Will Lucas get a medal should we win on Sunday?

Jack the Groove

No, I don't think so. I think it's for the players in the squad on the day and 5 or so for coaches etc.

Anyone who plays in the competition get a medal.

BthekingB

Lucas will get a medal, he has played in three of the games.

dmedly

Liverpool can ask the fa for extra medals, for special cases such as injured players,etc,therefore I expect Liverpool will get one for Lucas,he deserves one.

Let's win it 1st!
Kp

Lucas wont get a medal but the Cardiff boys sure will ; )

Gav {Ed001's Note - you know the runners up get medals too right?}

How about (after Kenny eventually goes) Vladmir Smicer for the LFC job? I absolutely love the guy, he's a great bloke and obviously one of the heroes of instanbul and i think hed be a decent manager? THOUGHTS?

Jamie C or a proven Manager.

BthekingB

Is he even a manager? Or is this just a totally tendon name pulled from a hat? What about Dudek for manager? Or Baros as player manager maybe? I apologise for my sarcasm if unbeknown to me old Vladimir is managing in Europe somewhere setting their league on fire. If, however, you are hoping he becomes manager based on the fact he seems like a stand up kinda guy, then my sarcasm is probably lost on you anyway. Nick.

Meant to say random, not tendon. Best check my spelling before I dis someone again! Nick.

I thought the boot room was back ie Rodolfo Borrell

Achilles is totally a tendon name

cozinoz

Isn't Smicer at Sparta Praha as one of the coaches?

To the original poster : We know it's you Vladi !!

Hamann or Hyypia anyone? if not manager assistant at least?. Hyypia and his positioning skills we would be dangerous.

Hello Edds. I am trying to figure out the transfer relationship between Daglish and Comolli. And my research tells me that comolli handpicks a few scouted players in a preferred position, and then presents them to Daglish who have the final pick. Am I right? Can you plesae explain this to me? Sorry for my bad english, I'm from Norway.

Kind regards {Ed001's Note - pretty much.}

Not being funny ed but couldnt anyone do comolli's job {Ed001's Note - no, not do it right anyway. If it was that easy every club would have someone doing what he does and unearthing future stars. That is if you think he is doing well.}

Ed / fellow fans i know we need a winger but my knowledge of players from other teams is limited so who do you think would fit into Lfc's style of play i saw that a few people stating that we liked Matt Phillips is he good?...Personally i would like someone who plays like Suarez/Lavezzi

MJ {Ed001's Note - I like Phillips, he is very quick and can cross and pass, he is also versatile, Holloway has played him everywhere but goalkeeper pretty much. I would take him for us all day.}

Ed001 have a question that wasnt answered the other day, i would like ur opinion, is ian holloway a good coach? i mean i know hes a manager but is he a good coach? for example, he played shelvey in different positions, now matt philips (i mean i dont really know about him so thats why im asking)

Kaizer {Ed001's Note - not a good coach, not in my opinion, his coaching is amateurish at best. Most of the players at Blackpool go and do fitness training etc after training with the club, for instance.}

Not so much to do with Liverpool ... I am a Liverpool fan and going to Wembley on Sunday, but i also support my local non league team Marine FC located in Crosby. Marine are playing FC United of Manchester tomorrow afternoon at 3pm at home, its a big promotion game for both clubs, and has been quite tastey the past few years.
Just wanted to post this on here and hope some of you may decide to come down and watch Marine Vs FCUM since the derby is off and Liverpool play on Sunday, then its a good chance to watch a really good game of football on your Saturday afternoon, we are only a small club in the Northern Prem so any support would be great!
Thanks all!

The abreviation of your opposition was quite amusing small things please small minds lol

Idk colour clash lol

Moves that I like and I also think are possible for the summer window:

Ins: Isla, Matt Phillips, Luuk de Jong, Gaston Ramirez

Outs: Glen Johnson, Kuyt, Maxi, Aqua, Cole, Pachecho etc..

I think these transfer are feasible in terms of money and in that the players are attainable targets whether or not we have Champs league. They are also young players who are not guaranteed to walk into the starting XI right away. This allows for some continuity with our current squad while the new additions adjust to life at Liverpool.

