My sympathy for Rodgers is that, the owners should send him to a championship or D2 club to get experience or may a pl club like Newcastlefc. i doubt Newcastle will need him though. or if he join the Labour party they'll win the next election.

i think we all know that we need a better spine to our team, and we all know we need to offload a lot of the players who are not cutting it at the club, so for me i think we need 3 top or very good players and then get the players who are at the club to play around them, it make perfect sense, i heard some stupid comments on markovic, he looks like he will become a wery good player we all should learn from how we jusdged hendo, i think last season his absence was a major factor of us losing out on winning the title but thas just my opinion, markovic has been given a lot of praise by a lot of people who know more than i about young players, then there's lallana i said at the time he was not worth the money we paid and we should'nt buy him, his injuries has not helped him though and i hope he proves me wrong, i feel sorry for ballo and lambert because they were over looked for a arrogant little greedy kid who has missed more easy goals than he has scored, i really wish we get rid of sterling because of his arrogance and the bad way he is treating the club and fans, not once in all this contract saga have i heard him say anything about playing for the fans, his latest quote is him saying the stick he gets over his contract and being called greedy go's in one ear and out the other that's because he has fresh air between them or should i say laughing gas, he said its not about money if that was the case he would have accepted a double of his wagers which would be 60 or 70 k, but he think we are all soft like the board and BR, the club have bent over backwards, he even got a holiday when all the other players had to play and train even the younger ones this is where the club have fooked up giving into him NO PLAYER IS BIGGER THAN THE CLUB WE ALL SAY IT AND KNOW IT, but one thing is for sure if and when he does leave the club he won't be missed imo, we should let it be known that we are selling him let him go to a bigger club like real madrid and i guarantee he will last 1 or 2 seasons as he won't be 1st choice and he will start is moaning and speaking to the media without the clubs permission, he has shown the club up by taking the hippy crack stuff and other little things its not showing a good example to other kids,

the 3 players we should get is a CB - Def - Mid and a striker who will guarantee at least 15 to 20 goals a season no more attacking mids or wingers please and i really don't think danny ings is the answer to our prayers

sorry about the long post but sterling is showing such disrespect to the club and fans, as I've said before if sturridge was not so injury prone and BR played ballo or lambert or even borini up front instead of sterling then all this bigheadedness from sterling would not be there,

Believable7 Unbelievable6

25 Apr 2015 07:28:00
mbrock, I like reading your posts, but
I think we have a good spine, the problem is that rodgers calls the wrong players.
for me, sakho, lucas, coutinho, hendo, sturridge, lallana. these are all good players, you just have to use them the right way

Sorry mate but that was just a rant at a 20 year old.
With loads of conjecture but absolutely no facts whatsoever.
How do you know he is greedy or arrogant?
You say you feel sorry for Balotelli!!!
That is a player who has not wanted to play for the previous 3 games but when a semi final is on the horizon suddenly is fighting fit??
I could not disagree more with this post.
Just blaming everything on a teenager. well done mate.

One thing I don't understand and never understood is why clubs (as well as national teams) don't have an article in the contract limiting the compensation in the case of sacking.

In almost every job contract now a days the employer keep the right to dismiss the employee with very limited compensation, usually 3 months salary at best. And yet again and again you hear how the FA is still paying Svan Goran Arikson his salary from five years ago.

This is relevant for us because it seems that even if the owners want to sack BR they will have to pay him huge compensation after signing a 4 years contract with him last summer. Given our financial problems this will not make it easy for them to sack him (which I am now pretty sure they will not).

Believable1 Unbelievable1

25 Apr 2015 07:37:33
Can managers insert a clause if they do really well and get the opportunity to go to another club for more money, they can quit with the club receiving any compensation. It's a two way street. If clubs offers players/managers silly contracts then they have to honour them.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed002's Note - Why would a club accept anything like that?}

25 Apr 2015 17:14:06
when managers want to resign for whatever reason they always do so with no compensation to the club.

{Ed002's Note - No, that is not correct.}

hi eds,

when carra left a lot of fans said they thought he would manage liverpool one day, now that he is a pundit do you think he would become our manager one day, as he done his badges, also do you think Pako would be asked to become our manager because after he left in my opinion only it was the start of the end for rafa, with him beside rafa the club was playing some very good football and all the players liked and respected Pako, this is the man who i would like to see replace BR if he was asked to leave or left the club, Pako knows the club and what it stands for and he would settle in very quickly

Rodgers has spoken of how he's been reassured by the owners he will be at the club next season but can't afford another bad year or may face the sack. Is this him just being hopeful or has he been given reassurances

Believable2 Unbelievable3

25 Apr 2015 00:00:47
KK was given assurances as well and was let go. IMO, I don't believe any of that. I think he is just trying to make his case as to why he should not be sacked, in the media like all politicians do.

