hi eds or macca thanks for the hard work.Do you know if seb coates is a good player and do you think andy carroll will score 20 or more goals this season.cheers

I think that having considered your question it is more likely that he will score 46 goals. Amazing! What is the point of that question exactly?

Im not he eds or macca, but yes coates is a good player and yes i think he will if he stays fit.

Chill out, mate! the post is probably written by a 10-year-old... SingRed

Regarding the Bryan Ruiz rumours. Why would we be in for another left footed forward? Surely its a right sided striker we should be looking for.

Ozone

Ruiz is a left footer that plays on the right. he cuts inside and thats how he got alot of his goals.

Think that rules him out then we got downing

Put this on the Manc site, but here's what we're getting with Coates

Coates' CV

2011 Copa America winner

2011 Copa America Young Player of the Tournament

2010/11, 2008/09 Uruguayan Championship winner

2010/11 Uruguayan Championship Player of the Season

2010/11, 2009/10 Uruguayan Championship Defender of the Season

2008/09 Uruguayan Championship Revelation of the Season

If we get this kid for less than 10 mill, this could be our best buy this summer.

Blair Mayne YNWA

Don't forget, they got Jones for 18m. What has Jones won?

Keith YNWA

But United fans would still think Jones is better because he had 2 average season at Blackburn. Both of them are young, but Coates is ready to step up where as Jones isn't, they just need to rely on kids cause their CBs are injury prone. If we get Coates he'll be a bargain along with Enrique.

LFC Eaton

Let's not get carried away lads. We haven't even signed Coates yet and he's not kicked a ball in anger for the club, let's not be hasty with our assumptions. Didn't Le Tallec and Cheyrou win a load of awards before coming? And Jones is obviously a quality player, not as good as the media thinks but still a good young footballer. Respect other clubs and get respect in return

Red Ollie

Seems like their biting!

Poor Ed, doing night shift hoping for a quiet night...

dmedly

To be fair though jones is a quality player but they did pay far to much for him just like us with Henderson although like jones, henderson is a top prospect and will be fantastic in years too come!! Really excited about Coates and intrigued to find out those stats seems like a quality player, good work Blair.

Robo

I think we can't take away from the fact that Jones is a premiership proven quality defender that we also wanted to sign. That being said Coates does look quality and it's nice that he has all these accomplishments at such a young age. Fingers crossed he can hack it in the Premiership cause if he does it could be the bargain of the season.

Can anyone clear up the Coates visa/passport situation? As in how long approx it will take for him to gain what is required? I'm hearing so many different things and don't know which one to believe! I'll trust ed002 the most with what he said, but can anyone confirm this or remove the confusion?! Thanks.

King Kam {Ed002's Note - If he has a Spanish passport then it is straightforward and will take a matter of days. If he has a Uruguayan passport then he has to either apply for a Spanish passport which would probably take a couple of weeks or have an application made to the Home Office for an exemption to being shown the door under the "talant" banner. That could take a few weeks or it could be refused in which case he would have to be loaned out.}

Thanks Ed, appreciate it mate.

Got a strong feeling we will sign two Centre Halves. Remember when we were after Babb or Scales and ended up buying both. This feels the same.

I think if Skrytel does go which is likely, we cannot rely on Cara and Agger alone and the current back ups aren't ready yet so I think it's Coates PLUS one. The problem is Cahill (my preferred) will want a first team berth whereas Dann might be more willing to be back in the Prem and part of a big team rotational set-up (Birmingham in Championship and 3 pts from 9 isn't a great start).
Please post in Rumours, always been bantered so far! Thanks

DavidG

Blues havent had a great start in the championship but only 1 of us are in europe. on a more serious note im surprised that you havent signed dann already. young talented english and cheaper than other prospects. seems to be going to arsenal but he wants liverpool.

Are Sebastion Coates and Luis Suarez related to Dick Emery?

Why? Unless this sort of is considered humour in mancland?

Its a light hearted joke mate, have a look at the vicars teeth in Dick Emery and then Suarez and Coates set. There is a similarilty.

Everyone moaning about the team and the players we have signed should just remember A year ago today: Liverpool closed in on Paul Konchesky and were linked with Carlton Cole.... I think that says it all!

Ed's please post. Can you put me in contact with someone legit that can get me tickets to the Liverpool v Wolves game at Anfield on Sept 24th. And perhaps the away game a week before in London against Spurs. Thanks. Coming from Canada so want this sorted before I make the trip. I appreciate the help. YNWA

Be best if you got lfc membership and applied for tickets, plus the wolves game is nearly sold out so act quick

Bear in mind that it is only 1 ticket per membership card if there is more than one going.

What a fantastic result for Shamrock Rovers tonight against Partizan Belgrade, they put both Celtic and Rangers to shame!

So Eds, what have I missed , anymore confirmed ins/outs?

Rebel_Red

I'm from Meath, Ireland and i am absolutely delighted for shamrock rovers to progress into the group stage of the europa league... looking at it now i'm pleased we didnt make it into europa league ... i think with the youth in our squad now we can really push for the title in 2-3 years :)

League Of Ireland's Istanbul moment. Very proud Irishman.

Best thing for all parties involved would be to create a Magners League type competition with Scottish, Irish & Welsh teams. It would improve the football in all the nations.

-Shane.

Amazing result. Well done!

I remember Wes Hoolihan (Shelbourne was it?) looked really good a few years back v Benfica, he's done well since, now in the EPL.

Any future superstars to look out for in the side? A new Doyle or McCourt maybe?! I hope to catch a few games on RTE if possible!

Great result.

BJH YNWA

With respect Shane, Celtic & Rangers belong somewhere else than that mate. They're both giants, comparable to Lpool, U*d, Arsenal, no danger.

Holy fu#k i come on ere for liverpool cos irish footballs hard on the eyes now yous c@nts are coming on giving it your all about the crapest team in the land Shamrock Rovers i think thats the 3 sign of the apocalypse

Can anyone translate the utter tripe of that last poster? Is that english or martian?
Milamber

No one is asking you to watch Irish football. Irish football has come along way in the last few years and it just reward for them to qualify ahead. No one thinks that Shamrock Rovers are better then Celtic or Ranger (Only because of the money they have tbh) but IMO top irish sides could definitely make there own in Scotland. Derry, Sligo, Pats and SR have alot of quality. Cork city and Shelbourne a few years ago.

Good, Aqualani's off, can we not go on about him anymore now please?

25 Aug 2011 21:57:34
Why would we want Yossi back, another judas who left us for 'a bigger club', dont want Bellemy back either, Christ what are they thinking!!

Yossi left because of Rafa, he even stated it publicly. He was a fantastic player for us so I do not know where your hate for him comes from?

Red4ever

Not sure you can credit yossi as a judas, he was right to leave, he's a top player and rafa kept giving him the cold shoulder, he deserved better, and left because of his boss, it happen's in walks of life everywhere, he didn't get his head turned, he left a club he loved, would welcome him back no problem, he never once insulted the team when he left, his beef was with rafa, the other judas that went to chelsea openly insulted and left for the big time money and succes which he won't find ha

Yossi was forced out by Rafa, he didn't seek a move until Rafa told him he was not part of his plans for the next season. He agreed to go to Chelsea before Rafa left. Had Rafa moved on before Yossi agreed a deal with Chelsea, he probably would have remained a Liverpool player. I for one would probably prefer Bellamy to come off the bench as opposed to N'Gog. But he would demand a huge wage and whether he deserves such a wage is arguable. If a deal can be done which suits Liverpool, I would be fairly pleased.

RedSG

How long have you been supporting Liverpool or keeping tracks of our news?

Yeh of course, Yossi went to Chelsea where he was, and still is, first choice starter for every game. Don't want to see him back. Let him go to West Ham or somewhere.

Bellamy is a smokescreen.
City signed Nasri
Kuyt also has chosen not to leave which has forced kenny into going for another winger rather than a striker(if kuyt was interested in Inter).
Adam Johnson & Coates will sign before 01/09. Dann will be signed in January(Kenny will look to sell Skrtel by January.)
YNWA
YNWA Pirates of the FPL

I can't see Adam Johnson leaving Man City right now. Come January or next summer, when he's realised that he won't get a game with Silva and Nasri running the show, then there is a possibility he could sign.

Aqualani is a good player, but we were never going to see the best of him. Despite an unsuccessful spell at Liverpool, Aqualani deserves credit for his professionalism and respect he showed for Liverpool during his time here.

Yeah he was very respectful while he was faking injuries in training etc..

mooman

What???
You mean someone who moaned about leaving the whole time he was here sponging of the wages we foolishly gave him. Yeah, showed great respect and professionalism. But of course players like Carroll and Henderson who actually want to play to earn their wages are constantly critised whist Aquilani has been praised like a god, what is wrong with some of these so called supporters...

LFC Eaton

Ha yeh ok,never givin a chance he didnt wont to take the chance

ste liverpool

NO...no he doesn't, EVERY SINGLE liverpool fan with a brains knows damn well he did NOT want to play for LFC, so if he acted so wonderfully for us how is it we all knew damn well he would have rather played for a team at the bottom of a cave rather the liverpool fc,
so all this bullshi* talk of him acting in a professional way is garbage, OF COURSE he had a good pre season, it's called a shop window he was playing in,
fernando torres was garbage for us last season, as soon as january comes around he starts playing like the fernando torres we all knew and loved, and then POOF like magic, he's gone, aquilani deserves NONE of our respect, he's a joke, wish liverpool fans would stop giving him such lovely comments, HE should be getting stick, not andy carroll, core blimey ed's, can't you put these aquilani ass kissers right, really starting to get on my nerves

What a talent, what a waste, what a shame

The only thing I'm thankful for Aquilani being in our club is when I finally play FIFA12 and I can sell him for more than 5m...

Manchester City football administrator Brian Marwood has come out and said that Adebayors loan to Tottenham will most likely be the last movement out this transfer window! Tevez, Bellamy etc are expected to stay.

Mario Balotelli
Craig Bellamy
Edin Dzeko
Sergio Aguero
Roque Santa Cruz
Alex Tchuimeni-Nimely
Carlos Tevez

thats the list of forwards on man city's books, where on the pecking order is bellamy,
behind this lot

Mario Balotelli
Edin Dzeko
Sergio Aguero
Roque Santa Cruz
Carlos Tevez
he is 6th in line, and then theres the midfielders who could play an attacking role, nasri, johnson, silva, so he's potentially 9th in line to get 10 minutes on the pitch never mind a game, im sure man city would LOVE him off there books, although his wages are a packet of salt and vingar crisps in terms of money to them,
but it would be very cruel of a team to leave a player who's done nothing wrong to rot on a bench who just want's to play football, so let's think about this, although it's money bags city they have NO reason to hold onto craig or prevent him from leaving, the days of him making a super sub role for city are well and truly over

Fans are fickle, what can I say.

Hodgson was destroyed for sending Aquilani to Italy on loan last season and this season it has happened again. I wonder how may fans who were taking Roy apart for loaning out Aquilani will be willing to do the same thing to Kenny who obviously did not have him in his plans this season otherwise he would have stayed as taking such a loss on the Italian has proven that he has been a waste of money.

Red4ever

Are you 4 real,HE DIDNT WONT TO BE HERE

ste liverpool

Roy got slated for loaning Aquilani out because we were short on central midfielders, that isnt the case now

red fanatic

My memory isn't too great on Hodgson's reign as I've tried to mentally block it out, but Hodgson loaned him when there was no need to. I don't remember Aquilani's agent last summer hawking him out to every Serie A club looking for a transfer or loan.
This summer, his agent has been pimping Aquilani to everyone and it was clear he was looking to move. Had Aquilani shown a genuine desire to stay at the club, I'm sure Kenny would have considered using him.

RedSG

Aquilani wanted to go when Roy was in charge Red4ever mate. I don't know if Roy wanted to keep him. But Aquilani wanted out, no matter who was in charge.

Blair Mayne YNWA

Poulsen , cole , spearing , last year , Adam , Henderson , downing , this year. Some people need to think b4 they type...

Aquilani has been at Liverpool during the time of 3 x seperate Liverpool managers. Each has taken a look at him and thought "Nah".
This would suggest something.
The Real KB

Com'on he left and poulson came in roy made the right move there,
king henry

Blair

All fair and well Aquilani wanted to go at the start of last season which he did, it still does not justify ripping Hodgdson to shreds for a player that did not want to be here last season either. I never wanted Hodgson to be manager myself but those who wanted him to fail made the club fail in the first 6 monts of last season. I got frustrated with Roy but I never jumped onto the bandwagon. There are some fickle fans of note out there.

Hi EDuardo's Please post in Rumours...I've been watching Tchoyi of West Brom and wonder why we haven't gone in for him,his hold up play is excellent,he has skill, can beat a man,put in a cross, score goals, good in the air, brings the ball down well and seems a team player,we could also get him at a good price? Not too sure on his age though...Live4pool Y.N.W.A

I agree don't think we need him but he looks very impressive from end of last season an start of this season, i think him long an odemwingie will be a revalation for w.brom this year...

Hi Ed's

Whith Coates likely to be announced soon, what are the chances of us still signing Dann? We will need an experienced CB should Agger, Skrtel or Carra pick up injuries and what is the situation with Bellamy? I would be very chufffed if he did make a comeback to Anfield as his first time round at LFC was not great but I think it was mainly because of Rafa. Kenny is the kind of manager who will get the best out him even at the age of 32.

All you Carroll and hendo non admirers and transfer fee haters please take note of the following:-
Ferdinand 29.1m
Berbatov 30.75m
Veron 28.1m
Anderson 17.3m
Hargreaves 17m
Carrick 14m

All the above were signed years ago as far back as 2001, so if you think the price we have played for 2 players (that are far better than any of the above) is a rip off, think again.
And for any Mancs reading, take this to your own page with my love.
And for any bitters, imagine being able to afford 1 of them!!!
Ultra Red

Don't forget Robinho for £32.5m.

You are living in a dreamland if you genuinely believe Carroll or Henderson to be better than Ferdinand, Berbatov and even Carrick currently. And no, I'm not a manc.

Ash

I am a liverpool fan before you start but i'm not sure you can put ferdinand on that list, name's on a list like that WILL get you embaressed, his honours list is silly, 5 premier leagues, champions league, 2 league cups but a few, if in 10 years time andy carroll has that on his CV as an LFC player we will have spent smal change on him, the rest of the list i agree with, over rated and over priced, ESPECIALLY berbatov, but you can't ferdinand on that list, your lining yourself up for mancs to tear us as lfc fans apart, think twice next time bud

Adebayor - man city 27million
schevchenko - chelsea 29 million
zhirkov chelsea - 18 million
nicolas anelka - real madrid 23 million
kaka - real madrid 65 million

at least these were given a chance by their own fans though before they failed miserably! even robbie keane has been treated with better regard and we blew 20million on him. shocking

You have to be a manc if you rate Carrick. Ferdinand is a crock who will be lucky to play 20 games this year and Berbatov is a bench warmer who is not even rated by your manager.

Michael Carrick actually cost £18m! Ferdinand certainly has proven worthy of his price tag. When you consider he has been there for close to 10 years, won trophies and had a genuine impact on that team. Had Hargreaves not had injuries he would certainly have proven value for money. The others I agree with.

