Arsenal fan in peace. Just wanted to say I loved Steve G. Loved watching him play and probably my favorite PL player (outside of Bergkamp, Henry, etc., of course :) )

Was a fantastic player for your club (and for England) and can't think of any/ many (? ) midfielders like him playing the game today.

Wish him all the best for the future.

There were 2 years when we had Gerrard and Torres together in their prime and that for me was the best attacking duo I have seen.

I only wish they had managed to sustain it for longer than that. We'd probably have a few league titles! Sadly, injuries ruined both players before they even hit 30.

Hopefully Gerrard does the sensible thing now and starts his coaching for an academy or as a backroom coaching staff. Cut his teeth. It's hard to imagine him not being an inspirational man manager. And he won't suffer fools or disrespect. I am quietly optimistic about him as a manager actually. I think it might suit his personality. He always wanted to be the boss, and as manager he can be.

{Ed007's Note - Do you not think this is all just romantic nonsense? If anything Gerrard will become the next Allardyce or 'Arry Redknapper, the day of chest thumping managers without any tactical nuance are long gone. The only plus point for Gerrard ever getting near the Liverpool job is because he was such a great servant to the club,.

'It's hard to imagine him not being an inspirational man manager. And he won't suffer fools or disrespect.'

Roy Keane, Stuart Pearce, Di Canio..... Arsenal fans used to say the same about Tony Adams!}

25 Nov 2016 01:47:46
MK, Ed is right. If his conduct off the pitch towards the end of his LFC career is anything to go by then Yes, it is hard to imagine him being an inspirational man manager. I don't live in the emotional. I live in reality and NOTHING suggests that he will be a good manager just because he had a great career here. That's how a poor, incompetent Alan Pardew (whose career is nowhere as great as SG's) got the Palace job and had he not been English, he would have been shown the door during last season. As Ed said, managers like Pardew are being shown up to be yesterday 's news and coaches like Edie Howe are the new breed. All in all, SG should be a youth coach at the club as he will be a role model and inspiration to the kids who grew up watching him and if he wants to be LFC manager in the future, he should go cut his teeth elsewhere, not here as is passion for the club will cloud his coaching judgment calls.

25 Nov 2016 02:14:16
John Barnes.

25 Nov 2016 03:19:08
Gerrard inspired by example on the pitch. That doesn't necessarily translate when he needs to motivate a team verbally or choose tactics. Time will tell whether he has the intelligence and acumen to be a manager but he's going to need a different skill set than those he used on the pitch.

25 Nov 2016 06:41:28
People keep on saying there's nothing to indicate Gerrard will be a good coach but is there anything to indicate he would be a bad one? I know if I was a youngster coming through i would play out of my skin every game for him. Give the guy a chance if that's what he wants to do, he is a legend.

{Ed001's Note - exactly what most people are saying, get him in with the kids where he will, at the very least, inspire them. Then we can find out how good, bad or indifferent he is as a coach.}

25 Nov 2016 06:56:41
Gerrard and Henry are two of the most stand out players on a football pitch I've seen live. Gerrard was such a massive influence when he was on the ball driving forward and watching Henry was like watching a race horse in action. Great memories watching games they played in ( seeing them on tv never did them justice)

25 Nov 2016 08:04:48
Hi Hamilton do you ever not agree with the Eds?

25 Nov 2016 10:38:18
Personally I think he could well turn out to be a very good man manager, he'll have no problems motivationg players and he will command respect, but I do think he'll need a good tactically minded assistant to help him, a bit like Klopp and Buvac. I also think he could be a good no2 to Southgate for England.
I think he'll get a coaching role with our youths and will be guided and tutored by Klopp and the coaching staff, which is exactly what he needs. What Klopp said yesterday made me think that there's an offer on the table.

25 Nov 2016 11:57:03
This thread is an example why Stevie G should not be anywhere near the club at present, he will bring too much of a circus with him and the media will always be waiting for him to slipup. (no pun intended)

25 Nov 2016 12:09:28
i remember when koeman was manager of benfica and flopped so I thought he was a rubbish coach even though he was a world class player. but shows that even if gerrard isn't a great coach at first if he is given time and works hard that he could improve a lot. just don't get why everyone is getting on his back before he's even started.

25 Nov 2016 15:35:42
Walkon, you can ask the Ed`s how much battle we`ve gone to on issues over the years and they themselves will tell you. I agree with them mostly because they show me insight into the game and the club that you can`t see on TV or in the newspaper articles. I live in the States hence, they give us feedback on what`s happening in the background which helps to form better opinons on issues. I agree that I`m not a know it all and I`m willing to learn. You?

25 Nov 2016 17:27:05
You cannot put Psyco Pearl in that bracket. Any manager who plays David James upfront is clearly inspired and way ahead of all other managers.