These players really help to add width and pace to our team, while also adding creativity.

Adding 4 players in one window makes for a pretty busy window, but seeing as how we didn't do anything in January, I think it is still reasonable. It will also require some financial backing from the owners, but since these players are not necessarily "world class" yet, it would not be a crazy amount of net spend.

Even if isla isn't signed among these, I'd be very happy. They can be great buys for us. YNWA

I think this guy has read the player profile page the eds have created and included all the players as ones he wants to sign lol

Danny

Sounds great to me. I would expect all 4 to cost £45 - £50 million, outgoings to regain around £25 or there abouts. The wage bill to stay similar or come down a little too.

I think those signings add something we're severely lacking. Pace, technical ability and confidence. Players like Maxi and Kuyt are solid reliable performers, if a little limited and slow. Matt Philips is all pace and drive, which we severely lack. Isla adopts control, calm and intelligence as a flexible defender/midfielder. De Jong brings that elusive goal scoring touch and Ramirez brings vision and skill (something our squad lacks without Suarez.

A line up of

Reina

Isla - Skrtel - Agger - Enrique

Philips - Lucas - Gerrard - Bellamy/Downing

Suarez/Ramirez

Carroll/De Jong

Looks great to me. The only other position we may be lacking is some steal in midfield, I like Spearing but he's not up to Lucas's standard and as City/Rafa's old style sometimes you need two quality holding midfielders.

Papa G

Exactly what I want and what we need. All these players are feasible with/without CL. These players will take us to next level and hopefully in 1-2 years with everyone settled and realizing their potential with the likes of Jordan and Andy and also the new summer signings since they are also very young we would be one hell of a team. But need to make sure everyone of those mentioned there as their roles are very important and cannot be wasted.

A penny for Torres' thoughts this weekend, with the reds in a cup final, and hopefully picking up the trophy, also he's been dropped from the Spain squad, ' I've joined a bigger club to win trophys', we're his words, where did it all go wrong Nando?

I love it when loyalty and humility kick the butts of greed and dishonour

Even better if we can get Chelsea in the FA cup semis and knock them out!
SingRed

When I see Torres looking like a little boy lost in a shop,I start to feel sorry for him, but those feelings are replaced with anger and hatred when I recall the breaking news flashing across the bottom of the sky sports news page,'Torres hands in transfer request', it will hurt him like hell watching us pick up the trophy tomorrow( fingers crossed).

Yeah, especially if Rafa is their manager then, as widely predicted, oh the chavs and roman will Love rafas negative football, lol

Hello Eds & Macca!

What is the clubs opinion on Adam Morgan, two important goals today, and young Sterling? Two for next season?

Also, just a big shout to the whole club, fans and LFC friends - lets enjoy Sunday and lets kick start the final 3rd of our season! YNWA

Robby-Red {Ed002's Note - My understanding is that Morgan has not had the best of seasons so far. Sterling may get a cameo or two next season. He will still be too young to loan before next January.}

Suso for me, heard silva is doing well for northamptin

Does anyone know roughly what time the team coach will get to Wembley on Sunday? Seen videos from past few years of cup finals with all the fans cheering in the team and it looks like that generates a class atmosphere so would love to be there when it gets to Wembley, any info would be great! Cheers all!

15:59, it makes for more interesting viewing.

Not a rumour,just a piece of advice for anybody travelling to wembley for the first time on sunday.Avoid the lager from the pumps,it is the worst ive ever tasted.Went for rugby league there in november and everybody was having a mouthful then chucking it in the bin!If u want lager inside stadium,stick to bottled stuff

It is all still expensive tho :o(

All lager tastes like that mate, be a man and drink some ale.

For those wondering what happened to Nacho - he made his debut today as a substitute against Everton U18 after injury.
Dutchmal

Nacho?- teixeira?

Did he chip it over the goalkeeper, or was it a crisp finish. Or is he suffering from a dip in form?

Rafa's Purple Goatie

Nacho came with Bueno on trial in August. They scored NINE goals between them in two matches. Nacho signed straight away but has apparently been injured. Bueno should be joining the club in April after his 18th birthday.