Hopefully I just feel his signings will cost the club even more. The interest in Depay is a breath of fresh air but it seems like it'll be another transfer like Willian, Mkhitaryan etc where the club tried and get nowhere

Agree5 Disagree1

25 Apr 2015 10:11:09
If as you say the cub tries for these players and fails, that must be what Rogers meant when he said the club needs to be more aggressive in the transfer market this summer. Don't see how you can blame Rogers for failed transfer targets

{Ed002's Note - You could start with Salah and work from there.}

What must the players think? If your one of the strikers and you see a midfielder being played in your position while your on the bench! Or if your a defender whose watching a midfielder play in your position? ( bit of a pattern with midfielders? think BR is trying to use them all up so he can play Joe Allen CM ) Its all well and good if you have no faith in the players but why put them on the bench? Is BR trying to send FSG a message regards committee? Rickie Lambert in semi going on in 89th min? if he doesn't trust him to start why use him to try get you out of jail? I hope it never happens at our club but if Lambert would of done a Tevez and refused to go on would you have blamed him? (think he was being a great pro btw) then I think how can Carra defend BR? am I missing something? all the mess yet Carra and Stevie like him? or are they just not doing there dirty washing in public? Last of all Mignolet to play the false nine tmorrow :-) ( never heard of a false 9 til BR came here? think its his get out of I don't know what i'm doing excuse?

Believable3 Unbelievable2

25 Apr 2015 03:14:26
I agree scouse and what's worse is that he bought most of these players he's either benched or playing them out of position. He is not new to the club trying to get old players to fit his system. We are at the end of the season and he still doesn't know his best team or his best formation.

25 Apr 2015 06:46:14
If it wasn't clear, it should be now to Balotteli, Borini and Lambert that they are not needed at LFC.

The players must think oh I must be pretty rubbish as a striker, if a midfielder is playing instead of me, why do they pay me so much money? And guess what, they will be absolutley right. I would have played even Henderson as a striker if I needed to. Lambert and Borini did asolutly nothing every time they got on the pitch.

Henderson signing new contract. Is this the same Henderson that Brenda wanted to sell to Fulham to fund a move for Dempsey. Signed Illori and has never played him in a competitive game for gods sake give him a chance if he's rubbish we will know but if you don't give him a run of games we will never know. Kelly and Suso have done well since you know who showed them the door . Personally think he wanted a transfer committee to deflect the blame from him and the owners fell for it. He will be gone by Xmas 2015 hopefully . By the way tomorrows fixture is the BAGGIES versus THE HAND BAGGIES

Another indictment on the transfer market acumen of BR. The prob is that those who want him around never seem to have a rational and logical argument for that whereas the facts on the ground show him as a failure over his time here. All they give is flimsy excuses, suppositions, apologies for his recurring mistakes and their ridiculous fear of "hiring a new manager and how that will affect the players or some other dumb stuff. In their book, we should just keep a failing manager because they are afraid of the unknown. Yet we all wonder whiocrity by rewarding failure instead of daring to dream

Can all be let go and free up wages and recoup some transfer funds then with any other monies fsg are willing to spend a select few high quality players can come in. Not young inexperienced potential

Agree1 Disagree3

24 Apr 2015 20:22:06
Someone need to want to take them. If you were a PL manager would you fight to get any of them? Maybe Borini for bottom half team. Lovern and Baloteli will cost in fees and wages more than their worth, the rest are not good enough for the starting 11 of a PL team IMO.

Agree1 Disagree2

24 Apr 2015 20:53:50
I'm talking about signings. wasting our millions on other teams young players who aren't cutting it. Buy the quality in and get our academy players around them and hopefully they will become stars

Agree4 Disagree0

25 Apr 2015 01:39:13
Fano you may not like lovren or balo but to say they're not good enough to start in a PL team is absurd and just stupid. They may not have worked out for us but lovren had a great season last year, balo ups and downs but scored a decent amount in a team which won the league. He's also looks one of our better players when he has had a chance these last few months. Not to mention he was one of the players of the tournament in the euros a couple of years back.

Agree1 Disagree1

25 Apr 2015 01:47:32

You can add toure to the list, I like him but for me he's just blocking the route of an academy player.4th choice CB should always be a youngster imo.
I would add Allen also but then the list starts getting unrealistic due to size.
The sad thing is from your above mentioned list, how many of them would you even notice are gone?

The youth set up isn't 'luck' and we have lots of good players at u21. Keep an eye out for Ryan Kent and Harry Wilson in addition to Ibe and Ojo.

Believable10 Unbelievable0

24 Apr 2015 16:25:44
Kent and Wilson have a fantastic understanding of each others game. Very excited to watch them in the first team in the future.

