hi eds, any info on sahin making another u turn for arsenal again please tell me its not true!! {Ed019's Note - haha it's not true }

24 Aug 2012 23:21:18
Ok reds, one from the past and one present we need to sign, who would it be, realistically (and I don't mean messi or cavani etc). I reckon from the past Aldo, would be absolutely perfect to hit a good 30 for us and present, well for me, let's get sturridge in, thoughts and comments?

Red hag

From the past i think Ian Rush and for the present think we need a striker who can get at least 20 goals a season and i don`t think Luis can do that as he misses alot of chances as proved last season and also against west brom on sat if he had scored from those chances we would of been home and hosed by the time agger got sent off

does anyone know why assaidi isnt in the provisional squad to face man city?

He was fasting recently and has had one day of training

24 Aug 2012 23:11:37
Adam Johnson signs for Sunderland so thats that one put to bed. Strange one me thinks but hey ho...

Looks like Sahin, plus others as and when we sell existing targetted player(s).

24 Aug 2012 23:07:46
This whole Adam Johnson saga has annoyed me! For 10 million it was defo worth a punt! All those sayin we don't want him, he's lazy ect. Tell me how many times has he come on last 10-15 mins for citeh, and produced either a goal or an assist, even dribbled past a player? I'm not sure but 1 thing I can say is I'd pick him over downing any day of the week!

You make out like 10m is nothing. It isn't as simple as that, we are talking about a player with high wage demands who is known as being lazy, you say that isn't a valid point but we've signed Assaidi, known for his trickery and skills for cutting in from wide who turned down the likes of Ajax to join us - surely we should give the lad a chance before buying another player with similar attributes? Assaidi was a steal and should be given the chance to prove himself, its pointless buying another player in a similar position when our most pressing matter is using the money LFC has left to purchase a goal scoring forward. I for one hope to God we get Dempsey.

JFT 96

JP

There's a reason you only see him come on for 10 - 15 mins.

He IS lazy and can't be trusted to perform for 90 mins.

That doesn't just mean dribbling past a couple of defenders or putting some good crosses in.
It means tracking opposition midfielders, tackling, shadowing and working hard!

He does none of the hard work. He's a luxury player and a player we don't need.

Joe

Boot room blarney - i think we have the makings of a very good team the jury is out on borini,if we get a great goalpoacher -is rushie still available- i think with this team and what i have read that hasnt been negative which there isnt a lot well champions league here we come but only if we get a GREAT goalpoacher ,please please please that would be great

Yep a 21 year old hasn't scored a hat-rick yet so he will be terrible

24 Aug 2012 23:01:24
We should go for Christian poulsen. He must be a good player if he plays for Ajax
Tommy.

24 Aug 2012 22:58:58
Why is everyone still going on about Adam Johnson, he is another Ryan Babel. Both got the talent to be world class but not the mentality.

24 Aug 2012 22:54:08
If I was Rodgers the first thing Id have done as manager would be to make Pepe Reina captain and Lucas as vice captain. Anyone agree?

Mine would be Agger as C & Lucas as VC

What a tool!!

rodger the dodger

Yea thats right strip a local lad of the captaincy,who grew up supporting the club hes played for all his footballing life,and who just happens to be one of the best players to ever pull on the shirt.... you clowns need to give ya heads a wobble!!

The sturridge rumours are gathering pace,something is going on behind the scenes.Alan shearer has just said
Victor Moses has signed for Chelsea. Now opens the door for Daniel Sturridge to join Liverpool. Another strong player to add for #LFC

lets hope it's true.

As long as we get the Sturridge that played for Bolton and not the one that's been playing for Chelsea, I'd be okay with this.

24 Aug 2012 22:44:03
We didn't miss out on Adam Johnson because we never bid for him, just the same scenario as Sigurdsson,Moses etc. Granted he is a good player but the fact he's joined Sunderland suggests to me he's realized his level. He's a selfish winger who doesn't play with his head up, something all great players demonstrate.
I can already see a lot of work has been invested in Sterling regarding team ethic. We don't want him to lose his flair but he's already showing mature signs of positional awareness, ie when he unselfishly played Borini in on the stroke of half time against Hearts. I believe in little more than a year his natural physical development will see him become a player far in advance of anything Johnson can aspire to.
I also have to say I was quite impressed with Downing at left back up until the point he was muscled out orca challenge near the death but he looked pretty composed and assured. I don't suggest for one minute we should employ him there but if he is to be retained it increases his value to the squad, and trust me, to date I have not been a Downing fan but credit where credit's due.
We looked a different side once we'd scored, plus the introduction of Allen. The passing became crisper and the ball moved more quickly. It's still very early days and a lot of re-structuring of the squad awaits but I was heartened by many aspects of the Tynecastle 2nd half and believe in patches gave us a glimpse of the future.
It's far from perfect right now but I for one am looking forward to the journey under Rodgers with great optimism and excitement whilst accepting the inevitable disappointments along the way.
Rome wasn't built in a day as they say and this will take time. But I, along with a multitude of fans are fed up with negative back-to-front tactics and i'm prepared to take the knocks along the way in our pursuit of quality football. I hope other die hard Reds like myself agree.

Paul,Staffs.

Great post !

Possible Ins- Sahin and Dempsey + replacements if players leave

Possible Outs -Adam, Spearing, Carroll, Downing, Cole, Pacheco, Doni, Jones

No sources just what I've gathered from the site. Would you say that's about right Ed's or Readers?

Would love some Thoughts.

Brendan Rodgers says he expects sahin deal including paperwork to be completed Tomorrow but I don't think he will play until at least arsenal and eds a question is he injured or not at the moment thanks
GAM {Ed001's Note - Sahin? Not that I am aware of.}

Surely u must know he is coming to us now Ed?
TR {Ed019's Note - No, he means Sahin isn't injured }

24 Aug 2012 22:37:03
I just want to say that I'm happy to see that there seems to be posters on here with genuine sources. As well as the 'all knowing eds' we have....

Macca (who has got so much info correct on so many occasions that I don't have enough time to get it all in!)

And more recently.....

Maisey (who told us all that the Sahin deal was still happening, even though most believed that he was Arsenal bound)

Northeast Red (who told us that he has a source who is a former Newcastle/Sunderland player and that Adam Johnson would be going to Sunderland, even though that was far from being reported. I know its not directly LFC related but we have been linked with him quite a lot.)

Note:Northeast Red mate, remember your post from the 9th Aug... And I also remember you got a bit slated for it. Well done mate.

The point of my post is, there may be many so called 'ITK', 'Behind the scenes' 'has a source' ' ' 'you heard it here first' type of posters....but for all the fakes there may be a truthteller with vital info to share with us all.

Keep up the good work guys, and that includes you aswell eds

K.Bennett

Cheers mate now we know the genuin posters.

ED...though I am pleased we've almost sealed Sahin loan, and it confirms what Macca said all along, it does provide further evidence we're not a top club anymore. Generally, loan arrangements involve lesser clubs. On the other hand, if Sahin does make difference and provides the creativity we have lacked for so long, who knows...we could challenge for top four. Also, I see Sahin starting ahead of Gerrard with Gerrard coming on second half. I think BR realizes that Gerrard's impact isn't what it was but he could be more useful during the latter stages of a match. What's your take ED? {Ed001's Note - not true, it is only in this country that loans are seen as a sign of weakness. It is a good way to take a look at a player, or fill a gap in your squad until you can find the right player for the long term.}

I fully support the loan idea, if a player turns out not we expect we can opt not to buy or if he's good we can still bid to make it a permanent transfer.

If a loan helps you achieve top 4 (i.e. adebayor at spurs) then you can both make the loan permanent and have CL money to improve the squad.

It's time we start being more shrewd in the transfer market, rather than splash 20 mil on a player hoping he is as good as his hype (without naming names)

Shak Attack

I agree with the ed. I think its wrong to look at loans that way. Didnt Utd as champions loan Larsson. If Sahin helps us get 4th then its good business

24 Aug 2012 22:34:44
Seems like Macca was bang on again with Sahin.

If we're sticking to his thinking, Walcott and Dempsey are still potentials.

Can't see Walcott coming unless Carroll leaves though.

Could be a good window if Adam, Spearing, Cole and Carroll goes (not that I really think he should now) then Dempsey and Walcott sign.

That would give us a strong 6 in midfield and up top, with supporting youth from Suso, Morgan and Sterling.

Don't think the wage bill will be as high if you consider those that have already left.

24 Aug 2012 22:28:46
Hi please post in rumours.
Who would you rather have in your team?
Adam Johnson or Borini vote agree for Johnson.

As a life long red im sad we never brought him.

Redman 10

And the rumour you have is.......??

24 Aug 2012 22:18:28
so we will have a former brazilian player of the year, a former epl player of the year and a former bundesliga player of the year bossing our midfield and joe allen

thats pretty impressive

There is not many midfields better than Gerrard, Lucas, Allen and Sahin in the prem.

24 Aug 2012 22:03:06
First time post....Adam Johnson was the player i wanted us to sign more so that any other this season. The english messy lost for 12 million....gutted it not happen now...close to giving up hope for us this season.....bush.....

Hmm, please tell me you were joking....

The English messi ??!! Not seen much of him then. I despair!

Would've liked the lad but rumours persist hes trouble off the pitch

24 Aug 2012 22:14:19
So Fulham make an offical complaint to LfC over Dempsey so we might get into trouble for having an interest in him!?

Ed001, Your Highness, good to have you back. xD
Furqan. {Ed001's Note - I am always around mate, I just don't usually have much time to get involved as I cover all the sites. It is only when it is quiet or we have most of the compliment of editors around that I get to chat. Oh, by the way, it is Your Royal Highness, to be exact!}

I love you Ed001 {Ed019's Note - Don't we all? He started football rumours of course }

24 Aug 2012 22:09:46
Should ask spurs to swap VDV and 10m for Carroll

Reina
Johnson. Skrtel. Agger. Enrique

Gerrard Lucas Allen

Suarez. Van Der Vaart. Sterling

He can play the false 9 role

Bruno YNWA

He could do it for maybe 45 minutes. Guy is pushing Charlie for the least fit professional footballer award.

24 Aug 2012 21:17:46
Just out of interest, seeing as everybody has totaaly different ideas, lets see all ouf your starting XI's and subs benches, would be nice to see who would play who and where.

heres mine :-
GK Reina
RB Johnson
CB Skrtel
CB Agger
LB Enrique
CM Lucas
CM Allen
CM Sahin
RF Borini
CF Carol
LF Suarez

Subs:- Jones,Coates,Kelly,Gerrard,Sterling,assaidi

a bit too contraversial? no adam,downing,henderson,carragher??

RedMurd

Gerrard on the bench, Carroll and Sahin in the starting 11??
Not a chance! ;)
DeV

Gk reina
rb johnson
cb agger
cb skrtel
lb enrique
dm lucas
cmallen
cm sahin
rf gerrard
cf dempsey
lf suarez

subs
downing borini assaidi sterling kelly coates hendo adam

I really like that team RedMurd. With Dempsey battling with Borini; Shelvey as back-up for Gerrard/Sahin and Morgan as back-up for Carroll. Might swap Downing and Sterling around though, with Sterling getting more and more time as the season progresses. And I wouldn't have Enrique as a shoe-in either - he needs more competition. Another tactic I'd like to see, maybe with half an hour to go, would be to bring Kelly or Flanagan on and push Johnson further forward to replace Gerrard/Sahin/Allen.....

Coyle's Law States......

Gerrard in starting line up.

Reina
Johnson
Skrtel
Agger
Enrique
Lucas
Allen
Sahin
Gerrard
Borini
Suarez
subs - Jones, Coates, Kelly, Henderson, Assaidi, Carroll, Sterling

24 Aug 2012 21:17:06
well done Macca
Brenden - tick
Borini - tick
Allen - tick
Sahin - tick
Dempsey - ? - interested confirmed
Walcott - ?

you thought you adam johnson , but yer stuck with a downin out !

Brilliant, post of the day! Oh wait, it was crap, my mistake. Child

Downing > Adam Johnson

If Johnson was any good, he wouldn't have signed for Sunderland. Badly overrated, one trick pony.

Not a rumor but bang goes the 'johnson as part of agger to city' theory... Nice bit of fantasy

24 Aug 2012 21:10:56
hello red's and ed's

I was wondering what team do you think we will play this season once the transfer window is shut, including sahin. Also is it likely for us to sign a striker?

Thanks

24 Aug 2012 21:58:34
hi Ed, we seem to have no plan or structure in the way we have been recruiting players this transfer window.

Is it for the following reasons?

1) We do not have money to enter the transfer market at the level required to make big improvements?

2) Brendan Rodgers cannot attract the players we require to improve?

Seems that some of Camoli's signings are starting to make an impact, Raheem Sterling for example? {Ed001's Note - erm well as you don't even know that Sterling signed before Comolli joined the club, I won't worry too much about your criticisms of the club.}

Got to get your facts right posting on here otherwise you'll just get shot to pieces ! There are lots of knowledgeable people out there.

There is a chance that Liverpool players need to be even more careful in the future now that David Gill is nominated for the commitee in UEFA.

Alread ManU chairman and FA something something.
This could be fun....

;-)

That will not make man utd win CL or win EPL again. I think Chelsea win it this year.

I think lfc thats why i support them

I am doing a charity fun run in Cardiff tomorrow for the Stroke Association. Just wondering, if you don't mind, if I can put up my Just Giving page to see if anyone wants to donate to a very worthwhile cause. All money goes direct to the charity.

Any amount is 100% worth it from 1p to £1000 (never know your luck!)

http://www.justgiving.com/TristanLloyd1980

Many thanks to anyone who donates or maybe raises a little cheer at 11am to see if I can beat my 5k record and get under 20 minutes!

Thanks :)

24 Aug 2012 21:28:21
You guys said LFC would sign that Johnson fella. Ha Ha you really have no clue. Keep the speculation coming. Fun to read.

Derek from Boston {Ed001's Note - which guys? I don't remember ever saying it, we tried in the past, but this time around he made it plain he wanted to go back to the North East.}

Hey Derek the clown, Johnson is such an over-rated player, moody, greedy, lazy etc. The vast majority on here didn't want him, those that did also castigated the signing of Joe Allen and thus proved they were clueless...just like you. Keep taking the tablets sonny boy

Flagg

One of the eds just made a you tube video about him. What would be the point of that if you didn't think you were going to sign him? {Ed001's Note - he likes to make videos! It was nothing to do with us signing him or not.}

Yes, because the targets you've given us are the 'real' ones. Put up or shut up, Derek in Boston. {Ed019's Note - You're an idiot, those transfer target videos are just to give Liverpool fans an idea of the types of players we are linked with, the players that are targets, whether they sign or not. I would love to see you find a post where an ed says Johnson will definitely sign}

24 Aug 2012 22:01:04
Anybody else finding the 'another target missed' posts, when anybody...literally, signs for any club, other than ours, a little monotonous yet?

The Rev

Spot on mate... It's pathetic...

Stevie.

Yeh. Its a boring comment.
A bit like this one really.

24 Aug 2012 21:59:14
any chance we could sign Adam Johnson from Sunderland? I hear he hasn't settled in properly yet..

24 Aug 2012 21:54:28
Eds when is the signing gonna be announced? Thanks. {Ed001's Note - I would expect it to be after the weekend, paperwork won't get processed until then. We usually wait until the deal is fully completed before announcing, purely because there could be complications with the paperwork etc which make you look silly. I remember one German team announced a signing, the next day the player joined somebody else and they were a laughing stock.}

Mo Johnson was the best example, back in 1989 - when he posed in Celtic shirt and then signed for their deadliest rivals....!

Coyle's Law States.....

24 Aug 2012 21:52:45
Ed1 mate when I saw Adam johnson first time I was wow what a player coz he is only english player after long time who could dribble had pace and could pass deffenders like fish in water he had masive. Pontential then something went wrong at city I just hope he should regain his mojo mate coz he can be world class player and one of my favourite english player after legend Gerrard {Ed001's Note - I remember him at Boro as a kid, I saw him training and he was head and shoulders above everyone else. It is a shame his attitude hasn't matched his talent, he lacks professionalism off the pitch, doesn't train hard enough and I really can't see him reaching the heights he should.}

24 Aug 2012 21:51:51
AJ has signed for Sunderland - shame we couldn't get him but thank god that the story is at an end... I was getting sick of it.

24 Aug 2012 21:50:11
Johnson goes to Sunderland, thank goodness for that!

Sahin in very soon and hopefully we can add Dempsey, Walcott and Sturridge and I'll be one happy chappy

Shak Attack

Funny that were only going to go in for sahin and Dempsey from that list. I assume you'll still be happy

24 Aug 2012 21:48:54
sahin will sign tomorrow.where do you expect him to play?I don't think he'll play as a CM because we just spent 15m on Allen who deserves a place in the starting 11 in my opinion as well as lucas and gerrard.

Gerrard will drop out

And if lucas and gerrard are injured for example (that was the case last season), won't you be glad to have a world class player in your squad to replace them or would you rather have spearing ?

24 Aug 2012 21:48:24
Anybody else think the team will play so much better after sahin and Dempsey sign?
Drop gerrard and downing, stick Dempsey in the front 3 and sahin in gerrards position.
Save gerrard for big games when he can be bothered and only play downing when he gets his confidence back.

I was reading what ed001 was saying about gerrard earlier. We should of sold him 2 years ago in hindsight. I fear we are now stuck with him until he retires.
His ego is holding the entire club back now.
Rodgers needs to put him back into his place.

MIKEY

Are You for real?

Sorry mikey but every team in world football
would love to be "stuck with gerrard"
just because he was poor against west brom
does not mean hes for the nackers yard.

red jay

How is his ego holding the club back?? Ridiculous thing to say!! Absolute legend!!
Tommy.

Gerrard's ego is holding the club back how? Just a ridiculous statement, with little or no factual evidence to back that statement up.
If we weren't so close to Sahin signing and working out 4 into 3 don't fit so see you later Mr Gerrard, I very much doubt you would've said something so downright ridiculous, disloyal and plain stupid.Oh and did I mention the lack of box actual facts to back up such a crass statement. In brown nosing Ed001 I fear you've come out with a post you may regret.
Very surprised at you MIKEY.
Jonson {Ed001's Note - sorry but you need to wake up, you are being sentimental because he was a great player for us. Now he is a great player for England, but half the player for us.}

You my friend are an person. "Gerrard is holding US back"?? If anything WE have held that man back for years! He deserves alot more respect than that for what he's done for this club!! The guy is a legend of the highest order!

Delboy

But how will Downing regain his confidence if he's not playing?

It's because AC has only been getting 10 mins every other fortnight that his confidence has been shattered.

Coyle's Law States......

The point is this...Gerrrard, Sahin, Allen, Lucas, Adam (if he stays), Spearing (ditto) and Shelvey will be utilised as and when for the 70 games we could play this season.
Our squad is looking stronger now.
Anyone who can't see that Steven Gerrard isn't still an important part of our re-generation is, quite honestly, blind or stupid.
The players the supporters are lifted most by are Sterling, Carroll and Gerrard (warming up/ coming on etc.)
They all promise something different.
Big games v Chelsea, Everton, the Mancs, Spurs etc. need a Gerro to set the passion-level. Besides, he'll be awesome alongside Allen, Sahin and a rejuvinated Lucas Leiva.
ANFIELDPETE

Ed001,whilst accept folks are entitled to their own opinion's on players, and can differ sometimes wildly.
I can't or at least find it hard to accept a statement so scurrilous in its accusations it makes my bleed when I read it. Add to that its made without any facts at all to back it up. You could well know something we don't re Gerrard. But does MIKEY? think we all know the answer to that one.

24 Aug 2012 21:46:59
Do our businessmen train at the slow business academy? They seem well trained in dragging out a deal. Sahin where is he? Waited all day. Rodgers said 24 hours last night. Well that's up now. If these same businessmen are on the case for the new stadium, then we may not see it in our lifetime. The GT

Deal cannot be finalized until Tuesday due to bank holiday. Do not expect anything till then and be patient we are getting all our targets albeit slowly. Better than not at all.

I also once played the "manager" option on FIFA 10. You bid for a player one week and he's yours the next.
If you play on the "easy" level you can, like me, sweep the board and only concede a handful of goals (bit like Liverpool in the eighties).

i would just like to say I am very pleased for Macca he call the transfer of Sahin long before anyone els am sure people would have got at him if he had not got it right witch would have been wrong he is only doing his best to give us all the info he can thanks mate keep it up we aprishiate it. As regards to the transfer window it shows it dosent matter how much you are in the know, things can change fast, The selling clubs, players and espesioly agents are very fickle specialy when a better offer is put forward. It is not the fault of anyone who has genuin info it is the money grabbing player and agents that spoil it now adays

Some fans are too quick to get on the managers back and find the negatives in every situation possible... How is this going to help?!
First the majority were impressed with Rodgers' start to life as manager yet we then lose one game and the opinions seem to have totally changed!
Then a player like Adam Johnson is linked all summer and fans constantly have said he isn't good enough for the club and so on... But when he joins another club suddenly it's a 'chance missed' or wasted!
The negativity isn't needed, give the guy and chance and I'm sure he'll prove good - after all he did say he can't bring instant success it will take time!
Have some faith in the guy who clearly has been put in charge for a reason.

The rubbish we have bought over the last 18 months and we don't even look at adam Johnson. Heard today we are a mid table team and at this moment I do not disagree!

Fact is Adam Johnson is definitely no improvement on what we have

ANYONE ELSE WORRIED ???

We once again seem to miss out on or don't bid on the right players !!
We clearly/desperately need a proven goalscorer & quality wide players, yet we persist in signing centre midfielders (Allen, Sahin). Our first priority this window should of been a striker.
I can see another disappointing season of missed chances, we are falling further & further behind the top teams. Top 4 seems a long way away, which is sad as LFC should be looking at 1st !
I hope Im wrong ! {Ed001's Note - if you are talking about Johnson, he was always going to go to Sunderland, he wanted that move.}

Remind me again where borini plays

Obviously he no longer has any ambition, no offence to Sunderland

Can't believe you've got your knickers in a twist over Johnson?

Sorry not a football related post! But eds have you ever thought of having a agree/disagree after both our posts and eds responses? As i keep finding myself agreeing with you eds n not the poster or vice versa! Sorry if you have had this idea before but any chance? Would love a response as i think a lot of posters would to like this or not! What you guys think?
HARDY1892 YNWA {Ed001's Note - yes we have thought about it. I believe it is on the to do list, just behind Salma Hayek, so it will arrive as soon as we can find the time. Though I fear Salma might have to wait a bit longer, I know she will be gutted by that!}

Thanks ed001! Might be a dumb question but what is salma hayek? I think i have missed something! Haha!
HARDY1892 YNWA {Ed001's Note - Salma Hayek is an actress mate.}

Salma hayek...get in line eds.

Just saw headline on BBC Website that Johnson has signed for Sunderland so that end of that rumour. Any comment Ed's.
Gratz on site - been watching with interest {Ed001's Note - the lad wanted to go home.}

24 Aug 2012 20:50:36
Surprised Adam Johnson signed for Sunderland, thought he would be a great player for us if we signed him.

Dore89

We obviously didn't want to. I hope the whole 'another one we missed out on' nonsense doesn't start now.

24 Aug 2012 20:49:41
Oussama Assaidi trained with the squad for first time today... I'd so love to know what Gerrard and Carra think, first impressions.

I'd rather know what the manager and coaching staff think...

Do know about gerrard but carra does a great john bishop

Who cares what Carra and Gerrard thinks, its what Rodgers thinks that matters.

Who cares what they think!? Their views and impressions are just as important and any other member of the squad. What really matters is what Brendan Rodgers thinks of him.

