Daniel Agger - definately to return to action before Christmas . Great news , we have missed his distribution from the back .

Don't get your hopes up 1977. Hodgson dosn't like the way Agger defends because he is a skillfull defender who likes to go forward evey now and again.

Hodgson dosn't even like Torres or Gerrard going forward never mind Agger.

Blair Mayne YNWA

PS. Agger might be gone come January?

Niko kranjcar would not benefit us in any way now that roy has started usig 442. kranjcar's best position is in the middle behind the striker(s) so would be ineffective out of position. carlton cole could be a great signing. he has realised he may only have 1 more big move at 27 so he may work his rocks off and start producing, not wanting to waste the opportunity of playing for the mighty reds. hes english, he knows exactly what it means to the club and its fans, something overseas players don't seem to get. he also has all the physical attributes required for a striker. hes playing for a poor west ham team atm, playing with better players week in week out might bring out the best in him. having said that, i would still prefer babel was partnering torres up front. give babel a chance in a 442 and he will surprise a lot of people

English Premier League giants Liverpool FC are set to approach Russian club CSKA Moscow with a bid for Asian hotshot Keisuke Honda. Many reports across Europe suggest that the 10 time Russian Champions would allow the 24-year old Japan International player to leave for around €13 million.

It is believed that a number of teams across the European continent are on the tail of Honda, including Liverpool's fellow English team Arsenal FC, German team FC Bayern München, Italian team AC Milan and Spanish team Real Madrid.

The Japan International's agent has confirmed that the attacking midfielder may want a move away from Russia as early as the European Winter window, but refused to name the player's favoured destination.

It is now believed that Liverpool team manager Roy Hodgson will match the set-price for the player, in a bid to improve his roster.

Just been told Liverpool scouts are at the Werder Bremen-Tottenham game. Was told by a reporter for the Echo, not sure if it's true and have no idea why we'd be scouting the Spuds or a poor Bremen side.

Err, we are playing Tottenham on Sunday. It has been known for teams to scout their upcoming opposition from time to time. Camera's showed Hodgson is there.

And hopefully were looking at marko marin, he would be an awesome signing

If Roy signs Carlton Bloody Cole i for one will be extremely upset and will wish for him to pack his bags and bog off.
I have never seen cole have a good game, he for me is one of a few very fortunate football players who have been in the right place at the right time, i have played with better players than him who never made it.

Both Gerard Houllier and Rafa Benitez , early in their LFC careers , improved the teams performances , the further the team advanced into the season . I fully expect Roy Hodgson to improve the standard and strategy of the First Team in due course . Upon a strong willed , formidable structure , the teams play will be expressive in attack and results will become consistent with competition .

One thing for sure about the new Staff at Anfield , Roy Hodgson has implemented a sports science department of superb quality , a sports science department that is still establishing itself and a sports science department that will be worth its weight in gold .

Suddenly Liverpool Football Club has become an incredibly technical facility . The nature of the club has changed a little . The redeveloped training ground , the new training initiatives with a more scientific approach and the promise of the The Academy under Kenny Dalglish and Damien Comolli .

I think Roy Hodgson is quite prepared to delegate such responsibility to the appropiate personel , allowing him to concentrate on shaping a successful side . His experience might be vital in that respect .

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

I love level playing fields, I keep tripping up on those bumpy ones. Park fields are awful.
BIG' CLUB MANAGERS WITH LESS THAN 15 POINTS AFTER 8 GAMES:

1987-1988: Alex Ferguson (Man Utd) 13, George Graham (Arsenal) 14
1988-1989: Kenny Dalglish (Liverpool) 12; Alex Ferguson (Man Utd) 12; George Graham (Arsenal) 14
————————————————————————————-
1999-2000: Gerard Houllier (Liverpool) 12
2000-2001: Gerrard Houllier (Liverpool) 12
2001-2002: Claudio Ranieri (Chelsea) 14
2002-2003: Alex Ferguson (Man Utd) 14; Claudio Ranieri (Chelsea) 13
2003-2004: Gerard Houllier (Liverpool) 11
2004-2005: Rafa Benitez (Livepool) 13; Alex Ferguson (Man Utd) 13

The internet's ace, 2 minutes of digging for that. Seems we have a lot of bad starts. Please note the 2004-2005 season, the first season Benitez was in charge which is what I was comparing Roy's to. OK it's only after 8 games but my point was that there is not much difference and Benitez was not hated like Roy seems to be. I can not deny that this has been the worst start to a season for longer than I've been alive as you rightly point out.
I 've also noticed the 88-89 season both King Kenny and Graham had bad starts and they both finished 1 and 2 that season. Last minute goal as mentioned in one of my earlier posts.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Yep the internet is ace. in fact its wonderful, take your comprehensive list of managers bad starts for instance. but. and this i have to admit is the subjective part, we could dissect your list but it would just be boring. the subjective part is that all those managers you quote. they showed some promise, they tried for a win, they handled the media, they may not have won all their respective matches but THEY TRIED TO. and i am sorrry but that is the whole point.

I could much more accept losing a match if we tried to win the bloody thing in the first place, i completly accept your premise that a bad start doesn't always equate to a bad finish. but to look at, to judge a manager we have to look at more than just results, we should be taking everything into account. how he deals with the media for instance. .which one of the managers you quote was awful at media relations.

