This website is a fantastic website and the best and most accurate out there!

People are peddling about couts behaving badly and refusing to train. VVD has done the same and Costa! Well don't get me started.

I have seen people say is it not against their contract or should the not honour it. I have seen ed02 reply with his/ her reply of "But you want VVD"

As far as I am aware, if the players have a contract of employment they need to adear to that contract as per the agreed terms. The fact they don't such as Couts or VVD means they want better things. By that, Couts wants him and his family a warmer and better life in sunny Barcelona with a great chance of trophies!

If VVD pushes and gets his way (aside of the wrongful tapping up) then I would suggest that he sees that as a step up with the potential to win things.

What puzzles me is that we try to look at this on a working-class level! You can't. and by this, if you got offered a 50k a year job but your work said no you cannot leave us! You would tell them where to go?

All though a fooballer cannot directly do that! These footballers want what is best for them and their family as do I! No real loyalties just money. growth. trophies etc.

A top end player like couts will have no issues with a few fines based on hi wage!

Can’t really use Costa in that comparison, he was told he will not be part or chelskis plans whereas we want (ed) to keep Couts and Southampton want to keep VVD.

26 Aug 2017 01:43:10
Thing is, Everton want Costa, and I don't blame them for six months.

Some serious snarlers with him and Rooney, which can win you trophies, especially with both having a proven track record in the league, with bags of European experience.

If I was Koeman and many of my majority bitter yet tongue in cheek "you stopped us in Europe" friends, I reckon a short term loan of an experienced player of that quality could win them a massive European trophy this year.

Win win for me.

26 Aug 2017 02:58:02
Your jobs not going to make you sign a contract and also doesn't need to "own" you in the sense that football clubs do. if a club can't protect its assets then there is no way to survive.

26 Aug 2017 06:13:50
Lol, Costa is not going to Everton.

26 Aug 2017 08:52:07
OP, simple solution. If you want to break a contract, buy yourself out of it and become a free agent. NFL and NBA players do it all the time when they can. Vitolo of Seville bought himself out of his contract this summer to join Atleti. Didn't hear anyone complaining about that.

If Cou and VVD want to break their contracts, they can buy themselves out of it and then repay all the bonuses and pro-rated wage hikes they got and then problem solved. Till then, they had better find a better way to negotiate a way out otherwise, they will have to stay.

{Ed002's Note - They can't buy themselves out. Nonsense. You need to find something else to post about as yours are getting more and more stupid.}

26 Aug 2017 14:31:56
Hey just want everyone's opinions on who are the most reliable journalists regarding LFC news. Apart from James Pearce who I already know.

26 Aug 2017 14:32:03
The difference between Coutinho and VVD is that one wants to join a bigger club the other wants to join a sinking ship at the expense of the club who made him who he is.

26 Aug 2017 15:16:07
Top level football is nothing like any contract we could ever earn or understand, there is so much money involved and too many corrupt 'amazingly clever people in suits. Where there's money there is always greed and fair play to Rick Parry (the rat) and the Premier League for getting on it.

FIFA and UEFA hold all the cards, make up all the rules as they go on. I don't stress about it no more I don't care who we sell or sign as long as we win and hopefully play well, happy days. Everyone's too worried about the cash instead of enjoying boss footy.

25 Aug 2017 22:41:06
Unless I am mistaken what Liverpool need the most is a new goalkeeper. Minger is bang average and the only people who are inspired by him are the opposition.

Believable10 Unbelievable10

25 Aug 2017 23:17:44
I said before the season that Migs wasn't good enough and he's only reinforced my belief so far this season. He's not even the best goalkeeper at the club. Karius and Ward would both far exceed him if they were given a run of games to gel with the defence and get some confidence, imo.

But apparently 4 months or so of being the bare minimum standard we need last season and the fact that his errors haven't directly cost us a goal yet this season seems to be enough for some people.

26 Aug 2017 00:29:00
Something Red, are you doubting Klopp.

26 Aug 2017 01:56:41
I wish for karius to become good but he's probably the worst keepeer in the premier league right now. as for ward, he looks like he knows what he's doing and i would like to see him more.

26 Aug 2017 01:48:25
Many said that he had changed and was ready.

There must be thousands of them quotes as reference.

Utd had the luxury of Peter, then struggled and messed up thereafter, Liverpool had the half luxury of Grobbelar (excuse spelling) who set a precedent of not being able to catch a ball.

Utd struggled after Peter yet had a solid squad, Liverpool struggled in all areas and still can't replace David James.

Says it all, but even them shower can just about exist with Barthez and the lemo head etc.

26 Aug 2017 07:04:17
We should have signed Pickford.

25 Aug 2017 22:14:22
Ed002, are you saying that Liverpool should have come out and said that coutinho has informed us he no longer wishes to play for our club then? I get that you are annoyed with the way Liverpool and klopp have conducted themselves this window, but I don't agree with you saying Liverpool and klopp are wrong for trying to resolve the coutinho issue behind close doors. Don't air your dirty linen and all that, they know he wants out but they also know he may stay (should the offer not be sufficient to them) so they should not be seen to be the ones that have severed all ties surely?

Believable2 Unbelievable3

{Ed002's Note - that is the exact opposite of what I said. I and Liverpool think that this should be addressed behind closed doors.}

25 Aug 2017 22:22:33
ok, as above I too hope this is something resolved within and behind closed doors. That said a closed door always appears to have a phone or loose lip against it these days Ed 😉.

25 Aug 2017 23:17:07
I honestly believe get rid its gone way too far too embarrassing levels, I just hope we have some aces up our sleave we really do need too strengthen this squad we got basis of somethin special if we add rite players we can win something an do well.

26 Aug 2017 01:55:17
Really hailstones, get rid? And then hope we have a few aces up our sleeve? Hope? This window and the club have been a total shambles, and they're not going to do in 6 days what we hadn't been able to do in 2 months, so only for that reason he can honour his legally binding contract he was happy to sign 6 months ago,

26 Aug 2017 08:57:11
Spot on, Port red. Get rid? And then what? No replacement or a panioc buy? And then what? We haven't been able to get the players we want in and suddenly, RBL will sell Keita and Saints will sell VVD cos Cou left. If that is what you think then wake up, my friend. We are not selling Cou cos a) we need him, b) we cannot replace him with 5 days left in the TW and c) we have to show that we are not a selling club and no player can just trample on us cos "it's his dream move" nonsense. That is some BS right there, esp. cos he signed a new deal just months ago. If he wanted to leave, he should have rejected it BUT he did not and now he wants to shaft us at this point of the TW? No way! He stays and that is that.

{Ed002's Note - It is simply a transfer - nothing more, nothing less. Nobody cares what Liverpool do - other clubs just get on with their business. Nobody in the game would use terms like "selling club".}

25 Aug 2017 22:00:41
I'm sorry but I can't understand all the stress over 1 player, who by the way is a good player but certainly no Keegan, Dalglish, Rush, Fowler, Owen, Barnes, Torres or Suarez. He's a good kid who dreams of playing for Barcelona. If one of our sons was playing for Independiente and Liverpool wanted to sign him I'm sure we would forgive him for forcing a move? Sorry but I love LFC not Phil Coutinho, Bobby Firmino or Jurgen Klopp. Doesn't mean I don't want them to become legends for LFC but very few are like Shanks, Paisley, Kenny, Carra et al. We have always had and lost great players, legends come along once or twice a decade and we have been spoilt rotten over the years people. We are back at Europe's top table after too long an absence, onward and upward. YNWA.

Believable14 Unbelievable8

25 Aug 2017 22:27:25
Yeah he doesn't match the likes of Owen despite the fact he may go for the 2nd biggest transfer record in history!? Are you seriously saying he's not at that level!?

People keeps saying 'he's not world class' but name me a team on form he wouldn't get in to? Barcelona want him to replace iniesta one of the best midfielders of the last 20 years? He still young enough to improve as well! ( and has been year after year) . I'll hear a Load of responses based on someone watching you tube for 10 mins and saying they're world class but if you did the same with couts he wins every time! Rant over, gutted if he goes but we need to keep our best players if we want to challenge. Arsenal lost their best player every year for a decade and that's why they never took the next step.

25 Aug 2017 22:49:27
Coutinho is extremely important to us but he certainly seems to have made his mind up. Why couldn't he play for us these last few weeks whilst still trying to negotiate away a transfer away from the pitch if that's what he wants. The fact he has done what he has, has pissed all over the fans. We are through to the CL group stage but it could have so easily gone the other way because of his antics. I want us to keep him as he makes us tick but I can honestly see him being sold for a big fee late in the window. He produces world class moments but I'm not sure if he is quite a world class player yet. For me Mane is more of a match winner on his own but again that is just my opinion.

25 Aug 2017 23:05:59
Get your point Jayden but Suarez did worse and nobody complained when We came close to winning the league. Ultimately we all want the club to be successful and if we stand a better chance of doing that with him we keep him- provided he can apply himself like Suarez did. Of course there is no way of knowing.

Mane like you said has been amazing for us but he couldn't replace an iniesta cos he's not that type of player. Hence his value his higher to them as there are less players capable of filling those shoes.