I was just in Liverpool shopping where i met Torres in Primark. He was buying some t shirts for his summer holidays as he now has June free in his diary

24 Feb 2012 14:12:58
Don't underestimate Cardiff. They are a decent side if given the chance. Our players need to have the right attitude (not like against Bolton). These games can often turn out not how we want. Remember the FA Cup 1988 0-1 to Wimbledon.

The football world are getting ready to laugh at us if we mess this one up.

Thanks Kenny

We certainly should not underestimate them. They're probably about as good as Wigan, in other words the sort of team we've struggled to break down this year. Kenny Miller is still a tricky customer on his day, but I think the danger man is Whittingham - very sweet left foot and plenty of vision. Still think we'll win though. -SH-

We are the football world?

I hope Liverpool sign Christian Eriksen & Thomas Muller in the summer [if we qualify for UCL) or at least one of them. [if we don't qualify for UCL] Surely we need one more big money (25-35M) quality signing. They can be good replacements for Maxi and Dirk Kuyt.

Eriksen says he would prefer Spain, but Barca & Real are the only sides with caliber of his quality that he might join but why join them, both clubs have enough quality young players who play in his position and been a bench warmer at these clubs won't be his preferred choice. The I heard AC Milan might be his second choice but I Think if we push hard for this lad we definitely have a chance of getting him. Dagger and Suarez can tell him about Liverpool FC. He should be willing to join them.

On Muller, he is a very versatile attacker in the mold of Kuyt, there is no doubt about his quality and for me he is the exact replacement we need for Kuyt. I know snatching him away from Bayern won't be easy but as far as i Understand things are not going well for him at Bayern now a days. If he is for sale there will be strong competition but if we have the guts of the big guns then we should also show it in the transfer market.

I know we won't be signing Messi's, Ronaldos and Neymar's. But come on there are quality players around for reasonable prices that Liverpool will no doubt can lay their hand on. We need to sign these players of quality with reasonable prices and that's our philosophy. Summer might be a long way off but the job is still not done we still lack some quality that we need to reach the next level.

Thank You FSG
Thank You Mr. Henry

Marching on with King Kennys Red Army!
Walk on to Wembely! YNWA!

Gloryyyyyyyyyyyyyyy to Liverpool FC

I honestly dont think eriksen would sign?, he has already turned down the advances of both man city and chelsea! he is a tottenham fan, despite what fans think, he expressed a dream to one day play for the london club! so if he were availiable? im sure, if they came to the table there would only be one winner! muller on the other hand is, i think a good shout! i think carroll needs time? he was at a team that played to his strengths!! and is now at a team that doesn't, the lad simply needs to adapt, touch and off the ball movement? {Ed002's Note - Eriksen turned down Chelsea because they twice rejected him following trials.}

Please go away Spurs fan and take your made up Eriksen quotes with you.

Martin

Why would he support Spurs they have done bugger all since they were created

MJ

Actually im a red fan married to a spurs fan martin!! & yes erikson is a spurs fan & yes ed I did know that sorry for not mentioning the fact.

Its funny that spurs think that they can beat anyone. they get destroyed by man city at home, battered 5-0 aggregate by real madrid, humiliated by fulham 4-0 last year in the fa cup and still they talk crap. who is going to replace redknapp when he goes?. tim sherwood?. lol. hopefully we win the carling cup on sunday. just hope kenny doesn't start the wrong players.

"Its funny that spurs think that they can beat anyone. they get destroyed by man city at home, battered 5-0 aggregate by real madrid, humiliated by fulham 4-0 last year in the fa cup and still they talk crap"

Im pretty sure Spurs beat Liverpool 4-0 at the start of the season?

