Charlie Adam is 90% certain to join Liverpool in the summer. He will be the replacement for Christian Poulson who will certainly be leaving for as little as £1mil. The proposed Benzema deal is dead due to his reurn to form, Liverpool were hopeful for a cut price £18mil deal but Real will now demand the £30mil+ they paid for him. Although Fernando Gago and Lassana Diarra are possible targets for under £10mil. Bojan Krkic is available to anyone who can offer £22mil, although Liverpool are pondering a move for Daniel Sturridge who will cost about half that. Damien Commoli is a smart man with an eye for talent, don't be suprised to see a few curve balls in the summer!

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

I think your spot on there mate. I like the idea of Gago or Diarra coming in, preferably Diarra due to his EPL experience. Also I think getting Sturridge in, which would be cheap, is a steal!

hang on a minute why are you saying that would be the cheap option? we now have the money to spend on class recriutment's & no longer have to bargain hunt. if we bargin hunt liverpool f.c. will not move forward.

The Wickham rumours are gaining pace because we may be able to offset the 10m price tag by getting 6m for Ngog - a couple of Prem clubs interested but both currently fighting relegation so by no means certain they would follow up their interest. If we sign Wickham he could be loaned straight back to our old mate Paul Jewell for 6 months.

PieInTheSkyMan

i hope we don't get connor wickham he hasnt set the chapionship alight as he? if we are going to buy someone from a lower division they need to be an extra ordinary talent not just a player who looked good a few season's ago & done nothing since or we won't be getting in the best young talent around would we.

For those who want us to sign Toinevin from PSV - let's not. He is currently serving a four match ban for elbowing and opponent and today he was sent off in a friendly match against RKC Waalwijk for comments he made to the referee (only the Mancy Monkey is allowed to get away with that!). He really does seem to be a disturbing influence on the field.
Mal 44 {Ed005's Note - He doesn't seem like the type of striker we need to add anyway.}

Just a quick point to make regarding reina, I think his talk is very unsettling and Kenny should make his choice for him and sell him to the highest bidder excluding manure, its like Torres all over again.I'd like to see Lloris of Lyon and Westwood of Coventry signed as replacements

IrishKev,

Believe me I've been p***ed most days but fly back to blighty at stupid o clock early tomorrow, hence why I'm on here rather than enjoying the krakow night life.

Don't get me wrong, I know we need another striker, but I think we could do worse for fourth choice than N'Gog who (i think still) has potential, so I'd give him another 12 months. it's so obvious we need options, it made me sick when man u sent Rooney off for a state-side holiday because he hurt his poor little ankle but we always rushed Gerrard and Torres back because we had nothing without them.

On another note my dad and godfather (not the mafia type) have some (admittedly precarious) links with FSG and rumour is reina might leave depending on the level of investment in the squad, I hope this doesn't come to pass but if it does I would ship jones out (hes never been good enough) and bring in Neuer for 1st choice and Maxwell from wrexham for reserve, I've seen him a few times and think he could be the real deal in1-2 years time. As I said, for me competition for places is key

I hear you, and I think Suso will be a super star (just not sure in EPL and with LFC - like Pacheco). Do you disagree though that he can only really play just behind the striker/ s? If Suso had more pace, he would have been bought for 30m already.

Maybe its not really a strength/ size issue, but a mentality thing. Lucas has bulked up a bit, but still gets pushed off the ball far too often. Spearing is smaller, but he fights for the ball. Aquilani took one look and thought "This is too physical for me" or "I don't like getting kicked all game". .
Would Xavi be as great a player if he had played his whole career in England? Just a thought.

I'm sure the Ed's will agree that a lot of top players never end up in England due to the pace and physicality? (which imo makes it the best league by a mile). Actually can't bear to watch SerieA anymore, 22 Nani's on the pitch all game.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Id agree with you on three points: Serie A is terrible to watch at times, Suso's best position would be just off the striker and wouldn't be great in center mid role. I have to disagree with you on the xavi point though, if he was brought to england in his early 20's he would still be one of the best players in the world. I do think barcas style brings out the best in him but still would fit in any team in EPL. Look at Cesc he was a simillar build to Suso and had simillar qualities when he broke into the arsenal team and now is one of the best players in the league. I would liken Suso to Iniesta where he is best in an advanced position and i think he is the kind of player we should look to build a side around in a few years. With Lucas I think he is too weak on the ball but i don't think he uses his body enough to shield the ball and isn't technically good enough to move the ball away from an opponent quick enough. I would love to see Suso come in and deputise for Meireles next year as i can only see him being played in an advanced midfield position as he isn't strong enough to play center mid either.
In regards to pacheo i think he is different to Suso, pacheo is more like suarez, a second striker, while Suso is an advanced midfielder who can control the tempo of the game and has the ability to link the whole attack, like a Nasri. Would you not agree? Ed would you agree? Also do you know if the erik lamela, the river plate player, interest is real or just more made up news to fill the gossip columns?

I can understand all the worries about Pepe Reina leaving we love the man and most of think he is best in the world, but like most liverpool fans i watch read as much of the information available and to be honest alot is repeated and there is lots out there. But having watched reserve football on lfc.tv and read what ex-players and some of the so alled experts say if pepe leaves would Peter gulacsi (sorry id spelt wrong) not be worth a chance as he is held in high regard by coaches/ experts and Pepe himself and had a great time at Tranmere on loan, and also from what ive seen looks the business and could save us millions

sorry for long post, just an opiniin

Saric reminds me of Dzeko.
I doubt he'll make it in the first team. But you never know.
He was injured for ages, and for him to come back and be a regular scorer is pretty good.