Who cares what gerrard and carra think, gerrard and carra need to both do one, they are whats holding the club back!!

Its what the fans think that matters they make the player fit in.red mick tag

I wanna know why he isnt in the squad to face man city more importantly

24 Aug 2012 20:49:03
ed has something happened to the sahin deal as rodgers said we should know within 24 hrs...and as we are the only ones in for him it shouldn't take so long right?

Obviously i could be reading too much into it and i know it takes a long time...just hoping nothing goes wrong 'cause he is a great player.

Cheers {Ed052's Note - paperwork etc. Dont worry}

Will he be presented tonight or just tomorrow
????
thank you

Frici {Ed001's Note - the paperwork can only be dealt with in office hours, so I wouldn't expect him to be presented until next week. Though it has been known for players to be presented ahead of the completion of the paperwork, we don't tend to do that.}

Is he (Sahin) likely to be at the game on Sunday ?

24 Aug 2012 20:47:09
Johnsons gone to Sunderland, is that another missed target or has BR got something up his sleeve?
G

BR has an ace in the pack yet AJ was never a realistic choice, whilst he does have all the technical ability hes not got the raw pace we crave up front

Your missing oneee moreee option bud

See you dodged a bullet with Adam J going to Slumberland.Hope we dodge the Andy C bullet if not those two will boost the shares in the NE late night boozing joints.
Please keep reminding Rogers that there is no way he will let Carroll go to NUFC.

Debate:

Should we sell Reina?

He was a top keeper but for the past few years he seems to have lost form and doesn't look the player he was when he first joined. I think since the likes of macsherano and Torres left he has looked pretty disinterested at the club (only an opinion).

Reina is still at an age we could get a good price and perhaps a new keeper would be good to freshen up the team.

Thoughts?

Durham red

Keepers play into their late 30's to early 40's and dont slow down like outfield players due to age, I would be inclined to keep Reina until 33-34

Would require that someone be interested first. Assuming that was the case (which I don't think it is), then sure if the price was right. As I recall, he's on pretty high wages too, so the possibility could exist that we get a suitable replacement, some cash, and reduce the wage bill.

Sorry, but you've typed a bit of madness there mate.

SpudRed

Although I agree he has looked far from his best recently he is still one of the best about.
I think losing a keeper of reinas reputation and influence will have a destabilising effect on the defence. At least while the new one beds in.
The defenders won't have full confidence in the new keeper right away. Just like de gea at united.
Even if we got a world class replacement even better than reina it might still mess us up.
We have weaker members of the squad that need replacing before reina anyway.
If I had to sell all but one of our starting 11 it would be reina I would keep.

MIKEY

Reina is a class keeper and I am surprised that he has stayed so long. What keeper is a realistic replacement for Pepe? He is in the top 5 or 10 keepers on the planet.

looks we wont be signing adam johnson,hes signed a four year deal at sunderland.how many do u think we will sign before friday,i think we need 3

What do you mean looks like

Sahin, dempsey and a striker

24 Aug 2012 20:44:23
Hi eds. Sunderland have signed Adam Johnson from Manchester City for an undisclosed fee and he has agreed a four-year contract. So now who do we go for, Walcott? LFC lover {Ed052's Note - Dempsey. We never went for him. We Cannot sign everyone}

24 Aug 2012 20:44:19
Eds, what are the chances of a late announcement of the Sahin signing tonight?

RedKopite {Ed052's Note - No chance}

24 Aug 2012 20:43:33
Adam Johnson has gone to Sunderland. Thoughts?

My first thought is that he has gone to Sunderland

Brilliant player and will surely go on to be one the countries best wingers with a bit more playing time under his belt - but it doesn't necessarily mean he would of turned out good for us as we've seen with Downing who is a very similar player.
Personally think we were better giving that one a miss!
Redjoe96

I take it Thoughts is a German winger we are being linked with.

Hi folks, my uncle told me about this site in the states cause he says he finds it very amusing about all the player speculation that will be signed for the team. Now I have glanced through some of the names and can tell you guys that the players that FSG are considering are not the same guys your wishing for. You have 1 guy right that still maybe signed but the others guys I never heard of. I also have a question and that is who are these ed guys? Are you like some kind of analyst and work for Liverpool FC or what?

Derek from Boston

Is tis fella trying to imply the ed's play with their arses? and who's his uncle? sam! kyb.

Then atleast tell us the names YOU know of?
And sign with a name,please.

WikingRedNor

So tell us then Derek who are the correct guys that FSG are trying to bring in? The eds or editors are the guys who run the site and edit our posts before they then put our posts up. They also give us an insight as they generally have sources of there own.

Editors for the site.

Yes it's uncle Sam and uncle Sam didn't mention any of the names your hoping to sign bar sahin dude.

Derek from Boston

Ah, Sir Derek the pointless murders the English language. Two cultures separated by the same lingo. Go to bed you creep

Flagg

Derek, you are a clueless halfwit. So what you are telling all of us who are not fortunate enough to live in the states, half a world away from Anfield, is that you guys have more knowledge of what is going on at LFC then people who have contacts within the club itself.

Please American cousin pay no heed to my fellow compatriates for they but jest.

Adam Johnson signed for Sunderland on 4 year deal, so at least them rumours can stop!

24 Aug 2012 20:33:51
From a scout who enquired about Rafael van der Vaart joining their club in the north east. He got told Liverpool are interested in van der Vaart once Andy Carroll is sold.

I also posted that Sunderland would be getting Adam Johnson weeks ago, that source was from an ex Sunderland/Newcastle player.

Northeast red

If Van der Vaart leaves Spurs he will go to Germany. The only reason for him leaving is to cut down his wife/childrens travelling time as she spends a lot of time in Germany working.

Watching the game again and noticed that Rodgers adjusts his tie all the time just like Oliver Hardy of Laurel and Hardy.

"Well, here's another nice mess you've gotten me into!" LOL

Evered

Im a little ashamed I remember that

You should be more ashamed that you actually said it!

He has a habit of giving the thumbs up to the players

You should be even more ashamed to admit that you actually saw it or are using the word 'tie' as a pseudonim for another part of the body?

24 Aug 2012 20:04:58
For everyone saying Sterling should be starting, you need to realise something. The lad is very talented with a huge future ahead of him. But he is 17 years old, he is still developing as a person and a player. He needs to gain experience. It's great watching him on TV or at the game and he's great on the ball but it's not just that. He needs to develop his understanding of the game, the ability to read the game and his positional play. That will come for sure, but throwing a 17 year old kid in against some of the best footballers in the world could be suicidal. If he makes a game changing mistake he won't be able to hold his head high, he will have people on his back(anyone who says that's not true read the posts below). Bring him on as a sub, build the confidence, gain the experience and understanding and this kid is going to be seriously good. Cheers all CoachCarter

If you're good enough, you're old enough! Get him in the team he scared hearts to death!

So what's your point?

Yeah we don't want a ramsey scenario.

Although i'm the first one to post here that sahin has made another U-turn i'm afraid if sahin's saga doesnt end today we might not get him .. please eds i just wanted to know whats the situation with pacheco? and is there any chance we could get falcao ? we really need a top goalscorer now more than any player as borini isnt ready enough for the tough EPL

24 Aug 2012 20:02:02
Hearts here again.

Don't know why I'm taking the bait with the comment 'We've never signed anybody from your mickey mouse club'.

So?

Like most clubs of our stature - our 'Greats' tend to be home-grown before becoming somebody else's 'Greats'.

So Dave Mackay, born and raised in a mining community in Edinburgh and a Hearts fan - became probably the best player to ever play for Spurs. Similarly Alex Young became one of Everton's best ever players - raised just miles from Tynecastle.

And Graeme Souness originally trained with Hearts as a youngster, went to Tynecastle to watch Hearts and was raised in a housing scheme just west of Tynecastle.

I know my club isn't of the stature of Liverpool and will now rarely produce players that will grace the Premiership, but easy on the mickey mouse stuff. The near £200m Liverpool 'B team' huffed and puffed against our kids. I think we won the battle if not the game.

And you think the fans were up for it at Tynie, wait til you here the bedlam next week from your away end.

Our motto? Blood Doesn't Show on a Maroon Jersey.

Hearts.

200 million B team? Reina (£6m) Robinson (hg) Kelly (hg) Spearing (hg) Carragher (hg) Skrtel (£7m) Shelvey (£2/3m) Sterling (£800k) Adam (£8/9m?) Hendersob £16m) Borini (£10/11m).

But I do have to respect the atmosphere at Tynecastle as it was one of the best I have heard in years! And the fight from your young lads was second to none! But I would expect to much at Anfield, different team and Rodgers will know what to expect. Good luck though pal.

BillShanks {Ed001's Note - Shelvey was less than 2m and Adam 7.5m mate.}

Mate wait til you hear the away fans? Wait til you hear Anfield. I think you have underestimated just who we are.

Great post. Your team did you proud and so did the fans. Looking forward to the rematch at anfield.

SpudRed

Blood also doesn't show on a red jersey you melon

I was quite impressed with hearts and their fans last night. Pity that your constant attempt at irritation on here leaves me with a less favourable opinion.
Do your club a favour and leave the talking to be done on the pitch, sing your heart out and then you can head home proud win, lose or draw.
Red Derry.

Good luck hearts , the days of the fantastic scotish players are now gone sadly, lfc had their share of them and we would not have the history we have with out the scots at anfield.red mick tag

Respect, Hearts. Denigrating other clubs is not the LFC way, never has been, never will be. Whoever said that about Hearts is not a real Red, ignore him/her.
Good luck next week (although I hope we can get our act together then). Cheers.

Why are you still talking about it? We beat you

Eds, please answer this. When is the soonest Sahin could be announced? What chance is there that he may not join after all? I know you probably hate people like me, just asking a load of questions that you answer every half an hour, but I'm just wondering if there's any updates.

24 Aug 2012 19:53:12
i'm just wondering ed (whichever) what do you actually make of downing, hendo and adam.
I'll admit that they didn't have the greatest seasons last year, however i think that they are coming under an unfair amount of stick from posters on here and are really the scapegoats for fans due to us underachieving in the league last season. Just like to hear your thoughts.
derryred {Ed052's Note - Great players. Downing and Adam need confidence. Hendo needs that, time and support}

Totally agree Ed. we need to support these guys and they will eventually deliver.... remember Lucas, you doubters !

Former Besiktas official Hulusi Ozdurmaz said he can see the Besiktas board accepting a bid from #LFC for Ricardo Quaresma if at right price

24 Aug 2012 19:24:48

KIRDI {Ed052's Note - That is just ridiculous. It's not worth posting}

24 Aug 2012 19:24:02
If/when we get Sahin I would like us to make a bid for huntelaar. I don't think that we have any interest at this time but he is a proven goals scorer and used to play alongside Suarez which would help.

What do you think eds, reply would be great thanks. {Ed001's Note - not a chance, no pace.}

24 Aug 2012 18:39:52
Hi eds, would be great if you could give us a summary of what you think may be happening over the course of the next week as we approach the last week of the transfer window. Appreciate that names may not be public knowledge as Liverpool are keeping all transfer dealings close to their chest but using your contacts it would be good to get your views.
Cheers
Red Nick {Ed052's Note - I think Dempsey, or another striker and Sahin. Then any of Adam, Spearing and Cole could go. Carroll may, or Agger which would kick it all off]

24 Aug 2012 18:17:53
Hi ed052,
Don't you think it is dodgy having Carra as our 3rd choice CB? He is well past it and Coates or Kelly would be MILES better than him
Thanks {Ed052's Note - Yes, Coates should be 3rd choice, then Sama, then Wisdom IMO.}

Kelly should be 3rd

24 Aug 2012 19:38:12
Looks like the Sahin Saga has one more twist .Sahins agent has asked Wenger and BR to play first to 5 paper rock scissors as he can not make up his mind.Good news is BR has a chapter on this in his 180 page dossier.

24 Aug 2012 19:36:46
hello eds wen did rodgers say more on sahin in the next 24 hrs {Ed001's Note - in his pre-match press conference.}

Post-match, wasn't it? Either way, he meant 'we' as in the club and player would know within 24 hours. We'll know once the paperwork office opens up again on Monday.

SpudRed {Ed001's Note - he spoke about it again today mate.}

24 Aug 2012 19:30:43
Some people are asking why we are going to pay more on wages to Sahin that what we would have paid to Sigurdsson. Simple, because Sahin is far better. I'm delighted that Sahin could be coming to Liverpool, him along with Lucas and Allen would make a very handy midfield indeed. This is some of the business that LFC have done in recent years, Sahin will improve us a lot. If we can add Dempsey to our squad we will have landed some quality players at a very reasonable price.

Rafa's Purple Goatie

24 Aug 2012 19:18:21
Why has Assaidi been left out of the provisional squad for sunday's match against city?

How do you know this?
TT

Maybe he needs to settle in as today was his first session with the first team

Its in the daily mirror s preview of the game

24 Aug 2012 19:18:17
with sahin,allen coming and we already had lucas spearing henderson adam gerrard shelvey.
thats 7 midfielders,i think we will sell spearing.
our back 4 is solid but we should invest in a central defender.
and i hope we invest in a right winger,and if carroll should reinvest that money into a striker.

johnson
kelly
quates (still young)
agger
skrtl
Carra(cant handle young pace strikers anymore)
enrique
robinson(young but has talent)
flanagan(to light)

lucas
henderson
gerrard
allen(very good buy)
shelvey( young talent)
adam(to slow for me)
sahin
spearing(love him but not lfc quality)

borini
suarez
sterling
assaidi
caroll
downing( will be replaced next season)

this list is looking pretty good if we get another winger and defender we could fighting for the top 4.

one last thing i would like to say is that the last few days there were remarks about gerrard and i agree he is getting older and will play less matches and be less dominant.
but we must never forget that he could have left us several times and made much more money than he gets at us.
he never took the bait,we should all respect him for that and all the great moments he has given us in the past,and hopefully future.

Never heard of Quates but he sounds sketchy.

Also sounds like an excercise used by females to tone their quiff muscles.

24 Aug 2012 19:13:51
I believe loads of people are not happy with sahin loan deal which should cost Us around 5 million a year but I work in financial sector and I can tell you once financial fair play rules kick in then loans will play bigger part...for example would you have preferred Andy Carroll on 8-9 Million a year loan including wages or 35 million nd then 4 year wages on top...which meant we are out of pocket nd got player we got to pay unless we get rid of....loaning a player means we haven't paid much upfront nd if player doesn't work we are wages free after loan period nd our finances looks better...only risk is we lose player after year but again we can have 2-3 loans a year then paying someone like Henderson 20 million nd get stuck with it..
Harry oldbury

And people still say lfc are still a big club,no staff of their own just subbies and agency staff llf

24 Aug 2012 19:09:32

Eds......not a rumour but why dont you start a LFC forum on this site with adverts for paddypower/ladbrokes ect to help finance it {Ed001's Note - we already run ads, they make very little and is there really a need for another forum?}

I think I speak for everyone when I say this, it would be nice to receive notifications when our posts get replies somehow, maybe creating small profiles and accounts for everyone would be the answer to taking this website forward. I hope so, I really do.

Daniel Narciso YNWA

Yes there is Ed. You get thrown of RAWK for giving an honest opinion about performance and get extra bonus points if you love Rafa. Apart from that the others are toss.

Brooksey1973

Im a multi millionaire how much do you need to keep this website up? {Ed001's Note - if only mate! I will have a look into setting one up, as so many people seem so keen, we were considering doing something along the lines of people being able to log in to post on the sites. The difficulty is that we are trying to make it so your log in will work on all of our sites, so you can wander between the sites without having to create a new profile for each site. One of the main things that make these sites work, is the fact that they aren't limited to just fans of your own club. It adds a different perspective when a Sunderland fan, for instance, can just pop on and give a comment about how the team played. We were working on it starting with the Player Profile site, but other changes we needed to make have held up work on it. It wouldn't be a forum as such though, just a way of making sure you don't have some idiot using your sign off and so that people can look back at what you have said easily and find out if you really are ITK or not etc.}

24 Aug 2012 18:51:31
maybe gerrard should start putting a bit of effort in, his performance saturday was awful, actually pretty much for 3 years he has been below par,(hatrick aside) he should be dropped, maybe then he can up his level

what you think liverpool eds?

majestic69 {Ed001's Note - I think he still has the ability to play, but he has been coached into holding back his effort to make sure he can last the full 90min. I would have sold him two years ago, when he would still have gained us a decent fee, plus we would have saved the big money from his wages and allowed our managers to manager, rather than let Stevie continue to run the club.}

Yea agree with that , like you see him just strolling around against west brom with his hands lon his hips, but now against man city he will up his effort maybe. think we need another captain on the pitch agger if he stays ed??tanx

majestic69

Well said ed , to use a pun you have just hit the nail on the ed ??

alan waddle

And furthermore - you ask mr Rodgers what he he thinks of Steve G and I know who's side he will be on.
Gazman

Couldnt disagree more!

What a load of rubbish .

Jamesy

I really think people are making too much out his performance against West Brom.

I know we're used to him hitting 20 a season under Rafa, but he played too deep to do that more often than not in the last couple of years. He didn't let us down at all last season, imo.

Yeah, he's 32, but Giggs was still a top player at 32, wasn't he?

- Something Red -

Ed you say that now but think of the fans' reactions had we sold our best player 2 years ago just before were to go on that horrible run with hodgson

The fans would have gone mental {Ed001's Note - I know, but it is why we have fallen so far, hanging on to players for sentimental reasons is never a good thing.}

Ed001 I totally disagree with you comment about selling Gerrard . Fair enough he has underperformed for the last few season but he has inspired are team when the club needed him to! Nothing against you mate I just had yo express my opinion .
Jake {Ed001's Note - no worries, but I fail to see what inspiration he has provided lately?}

Good evening ed001 , was interested in the comment you made with regards Steven Gerrard,one thing that has struck me is that in the past few years it often looks like players are in awe of him or frightened to do something in case they get an ear full!
but ed is he honestly that influential around the club?
Boofs bro {Ed001's Note - yes, he is far too influential, in my opinion, sometimes it is hard to tell who is really in charge.}

Frightened of him more so than in awe seems the case to me. I just get the impressions that he's one of those people who could equal parts either kill you or give you a hug and you're never sure which it will be.

24 Aug 2012 18:40:47
Reports of Adam johnson to Sunderland is a done deal anybody else heard this ??

Yup its everywhere that he is in talks with them , but defo not a done deal

24 Aug 2012 18:24:20
The signing of Borini and Allen, Agger staying and a new contract for Skrtel, Sahin in on loan and best of all, Lucas fit and ready for the season. Add to this the potential of Kelly, Sterling and Robinson, the unknown quantity that is Assaidi, the fact that Downing, Henderson and Carroll can't possibly be that poor again (we hope) and a talented and technically gifted manager.

We have so much to be positive about! I'm looking forward to supporting the team all season - win , lose or draw!

Take it you didn't see the second half last week or the game last night, have to drastically improve I time for Sunday,

Nice post, spot on.

my friend works for a well known news paper,and he's let slip for very interesting info.With sahin about to sign followed by dempsey,expect to see daniel sturidge come in as well.Work is still ongoing with regards to tello,at the minute it's a 50/50 as to whether we can persuade him to join us!.Expect spearing,carroll,cole and possible downing(if we get 10m for him) to all leave.The manager knows these players aint good enough to play his style of football,hence why he's pushing for a rapid change in personnel.Mark my words exciting times are on there way!.

Let slip? If he works for newspaper they arent really known for sitting on their info and being descreet

How would he know all that if he works for a paper? They know about as much as joe public. Only people who know are those with connections to the club

Only problem I have with this- if a newspaper had all of this inside knowledge, would they not publish it? It is sort of what they do and all...

"He let slip" wouldn't he have let slip this to the paper

What ive gathered is that There is no option to buy with Sahin, rather a gentlemans agreement. Basically if real Madrid were to sell Sahin we would get first refusal.

M {Ed023's Note - That makes sense}

24 Aug 2012 18:05:21
More of a question than a rumour.
If we sign sahin and maybe dempsey as mentioned,are we likely to see a striker arrive before the window closes?.And who is likely to leave?. {Ed023's Note - Dempsey would play up front}

24 Aug 2012 18:02:17
hai ed..
people getting over exicited here with sahin deal..
yes he is an excllent talent...
but look at the bigger picture..no buy clause
wages over 100+..
i can see y arsene wenger did not buy him..
we are gonna improve his match fitness and give real a ready made new sahin?
or is that coz we missed gyfi and we wanted to buy someone?/
BR said we wont pay over the odds..
common paying 100+ for one seaosn? while gyfi demanded 80+..for life time?

I mean what does what does we gain here?
or was it better we would have bid for Mvilla...

ed can u juts put your thoughts on this? {Ed023's Note - Just watch the lad play, you will have forgotten all about the price etc when he performs}

5 million over all to give us a better chance of getting into the top 4.. Hmm I wonder If it's worth it? Of course it is your prob a bitter arsenal fan

If he helps us get in the top 4 who cares ??

Sign your name mr i want sahin out drip , he is class . exactly what we need....andy.

If he can help get us back into the top 4 then it's money well spent . Plus I think alonso will come home next summer so don't worry .

Jamesy

Good reply ed..i think he has not seen sahin play...once when you see sahin play you will know why we are ready to pay 100,000+ for him and didn't pay 80+ for sigurdsson

The deal is around 84k a week

We need players like Sahin on load to try to get into the top 4 or at least improve our league position. With a better position better players will want to sign permanently next year. Even if we had the money, top end players like Cavani, Hulk, Mvilla etc would never join us without the Champions League. You can buy the Hendersons, Downings of this world every year and always struggle to get back into the Champions League. Top quality players on loan, although an initial hit, will be better in the long run. I don't know about you but the bigger picture for me is not the fact Liverpool are spending more money, which most people want to see happen, but that they get back into the top 4.

If it helps us to top 4 spot you will also forget about the money, speculate to accumulate.

24 Aug 2012 17:40:02
I don't see the point in loaning that sahin if we don't have the option of a permanent move when the loan expires

Andy {Ed023's Note - We get a great player for the season and if helps us get top 4 maybe he might want to stay or if he goes back to Madrid we have extra income and cash to splash on better quality of player}

How can be it better quality player..wen sahin itself is??
the bottom line...
sahin will play for us one full seaosn..
gets his sharpnes...match fitness...and then move back to where he belongs......

24 Aug 2012 17:39:36
Eds if Nuri Sahin was to sign today, would you expect him to be involved in Sundays clash with Man City or possibly even start? Thanks.

Luke JFT96 {Ed023's Note - No. Deadline was midday for registering new signing. He is likely to make his debut against Arsenal. How ironic}

Deliciously poetic ;-)

Sid

Keep your eyes peeled for him this Sunday afternoon against City, LFC might have invited him over for the match, with intentions of giving him a medical on Monday. Its how it worked out for Joe Allen. I'm pretty sure it will have been suggested to Sahin and his agent.

24 Aug 2012 17:36:12
Although i'm the first one to post here that sahin has made another U-turn i'm afraid if sahin's saga doesnt end today we might not get him .. please eds i just wanted to know whats the situation with pacheco? and is there any chance we could get falcao ? we really need a top goalscorer now more than any player as borini isnt ready enough for the tough EPL
Esso {Ed023's Note - So you claim you're ITK and then ask questions on Falcao & Pacheco? Ask your sauce, he may know more...}

24 Aug 2012 17:35:37
A lot of people asking why we would take a player on loan with no option to buy.

Simple. We need top 4! If Sahin can help get us there this season then we can splash out for a top class player next summer!

Bring on 4th!!!

Ridiculous..if sahin help us to be top 4...y on earth we need to buy another player..
you are seeing a sentence from the other direction..

