2 matches, 2 clean sheets, 2 wins.

Can't say fairer than that. Well done Brendan and the lads.

We didn't play perfectly, but last season we had loads of games we dominated and came away with 0-1 points.

We have 100% record and we aren't even peaking.

Peak after Christmas, stay in the race until then- perfect.

Happy with 3 points but not impressed by the performance.

We've lined our squad with B rate players who make little or no impact, the likes of Allen, Assaidi, Alberto and Borini. I hope we correct the mistake now.

Sell Suarez to Madrid and sign Ayew, Konoplyanka, Kundogbia, Sakho and Yilmaz. Turan is too expensive at 20m.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We have 6 points out of two games. The team was trying to collect maximum points. they weren't running around to impress YOU.

Agree0 Disagree0

We were losing games like this last season, I couldn't care how many 1-0 wins we do and play poor in the win will do me

Agree0 Disagree0

For gods sake. alberto hasn't even made his debut. you're a bad fan!

Agree0 Disagree0

Bit hypocritcal.
You say we line squad with B rate players, so you want us to sell out A* Suarez to fund a bunch of cheaper B rate players in comparison. and an A rate player Turan should not be signed as he is too expensive. You cannot always get A rate players dead cheap. We need to keep suarez and build on what we have. Get behind the players don't slate them.

Agree0 Disagree0

How many minutes in total have the players you have mentioned got this year?

And if you believe that so many transfers in are either healthy or realistic, you may want to have a rethink?

Andy K

Agree0 Disagree0

Take away the word "happy" and read your text again.
The likes of Assaidi, Alberto and Borini have not yet featured this season. We have 6 points from a possible six, have not conceded a goal and faced two teams that battered us (literally) last year. If you cared to look at the end of last season you'd see we are on a very decent run.
And you just listed a 100 million worth of players who aren't proven performers (except maybe Yilmaz). Come on man!

Agree0 Disagree0

Sure, we weren't impressive, in the end, but we bossed the first half in a way that hasn't been seen for a long time. According to the stats, we completed more passes in the first half than 17 out the 19 other clubs had managed in an entire game this season.
We won a difficult game away from home against a side who were soaring with confidence after two good away performances against 2 of last season's top 4.

Agree0 Disagree0

He is a blue nose winding you up mates, an LFC fan with knowledge wouldn't say half of that and be serious!

Agree0 Disagree0

I just have to add £20 million for Arda would not be too much at all. If he cost that all in then I wish we would grab him with both hands, squeeze him into a bag and smuggle him overseas to us on the quiet

Agree0 Disagree0

Three of the four players you mention are 23 or younger and yet to even come near to reaching their peak, two of them were injured for large swathes of last seasons, one has made little or no appearances for us and the other has yet to even feature in a competitive match.

Do people on this website not learn lessons? Lucas not good enough, Gerrard can't adapt, Suarez won't score goals, Sturridge is too lazy - both Henderson and Downing (too an extent) started to prove a point.

I honestly expect some 'persons' have burnt their hands in a fire and then proceed to burn their other hand to check if it would still happen

Agree0 Disagree0

Good win, professional job from the team in the second half. Just want to say Simon needs to work with the ball at his feet (his shot stopping is already making a difference) and Johnson needs some competition - the lad is taking his place for granted. Aspas looked a little lost in the second half but he has shown enough to prove that he is a nifty little player, hopefully he gets a goal soon. Oh and what a beast Kolo is, top performance.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Mignolet was an outfield player. He's good with his feet. His roll out should never have come back to him.

Agree0 Disagree0

Aspas does tings that will NEVER be seen on the stat sheet. His movement and link up play is amazing and he and sturridge were running rings around the villa cb`s so much that they were seen pointing to each other because none of them knew who to mark or track. I do hope he gets a goal very soon to boost his confidence. BUT his movement and trickery is AWESOME.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Aug 2013 23:57:40
Agree with you totally about Johnson, jassi think he is an accident waiting to happen, I know he is good going forward but would prefer my right back to defend properly, I would use Kelly jir63

Agree0 Disagree0

Johnson does look like a player who takes his place for granted I think also. He can be very good but he does seem to enjoy doing dangerous things and rarely seems bothered when they fail

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Aug 2013 22:05:29
Anyone else think that Gerrard gave the ball away far to often today?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He was slack sometimes BUT was decent and very biting in the tackle.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ye very good football in the first half an hour but didn't create much.like a toothless barca, the midfielders need to start scoring now.second half we looked tired an out of ideas an sat deep an let them have the ball in there half mainly but good win, still need a bit of quality bringing in though, bring on the macs!

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Aug 2013 23:20:08
Second half lucus did . Thought stevie g was good . But toure is quality . Free transfer? Signing of the window .

I'll take any ugly, well not so ugly first 35 mins, 1 nil win all season long. Its about the 3 points

Believable0 Unbelievable0

38 1-0 wins gets us the league! But seriously happy that we played well then dug in when we needed, Benteke is going to beast a lot of defenders this year and we handled him well.
Kolo Toure, take a bow, Sturridge's goal was a beauty but Kolo was the rock of the team. Bloody good signing, the board need to trust BR he knows what he is doing.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Aug 2013 21:59:30
No mention about the blatant penalty against us at the end. If we are challenging for the top 4 then goal difference may also play a part

Believable0 Unbelievable0

As STONEWALL a penalty as you will ever see.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Aug 2013 23:30:04
except the keeper got a fingertip to the ball.

Agree0 Disagree0

Did he get fingertips to ball?
I never saw that, will have to look again. Must admit I thought it was a penalty but was refreshing to see DS get up without making too much fuss about it

Agree0 Disagree0

I know! Clearly a penalty - was screaming at the TV, though that might have had something to do with the fact I had £20 quid on the next goal being via a penalty at 12/1 via in play on my mobile! Pure raging lol

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Aug 2013 21:50:32
Good display today, I must admit I did have that foreboding feeling at 1.0 up when the pressure was on us. But we ground out the win, we still need a couple of bodies in the building the squad is thin in terms of numbers but the quality is better than this time last year.

I think other teams will figure us out, they will try to absorb the early on slaught, then pressure us. We need to take full advantage of the early pressure we put on, this is what was lacking last season and I hope its something we improve on this year. Time will tell.

Expectations for this season is to compete for 4th better than last year, but to finish 5th/6th. But here's hoping for 4th. BR is doing the best with what he's got. All the best and YNWA.

KNEE JERK

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Its a pyschological thing and BR has to sort it out.
1) What do we do when a team equalizes against us?
2) What do we do when the other team scores first?
3) What do we do when we score first and need to close out the game?

BR has to find a way to address those three issues.

Agree0 Disagree0

Seems to be a fair bit of people not too happy with the way we played today,
We won again, villa alteady beat arsenal and if had been given the correct calls against Chelsea, they would've beat them too.
First half we controlled for all bar 5 minutes, villa had to come out stronger in second half, but we ground them out, apart from a couple good saves from our new no 1 they didn't really threaten us.
Lucas looked solid, Sturbridge what a goal, toure and agger looked solid, debut for our new left back, out of position but boy has he got speed and strength, we looking very good, 6 out of 6, first time in how long?
Sit back relax and watch our team keep growing

Lifelongred

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Some will complain REGARDLESS of what we do so best ignore the moaners and continue to get behind the team.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Aug 2013 21:40:36
How can people slag Lucas off after today's performance! He was immense! Think you need to watch the game again and see how many times he broke down the villa attack! My man of the match goes to Toure! Beast is all I can say! Sturbridge close second though work rate and getting back to assist at right back like Stevie G in the european cup final! Quality win now on to notts county!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Lucas played good but I could count about 10 times when he just didn't move the ball quick enough and got tackled from behind, and being a defensive midfielder he lost the ball in lfc's half which doesn't help ease the pressure.

"I'm a Lucas fanatic BTW" his concentration was just a little off today. also why is it that we are the worst team at heading? we always seem to find the opposition.