In my view there's no need for a cb, we have a lot of talent coming through to compliment the strengths (and weaknesses) of skrtel and agger. Ayala, Wilson and Kelly are all going to be good enough.

As for a left back I think Enrique would be our best bet, he would be solid (and cheap) without being extravagant which I think is often under-rated in full backs.
As for wingers, while I keep my fingers crossed for mata (and pray every night for krasic of juve) I do think Jarvis, young, marveaux and n'zogbia would all be good additions. With the exception of marveaux they all cause EPL teams problems week in week out and can play either wing.

For a centre mid I would like to see Adam, and M'Vila join, for me gerrard is past it and while undoubtedly useful is never going to regain his 08-09 form, and we need competition for places; Adam/ meireles and Lucas/ m'vila.
As for strikers I think N, Gog should be kept for one more season, he's like Torres in that even though he's quite tall he prefers to have the ball played to his feet which (thanks to carra's hoofing) never happens. I would like to see us bring in another forward too, if as the eds suggest pachecos attitude doesn't match his talent. Hulk or benzema would be my choice (budget permitting)

Finally a personal message to mr j carragher; just because we have a big lad up front doesn't mean you have to hoof it in his direction every time, you never were xabi alonso, and even an average Sunday league team can deal with long balls when they can see them coming, no wonder we couldn't beat braga when we rarely tried to play through them.

Must be a sh** holiday J if you're posting on here.
I'd be on the p**$ all day, every day if i was you mate lol.
Agree with some of your points though.
But for me N'gog has had his chance - time for a change. He's just not quite up to it!
Championship player at best on current form!
Just doesn't do enough for me & doesn't scare defenders into errors like a Suarez or Torres used to do.
Enjoy the holiday J! !
Lucky begger lol!
Cheers,

Ed is the marveux deal genuinely off?
i'd be glad if it is as we seem pretty set on young, and i would prefer a second left midfielder who can actually make a bursting run and put in a final ball, which isn't apparently marveuxs strong point {Ed005's Note - I haven't heard that it is totally off. I've just heard that Marveaux is keeping his options open at the moment.}

Re: Coentrao

A lot of talk of Coentrao being a shocking defender. But surely defence can be worked on and is more about organisation? He has licence to be forward all the time for Benfica (so does get caught out of position a lot), when he plays for Portugal he gets forward less and looks ok defensively to me. I think defence can be worked on, but to have a wonderfully skillful LB who can get forward, beat defenders and cross well, is invaluable. I would sign him in a flash - although I like Baines a lot and would be a third of Coentrao's price.

Look how Johnson has proved doubters wrong with the aid of Clark. He looks class again.

No1SAfan {Ed005's Note - I don't think it would be wise to spend £20m+ on a defender and spend a season or so trying to teach him how to defend. If we planned on using him as a left-winger I'd be delighted if he signed. We're better buying a left-back who can defend well and he would probably cost less than half.}

Not a bad game for the Ressies, I just wish we could have pulled of a late winner. John Flanagan, Jack Robinson, or Suso would be MOTM for me. Flanagan showed his composure at defense and I love the fact that he always plays simple, never making bad passes and rarely hoofing the ball. He needs to improve his crosses. Robinson was great going forward and was solid defensively, definitely one to look for in the future. He needs to improve on his passing though, he needs to play more simple when passing in the back. Suso was great, especially after switching to the middle. He worked hard, distributed the ball well and made himself available as an outlet. He needs to work on his pace a bit and his tackling ability, he could also be a bit quicker when he passes. Andre Wisdom was solid in defence, he didn't really have much to do. Mendy struggled with his distribution. Roberts played well in the second half, he won a lot of tackles. Ince hogged the ball put played well otherwise, he needs to learn how to finish. Saric played poor, he along with Mendy, Thomas and Irwin will leave in the summer. Silva gave us a spark when he came on but also could work on finishing. Was really gutted that Coady didn't start, now he can't play for 3 weeks cause of the red card. Would like to see the starting XI look like this:

- - - - - - - - - - - -Hansen- - - - - - - - - - -
Flanagan- - Wisdom- - - - -Sama- - -Robinson
- - - - - - - -Coady- - - - -Roberts- - - - - - -
- - - - -Silva- - - - - Suso- - - - - Ince- - - - -

ED are we interested in affelay , do you think barcelona would sell cheers ed {Ed005's Note - He wants to play more which will be extremly difficult when he's competing with so many talented players. Messi will be in the team regardless of who else is there so he's effectivly competing with Villa, Pedro and Jeffren for a spot in the front three, and with Xavi and Iniesta for a place in the midfield. It is Barcelona's intention to sign a central-midfielder in the Summer - Fabregas being the first option but if not then Borja Valero. It will be hard for Afellay to get solid minutes under his belt let alone cement a place in the first-team. Plus, Pep Guardiola doesn't seem to be too worried about having a thin squad, as he likes to play a similar starting XI for most of the season. If Afellay wants to become a regular in a team then his best option is to leave Barcelona. We need creativity in our midfield and I think he'd be a good signing. Whether Barcelona let him go or not is unknown.}

The idea that some players arent strong enough to play is long gone, if you have the desire and technique they can deal with any league, look at small players like xavi, inesta and cesc when is the last time you saw them lose the ball because they werent strong enough? I have no doubt he will be good enough for the first team in the future along with some of the other talents coming through the system.