RedSG

Ash - 'i'm not a Manc'....Bwah ha ha ha ha ha ha. Comedy gold son.
Milamber

Milamber, the "I'm such a great fan my reality has been warped and I believe everything that isn't Liverpool is crap" kid. You only have to look at what Ferdinand and Carrick have won and Berbatov was top goalscorer in the EPL last year. Anyway, shouldn't you be getting your uniform and pencil case ready now mate?

absolutely cannot believe the negativity on this page despite an excellent start to the season imo, where the f**k is the support. if you offered either me on any other Liverpool supporter 4 points from 6 with a tricky away tie at arsenal I would have bit your hand off. it could have easily been maximum if we had converted our chances in the first half against Sunderland, with such excellent pass and movement, combined with hard working efficiency reminiscing the Liverpool of old. if we bag a win against bolton, 7 from 9 is a fantastic platform to build upon for the coming season. The exeter game served as a reminder of our strength in depth and enabled suarez and carroll valuable minutes on the pitch together, with signs of excellent link up play. i don't understand the amount of abuse carroll is getting, he works tirelessly hard and if his heavily debatable disallowed goal against sunderland wasn't chalked off he would be lauded as the next shearer by our small contingent of fickle keyboard warriors who call themselves fans. the same goes for Henderson, i thought he was outstanding v arsenal, not allowing them space to play and straying into danger areas with his superb engine and crisp passing, he is going to be a classy player. Enrique looks like an absolute steal, and has given the back four a look of solidarity, but the crucial element is agger, were a different team without him, his elegance and poise in defence is unheralded and gives us and outlet to build attacks from. Add coates into the equation and possibly bellemy and we have a core of excellent strength in depth, and i personally would be over the moon with the transfer window, especially seeing the recent efficiency at getting rid of el zhar and aquilani, as well as kyro and jovanovich, konk, big wages have left the club, add a couple more before the deadline and we are laughing. lets just get behind our common interest, if we have a split opinion deal with it and move on, don't start slating a fellow supporter who has always had a valid input for a majority of this sites lifetime (jonson6) because he defends a player who's been lacking fitness, started to look good in pre season and had been unlucky to add to his tally, this is the best state, both playing personnel and board we have had for a long time, its not gonna happen overnight but the support of us can only help push our wonderful illustrious team back to the pinnacle of the footballing world where it belongs, and on a side note what fantastic news with the petition pressurising the government to allowall the files to be released after such a derogatory and painful wait for the families, it could have been anyone one of us on that day, now the taunted memories can finally be put to rest. justice for the 96 YNWA

The Aqua situation is an example of the game as we know it today becoming a farce - also Adabayor, Bellamy, Bridge etc. Why cant liverpool just get rid of him on a free and get shot of him rather than have the same situ every transfer window - at least we would get rid of his wage - my opinion of him - from what little we have seen is that he is better than Henderson, Adams, Spearing, Shelvey, Poulsen, Maxi etc............??

I know this is a bit of a tired subject regards Aquilani but I am totally disgusted by this guys behaviour ever since we had the misfortune to sign him. Not once has he said anything about our club. He did nothing but sulk and feign injury while he was with us and between him and his moneysucking agent, we've been done up like a kipper.
Another convenient loan deal for him, another £1m in his back pocket from us to let him go on loan again. Don't get me wrong I'm happy to see the back of him, but this deal will end up making our deal for Kewell look like a bargain and I'm telling you the only reason he didn't play more games for us was because the premier league refused his request to play in a balaclava and black and White striped shirt. Sorry for the rant. Good riddance to glass ankle as the Italians called Aqualani. He's has us off big tine.

Red Heart

Please do not mention Aquilani with Kewell...it is an absolute insult to Harry...he was very injury prone and would always do his best when played and even played when not fully fit which added to his injuries...it is not coincidence that in the 2006 season when he played a large majority of games that we ended up 3rd in the League on 82 points and won the FA Cup...

Aquilani played well in a few pre-season games...

Dear Andy Carrol,
I felt obliged to write this post just incase you might ever visit this website to check out the liverpools fans gossip, opinions and views relating to the mighty LFC.Please ignore all these fools going on about the transfer fee and comparing you to the likes od aguero and villa.I for one think you are quality and to compare you to these players is ludacris, you are a totally different kind of player,we don't even need another player in that mould because we have el pistelero!!You are a proper CF and you work your socks off for the team, knocking balls down to other players and creating so much space for everyone around you.Defenders stick to you like glue, they climb all over you and never does the referee blow the whistle. If you so much as touch a defender the ref blows right away.this is something that unfortunately comes with the reputation so you need to get used to it ;)Your left foot is thunderous and i am sure will earn lfc many goals over the course of your career. You are the big man upfront and give the team a totally different dimension.Keep up the good work lad and don't listen to half the numpties on here.

all the best,
The clown.

-----------------------------------------------

Spot on pal, as daft as it seems I became a bit anxious last night after witnessing his reaction to scoring, it was as if he'd spent the preceding days before the match reading the negativity about him on here and didn't feel it appropriate to celebrate.

The LFC fans denouncing Andy carroll need to have a word. He's a specific type of striker forming part of the LFC jigsaw. He's a quality team player who will chip in with goals. His performance against Arsenal was spot on, working for the team and draining Arsenals centre halfs of energy to pave the way for Luis to go through them like a hot knife through butter. He scored a legitimate goal against Sunderland and bagged last night. What more do you want from the lad?

Ozone

I think his reaction to scoring was Oh well I've scored but I wished I was playing better. Which is a good sign.

Just an idea (one that many people have suggested before)...........
Could you not change the site so we have to register to become a member and have to log in to be able to post?
If it's a matter of cost - there's plenty of free forum software out there.

It will stop the unsigned posts and hopefully a lot of the ridiculous posts/comments that seem to be plaguing the pages these days.

Users can be rated for the accuracy of their info/rumours.

Abusive posters can be warned and banned.

You can set what team you support and can only post to tht page/board (there can be a free-for-all banter thread/page/board to have banter with supporters of other teams.

You will be able to track users and this also helps with getting paid-for advertising and affiliate links.

What do you think ed's?
{Ed002's Note - It gets discussed no and again.}

Unsigned posts stopped? You haven't signed your own. Define abusive on a banter page by the way. It's usually clear when a line has been crossed, but there's certainly degrees of banter that not everyone is comfortable with.

So Aqua is gone.

The talk is that Aqua will join Milan if he plays a certain amount of games (25), which will in turn activate a permanent transfer clause.

Seems a realistic/reasonable enough stipulation after what happened with Juve.

24 games for him next season then, lol.....

Hey ed002, I told you as soon as Pirlo left that Aqua would end up at AC. Also I told you all along that he would never end up at Juve as they never had any intention of paying either the fee or his high wages. They like to swindle! Leopards and spots and all that. lol.

Taiwo and Mexes I had spot on too...

I have my moments.

If he does well there however, I feel Milan will sign him permanently (just a wee joke earlier about the 24 games).

Forza Italia and all that......... Trust me, we may not get totally shafted this time.

Keep up the good work, and ed002 is a true internet football titan.... It's nice to be right all along for once.

Apologies for the gloating nature of my post. I hope no one was offended.

BJH YNWA

(do I get my own page now like this MACCA fellow? lol)

ps. I said we'd never sign Aguero either. What a genius eh! lol. {Ed002's Note - Somehow only one of your posts is found in the archive so nobody can check out your awesome history.}

This place has gone high-tech man! You can check that info on old posts that quickly now! I went away from here for a month or two because the Aguero talk drove me mad during the summer.

I am sad you've forgotten me though ed002...... We used to laugh together once you and I .......

My fiancee has even heard of you. If you ask her 'who is editor number two?' - she'll say - 'oh, he's the guy on the football transfer rumours site'.

Seriously.

I dreamed of us romping through the fields together, our words a harmonious rhapsody of joy.

Editor Number Two. The legend.

You dismissed my post with your trademark scathing sarcasm..... I am outmatched.

Reading, writing and revolution.... the 3 r's you called it.....

Have you forgotten the Berkeley youth we spend together each night in my dreams......

BJH YNWA (all that wanting to be right.... just this once).

I am now a sad BJH YNWA....

ps. If you really don't remember me this post probably seems a bit creepy..... lol. {Ed002's Note - I remember you. I thought there was a court order you took out against me?}

Lol. Take it easy man. Keep up the good work.

BJH YNWA

Hey BJH, it's still a creepy post wether the Ed remembers you or not !

this is straight from a liverpool players mouth my friend washes his go, i know it sounds like a blag but its not.

anyway. this player said he has only seen gerrard twice and hes never even at training. take what you want from this. i think its because his injury is alot worse than most think.

other thing he said was, coates is a replacement for jamie, as jamie has lost pace an is stayin to deep as hes scared to get forward due to lack of pace.

so in my eyes coates will slowly replace jamie this season and skrtel will be back up for agger.

carlos

I meant was his goat, mis typed sorry.

carlos

Utter bollocks! I have seen pics of Gerrard this week at the training ground looking on and watching the players training!

Eds i know your changing it to goat, i like your humor, but it is actually true.

carlos {Ed002's Note - I couldn't resist. Does you buddy wash all of the players goats?}

I don't know if I'm more worried about Stevie or the fact a Liverpool player has a pet goat! I thought Carlos Roa was the only player with a goat anyway?

Ed do you have a goat? Cause if you do his mate can wash it for you :)

This is Carlos again I need to explain myself .... He's been at training only twice that's when he met him he washes his cars not goats (thanks Eds) plus he rekons max 15-20 a season for rest of career ... This is only what he told me no reason to lie!

Aye Carlos but I bet If Stevie wanted his goat washed your mate would do it!

Ed, you can stroke it's beard everyday if you get one :)

Does he refuse to wash his goat? Is he a car washer only who finds washing goats beneath him? Wouldn't trust rumours from anyone with that attitude.

Coates is gonna be one of the best central defenders in the world soon... The boy is awsome, i have watched him many times including the copa America and trust me he is the real deal... Cross between Hypia and Hansen.

But does he own a goat?

How many goats did we give them for him?

Can he bring the goat on a pet passport?

Jonson6, you've obviously played at a good level pal, I wasn't quite that good but I was on Birmingham Citys books 1981-1984 as a teenager when Ron Saunders was manager, Noel Blake, Mark Dennis, Pat Van den Hauwe, Tony Coton etc were there in the first team. Unfortunatley, I broke my ankle and then found alcohol and woman, which did me no favours but I did the semi-pro circuit for a while in the 90's before packing up altogether in 2003.

I've been reading alot of your posts over the past few weeks and couldn't agree more about Carroll. I think its difficult to convince other posters as to the job he's doing and the qualities he has in his locker. Carrolls a bit of a tub of Bovril, you either love him or hate him. Nevertheless, he plays for us and all LFC fans should be getting behind the lad. If some of the posters can't see the job he did for the team against Arsenal, then they need to go back to taking the kids to the bowling alley for a day out instead of watching football.

There seems to be a strong reaction to the Aquillani loan move.
Did he want to go or didn't he?
Was he good enough or wasn't he?
It does not matter. He is no longer part of the squad for this season and probably for ever.
We paid over the odds for him in the first place and he is the biggest example of money wasted by the club.
The new owners and management team inherited several problems related to the squad and the finances. These are being sorted out and the squad has improved. Every day at Melwood the players must realise the less talented and committed players are being moved on.
If you add this to the rumoured signings then I am considerably happier and more optimistic than this time last year.
We have a good group of players and plenty of options when picking the team and formation. We need to support the players that are playing for us, especially those who have not made an instant impact.
Strange things happen in football. The king is back and I believe in fairytale endings.

Hey guys, I was wondering many people say it's key to get a champions league spot which o agree with, I also think we should really be trying to win the FA cup and carling cup which it does look like the king is doing. Would be great for morale of the team and also it would get us some more silverware!

25 Aug 2011 19:28:15
I think if Bellamy signs we could see him replacing Kuyt on the wing. KK played Henderson there already in place of Kuyt. Besides, most people see Kuyt as an out & out striker. Plus Bellamy can play on the left & he would be switching wings with Downing through out 90 minutes.
SLODGE

It could also see us play a variation of 4-3-3 if one of Suarez or Carroll get injured with downing and bellamy on the wings and Suarez or Carroll in the middle. It would help squad depth and quality.

well carroll looks a bit bambi-ish at the minute, but he is a monster-keep the beard! henderson looks alright too, i think . enrique is the one i thought looked weakest of the new players but he has been brilliant. suarez is amazing ,the attacking choices are great for Kenny, loads of depth around the park actually.we have a really good crop of youth/reserve players ,the coates signing is a real coup and lucas is great now . we have Dalglish. happy days.

Ah ,so i have to sign at the bottom of the the actual post, sorry

Firstly you failed to sign the post while having a moan and secondly the "but it is banter..." post was not sent by me. Mind you it's quite flattering that someone wants to pretend to be me, saddo!
Is there anything you can do to stop people signing their post as someone else Ed?

Skurks re: Bellamy

Sorry for replying like this but on the mobile site and can't use the reply button.

As one of those to have expressed concerns about CB, I thought I'd have a go at answering you

The 3 players you highlight are all a lot younger than CB, and in the case of AC his time in the Champ was a key stage in his development, as it was probably for JE + CA, albeit to a lesser degree. The real issue for me about CB is the fact that he played in the Champ at such a 'ripe old age' by todays standards. I have no issue with us signing players from lower leagues whatsover and wish more English PL clubs looked to the riches "below" them rather than coveting continental players many of whom are no more talented. In his playing days at LFC KD played alongside chaps signed from non-league clubs after all :-)

Having see CB play a few times last year the main recollection is one of incredible inconsistency. At times he was clearly a cut above, other times average and frequently marginally interested - and too often beset by niggly little injuries - indications to me that he is past his prime. He's no use as a back up if no-one has confidence in his hamstrings. My view has mellowed a little since Macca's original post, but I remain sceptical.

Dawkins

No mate i were'nt having a go i agree bellamy is past his prime and i would'nt consider signing him myself, just few people now branding players from leagues below in saying there not good enough an i just think to myself most british talent unearths from lower leagues so was just stupid saying we should'nt look to lower leagues for players!

25 Aug 2011 19:09:46
i for one would welcome certain players coming back, players that did'nt heap more on to the bad situ but went with dignity, even if certain players are of a certain age,we know from past experiance it can help develop not just the yuguns but also the team as a whole,i thought bellamy was a funny foker, but maybe jay will have a different opinion, anyways we're gonna hurt some prides this year and the next to come.big love to my fellow reds.kyb.

I am wondering what people think of Adam Morgan? If for some reason we don't sign a striker this window, do you people think he can make it as the 4th choice striker?? I understand that he might be too young presently but I think he can make the grade.

VM YNWA

I think we should get bellamy for 1-2 seasons then Morgan will then be older and have also learnt from Bellamy some new tricks (hopefully not to do with golf though) and it would help Morgan ease into the team.
Zac10

I know what you mean, but he would only be siting on the bench.he needs to be playing games at his age

Hi eds!
Rgdg bellamy, i'm not quite sure abt his return but I suppose hvg him on loan for a season as a backup striker isn't half bad- provided we dun hafta pay his full 90k-plus a mth wages in full, he stays healthy n he doesn't do smthg disruptive.
Rgdg coates- I watched some videos of him. The way he plays reminds me a bit of sami hyypia. Except I dun think hyypia was that gd at age 20. I really hope we get him. He could b a world-beater in a couple of years.

Jonson6 I respect that fully mate! I personally can't stand all this negativity either, but mate there will always be moaners regardless of what anyone does, but I hope the Eds start to filter it out!