In addition to Sinclair who looks another one for the future.

The one I'm looking forward to seeing most is Adam Phillips. Looks a real player already. If he can reach his potential, we have a fantastic all round midfielder in our ranks.

If only we had a manager who believes in them instead of wating cash on buying their replacements who turn out to not be better than them?

That's why the fact we're interested in Depay doesn't make any sense. I'm sure he's decent but we already have Sterling, Ibe, Marko, Ojo, Kent, Wilson etc. or does he just want to sign someone and play them out of position for a year, then brief them to James Pearce?

Agree3 Disagree0

25 Apr 2015 08:24:22
Essexred, the only way we will get to see our u'21's play is by watching them on loan somewhere else. they won't get opportunities under BR here.

Agree1 Disagree1

24 Apr 2015 14:18:19
Not sure if I just being biased based on last couple of games but does anyone think or know why it looks like we just aren't trying hard enough to defend?

Thought this watching the madrid derby in the CL and even though they lost just looks like their players wanted it more then we did.

Saw nearly every team this season have games where their players just put everything into not letting the other team score and can't remember us doing that once.

Believable4 Unbelievable0

24 Apr 2015 15:20:54
I think our players are frazzled from all of the different formation changes and personnel changes to be honest.
Athletico are drilled so well that they all know their roles inside out.
I don't think we could say the same about Liverpool at the moment and the manager has to take the blame for that.

Agree9 Disagree2

24 Apr 2015 15:24:19
Ask yourself, have you seen this once under Rodgers management?

We never seem to care about defending. Even when we only needed a point against Chelsea last season we threw defending out of the window. Ultimately cost us the title.

Agree8 Disagree0

24 Apr 2015 16:17:48
I think that's a pretty poor point (the chelsea game last year.)
We didn't need to defend in that match. The first goal was a slip by gerrard and the second was a breakaway in the last seconds because we were pushing so much for a goal.
Chelsea made no attempt to attack in that match, they just wanted to stop us playing.

Agree6 Disagree4

24 Apr 2015 16:35:44
I don't see how it's a poor point?

I think anyone with half a brain knew that Chelsea were never going to attack at us. They were happy to defend and hit us on the counter attacks. So why did we have to keep throwing numbers forward when the scoreline from the start was good enough?

The point I'm making is, Rodgers can't organise a defence to save his life. Even in games where we have a lot of the ball, I still get nervous that the other team is one attack from scoring.

Agree9 Disagree0

24 Apr 2015 20:01:29
Johnny, AM play and defend in the image of how their manager wants them to play and their mentality. Simeone was a hard man who played with his heart on his sleeve and possessed a big pear. His players wil play and defend till kingdom come if need be because they channel the passion and determination their manager played and coaches with. On the other hand, we play defend in BR`s image as in, WE DON`T and NEVER will. If we need to play 5 at the back to keep a clean sheet, it means we are not well-drilled defensively and that is down to your boy, BR as you rightly state.

Agree1 Disagree0

24 Apr 2015 20:52:43
"My boy" ha ha ha. Yes I signed him as manager.
You say we can't defend but we just broke a defensive record that stood for 30 years in terms of 6 away clean sheets on the bounce.
To say we can't defend or never have is rubbish.
Mignolet is second in clean sheets only to De Gea so how can we be that bad at defending?
I am more worried about the "nearly men" tag that seems to have attached itself to us since he became manager.
We nearly won the league, nearly won the league cup, nearly got the fa cup final.
This team needs to turn that nearly into an achievement next year or I will be happy to drive "my boy" out of Anfield myself.
I am old school in the sense that I don't think every time you have a bad season then the manager needs to be sacked.
That is a new phenomenon which I don't like at all and we as a club are better than that.
I would admit that this transfer window is so important.
We simply HAVE to sell those players we deem to be surplus to requirements and then look at the academy, only after that should we be looking at any future targets in my opinion.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Apr 2015 00:12:23
Nearly mieans NOTHING so your argument and worthless optimism is just that, worthless. I used that phrase because you are always quick to defend and make excuses for him. Turn the nearly into success? Like your boy did this year but in the wrong direction as in making us worse? That must be a sick joke. You are no more old school than the next guy and BR has only succeeded for half a season and has won nothing in three years with 200m spent, and has made us worse in that span so that part of your comment falls flat. You have spent the whole season making excuses for him and each time, he has succeeded in make your arguments even more lame to the point of being ridiculous. At what point will you wake up?