It isn't that roy is hated. i am sorry you are missing the point. its the style of football that is being hated and not the man. but he is paid the big money so the buck stops there. I fully accept that roy is here for the season, and that we should all get behind the team and the manager. .and i shall. but i certainly don't have to like it.

maybe we should play on park fields. you never know it might help

Hmmmmmm. . .I was just thinking about when John W.Henry talked about Liverpool's lack of depth. Maybe we'll see the club target one or two players in the near future who aren't maybe the standard that Liverpool fans expect and want at this moment in time, but we must remember that we are not only building our starting XI, but building our squad. If you want to win the Premiership, you need to a squad full of about 20 outfield players. We may have that, but when someone like Torres or Gerrard get injured, we don't have the best options coming in to replace them.

Obviously we can't a player of Gerrard's calibre on the bench playing back-up, same with Torres. But someone who can come into the team and do a good, effective job.

Hi Ed & fellow Reds,

Apart from rumours and wishlists of players that LFC need, there is another wish that I really feel that should be fulfill.It's the 12th man.It's been missing.The players need the same 12th man to keep them motivated.It doesn't matter if the team are losing or playing badly.We just have to bring the 12th man back.We have to.

Just looked on the NESN website (New England Sports Network) and they have a Liverpool FC news page. On there, 2 reports step out above the rest:
Report: Roy Hodgson Scouting Gervinho, Eden Hazard in France. It says that Hodgson was scouting Gervinho but said:
The manager told L'Equipe that Gervinho "was not the only good player on the field, " according to LFC TV.

The Other report:
Liverpool Should Consider a Move for Adam Johnson.

"It's still early but I would definitely consider it, " Johnson said of leaving Eastlands, according to the Telegraph.

Johnson also hinted that he may not be content with manager Roberto Mancini's negative strategies.

These 3 signings would be great. What do you think ed?

{Editor's Note: All NESN is doing is passing on rumours from other sources - don't expect anything show stopping to turn up. Gervinho is a fine player; I have doubts whether Hazard would want to move to Anfield - but it depends on the options available to him; Johnson would be a good buy if it were possible.}

Wish people would stop saying that players are out of our league in terms of transfer fees - we are one of the most profitable teams on the planet and with NESV in control i am in no doubt that if woy or comoli identify a player and he makes financial sense they will make an offer for that player ie if we want a 30m player they will pay it, the only thing that will go against us at the moment will be the fact that we and not playing champions league,

For the people saying we should get krankjar and shawcross - do you watch football? Really? Krankjar is a decent technical player but lacks pace - just like our existing wingers, and he's a proven flop at spurs so why would we need him when we lack pacey widemen? As for shawcross, he's young and may develop, but is he any better than skrtle? He will be overpriced as he's English and he does well for Stoke, but as a Stoke player if he gets mugged off by Drogba nobody points it out, as for Stoke, it's kind of expected. When Carra gets done by Drogba we are all gutted. .

Am also annoyed by the "sell Johnson" rumours. Technically very good and has pace, alright he's not Ashley cole, but is still above the level of any right back I remember at LFC. In two years he'll master then balance between staying back and covering his position and going forward.

The Reds didn't send scouts to the Lille-Monaco game to watch Gervinho. They sent the scout to see Park Chu–Young. This kid is awesome and if you watch his fellow country men play (Ji Sung Park ManU and Yong from Bolton), you'll know that a player of this quality would be a perfect player to come of the bench and even start a few games. I know we haven't replaced Alonso, but we also haven't replaced Yossi (Joe's not cutting it!).
Commoli has said that 1 World Class player is coming in. (No players from the prem, because selling a striker of a Pavluyechenko or Adebayor could potentially seal a CL spot for the Reds!). We should have brought in Raul or Kenwyne Jones when we could have. Don't look at Hazzard as he's explicitly said he wants to go to Arsenal and we also need a more experienced player in the mold of Van Der Vaart. Llorente too overpriced, Mata won't leave Spain unless he receives D.Silva type money, Hazzard has eyes elsewhere and Honda doesn't fit into Mourhino's plans.
We need to remove 4 players and bring in 6 (for depth)

Ins:
Bryan Ruiz 9m
Park Chu–Young 7m
Emiliano Insua (from Loan, but won't happen with Roy)
Charles N'Zogbia 9m
Keisuke Honda 12m
Adam Johnson 15-17m (I see that my wish list sparked something on the site. .lol)
* *PLAY PACHECO MORE! !* *

Outs:
Babel
Aquilani
Agger
Jovanovic
I wish Poulsen and Konchesky, but then we'd have to fire Roy first. .hmmmmmm :)

SIM the RED
(Hey Ed. .How do you rate Park Chu–Young and Bryan Ruiz? and I think they're good option players, do you?)

{Editor's Note: I would have Honda before either - but I agree that Park Chu–Young, who has interested a number of EPL clubs) is a decent player.}

Hi fellow reds, it is clear to all we need to improve our squad and there many names being thrown around, without doubt we need to be able to challenge the big clubs for the big signings but i hope the club have realised the need to improve our scouting network, it seems to happen all to often that we miss out on a quality player at a bargain price or a player with massive potential at a bargain price.

Perhaps the Man Ure posters won't like this but. . . . . .

Liverpool will not move forward until Roy Hodgson gets his P45.

He will always be the wrong man for the job.

He still thinks he is at Fulham looking for bargain basement players.

He doesn't think BIG but Small.

He should have never left Fulham.

He is out of his depth in the big league.

Please NESV get a grip and get someone who is a top manager.

Not a nice man, a yesterday man !

A lot of people are saying that January is not a good window to buy, to a large extent that's true. . .

But it is a fantastic time to buy young players (particularly U-19s) and also the Russian league players. . . Their season finishes in December therby enabling the Russian clubs to make their plans ahead for the season. . . .

Ideally we should not buy players which Roy wants, simply because he won't be there in the long term. . .I see him in the club (max) till the end of the season. . .

