Should be an interesting few days after the game in Turkey and IMO all hangs on the masch deal, which is interesting as whether he goes or not we need another striker. We have been linked to players every day so not going to speculate as to who cuz I have no sources other than the man down the papershop who swears Elvis was spotted at melwood having a medical whilst Roy has been spotted leaving the teams camp in Turkey and was seen down the local market looking for some some turkish delight to bring back as a holiday present for Stevie and El Nino.

Hold on tight it could be an interesting few days!

Owen will Kop it for pal Carragher by donning Liverpool red in testimonial

Michael Owen will risk the wrath of Manchester United supporters by pulling on a Liverpool shirt again when he turns out in Jamie Carragher's testimonial a week on Saturday.
Owen surprised the football world by joining United at the start of last season after spending his formative years down the East Lancs Road with Liverpool.
Now the 30-year-old has agreed to return to his spiritual home and once more don the red shirt he wore with such distinction during his years at Anfield.
Owen's motives are honourable, of course, as his appearance against an Everton XI will help to raise money for Carragher's chosen chairty.
Nevertheless, hardline United fans will be less than impressed. The rivalry between the two clubs is as fierce as ever, despite Liverpool's recent struggles, and many United supporters will take a dim view of the fact that he has agreed to wear a Liverpool shirt.
Special request: Carragher wants Owen to play in his testimonial
It is understood that Owen will play 45 minutes in front of the Kop at Anfield on September 4 after his former team-mate personally asked for his presence in his Liverpool XI line-up.
The former England striker has been given permission by his United manager Si r Alex Ferguson to play in the game and the Scot will hope that the run out will help Owen find some kind of form.
Many United fans have never really taken to Owen, largely because of his association with Liverpool but also because his contribution to the United cause has been so modest since arriving on a free transfer from Newcastle United.
Owen did score a memorable winning goal in a derby victory over Manchester City last September but that was one of only three strikes in the Premier League. His other six goals came in the Champions League and Carling Cup.
His season was ended prematurely in February when he badly tore a hamstring in the Carling Cup final at Wembley.
So far this season Owen has found himself behind Wayne Rooney, Dimitar Berbatov and Javier Hernandez in the pecking order of strikers at Old Trafford.
It is clear the former Real Madrid man is going to have to find some form and fitness if his contract at Old Trafford is to be extended beyond the current campaign.
Carragher's testimonial is likely to be well attended as the long-serving defender is a popular figure on Merseyside. It remains to be seen how Owen is received by Liverpool fans, some of whom feel he should never have joined United in the first place.

Liverpool Rumours
Gago from Madrid is on his way to Liverpool - The player has suffered from an ongoing heart issue, which has put him down the pecking order at Madrid, but he has been given the all clear to play and is going for a nominal fee - - Seen the guy play - on his day, as good as Masch, so lets take the risk !

it isn't gago who has a ongoing heart issue it is Ruben de la red, we have the same heart condition, it is funny actually because on october 2008, i was in the same ward as him, when he first fainted in the middle of a game.
he also has to have tests done every 2 months the same as me, its a shame, because when he was ruled out of the entire season, madrid treated him like sh!t, instead of paying him his wages, they put him on some sort of monthly disabilty benefit in which he only got 1, 500 euros a month (£1, 200 a month i think) , they tried to pass his condition as a "common heart problem" which p!ssed me off, because what we both have is a rare heart condition which is sort of similar to epilepsy, but hasent been diagnosed. such a shame really he is a nice guy and a talented footballer.

From Karlos Sanchez Lopez and btw my first team is real madrid, but i have a soft spot for Liverpool.
The city is wonderful
Its fans are fantastic, polite, respectful and loyal
And i was at anfield when you raped us 4-0 lol, and listening to you never walk alone at the end gave me goose bumps, and sent tingles down my spine.
I really Hope Liverpool do well this season, in my opinion i think you need a striker, if i was jose i would not mind loaning you benzema for the season lol so we can get a new striker instead of relying on a B team striker, its not like we can pull out Negredo's, soldado's portillo's and Bueno's from the b team all the time lol.
So i wish you all the best Liverpool Fans for this season, and if some how we don't make it past the group stages i would love to face you in ireland for the europa league final!

The Benitez Blueprint

Early season optimism from positive signings within the transfer window, a new manager with a gentleman's demeanour reminiscing the past Legends, and potential takeover has lifted somewhat the dark cloud looming over Anfield. However after 4 competitive games, it is clear Benitez's influence is still being felt. After all, right or wrong, Rafa wanted and gained control on many aspects of the club.
He was fundamental in convincing Gerrard to resist Chelsea and stay. He transformed Carra into one of the top centre backs in Europe. He juggled transfer budgets and brought silverware back to the country's most successful club. Strain began to show with the Gareth Barry and Robbie Keane saga, and we all know about last season. He changed the structure of the Academy. His grip on the way we play is still evident. Hodgson is aware of this: I need time to get to know the squad, know the players, strengths and weaknesses. So what did Rafa leave behind?
Formation:
4-5-1 or 4-2-3-1, whatever you want to call it. Two games, two different Liverpool's. Arsenal at home; fighting spirited display which we should have won, for only a red card and a rare Pepe mistake. For one reason or another Roy picked this usual formation. Personally, he was aware of the passing threat Arsenal posed. This is the way we Rafa has developed our play. Man City away, the 4-4-2 absolutely killed us, no pressure on the ball, out passed, out processed. Would we of lost that much by playing 4-5-1? Refreshing that we had a go (somewhat) but Rafa knew what he had to play with. It is going to take time to bring back some adaptability in our play.
Players:
We have seen players leave Liverpool, who maybe did not excel, but no one wanted them to leave as they had quality. Crouch, Keane, Bellamy, Alonso and so. All top players. Rafa used the money to the best of his ability to try and develop a winning XI. No one in the stands has had much confidence in the squad over the years. So what has happened to the developing players?
Academy:
The 90's brought some of the greatest players in Liverpool's history; Gerrard, Carra, Fowler, McMannaman, Owen. The Legends of Daglish, Souness, Keegan, all brought into the club. The previously successful conveyor belt of Academy Players ceased under Rafa. Where are the new stars of the club? Cries from the Kop for Pacehco, Kelly, Spearing have rung out for years now. Where would we be now if these players developed into established first teamers? Indications show Roy is looking to change this. Investment into youngsters has worked previously; Hodgson needs to re-ignite this flame.
Legacy:
Success in cup competitions and Europe; falling short on the national front. Can Hodgson bring back those days back? It remains to be seen. Rafa will always be remembered for Istanbul, and Cardiff, folklore stories for the remainder of time.
So what blueprint has Rafa left the club? A tactically inspired, rigid one dimensional team, 4-5-1, solid enough to win tight and tense European and Cup games. A collapsed development system which has seen the likes of Stephen Warnock, Danny Guthrie and Adam Hammill move on, the system which threatens the like of Spearing, Pacheco and Kelly becoming top players. Roy, will have his work cut out to change not only the fortunes, but DNA of the club, so Roy needs TIME and FUNDS.

Pssst. Remember me? Remember my 3 posts? Quick reminder, Torres to Chelsea (50 million), kuyt submitted transfer request and mascherano to barca (fee undisclosed) and no sale of the club with the owners trying to refinance as well as asset strip. Well now I can reveal the most potentially damaging fact. Gerrard has asked Struan to do the deal with Madrid, I don't know the details yet but I will soon. Don't tell anyone I told you

Liverpool need to stop wasting money on average players.please stop linking us with konchesky, c cole, never good enough to be liverpool players.keep the money building up for quality players and stick with the youngsters

Konchesky eyed in £3m swoop

Liverpool's search for a left-back may well end with Fulham man Paul Konchesky brought to Anfield.
Though the Reds have resigned Fabio Aurelio and Emiliano Insua remains on the payroll despite interest from Italian clubs Roy Hodgson has made the capture of a left sided defender. An understanding that players from the West London outfit would not be approached when Hodgson left Fulham does not preclude bids being placed and accepted should valuations are met.
The 29-year-old Konchesky who previously played for West Ham United has 12 months remaining on his current deal and was omitted from Mark Hughes' squad for the Carling Cup match with Port Vale.
£3 million is thought to be the amount on offer. In a twist of events another target, PSV Eindhoven's Carlos Salcido, could end up at Craven Cottage.

The french league is a poor league and winning stuff in there does not mean you will be successful in the prem remember cisse?

25 Aug 2010 21:52:25
Ben arfa would be a disaster his attitude is horrific and he is extremely lazy he only turns up for about a 6th of the game. i would much prefer kuyt over this guy.
Well said. .The frenchman is the new dutchman. .alot of the french nowadays have attitudes similar to how the dutch used to be. .too many Knowalls who are lazy and believe their own hype who arent prepared to listen to managers. Look at the world cup squad, look at Nsomnia, remember Le Sulk, Evra for france, Gallas , Drogbas virtually a fr*g an look what happens when you don't let him take freekicks. and top of the list look at their greatest player Platini . What a horrible petit merde.

25 Aug 2010 21:51:22
Listen up fellow liverpool fans, as much as i would like Sergio Aguero to come to liverpool (and believe me i do) it is NOT going to happen.
Firstly we don't have the money to cover his transfer fee or wages.
And if we do sell Mascherano all the money we get from it will go straight into Hicks and Gillets pocket, or go towards pay off the debt that they forced on us.
times are gonna be really tough but come January wen we get new owners im sure things will look up and im sure the new owners will be keen to show they mean business by getting a marque signing.

But we must support all our lads (Yes even Lucas)

Rafa has caused all these problems over the years, so the loyal fans of Rafa go follow him in Italy. For years he's been a mess and he inherited the team that won the CL finals with the additions of Alonso and Garcia. Yes he's brought us Nando, Pepe, Kuyt, Alonso but that's about it when it comes to "WORLD CLASS". Watching Glen Johnson play against ManCity made us all sick and I'd rather sell him and play Martin Kelly who's shown a lot more than Johnson's flashes of brilliance but lack lustre performance.

However, I've been reeling for years about Lennon (with Leeds), Bale (w/ Cardiff), Crouch (why sell him? he still has bench time with Spurs!), Bent (w/ Charlton), Defoe (w/ West Ham), Drogba (w/ Marseille), Tevez (w/ Boca), Taiwo (since the u19's), Anelka (when w/ Bolton), Drenthe, Robben, Sniejder and Rafael Van der Vaart (during Madrid spell on the bench). . Just think of these players on Liverpool?!?!

It's quite sad and depressing as WE Reds fans can only take so much! To watch a team like ManCity dominate us and only Gerrard, Carra and a couple others showing signs of life was disheartening. WE LACK CREATIVITY! I can tell you all this - > Torres is no slick dribbler a la Drogba and he's only good in and around the box, so a LW and RW is needed. I like Kuyt because of his hard work, but it's time we sell him for the 15 mill (30 year old), as well as Lucas who honestly, Not even a promoted team would take him. .He can't put the ball in net, he doesn't have crisp passes, he cannot dribble and all this was shown VISUALLY in the ManCity game and finally. .did you all know he was a Brazillian? With those lack of skills, you'd be suprise he is!?!? You're telling me that Roy couldn't find a space in the line up for Aquilani? ? How does Lucas get that spot? World class Aqua v.s. Mediocre Lucas. .hmmm?!?!?