I also fully agree with the comments regarding unsigned posts and I genuinely believe signing posts should be mandatory on this site, and I'd certainly advise any person who reads this to ignore / scroll past any unsigned post, because in my opinion if you feel so 'strongly' about a topic, whether it be a player or a team selection, then you should be proud of your opinion and WANT to sign it.
If you feel so strongly about your opinion sign your posts, because if you can give criticism, you should be man enough (or woman) to receive it too!

No hard feelings at all jonson6, after all this page is called banter, and the most important thing is we both support the best club in the world!

thanks all,
YNWA!

Hooch.

P. S. John wigan, Turner is fine, thank you for asking! ;) haha!

Firstly, might I mention great site and hard work from all eds and most posters. For those fans who keep complaining about the players we have bought this season, don't worry, we have bought hard working footballers not money grabbing Init for the money player like city and chelsea. Steve Clarke and kk have mentioned top4 is the target but I have that much faith I have put £50 on LFC to win prem at 11/1. We already played a top 4 team and got 3 points and our bogie team sunderland out of the way too!

Hi ed,

My first post on this site although i have been reading the post all summer and it has kept me entertained. I know we have done really well in the thransfer market but feel what we are missing is a holding midfielder...is there any we are liked with or likely to sign before D day?

I know Lucas has done really well last year but feel he just does not have the passing range or right aggression. Do you think he plans to play Gerrard in this role instead.

Loz
YNWA {Ed002's Note - I don't think a holding midfield player is on the cards right now.}

LFC FAN {Ed002's Note - I assume this is a joke post or you simply do not understand the transfer process. What long hold up? You do realise he was on a different continent this morning? }

Bellamy will be a superb addition to the squad. The guy is a fighter, has balls and gives 100% every match and gets under the skin of loads of players - terry and ferdinand for example. He's a guy players hate to play against and has a dogged mentality.
Anyone who thinks he's not good enough, take a good look at this goal

gutted we missed out on mata if he was a true target and pereira

cheers {Ed002's Note - Liverpool will be challenging for the European places and I imagine the Champions League is the objective.}

WTF are you on about? If you can't see the quality that is now in the squad then i suggest you start following a different sport, maybe beach volleyball? You clearly don't know funk all about football and what qualities are needed to create a well balanced and flexible squad.May i suggest sir that you are a tool and that your posts may very well be better recieved back on the manc pages where a charlatan like yourself truly belongs.

Ed, could you please tell me the objective of this post? The quality of the posts over the summer are obviously not good enough to compete with Man city or Man utd fans... etc, etc, etc, etc... blah blah... ZZZZzzzzz

For what we needed, Mata wasn't the right player. He is a good player, but isn't a winger who hugs the touchline (a la Downing) and isn't the fastest of wingers. Downing was perfect as he has a lot of pace and can whip the ball into the box for players such as Carroll.

I think we have got a better player in Enrique for 9m, than the overpriced Pereira, who Chelsea have had a bid rejected for 16m. Enrique has already shown himself to be a great by in his performances against Sunderland and Arsenal.

Hope all the Aquilani lovers will shut up now.

Never seen the point in the Aqua lovers, sure he had quality's but if he wanted to go because he was not happy here what's the point in pleading for him to stay but with any luck we'll keep meireles now, he links up with suarez very well they both bring exciting football back to LFC especially in the arsenal game

MJ

The point being is we need more quality match winners in the team/squad. This is the prime reason why Fergie's team have swept all before them.

He has consistently put more matchwinners on the pitch than anyone else.

"Fergie" puts players on the pitch who want to play for the team. He rejects those who put themselves above the team (ie:Berbatov, Beckham). Aquilani cares for nobody but Aquilani. To suggest Fergusson would accept his selfishness, laziness and lack of courage is to completely misunderstand the ethos that has made mufc successful. Even ronaldo was required to put in a shift.

To the continuous Whiners and Whingers out there, Newsd
Ay magazine has written an article about the best Baseball team owners. And probably for you guys it will come as quite a surprise that ours have been voted the best in baseball. It says they have developed Fenway Park into a Jewel of a ground compared to what it was and have developed incredible marketing strategies. They have also invested heavily in their team to make it successful and breaking the Curse of the bambino.

I am sure they will break our own twenty plus year curse if given the time and the support and the trust of the fans. So i say to you whiners and whingers, jump on the LFC rollercoaster becuase the next few years are going to be a hell of a ride.

Orrin

They will be on that rollercoaster until the next time we hit a dodgy patch and then its a coin toss to see which team they now support who are in the top four.

To Ash, I'm not too sure you know how inflation works mate, crouch might have been cheaper, but he was older, less effective, before the market went boom and as somebody else said,he didn't score for 18(I think) games in a row! That's half a prem season for all you stato's! Worth more or not,I'd kenny paid 35 million for him,and you wouldn't,maybe that means kenny has plans you don't? Crouch never as effective as AC anyday! Let's just hope seb coates dosnt see all the shi*e you lot post about the younger players who don't make the biggest impression! Go support city if you want superstars,we are building..... P.s,on mobile web that's why I cannot reply directly!). WelshBoyDave

At 7 mil, Coates can take his time. He is already a champion btw. Unfortunately for AC, he cost us a fortune and whilst I'll give you the fact we signed crouch before the market went boom, I think £35 mil for a player with (then) half a season in the prem is far too big a fee even with the inflation taken into account. Go support City? I am as loyal as anyone to Liverpool, but I'm not blind with it. Having your own opinion does not detract from ones loyalty. I never rated Carroll that highly before he came to Liverpool and I don't now.

Peoples who slates price tag,
Do u think who much the Caroll, Henderson, Suarez, Adam, Enrique and Downing.
For me Suarez could have worth 40 million, Caroll worth 25 million when we signed them.
Henderson price tag was due to his young age. Adam and Enrique were Bargains. While Downing's price tag due to Manchester United. He has been better players than Ashley Young and had two year left in his Contract.

I've just finished watching the Arsenal game again which I recorded on LFC TV the other day, and I don't know where all this Carroll and Henerson ripping is coming from. Carroll was strong, so was Henderson. Both had decent games.

Either these people who are slating the lads don't know anything about football, or they live in Fifa 12 land of the blind. Carroll was strong brought the ball down, laid it off, had a couple of chances and looked good considering it's the second game of the season. Henderson made some good little runs, received and passed the ball well. What are some of you on about?

On a side note though. One thing that made me laugh was before the secong half kick off. Adam, Carroll and Downing are all stood having a rant when everybody's coming out onto the pitch, and you can lip read that Carroll and Adam are telling Downing something about that Frimpong. Looks like Frimpong was gobsh**ing to Carroll about something and you can see that he told him to f**k you. If any of you's have got it recorded, get onto it. It's Straight after the second half coverage starts.

All in all, again a good performance not only from Carroll, but Henderson and the rest of our lads last night. But Suarez is the man. Fair enough, it was against Exeter, but never the less, a solid display. Shame about the peno but Skrtel's just coming back from injury and was looking tired, you can forgive for the lazy challenge.

Nice article in the Independant the other day about Sebastain Coates. The one line that stood out in it was the one about "Twice the player as Jones for half the price" Love it. Anyway lads, sorry about the long winded one, but I haven't posted for for a while so I though I'd throw my ten bob's worth on the page.

All in all, it's looking good this season, and I think Bellamy would be a nice little back up if the deal can be done. Same goes for Benayoun. Not been this excited about a season for a good few years. MAde up.

Anyway, Lets be positive about this season because the way Kenny has done his business is something to be applauded. It's not all about Super star names coming for the brass, it's about quietly classy, solid players who give our team what it's been lacking for a while, and options from the bench to boot.

How can some of you be nagative about any of it?

Cheers.

Scott78.

Nice post mate, suarez would not have got his goal against exeter if carrol wasn't on the pitch, did you see how much space he had?? Their defence was watching the big man and let the little man go unmarked,QUALITY!!!!

The clown

Some of the posts I've read about Carroll and Henderson over the past few weeks have nearly made my eyes blead. almost had little tears of blood rolling down my face from some of the stupidity thats been on show on here.

Your spot on clown mate. A lot of Carroll's work goes unnoticed. What a left peg too. I'm 100% sure the lad will only get better and better as he gets fitter. I reckon it'll soon just start to click for the kiddy, and he'll be back in a run of goal scoring form. Then defences are in trouble (again).

These fickle fans'll be all over him like a forensic paper suit when it happens too. Defo.

Scott78.

I've watched it 3 or 4 times and its a master class, the more you watch it the more you get excited as to whats happening at LFC. How any LFC fan can be negative just now is beyond me.

You are the big man upfront and give the team a totally different dimension.Keep up the good work lad and don't listen to half the numpties on here.

all the best,
The clown.

I gave up reading the banter section a while ago because it got right out of control size-wise.. Nice to see some sensible posters had more stamina mate, seconded.

Napoli and City to go through

Man City will do well just getting through to the next stage with that group. That's the group to watch, I can't see a bad game there - unless Mancini goes ultra-defensive.

I can't see man city winning home or away against bayern, and away against villareal. Mancini is too defensive.

The Real KB once mate suprisingly enough and that was for moaning like feck. Just a note, because of James Beatties aerial ability i played centre half against him which i was when i was on school boy forms at North End. Sam Allerdyce(i know he along with Moyes and Kilbane, three unpopular characters on this site) and converted me to a centre forward. But always played centre back against J.B and we had some great battles. If anyone thinks i'm bulls**tin fair enough. But my nick name at PNE was Tiny. Kevin Kilbane who i also went to school with told me that after they heard the North End players calling me that,Alan Irvine who was Blackburn's youth team coach told K.Kilbane, whom i've kept in touch with and went to watch him now and again when he was at Wigan. that they started calling Martin Taylor, the guy who broke Eduerdo's leg, the same nickname which i belive has stuck to this day. I'll get my mate to e mail a photo of me playing against a top top player,by far the best i ever played against aint gonna say till he's done it because it wont be belived if i post it here. I dont think i know it all,or i'd be winding down on a pro career now,i just would like if their is gonna be any s**t given to the players to be more constructive then simply going on about price tags that the players dont have a say in. I don't think you're BSing by the way.

Why aren't Liverpool trying to sign Gago who is attarcting interest from Man City?

Also what about Raul Albiol?

Because Kenny doesn't want him?

Come on, you could have answered that question yourself, surely?

I think you should take that issue up with Kenny.... I'm sure he'd be more than willing to hear your views....

RedSG

Gago is a good talent. Kenny needs to take a few risks now towards the close of the window.

Get rid of Skertel as well and bring in Dann and Cahill.

Gago could be the next Javier Masch

Sure, and we all want another Masch potato.

I wouldnt mind another masch

Here's a thought...

We brought these players (Big Andy, Hendo ect.) to the club on a contract, for 3, 4, 5 years so how about we judge their worth at the end of their contracts not a few games into it.

Sick of the glory supporters on here only supporting players when their playing well or only supporting certain types of players, flair players ie Suarez. Liverpool have a few amazing individuals who have established themselves here, others may take a little bit longer but because they play for LFC we support them no matter what, through thick and thin, through good times and the not so good times. At liverpool we support the team NOT the individual!

Sorry about the rant but sick of reading posts slagging off our players.

ED, do you think we could be considering Montolivo at Fiorentina? he is certainly for sale (to a foreign club only) and in the last year of his contract. If we are looking for invention and creativity he certainy wouldn't be a bad option? EL P {Ed002's Note - I don't know of any interest.}

Fair comment Hooch, but while people still bang on about Carroll mate, i'll still bang on about replying to them. Like Blair has said about Chris from Tamworth, he's been the only poster since i can remember anyhow who said he didn't and doesn't rate Carroll. Which is fair enough he said it from the start. Its just the no names who dont just have a go at him, but he's the main target but other players as well. If i took it too far i appologise (spelling). But whilst we are doing so well and were building a squad capable first and for most of challenging for the top 3 min, it just pisses me off to see so much negativity around. I really cannot get my head round why it should be this way. Jonson6

He is confident, strong, has gained so much respect off of the fans after initial problems. I think the lad is good and I think if you watch him, he controls the game well. He had a big task on his hands after Mascherano left, but he has done brilliantly to fill the void, don't slate a good player.

Ed all of a sudden it's like a battle between the regulars of this site that sign their names against all the so called fans that slag their own players and don't sign their posts !!! I know which side I'm on !!! Just don't reply my friends !!! Then they won't get a thrill out of it and they'll stop posting !!!
Thanks,

I really think we need to start doing this because even though it's not everyone who signs their name supports AC and JH but at least they give a half decent argument why they are saying that (Chris in Tamworth comes to mind). Its nice to say a few words on the "Dig at Carroll and Henderson site" - I agree with many that they really are vastly overpriced at 55 million.

Listen Fernando, there's no point coming on here trying to deflect from the fact that you've turned into a Franny Jeffers impersonator.

Then why dont you go and support someone else ??? we dont need supporters who dont support....end of!

Yes. Agree fully. Some posters still love and adore the Houllier & Rafa carp that has been bought over the years and defend them to the hills. Common, they were LFC players, who cares if we haven't won the league in 20 years and have fallen off our pedestal. Lets not wake-up and get ruthless, let's let the Manc's keep pushing us further down.

Oh wait, and yes, lets make up a catchy nickname. Cause that also makes u a better fan.

Some 'fans' here continuously moan about the 35m paid for Carroll and the supposedly 20m for Henderson. How come they always fail to mention the excellent business done by the club in 22m for Suarez, 7m for Adam, 6m for Enrique ?? Fact is most people here only look at negative side of things rather than the positive ones. The amount of negativity here when we have just beaten Arsenal away after 11 years is incredible.

It was the same with Lucas, and I recall Ed002 once saying that some of our fans will always maintain one 'figure of hate'(well two in this case). No surprise in the way that Carroll reacted after his goal last night. Its just the same after every game, whether its a friendly defeat, a home draw or a away win to a side after 11 years. 'Fans' would just moan and whinge and slate our own players. Its just 3 games into the season people, give them some time to settle and gel with other players and our style of play. How will they be able to perform well if they are gonna get slated time and again by their own fans? We Liverpool fans are known for supporting our players through thick and thin. Keep the Faith.

VM YNWA

You see the diff is that even with the likes of: Gibson, Fletcher, Ander(MaccieD)son, O'Shea, Evans etc etc they still win things. So even though the Manc's know some of there players are carp, leats they win. Its been how many years and for God sake, we still debating if we can win a EPL title with Kuyt & Lucas as starters? No wonder they laugh at us.

25 Aug 2011 15:40:05
Say what you want with the money spent on Carroll. At the end of the day we swapped Torres and Babel for Carroll and Suarez. On current form we got the better deal. We recouped what we spent so I don't see what the big argument on the cost of Carroll. We have only actually spent money this transfer window and in my humble opinion I think we spent pretty good. Hendo is one for the future, Adam was almost premiership player of the season, Downing was Aston Villas player of the season, Doni was Roma's first choice keeper and Jose Enrique looks to be a great steal. As many people have said already on here, its not about the first 11 its about a squad and its looks like a fine sqaud to me.

Lets get over the cost of players and get behind the team.

Gazza

I agree about giving Carroll the time he needs and to get off his back but the whole Carroll and Suarez = Torres and Babel equation is a bit inaccurate. This is a good deal in and of itself but if could have been far better. We ripped Chelsea off and then got ripped off ourself. Surely it would have been better to rip Chelsea off and then buy players at their fair market value? It could just have easily have been (roughly speaking) Suarez + Aguero or Suarez + Mata + Turan. Carroll was bought for silly money and he'll just have to live with those expectations. Hopefully the fans will help him with that.