I have a strong suspicion that Roy will be there till the end of the season because Liverpool will go back to Didier Deschamps in the summer again. . . . .That is because he has been good where ever he has been. . . AS A PLAYER AND AS A MANAGER. . . . . .just have a look at some of hiscredentials below

1. Very good midfelder. . .played for Juventus and Chelsea
2. world Cup Winner, European Cup Winner, Champions League Winner
3. Coached Monaco to Uefa Champions League final
4. Coached Juventus to Serie B championship (though agree its a lesser feat)
5. Current coaching at Marseille. . .last season they won the championship (under him) after 22 years

So I think we are missing a very good candidate here because he is definitely not a favorite in this forum. . . . .

But personally I am more of a romantic, I would prefer someone like Marcelo Bielsa even though the likelyhood of that happening is next to very difficult. .

Interestingly , Ryan Babel has stated that his conditioning and confidence were comprimised by Rafa Benitez's training schedule .

Ryan Babel joined Liverpool Football Club , in the same summer that Paco Ayestaran left LFC due to a disagreement with Rafa Benitez . It makes one wonder wether training between 2007 and 2010 was inadequate .

I don't think Carlton Cole is that bad, I just don't think he is good enough for a side with our fans ambitions for the Club.I can see why Roy would want him, as his ambition is to avoid relegation and a good cup run.Well you would think that anyway the way he sets the team up.I can see it now barking at the midfield to stay in our half and shouting to Carra, "Hoof it to carlton. Carlton Cole has been a first team regular for Aston Villa and West Ham during 5 of the last 6 years , and he has managed only to score 30 Premier League goals , in that time , an average of 5 or 6 League goals a season .

His standards are awful , and at age 27 , there is really very little to say for him .

I honestly don't see what anyone could possibly see in Insua. His defending is utterly awful. His positioning was horrendus, and we often seen opposition wingers get in behind him. He was useless in the air. He cost us many goals last season.

And going forward, he offered very little also. About 1-2 out of 10 crosses were half-decent.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Remember that, but it was a very low number of assists though wasn't it?

Stats in general can be decieving anyway. Insua was awful all of last season and cost us many goals. I really hope he comes back and proves me he has the ability to make it at Liverpool, but until then, my opinion of him won't change unfortunatly. {ed's note - I don't disagree, but has Konchesky been any better? He has cost us a number of goals and provided nothing going forward, yet we paid millions and gave away 2 youngsters to get him. That is the problem, it was change for change's sake, change should be made to make things better.}

I agree with Chris 1, in regards to not liking the way our Manager likes to play the game. I am a season ticket holder and have also been to 4 away games. we lost 3 of the games and drew 1 Birmingham were we were lucky to get a point., we never deserved anything from the games I have witnessed on the road this season.Our manager set out the teams not to get beat.I have been to all home league games and the 4 away games, I don't Like the way the team is playing that is the managers fault.I am not going to anymore away games to watch Carra and the boys at the back play alehouse football.I will not go to another away game with RH in charge.I don't like watching my club trying to avoid getting beat.

{ed's note - I think the point is that Roy doesn't even try and win away games, that is the main problem, more so than his actual record. Add that to the fact that he is making himself as much of a laughing stock in his press conferences as Christian Gross did at Spurs and it is easy to understand why he is disliked. It is just like watching that Spurs era, led by a man who didn't understand what he was taking on and who couldn't get the fans onside because he just didn't understand them or their mentality. It seems to me that Roy is exactly the same, he just doesn't understand the job or the fans and that is his big failing.}

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Absolutely. He has an awful away record where ever he goes. And he should learn to keep his mouth closed at times. But he is the man we are with until he is replaced and all I was doing is showing that not all Liverpool managers have good starts to a season. We need to get behind the team not concentrate on a hate campaign against the manager. And I agree that we should go for the win, who was it that said "The best form of defence is attack" Answers on a postcard please.

Liverpool HAVE to get suarez. 49 goals in 48 games is too good to dismiss

This guy is facing a 7 match ban for biting an opponent, to add to the deliberate hand ball in the world cup and then celebrating gyan missing the subsequent penalty i would rather eat ground glass than see Luis "no morals" Suarez at anfield

The reason he bit the guy was because the guy was swearing at him and trod on his foot. Anyway, i didn't see any players breaking other players' legs get any ban at all. I think that should get a larger punishment

MUSHROOM {ed's note - I think the point is that Roy doesn't even try and win away games, that is the main problem, more so than his actual record. Add that to the fact that he is making himself as much of a laughing stock in his press conferences as Christian Gross did at Spurs and it is easy to understand why he is disliked. It is just like watching that Spurs era, led by a man who didn't understand what he was taking on and who couldn't get the fans onside because he just didn't understand them or their mentality. It seems to me that Roy is exactly the same, he just doesn't understand the job or the fans and that is his big failing.}

1 player?
Adam Johnson 15 million do it he's got HUGE talent would completely solve our left side problem and i bet he'd come as hes the sort of the lad that just wants to play football gerrard is the same. sign him he's brilliant can cross he would also have immediate impact he's like babel but way way way better.
Simple
Adam Johnson in Jan would do me fine and Insua if he has improved if not play fabs and put kelly right back and play johnson as a winger with kuyt and nando in front simple?

I have watched a lot of West Ham game in the last couple of seasons (as my housemate is a Hammers supporter) and even visited Upton Park a few times.

He is better than Ngog. He is stronger, a better finisher with a more powerful shot and can hold the ball up. He is also still relatively young and is English.