If we make top 4, we'd be a much more attractive proposition for players of Sahin's ilk to join us. Financially and having Champ League footy really will help us get players like Sahin join us on a permanent basis.So if the lad does indeed wanna go back to Madrid good luck to him. If he decides he likes it here so much he wants to stay beyond this season then that's all well and good as well. Win-win if you ask me.
Jonson

So does any one know what happening with sahin? Been looking all over for some good news but can't find ought.

Great site by the way. Cheers in advance {Ed023's Note - Be patient, the deal will happen soon}

Is it just me or are calls for Coates to be starting ahead of Carra on Sunday a bit premature...? I mean the guy is quality and has a lot of potential but a lot of fans on here are forgetting that he's a bit prone to be caught out of position and not clearing his lines fully. Give him a chance yes, but not against City. Not yet.

I can see BR starting Carra and Skertl on Sunday. Carra, really slow now and doesn't offer anything going forward, but still reliable. Makes more mistakes now yes but more reliable than Coates, for me. I hate how Carra deals with the ball though when he picks it up off Reina. Looks up, looks around, turns a few times before either hoofing it or passing it back.

All that said, Seb could start purely because of his height. City are a very tall side and aside from our defense, LFC are not overly tall.

Hard to know.

Ojay

There's pros and cons to be both for me.

Carragher- a tad slow, but generally adopts good positioning and won't likely make a mistake that will lead to a goal. Obviously a lot of experience at this level as well.

Coates- faster, taller, good header of the ball, but is prone to making mistakes which City will be well positioned to capitalize on.

For me it's a coin flip, but given Carra played ~60 hours before kickoff on Sunday, not sure his body will be up to 90 against MCFC.

I think carra will start because he played the whole game last night if BR was starting I think he would have played some part of the game . I do think AC will start too as he battered them not to long ago but he is also very good defensively .

Jamesy

Cara not playing on Sunday. No way would he have played for 90 mins on Thursday, Coates would have played.

Can't see Jamie playing Thursday and Sunday to be honest. Presume that's why Coates didn't play last night as he starting Sunday
Tommy.

Sentiment cost us last season and nothings going to change under Rodgers. Coates won't get a look in while JC's still cock of the changies

Danny Carey's tower of power

Sorry people I meant to say if BR was starting with Coates then he would have played some of the game . Sorry again

Jamesy

I'd expect Carra to start. I know he's not the player he was, but he's not exactly a poor player at the same time. The only real issue with him is that if he tries to play 40 a season at his age he'll be worn out by Feb and start getting caught for pace and energy.

Coates will be a good player, but I prefer to handle young defenders with kid gloves. They make one mistake and it could cost us a goal, which will damage the lad's confidence.

Whats Heskey doing sniffing around Melwood? Surely we are not going for him.

Think it's a good signing but only if we have the option to buy otherwise would rather money went on full signing of a player

24 Aug 2012 17:51:53
sahin wages 120/130k per week and liverpool are going to pay 70% of this +85-90k per week + a several million pounds loan fee unbeleivable!.liverpool are club in financial turmoil and are a long way from being out of the woods and its in the ballance if they will get out of the woods or not, yet throw money at a problem hand over fist,smacks of total despiration .i know exactly what the future holds for lfc exactly the same as that great club rangers fc. {Ed052's Note - We are not in financial turmoil. We are financial safe due to these owners. The deal all in will cost £5 mill, which is a steal}

Where has this financial turmoil come from? The basic knowledge of some Liverpool fans on here is horrendous.

BillShanks

Sahin is on £115k a week at RM. 70% of that is £80.5k a week that we're paying over 35 weeks of the season that's left.
That £2.8m in wages, and probably a £2m loan fee. £5m to use Sahin for a season. Sold.

Note: Kuyt and Maxi where on £80k a week, Aqua was on a bit more, Bellers not much less. We made room to pay a star player like Sahin.

SpudRed

That £5M might well be the difference between us being 8th again and 4th. A good bit of business I think and if it doesn't work out it's not a massive loss either (less than the Maxi and Kuyt's wages combined would have been for the year, I think).

Sounds like a miffed gooner to me.

Some people seriously need to look into the facts before posting. Number one fact: he hasnt signed yet

5 mill, if the loan helps us to 4th then we can attract better players next season and it will have been a brilliant move.

...and your financial qualifications on this matter are what exactly ?

Red Til Dead

Yet another un-named poster ranting absolute rubbish. Get the feeling its an Arsenal fan with a massive dose of sour grapes...

Stevie.

Ed i agree that FSG have really stabilised the club financially speaking but 5 mil for a season long loan deal can hardly be described as a steal

The owners got rid of most of the debt so please tell me how we are in financial turmoil, its just they r not fools as we all know a fool and his money are easily parted, so we havent the money that city have but who has. i think we are only 2 good signings away from a push for cl and if we get there we can build from that.Tommy Irish Red

2 major problems with this post
1st: Financial turmoil, really? I thought we were doing fairly well at the moment, wage bill significantly reduced and manageable death, if that's turmoil then I better sort my life out because I must be in financial meltdown at the moment
2nd: The words Ranger, Great and club should be only used in the same sentences in certain circumstances eg. That was a GREAT beating we gave RANGERS they're a pathetic CLUB.

Gman82

Ed052 carry on with deluded thinking fsg,s financial model has failed miserably they have already had to explain themselves to the investors as to why the financial model has failed .mark my words if fsg cant turn this around within the next 3 years its all over for lfc {Ed052's Note - No it hasn't. It's working well}

Ed am begining to think your one of those liverpool fans who has tinted goggles and deluded, your saying all in all the sahin deal is only worth 5 million yet arsene wenger as sain the deal that they would of had to pay was over 8 million and is to much for arsenal, we all know {except red goggle fans } that liverpool are paying well over what the arsenal were willing to pay so why are you saying only 5 million for his loan plus wages. {Ed052's Note - I'm not deluded - I just dont see any point being negative thats all. Negativeness and attacking the club doesn't help. 5 million for a world class midfielder for a year is a great deal}

The deal is a bargain..but common real are just using us...we need a buy clause on it...or else he will hit top form and move back to real..
a steal from them i guess

Possibly a bitter Gooner and not a Pool fan?

Ciario

I dont know about anyone else, but i'd rather loose Henderson than Adam. He does, at least, go forward, he gets involved, unlike hendo, who at times, is practically viscous. Would dearly love hendo to be a player, but nothing i've seen makes me think he will be. Keep faith with the manager, he at least deserves chance.

Muzmacol YNWA

Would rather lose them both. I know plenty of Sunderland fans and they couldn't believe it when we paid that much for him. Even then they said he was average

In all due respect to Charlie Adam, please tell me this is a joke.

Viscous? He has a thick, sticky consistency?! Deffo get rid then!

What a load of rubbish. Hendo will be a great player.

Ozone

Adam and spearing bye bye

Adam beta than Henderson haha what games have u watched?

It's pretty much an opinion game and your's is as valid as any, but I would disagree. Charlie is a decent player and it was arguably one of his better games last time out, but I still think he lack the pace/stamina required to be very effective. His corners/free kicks have been dreadful as well. I'd say he's more of a CAM versus Henderson's box-to-box style, but for a CAM his passing isn't the best nor is he very creative.

I see Henderson on the other hand as being potentially a very good player for us in more of a holding/box-to-box role. His work rate is excellent and by all accounts he applies himself very diligently in training.

Guess I just think Charlie has reached his level and isn't likely to improve whereas I think Henderson will.

Exactly..adam better than hendo...
adam..is useless...hendo isnt far from adam either..but cant be like adam...

Saying Hendo is bad is like saying your grammar is good.

do you think with Sahin , Allen and Lucas in the midfield that Gerrard may play the false #9 position that Fabergass plays for Barca ?

Guinnessred8 {Ed052's Note - No}

I suggest this midfield attack formation

------------lucas
-------allen------sahin
---gerrard----------suarez
------------borini

with luis and stevie given free license to roam and cause havoc

tom1975

I think BR may well play that way tbh Ed.
Skurks {Ed023's Note - I think when the window shuts a team of; Reina; Johnson Agger Skrtel Enrique; Sahin Allen Lucas; Gerrard Dempsey Suarez. I would like that very much}

I'd swap gerrard and allen around. Allen doesn't appear suited to deep lying role. just a thought.

Muzmacol YNWA

I'd put Gerard on the right side of the attacking 3

BR hinself said he tried it at Swansea a couple of times towards the end of the season...

RedKopite

Agree Ed023 that looks a real quality team capable of top four or maybe better...
Skurks

Are you joking Allen is perfect in the deep role dictating the play and starting off everything from midfield.

I don't think we will let Newcastle take the piss out of us to be honest. I would have Carroll stay has a plan B than sell him to Cashley on the cheap.I still think he might go to West Ham,on transfer window day

No country or club will want a player or a striker to score only goals from head??/
plan b??..there is only on plan..play and score goals with ur feet and head...thats called as a striker..
unfortuantly caroll dont fit this

RedMachine {Ed019's Note - Yes}

Ed019 you sound very sure?? i hope your right mate

eds are ye happy about sahin i know its a loan but hes a top player im delighted a striker now and with abit of luck top 4 or the 19th im dreaming {Ed019's Note - Yep}

24 Aug 2012 17:06:23
Hello eds and reds!

1.Hey is it true that Sahin is having medical?
2.Do you think there is a permanent move option?

Thanks
Aneesh {Ed052's Note - Maybe to the first, no to the second}

Well to be honest once he experiences a season at Anfield, why would he want to go anywhere else? Hell probably buy himself out of the 6 year contract he signed when he joined madrid.

You know its true

24 Aug 2012 17:08:06
Why are liverpool being linked with Walcott and Johnson - they're wingers that will cost £10million plus and a lot of wages - we are better of getting one of Scott Sinclair, Affellay, Matias Suarez or Narsingh

Or we wait and give sterling a go

Is Walcott a winger?

DaveyBootle

Suarez injured,narsengh sold to psv.affelay enjoys sitting on the bench waiting for messi to lose form.

24 Aug 2012 17:00:01
Hi eds! just wanted to know whether we have an option to buy Sahin at the end of the loan deal for 14m? {Ed052's Note - no}

Then whats the deal?? are we going to improve his performance for real madrid with paying 100+ wages to him...

Alonso will replace Shahin next year.

Hes a quality player that will hopefully help our push towards the top four (Champions league), if that is done then it seems nowadays you can attract better quality players. Its a stepping stone. The owners realise there is no quick fix. Sahin will vastly improve our team.

24 Aug 2012 16:59:20
hai ed...great site and excllent work..
i have a question?
are we paying over the odds for sahin?
him rejecting arsenal and signing us will only be of higher wages...
he was quality at germany..but..and do we have buy claus eat the end of the window?
arsene wenger is a very experienced person...
he wont surly miss someone like sahin for a simple reason?

pls explain.. {Ed052's Note - no}

So u mean to say..sahin will play only one season with us to improve his match fitness??
i mean that will take atleast 4-5 games...and then we pay 100+ wages for one season..
ed how much was gyfi asking?
80+..with 7 mill transfer fees..
whats happening??

It's a LOAN deal, the wages are preset as he is on the same contract as before. We may pay a higher proportion than Arsenal were offering but that benefits on Real Madrid. The player still gets the full amount, regardless of who pays what percentage.

Ojay

24 Aug 2012 16:54:28
if we can add Sahin,Dempsey,Johnson or Sturridge....we can look foreward to a decent season?

Can't agree more mate

24 Aug 2012 16:54:18
whats the latest on sahin eds? {Ed052's Note - Deal will be done soon}

How soon eds,are we nearly there yet!! lol {Ed023's Note - Rodgers said within the next 24 hours}

24 Aug 2012 16:41:26
Eds will Sahin be our last piece of business as i fill that we could do with a clinical striker someone that would get 20+ goals a season and i know that its going to be hard to find someone in that position that's not already playing for another top team. I think Suarez is a great player but his not that kind of player. Adam Morgan could be the player I'm talking about but his still very young with much to learn. We need the finished article now really if we want to improve {Ed052's Note - I dont think so}

24 Aug 2012 16:36:16
ed is the huntelaar to liverpool rumour true? {Ed052's Note - No, where do you hear them?}

24 Aug 2012 16:53:31
Eds: please post as more strategy than rumour.

What is our strategy?

I think it is fair to say Sabin is imminent with rogers public display and stating he was inside the lfc building this am.

Having watched a lot of Sahin he is a deep lying midfielder and keeps the ball relentlessly. Perfect joe allen partner and will destroy teams with ball retention....he talked a lot about positioning last night and management to keep the ball. These two have this!!

I see with Brendan's philosophy why he needs these two.

3rd person you would then think is Lucas?

Will Gerrard play further up field? Gerrard has stated he still has the legs and wants to attack.

Brendan is going 4-3-3 as we know his style. Suarez and two others needed.

Ray houghton has been on today stating we need more fire power and I couldn't agree more. Not sure on the strength yet of borini or prem experience and he really needs game time!

A winger certainly, left footed who can cut in from the right with goals (Johnson or Ramirez). Suarez moving from the left in a free role and a nimble forward down the middle.

These will be the two key factors to the success of our season.

JP

I totally agree with you mate. Think a middle three of Allen, Sahin and Lucas is the ideal trio.

As for up front, I would have thought that Borini in the middle with Gerrard and Suarez on either side of him. They can inter change. In Tiki-Taka, the wingers don't have to be touchline huggers, the emphasis is on possession, ball retention and movement. If this doesn't work, then the pitch is made wider by making players hug the wings more.

Borini is not a left winger, he needs to be played down the middle certainly. I don't see the problem with this as I think Suarez would be far more affective when he's not down the middle. He drops deep to impact the game and runs at the defense or makes in runs behind. Makes perfect sense to me for Borini to be the main man.

But I am not the manager and I don't watch the players train every day be able to say what it is best and what isn't! In BR I trust, he will know how to use the players effectively.

Ojay

Why don't they play an attack of

Boring or downing on left
Suarez through the middle
Gerard on the right

That's were Gerard scored most goals he's got in one season 2006

Great post JP. The exact thought I was having earlier.

Gerrard will definitely be playing more advanced with Lucas Allen and sahin as a 3.

So Suarez and Gerrard behind a prolific striker. I would love Borini to be good enough for this role. Time will tell but it would be a big risk not to get in a proven striker. It's a must!

Aldo

I would like to see gerrard play on the right , Suarez on the left , and an out an out goal poacher ( that's if Carroll goes ) or borini think he is going to play a big part for the club over the period of his contract

If we got Dempsey ( Carroll or a replacement ) borini , Suarez , gerrard plus young Morgan that's seem's very attacking for us throw downing an sterling in that mix we look proper strong going forward .

LB

Basically I just see it as us having lots of alternatives which is good thing.

It might be:
Sahin-Lucas-Allen
Gerrard-Borini-Suarez

or we could play

Gerrard-Allen-Sahin
Suarez-Dempsey-Assaidi

or many other variants to include Sterling, Downing, Henderson, etc.

Versatility is the key and Sahin (along with Dempsey, if he comes) as well as BR's other signings give us much greater flexibility than we've had previously.

Please Eds, can there be an auto-correct to insert "pass and move" every time somebody uses the awful term "pass and move"?

We were famous for this style of play way before it was re-written as a modern day statement.

Looking forward to Sahin and possibly Dempsey. If Agger stays i'd be happy with that concluding our biz.

reina
kelly Skyrtl Agger Enrique
Lucas Allen
Gerrard
Suarez Dempsey Borini

With Sahin, Assaidi, Carroll etc we will be strong

24 Aug 2012 16:47:11
Huntelaar to reunite with Suarez watch this space! Gerrard and sahin loading the assists ;-) the top 4 here we come

Ed if Sahin got injured playing for us would we have to still pay his wages in full, is it true Sahin is known for getting injured a bit, how much a week are we paying for him. {Ed019's Note - 84k p/w I think}

What if we bought a player for 30m and he got injured...duh

24 Aug 2012 16:34:58
anyone watched the mourinho interview about sahins deal?? hes got no preference as to where the player goes on loan he just wants him to have a year of premier league football to improve him as a player but no permenant deal will be part of the loan, he clearly says its a loan only then he will come back to play for madrid. good player but is there a point in loaning a guy who you then cant sign at the end of it? it looks likely to be us who he will go to as we have offered better terms financially to him and his agent though

Signing him on loan allows BR time to bring in similar players in the future, his wages are already set in his contract with RM, we've just agreed to pay a larger percentage of them, remember tax is higher here than Spain! Arsenal wanted an option to buy, sure we did to but our situations different to Arsenal we need quality players who can keep possession now! Ged

24 Aug 2012 16:34:36
No sources just what's on around the web.
Adam Johnson wants to stay in the north so Spurs out LFC and Sunderland to fight it out.
BR believes we have got Sahin,paperwork sorted etc expect announcement soon.
BR still after Sturridge plus could be a surprise signing.
Dempsey all gone quiet apart from tapping up allegations.
Mexican Hector Herrera could be joining us or Whiskey nose.
Only what I am reading around the web so don't shoot the messenger.

The thing is a lot of play goes to stevie, but br will have us playing more as a team, lets be honset , gerrard has been so good , maybe the other players just got used to giving him the ball more , and the other players need to be more conifdent in themselfs, plus we need to improve the actual quality of the players we have at lpool, which will take br a couple of more transfer windows to do , on the plus side our youth are getting better , .............lfc

Well frankly Durham Red dont take it personal but u lot really are poor
Liverpool plays when gerrard plays thats been the situation since the last 10 years and once stevie g is going through a poor spell u a come aloud moaning

Sorry input fields from rumours page rather than banter page

Not true this question was nout to do with his performance against WBA. Every player can have a bad game. It was based more on the past few seasons where players seem to go missing when gerrard plays but step up more when he has been out injured. Gerrard will always be a legend and it's not his fault other players leave everything down to him. However that is what seems to happen more often than not when he plays.

So the question is, if players continue to rely so heavily on gerrard when he is in the team then we may be better (as a team) if he isnt playing.

I realise this isn't fair on gerrard particularly but if it gets us better results then perhaps we should look into dropping him.

Durham Red has got a valid point. Some of us think it yet fear mouthing those words. Stevie looks complacent at times. A boss player mind and a hero of mine yet does tend to stroll lately. Ow, some people will not like that.

DaveyBootle {Ed001's Note - I honestly believe Paisley would have sold him two years ago.}

Carra although a legend he is now past it and should hang up his boots and go into coaching.

Vote believable if you agree

Unbelievable if not

Durham red

Maybe not past it..but coates shud play bfore him these days!

Definitely think Coates should play against city.

Maybe his legs are failing but the lad should not hang up his boots yet. A true committed player and a valuable member of the squad albeit not a guaranteed first team starter.

The game against Hearts.

I think Borini is a good quality player. I don't think he is the type of player to be the center forward in the 4-3-3 though. He put in a lot of work against Hearts and played the role to the best of his ability. The game against Hearts was my first opportunity to see Sterling in action. I was blown away by his skill, but more so, his confidence. How old is he, 17? A great talent. I also think we did what we needed to do away at Hearts. It was frustrating to watch at times, but toward the end, after the own goal, and after Hearts had run themselves ragged we seemed to do a better job of moving the ball. I also feel like the last few opportunities that Hearts had rest on the shoulders of Shelvey and Adam. The were either tired or didn't want to close down the shots. Either way they have to do better in those situations.

Looking forward to the season ahead. Great website. I visit daily but this is the first time I have posted.

Thanks,
Nater

I was impressed that he got into positions behind and between the two centre-halves. He's getting into the positions and will start to put them crosses away. Personally, i'm made up with him.

Sahin loan deal agreed according to yahoo eurosport.

Eurobot:

Rodgers on Sahin: "I believe, from the club, everything has been organised and sorted in terms of paperwork so we're hoping in the next 24 hours that can be done.

"He is a great technician. He was player of the season in Germany, captain of Dortmund and fantastic at a very young age.

"He got a move to Real Madrid and obviously through injury it has not quite worked out for him.

"But he is a wonderful player technically and tactically who understands the game and we hope his extra quality coming in will help the group."

hope so!!
Kop of the South

Great news Sahin us poised to sign. He is a real talent. So long as we have an option to buy him this is a smart piece of business. Once he experiences Anfield, the premiership and our support, I have little doubt that he will want to make his switch permanent. If he shows anywhere near the form he showed for Dirtmund, he will be a massive signing and will fit into BR's style if play. Once they have had time to bed in, Allen and Sahin will be a joy to watch. Reality Red

There isnt a deal to buy him, watch the mourinho intervie, he says hes not bothered who he goes to he just wants him to have a year in the prem to make him a better player physically then he will be back at madrid next season to play games, it is a loan and nothing else

Eds when you say you expect a striker, is that Dempsey you are referring to? If not do you know of actual interest in a striker?

Hey Ed's is there a specific time Sahin will have to be signed by in order to be in the squad Sunday?
Cheers

Ed why is everyone acting like sahin will choose us...he could still go to arsenal right?

A week to go and we need to strengthen innsome areas- need cover at left back, still think Borini is not thetop quality we need to bang in the goals so also a striker and still a right sided winger is needed.

Get rid of Adam Spearing and maybe Carroll and address these areas of the pitch

There's like a thousand of these very same posts every day. Is it just one person or does everyone here love repeating eachother...?

I have been right about Sahin so far this week so please post this....
His medical is due for Monday.
The assumption is the deal HAS definitely gone through.

On another note I believe any further Liverpool related activity will come at the transfer deadline including Andy Carroll, Jay Spearing, Jonjo Shelvey, Joe Cole and Charlie Adam with some out on loan and some gone for good.

Agger WILL stay.

I feel that the so called "firepower" hasnt been sourced yet, I remain hopeful for Dempsey or perhaps a BIG suprise on deadline day (somebody we have overlooked on these forums may get clinched!!)

Thanks, great site by the way

Deal won't go through until he has his medical

What's the hold up with this sahin deal?
Rodgers said expect news within 24 hrs, if he really wanted to come and play for Liverpool then he would of signed already......another player holding us to ransom yet again......I just hope we sign another striker, and sell jay spearing coz he's awful and it was proved last night, we looked a lot better when Allen came on for him

James

Ed am getting loads of abuse of mates saying were paying a fortune just for a year long loan deal for Sahin and paying 90% of his wages to...can you please explain what we are paying and how much in wages to,thanks ed. zico {Ed002's Note - Liverpool are paying a loan fee to Real Madrid and are paying an amount to the player which includes coverage for wages and "other costs". All in all this payment to the player amounts to around £5M.}

So Eds to clarify - do you mean on top of the loan fee and wages that we pay sahin 5m ? {Ed002's Note - The wages and "other costs" to the player equal £5M.

So Ed its 5 million pounds in total including wages. I thought so, some Arsenal fans banging about as 5 million loan fee + 3 million in wages. I guess just a little bitter. {Ed052's Note - Yes}

Mancini said: "I think Liverpool will fight for the title this season because they play well.

"They have bought new players, they have a new manager and they've changed their style of play.

"They are coming from a game at West Brom where probably they didn't deserve to lose, but football can be strange like this.

"A team can have problems in the first month, like all teams when they change their manager or players. But I think they [Liverpool] still have a strong team."
Mr.Mancini you have earned my respect
Harsh YNWA {Ed052's Note - haha, now we get relegated haha}

Its called mind games lad.

Mancini isn't under estimating us, he knows what we are capable of look at last season should of beat City and did in the cup. But tbh if we had that offer team would of won the league the one who's name i shall not speak of. Credit to him he is being very respectful not a lot of managers are to us now days.

I've always liked and respected Mancini. Got poor treatment in Italy until Inter were given the league after AC and Juve were done for match fixing. Then adored. He always has been a good coach, for me. Understands the game, good tactics, knows how to deal with opposition well.