Agree0 Disagree1

25 Apr 2015 14:31:19
Let's be straight.
The only "boys" I support wear red.
I like the manager but would not shed any tears if he went.
In my opinion. and that is all it is, he deserves another year.
I have told you why I have that opinion and because it differs to yours you can't handle it.
Using words like ridiculous, worthless may ,make you feel better but in know way do they further your argument that he has to go.
I am wide awake.
200 million spent. how much did we get back in?
If Rodgers was given 200 million when he first started as manager and we were then 5th after 3yrs then I would be in 100% agreement with you.
But that just is not true is it?
We have balanced the books all the way along by selling players to help fund the arrivals.
Last season we sold Suarez for £65 million so that 200 million is a false argument isn't it?
Let me be clear, if Rodgers was given 200 million pounds and we did not sell anyone and then we finished 5th then I would be right behind you in sacking him.
But that is not the truth of the situation is it?
Not even nearly the truth.
As for making us worse.
We have finished 2nd 7th and 5th under him in three years when we finished 8th the season before he took over.
We had Poulsen, Adam and Downing in our squad when he arrived.
To say we are worse off is just absolute poppycock.
You may want him gone and I can respect that opinion.
But that does not mean I have to agree with it.
And this post has told you why I don't agree with it.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool have haemorrhaged money since the owners arrived - largely because of the massive spending on transfers. Liverpool have massive debt because of the money wasted on transfer spending. The books have not been balanced. The reason why we avoid discussion on money is because it confuses the fans like you - you cannot even seem to grasp the basics of FFP or the money issues at Liverpool. And why do you only support Liverpool when they are playing at home?}

25 Apr 2015 16:45:55
You can have a diff opinion BUT not different facts. I posted facts and all you posed was conjecture and opinions which mean absolutely "poppy cock" in the realm of debating facts. We did not have Poulsen when he arrived, BTW. the debt we are having is partly due to BR`s wastefulness in the TW with nothing to show for it. We were second last year and now we are barely scraping 5th/6th w/ 100m spent this years (fact) and you don`t see that as failure? Good grief!!! We ARE worse off in terms of money and player mismanagement and come this summer we will be in a total mess due to BR`s blunders in the TW and loan programs. These are facts and I can take them anywhere to back up my conclusions. You on the other hand, just posted opinions, conjecture, made up some poppy cock argument (example, if BR was given 200m every year etc. Really? You make up scenarios to support your point now?) and excuses which have NO basis in fact. When you are ready to discuss facts, come on down and I will debate you on the issues anywhere on the planet. Until then, your opninions bear NO impact in the realm of fact, hence not worth debating.

N BTW, the Ed just proved my point because she just posted facts. it`s not that hard to do EXCEPT of course, if you hav NO facts to post.

What does "you only support Liverpool when they are playing at home mean"???? Can you clarify what you mean by that statement Ed002.
Are you insulting me?
RED. You should try disagreeing with the eds from time to time.
It's very liberating
Or are you the eds son or something?
I am not confused at all Ed002.
Were you not the one who said we would fall foul of FFP and then when the figures were scrutinised we received no punishment whatsoever after you saying for months that we would fall foul of it?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - You might want to read the second line of your previous idiotic post.

Liverpool did fall found of FFP, and have not met the FFP criteria at all. They remain under scrutiny and only escaped punishment after begging UEFA to allow the writing off a second set of costs for the stadium. You are an witless moron who should begin all posts "Speaking from a position of complete ignorance, ....".}

I find it crazy that after spending soo much money and not effectively the club might it be Rodgers or the committee are seriously interested in depay. Not that the boy might turn out to be a great player but because that amount (25 million) should be spent on a top class striker. It's just ludicrous even if sterling is expected to leave why give Ibe a new contract if he will be further down in the pecking order and has looked excellent when played.
You know I will put some blame on fsg if deals like these continue. Surely they have to see the trend at the club regarding unneeded transfers that's costing the club millions. Why not wait until the season ends before claiming.moneys not an issue to buy Imo another unneeded player? We are all expecting change of some sort but it is still continuing in the background after a disastrous season.
Fsg have backed every manager and invested huge sums but maybe it's time to change approach. Doesn't mean we are not as ambitious or want the best but the club has to be more cut throat.
My hope is united sign depay as expected and fsg seriously look into our transfers and put a stop to the amount being spent and the players being bought.
Put a foot down and buy the players we need' though sales. And I would sell sterling as I think the situation has turned into a mess. I expect a good few players to depart aswell.
I'm hoping a few angels hit klopp on the head and point him in the direction of anfield

Maybe they are looking at Depay as a potential replacement for Sterling? I've only seen the few minutes he played at the world cup so I've no idea how good he is but they both play the same position so it makes sense perhaps that they are preparing just in case.

I think you missed the point mate. it is much more sophisticated than that. BR and the guyes don't reat Depay, they realised every time we go for a player ManU go and steal it. So they say they are interested and then they get a rubbish player. That was the plan with Baloteli but the guys in united didn;t react quickly enough and we got stuck with him.

