and football school`s still being stuck in the 70`s & 80`s.

The sooner we have a shake up at the FA, and get some forward thinking men in there, the better.
Shambles, and as you say shows no sign of getting any better.
IMO, expect couple of International Retirement announcements, then look at the team and have a good think who would replace them. ??
Kids run rould poles, jump in and out of tyres, pass a ball back and forward to one another. And they are expected to develop!? How can people not see where the issue is for our national team.

Any co-incedence the last time we so nearly won anything, was when Sir Bobby was in charge (RIP).
England will always be a team based on hope and never belief.
Piddy.

We've got quality players we just need to play quality football last night for abit we dominated created loads of chances and then we sat back and let them dominate they were shocking at the back and it's a shame we didn't attack more!

Poor Stevie G.

I can imagine RH before the match. "well, it seems Italy will be playing with what is, effectively four central midfielders plus Cassano. I know! we'll send out two, with two wingers. But here's the twist, we'll completely ignore the fact we have wingers and try to play a narrow game". High fives J. Terry and heads on up the tunnel.

30mins in. "well, this is going poorly, Italy are really dominating the middle of the park here, seems they play quite narrowly, and do it well, maybe i should've known that huh... Oh well. If Milner and Young can keep hugging the sideline and we keep trying to attack up the middle, where we're losing the ball and poor Stevie and Scotty are running themselves to an early grave, we should be fine."

60min. "Nothing's changed... but now Stevie and Scotty are really out on their feet... I know! another wide player, and not only that! Andy Carroll too! then we can continue to ignore the wide men, so effectively negating the prescence of A. Carroll. Brilliant!"

Shootout. "Here we are, A. Cole will be taking a penalty. In the bag!".

The rest is history...

How England managed to keep that match going into extra time will be a mystery for the ages.

I think before we criticise FSG for not splashing the cash on every 'over priced' player available, think carefully where LFC were before they acquired the club, we were 'that close' to ending up like Glasgow Rangers, yes that close!.
So next time you bash out a message in anger and frustration, think where we are now and conversely where we could have been!.

Watching England tonight was just like old times. Some people are blaming Roy, which is stupid really as proven it does not matter who is in charge it would seem, the players just cannot help playing defensively (albeit well). I think Englands problem and to some extent with club football also is that we do close down teams. I watched everyteam hunt englands players down and forced us to make mistakes and give away possession and they did not siffer from this at all. Italy was a prime example and lets be honest, if we had have gone through tonight, we would have been well beaten by Germany. I wish we could harry teams more!

The bbc and pundits are generally saying what a different team we were etc and how its a breath of fresh air, but to me England look so desperate not to lose that they never try winning hard enough.

I do think the press in this country are somewhat reponsible for building and knocking our athletes too much. In honesty i do not think we are a good international side and have not been since Gazza and co under Robson. England should stop thinking we are world class. We do have a world class league and some of the best club footy around, just not nationally.

The fact that so many average premiership players seem to shine for their countries yet our best can't seem to deliver any creative thinking is sad. An ageing mellberg is a classic example (but always did rate him).

Anyway this is not a moan and i am philosophical about our team and not trying to run them down at all.

gareth

Absolutely right. We gave everyone far too much space last night. Especially Pirlo. They had tome to knock it around and their movement off the ball was better then ours. Then, when we got the ball, we were pressed by two or sometimes three of them and lost it quickly...

I still blame Roy. Although he unified the player group, he is very stubborn tactically. Dare i say it, but does anyone else believe an England team under Rafa could go far, they would be defensively sound and tactically able to compete in midfield against the stronger nations and provide a strong attack when needed. I for one would of loved to see a Rafa inspired performance by England against a top team, similar to the 4 - 0 romp of Real Madrid. Doubt it would ever happen, but the idea is interesting.

25 Jun 2012 00:33:50
cheeky penalty by Pirlo....... cant wait for the silly suggestion to the Eds that we should sign him this summer

I just see him land at JL Airport.... must be to sign for us or Everton then back to Krakow for the small matter of playing Germany

25 Jun 2012 00:22:22
Hi eds love the site and appreciate your hard work. To me its clear for the past few years we have been short of skilfull, pacy wingers. Please tell me that this obvious lack of supply is to be addressed ghis transfer window?

Because we see Downing as the answer to that problem..

25 Jun 2012 00:17:29
From an objective standpoint as I don't support England or anyone they've played, I have to say just from what I've seen, I don't think it's a long shot to say our boys Andy, Gerrard and Glen were perhaps among the most promising and consistent performers for their country this tournament. Can only bode well for the next season.. Keep your heads high English LFC supporters

well ed do you think lfc could get a city player plus cash for martin skrtel (who do you think we could get ?) and ed do you support liverpool ?and what are the chance of tello thanks ed pls post

clarkey boy 12 {Ed002's Note - Some eds support Liverpool, some don't. I am sure Manchester City would want to off load a player in any deal for Skrtel but normally clubs would prefer to equivalent in cash so they can choose who they want.}

Not a rumour, just a thought. Isn't it funny how people's footballing perceptions change. 2 months ago if Andy Carroll had pulled on an England Shirt their would have been uproar. Tonight people were begging for him to get on the pitch. Rooney and Young were regarded as England elites and were woeful!

Its called form.