Its classic Mancini tactics to build up the opposition and relieve the pressure on his own players. Dont listen to a word he says.

Yeah he also said he thought Rooney and Van Persie was a better strike pairing than Aguero and Tevez.
Anyone else see what he's doing?

Can't stand the guy. Constantly moaning on about how his club isn't doing enough for him to succeed. Cry me a river, Mr. Mancini- pretty much anyone could manage a team like that with the budget you've had.

Dont think Shelvey ,Adam,Henderson,Downing,Spearing will ever be good enough for lfc...shelvey was by far the worst player on the pitch last night! {Ed052's Note - Shelvey is good enough. Bad game last night. Adam played better, and Hendo has shown what he can do. Give them a chence please}

Oh ye im willin to give them a chance but theyre not gonna be good enough.

Thats why Henderson played really well even when out of position and downing came on a made an impact helping young Sterling out. Shelvey had a shocker but hes capable of a lot better we have seen it. Spearings poor and Adam is inconsistant as hell but looked better the more the game progressed.

"Oh ye im willin to give them a chance but theyre not gonna be good enough."

????

Red Ollie

Sorry after the players we have brought in its clear adam and spearing arent up to their standard. Henderson and shelvey will be good enough to stay.

Can't understand supporters that at happy to see underperforming / misfiring players in the 1st team and then wonder why we are not in the top 4 ???

Send these players out on loan or play them in the u21 team until they prove they are ready
Does it really make sense to have player X take up a key position and wait 3-4 years until he peaks and we see the best of him
That may help him but puts the team back 3-4 years

Surely at 26 he can't be regarded as a player with potential! He should have realised more of that potential by now. I thought he was going to be oustanding a few years ago but he'll just have to settle for being very, very good.

I think if we do sell Carroll we'd be more likely to sign a pacey striker who can play on the sides of a front 3, such as Walcott or Sturridge.

Hi eds, great job use are doing love the site. Firstly have you heard of any potential interest in Manzukic? I have heard that Brendan Rodgers has been looking at he player over the last number of weeks and is ready to make an offer. Adam, spearing both to leave, shelvey and McLaughlin to go out on loan, shelvey to Swansea, and McLaughlin to Oldham. I have heard that we are also in line to sign a winger from la liga? Thanks eds

Hector Herrera's agent had stated that he is on his way to the premiership and has spoken to both Man. United AND Liverpool about a move.
"These are the only clubs that have an interest in our player and he will emigrate to the premier league this summer" is the quote. At 21 and 10 mill. euro's looks a good buy.
Fergie has said this afternoon that his transfer dealings are now complete (if you believe a word he say's) so does this mean we have another player coming in soon eds.

Dreadful player approaching the end of his career .......

Define missed out. Did Liverpool try to sign him? Did they show any real interest? You are a tool

Flagg

Why have we missed out? A). He hasn't actually signed for Sunderland or any other team and B) lfc may not actually want him! Just because a player signs for another club it shoudnt be assumed we have missed out! Am I right ed in saying that according to reports he doesn't have the best of attitudes ?
Boofs bro

He must be good he couldn't get a game at man city ;)

End of his career? He's 24. I would have him at Liverpool in a shot. People say he doesn't track back etc, that maybe so but he's excellent going forward, can beat a man and score and creat chances. Would rather have someone like that than Henderson/downing playing on the wing. They may work a little harder but they offer us practically nothing. They just make up the numbers on the pitch most the time.

Dont need him sterling dempsey and assaidi will be enough johnson is crap

Deadline day won't be the same again with 'Arry. Provided for much amusement. Triffic, triffic bloke

Anyway, about this Sahin, am not sure, honestly. A player actually must WANT to be at the football club. He shouldn't be forced, by any person or circumstances.
Clearly this bloke doesn't want to be here, that much has been obvious throughtout this saga.
If he ends up at Anfield, it won't be because of entirely free choice but pressure and circumstances.

Do we want that player... one who will always be wishing he were somewhere else instead?
What 100 percent committment you going to get from such a player?
Even more pertinent, have we become no different to City, resorting to mercenary measures to attract players (paying double of whatever the Arsenal offered for Sahin)?

If this club is to once again enjoy its former glories we need committed players who want to be here(i.e Agger; Torres in 2007).
I doubt very much if Nuri Sahin's such a player.
And he shouldn't be begrudged for that.
He's a class player that will be awesome to watch in the Prem, hopefully just not in our colours.

Lastly question to ed002, is it possible that (1)both Sturridge and Dempsey could come in, and that (2)Agger could still leave?

WILLIE {Ed002's Note - There is clearly interest in Dempsey but for Sturridge to arrive I am pretty sure Carroll would need to leave to raise the money. As of last Friday when I checked, there had been no approach to Chelsea about him.}

When you say Sahin 'CLEARLY' doesnt want to be here, what do you base that comment on? If he didnt want to be here, he wouldnt be here. Simple as that.

Lets not paint a negative picture of the lad, who does pretty much what his advisors will tel him to do.

I reckon we have agreed to leave out the option to buy in the hope that Madrid still wont be able to give him first team opportunities this time next year and by that time, he will love being a Red so much that he will sign perminently, with LFC having qualified for Champs League and Arsenal in Europa League and looking for a new manager.

Red G

The fact that Sahin may have needed persuasion to join LFC should not be held against him. His incentive to do well for LFC is to win his place at RM next season. That would have been the same if he landed up Arsenal. Jose will be watching.

Players that wanted to join LFC include the likes of Adam, Downing, Hendo, etc. Their "want" for play for LFC has not won them any slack amongst the fans.

LFC_SA

Well its arbitrary with new players they cant really know the club until they arrive Sahin looks class also good tackler we need that

If you need a drill and you don't have one, you borrow from your neighbour to drill a hole in your wall.The hole might not want to be where it is or straight,etc. but its still a hole!I cannot explain a loan more simpler to you Willie wonka- jhb red

Just to correct you on one point you make, Torres wanted to go to Man U but Fergie wasn't sure about him. This didn't stop him playing well for LFC, it's in Sahins interests to play well for LFC to play his way into contention at Real Madrid. Ged

You mentioned the biggest traitor out saying he wanted to come to LFC, that was him talking crap, hes hardly anywhere near as devoted as Agger...

Aye but i like the quizword for the teabreak y see

I'm trying not to be paranoid, (I'm dure Ed002 will say we are), but it does feel like the media jump on every negative they can with Liverpool and magnify x10!

So, if we won 0-1 away to Hearts, with a youngish/2nd team, then we only just about scraped a narrow victory having scored a fluke goal and hung on through the whole game whilst the opposition battered our goal with a barrage of shots requiring Reina to complete world class save after save to deny a Hearts a well deserved victory that should have been 5-0 to them.

The team were defensively sound enough but lacked when going forward (Sterling the exception). The passing between Adam, Carragher and Spearing in particular was woeful at best. Still a good result though.

Whats the problem we WON , at the end of the season its results that count ......andy.

hi eds just want to know whether we r goin to buy a LB since there is no one good enough to replace enrique
whenever he is injured..johnson's crossing is not good from the left side

Castiel {Ed052's Note - What, erm, we have a young left back who I personally think is better than Enrique in Robinson}

Ed052 you sure your feeling arite {Ed052's Note - Yes mate. Enriques been awful recently - Robinson just gets better}

Robinson WILL be a good LB, but he's not ready yet for me. Enrique is a fair bit ahead of him at the minute imo. Saying that, Enrique certainly went off the boil after Xmas, and hasn't really picked up from what i've seen. Hopefully he does otherwise that could be a problem position. Johnson there and Kelly rb is a decent fix though.

Flagg

I think imo from last nights game that after a word from colin pascoe, BR put S.Downing in that position and he did well. As a full back in BR's system you need to be able to attack and at least downing can use both feet unlike jose whos very left footed. Those 2 along with young JR maybe he feels we are pretty covered in that position and worst case he's also got GJ too. It seems to me we need players who can play in multiple positions in this system who can rotate around all areas of the pitch, ie not just an out and out striker, or set positions for midfield for eg but more a team who fill in the slots left behind when we go forward or press in whatever position they are in when we lose the ball. All midfielders are expected to be extra strikers in the final third and the reverse for strikers when we lose the ball. Obviously its not going to happen overnight but with the new signings it might happen quicker than we think. I for 1 am very excited for the day it clicks into place and will not be slating the team for every little mistake along the way. BR has a plan, he will get the time to implement it. I have waited long enough to see the Prem trophy at Anfield and if I have to wait a year,2 or 3 for the good times to come back on a consistent basis then so be it, I will. Back the club as we should as fans, I'll be shouting from the rafters on the KOP on Sunday and at every game I go to til the day I die for the full 90 plus minutes win,lose or draw. It's the club I love, always have done and always will no matter what. Lets have a bit of positvity around the place for a change, get behind the club,the manager and whatever squad is named on any given matchday. Lets show the world what great fans we truly have, Y.N.W.A as the anthem goes, Simonpw

Agree with Ed052 completely! Robinson is the future of our LB postion. Enrique was great to begin with but then for reasons I don't quite understand he's been a bit pants since the back end of last season.

Brendan Rodgers will look to make a move for Scott Sinclair just before the window shuts which will drag on till deadline day sum being about 5m with Jonjo Shelvey going on loan as we should complete the signing of Nuri Sahin on a season long today or tomorrow the only player we might see leave will be Daniel Agger for around 20m

who do you think wll be at liverpool when the transfer window is closed {Ed052's Note - Sahin and Dempsey}

There's not much strength in depth in that squad Ed052!

24 Aug 2012 14:25:03
Hi eds, if we sign sahin today before 5, is he in the squad for the manchester city game. Also do you believe that we will sign another striker? Thanks Romee {Ed052's Note - Yes to both I think}

Can some one please help me to understand why professional footballers need to be given time to embrace B.Rs tactics.I think that the ability to control and pass the ball are basic skills a footballer should have,why do they need to adjust its a simple game made complicated by all of these experts who make a living re-inventing the wheel.

Derek

The game I watched last night, Liverpool were seriously lacking in the control and pass aspect of the game.

Becuase it's not just about controlling and passing a football. It is about movement. Pass and Move, at speed.
During the game each player have multiple choices of what to do with and without the ball. Learning a managers style of play means understanding and implementing the correct decision making process required to effect the desired playing style. Some players learn faster than others. Some styles require more concentration and focus as there are most options of movement and passing involved. It's a simple game, really.

SpudRed

Absolutely right SpudRed. How does Messi get 50 goals a season for Barca but rarely impress for Argentina? Because tactically everyone at Barca but particularly Xavi and Inietsta knows how to create space in 10 passes time and where that space will be. They know where to pass, when to pass, who has made a run, where the space they have left is, whos job it is to arrive in that space and which defender they are trying to move out of position. If the defending team snuff out an attacking move, they know where the defending team is short of numbers and how to exploit that. All this takes time to learn when you haven't been taught any of it growing up. Our u18 players going in to the 1st team will pick it up quicker than the others because they have learnt a lot from Borrell (Sterling's interception and overlap for Adam's saved shot as examples last night).

Hi Jed - is Allen your brother then?
DM2012

Too many midfielders tryin to play a killer pass at totally the wrong time , just out to try and impress and be the best player on the park , rather than playing the quick simple pass that does not look great but is what's best for the move at that moment , in short players that know they aren't gonna be part of the team long term tryin to look like world beaters for a move

The one touch pass just ahead of teammate for forward momentum is the one i like to see

Would it be be possible to send sterling (next year if he hasn't already cemented a place in the first team), henderson or shelvey on loan to learn how to play rodgers way to a team like bilbao. They have commitment and talent but need another dimension or 2 to their play.
With kelly I think he will either be a good RB or a great CB.

Lil Red

They are not basque

There not Spanish either, so they can be loaned out to bilbao

They're not spanish, so don't need to be basque.....

They have to be basque to play for bilboa, french from basque area can play but no other.

Sahin, Dempsey, Sturridge, Walcott, Johnson.Four from that five would do me, and probably the first 4 in that order. Please Mr. Henry/Werner/Ayre/Rodgers thankyou over and out.

I'd be happy with the first two! 4 out of the 5 isn't realistic!

This just in Liverpool have made an appeal to the fa to widen and raise all posts and bars by 3 inches... This could mean we could get an extra 30 goals this season

Redman

Downing would have scored 20 last season! Has anyone checked Melwood to make sure the training goals are regulation size! Maybe this has been the problem all along!

GPS in the ball also, maybe the technology they have in heat seeking missiles? Do you think the FA will go for it?

Heat seeking missiles in the ball?
Well I guess blowing up the oppositions goalkeeper is one option!

I have to say from what i've seen from the game you have to admit that sterling isn't afraid to give his best in every challenge

Also he can keep the ball at his feet when an oppponent is pushing in his back

I mean i had sterling more for the not so strong dribbling kinda guy but no he can do both

And only 17, can't wait to see him in a couple of years as a full time starter.

For now, BR will blood him in Europa Cup/League Cup and hopefully a few league games as a post 70 minute sub.

Hi Eds (002) if you please :)

I was just wondering Walcott is a possibility still?

Speaking to a colleague at work (West Ham fan - Jarvis £10 million, really!? Not sure on that one) and we agree that Walcott would be a good buy and finish off our spending nicely. We need some more options in front of goal and on the wing and also an injection of pace. In my mind money would be better spend on him rather than a striker and a winger along with the fee's and wages that go with that. Arguably he can do both, 2 for 1 if you like!

I'm sure not everyone will agree but thats my thoughts.

Andy Npton Red {Ed002's Note - I really know nothing of the situation with Walcott - one you need Macca to answer.}

Walcott (the headless chicken) is not the answer to our striker problem

Thierry henry was a tear away winger before wenger got his hands on him.

Afternoon eds
Seen we have been linked with sturridge, ed2 has said no offer has been made, that chelsea wouldn't stand in his way. Just wondered why this is? Is he unhappy at the club, or is he just now seen as surplus to requirements, due to the summer investment?

Mills {Ed052's Note - Chelsea are not actively trying to sell him - but would let him leave if a suitable deal could be done. I guess you could say it similar to Charlie Adam. We are not out there hawking him around, but he will go if a deal, a fair deal can be done}

24 Aug 2012 13:00:48
Hi Eds/Posters..does anybody know the current status of Agger. Have we or will we appeal the red card from WBA game? If so what are the chances? L19 Red ps apologies if already answered.. {Ed052's Note - No we wont appeal. It's only a one match ban tho, aint it?}

Surely 3 matches for a straight red?

I think its 3 matches for aggressive behaviour and past suspensions in the season

The only thing I am worried about is winning headers from defensive areas like corners or free kicks . This is why I think we should play AC he is great at winning the ball in our box . When you look at the team from last night granted some are not going to play against city but there was only Agger and carra who won any headers . We seem to be a team that is getting smaller ( in height ) .

Jamesy

Barcelona still do ok

7, maybe 8 of those players won't start against Citeh.

24 Aug 2012 13:21:25
sahin, allen and lucas are midfield trio. Happy with that. They midfielders are mainly the key for rodgers style and he has brought in two top player in sahin and allen to go with one (if not the best) defensive midfielders in the premier league. Not to mention our back up three of gerrard, shelvey and henderson.

For me get rid of spearing and adam. Maybe use suso in some games to get him experience.

Also keep hold of agger at all costs, fits perfectly in the style we play. The defence has looked shaky at the start of the season, but i don't think there are many issues there and is pretty solid.

With the remaining days of the transfer window we must bring in some more attacking options. Bring in the likes of dempsey, another winger and for me another striker. I'm not saying we should buy him whatsoever but Danny graham for swansea was purchased by rodgers. He isn't the most mobile of forwards but he is also very strong, that why I believe carroll can fit into our play. if our attacking option are suarez, borini, carroll, dempsey, assaidi, downing and another striker that is pretty strong also.

These things will take time for us to gel. But I am very happy with the progress we have made in the last couple of months. especially with the up and coming talent. Sterling impressed me yesterday,when you consider the lad in only 17! phenomenal talent. cheers

Danny

Agger looked top quality against hearts..the way he recieves the ball..and carry forward...and some of his diagonal pass to jo kelly and the way he controll the defence...he is a top quality player..
he reminds me that its not always u clear off ur line in defence...
he is the best in the league...
if he was with milan..they would have sold him for 50 mill to psg..

I might get slated for this but - i just watched a video of all the times we hit the woodwork last season and Downing and Suarez were unbelieavebly unlucky. I just wonder what would happen to a players confidence if those goals had of gone in. We all know Suarez is world class. But Downing?? Is BR wasting his time giving him another chance.

my god will it ever be 2 o clock lol, simonpw

I know i'm clock watching n all, but one of the Ed's said earlier on that it's just a standard press conference for Sunday's game against Man City.

Which is pretty standard, so 1+1 doesn't always = 2, but i'm still watching just in case, as i've never seen, or noticed the push on the main part of the LFC website before. So i'm foolishly still curious, and no doubt Rodgers will be fielded questions about Fulham's complaint about LFC.

Omg its 14:10 and still no press conference, they're killing me, simonpw

24 Aug 2012 13:11:47
Why are we not moving for Adam Johnson. For 8 million he is worth every penny.

I agree, he's one of the few English players that excites me.

I think Liverpool could easily get a double figure goal return from Adam Johnson if he was given the games.

And we could let in double figures with him not tracking back.

Because his attitude and hes done nothing for a long time.

I think he is an utter waste of money that has failed to impress since his move to Man City!

We're not in a position where we can sign every player who takes our fancy. 8million on Johnson would be 8million we wouldn't spend on Dempsey or Walcott, for example. Not just a money issue, but a keeping players happy issue as well - can't sign all the available wingers, much as we might want to

Red Ollie

IMO Cole, Spearing, Downing and Adam four players who are just making up the numbers in the squad.If only we could ship them out to make room for some quality.Easier said than done i know!

I personally rate Adam and Downing and hope Rodgers can incorporate them both into the team as i hope he does Carroll. Liverpool are a great force, been shaky for a while but we need a decent squad, maybe Downing and Adam aren't super star players they are certainly worthy of being squad players and fighting the competition for places brings more out of a player.

I agree Cole and Spearing are not good enough on a consistent basis. Cole is on big money making it hard to budge him but i hope QPR, West Ham or Villa et al. come in for him, even on loan paying half his wagers would be better than us paying them all.

Spearing is light on wagers and i understand if that is noted greatly in his favour, but that is because he isn't good enough to hold a regular spot.

Downing is good if it wasnt for the post he would have 4 or 5 goal last season. Adam is not consistant enough

Hi eds, I don't understand Fulham's complaint about Dempsey, which seems to be that Liverpool have not followed up their interest with an offer. But my understanding from the various eds is that the reason Liverpool haven't bid is that Fulham have placed too high a price on the player--which is hardly Liverpool's fault. Am I missing something? Thanks for any help on this.

Steve {Ed052's Note - No, but we have done something we shouldn't of - talking about another player etc.}

Ed052 - Get what your saying but. So did fergie with RVP and so does mancini and every other manager. You know if a journalist asks you what is the sitituation with dempsey? what would the FA like to blantly lie. Or just tell the truth. We made a enquiry. It came back to high hence we aren't going for him! What so confusing. What don't want lying policitics in every aspect of football, its bad enough with fifa!

You know the amount of managers that have said how good messi is or rooney or whoever. are they tapping up? I Just think that Fulham are trying to force our hand.

Jordan {Ed052's Note - They probably are}

How many teams have done this, you see managers on the TV all the time saying they like a player etc, why are Liverpool being targeted again!! {Ed002's Note - You are paranoid. The FA issues warnings to clubs all of the time over such matters.}

Thanks Ed052. So it seems that Fulham are complaining about 'tapping up', but wouldn't have made that complaint if Liverpool had offered the £10m or whatever it is that Fulham want. Is that right? Seems a very unprincipled position to me.

Steve

Yes, and what about Pardew and Newcastle with Andy Carroll?
Hypocrites and FA are two words that seem to go together

Big Sam with regards to Carroll is heinous relative to what we have done. Fulham crying over nothing IMO. This happens all the time. They're retaliating due to Dempsey's reaction to it all

Toon have not acted the same way over Carroll at all. They put an official request in to loan him with option to buy which was turned down .At no point has there been anything other than that from Newcastle.

Pardew was quoted as saying LFC should "cut their losses" on Carrol, seeing as his team had made an enquiry, that would be grounds for a complaint, but not all teams complain. Al Fayed is a businessman not a football man he doesn't like to lose and he wants to set the agenda.

This complaint is about his ego becuase he allowed one of his best players to get into the last year of his contract.

Taggart said Kenny lost his job over the Suarez affair. Why was he allowed to talk about another team's player?! We all know he was stirring things up in the hope that Luis would go to Juventus! Last year he said Suarez 'dived all over the place' and he never won a free kick for about another 6 weeks!

24 Aug 2012 12:41:56
The fans moaning about the passing back to the keeper last night. The reason it was boring is because until Allen came on none of the Midfield dropped deep between the 2 CBs when Pepe had the ball hence why the ball always went to agger who was on the left and the ball went back to pepe as there was no movement in midfield.
For this to work 1 of the 3 midfielders must come deep for the ball unfortunately spearing is not good enough to do this and shelveys passing was awful last nite, and adams passing is far to slow.
When allen came on our play was a lot better cos the lad can come deep, pass quick and knows how to do this role and will only get better. Trust me this lad is going to be worldclass

red dean

I'm with you red brother! I like Allen a lot! A little gem! Midfield maestro! Welsh wizard! Paisley's genius

I'm happy enough that both Allen and Lucas can do that, so no worries long term.

24 Aug 2012 12:41:39
Just a quick point...
IF we sign Sahin, where would he play?
I could be wrong but I see Lucas, Allen and Sahin as all having very similar qualities and all three are (as far as I'm concerned) quality players.
Do you see them all starting?
Just thought I'd put it out there...

If you play all three then Brendan can move Gerrard higher up the pitch. Him and Suarez behind a striker would give defences something to think about.

Kev the Red

I'd say as cover for either Lucas or Allen. Shelvey can provide cover for Gerrard and so could Dempsey if he comes.

LFC Brazil

Why not:

Allen - Lucas - Sahin

- Gerrard/Dempsey -
Suarez - Sturridge

I think thats the plan kev,gerrard and suarez both given free roles behind borini

24 Aug 2012 12:34:51
IYO ed would this be too attacking v Citeh=Reina
Johnson Skrtel Coates Enrique
Suarez(wide cutting in)Gerrard Allen Sterling
Borini Carroll(may aswell play him whilst still here as we still cant score,more strikers the better)Subs.Lucas Hendo kelly new winger lad robinson keeper Shelvey.Maybe start with Lucas and Stevie, Then bring Allen on for Lucas for more attacking impetus in last 20min

So BR's gonna revert to 4-4-2 is he?

get with the program or go support an old style english team with a proverbial big man

So the Sahin transfer saga should be over fairly soon, will it be us or Arsenal tough choice for the lad. Will the lure of Champions League be too great for him to turn down, we shall see soon enough.

With Adam Johnson 'in talks' with his boyhood club Sunderland i hope that rumour can finally be put to bed, giving us chance to focus on a story with a bit of substance Clint Dempsey to Liverpool. I expect the Fulham chairman to remain stubborn for now but finally see sense and let the player leave.

Watching the game last night i couldn't help but think Charlie Adam's days at Liverpool may well be coming to an end, he just doesn't fit into the system Rodgers plays.

always a red

Apparently Arsenal have pulled out of the race for Sahin and are after Yann M'Villa instead.

The three signings so far this window has been announced by the club on Fridays (13/7, 10/8, 17/8). 24 Aug 2012 12:36:51
A funny story.

A Doncaster Rovers footballer has been told he will be given the chairman's Bentley if he scores more than 20 goals this season.