Hi Ed02,

Not sure if you have ever answered this, so apologies if you have.

With Rodgers saying in his latest press conference that he is the right man and that they need to be more aggressive in the transfer market and he needs more control on that and they will be planning for next season and he does see them bringing in more players.

Does Rodgers as a manager have any understanding of the clubs financial position for purchasing players? Or is it as simple as him saying to Ian Ayre. How much have I got?

Or is the way much as case of a manager/coach, in this case the Nose. saying I need a GK, CF and Central Midfielder, I want to get rid of X/Y and Z and I am interested in these and then Ian Ayre will look into this and dictate what the club can and cannot afford?

Sorry if that is a bit messy but curious to know how it would work.

Thanks in advance

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Rodgers will know that there are financial limitations but I wouldn't get tied up in any thought of "transfer budgets" at all. Rodgers will have discussed the players he would like to bring in with the transfer committee throughout the season and scouts will bring other names to the table via Barry Hunter and Dave Fallows. These would all be looked at by Michael Edwards and his team and perhaps then a refined list could be considered. Whether this process will still be in place in the summer or not I don't know, but certainly the view point of the likes of these people will be important if it is. I have suggested in an answer to another post that the club find a third party to review the loan players and some of the squad players who might be let go. That should happen.

The club need to balance the books so they need to raise money by selling players.}

Ok. So we accept that we are in debt and are in breach of FfP rules. We need to become more self sufficient, live within our means as we have been constantly advised. We would need to accept that we could not compete finacially with the teams above us in transfer fees and definately not wages. Do Fsg need to accept then that Champions League would then be a pipe dream? A league title is pie in the sky? What gives? Does a possible new manager accept such a position? More importantly how then do we close the gap? Try the youth players? Possibly but its no certainty. Find up and coming players, the new Aguero? wouldn't the other clubs be doing the same? Ed002, you mentioned in a previous post to me that Liverpool would need to be bullish going forward. Would you care to elaborate? Cheers.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

24 Apr 2015 13:51:13
Liverpool are in the mess they are because money has been badly spent, not because of the lack of investment by the owners. The club need to be financially responsible and meet the FFP criteria in the same way all other clubs have to. The gravy train has gone and now is the time for the owners to act firmly - they have made a significant number of changes with the structure and management of the club already. They are taking on further debt due to the improvement to Anfield. They will have significantly increased television revenue in a couple of years and that only further helps the commercial success the club are already achieving. They will continue to look to sell naming rights, and whilst the fans will not be happy, it is the source of additional revenyue. In terms of bullish action, I would suggest that:

(a) Michael Gordon needs to look to his advisors to find a third party to look at all of the loaned players and see if they have a future at the club. This should see the agents of Aspas, Ilori, Coates, Alberto and probably Wisdom told to find them new clubs. Realistic sale prices need to be given to the agents as a guideline.
(b) I would suggest that a third party talks to a number of the first team players about their future with a view to having them agree that it might be best for their career to move on. I would think Balotelli, Yesi and Borini fall in to this category - and possibly Brad Jones, Sterling and Enrique.
(c) The club need to find out if Toure will sign the extension he has been offered.
(d) The owners need to find a new head coach/manager and move Rodgers on. It has not worked, he is a PR minefield and is responsible for the complete failure of the club in the past three years. The owners need to act as the did with the Red Sox and that gave them the success they craved.

The owners will certainly not see the Champions League as a pipe dream. They want to be challenging and they want to be winning the league. The club is far more of a money pit than they imagined. They need to look to other clubs and see how no rebuild is necessary when you change manager, no two or three years of transition. No "long-term plan" rolled out as an excuse for mediocrity. The owners will be aware of the potential devastating impact that a breakway pan-European league could have on those clubs not involved and I am sure that is reflected in their exit strategy.

Agree12 Disagree1

24 Apr 2015 14:15:29
Champions league or a title isn't a pipe dream just a difficult task. FFP situation means LFC will have to make sure they have the right people in place to ensure we stop wasting money and chances. Have a lot of players leaving or who need to be moved on and try get in 2 or 3 signings of quality to improve the starting XI as have a talented and young squad.

Think most of our young players that can contribute next season are realistically ibe, sterling, wisdom, ilori, flanno and origi. The rest should be used for Europa and Cup ties to give them experience and a chance to break the starting XI as Rossiter, Ojo, and Sinclair are all very young!

Don't think it is about us spending a fortune on big signings as such but making sure we get the right player to fill specific roles, so a striker and a DM.

Need a striker that fits how we want to play (not a carroll) and can come into the first team straight away and not be one for next year (Luiz Adriano or ings would be a good shout).