Thanks for your response earlier if you have the time would you please expand on your personal possible targets, ie: other positions such as goalkeeper (if pepe decides to leave hope not) defenders, wingers, defensive midfielders, (I appreciate you are busy but if you get the time i would be greatfull.) {Ed005's Note - If Reina leaves, I would personally choose De Gea to replace him. I think he's an outstanding goalkeeper. I think we need a left-back but I don't know many left-backs out there. I would love Aly Cissokho but unrealistic. Yann M'Vila would be my choice for defensive midfielder - he's a brilliant player.}

24 Mar 2011 20:47:16
No1SAfan {Ed005's Note - Kenny will use a variety of formations next season. The 3-5-2 formation is a good formation. I feel that it allows us to have width in the form of the wing-backs, let us play with two up front and let us play with 3 CM's as sometimes using only two you can get dominated in the midfield.}

************
I dunno Ed. I really think Kenny is only doing it as we have no wingers. He will buy wingers and I think this will change.

I also feel 3-5-2 is essentially defensive and more an actual 5-3-2 (Johnson gets forward less than usual when we play it - if the team we playing has wide men, he is back defending all game). It also makes us too narrow and midfielders have no time and space. A player like Meireles will not cope in that system. 4-4-2 with a strong player like M'Vila and one of Meireles/ Gerrard/ Adam or 4-2-3-1 with Gerrard and M'Vila with Meireles/ Suarez behind Carroll. Well that's my opinion.

Lata
No1SAfan {Ed005's Note - It has worked well any time we played it, notably at Stamford Bridge. We were too narrow anyway, but it gave Johnson and Kelly the freedom to get forward and try to provide width without leaving us short at the back. I like the formation and think it works well. But it is important that we can play different formations as we don't want to be caught out in games.}

SUSO IS SO SKILLFULL! WHAT A PLAYER , HONESTLY WHAT A GEM WE HAVE WITH HIM , FIRST TEAM MATERIAL FOR ME {Ed005's Note - I've heard that for all of his ability, he doesn't seem to be progressing as much as other young players.}

*********
Where will he play? Not quick enough for a wideman, not physical enough for CM. Not an out an out CF. So i guess he could play in the whole behind Carroll - where Suarez is tailor-made for. Pacheco is the same. Bruna too. We have a lot of players that will never physically cut it in EPL (except for Sterling who I hope puts on a bit of meat in the next few years)

Strange, I know I will get criticised, but I really have not got all the hype around Kelly. He has been good but not as wonderful as I have been hearing. he has pace and puts 110%, but he is essentially a CD (I would be playing him there already with Agger).

No1SAfan

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

How can you say these players will never be physically big enough for the EPL, Suso is only 16 so will no doubt improve on his strenght and im sure he already has a strenght and conditioning program. He has showed, in most games i have seen him play, a quality that not alot of players seem to pocess which is being able to get his body between the ball and his opponent and rarely loses the ball as a result. Ed one question about your point that he isn't meant to be progressing as much as the others, why is he always playing reserve team football while the rest of the majority of the u18 squad doesnt, even though he is the same age as coady, morgan, sterling etc? Surely if he wasnt progressing he wouldn't be playing at a higher level than the rest in his age bracket?

Affelay - Barca look to cash in , Good signing if we can get)

Adam looks certain to join

Coentrao ( I would like him to come to LFC)

Arda Turan - great talent but don't think we have shown enough interest

Gervinho

Sanchez- looks unlikely

Houllier & Rafa changed the identity of our great club. We saw an influx of foreign players not good enough, buying of has-beens, terrible team selections and baffling tactics, good english players chased away and negative defensive football became our philosophy. I hope Rafa stays far away from Anfield.

No1SAfan {Ed005's Note - You been speaking to Jason McAteer and David Fairclough? Or did you watch LFC.TV today? ;)}

***************
Here in Sunny SA every LFC game is televised live, but LFCTV is always televised delayed a couple of times a week and very late at night. Not a big fan of it - just like the academy review bit. Not a big fan of fairclough, he is too nice and always sugar coating. I do get over for business twice a year and always take in a game.

Honestly, I never liked Houllier or Rafa. I grew up loving LFC in the 80's for their style of play. Under these too it changed so much and we bought so many rubbish players with no heart for the cause. But I will always support and live in hope Kenny will bring it back. Goals, skill and excitement should always be high on the agenda. This is what made LFC the biggest supported club in SA.

There's been a lot of talk about how Carroll isn't worth 35 million pounds lately and I'm not going to argue that, I just want people to try to understand what Kenny and FSG were thinking. At 22 years of age, Carroll is still a developing player, and considering that he has 11 goals and 7 assists in his first year in the Prem speaks volumes about his ability. He may seem like a one dimensional player at first sight but he does have a decent touch that will only get better with the pass and move football that we are playing. It just takes time for the players to get used to his style of play because its not very common these days to a centre forward like him, but once they do they will realize that hoofing the ball up to him every time isn't always the answer. In addition to that, with Torres we had an inconsistent and unhappy striker but with Suarez and Carroll we have a very difficult duo to play against who work hard and want to play. When it comes down to it, if you had to choose between Carroll and Suarez and Torres and Babel who would you choose? I'd take Carroll/ Suarez any day.