Carrol has also scored more goals for us than Torres has scored for Chelsea since the switch. The carrol fee was high, but as mentioned, not his fault. we'll see what happens.

Seth

How could it have been Suarez + Aguero. If you take what they cost plus wages over the 5 years Aguero comes to 103 million , Carrol comes to 55 million. Please when putting ridiculous claims on look at the bigger picture!
John Wigan

Doni was not first choice. He is passed his best and had fallen down the pecking order at Roma. But still a decent b/u keeper I guess.

Just saying, get your facts right.

John Wigan - It could have been Suarez and Aguero in terms of how much there transfer fees were...... The point was it could have been any number of players who're better value or better quality than Carroll, rather than overpaying for Andy just because we came into a bit of money. Think you need a new calculator btw, Aguero on almost 260k a week? lol

25 Aug 2011 15:30:14
Instead of calling this liverpool banter, why don't we call it have a dig at carroll and henderson, its becoming a joke at this stage, get over it lads, I know the transfer fees are high but thats not their fault, they've only played a handful of games and people are already havin a go, ln my opinion they are 2 very good players with youth on their side. Its only the start of the season everyone should be excited, that's how I feel anyway, give the lads time and then judge, saying that I'd say most of the moaning is probably not from liverpool fans.

25 Aug 2011 15:29:34
I am really struggling to read some post of late, I have been reading and posting for a number of years on this site and the negativity towards our own has never been this bad. The only people that really make sense are the original posters one example is Blair. The site is open to opinion and it is opinions that's makes football However when people think their opinion is the bee's they need to wind their neck in and think before slagging people off. Jonson6 gets a lot of slack of some fans, but all he is doing is supporting the team and the players involved at the club. We should be supporting the players who are struggling and not giving them abuse. People talk about price tags, it is swings and rounder bouts for example Enrique 6 million bargain, Suarez 23 million bargain. Some transfers are hit and miss, but after 3 games come on we should not be judging our own at this early stage... If we make the top 4 it is a collective success between the squad and backroom staff not just one player! Henderson and Carroll are getting some stick already and it is pathetic, we talk about his price what about the young lad who went to arsenal Chamberlain was his fee around 15 million. To sum up we as fans need to back each and everyone who puts that red shirt on, yes some might not be up to the slandered but we need to give them a chance and get behind them. Not giving them stick and putting more pressure on them to try and perform, that old saying "he's trying to hard" to get the best football they need to be relaxed and enjoy every minute on the field. You can see it in Suarez, he loves it out there and he plays like a school boy who enjoys what he does. The likes of Carroll and Henderson are playing like they have a weight on there shoulders and a massive burden to prove to the fans they are good enough. In my humble opinion I think the squad Kenny is assembling will be one of our best since the turn of the 90's which wont be hard. We just need to back the struggling and they will return the faith as we seen in Lucas.

James Mc

That's bang on mate.

Ye Ozone played at a pretty good level myself mate, played against a few top players. Was a YTS with PNE and then a first year pro before i was released, the Everton manager now was the club captain. I'll get a hundred disagrees but its true. It was when it was A and B teams. In the 93/94 season we won the league B team division,we couldn't afford an A team for Preston. The B team was more or less the youth team except for 2 over age players being allowed to play Scored against us,Liverpool, and David Thomson scored a screamer to make it 2-2.Check your programmes from that season and the and the season after when Liverpool played PNE and you'll find a scorer with a first name that starts with John and my surname starts with Cal Ed001,if your about,Ian Brunskill the centre back was ment to be the next big thing at around that time, what ever happened to him, i'm sure Phil Neville and he were the England Schoolboy centre halves back then ? Scored at Old Trafford in a 5-1 drubbing we took, was when one of the stands was being redeveloped we took but i was happy to bag their in the Lancashire youth cup, Pilkinton was in goal,Phil Neville played right back. Played and scored at Maine Rd for the youth team, Kevin Kilbane, the ex Everton player of course crossed it for me to finish on my left peg,Michael Brown played in that game and a guy Crook was an up and comer for them who made it to the first team for a short while. Had some great battles with James Beattie when he started at Blackburn. Played against Mark Bright against Sheffield Wednesday,Dan Petrescu in the same game in the reserves,Niall Quinn and Mike Shearon against City reserves could go on about some of the international players i've played against, call me a bull s**tter but i'd like to know how many of them rippin me and my lack of football know how.How many international players you've played against, the reserve league was called the pontins league then. Utd and Liverpool wasn't in it but City defo where. It was when all or most of the reserve teams played at their home ground. Look in the Rothman football year book of 95/96 after i'd been taken on as a pro was my position, centre forward, wont be hard to find for any disbelivers, already told ya most of my name. So i do know a little bit about the game. Prob wont go up but i aint a novice and i do know a thing or 2 about a thing or 2 when it comes to footy. Not just been sat on my asse contary to what some posters think. Jonson6

Bro relax I for one belive you and enjoy reading your posts....even if I do disagree sometimes with the language you use...but seeing as you were a professional footballer its understandable!! Anyways what are you up to nowadays??

Jonson6 mate I never thought you didn't know about the game in fact it's obvious from a lot of your posts that your understanding of the game is pretty good. However I don't think the fact that you've played the game at a decent level is the reason for your knowledge. In fact the people I have met who seem to know the least about football or other sports are ex professionals of those sports.

Nice post Jonson6.....Chris in Tamworth common your last sentence lets it down somewhat. I have met lots of people who I think talk rubbish about football but it's all relative.

I can understand why some fans are questioning Bellamy's attitude. But players like him needs a strong manager; who can love and praise them, and when needed can also stand up and criticize them. Kenny is the best person in the league at man-management. And throughout his career Bellamy has been managed and handled by poor managers (Managers who are not good at dealing with a single player). I think both Rafa and Mancini treated Bellamy really harshly. But look when Hughes was in City, and when Bellamy went to Cardiff last year he didn't cause any trouble whatsoever. Kenny knows what he's doing, he can inspire players to play for the Red shirts and Bellamy is a very passionate person. I am sure King Kenny can bring the best out of Bellamy. And having a quality player like him for a season wouldn't hurt anybody.

Jack D.

Sure. It doesnt matter that he is a nutcase a##hole with a huge ego just like Joey who will disrupt Kenny's "all for the cause strategy". Makes sense too me.

25 Aug 2011 14:56:16
Picture the scene there's 20 minutes to go in a tight encounter between Utd and the redmen, it's 0-0 and we need three points to nick the premiership title of Utd KK looks to the bench for the man to create the chance or score the goal that makes us equal on 19 all. Who would you prefer KK had to call on Ngog or Bellamy? It's Bellamy everytime for me.

Someone said this to me the other day in a different scenario. Who would you rather have in your fantasy football team? N'Gog or Bellamy??? If it was just out of them two all day Bellamy.

Fowler's left peg

How about neither?? Both are not worthy!!

Luckily in fantasy football we don't have to choose either player as they both toss.

People are entitled to their opinion. Carroll is not worth 35 mill and Henderson is not worth 20 mill. That is 55 mill. Many supporters are just voicing their opinions and stating that we could have spent this money more wisely, thats all, calm down, its only banter.

Henderson didn't even cost £20m. That's not banter, it's a fact.

So who would you spend the money on (given el sulk left us high and dry on the eve of the Jan transfer window + no CL football)? SingRed

Firstly, 55 million is not an accurate figure as the eds have said
Secondly, if you and your fellow chums who don't rate the 2 players had the cash, who would you have more wisely bought?
Thirdly, banter is justified, slating is not.
Fourthly, I just wanted to prove I could count to four.
Ultra Red

So who are these players that wanted to join us and how much would your choices cost. Ferguson wanted Hendo. We needed a striker on the last day of the Jan window after Judas screwed us. Spudz bid 30M for Carroll then too so that's what the market was dictating. Hendo was 16M btw. Neme the players we should have brought in and put your name to your posts if you want banter.

Chi-Paul

Before you start slagging players like Carroll and Henderson off lets wait until the end of the season to see what they do. £ games into the season and people are already ready moaning for f*** sake!!! Remember last season? Near bottom of table and out of the Carling Cup. This season a good start and still in the cup. What the hell do people expect. If you don't like Liverpool Fc, Then GO AWAY and support someone else

Saurez cost 23M, now worth 60M
Carroll cost 35M, would fetch 25-30M
Adam 7M, would fetch 10M
Henderson cost 16M, would fetch 12-14M
Enrique cost 5M, worth 10-12M
Downing cost 20M, worth 16-18M

106M spent. Value of these players would be roughly 135M. All young players in their prime. Their salaries is the best part as they all have 4-5 year deals with no one over 70K a week. That's good business.

Chi-Paul

Everyone knows that Andy Carroll was the last choice we had for a big forward.....deal with it, kenny was flustered and needed someone in, its a mistake.....oh no i said KK made a mistake.....goodison park here i come.

How is slagging off your new players banter?

Is Torres worth 50 million dont think so more like 20 million!!! So if We had sold Torres for 20 million paid 8million for Suarez and 12 million for Carroll would you be moaniong???? probably because that all you seem to do!! 3 Games in unbeaten and your moaning!! dread the day we lose a game!!!

Runcorn Red!

Guys there is no harm in voicing any opinion, even if it is against any decision or purchase KK has made but its the reasoning behind such opinions that is really annoying some of the regular posters....AC and Jordan Henderson need to be given time to settle into the new team and also it has only been three games it is impossible to judge whether they will be good or bad signings at such an early stage. I for one think the season has started off fairly well with everyone doing there bit. Liverpool to win the league!!
Killerpool

Give andy and the other new faces a f#%*ing minute to settle ,i have been supporting L.F.C since 1974 , needless to say i have seen the gl;ory days and the some of the most depressing days of the mighty reds history, lets see how the season plays out before slagging OUR players, and who gives a f@*K about the money kk has spent ,when we win the leage and some silver u wont complain then, kingkennykop7

Finesse, how do you know their long and boring if you dont read em ha ha? What, have i had a go at one of your own unsigned posts before because i've certainly not seen Finesse on here before. I'm not one for pullin people on grammer and spelling but its Jonson not Johnson mate. Ta ta.Jonson6

Dont worry jonson I had the same thing about a post I had written.
He obviously didnt read it as he just put Boring and the likes and said super fans with your after match analysis are stupid.
It had nothing to do with the match it just used points from that game to show my theory.
Finesse, taffy tel all these new posters come on here and just tear at well thought out intelligent posts with idiotic ones.

Tell me how you can post something intellectual in one sentence using proper grammar and words not txt speak.

Never mind kk starting alongside ac in our next match he would definately do a job on the right instead of hendo, absolutely useless, and 20m at that - ask any sunderland fan.

I've lived in the North East for a lot of my life and know a lot of Mackems. Trust me, the vast majority rate Hendo. He'll come good

how can ppl whant bellemy i dont get he is a champion ship team when did he last start the bench never mind the team 4 city only a real reds fan would understand

Good to see that even those who have yet to start primary school are posting on here.

I think Bellamy is a great player, he is quick, got great feet, good cross, and he has a good shot. Not only that, but he is a strong lad. Yes he will be aggressive and will wind some people up, but thats his character. He is 32, he never thought he would get a chance like this again. If the deal goes through, do you think he is going to throw that chance away? I'm sticking up for bellamy here, i hope we get him.

25 Aug 2011 13:39:31
I said it before and i'll say it again. I dont think Hendo was worth the £20M. He looks alright at best but for that money, we should be seen better. But you never know, in Lucas 1st & 2nd season i didnt rate him at all, i think he's a better player now but not world class. And oul Flanno bit worried by him. The past two games he played he had a stinker.

Everyone is going to use the same oul thing he's only a young fella. Players either have it or dont at that age. If he keeps it up wouldn't suprise me if hes playing in the lower leagues in a few years.

Barry B

Yes ofcourse Hendo wasn't worth 20 mil. He was 16, sixteen million.

I really wish people would stop going on about money, and stop correcting people about 20 million or 16 million, both a ridiculous prices of money anyway....why is one man worth that much...thats football for ya.

Henderson is 21.....21 years of age....did you expect him to come in and be amazing? Do you remember Frank Lampard when he was 21? I certainly do not. KK has bought him at such a young age, do you not think he will get better and better at Liverpool...rather than at Sunderland? He is very young, he has joined a new team.....which unlike everyone believes takes a hell of a long time to jel together, just because the proffesional doesnt mean there just going to click all of a sudden.

Give the lad a chance and let him prove you wrong. He left his boyhood team to come to us, and he can only prosper in my opinion.

scousetoby

So you've said it before, do you have to keep on repeating it? Do I have to believe or agree with it because you state it?

I believe you'll eat your words... said it before and I'll say it again!

Can we just have rumours on the rumour page rather than the six page diatribes from keyboard warriors. I am sick to death of reading (or scrolling past in most cases) the latest lengthy bilge from someone who thinks we give a rats ass what they think. Rumour page for rumours please.

25 Aug 2011 13:29:35
I dont think we should be going for City's rejects (Bellamy) or Cheslea's surplus (Benayoun). Both are average at best and their better years are behind them. We had them both in their prime....We shouldnt be looking at city's and chelski's cast off's! If we cant afford decent players in the transfer market then play the youth players such as Sterling, Shelvey etc....

I know what you mean mate. Next year we'll be back in the same position of trying to off load all the "dead wood" again as we will be in the champions league and looking for class players.

The Crow

To be fair Crow mate, Bellamy and Yossi have played for us in the CL and played well. The only thing that concerns me, is their age. I would defo take Bellamy back, he would be very handy for the bench me thinks.

Blair Mayne YNWA

What happened to the policy of only young english players?

That's exactly my concern Mr Blair, their age. I personally liked both the players when they played for us but now i'm not so sure it would be a wise move for us. A temporary one at best IMO

Ed, we liverpool fans are always asking about adam johnson, but have we actually ever made an enquiry or shown interest in him at all? thanks. {Ed002's Note - Enquiries have probably been made, but no offers placed.}

25 Aug 2011 13:19:42
All these negative comments about Henderson and Carroll are ridiculous,it's as if people want them to fail,I just don't understand people's mentality.Carroll will never be as silky as Suarez but ask any defender whether they enjoy playing against him and I'd take a guess it being "no".When watching them it's almost as if there trying too hard to impress which is only natural...let's give them a break and get behind them and the team and show we are proper supporters.

He must wear them down so much! And even if he doesn't score, it lets subs come on and have a go at tired players :)

thats why bellamy would be perfect!

25 Aug 2011 14:09:11
It's like f*cking Groundhog Day in here, everytime we play a match. Some people like Carroll some people dont, ok we get it. All of you have missed the only stat that matters, we won another game and remain unbeaten thus far. I couldn't give a flying f*ck who plays well during our game. Just as long as we get the result we want. If we have a fantastic season and no player really stands out, again who gives a f*ck? We don't want individual recognition, we want squad recognition. I looked at our 1st 11 last night and at our bench, and thought of the players that were missing Johnson, Gerrard, Kelly, Agger and Lucas. I couldn't believe the array of talent we have now, after a turbulent few years. So sit back and enjoy the wealth of talent we have now at our disposal, instead of moaning about the lack of talent that individuals have.

We should judge all our players and manager at the end of the season, not before. To judge players after just 3 games, is not only premature but just plain stupid. FS lads grow up, we are LFC fans not Spuds.

Blair Mayne YNWA

Ps. Chris in Tanworth, you have said since we got Carroll that you didn't rate him. And i respect for that mate.

My sentiments exactly.