Yes he is not a plaer of the same reputation as Hulk, Llorente, Suaraz, Gomez etc but he is cheaper, younger (than some of them) and English.
- - -

I'm sorry, but you have to be shot down.
David Ngog is far better than Carlton Cole and he's 6 years younger. He is not 'relatively young', if he had any quality he would have three years left at his peak because only world class players can stay consistent beyond 30 and he has no such class.
Of the four players you named, he is older than all of them by at least 2 years, much much much worse a player and would cost £10m. From what I've seen, he actually the oldest striker we've been linked with.

There is a very simple reason why he is cheaper than those players you have mentioned my friend. It is because he is not as good as they are nor is he in demand like they are.

Buying the likes of Carlton Cole can only be a further step towards mid table obscurity, in my opinion.

Liverpool HAVE to get suarez. 49 goals in 48 games is too good to dismiss

This guy is facing a 7 match ban for biting an opponent, to add to the deliberate hand ball in the world cup and then celebrating gyan missing the subsequent penalty i would rather eat ground glass than see Luis "no morals" Suarez at anfield

lol if he can score goals i don't give a mnkeys about his morals alls i care bout is liverpool winning trophies and if he can help us with that then i don't care what hes like

Some people have compared him to Heskey and whilst I think Heskey now is not a Liverpool standard player, when he first signed for us (under Houllier) he proved to be most useful and formed a very useful partnership with Owen where he could keep defenders occupied and flick the ball on which gave Owen more space and time to do his thing. I think Cole could do a similiar role for Torres.

I know I will probably be shot down for this and yes this is not a rumour, merely one Liverpool fan's opinion.

Hey guys, i know this is a bit odd and random but what do you think of us putting a £20m bid for Jack Wilshire and Keiran Gibbs. I realise that this is ambitious and Arsenal are unlikely to sell but they do have a history of selling their best players (Ashley Cole?) and these are not first teamers at the moment. They are brilliant young players and would fit in with the NESVs plans.
Would love to hear your thoughts on this ed and others reactions

Believe-we should bid

As for the players we've got just get behind them as i've never known a player play better when his own fans are on his back and have no faith in him (poulsen springs to mind )! We just have to hope that we have a good season not for woy the boys sake but for the clubs sake so the good players we've got want to stay and it looks like an attractive prospect for any incoming players! I will always back the team no matter what, & that includes whether or not Roy is manager(I along with most people on here, don't think he is up to the job.)
I just can't help wondering why he is genuinely regarded as one of 'the nicest men in football' then I thought maybe it has something to do with his purchases. . .'footballers in distress' maybe he should start his own charity. Poulson, not playing at Juventus, having a bit of a torrid time, Roys there to help get him out, then we move on to J Cole, Chelsea allienating him, not getting games, Roy to the rescue again, Konchesky a favourite of Roy, well he has certainly done well for himself out of Roy's generosity of bringing him to a club his talent does not warrant a place in. . & finally If I see Carlton Cole in a red shirt in January then I know my theory is definately correct! Roy a sympathetic man with the ability to offer any 'footballer in distress' without discrimination of age, ability or attitude a loving home. . .Our beloved club!

Hi Chris 1 thanks for your response. Please check Rafa's first 13 games in charge against Roy's first 13 games in charge and that will validate my point. I would not have expected Rafa's team to come back from 3-0 down after 13 games in charge either. But thankfully they did. We look back on Rafa's reign as it is now past tense. We have no such ability with Roy's. I agree with not wanting Roy there, but we must get behind the team and the manager that is in charge.

thnaks for your reply. i agree wholeheartdly with your sentiments regarding getting behind the team etc and the manager. In the interests of a level playing field i refer you to the following;

13-Game Premier League Analysis by TTT regular and professional data analyst Dan Kennett

With one third of the season gone, LFC are performing as badly as they've ever done in the Premier League era:

· 16 points is the joint-lowest total along with Souness in 1992/ 93

· 13 goals scored is the fewest

· Four games won is the joint-fewest along with 1992/ 93 and the ill-fated Houllier/ Evans joint tenure in 1998/ 99

· -4 is the worst goal difference we've had at this stage of the season

· 12th position in the league is the second worst, after 1992/ 93

· Five defeats is the joint-highest along with seven other seasons (including last season)

· We've got only HALF the number of points we had at this stage in 2008/ 09

If we compare against the median of Liverpool's Premier League record after 13 games then Hodgson is behind on every single measure, apart from number of clean sheets:

Even against last season's dismal campaign, this season is worse almost across the board.

Last season's points total of 20 was below the median and acknowledged as a poor start. However at least the fans had the solace of seeing some entertaining games and, of course, there was an injury crisis to contend with.

LFC had banged in 29 goals already (compared to 13 this season) and the 20 goals against meant an average of 3.8 goals per game.

At the moment we've got the worst of both worlds: shocking results and shocking entertainment.

All Hodgson had to do was recreate a typical LFC start and we'd be sitting pretty in 4th. Even maintaining the "disastrous" performance of last season would've seen us in 5th. That Liverpool sit in 11th place after 13 games in this of all seasons is the most damning indictment of all.

taken from paul tomkins.

I am fully supporting the manager and the team and want us to perform better. but lets get real here and not delude ourselves

Personally, I'm beginning to believe that Eden Hazard is a target for us.

King Kenny was watching a Lille match a few weeks ago, and now we have Hodgson over watching one of the games. And with Camolli on board, he certainly knows Hazard's ability having been in the French league with St.Etienne.

Hazard seems to fit in with Henry's idea of a signing quite perfectly. He's only 19 and would be on our team for at least 12 years if not more.

Depends on the price though. It's certainly questionable whether Liverpool would pay the reported £18m for him.