I have to say this.
I am a Liverpool fan from outside the UK, I read through the posts on a daily basis, but do find that some supporters are the most negative and cynical types I have ever encountered.
Is this 'negativity' particular to certain parts of England, is it due to a lack of vitamin d (sunshine), what the hell is it.
Some of these supporters would not even be welcome at a funeral, for fear of upsetting the mourners.
Come on, surely there are a 'few' happy people in the NW of England.

Yeh it's amazing isn't it,. But get ready for the "only local supporters can be real supporters" type of replies, something to that effect anyway, there are still a few of them about...

25 Jun 2012 01:03:27
Well that's England out now and if ever there was a need for a manager to encourage his players to keep the ball and not be afraid of it then it's now. Enter mr Brendan Rogers as new Liverpool boss to teach the players how to play possession football like the Italians and Spanish because England didn't get a kick tonight. With all the Liverpool players in the England squad he can only be good for England too. Time for Liverpool to lead the way by example and win the premiership and champions league by playing the Barcelona way and let the other teams do the running. All English players were dead on their feet by 60 mins from chasing shadows. If it was Germany or Spain playing against England tonight the score would of been embarrassing.

My call of Italy to win the euro with Pirlo being player of the tournament is not looking so ridiculous now.

14/1, come on!

It would have been a travesty of justice if England would have won that game. They were outclassed from start to finish. It was torture to watch. At least all those fans who thought LFC fans never gave Hodgson a chance can now see the reason why. I would say 90% of fans would do a better job than Roy he is clueless. At no stage did he even attempt to change the formation. This tournament was a perfect opportunity for England to blood some youngsters, but we got the same old same old. It was the usual suspects that have failed miserably tournament after tournament. England were never going to win the thing, so it would of been nice for some young players to get out there and show what they could do win, lose or draw. When will the quango that is the FA ever going to learn. English fans wanted an English manager and who do we get? To be honest I lost interest after the first match I've seen better football in the Conference. It doesn't help that I work for a company that provides security for an Italian oil company out here in Iraq. I had to sit through a room full of Italians laughing and joking at our expense. Anyway rant over I give up on England that was the last straw.

Both ashly miss penalty. I don't understand why England play such defansive football. Long pass football is better then this. 2 very good wing, 2 good player on air in English team . The best team win the match.

I think Roy Hodgson and England have to realise that such negative tactics do not work in the knockout stages in a tournament as there as no such thing as a draw. A winner will be decided at the end of the day. The less said about England and penalty shootout the better. I think there are not enough big game players who will rise to the occasion to take spot kick within the squad. Good job Stevie though, you were the reason why England even made it through at all.

Irish poster here, must start with RIP to a former red.
For any lads supporting England, you done ok, probably overachieved, don't bother starting with any replies about Ireland, we consider qualifying a joyous success !
More importantly, I feel LFC 'england' was a success, at long last the English media are forced to recognise the true quality of Stevie, big Andy comes away with some credit, Glen J was good, even great tonight, some major tournament game time experience for Jordan and Martin K will have benefited from the experience too, one for the future. My one concern is someone who I really want to see come good but if Stew couldn't get into contention ahead of the extremely woeful A young then I do worry for him. The only plus side is that Mr Downing didn't put a foot wrong, I'm sure Ashley (either of them) would settle for that tonight.
Bring on the new season and a few quality new faces.
Red Derry.

Never saw the match myself Red Derry mate), but with regards to Downing, it'll be an interesting season ahead for him. He'll have quite a number of people watching him, I think more so than any other of Dalglish's signings. He'll need to hit the ground running and bag a goal or two at the beginning of the season for his confidence.

Surely he couldn't go another season with no assists, no goals?

Just a quick question do you think Liverpool will be a better or worse team come September. I'm not sure but I think sigardson would be an excellent signing but no to krasic borini etc. lfc need to keep Suarez as well as we haven't seen his best yet due to suspension and bad luck. He could score 40+ goals if he starts to convert about a third of his chances which to be fair he usually creates himself. Thanks just looking for people's opinion.

Tonight's game clearly showed that Steven is the heart of England. A night when he was not on his top form, the team played below par. Anyways, the better side won. Kudos to the Azzuris. Now lets concentrate more on Liverpool!

24 Jun 2012 22:58:51
After that shambles of an England performance tonight I think the time is fast approaching for an international team selected from the Reserve Teams, Championship and lower divisions where possible talant is being overlooked in favour of the "Big Names" Italy made us look like a Sunday League team out there tonight. Embarrassing... :-(

Stevie.

Selfish, overpaid, hot-housed, clueless players. With the exception of James Milner and Stevie Gerrard, absolutely none of those players give a s**t about anybody else, they were there for themselves and nobody else. Something has to change and these people need to realise that although the EPL is the pinnacle of success, it doesn't mean they're anywhere near good enough to be mentioned in the same breath as Pirlo, Cassano, De Rossi, Ronaldo, Messi and the entire Spanish euro squad.
These players are in their comfort zone. Massive wages, massive publicity and fame, constant attention and admiration, but no respect or heart, no passion and above all, no desire to help one another out.
I am so proud of Stevie G for rising above all this and leading by example all tournament. He should be remembered as the only honest, hardworking and genuine performers of this squad. He deserves better, and i'm not saying this through red eyes.

Only problem Red7 mate is that milner has no talent.