24 Nov 2016 20:39:26
Best of luck to Steven Gerrard in whichever carrer path he chooses. Done some magical things on the pitch for us and gave his all week in week out. If he's half as good a coach as he was a player I hope we have a long future together.

I'd like to see everyone's comment before the eds comment, this is just silly what if. Top four is Liverpool Chelsea Arsenal city. Leicester win the CL. United win Europa. Everton come fifth, Southampton sixth and Stoke seventh. West Ham win the FA cup and west brom the league cup. How many teams go CL and how many in Europa?

Could add Swansea have the best disciplinary record in Europe but I won't.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

24 Nov 2016 21:43:38
The same amount of teams that there would be if none of this happened.

24 Nov 2016 21:54:58
I believe that Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Leicester and Man Utd would be in the Champions League. Fourth place Man City would drop to the Europa as the cup winners take priority. West Ham would join them and West Brom would go into the Europa League qualifying stages. Poor Everton, Saints and Stoke would miss out despite strong league positions!

I think haha! Correct me if I'm wrong!

24 Nov 2016 22:07:15
From my understanding of the rules:

In the exact scenario you explained, Liverpool Chelsea Leicester and Man U go into Champions league, Arsenal West Brom and West Ham go into the Europa.

As a side note, If Swansea qualified as the best disciplined team, then they would go into the Europa league, but not at anyone else's expense. It is considered an additional position I think.

Well, I gave it a go haha!

24 Nov 2016 22:37:54
Mr. C and Reid the Red have it right.

24 Nov 2016 19:46:42
Once again, a pretty small thing that Klopp did, that looks mighty on hindsight.
Brilliant handling of the Gerrard situation. He literally shut doors for any sort of concentration lapse this could cause. Did exactly what was required.

Eds, what do the press and media make of him in general, is it love or.

Believable2 Unbelievable3

{Ed001's Note - who?}

25 Nov 2016 07:02:42
Sorry, looks like I posted incomplete. The press generally starts a war with those who do not play by their rules. And we all know Klopp does things his way. So my question was, are the press loving him still or are they frustrated that he's not giving in to their gossip games.

{Ed001's Note - depends on which press you mean. Some love him, some hate him, some like him.}

24 Nov 2016 13:15:10
Ed002. FIFA let's Israel play in European competitions. THAT's political.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - It is nothing to do with FIFA and it is nothing to do with politics. Israel is a member of UEFA and therefore allowed to play in European competition. UEFA has plenty of transcontinental states (Azerbaijan, Russia, Turkey, Kazakhstan etc.).

24 Nov 2016 13:33:15
Except Israel is not even transcontinental. Not even close.

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware anyone is suggesting it is.}

24 Nov 2016 13:37:03
I was just saying that in reference to you saying UEFA allow many transcontinental nations.

{Ed002's Note - They do, there are exceptions all over the world - three South American countries are in CONCACAF, Australia is in the Asian confederation etc..}

24 Nov 2016 14:01:25
ed I was just wondering how appeal will work because aren't English, Scottish, welsh boards part of institution that make and govern the rules? surely they will just vote to not punish themselves.

{Ed002's Note - No, that is not how FIFA is structured. The individual FAs are members of UEFA and the only British representative, as far as I recall, on the FIFA Executive Committee is David Gill. If it goes that far, and I very much doubt it will, the Disciplinary Committee will hear the case and hand out any sanctions it deems approriate.}

24 Nov 2016 23:40:55
thanks ed out of the transcontinental nations you mentioned Kazakhstan has always confused me the most it has a massive border with china haha.

{Ed002's Note - Try not to get confused over such matters.}

24 Nov 2016 13:01:25
Hey guys,

Sorry this isn't specifically about Liverpool. What is the move called in football when you're dribbling towards an opponent, you kick the ball past then on one side (say the right) and you run past them on the opposite side, then you collect the ball again.

Pele scored a great goal by doing that to the keeper.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

24 Nov 2016 13:36:54
I thought he missed that one.

24 Nov 2016 13:48:49
Pele didn't kick the ball past the keeper, he let it run. Peles footballing brain worked faster than mere mortals.

24 Nov 2016 13:55:41
Yeah I just watched the video again and he did as you said there, he just let it run.

Ibrahimovic however did do this move, against Saint Etienne. Anyone know the name? It's giving me a headache.

24 Nov 2016 14:00:41
At here's a reason he was dubbe the King of Football. He was light years ahead of his time.

24 Nov 2016 14:32:42
I'd just call it good bloody skill.

24 Nov 2016 14:03:00
remember this goal by Fernando when he let it run v Newcastle?

24 Nov 2016 17:51:38
Great goal that!

It's called a run around and also a belt, if anyone cares.