People talk about him being linked with Barcelona, R.Madrid, Man Utd, Chelsea and Arsenal. But in all honesty, I don't think one of the mentioned clubs could offer him regular first team football, whereas we could.

Barcelona have Messi, Villa, Pedro and possibly Afellay along with Bojan in their front three.
Real Madrid have Higuain, Ronaldo, Di Maria (who are now Mourinho's trusted front three) along with Pedro Leon and even Benzema.
Man Utd on the wings have Park, Valencia, Nani and when they play with three up top they have those three, along with Rooney, Berbatov and Hernandez.
Arsenal in their front trio have Van Persie, Walcott, Arshavin, Chamakh, Vela, Bentdner and Nasri has played there of late.
Chelsea have Drogba, Anelka, Malouda, Kalou, Sturridge in their front trio along with Zhirkov.

Many of the players I mentioned above, it is argueable whether they are better than Hazard, but he would have massive competition at those clubs and I know he wouldn't hold down a regular starting place.

With us, he doesn't have much competition out wide apart from Joe Cole in all honesty.

If Rafa Benitez's LFC had faced an AC Milan side in his first 3 months . . 3 - 0 down at half time , the team would not have been prepared to turn that game around .

Of course we lament the Olypiakos game , the team can only beat what is in front of them .

Rafa Benitez's first season , prior to Instanbul and the few results that were required - impressively - to get there , was awful . Reserves against Spurs in the League Cup , embarrassed by Burnley in the FA Cup , utter garbage against Watford in the League Cup Semi-Final . But naturally we forgive , due to one result - one of the greatest results .

Roy Hodgson will try to succeed this season , and I believe he will have to improve to achieve expectations . He requires more time to do that . Therefore I look forward to the necessary adjustments being made , and the positives being gained , as and when they are able to .

Here's my two pence on a lot of the rumours I am hearing today. First off, we have absolutely NO NEED for a centre half. Let I remind everyone that in that position we have a young group that is the envy of the PL:
-Daniel Agger 25 already world class granted w/ injuries
-Martin Kelly 21 our real "new Carra" for all of you who like to use that phrase but really he is bigger, stronger, faster than old man jc but equally adaptable along back 4
-Daniel Ayala 19 possibly the best cb we have. Has the ability and playing style to be like a G. Piqué
-Danny Wilson 19 proved himself for country why does he not get a look in for club

So in short we have no lack of quality CB's. What we do have is a backwards manager who only plays players over the age of about 28 if possible. Oh and add to that list Andre wisdom who is coming up the ranks and will be a very good player (see England youth team).

Does anyone disagree that cb is not a problem position but actually has the kind of depth that we want all over the pitch? Ed what do you think of the links to Shawcross or chaill? Yes they are good players but not needed right?
Anfield Rapstar

{Editor's Note: I agree with you - I don't see centre back as an issue - but I would like to see Agger back as soon as possible.}

Chris 1

I feel comfortable comparing Roy Hodgson's first season to Rafa Benitez's first season , and thus far they are about equal - to be fair .

In the interest of full disclosure , I have to say there have been times this season where I did want Roy Hodgson to leave , and also there have been times where it looked like he should leave , I wanted NESV to replace him within the fabled time period . I have seen the many negatives in many of the performances . I have seen the occassional good within the team .

Now the Club has been allied with John W Henry , and the visionary statements on behalf of Fenway Sports Group , I think the Staff and the Players are immenently readied to put results together .

Remember Rafa Benitez's LFC were awfully inconsistent and his team selections random throughout his first season - losing 14 Premier League games . he improved the Football Club in due course , within most ideal circumstances . Even Gerard Houllier during his joint tenure with Roy Evans lost 14 Premier League games , finishing 7th , in a season with less turmoil than now .

I think Roy Hodgson has inherited LFC in the most challenging of circumstances , far worse than Rafa Benitez found LFC and far more comprimised than Gerard Houllier's first 12 months .

I believe Roy Hodgosn has to improve the quality of the performances , and I reason that the direction being shown behind the scenes , is going to help the First Team Staff and Squad , compete . There are many average sides in the domestic competitions , and our European form has hope .

With time and encouragement , the team can turn this season around , Houllier and Benitez shown us how a 'post boot room' LFC Manager , needs to make progress through patience and reinforcement . Roy Hodgson can capably make use of both - and has been reassured of that , by new owners Fenway Sports Group .

The team can play better , will play better , and any new signings this season will lift the spirit further .

Domestically Roy Hodgosn can put together a better season - this season , than Gerard Houllier and Rafa Benitez gave us - during there first and last seasons .

LFC is the greatest opportunity Roy Hodgson has - and ever will have .

I am sick of hearing that January is not a good transfer window. . It might not be to teams who don't really need to do any business. .BUT WE DO. .If we don't get a striker and a winger of world class in this window we will loose torres and reina for sure in the summer. . we can sell fringe players to cover the costs easily. .Long term we need to work hard on bringing young talent to anfield and developing our youth players but that will take years. . Benzema and poss Johnson are perfect. agree with redknapp if we make no attempt for Benzema were idiots. .

reina
johnson
carragher
skrtel
konchesky
maxi
poulsen
meireles
cole
kuyt
torres

team we would like to see is an attacking team and go for it.play 433

For me Chris it's not so much the formation whatever Hodgson plays (i agree 4-4-2) is better. But even in the 2nd half against the mighty Hammers we reverted back to playing negative football i.e Defending deep, Route one football and taking the pace out of the game. I know we were 3 up but if MAN'URE, Arsenal, Chelski and even the likes of Bolton and WBA etc if the are 3 up then they keep on attacking. We should have kept the tempo up and maybe got Fernando on the score sheet we could have won that game 5 or 6 imo. But not with the negative manager we have at the momment.