For DM think Lucas and Couqelin for Arsenal - neither are exciting or gifted players but know their role and play that role really well. Would like us to get a good athletic DM who can protect our back four - only seen him a few times but Kondogbia looked perfect when I saw him.

Fill those two roles and improve managing of our team (by either getting help for BR or replacing him) and could easily get top four or if we have a great season challenge for the title - though don't see us winning it as Chelsea just have such a strong squad and a great manager.

I personally think you need at least 4-5 experienced key anchors to a team if you want to compete for top 4, particularly in midfield and in the CB's. This season that's been lacking with arguably only Skrtel, Hendo and Coutinho living up to that seasoned campaigners in any form (and some will question Skrtel). Lucas only played half the time, Lovren was out of form, Llalana injured a fair bit, Sturridge always injured etc.

I think if we can get to a point where we have a spine of the side being Lovren/Sakho at CB (and hopefully in form), Hendo + 1 (Milner/Illara?) + Llalana in midfield and an attack of Coutinho/Sturridge then we can genuinely compete with the top of the league with talented youngsters like Moreno, Can, Sterling, Ibe, Markovic, Origi hopefully finding form around them.

We clearly can't buy top top talent in every position to compete with the likes of Chelsea, so my view would be buy top top talent in a few key positions and let the younger members learn and develop around them over 2-3 years. That's better than buying a team of nearly good enoughs.

Zimbo you mentioned leaders
One player who has attracted interest elsewhere and will be available is cech. He will have a few top clubs seeking his service and CL may be an issue but I hope we atleast look at him or make an offer if he's available for a decent price. We are desperately missing a leader at the back.
And I'm sorry mate but skittles isn't a leader or good enough player. Lovren I still have hope he can turn into the player he was but he wasn't a leader either. That's why I would love a top defensive coach or ex player maybe like carragher to come in and work on the communication of our defenders. Someone to shout and organise defence. But you can't work on building that with skrtl in at cb. Its like having a hole in a cup full of water

Ok, going forward if all the loaned players were off loaded as well as some of the fringe first team players and a new manager/coach was put in place. Do you honestly think that it is enough to close the gap on the 4 teams above us, remembering that i will assume that each of these clubs will again improve their squads each season? Personally i don't and as i have said before that we need to get lucky in youth players coming thru, finding the next generation of new superstars, a top manager/coach (the new Mourinho) etc. None of which are by any way a guarantee. By all means work within FFP rules, become more self sufficient but also be realistic while we try to "get lucky"

Agree2 Disagree1

{Ed002's Note - You can be more positive - Ibe is coming through and I have said I was told even at 15 that Ojo would be a real winner, there are no doubt others. The basis of the squad is already very good. A little fresh blood every year and the club is well placed.}

Big Al, I'm tempted to agree. Skrtel has been one of our better defenders at times but seems to struggle to form partnerships. As much as I love the guys commitment and passion, I suspect Lovren/Sakho would form a better long term solution hence my last comment to make them part of the spine of the team.

Rover, I am not 100% sure I buy that, man utd managed to get some pretty top signings in without CL, I personally think players will still buy into a manager, vision, and an ambition to get back into CL over one season without (plus wages of course). The trouble is we're close to being seen as not ambitious enough. That's why I think it's time to try Klopp and I suspect bringing him, plus the lure of more playing time (esp for the likes of Illara, Immobile, Milner etc. ) will draw the 2-3 we need so badly. Failing that we can also always go for the likes of Janmaat or Benteke who won't get any CL action anyway but are good players in key positions we need.

Agree5 Disagree0

24 Apr 2015 17:22:40
Irish Rover,

I know not every signing can work and that every club makes bad ones, but we have a long list of bad ones.

Main issue is you see clubs sign players that don't work out (torres for chelsea, di maria & falcao for united, lamela for spurs, etc) but with most those signings you can see why they were signed and what their role was and in fairness before most of them signed you thought they'd work.

We bought loads of players in the summer who we didn't need, take lallana and markovic. Both good players but majority of people on here said not really sure they were needed or explain why manquillo was bought in? I personally thought mario would work but him and Lambert both being bought didn't make sense because if sturridge got injured (which he did) they weren't players who could fill his spot for months at a time.

Get you get signings wrong but we just don't seem to have any reasoning behind most are signings.

The good thing is that many fans like myself and FSG, want more for our club and we have the owners who crave success like we do. A change from Managerial squabbling:

Captaincy. What difference does a football captain make to a club in your opinion?
Capello is widely quoted as believing we overhype it in England. Personally I disagree, I think the captain's personality rubs off on a football team. It's for this reason I will be delighted if Hendo becomes club captain next season.
Gerrard was known for being a bit quiet as a captain. I don't know him, but I get the impression rather than confront players he'd just try and do it all himself. I don't think that's a great leadership quality. A good leader inspires the whole team, gets everyone working together.
I think Hendo will be a great leader, in the mould of Emlyn Hughes, then man Shankly correctly predicted was going to be England captain after just 28 appearances for Blackpool. I think next season will see the squad re-energised and confidence will be restored under a great new captain.