25 Aug 2017 23:06:07
He is a world class player who makes fantastic plays seem ordinary. For me, losing him will be a sad moment whether this year or next, solely because I enjoy watching him play. and i feel this should be our greatest concern as fans. not the price. We want the best players so we can win the league and if we were to lose him at this point it would be tremendously difficult to find a replacement by the close of the window. Yes, kovacic or draxler could do the job for us or even seri but all I care about is seeing that one of our players wins the player of the league this year, whether Coutinho, Firmino, Mane, Salah or moreno!

25 Aug 2017 23:09:16
Is he as good as Peter Beardsley? not for me. When we lost Keegan we felt it was a disaster, likewise Souness, Whelan, Ray Kennedy, Torres, Suarez, Rush, Dalglish, Gerrard, Aldridge, Bearsdley, Carragher. will history say the same about Pipco?

26 Aug 2017 00:36:36
Wouldn't get in Madrids team.

26 Aug 2017 01:32:49
Hi Lads
Just my opinion . There is little doubt that Couts is our best player . Let us also not forget that football is a team sport. Every competitive game is a literal battle against the opposition In order for us to win trophies we need EVERY single player with a singular focus willing to put his neck on the line for his teammates and the club when the chips are down . The player has made his stance crystal clear, he never wants to play for us again . As much as my heart says keep him and hope that he changes his attitude, my head tells me to get rid . Short term pain for long term gain . If you doubt where his heart lies, do yourself a favour and look at the reaction to his last goal for the team . I will admit that it was only a pre season match but it tells me all I need to know about him . Holding onto hope that things will change is like finding out your wife is unfaithful but still expecting to have a successful marriage . Cut all ties pick yourself up and find someone better . Personally, I suspect that this is the beginning of the decline of Barcelona . Their problems are much bigger than just Neymar leaving . Let Couts find out first hand that the grass isn't always greener on the other side . I wonder if Neymar is still going to advise his good chum that Barcelona is best for his future during the next international break given what has just transpired between himself and Barcelona . Whatever happens I won't be losing any sleep over it . I will be spending all my energy supporting the team that I love and the next hero who will undoubtedly emerge . Bobby, Mane, Trent, Solanke. the future is bright and we are on the rise. YNWA.

26 Aug 2017 01:55:09
Hes not world class.
Sell him and build a team that wants to earn success together.

For me he's another Fabrigas. All dreaming and conspiring to move to Barcelona then grow a beard sitting on the bench with his finger stuck in hiz mouth wondering.

LFC = NO.1.

26 Aug 2017 02:41:43
He makes the difference in the big games - City, Chelsea, Man Utd, Arsenal. Just looks at his goals/ assists in those games. That's what we'd lose if he goes.

26 Aug 2017 07:29:35
Haha the voice of reason from a united fan lol. He is a very good player but not quite in the echelons of world class im afraid. Maybe could be in the future but not right now. Will he be a miss, yes, can we still make strides without him, hell yeah.

Free pipco and let's move on to other targets/ discussions.

26 Aug 2017 14:33:03
Well said Swish.

27 Aug 2017 23:20:30
Ron, If he is unhappy and not available to play, there won't be any goals or assists against any team, bar Brazil.

25 Aug 2017 21:58:12
IF Liverpool do sell coutinho it would give 7 days to try and get a couple of new players in my god it took us nearly 3wks to tie the SALAH deal up--bloody transfer commities ours are a joke.

Believable6 Unbelievable11

25 Aug 2017 22:06:55
Don't forget how much it will cost to replace him or buy someone now!

25 Aug 2017 22:30:25
Behind the front three, AM.

25 Aug 2017 22:34:56
Do you not think the search for his replacement started a while back? I highly doubt the club will accept an offer from Barcelona and then decide they should scout a few players to replace him.

25 Aug 2017 23:09:37
If the club had any sense they would have known once Barcelona had shown an interest he would be off. Even before that first bid went in surely the alarm bells should have rang.

25 Aug 2017 23:36:56
I totally agree I was sayin a year ago I wudnt b surprised if he left us an during season he never looked happy too me, but we all know mane is actually the main cog in attack, we should sell now as he is actually gone too desperate levels an doesn't care bout anythin but himself so go at least if we got someone like ox he would want too do well for us an thrive but we need more quality.

26 Aug 2017 02:42:28
Mane needs service.

26 Aug 2017 08:57:38
Forgive me if im wrong op but doesn't the chief exec do the negotiating not the committee. Plus the eds have said many many many many times that we are working behind the scenes to bring some players in before the end of the window. Whether pipco goes or not to my mind has no bearing on who we are working on signing.

Plus there is this misconception that we need a like for like replacement. Salah has meant mane has replaced pipco on the left wing. So whomever we bring in will possibly be a creative midfielder and a cb, again not dependent on whether pipco goes or not.

People keep saying if he stays he won't sulk, but where is the proof of that. First he courts them for a year, then hands in transfer request when we don't accept their bid. Uses his family to spread rumours od bad blood, then completely throws his dummies, pillow and rattle out the cot proclaiming he will never play for the club again, the club that saved his career and allowed him to develop into a half decent player.

And this is who people are desperate to keep hold of, boggles my mind tbh.

25 Aug 2017 21:55:50
Deer Ed's and members, where do you play AOC if he comes to Anfield? D-mid?

Believable1 Unbelievable4

25 Aug 2017 22:02:41
Left back. Left back at Melwood.

25 Aug 2017 23:08:30
Either wing, possibly in a center attacking mid role when we need a more robust midfield. can't see him as a defensive mid not in klopps system.

25 Aug 2017 23:39:33
I think he could thrive klopp likes workin with power and pace who got that, oxelaide Chamberlain.

25 Aug 2017 23:52:45
He's awful in the middle, he can't tackle, his positional sense is poor, his passing is awful, his shooting ability is prettt rotten and he has no composure on the ball. He should be nowhere near a starting place in central midfield.

26 Aug 2017 00:49:55
Center midfield as a backup. Good energy, work rate and enough speed. If Wijnaldum and Lallana have been converted to playing deeper than their usual positions, and close down and press, then Ox can too.

26 Aug 2017 01:15:43
ESPN is reporting tonight that he is closing in on a move to Chelsea.

26 Aug 2017 02:43:02
He speaks highly of you Les.

26 Aug 2017 14:34:18
Rotational player for Mane and Salah.

25 Aug 2017 21:39:26
macca posted on here a week or so ago about Keita and possibly vvd signing for us. Is this still on? I really hope so but everything seems to have gone quite.

Believable5 Unbelievable10

25 Aug 2017 21:53:46
Quite what?

25 Aug 2017 21:56:59
I love Macca but it does not look very optimistic does it?

26 Aug 2017 04:59:09
That it will work out between you and Macca, Angus?

25 Aug 2017 21:04:26
Regardless of how good he is, i can't see a way back for phillipe. Get the best deal possible and improve the squad with best available. Thanks for what you've done, but time to move on.

Believable15 Unbelievable10

25 Aug 2017 21:40:50
I can't see a way back. He's said he does not want to play for the club ever again and is refusing to train by all accounts. The most important thing is to rinse Barcelona for every penny they have, to bring in top class players to improve our starting 11, not squad filler like Oxlade Chamberlain.

25 Aug 2017 21:53:46
I see everyone bashing ox, and I agree, he most likely wouldn't be an improvement to our starting 11. he would, however, be a great option to have on the bench or as an option for weeks where we have games in quick succession or injury problems.

25 Aug 2017 21:55:00
We'll sell him last minute, buy Ox for a fraction of the price and then bank the rest. Call it negative but some supporters called this weeks ago.

25 Aug 2017 22:04:42
Canada_Red the mistakes we've constantly made in the previous transfer windows is by buying sub standard players to 'improve the squad'. Isn't it about time we went out and actually improved the starting 11?

25 Aug 2017 22:14:11
mr dennis, I understand he's not an improvement on our starting 11. my point is, at the moment we don't have much for depth. what happens if somebody gets hurt Sunday? lallana down, pipco doing his thing, leaves us Milner and some kids that need more experience.

25 Aug 2017 22:18:01
Or kept our best players?

25 Aug 2017 22:35:58
Although there are better players we could sign, Oxlade-Chaimberlain is the only one who may be available. Personally, I rate him, and I also think Klopp can get the best out of him.

25 Aug 2017 23:12:01
Keep in mind he his best years are ahead of him. Wenger wants him to stay and he's breaking into their squad now. The contract ending, as in Sanchez case, is the only reason they would be willing to let him go. because they risk losing him on a free.

25 Aug 2017 23:24:56
You understand Canada Red that buying a squad player or someone to play in the first 11 has the same effect.
+1 player, it just means a former 1st teamer sits on the bench (who is more useful than buying a benchwarmer) .

25 Aug 2017 23:36:39
jtred very good point and I agree 100%, rather buy a starting 11 player then a bench player all day! how many of them are available right now? I see 0. rather add somebody for depth on the bench, than nobody at all.

26 Aug 2017 07:34:56
So canada you are in favour of bringing someone in who does not improve the first team and blocks the progress of the very promising youngsters we have in the squad. Is he better than grujic in the middle? Not to my mind im afraid and that's why i would not be spending £35m on squad player.