Sorry ed i couldnt disagree anymore if i tried , hes playing well tonight and always plays well when i watch him , and as im typing this he has done another peice of magic , im sorry but suso is class and will make it , he is so skillfull and attack minded , something we have really lacked in the first team this season. {Ed005's Note - If you care to read back you would see that never once doubted his quality, I just heard from one or two people that other players seem to be progressing more than Suso.}

Suso still has a long way to go to be a top player. He has the technical skill, but you could use more pace if we were to play him out wide. Personally, I'd try to breed him in central attacking role in a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 because he has the strength to fend of opposing midfielders and the vision to provide service to the attacking players. Right now, he is still raw talent, and he has a long, long way to go before he should even be considered for a spot in the first team. I'm not saying that he won't make it, but don't expect him to be like Fabregas and play first team football at 18.

24 Mar 2011 20:15:14
Much as i love kenny and he is a great man manager, i do love rafa and please don't shoot me down or the such fellas but i would like to see rafa back as manager cos he really loved the club and i think if he was given a good budget and more faith from the club he could do better, as he wants to come back as well. i would love to see kenny in a "director of football" sort of role, but getting to see the players a lot etc.

what do you think ed? and did you see his interview with sky?

cheers

It's pretty simple. Carroll isn't much more than a target man.

He will be beneficial though, against the more physical teams.

Matthew. . {Ed005's Note - I don't think the club spent so much money on Carroll to stick him on the bench.}
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Yes Carroll is a target man but he's one of the best out there. Him and Luis will compliment each other perfectly. But Caroll will also bring midfielders into play i.e Gerrard, Mireless etc. And when we get wingers in the summer to provide width and crosses for him, he will get over 20 goals a season imo.

The Ed's right, why spend 35 mill then put him on the bench? We've needed another target man since Crouchy left.

Houllier & Rafa changed the identity of our great club. We saw an influx of foreign players not good enough, buying of has-beens, terrible team selections and baffling tactics, good english players chased away and negative defensive football became our philosophy. I hope Rafa stays far away from Anfield.

Dont be suprised to see this team come August.

Reina
Kelly CB Agger LB
Meireles CM Gerrard LW
Suarez ST

Subs: Gulacsi, Carra, Johnson, Carroll, CM, Kuyt, RW

so you put 7 places as blank a cm as right midfielder and are 35 million forward on the bench

24 Mar 2011 19:35:48
If Reina goes it's not for a last chance attempt at anything like some are stating. He's 29 in the summer. . still got 10 years left if injury free.

If he goes, I have no idea other than he has it in his Liverpool can't compete for honors - he could stay if he sees some serious investment. If he wants to be Spain's number 1 he'll need to move to Spain so Utd. no good to him.

Ed's: Any thoughts on the formation Kenny will set us up in next year? With Carroll I would love a 4-4-2 with two genuine quality wide players, one hard working CM (M'Vila) and one skillful CM (Adam/ Gerrard/ Meireles). I personally do not like the 3-5-2 which with Lucas is actually 4 CD's. I actually think playing with Lucas sitting so deep (right in front of back 4) is creating our problems in not getting the ball out properly and allowing teams to push onto us. If we are playing attacking free flowing football, our defence won't be under pressure all game.

I don't ever remember it being our way to play with an extra CD (DM) all game. The 2 x CM players must do the box to box imo (one more defensive and one more attacking) We need width and to spread the play - making space for Gerrard or Meireles).

No1SAfan {Ed005's Note - Kenny will use a variety of formations next season. The 3-5-2 formation is a good formation. I feel that it allows us to have width in the form of the wing-backs, let us play with two up front and let us play with 3 CM's as sometimes using only two you can get dominated in the midfield.}

To the joker who was portraying rafa's team as sub standard. I think you are not exactly being objective. Whilst I feel he made some poor signings I would point out the likes of veron or taibi at manure, shevchenko at Chelski or Capello as England manager. . everyone gets it wrong once in a while!

but you got me thinking, here is eleven of players I wish we had never signed.

The only candidate better equiped and more in tune with LFC and its traditions than King Kenny is the one and only RAFA BENITEZ.

Now Rafa has thrown his hat in the ring I think Kenny will do the right thing and step aside taking a ceremonial role and leave it to Rafa to deliver number 19.

When I heard he wants back I couldnt stop smiling. DONT STALL ON THIS FENWAY!

SUSO IS SO SKILLFULL! WHAT A PLAYER , HONESTLY WHAT A GEM WE HAVE WITH HIM , FIRST TEAM MATERIAL FOR ME {Ed005's Note - I've heard that for all of his ability, he doesn't seem to be progressing as much as other young players.}

I might be wrong but didn't rafa always state that he wanted total control over the club which was the reason for rick parry leaving? (also similar issues in milan) so why would the owners choose to bring someone in that would struggle to work with a director of football and why would rafa want to come back when he knows comolli would have such a large influence over matters? in my opion i think it would be a mistake to bring rafa back. don't get me wrong we had some good moments but just sometimes he would let problems off the pitch cloud his judgement on the pitch which was the job he was paid to do at the end of the day

On ESPN Press Pass they're saying Kenny will no doubt get the manager's job next season . They're also saying Carroll and Suarez will be better than Keegan and Toshack. They also stated if we can't get Champions League this season we should make about 6 good signings in the summer and push for the LEAGUE TITLE next season! ! Another thing was that we have a team of players that want to play for us for the passion not the money . To me this shows we are moving in the right direction and if players aren't proud to wear the jersey, don't let them! What are your thoughts on that Ed ? {Ed005's Note - In Dalglish we have a manager who earns the respect of the players and who the players want to play for. I have no doubt that if he was here since August we'd be genuine contenders for 4th place or higher. If we can get quality in during the Summer then I'm confident we can challenge for a CL spot next season. You wouldn't expect a title challenge, but when Suarez and Carroll get going, with quality additions you never know. But we have to invest in the squad.}