Come on, give the guy a break. I'm fed up of people bashing Brendan for any possible reason they can find. Has he not improved a large number of the players in the squad? Sure, the transfer record he possesses is not good, but personally I think we'll see next season how good players Lallana, Lovren, Can and Moreno are, and we arguably have already seen flashes.

Fair enough ed.
I do know for a fact that Rodgers did not want him though.
I would not come on this site if I did not respect all of the Eds opinions.I just don't always agree.

Jrome I used to let this annoy me but you just have to let it go we r not paying the wages they r so if it's a choice between us and them money talks unfortunately. But I look at teams like A Madrid they can't compete with a few teams in their league financially but r able to compete at the very top in la liga with the right management I think we will be up for silverware and a title hope that isn't over at Easter.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Apr 2015 20:34:16
Tommy, it is down to coaching and man-management. AM are able to compete because they have a strategy and a manager who actually does his job, takes responsibility, makes no excuses, and is a leader whose players are ready to run thru a brickwall for him. As you may have noticed or not, BR lacks all of these attributes hence, his failure.

Two cups semi-finals and outside chance to qualify for top four(4) means Liverpoolfc are on 'par' as the stature of the club, and Rodgers is only the better manager for the club. who do think will brand Liverpoolfc that?
To me it is only a boyhood manunited fan, a chelsea youth team coach and one time s*n promoter who can take a dig at the club. Rodgers has lost it, Rafa or De Boer for the kop.

Believable3 Unbelievable7

24 Apr 2015 08:26:37
They are on par on where they should be. There is no doubt about that. When you consider everything, wages, commercial revenue, pulling power, money to buy players etc etc Liverpool are 5th in the PL. that's my opinion.

24 Apr 2015 10:34:15
He told the owners he would be challenging, bet he didn't say best they should hope for is no trophies, 5th place and to be knocked out of CL as well was Europa. Basel and Besiktas have a lower wage bill and spend less on players etc. both knocked us out.

Agree2 Disagree1

24 Apr 2015 20:44:22
We are not on par and anyone believing that is as deluded as the man himself. Chelsea are are 19th in spending this year YET we are 20 plus points behind them. This is a team we finished ahead of and spent more than. It just gets worse with this guy. The fact that we are 5th after the same guy running his mouth, wasted half a season trying feed his ego and prove all of us wrong by employing a failed strategy that got us nowhere fast, is a miracle in itself. Suddenly, he`s the right guy to move us forward. To where? The land of failure? I thought we were already there but clearly, we are not based on his deluded comments

To all the Rodgers supporters, a fellow poster informed me that rodgers has spent 215mil on players, transfer committee or not Rodgers would have asked for most of the players. Sakho, coutinho, sturridge and can are so far the only ones who have been successful at a combined cost of roughly 40 mil.

He's constantly making himself look stupid in the press

He's tactically naive against big teams and never has a good plan b. He also brings Lambert on in the 90th minute.

Now please tell me why you want this man as our manager??

Suarez got us to second, not Rodgers

24 Apr 2015 07:36:46
Who will replace him klopp I would have but who else is better?

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Apr 2015 08:08:36
I am by no means convinced by what BR has achieved this season, but I will give him credit for what he did last season. He set up a system from which Suarez benefitted the most.
This summer he wasn´t able to get Sanchez or Costa, which would be qualified as in the bracket below Messi, Ronaldo and Suarez. I´m not saying that we would have won the league if we have had any of these players, but I do think we would be closer to top 4/be within top 4. Also if Sturridge wasn´t as fragile as Elijah Price we would probably have been better.

Rumours say that Gerrard spoke to Suarez when he was having a crisis and wanted out, and said if he stayed and played for another season then he would be allowed to go. Meaning that we already knew a year in advance that suarez was going to leave, yet we weren´t able to find a replacement (this was said on anfield index podcast, so I would not rate the credibility highly)

But all in all, you can´t come with excuses when you´ve spend £100M.

24 Apr 2015 08:28:12
I agree Lerchy! Suarez did get us 2nd.

Agree2 Disagree0

24 Apr 2015 08:48:50
Also a lot of people blame the transfer committee, but the only reason that's in place is because Rodgers was deemed unfit to have full control.