People say we need money, but we need to rid of "Rafa's Rubbish" and rebuild and that means if getting rid of some stars to do so, so be it! Players with massive quality and upside has spoken about the love of Liverpool. Connor Wickham, Arda Turan even Djibril Cisse (who scored 12 plus goals a year for us!). We need to bring in players with passion. . I saw Degen play with BSC YB the other night and he looked fantastic. He even played decent with us. There are players out there with skill who are not spoken of because they don't have the "Gerrard", "Torres" name attached to them, yet they are machines on the ball for example Bryan Ruiz, Keisuke Honda, a host of African players and Asian players, Valon Behrami. If Torres wants to go, let him go as well. I can't believe Mascherano and his actions. Does he not know that the Liverpool Crest is nothing to joke of, yet he insults the fans! Wow! If Barcalona wants to off load there bench players then we are not up for it! Hleb and Canceres? Come on Pep! ! You have Bojan and Jeffren who is more valuable to us! Give us both and 7 million and we'll call it a day. With players like those 2, we can sell Kuyt (seems he wants to go) and if Torres gets testy, the out with him for nothing less than 50 million! (Kaka's worse and fetched 60 million. Bring in Konchesky. Watch him play the last season and against ManUtd over the weekend and you'll see why!
Any news on owners? as Mr. Parry screwed us awhile ago by choosing these 2 clowns the other bid was non other than Sheikh Mansour's (ManCity owner) uncle. . The prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai International Capital. .Sheikh Mohammed! Just think of the position Liverpool would have been in today! : )

Agree to disagree on all or certain points!

SIM THE RED!

This is a key post but Torres does want to stay and Bojan and Jeffren and 7 mil for Mascherano would be awful. Jeffren sucks. I would also like to say that the players you have mentioned would have been great signings.

"This is only the beginning"? ? I can assure you that is the end of any credibility your rant has. You have obviously been reading too much garbage that has clouded your judgement and left you in what seems to be a bit of a state. The media in my opinion are trying everything to get info from the club releasing speculative stories in newspapers I wouldn't let my dog crap on. It is a dirty trick to try and get the club to make a statement etc. I also think that the bookies have an interest in getting this info too as loads of cash will be plastered on potential bidders.

25 Aug 2010 21:33:59
What a frustrating beginning of season and transfer window. I'm feeling exhausted by it all, with things appearing just as directionless and toothless in the transfer market as they are on the pitch.

On the pitch there is still no dynamism, or creativity, no fluency of play or decisive passing.

Still on the back foot!

whatever happened to pass, move, press, attack?

It's hard to imagine any of the names being bandied around fitting into the liverpool team, so at this late stage I would even accept Hleb, as at least he is forward thinking and another option.

Im not being a pessimist and getting down on the team or Roy, but it's tough watching the team play at the moment. Yeh we drew with the Arse, but we were poor 1st half, so have played about 40 mins of ok football in 2 games, coz we were awful against Citeh.

We do far too much chasing of the ball, and that is because we no longer control games. If Roy can get us back to bossing games, passing teams off the park and creating chances with deadly disections of our oppositions defence, then to me Roy will have earned the right to be a Liverpool legend, as he hasn't been left with a great hand. Rafa seems to have sucked all the belief out of our players.

25 Aug 2010 21:32:23
Its easy to say if milan offer 15 mil for kuyt and barca offer 20 mil for scab, then we should accept. . AS LONG AS WE REPLACE THEM WITH BETTER! i like kuyt but admittedly 15 mil is good money, but as long as theres a player coming in. .id prefer kelly at RB . maybe johnson cud do well in right mid, after all its done Bale good to push to mid. I remember Eire playing with 4 very fast full backs using 2 as wingers with good under and overlapping understanding. and decent crossers.

25 Aug 2010 21:29:35
Whos The Genius Who Made Benitez Sign A Document Saying He Wont Buy And Liverpool Players?!?!?

Hes The Only Manager Stupid And Stubborn Enough To Buy This Crap Twice!

That Man Has Single Handidly Poisoned Our Club!

More So Then The Americans!

Kuyt = For The Life Of Me I Cannot Understand How He's Classed As A Professional Player!I'd Carry Him On My Back For Any Bid Over 5 Million!

Lucas = Ok To Have On The Bench As A Back-up!But Id Have Him No Were Near The First Eleven!

He Has Drained Any Confidence Out Of Any Decent Player Whos Gone To The Club. .Babel, Johnson Etc.

Badly Need A Left Back And To Move Agger To CB With Skrtel, Carraghers Way Past His Best And We Cant Afford For Him To Keep Punting The Ball Out For An Opposition Goal Kick Every Time He Gets The Ball!

After Watching Konchesky Against United He's Not Good Enough, Wasteful On The Ball, Like Riise Was.

We Should Be The Ones Getting Salcido! , Small Fee, Good Going Forward, Fast, Good On The Ball, Similar Qualities To Evra, Ashely Cole Etc.

Need An Out An Out Right Winger, If We Sell Masch, Jesus Navas Would Be First Choice Personally, Dont Think We'd Have To Pay Over 15 Million! Definitely Since Sevilla Just Got Dumped Out Of The Champs League And Need Money!

But If Hleb Was Included In The Deal (Unlikely) Then Happy Days, The Guy Was A Class Act At Arsenal, Only Criticism Would Be Afraid To Shoot, But His Set Up Play, Pass And Move Was Top Notch.

Then A Decent Back Up Striker For When Nando Needs A Rest Or Gets Injured ( :( ).

Wouldnt Mind Seeing Trezugoal Come In For Free Or On Loan From Juve, Maybe Old But Has A Knack Of Being In The Right Place At The Right Time.

Then If We Could Get A Striker Between 5-10 Mill, Havent Seen Enough Of Toivonen Or Ruiz So I Cant Pass Judgement Unfortunately. . .

Marky Mark. .

In reply to Roy: Your comment about the first half/ second half is probably valid, however this was yet another tactic used by Rafa. The amount of times we started sluggishly and fell behind by half time was ridiculous. Only in the second half did we pick up the tempo, energy and urgency. A little like the game on Monday night. I don't understand this tactic if it is a tactic. We need to play at a high, fast paced tempo from the off. It gets the fans going, gets the atmosphere pumping and builds the adreneline in the players. I can understand that away from home we need to be restrictive on the opposition but fast paced counter attacking with the quality of Gerrard in particular to kick start this surely must be a better plan. We still miss Alonso.

And a message to all posters moaning about the quality of potential signings. We are near/ close to a takeover. There will be no money pumped into the club from any external sources. There hasn't been for two years. The club may have made a very small profit, but the money used to secure interest payments means that we have had very little money to play about with. Therefore all this talk of having £40/ 50M to spend even after certain sales was always far fetched. I believe the club has about £6/ 7M to play with. If that barmy bugger Mascherano goes, it will be too late to do anything with the money from that deal in any event, plus i doubt it will be a straight lump sum payment anyway, more than likely payments over a 3/ 4 year period. Hodgson is probably cutting his cloth accordingly. We need to be realistic. It could a year at least, until we are able to go after the players this club deserves. Konchesky is a means to an end. If you have a decent memory he'd be a classic Souness signing, so we have been here before!

Ryan Babel backs Roy Hodgson's Liverpool regime after Rafa Benitez fall out

Ryan Babel is convinced he can salvage his Liverpool future after crediting Roy Hodgson with reopening lines of communication between the manager's office and dressing room.
The £11.5million signing from Ajax looked increasingly marginalised towards the end of Rafa Benitez's reign. His prospects under Hodgson appeared little brighter when he scored against Trabzonspor last week only to be substituted at half-time.
Despite the setback, that Europa League episode showed him a side of Hodgson he believes can reinvigorate his Liverpool career after three seasons of frustration.
Speaking ahead of Thursday's return meeting with Trabzonspor, Babel, 23, hailed the new regime of openness under Hodgson.
'I didn't expect to come off, but that was the manager's choice, ' he said. 'He was pretty direct about that and said Fernando Torres was going to play in the second half. He already had that in mind even if I played well.
'I have been through a difficult time at Liverpool, but I look upon this year as a new chapter for me.'
He added: 'I still have two years left on my contract and I love Liverpool. I am settled. If I had the feeling that I have done everything I can here, then maybe I would say that it is time to look at something else. But at the moment I don't have that feeling at all.
'I feel I can give more and be important for Liverpool. I haven't really spoken to the manager about it, because he has been busy with players coming back. But when the transfer window is over, I think we will try and find time to sit down and talk.
'I have been back two weeks and he seems a very honest manager who is very direct with the players. Everyone knows what he is up to and I like that.
'If I am 100 per cent fit and have confidence, I can have an impact here. It doesn't matter who I play with or whether I play behind the strikers or as the highest striker.
'We have a different staff, different people around us and different training sessions and hopefully the change will benefit me.'
Let's hope we can see the best of Babel this season.

Oh dear! ! Konchesky? Diaara? Absolutely clueless potential signings. I think if we do sign ANOTHER defensive midfielder its gonna be a very boring season at Anfiled. Why the hell have we still not signed a good winger yet? ? I am gonna be fuming if we don't sort this problem out. This season is the most important season since Houlier left. We have to get Champions League this season or Liverpool are gonna go down soon enough when the best players leave. In my opinion we need to Buy Ever Banega and sell Lucas. Get that done and were going somewhere! Bring in a good winger and defender with the mascherano funds we recieve. What do these managers do on there days off? A liverpool fan would do much better in the transfer window then the clowns that have been in charge at Anfield for the last 6 years. GET A MOVE ON ***EE* CH***L! !

Regarding Poulsen playing against Arsenal we'll just put that one down to age this time (jokes). As for your points about G.I Jonjo Shelvey I couldn't agree more, some players are just ready because they are good enough. Lucas is no doubt improving all the time but Shelvey just seemed to keep the ball better and make simple passes rarely giving the ball away. The young la should get a chance and Pacheco looked lively in his cameo the other night too.

Wilson is better than konchesky and he can also play left back as he did on many occasionc for rangers. we willend up signing damien duff next the way things are goin!

Wilson has never played a game for Rangers at left back, just because he is left footed does not automatically mean he has played left back. Also if you read the interview with him on Liverpool's website when he first joined, he said he has never played left back.

25 Aug 2010 20:54:52

I hope we give jonjo shelvey a chance as he has the bite of gerrard and the potential to be a great player also on the topic of cacares he would be a great addition to are squad and i hope barca include him in the deal for the traitor.

Why don't we we buy salcido instead of konchesky, he is better goin forward, more versatile, more skillful, an international and cheaper. comon sense! rh needs to get a move on and sell masch in a player plus cash (18m plus cacares and hleb) then use the rest to get us a decent striker and maschs replacment. ive got a bad feeling we won't sign any1, giv in to barca and sell masch for bout 12m and end up finishing below man city and spurs, agen!

With the transfer window nearing a close i do hope we sell Kuyt if its 12-15m, i will wish him well, he has been a great servent to the club, masch can go for 18m in my eyes, if Hleb is in the offering too then think he would be a good addition.
I really hope plans are being looked at in the back ground for a couple of additions, as much as i rate some of our youth, i don't think its right to rely on them. Lets face it, this may be one of our most important seasons for a very long time. I truely hope the sale of the club can be concluded just so we can move on, put the yanks behind us and concentrate on our football instead of headlines for the wrong reasons.
Shelvey to feature tomorrow and put in a man of the match performance.

To the person who said this:

25 Aug 2010 14:17:04
I write on here daily.
No better, no worse than anyone else.
I may foolishly consider myself well edcuated and possibly (at my age - 55) a little more savvy than many.
Truth is, I am confused about what the transfer dealings really say about us, the management and the industry.