Hey Eds

Just a quick question about Jordon Ibe. When we signed him surely it would have been better to leave him at wycombe for the rest of the season as he was getting regular gamesfor the 1st team

Thanks

Marc {Ed002's Note - Possibly but that was not the decision taken. He still needs to attend school and that is the priority.}

24 Feb 2012 13:52:28
Good afternoon Ed

Which player out of Silva, Sterling and Iibe will
be the first to play in the premiership do you think? {Ed002's Note - No idea.}

Silva, for me. he is better physically atm and also a very good player. So, I think Silva can get a chance first but can't say, it may be Sterling, too. YNWA

24 Feb 2012 13:25:11
think we should go after dusan tadic,looks a quality winger that we so desperately need

24 Feb 2012 13:25:07
Just a quick question eds.
Do you think KK is man to help Torres rediscover his game. I for one think we should buy him back on the cheap !! People do make mistakes. Great website. {Ed002's Note - Try the search function - the obsession with and return of Torres is dealt with at length.}

24 Feb 2012 13:21:05
Ed Torres dropped from Spain squad and liverpool in a cup final a wembley. Oh it puts a smile on my face. What about you ed? {Ed002's Note - I don't know why you would think I would care. I have already wished Liverpool well for the final as circumstances dictate I need to be doing something else and cannot attend.}

Why revel in another man's misfortunes? Torres was awesome for us, and we all loved him. He left. Remember the good times. Smiling at his demise is not the Liverpool way.

Totally agree.Gave us great times,sad how things have turned out for him.

Derek

Oh grow up, the mans a selfish tw*t who left us when things were starting to look up. Transfer request and spitting his dummy out with 48 hrs of the transfer window left, getting Ballague and his friends to do his dirty work for him, don't waste your sympathy on the gobs**te. Remember the big club jibes as well after he signed for Chelsea. See the reception he gets when he returns to Anfield, the man lost all respect with the manner which he left.

David

Hi Eds and all. Quick question (tried the search function so sorry if this has been asked) if we beat Cardiff on Sunday does that qualify us for the europa league? Sure it worked that way for Birmingham last year. Personally think that europa league next year would be better than nothing as lets face it, we arent going to get 4th. Cheers. {Ed002's Note - Yes.}

Why not? Arsenal an chelsea are playing worse than us at the moment and both have to come to anfield. We also have the easier remaining games on paper. I would of thaught we would be favourites for 4th place. This is providing Newcastle dont continue suprising everyone and pull off the shock of the season

Wavertree red

Why is fourth impossible!!!!!!!
Last time I checked we are just over halfway through and only 4 points behind! Not to mention our form has picked up unlike our other competitors.

At this stage I wouldn't say Tottenham are secure at 3rd, a few losses and that lead slips away

Thing is you're banking on all 3 teams dropping more points than you. Sure it's not a big points difference - but still it's hard to see all 3 teams dropping the necessary points for Pool to finish 4th

Gav

Since both the Carling cup and the FA cup will grant a place in the europe league, what would then happen if Liverpool were to win them both?

A slot in the europe league would be available, but who would get it? {Ed002's Note - It would go to (a) the FA Cup runners up, or if they had already qualified, (b) 6th place in the league.}

(b) 6th place in the league.}

========================
Or to 7th place , for most of us who are confident Liverpool will finish in the top 6.

Roy

Just out of curiosity then Ed, if we were to get the 4th place spot and win both the cups, would both the runners up get the spot?

RenegadeRed {Ed002's Note - No. The runner up in the FA cup if they have not already qualified for Europe, plus 6th in the league. If the runners up have qualified, then 6th and 7th in the league.}

If we win both our reserves will get the other place : )

Hey Eds

I was just wondering what your thoughts were on Toni Silva being on loan at Northampton and just how much he can learn being in League 2

Thanks

Marc {Ed001's Note - personally I think he is better than that, but we didn't have League 1 teams after him, the lad needed some first team football. It is a good chance to build confidence and allow him to experience the physical difference in playing in a truly competitive league. One where it actually really matters, unlike reserve and youth football, which is not full blooded.}

Thanks for the reply Ed

Marc

Hoping to get down to a game or two to watch this lad play as i live near northampton now and i heard tickets are going for like 4 quid what with them looking likely to be dropped out of the football league this season.
hope they can cling on, will be a shame to see them go, even if they did subject me to one of my lowest anfield moments.

hey ed just a quick question.. if liverpool win the carling cup are they guaranteed europa league? because it doesnt look like with the likes of downing,henderson,adam we will be even competing for the top four. {Ed002's Note - Yes, there is a Europa League place for the winners.}

I actually think we can make it. i mean top four.