Just like you were offered the chance to learn basic English usage and you replied, "Why would i whant that?"

Well andy carroll, charlie adam, and jose enrique were in the championship only two years ago we got them....

WHY WOULDN'T WE!

He would be a squad player, he could come on when players have already tired the opposition out, he is still very quick, can provide good assists and has goals in him. Can't argue really.

You need to learn to spell mate. Thats shocking. {Ed011's Note - To original poster - Craig Bellamy comes in as a free plus we could do with a spare striker. This is probably why KK went for Bellamy}

Is anyone else really not looking forward to when we lose our first match because if this is the kind of grief we give the players after winning 2 and drawing 1 I dread to think what its going to be like. Anybody else wonder what's happened to our great support over the years?

Big Pappa Pump ST

I was thinking the same thing, it's not just here, reading football365 and for example Arsenal fans were slating their club yesterday afternoon, 24 hours later and praising them (at least they are praising them for a win I suppose, more than our fans are doing) I think every clubs fans are at it though. Every result and people kneejerk, this was not even as abundant under Hodgson as badly as it is now. Were people happier then?! I don't get why everyone is going mental and over-reacting to the cost of players, if someone doesn't run around as much or has a ponytail, eveyone needs to chill out a bit.

25 Aug 2011 13:55:24
I awoke this morning and once I got my young lad out the door to school, I settled in to have a read of this great forum for LFC fans and football fans in general. Being on a six hour time difference can have it's benefits as a lot of news and banter has been placed before I arise. This morning though was different. It's 6.56 a.m. my time here and I feel like i did 13 hours ago when I had 2 of my sales reps (both women) bitch and complain for an hour plus at changes we made to our payroll system which will ultimately pay them about 10% more in commissions but will require them to work a little more diligently and become more accountable at the point of sale. They didn't want change and bitched and bitched to try to convince me that the old system was equally as good if not better than than the new one.

I got to read about 35 posts before I had enough. If this was a closed forum with access for just LFC fans I would not have a problem but the slating going on here of players and regular posters alike is akin to what society has become worldwide. I visit other teams boards every now and again for a gander around and there will always be ribbing and wuming going on, but I cannot ever remember 51M pounds worth of players being abused by their own fans. Even the plastic Chavs haven't slated Judas for his 1 goal in 20+ games.
I think we're brighter than that. If Shanks and Paisley heard that they'd turn on the element that's abusing their players and tell them to F**K Off. KK is even saying that he's been unfair to Andy, by playing him when he was unfit. I listened to The Anfield Wrap podcasts yesterday as I drove to and from work and I said to myself, that's how you argue pros and cons with team selection and tactics without slating players of the team you love.
When Fergie signed Smalling last year many said he paid too much for him and he wasn't a need at the time. He had Brown and Evans as backups . Smalling still played 24-25 games as they won a title. He got time to bed in and was allowed to grow into his roll. Don't all our new players deserve a chance to bed in too, especially the young ones. I was 14 when I stood on the Kop for the first time and I have been lucky to have been to Anfield 40+ times. It was the men who stood with me then that told me stories about how it's a way of life being a LFC fan. The word "supporter" has lost it's meaning. We need to get a grip. We saw last night that we can put out a strong team and give respect to the fans of Exeter City by playing some of our big names in a cup competition. We still had 8 changes from the team that played Arsenal. We have a deep squad with 2 regulars still out through injury. A good start to the season is being tainted by these negative posters. Carroll and Hendo need 12 months to settle and we should be supportive of both of them. KK knows what he is doing and we needed this injection of player personnel to turn us around as a club. Great owner, Great manager, Great players, Great fans and some of the Worst fans too.

Chi-Paul

Ahmen to that! we need to get behind them all. we are Liverpool Football Club, This Is Anfield!

True, everyone is entitled to their opinion and mine is that we paid over the odds for carroll and henderson with what I've saw of the pair. Only my opinion.

Most of us agree that we payed over the odds - so what!

I thought they both played pretty well last night! An they will be great in time you watch, they just need time to settle.
Skurks

Nobody is doubting we probably paid more than usual, but as explained a million times this is what was required. What gets me is the slating the players have received and they are only just starting their Liverpool careers. So much for giving people a chance.
John Wigan

I agree Skurks, Henderson has come to a massive club with a big price tag whether that's £12 million, £16 million or £20 million, give the boy a chance to settle in, AC got loads of stick last night from the exeter fans and he answered back in the best possible way. We are starting to look like a quality side again with strength in depth. Some 'fans' on here need to start getting behind the new boys I think we should start showing our apreciation to these players starting saturday against Bolton. We are Liverpool FC we are a family.

It gets boring coming on here and listening to the same people feel like they have to defend Liverpool players, last season it was Lucas. Undefeated start to the season and I think most fans would have anticipated 4pts from our first two games maybe reverse the results but we're moving forward.

It doesn't matter how much you don't rate JH and AC they're here to stay so get behind them.

KopIdol YNWA

This is a mind numbing argument, some people keep saying we paid too much, but it's done, so what's the point in keep going on about it, it will make no difference. How about supporting them now they are here?

I think no one is factoring in the rising costs of buying players, especially throughout europe and England. Although there have been 1 or 2 bargains about Young cost 20m with 1 year on his contract, Nasri 25m the same, Jones 16-18m... players in demand are going for extraordinary sums. It's best not to think about what we paid, just that it is affordable.

Richards

To the OP: mate atleast we got the players that we wanted even if that meant we over payed. Or would you rather be like arsenal and don't get to spend at all?? Just be grateful that our club have solid enough owners willing to back the manager. Could you have said that one year ago??

VM YNWA

25 Aug 2011 12:54:17
why is everyone on here obsessed about getting into europe on some technicallity.we might get into champions league because some team in turkey cant play in it but if we dont then there might be a europa league place available.we are not in europe because we were not good enough last season.get over it!
this year the competition for the top four places is going to be even more competetive but we already have a head start on spurs and arsenal.
and there is no reason why we cant achieve a top four finish with the squad we have.forget last season its over with i'm sure with the players we have and the backroom staff and the owners all working towards getting this club back where it should be then champions league and domestic honours are not to far away.have a bit of faith!

Get Bellamy back. Fantastic squad player to have. Can play any flank and down the middle. Pace to destroy any defence. I'm sure Kenny can calm him down a bit with his attitude. Maybe he has matured and will realise this is his last shot with a big club. Just think if we can get him on a free it will be a good signing. Better free transfer than Joe Cole anyway.

He couldn't cut it last time round why would he this time

Hi Eds

Lovely to see that the Coates deal is nearing a conclusion - have been following the development with big interest and top job from you guys as always!
I have a question regarding Danilo Pereira of Parma as I see the LFC Norwegian supporters branch are mentioning interest from LFC. Do you know if this story have any legs? Also do you rate him?

Many thanks! -red norwegian- {Ed002's Note - I don't know of any firm interest, sorry.}

25 Aug 2011 12:41:41
To the Carroll denouncers:- have you ever played at centre half against a physical beast like Carroll?

If you watch the Arsenal game again, the two centre halfs were doubling up on him and even as a pair he was draining the energy from them. Granted they went down to 10 men but when Carroll had done his bit, suarez and Meireles came on and we went through them like a hot knife through butter.

Have a good look at the overall picture before throwing insults. He does a job and his job will be part of a squad strategy with the season at hand in mind.

Look at his body language last night when he scored, that isn't a good sign, the lad needs LFC behind him not nit picking like washer women.

Ozone

If thats all we need him to do, we should have signed someone like Jo Parkin for about £500k, not £35 mil.

Ash

Ozone a very good observation mate. i too was thinking about his celebration, he does not play football with flair but he is very dangerous. The amount of marking and tracking he commands when anywhere near goal creates so much space, which as you said is part of a strategy working to a squad formula.

Is Jo Parkin Jons brother?
John Wigan

It may as well be!

Everyone is entitled to there own opinion I understand that but for gods sake let's stop slagging off Carroll and Henderson and start supporting them. It's not there fault that there previous clubs valuation put on them was anything to do with the players themselves is it. Both are young British lads who have all there best years ahead of them. The 50-55 Million was too much but even if we had paid 20-25 million for them people would still argue that that was too much. They have both grown up in the north east and both arrived at Anfield as future stars in the making, with the help and support from KK the club and us fans they both should develop.

We all want the club back to where it once belonged as the best team in England and Europe but we have to be real things have changed forever with the likes of man city and Chelsea setting the transfer bar so high and being able to offer ridiculous wages and champions league football. We have to stop comparing Aguero(38million) and Carroll(35million) Aguero would have been a dream buy but would he really have come to us in January with the chance of no European football and not been able to pay his wage demands.. No. Again would Mata(25 million) come to us for the same reasons.. No.

To begin attracting the very best we first need to get back into the champions league, then we need to classed as serious title contenders. In the meantime to get there KK is re-building our team so patience is required and TRUST. KK knows what he is doing Suarez, Downing, Enrique have so far hit the ground running whilst Carroll, Henderson and Adam are still adapting. Let's judge the team in May 2012 I'm sure we will all be smiling by then..

Please post this Eds....

Also everyday i come on the site all i see is people slagging of Carroll give him a break he didn't decide his transfer fee.
Rocket Raj

Hendo has done the simple stuff very well, he pass completion is very high also. The more confident he gets the more risks he will take i.e. more forward play and we will all see him flourish into a valuable member of the squad

So im guessing u ddnt watch the match yesterday? he gives away possession, but I dnt get angry at him, I've come to except it and learned not to get my hopes up when he has the ball.

Alright ed. i havnt seen much of coates playing tbf, where as ive seen alot of cahill and shawcross, and i rate both of them. what is your opinion on coates, is he better? and if so in what ways? and last question, i honestly dont rate phil jones as much as he is sposed to be, would coates be a better buy for 7-10 million? cheers. Tom YNWA {Ed002's Note - I really can't answer this. He is young and a raw talent of which much is expected. He has no experience in Europe and will have to deal with cultural issues as well. Nice answer ed, i was also thinking about cultural reasons. hopefully he turns out to be good, and as much as we love carra, he ent got long left, and i think coates and kelly could be an option for a pair at the back in future. cheers.

I can see him as our own Thiago Silva. I virtually haven't heard for the brazilian before Milan unveiled him.

Doesnt matter what he is like now, unless he is like Alan Hansen in his peak straight away he will get slated on here, like most other players!

I see the blind faith brigade are in full swing on this post. Anyone that can't see that the pair of them are not up to LFC standards must not know what LFC standards are and should be.!! Please go back to school as you obviously know nothing.
Matt B

----------------------------------------
As an LFC fan for over 40 years I find it extremely annoying that idiots who post the truth and who are not blind to seeing certain things not working at our great club are subjected to schoolboy insults about being Utd fans etc.. Seriously ed's sort this stuff out.
KK certainly has players at LFC that are not fit to wear the shirt and that does include some recent purchases, some of us know what level a player should be at to be given that honour, unfortunately many on this site do not.
Matt B

----------------------------------------

So Matt B you believe you are a better judge of whether players are Liverpool standard than someone like Kenny Dalglish who set the standards. We have played 3-games this season - we're unbeaten and won 2 of them including away to Arsenal for the first time in 11-years. Can we please just back the manager and players and judge them at the end of the season.

JRG

Being a fan for over 40 years makes your views more valid than KK's experience? Quite frankly Matt B, you talk nonsense. Even the best managers buy an occasional flop, however these are only deemed flops when theyve actually flopped. Keep your crock of sh*t 'not fit to wear the shirt' nonsense until youve something to base it on (and no, 270 mins of football is not enough)

By all means come on here and gloat at the end of the season that you knew better than KK, but in the meantime dont dress up your premature opinions in some sort of rant at players being not fit to wear the shirt because you know better than KK.

Me? I think the manager of the club I love is KK, not Matt B. And for that I am grateful.

Bigbadben

Matt B = Matt Busby. don't be wound up by a Manc (even though a Manc who has supported US for 40 years lol)

Reply to big bad ben , this is a banter page and we all have opinions thats just it , i have been supporting the reds since dick white was captain and i think i have served my apprenticeship in knowing what agood player is ie was ,sean dundee good and should we have kept him was woy good and were the 2 cowboys any good if we all stood by and said nothing about our opinions we would all be like the stepford wives , carrol and henderson are not what we want , and i do not think at the moment they deserve a place in the starting line up but i accept , that we give kk full suppport and cheer all our players for mutual benefit.
the older supporters suffer from seeing how real good players have allowed our team to be sucessfull.
would you have wanted duncan ferguson in our team.
moral banter page therefore banter but no matter what cheer the players , as per the words in our song.
red mick tag

Loving the fact that Matt B refers to himself and those who share his opinion as idiots! Read the first line of his post again! Delicious irony indeed...Kev B

Ok which manager would you have chose which players would you have signed.
Lets not beat around the bush we were a club in decline looking at championship football with a team that by all intents and purposes was being strangled and stripped.
Which world class player would join us and the fact of the matter is we dont have the financial muscle to buy such a player the WAGES are the biggest issue not the price paid for them people say we could have bought Aguero for 3 million more than Carroll but his wages like triple that signing on fee over his contract and what if he had flopped.
Kenny has been marvellous to get stars and big names from clubs and the fact of the matter is we are winning games comfortably lets face it Sunderland were lucky whereas last season we were lucky.
We have a three tier team now maybe not of world class but of consistently good players who will do their job and create chances, chances will be put away and that wins games.
Try not too be depressed as the fact of the matter is you cant change it so either come to terms with it or look elsewhere I know what I will be doing every time Liverpool step onto the pitch do you know what you will be doing.

That's funny Kev B - I hadn't noticed that. I think that just about sums up these Carroll and Henderson haters.

Recent post regarding Carroll: we must support him even though we are not impressed by him, for gods sake we paid 35 million for him and I am definately not impressed by him (or henderson)

25 Aug 2011 12:00:51
agree with people saying lay off both hendo and carroll, they are both young men, both just moved fro their boyhood clubs, in carrolls case it may even have been reluctantly. both will prove their worth in time, good to see both men playing well last night

p.s suarez at 23 million is the buy of the decade

25 Aug 2011 12:00:39
True, hendo worked hard but thats all he does. As for Carroll - 35 million! what was kk thinking

Well, KK was thinking something like: "OK, we are Liverpool, and we would not settle for mediocre players. We need a top attacker, and he needs to be powerful, so he could free space for Suarez and the other light weights. It would be good if he is British, and has low wage demands, with a long-term perspective.
And oh, look, there are only two days from the window left, Llorente and other mercenaries ain't comming, and we need to find a greedy club and move FAST"

But thats what all liverpool fans seem to love about Kuyt, he has a great work rate. The thing about Hendo is though , he has a great cross in him . He will come good and so will Carroll :)

Hi Eds, It makes sense us getting Bellemy because he still has pace to burn surprisingly for a 32 year old and could come on the last 25minutes if we are winning 1-0 and need to play counter attack. Also KK is looking at bringing through our great young strikers so a younger striker say in his early 20s would stunt there progression.
Ed what are the chances out of 10 of Bellemy coming?