AND it's nice to know that with few shots at goal or on target we can win because our defence is pretty solid. anyway think of it like this we are playing without 3 starting 11 players; natural LW, RF (suarez) and CB(although kolo is bossing it!).

Agree0 Disagree0

Lucas did his job well. He lost a few balls. SO WHAT? He was immense again and will no other DM does his job the way BR likes it to be done. Good job, LL!

Agree0 Disagree0

Not really. Remember if the opposing team runs at you and close you down energetically, your play will wobble.

This Villa team nearly beat Chelsea. That should put everything in perspective for you. We are not chasing Chelsea btw (yet). For the mean time, we want to displace Arsenal in the top 4. And we just got a better result against villa.

24 Aug 2013 21:37:36
Great win! Brilliant tactics I personally would ov liked to see Alberto coming on for aspas for a bit ov a run out nothing against aspas in the slightest he put in a real shift but Alberto ain't had a run out yet and cissoko I would ov brought on for Lucas the lad looked knackered towards the end! Every lad played really well today and the way Brendan set the team up was a real positive stick with a winning team and there really starting to gel together the first half was different class! I'd take another 1-0 next weekend or a draw but the same level of performance as today! I'm a very happy Liverpool fan tonight and hopeful for our season ahead.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He will get a run out against notts county on Tuesday.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Aug 2013 21:36:49
We defo need something else up top againts utd. There's no way we can beat them back for 45mins like today, ayew or turan someone with that extra bit of class to get us 2-0 up! Then we can beat them back! Pumped up for that 1 come on boys!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

No two games are ever the same. We played really well for 125 mins out of 180 mins against United last season and got zero points. Therefore even 1 at home is progress. The first two games of the season have shown we can win playing well and okey ish. That'll do for me. I goal in 25 attempts v Stoke, people fretting about conversion rates. 1 goal, 1 shot on target at Villa and people worry we haven't created much. United fans don't worry when they collect 3 pts and move on and neither should we.

Agree0 Disagree0

We have 6 out of 6 so I`m good. We`ll cross that bridge when we get there.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Aug 2013 23:33:07
Still not sure what sort of United we'll be up against. The Swansea result was good but Swansea were poor. They'll have faced Chelsea as well.
Either way they'll be a sterner test by far and Liverpool must take better control of their tougher matches. We can't afford to keep giving chances away. And we fail to extend leads right now.
We have six points from teams that we were well capable of messing up in the past so that's really positive.

Agree0 Disagree0

I could be badly wrong but I am not so sure Man U will be a sterner test the Villa.

Man U have a better team I guess but we always lift our game for that game and tend to be more attacking. Gerrard always seems to find another yard and puts in some big crunching tackles.

I think Lucas will be really important that game. The likes of Sturridge and Coutinho will need to exploit Man U slow pace in defence

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Aug 2013 21:30:20
Sevie G rock solid today as was Kolo. Lucas's late tackles and consequential free kicks may prove a problem if conceded to better teams, needs to tidy up his game a tad, good result away!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The booking Lucas received with that last freekick he gave away was nonsense mate, Lucas took the ball first, bad decision by the referee. You really need to spend sometime to watch Lucas in the game, he breaks down the opposistions play so often, it is the most underated aspect of the teams performances!

Agree0 Disagree0

I am aware of Lucas's work rate and contribution to the team effort, I also rate him highly as a player but I think Lucas would be the first to admit his own clumsiness in the last two games!

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Aug 2013 21:27:48
Kolo Toure was immense today, didn't think Benteke dominated like he did before.
A real leader and looks like he'll be first choice alongside Agger.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I agree Mark. He wasn't as great as v Stoke but his energy and will to win somehow shines through and inspires confidence .

Agree0 Disagree0

That's what you call making someone your bit

Agree0 Disagree0

So much for an old, washed-up, City reject. If he stays healthy, I see him playing till he is 36. Kolo kept Benteke so well that for the 1st half, I didn`t know he was on he field. Kolo is the boss.

Agree0 Disagree0

So happy with our win today! Agger, Toure and Sturridge all particularly impressive and it was a great team win!

In other LFC related news, I was at the Bradford City 2-0 Sheffield United game today (I live near Bradford so like to go watch them so I can go watch some football live every fortnight as I can't afford to go to LFC games regularly). I felt this was a good game for me to see Conor Coady - who is on loan from LFC to Sheffield Utd.

Despite the loss, Coady had a very tidy game. Only one of his passes failed to get to the target he aimed for as far as I saw and his ball retention was good. He played as defensive midfielder in a 3 man midfield for the Blades and did well stopping the opposition find space between the lines. His tackling, however, at time left a little to be desired - he was somewhat reluctant/weak when being taken on in 1 on 1's. Going forward, he had a decent effort from range and put in some well placed deep crosses - to me he was certainly his sides best player today.

Just thought I'd keep you guys updated on a young Liverpool loanees progress :)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Hey thanks Reid, appreciate it. please keep it coming during the course of the season

Good win today.

SG, Lucas, Kolo and Aggar were excellent today. Ground the result out. BR got the tactics spot on even though it was squeaky bum time 2nd half.

We shouldn't get ahead of ourselves but 2 from 2 is great, it will take the pressure off us and on Man U for a chanege if they lose on Monday

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Thought all of them were average at best to be fair, although kolo looks an inspired signing. Considering how many options we have at right back, Johnson really needs a spell on the bench.

Agree0 Disagree0

Tactics-wise, I like the way BR introduced Aly as a left winger. It was to add height to the defense and give Enrique some cover. It was smart and Aly did his job effectively. Good on you, BR!

A good win against a much improved Villa side where Benteke remained a threat despite excellent defending by Toure in particular but all should take credit as a unit.
Our football in the first half was sublime whilst we had to dig deep and play ugly in the second half against a determined Villa team.
Aspas, Coutinho and Sturridge were bright in the first half and with Gerrard and Lucas holding firm in the middle it allowed Enrique (who has had an impressive start this year) and Johnson to get forward. Henderson worked the lines well and gave us width.
The second half was different because we played deep preventing Villa to get behind us on the break which generally nulified them. We had to scramble the ball away and Henderson became isolated as did Sturridge who worked hard defensively.
A couple of good saves from Minuelet but despite all their pressure I always thought we would hold on.
If we are going to aspire to a top four finish these are the games that we need to dig deep and win and our mentality was spot on today. We certainly would have lost a game like this early last season and over the previous two.
If we can add to the squad which I feel sure we will we have plenty to look forward too.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The context is they've given two of he so-called top 4 sides more of a fright than us. I wouldn't over state it but tht augers well for us. And we were away from home

Agree0 Disagree0

Villa will cause teams probs this year going by what they did to chavski and arsenal. We were under pressure but it felt like we were always under control. We kept their front three (that have terrorized teams before today) very ineffective. I`ll take that any day.

Agree0 Disagree0

Exactly @ Kidder!.

If only the doom-mongers and football purists will understand that this Villa team nearly beat Chelsea.

We did very well. Isn't it a game of points? Weren't we all moaning about playing well last year but still losing or drawing?

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Aug 2013 01:09:00
I also think villa playing in mid-week helped their fitness and they looked sharper in second half, we will see it with chelski against the mancs, hopelly next week we will be a lot sharper and fitter, also I don't know about any one else, but really think our squad is quite thin, only 2 experience goal keepers, no defensive midfield cover for lucas, a centre back a winger and another striker/att midfielder is needed aswell imo, I know we haven't long in window, but if fsg have serious and realistic ambitions to finish in top 4, then they must back rodgers and help ayre finalised deals, because in football injuries. Are round the corner, we have a smaller squad then last season, I really hope we get a few in, it will give everyone that big boost to push us till january and then assess were we are! COME ON MR J W HENRY STEP UP AND BE THE OWNERS WE ALL HOPE AND THiNK YOU ARE! Y*N*W*A

I was just looking up the stats from last season. It took us 7 games to reach 6 points. We are definitely going in the right direction.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I here nominate this for the "Post of the Season".