Why shouldn't we? Every Liverpool fan should think we can get the position, I see no reason why not with Arsenal and Chelsea slumping.

Pearce is clueless, not selecting big andy for England. YNWA Big Andy

Red Pea

Forget about him not picking Andy he is just clueless .
Red raj

The main reason behind Stuart Pearce leaving out Andy Carroll is the little fact that he is absolutely fooobah !

Much Love

And he picks FRAZER CAMPBELL. 17 months out, 2 goals in 5 games.

RenegadeRed

What about picking Martin Kelly and Jay Spearing?

Frankly I'd rather all the above mentioned players remain fit for the rest of the season then be used in friendlies. I'm not an England hater by any means just I get a little more more club before country every time i see England play!

PDUK

Foobaah?? You mean Fubar surely??

Why r u disappointed carrol has not been picked? he gets a weeks rest, same goes with kelly. Honestly speaking, spearing will never get a cap for england. he simply isnt good enough

It's England we do not care.

I hope all the Cleverly's , Bad Hair Jones, Bale, F Campbell etc etc all clear off and play Euro's and Olympics etc etc - I care for neither tournament because I am not a not a shaven headed triple ripple necked ear ring wearing cockney.

Is there anyone selling carling cup tickets for sunday?

All this talk about Not playing Bellamy due to him being a Cardiff boy and all, did we not play Henderson against Sunderland in his first game, and Carroll played toon twice...

If kenny wants him he will play.
G BOX

Bellamy will start he is the main reason we are in the final and earned deserves his chance.

Craig is truly professional and would die for Liverpool on the pitch. Any supporters who question this are idiots. Kenny has the upmost respect for Craig and Craig loves the club. End of

Took a chance last night when the mancs were winning 1-0 and struck a bet with William Hills at 50/1 for Ajax to come from behind and win in 90 minutes! at last Jackpot! there's no better way of winnnig a few bob :) manutd stood out as being physically stronger than Ajax but Ajax stood out as being more skilful and the mancs historically don't do well against skilful sides, their much better at playing the "Flat Track Bully" against the likes of Stoke :)

Reds,
Please have a watch of Dave Kirby's lovely litttle poem "In the footsteps of our Fathers" on LFCtv or Youtube.
It's five minutes of football pleasure and memories, especially for us older Redmen.
If you're lucky enough to be going on Sunday, let's all do the memories proud and have a laugh, banter, and a right good sing song.
Please God that we see Kenny with the cup on Sunday evening.

if we could get them who would be a better signing llorente or soldado?
cheers,

Why would we want llorenty when we have AC?

I would go with soldado due to the fact he could play with carroll or saurez if we didnt have carroll maybe lorente but overall i think soldado brings a bit more to the table

I know Downing played ok last week but I really do hope Kuyt plays on Sunday as reward for his loyalty and hard work and he's also a lot more likely to find the net or assist than Downing. Kuyt has started to look in good form lately as well. So Kenny please give Kuyt the nod; one thing for sure he won't let us down unlike Downing who could play well but just as easily be awful.
Who would you play Downing or Kuyt
Agree to play Kuyt......Disagree to play Downing
kidmillions

Start with Downing but bring Kurt on as a sub.
TIZER RED

Personally neither would get my team for Sunday but if I had to pick, then I would pick Downing - McMenemy

Downing all day for me mate. Dont rate kuyt at all. Headless chicken springs to mind.

Has to be kuyt, at least he has heart. But Downing is still suffering from a 'culture shock' after joining us and doubling his salary, not enough ivory back scratchers?

dave spain

I am pretty sure that Downing took a pay cut when he joined Liverpool, but don't let that alter your preconceived thoughts about him.

JRG

Doubling his Salary?
I do seem to recall reading somewhere that Downing had actually taken a small pay cut to be with Liverpool. Anyone know if that's right?
RedOz

All the replied to this and not one person has said they play on opposite sides of the pitch....