24 Nov 2016 18:35:58
The Pele move is simply called the "Pele runaround". In the English game, I'm told it's called "selling the dummy" where you let the ball go to one side of the opposing player, run around the player on the other side, and then collect the ball again once the player has been passed. The Brazilians call it "drible de vaca" or cow's dribble or half moon.

24 Nov 2016 18:42:32
In indoor when someone plays 1-2 with the wall it's being a little b*itch.

25 Nov 2016 11:22:04
OK, when and how are we allowed to insert clips? Is this new?

{Ed033's Note - No, this is not new, have you just 'woke up'? Just place the youtube page url i.e. www.youtube.com/ watch?v=[id] in with the post.

24 Nov 2016 09:38:22
Ed why is fifa Banning both players and fans from wearing poppies? Seems absurd.

Believable9 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Because they are classing the symbol as "political" - I agree it is nonsense.}

24 Nov 2016 10:47:09
It's pure disrespect. I find it disgusting they can get away with it. Politics don't come into it so dunno what they're giving it. Its a sign of appreciation, respect and what not. To ban it is complete and utter ridiculous. We can't hang our flags out during the world cup, they ban poppies. What next.

24 Nov 2016 11:52:06
For FIFA to lecture anyone is laughable. An organisation that had been shown to be corrupt from the top downwards It's a joke.

24 Nov 2016 13:43:01
FIFA should look at they own people first . If it was not they people going to war we would not be he or have a FIFA .

24 Nov 2016 14:32:06
FA should disregard this ruling and encourage Poppy wearing for Rememberance purposes.

Fine the team, dock points, do your worst FIFA. You're the most corrupt organisation in sport and have no integrity.
Let FIFA ban the home nations, form a break away organisation and we'll see who comes out smelling of roses (or should that be poppies) 😎.

24 Nov 2016 12:13:05
Whilst I think they are wrong in this instance I do respect their stance on keeping politics out of football.

24 Nov 2016 15:45:55
As do I muscatred but this has bugger all to do with politics. As always, spot on Ron.

24 Nov 2016 17:02:06
I'd prefer FIFA to focus on keeping corruption, racism, hooliganism and homophobia out of football.

24 Nov 2016 18:04:49
Easy argument is to claim that it's the symbol of the Royal British Legion Charity (which is entirely truthful - the buying and wearing of poppies is a fundraising activity for a single charity) . On that basis the wearing of poppies is not appreciably different to Barcelona wearing shirts with UNICEF on then (which incidentally, as a UN charity, has far more political links), or fans wearing the prostate cancer 'man' badge who are official partners of the FA. To face charges on such a thing is ridiculous and it's fairly shocking that in the face of all the corruption in FIFA, this is what they focus on.

24 Nov 2016 20:27:19
I agree that wearing of poppies should be allowed and cannot see the sense in banning but in war there is always winners and loses so fifa could argue that there is a political edge. If the Nazi's won WW1 or WW2 would we feel the same? Besides we're remembering the fallen of all of our countrymen, we have battled Al quida (spelling) and fifa may be worried about repercussions. I'm a big poppy wearer and attend every remembrance day parade, my girls March with the girls brigade just trying to show the possible other side, not much of one I agree.

24 Nov 2016 20:42:10
There is no other side IMO. We're talking about people who gave up their lives in all wars.

Why are FIFA getting involved? Why aren't FIFA tackling hooliganism, racism, corruption, homophobia, child sex abuse?
Instead they want to impose their ridiculous views on a nation who wants to commemorate it's fallen heroes.
Tells you all you need to know about FIFA. About as evil and corrupt bunch of self-serving leeches you could ever come across.
I just hope their are some sponsors of FIFA who have a conscience and pull their money out of their grubby hands.

24 Nov 2016 08:45:15
Some alarmingly naive and cocky views further down the page reds.

I'm seeing too much talk of how our fans really fancy us for the title and why should we be concerned with Chelsea. When city had their dip, I saw people saying pep had been found out already.

I am loving our football and am shocked at how well we're doing so early on. But 12 games does not bring home a title and the last time I checked the top 5 were seperated by 4 points. It's on a knife edge at the moment and couple of poor results could make our position not look so great.

Ron - I'm not a doubter in the slightest, I'm going for cautious optimism!

I just think it's a bit rich that a forum full of fans spitting out dummies due to our "failure to address glaring weaknesses" in the summer are now so cock sure we're champions - I know not everyone but easily 80%.

Believable23 Unbelievable2

24 Nov 2016 10:01:20
Tried to express similar cautious optimism and was slagged for having little faith.

24 Nov 2016 10:51:47
I must admit I agree with your post mostly but I do like to think we'll win it as does everybody else. Reality is we just don't know how it'll pan out but going on the first 12 I think if we carry on the same throughout the season the title is ours. That's not been cocky though it's having an opinion, if we don't, we don't. I'd be happy with top 4. Things can change so quickly I know but i see mr jurgen and co lifting that trophy.