Carlton Cole: I've had a soft spot for him. Sort of bustling forward that might power into the box every so often and snatch a stabbed shot into the net, smash a scorcher past the 'keeper or hold everyone off to let another player nip in and score. Truth is, CC appears injury prone and very hit & miss.
I DO have faith in Roy Hodgson and trust him, BUT . . I like many other fans, know a lot about the game. I played it (badly) every Sunday, watched it for 50 years, read about it, coached it at a low level and know what makes the game work. So why do I feel that CC would be a bad buy?
Football is not rocket science and surely I (like thousands of fans and coaches) know enough to make that judgement?
I DO NOT know what Roy may plan for CC or how he would fit into his new strategy, but is CC the answer?
Please don't make it a panic buy.

Man City game: we have panicked in the media, on this site and in the chats with our mates about last Monday's game.
We may be five points behind Chelsea, but it is the start of the seaon.
Do not panic my friends.
We will not win the league this year, but I want us second or third and we are still capable of that.

Torres & Gerrard: the clown who partners Alan Brazil on talkSPORT sugested Torres and Gerrard looked unhappy. So starts a media hype of the negative kind. SG has never been the smiling type and I dismiss that claim.
Torres appears unfit and 'out of sorts' and I expect that to change. This is a difficult time for everyone and we all (including the players) need to keep the faith.
As Oddball in 'Kelly's Heroes' kept saying - "stop hitting me with those negative vibes!"

Trabzonspor: It won't be a walk in the park, but we still have the capability to score away from home.
Aurelio needs to be in at left back (what's the point of having him if we don't want to use him) and I would like to see Shelvey added to the squad.

Shelvey: Impressed with the player and what I have seen of him pre-season (a little) and with Charlton. He reminds me of more mobile Aquilani but with a bit of SG's bite. We bought him and no doubt suggested to him that he would play a strong part in this season's first team. I would like to see him alongside Poulsen and rest Lucas.

Babel: His chances recede with every poor game he has for us. He may say he's feeling under pressure, but at £65,000 per week he should be. At some stage in the very near future (month or so) he will either have to perform or be shipped out.

Poulsen: No decent pre-season but still looked solid if unspectacular in the middle against Arsenal. He is the type of holding player I like; a little less likely to bomb forward every five minutes, but when he edges to wards the box he does think about scoring. Give him time - he will prove a solid buy.

Loic Remy: sorry to read that the player had a heart scare during his medical. He was a player I was interested in, but that's behind us.

Finally . . . I wrote a long treatise on mascherano yesterday in the banter section. I am slightly surprised we talk today of a mere £18 million cash for the player. If Arsenal dug in and wanted £45 million plus for Fabregas, surely we should be suggesting a figure of closer to £25 million for Mascherano?

And yet more finality . . . I reiterate my weekly plea that the younger players (Pacheco, Amoo, Eccleston, Dalle Vale, Shelvey, Ayala and Kelly) be given a real chance in the 'smaller' games.

Always wiling to listen to suggestions, criticisms and other ideas.

Steve Parker

Correct me if i am wrong but i do not believe Poulsen played against Arsenal. Macherano did? {editor's note - and Fabregas has a much much longer contract than Mash.}

25 Aug 2010 20:31:58
"Some senior players have blanked mascherano today in training. hodgson was planning a 4-5-1 formation with mascherano holding against city on monday but mascherano told hodgson in the morn he would not play, he was working on this formation for just the city game and poulson still not match fit so he changed to a 4-4-2 last minute."

Masch isn't in Turkey with the rest of the squad so how could this happen?

25 Aug 2010 20:24:20
Why are people already saying roy will go, , its one game against a team that has spent £130million, their first home game of the season and their first in front of the owner, , cut out all the doom and gloom, support the team

There is going to be no takeover. H&G are negotiating a refinancing package with Barclays Capital. This is a nightmare

Either then or the bank are in control already. .

Hence the reason they got rid of Rafa. . Please explain why they would waste 6mil of there money to sack him when they were being forced to sell? if they were selling why they care about last years position, and in fact a buyer may of wanted rafa at the helm thereby reducing the selling price. . either way why throw 6mil away. . Wake up liverpool fans we're being ripped off and media marketing (storys of sugar daddys etc) used to sell season tickets and shirts while we're are being asset stripped
Masch - Out 25-30mil (the media story will tell the fans we get far less)
Poulson - In Mil
19+mil profit. .

Aqua-Man - out 25-30+ next season (don't believe these 16 mil storys we payed 20 mil while he was still carrying a long term injury fit he would of cost us 25=30 mil)
J Cole - In free (yes higher wages but with masch gone and aqua gone cole and pouslon wages conbined are far less)

Isua - Out 5-7 mil (who ever they can flog him too
Some s* t old left back - In 2odd mill

next year they will flog torres. puslow tried this year with real and barcalona but with his injry and bad world cup real couldnt afford him as they wouldn't of sold the shirts. . next year they will. . maybe even gerrard off the wage bill. . . And johnson will be flogged too. . people(Marketing agents) will be writting in places like here and other forums about how bad he is etc etc so fans want him gone too. . yet they will still get 20+ mil for a player fans can;'t wait to see the back off. .

This is only the begining. . .

25 Aug 2010 19:56:39

In response too the rumour H&G too refinance and no takeover. WRONG the takeover will happen as H&G need it too happen they need their little profit they have made from our great club. BE PATIENT fellow reds the takeover will happen but it will only be for the best offer and not the mistake which happened with the last takeover(thanks Mr Moores) This should all be sorted in 4 to 5 weeks time

In reply to the chap who asked me who i would sooner have on the right wing. if it was a current player i would opt for someone like cole n give babbel a try behind torres i think babbel is crying out for a position like that and we all know cole can beat a man cut in or deliver a great ball, if it was a new player i would try for robben i still can't believe we didn't go for him when he went to bayern last year for around the 12 million mark or sumthing like that what a snip it was and he has repayed that back already.i also believe we need a player that is a constent nuisance up front like tevez but we wouldn't get him and i know we have been linked with him before but i would try for forlan coz he is very similar.

To this guy:

"25 Aug 2010 15:13:56

Does anyone know where i can get a ticket for the game on sunday from, come all the way across the world to watch and looks like ive been scammed online by some prick, or of any legitimate websites i can buy one from, desperate, spent alot of money to get here and never been to anfield, advice would be appreciated"

The only thing I can think of is to try the local media- maybe try the newspaper (Liverpool Echo), or call Radio Merseyside or City FM, also try the club's media department and local tv- its a very long shot, but they might be interested in making a story out of a fan travelling across the world for one game only to find they've been scammed, and they might even give you a ticket to get happy ending for the publicity. Its probably a more common story than we'd like to think, but who knows- worth a few phone calls.

25 Aug 2010 18:47:48
I don't see why people would be disappointed with Konchesky. I watched him closely against Fulham and he kept Valencia quiet and got forward and put in some good balls. ^28

@25 Aug 2010 18:16:32 "Am I the only one who thinks Glen Johnson should be playing the right wing, he's better at attacking than defending"

I happen to know for a fact that the hierarchy were thinking the same thing towards the end of last season. They reckoned back then that Johnson was actually the best crosser of the ball in the squad and that perhaps the better option was to sell Kuyt, move Johnson to right mid and use the money to buy a right back.

"Just a quick retort to the chap who said the following "It will be near enough a disaster if we fail to qualify for the Europa league, for 2 reasons:
1- Finances , the EL is much more financially rewarding than FA cup and League cup put together, and we desperately need the money"

You're massively wide of the mark here. You will be shocked how little the Europa League generates. Fulham generated something in the region of £1.5 million and they reached the final! ! Also, I can't remember which Manager it was, but someone has said in the past that the Europa League cost them money! Seriously though, the gulf in revenues between the CL and EL is HUGE. "

I agree with you the gulf between CL and EL is massive, however for a club like liverpool they'll earn a lot more than 1.5m . simply because more countries and TV stations would want to broadcast their games and pay for it, we made near enough 8m from EL last year and we joined it after the group stages and got to the semis.

Am I the only one who thinks Glen Johnson should be playing the right wing, he's better at attacking than defending give Martin Kelly a shot he's played right back before or bring in someone new, Martín Cáceres has been linked he was popular at Juventus until he got injured either way Glen Johnson is a right midfielder I'm sure of it. {editor's note - as a kid he played centre back, he was awful! I never understood how he got a game, he was even worse as a centre back, he can't read a game at all.}

It wasn't a manager, it was Keith Lamb from Middlesborough, they got to final as well, and he reckoned it was costing them 50grand every home game, still, if you don't fill it what can you expect.

Liverpool are negotiating with Read Madrid over the possible purchase of midfielder Mahamadou Diarra.
OFFICIAL

In reply - would the nasty arrogant Mourinho sell anybody to Liverpool after the article in most newspapers this morning slagging the club off? ?

25 Aug 2010 17:57:47
Although I think Sheik Mohammed al Maktoum of Dubai would be a fantastic new custodian of Liverpool as he apparently supports the club and has unbelievable personal wealth (he won't be buying the club via DIC), but because of rumour posts in the past week or so all Liverpool fans should google Prince Al Waleed Bin Al Saud.

Am i the only supporter that thinks that Maxi should start without a doubt on the right of midfield? ? i also think it is time Carra (who has been a fantastic player for us for the past decade) should be dropped and Agger & Skirtel should be our prefered CB pairing from now on?

Regarding the above

Carra maybe getting on and a bit slower these days but every game this season and last he has still been our best defender? ? Agger was a joke against man city i know he doesn't usually play left back but tough hes young and fast he should do better than that gerrard is a midfielder but i bet if he was put at left back he woulda put more effort in than agger and hes a defender end of the day load of s* te. Also have you forgoten how crap skirtyl was last year?
Agree though that maxi should be first choice right wing with squad we got at the moment but i believe that's where glen johnson should be playing i don't think he cuts it in defence but looks much better going forward he played rw a few times for the england under 21's too hed be perfect.

25 Aug 2010 17:47:36
With less than a week left until deadline day, I don't think we're any closer to signing a striker or left back than we were a month ago.
The sooner Masch goes the better. I've never rated him, and £20mil would be a brilliant price for a player that can't pass, score, has no pace, no desire to play for the club and is suspended half the time.

I don't want to speculate on our season after one bad result, but looking at our team, I can't see a top 4 finish.

INS:
trezeguet - krygiakos + 4m
cacares - swap
hleb - swap
m diarra - free/ 6m

25 man squad -

GK: Reina, Jones
RB: Johson, Kelly
CB: Carragher, Agger, Skrtel, Cacares, Wilson
LB: Aurelio, Insua
RM: Maxi, Kuyt
LM: Jovanovic, Babel, Ben arfa
CM: Gerrard, Lucas, Diarra, Poulsen
CAM: Cole, Hleb
ST: Torres, Trezeguet, Ngog

Plenty of depth, cable of winning things, and cover for important players.

Thanks for the post in the Banter section at 12.25.56 about Liverpool FC and would be saviour Kenny Huang.
We are now starting to be given information about Mr Huang that we previously did not know. He seems to be a bit 'dodgy', a Walter Mitty character and someone who does not have the money or contacts to takeover a greatly admired club throughout the world.

{Editor's Note: Sorry but if you read this site regularly you will have seen a lot of information posted about the credibility of Kenny Huang from the day his name was first mentioned.}

YES I READ THIS LIVERPOOL RUMOURS/ BANTER SITE DAILY. IT IS FANTASTIC. GREAT ENTERTAINMENT. BUT SOME POSTS STILL SEEM TO WELCOME THE WHOLE KENNY HUANG / THE TIMES/ TONY EVANS DEBACLE. THANKS ANYWAY.

I find it funny that we loose one game away to Man City and suddenly its all doom and gloom (and you call yourselves LFC fans) remember when we finished second in the PL we lost against Middlesbrough! !
As for the person who said RH will go in November if we arn't in the top 4 I think you need to stop licking those brightly coloured frogs there not good for you!