Bellers instead of Kuyt.. Downing on the left.. Job done...
Come on the reds!!!!!

I actually think we might see Bellamy on left and Downing on right.

Gotta hope for a 0-0 draw Spurs v Arsenal with a few suspensions and Gareth Bale sent off for constant simulation.

cozinoz

A win for spurs, would suit us better.
kidmillions

Why would we hope for a draw? surely thinking rationally that unless catastrophe strikes Spurs should finish 3rd in the league so we should want them to beat every team that we are battling for 4th place, which includes the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea & Newcastle.

LFC4LIFE

Personally I hope they both lose -McMenemy

Spurs r already guaranteed 3rd place. They r too good a team to self destruct. Lets hope they kick arsenal real bad, so the gunners wud be really low on confidence when they cum to anfield.

If Liverpool manage to win against Cardiff on Sunday, will there be a parading of the cup on Monday, and if so what time .

Very Unlikely....
1. Usually parading is done at the end of the season
2. Usually only for most important competitions or multiple trophy's if open top bus, otherwise might bring it out at next home game
3. Most players have internationals mid week so have to report directly after the game on Sunday.

Richards

I thought it could be a nice gesture for us to parade bus to stop by old trafford to flash the mancs a bit of silver, since they won't win any this season.

Good point: perhaps the game should of been played on Saturday. Winners can then parade through the City on Sunday.
kidmillions

There's neve been a victory parade for a League Cup as far as I can remember. And there's no reason to start now.
The Real KB

Got to agree with you there the real kb maybe if we was to get the fa cup as well a parade with both on show but not for the league cup on its own

Yossi Benayoun now said in an interview that he hopes and thinks to move next year to a mid-table team because he wants playing time. playing for two three years and then to retire

just sharing something here, from where i am our football talks (before , after a game) are done by some old players, foreign 1, and here we've never heard of most of them. but they have records like played for manchester city and stuff. yossi is the kind of guy that can be this guy, he'll have in his CV played for liverpool, chelsea, arsenal. and people who werent born yet (after 15-20 years) who watches him in the talkshow and sees his CV will go "wow he must be some player to play for all these clubs"

Good luck to Yossi wherever he goes - a great player who was a shining light for Liverpool at the end of the H&G era.

Then he can go back to Liverpool so

Yossi is actually a very good footballer and his situation of not getting enough playing time only serves to highlight some of the problems in the English game. Clubs would much rather have physical presence workrate endeavour etc over skill. Yossi should of gone abroad to play where he would of been better appreciated.

Yossi's never been the most consistently skilful player, he used to mess up as often as beat someone. Always capable of a great trick or goal but never produced consistently enough in his career. The english game has plenty of skilful players who are picked over more physical alternatives: Modric, Mata, Giggs, Silva and the entire Arsenal team to name but a few. Saying that the english game values physicality over skill is a tired cliche that simply no longer holds water in a game where referees punish the most innocuous of challenges and smaller teams like Swansea, Norwich and Wigan consistently play a pass and move style rather than relying on physicality

Eriksen - 25million
Marin - 13milliom
Nordfeldt - 1million
De Jong - 12million

Nordfield is a free agent... Good FM targets though, although paying too much for erikson would be 12 tops.

£12 Million for Eriksen? dream on.

more like £25-35 million.

Tom.

I would actually say 20M max for erikson, also nordfeldt is a free agent as said above.

Won't get eriksson & not sure about marin? Cracking player but does he suit the way lfc play?

Eriksen would not go for 12 . triple that and it would me a more accurate figure
nzl_red

No way will Eriksen go for anything less than 25M, your valuation is . . . not in the ball park

Marin didnt even get in the top 50 players in the bundesliga voted on by ex professionals and were all clamouring for him how many people have actually seen him play iv seen him twice once he was great the other time the worst player on the pitch he could be awesome then again a few bad games and half of you would be slating him and demanding kenny,s head

On his day, marin is superb. but his inconsistency lets him down most of the times, a bit like crybaby nani.