Midfielder Kyle Bennett said John Ryan promised to give him the car, worth about £50,000, if he met the target.

Mr Bennett, 21, said the offer was made to him at Walsall following a 3-0 win earlier this month.

Mr Ryan said the incentive was to help the League One club get promoted.

He said: "There's method in my madness. If Kyle gets 20 goals, I think two things are likely to happen - he'll be worth about £2m to £3m in the transfer market and we're more than likely to be in the Championship, which is worth about £5m to £6m." {Ed052's Note - Brilliant - but for a 50k car, should be a bigger prize haha}

24 Aug 2012 12:35:39
Just a comment on last night's game that it's obvious who won't fit into BR style of play. Carragher def won't and kelly could struggle as well. In midfield, spearing hasn't got it either as he always seemed to be forcing the pass rather than just gliding it like Allen did when he replaced him. Adam is technically good but doesn't have the engine required. Lastly and hopefully I will be proved wrong over time but I do worry about jonjo's development. His tackling, passing and decision making can all be described as erratic. Roll on Sunday and our first win of the season :-)
MonaghanRed

I agree about Shelvey. I think he has fantastic ability and his commitment last night couldn't be faulted but his positional discipline was poor. I think he wanted to impress so much that he attempted to play every position across midfield at the same time! He constantly stood in a line with Spearing, Henderson and Adam and made our midfield too tight. Spearing was to be the deepest of the three but Shelvey was so keen to impress that he kept dropping into the same position to receive the ball and when it went up to Borini (who looked really sharp) he was totally isolated as our midfield were too far away to provide support. I would love Shelvey to play much closer to him. The Hearts back four were able to double up on Sterling and handle Borini without worrying about our midfield too much. On the two occasions when Adam did break forward he had decent shots on target but it didn't happen often enough. Allen looked infinitely more composed and assured when he came on. Spearing gave the ball away too frequently - twice in dangerous positions within a few moments of each other and Henderson had little or no impact on the game which seemed to pass him by.

I think Carragher can still do a job for us. His influence on the team on and off the pitch can't be underestimated and I think his experience will prove crucial over the course of the season. We're not asking him to become Beckenbauer over night, just pass the ball to a team mate over 20 yards. And when that's not possible he can lump it!
CD75

Think you're right with the points you made, but Kelly and Carragher are 2nd string for our starting RB and CBs. In this role are good replacements for this season. Shelvey I've never quite warmed too, people rate him I know but I don't think he has the "football brain" needed by a LFC midfielder! Hes big, athletic, quick for sure but he doesn't read the game his first instinct is to go for "goal". Ged

Adam technically good. Are you sure?
Why wouldnt Kelly fit in?

24 Aug 2012 12:32:08
Other than the sahin deal expect mega moves to happen on or close to deadline day. My ever reliable pop (works in the states - linked with warrior) and the crack is.
Carroll won't move - what we spent against what we would get isn't something FSG are keen on as they want to save face.
Suarez - despite signing a new deal is linked with a stupid 35mill plus add-ons to PSG which will pave the way for Dempsey and Sturridge to join.
Agger - won't leave
Shelvey - Loaned out
Spearing - Loaned out
Doni / the other keeper - Out
Johnson - Probable depending on Suare deal.
Oh - Sunderland to hoy a cheeky Henderson loan deal in
Villa to hoy a cheeky loan deal in for Downing

Dont shoot the messenger

So your source is so reliable that they know all the deals we are working on, but they don't know the name of our third choice goalkeeper?
You obviously just made all this up, as PSG have Ibra now, Henderson and Downing back to there clubs on loan? That was inventive.. did the Carroll saga inspire that BS.
When do you go back to school mate?

YNWA! (Adam)

Haha that is tosh! pretty sure we wouldn't have a team co me that start of the season if that happened! suarez is going nowhere for now and looks likely carroll will stay if newcastle don't put in a much improved offer.

EdS is it possible that if we where to sign sahin today or tomorrow he will feature in the city game {Ed002's Note - If the paperwork were completed and international clearance provided today then yes. But I would not expect that to happen.}

24 Aug 2012 12:14:33
reporting that we are close to the signing of Sturridge ? credible - probably not, but I think he would fit well with us..
Cuttsy

So do I. Versitile, quick and knows where the goal is when given the chance. Look at his time at Bolton.

I do rate him but he has a tendency to "throw his toys out of the pram" when things don't go his way! I think BR needs to judge if his character fits with the "team" as a whole, rather than just look at his ability. No doubt though that he is an intelligent player. Ged

This is one player i really do not rate Greedy , lazy and an EGO and a half.What he does have is pace and a eye for goal but will need to become humble.I really hope not

I think he would be good for us played center forward because you want your main goal getter to be greedy. he wouldn't look so greedy at chelsea if he was played centrally.

Would i be right in assuming because Carragher played last night that coates will be partnering the skrtelator at the back against city, i hope so anyway.
Jaydee ynwa

Carragher is one of the deadwoods. He is holding a place in which we can use a far defender, namely Coates and he is awful the last couple of years. Legend no legend he is a big liability.

I would expect Coates to partner Skrtel against City.

How dare anyone call Carra a dead wood yes he was quicker when he was younger but he still has the brains ,which you obviously dont have to post such disrespectful things about a true liverpool great

To the second poster why don't you show a bit of class and stop referring to Liverpool players as deadwood, especially a player that has given 100% for the club every time he steps out on to the pitch.

I think Carra has lost his brains to. Always lacking in awareness.

You've got no class m8t unlike Carragher who has it in spades! If Jamie thinks he can't perform at the required level anymore I think he would go to BR and say so! He is not the type of guy to see out his contract just cause he's well paid, he cares about the club too much for that! He knows he's not first choice, but hes as good a reserve CB as in any team in the EPL. Ged

Not a transfer rumour more a query
into the financail fair play rules. Just wonder
how Chelsea can meet the set criteria with no
sales but £75 million spent?
Anyone out there who could enlighten me?

Don't think FFP comes into play until 2013

They still have an income above that of transfers, ticket sales, tv money, etc. I'm not sure it will cover there costs though. {Ed002's Note - I would not worry about the FFP rules just yet.}

Chelsea got a fortune in prize money winning the Champions League, and i imagine they picked up a few quid winning the FA cup too. I wouldn't worry too much about what they've spent as none of it was used to buy defensive players where they are quiet weak.

always a red

It all depends on Commerical deals the club has in place, really it is nearly impossible that Chelsea or City or United for that fact would meet the FF Rules but its more about if the boys at the top actually enforce it. I dont think they will as that would mean most the big clubs out of their comps which would mean loss of revenue. I just dont see these FFR working.

They won like 100mil from the CL

Regarding ffp rules,couldnt they deductpoints off teams who refuse to play by the rules, like 10 point deductions, they d soon get their houses in order

tom1975

United were £46m within the FFP guidelines when calculated by Swiss Ramble based on their last financial report. That means in theory the club could net spend £46m and still break even. United are well within the guidelines, even more so than Arsenal.

Disney!

Ed002, some time ago you suggested you might write a little summary of the FFP rules and thier impact - in terms that we less knowledgable fans could understand.

Is there any chance you may still find time (or have you done and I have just missed it)?

Cheers {Ed002's Note - I am running late. I will be travelling next week but will get to it at some point - and I will provide some worked examples.}

I have seen a number people in the media criticise LFC for the performance last night. Taken an overall view I think it was really positive. In patches we held onto the ball really well. It is defo work in progress.

Martin Kelly, Jack Robinson, Raheem Sterling, Fabio Borini, Joe Allen, Adam Morgan, Jordan Henderson, Jonjo Shelvey. These are young lads that are still learning and experiences such as last night will really help the development. It is important we progress as I am sure along with the Capital One cup they will get more game time and aid the process of them becoming regulars. I think BR had a good mix of experiences and youngsters last night. I think longer term we are going to be strong

Good post !

We have some very god lads coming thru the ranks

Look out for Ibe, Suso and Teixeira in particular as well

I agree. A good win away from home, with alot of youngsters in the mix. Who could have a problem with that? Sterling was also a ray of sunshine, and Borini is looking sharp. Trolls and the media not happy, but I was.

Nick

Anyone unhappy with last nights performance would have been extremely disappointed watching the Liverpool sides of the late 70's & early 80's our European campaigns were built on steady performances such as last night,go 1 nil up maybe 2 nil up then pass & particularly back pass to the goalkeeper (back in the days when he could pick up straight from a back pass) to death then hit our stride in the latter stages......... Paisley's genius

I just ignore the UK press, its all sensationalist rubbish and at times their over exuberance and loquaciousness can tend to get the better of them....

plus of course Fergies still pulling all the strings with the big boys like Sky etc...

Tel 1949

How many times have we read on this forum how unlucky we are, if only blah blah blah, wood work this, cross bar that? When we finally get a lucky goal, while at the same time giving the youngsters some game time (as demanded by many a supporter on this forum) the is a bit of a knee jerk and moaning about performances. Crickey guys, how many times did we lose matches last season after dominating and/or playing great football. Take the rough with smoothe on this one!!

Red Sunrise

You must have been watching something different to me. Most of the time the ball control was awful. Tika Taka is fine but they need to be able to control the ball. Performances with the exception of Sterling were mediocre at best. I presume that they will get better once they get more used to the system but to be honest I was not inspired.

Nice word loquacious

You could see some of the players really needed 90mins, the team should be fresh for sunday, i wonder who will partner skrtel hope its big seb r carra have to say some of that passing about the back is dangerous just as well we have pepe as his footwork is the best for any keeper in the premiership.tommy Irish Red

Murray {Ed052's Note - I try and be positive and get slated for it. You carn't win}

I think it depends ed052 mate. I love Gerrard and Idolised him as a child, my favourite player by a mile. But he just isn't what he used to be and hasn't been for a couple of years. So for me, if he plays Henderson instead of Gerrard we win. If he plays Gerrard we lose, because defensively he doesn't work hard enough anymore whereas Hendo does.

KiwiRed {Ed052's Note - Fair enough mate - I agree. Here comes the grief haha}

I have put my house on it now, the dog, the missus, the kids, not the car though can't afford to lose that

Yep here comes the comments about me being an armchair fan who never goes to games and how dare I criticize 'Super Stevie'. People do realize that it would cost 10k for plane tickets, accommodation etc from NZ. Being a poor Uni student doesn't help.....

KiwiRed

You an criticize STevie G if you like, provided its a sound criticism. Unfortunately you are using one performance to jump on a silly bandwagon. Gerrard has got a lot to offer and is still easily one of the top midfield players in the Premier League. I doubt he could play every week though, which is another reason Sahin will be a welcome additon, but if used correctly, Stevie is still a gem.

Please reply, thanks {Ed052's Note - Liverpool}

Phew, thanks for the inside info Ed, thought we were going to get a drubbing for a minute

I think Liverpool have been a bit unlucky against City, so between their opening performance against West Brom and having a point to prove I am predicting a win for Liverpool. I have to say I would be very worried if they lost and played badly - it could have a huge impact on team confidence. Ever optimistic I am predicting a 2-0 win for Liverpool. Suarez and Borini scoring.

Really think we're going to concede a goal ED? You're such a pessamist.

So fellow reds, Sahin and Dempsey most likely to sign for us before the window. I think it's great news, and i'm happy with what Rodgers has managed to do so far. I think it was the right time for Maxi and Kuyt to leave. I'm a fan of Assadi, although he wasn't 100% on top form towards the end of last season, he did well internationally, so a fresh start might be just what he needed. Borini may take time to adjust but he is already causing trouble in and around the box, he took his Gomel goal very well and that lackadaisical like trot into the box to grab the loose ricocheting ball will be known as the Borini special. He did that a lot for Roma last season. He is very young and we should be happy watching him flourish into a very good player, shocked Roma sold him but then the Bojan deal might have forced their decision.

Joe Allen is a very good prospect, i think he is the player that many had hoped Jordan Henderson was going to be when we signed him. Allen has some get up and go about him in the league and seems to be in possession of a good footballing brain. I think a loan deal for Henderson would be very good for Liverpool, he certainly has the potential but he is lacking the cutting dynamic he had towards the end of his Sunderland career. If Sahin at 24 is being loaned to us to gain a dimension to his game as Mouinho believes it will, then maybe we could loan Henderson to a club that will have to fight hard in the league like a Villa or a Stoke to bring that potential to the fore. It would save us a lot of money when Sahin goes back to Real, on yet another CM.

Adam, Rodgers made it clear he wants to keep Adam, so i'd be surpised if Adam were to leave, especially as he's told the media he doesn't plan on leaving LFC. Shelvey, i would keep him and use him, maybe from the bench but he would benefit from that still, where as i don't think Henderson would given the extra couple of years in age he has over Shelvey. Spearing, although he is very light on the wage bill, i think we have given him a very fair chance at LFC and if an offer comes in we should accept it and give him our blessings.

Damien Comolli's dried up ink well.

Well said good sir, well said.

Poulson said he didnt plan on leaving either

we need a good finisher i think sturridge is good in that position.
do we still have intrest in him?
plz reply baaksi {Ed052's Note - We haven't made an approach to Chelsea}

Sturridge has a step over and that's about it, i don't think he's a good transition from Andy Carroll, we need a killer. Carroll still could be the one but Rodgers doesn't seem to want him and is flirting with the idea of using money from the sale from what i can tell.

Ed's have said no one seems to be interested to buy Carroll for £20 million cash, and the idea of loans with £12 million or £17 million just doesn't seem acceptable, especially not from Newcastle. I say play him and get the best out of him. Physically he dominates in the air and from corners, play him and he'll come good. He was so effective towards the tail end of the season that i have to question Rodgers, or the forcing hand behind the scenes that seems intent on ridding the club of a 23 year England international with bags of potential and time on his side. Very short sighted in my opinion.

Good post. The opening games have shown us that currently there isn't a better striker than AC.

We will struggle for goals this season simply because we don't have the goal spread within our team.

We are in for a long season, hoping for the best but have lowered my expectation slightly.

Sam armchair

Sturridge is quick, mobile, versitile and knows where the goal is.
Carroll has the touch and movement of a baby elephant.

I would be able to see a lot of merit in your argument if Carroll could move , but sadly , he can't . Can you imagine how he would have looked last night ?

Big week ahead for LFC starting from today. Rumours that Sahin is more or less ready for signing. Man City on Sunday, a disapointing performance against Hearts but never the less a win is a win. Some confidence can be restored, however still a lot to do.

Dissapointing performance against hearts? Rogers selected a team that would have to work hard for a win and would work certain players. Job done, well done Brandan, I think we took a lot more than goals from the game.

The good thing about the hearts game is we played badly and won. Good sign. It will do nothing to restore confidence. A win against City will!

With spearing and adam in the middle, we were always gonna struggle against hearts. They slow down the tempo of the game too much for my liking.

Every season the question is asked 'why do we not use glen Johnson at right mid/wing ?' Given the signing we've made thus far, I think it's more poignant now than ever. A front 3 of borini - Suarez - downing...: borini is a central channel striker and downing is useless. Johnson consistently provides our most fluent attacking drive down the pitch from right back, and Kelly has proven perfectly capable in a defensive role in the same position, if somewhat lacking going forward. Why not play them both on the right ? Johnson's weakness has allways been somewhat sloppy defending, so why not push him further up, no doubt in my mind he will provide better service than Downing and being RB at heart, adequate cover for Kelly. {Ed052's Note - It's his contract isn't it}

The formation has changed now aswell. People were calling for that when it was a four man midfield with Johnson on the right of a four. To play him down the right now it would basically mean playing him as a third striker.

I dunno if it's in Jonno's contract that he play right back, but I do know he's really not keen on playing right midfield because he thinks it'll hurt his England chances.

I don't think he's that bad a defender tbf. Yeah, he can get caught upfield but that's going to happen with whoever we're playing at right back since it's part of the system that they push on to provide width.

When he's actually back in place he's okay. It's not like Dossena who'd get back in position, but still get beaten 1v1 nearly every time anyway.

Hi rEds,
Rodgers will sign two more players before D-day. They'll be Sahin (loan) and Dempsey (8m). Charlie Adam and Jay Spearing will join Sunderland and Nottingham Forest for 6 and 2 million respectively. Expect Newcastle to make a deadline day move for Carroll.
Watch this Space.

Carroll is a much better footballer now than he was at NFC, just low on confidence. They should pay more than 35mil for him or do one.

I still wouldn't rule out a move for Walcott and/or Sturridge either.

100% true. That WILL happen.

24 Aug 2012 11:37:29
Just as an addendum to an earlier post, lets get everyone to list their starting line-up vs Man City.

Reina
Johnson-Coates-Skrtel-Enrique
Henderson-Lucas-Allen
Gerrard-Borini-Suarez

I think this will give us the options we will need in a game against the champions. The ball retention (Hendo, Lucas, Allen) and the penetration of two players who can beat a man with drive (Gerrard) and skill (Suarez). Hopefully we can take a few chances and get back on track with a nice win. The reason I chose Coates over Carra, I would be happy if Kelly started at CB if needed, was due to his severe lack of pace and by how he lacked any semblance of sharpness/awareness. The horror moment of his weak back pass to Reina demonstrated this best. I fear BR will play Jamie, but think it could be a massive error.

Thanks
Glov3z the Red

Thats the exact lineup i would be going for, with gerrard and suarez given free roles behind borini

24 Aug 2012 11:34:59
Hey ed, since there are rumours that we are due to sign sahin, I just want to know where would he actually play and who would make way, because Lucas gerrard and Allen all have cemented places in the midfield 3 in my opinion , the only option I could see is moving gerrard to either wing but I can't see that happening. Post on rumours page please, thanks. {Ed052's Note - I've already got grief for this, but I think you will see him and Gerrard rotate - and each play about 30 games this year - depending on performances.}

Personally I'd like to see Gerrard on the right of the front 3 and drift in, be an attacking midfielder. He will provide a good link between midfield and attack.

Our problems the last few seasons have been not having that cohesion between attack and midfield. We can hold the ball in our own half, as soon as we get near the final third: it all breaks down. We need to hold it up better higher up the field.

Either that or Sahin could play on the right up top? He's left footed, we know BR likes the wide players to have inverted good feet (ie Right footed on left wing, vice versa). Interesting few matches ahead, I assume Sahin (WHEN he signs) will start on Thursday next. Can't wait to see him, he's an amazing player. I'm a huge fan.

Ojay

24 Aug 2012 11:32:26
Sahin to sign for liverpool. 5 million loan fee, 120k wages fully paid, no buy clause at end of season. Nice player but 1 year rental. Jose gets what he wants sahin to continue his development and to come back to Real next year.

I think that this is a good deal, let's hope it works out better than Nunes and Morientes. No disrespect to them but things could have been better. Also twelve months ago everybody on here was gutted that Nuri joined Madrid and we never even tried to get him. He has won 2 different leagues in 2 years with 2 different clubs and in my personal opinion is better than Kagawa.
#19 pka Scouse_Pride

We should loan out players like Henderson and Shelvey and reap the benefits of doing the same.

I think Sahin ensures us cover so that we can afford this luxury and have the loan market be of a benefit to us in two ways, one directly from renting players like Sahin, but also using it as a conveyor belt of LFC talent gaining experience and knowledge in the education.

The academy can only bring players on so far and playing football from the bench only helps so much that loaning players to clubs like Villa and Fulham and even Swansea who have attack minded coaches with good philosophy of the game.

Financially these players might not be able to pay all the wagers or only be able to offer token payments for the deals, but they play the same opponents in the same league, what better learning curb than at slightly lower placed teams, so we get an end product and help develop the players coming through, not all will need such a plan, but some certainly could benefit.

It's 2m fee, 70k wages, it's just a year loan, 5m lol

24 Aug 2012 11:02:18
Not sure about this sahin, does he actually want to play for us? Also Ed 52 show a bit more respect towards your captain! It goes for everyone, ok he isn't the player he once was. But he's dragged this team through a lot! {Ed052's Note - I'm not showing any disrespect. Someone asked me if he would play, and I said no. How's that disrespectful. I have more respect and support for our players than most of you I'm usre. He has dragged the team through loads, and he's been a hero, a star. He was Liverpool for many years. But those years, pressure and strain are catching up on him. And yes, at the Euros he was fine, but that was slower football, and we are going to be playing quicker, in a quick league. His performances have been dropping for a couple of years}

I absolutely agree with Ed here because if someone still wants to play Gerrard 'out of respect' and lose then that person is actually disrespecting Liverpool's ambition to play the modern game. It's like we are again sticking to past. We don't have 'balls' to accept the situation and move on from there. If Gerrard wants to see Liverpool winning then at times he may have to see it from bench.

Indian Kopite {Ed052's Note - i'm sure Gerrard wouldn't mind being on the bench if he though it best for the team}

Gerrard when fit last year displayed no lack of power or pace once he regained fitness

Too many too eager to write him off

I do apologise, Maybe I just misread it, I do agree he doesn't look as sharp anymore and feel we should have him as the holding midfield.

Do you not think that after so many years of dragging the team from hell and back, and what he sees FSG doing, that he's lost all hope! How many times has he heard 'we need to build foundations' crap. We get rid of the players he thrives on playing with ie Torres, Owen, xabi and get the likes of borini and co.

I can see Eds point here..Gerrard is not going to start every game and could be a great impact subs used in different games...sentiment its the reason why we haven't moved forward for the last 20 years. I'm sure Stevie would take whatever role the boss gave him..Still has alot to offer unfortunatley he not the player he was 2-3 years ago..

Rich

If Gerrard's fit for the season and starts less than 30 games, I'd be very surprised.

I think that talk of his demise is a bit premature. He's still got more quality on the ball than everyone in our side apart from Suarez.

That being said, I'm not sure where Sahin, Lucas, Allen and Gerrard will all fit into one team.

Ed002, just a quick question on your opinions..
You seem to dismiss a lot of the speculation and rumours posted on here concerning various players and some that are continuously linked with us this summer, which by the way I'm by no means disagreeing with as I think a lot of your responses are spot on correct. But I was wondering whether this is because you reckon there will be not much activity from from us during the rest of the window or whether you think the players that could yet sign are being kept quiet behind the scenes so therefore most rumours on here are likely just wild guesses/made up?
Cheers
Redjoe96 {Ed002's Note - I will dismiss them if they are not true - Cavani, Hazard, Falcao, Coentrao, Sanchez etc.. There has been pleanty of activity with three players arriving a fourth very probable. I have said expect one or two ins and outs still.}

Ok, let's finally end this transfer window saga. Sahin in today, Dempsey to follow. Out's - Cole, Spearing and Adam.

That I believe is a decent squad, good cover in all positions (ok maybe not a out and out world class striker, but clearly the dosh is not there for that)

Sterling deserves the opportunity this season as he proved last night and we should blood Kelly as a CB.

Looking forward to Sunday's game, reckon we could surprise a few with a good crowd behind us.

Sorry but I have just seen the highlights of yesterday's match, and borini needs to improve. 3 sitters he missed! Ok he runs a lot, but we don't need that. We need someone who can FINISH! Not being funny but for over 20 k a week they should be able to put the ball away! {Ed052's Note - Mate, don tjudge players on highlights. Borini was good. He only missed one shot - and it wasn't a ''sitter'' as you call it neither.}

Agree Ed
He is getting in the right places at the right time, the rest will follow

Maybe if the linesman could have kept up with borinis movement it would have been a different story.

So GET REAL !

I bet he counted the ball that came from behind him on the volly that Messi would have struggled with as a sitter

He was wrongly judge offside atleast on 2 occasion.
Red 316

Borini is already causing troubles in the opposition box, his run into the box blined the sight of the ball of the defender who ended up scoring an own goal.

If Borini wasn't there that was easily cleared and it would have ended 0-0. The lad is 21, he did well for Roma last year. He's improving all the time and in my opinion will make you metaphorically choke on your typed and not said words.