Does anyone remember Tony Yeboah (leeds striker 90's) now he could kick a ball. The rocket man. Never seen a player hit a ball so hard.

i remember him well i was at elland rd when they won. 1-0 and yeboah scored a volley that flew past james hit the underside of the bar and bounced in - from the other end ofthe ground it looked brilliant - hated losing but what an absolute belter to lose to. and leeds were quite good then
you are right tho he could strike a ball he scored an absolute screamer at wimbledon as well i recall he took it on his thigh stepped forward and lashed it into the top corner

Affelay would be a fantastic signing for us.His understanding with Suarez would be a plus for his intergration with the team.He is quick and as a eye for goal.Him, Gago and a quality left back, would be my choices. add Adam and a back up striker and we would have a squad that should challenge for honours next season. Ayala, Kelly, Wilson and Flanagan, are capable of making the next step and challenge the old guard Carra and Greek for a starting place.

Umm. . Pretty sure that a dutch former PSV player would have minimal understanding with uraguayan former AJAX player? :S admit that hes a good player tho.

Quick question for anyone, editors included. Having been a poster on this site for a while now & having noticed some crazy fantasy future line ups lol, i assume a lot of you play FM 2011?!?!
So can anyone tell me why when ya send a good prospect out on loan does his value always seem to drop? Its doin my nut in! Surely it should climb as he is playing matches?!
Other than that situation i am the perfect manager lol!
I blame Comolli for it myself lol!
Cheers in advance & in hope,

I honestly think next is time to move Kelly to CB and shift GJ back to his preferred side. This would mean we only have to invest in a LB (say 10mil), we can then concentrate on attacking flair which is a more pressing matter to support the two front men. Steve Clarke has galvanised our defence in the short time he has been here and with a new LB, a back 4 including GJ MK DA and maybe Enrique it would be more than adequate for a CL spot. If a CB was bought I would like to see Scott Dann ( local, passionate and gives it his all, to me he would become a technically enhanced JC, and wouldn't cost half as much as Cahill).

{Ed002's Note - Odd, my answer does seem to have disappeared. I don't disagree that Dalglish was the right person to put in place in the short-term, but to move forward in the longer term I think another solution to either him of Benitez would be better for the club. And I have the same feelings with respect to Mourinho at Chelsea. There are other options that were being considereed and a long term plan was being put in place - although that relied upon Mourinho coming back for two years from 2012 (to settle the unfinished business) before moving on to be replaced by someone else. Whilst he is a real character, it is not for me the way forward. But there remains a good chance that we will see some managerial changes this summer.}

Ed how much do u think we will spend in the summer {Ed002's Note - There is no way of knowing - there will not be a set budget per se. Much will also depend on how the club has managed financially this year. The obvious savings have been the interest payments on the loans. One off costs include pay offs to coaching staff and additional legal fees. Costs not to forget are the money outstanding on Aquilani and payments that will fall due on Cole and Jovanovic leaving (if they do leave). I have no doubts that the owners will provide some additional monies as well, but the club really needs to be self-financing.}

I hope not mate Johnson has shown a great attitude towards his change of position and he can play at both left and right full back and possibly further forward if needed and also he is English , I hope we can do what is ever possible to keep hold of him.

RE:Best liverpool team of the past

I think the best team has to be respective of your memories of those players and where you was when you saw the important games ect. So its always different for every fan. I personally like most of the players from the 90's. I thought that was the most exciting time in premiership.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

I agree with you there mate i grew up watching the Pool around the late nineties so didn't get to see or understand much of the 90's football but from 00 - present that's what im basing my best Liverpool team on. Isn't it crazy that we have not had brilliant wingers since McManaman or Barnes, players have come in like Babel, Nunez, Pennant, Smicer, Maxi and so on but none of them have been able to live up to their potential. Its the one thing that we have been missing throughout the years

Re mourinho and " footballs worst keith secret"

Ed has explained that he knows why we won't get him. He has said he can't tell us why. I really rate this site . I don't have sources at the club but do in glasgow. Aside from wish lists and speculation people like eds n Macca are obviously givin good info from trusted sources they don't want to betray. Why risk losing good sources to talk about things that won't happen.

I expect that Jose is in line for manure job and can't come because it would jeopardise his chances of takin that Job in future. Jose is a top coach undeniably, but he won't come to us and I expect he wouldn't want to. We have a trusted and loved manager in kk who is progressing and shown ambition at a club he lives and breaths. Let's all give kk our support. And not waste time on pointless speculation.

I personally don't want someone who feels they r bigger than our club. And let's not forget that Jose has managed three of the biggest bank rolled clubs in world football. We don't have the cash for him to play championship manager and buy a squad overnight.

I'm very intrigued as to how the editors, especially ed 2 can be on this site all day updating it whilst having the most knowledge of any being on the planet of every transfer rumour going round, I take it the ed 1, 2 etc or the same eds updating the Manc rumours etc?

Like, how? Do yous get paid for doing this, how many eds are there, are the eds 3, 4, 6 dedicated to other clubs rumours as you don't ever see them (or i never have) posting on here,

With regards to people trying to get ed 1 to spill his sources on Mourinho and 'whos macca', would we be right in speculating that you guys are journo's or work within football? Or are yous a collective bunch of lads who trawl the web for rumours etc?