Nemeth agent: "Liverpool told us that it is not the question of quality but a financial decision. As it is with others out this season."

As you can see we have no money. Kuyt will probably be forced to leave and Hodgson will not get the money from Kuyts sale. Only incoming will be Konchesky (Sigh) and possibly another average player.

as much as id love this side to be assembled, however it cannot until the takeover is complete. We shouldnt have signed povlsen and play shelvey off the bench as hes got the fire in the belly and would be a great back up to banega.David trezeguet would be a OK short term solution till we are taken over but long term it would have to be a young starlet of the future. pazzini of sampdoria would be a great signing for me.I do think torres is still laying with a injury and he wasnt chasing down defenders or the goalkeeper on monday like usual. im worried about his situation.I hope editor that you could shed some light on would happen and who would take over. I want D.I.C boss maktoum as he would put us back on top of british and european football.

25 Aug 2010 16:43:39

I think it was clear for all to see on Monday that our issues, apart from a last minute change of formation after JM spat his dummy out, is a lack of genuine pace, trickery and crossing ability from the wings.
I'd love us to nuy Turan and Ben Arfa, but how's this for a "no cost" interim alternative. Play Aurelio and Kelly at LB and RB respectively. Push Insua and Johnson to LW and RW. For me, Insua is technically a very good player, just not a great defender. Redknapp converted Bale into a Left Midfielder and right now, the boy looks World Class. This would free up Jovanovic and Kuyt (providing he stays) to take turns in providing some muscle and hold up play alongside Fernando. Maxi, Pacheco, Amoo could then be used as primary back up on the wings. What do you guys think?

Caceres to liverpool as part of the Masc deal. . . TAKE NOTE! !

If Liverpool could do a deal for Caceres in any form, this would be a great deal for our club. The little known 23 year old was signed for 16m from villareal 2 years ago and the only reason he can't get a steady run in the side is because puyol, pique and Marquez are all ahead of him! and lets face it. who would be good enough to be chosen ahead of those three! He was loaned out to Juventus and was a fans fav before injury cut his season short. In my opinion a better player than salcido, Konchesky, figaroa or Bridge! all of which are too old and over priced!

ISN'T MARQUEZ GONE FORM BARCA? , if this fella is so "unknown" why didi he cost £16million ?

Not sure if i want spurs to go through, are not tonight, if they do they will have a harder task in the league playing a weakened side in the league like we have had to do, when our sqaud wasnt big enough, it could cost them ten points this season, are do we want them to look stupid and go out, i can't make my mind up, also we will see our good we are on sun against wba, darren cooper, come on you reds"

I'm hoping they do get through as they'll have a far harder time in the CL and we need Prem clubs to maintain their success in the comp so we can keep four places.

Afternoon all ;->
I'm going to try and dispel a few myths on here if I may, whilst some posters seem to be making a genuine stab at realism, most do not!
1, Mascherano will be sold, there will be no replacement.
2, Takeover will NOT be concluded in time to RH funds.
3, There will be NO signings of note.
4, We've been turned down by 2nd rate players all through the transfer window.
5, Aquilani was loaned out to relieve our wage bill.

Roy is a temporary fix, why does anyone think he's not been given any money to spend, he even said at the weekend that should he get 50m before end of window he couldnt spend it. He claims to want to "see all my players perform" before spending any money, yet AA was loaned out, we've just got him fit for the first time in 12 months, and fooks me, Juve end up with him!
RH will not be given any funds, why? because the people that run our club do not trust him to spend wiseley, and I'll shove my cock in a blender if he's still in charge next summer, new owners will want their money investing carefully, RH is not that man.
Why do you think the likess of Luke young, and now Koncheskey are reluctant to join? If you were a crap player would you join a club that was about to have millions bestowed upon it? Neither would I.
RH is turning us into Bolton 'fooking wanderers'
No wonder Kuyt and Masch are flirting with inter and Barca.
I'll also bet that Purslow had more to do with Stevie and Nando staying than RH.
He's already proved that he's tactically inept. 4- 4-2 away at Man city was suicide, it was men against boys, embarrassing really. If that was the level of his tactical nous, then a long hard season we'll be in for. Did everyone hear the 'Rafa' song at Eastlands?
If you are remotely clued up and understand the intricate nuances of the game, you'll understand why RH has had to wait 63 years to be offered a job of note, and the captain of a sinking ship is hardly a resume' buster is it? ?
Dark days to come my friends. .

Ridgebackred. . {editor's note - neither Young nor Konchesky have been bid for. Young was never the subject of a bid by Liverpool, it was a club in London and SSN, and all the other nonsense peddlers in the media, just linked us because we make for better headlines.}

So when you think about it he is worth about £20mil if we can get close to that, we should take it, he wants away, and we need the money to rebuild!
What do you think ed?

{Editor's Note: I have said all along that £15M to £18M is about the going rate.}

Surely with michael essien costing chelsea £24m and yaya toure costing city £28m, the 'going' rate for a player who is arguably better than both should be higher? {editor's note - you can't seriously believe Mash is close to Essien's level can you? Plus Mash has 18 months left on his contract, doesn't score goals, can only pass 5 yards or less and doesn't want to stay. All of that reduces his sale price.}

Well that will just surprised you that much more when he's worth 40-50 mil within a season or 2 at Barcelona. . he's an all round midfielder he was played at DM (just like gerrard first was and essien at chelsea etc) but once at Barcelona he will be given more freedom to go forward and when the goals start flooding in your'll all realise why rafa valued him at 50mil. (and before you ask if rafa had someone more reliable for DM then he would of given Masch this freedom but couldn't risk it)

Plus for all you haters of Masch. . DO YOUR RESEARCH! type in "Mascherano's wife" and your'll see the REAL reason he's going. . he should of left last year but rafa asked him to give us another year (AGAINST THE WILL OF HIS FAMILY). . so before you continue to rubbish him or slag him off just think about it. . he's given us far FAR more than most player would as your own family should always come first. . But we should get a good fee off him as Barcelona and everyone else within football know what his worth will be be very very soon. . . {editor's note - that rubbish about Mash's wife is just that: rubbish. She can speak enough English to get by, it is an excuse to get a move. As for your fantasy about him being an all-round midfielder, it is just that - a fantasy. He is not going to rack up shed loads of goals at Barca, or anywhere else he goes, because he is not good enough.}

25 Aug 2010 16:13:42
I believe its an absolute travesty that Ryan Babel was dismissed by Rafa and now Roy too.

He played 45mins against the turks and scored then was subbed :S

Then he came on against city, and had a pile driver saved by a fantastic Joe Hart. He is willing to take on players and shoot, more than Jova.

Why isn't he given an opportunity, he is a quality player with abundance of pace and skill, i believe he hasnt played his best as a result of self esteem problems as he has been warming up the bench longer than any other liverpool player in past seasons.

What u reckon Ed? {editor's note - he is lazy, has an attitude problem and is not good enough anyway. He was awful against the Turks, if he hadn't scored everyone would have been disgusted with his performance. He needs to pull his finger out and work for the team and try harder in training.}

25 Aug 2010 16:10:18

We cannot continue to be beaten with the "Torros & Gerrard will leave us" stick. Do you know something if the go then let them go. Torros needs to get his finger out anyway and show that he wants to play. It's been over 12 months since he has out in a decent performance. Mascharno should not be sold for a penny less than our valuation. Fine him 2 months wages for his antics, hold his playing licence and send him on gardening leave. Above all refuse to deal with Barcelona unless they guarentee that that agent of his will not get a penny out of any move.
Clubfirst always

I think kevin doyle would be the best buy for liverpool with lil amount of money we have better than cole not joe now c.cole what do you think ed

Swizel me timber {editor's note - I don't think either are good enough, but Doyle is better than Cole.}

Not sure if i want spurs to go through, are not tonight, if they do they will have a harder task in the league playing a weakened side in the league like we have had to do, when our sqaud wasnt big enough, it could cost them ten points this season, are do we want them to look stupid and go out, i can't make my mind up, also we will see our good we are on sun against wba, darren cooper, come on you reds

Re:- Why is no 1 suggesting tht we go 4 hangeland at the bk get him 4 around 10 mil if we sell masc

Centre back is not a priority, we have enough cover and "decent" players there.

At the end of last season / start of the transfer window, the vast majority of posters on this site I believe would have put in priority, or at least top 5 in any order:-

1 - Left Back
Aurellio is not really what I was thinking of

2 - Penetrating Left Winger
Jovanavic still has the jury out

3 - Forward
Kuyt may be the replacement, although it looks more like Cole is going to play there regularly

4 - Cenre Mid replacement for Masch
Poulsen has arrived and first game seemed okay. I would have loved Milner or Ramires, (honestly the steal of the transfer window at £18m ish).

5 - Penetrating Right Winger
The chance to use Glen Johnson there now Kelly has emerged as a real talent, plus the pre-season form of Amoo may save us the need to buy anyone.

So in summary, not one of these positions have been filled by anything that has instantly caught the eye, but Rome wasn't built in a day and it seems we shall have to build over a period of time, rather than instantly, which is in line with appointing Roy, rather than a Pelligrini etc.
We still need to remeber the 2 most improtant deals were to keep Torres and Gerrard here for at least another year.

Not that it makes it any easier, but I don't think we're the only big team who are going to go to Eastlands and get anything except a real footballing lesson. Let's get them back to Anfield and return the favor ! !

Editor do you have any idea where i can get legitimate tickets for the game this weekend, think ive been stooged {editor's note - I don't mate, the person I used to get my tickets off has now retired (selfishly, if you ask me!) due to old age.}

25 Aug 2010 15:39:07
Why do we need to go and buy average L/ B like Konchesky, when we've got a quality player in Aurellio not even getting a look in. ROY , WAHY SIGN HIM IF YOUR NAOT GOING TO PLAY HIM ? ?. Instead of playing Agger out of position ! ! . SOS GUYS, BUT I THINK WEVE GOT THE WRONG MANAGER FOR OUR GREAT CLUB.

25 Aug 2010 15:36:50
Everybody don't forget hodgson is trying to go by with these average players until Jan when we would have definately been taken over and we could buy players like turanand etc. . just as long we are no more than 7-8 points away from the lead come Jan then we will still have a chance should hodgson buy the right players and not paying overprice to get average english players like milner.

25 Aug 2010 15:35:18

Kevin Doyle is the man for the job, if he was in a big club he is well capable of upping his game. When he plays for Ireland he has to up his play as he has rubbish all around him. he would cost little and has all the Prem experience. .

25 Aug 2010 15:34:02
If Liverpool can sell Masch for 30m euros shld look to bring in (in euros):

Ola Toivonen - 9m
Hatem Ben Arfa - 6-7m
Carlos Salcido - 4m
Then 1 of: Balazs Dzudzak or Mahmadou Diarra (10m)

25 Aug 2010 15:32:09
I agree with who ever sent the comment about jamie carragher he is not the player he was but to say maxi should start is a joke he is rubbish and can't keep hold of the ball neither can he go past a player.i like the bloke but not at liverpool.

25 Aug 2010 15:31:20
There seems to be a lot of talk regarding lots more transfers before the end of the transfer window - both in and out of LFC. Realistically, there will probably be only 1-2 at most coming in before Tuesday, with Masch likely to be the only departures

A lot of people are on the back of Lucas and Kuyt, but we will have them here till at least christmas, (Lucas almost definitly till next year), because otherwise it's too much change in too short a space of time.

Roy's done very well so far getting out a lot of deadwood, the likes of El Zahar and Pleasis still may go out on loan, however the Kuyt's, Lucas's and Babel's of the world will have to stay one more year.