25 Aug 2017 20:44:04
Question for the Eds. Am I oversimplifying in assuming that if you sign a 5-year contract to play for a club, then you have to play for that club and cannot - under the rules of a contract - decide which competitions you will or will not play in? With Coutinho 'reportedly' saying that he won't play CL football for us again, is he not in some form of breach of contract? My opinion is that once you've lost a player's heart, he will never be the same again for you, whether it's waiting for the day he is allowed to leave or because he is just bitter and angry that he didn't get his move away. Very interested to see how this all develops.

Believable1 Unbelievable2

{Ed002's Note - He doesn't want to play for Liverpool again - full stop. It is nothing to do with the contract. Folks seem to struggle to understand that.}

25 Aug 2017 21:04:24
I understand that. Thank you for the reply, Ed002.

25 Aug 2017 21:10:38
Well he shouldn't b paid again. Sorry but i cannot believe it's come to this with him. y the hell sign a contract in January and say what he sed I never thought I'd hate a Liverpool player but he is coming very close to being that player.

{Ed002's Note - But you all still want va Dijk?}

25 Aug 2017 21:13:42
Contracts mean nothing nowadays, Pip is obviously hell-bent on destroying his career as everything is a step down from us.

25 Aug 2017 21:14:08
He's thrown his dummy out of his pram now take the ££££££ and let's move on.

25 Aug 2017 21:14:57
The contract is kind of important in fairness!

25 Aug 2017 21:22:31
Ed. If we don't sell him and give him his wish, I really can't see a way back for him?

25 Aug 2017 21:27:08
Not for the money they are asking Ed002. Id give sakho another chance (I know it's not going to happen) but 60+million is a lot for someone who is quite unpredictable.

{Ed002's Note - Klopp wants Sakho gone - he has not played for Liverpool for nearly 18 months. I can't see Klopp taking the humiliation of stepping down after all of this time.}

25 Aug 2017 21:34:16
yes ed of course we still want VVD don't Barcelona fans still want PC aftwr how he has acted.

{Ed002's Note - you are missing the point - Liverpool fans are whining and bitching about one whilst desireously looking to the other.}

25 Aug 2017 21:43:49
Where did fowlersgod say we wanted VVD Ed2?

{Ed002's Note - Who said he did?}

25 Aug 2017 21:46:04
He should have thought about not playing for Liverpool again, when he signed his new deal, accepting the pay rise and coming out and saying he's happy.

We've been told all along that he's been flirting with Barcelona for the past year, talking to Neymar bla bla bla.

So with that being the case, Couthino needs to understand that he's in this situation because he's hedged his bets. Will Barcelona come in for me or not?

Full respect to the board to standing their ground.

25 Aug 2017 21:43:49
Where did fowlersgod say we wanted VVD Ed2?

{Ed002's Note - Who said he did? Perhaps if you took the time read the lists rather than whining you would be better if.}

25 Aug 2017 21:54:48
You know what ed, it's just the modern game. As you say, players are transient enployees. Important thing now is to rinse Barcelona for as much as possible and improve our starting 11. For Sakho I hope a solution is found, yeah the bloke is an idiot, bit he's a likeable idiot.

25 Aug 2017 23:26:53
Who's whining Ed2?

{Ed002's Note - you should have read the post before your whining incorrect post.}

26 Aug 2017 14:30:19
Coutinho doesn't want to play but we can place him in our champions league squad, we can't force him to play but pretty sure we can take him to court for refusing or just keep fining him two weeks wages.

And it's exactly the same for Southampton. Doesn't mean I don't want vvd or you to stay but each club to rip them both a new one for acting so unproffesionally.

25 Aug 2017 20:40:32
Appreciate the long hard slog eds. 1st time poster here but would to hear your opinion - my thinking in regards to all the "will he, won't he move" is the minute one of the following players get there way (couts, vvd, Keita, and Chamberlain) the flood gates will open and clubs will change there stance allowing players to move more freely. What's your thoughts? Are we waiting on someone showing there hand and then it's a free for all?

{Ed001's Note - no.}

Felt like falling from Anfield and landing in Old Trafford.

Apologies if another fan on this site has said it.

Alex OC can be a good addition in the centre of midfield for our style of play. He's had experience defensively and has that attacking threat in his locker.

Given our full backs do get quite far forward, he would provide good cover.

Lets always think of the positive guys!

Experience defensively? Have you even watched him play in centre midfield? He's appalling in that position. He got torn a new butt hole by both Bayern Munich and France when played there, the reason? Because he lacks the ability and intelligence to play there.

25 Aug 2017 21:35:52
We don't play the same system as Arsenal.

25 Aug 2017 21:59:22
Mr Dennis, I can't disagree more with your posts. Yes Ox was inferior to Munich midfield and France midfield but his many games in a row has he played his favoured position and u cannot judge him on playing under Southgate or Wenger in that postion. He will flourish at Liverpool if he can stay fit and give us an added dimension.

Ur talking about top top sides in Munich and France . Given time to develop (he is still young) that can change. Now stop the doom and gloom.

25 Aug 2017 22:00:50
Irrelevant. The point being that when he played in a central position as one of a central three, he looked completely out of his depth. Hasn't the intelligence or skill to play there. We are weak enough through the middle without adding a complete liability to the starting 11.

25 Aug 2017 22:17:55
With a base of can and hendo he would be gown the freedom to make things happen. your judging him on. Couple of games. Narrow minded springs to mind.

25 Aug 2017 20:08:01
Anyone know if derry Matthews Twitter is just banter about vvd.

25 Aug 2017 20:15:54
Yes. Wind up merchant. Don't believe everything you read on Twitter.

25 Aug 2017 20:16:30
I was just thinking to myself recently that a retired boxer running a gym would definitely be my go to guy for information about Virgil van Dijk and Liverpool FC.

His story is that he saw van Dijk by chance around Melwood, yet he somehow has a picture of his Liverpool shirt for the unveiling? Come on.

I'm sure he's a top bloke, but I think it's just something he made up for banter.

25 Aug 2017 20:37:12
He's just trying to get some cheap follows.

25 Aug 2017 19:12:19
Hi Ed.

Since Couts has been "injured" would the club be entitled to not release him for international duty with Brazil?

Thanks.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - (1) He hasn't been injured, and (2) Then they could demand he travel and be assessed by the Brazilian team medical staff which could be incredibly embarrassing for the club.}

25 Aug 2017 20:01:27
Why would that be embarrassing Ed, I think it would embarrass pipco more as he would be seen as a liar. Maybe he actually is injured haha and we all saying bad things about him lol.

{Ed002's Note - If you don't understand there is no point explaining.}

25 Aug 2017 20:03:22
It'd be more embarrassing for the player who's been claiming injury than the club.

{Ed002's Note - OK.}

25 Aug 2017 20:39:30
Unless you're saying he's not injured or ill (as we all suspect) and that it's just how the club are spinning it rather than something that's coming from the player. E. g. He's saying he won't and the club have come out in the media saying he's injured rather than his refusal or he's pretending he's injured. So basically he goes to Brazil they confirm he's not injured and it's us who's been lying to the media rather than the player lying to the club- that could seem embarrassing I guess.

{Ed002's Note - The player has not made himself available to be picked or for training and the club do not want this played out in public - although there are idiots here who want him to make some interview to embarrass the player - but they have zero understanding of the matter. The club want the whole matter resolved behind closed doors and are starting to feel the impact of the stupid and unprofessional way they, and particularly Klopp, has dealt with transfers this summer.}

25 Aug 2017 20:44:06
Think you guys are missing the point our medical team and club has been going a long with his story. Am I right ed2.

{Ed002's Note - The club do nnot wish to discuss this publically.}

25 Aug 2017 21:17:23
The point being that the club has said he is injured. Not the player. He had made himself unavailable for selection as he wants to move to Barcelona. So if he plays for Brazil and not us you can see where his motives lie.

25 Aug 2017 22:06:24
He may just choose to party with Costa and not come back.

26 Aug 2017 00:35:01
Hopefully.

26 Aug 2017 04:36:48
Surely if he Plays for Brazil, it will show a complete lack of respect to LFC and the fans who indirectly pay his huge salary,

This makes the club look worse to the outside world.
IMO.

Anyway thanks for answering the original post Ed.

{Ed002's Note - When is the Brazil game?}

25 Aug 2017 19:09:19
Jean-Michael Seri has been left out of OGC Nice's squad to face Amiens tomorrow night.

Is this Liverpool, PSG or somebody else?

Thanks in advance for your reply.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I have no idea but it may be that the player's head is not in the right place afeter the events of Tuesday.}

25 Aug 2017 19:50:34
Under his arm?
Up his.

Thanks for the swift reply.

25 Aug 2017 20:04:01
Seri will be the missing link for us I have watched him for 2 seasons now and can be the next xavi imo we would be lucky to steal him from barca.

26 Aug 2017 14:29:09
Well stealing him from Barcelona would mean them stealing cou from us and I don't know how I feel about that.