It is accurate, simple, elegant and insightful in placing things in context.

A bit left-field, but I wouldn't mind Flamini as a back-up/challenging Lucas DM. On a free, wages may be high, but he's still only 29 I think, so a few good years left.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I agree and wages shouldn't be too high, if he's 29 give him a 2 year contract keep him as back up

Agree0 Disagree0

Lets not waste cash on players who won't make a difference. That's a Poulsen signing.

Agree0 Disagree0

Do people even understand that the club has a responsibility to spend money wisely?

The money to pay Flamini (who won't make an iota of difference) is coming fro m stiffs like me and you who don't earn in a year what Flamini earns in a week.

I don't begrudge anyone. But the club needs to spend wisely and judiciously and not throw money on crap.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Aug 2013 23:50:29
I thought he was going back to arsenal, he's certainly been training with them anyway,

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Aug 2013 21:10:14
For me, Sturridge was immense yet again. Not only a well taken goal and winning what should have been a penalty in the 2nd, but to be mixing it up on defense and playing as a RB (and doing so quite well) in the 2nd half shows the lad is anything but lazy. He was all over the pitch and I love to see that in a striker.

Well done to everyone and another 3 points. Any of those that said the likes of Mignolet and Toure will do nothing to improve our starting 11, please feel free to admit that you were dead wrong. Brilliant display by both once again.

Really interested to see what 11 BR fields on Tuesday. Perhaps a good chance to see the likes of Alberto, Cissokho, and Borini?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

24 Aug 2013 21:00:07
I can't believe some people are moaning about winning 1-0. I know the 2nd half display wasn't great but sometimes you have to win ugly, that as they say is the mark of a good team able to grind out results when you are playing badly. I would rather win 38 games 1-0 than 20 games 4-0.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Could not agree more! Give me 36 more 1-0 wins thank you very much!

Agree0 Disagree0

Villa are a different proposition to the Villa of the past 2-3 seasons. Trust me they will take points off the top teams.

Agree0 Disagree0

If you think Villa is a small team, then you are GRAVELY mistaken. That front 3 of Benteke, Agbons and Weimann will terrorize teams this year. You can book it.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Aug 2013 20:59:54
Good first half, I think with all that possession we should've added more goals, some of the decision making in the final third needs working on, but all in all not bad first half

2nd half, sloppy passing and less intensity, without kolo and mingolet we could well of lost today, play like that in the 2nd half against united and the stronger teams in the perm and we'll get embarrassed.

Not meaning to be negative because they're are plenty of positives. 1 or 2 more signings and we'll be in better shape

Believable0 Unbelievable0

24 Aug 2013 20:54:49
Great result today for us, hope we can do the same against united, the one thing that stood out for me is that we need that little bit more skill in hendersons position, I believe henderson will become an important central mid for us, but would love to see a ben arfa type player in his position on the right wing for now, what do ye guys think

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Hendersons discipline is exactly what we need in many games away from home.

Agree0 Disagree0

We can`t have a team full of artists. Hendo is needed in games like tis to cover ground and pressure the opposing team. He does what he does well and if we keep winning, he will stay there.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Aug 2013 20:50:12
Last year I took us 7 games to get to 6 points. Just saying.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We are 1st (joint) so 2nd. Don't think we ever broke into the top four last 2 seasons at any point start to finish, someone please tell me I'm wrong?!

Agree0 Disagree0

Last time we won our opening 2 games both with clean sheets was 2002 so we have at least started better than usual

Agree0 Disagree0

But "some fans are saying" that if we buy Arda Turan, we would have 12 points out of 2 games now.

I miss Rafa in the EPL. Fact

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I don't miss the stick he was given off chelsea fans anyway.

Agree0 Disagree0

Rafa had one good season in PL. If you'd said I miss Rafa in the CL I'd have been with you 100%. Those were great days and Napoli fans are in for one great nights. Followed by some frustrating Sundays at Verona and Genoa.

Agree0 Disagree0

Keep your eye on the prize, never look back.

Agree0 Disagree0

Kidder!, agree in full.

Andy K

Agree0 Disagree0

I would not want him back at LFC to be fair. We are actually making changes to the team and style of play now that I do not think we addressed under previous managers.

Rafa made signing good spanish players a joy and from that prospective would not mind him as a new ayre, but other than that (wish obviously will never happen) happy where we are

Great start to the season guys let's keep it up. We haven't had a start like that in a while and the positive pre season has certainly paid off.

24 Aug 2013 20:35:54
Ground out a difficult win. Alarmed at how negative and despondent we were going forward in the 2nd half but great to see us hold out for another win, very encouraging.

Don't think we would of won either game this season if Carragher and Reina were here. Great servants of the club but think Carragher was right to retire and think the club was right to move Reina on. Mignolet doesn't look as comfortable on the ball but jesus if he can make match winning saves like he did today he doesn't need to. Very good start to the season, let's hope we get in another couple of new faces before the window shuts.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I don't want to ever belittle a former or current player at LFC.

But Simon is probably on half of Reina's wages.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Aug 2013 20:18:04
Only caught the 2nd half. Was pleased with some of the interplay at times - lovely neat touches and dummies, but it did look like Villa were going to score towards the end. We need to stop panicking when other teams press. Against most teams in the EPL it is going to happen at some point in a game, so we need to keep shape, not panic, clear the ball (to an LFC player) and get on the counter. All in all really pleased with another 3 points.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Did you watch the Villa-Chelsea game during the week?

Most people will say that Chelsea has a deeper talent pool than we do. And this Villa team should have by rights won against Chelsea.

We did well. Got all the points away from home. Now were we talking about the match against villa or the coming one against ManU?

Agree0 Disagree0

Rushies, when you get chance watch first half, which for me was one of the best passing and possession halfs we have played. Real joy to watch

24 Aug 2013 20:10:30
Great result. Like it or not, that was somewhat of a 'Manchester United win.' Winning while not playing at our best. Of course, we would like to see us win every game 4-0, however we all know that this is simply not possible. Last season we probably wouldn't have won that game. 2 games, 2 1-0 wins, 2 clean sheets. I think everyone would have taken that start to the season. Added to the fact that we could sign another attacking player, and whatever your opinion on him, one of the best players in the league will likely be available for us in a few weeks.

Have a good evening!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Yeah I was just saying how I could see us with two 1-1 draws this time last season.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Aug 2013 20:10:22
3 points against a re-juvinated villa and let's not forget the last time we played them and stoke they both put 3 past us so huge improvements all round. Thought we looked tired in second half whilst villa came too life which surprised me.
Suarez back after the next 2 league games (if we beat notts county and he doesn't leave of course) so I would slot him in aspas position which will give us the additional threat up top. Great start though lads

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Sorry to burst your bubble vinny, but the league cup does not count to the ban.

Agree0 Disagree0

He's back for Sunderland unless he's playing Sociedad.

Agree0 Disagree0

Think you will find it does RedJay.

We've been made to sweat two games in row but its all about points and clean sheets and we have 6 and 2 respectively. We now won't sweat o much at home to United. One point purs us +3 on the season index. Kidders season index is still +2 pts right now

I think the ManU game is a MUST-WIN for us. A win (squeaky or comprehensive) for us against ManU will represent a massive confidence boost. It will solidify the team's belief in itself.

That's my opinion. What do you think?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

A game against United is always a must win.

24 Aug 2013 19:48:51
Listen . We always either loose these games previously or ended up drawing them because of the opposition equalising late on. these 2 results, I feel shows how far we have come as a unit.

I am very happy. This is the Premier league. No game is easy and we HAVE to grind out results sometimes, so to get max points from the first 2 games from usually past bogey teams is fantastic.