Chris {Ed002's Note - I suspect the chances are pretty good if the numbers can be worked out.}

What do people think of Bellers returning to LFC ?
I've always thought he left a bit prematurely last time, though I don't know whether he p****ed Rafa off or something.
But I don't mind if he were to return y'know. Still got a good turn of pace and could do a job, no probs.
I wonder what the finances will be like. I get the feeling he's got the hump with City big time, so I bet he'll try to get every penny he can out of them. I just hope that this doesn't impact on Lpool. You could sorta see this turning a little bit nasty between Bellamy and City. Would we have to step in and pay for a resolution?
If you hear any tittle tattle on the finances there Ed002, give us the gen please eh?
But I'd welcome him back anyhow.

i wonder ed do you think malouda would fit in to our squad since chelsea dont want him anymore,i think he is a real good player i think he did turn liverpool down to move to chelsea, but id forgive him for that :)
king henry {Ed002's Note - If Liverpool were to release Downing from his contract then he would be an excellent fit for a couple of years.}

Id like to have both but i doubt that will happen anyway whats your thoughts on him leaving ed2 i think he will be missed at chelsea.
king henry {Ed002's Note - Malouda was told he could leave at the start of the window. I expect a two or three year deal at Juventus followed by a final year playing at Dijon (a club he part owns) is most probable. Personally I expect he will be missed.}

1st time posting on the only site worth its salt. If the rumours of the moves for Coates and Bellamy go through, i think theese 2 players will not only improve the squad but also the 1st team, and the signing of Bellamy would be a master stroke, especially if Suarez misses games. All in all the transfer dealings weve done this summer are of a high quality. Welldone to all.YNWA

Here's a shout, didn't you all support crouchie when he signed? He gave our team a whole new dimension that year, and our away form improved dramatically, difference was crouchie was at his peak and was never really going to improve,AC is 22 ffs. History lesson, this is fact. A target man is useful when playing away at teams like stoke and bolton, just watch our away form improve this season, albeit AC might not influence a game like suarez, but nobody influences a game like suarez! You will eat your words. WelshBoyDave!

Yes but Crouchie didn't cost us £35 million.

Ash

Ash - you have tight pockets. Live a little. 35m here or there...so what. Just as long as the title comes home.

cozinoz

And? What he cost is not important, what's important is getting the job done!

Cozinoz, £35 mil here or there would be fine if we had the owneres that City have, but FSG's policy is to buy young up and coming players with a high sell on value. If we were spending another £35 mil on someone else I would agree, but we won't. I will go out on a limb and say that no team in the world will give us the equivalent or more than what we paid for Andy ever. For me, his value can only go down.

Ash

He might not have cost as much Ash, but Crouchie didn`t score for 18 games!! Did we all slag him off??? NO!! AC didnt ask to be £35m and like KK said we haven`t just bought him for the now we have bought him for 5 years!! Either support the team/players or FECK OFF.......I`m sick of reading all this negative s**te and who cost what.....did you pay for him???? JOG THE FECK ON!! Sorry for the rant Eds but LFC are in such a stronger position than last year with new owners willing to spend and a squad with great depth and the so called fans still want to moan.....whats all that about??? Moaning because we are spending money makes me laugh!! Last year our signings were Joe Cole, Paul Konchesky, Christian Poulsen, Jovanovic & Raul Mereiles.......Nuff said!!!

Coolhand, why are you bringing up how good the owners are? I never mentioned them! And for the love of god man, I DO SUPPORT THE TEAM!! Your view would be appreciated {Ed002's Note - I really think the fans should stay away from the financials. I have no idea what sort of answer you would be expecting in any case.}

Not much more? let's ignore the fact they are different types of players and in different positions, but £23.5-£25 million minus £16 million is quite a margin, infact it's a Seb Coates sized margin

Hi All,

With the latest statements attributed to Seba Coates about Luis Suarez influence on his decision to join us, we can now put to bed any rumours that Suarez has not settled and wants to join Barca?!

He wouldnt persuede his friend and team mate to join us if he wasnt committed himself. END OF!

Great news, not that it was ever a credible rumour in the first place.

Thanks Luis.

Jonson6 as I said, I agree with most of your posts, but for the love of god you just drag your opinions! You're like a nan that see's something on the news and repeats it to you over and over again even though you're sat with her as she found out the news in the first place!

I sign every single post, as does chris in tamworth, and we have the same views on Carroll, which is we will support him but at this moment in time we're not impressed by him. Is that so wrong?
And to whomever said about me 'having a laugh over hendersons price tag' can jog on, because for 15 million we got a player who last season absolutely ran sunderlands team and was impressive to say the least! And so far this season has done nothing wrong, just because he isn't scoring bundles of goals in 3 games doesn't mean he deserves this criticism!

True fans, regardless of their opinions, support their team and players no matter what! Jonson6 as much as you annoy me and whine just as much as all the people you're complaining about, you are a true fan, and I don't question that.

We are all liverpool fans, and through all the bull we all wants best for our wonderful club.

Thanks all,

Reading through a number of posts since our last two consecutive wins ... it amazes me still at some of the nonsense spouted about fees, players being good enough etc etc. Everyone is now an expert and their point is definitive and final, or to use someone else's phrase their "idiots" if they dont agree (intelligent comments like that make my day...).

What happened about giving a player time to settle in? People are making judgements on players without even giving them the opportunity of playing a couple of games. Basically because the player wasn't x,y or Mata he's rubbish... Where is the support for all our players who want to play for us? We're in danger of alienating certain players ... not everyone adapts as quickly as Luis. Make a judgement in a year or possibly 2.... after all I remember players like Henry, Evra and Crouch having desperate starts...

Privately I was concerned about 1 or 2 signings but Enrique has started very well and Downing is perhaps the player we should have bought instead of Riera. Let's seee how they do in a season.

Our squad has improved immensely in the last year, it looks like a squad that will develop into Title Challengers soon... isn't that what we all want? Individuals may naturally grab the headlines but it's about the support of the team for me... since FT left and SG has been injured it reminds me of why I started supporting this club, it was never about individuals, just the team!

It's reasonable to be critical of players when they have a bad performance but seems the old LFC scapegoat is becoming Hendo and Carroll, from what I saw Hendo worked hard, played two intelligent passes that led to 2 goals and Carroll scored his first, at this stage that should only be viewed positively.

Morning all
And an especial warm welcome to all our Septic Tank friends on this Summer morning. Thank you for taking the time out to come on to our beautiful site and pass on your balanced views. It would be very gracious of you if you could grow a pair and leave your names, however I don't suppose you get much time in between doing the blue rinses, plucking eyelashes and polishing fingernails in your Mcr beauty parlour jobs.
In other news, i didn't get to see the full match last night (just the late highlights) so can't really comment too deeply. But, as Kenny said, the attitude of the whole team was spot on and the banana skin was well and truly mashed up.
That'll do for me any day. Big AC - cracking goal.
I hope Raul is OK as well.

IrishRed. {Ed002's Note - There may be something on deadline day because it is impossible to guess at when transfers will complete. I suspect there will not be any shocks.}

Ed who is this player Shocks? And why arent we in for him? Is he a marquee signing? I know theres alot of talk about CB and strikers but we still havent filled the marquee gap.

The marquee gap has now been filled. It was purchased from Argos for £49.99 (half the original price so a transfer coup) and it now contains drinks and refreshments.

a question for eds and fellow readers why in gods name are we putting ball in the air for carroll he is magnificent on the ground shown yesterday as he beat a player and fired a cracker of a shot, and also his only goals in epl against man city one of which again a rocket of a left foot shot that fired past hart?? give it to his feet!!

J.JONES

Hang on...are you saying there's more to Carroll's game than his heading? Next you'll be telling me he's young; can improve; has a bullet shot; is one of the fastest sprinters in the Liverpool team; is physically dominant and has a hairy face. I thought we just bought him cause he's tall?

25 Aug 2011 11:22:06
I think half of the numpties slagging off Caroll have NO IDEA about football, and I would guess they have never played at any decent level.

Having played at CH at a decent level, I can assure you that playing against the size and strength of someone like Caroll is immensely physically demanding, and trying to win header AFTER header takes a lot out of you. After 60-70 mins you will not be the same, and thus, it creates more space for the players around him.

As a Liverpool fan, the objective is the team to win, to pick up 3 points, it's that simple. Whoever scores, scores, it doesn't matter. If we can use Caroll as a battering ram for 85 mins at 0-0 and Poulsen bags the winner in the 90th, I don't give a monkeys.

Team game, team result. Looking forward to the season.

Great post. Give the lad a chance. We are LFC, with what are widely regarded as the most knowledgable, loyal and patient fans in football.

AC just needs a break, then he'll be off and we wont look back.

Red G

Red G be careful what you put. Many years ago I would have agreed with you but reading some of the posts that get put on here, knowledgable doesn't spring to mind.

Henderson. What is wrong with so-called fans giving the guy so much stick? He may not set the world alight just yet but has he even done anything wrong in our opening 3 matches? He's putting out consistent passes if you look at stats and yesterday should have won us a penalty (no idea why he received a yellow for diving!), whilst also putting great crosses into the box. If you want to moan about a liverpool player then let it be poulsen. 50k a week for him sitting at home, probably combing his hair. Rant over.

My take on Andy Carroll.

Is it Andy Carroll's fault that we keep lumping the ball up to him?
Instead of working ourselves into areas of the field where we can get the best out of him before giving him the ball, at the moment we seem to be just hitting long balls up to him and leaving him to it. Which in some instances are ok, but the problem being that he is up there on his own. Even someone of his size and strength will really struggle to hold off 2 centre halves. One on one and AC will beat 9 out of 10 players put in front of him. When Suarez plays up alongside AC Defenders won't be able to double up on Carroll, and thats when I feel we'll get the best out of him.
AC never was, and never will be someone who will beat 3,4,5 players with trickery and pace (ala Suarez), but what he is is a beast of a striker, who, if used correctly is as effective as Suarez in his own way.
A lot of people seem to be hung up on his price tag. At the time, we had just publicly recieved £50M for our Ex CF, there was a few hours left of the transfer window, and AC is English. All MASSIVE factors in why he cost so much. Was he worth £35M, No. But LFC wanted him, so thats what they HAD to pay to get him.
I think it will take us some time to start using AC in the correct manner, but when his partnership with Suarez starts to find its feet, I think there will be no stopping it.
So how about we all get of his back (because nearly every game he's played for us he has 2 CB's on it), and start supporting him.

Tommy Walsh

The first pro-AC post I have agreed with on here. I wish they would stop lumping it up to him. Hopefully Kenny will be drilling them in training saying "just because we have a monster up front, does not mean we have to lump it up to him from 60 yards away!"

If Carroll is a tad too slow, makes no runs and reminds people of Heskey two years ago why did kk pay THIRTY FIVE MILLION POUNDS - waste of money. And while on the subject why did he pay TWENTY MILLION POUNDS for Henderson? And while on the subject why is Adam not allowed to cross the half way line - did you notice?

LFC didn't pay £20m for Hendo!

Why the infatuation with money?

25 Aug 2011 10:28:06
OK, that info is interesting, but I got it from a local Bulgarian fan forum, so I really can't confirm the true source.

It regards Carrol's infamous 35 million fee. As I read, the actual fee was 22 million; however, there were a lot of bonuces included:
- a fee if Carrol plays 10 games for the national team.
- a fee if we win a "big" competition - Champ league, Premierleague, etc.
- a bonus fee if Carrol sticks around for 3 years.
- a percentage of a hypothetical transfer.

So, it could turn out that the 35 million is POTENTIAL 35 million, and that based on the player being a success for club and country, and Liverpool getting back on the top.

Don't know if it's true, but I really hope people would stop pouring s**t over a player who has huge potential and could turn out to be a Liverpool legend, if he gets the necessary support.
Pls, post in rumours.

I've let this slide the past few days but enough's enough. Jonson6, I respect and agree with Most of your views but for the love of god please shut your damn mouth. Just because people don't agree with everything you say doesn't mean you need to right a massive post about how you feel once again! I personally didn't rate andy carroll before he came to liverpool so I refuse to falsify my amazement on him now. He's great at what he does, which is shooting and headers, however I feel suarez and his partnership is a rather good one , (or certainly has the potential to be) as its pace and trickery meets power and simplicity! I think its fantastic! However, I'm not impressed with Carroll as an individual as he looks a tad slow, makes no runs, and genuinely reminds me of heskey 2 years ago! However, as long as he's a liverpool player I will hope to god he changes my mind, and I will indeed keep supporting him, and unlike others I do want him to start every game so he can gain experience etc!

I also rate jordan henserson, very highly. I think 15 mil was a bargain for his potential, and I'm certain he will be pivotal this season in finishing in the top 4!

Thanks all,

Hooch.

Finally someone with a bit of sense! Could not agree more my friend,

ScouseToby

I agree regarding henderson, he'll be a great buy.. showed signs of class last night and played very well against arsenal.

I see the blind faith brigade are in full swing on this post. Anyone that can't see that the pair of them are not up to LFC standards must not know what LFC standards are and should be.!! Please go back to school as you obviously know nothing.
Matt B

---------------------------------------

Ok Matt B, give us a run down as to why you personally think they're not up to Liverpool standards.

Ozone

Remember Matt B,last season no CL,this season no euro football at all,so this is the standard that we are at now, next season we will be playing euro football, our next standard.

I for one am a proud member of the 'Blind faith brigade' If it means not slagging off players who havent been given a chance by people like you who feel they have a divine right to do so, because you have been a supporter for over 40 years. You call people childish who say support somebody else then go onto to say to the people who want to support our players go back to school! Hypocrite I think! If the player turns out not to work at least they should be given a fair chance, unfortunatley people like you cant see this.
John Wigan(Who is 41 and supported Liverpool all his life) so wont be going back to school any time soon!!!!

I would say you are not up to LFC supporter standards, Matt. A handful of injury-free games each and you have decided they are not good enough? Get behind them, support them, give them 100% and expect them to do the same. At the end of the season you can call for their heads if you like but while they are new and young and trying to gel.....SUPPORT YOUR TEAM.

cozinoz

Matt B, which team have you been watching? These players are better than the dross we've had to endure for a long time, you want so swap strikers we have now now for Baros or Cisse? Enrique for Traore/Josemi/Konchesky? Downing/Henderson/Adam for Nunez/Riera/Poulsen? My point being we had a good 1st team over the past few years, but that was it, our bench was crap, and no strength in depth or morale. This has what has been identified and worked on since Kenny took over, he could see the breakdown of the team at the end ofthe Benitez reign and then Hodgson and made this the priority. Would you prefer we swap the squad we have now for the team of 12 months ago? Would you prefer a future of optimism or heading for the bottom 3 of the league and being knocked out of the Cup at home to Northampton? There are so many new players to integrate and it's been 3 games, 3 GAMES, when they begin to understand each other more we have got a cracking team on our hands. I hope your employers give you longer than 270 minutes to prove yourself adequate at the job!
You call it blind faith, we call it the support of our team.

J.Hoover

So Matt B you believe you are a better judge of whether players are Liverpool standard than someone like Kenny Dalglish who set the standards. We have played 3-games this season - we've unbeaten and won 2 of them including away to Arsenal for the first time in 11-years. Can we please just back the manager and players and judge them at the end of the season.

JRG

As an LFC fan for over 40 years I find it extremely annoying that idiots who post the truth and who are not blind to seeing certain things not working at our great club are subjected to schoolboy insults about being Utd fans etc.. Seriously ed's sort this stuff out.
KK certainly has players at LFC that are not fit to wear the shirt and that does include some recent purchases, some of us know what level a player should be at to be given that honour, unfortunately many on this site do not.
Matt B

I think you should have read your post first, as you say that 'idiots who post the truth", that says that you are an idiot!
My problem with people who say they are not fit to wear the shirt is that you have given them no chance at all to prove that they are in fact good enough. I presume you didnt want Kenny in charge, as if you did you surely must give him the benefit on his signings! I have never called people for their opinions, all I have said that how can anybody judge the players being slated on a few games? Also look up the word supporter! I am sure you will find it means to support, and it doesnt say slag off!
John Wigan

Matt,

Why don't you put your concerns in writing to the owners as you obviously have better knowledge of football than the current manager. I would like to see you in charge as you've managed to see that some of the recent signings aren't good enough on the basis of a few competitive matches.