25 Aug 2017 17:55:20
All this coutinho nonsense is getting boring now, reports circling around he has told klopp he doesn't want to be selected for the champions league squad. Bloody pathetic, I loved the guy and think he a smashing footballer but the extremes he seems to be going to surely there isn't a way back. Take the money and try and invest it. Ed002 a question if I may?
Would this behaviour be just coutinhos own way of making the move or could Barcelona be suggesting he does this to force the move? I only ask as i can't imagine his actions look particularly favourable for him if he doing this of his own accord and could possibly make Barcelona slightly hesitant. Looks like vvd and coutinho have made there beds and may have to lie in them or eat some humble pie.

Believable3 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Knowing his intermediary very well I very much suspect it is his doing. Right now I rather doubt he will do the interview like Raheem Sterling did to Liverpool, but a statement issued publicly like van Dijk would strike me as more likely.}

25 Aug 2017 20:40:36
Cheers for your response ed002. This has got to be driving you guys nuts and I can only imagine it is going to get worse for you guys. Can I ask if you have had any recent updates regarding transfers at all in the last 24/ 48 hours?

25 Aug 2017 21:07:42
Update : Nobody has signed for us, and nobody has left.
That is all.

25 Aug 2017 22:32:41
Ed002 is this not breach of contract. If players like Coutinho, VVD, Costa etc have valid contracts, surely making yourself unavailable when your not injured goes against the contract and the clubs can seek damages?

{Ed002's Note - they will not be taking legal action against the player. You all need to get rid of this obsession with money and contracts.}

26 Aug 2017 09:13:47
Does the intermediary share a name with a Korean car manufacturer who promise 7yr warrantees?
Or the first half of a well known drink that's "too orangey for crows"?

{Ed002's Note - Kia Joorabchian.}

25 Aug 2017 19:19:27
Still don't understand why we would keep couts he has let everyone down and now he s gone to play for Brazil. No way back from here.

Believable4 Unbelievable1

25 Aug 2017 19:33:39
How is that possible he meant too b injured isn't there sum legal action that can be brought in, proves he refusing too play, I know I am bein a hypocrite cos I want vvd an he doing the same but I can't help it.

25 Aug 2017 19:56:43
Sadly, we seem to have come along way from a few weeks back when Pipco was rumoured to have said he would love to play for Barcelona but only if a deal could be done that meant it was amicable with Liverpool and he wouldn't force the move!

26 Aug 2017 14:25:25
I don't know know why Brazil would include him in their squad injured or not. He hasn't played or trained for a month so he hasn't earnt his place in the slightest.
The same applies for the Netherlands if they were to include Van Dijk in their side.

26 Aug 2017 14:27:57
It's not being a hypocrite. Southampton should take every action that's possible with vvd. Same as us. Either sell or Not, both clubs are entitled to do what they want. Both players have 5 year deals.

I'm not going to say I don't want vvd and cou to stay but it doesn't mean either player isn't currently being a tit.

25 Aug 2017 19:18:51
Much as i love Klipperty if he thinks Moreno is like a new signing and is outstanding then we have a problem.
Its going to be a fun ride guys with plenty of high scoring games but we won't win the league letting in 50 goals a season like we did with Rodgers.
Having said that i loved being at those games it was electric at Anfield.

Believable4 Unbelievable5

25 Aug 2017 19:33:09
I would have much prefered him to come out and tell everyone he doesn't rate Alberto.

25 Aug 2017 19:43:15
Moreno needs confidence and that what Klopp is doing I think he will be part of the best defence in the league once we get going and I think most people here will agree what about u Ed.

{Ed002's Note - No, not at all.}

25 Aug 2017 19:44:52
Really? You want the manager to destroy a youngster who's spent an entire season out of the fold, without moaning, worked as hard as he could and regained his place?
That's a very strange call,

25 Aug 2017 20:05:33
accept the fact that Moreno will be first choice LB and Robertson is second choice LB this season for Liverpool.

25 Aug 2017 20:11:49
Klopp's hardly going to come out say: "We all like Alberto, but he can't defend for toffee and he'll be backup once we get Robertson over the messed up pre season he had at Hull. " is he?

He knows full well what Moreno's limitations are, or else Milner wouldn't have played left full all last season, and we wouldn't have bought Robertson in the summer. Once Robertson is fully fit, he'll play the majority of games, unless by some miracle of science he manages to be a worse defender than Moreno, which is unlikely.

25 Aug 2017 20:19:01
would you like your missus to public state you have a tiny willy and don't know how to use it?

{Ed001's Note - or perhaps for a bird to have a top selling song talking about how you naked doesn't impress her much?}

25 Aug 2017 22:52:47
Ed001

Would you mind if she had written the same song about you? I THINK NOT 😂😂😂😂.

{Ed001's Note - it's ok mate, no needs to know if it had been about me.}

25 Aug 2017 19:18:43
Ed001. Do you no were Klopp sees AOC playing please? CM. Wing? I guess he likes his versatility?

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - spot on, it is that he wants.}

26 Aug 2017 14:28:20
But he has young players for that

Ox pretty much means no kent or Woodburn.

How are they meant to do a kane or ali if they get replaced by a bang average player.

Listen is he signs fine. Accept it but just don't understand if you have a first team then you use your youngwe players for the rest.

25 Aug 2017 18:54:24
I actually think we won't sign anyone else before the window closes! Even if Couts goes. my issue with LFC is we seem to concentrate too much on players that have far too complicated contracts, we go about potential signings in the wrong manner I. e tapping up individuals and finally the players we look at are leaked to the media and social networks months before we do anything which enables their current club to ride out for as much as possible. We have a good squad but not a sufficient squad to compete in the main competitions.

Believable4 Unbelievable7

25 Aug 2017 18:38:55
Hi Ed's

The way we are setup to play by Klopp, I some times wonder if we really need defenders.

Why not replace the center backs with utility attacking midfielders?

It will make watching LFC more exiciting and we would end being watched most in history.

A new chapter in football will begin with no defenders at this rate.

Cheers.

Believable5 Unbelievable5

25 Aug 2017 18:49:19
Wouldn't be a bad idea haha, like Eds said we have a world class manager so who knows what he's going to do to make us the best. YNWA.

25 Aug 2017 19:03:54
I didn't realise we had been playing with any defenders in the past. Klopp might even attempt to put a goalkeeper in as well 😉.

25 Aug 2017 19:10:52
I thought that's we were doing already?
Moreno, lovren and migs can hardly be called defenders lol.

25 Aug 2017 19:13:39
I don't think I've ever read on this website where any of the Eds say Klopp is a world class manager.

Rodgers 2.0 can't address the back line efficiently.

25 Aug 2017 18:07:39
I would definitely take Ox. He is versatile, experienced in premier league and European football, adds depth to our squad and is still only 24 so can develop under Klopp!

Believable11 Unbelievable5

25 Aug 2017 18:15:08
Defenders defenders defenders not attackers not ox not Sanchez from Munich defenders.

25 Aug 2017 18:19:30
He's going to chelsea 100%. Looks like we won't be signing anyone as klopp as said having miller and moreno is like having 2 new players so no cb and holding midfielder then so or the rubbish about having 150- 200 million on players ye rite the defence is a shambles and I mean a shambles.

25 Aug 2017 18:41:56
I would definitely NOT take ox. He's no improvement on what we have. He's a regression and would expect first team football.

25 Aug 2017 18:47:05
Ox has the potential to be world class, Ed will agree with me here. We both think he will be a great buy, and could end up being our best player.

{Ed001's Note - erm which ed?}

25 Aug 2017 18:48:13
If klopp thinks he can get by wid current squad all season he has a tin of beans for a brain.

25 Aug 2017 18:50:31
The Ed2 or 1 I think.

{Ed001's Note - it certainly wasn't me, sure it wasn't Ed025? He does like a joke....}

25 Aug 2017 18:54:15
Idk but i can't wait for him to be scoring 25+ gols for us evry season. How many do u think he will get.

{Ed001's Note - erm.}

25 Aug 2017 19:06:23
Ox world class and 25 + goals a season. If this didn't qualify for a banter page before it most certainly does now.

25 Aug 2017 19:10:31
I just can't understand how someone with 12 months on their contract can have media talk about £25 and £35m fees. The telcos paying such big tv rights is making it a crazy world.

25 Aug 2017 19:13:04
He has not even scored 25 his whole career.

25 Aug 2017 19:15:11
Yeah he will be world class Ed agrees don't no witch one. And 25 goals across the league, champions league and cups would be easy if he is as good as Ed says. We've got a great player on are hands guys YNWA.

{Ed001's Note - have you been drinking?}

25 Aug 2017 19:16:08
Ox as world class is possibly the funniest thing I've read all day. You know it's not April fools day?

25 Aug 2017 19:47:48
You know, one of the Eds.
Not you, 2,25 or 7, but one of them,

{Ed002's Note - Certainly not me. Perhaps the Everton fan said it?}

25 Aug 2017 19:26:01
I agree with 200sdE. If AOC joins liverpool, he will break the most goals in a single premier league season (which is 31 goals) easily.

BOOM.

25 Aug 2017 20:59:00
Just been watching Mickey Flanagan and had to turn it off coz this guy is much more funnier. The Ox world class and 25 goals a season player 😂😂.