Roy will have a more efficient, effective and LFC passionate team by next year and this is the "transition" that always seems to happen with new managers, think Rafa and if we didn't win in Istanbul and history is probably repeating itself. I am putting money on us winning the League cup this year as I think it'll be the best chance of success. I honestly think our league placing will be 5th

25 Aug 2010 15:26:57

Why, when we need a decent striker with a proven record is no one suggesting we look at Etoo.

Etoo is on £175 a week (or equivalent in euros) i don't see that fitting into our wage structure. If we could get him on loan and only have to pay 60% of his wages that would be a good deal!

Personally think that liverpool should go all out to get Van der Vaart and Fabiano. . . .we DO NOT need a left back as we have aurellio, Wilson and if we are strugglin Agger (who would be starting at centre back if other two are fit)

25 Aug 2010 15:26:57
For me lucas and kuyt have to go, the key to a good team is pace on the wing it works for man u, man city, chelsea , we need a player like lennon or a.young, someone to beat thae last man cos torres aint getting nothing from kuyt or jov, or maybe its time to say goodbye to torres a player w all love but injury prone at the highest level , to sacrifice him to improve might be the way foeward, or a massive takeover comes in and we keep torres and buy messi kaka iniesta lol

25 Aug 2010 15:26:20

Our team should be at this present time

reina
johnson skrtel agger aurelio

poulsen

maxi gerrard cole

Does anyone know where i can get a ticket for the game on sunday from, come all the way across the world to watch and looks like ive been scammed online by some prick, or of any legitimate websites i can buy one from, desperate, spent alot of money to get here and never been to anfield, advice would be appreciated

Just been reading comments on this page , Everyone is egar to get monster mash out which is understanable due to his personal prob's everyone is thinking what to do with the cash.
I say keep him, with his two years left in his contract and the need to keep our STAR players. If we want that top spot we need to keep him are we going to spend our money on players like Konchesky WHY o WHY SURLY THE GREAT NAME OF liverpool football club has'nt gone that far down hill not in my eyes. We don't need to spend 3.5 million pounds on him. We have kelly, wilson and fabio keep the money for some one else. A wide player ( A young ) would be great though i know it would be tight to get the money for the player but i would like to see kyut go and use MAXI on the right. We need great ENGLISH talent in our team what ever was said to steve and el nino i feel it was layed on rather thick ! ! ! we need investment and soon it is taking so long ! ! Read in the paper that Keith Harris is reporting a overseas buyer and has completed the due diligence part with a offer of 500 million

Stop getting carried away hey, we lost 3nil away at city, bad result against a team that's spent 400 mil in 3 years and had a point to prove with the sheik being there, while masch spoiled our preperations and Joe Hart was incredible. This was a far better city team than the 1 that won 2-4 at stamford bridge, that hammered arsenal home and away last season, that were robbed of a point against utd in the 96th minute, and they beat us fair and square, but we have got 36 games to play yet and we've had 2 of the hardest matches were gonna have all season out the way. Lets make sure we get behind the team now and get some momentum behind us before we next meet one of the big boys

25 Aug 2010 14:35:56
Right, lets think about the Mach deal carefully, Mach is a DM so isn't a goal scorer this is reflected in his 139 appearances and has only scored 2 goals! So for those of you who think we should hold out for £25-30 mil, get real! Yes he is the best in his position and is captain of his country, and what Mascherano lacks in height, he makes up for in power, and the sight of our No.20 thundering across the field to recover possession is familiar. But his temper is a problem and often leads to bookings!
So when you think about it he is worth about £20mil if we can get close to that, we should take it, he wants away, and we need the money to rebuild!
What do you think ed?

{Editor's Note: I have said all along that £15M to £18M is about the going rate.}

This is rubbish. Barca want Mascherano to replace Yaya Toure, who they sold to Man City for £28m. Mascherano is better than Toure. He is the Argentina captain, and still only 26 so not yet reached his peak.

I'm not saying we'll get his full worth, but I'm fed up of people not seeing through other clubs taking us for mugs. We played hard-ball with Real over Xabi, and got what we wanted. Apart from that I can't remember the last time we sold a player for his true worth.

{Editor's Note: You cannot equate the value of one player in a transaction between Barcelona and Manchester City agaisnt the value of a totally different player in a transaction between Liverpool and any other club - be it Barcelona or not. I have no idea at all how you have constructed your view of "true worth", but the value of a player is the price the two clubs agree. It has been said before that the only way we will get more for JM is if two clubs are seriously interested in the player.}

POSSIBLE LIVERPOOL 25-MAN SQUAD!

GK- Reina, Jones, Gulacsi
LB- Konchesky, Aurelio
RB- Johnson, Kelly
CB- Carra, Agger, Skrtel, Wilson
LM- Jovanovic, Babel
RM- Ben Arfa, Maxi
CM- Gerrard, Pouslen, Lucas, Shelvey, Spearing
AM- Cole
ST- Torres, Toivonen, N'Gog, Pacheco

Ins:
Toivonen, Cole, Jovanovic, Ben Arfa, Poulsen, Shelvey, Konchesky, Wilson, Jones

Outs:
Nemeth, Benayoun, Riera, Kuyt, Mascherano, Aquilani (Loan), Insua, Degan (Loan), Kyrgiakos, Cavalieri.

Not only is this squad much improved, we will have made a pretty big profit for future investment in the squad. Press believe if you like this squad! ! !

Not a transfer rumour but about the Mascherano situation v Man City
Apparently RH had us training for 3 days playing a 4 - 5 - 1 with Masch as the holding player and Stevie supporting Nando.
Masch then decides last minute that he wasn't playing and messed the whole weeks training up.
He's now been told to train on his own with the players refusing to work with him.

25 Aug 2010 14:29:08
As much as I agree that Konchesky isn't the best left back in the world, under new rules he is english and that is important this year in particular, so having an english full back with proven premiership experience makes sense rather than buying a foreign full back, who may take time to adapt, struggle with the language etc.
Carlton Cole for me simply isn't gonna get 20 goals a season, but i doubt toivonen would either, and again he's English.
I would prefer us to make a move for Doyle or Zamora in that department given the budget roy has at his disposal currently.
AMOO, ECCLESTON, PACHECO, DA LA VALLE if they are good enough, they are Old enough so in that respect I'd rather spend no money now on a striker and give these lads a chance and when the takeover is complete, then go after suarez and aguero.
Dnt know why people keep saying sell kyrgiakos either, remember how he nailed fellaini, was our best player against trabzponspor and hasn't really put a foot wrong since he arrived for people to slate him so much, plus his experience can only benefit the up and coming forwards training against him every day and thr young defenders

{Editor's Note: Sorry but if you read this site regularly you will have seen a lot of information posted about the credibility of Kenny Huang from the day his name was first mentioned.}

"Come on guys please, Paul Konchesky! really? is that what we can look forward to from now on? What happend to players wanting to come to our once proud and mighty club, now we are stick looking forward to the possibility of signing very average players. it looks like it could be a long and hard season if this is what we all aspire to.

Let Mach go, he has been great for us and simply wants to move on so his family are happier, we would all do the same if necessary. With the Mash money we could sign a half decent back up forward for Torres and some cover so Johnson can attack more. It's hard to say but Carra's legshave gone, Dagger and Skirts in the middle from now on is a must. I have no idea on the logic of letting Aqua go on loan and keeping Lucas, utter maddness, Banega might fill in the gap but still madness"

So, on the one hand you say we're now stuck with signing just average players and on the other hand you want Woy to go and buy only a HALF decent back up forward! You're contradicting yerself mate.
The Goatherder

25 Aug 2010 13:54:16
All liverpool need is pace. Pace Pace PACE! And a lot more depth and width in the style of play. We need to bring in Ben Arfa, he's fast skilful and wants to come to the prem, but we're only going to get him if we sell off Mascherano for £20m

Gomez seems the best striker out of whom we've been linked with. Overall he's £30m so that must say something.
Get him on loan and then next season snap him up for £15m and maybe bring in Ruiz.

Lets see, Ruiz, Gomez and Ben arfa. That will make Liverpools play more enjoyable to watch and will umph the pace. As for a left back, why not new signing Wilson?
These are realistic transfers which need to happen otherwise ill be annoyed.

Wish people would stop being pessimistic. Ok it was a bad result on Monday but at the last minute spoilt brat Mascherano upset senior players, messed up Roys tactics meaning we had to go 4-4-2 rather than 4-2-3-1 (which is the way forward in modern football, literally) Torres isn't quite there with his fitness or sharpness, Gerrard was carring Lucas for most the game, Agger was covering left back and Cole was suspended. City also took there chances well, while at 2-0 Hart made a fantastic triple save, had that gone in we were back in it but we gave away a bad penalty minutes later. Game over
The club will be sold sooner or later.
Want away players will be sold with players who want to give 100% coming in which is likely to be a striker, LB and CM.
It will take time for new players to gel but the spirit and right manager are there. Its a long season so don't give up after one bad game its not the Liverpool way.

I hope the club sit on the bid until after we play West Brom and sit Mascherano in the Main Stand.

"25 Aug 2010 13:06:36
Ed - Darren Bent not good enough for LFC? I think from Monday nights performance it is clear we are not going to get top players anymore.

We are a club now borderline for Europe as Everton have been for years.

Get used to it. We need to produce some players. Our best comes from within."

Bent struggled at Spurs, he is a player that shines when he gets 99% of the service at smaller clubs. Even if he didn't go missing when tasked with pressure, as at Spurs or on occassions for England, Sunderland have no need to sell their top scorer and he seems settled at a lower level.

25 Aug 2010 13:19:30

The problem with linking average strikers like Carlton Cole (for example), who score around the 10-12 goal mark each year for their current clubs, (or even players who score lots of goals in lower standard leagues like Kuyt did in Holland) is that "all clubs are not created equal". Very very few Liverpool signings over the past 10 years have come in and actually been a success. This, I believe, is due to 2 main reasons:
1)Massive pressure to perform instantly at a big club. This is something only Man U and Chelsea and ourselves have, but they (unfortunately) have the players and squad depth to cope with this, hence their success over the last years. We on the other hand rely on Gerrard and Torres far too much, and it looks to me like torres has lost a lot of his pace since his injuries.
2)Every team in the Premier league has figured out how easy it is to beat us (or at least get a draw) in the last few seasons: Get lots of men behind the ball, attack Carragher with pace, and set peices. Teams set up more defensively against Liverpool than they do against Man U and Chelsea, not because we have an awesome array of attacking players, but because if we are faced with two banks of four, we simply will not score 95% of the time.

For LFC to progress it requires a complete overhall of our team, spirit, mentality and tactics. We need to promote our technically gifted youths, change our style of play, and be willing to spend obscene amounts of money on players who will help us in our quest for number 19.
Feels good to get something off my chest! Any comments from anyone are welcome!

Can people please stop talking about huang! He was never a serious player in the takeover of the club, just a mere plonked seeking to use the plight of the club to enhance his reputation.
And also please use this site for more realistic news than the following:

"On a different note: Would it be such a great tagedy if we're out of Europa League? I'll want us to win everything, but with risk of injuries, Thursday euro games then Sunday games, we'll be out of the system of things, wouldn't we? Please don't attack me for wanting us to lose, but the league and maybe FA cup should be our priority, or am I completely wrong?"

It will be near enough a disaster if we fail to qualify for the Europa league, for 2 reasons:
1- Finances , the EL is much more financially rewarding than FA cup and League cup put together, and we desperately need the money
2- Prestige (Which attracts players to the club), which half decent player would want to come to a club that fails to even qualify for the Europa league group stages, which is far inferior to the champions league.
I am very worried about Thursday , I just think your wish may come true . and we would be in big trouble.