BR made a point that Mignolet could add 10 points a season. Well I'd say that's four already, 2 massive saves from Benteke efforts today. Very difficult game today but we put pressure on ourselves that 2nd half. Some of our passing and touches from our experienced players were awefull. All in all good first half poor second half yet we managed to secure the points which is the sign of a top side. Cissoko impressed me when he came on his powerful running relieved the pressure on a couple of occasions.Bring on the mancs.

Great result and great 1st half performance, thought we let them back in it in the 2nd half by sittin.g deeper

Toure was my motm without doubt, only 2 negatives for

Aspas was a wasted buy, not a premier league player imo, and finally the quicker we get rid of Johnson the better, he is absolute dire.

Still think we need 2 wingers another forward and a ch

alan50

Believable0 Unbelievable0

After having less than two full games of competitive play under his belt, you're writing off Aspas already? Do me a favour.

Fans like you are the reason people laugh at Liverpool.

Agree0 Disagree0

Johnson was horrific I have to say but certainly don't think we should get rid of him. Very harsh on Aspas though. He played well against Stoke, was more difficult today but I certainly think that he gives the squad more depth, to write him off after 1 quiet performance is to be honest pathetic, back the players man.

Agree0 Disagree0

Aspas? Could see some good moves and good forward balls from him both games!

Agree0 Disagree0

Aspas played alright, some good forward runs, I think it was the lack of support up top in the second half that made him look worse than he actually was. I've been impressed by him so far, he has that unpredictability about him going forward.

Agree0 Disagree0

Just the 4 players to nab in 10 days then Alan? How many will you want in Jan?

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Aug 2013 19:35:32
Another result grinded out, I feel for the last few seasons this is a skill we have lacked. As for Sturridge, what a pick up if we can improve the first 11 with an attacking player I can't wait to see what we can do. Next up the mancs which will truly show where we are at. On a side note, thanks again eds just hope the persons haven't jeopardised you telling us those eagerly awaited names.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

24 Aug 2013 19:35:13
It wasn't pretty but we'll take it. 2 games 2 wins 6 points. 2 clean sheets. Sturridge and Coutinho again the standout performers in the first half anyway. I think based on the first half performance and how well we defended second half we probably just deserved it. If we play like that and win 1-0 every game I'll be happy! The team we have now along with one or two more solid signings, add Suarez into the mix and top 4 is well within our reach. Well done lads, keep it up! You'll Never Walk Alone!

I now have no finger nails left nearly started smoking again the last 20 minutes but 6 points worth it I feel lol

Agree0 Disagree0

It shows how far we've come when we can stand up against real pressure against a strong away fixture that maybe in the last few years would prob get a draw out of. Taore and gerrard were absoutly key. as much as I loved suarez, really don't wan a see him break up the team spirite

Agree0 Disagree0

Agreed fellas we're showing grit and the experience of Gerrard and Toure helped a lot! I can only imagine how you feel giblet I still smoke and was a bag of nerves haha Was pleased to see Aly get his debut too he showed good intent and worked hard, looked like a big guy too, an imposing prescence.

24 Aug 2013 19:28:56
We got the three points but let's be fair that was a woefully bad second half, Rodgers didn't seem to mind Sturridge being so isolated and that knocks on the effect of being second for everything, especially when we tried pushing the ball 40/50 yards from defence to attack only to lose possession instantly and having the midfield being pulled left and right to try and regain the ball.

It wasn't working but Rodgers didn't change it, he seemed content to let it play out, now with hindsight we got the three points which is fantastic, we nullified Villa and Benteke and we got the all important clean sheet but I was disappointed in the second half, I thought after being so in control with possession in the first half that we needed to have more shots on their goal but we had only one in 90 minutes which is concerning I think is fair to mention.

But we've got maximum points so far, just 36 games to go and i'll be happy. :) YNWA Well done Kolo he's been excellent so far. Another excellent save from Mingolet which contributed to us winning. But food for thought for the attack aspect after today.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

Totally agree.

Agree0 Disagree0

Thought the big difference in the 2nd half (apart from Villa upping their game) was that Lucas was woeful and was in bad positions and making even worse decisions. I am a fan of his but felt that he was well below par today and 2nd half was a bit painful to watch.
I'm hoping that Suarez does stay as it will improve our creativity. Bit worrying that we don't seem to be able to get the second goal to easy our heavy beating hearts but at least that's 2 games, 2 wins and this time last year we would be giving away stupid goals in games list this.
YNWA {Ed002's Note -

Agree0 Disagree0

I think the main problem last season was that we we were playing it too dangerous when in the lead. Lost quiet a few wins by that method. I don't mind as long as we get 3 points.

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks for the "Positive" feed back?

Agree0 Disagree0

Bloody hell, end of the day we won. be happy!

Never nice to come to the website and immediately see posts like yours. WE GOT THE 3 POINTS!

Agree0 Disagree0

Little rays of sunshine. Everton have played Norwich & WBA and have 2 pts. Arsenal have played Villa (home) and Fulham and have 3 pts. We have played Stoke and Villa (away) and have 6 pts from 6. But let's worry about a game that has gone, we won, and has no relevance to the next one.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Aug 2013 19:28:55
Well I think we just. just got away with that.

First half we were awesome! Fluid, interchangeable, exciting football.

Second half, after 10 minutes we were garbage. We were. We seemed to lose all confidence and composure on the ball. Against better opposition we would have probably lost that game. The 1 positive from 2nd half is we didn't concede.Yes I think we should have had a penalty as well but what can ya do.

All in all its a good 3 points. I don't think many teams will leave villa park this season with 3 points!

Lots of improvment needed but boy does it feel food to have 6 points from the 1st two games. let's get behind the lads.

Onwards and upwards

cheers

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I actually think Villa are better suited to counter attacking away from home. Their home form last season was poor I think, and they got a lot of away points.

Such a waste to have Coutinho out wide, must get a wide player in so he can play centrally where he is world class.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Definitely, gets so isolated on the wing that it prevents him from knitting our attacks together - no coincidence Coutinho's isolation lead our entire attacking play evaporating in the second half, certainly need re-enforcements.

Well its better to be there in spirit if nothing else, did Johnson play today? Truly awful, how that young man has made a living out of football is beyond me.

2 from 2 get in! awful 2nd half tho. should have took henderson off he was like a ghost.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I thought Henderson was our best player. Opinions, huh.

Agree0 Disagree0

Henderson tracked back and put in numerous tackles!

Eyes open!

Agree0 Disagree0

Henderson did ok though, tracked back, jockeyed villain possession, didn't waste the ball when he had it - much better than Allen when he came on and Lucas for the entire game. Henderson is going to be abig player this season.

Agree0 Disagree0

The critics said BR had no pan B - always wants to pass, pass, pass and try and win 5-nil. He allows defenders to hoof it, plays Hendo to balance the midfield and throws Cissokho on to defend a 1-nil and people fail to realise he's become completely pragmatic . Do what it takes to win.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Aug 2013 19:26:22
Great 3 points. winning whilst playing so so is a good trait to develop. Allen was shocking when he came on. I counted he lost possesion about 5 times. Kolo was immense. All we need is that top left sided player and a DM,

Believable0 Unbelievable0

You were only counting HIS mistakes because you wanted only HIM to fail. Sad people like you should not be labelled as "fans".

Agree0 Disagree0

I didn't have to count his mistakes 'Piledriver'. pretty much everytime we lost the ball after he came on was as of consequence of his play. I would love nothing more than him to play well and become a top player! Hopefully he will be able to have a stand out season when he gets back into the team. I think Mignolet is motm, his saves gave us the 3 points.

What a great first half!

For me some of the best possession and passing I have seen from LFC. So glad to see BR style of play working to better effect now. Not so many backward balls and actually now really effective at pressing when out of possession.

Only problems as always is putting more goals so we can all relax a little!

But all in all fantastic start. just hope we don't drift off again

Believable0 Unbelievable0

God we do make hard work of the second half!
Mignolet great save on 85 mins but seriously what happened to the first half possession.