25 Aug 2017 21:06:40
Hahaha 25 goals. The kid has scored 9 league goals over 4 years. Seriously if we sign him and he scores 25 goals I will run to anfield naked from southport.

25 Aug 2017 22:31:35
I assume that was all toungue in cheek. made me laugh nonetheless!

AOC for the golden boot then.

25 Aug 2017 17:53:09
I'd be well happy if we sign Ox. Unlike most on here I believe he will be a good option for the middle and add pace and ability to beat a man in there which we are lacking. Wini also has this ability but seems to big and choose when to use it. Ox is more dymanic and will be a great Option given the lack of depth in the squad. It helps that he can play wide also and give another option to Mane and Salah. Just hope we can get this deal and some others down! Particularly at centre back!

YNWA.

25 Aug 2017 18:05:26
Chelsea are favourites according to Sly.

25 Aug 2017 18:11:15
I am certainly willing to let him prove himself as should be done. Good versatility is probably one of the key factors in Klopp liking him.

25 Aug 2017 18:12:23
Wouldn't be believing Sky!

25 Aug 2017 18:29:25
It's been on the Skysports sidebar for 6 weeks that we're the favourites to buy the Ox. They're just trying to people to put bets on. Don't believe them.

25 Aug 2017 18:48:04
I don't trust sly, but Ed said he's coming so they must be wright!

{Ed001's Note - he would prefer to join Liverpool.}

25 Aug 2017 19:11:30
Why Liverpool over Chelsea? Just interested to hear your view Ed. Is it game time? Cash? Or just believes in Klipperty.

{Ed001's Note - I don't know.}

25 Aug 2017 19:16:48
I'd prefer him to sign for Chelsea. Don't rate him.

25 Aug 2017 20:50:39
Isnt he a liverpool fan.

25 Aug 2017 17:50:59
Sorry all, I'm not a master tactician or massively experienced but AOC is a similar player to Can. My thoughts are that AOC could open the door to Can being sold to avoid him leaving on a free next year.

25 Aug 2017 18:13:58
Totally different . Ox better technical ability and is much quicker . Can is a powerhouse who it at his best driving forward and pressing .

25 Aug 2017 19:19:34
Ox is nothing like Can, Can has a far better range of passing, has better positional sense, is more composed on the ball and can actually shoot from distance. Oxlade is a headless chicken at best.

25 Aug 2017 17:10:50
My take on the Ox and before him Walcott, is that Arsenal have stifled their careers.
Both came on to the scene with natural potential but something about the Arsenal set up has held them back.

I feel there is potential there and I would be happy to see him make the move. I remember how much people complained about Mane but look at him now.

I do not see the Ox as a centre mid however, he would be fighting with Mane and Salah for a place on the wings.

25 Aug 2017 17:20:35

25 Aug 2017 17:20:46
You doing your loan reviews again this season, carra?

25 Aug 2017 17:29:02
Yeah I like that idea cos we need cover for salah an mane, but now also we need a cb an def mid an creative attacker.

25 Aug 2017 17:35:41
If he comes, then Great but no demands of playing in a certain position or game time. If you are good enough, you play, plain and simple.

25 Aug 2017 17:38:49
Arrrrrrrgh as well poor pootihno very concerned an feelin down, he wasnt sayin that a month ago was he sayin he lookin forward too new season all that crap, he has created a big mess why cudnt he express his desire earlier instead of dragging our name through mud no respect at all for him.

25 Aug 2017 18:02:44
I will try to get some loan reports started after the transfer window closes.
I'm travelling with my job a lot more nowadays which makes it difficult but I will do what I can for you lovely people 😬.

25 Aug 2017 18:06:00
Hail sorry my friend but you are coming across a bit childish, i take it you have never changed your mind about anything ever. Free pipco ✌.

25 Aug 2017 18:54:36
Sorry u are rite LFC have made me into a jibbering fool who has a million thoughts an opinions in my head, I love this club an he draggin us through mud and fans an I hate that, too b honest I wish he would jus be sold an we strengthen I knew he was a gonner last season he always looked miserable an sulky, when u say free pipco wat do u mean.

25 Aug 2017 19:02:31
The only question marks over Mane were related to his attitude, I never saw people doubting his ability.

Ox is bang average and, like Walcott, is a Pony. He got pace but that's about it: poor passing, poor crossing, poor decision making - just runs and offers little else (like Walcott) . Maybe Klopp can change him or use him in a different way but in midfield, were it seems most likely he would play, he lacks the skills. Would not be the best piece of transfer business if true - this is only my opinion though.

25 Aug 2017 17:09:36
I too am disappointed as of yet with our business in the transfer window. I do think we have done well with Sallah, Solanke, and Robinson, but our failure to bring our principle targets is disappointing. I do realise though that as much as we all love LFC thy are no longer the attraction they were to top players who have more attractive offers in there eyes . A t present time, one attraction we have apart from Cl is supposedly players wanting to play for Jurgen Klopp so I don't understand people being so critical of him because we have not signed some of the names being bandied about. I am sure he be trying to sign who he wants if they were available to come and wanted to come so we just have to see what happens in the next few days.

Believable1 Unbelievable2

25 Aug 2017 17:20:46
I think we have a stronger squad than what people think tbh.

25 Aug 2017 17:24:36
The two main targets we want, want to move to Liverpool it's the clubs that won't sell.

25 Aug 2017 17:31:22
Hey eds seein as ajax got no euro footy at all should sum of there better players be more available like veltman, dolberg, ziyech etc.

{Ed001's Note - they already sold Sanchez to ensure they don't need money.}

25 Aug 2017 17:42:25
Our squad would be fine with just a couple of more quality additions otherwise we going to struggle when injuries come we had this last year an we didn't even have euro footy.

25 Aug 2017 16:08:45

25 Aug 2017 16:37:43
All the players in the team are a bit confused as to why coutinho wants Barcelona, especially Firmino who can't understand why he doesn't want to stay at Liverpool ( I know the eds have been saying for ages he's been flirting with Barca) just passing on what I've been told, they all think it's a bit bizarre but aren't really getting involved, pretty sure Firmino wants a new deal though, also karius would be playing but needs to change his lifestyle, klopp isn't happy with him, personally I'd be giving Ward a chance now, also like I've been saying for months TAA is first choice now as far as I know.

Believable25 Unbelievable1

25 Aug 2017 16:48:07
I would Karius a chance first cos he never got a really good crack of the whip as people were rooting for him to fail and as soon as he made a mistake, the "fans" turned on him. Ward is still inexperienced altho very talented, like Karius. Migs should never have been kept and Karius should have been kept in goal so he can learn and progress and if he is not the one, at least we would have known. Right now, we don't even know if karius is the answer.

25 Aug 2017 16:50:03
Nice one square how's joe getting on.

25 Aug 2017 16:46:24
Thanks ST always appreciate the input. How's Gomez doing? and what's the plans with him does he know? Assuming clyney becomes back up to TAA!

Cheers.

25 Aug 2017 18:26:39
Love to see your posts ST, glad to hear the squad isn't getting involved in the Coutinho saga hopefully they all crack on and perform. I agree with you about Ward I think he deserves a shot he had a great half a season at Aberdeen which Klopp ruined by calling him back followed by a great season at Huddersfield. I'd be happy to see Joe and TAA share RB duties this season and Joe getting a crack at CB in the cups both are looking sharp. Hope your right about Firmino looking to extend his stay he is the vital cog in the team.

25 Aug 2017 16:20:38
Why does everyone believe the rubbish in the press? It's quite simple, he plays for Liverpool, would like to play for Barcelona, and I'm sure if the transfer doesn't go through he'll be upset for a bit then pick himself up and move on.

Why should we judge whether he's worthy or not to play for Liverpool by some rubbish some pundit says about what is very likely just sensationalism ?

Oh and I'm pretty sure he wasn't as privileged as many on here when he started out.

25 Aug 2017 16:21:58
They're feeling lower than low.

25 Aug 2017 16:32:21
What have wages vot to do with this?

Many helms on here still want him to stay.

Let him go and join his dream club.

I don't understand the logic.

25 Aug 2017 16:37:19
I don't want van dijk i just want someone to kick lovren off the club and even a u8 chld is ok😭😭😭😭.

25 Aug 2017 16:39:43
Apparently he's just been named in Brazil squad. The injury and illness must be severe.

{Ed025's Note - hes suffering with titty lip sydrome jayden..

25 Aug 2017 16:51:04
VVD and Saints are free to do what they like. That is of no concern to me. My concern is LFC and Cou. If he does not get his move, he will have to get over it and get ready to play, just like Suarez. Nothing more, nothing less.

{Ed025's Note - only love..oh yeah..

25 Aug 2017 17:03:47
He's been called up for Brazil. Just shows there's no injury at all.

25 Aug 2017 17:10:45
If Cout love so much Barcelona he shouldn't sign for lfc in first place.
Remember if u will allow Cout to go becouse of his behavior, that will influence other player to do the same in next window.
LFC cannot bo forced sell any player, that message should understood to all players.
If u want to compete we have hold on to our key players.
We have to build our own team not Barca.

25 Aug 2017 18:21:11
Let him go end of its like the wife wants to break up but you won't give her divorce even do see said she loved you more than ever in January horrible bitch.