Please reply to this cos me and mate are slightly fascinated by it {Ed001's Note - regarding Ed002, all I can say are his sources are impeccable and of the highest quality, I would kill to have access to some of the people he knows. Especially the kind of access he has! As for myself, I don't trawl the web for rumours, my work and this sites is all I have time for. I am just lucky to have family and friends that are involved in football and who are happy to discuss things with me and share what knowledge they possess. It isn't always right, unfortunately those I know are mostly on the playing side rather than involved in the management and day to day running of clubs. The situation changes so quick that players are not really the best sources of info, sometimes even when it involves their own moves.}

I can't wait to see what next years team will be. But i can't see the point in second guessing to club. They won't want people to know who they are going for and the prices will increase once news is out. traditionally Liverpool have never bought superstars. We buy them just before they become super famous or we get them as star is burning out. Thats the reason i think Benzema will never come to Liverpool. I still think teams can't defend against pace and liverpool seem to have none in attack. Maybe we should buy in some speed

Hi Eds, Just a quick question for any of you regarding David Amoo! I know he is on loan at Hull I think, I saw him in the reserves and early on in Europe and he looked quite good. Do you think he has potential to break through to the first team as I am sure one of you said he would possibly move?? After all we need a right pacy winger and he certainly has pace! {Ed001's Note - I did think he had a chance in the past, but he has not made the progress I expected and he is going to struggle to make it at Liverpool in my opinion. His final ball needs to improve massively, as do the timing of his runs and his choice of runs.}

- - - - - - - -
05 Jan 2011 15:04:41
From the man that brought you such rumours as Joe Cole to Liverpool, Michael Owen to Manchester United and Yossi Benayoun to Chelsea. .

Liverpool are signing Eden Hazard in January for £18,000,000.

I have a friend in Lille who has said the young winger is as good as gone this winter, with Arsenal and Liverpool the frontrunners. Wenger is apparently only willing to part with £13-14,000,000 and will be priced out of a move.

Trust me.

I often see people posting teams or rumours etc. and the formation they use or say we should change to is 4-3-3. i think for liverpool to play 4-3-3 would be a terrible decision, we are much better suited to a 4-4-2 or 4-2-3-1. even with new signings i think the two afore mentioned formations are better for the future of the club.
especially if you actually watch the games, you will see Suarez not staying in 1 position or part of the pitch because he is the sort of player who buzzes around terrorising defences because no1 knows who is picking him up and by the time someone does hes on another part of the pitch. Carroll can play as the lone strker role in a 4-2-3-1 and in a way if we play 4-4-2 he will play a similar role because of Suarez's constant movement.

In short i don't think, especially atm with ur lack of wingers , that Liverpool are a side that should play 4-3-3. Nor do i think it will be succesful for us in the future

Makes me laugh that people think now that spearing has had one good game in 20 that hes quality get a grip and also pacheco is not good enough, do people realise the step up from being a class youth or reserve player to being in the first team, at the moment there is no player ready for the first team you have to be tearing it up at youths like owen fowler, and the fact that one of the eds thinks that ayala will be a first team player is laughable an arctic truck can turn faster.

It was my understanding that the difficulty with Mourinho relates to him being lined up to take over from Houllier but he did not want to sign a pre contract, just a verbal agreement, which the powers that be at the time were not satisfied with. Obviously, he went on to become Chelsea manager and Benitez was offered the Liverpool position. . unless I'm wide of the mark. .?

Around half da Irish team arent Irish so dat doesn't really matter dat he was born in Scot, Ya ur right bout Coleman he does seem lik a really good player, mcgready is da most over rated player he will never be good enough, given is a class act and i would take him but hope reina dont
leave adamynwa

yeah the only thing mc geady would bring is width hence what i said before. . his final ball can be shocking. . .seem to remember him playing against brazil and was amazing. .but never lived up to his expectations. . that why it worries when i read we are linked. i do however rate coleman and the blue noses got a steal at 30 thousand for him. .i know the current crop of irish players are not all top players but they have heart and passion for their country. . wish the same could be said for england.

surely you would have seamus coleman, mc geady (width), given. .if reina wasnt there(on the cheap) doyle would be an improvement on ngog. . also he gets rave review every week. . maybe not liverpool standard thou but nor is half the squad at present. mc carthy is not from ireland either hes scottish with irish background. {Ed005's Note - The only player out of the list you mentioned would be Given. Regardless of whether Doyle is better than N'Gog or not he's not good enough for Liverpool whether it be the bench or not. And I actually think Doyle has only scored a handful more goals than N'Gog in the PL for Wolves which isn't great considering he's a regular and N'Gog isn't. McGeady isn't good enough either, he hasn't played in a decent league yet. It's ok playing against League One players every week. Seamus Coleman doesn't yet convince me. He seems like abit of a flash in the plan at the moment but perhaps if he continued his form for another year or so.}

Can i just ask all you people that want johnson to go when the last time was that he had a poor game? I mean in comparison to the rest of our squad.
I don't remember him being even close to our worst player in a single game since the king took over.
In fact he's consistently been one of our best along with kelly. He's not said ANYTHING to the press (despite being booed and jeered and played out of position - LEGEND) he's just got his head down and worked hard for his club.
Personally I think you're mad to want him to leave, and I'm struggling to not just reel off a load of insults about our fans only knowing how to bash our players.
Where's the love? This guy is part of our family, do you not remember the initial impact he had for us, or how he was the best right back around for pompey?