Sterling squared Borini the ball and he hit it cleanly but he was denied by the post. It wasn't criminal and these are the games Borini will learn from, where he is the goal threat and that his positioning is vital. He was ruled offside wrongly twice last night, his speed fooled the linesman as he can peel off the last defender very well.

A very positive signing, keep your eyes on him, is my advice. {Ed052's Note - Here here}

All of this speculation , tactics , transfer news , tika-taka , loan deals , poor player , good player is a complete waste of time , in my view , unless we sign an out and out goalscorer , of which we have none at the club ( with the possible exception of Adam Morgan ) .

This would release the world class talent that is Luis Suarez to play in his natural position , on the right of a front three .

The goal scorer does not have to be the world's best footballer , finishing is a different art to most aspects of football .

Jimmy Greaves , for example , contributed nothing outside the penalty area but scored 382 league goals and added a further 44 in 57 internationals .

Even at 72 , I still think he would be worth a punt !

Whos Jimmy Greaves?

Jimmy Greaves is a mate of Ian St John's

Jimmy Greaves was a deadly poacher who contributed little other than goals to the team

Liverpool could do with greavsy!

He's kinda like a lazy ian rush and we al know how we could do with him

Whos Jimmy Greaves?!
One of the greatest strikers of all time!!

'' Whos Jimmy Greaves '' says one reply . Under twelves should use Wikipedia to gather information .

I think at some point on sunday we will see what rodgers has in mind,

Despite the various rumors, Macca stuck to his guns and said Sahin would sign for Liverpool. Reports are saying he has signed now. This is really great news.

As for the Eds, Thanks for the non-stop update. God bless you peeps, real good.

Now we can hope for one or two signings more, including a striker. Great news lads.

What good news that he is ripping you off, this is going to be one of the most expensive loan signings in the history of world football, not bad for a player that doesnt get a game for madrid, yet again loserpool are being made a laughing stock lol lol lol.

Did that 2nd comment come from a poor wee arsenal fan? Sahin is a genuine young world class player, who's parent club has many world class players. He's going to be a huge star this season, while Arsenal dissappear...

4 other players will join- Assaidi has joined... so 3 to go... I'm thinking Dempsey will be one of them and then we will attempt to sign Walcott. I think Adam Johnson may have been the other one but that was only to happen if Agger goes to City (which I don't think he will). Similarly, Tello may have been a target but only if Agger went to Barca (again, I don't think he will).

1 week to go... could be interesting!

Smirky.

A keeper, dempsey,a striker and maybe a left back

Not sure about this sahin, does he actually want to play for us? Also Ed 52 show a bit more respect towards your captain! It goes for everyone, ok he isn't the player he once was. But he's dragged this team through a lot!

Without Gerrard supporting LFC over the last 12 years would have been dire

Gerrard's contriburtion cannot be overstated {Ed052's Note - True - but just because of that he shouldn't still be in the team}

SO? Its his honour that he is captain of LFC and every kid wearing a red jersey wants to be like him he should get his act together. we all love him and respect him even if we are little bit disappointed at his showing.
Red 316

No disrespect to our captain but i have been saying for the last couple of years that he is not the player he was. last season we won more games without him than with him in the team.

Ed, now with chelsea agreeing a fee with wigan for moses ,does that change their position regarding Sturridge moving out ?
any truth on Dagger going to city 20m+ adam johnson ?
now with Sahin & dempsey looking like our most likely signings to add depth to what we already have who do u think would replace the outgoing players if any of them does ? (agger,cole,adam,spearing, carroll)
hoping for a very busy week after Rodgers stated he feels the squad is far far smaller than what he expects it to be .. {Ed052's Note - Sturridge has always been avaliable}

24 Aug 2012 10:44:23
If and when Sahin signs, do people expect Gerrard to be benched or to play on the right side of the attacking three?

Personally I'd like to see him there and drift in, be an attacking midfielder. He will provide a good link between midfield and attack.

Our problems the last few seasons have been not having that cohesion between attack and midfield, we can hold the ball in our own half, as soon as we get near the final third: it all breaks down. We need to hold it up better higher up the field.

THAT, I feel, is the key. More chances created that way, more attacking intent, causes the opposition more problems. When we're dicking about in our own half (as we do far too often) the opposition sits back and only presses until we get into their half and inevitably lose the ball and the attack.

liverpool holding a press conference at 2 oclock for man city game and possibly be a new face or two {Ed052's Note - Just Sahin. He will be asked about transfers though, so he will say something, he always does}

Can we drop the Carroll bashing. It's not his fault he cost £35M. It's not his fault he struggled with the style of play under Dalglish. It's not his fault that he doesn't suit the style of play Rodgers preferes. Like marriages, sometimes footballers just don't work out. He is a top drawer striker however he needs to play in a team that plays to his strengths - we don't and won't. The correct thing to do is move him on to where he is more suited and where he will be happier, take the loss on the chin and draw a line under it. RED LENIN.

Well said mate

Agree, I also like to think of my great club of a football school, where we can make great football players. Andy is young and has some raw talent, surely this can be developped at Liverpool, if we could develop him to master tikka takka he could be an awsome prospect in a couple of years and still very young. He could be a great prospect for us if we give him time and to his credit he wants to stay and fight for his place. Even a plastic club like Chelsea have given Torres some slack. Sell Carroll after one season? - Liverpool are surely a better football club than this?

RedAce.

I don't think we need andy Carroll to be a tika taka master at all. We need a back up plan and I mean no disrespect by this as I rate him. But sometimes you can't always win just by passing it a about. Carroll would have been great against hearts with all the crosses that came in and sometimes route 1 is the the route needed

First off, well done to our boys last night! Yes, it wasn't a seemless victory but it was a victory none the less! Both Sterling and Allen did great imo. I hope both Raheem and Assaldi play against City.

A couple of days ago, I said that I think that we may have a new signing by the Man City Game and or by the end of the weekend.....looks like it may actually happen and it looks like I may be wrong for doubting that Sahin may just come to us!

However, again this season we could be in hot water! What in the world is Brendan doing talking about Nuri?! He is not our player and after its recently come out that Fulham have made a complaint against us and also after that 'Dempsey has signed for LFC' fiasco with the FSG site...you would have thought that we would have learned our lesson! Ovbiously not!

Don't get me wrong, I would love to have Sahin in our team (as a I have also said on a few occasions)....but not like this to be honest! I agree 100% with Ed001.....its not the Liverpool way!

I really hope this doesn't end badly!

Would love to hear everyone elses thoughts

Thanks all,

K.Bennett

Ps, if Sahin does come....I want to say credit is due to Maisey (she did call it recently) and to Macca (who said it a while back). Here's hoping the club feel as Ed002 does and we go for Alvaro Negredo

I don't think that Rogers did anything wrong in regards to what he said about Sahin.
He was simply asked a question about him and said that confirmation was being awaited and he is a good player.
He never even mentioned him by name.

Hi ed 052 has sahin sighned on loan or is it still up in the air?thanks stu. {Ed052's Note - He will sign on loan today I should think. We will know at about 2pm}

Because of the press conference? {Ed052's Note - Yes mate - he will be asked about transfers, so we will find a bit out}

Liverpool have accepted a £3m bid from an unnamed Championship club this morning, Bolton Wanderers and Nottingham Forrest are the most likely bidders but Spearing has also been linked with Leicester City and Blackburn Rovers. Liverpool have signed Real Madrid midfielder Nuri Sahin on a season long loan while Jonjo Shelvey is set to go out on a season long loan to Wigan. Brendan Rodgers is planning a £14m move for Daniel Sturridge, Chelsea are in talks to sign an unnamed striker belived to be Edison Cavani and after adding Hazard and Marin to play wide his first team opportunities look limited. Rodgers wants to keep Andy Carroll and wants Sturridge to mainly play on the right of a front three with Suarez left and then either Carroll or more likely Borini in the middle. Liverpool still want rid of Joe Cole but he is looking likely to stay at this present time. Charlie Adam will be allowed to leave once Sahin is confirmed, Everton,Sunderland and Fulham are all interested in the Scottish midfielder. Liverpool transfers out-Aurelio,Kuyt,Maxi,Aquilani,Bellamy,Spearing,Shelvey{loan},Adam, transfers in-Borini,Allen,Assaildi,Sahin{loan},Sturridge not a bad summer IMO

I said several weeks ago Leicester were interested in him. I wouldn't be surprised if that's where he ends up. RED LENIN

Why wouldwe pay more than what chelsea paid wigan for moses for d sturridge,he s excess baggage to them now {Ed002's Note - Moses is effectively a replacement for Kalou.}

Fantastic news if all came to be regarding Liverpool, but please no to Sturridge he really is awful let it be Dempsey. A season long loan to Wigan for Shelvey is exactly what he needs, he'd develop perfectly under Martinez.

Please be wrong about Sturridge

My guess is Bolton, whether its a loan or a permanent deal. Its a decent club and only about an hour on the motorway from Liverpool. I think Owen Coyle would do a good job in turning Jay into a much better player, with Jay getting a good run of games, rather than being a bit part player at Liverpool.

I would rather loan shelvey to swansea r west ham his fav team swansea because he would play r style west ham so he can be close to his family.I wouldnt lend any players to wigan after the way they went on,martinez thinks he is the greatest thing since sliced bread and whealan is big mouth knob who loves purple nose.Tommy Irish Red

Hi eds, the BBC are reporting that there is an option to buy on the sahin loan deal. Do you have any idea if this is correct? Most of the broadsheets seem to disagree.

Also this was a great one for Macca {Ed052's Note - I've seen that rumours. I can not see it being true - isn't that what destroyed the Arsenal deal. The figure floating about in only around £13 mill, which would be a bargain}

They have since changed that to saying we will not have an option. As mirrored by the Echo.

A bit disappointing but Sahin is a great player so we'll take what we can get!

Ojay

Ed052,i think its a case of sahin personally not wanting to leave madrid,hes looking to get his career at madrid back on track by hopfully useing this loan year to improve and show madrid what he can do,but at the end of the loan and he hasnt done enough to convince madrid he is good enough you never know he may want to sign for lfc,but then it raises the possibility that lfc dont want him either,cause he didnt live up to expectations.its a tricky one,i think arsenals thinking was they wanted him to be more flexable and to at least agree to joining them in princible permanantly if they wanted him after the loan deal expired but i think sahin is steadfastly saying no to that and is adament he is going back to madrid.therefore arsenal quite rightly wont agree to this because
A.it puts arsenal back in the same boat next may (needing a midfielder)
B.players that are availiable now to fill this role will not be availiable next summer
C.arsenal wont be used as a finishing school be sahin to further his carreer elsewhere.
arsene wenger prob feels once they have sahin in the door he will convince him to stay after the loan deal,but if the player refuses point blank to consider this as an option,then arsenal wont be held to ransom, as i have already mentioned they could well miss out on a player now and be left kicking themselves next summer for not getting him if sahin was to give them the middle finger wave

If we ended up tying up deals for Theo Walcott, Nuri Sahin and one of (or both) Daniel Sturridge and/or Clint Dempsey I'd be very happy! {Ed052's Note - I believe we will sign both Sahin and Dempsey, and perhaps one other depending on departures}

24 Aug 2012 10:25:07
i was always under the impression that if you fancy a player you agree terms with the selling club first,then and only then permission is given for you to speak to the player to agree his terms,inbetween all this you put unofficial feelers out to see if the player actually wants to come to your club.now then for liverpool fc to have annouced the transfer of dempsey to lfc on their website then rapidly remove it points to only one conclussion,TAPPING UP has gone on,some silly buggers at lfc and lfc.com have got their wires crossed and when they heard "weve spoken to him hes happy and defo coming to us" they naturally thought its official and printed it,talk about getting caught with your pants down.lfc,s standards since fsg have taken over have slipped appallingly and if the rumours are to be believed that sahin and arsenal didnt agree on a deal cause sahin wants to go back to madrid and arsenal refused to be used as a training school for madrid.what does this say about how far this once great club have slipped,i mean anyone can come upon difficult times but does that mean the moral rules and dignity you have lived your hole life by get thrown in the bin cause its easier to be a rat if you act like a rat.no doubt the disagree button will be hammered,but will that not also only serve to show that the club now have a sizeable group of fans that dont care a jot about what they have to do to get to the top the end justifies the means.then if that is the case there is nothing special about liverpool football club or its fans anymore, .THE KING IS DEAD LONG LIVE THE KING
anon

You sir are a putts. the deal as you call it was on a website run by nsev not fsg. but you would rather believe the media nonsense than you read in the newspaper. i suspect you are a manc {Ed002's Note - The complaint has nothing whatsoever to do with the website issue.}

Do you know the detail ed02? If it's simply down to the breif note made by BR at a press conference then it's totally ridiculous. Was something said that will come out?

Flagg {Ed002's Note - It is down to what was said by two employees of the club and I would expect they will each be sent a strongly worded letter saying don't mention players who belong to other clubs.}

Ed002,i beg to differ it has everything to do with the website article.fulham fc have apparrently mentioned it in their complaint to the F.A. .and to the poster who says the website has nothing to do with lfc lmao are you serious,fsg employ experts to build and run a website for them,the communications department at lfc relays everything to the online site that is printed,lfc will actually have employees from the club on full time secondment to nsez.all content on lfc.com comes direct from lfc,nsez will absolutly not in anyway contribute to or edit in anyway the info that is published on the website without proof reading and the full consent of liverpool fc {Ed002's Note - The complaint explicitly names two members of staff. There are no members of the Liverpool staff on secondment to NESV. There is a consultancy in Hartford, CT that provides communications support and handles all matters pertaining to feedback from press sources, web sites etc. to FSG in the United States.}

Cheers ed

Press conference at 2pm today, "ahead of the City game" it reads on the LFC site, and could this be confirmation that the Sahin deal is wrapped up?........ Has anymore news emerged on Gaston Ramirez yet?, or is his move to a premier league team now dead. Ant B {Ed052's Note - he will no doubt be asked about signings at the conference, and no doubt give us a little bit more juicy info to get far too excited about}

24 Aug 2012 10:20:20
It's clear we need a goal scorer still... or we need the FA to make goal posts about an inch further apart either side. From what I can see on here it's basically Dempsey or Sturridge. Is that the case or are there other strikers linked?

Personally I'd take Dempsey out of those two as he's more proven but he seems costly considering his age. Sturridge looks like he's always trying too hard to impress and possibly believes he's better than he actually is (penalty in Euros a case in point).

I can't believe that BR hasn't got his eyes on a proper young striking talent, or does he think the likes of Morgan will step up this season? How likely do we think it is that BR will spring a surprise on us all?

Great work on the site eds, and one last thing, from what I saw on TV last night the Hearts supporters looked fantastic. Great support for their team, let's hope Anfield can go one better next week.

I really wouldn't be surprised if BR has another trick up his sleeve, Assaidi has been his 1st..... And for his next trick?.... He and those within LFC leave us to chat amongst ourselves

Soldado is the surprise attacker we will get, as with most fsg business it is secretive ,I have assurances from within the group that he will be with us before deadline day {Ed052's Note - He signed a new contract. He wont be signing}

Could you not have taken the time to check the length of Soldado's new contract before posting this ........

Ed52 - it was a good story up until your comment, spoil sport! {Ed052's Note - HAHA. I've got one. We going to sign Messi. Does that get you excited?}

Contracts, contracts, contracts......does anybody believe contracts are guaranteed to keep a player at a club anymore?

Are we really getting Messi, Ed? {Ed052's Note - No}

24 Aug 2012 10:15:01
Hi Eds heard a few rumours now that Celtic are gonna come in with a bid for Charlie Adam. Although he's ex rangers I'm sure this move would suit Adam a lot more than moving to that London with fulham and also give Liverpool some spending money. Have any of the Ed's heard anything about this?
A reply would be greatly appreciated great site very addictive

Ryan {Ed052's Note - Even if they did, he wouldn't move}

Is lardy willing to move anywhere then?

Would like to know people's opinion on the Sahin saga IF he comes, it seems his preference is / was Arsenal, do ppl feel we should only be looking for players who really want to come ? or should we as fans be less sentimental and realise not everyone grows up being a Red ? and just get in the best we can into the club

His preference was real Madrid. If the lad comes let's make him feel welcome and he might want to stay.
Red sheep.

Provided the club is run on a financially sound basis and the guy trys his hardest week in week out I don't care less what the club pay him.

If you grow up drinking Coca Cola would you reject a good job at Pepsi because it wasn't your favourite? These guys are professionals and a good pro will give his all to whoever is paying his wages. Red sheep has it bang on. If we show him we are a great club to play for with great support and play good football, he might want to stay. And by the way, this guy is a top, top player.

Sahin today, Sturridge next week, and a young player will conclude our transfer activity.

You may well be correct about the young player , Jack Butland is being mentioned more and more at Melwood ........

Why Butland? I checked him out on Wikipedia and do you know how many goals he's scored at his previous clubs? NONE.

Eds: Do you think Sahin's (if he comes) role in the team would change Gerrard's role? Would he possibly be pushed up as a forward, or would he be rotaded together with Allen and Sahin (plus Henderson and Adam)?

erik_Oslo {Ed052's Note - Yes, I'm not sure Gerrard will play.}

Ed is this because of his rumoured injury problem? (something has gone sorely wrong with his groin operation?) Or are you just bring sarcastic? {Ed052's Note - No, just he's not good enough anymore. He was trully awful against West Brom. There are just better players in the midfield than him.}

I would like to see stevie become an impact sub

Disagree ed, he is good enough, just not good enough to play every game anymore, he still has it in flashes just not able to sustain it ie 2 gamesin four days

Are you taing the mick ed {Ed052's Note - No, I've explained my view}

I think thats a bit unfair ED, he had one bad game.....and if you look at his performances in the euros that shows he can still play effectively at the top level. I expect him to be rotated but play all the big games. {Ed052's Note - He didn't play well last year either tho, and not too well in 2010 either.His performances are dropping. All the Euros show is that he can play in a slow, boring game, not for us, 60 games a year, fast fluid football. Yes, he will be rotated - I cannot see him stating every game tho. A lot more bench time I would have though}

Ed i agree with you who do you think will take the captains armband when Gerard dont start. I think it will be Raina but i dont really agree the a keeper should have the armband as they are away from the action to much

wildwelshman {Ed052's Note - Lucas}

Agree with ed052, our decline in the league coincided with the return to fitness of gerrard and the injury to adam

24 Aug 2012 10:09:10
As previous posts have stated didnt we pass back to Reina an awful lot last night, this must be Rodgers tactics. Well I'm afraid its terible to watch. Some good performances, some not so good like Henderson, Borini, Shelvey and doesnt Carragher look knackered.

Couldnt help but notice howmuch we retained possesion at the back,a bit silly i think as we will get caught out there a few times this seasn, esp atthe start of games when attackers are fresh, i d leave this tippy tappy at the back until after the first twenty mins and first and foremost focus on clearing it {Ed052's Note -

I think gerrard will be usedwisely by brendan this season, and he wont be playing 2 games per week anymore so when he does play he ll be fresh and ready for it,stevie has been ageing and on a downhill slide for acouple ofyears. its time to start using himwisely and sparingly to protect him from further serious injuries

tom1975

This was what Rodgers referred to as positioning problems in the first half. Basically a bad starting position and lack of movement in midfield meant the defence had to wait for a midfielder to become free in order to pass leading to some close calls. All changed in 2nd half with Allen coming on, always free and knows early what he wants to do with the ball. Will be a great player for us.

Simon

I agree, too much at the back. Problem is though that our midfield isn't good enough or assertive enough to maintain posession up the field. That's been our problem the past few years.

Ojay

Hell i will take the back passes and possesion over hoof it back to the opposition anyday

24 Aug 2012 09:59:36
I'm wondering if people were watching a different game to me last night. Lots of negativity again despite some positive signs in my opinion.
As much as the passing was slightly off in the first half, I thought Henderson was actually pretty good, neat and tidy and kept us moving well. Kelly for me should be first choice now, always impressed by this guy, strong in the tackle and positive with the ball. Agger was his usual assured self, and Robinson looks a very good prospect at left back. I think in sterling we have a very very good player. Clearly he has to mature, both in his body tone etc but also in his mind, BUT he already reads the game very well, he's unselfish, gets his head up and looks to attack his full back whenever he's on the ball. Borini looked good to me too, lots of good movement and positioning, with better service might've bagged a couple last night.
And then Joe Allen. For me, when he came on, our whole dynamic changed and we instantly looked a better side. He was always looking to have the ball, played it simple but effective, and won the ball back quickly when we lost it. A very very good player that people need to support, as he's going to be a huge player for us.
Looking at what would be our 'first choice' 11, there are lots of positives. Certain players last night didn't cover themselves in glory but I'm Brendan Rodgers knows that, and we are doing the whole team a disservice by slagging them off. Trust the manager to do the right thing, which he certainly is doing by bringing in Sahin. A great signing.
So, in my opinion, lots to be happy about, just have patience and it WILL come together.
That is all.

The captain

Hearts looked the better side.

I'm with you on this...

The trouble is people keep saying give the kids the chance...

Then when we do they moan because they've done something there not happy about.

LAVERS

People are blind to whats going on sadly. We are not in a position to go and splash millions on 'hollywood' players, so we have to promote from within and also make shrewd judgements in the Market place. People will no doubt shoot me down on Joe Allen and say we've overpaid, but this guy is easily worth what we've paid, that was clear to see last night. As it's clear to see with Borini. I just hope people give them time, if we don't then we'll be even further behind. Good times ahead folks

The captain

Hearts played at their optimum and still couldnt score against lets be honest a weakened LFC team.

Lots of positives, but lots to work on.

Allen and Sterling - Excellent

Henderson and Kelly - consistent

YNWA jns {Ed052's Note - Kelly should be in the excelent category IMO}

Raheem was excellent first half, he should be getting the odd 20-30 mins in premier league games soon, which is enough time for him i think, he was good defensively aswell as offensively last night.im a little concerned that suso is not being given more time because from the summer games he looked closer to the first team than sterling did

jonjo had an awful game last night

one clear thing inoticed last night, because we tried to keep possesion and keep hearts chasing shadows they got knackered at the end of the game and then we started knocking it about with ease. this is the tika taka idea no? knacker them out then pick them off, yes hearts played well, but what would you expect in front of vocal home support and with them wanting to put right the 5-0 thrashing by spurs last season {Ed052's Note - ye smate, exactly right. I agree with everything you say}

Good post captain
tel 1949

Problem is Kelly played quite bad against WBA imo. I'd prefer to see him play CB more as he isn't slow and he is competitive in the air.

Have to agree with ED, Kelly is a superb player. In my opinion he does everything well, strong in the tackle, excellent in the air, very rarely gives the ball away, skilful and positive in attack. For me, should be first choice at right back.
I'm also in agreement with Eds opinion elsewhere today that Gerrard isn't necessarily first name on the team sheet anymore. But that's another discussion.

The captain

Gerrard should be used sparingly and wisely this season, he cant play 2 games a week anymore, ithink brendan knows this and this is why nuri is being brought in, for example gerrard destroys gomel and a few days later cant cope with west brom,stevie is getting old lets use himwisely cos on his day he sstill oneof our most potent attackers

tom1975

Eye eye captain, i am with you on this one. i think we have some very promising young players out there who will become great in the next couple of years. safa

Been saying it for years about Cara, he's a good brick wall but a terrible footballer and now he's lost whatever pace and mobility he had he's getting found out all of the time. He's unable to last the pace now (just look at him after 5 minutes of play) and he can't pass the ball to save his life, I've never played pro football in my life, just pub teams and stuff but I can pass the ball better with my weak foot than he can with either (too old now though). Thats what really annoys me about pro footballers, they should all be able to do that, its not difficult it just requires effort. I remember teaching myself to do that, I was determined to be able to play with both feet. I think it's about time he made the managers decision for him. Pro footballers should all be better than the man in the street but I've genuinely seen some pub players who could really have been better than Cara, they just didn't have the opportunity, it doesn't work out for everyone. On a brighter note I thought Allen looked very good when he came on, very assured on the ball, always wanted it and good movement off the ball to receive it. If that's the kind of signing we're going to make then we may just be ok.