Hi Eds,

Sorry to be a pest, but with time running out do you feel we will still see players brought in and if so do you think it could be more than one. Not asking for names.

Thanks in advance, your work is much appreciated.

Hello Ed01, How do you rate Renato Sanches?

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - I don't, I do not remember seeing him play.}

25 Aug 2017 13:37:16
Didn't look that good in the Euros under 21's.

25 Aug 2017 13:46:50
He was hyped a lot before the euros but I saw nothing more than a lot of enthusiasm from him.

25 Aug 2017 13:54:30
If his name was Richard smith the same hype wouldn't surround him!

25 Aug 2017 14:02:42
He would cost us 20 million more to buy though, English players always do.

25 Aug 2017 14:02:43
He looked awful against us. I pray we do not sign him.

25 Aug 2017 14:17:02
he is not awful at all! He is strong and has good technique. Fairly quick to distribute ball and fairly accurate with pass.

For me a very good talent and wouldn't say no, but doubt it will happen.

25 Aug 2017 16:09:35
"He looked awful against us, I pray we don't sign him" Your opinion on a player comes down to one game. A pre season friendly? 😩.

25 Aug 2017 16:24:36
Not into sanches all engine no end product.

25 Aug 2017 17:54:43
I've only seen him play at the euros really and he was quality there. I heard though that he's struggled settling in to a different culture though which could be a bit of worry for us.

Ed I'm sorry I doubted u when u said he wasn't the right man! He plays great offensive ball! But defensive is a disaster we are simply not going to out score every one!
I think out transfer business is done! A few more injuries and so will our season!

25 Aug 2017 12:33:40
He is slowly coming in terms with the FACTS! His target are simply unattainable and they have made it very late to find alternatives. I don't know whom to believe and who not to.

25 Aug 2017 12:32:49
No need for sarcasm Ed, we get it .

25 Aug 2017 12:52:19
No manager comes out and says yes our defence is terrible and all need replacing! Of course he's trying to bring people in. Give it a rest and support you're team!

I have a real problem with people doubting Klopp. He has got us into the Chanpions League, nett spend is minimal and people are moaning.

Yes defence is poor but attack is bloody brilliant, midfield is pretty good as well.

1 defender and 1 midfielder in and we can win the league. Fed up to the back teeth of some supporters on here, you do not have to agree with ED02 you know!

Klopp is the best man for the job.

{Ed025's Note - get real mate, to win the league you need 8 new players..

25 Aug 2017 15:24:25
We need a cash injection and a club that's run with football people instead of from over the sea, we need ambitious owners and a whole new set up regarding transfers, we want to challenge its no good shopping at asda when there is a harrods in the same market, im sick of hearing they saved us from debt blah blah blah, they got us on the cheap and have sucked it dry ever since.

Qn for Ed01 - How good was Tommy Smith and Ron Yeats in their heyday?

Would their style of play flourish in he modern day?

I think we are missing a real hard man in the team at the moment and wonder how they would do in the game as it's played nowadays.

Believable2 Unbelievable1

25 Aug 2017 12:39:59
Keeping in context with the Ex players, Ed01 if you are around. Why do you think the fans have forgotten Keegan. Often I think he doesn't get the recognition that he deserves. Some call him Daglish before Daglish. Never seen posters, songs or any kind of gestures for the man.

{Ed001's Note - because of the way he left and was replaced with the King.}

25 Aug 2017 12:47:57
i thought this was an interesting question so i asked my father about them, he seen them play, and scouseeater in his opinion your very wrong as he says if huth and shawcross can play in the premiership, yeats and smith could definitely play in the premiership as they where far better in his opinion.

25 Aug 2017 12:51:42
I was around to watch Tommy Smith and Ron Yeats in their heyday.
At that time Ron was pretty much unbeatable in the air and you didn't go anywhere near Tommy Smith unless you fancied a night in hospital.

In their day (let's not forget Tommy's goal in the European Cup Final) they were really special. But football has moved on and the hard men of the game are no more.

Players nowadays are super fit athletes and the rules have changed significantly since that time too.

Those two are, for me, an intrinsic part of the building blocks, along with a number of other players and managers, that are embedded in the history of Liverpool FC.

25 Aug 2017 13:09:31
You wouldn't see today's player's Inthe tiger club after the match and these where honerable men but then there was no Bosnian rule as. for play yeatsy was a tower in the middle and smithy had some class as well as steel with today's dietary and training methods they would have walked into today's team.

25 Aug 2017 13:26:26
For some reason, I don't remember Yeats that much, but definitely remember Tommy Smith. He was a mean looking, rugged brute that you'd want to stay the hell away from. Just like Souness or McDermott, you'd see them with the ball, and you'd want to step aside to let them get by, because they looked like they would run over you if you didn't. Unlike today's crop with manicured nails, gelled hair and matching multi-colored boots. I'll accept that maybe those players were not so gifted technically, but force of character drove them to the heights they all reached. Football was a far tougher game back then, and almost nobody ever looked at the réf when they landed on their butt. Just got back up, and got on with it.

25 Aug 2017 13:51:43
Ed01 - Before my time

I knew women always lied about their age ;)

{Ed001's Note - ouch!}

25 Aug 2017 15:02:37
Smith and Rowdy Yates?

Effectively like running into a brick wall.

{Ed025's Note - very strong, considering they had very little ability mate..

25 Aug 2017 16:47:28
There's a story about Tommy Smith giving Jimmy Greaves a slip of paper as they ran onto the pitch at Anfield.
The slip of paper (allegedly) was the day's menu at the Liverpool infirmary.
Apocryphal perhaps, but Smith was a very good player as well as a hard man and he would walk into our team today.

{Ed025's Note - i remember him as a strawberry nosed yard dog who kicked the player more than the ball...a real knuckle dragger as ED002 would say DJP..

25 Aug 2017 17:08:20
Look back at his performance in the '65 FA Cup win, and consider he scored a goal in a European Cup final.
Tommy Smith's image as a hard man has detracted from his reputation as a very good footballer.
The man is a legend.

25 Aug 2017 18:36:25
Yeats and Smith had ample ability but the game was a lot harder then. But make no mistake, they could play as well; if they had been training under today's fitness schemes they would still have done ok. Oh for a modern day Yeats-like figure in the heart of our defence.

25 Aug 2017 11:57:40
With the whole lack of activity in regards to signing a CB, I have a feeling the plan for this season is to make Joe Gomez the starting CB over the course of the season. I know he has been playing RB so far, but he's very capable at CB and I think soon enough he may overtake Lovren in the pecking order. I hope.

Believable4 Unbelievable7

25 Aug 2017 12:13:38
Hopefully sooner rather than later. I think he is ready now.

25 Aug 2017 17:56:53
Klopp wants him to convert to a full back I feel. Klopp said that over the summer the club put Gomez on a diet that would cause him to lose muscle this making him that bit quicker and more agile and suiting the full back position.

25 Aug 2017 11:32:45
Eds do you see our dormant transfer behaviour in recent weeks as a sign of us seeking alternative targets or are we playing some sort of waiting game on the targets we already know about? Hard for you to answer that I know but I'm trying to get my head around what it is our transfer committee are doing as we are not seeing/ hearing about any progression on any deals.
Very frustrating when you see the likes of Man City who are very aggressive in the transfer market get their deals done so quickly.

Believable0 Unbelievable2

{Ed002's Note - There is no conspiracy, secret messages or anything else going on. Klopp set out with named targets and right now has none of them. Macca seems confident at least one will arrive and I have no reason to doubt him. Equally Klopp has said that he is satified with what has already been done and he already has enough centre backs. Quite frankly I would pay little heed to what he is saying. Maybe he has learned the lesson that there are better ways to go about transfers that the way he has done it this summer.}

25 Aug 2017 11:42:49
I'm hoping for at least 2 players to come in. A quality CB and either a CM or Winger. Both of Pipco leaves which I think he might if Barcelona offered something like £110 m up front with £25-35 m in add ons. I'd let him go for that if I'm honest. I can't really see a way back for him, he's a quality player and will be missed but I'd rather have players 100% committed to the cause.

25 Aug 2017 12:15:13
Same here. I would expect / hope at least 2 to arrive in the next 6 days! A CB who can head the ball, A CM who can dictate the game!

25 Aug 2017 13:31:16
From your mouth to his ears, I hope, Ed002. Without going into details, let's just hope he's understood in precise details, what needs to be done (and not done), in the future.

25 Aug 2017 11:27:52
Morning Eds and Reds,

Question for the Eds.

We know that Chelsea have relationships with other teams throughout Europe and the rest of the world.

City Group are obviously building/ buying teams around the world as well.

And we all know about Red Bull and their multiple ventures throughout world football.

I was just wondering if Liverpool and FSG are looking at anything similar.

I know Chelsea's system is much less of a formal arrangement, and is more just a good working relationship with certain teams, so would probably be closer to what I would imagine Liverpool trying to do (provided we haven't p****d everyone off) .

Your views/ opinions on this would be very much appreciated.