Still if we hold on then great stuff

Liverpool look good on the ball but villa are dangerous on the break. mignolet looks uneasy under crosses. he stays rooted to his line the whole time. hopefully he'll come out of that wit time! also, sturridge after his goal looked like he wasnt willing to chase defenders and make runs when our midfield wer in posession. overall, pretty good showing, come on u reds!

I think this team can be special. All we need is luck. Luck with injuries and referee decisions. I really don't see the need for any Mark Que 30m signing.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We're interested in Konoplyanka. If we can get him in for about 15 odd million that'd be a good deal I think

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't see how henderson contribute anything more then backtrack.?

Agree0 Disagree0

We need to be more ruthless. Tighter at the back and clinical up front.

Agree0 Disagree0

Is he a central defender? No? Then I don't see the urgency to sign him.

Agree0 Disagree0

We certainly do need another forward player, especially a goal scoring one. We won't always get lucky with these 1-0 wins, we need to convert more chances into goals to ensure we come away with the win more often than not.

Not to detract from the excellent resolute display from the boys today. Long may this form continue.

Anyone who can't see what Henderson contributes doesn't know much about football

Hi Eds, on behalf of all the posters on here (well most of us) can I say I am really sorry for all the abuse you have been getting on here. I think you all do fantastic jobs on here and I for one really appreciate it.

I would be lost without this site, but maybe to teach some people a lesson close the site till after the transfer window closes. I know its not fair punishing everybody for a the sake of a few tossers, but it might teach them a lesson. Some people need to grow up and join reality a bit, spending big doesn't always guarantee success and you can only report what you have heard.

Take it easy eds. {Ed002's Note - It has improved considerably.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

To be honest SA I think regardless of peoples opinions on what we spend, how we play, how the club is run, etc etc the editors shouldn't be getting abuse for giving information. Its a football website were opinions are shared and quite often insider info is given, I don't see why people need to resort to insults, its just stupidity and the sooner it stops the better.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

There is no way that Allen should play instead of Henderson. This is only the second game in so he doesn't need a rest and we need to gain momentum to get a good run going. Only change if necessary at the moment.

Hi Eds and Lfc fans,
I have been wanting to ask, who people would like the most for our Left-sided Attacker?
Personally I think the realistic options (lack of European football & financial constraints), are:
Turan, Ayew, Gaitan, Konoplyanka, Ljajic, Muniain, Stocker & Griezmann

In particular Ed's, I want to know your opinions on Stocker, Gaitan and Griezmann? They don't get mentioned a lot really.

Please post Ed's, Cheers :) {Ed002's Note - I don't know of any interest from Liverpool in any of the three nor do I expect any to move to Liverpool. Stocker will be moving to Schalke 04 next week although they are haggling over the price a little still. My understanding is that Manchester United and PSG did speak with Benfica about Gaitan in January but no bid was made as the asking price was seen to be far too high. Interest from Bayer Leverkusen and Arsenal will have waned. I understand that Benfica had an approach from Anzhi for Gaitan but the player has made it clear he has not any interest in talking to them - and they will by now have no further interest. Else, I understand that the interest still remains from Manchester United and PSG, but not at the price being asked. He will be allowed to move this summer but unless Benfica drop their price, nothing will happen. Athletico Madrid, Arsenal, Valencia, Marseille and Lyon have shown some interest in Griezmann in the recent past and repordedly Barcelona tool a look at one time. Whilst the kid has said that he has no plans to leave Spain anytime soon the financial problems being faced by Real Sociedad may still see him leave the club in the summer. The two clubs showing a real interest right now are Rennes and Fiorentina.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Thanks for the reply again Ed002, out of interest, Can I ask about Muniain?

Not just from a transfer point of view, but also why he had a dip in form last season, compared to the season before last, were he was outstanding in my opinion.
Cheers :) {Ed002's Note - There is nothing new about Muniain and I would very much doubt he will be moving this summer at all.}

Anyone watching Arsenal? Have to admit they look very good going forward.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

They usually do - it's the end product they often struggle with. Along with the gaping holes in their 'defence'. They'll still be in the fight for fourth with us and Spurs though. People are always writing off ManU and Arsenal but it's always rubbish.

They're a very good side even before they make signings. Anyone writing them off is delusional!

Agree0 Disagree0

They are a good side but then eventually they get hit with injuries and their squad is stretched. I was wondering why Wenger wated to sign a forward as it is clear that the problem lied in the holding midfield role, when Arteta doesn't play, and at centerback. My friend the other day tried to convince me that Konscielny is a better centerback than Agger.

Not sure if it's been raises previously, but do you think, from Rodger's recent interview about Willian, that he's less than impressed with the owners at the moment? It seems from the way he was speaking that he considered William to be worth the extra couple of million and is frustrated that the owners have not backed him.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It's way more than a couple of million once everything's included, but BR primarily concerned about getting a top class forward in than with the financial details. I still have faith that Turan will happen - looking way more likely than anything else this summer and preferable to Willian in my opinion.

Agree0 Disagree0

And perhaps the owners are less than impressed with Rodgers summer 2012 haul of Allen, Borini, Sahin and Assaidi?

Perhaps Rodgers needs to first demonstrate that he knows what he is doing before complaining about backing from owners - owners who have backed him already.

Agree0 Disagree0

Either way Chelsea were always going to get their man, so I wouldn't criticise the owners too much. I doubt he will be worth the 30 million to them.

Agree0 Disagree0

So fireball, does his signing of coutinho and sturridge not make up for last summer or maybe you're saying they Trust him in the winter but not the summer transfer window

Does anyone think that maybe City may renew their interest in Skrtel as Kompany is injured?
Reason for this is I don't see Skrtel fitting into Rodgers system and the club could spend the dough on a more costly option than they may well have.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Possible as they're getting desperate, but Nastasic should be back soon and he's class so they may just want someone as more temporary cover (Demichelis). Think we'd be more open to selling to a PL rival in Skrtel's case providing we had Sakho or Ilori lined up, but it's still highly unlikely.

Agree0 Disagree0

Pellegrini won't want Skrtel, he'll want some continental styled footballer not a bruiser. Just my opinion though.

Agree0 Disagree0

Most Liverpool fans not consider Skrtel a bruiser. Quite the opposite. We've had a soft centre for 3 seasons.

Agree0 Disagree0

Bruiser? He's VERY weak. Sterling would be a stronger CB

One for Ed001,

If Liverpool hadnt been banned from Europe after Hysel, how do you think the team of Barnes, Rush, Beardsley et al would have faired in Europe at the time.

With the likes of the Milan team back then with Van Basten, Gullit & Rijkaard do you think we could have bossed europe?

Fellow reds, what do you think.

Crooky {Ed001's Note - I see no reason to think we couldn't have continued to compete in Europe with the team we had. AC Milan were great then, but so were we.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

No doubt about it Crooky, we would now have 6 European Cups instead of 5.

The legends of 87-88 were the greatest Liverpool team ever in my opinion.

Agree0 Disagree0

Many Everton supporters still insist that they had a good chance of European success if it wasn't for the ban.

In their defence, I think they did, and who knows what would of been the consequences if English teams weren't banned as it might have changed the footprint of English football.

Still, we'll never know, but what a shame.

Hi Eds, not seen my last few posts on here. Hope I haven't said anything to pee one of the eds off :3

Erm I just want to gather some opinions about why people are STILL talking about Eriksen. You have told use the issues many a time and honestly, with Suso, Coutinho, Alberta and Henderson I really don't think he's all too necessary. So why are people still acting like if we don't get him, the club will perish?

Thanks all.

Btw prediction today: plenty of chances, few goals, 1-0 to the pool.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I am afraid this might end up being an high scoring game. We need to keep it tight in the middle and at the back.