This is laughable, if Carrager played at a lower level he would look technically brilliant. He only looks bad because the pace of things and the other players closing space down so quickly. If you or any of the other unlucky pub players you speak about tried to play at that level you would look a lot worse Han him!

He's a pro for a reason, pub players play for pub teams for a reason, they are and never were good enough, not unlucky, just not good enough, soft lad

That's total horses**t, go out into the big wide world and have a look for yourself to see how many players don't make it but are better than some of the sh**e you see turning out for Lfc and other clubs. Why do you think that Glen Hoddle started up his academy in France? It's because he knows how many players don't get a fair crack. Just because cara made it at Liverpool doesn't mean that he's brilliant, put him back twenty five years and he would be lucky to get anywhere near our reserve team. A good brick wall with lots of heart, that's all he is and all he ever will be. But hey if you're happy with that level of player then who am I to say you're wrong, just get used to mediocrity.

Right dingbats I wasn't saying I could have made it as a pro, like may on here you're missing the point. The point I was trying to make was that if someone with very little footballing ability can do a basic thing like use both feet then what does that tell you about the ability of a professional who can't pass properly with his good foot? Also I wasn't talking about pub players, there are thousands of really good lads out there who for one reason or another don't make it. It isn't just because they aren't good enough, do you really think that everyone that's good enough actually makes it?

I don't think anyone can knock carragher's commitment and what he's achieved in his career but nobody can say that he's technically gifted . He's like a hero who would jump in front of a car to save a dog but would then get up and throw it in front of a truck..

24 Aug 2012 09:58:03
If we sign sahin then I think we will play with sahin Lucas and Allen as a midfield 3.

Gerrard, Suarez and borini as attacking 3.

Will free up Gerrard to help get us some goals!

One thing that worries me reading this page is that their are obviously other club supporters (Mancs, Bitter Blues, etc) coming on the page and pretending to be supporters of our club and making mischief, but also their are Liverpool supporters who seem to know very little about football.
We have always been known for our knowledge of the game and respected for that, but some of the comments ( if from LFC supporters) show that is slipping. I just hope they are from kids still on school hols. If so, get outside and play some football !

Supporters from other clubs quite often seem more obsessed with whats going on at our club rather than their own. Man utd, Everton, Chelsea and Spurs fans seem to be the worst for this and I think that a lot of the dross that appears on this page come from them. They should concentrate more on their own clubs Imo.

It's funny how every one is claiming to be in the know about Nuri Sahin, including some journalists just after Rodgers came out and said the deal was close. If that's investigative journalism then sign me up!

In other news has there been any update on Sturridge to Liverpool? anything in these rumors Eds?

Also heard we are looking at another striker any idea who this is?

Thanks for any info you can give eds keep up the hard work.

Heard from a good source from someone ITK at Villa and there saying that they are close to getting Andy Carroll on loan with a view to buy at the end for around £18m with a £3m loan fee.... Not saying its true just passing on what I've heard...I personally find it strange after BR' s comments the other day... Again just what I've been told

This is my spin on things.
Liverpool Football Club are one of the top four clubs in the world (never mind EPL). The others are Barca, R Madrid and are arch enemies, Man U
Over the last few years due to their success, Man U have attained too much politic power in the English game and have used it to damage their main threat in the EPL, us. The other clubs do not have anywhere the global or national support our great club has (did you see the LFC v Spurs game in the USA?)
The only other clubs who resist Man U political power are Barca and R Madrid.
Mourinho knows the score and wants the balanced redressed so that Man U stop their fascist like hold on the EPL. He has become a friend of LFC and having Brendan Rogers at the helm has been a big boost.
This is why the Sahin deal is a big moment in the restructuring of our club and Alonso, I think, will be involved one way or another in this.
I would not be surprised to see more R Madrid / LFC 'cooperation' to fight the political power of Man U

Wow that was like an episode of "The X Files"

If Agger and Carroll stay, Adam goes and Sahin definitely signs then I think FSG and Rodgers have had a good summer.

I just hope this team can gel and full-fill its potential.

NS

How will it be a good summer if carrol is still here? Sell carrol for 15 million, get dempsey for 6 million, n sign sahin on loan. Thats what i wud call a good summer window.
Indian Buzzer

Still need a proper goal scorer mate. Borini is only young and needs time. Big andy is too inconsistant for us.

Carroll hasn't played how can he be written off... He is an good option to have!

I agree we need a striker, Dempsey isn't an out and out striker so don't think he is the solution - but he will come in with Adam leaving.

Sahin in on loan, Theo Walcott in, Clint Dempsey in with Charlie Adam going the other way as part of the deal, Carroll sold for £17m and Daniel Sturridge coming in and that would be a good summer.
The options for the attacking three then would be:
Luis Suarez, Theo Walcott, Daniel Sturridge, Fabio Borini, Clint Dempsey, Oussama Assaidi, Raheem Sterling, Stewart Downing and Adam Morgan - now thats a squad that wouldn't be short on goals.
Players that I still think will leave are:
Charlie Adam, Jay Spearing, Daniel Pacheco and Andy Carroll.
The options for the midfield three would then be:
Steven Gerrard, Lucas Leiva, Joe Allen, Nuri Sahin, Jonjo Shelvey, Jordan Henderson, Suso and Conor Coady.

24 Aug 2012 09:36:06
just a quick opinion on last nights match, i thought hendo had a decent game, shelvey must be going on loan to hearts he seemed to find their players far more then ours he even tackled downing, adam, spearing moderate without setting the world alight, borini movement very good a couple of close offsides went against him and hit his shot to well when striking the post other then that he had to feed off scraps, dont need to say to much about sterling his performance said it all and it was nice to see reina actually make a couple of saves unlike last year

24 Aug 2012 09:34:56
Hope the sahin rumours are true , he's exactly what we need.

He will be a good link up between midfield and the forwards.
What we've been missing since alonso left.

LAVERS

Totally agree Lavers.

Question is with all players fit which 6 will start?

Will Sahin sit along side Lucas with Gerrard infront!? or will Gerrard sit along side Lucas with Sahin.

The combinations are endless which will make us less predictable this season.

Cant wait to see the line up agaianst MCFC if Sahin is signed and included in the squad!

YNWA jns

Wats happens to allen then?

24 Aug 2012 09:34:44
Shelvey, Borini, Henderson all very poor last night. And whats all this passing back to Reina all the time?

Borini wasnt poor, he made excellent runs all night, lack of service from midfield was more the issue!

In what way was Henderson Poor!
I'm guessing you didn't watch the game
and are just one of the many who
are prejudiced against him what ever
grow Man/Boy

I agree that Shelvey had a poor game but I thought Henderson played very well as did Borini. Henderson's energy is unreal and played in his best position will thrive under BR. Borini made some excellent runs only for passes to be over hit, Shelvey, or an over keen linesman to halt him. For me big pluses from the game were Raheem, Hendo, Borini and Allen when he came on. Negatives Carra is a legend but has to retire, Spearing gives his heart and sole but just is not good enough, which was highlighted by the impact Joe Allen made when he came on, Shelvey has to go out on loan and Adam doesnt even shine against poor opposition and we need to recoup as much as we can for him and move on.

24 Aug 2012 09:34:41
I think it will be a continuous rotation in midfield between gerrard Lucas Allen and sahin (these players will feature more in epl matches). Henderson shelvey and hopefully suso will get their playing time in domestic cup games and Europa league which is great. Spearing and Adam (unless he still clings on to Liverpool) get moved on to make space in a congested midfield. Cole will just me a small time squad player that comes on as a sub. Impact sub...without the impact.

Gerrard Lucas Allen sahin Henderson shelvey suso and cole is a pretty good midfield of you ask me. Alot of depth

Now all we need is a striker...something we just seem to avoid

Thought they did OK last night. Interesting you mention the passing back and Reina was always looking for a pass too. I think this will be the way we play this season especially away from home. Hearts pressed well into our half so it got quite frustrating. Better midfielders should be able to counteract this though.

24 Aug 2012 09:34:05
Good result ,last night hearts played out of their skin and our b team still did the job.

Just want to talk about Henderson , I feel he is pants out on the right , not the lads fault he is playing out of position but he just can't move forward or play wide. I hope he gets a chance to show what he can do in the middle , but I doubt he will.

He gets loads of stick but remember 20m price not his fault , and he is no right midfielder.

Need a right mid who can go past the half way line!!

How difficult is it to learn how to pass the ball forward and not just sideways and back wards. Adam was working hard and would prefer him to stay, the three plays I wont mind leaving would be Henderson, Spearing and Shelvey

Hearts did play out of their skin and deserved at least a draw. You have to remember that the majority of the Hearst squad are kids as well, 17, 18 19 year olds, they done well considering you had a few £10m + players.

I think they might just make a fist of it next week.

Is Brendan Rodgers tactics 'Pass back to the keeper at all accounts' cos thats all we done last night. Boring, Boring, Boring! And please, as stated previously, show some emotion and encouragement on the touchline.

The attitude of some fans is truly ridiculous! There's only so much Rodgers can do with players that simply aren't good enough (Adam, Spearing). As soon as Joe Allen came on his class showed, we played 10 yards further up the pitch and started to keep the ball much better!

Also, why is it so important that he shows emotion? When we won the Champions League in 2005 I didn't hear people complaining about Rafa and how he didn't even bat an eyelid when Dudek saved Shevchenko's pen!!

Get a grip.

Stone YNWA.

People want champagne football after 5 minutes, with essentially our reserve side, and since when does visibly showing emotion make you a good manager?

Stone. Mate last year we were more entertaining to watch and everyone incuding ed1 sayed we only needed a striker to push for top4 but since rodgers has taken the manager job things are looking worst and we are going backwards mate. They are no excuses as how player are bad or blah blah coz when he took the job he knew the task.

Well, all that amazing football last year left us out of champions league?! Left us how many points behind top two. You need to move on. Look at di mateo , he did terrible job at wba. Got Cfc job steady the ship and now look, playing decent football. Just takes time. Once everyone gets used to the tactics and style it will click. It will become more direct.

Do you build a house over night? Do you build a successful business over night? no.

Common sense is missing in football!

Is sahin deal with or without an option to buy? I hope it is with one because he will be great for us, a combination of mascherano and alonso. Also seems a bit funny to be getting excited about a loan deal if he will just go back to spain next year. Either way will definitely improve the squad. Johndog

24 Aug 2012 09:25:32
As it now looks likely Sahin will sign. Will the 'preferred' midfield 3 be Lucas, Allen & Sahin. If so, will Gerrard occasionally be moved forward into a more attacking role (either on the right of a 3 or playing as the main striker)

Personally, I think this would be really good for Stevie G, would be interested in the thoughts of others on this

AKN

As things stand stevieg could be the best option for us playing in and around suarez and borini but even if carroll stays we need another striker steviep62

Hi ed. I just wanted an informed opinion of what you think of the tiki taka style? To me ( an I am just a lay person) it seems so predictable?? Thanks {Ed052's Note - It is predicatble, but it works game after game - it has to. It tyres the opposition out soooo much when you have the ball, that they leave gaps and holes that you need to take advantage of. For example, we played Tika Taka badly yesterday, but Hearts got tired, and we scored. As we get better, we score more. Even against West Brom first Half, gaps appeared due to all the passing etc. If we play it well - it will work.}

Thanks ed, I can't really say I've seen many teams play that way before, I guess it will just take time to bed in

Hi Eds, I would give Kelly a chance at CB over Carra, Sterling a chance over downing. With Sahin possibly coming in that would allow Gerrard the possibility of playing in a front 3 and add more options in midfield. If we add another winger and a striker (Johnson/Sturridge) the team would begin to look very threatening. Outs have to be Adam, Spearing, Shelvey and unfortunately Carroll as I can't see him being given a chance. I think Agger may go too so another defender would have to be bought in case Coates/Kelly cannot fill the void. Thoughts? {Ed052's Note - Coates at CB for me}

Kelly at cb forme, i think he s gonna be carra s long term replacement ,plays with a lot of heart and is a ferocious tackler

24 Aug 2012 09:04:35
Hi Eds/fellow Reds.
Seems like my source got it wrong about Sahin not being our next signing (I did say it was a 50/50 source mind) but he's still sure we're bringing in another forward, wouldn't divulge who though. I really don't see where another 'forward' would fit in though - I think we need to be looking at the wide role more - unless we're playing Suarez on the right, Borini on the left. Also, after Sterlings performance last night, I think in a few months time he'll really be pushing Downing and Asssaidi if he keeps playing like that. For a 17 year old he is damn good, hasn't quite got the physique yet but hes pretty much got everything else!

Os Red

We need a striker...A STRIKER!

After all the negative comments on here the last few weeks,today we should finally get a big boost that we needed. Sahin is a world class footballer, and a midfield 3 of Sahin, Lucas and Allen surely have to be one of the most technically gifted in the Prem. If we can get a proven goalscorer in by next Friday aswel as the Dempsey signing i will be very happy with our summer activity.

Clearly you never watched him at Dortmund. He's world class. But Alonso, Di Maria, Khedira and Ozil are better. Come on like. If he couldn't get into the Wigan side then I accept your comment. With Real Madrid though... You look and sound a unenviable fool.

The only reason he didnt play is becouse of a injury you fool! And mourinho would want him after he's game fit thats why its a loan!

He will be Alonso's successor next season at RM, when Xabi comes back to LFC.

Why do you think he said he only wants to loan him and not sell him. he wants him back! hes a great talent and hopefully when he goes back to madrid xabi comes back to us then sahin will be in the starting 11

James Pearce ( Liverpool Echo) today reporting that the Sahin deal should be completed today. He is normally very reliable and prints genuine stories, so Im happy with this news!

Apparently there is no option to buy the player after 12 months, and both RM and the player both wanted this at this moment in time.

May explain why Arsenal not getting him? As they are a commited 'selling club' they generally only take players on that give them a nice big profit margin in the future.

Arsenal have made over £120 million on players they have bought from Real Madrid over the last 10 years, not a bad return !

Looks like Madrid are saying 'enough is enough, we dont mind putting player out to gain experience, but your not getting option to buy at this moment'

Who cares? Sahin will be great for us, a real class player and strong addition to the team who will become hero worshipped in no time at all

Instead of talking about who is going where, let's talk about how 35 million was wasted on one player and how much King Kenny got from the Torres deal?
Aside from throwing away millions on a forward who can't stay on his feet, let's not forget the others who sometimes play and who are often injured, and who pull in big bucks!
Whether this passes the mustard and gets posted who knows, but let's get away from the fantasy island and start talking football.
Next, you'll be posting a comment on how Liverpool are great and they're going to win the league!
The reality is clear... Let's have some decent debate and not the realms of The Wizard Of Oz!

Good result last night but not a good performance. Borini, Henderson and Shelvey just not good enough. I wish Rodgers would show some emotion on the touch line, he does not give you much confidence.

Borini not good enuff? I thought his movement was exellent,

Scouseme {Ed052's Note - He has one miss - but he held the ball up well, had a few tricks, quick passing. He looked good, didn't get frustrated and ran all game. You cannot ask for more.}

I think Borini is a decent player and a good addition. However, I don't believe he's good enough to lead the line week in week out. For me, he's like an upgrade on Ngog, who a season or two ago started way too many matches leading the line and we struggled because of it.

We need a world class front man and Borini as the alternative in any of the front 3 positions.

JimmyHustle

He looked hungry, wanted to score and was unlucky not to. Falsely called offside as well, he showed good signs. Johndig

He missed more than 1 ed. Two great balls into the box and didnt get a boot on either. Luckily 1 deflected of a Hearts player and scored.

How poor was that game spearing, adam,henderson, shelvey are garbage, i have never seen a team pass the back to the kepper as much they could put a glasseye to sleep , also hard to say but carra is finished he cant jump or run any more and on the ball he is a ancident waiting to happen, also we need a forward borini not quite goodenough at the moment

Henderson did alright but i agree with the rest.
RB {Ed052's Note - I think Hendo was good - neat and tidy which is what you need}

Also agree, Hendo decent and put in a couple of great passes. Unlucky with that ball one over the top to Borini in 2nd half that was flagged offside when it wasn't

Hendo did ok, certainly put an effort in. Spearing tried but is, unfortunately, limited. Adam had a couple of good moments but in the main was poor. Same for Shelvey, although the boy clearly has the talent. I thought Borini had made some great runs, a couple of poor lino's flags spoiled what could have been a 2 0r 3 goal haul. Yes, he should have scored, but even God missed the occasional sitter. Give him a few games and I think we'll see that BR made a great signing. Actually, Allen showed that ahs already happened. He came on and we totally controlled the midfield. Class player.

Flagg

I think adam was better than all of them. Wont be difficult to sell him

24 Aug 2012 08:15:16
I know a lot of people on here are circling like sharks around some of our team , but lets get down to some sort of realism.

Firstly Charlie Adam is a very inventive type of footballer when allowed to play his natural role, and that is definitely NOT a defensive midfielder. last season he was in great form playing alongside Lucas, shame he got injured. At times he can be a little overawed by players like Gerard but his time will come. When he is confident he can boss the middle of the park as good as anyone.

Its easy to give a player stick, and just follow a trend between whingeing supporters, but its not good for either the player or the club, so why do it ?

Charlie is our only real natural left footed midfielder in centre midfield and its crucial we have someone who can do this role. He is a class player who, when he is match fit and feeling confident, can put the ball on a sixpence whenever he wants. He did it with his previous team, so he therefore can do it with us.

Just for once can I seriously ask some so called 'supporters' to get off his back. He played well last night and although not fully fit just yet, he demonstrated to me that he certainly has a role to play at Liverpool.

If we lose him, I guarantee he will come back to haunt us. Hes one of us, so stop all the whingeing.

Oh, and before anyone starts replying with 'but we have a right to voice our opinions if we dont like a player, we are supporters'...... try using some intelligence for a change.

What objective does it achieve by constantly moaning ? Is it good for the club or the player ? Of course it isn't, so please keep you thoughts to yourself and once, JUST ONCE, try acting like REAL supporters as we witnessed last night at that wonderful club called Hearts. Great support and atmosphere, really took me back to the good old days at Anfield.

ps Charlie Adam has demonstrated on more than one occasion that he is a genuinely decent human being along with his new wife Sophie, and I for one wish him every success at our great club

Tel 1949

Good post mate:)

Good game last night by charlie but sahin is a leftie

I agree with you Tel, he played very well last night mate. Bar from Sterling, the best player on the pitch. It was nice to see him spraying balls from left to right, and driving forward then having a shot on the attack. I do however feel if Sahin comes in, the opportunities may become limit for him.

Sam Adzii jft96

If anything yesterday was as clear a hint as you can get that Adam will not fit the style of play that BR is trying to implement.

Yes spraying balls left and right - hollywood balls look very good but are hit and hope passes. He was still caught in possession a lot of times. He resisted stupid tackles when robbed of the ball which is an improvement but if you notice the positional play and spatial awareness of Allen, when he came on, and Henderson, to an extent, you will see how bad the performances of Adam and Spearing were Shelvey was a bit considerate with the ball and possession in the beginning but later on he too was poor. Agger attempted and completed the most passes than any other LFC player yesterday. It is not very encouraging to see a defender pass more often than you midfielders when the team is trying to play a patient passing game.
I could see Adam, Spearing and Shelvey coming deep to receive the ball only to make a pre-meditated backpass to Agger or Reina.
On the whole the signs were encouraging - you could see the team as a unit trying to recycle as much as possible bar a few hoofs under pressure. Borini was excellent with his runs and positioning but a bit disappointing with his finishing which, will hopefully turns out to be early season jitters and improve as the season grows.
Sterling was excellent but is still young and raw and doesn't have the composure to pick the right moments to pass or shoot but it will only come with experience.
RedRay

He did it with his previous club because he was the star player in a team fighting for relegation. He could misplace/overhit 5 or 6 passes for every one that came off and it didn't matter.

If sahin comes, adam will be 7th choice midfielder. Gerrard, lucas, allen, sahin, hendo, shelvey, adam. Dont think we need adam any more, unless shelvey goes on loan.
Indian Buzzer

Well, i am sorry to disagree. Im not going to base my decision on a game against Hearts but Adam lacks the pace and the tackling ability to play for a top team like Liverpool. He was outstanding for Blackpool who based their whole team around Adam getting a free role. Thats not going to happen at Anfield. Adam is a very nice bloke but i would be very surprised if he and Spearing are here at the end of the transfer window if Sahin signs. If this does happen i hope he has a succesful career, but i just dont think it will be at Anfield.

The Irish Rover

Adam was awful last night.....too slow, gave no cover, lost the ball frequently
, too many hollywood passes and poor shooting.......if we get £5m+ we should lose him ...he is not part of the future

Shushyboy {Ed052's Note - No he wasn't!! He played like he did at Balckpool. Good passing, busts forward, and three or four fantastic long shots, as well as better corners. An all-round better game for Charlie yesterday}

I can see both sides fo the coin here. I dont think hes a bad player, and if utilised in the right way could have a effective influence on our team. As Tel said, he was playing fantastic before Lucas got injured. I think hes well worth having in the squad personally. He just has to (and i think he has) face it he wont be playinG week in week out if he were to stay.

Sam Adzii jft96

Great post and think he can hustle and bustle for balls. yes he gives away freekicks dont evry one else also do the same. I will be dissapointed if we should loose him. Way better than Hendo, Spearing and Shelvey

I agree that he's not a bad player on the ball. He is not a naturally defensive player though and at least twice last night he let his player go past him and did not have the speed to recover. IMHO he is an attacking midfielder and should play there.

Compare it what Big Sam has been saying about Carroll. Fulham are just annoyed that Dempsey is now totally uncommitted and he's their star. Not our fault that he's gone like that after ONE comment on the player from Rogers.

Fulham crying over spilt milk. They're probably trying to ensure that we don't raid on the last day of the window with too low a bid.

i have a very strong feeling that it wil lbe lucas losing his starting 11 spot with the arrival of sahin

What? lucas the best defensive mid fielder will loose his place to an attacking player. good thing you are not in charge

No - Sahin can play in any of those three midfield possitions. He or Allen would be great if Lucas got injured this season (God forbid). However I think Sahin could either play inplace of Gerrard as the attacking midfielder or Allen as the box to box/playmaker. I think we will see a fair amount of swapping around in midfield. Especially as I question if Gerrard can play too man games following a few injuries and his age.
Expect to see Lucas - Allen - Sahin/Gerrard and Lucas - Sahin - Gerrard or even Allen - Sahin - Gerrard a lot this season.

I have a very strong feeling that it may be Stevie G keeping the bench warm.

I'm certain brendan rodgers has already stated that he sees stevie g as part of his current front 4. stevie g, suarez, borini & downing. midfield 3 of lucas, allen & sahin - (hopefully!)

So we play with 3 at the back - not sure that works.

Hearts fan here, just looking at some of the replies to an earlier post.

Mostly fair and mature.

But to the lad that called us a Mickey Mouse club in a Mickey Mouse league.

1) I think most of your club's history is founded on players and managers from Scotland / DisneyLand

2) After scraping through last night 1-0 with an own goal, using a team that cost easy over £100m (Reina, Agger, Henderson, Adam, Downing, Allen, Borini, etc.) - what does that say about your lot playing against Mickey Mouse and his pals? How much would you need to spend to properly beat us? £1bn?