Cheers in advance.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - The relationships between Chelsea and other sides for loan players and what City Group cannot be compared. Certainly FSG are not in the position to be buying clubs all over the world and would not be looking to do so. Liverpool has not got a structured approach to dealing with loan players just yet but are aware of the shortfall. But before looking to build relationships with any other sides they need to get the structure in place and tested out.}

25 Aug 2017 11:39:12
Cheers Ed :)

Would be good to see us sort out the loan system and use it properly. I'm not advocating a system where we buy loads of players and loan them all out in the hope some come good, but a more measured approach where we pick the right loans for the right players to get them the first team football they need.

Like you have said previously the reason Chelsea's loan system works is because they keep regular contact with the players and they aren't just left to fend for themselves while away from the club.

For me we have quite a few players who would benefit from a good loan but I'm scared about the club sending them out on loan because historically they have done nothing for the player at all.

{Ed002's Note - Yes, you are right. If a player goes on loan you need him to be playing regularly and training regularly and to some extent growing up.}

25 Aug 2017 12:04:30
Would having a proper reserve team league nation wide that runs parallel to tha A team league.

This way clubs could develop players to suit their own system of play rarher tban hoping another club will do it.

I know the loanee club pays a proportion of wages etc. But this B league, if it was run correctly could be self funding and would be more beneficial to young players who are potential first team prospects.

{Ed002's Note - They do, it is called Premier League 2 and Liverpool are away at Arsenal in it tonight.}

25 Aug 2017 12:49:13
I hear you Ed but the PL2 feels like mostly kids still, do you think that'll change?

Feels clubs still heavily reliant on loans to bridge the gap from junior leagues to PL, and most kids would benefit from a year or two of competitive football to develop and prove themselves amongst experienced pros before taking the next step.

Crazy idea perhaps, but if FSG were to buy a club in the championship or a league down, made sure it was run professionally and wasn't a financial drain, I'm sure it would benefit from having the best Liverpool u23s coming in on loan, while Liverpool could pick from the very best that prove themselves without needing to pay a fortune in transfer fees.

Or is that the worst idea ever?

{Ed002's Note - It is Under 23s. FSG are not going to be buying a Championship club.}

25 Aug 2017 14:18:05
True but it would be fun watching some of the u23s migrate to a championship club we could all support!

Thought Huddersfield might be the one with Wagner and all, but then those cheeky gits went and got themselves promoted - and have carried on winning too.

25 Aug 2017 16:25:35
I know the u23 is the premier B but it bears little comparison to the A league.

It seems more for developing the young players with an allowance for a few over 23s

If it were balanced the other way, say 70%/ 30% older to youngerthen the games would be similar to the first team in quality and physicality, which in turn would better preparation for rhe younger lads.

25 Aug 2017 10:57:18
Question for any eds/ reds that may know.

Its been clear that most south americans grow up wanting to play for barce/ Madrid but what about Africans?

Would mane's head be turned like coutinho if those two came in or would he be like agger and want Liverpool/ premiership football.

cheers.

Believable1 Unbelievable2

{Ed002's Note - He is simply another player who will attract interest and could potentially leave - like all players. There is nothing special about the Liverpool players.}

25 Aug 2017 11:14:25
I agree on everything bar that he is simply another player ed, if you said simply a player from another planet then id fully agree lol

thanks for the answer ed.

25 Aug 2017 11:24:19
I think all players want to wins things and want to play at the highest level possible, until we can meet players ambitions we'll always loose our best players.

25 Aug 2017 11:44:15
Play UCL football every year and challenge for trophies, then our best players will want to stay at the club. Otherwise players like Firmino and Mane may look elsewhere if we have a disappointing 2017/ 18. And can u really blame them?

25 Aug 2017 12:51:06
I suspect teams from Africa don't have as much of an attraction to play in any particular league (or if anything perhaps PL) but Mane would be as susceptible as anyone for playing for the very best.

25 Aug 2017 10:35:58
If couts does make a public plea to leave as is being rumoured, I don't see a way back for him. I can see a situation where he is gone and we don't have anyone else coming in until January. The club have made a mess of what should have been a great summer.

Believable3 Unbelievable7

25 Aug 2017 10:56:03
Did Suarez shut himself out the team when he tried pushing a move to Arsenal? Players come and go, get led by there agents at times and make stupid decisions. If every player "had no way back" after wanting to move then there would have been a lot more transfers in the history of the game.

{Ed002's Note - Suarez threatened legal action against the club.}

25 Aug 2017 11:35:16
He sure did but at least he didn't get his mummy to phone in sick for him - I'm joking.
Look, nobody knows what's going on behind the scenes.
How do we know for example if he and Klopp genuinely did or did not fall out over the Summer? We don't.
It's very simple in my book, if a fair offer comes in with straight up payments, let him go.
I know it's unpopular to say it but the lad is human, he has childhood dreams he wants to live out.
I know we'll be weaker unless he's replaced but sometimes we need to see the bigger picture.
I believe we would let him go if a fair offer is made, so in my book it's Barcelona who need to make this right not us.
We in turn should fix the situation with Southampton and Van Dijk if we can - overpay if needed as we have messed them and the player about.

25 Aug 2017 11:36:50
Let's face it, your average footballer isn't that sharp and they are easily led by their agents, who at the end of the day are after money alone. They are young men being manipulated by sharks. One club men like Carra and Le Tissier are few and far between. Enjoy them while that stay, and respect them afterwards if they deserve it.

25 Aug 2017 11:39:54
Let Coutinho go that's what I think, we've done fine without him so far so take the money (as long as price is right) and re invest in 3 players, CB, CM and winger. If we could bring in VVD or Koulibaly defence is stronger, If we bring in Keita for CM yes we lose the creativity of Pipco but Keita might well turn out to be an absolute world beater and bring in Ox because Klopp likes him and he'd fit our system. For me signing 3 players like the above 3/ 4 mentioned we're a stronger side.

25 Aug 2017 12:22:59
Nice one Kev.

25 Aug 2017 13:08:12
Good thing you don't run the club, RedTed. Cos next time, it will be Bobbie, then Mane throwing the same crap up just to get a move. Then, what do you do then? How do we compete by selling our best players w/ o putting up some fight to keep them at least for a couple more season, all cos they threw a pathetic tantrum? If you really think we can do w/ o Cou esp. w/ o a replacement in sight then, you are leaving in an alternate reality.

25 Aug 2017 17:53:33
BingoRed let's be honest Coutinho doesn't want to be at the club I can't see him playing to the level he did last year despite it being a World Cup year. He's handed in a TR so there is the desire to leave the club yes he's one of our best players but when a better team come after players they usually get their man. Mane and Firmino haven't asked to leave so that's irrelevant.

There will be interest in Mane but I genuinely think he'll stay at the club for many years to come because he is the one player that can take us to the next level imo not Coutinho. We compete by improving other areas of the team, if Coutinho goes which he probably will imo by singing a CB who's better than we currently have, a CM who has the potential to be a world class player (Keita) and someone to add extra depth and quality Ox we're a better team than Coutinho staying and only signing one of those players. I know what I'd rather have and that's having players 100% committed to the club!

25 Aug 2017 18:08:16
Bingo red Coutinho should leave because he isn't 100% committed to the club and won't be again. I feel like we might as well get as much money as we can and te invest in some quality players, Redted is right when he says we'll be stronger for it. I personally would like to see VVD, Keita/ Seri and Ox. Maybe even Lanzini could come in. We lack depth that is my biggest concern so for me sell Coutinho and bring in 3/4.

26 Aug 2017 03:24:59
Let him go and reinvest the money? Have you been living under a rock lfcleon? We can't invest the money we have never mind what ever they want to pay for coutinho, we are a complete shambles of a club, an embarrassment.

25 Aug 2017 10:13:55
A lot of Moreno bashing lately - but he's done done well recently!

I hope we do in the future get another Moreno - the kid is Marlos Moreno!

This kid from South America is going to be a superstar!

Hi Eds,

Was wondering whether it would be possible to increase the number of Banter pages as on days like these when the sites is crowded and there is a lot of traffic even 4 pages aren't enough. As someone who reads every page all the time but rarely posts I sometimes wish we could read back a bit more. Thank you.

Story of my life, bashing too much.

{Ed002's Note - That doesn't surprise me.}

25 Aug 2017 11:34:53
Maybe a criticism page? Since there is a lot of negative Nancy's on here 😂.

25 Aug 2017 18:04:20
I'd be up for a Roasted by Ed002 page. Could advertise the appreciation society as well.

25 Aug 2017 08:43:19
Again and again it's on here about vvd and again Southampton have said he ain't going anywhere so please let's move on its becoming so boring he isn't coming to liverpool fc FACT sorry if negative but we really need to move on from this there won't be a cb coming in this transfer window we all no we need one but Mr klopp and his backroom staff carnt see it strange that or fans and pundits saye we do.

Believable3 Unbelievable7

25 Aug 2017 08:47:26
It's been more than 45 days we are chasing both Keita and VVD. Another 6 more to go unfortunately!

25 Aug 2017 08:57:54
All for nothing aswell!

25 Aug 2017 09:29:42
Well said about vvd marv but think kloppo knows we need cb but if the right one isn't available why buy at all it eould just be a waster of money signing a player for the sake of it.