KEITH Harris the Premier League's top deal-maker, claims a mystery buyer is close to making a bid of up to £500million for Liverpool.

Harris, who has assisted in the sales of West Ham, Aston Villa and Manchester City, says he is representing a potential overseas buyer for the club who has already cleared the first hurdle of completing due diligence.

Moreover, he said it was different to any of the names that have already been bandied around, with current co-owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett making no secret of their need for outside investment.

The move comes just a week after Hong Kong businessman Kenny Huang pulled out of a bidding war.

However, Harris, who fronted an approach from Kuwaiti Nasser Al Khorafi two years ago before his client pulled out at the last minute, warned that this latest venture is also in danger of collapsing.

"The overseas buyer we represent has completed due diligence. A huge amount of work has been done, " he said. It is none of the groups mentioned in the press. The ball is now in our client's court to make an offer. If the name of the prospective buyer comes out before the deal is done then probably it is never going to be done.

"In any takeover situation, when people resort to announcing it to the media, you have to question the seriousness of the offer." Harris was in meetings yesterday afternoon and unable to comment on why, given the publicity-sensitive nature of negotiations, he had brought the possibility of a fresh bid to the attention of the wider world in the first place.

One suggestion is that it suits Liverpool that an authority such as Harris is hinting at a figure waiting in the wings just as the list of possible suitors has dried up. Huang was denied the chance to speak to the board exclusively about a deal and is understood to be holding on to negotiate in the absence of competition. Yahya Kirdi's high-profile interest has been treated with scepticism from the outset.

But Harris pointed out that time is running out for Liverpool's American owners. "I don't think the deal will be done before the transfer window closes this month but the next pressure point is October, when some of the Royal Bank of Scotland loan of £237m has to be repaid, " he said. "It may happen then. But in the present climate these things are impossible to predict."

While it means there may not be any new arrivals to reinvigorate the club following the 3-0 defeat by Manchester City on Monday night, Javier Mascherano's exit to Barcelona looks increasingly likely.

Yesterday, he faced a backlash from senior players when he reported for training after he left the club in the lurch in the build-up to the game and forced a late rethink of the tactics.

Manager Roy Hodgson had to admit he did not know where his player was and when he did reappear at Melwood, he was given short shrift by team-mates who are furious at the way he has dealt with the growing speculation.

Barca coach Pep Guardiola said yesterday he was just a defensive midfielder away from completing his jigsaw ahead of the new La Liga season but refused to be drawn on names.

Nevertheless, Hodgson said: "His head is being turned by Barcelona. Unfortunately the fee they are offering is way below our valuation. But that does not make the player any happier because he is not interested in the justice of the fee, he just wants to move and it makes it uncomfortable for us."

Barcelona's £12m bid does include likely add-ons to take it up to £16.6m, but that is still short of Liverpool's £20m valuation or the £18m they paid West Ham for him in 2007.

Now fans have started to turn on the Argentina captain. They vented their fury on the local newspaper website, describing him as an "idiot" and urging the club to "stop paying him and get rid of him as soon as possible".

The credibility of Liverpool's would-be saviour Kenny Huang is thrown into further doubt today with revelations that he has a history of making claims about his background and business interests that swing between exaggeration and falsehood.
Huang has been hailed as Liverpool's would-be saviour in some quarters since early August, but withdrew from the bidding process without explanation on Friday.
Sources say he pulled out after failing to produce evidence of funds, and failing to identify his backers. This development came amid ongoing but unsubstantiated claims that he has the backing of China's $332bn CIC sovereign wealth fund, and that he may re-enter the fray.
Yet Huang's background suggests that any grandiose claims about him, or by him, should be scrutinised carefully rather than taken at face value.
A three-week investigation by sportingintelligence has unearthed disturbing evidence that Huang has fabricated information about his studies at prestigious American universities, has claimed to be in a position of power at one of China's biggest, richest banks (which the bank denies), and, as we previously revealed, has personally claimed to be the head of a group that owned a 15 per cent stake in an NBA basketball franchise, which was never true.
There are myriad claims that don't stand up to scrutiny, and sportingintelligence will detail them today. Those mentioned in the previous paragraph are among the most serious because Huang made the claims himself under oath in January this year, in a federal court in Miami, during a civil trial in which he prevailed (and was awarded costs of more than $300,000) – after convincing a jury of his innocence.
Huang's bid for Liverpool, and its credibility or otherwise, is important for several reasons.
Liverpool are historically one of England's most prized football assets, and desperately need new owners and new finance to take them forward. As things stand, their fans remain in the dark about when or if that will happen.
Huang's "credibility" was established to the extent that reports of a potential Huang-CIC-LFC deal even reached the front pages as well as the back pages.
This in turn led to serious analysis and interpretation by economists and geo-political observers in respectable publications about the role of "new China" in the wider world.
And if CIC, with Huang as the frontman, had bid or ever do bid for Liverpool, as part of a new spurt of international Chinese cultural expansion, it would be an enormous story, in sporting, economic and political terms. That's why sportingintelligence started to look at it in such depth.
But was it actually true? Is it? And if not, how did so many people come to believe it?
It has been difficult to know for sure what is true about Huang's bid, not least because those speaking on his behalf (latterly, officially, the London and Hong Kong offices of the PR firm, Hill & Knowlton, with others briefing in the shadows) have been unable or unwilling to respond to some of the simplest questions about his background.
Hence the importance of an official trial transcript (publicly available), where Huang, in his own words and under oath, makes claims about his own background.
To stress: he won the case in question in a jury hearing. He has also won other legal actions against him, pending appeal(s); and his Florida lawyer says there is only one outstanding judgement against him, surrounding unpaid debts of $788, 300.54, plus interest, dating back to 1998. Huang is appealing that.
But the testimony in the January case about his background is so important because it is a rare (perhaps sole) example of Huang making personal statements that have been officially recorded and cannot be claimed as out of context or misquotes.
In his testimony (and the relevant parts of the transcript are here):
• CLAIM Huang said, in the present tense, that he was the leader of a group that owned 15 per cent of the NBA basketball team, the Cleveland Cavaliers. That stake, if true, would have been worth around $70m. Huang's direct quote is: "I am the leader of the group that has 15 per cent of the ownership." Asked to clarify that he leads an investment group that owns 15 per cent of the Cavs, he replies: "Correct."
• DENIAL A spokesman at the NBA's head office in New York has issued sportingintelligence with a statement saying: "Mr. Huang has never had any ownership interest in the Cleveland Cavaliers or any other NBA team."
.
• CLAIM Huang said, while talking about his business interests: "I'm sitting on the board of Bank of Communications, assets management, which is the fourth largest bank in China." The bank is indeed one of China's biggest, with almost 70,000 employees and revenues in the billions. A Hill & Knowlton spokesman backed up Huang's claim of a role on an assets board.
• DENIAL Eric Pan, a deputy senior manager at the Bank of Communications' HQ in Shanghai, has issued sportingintelligence with a statement saying: "I would like to confirm that Mr. Huang does NOT have any position at our bank, nor has he ever held any position at our bank or at the Board of our bank."
.
• CLAIM Huang said he worked at the New York Stock Exchange "starting the end of 87". This would coincide with the end of the only period of his US education that has yet been verified: just four months at Columbia University from September to December 1987, as documented below by the official body in the USA that provides such data.

• CLAIM Huang adds in his testimony: "The New York Stock Exchange sent me to another school, New York University. When I was working there, I also attended the MBA program". Separately, on a website of one of Huang's other companies, Aspen (now effectively defunct), there is the claim that Kenny Huang "completed the MBA financial management courses at New York University, New York when he was working in Wall Street in the 80s."
• DENIAL But Andrew Morton, an administrator at the NYU graduate records and registrations office (which holds information on all past and present MBA students), has told sportingintelligence there is no record of Kenny Huang, under either his Chinese or anglicised names, at NYU, either on the computer records, which date back to the early 1980s, nor within any hard-copy records of attendance or graduation at any time. "You'd be surprised how often people say they attended but actually didn't, " Mr Morton said.
.
• Huang says in his testimony he graduated from St John's University in New York with a Master's, majoring in Japanese. Sportingintelligence requested confirmation of this on 16 August from the relevant official body in the USA, and is awaiting a reply. If Huang did obtain a Master's at Columbia, his timeline of education during his testimony is misleading. As and when confirmation is available, it will be updated here.
.
• Elsewhere in the testimony, Huang also says he was voted the No1 philanthropist in China in 2009. This may be the case, but despite repeated requests, no spokesperson can point to any evidence of this. It may indeed exist, but we have been unable to locate it independently. But Huang is not listed anywhere on the 2009 Hurun Philanthropy list, which comprises the top 100 philanthropists in China by volume of donations in 2009.
.
• Huang claims he was "well known in China" at a period in 2002 when he was asked to travel there on behalf of a US-based company. But established figures in business and sporting circles in China insist Kenny Huang was not well known in China at that time. Huang says he was associated with the Houston Rockets and Yao Ming but he merits no mention in Yao's autobiography, which details a long cast of people who helped Yao move from China to the USA in 2002.
.
Within the Chinese media, there is incredulity about Huang's involvement in any Liverpool bid. Yan Qiang, also known by his anglicised name of John Yan, is the vice-president of Titan Sports, China's most prominent and authoritative sports newspaper. Yan is a respected commentator on sport and sports business in China, and a regular contributor to the Chinese edition of the FT, as when writing here earlier this month on Huang and Liverpool.
"Kenny Huang only made his name and came to most people's attention in China for the first time in 2009 when he was linked to the proposal for the Cavaliers, " Yan told sportingintelligence today. "Certainly I had never heard of him before then, and he has no track record in sport in China before then.
"Ever since the story broke that he wanted to purchase Liverpool, the reaction from China's sports marketing industry has been the same: nobody trusted it. In most people's view, he didn't seem to be a serious businessman in this industry; and a lot of people don't think that he knows much about sports business.
"His own claim as the minority owner of the NBA franchise Cleveland Cavaliers has long been denied; NBA China has been telling all media that Huang was not the buyer, and the negotiation was not serious enough.
"There is a serious question mark over his intention to buy LFC. Everyone knows that managing a professional football club, from a purely investment point of view, would not be sound business. The claims that CIC or another sovereign fund's involvement are rootless. But at least Huang got huge publicity, because all Chinese media has been following up this news."
Sportingintelligence has asked dozens of questions about Kenny Huang's background and business dealings over the past two weeks to Kenny Huang, and / or to Hill & Knowlton on his behalf, to Huang's Florida lawyer about the disputed claims in his testimony, and to Huang's Chicago-based business partner, Marc Ganis. The vast majority remain unanswered.

{Editor's Note: Hopefully we can now put the Huang nonsense to rest.}

Right listen guys and gals. Stop getting all excited about we might sign the likes of Carlton Cole or Kon-bloody-chesky (currently carrying an injury) or any other g* s-poor middle ranking dross that keeps getting mentioned. Do you seriously believe they are of a calibre to wear the shirt? the sort of players with the skill and talenty to get us back into the top four by Christmas and keep us there until May? Are they hell as like, nowhere near.

The situation is this. We MUST get back to top 4 this season (not next) or we lose Torres and Gerrard. That is not a 'might' or a 'possibly' - it will happen. They are class players and they have a right to be in a team that seriously challenges for major honours as potential winners. To get back to the top 4 we need to have a squad - player-for-player and here and now - significantly better than Spurs and Everton so that they are not a threat, and also better than one of Man Utd, Arsenal, City and Chelsea. Otherwise forget 4th place and wave bye-bye to Torres and Gerrard, one possibly as early as January if we chuck in another couple of performance like Monday between now and Christmas. Look at our games between now and the end of October. We could be out of a top four finish as early as then if we don't seriously buck-up and raise our game several levels starting this weekend.