Glen Johnson is the last person i would want to leave. Especially now we've got Carroll the simpler of you will start to notice just how good his delivery is. . .he is EXACTLY the type of player we need at our club.

Liverpool can forget about ever luring Jose Mourinho to Anfield.

He said: "Manchester United would be a great challenge for me. But Liverpool is not the club for me. I know why, but I cannot tell you.

"Tottenham, Everton. . Arsenal maybe. These are all fine clubs with very good managers.

"You can dream of what happens in one, two, three or four years. Who knows? I cannot say, but I think you have an idea of what I think about.

jose mourinho's own words now let it go in kenny we trust we don't need any other manager

I don't think you know anything at all about why Morinho would not come to us. I am not saying I want him to come, but be fair and provide some detail if you have it or don't comment at all.

This is the last I will say on the matter, end of subject. He is not coming to manage Liverpool next season, it is common knowledge that he is not.}

{Ed001's Note - there is not a chance of Jose managing us, I have no idea why anyone would want him personally. It is quite clear why, even if none of us can voice the reasons, it is one of the worst-kept secrets in footie.}

To correct u I don't want him Ed. . more than love I have lot of respect for this club and would never want a manager who hates us nomatter how good his record is. . .

But seriously y r people so scared to tel the reason. . y r u so scare to tel the reason. . isn't this a discussion page nd arent we suppose to know it. . I think all these fans should know it so that they can stop calling Jose to be Liverpool manager. . .

now please dnt delete this post. . instead gather some guts and post it with reason y he won't manage us and y we dnt want him to manage us and put an end to discussion and calls for him once nd for all. . . . . please do it {Ed001's Note - not everything can be posted, there are lots of things we have to keep to ourselves. It is plainly obvious why he won't be coming, like I said it is a poorly kept secret. It is not about guts, it is about not being so stupid as to upset people that tell me something in confidence and leading to them never telling me anything again. Everyone knows he has made it plain he won't be managing Liverpool, what more needs be said?}

Hi Ed! U always say not a chance in hell Jose would manage Liverpool and u know the reason but won't discuss. . . .would u please like to discuss with us why u think so blatantly that he would never manage Liverpool. . Would certainly love to know ur view point. . .

I would love Ed1 to discuss this but it seems he is a shy fella. . so please Ed2, who has abundance of experience in explaining things in details and might also know Jose very well (since he supports Chelsea), can you explain us what is the situation and y he would never manage us. . . {Ed001's Note - there is not a chance of Jose managing us, I have no idea why anyone would want him personally. It is quite clear why, even if none of us can voice the reasons, it is one of the worst-kept secrets in footie.}

I heard that Hulk is a liverpool target for the summer. Ed what do you make of this?

Murphy {Ed001's Note - good player, would make a scary front 3 with Suarez and Carroll.}

I would hope they were watching freddy guarin, what would you think of him signing ed? {Ed001's Note - I recognise the name, Colombian isn't he? But that is the extent of my knowledge on him sorry.}

Charlie Adam to Liverpool

Liverpool would do a great bit of buissness if they manage to sign a player like Adam.

The holding midfield position needs to be filled and should be the highest priorty for Liverpool in the summer.
Wingers should be next, followed by a left back and if possible, then buy a striker.

Dani Pacheco has moved to Norwich on loan for the rest of the season, we have let him move out on loan at the start of the season. He has the ability to become a top players, but needs to be playing at a challenging level.
I hope we don't sell him, we should learn from Tottenham - they let Taarabt go cheaply to QPR, he is now running rings around everyone and linked with big clubs (inc. ourselves) after one season of regular football. Pacheco is a similar type of player.
Norwich try to play football and he should fit in well, considering they have injuries up front. Hopefully this will be the making of him, much like Spearing at Leicester last season.

Well it seems this morning we've got another round of rumours, this time linking us with Gary Cahill of Bolton, aswell as Adam, Young and Jarvis. Whilst many would say these players aren't good enough, I would like to see at least two of these join us, adding to the British contigent, which I believe is important. Cahill is a strong defender and we could do worse, dependent on price of course. Jarvis has also been very good lately. Not sure about prices but I would expect all of those players to be less than around £18m each.
Thanks, Rush

My dad is friends with Paul Merson, and Paul said he was at a charity event with a referee Atkinson can't think of his first name I think it's Martin? Atkinson is good friends with the special one (Mourinho) and he is meant to of said that he would like to join Liverpool. I don't know if it's true, but I personally wouldn't like him, whilst it would be a great 2/ 3 years he's not one to stay for a long time is he.

What are your thoughts ed. {Ed001's Note - not a chance in hell.}
Hasn't he said in one of his books that he carnt join Liverpool, he would like to but there is a reason why he carnt join, but carnt say at this time but will tell in yrs to come what and why he couldn't manage LFC? anyway although I'd have welcomed him last season. No chance would I wish to swap KK, for any special 1 or any other, KK WILL BRING TITLE BACK TO ANFIELD WITHIN 2 years!

Reina

Johnson, Carra/ Ayala, Agger, Baines

Griezmann, Lucas, Sissoko, Dzsudzsk

Suarez, Benzema

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Right,

- Baines won't come. End of.
- Griezmann is worse than Maxi. I have seen him a few times and definitely not good enough for LFC
- Benzema will demand extortionate wages, why not give 35 million pounds worth of northern beef a chance.
- Momo Sissoko making a return? ;)

Re: comical mate. . they banned using "hods" almost 20 years or so, sadly it looks like your talking out of your arsene

I'm not saying the original poster does work on a building site with Baines Snr. However a quick google search will find loads of job vacancies in the UK for hod carriers. So maybe that is Mr Baines job after all.