Eds! how's it goin? YNWA! please tell me why you think Breno Rodgers hasn't snapped up C.Eriksen and T.Alderweireld? They are youthful (which he likes), they are skillful on the ball and off (which he likes), both would be affordable (which he needs), 1 is an attacking midfield who can play on the wings (next to Coutinho) and 1 is a centerback (which we need, Kolo is my new hero but he can't play every game), I don't get it, they both showed their admiration for us way back at the beginning of the summer break. who would you say would be better targets instead of them? Cheers, YNWA {Ed002's Note - It is not as easy to "snap up" players as you perhaps think. Eriksen suffers from constantly talking to the press and clubs don't like that. Hazard's move to Chelsea was in jeopardy for that reason and commitments needed to be obtained from him. Look at what happens every time Suarez talks to the media. However, the situation is now that if Liverpool do have an interest in Eriksen (And they have made no offer to date), now is the time to step in as there is significant interest from elsewhere. Alderweireld is available and being looked at by other clubs - as is covered elsewhere.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Money isn't the issue is these cases as both are valued reasonably. Seems like we've moved on. Turan, Capel, Ilori and maybe Sakho are highest on the list at the mo.

It was clear at the end of last season, we needed to strengthen in a few first team areas, notibly defence and a top class attacker. At the end of the season, the BBC quoted that rodgers was to be given a 30million pot to work with plus whatever sales be made. We have sold carrol, shelvey and downing to my recollection that has raised 25-28 million.
We have replaced reina with mignolet, retired carra with toure, added Alberto, aspas and cissoko. Toure, mignolet, cissoko imo will will be a huge improvement within our defense.next year and I hope kelly really pushes johnson for rightback as he is a liabilty and terrible defender, to put a clause in the amount of games a player plays is just crazy but its happening all to often.
Aspas is a great little first eleven player and alberto will' be a terrific player. We should theoretically have a large amount left without the need of any sales to buy a top attacker and I believe that we need as rodgers has identified one or two real improvements in the starting eleven. I hope we end this window bringing those players in so we have every chance of top four, if not its a top six finish.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Am tired of you lot who are moaning with brendan.he has been given money to spend regularly since he became manager all he does is give excuses like he did last season.he needs to stop moaning and identify targets who would come to us for less than 30m
Willian douglas costa and mkhitaryan the club was willing to pay in excess of 20m if that isn't backing your manager then brendan can resign and stop making it obvious he can't deal with high expectation

Agree0 Disagree0

This is nonsense. Both Costa and Mkhitaryan were both below £30 million and they still didn't end up at Liverpool. Now maybe the powers that be decided that the players were overpriced but it cerainly not because Rodgers is picking extremely expensive players.

Agree0 Disagree0

Those players were selected with Suarez's departure in mind. If LFC are indeed going to play hardball and keep LS then the profile of targets to support the group changes. Ilori & Ince/Atsu will do (or indeed a loan signing at LW) if Suarez & Skrtel stay. If those two go you need different signings. I agree its getting late and we've been burnt before so I can see us rejecting LS bids this summer.

Turan £20m and Ilori £6.5m would complete our squad nicely then we can re asses in jan on how to replace suarez if he goes. See how we are fairing for champions league spots.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

26.5m is too much for those two. Better value elsewhere.

Agree0 Disagree0

There really isn't better value elsewhere, unless you highly rate Capel and Ryan Shawcross.

Agree0 Disagree0

No that perfect or turan and sakho for 32m

Agree0 Disagree0

Turan for 15 million and Ilori for 3.5m. That's the highest I will go.

It has to be remembered that the money spent on players comes from the club's fans (many of who are working class middle of the road folks). It should be spent responsibly.

I like the business the club has done this summer. If no one else comes in, we can still have a fun season.

Agree0 Disagree0

A kid with a handful of games and a winger who's no better than Downing are not worth 26.5m.

Eriksen & Alderweireld valued at 22.5 combined makes my point. Seasoned internationals with CL experience used to playing in a footballing team. I make that 4m cheaper so you see there is better value. Eriksen goals and assists are better than Turan and one can become a 35m player while the other wont.

Agree0 Disagree0

Turan is both better than Downing and Eriksen in both the CAM and the wing role. He's phenomenal and to say he's not worth 20m is absolutely astonishingly personic. Actually watch some of his games and then judge him. As for Ilori, he's a pacey CB who is a huge upgrade on the likes of Coates but may hinder Kelly's opportunities as a CB. Personally I prefer to have Kelly develop.

Agree0 Disagree0

£26 million for those two I think more than worth it. I'd rather Arda than Willian at same price of £30 plus million so would take those two for 26 for sure.

Hoping very much we pursuit Arda or failing that Honda

cmon lpool another 3 points today will be great think it will be a very tough game villa started well and unlucky at Chelsea not to get level, they might not play the most wonderful footy but they are working very hard as a team, but think if we play are game we will be able to undo them to many times but we will have to defend better or benteke and aghbonlahor will have a real go, 2-1 to us coutinho 1st scorer

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Benteke is a power house. We have a race horse in Sturridge. I think it's all about the supply to Benteke and our midfield being able to choke down Villa's build up play.

When Villa struggle to feed Benteke he drops deeper and tries to be a Roy of the Rovers and do it all, but he's so good with his back to goal that I hope Kolo and Agger are on it today and have a shut out.

It will be tough but I think we will win . maybe I have the heart ruling the head a bit but two one to us

Roberto Firmino of Hoffenheim being considered.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

There was interest in Firmino a while back, before Coutinho signed I think.

Agree0 Disagree0

He is another quality player.
But really think the club scouts are personic. The manager consistently says he wants a top class LW with pace and goals. How have they not put forward the name of Konoplyanka is beyond me.
He is the perfect LW and within our price range. Sometimes the scouting network is really head wobbling.

They waste time on players like Willian who would be demanding 100K wages and neglect players like Yarmalenko and Konoplyanka would would together cost around 100K in wages and provide us with the same quality.

Agree0 Disagree0

Give it a rest with the love in with these two players Navjyot. It's every day. How do you know who we have scouted?

Agree0 Disagree0

Its simply because they are quality players and most likely would not snub us as not many money laden clubs are interested in them.
It really feels miserable when the club decides to pursue players like Willian and Mkhitryan and then decide we will not pay the money their club demands. So why go after them?
Rather fish in the pool of players we can afford and who would be willing to come. Its as simple as that.

Agree0 Disagree0

It's about timing. Big clubs wanted Torres & Suarez but we signed them. Other clubs were interested in Coutinho and we got him too. Arsenal looked at Mignolet but who does he play for. By your logic Manchester United are muppets or thinking they could attract Lewandowski, Fabregas & Alcantara to OT. Better for them to fish in a smaller pond too to avoid disappointment?

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Aug 2013 10:56:09
It seems easy at the moment for the people in charge of LFC to say no to a transfer just by saying the player is not value for money allowing no spend. They might say they have money but they don't seem willing to pay any asking prices of the selling club hence we won't get the quality.

Where does BR actually stand on involvement on transfers other than identifying targets with his scouts?

I can see a situation as last summer where BR let's Suarez go and gets promised the funds only to have the people in charge refuse to pay for an alternative.

BR is basically a coach and not a manger under FSG?

I'm happy we didn't pay the £30m and high wages for Willian but if BR really thought he was a key to our side the board should have backed him.

It's going to be slow progress for BR with his hands being clearly tied and as fans should back him and not FSG if we don't get top 4.

Arsenal so far haven't spent but could well do and TOT have been very active who will be our main competition for 4th are streets ahead of us in terms of quality now.

Worried for our club and I don't wish to be negative but a couple of losses will put the club back in turmoil as fans will start shouting at the owners for not spending and take the focus off our campaign.