In short, you're a genius when it comes to evaluating footballers, so much better than Kenny and the scouting staff who have watched, analysed and discussed these players for months before deciding to sign them. I wish you were in charge instead [sigh].

Please complain to the owners and maybe a banner at the next home game to express your disgust will let them see that they have made a terrible error in trusting the manager's judgement. Oh, and boo the players too - that's what's needed from football supporters these days, I believe.

Let us all know how you get on.

Mr Benn

Matt B = idiot

Yes I did notice Carroll having a go at teammates, especially Henderson.

Yeah, Noticed that too, he seemed to be saying 'play the ball to my feet'. All this 'hoofball' talk must be annoying him. In fairness, he was pants with the ball at his feet..... until he unleashed a screamer!
Confusing eh?!

Give him time.

Henderson: Man U never wanted him and he was not Sunderlands best player last season, the mackems snapped our hands off at 16m. FACT!

No, not fact. Blind conjecture like pretty much everything else on this site.
AC

Henderson shows great potential, and he is very confident for a 21 year old. How long did it take the likes of Frank Lampard to prosper? He is better than him when he was 21!

It must be true because you put FACT after it!
John Wigan

Actually if im not mistaken didnt the mancs try to hijack the bid at the last min BRAAAPPP

If you do a google search for Jordan Henderson to man Utd, there are loads of links confirming they wanted him.
There's a good one from Sly Sports and a few from Manchester United blogs/pages etc.
I thinkyou'll find that they did want and that is a FACT!!!!!

25 Aug 2011 18:29:00
As he is a manc fan he would surely have read a lot of the blogs etc related to that team. Quotes from one of them (after doing a google search) read "After the match against Chelsea, Sunderland manager Steve Bruce confirmed that Sir Alex Ferguson was in contact with him over Henderson.

The relationship between Bruce and Ferguson, with the former being an ex-player of United under Ferguson's management, could prove to be crucial in future negotiations for the player's signature. Sunderland currently have Danny Welbeck on loan from Manchester United and both clubs enjoy a healthy level of friendship. In an interview reported by News of the World, Steve Bruce stated"

That's Coates sorted, to be honest. He should be an LFC player in 48 hours. Now off to see Roberto Martinez. He'd best have biscuits.

from twitter looks like Hugo Rodallega is the final target :)

i appreciate the post abt us being grounded and rememnering where we were last year and those dark days.

its true we've come a long way but i feel we shld sign a marquee or 2. to tak the spotlight and pressure off suarez.
bcoz the next thing u know he will be the hottest thing next year come CL and trucks filled with cash will be offered for him. so i hope we get hazard and some awesome guy like messi. insane i know but that's how good suarez is.

25 Aug 2011 09:48:50
If we sign Coates it will be another out if the blue signing that hardly anyone predicted which is brilliant work by KK and the club. Carroll & Henderson are expensive because they are British, but are going to be great players for our club.
Downing & Adam are astute signings, and Suarez is an absolute gem.
The last 2 transfer windows have been brilliant for our club and we've made huge strides, such a good feeling compared to last season with what we had to put up with.
Now we have the grand finale of the transfer window, I watched sky in January, I will be online using this site from now on.
Fantastic work by all the eds (even ms Chelski) and a big up to Macca who's bang on the money.

Ha ha ha ha, not your post but you invisible man! Saddo posts on rivals pages!!!
Ultra Red

He doesn't look happy at all to get his goal also, maybe he's feeling alot of pressure as you can see him letting it off at a particular player

What a load of crap, Carra is always having a go at everyone, is he disruptive, it is called giving a kick up the backside when needed, and in the case you were saying he deserved it!
John Wigan

Andy Carroll is the last person who should be shouting at people, if its needing a kick up the backside then everyone must be screaming at that lump of lard

There is nothing wrong with that if he feels hes not getting the right service he is right to have a go,i thought suarez really did try and get carroll a goal, hendo ran his heart out he justs need time and he will come good looks to be low in confidence i just hope he doesnt read this site.

Lay off carroll and henderson. But lets face it we have wasted 55 million quid. They are not up to standard.

So 3 games in and you have came to the conclusion they are a waste of money im glad youre not the manager because anybody with a brain can see the potential of these two theyre both still very young and will improve no end this season an will both be in our 1st team for 10 yrs.

With reference to previous post I agree that Carroll looked way off the pace, slow and terrible touch. Henderson, well, enough said - what a waste of 20m!

Obviously not a LFC supporter then - you numpty.
You don't even know the difference between the inital fee paid and the possible fee that will be based on appearances, success etc. £16m for Henderson is an ok fee. Don't forget he is only 20 so will improve, he was Sunderlands best player last season and ManU wanted him.
Get behind the team and every player that pulls on the red shirt or feck off!!!!

You should be more worried about Ferdinand's dodgy legs and Ashley Young's lack of talent, pal

Yet again, either a tosser from another club or a duckhead fan whose got no patience. Only problem I can see with Henderson is he's trying to be too casual, He had a shot on goal, and instead of trying a smart arse lob into the goal, he should have burst the net, al la Carroll.

Don't post your stupid opinion here again. Slating players who didn't want to be bought for that price but are settling in to our club don't need idiots like you showing a lack of support.

It's the 'Lucas is terrible' thing all over again... its okay - I understand fans frustration when players are underperforming. The thing is - players don't become poor overnight. Henderson and Carroll have played for only one club before signing for us; surely they will need time to adjust to a different style. Or are we so starved of success that we have become so impatient and baying for blood after 3 games? SingRed
p.s. Carroll only needs to work on his positioning - his lethal left foot can really strike the ball like a rocket!

I'm guessing you didn't notice that it was Henderson's cross which the keeper struggled to handle and ended up knocking into the path of Suarez? Or that it was Henderson's fine pass that put Suarez through on goal and allowed him to cut back the ball for Maxi to net the second?? The lad is already showing improvement, and it’s only his 3rd match for us! Unfortunately there's a pre-conceived belief that Henderson, and Carroll too, are not good enough so no matter what they do some people are just not going to be happy. And it’s really all about the money paid for them isn't it? People see that a few million more got other clubs the likes of Aguero and Mata, and because Hendo and Andy are not nearly as hyped they are automatically not good enough. If you stopped making those kind of comparisons and gave these youngsters, who undoubtedly have potential, the time to settle then maybe you'd start to see what Kenny has all along...

Please, please, please do not compare Carroll with Shearer - there is absolutely no comparison at all.

One of them is massively overrated with a goal record which is skewed by 1/3 of his goals being penalties and the other is Andy Carroll

Chris in Tamworth

Im almost certain they're both geordies so thats similar in my book

25 Aug 2011 18:42:22
Carroll is more like Christian Vieiri in terms of playing style I reckon, but forget that......

I have been distracted by Chris in Tamworth.

Chris in Tamworth, if you think Shearer is/was over-rated then you do not a clue. Your posts have intimated that this may be the case in the past, but now I'm realising that you just crave attention. I read here recently that you pester phone-in shows with your great opinions. lol.

I laughed because this confirmed whats I had already thought. That indeed, you do crave attention. Chris - I'd like to point out that without including penalties, Alan Shearer is the top goalscorer of all time in the PL.

202 goals (not from penalties) from a total of 260 goals. So thats roughly 20% -(or 1 in every 5) of which came from the spot. 80% (or 4 from every 5) did not. And lets face it Chris, Shearer wasn't playing in great sides for most of his career either was he?

And also, that goal record doesn't count international goals either, where Shearer also has an excellent record. Can't be bothered checking, but he's one of England's top Strikers ever.

Okay then, I checked - its 30 goals in 63 games. 7th of all time. Disgraceful eh. Shearer was phenomenal, and at Euro '96 he showed the rest of Europe what people with half a brain already knew - that he was one of the greatest strikers of his generation.

Oh, and penalties.... he was bloody good at them! Thats not a bad thing either. Stop reading tabloids and listening to stupid radio phone-in shows Chris. It's clearly beginning to melt your ability to reason......

I know your type.

Maybe you'll now suggest that football was rubbish back then, whilst simultaneously maintaining that Robbie Fowler's goals in the same era prove that he was a genius.....

I think Robbie's goals back then prove he was phenomenal, but then, I am not a hypocrite.... so I can say that.

Bow before Shearer, Chris from Tamworth....

(He was a dirty b*stard though.... and a sh*t pundit, and he seems rather dim, but what a striker.)

BJH YNWA -

PS. Here's the link to the penalty stats too.

www.skysports.com/opinion/story/0,25212,12038_4824112,00.html

Furthermore, If this Chris from Tamworth is the the same Chris from Tamworth who spends his time telling people that/why he doesn't rate Carroll (as he appears to do all day from reading his posts) then happy days for us!

For as his comments on Shearer display.

He has not a clue.

Another 200+ league goals might not even convince him.

Which reminds me - I forgot to mention Shearer's cup goals in that last post too..... but I think you look stupid enough already, don't you Chris from Tamworth.

Chelsea are trying to offload Malouda for just £5 mill that is a real bargain he's a cracking player I would love to see him playing for us but I know thats just my dreams.....
Watched the Exeter game a good all round performance, Wilson was sound at CB along side Skirtel & Carrol got on the sore sheet, again Suarez was a joy to watch.
Things are looking good... YNWA Micky Dover

25 Aug 2011 09:13:51
Henderson and Carroll will come good - i'm sure of it. Once they adjust and settle to Kenny's system, the movement will flow... expect all new signings to start against Bolton - Kenny wants them to gain more confidence and experience with each game. The senior players e.g. Kuyt, Meireles, Downing will be called up for the matches against big teams like the Mancs and Chelski - SingRed

Carroll is like a barge, so slow to trun it`s frightening, he does not fit in with a pass and move sysytem at all. Henderson just hasn`t got it and will be moved on at some point.
I have said it here many times, Carroll will be used from the bench from October if not before, even his goal last night (great strike) was lucky as he miss controlled the ball first and the rest of his game was poor.
Matt b

Well said, thats all its about Kennys system. Some players can easily adapt to a new system others find it difficult. Nonetheless, they will come good. Rather than look at the negatives, some of the fans on here should pick up on the positives.

Whilst Carroll does look clumbersome with a first touch more consistent with pub football, he does have quality aspects to his game. He is a classic unsung hero. He was a nuisance against Arsenal, the run where he drew two defenders to make space for the missed Henderson header shows he thinks for the team. His aerial technique will improve and if he gets better service from the left on the deck he will bag goals. Michael Owen used to miss a bag full of chances before netting and couldn't trap a bag of cement. He escaped the critics because he looked fast and sharp. Carrolls reaction to his goal last suggested he feels as though he's carrying a monkey on his back. A lad of his age doesn't need that sort of pressure on his shoulders, although he's a big lad he is only 22, so the critics need to reign it in.

Granted Hendersons passing is a bit off the mark just now but again that will improve. The classic tell tale sign that Henderson lacks confidence is his habit of turning away from tight spots and slowing the flow of movement. Flannagan and Robisnson do it and Lucas did it for a few seasons. Its part of the learning curve. If Gerrard was fit, Henderson wouldn't be first choice and would be eased in correctly so give the lad a break, he's only 20. Concentrate on his off the ball work rate and pitch coverage as it plays its part in the teams current form and ability to both create chances and defend.

It all looks good to me, we've got a deep diverse squad now with quality youth coming through. We play some great football. I feel positive that we will at the very least be in the top 4 mix if not challenging for the title. So why the moaning and groaning?

Ozone.

Sorry Ozone.

Your dig at Owen annoyed me.

Don't even compare Carroll with Owen - or mention them in the same breath as footballers.

Owen could score goals against anyone and was crowned European Footballer of the year in 2001 after helping bag us a treble, just in case you forgot.

Oh and btw, he was 21 (22 at most)years old when he did all this.

Were it not for injuries the boy would surely have been Englands top goalscorer of all time by now. He was halfway there after a few years! His strike rate is to this day - an absolute joke. A phenomenal young striker.

Most posts are either bitter or stupid, but I can't take your opinion on anything seriously after your comments.

'he looked fast and sharp' - don't you mean 'he was fast and sharp?'.

Good luck to Carroll and all that, I have posted here defending him too, but what the hell are you on about?!

Slag Owen. Call him a traitor - whatever. But don't say that the critics made him, or suggest that he wasn't that good.

Because that's Boll*cks.

Next you'll be saying Torres was sh*t/overrated too.

BJH YNWA.

I'd swap all three for a packet of McVities and a pint of John Smiths

Throw in Carroll and Henderson and you can keep the pint.!

You would only get the MacVities for those three, now stop being greedy.

25 Aug 2011 09:04:04
There are a lot of posters saying that Coates will be arriving in Liverpool. Is it possible that some of them check the time of arrival at JLA and get their cameras out so that we fans who are unable to do so can see that it is actually happening? It never ceases to amaze me how many players arrive at JLA and Melwood, etc, and that no photos are ever taken.

Coates: I'm following Suarez to Liverpool

Uruguay star Sebastian Coates claims Luis Suarez helped convince him to join Liverpool ahead of Manchester City.

Coates is expected on Merseyside before the weekend, after his Uruguayan club Nacional accepted Liverpool's £7million offer.

The centre-half, who was voted the best player at this summer's Copa America, says he is shunning interest from megabucks City to team up with countryman Suarez at Anfield.

"The offer ticks all the boxes, so you can say that the transfer is a done deal," said Coates. "The chance to move to Liverpool is very attractive.

"It's a club with a lot of tradition and history in English football, and the fact that Luis is there is a great help for me.

"I have spoken to him. He got in touch with me and we had a chat. It is good there is another Uruguayan already in the team - it is easier if there is someone I know well.

"He has told me what the club is like. It's important because he won over the fans straight away and is scoring lots of goals. He's doing really well, and that's good for me as another Uruguayan arriving."

RedDan

Wasn't he voted best "Young Player!"

Good goal by Carroll, boy did he hit it, but isnt he slow and his touch is not so good. Maybes not fully fit.

25 Aug 2011 08:48:22
Seeing as evryone else is giving their opinions on Andy Carroll I thought I would throw my hat into the ring and add my thoughts;

1. It was quite obvious to everyone that he would have stayed at Newcastle for life put was pushed out by Fat Ashley, so coming to a club that he really didnt want to is hard to start with along with being uprooted and moving to a new place.

2. Even though it isnt his fault, he is compared to Shearer and is claimed to be the next best thing for England, along with the hefty price tag these things add terrible pressure(and by saying he should be able to cope because he gets loads of money is rubbish).

3. Coming to us injured didnt help him at all, as when he was finally ready to play people were expecting that much from him he was never realistically going to deliver what people wanted, especially when not fully fit.

4. The people slating him already obviously never saw him play at Newcastle or they would have known what to expect if they did(and this is not some silky skilled Suarez type player) just a raw kid with potential.

5. The service he has been provided with up to now has been poor to say the least(and before you say for 35 million he should be able to do more) that isnt his game.

6. Everybody seems to compare the players brought in last time around , Barnes = Downing, Suarez= Beardsley etc. so on this Carroll = Aldridge, and nobody can tell me he was a good footballer, his control was awfull and if he didnt hit it first time he would be tackled, but what he did brilliantly was score bagfuls of goals but did he create any himself no he didnt, he had a great supply.