Now then, do you seriously believe that players of the calibre of Carlton Cole and Konchesky are going to help us back in to the top 4? Come on, be serious. Aurelio? Joe Cole (currently suspended which is probably why he's not yet injured)?

I see quality players leaving (Masch, Aquilani, possibly Kuyt maybe others ) to be replaced by has-beens, crocks, low quality and journeymen coming in. I cannot believe we are seriously looking at players who are actually worse than the likes of Djimi Traore, Biscan, Cheyrou, Cisse etc. It just beggers belief that we are stooping so low. If we are looking at players of that calibre then perhaps we shouldn't be looking at all and we should use the talent we've got in the reserves instead. It's at least as good, won't cost anything and they've got a point to prove.

Me thinks the situation at Anfield is far worse than we are being led to believe. Me thinks that was the cause of the lack-lustre performance against City. If we play Thursday night with the same attitude we played on Monday then we will be dumped ot of Europe as well.

Why is everyone saying kuyt is rubbish, if it was not for him last season Liverpool would of finished lower than they did. At the end of it there is a big picture, the team are not playing as a team, Kuyt is not a winger, played behing Torres they would make trouble for any defence.
Liverpool need players who want to play football and Kuyt is one of those players. He needs to be played where he would do damage, that being with torres. Just really not sure about the manager.
Liverpool need wingers, they are a better team when they play out wide instead of trying to walk the ball into the back of the net thru the middle all the time"

Sorry mate, but i can't agree. To be a good target man/ link up player behind the goal scorer you need a good touch or the ability to pick out the right pass and i can't say i'd classify Kuyt as having either. He works moderately well on the wing because when hugging the touchline he usually has no one man-marking him so he can get a second touch to bring the ball under control - in the centre of the park he'd be under coinstant pressure. He works hard, but he can't beat players 1 on 1, doesn't have the touch to bring the ball under instant control and move play further up the field and his shots to goal ratio when played as a CF was poor. He wears his heart on his sleeve and i admire him for that, but ultimately he's a failed striker who wasn't shipped out.

I know some people get wound-up by people putting formations and line-ups on here, but it's important to get the right team on the pitch, so, each to their own, and here's my opinion:

I would like to see both Cole and Gerrard making progressive moves from midfield, need to keep posession in the middle of the park better and create more from the middle, and I'd have Torres playing up-top alone. Also give Babel a run over kuyt as he is faster and more direct. (Made the assumption we've bought Konchesky too)

here's my line-up:

_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Reina_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

Johnson_ _ Skyrtl_ _ _ Agger_ _ _ Konchesky

_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Poulsen_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

_ _ _ _ _Gerrard_ _ _ _ _ _Cole_ _ _ _ _ _

Babel_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _Jovanovich

_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _Torres_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

flexible to change from 4-1-2-2-1 to a 4-3-3 to a 4-5-1 if needed. Yes I dropped Carra, love him to bits, but his defending has looked panicky for the last seaon and a bit and he punts too much long from defence. Bring on the abuse.

P.S., our squad looks very weakened for the Europa league clash in Turkey. Need some big performances from fringe players to get thru the tie.

Cheers. Kez

25 Aug 2010 11:38:32

With both Kuyt and Mascherano looking to leave LFC then we need to get to get some reinforcements in fast and assuming the funds goto Roy we should have £25-30mill to spend (Masch 18/ Kuyt 10mill). So how about some sensible suggestions. Possibly SWP, Mario Gomez on loan from Munich and Ben Arfa which should given our midfield some much needed imagination and a big striker to work with/ backup torres. I personally don think we'll miss either Dirk or Javier as they work hard but don't really provide a good constant goal threat.

25 Aug 2010 11:14:59

Hodgson to sign konchesky and Carlton cole with mascherano money. Disgusting signings if Roy thinks this is how to move lfc forward then he needs to go now

Really? Let's be honest about this. None of us are happy with getting players like these two in but what else is RH meant to do? He's got little cash to spend. It's all well and good talking about Aguero etc but we're not there anymore and until investment comes in this is the level we're shopping at. You know who to blame for all of this mess and it's not RH

25 Aug 2010 11:12:47
Will so called "fans" stop having a go. . a lot of "armchair" supporters on here by the look of it. Roy has been in charge for two minutes and already peolple saying he should go ! Get a grip. . things WILL come good. Support the Team and stop with the negative crap please.

As for signings. . we will not be signing any expensive players until at least next summer so get used to it.

PS i will not be making any more predictions on the outcome of matches after Monday night ! !

Mild Mannered YNWA

25 Aug 2010 11:12:11
There's a few too many people coming on here and questioning why we got RH as manager, simply because we have been beaten once. I always thought as Liverpool fans we were always those who gave our managers time to prove themselves, and don't forget he's still doing this with Benitez's team plus Cole and less Mascherano.

We all knew this season was gonna be tough but at least try and get behind the manager.

On another note, Kuyt's agent has been quoted as saying,

"The two clubs continue to talk, but things are moving slowly, " agent Rob Jansen said.

"The difference between demand and offer is important. My client told Liverpool he no longer wants to be involved as this is something that regards his career and life.

"It doesn't mean he wants to leave at all costs, but when a club like Inter comes along it's normal to look into the situation further."

If we can get £15M for him I'd snap their arm off. He was meant to be bought as a striker and scored 1 in every 4, and even though he played probably half those games as a RM, he's not quick enough or got a good enough cross to value him at anymore than £8-9M.

Many are the times I've read in here and many other forums about how some fans are "totally against" the idea of an owner who splashes money like crazy (à la Sheikh Mansour). These fans refer to the fact that LFC is a clube with soul, values, integrity and so on and so forth (which is very much TRUE), and that with an owner like Mansour, the Reds would buy their way to success ("it is not the right way, they argue).

My question is:between being in this current mire and not being certain of our future, and having an owner who can buy us, say, Aguero, Lahm, Young, Podolski all in one go, what would you choose?
Would you prefer to have things the present way, waiting for an owner who'll do things the "Liverpool, proper way" (which could take. .no one knows how long), or happily accept a Mansour, and in so doing drop the "we don't want to do it the Chavs and Citeh way", "we don't want to buy success" mantra?

Please answer, as honestly as you can(you too, Ed).

Gracias-

{Editor's note - I would prefer the Liverpool way with youth being brought through and every now and again a top class player brought in}

Why all this guessing on this new owner and that new owner.

Guessing on this new player and that new player.

Let's get real !

The most important thing is the takeover and to get rid of the thieving cowboys.

We all saw on Monday that we need about 4/ 5 QUALITY signings !
Not crap, not on loans that can't even get in their own teams !

Thousands and millions each day/ week in interest. .

Where has all the transfer money gone ?
Where has all the sponsership money gone ?
Where is the money from the transfer kitty ?

Where ? ?

Fellow reds get your heads from in the clouds look at the facts, look at the team, the suad and the stadium.

We should of already gone out and signed the players we need, not weeks into the season. .

What are Purslow, Broughton and the rest of the clowns upto ? ? ?
It should of been well sorted by now! ! !

We need players such as
Suarez
Aguero
Turan
Cahill
Martinez
Young
To name a few. .

Let's get real and wake up ! ! !

Big Roge

No Press Conference on Friday. The new ownership will only be announced to the media when it is completed, then a press conference will follow soon after. Don't expect to hear anything until the day the deal is done.
The takeover will happen after the transfer window has closed & could be as late as October.

If the new buyer is waiting for the banks to take control of the club and secure a reduced purchase price, at what cost do the banks take control?
Do they have the legal right to seize the club without taking it into administration, if that happens will the league not penalise us as they have done with every other club and the new owners be left with a middle table team (after points deduction) at best, disgruntled fans, and a team of players disillusioned by false promises.
This will lead to the departure of Torres, guaranteed, and hamper any chances of attracting the current and future stars of this great game to the historical walls of this once great club. Is it just me or is anyone else wondering why we took Roy over MON? Ok so Roy had a good run in europe with fulham but didn't do much in the league finishing 12th If we want to get back into the champions league we are going the wrong way about it. Now for Singings to replace masch i would like to see scott parker come in and for a striker i think crouch coming back would be a good move for the right price.

Because he's a "yes" man. rafa was got rid because he would of let the fans knew what was going really going on at the club. Mon like any other manager wouldn't touch it with fergusons. . over the next 2 years high priced players will be replaced with cheaper player for profit. Masch-Poulson(no choice on this one though) , Aqua man-J Cole(free and his plus poulsons wages are same as aqua and masch) , Insua-some s* t left back (you all slag him but at his age he is very highly rated and will get fetch a good fee) , next year will be torres and maybe glen johnson after will have an even worse season. there will be marketing making the fans blame johnson saying his s* t etc etc. yet some how for a s* t player will still fetch over 20mil. and torres will of ben accepted due to people thinking he'd leave the season before. . This is called assett stripping. . the banks in control already. and all this hype of sugar daddys haung bid etcd is just marketing to get people buying season tickets and shirts. . we're in far bigger trouble than any of you reaslise. . . . .

Liverpool Rumours
News leaked thru frm another source. Billionare Mukesh Ambani could takeover Liverpool by next week and there is press confrence coming friday regarding this"

Harris said his client/ s were "none of the groups mentioned in the press" and Ambani has been linked numerous times from just about every news outlet. The buyer will likely be someone no-one has ever linked to Liverpool and the vast majority of us have never heard of.

Not sure what peoples problem is with konchesky, he is a solid defender, gets forward well, he's English and cheap this allows us to shoehorn another player into the squad that doesn't qualify as home grown.
I think until the takeover is complete and who knows when that will be we have to be realistic with who we can buy and give Roy a chance to develop the squad as he has taken over a weak squad.
Also if buying players that are 29, 30 plus is good enough for Mourinho, look what he did at Inter, then let's see how Roy gets on. Managers need to have the style of players they like for instance hard working players which then allows such players as Gerrard, Cole and Torres to concentrate on creating and scoring goals.

Just looking through the rumours, boy are all us LFC supporters down in the dumps with the exception of a few hopeful takeover posts!
I'd just like to make a few points to help us find some middle ground.
We knew Masc would be going, this is happening & its parts of moving on as a club.
The ownership will happen, but we have been told by Purslow it will be to the right buyer, weather its within the transfer window is a minor detail in the grand scheme of things.
Roy Hodgson has brought a calmness to our club, he has had no money to spend & has so far used the small amount of money that has been recouped wisely.
We were unlucky not to win against Arsenal. At Citeh we had an off day with no luck & the Masc fiasco to boot.
We have kept Gerrard & Torres, plus signed Joe Cole.
We have been told by Broughton that there are offers on the table & they are working through them.
We know the Yanks will one day be going.
We know we are the most successful club in England.
We are a sleeping giant ready to be woken.
We are Liverpool F.C

In Roy we trust YNWA! !

25 Aug 2010 10:16:37
Roy is shopping in the transfer market like he's still at Fulham! Mighty Reds deserve better players than we're being linked with.