All i ask for is to enjoy watching a game and i am pretty confident that's not going to happen for a while.

ok biting someone is a bit much, but the handball mate?
are you telling me you wouldn't have done the same thing in the last minute of extra time in a world cup quater final for a country that wasnt even tipped to get out of their group?

Ryan Shawcross would be a suitable replacement for Sotorius Krygiakos . Remember Martin Kelly is every inch a first team player , and better selected at Centre Back .

1977

We don't need to replace him mate, he shouldn't be here in the first place. As for Shawcross, he's just a typical English centre back, solid but just hoofs it. We DO NOT need anymore defenders like that. Wilson, Kelly, Ayala and Wisdom will be the heart of the defence in a few years (I'd like to say Agger as well but I think he'll be off soon); no need to waste about 10m when we've got replacements already.

Does anyone have any hard evidence of who we might be signing other than Roy was in Fance the other week to look at a couple of people.

Or is it Pick and a name and hope?

Just remember we still need English players as we only have the bare minimum.
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

We do not "have" to look at any English players. The ruling with regards to registration of players is as follows;

- A team can register up to 25 players to play in the Premier League.

- Off these 25 players, 8 must be classed as home grown (trained in England for 3 years before turning 21) and of these 8 players, 4 must have been trained at the particular club that is registering them.

Now the major point in terms of the registration requirement is that although you must register 8 home grown players, these could be youth / reserve players that will not feature in the first team so essentially Liverpool could fieldd a squad with 11 foreign players on the pitch with a further 6 foreign players and 1 home grown player on the bench.

If I am wrong in my thinking please let me know ED or anyone else.

May i attempt to diffuse this situation somewhat. The ed has every right to hold whatever opinion he may have. as do i. I have always found the eds to be fair and willing to post entries even if they disagree with the content.

I can quite understand how/ why my ranting about roy may appear to be negative. but i can assure you its simply a case of i care. and i earnestly do care about our team. i want us to succeed. To my eternal regret i didn't do as much as some people to withstand the pillaging of H+G. i will not make that mistake again. I would be delighted to be proved wrong about roy. and if that day ever dawns i shall be the first to come on here and apologise.

Personally. i have a wife, 2 daughters who show no sign of leaving home, a mortgage, enough bills dropping through the door to paper a house. and yet i still find money from somewhere to watch MY team. what is so so depressing at present is that i don't even get a good game of football anymore. i seem to be just seeing a team desperate not to lose.

So i have a rant. because i sacrifice a lot to watch usSo. for the record. i shall always support the TEAM. .just not roy.

chris 1

Ps. lay off blair mayne. if you read what he actually writes in his post he makes a lot of sense

{Editor's Note: Fair play Chris. My issue was as you suggest the on going anti-Roy posts. I agree he is not the best long term solution but I expect him to probably see this season out. It is critical that a good replacement is lined up in advance and that the club do not either make a knee-jerk appointment or go for someone who is entirely unsuitable. With a couple of changes in January I still expect to be challenging for the Champions League places at the end of the season.}

Morals in football? If it were for morals we wouldn't have won the CL in 2005. However, I just don't like Suarez because of his attitude. Watch his body language when he plays. He is annoyed every time one of his mates loses the ball, but he seems more tolerant towards his own failings. I think we have enough players with such attitude at the club. By the way, Lukaku is very much a work in progress. Liverpool are not known for polishing up young talent, so I would invest in a proven forward instead. By the way, with all of the negativity this year at the club, we are only a few victories away from respectability or even better. If Henry and his gang are smart, they might actually make significant funds available to get the club in CL next year. Honda or any other creative winger and a Hulk or LLorente are perhaps all we need to make the season a success after all. What do you think Mr. Ed?

{Editor's Note: I cannot see Suarez coming to Liverpool any time soon. Lukaku is most improbable - Chelsea and Ajax head the queue in my opinion. I still think Honda would be a great option plus a winger.}

"transfer spending completed before the 2011-12 season (as the first accounting period UEFA uses to measure the break-even test) would not be included in the UEFA FFPR calculations. Any large transfer spending, if it is not done in this summer or winter transfer window, would be taken into account by UEFA." August 17th, 2010

That means this January transfer window will be the last chance for clubs such as Man City to splash the cash. NESV want to be "frugal" but COME ON! This is the last window! I suspect the transfer kitty will be quite large even though expectations have been played down and I'm so glad Comolli and not Roy is in charge

I think we will just need 2-3 players come Jan window to improve things. . ppl think the owners are going to spend spend spend need to think again. There are plenty of players out there that will play for the shirt and not cost £20-30m each ( i could name plenty! ). I mean look a Man C. .I don't want us to be in any way like them!

Lets start to play for next season with a young, hungry team set-up. We need players who are:-
1.Young
2.Aggressive (ball winners)
3.Can play in a number of positions
4.Have the right attitude to learn
5.Willingness to work for the team

Mix them in with Stevie G etc and you'll soon have a team that would be as good as any! This will take a bit of time to do but in the long run, you will have a better club, better finances, better trophy cabinet and better ground to play at!

Never mind the style of play we are being forced to endure at present. If you want a clue to roys mentality regarding football and his mid team mentality then read the following. these are a liverpools managers responses to the press regarding our play, his vision, etc. i could easily have filled pages of this sort of stuff. Do you really really want someone like this in charge of us. one of the greatest clubs in the world.

25 August 2010 – "I thought for long periods of the game it was fairly even and both teams passed the ball fairly well in the middle of the park. But the difference, as in all games, is goals." (After Man City 3-0 loss. Simply not an accurate reflection of the game.)