The game today is going to be really tough against a similar side.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agree 100%. Support Rodgers and not FSG. We can all see the progress in the pitch and there are players look at Eriksen he would be worth double the £12m so where's the paying over the odds excuse there? Turan Alderwield Sahko all top players all covering position we need and all under true value.
No point owning a Ferrari and moaning about the cost of petrol.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with most of what you say. As ed002 has stated on numerous occasions it is Rodgers who is picking the players but he is obviously doing so under a budget. So maybe when we are picking Fulham type players that is all he can afford if he feels he needs to make a change and obviously nearly all the players coming in are on vastly reduced wages to those going out. I also think that the only reason that we are looking at the Willians of this world is because Suarez is going and not to play along side him.Im left with a disappoinment for this window. Not necessarily with Suarez being sold but the lack of money being made available for other players.

Agree0 Disagree0

But what if player doesn't want to come to LFC? Of the ones you list, only Turan is inclined to come play for us. The others don't want to come, (Maybe Sakho does, but that's a different story). {Ed002's Note - I rather think Sakho "wanting to move to Liverpool" has been over-played.}

The posts I've not been able to get through basically said
Go and get Turan and Sakho today
Just pay the fee and get it done
Any player that RM want to offer us as part of a deal for Suarez will be a bonus (they always like to offer a player) {Ed002's Note - I really don't see Sakho as an option unless Agger or Skrtel leaves. Ilori is the far more likely option.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I agree Ed but I believe we should sell Skrtel and get Sakho.
Can I ask what you think will happen with Suarez now Ed? {Ed002's Note - Sell Skrtel to whom Chris. Csonto made his intentions clear and he won't be going any where he doesn't want to. Liverpool has already turned down a decent offer from Napoli and they have moved on to other targets. As for Sakho, both Napoli and Milan has rejected the chance to buy him at the asking price which leaves the player pretty much stuck now. Napoli are still also considering Sakho as an alternative to Alderweireld but are seeking a loan now. PSG are of the opinion Milan would also take him on loan. However, PSG has made it clear to the player that he will need to sign a contract extension if he is to be allowed to leave on loan. His other alternatives are he leaves - but no one will pay the asking price, signs a new deal and sorts himself out or sees the coming season out in the reserves. As for Suarez, there will be an offer from Real Madrid and they would like to get to the negotiating table where they have some options they will look to present. I really don't know what Liverpool will do. They might be bullish and be prepared to force someone who wants to leave the club stay. The toxic effect of that on the "dressing room" and the club will make life difficult for all. You ask any professional footballer about playing with a player who doesn't want to be at the club and they will tell you they won't like it.}

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Aug 2013 10:41:38
So time is running out now in terms of signing players, does anyone else think that the club have made an almighty c**k up in letting Downing go? He wasn't a world beater I know but he did a job. I mean we're now pretty tight on options on the wing now wouldn't you agree?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

So many options on that side aspas saurez sterling even Kelly right back be Johnson on right mid if playing 4 back 4mid!

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Aug 2013 12:16:12
Downing was always going to fail once Carroll left. Just look at his style of play. Comolloi signed him because he consistently put in more crosses and created more opportunities than most players in the league, and if you look at his stats from last season that is still true.
Our issie with Downing is simple, he's not Lennon Walcott or Bale who is going to take on his man and drive into the box to shoot or pull back. He is more similar to Beckham who gives himself a couple of yards and crosses, pin point, for the big man to put away. This is why Beckham ended up following Van Nistlerooy and why Downing has ended up following Carroll.
When we signed Downing he was probably thrilled, he would have put crosses onto big Andys head all day and we would have loved them both for it, then Rodgers decides that we want to play slick football and gets rid of Carroll, and all of a sudden Downing becomes a spare part because the target of his skill is gone. At Villa he put the ball in for Carew and Heskey.
I believe Downing will have a good season at West Ham because Allardyce understands his style of play and will let him put the ball in for AC. You wouldn't ask Beckham to take on his man and score, because its not his game, and Downing is the same, Rodgers saw this as soon as he came in and that's why he made him available but fairplay to Downing he fought to try and change and fit in and did a decent job, but with only little Suarez to aim for with his crosses he was never going to be a hero.

Another long post Ed, but a valid one I hope youd agree.

It should be very good for squad and first time if below were to happen

Ins:
A.Turan : 20M
Erickson and Alderwield : 20M
T.Illori : 6M

Outs :
Suarez: 50M
Skretel : 10M
Wildon : Loan.

Still we would be in Green :)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

That would be a poor window altogether. Erikson is simply not needed. We have already blown a good 6M on Luis Alberto who wasn't needed as we had Suso and Texiera.
A good window at this time would be KEEPING SUAREZ, while signing Illori, and maybe a quality attacker or 2.

A Ukranian site last night reported that we have enquired about Yarmalenko and his club will sell for 20M pounds. Seriously hope its true him along with his compatriot Konoplyanka would be excellent buys and would cause havoc down the wings.

Agree0 Disagree0

If Skrtel does happen to leave then I would hope that Ilori will not be his direct replacement. I would have hoped for a more experienced CB for Skrtel. Replacing Coates for Ilori would have been a good move in my opinion. The only thing replacing Skrtel for Ilori is good for is knocing another 40 grand of the wage bill a week. The owners will be pleased.

Agree0 Disagree0

Eriksen, Alderweireld, Ilori & Morata on loan for 27m with 60m in for Skrtel & Suarez would be sensible business. It's a change of plan top left but Coutinho & Eriksen rotating between that position and the 10 role would be great. Ibe and Sterling can provide pace and penetration as subs. We'd have 30m spare plus potential fees for Reina & Assaidi available early next summer or the cash on standby in January when there may be some deals to be done.

Not saying this is likely but Suarez to Chelsea and Mata plus cash would be a good move for both clubs in my opinion - subject to Mata being persuaded to join LFC of course. We'd get what we want (versatile forward who can play top left with lots of goals/assists) and Chelsea get what thy want (top striker, bulldog spirit, goals and assists and can play across front positions like Mata). Experience in PL makes it less risky for both teams and both players are "winners".

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The problem is, 1) Despite Suarez's representatives meeting Chelsea twice, to get them interested in him, they are not interested.

2) Would Mata want to come here?

Agree0 Disagree0

Mata and lukaku and maybe we mite have to give m money on top of that. most unlikely though I know . lots of sides would snap mata up

Agree0 Disagree0

As I said its not likely but he's the type of player that would be a suitable replacement for LS. Chelsea would not want him to go to Arsenal, United or Man City but possibly would let him go to us. The only reason he'd come to us is if he was excited about the prospect of helping lead he team to top 4 and better times ahead. That would need all of Brendan's powers of persuasion!

I've dreamed of this too. Mata plus £20m, that would be a good deal.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd take a straight swap that's how highly I rate Mata.

Is it just me or do the rest of you think that the Ed's are after world domination?

Just watched a couple of old Bond movies and I am convinced that they are in fact Specta.

Convinced they control the price of wheat gold and more worryingly red wine and bear. Views every one should we report them to the authorities? But risk loosing the insight wit and banter or just offer up our services after all if they take over the world they can't do worse than te current

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Chris, whatever the Ed's maybe, I am pretty sure they won't be deciding the price of "bear".

I can't help but feel bad for Rodgers. He's been forced to reduce the wage bill and thin the squad due to mindless spending from past managers. He's had to sell to buy, been given no funds and the club isn't bringing in our top transfer targets. Yet we still look like a good team and were playing some of the most attractive football we've played in the last 20 years. IMO if Rodgers betters Liverpools 7th place come the end of season he has had an amazing season and deserves massive credit by improving the squad on a shoestring budget and playing the right way.

i agree if r squad stays the same and we don't bring in at least 3 quality players cb, lw, mid we r going to do well for 6th if you look at what other teams r doing and have already got. I wouldn't take any notice of arsenals crap start it will be a big fight with them and spurs for 4th imo, but its ok to expect little and maybe get more than have stupid expectations and be left feeling like sack the manager, blame the owners who have done a lot for r club in terms of money and backing r boss in their time here, maybe we all have to have a bit of patience.