Pacheco on loan to norwich is a good move for, hes gonna get some first team football, it'll do wonders for the lad, maybe continue it in the prem nxt season if they get promoted

what dya reckon ed? {Ed002's Note - I expect him to leave in the summer.}

if he leaves in the summer i can see it coming back to bite us in the apse in the future, he could become class

One thing I would like to say is whoever we sign in the summer we must be quick and efficient in getting the deal done rather than beating around the bush till the end of the season(which we usually do). A full pre season under KK and steve clarke can work wonders for our squad and spur any newcomers to give their all for the red shirt. One thing more, I would be really happy if Sami Hyppia returns to us in a coaching role. He was our best defender through the last decade IMO and the likes of ayala, wilson and wisdom will benefit immensely if it happens.

Rumours that Juve is interested in Glenn Johnson. Do you think he'll leave? He's been improving and seems to be enjoying his football under KD - SingRed

After the dealings with Juventus over Alberto Aquilani I seriously doubt Liverpool would want to deal with Juventus over any player.

Hey ed is their any interest in steven defour? {Ed002's Note - There has been interest from Arsenal and Liverpool, but particularly from Manchester United. His agent said before Christmas that he would likely move to England this summer. I have always thought it would be Manchester United who would get the player, but I am not so sure now. Certainly he seems to be up for grabs.}

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Ed, how good is he?

Will he be a Fellaini or a Jovanovich?
They seem to rate Lukaku so highly but I have seen him in some Europa League games and he is not quite upto the mark. . . .

Lukaku is being rated at 20 million plus (pounds) and Erikssen(from Ajax) is being rated at 13 million plus. Anderlecht played Ajax in the last round of Europa league and Lukaku went missing in both the legs and Anderlecht got a thrashing in that tie.

So the question again should be - Is Defour good enough for the EPL? . .

Also he is no longer the first choice for his country. . .

{Ed002's Note - Defour is certainly good enough for the EPL but has suffered injuries over the past 18 months. Lukaku is over-valued meaning that many of the interested parties would walk away. Eriksen will not be moving to England in the near future.}

Hi all . im currently working on a building site with the father of leighton baines who is also a liverpool fan. he wears everton training clothes to work as he says he would rather get them dirty than his beloved liverpool ones.when asked if leighton would ever move to the reds he said he would walk there tomorrow.his father is a hod carrier and a fine fellow aswell. i have no reason to lie or make up rubbish just for your entertainment but this is 100% true. and he said leighton is exited about the speculation about a move to liverpool but doesn't think moyes would allow it but also says he won't be there next year that's moyes won't be there

comical mate. . they banned using "hods" almost 20 years or so, sadly it looks like your talking out of your arsene

you can't use " hods " anymore on big sites but on little residential ones they're used all the time, don't get mt wrong mate i think hes talkin thru his " arsene " aswel jus thought id correct ya

* 17. Maxi Rodr guez
* 24. Ngog

* 28. Poulsen
* - Aquilani
* - Degen

Could all these players be leaving in the summer. {Ed005's Note - There is a chance all of the above could leave in my opinion, apart from Agger as I think he'll stay. Obviously some more than others.}

Thanks ed j mccarthy looks like he would be great in future from Ireland and he would be da only one out of Irish side dat id like at pool, ya ur right bout Moses he looked good at cp but from wat i see he doesn't get alot of game tme at wigan can't believe barca looked at him! Adamynwa

surely you would have seamus coleman, mc geady (width), given. .if reina wasnt there(on the cheap) doyle would be an improvement on ngog. . also he gets rave review every week. . maybe not liverpool standard thou but nor is half the squad at present. mc carthy is not from ireland either hes scottish with irish background. {Ed005's Note - The only player out of the list you mentioned would be Given. Regardless of whether Doyle is better than N'Gog or not he's not good enough for Liverpool whether it be the bench or not. And I actually think Doyle has only scored a handful more goals than N'Gog in the PL for Wolves which isn't great considering he's a regular and N'Gog isn't. McGeady isn't good enough either, he hasn't played in a decent league yet. It's ok playing against League One players every week. Seamus Coleman doesn't yet convince me. He seems like abit of a flash in the plan at the moment but perhaps if he continued his form for another year or so.}

Hey ed, just have a question about Jovanovic, if I remember correctly we got him on a free right? How much wages do we pay him?(does the wages go high when we acquire a player on free?) thanks ed, great job keep it up! =)

FilipinoRED
You'll never walk alone {Ed005's Note - I am unsure but I heard the figure was £50,000 per week on top of bonuses. And when a player is a free agent they will usually want a higher wage.}

Ed - as to concerns about senior players with too much power - does the combination of Dalglish & Comolli on transfers mean those same players can no longer exert influence over management decisions, which was rampant during Rafa's years? - SingRed {Ed005's Note - I would imagine so. Hi eds, 1st timer love the site and cheers for the patience. I know you get a lot of repeat questions!

I know of most rumours that are flying around concerning who could be joining us in the summer. I would just like to know if you have any info on which of the deadwood in the squad who'll be leaving?

Cheers eds!

Dan from Derry {Ed005's Note - I'd expect the obvious ones to leave such as Poulsen, Jovanovic, Kyrgiakos, Konchesky, Insua, N'Gog and possibly Maxi, J.Cole.}