Describing the Trabzonspor win as "a famous victory".

Today was a famous victory because we hadn't won more than once away in the whole of 2010, "

* * *

16 July 2010 – "He's a player I know very little about." (About French international striker, Loïc Rémy.)

Unfortunately, when you give yourself an uphill task with a 0-2 you've got to expect it's going to be very difficult in the second half against a team of Blackpool's quality."

Liverpool hadn't lost a home game to a promoted side since 1999.

* * *

16 September 2010 – "You don't play in the Europa League to play against poor opponents."

* * *

22 September 2010 – "They'll be a formidable challenge – there's no question about that." (About Northampton Town. Who were at the time 17th in the 4th tier of English football.)

23 September 2010 – "Northampton were clearly better than one would have expected from a team playing where they play." And on 18-year-old Shelvey's debut…. "He did well but the fact is he came on in extra-time and people were tiring."

26 September 2010 – "…in many ways it was the performance we wanted."

"I think over the 90 minutes we were certainly more than worth the point we got." (After dreadful Sunderland performance. A team we had dispatched 3-0 the previous year.)

* * *

1 October – "So it's a good point to take back to Liverpool. Four points out of two games. It's the first time we haven't won one of these games but to be honest it would have been unfortunate for them if we'd won the game tonight. They would have felt hard done by. For me, a draw was a more than satisfactory result." (After Utrecht 0-0. They're not even in the top 100 European clubs by UEFA coefficient.)

2 October 2010 – "What do you mean do my methods translate? They have translated from Halmsteds to Malmo to Orebo to Neuchatel Xamax to the Swiss national team."

* * *

17 October 2010, after 2-0 defeat at Everton "This was always going to be a difficult game to win." (It wasn't for the previous two Reds' managers.)

"To get a result here and win the game would have been utopia."

"I hope that fair-minded people see the game the same way. I think it's a bit unfortunate that after such a good game of football, everything revolves around the fact that Liverpool didn't win it."

"We didn't score goals and Everton did but I refuse to accept that we were in any way outplayed or any way inferior. I watched the performance and the second half was as good as I saw a Liverpool team play under my management that is for sure."

Andfinally some of my favourites! !

"I hope we don't get beaten too heavily" … before the friendly with Al Hilal

"I hope we don't get beaten 6-0" … before the Man City game.

* * *

Do you think, Torres is more suiteable to playing alone, or with a striking partner?

RH: "I don't know."

I could have added loads. but you get the idea, in many ways roy just doesn't see himself as a winner or seem to realise where he actually is. This is not fulham or scandanavia. this is liverpool roy. we expect a lot more and not least in your dealings with the media

Absolutely correct, both of you. For all rafa's faults he was a man who had a great passion for the club, he did the best job he could for the city and the club. I find it so so annoying to hear so called supporters using derogatroy terminolgy to describe someone who was a good manager for us. i didn't notice them complaining when he won us some silverware. a prospect that is highly unlikely under the present person in charge.
You expect people down the east lancs road to describe rafa as "the waiter" etc. but to hear our own supporters do the same. words fail me
I am not saying we should have rafa back. things have moved on. but what i would like back is someone who is a bit more profficient in using the media, who will defend players, the club etc. rather than be more concerned about upsetting other people.

Well said Chris. This is exactly how I feel as well. Obviously not everyone feels the same, but in my opinion the way we are playing now is not the style of football I like and more importantly not the style of football that will attract the majority of players people are posting as transfer tergets. I also feel that many of our better players we currently have will look to leave aswell. I certainly would like to keep Agger, Torres, Reina, three of the people rumoured to be unhappy.

Many thanks. .At times i just get so annoyed at people saying. "oh the roy haters will start again now". well it isn't anything personal at all about the guy. As a man he seems quite a decent bloke but just totally wrong for us, i don't like his style of play, his whole mentality is that of preserving mid table mediocrity at any price. i want more than that. I pay a large chunk of my hard earned money to go and watch us play. but its becoming harder and harder to know that i am going to watch boring defensive safety first football

Can anyone tell me a manager that gets every signing right! fair enough he did sign some tripe but we have to take the good with the bad! there is nothing to say that another new manager wouldn't sign cr*p and we would all be slating him! As for the transfer window u have to ask urself what player is going to want to come to Anfield at the moment? If you were a player and had the choice of coming to us or going to chelski, manure, arse, man shi* y, where would u go? i think we will sign players that can't get in at other top teams i.e a.johnson at city but that would be good for us as i think hes just what we need but city would probably want mega money just because he has played a couple of games for england now!

thanks for the link, and in some of his older articles he constantly used to back up rafa (with statistics).
Things quietened down regarding "get rid of roy" on this site after the west ham game but come Monday everyone will start again because it's an away game. The worst thing is that I don't have any faith that we can win or even draw. At least with rafa, even as underdogs e.g against barca, there was always that belief that we could pull of a miracle which we so often did.

Sorry. not true. We don't by any means expect roy to get the job done overnight. what we do expect is for him to at least try and play a semblance of attcking football, and not just 2 banks of four and hoof the ball to a lone striker. We expect him to handle the media properly. the media is the outlet that the club/ manager communicates with the fans. almost everyone i talk to thinks roys press conferences are little short of cringeworthy. This from a man who has 30 years of being a manager! !

Please just tell me what positive signs have you seen to convince you that roy is capable of turning things round. one good 45 min performance against chelsea and a good 3-0 against an appalling west ham side.

I do not expect him to get it right NOW. but i can't see any signs that he working toward something other than turning us into fulham mark 2. sorry i don't want that

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

sorry.