Keith Harris is fronting a takeover bid from none other than Steve 'Apple' Jobs. The multi-billionaire is a life-long LFC supporter and has noticed the interest by other globally wealthy individuals and wants to usurp Microsoft by getting his company's logo exposed to the world on shirts and at the new iStadium 0.6 soon to be built.
You heard it here first

I think Keith Harris should have retired along time ago, along with Orville. (plus did anyone see his lips move)

IS HODGSON OK?
THIS IS LIVERPOOL THAT HAVE HAD DALGHLISH, RUSH, BARNES, GERRARD MURPHY TORRES ETC. AND HE WANTS TO FOLLOW THIS WITH KONCHESKY AND COLE.
ONE LEFT BACK THAT CAN CROSS AND THATS IS AND A STRIKER WHO WILL JUST ABOUT GET YOU 5 GOALS A SEASON. IF YOUR LUCKY! !

HE NEEDS TO LOOK AT PLAYERS THAT WILL ACTUALLY MAKE A DIFFERENCE TO THIS LIVERPOOL SIDE. MAINLY SPEED! !

25 Aug 2010 09:45:12
Now gerrard and torres not goin to trabzon, dodgy back and match fitness are the excuses, sounds ominous for us, more like rats and sinking ship comes to mind, they can stay at melwood with masch and discuss there next moves. ynwa magsman. .

25 Aug 2010 09:34:29
Hi all.im disgraced by the way you are all having a go at roy hodgsons possible signings.firstly we have not got charlton cole or konchesky yet and if we were to get them we just need to give them a chance.roy is trying to but players on a shoestring sized bugget so all you saying we should sign young and aguero etc etc we just don't have a ny money.we had to pay of benitez and fulham etc etc.and although we may sell macha who is to say the yanks will give us allthat money back to buty more players.hey will want to keep most of it.we need new owners but them weshouldnt 'buy the title'because that's what you do on fantasy football.yes we started badly agaisnt citeh but lets not turn on roy.let himshow uswat he can do.it not him out on the pitch defending.

Rumours : Interesting to see what happens if Barca don't up their offer. I think it will go through , as Roy needs some cash( will only be something around their current offer).
The dirty game i referred to before by Barca is , if the deal is not struck , masch might be loaned out since he does not fancy playing in england anymore. That will be a big waste for liverpool.

An english player has been bid for, i hear. Don't know which one and don't know if it has been accepted.

Like i said before , the PSV pair is doubtful. Salcido aint interested in england and toivonen wil go for lot more in a few years and that aqua won't come back.

My View : Spurs , city have better squads than last year and we still have the same. Interesting to see IF Roy can finish higher than where rafa did with this squad.

Liverpool rumour

With the recent development of a mystery bidder, the ownership saga seems as though it could be coming to an end over the next few months.

Whenever situations in football are concluded, whether its a transfer or a takeover, it's always easy to look back and see what & where the genuine events were.

I just want to highlight what I consider a genuine event. This mystery bidder has been spoken of before but it was purly speculation. But when you look back at when the bidder from Syria, Yahya Kirdi, announced he was on the verge of purchasing the club, you can certainly see that maybe the American owners close ties to this bid were a bit too convenient. The owners must have known of this mystery bid, but they had no idea who it was, so they wanted/ needed to flush out this mystery bidder and the easiest way to do this would be to have a rival bid say they are on the verge of buying the club.

Regardless of how advanced the mystery bidders takeover was, it might just have caused them to get a little twitchy and this is why we saw Keith Harris announce what he did about 2-3 weeks ago.

This is just an observation, but thought it worthy enough to get posted.

I'm sick of seeing all this about the new owner being so wealthy IT'S FANTASY so get over it and lets just not say it's BILL GATES there you go everyones dream then.

The club isn't going to be sold untill the default on the loan in Oct had been sorted out as all the buyers know that RBS will take over and then re sell the club at the value of there debt outting the Twits sorry americans. So hold on till then then watch LFC go up the league title 2011-2012

Players coming in Paul Konchesky and a striker Santa Cruz for a cut price he won't want to train for 3/ 4 months will want to play Masch is gone the question is how much for

Up the mighty REDS

YEAH mate and were sick of people like you too, how do you know it won't be sold before october the same as i don't know it won't nobody knows, on the santa cruz transfer he won't be coming to liverpool end off.

There is a press conference set for friday at anfield (my source is a former liverpool player) with a major annoucement expected.

25 Aug 2010 08:31:45
After coming on this website for the past three weeks, and getting excited by all of these rumours about potential investors, new big name signings from people 'In the know' and their 'facts' I can honestly say that only a handful of these rumours have ever been any where near the reality.
I wish people would stop making up stories, posting things they hope will happen, stop living in the fantasy world and also posting their preferred starting 11's. Come on, we're all Liverpool fans lets stop with all the bulls****p.

Ed how true to u think this is? ?

Pssst. Want to know what's really happening at anfield? Well here we go. . There are no bids for Liverpool simply because the yanks want between 700-800 million plus future revenue from the new stadium. The cost of building a new stadium is approx 500 million and then there's al least another 200 million to rebuild the squad. There is interest but only if the club goes into administration which may or may not happen because as a last resort the yanks will try to refinance rather than lose their investment. I can also reveal that Torres will be sold to Chelsea on transfer deadline day for 50 million in a one off payment curtesy of mr broughton and mascherano will go to barca for an undisclosed sum, again a one off payment. In return we will buy any striker that we can get on either installments or free. Thank you David moores.

KOP TARGET NEW MASCH

Latest in Liverpool transfer and The Takeover

LIVERPOOL will move for French ace Hatem Ben Arfa if Barcelona stump up £20m for Javier Mascherano.
Roy Hodgson would want to replace the Argentine before the transfer window closes and Marseille's £7m-rated midfielder Ben Arfa is his top target. The new Anfi eld boss and his backroom staff are seething with Mascherano over his behaviour.
And they are prepared to tough it out if the Spanish champs do not meet their valuation. But Mascherano is believed to have already agreed a £5m-a-year wages deal with Barcelona president Sandro Rossell, who, according to reports, has spoken directly to the midfi elder.
Werder Bremen have already made an offer for Ben Arfa, who Newcastle tried to nab on loaearlier this summer. And the midfielder said last night: "I want to play in the Premier League because my time in the French Ligue has passed."
If Liverpool can get Barca to up their bid for ¬Mascherano from £16m to £20m, then they could move swiftly for the 23-year-old Marseille star.
However, Hodgson would ¬prefer to keep hold of Mascherano (right), despite the ¬Argentine ace refusing to play in the 3-0 defeat at ¬Manchester City on ¬Monday.
An Anfield insider said: "He is clearly determined to join Barca, but Liverpool do not want to let him go on the cheap as the ¬Spanish side want."
Hodgson is ¬certainly in no mood to be forced into selling, saying: "The fee we are being ¬offered and the fee we think is the correct fee are very, very far apart." Football's top wheeler¬-dealer Keith Harris last night said an overseas buyer is considering ¬making an offer of between £400m-£500m for Liverpool.
The former Football League chairman said: "The overseas buyer we represent has completed due diligence. It is none of the groups mentioned in the press. The ball is now in our client's court."

First of all . mascherano saga , i think he's the best defencive midfielder in the world BUT he isn't loyal to us so i think we can sell him and get hleb and martin caceras and consider buying Ever Banega ( amazing prospect ) or even Marek Hamsik and about lucas we should get rid of this rubbish right now he's the worst brazilian player i've ever seen . I think he's a fake brazilian ! I hope we consider these signings :
Ins : Aislan ( free )
Hleb p/ x
Caceras p/ x
Ever Banega
bryan ruiz or ola taivonen
Outs : LUCAS
Mascherano p/ x + 5m
kyrgiakos 2m

Just a question. is it true that ronaldinho is coming to liverpool because i heard he is and 3 different prices ( 5 M 7.5 M 10M )

{Editor's Note: I would think no chance.}

ED what do you think about carlton cole?and is any news on salcido and other players?
{Editor's note - I do not rate C. Cole at all, he does not score enough, he is just a big player and he uses his strength well}

25 Aug 2010 00:06:36
Is it true?
Liverpool getting Banega?
Would be a great signing to control the midfield.

If we got Banega and Ruiz and another striker, I think we'll be set playing with Cole and Gerrard and Torres and possibly a great striker. Its a realistic deal and could easily happen, Banega and Ruiz have been heavily linked and so have many strikers. Just need to get them ASAP. 1 Week left. After city's game, I was dissapointed with Ngog and Lucas, personally I don't think they're fit for Liverpool, I mean yeah, Ngog gets into get posistions but everytime he gets the ball, he tends to loose it.
Ruiz is a very skilful and fast player and a player Liverpool lacks. Banega is strong in defense and is like Alonso, he can produce great balls and good quality play. Roy is offering Mascherano and 10m for the lad. And Ruiz is around 14m?

Get these three transfers and I'll be very happy, they're realistic signing and just need to happen.
Ed - Reckon there's much chance of them signing?
{Editor's note - I doubt the money is there}

25 Aug 2010 00:04:55
So Barca want to offer us another outcast to go with Hleb. Martin Carceras? ? anyone remeber Antonio Nunez who arrived as part of the Michael Owen deal? hardly set the world alight. What worries me is that if these players who are still under contract are being offered to us as part of a makeweight in any deal how much would they cost on the market? . All Barca are trying to do is offload 2 players from their pay who can't get a game and they know they would struggle to sell, therefore reducing the money they have to cough up for one of our star players.! We should hold out for the price and the deal that we want and not just take 2 bargain basement players and half the cash we would normally get.! We are Liverpool and unfortunately its only our recent past dealings that lead other clubs to believe we are a soft touch and can be mugged off cos they think we are desparate! ! ! !

Ok can every1 stop saying were going to sign any manchester city players. . not going to happen

can everyone stop saying that liverpool have really good youth that need to be given a chance (if they would have played last night against city it would have bin 4-5 nil and that's being kind) the only thing i would have done is maybe try playin pacheco behind torres in the joe cole slot instead of ngog as a striker! sounds like common sense to me especially away from home against a very strong team.

Lucas has had enough chances. . . he is pure gash! ! cannot i repeat cannot pass the ball forward, how hard can it be being a defensive deep lying midfielder that hardly dribbles or attack to pass FORWARD

Ngog has the talent . . but not right now. . . he is far too inconsistent. . . but should b kept as a squad player.

Mascherano . . . who we missed dearly against man city is going but for how much it is not known. . . i will tell u this he is irreplacable! ! not for his creativity obviously. hes the argentina captain . and had nearly 40% more tackles than ANY1 else in the premier league last season! ! that is not a joke (cant actually remember the stats)

We could sell kuyt for a good price 13m+ aslong as there is an immediate replacement

The rumours were that woy did not rate aquilani which he spent a lot of time with in pre season that's why he was off. . . we need some sort of replacement at least dm or m

hope the trezeguet rumours are true. . . i think this will lift the burden off torres for the moment at least. which can only b a good thing

there will be some more aquisitions to the squad. . just wait and see. . we will battle for 4 5 6 respectively this season before the title assault next time. . . and if we don't get champions league u know wot im going to say. . . bye bye torres

All this takeover talk is driving me mad, why can't someone from the LFC board just reassure the fans that something is happening, it is seriously driving me crazy. anyone agree?

I agree but do what i've done and prepared for the worse. There's been to much false dawns about the takeover/ no takeover and the Media havn't helped in any way as we knew they wouldn't. We all know how much they all love seeing are Great club in turmoil but no matter what H&G will be gone by the end of this sale process which is what we all want and ask for in the end and a good custodian of course.

Even Keith Harris said "IF his client make's a bid and IF succesful then the process will still probably not be concluded untill October when the banks call in their loans". So sleep easy untill October because no matter what somthing will happen on Otober 6th but hopefully before.

We've waited 3 years to get rid of these Yank Scumbags (I hope they die a slow and painful death) we can surely wait another 2-3 months.

To ED i know you posted the post from last night on the site mate i was as asking did you post it yourself?