24 Nov 2016 11:29:10
The run of games until City are all winnable unless we don't find any more new excuses. By new year we would be sitting top of the tree by some margins.

24 Nov 2016 13:49:45
Every game is winnable. Everyone is in great spirits until the next loss or even a draw. Then the knives are sharpened and whoever makes a balls of things on the pitch gets it on here. Are all banter pages the same or as bad as here Ed? We are having a great season guys. Let's enjoy it. I'd have given anything for a top four finish at the start of the season. Anything else is a bonus.

{Ed002's Note - The banter pages vary - partly due to the fans of certain clubs not really getting the hang of it.}

24 Nov 2016 14:06:18
I looked at the man city page a while back and there didn't look like you had much footfall there ed. if you don't mind me asking which teams have the busiest pages?

{Ed002's Note - The Liverpool pages are the busiest.}

24 Nov 2016 14:40:57
I agree Harry but no game is easy, I do think we SHOULD win them games but we'll see, that'd be ideal but it's not always like that. If we do we're really going for it and I think we'll win all of them, point is in this leaguleague any team can upset, it happens we move on. I still believe we can do it though.

24 Nov 2016 12:19:14
If we keep playing like we are we're on for about 86 points, this may get us the title, it may not. In the last 10 seasons 6 times it wasn't enough, 2 it was and in 2 it would have come down to goal difference.

This is a great year to be a Liverpool fan but we're not favorites yet.

24 Nov 2016 16:45:38
Long way to go yet but I still have the same view I had when we started - decent chance for top 4 and an outside chance for the title. let's just take it game by game and enjoy it! I personally think Man U has real issues, Chelsea is looking solid, Man City and Arsenal good but certainly not infallible. Going to be tight.

24 Nov 2016 17:04:13
What's the point in being a fan if you're pessimistic about your team's chances?

Doubtless some Foxes were told they were "naive and cocky" last season.

24 Nov 2016 17:42:12
Ron,

I'm not being pessimistic in the slightest. I'm all for optimism and in fact these pages could do with a lot more of it when the chips are down.

There's also a huge difference between being optimistic of our chances vs thinking we've got the league sewn up and people stating Chelsea are nothing to worry about. I just don't think people should get too carried away yet.

24 Nov 2016 18:06:18
You don't consistently win if you don't expect to consistently win. Mindset is the first hurdle - if we create an atmosphere where it feels like we are waiting for dissapointment, it will come.

24 Nov 2016 18:50:40
Spot on hjikle.
Klopp wants us to believers not "cautiously optimistic".
I believe we're going to win it. If that comes across as arrogant and naive then I've spent most of my 'football life' celebrating titles with other arrogant naive fans.
Istanbul showed how the belief and mindset of the Reds who drowned out the Milan fans can affect performance and results.

24 Nov 2016 20:17:37
Yes we look at it with red tinted glasses of course we do but looking at the facts I really think we'll do it. We've had on paper, by far the most difficult start of any of the other top teams. We are playing the best football in the league and scoring bags of goals. Plus we have lots of options on the bench if some players lose form which I don't see with the others. We have all of the top teams to come to Anfield and is back us against anyone at home these days. I might be biased but looking at it why wouldn't we win the league?

24 Nov 2016 20:34:45
I'm trying not to be over optimistic or too negative. I'm going for the game by game approach Klopp favours. I've had many years of disappointment through optimism. Even my nerves and heart are healthier thanks to Klopp's approach. I am optimistic about our chances but keeping my feet firmly on the ground. Title would be great but top four would be fantastic to.

25 Nov 2016 01:54:04
Take it one game at a time and we'll see what happens. Even in 13/ 14, I didn't believe we're would win the league until we went into the last game of the season knowing that if we win, we are champions. Unfortunately, that did not happen hence, I wasn't too disappointed even tho, I really was because it still hurts. That is my standard for this season as well. However, CL football is the priority for now and that needs to be secured first before anything else. After that is done and there's a chance at their title then we go for it.

25 Nov 2016 02:12:32
I started believing before the chelsea disaster under rodgers after telling everyone to calm down before then and that went pear shaped. I would rather not be up there as title favs as i think liverpool have not handled that well in nearly 2 decades. Klopp was over a team of underdogs against bayern and motivation was easier but in england if you become fav for title you start believing hype and it affects teams. I take it every game. Sunderland next we gave away a two goal lead last time so i hope by 5 o clock sat ill be looking forward to my match replay this time. ynwa.

25 Nov 2016 15:37:34
Spot on, Mattsman.

25 Nov 2016 17:51:58
We will win it. It will be tight but we will win it. Win it we will. Come on you reds.