25 Aug 2017 09:34:32
We've being saying the same about coutinho but a lot are saying we should allow him to leave, difference?

25 Aug 2017 09:36:28
I really hope VVD goes somewhere in this window. To us or not, I can't bear another 3 months of it coming up till January.

25 Aug 2017 08:36:09
Hi eds. Lots of Moreno bashing lately and fully deserved. The lad has plenty of pace and good attitude but no positional sense, rashly dives into tackles when standing is better, exposes his cb's every game, can't cross and never seems to learn from mistakes. My question is, what do you think klopp sees in him to play him ahead of robertson. We all see Moreno as a huge accident waiting to happen but not klopp. why.

Believable2 Unbelievable7

{Ed025's Note - because klopp is all about attack gabriel and has not got a defensive bone in his body, nice to watch but will always be his downfall mate..

25 Aug 2017 08:44:59
Because Robertson isn't up to speed with his fitness levels for how we play, it's why he's been eased in gently.

25 Aug 2017 08:50:03
I have no issues with his " All out philosophy. " If he knows how to execute it! Manchester city aren't the messiah of total football! Another highly entertainers with expensive jackets! Have you ever brought how is Kyle Walker getting a start at City? Honestly I don't know!

25 Aug 2017 08:59:19
It's great to watch and I wouldn't want it any other way. Its Liverpool way let's keep it like that.

25 Aug 2017 09:31:38
Scares the sh*ep out of me watching our red men ;)

25 Aug 2017 09:38:15
So you wouldn't want us winning the league mighty red? Because that ain't happening with that shambles of a defence.

25 Aug 2017 10:07:18
We barely conceeded with Rafa and couldn't win the league so let's not put all the eggs in that basket.

25 Aug 2017 11:14:49
The problem is even at 3 up we look like collapsing every game at about 75 minutes. we need to learn to close a game out.
Also all out attack is great when your forwards are firing. but there will be periods they don't, and if your as brittle as we are then the whole season ends at that point. ie January collapse last year. out of 2 cups and out of title in a 6 week period.

25 Aug 2017 10:24:12
So he the german kevin keegan ed 25 yeah haha.

{Ed025's Note - only without the curly wig hailstones..

25 Aug 2017 07:39:41
A few months back I put a post on here when everyone was ripping Andrew Robertson saying he was a waste of money etc I wrote that he would be a great signing and got some stick, as I previously said Iv seen him go from Scottish 3rd division then straight to Scottish SPL then to hull, im from Scotland and the leagues are crap but he was a standout player throughout his time here. Moreno needs to go and Robertson first choice left back and if we need cover for left back just use Milner he was reliable enough last season, i know he's only had one game but he's played in crap teams till now I think he's going to prove a lot of you wrong, some cross on him aswell no one else think so 😝.

Believable16 Unbelievable2

25 Aug 2017 07:57:16
I said similar mate. As far back as January I recommended him as a great left back. Only left back who was available this summer who i would've preferred was Sead Kolasinac.

Some players just seem to get judged on who they play for and not how they play. To be fair to his detractors, last season was a tough one for Robertson, but you could still see he was the most gifted player in Hulls team. Surrounded by better players, and with attacks with more desire to get on the end of his great crosses, he was always going to take it up a level in my opinion.

25 Aug 2017 07:57:18
Why the bashing on Moreno? I am sorry but Alberto Moreno was simply sensational at Sevilla before moving to
Liverpool. One of the noted offensive full back!
Andrew Robertson is not defensively very sound either! I have seen a few players beating him easily! That entire backline of Liverpool can't defend! Moreno is not the only culprit there! And for Milner he offers nothing upfront! Absolutely NOTHING! I would play myself over Milner!

{Ed025's Note - but would you take the pay cut harry..

25 Aug 2017 08:03:33
That's only real question infront of me Ed025! I would have you over Milner! 😄. Which offensive full back is a great defender! I am curious to know from some elite clas of knowledgeable fans here! 😄😄. Most of the teams have reverted to back 3 or play 1 or 2 CDM to cover this hole.

25 Aug 2017 08:08:24
I'm worried about his defensive side against teams that will attack more than Crystal Palace.

I still believe we could have and should have bought better for a big problem position.

He had a great debut though and I absolutely hope he turns out to be the solution there. Seems like a nice lad too.

Moreno is too costly I agree. The attempt to nick a ball in the second half against hoffenheim when there was absolutely no chance of getting it. And I mean none. A ten year old would have stood him up. He turned a perfectly safe moment into dangerous attack for them. He will never get the defensive side of the game unfortunately. Not even a little.

25 Aug 2017 08:12:35
Moreno is not as good offensively as you think - yes he gets forward well but his final delivery is poor. When was the last decent cross of his someone scored off? His last goal? Robertson had at least two crosses vs CP that should have been converted and few more that looked very dangerous.

And in defence Moreno doesn't cover his man adequately, makes rash challenges/ dives (Uth goal for instance) and is weak in the air. Robertson every time for me.

25 Aug 2017 08:13:14
Give yourselves a pat on the back guys.

25 Aug 2017 08:21:09
I liked lucas digne from Barcelona he ain't getting much game time, he good in the air an is a well balanced left back, but I like Robertson also he gives great balance b good when solanke playin as his delivery great, I honestly think moreno could cover anywhere on left side but strangely in left back position he getting caught out he was originally a winger maybe he better further up pitch as cover.

25 Aug 2017 09:08:40
Moreno has pace and can unleash a good shot, that's about it. His crossing end product is not great and constantly gets caught out of position.

It's a real shame, I think Ed1 mentioned, he's great around the dressing room and works hard.

From what I saw last week, Robertson's crossing was pretty good, time will tell how he works out defensively.

25 Aug 2017 08:55:52
I expect Robbo to be the starter with time, He is just settling in, at the moment.

25 Aug 2017 10:12:24
'Simply sensational' Harry?

25 Aug 2017 10:57:42
I happen to agree with can't defend. I enjoy watching moreno fly down the line. If that happens the our defensive midfielder should cover that area but no one says anything about who should cover that area. Or is he untouchable because he always seem to be out of position that happens. Hence Blaming the wing back.

25 Aug 2017 11:15:16
"He's great around the dressing room" is just too wide open for a mucky comment.

25 Aug 2017 12:39:59
Hector was my choice. Good going forward and reasonably solid defensively. I ve said this before that I'd take reasonably solid for a full back these days. None a great defenders as far as I can see but it is difficult as wings get overloaded with opposition fullbacks. No excuse for some of the stuff moreno does. Pure amatuer hour.

27 Aug 2017 15:17:42
WeCantDefend. Sensational? He Suited Spanish football but he's nowhere near sensational he can't cross he's
Out of position all the time leaves the left back position open constantly, and Milner offers nothing and you'd play yourself over him? Give me peace lol Milner been one of the most consistent wingers in the premier league for years he can deliver a good ball with both feet your just saying that cos he's lost a bit pace, which isn't what it's all about I'm
Afraid to say.

25 Aug 2017 07:30:16
Is Phil still ill?

Believable4 Unbelievable1

25 Aug 2017 07:37:38
Until at least the end of the transfer window, yes.

25 Aug 2017 07:44:41
Phill is ill and Zed is dead.

25 Aug 2017 08:15:43
Give up on this lads. Everyone knows what is going on. He is doing his best to get what has clearly been his dream move for a while.

If he doesn't get it which I hope he doesn't it will do no good whatsoever for fans to start making things worse for him. He is going to feel great disappointment and embarrassment I imagine and I believe as fans we can help him reintegrate quicker with huge support. Rather than cascading him and deepening hurt feelings. It will help no one. Certainly not Phil, certainly not liverpool fc and not even yourself as I'm sure like me you are hoping to see coutinho firing us to titles.

25 Aug 2017 08:36:57
"Who's Zed? "

"Zed's dead, baby. Zed's dead. "

25 Aug 2017 08:58:10
Does his mam ring in sick for him like in school?

25 Aug 2017 08:59:07
Great post, Davey. There is no point making a bad situation worse. He will be distraught to not get his move (not really our fault as Barcelona was trying to screw us with that pathetic bid) . Suarez did way worse than this and we still welcomed him back after he was appropriately dealt with, in-house. We should treat him like a family member who crossed us. We are mad and disappointed with one arm and then, use the other arm to welcome him cos in the end, he is ours.

25 Aug 2017 11:37:03
Yeah I am still in 😅.

25 Aug 2017 17:38:44
He has become a challenge to medical science! They are still trying to find more about the virus! I hope he comes back that front 4 of Phil, Bobby, Mane and Salah would probably win us the league!

25 Aug 2017 05:53:59
Eds what's the situation with Clyne right now? For how long will he be out for? Klopp has not really given any update on his situation.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - he was expected back by now but his return has been put back, thankfully, until after the internationals break.}

25 Aug 2017 07:42:55
Don't think Klopp will put him straight back into the team as he has never been fond of Clyne's game from jump.

25 Aug 2017 05:53:52
My nan was hangin out her bloomers last night when she caught the wiff of something on the wind.

Forget keita and vvd, renato sanches and howedes will be liverpool players before the end of the window.