3) If you want to start mud-slinging, most up here would agree you were the most disappointing set of fans to set foot in Tynie in years and a real let-down against your reputation

Anyway - let's see what next week brings. I've already stuck £20 on at PaddyPower that you'll sing a song. I got 40/1.

P.S. On a serious note, and not on the wind up, I think Allen could be an amazing signing and possibly Liverpool fans haven't quite realised yet what an impact he can make. Plus Rodgers came across brilliantly - true gent, good luck to him.

I thought hearts with the vocal home support(who were great) gave a good account of themselves last night.it was a close game which could have gone either way really,we had chances ,you had chances and if not for a marvellous save from reina near the end it d have been a draw

Hearts fans have never had a reputation and we never signed anyone from your mickey mouse club.

I wonder why you got 40/1 when your easily going to win next week mini mouse !

I was very impressed with Hearts, good players, good strategy and great supporters. They did themselves proud

I actually have to agree with numerous fans here about the wonderful atmosphere! I know which team I've adopted as my Scottish team and I will be following all your results and games as much as I can!

Hi eds, do u know how Rodgers said that he thinks that we will get two more signings. We got Assaidi and it looks like we are gonna get sahin. Does this mean that we are not gettin dempsey? And if Carrol goes who do u think will replace him as Rodgers wants atleast 15m+ so with that money we could potentially sign someone really good! Cheers {Ed002's Note - I would not read too much in to what he said.}

Ed's i remeber seeing Hazard for the first time. .i think it was 2009 in the Champions league against Lille and he gave us a hard time and i think he scored.There was interest but Liverpool where unwilling to pay the 10M Lille wanted. .same with Jovetic the previous owners didn't fund the move when he was cheap.We missed out on Dani Alves and Iniesta when they wer available for 16M and 14M respectively.When Torres left i thought Falcao only to find out that we have signed Carroll.
So is the interest in Dries Mertens real or is it just paper talk?
What hapenned to Liverpool's interest for Susaeta?
Are we in for a striker?
NîLê {Ed002's Note - I don't see Mertens moving to LIverpool - if he moves this summer I suspect it may well be to Bayern Munich although there is interest from Lazio. Susaeta is not expected to move. There remains interest in Dempsey.}

Carra is the WORST cb in the Prem. He is slow Lacks any pace, cant pass, cant head, cant tackle, makes my gran look good. Why is he still playng for liverpool. He cant even read the game anymore. All he knows how to do is pull the shirt of the other team players. He should be let go not playing.
Spearing is useless. He is not liverpool quality. He would not get in any prem team. Apart from liverpool just becasue he is local. What a joke. He should have been sold years ago.
Adam is fat, slow,cant tackle,cant chase back. He has lost any quality in that left foot. The corners are rubbish just like his free kicks.
Until these players are shipped out we will continue to be average. Yesterday we played crap and got lucky by an own goal. The team is full of average players. Henderson,Shelvey, Downing,Adam,spearing, are all average but carra is not he is worse. It looks like someone put football boots on Gordon Brown.

Carragher is a Liverpool legend so regardless of how he plays at present, he has been one of the best and most dedicated players the Premier League has seen. Nobody shows as much heart and commitment. So shut it you person you clearly know nothing about football if you are going to slate one of the biggest heros our club has ever seen. Joker.

He hasnt signed on loan yet! I still think there is every chance he'll end up at Arsenal.

24 Aug 2012 03:24:48
Defense doesn't necessarily mean the back four. Its the players in front of goal. Reina Agger Skrtel Lucas Allen & possibly Sahin. Expect the fullbacks (Enrique/Johnson) to be pressing. All of the players I have mentioned are very good players. Add Suarez & possibly Gerrard & on paper we look great. But in reality we don't have a proven/prolific striker. If we get one then I think we should be able to compete with the top 4 clubs again

I m backing suarez to score 20 or more this season

Thanks for the help, Figired {Ed002's Note - I don't know what deal is in place - previously the agreement with Arsenal did not have such a provision.}

Hi Ed's

Do you think the rumours we have no money to spend is just a cover up by the board to not get ripped off in transfer deals? I would like to think that if the right deal came along they would free up some money to get a player

24 Aug 2012 03:30:19
Another CM?!
Oh my god, will someone please wake me from this nightmare!
Sahin is good yes, but surely we need a poacher!
How many more misses do we need to endure before a manager of LFC wakes up to that fact!
We NEED a goalscorer!
Rant over...for now!

We have a strong midfield now though with lucas gerrard sahin and allen. more options

Let me tell you a story Suarez is the striker we so desperately need the season before we bought him he score 40 or more goals in the league. So don't want to kill the mood but if we waste 20 mill on the player you guys want we will waste every opportunity
for a young player please suarez will start scoring and the we will not need another striker believe me suarez looks hungry as s***

24 Aug 2012 03:14:38
Not a rumour just a thought, if sahin is confirmed tomorow, i hope he is a good addition to the squad and the club grows on him, apparently there could be a fee of around 14 million after the loan if we want him, im worried if he does eventualy become a very big player for us and next season we could find it hard if he isnt staying, not alot of players of his calibur will join a team outside champions league and probably taking a pay cut to do so, but im looking forward to see how the team gells over the season and hopefuly we can become a real force over the next 2-3 seasons

What's he done? Who is he? Liverpool are the most successful team in Britain mate. We are Liverpool. If he has a good season and we allow him to stay then he should think himself extremely lucky. I don't like this loan business. We are not a loaning club.

Hi, I didn't catch the match but can anyone tell me how the lads performed, especially Kelly and Borini, both of whom had poor displays against West Brom.

Also, I realised there's a lot of talk of dropping Gerrard if Sahin comes. My question then is: Who will be the captain? I'd like to see Agger or Lucas, both can put up a good fight.

Keith YNWA

Kelly played well borini played all right should have scored shelvey wasnt great bit lazy in the tackle and when he didit was his usual kamikaze tackles lol i thought Henderson played well

Kelly was tenacious, borini was sub par but stil lmaking good runs,ehit the post and caused the defender to make the mistake which led to the og, martin kelly delivered the cross for it

p.s. kelly is gonna make a superb cb

Boring was ok, took up some good positions but just lacking a bit of sharpness. Kelly was strong in the tackle and delivered a belter ball for the own goal but again wasn't amazing.I like shelvey but yesterday was the worst I have ever seen him play, couldn't even seem to complete a 2 yard pass, hopefully was just an off day.
On the other hand sterling was a real handful all game and probably got overused at times as he was the only real outlet we had. Allen again looked quality, I'm expecting big things.

Surprised the Charlie Adam haters are back after that game. I thought him, Sterling and Robinson were great against Hearts (and Allen when he came on).
Charlie was everywhere, got a few Hollywood passes right, had a couple of decent shots and tackled well without getting a card.
Best game he's played in nearly a year - Well done, Charlie Adam

cozinoz

Really you call that a good game especially for a Liverpool player may be I was watching a different game. for sure sterling was the best player even borini had good movements and was judge wrongly offside few times., Robinson and shelvey was good too and even Henderson had few good passes.
Red 316

To be honest I'm with you on this because he did rather well. My concern is with the adulation that Shelvey gets...he looked like he was substantially short of his best. I truly hope this is only him getting back to match fitness rather than an indication that he is totally unable to understand the 'smart' football that BR wants to play.

I wouldn't mind keeping adam and loaning out henderson. Henderson has nothing to offer lfc at the moment. We were lucky to win today and only adam and sterling looked like they were playing their hearts out to try to push their way in favor of the manager. Shelvy and spearing kept air passing to sterling making it impossble for him to control the ball easy. I can't figure out what borini or henderson are good at..

He wants to prove his worth.if i were him i won't leave a club like lfc.

Totally agree. I thought he was excellent. Toned down the long range passes in general, didn't blow any tackles really, and had a couple good forward runs from the midfield. Well done Charlie. YNWA

Charlie adam is not good enough we do not hate him we just do not rate him.red mick tag

tom1975

I think Adam against Man City last season showed what an excellent player he is under the right conditions, he and Lucas matched Yaya Toure and David Silva, yet he got beasted and bashed back then, some players are fall guys and Adam is one of them, i think because he arrived from a relative small club compared to the upper echelons of the Premier League, yet he did better there than in his first season at Liverpool.

Adam hit the post 4 times, scored 2 and had 4 assists within the first 10 games of last season and he was still slagged off.

Adam scored more goals than Carroll in the Championship, he bagged 13 in the Premiership for Blackpool when they were a considerably weak team and got relegated for their efforts, not without winning a few fans along the way though.

Adam has struggled with set pieces at Liverpool no question of that, but with Lucas there was a good partnership forming which injury put an end to for the both of them.

I like Adam, but I thought he had a sub standard game all in all. Not sharp enough at all.

Ed001, are you about...you're usually the night owl on here?

Just wondering if you know what's going on with Suso, he seems to be playing well but has been left out of the squad since America, where Sterling has been playing first team football. Just wondering if you have heard anything or just that he is still young and progressing?

dmedly {Ed001's Note - I believe he picked up an injury, hence him missing both the U21s game and the match against Hearts. Not 100% as it is has not been officially confirmed by the club, it could easily be someone trying to stop speculation.}

But didnt he get a red card the last game of last season, and thats the reason why he isnt playing for the U21? 3 game ban i think.

I've noticed when we get the ball at the back our centrebacks spread out so far they're basically full backs and the defensive mid comes in the middle to receive the ball so surely a centreback in Rodgers system is the perfect place for Kelly being half right back, half centre back. Would love opinions

I would love to see him play there for a 'lesser' game, maybe alongside Coates? Just to see if that partnership might work or not...

But that would put Coates out of the team, thats why i see Kelly to continue playing right back under Rodgers, unless BR does not rate Coates then who knows, which is why i believe Carra is being played as a left sided CB position because after this season, BR will go for a left sided CB. Carra normally plays a right sided CB, but BR put him on the left for a reason i believe, so that Coates can play as a right sided CB.

Kaizer

Agree think after watching last night that kelly would make a phenomenal centre back, he s not really attacking enough to be a fullback but by god is he a ferocious tackler

I have always been a fan of Henderson, today proved another example of why he MUST be deployed regularly in order for BR to implement his philosophy this season. With a midfield 3 of Henderson, Lucas and Allen the ball will be knocked around at ease, the tireless running and footballing brain of the two Brits either side of the ball-winning Brazilian could, I feel, lead to an improvement in form and some of the people who passively watch the football, rather than actively absorbing the game, changing their opinion on a certain Mr. Henderson. His ability to pick a pass, that whilst may not always be as cutting as an Adam or Gerrard 'Hollywood' pass, will always find its target and if the players around him could have similar vision, we could pass teams to death. This ability coupled with his tirelessness and drive to win the ball high up the pitch should not go unnoticed by BR. He has the makings of, as Ray Wilkins would say, a top, top player.

I for one will always be fighting his corner, he was a bright spark in the game and whilst young Raheem will grab the headlines, JH deserves a pat on the back tonight for his solid display.

Thanks
Glov3z the Red

Agreed mate, I couldn't understand at all the Henderson naysayers last season. And that is what I want to see from us, a midfield so in sync with each other that we almost literally pass teams to death. Add (potentially Sahin) and Suso then we would be going places. Still not convinced by Shelvey he shows flashes but gives away possession to easily but maybe he will improve, I hope so. The futures bright the futures Brendan.

I like hendo. he could do with inproving his technique though, and who better to learn of than gerrard with regards to that.

Henderson or Sahin? I know who I'd choose.

Agreed mate.

Dont know what game you guys were watching, because we were out played for most of that match. only time we were in control was when we were playing 1,2 with our keeper.

At least if they completed their passes without giving the ball away then it'll be a good display.

Henderson is just an ordinary player the type who plays for wolves , wigan sunderland etc

Henderson likes to play short passes and ground-throughballs. which i like more than aerial-throughballs. this is from what ive seen alone though. IMO he has a bright future ahead of him.

Shelvey is a more attack minded midfielder, likes to bring the ball forward then pass, rather than look for a pass straight away.

IMO both of them have potential, whether they fulfill it or not, only god knows. I like both of them, but i would play Hendo ahead of Shelvey at midfield simply because Hendo is better at keeping possession. but i remember whe BR played Shelvey right wing forward and he wasnt that bad.

Stick with it chap. When it all comes together its worth the read, just to either hear the back tracking or the stubborn remarks. A dose of reality for the moaners:

LFC finished 8th last season and to those who say we deserved more (woodwork hit, chances missed, lucas injured): deserve has got nothing to do with it.

There were simply too many players in the squad who are not top 4 quality. This cannot be turned around in one transfer window - it will probably take 2 or 3. Similarly the players will take time to become comfortable with BR style of play.

So lets be realistic: Is it realistic for a team that finished 8th last season to suddenly start challenging at the top? - no its not. We will probably finish somewhere from 4th and 6th so we need our fans to accept reality and that there will be bad days ahead.

We are not a top club at the moment (hate having to say that) but I genuinely believe that BR and FSG will get us back to that position but not for 2-3 years.

Whilst i agree with u, i wouldnt say that we cant challenge for more than top four.

would u have believed at the start of last season if i said

Swansea would finish 11th?

That Chelsea would win the Champions League, beating Barcelona in the process?

That Chelsea would finish 5th, below Spurs?

That Everton would finish ahead of Liverpool?

well u might believe in some, but not all. football is unpredictable, fun and exciting to watch because of this. We have seen games where we should have won last season but we end up losing 1 nil.

so lets not say that we wont or cant challenge for top four. lets say that we will try. theres no harm in trying. and with a 2 players more atleast coming, i actually think we have a squad capable of challening for more than top four.

With Rodgers commenting on Sahin on official site, we have to assume he will sign. I think most of us have concluded that the Dempsey deal is a matter of time (the whole complaint by Fulham is a joke...Rodgers said we made an enquiry. Mancini talks about everyone's players and outright says he wants them and nobody complains!).

I am really not sure how all these players fit in the starting 11. I realize we need depth, but I don't see Gerrard sitting on the bench, and we still have Allen (who looks great), Lucas (who is a must when fit), Sahin (too talented for bench), Henderson (looked strong today imo) and ofcourse, Adam who will likely leave.

Not sure how they will all line up, especially if Dempsey signs. Surely he and Suarez would be up front, and a true winger (of whom our best is clearly Sterling) would be needed as well.

Reina

Johnson Skrtel Agger Enrique

Lucas Allen
Gerrard

Sahin Dempsey Suarez

This looks like a lineup that has potential for me, with Hendo, Borini, Sterling, Downing, Carroll bringing excellent options off the bench.

Just some thoughts.

Canada Red

Switch sahin and gerrard

Not only switch Sahin and Gerrard, but put Gerrard in the middle with Suarez playing just to his right. Kinda like how Fabregas and Messi played often last year for Barca. Let Gerrard play centrally, Suarez just to the right and the other forward wider on the opposite side to stretch the opposite back 4. Suarez in a slightly wider role could potentially drag centerbacks out of position often.

And assaidi?

No place for assaidi on the bench?

The match today was never going to be great but through all the lack of quality Joe Allen was head and shoulders above everyone .One of the movements he does very well which gives him time is control the ball with one foot and pass with the other , this changes angles creates time on the ball.Fantastic player and he will actually make a mockery of his £15m fee.

Agreed all the people hating on him before he signed should crawl back in there caves.

Completely agree, he is the one guy who truly understands what Rodgers wants. Which makes sense since he was key for him last year. When he passes the ball he quickly moves himself into another open space, to be avaible for another pass. Too many guys are passing it and standing in the same spot. {Ed049's Note - true}

We were playing hearts

I slept when he came on, (the game starts 2.45 am here in my country). would love to see 2nd half highlights though.

I agree about Allen, but I dont understand all these comments about a lack of quality.

You have a team low on confidence (and if they read this site it will be getting lower every day), in only the 2nd or 3rd game of the season, playing a completely new system.

In most circumstances, that is a recipe for disaster, but last night, even though they obviously havent got use to the system yet, they maintained their cool and played their game. There were more than a few scary moments - but they prevailed and will now be much more confident with the system.

Give them a bit of time and hope that during the bedding in period, we can grind out results like last night.

Eds...... Everyone's going mental about signing Sahin, but, having never seen him play myself ( as I expect most of the people posting and having kittens about him signing have not seen him) is he actually that fantastic that he'll make a huge improvement to the team. Or, is it the usual case of fans giving it, let's just sign someone, I don't care who it is!

DeV {Ed001's Note - I actually rate him highly, he looked top class in German football.}

He was one of the reasons why Dortmund won the Bundesliga i believe.

Kaizer

Cheers Ed and Kaizer, I'll look forward to seeing him in the team if we do sign him then.
I just get frustrated with a lot of fans just wanting us to sign anyone. I don't care if they cost £1 or £35m, I only want to see players that will take us forward. Quality, not quantity!

I it wasnt for bad decisions from linesmen we'd probably be talking about borini on a whole different level. He's quick

Cudge

And his positioning is very good as well. Up to others to pass the ball into space so he can get on it- hopefully Sahin will help there...

He missed the ball twice when he had the chance to score

Quite right. One on one with the keeper 4 time - 3 times unfairly stopped by the linesman. You would hope he would have got 1 of the 4.

Eds, Do you think Sahin will be the last of the loan deals in and out? On the evidence of tonights game several of our squad are well off the mark and that includes Shelvey who wasteful as was Spearing and Adam. Robinson looks like a penalty waiting to happen. Borini needs time. There is talk of Hector Herrera coming too. {Ed001's Note - I think it will be the only loan.}

24 Aug 2012 00:07:10
hi eds just wondering if we do sign sahin where do you think he will fit in? brendan plays a 3 man midfield and with gerrard, lucas and allen i don't see how sahin will play week in week out {Ed001's Note - personally, if he is staying long term, I would expect Gerrard to drop out. He is not the force he once was.}

I think Allen and Lucas will have a more preserved central allocation allowing sahin for freedom in the upper part of midfield. Leaving gerrard, borini, Suarez up top until a new striker comes about? Thoughts?

Have to agree with Ed on this one. Perhaps might see Gerrard, Allen, Sahin as well though until Lucas gets back to full fitness.

Do you think BR has the bottle to do this at such an early stage in his LFC career?
Still playing Carra...
Memories of Guillit & Shearer spring to mind!

dmedly

Perhaps a 4-3-1-2 with Gerrard being the 1 but Rodgers system seems to relie on wide players.

People get so caught up in giving the formation a name. First off how often is everyone fit and healthy? Having 4 top guys for 3 spots is a minimum this day and age. Plus they can all play together. Gerrard as a sort of a false 9, Suarez slightly to his right. When Gerrard drops deeper to help keep possession (and form a diamond) Suarez moves forward into the space Gerrard vacated. The fullback pushes up to give width, the centerback drifts wide to cover that flank, the deepest midfielder drops even deeper to cover for the centerback.

Thats the kind of understanding and fluidity we need. We need all 11 guys knowing what the other 10 are doing at any moment. We need that when the CF drops deep that everyone else sees it and immediately reacts to it in the right way. Its very hard to implement but if we are patient eventually it will be great.

According to the only website I genuinely trust (BBC Sport) arsenal have ended their interest in Nuri sahin and he is set to be confirmed on friday on a year long loan deal with the option to buy at the end of the season (reported 14 million)...so excited great signing!
YNWA

You lost me when you said you trust the BBC. A total bunch of lazy useless charlatans!

Sahin wont be joining us! Get real! Arsenal or us! He gonna choose arsenal for champions league n even without van persie they still have more fire power than we boast! Fact! We are a depleting squad of mediocre players! I may get slated but this is the cold hard truth n the sooner our owners realise mediocrity is not acceptable the better!
HARDY1892 YNWA

How can we get out of this 'mediocrity' if we don't sign players who can.

Gotta a feeling you may well be slated in the coming hours!

Sahin 4 LFC!

dmedly

Hey, its the new Bosco

People who need to use the word FACT! to make an argument clearly aren't dealing in them, because if it was a FACT! its use would be unnecessary.

I think our squad is actually better than Arsenal.

Kaizer

Well, here's another nice mess you've gotten us into

Why does anybody answer the OP? Grow-up!

i have just started follow personter for sparky, just wondered apart from ahaque97 are any other of you eds or regular posters (blair mayne, chris from tamworth or the like) on it and what are your personter names. thanks again.
huddz red {Ed001's Note - there are a few of us on there, I don't know what my name on there is though, I barely use it so it doesn't really matter to be honest.}

Ed001andonly I believe!

Just been on asenal page, there just like we were a couple of days ago regarding sahin "he's defiantly going to ...." looks like us now hope so great player, also they have the kaka and damiao rumour on there too funny how delerious all fans get in these windows !

Forgetting the spelling (pardon me but I couldn't resist) one of the best posts I've seen on here!

23 Aug 2012 23:49:41
I really don't know why we won't play Carroll? he is a player who trives off confidence give him game time play the man ,he is still young if he got a good run in the first team the change would be noticeable. I dont think this season will be any better than last if we can't convert the chances we have. And what really gets to me is we have great players but they really need to put on there goal scoring boots and get this club BACK WERE WE BELONG at the top of English football again. Sorry about the rant just getting a lot off my chest. {Ed001's Note - you do know he was due to start but got injured, right?}

An excuse to be left out so that he won't be cup tied in case Newcastle or Spurs make an acceptable bid?

OMG I'm horrified by the inane waffle of some posters. Do yourself a favour, READ! And for the words you do not understand? Ask an adult!

23 Aug 2012 23:45:03
FFS I had a lot of money on Borini scoring first and he hit the post and fluffed his lines on Kelly's cross. Grrrr.
As for the team, we need another striker, not sure why Sahin, another CM, is needed. Its clear LFC need a striker and a right winger.

23 Aug 2012 23:43:56
This is not a rumour, its a cry for help. I'm die hard Liverpool. And I am worried, this is the worst strike force we've had in decades.
We've always had rush, fowler, Owen, Torres.. Even the likes of collymore and crouch.
Crouch is a better 'goalscorer' than anyone we have at the moment.. We are not a sinking ship, but a sunken ship.
What can we fans expect next...

23 Aug 2012 23:42:37
is this site is anty twitter ? I mean any one can open an account in twitter and tweet what they want but you can't count all of them ! there are people like philmcnulty of BBC, TonyBarret of Times, of ssn. they work with best news service in the world.

r-r {Ed001's Note - except they don't, Barrett works for the Times, which is just another Murdoch piece of crap. SSN, another Murdoch load of junk, which makes up stories to encourage idiots to waste their money in SkyBet. Twitter is just regurgitated nonsense in almost every case, anything useful gets reported properly, not in 140 characters!}

''Right on'' Ed001 !! B

Hear, hear, Ed well said

You should add an 'agree with ed' button.

i know its all in theory but after listening to fowler after game would it not be a great bit of buisness to sell agger to city for 15 and johnson and play kelly in his place glen johnson right back,a johnson r wing,if we do get sahin would give team a complete different look and give sterling a proper run in team looks hungry which is great to see know it was only hearts but nice to see young lads willing to bust a gut and think downing at left back might be a genius touch {Ed001's Note - no, it would not!}

23 Aug 2012 23:41:25
Do any of the top 6 teams have midfielders with a transfer value less than Adam (£5-6m) and Spearing (£3-4m)

Any suggestions welcome

Leam Red {Ed001's Note - Anderson?}

Nice answer, really nice

Giggs and Scholes? Surely you would get 10% off, OAP discount maybe?

RedKopite

Diaby and benayoun at a push. Others for there age won't be worth a lot. Oh and sadly essien won't be worth much more than £6 mil now.

Misschinandlerbong

Livermore, huddlestone, diaby, mikel? and a lot more, all teams have fringe players apart from maybe man city

LOL Ed!