So in summary all this negativity wont do him any good as I am sure he has enough pressure to cope with. Better we reserve judgement until 12 months time, instead of saying he is crap, but hopes he proves me wrong, to me this is a ridiculous statement as it is saying I am not going to support you until you prove your worth. Surely better to support him first. Let us please forget about his price tag and forget about his rawness and faults . So give him the service and he will score, just like Aldridge. If I am wrong at least I can say I gave him my support from the beginning unlike 'he is crap but I hope he proves me wrong ' brigade!

Long post I know sorry.

Good result last night, some good performances, some not so good. Carroll - well, ok, but very slow and sluggish and we are hoofing the ball up too much for my liking. Hendo, good first half but shocking second half - still not convinced about these two and we spent alot of money on them. Downing is an excellent signing.

Fans will have to stop dwelling on the price we played for players - it is no way constructive and puts unnecessary pressure on the players named. What they forget is that we have a lot of players at the club who will,in the next couple of seasons,be worth at least £20M each - Kelly,Flanaghan,Suso,Stirling, etc and lets not's forget that Suarez' value is at least double what was paid for him. (I almost wrote 'what we paid for him" but as I said yesterday 'we' didn't - the OWNERS did. We can all say that the club belongs to us but it doesn't. Let us all concentrate on the POINTS and not the POUNDS!

We're looking good and slowly begining to gel.
Its clear that Adam's and Lucas' place & positions are cemented in the team and when Stevie G returns it will be at the expense of henderson on the right with freedom to roam.
A coates, cahill partnership would be amazing for the future... Of course at the loss of skrtel(inconsistent) and Agger(injury prone). I'd personally would love a cahill ngog swop. As we are lacking a backup striker who can have an immediate impact of the bench(all due respect to kuyt but he's more passion than skill, perfect squad player though).
I'm really enjoying watching Charlie adam especially the fact that whenever he gets the ball he's always looking to move forward and attack. The only crit I have of him is that we haven't seen his brilliant corner kicks yet for us. Looks like he left them @ blackpool.
Henderson needs to find his feet and prefers being central. But I guess th king would like someone who can deliver a decent cross/pass on the right(all due respect to kuyt again).
Enrique is a demon. Fullstop.

Personally I am happy that no one picked up on the Coates rumour. Its amazing how unsubstantiated rumours blow up so quickly. I still thought were going to part exchange N'gog with Cahill! ha fat chance from the start.

As far as I am aware, personal terms have been signed with Coates who is subject to a medical.

Announcement should be made before Saturday (Nacional v Cerro)

"I will return. We are proud to have been able to wear the national jersey"

Sebastian Coates said goodbye Wednesday afternoon by their colleagues in the Grand Central Park. Coates will travel Thursday morning for England to close the pass and have the medical evidence. Coates had his last workout in the park and was cheered by all
comunicaciones@nacional.com.uy

Sebastian Coates had his last practice, at least for a while, with the national squad on Wednesday afternoon at the Grand Central Park. Seba was cheered and greeted by all his colleagues and each member of the coaching staff and officials of the Park. The player spoke to the Club's Communications Department to let all our fans the following message:

"Too many memories. The biggest memory is the first time you get to Central Park when he was 11. I have been through a lot within the institution and are all fond memories."

And added: "With the fans I have only words of thanks. Conmigo always behaved 10, in difficult moments of my career, they were always supporting me. But I'll wear the shirt again and I look forward to National's support when that happens "

The fact that all the bags we know that Sheba will fare as it deserves, as demonstrated in the Uruguayan.

Again the process Tri-years of work has a name: Sebastian Coates. A boy in our house, a man of Uruguay!

alot of fans on here are slating the 35mil man Carroll..
Its cos they have fantasy football mentality... They watch a striker and his value only depend on whether he scored or not.
Andy is huge and a handful for any defender, mentally, physically. Sometimes he will draw in a second defender to help out.
This then creates more space for the other players around him.
This will make suarez, downing, gerrard etc all look 5milion pounds more themmselves. Just cos the opposition is trying to contain Carroll so giving them more space to play...
Stop being short sighted... If Carroll scores only 5 Goals this season and suarez, downing, gerrard etc can score 5O/60 between them.... Then Andy Caroll has done a good enough job.
Back off Andy, and see how the others improve around him.

I have to agree with the vast majority of this post, not sure about the valuation parts but I see the point being made. Against Arsenal everyone jumped on how much better we were with suarez and meireles on the pitch but forget that for 70 mins the Arsenal centre halves had to compete in a physical battle with Carroll and were shattered by the time the substitutions were made. This was just simply excellent management taking advantage of the oppositions fatigue and bringing on players with more movement who shifted the ball that bit quicker. But thats not to underestimate the work that had gone in before. Last night lots of things frustrated me about Carrolls play, his touch at times, the wayward passes, the need for too many touches and generally looking cumbersome but ultimately he is a handful for defenders and we need to forget about the fact that he isn't going to dribble past 3/4 defenders, it just won't happen. What was obvious last night was that suarez was far more effective playing off carroll than he was leading the line. His movement from deeper will cause defences far more problems as he is difficult to pick up. Even when carroll was out last year often kuyt would assume the role as centre forward with suarez playing off him. Carroll definitely requires service and will rarely create something out of nothing but its fair to say that having him on the pitch frees up suarez will is a massive plus. Finally I think its worth pointing out that service for carroll has been pretty woeful so far this season. I dont see the value in drilling or floating balls to the back stick just for him to head back across goal why aren't we using him more centrally on set pieces to attack the ball and in all likelihood bang in a few more goals. Crust that was long winded, my apologies, back to work now.

Cheers
Greggers

I do agree with you on the way carroll plays but we did not sign the new emille heskey carroll needs to get 15 goals this year and needs to work more when not in control of the ball he is after all the front man

Kuyt and Suarez play well together with Kuyt getting in amongst the Goals.
Not having a go at Carroll but until he settles in better and finds his feet.
I think he will find himself on the bench, which would still be ok! Great to bring for an impact.
Price tag means nothing, only performance will dictate who plays.
£30mil Berbatov regularly doesn't get a game for the Mancs but still contributes to them winning trophys exactly the same with Tevez when he was there.
So if Carroll doesn't do the business Kenny just like Fergie will be ruthless.
It's not about Carroll it's all about LFC.

Hi eds.
I juz wana say that I wasn't quite sure of wat kd was doing in e transfer window but afta the game w exeter, i'm beginning to see.

We started w reina, flanagan, wilson, skrtel, robinson, meireles, spearing, adam, henderson, maxi n suarez. Subs were doni, carra, kuyt, enrique, downing, carroll n shelvey.

The squand doesn't even include lucas, gerrard, johnson, kelly n aurelio (or coates!:-)), or promising kids like coady, sterling, suso, morgan n wisdom.

Surely we have a new depth in our squad that we'v not had in a loooong time.

We may or may not challenge for the title this season but one thing's for sure- kenny noes wat he's doing. :-) Unless he really goes out n signs the aging n overpaid bellamy... Haha

Sorry to post again so soon. But when was the last time we made 8 changes from the previous game and the team play so well and have the quality on the pitch to boot.8 changes,Reina,Adam and Henderson were the only players who started against Arsenal but you could have earlily have thought that team could've been a normal first 11 and look at the bench. Get a grip for fecks sake. Just think back 12 months when someone reminded me in an earlier post that Luke Young turned us down, i'll say it again Luke Young turned Liverpool FC down! Now what a difference a year makes but, whats the fecking point,i give up. Jonson6

Fair enough Chris mate, like i said its just the rats who dont just rip on Carroll ,but Henderson and Adam has started to get a bit now. K79,i know exactly were your coming from mate, post after post about the same players no matter how they play. They dont ever look for the good points mate, conveniently forgot all the good things they did. Carroll, bagged,Henderson was involved in 2 goals, the cross, and the ball to Luis to cross for Maxi to bag. I still get wound up to the max sometimes but thats what they want it seems. Write a load of bulls**t and bare faced lies, leave no name, then sit back and watch the reply's pour in whilst sat their at home playing with their joy stick. Took me a long time to chill to even this level but i try not to give the tossers any airtime. End of the day. If you'd have said after 3 games we'd have 4 points,be though to the next round of the cup. Score 6 and let 1 in from open play, i would've taken it.We even got stick for beating Arsenal away, wow, they were Prem contenders till the shot their wad a bit to early. Its not our fault Arsenal's squads paper thin and seem to have an incompetent medical team. When you looked at their team sheet their was only Jenkinson and Fripong who were novice's at playing in the Prem. They had since July 1st to sort it out, and people moaned about how weak Arsenal were and we wasn't much better. Well Arsenal, dont let a top players contract run down to a year before offering him a new one so they could pay him as little as he was on for as long as possible, fully expecting him just to renew it because he was young and French like Wenger.Who played the system like a fiddle in the C.League. And was obvious the Fabregas was gonna go this summer. Anyhow i'm looking forward to a very successful season and you'll see a lot more posts being signed off around November when were right up their and they always had faith in what K.K was doing and all the players brought in would come good. Feck em mate thats what i say. Jonson6

Haven't posted on this in a while as i have been enjoying a long summer vaccation!

anway made up sebastian coates is coming to us! half the price of phil jones and twice the player!

i've seen a couple of people posting about bellamy joining, i really can't see it happening imo as much as i'd like him to join us because i admire his pace and passion, he is 32, injury prone and on high wages!

i have a few questions for the eds
1) is there a slight chance of adam johnson joining?
2) is there a chance of skrtel leaving?
3) if so would gary cahill or scott dann join?
4) as i think bellamy won't join, do you think we will bid for a striker this transfer window?

Thanks
Dan
p.s i know i'll probably get slated for this but i think we should try and get David Bentley on a season long loan!(with a view to buy)
i think we need a right winger and david bentley ticks all the boxes for me, he has pace, a great cross, a great shot and isn't afraid to take the full back on (other wise i would of said james milner for his versitilaity as well, but knowing city they will command a huge fee and milner will be on £85,000 plus already at city! and dount he'd take a pay cut, or would he?) {Ed001's Note - 1. not right now, more chance in Jan. 2. highly unlikely. 3. if he did go there would be a move made for another CB yes, unlikely to be Cahill due to Bolton's asking price. 4. the next target is a striker after the CB is done.}

this is what we want people seb coats turning down probably mega wages at city to come here also says to me that suarez likes it here and is impressed with the way the club is run and were it's going,we have signed great players this year and every one of them were targets for other big clubs but turned them down and some have even said it's the happiest day of there lives you cant beat that and they play for the club not themselves like city, just look at the wage comparisons it's all well and good paying the same to sign a player but what do you have to pay them week in week out to perform suarez 80k a week probably, aguero 250 i think prob more so anyone who moans about how were doing when were unbeaten and improving every game can go and jump putting it mildly and i for one wont be reading any unsigned post's for my health's sake haha.

Hello Dave, Great Dave!

25 Aug 2011 00:24:45
hey eds and fellow red fans, just writing to say what a good squad we have!
tonight we had 8 changes from the arsenal game and still had a strong team! We have at least 2 players for every position!
Lastly ed,il admit i wasnt too sure when we signed enrique, didnt think he was good enough but after the first 2 games i thought he was outstanding and a real bargain!
cheers
TQ

24 Aug 2011 23:46:54
i think kenny was making a point to the owners by playing suarez 2nite, he feels we need another sriker, and i reckon we need 2, now that pacheco gone, ngog going. no more english, i believe gerrard is going to replace henderson-will be good but not yrt, as we all seen with torres we cannot rely on 1 striker, oh dear not again

How does putting one's best player on the pitch send any message other than that he is the best player?

Suarez is short of match fitness and needs to have some game time under his belt.... simple as that! However, we do need someone who can be an impact sub...in the same was Yossi was, we just dont have that at the moment!

It means, we can't afford to leave him out because there's not enough depth in that department!

Paul R

Carroll was an impact

24 Aug 2011 23:38:17
Ed, any idea why we didn't just loan Pacheco directly to Rayo Vallencano instead of from Atletico to Rayo? Is it because of some loan-to-buy with Atletico? Thanks mate,

maka {Ed001's Note - I am sorry but I have yet to see anything about him going anywhere but Atletico and I am sure that would not be allowed anyway.}

24 Aug 2011 23:37:49
Ed, now that city have Nasri, how will they fit all their players into a 25 man squad? who do you think will become available?

Appart from the obvious (Adebyor, Bellamy, Bridge, Santa Cruz, M. Johnson etc) {Ed001's Note - it will be just the obvious, it is not that difficult fitting players into a 25 man squad. Not when you have a lot of players you don't want.}

24 Aug 2011 23:27:51
Ed's, can we please have a new page called "Fake Fans" where all repetitive moaning comments about Carroll and henderson can go? Or jus tfilter out every comment that mentions, "waste of money" or "£35million". It may be their right to voice that opinion, but i'm fed up of reading it. Everybody has a right to slate a player, but theres a line a lot of people are clearly crossing.

YNWA! (Adam)

I think you will find that they are fans of other clubs trying to stir things up here

People are only posting what they see regarding Carroll! he's still strapped up and if he has still got a niggle in his knee then he should'nt be playing! As for Henderson he clearly has'nt settled! you can see that in his face and his action's! he do'snt look happy! As if he's got the world on his shoulder's! I'm not havin a go just statin my observation's! Alphared

Do you not think that "weigth" is the constant pressure he probably feels knowing that his own fans are slagging off? Just a thought.

Paul R

Spot on Alphared, I dont know if he hasnt settled, I think nerves are getting to him. I think he must have been reading all the crap posted about him on various sites. I have seen enough to convince me in time he will be a good addition, just needs to relax. Same can be said of Andy Carroll, his body language is similar to Henderson. He also must be reading about all the support he is receiving from these forums...not!
John Wigan

No paul r I think it is the expectations of fand who have seen the best and expect the best what ever the cost of the player as spearing showed last night .henderson has not got to grips of what is the liverpool way of playing football and a spell in the reserves would do him the world of good as it did to many players who came to liverpool fc and become world class this is not a slant against hendo it is a fact of playing for liverpool fc . I would just like to say that hendo reminds me of terry mac when he first came to liverpool he went with the reserves and what a player he came back to the first team . just a thought guys .

Yes i think it's expectation with Henderson! And i think the unsigned post above may be right by putting him in the reserve's for a month or two! it certainly wont do him any harm! Alphared

HELLO MY FELLOW REDS AND EDS

Just wanted to say happy that meireles got injured, very unlikely he will leave now if that was ever the case.

Carroll replaced meireles and scored much needed conidence boost for him imo.

As the sayin goes we killed two birds with one stone!

I love the depth we now have, especially if we can add a backup striker.

Attack: Andy Carroll, Luis Suarez, Stewart Downing, Dirk Kuyt. We also have other players from midfield who can play in very attacking roles like Gerrard and Meireles. A backup striker would really give us great depth here.

Midfield: Steven Gerrard, Charlie Adam, Lucas, Jordan Henderson, Raul Meireles, Jay Spearing. Plenty of depth and quality here.

Defense: Jose Enrique, Jaime Carragher, Daniel Agger, Glenn Johnson, Fabio Aurelio, Sebastian Coates, Martin Skrtl, Martin Kelly. Thats 8 guys right there for the 4 spots, plus guys like Flannagan and Wilson.

We really have good depth all over the pitch. Im really excited for the rest of the season!