Spot on lad. unbelievable to amount of finger pointers on here pipe up about Rodgers and fsg sometimes. The way I see it he has moulded the squad of average players seen who can handle the style of football. And shipped out the ones that can't and let's be honest here that's downing and Carroll gone straight away! And not only that bought in coutinho (absolute bargain) and sturridge! Two absolute gems. So forget about these marquee signings and trust in brendon team and ideas as I certainly am enjoying watching Liverpool and love going to anfield again, especially after the last few seasons! Come on lads! 3 points today I can feel in.

A "shoestring" budget of 84 million pounds spend in 3 windows!

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree, he has a bloody hard job, but is trying to do it the right way after the awful standard of Hodgson and the dreadful waste of money that Comolli and Dalglish put onto the club. I have been a critic of Allen and Borini, but both are young enough to come good and I would happily be proved wrong.
I would say that of the new signing this summer Toure looks good, very impressed, Mignolet won us the game against stoke, Aspas looked lively and intelligent, haven't seen enough of Alberto to make a judgement but Rodgers brought us little Phil and another 20 goal a season striker in Sturridge so I'm happy to trust his judgment.

Agree0 Disagree0

The real AG. The sad fact of football nowadays is that you could argue that 84 million in 3 windows is a shoestring budget.

Not a rumour as such just a point of hypocrisy.apparently Tottenham are furious with Chelsea for hijacking the Willian move.anyone else see the irony in that?lol

Its probably just paper talk mate, you know what the British press is like. They talk sh*ep just to stir up a bit of controversy. However, in the unlikely case Tottenham do actually believe Chelsea forked out that amount just because they saw Tottenham as title contenders if Willian was purchased then that is one of the most laughable and self-righteous things I've heard in football for a long, long time.

JFT 96

JP {Ed002's Note - Willian was a long-term target for Chelsea but someone well positioned at the club stopped any chance of a deal in January 2012 because he was, as I have explained, concerned about the returns (goals and assists) for such a direct player. This move is a result of him being persuaded that with the right coaching that will improve, and he is seen as an improvement to the squad - at the expense of another player.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Would that player be Victor Moses ED002? {Ed002's Note - Right.}

Hi eds, is there any interest in Inter's Mateo Kovacic? Another promising youngster in their books after signing from Zagreb. Versatile midfielder in a similar mould to Coutinho, but more comforted to sitting deeper. {Ed002's Note - Nope.}

I do support and love the club and am very very greatful FSG rescued us from the clutches of Hicks&Gillette as I have said in a post before. But Warner needs to choose his words carefully about saying about 'resources and competing with top clubs because it has sent out wrong message to some of us including BR. {Ed002's Note - If you have been a long-term reader of the site you would know not to hang off the words of anyone being interviewed.}

2 games, started on the right wing, and 2 assists and heavily involved in the other 2 goals Almeria has scored. He has done well.

If ARDA joins LFC, this will bring to close the longest transfer saga in LFC history. And on this forum.

We will see how this window goes.

Thanks Eds.

The transfer window seems to have depressed many fans recently, but I've decided to look at it in a possitive light. Our squad does seem thread bare but can you imagine being one of the youngsters in this situation? A few injuries/suspensions here and there and they know they could get there chance. Players like Dunn (who I think has a bright futue) Yesil Sama mcglochlin (spelling) Texiera to name a few may well get into the squad. (may well only be bench duty) This I feel will be great in the long term. Sometimes a young player with better players around them step up to the plate and suprise everyone. let's give all the players our support this season and intimidate the opposition with that famous Anfield atmosphere. I'd have to agree I think if we don't sign any1 its not a mojor issue. I really think player like sterling, ibe, wisdom ect. Will really step up if needed. And if sturridge can stay fit we'll be ok at least thought till jan anyhow

Eds, I know BR said we are 10 days out from end of transfer window but if he had to sign someone to cover CB and an extra forward who do you really think he would have a crack at? {Ed002's Note - RTP - this has been covered.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Sakho and Muriel, Muriel, Muriel!
In Buck we trust! {Ed002's Note - There has been a little twist in the situation with Sakho in that PSG has made it clear to the player that he will need to sign a contract extension if he is to be allowed to leave on loan (which Napoli want) - else he leaves, signs a new deal and sorts himself out or sees the coming season out in the reserves.}

Hey sorry if it's been asked before and if it comes across sounding negative, but do you actually see Liverpool signing a forward player of somewhat proven quality. Just after how the last season ended and getting excited about multiple rumored targets (HM, Costa, and Wiliian) may worry is that we lack a bit up front, sure our best possibly 11 looks great but lacks game changers and proven quality. I like competition for places and would prefer some what proven quality (turan, griezman, lamela, Muriel or yarmolenko would be idle, just someone a bit more proven!) my worry is it seems to take us a long time to seal a transfer and there isn't much time left. Sturridge is quality (but injury prone) and well Saurez is Saurez, so would love to hear we are actively pursing a forward (idly a winger who can play striker, a goalscorer). Know it's long winded just don't see game changers/goal scorers on bench and think people are giving spurs and gunners squads too much praise (both generally have 1-3 proven goal scorers per squad, [walcott, cazorla, & giroud and bale/Soldado, maybe Defoe]). Cheers!

Arsenal are waiting for Madrid to get Suarez so they can go in for Benzema and Madrid will move for Suarez if Arsenal sign Benzema.

The last time Liverpool won their first game of the season (1-0 v Sunderland in 2008/09) they went on to finish 2nd in the league!
Just a touch of optimism for downbeat Liverpool fans who are upset we lost out on our 'Marquee' signing of the summer (Willian, HM & Costa)

P.S. credit to OptaJoe for this FACT

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We did have a much better squad back then.

Agree0 Disagree0

Not negative just realistic, Rodgers himself says we need to buy more quality to get top 4. At the moment we look good but thin squad

Montpellier won the French Ligue 1 couple of years back! Nobody expected that did they? Only good players in that team off top of my head was Giroud, John & Belhanda?

Do you think will allowed downing to be sold and suso loan due to the same reason last season, br was told that fsg would buy a player? This has not happend. Could we recall suso

Believable0 Unbelievable0

No. It is simpler than that. See it so happens that Downing under-performed during his stay at the club while Suso needs the experience.

Hi eds and fans

This is for Eds02, I see after a few posts over Turan, Damiao & Suarez you said one possibility is that we could try & bring in possibly 2 players from Madrid to cover our transfer needs, one permantly & one loan, could you give any clues on who might be within our reach from Madrid if say this sort of deal was to transpire, we all know the club se to be looking for that big name lately so dream names like Di Maria, Alonso, Benzama ect would be muted but in all honesty these players don't want to go to London with Spurs or CL football with Arsenal so would we have any chance for any of these type of players?, obviously Alonso has a soft spot for us, but he's out for 3 months, but more towards attacking wise, is there any of the big class players who maybe surplus to requirements that would be attracted to a move to Anfield? {Ed002's Note - I don't want to get in to the possible loan or exchange options from Real Madrid - as I explained. We are trying to keep the site clean and happy but there have been enough abusive mails to stop going down that road. I don't see Benzema or Di Maria moving to Liverpool.}

they won't want to go to london and they won't want to go their for champions league so would they come here? man what planet are you from?

Agree0 Disagree0

Red bar if you read it properly I didn't say they would come here, I was asking if we could likely see them here albeit on loan, some players still do moves to clubs based on history & reputation not just for money, albeit not many. As some fans seem to forget just who we are, we are Liverpool Football Club, 18 times champions 5 times European cup winners, the team that just pulled in hundreds of thousands of fans into stadiums over 3 games on tour, were not a middle of the road club like Spurs or a big English club like Arsenal we are a massive worldwide club, still one of the top 5 in the world with Barca, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich & Man Utd. That's the planet I'm on, the planet most reds are on, the planet of Liverpool football club