Does anyone else feel we are going to lose pacheco in the coming transfer Windows and in a few years look back and wonder why we let this little gem go. He needs to playing in the first team before it's to late and I could see him playing well with torres. Come on Roy open your eyes and start playing the lad.

To the posters below

I am ashamed of how we treated and continue to treat an absolute gentleman who loved this club."

This is so true , and its very sad how so few people understood what Rafa was trying to do last year, he is one of Liverpool's biggest fans , he tried to use his position to tell us about the bad things that were happening behind the scenes , what he did eventually cost him his job . and instead of being appreciated he is being slagged off again again .
Come on people he is 100 times better manager than the muppet we got now . Roy cares very much for his job and will do what ever he can, but Roy is not a liverpool fan, and from his interviews , I don't think he will ever want to be one.

Roy
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Spot on again Roy!

I know some people dislike and blame Rafa for our failings now. But like Roy said Rafa is probably as much an LFC fan as any of us on this site.

Yes Rafa had some faults that are well documented but for me he is and always will be one of us. Dosn't mean to say i want him back of course but people should understand he loves the club and the fans as much as anyone.

We can't keep blaming Rafa for our team. displays etc he is gone. The answer for me is simple at all clubs around the world if the team is not doing well or as expected (LFC) then the buck always stops at the manager. Just look at the scrutiny Ancelotti is under now with 3 loses out of 4 in the Premiership and an unconvincing performance against Zelina. This is the same manager who won Chelski the double in his 1st season is still top of the league and won their CL group. But is apparently under pressure for recent league results. Makes you wonder how Hodgson is still the manager at our great club.

A question? If you had a choice for Rafa or Roy to speak on behalf of the Team/ Club who would you pick?

Blair Mayne YNWA
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Absolutely correct, both of you.

Went down to watch the mini derby last night and for all you who want to see Suso, amoo, ecclestone playing regular in the prem believe me they are good but nowhere near ready for a regular starting role.Danny Wilson is going to be a class act he was superb, Pacheco has to be close to a first team start.Wilson and Pacheco are deffo ready and young Flanagan at right back impressed, reminded me of Carragher with his attitude and effort.

Watched a bit of the Real Vs Ajax game last night. Benzema scored a great goal, he would be a top signing for the red men but after his recent improvement in form I doubt Real will let him leave.

Ed, remember that Jan Molby carried a few extra pounds in his day and was still a club great.

{Editor's Note: I recall Meneer Molby very well indeed.}

Benzema nor Adebayor are bad players and would be a perfect addition to a team of this magnitude with 1 above average striker. If Roy played Pacheco as a support striker we wouldn't be talking about this. We still have money to spend from the Mascherano deal and NESV may add £30 million. Sad to see teams like Bolton, Sunderland, Stoke, Tottenham, Newcastle with better strikers than us (we only have Nando and sometimes Kuyt and the inconsistent Ngog-who has played better)

Possible Ins: Only 4 players would come in
Benzema (£15M, but not likely to come)
Llorente (£25M, but not likely to come)
N'Zogbia (£9M, worth the money!)
Bentley (£5M, Commoli likes him-take a chance?)
Turan (£13M, Comm likes him and scouted him)
Park Chu-Young (£7M fantastic player in the mold of
Park ji sung and Lee Chung Yong)
Adam Johnson (£15M, This would be awesome!)
Bryan Ruiz (£10M, can play both wings and striker)
Coentrao (£25, a lot of money for a LB, may be?)
Taiwo (£10M, May not want to leave France)
Greizmann (£7M, Possibilty)
Payet (£8M, Possibility)
Leandro Lopez (£15M, Possiblity)

Possible Outs:
Aquilani (£15M, anything lower would be a rip off)
Babel (£8M, A Dutch team)
Jovanovic (£5M, Utrect would pay it)
Poulsen (£1M, will only leave if Roy gets fired)
Konchesky (£3M, same as above, keep ur fingers crossed)
Johnson (£17M, Still a possiblity)

SIM THE RED
(P.S., My picks are P.C. Young, N'Zogbia, Radamel Falcao, Adam Johnson and bring back Insua!)

{Editor's Note: There is no Mascherano money - there never has been.}

Ed it does my head to see non scousers at Anfield watching games.

Every week I sit a few rows back from some old Scottish bloke called Kenny and can't help feeling why a born and bred scouser isn't sitting there.

Our American owners have got to lay the law down and stop these non scousers entering the ground.

We should sell Torres and all the other johnny foreigners and only play lads born within the city limits.

It does my head in we have a statue to that Scottish pillock Shankly outside the ground it should be one of a true scouser like Ken Dodd or summit.

We should lift the boycott on the S*n because at least that paper owned by an Austrialian born American citizen is consistent in fighting foreigners ruining this country.

I know you will agree Ed

We expect Roy Hodgson to get the job done overnight . We never asked that of Rafa Benitez .

77, I like what you have posted, you are a positive red, and that is exactly what we should all be.

My contention is that Rafa has raised the bar, and his legacy should reflect that. Sure, he made mistakes in the transfer market, a blind man can see that. but to say he was the worst manager, to discount H&G's influence and to call him the 'fat waiter' like the other poster did makes my blood boil. This was a Liverpool manager for God's sake, and for all his faults, he did win us a CL.

The same way the media attempted to destroy Keegan, they attempted to destroy Benitez. I call on all LFC fans to keep an open mind about Benitez, do not buy into the man ure press narrative. If you aspire to have an IQ above 100, open any paper, read the date, and realise that this is the only thing you can trust.

77, keep the faith, dog. We are Liverpool. We prevail.