Agree2 Disagree1

24 Apr 2015 10:29:50
I support LFC and as our manager Rodgers success is inevitably linked with LFC's success. So if you want to call me a BR supporter then crack on.
I don't blame the committee. It's too easy. You have to consider who LFC compete with in the transfer market. We compete with richer clubs and presently more successful clubs. We are not in a position to attract world superstars at the top of their game. We don't have the money or the piling power. Every manager has transfer failings, even Klopp, De Boer, Rafa and Mourinho.
Calling transfers failures after less than a season is naive. Anyone who knows LFC can point to Henderson or Lucas as examples of poor first seasons followed by regular first team games. Sakho, I believe, is coming good. Lovren, Lallana, Markovic, Moreno, Can all deserve another season before they are judged. Mario and Lambert I'm not convinced about as I don't think they fit our style of play.
Saying Suarez got us to 2nd is wrong. Suarez missed the first 6 games of that season, 5 of them premier league games against tough opposition. If you don't think 5 games makes a difference between 2nd and 5th then look at the league table. Last season was a team effort, but Suarez is a world class player who's departure has damaged the team in terms of quality, confidence and belief. It has also boosted opponents confidence.
I disagree with Mikey's statement. The board wanted a manager to work with a DoF. Rodgers refused and because they wanted him as manager the compromise was a committee, of which he is part. That's my reading of events anyway.
You can be tactically out-manoeuvred without being "tactically naive". Ask any grand chess master who has lost a game of chess. You can only play a system which suits the players at your disposal who are fit and not suspended. I don't believe Rodgers is tactically naive but he, like any human, makes mistakes.
Ask Pep Guardiola about "plan B".

Agree1 Disagree2

{Ed002's Note - Yet again the dribbling of the "everyone has more money than us" excuse - it is pitiful and embarrassing to read.}

24 Apr 2015 10:53:56
You misinterpret Ed002. I didn't say "everyone" but there are a significant number of teams who do have more money. I'm sure you will agree Mansoor and Abramovich have both elevated the financial status of their clubs above Liverpool. A lot of independent sources can back that up including analysis of wage budgets.

But money was just one of the excuses, you will note I wrote of presently being less successful than many clubs and therefore having less pulling power.

I think I was being realistic.
I'm sorry you were embarrassed Ed.

Agree2 Disagree2

{Ed002's Note - Chelsea are financially self sufficient and Liverpool are spending far more on buying players and have accumulated a significant debt in doing so. Additionally, Liverpool has on going FFP issues because of the financial mismanagement of transfers. You clearly have no grasp of the financial aspects at all and these "Liverpool is so hard done by" and "everyone has more money than us" excuses are truly embarrassing to read.}

24 Apr 2015 11:14:06
Again I'm sorry you are embarrassed Ed.
I am aware of Chelsea becoming self-sufficient and that is to be applauded. I have no problem with them, but if you believe that having more money and being self sufficient are mutually exclusive then I would respectfully disagree.
If you also believe that having more money does not give you a competitive advantage in the transfer market when signing "world class players at the top of their game", then I would disagree with you again.

Why does this have to be about Chelsea and Liverpool? Barcelona, Real Madrid, PSG, Man City, Arsenal and Man Utd all have more money and all have a competitive advantage in the transfer market. Liverpool have a competitive advantage over Portsmouth in the transfer market. It's not a whine about money, it's being realistic with the players we can reasonably attract. Money is just one of the factors as I have repeatedly acknowledged.

Agree2 Disagree1

{Ed002's Note - It was you who mentioned Chelsea. Rodgers has spent a quarter of a Billion pounds in the past three seasons and could have spent the £25M that Balotelli and Lambert cost (ignoring the significant signing on fee and outrageous agent fees for Balotelli) on a very good striker. Perhaps he could have spent the £22M that Aspas, Ilori and Alberto cost on someone who actually players for the club - the list is endless. This constant bleating about how badly off Liverpool are is really, really embarrassing. I don't see fans of any other club acting in this way.}

24 Apr 2015 12:57:53
Ron I agree with you and the points you were trying to make and you clearly weren't bleating on regarding £ restricting LFC (sure it was one of your points), the ED seems keener to focus on this aspect than you. From the outside looking in it's interesting to see the conversation deteriorate and become manipulated in this manner. I think Liverpool have can have absolutely no complaints regarding any lack of £ and whilst being in the Champs League is an issue when it comes to attracting some elite players, the £ provided was more than enough to achieve 4th spot. The manager has not been though.
In terms of your other points I agree that the new players may come good and it may help us out. Hopefully in terms of finishing higher in the league, their valuation and the attraction of playing alongside them. Call me old fashioned but I also like to think the history of LFC can help attract the odd player too.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Apr 2015 13:21:34
ED - You mentioned Aspas Alberto and LLori but how do you expect us to compete with the other clubs when we were sitting around 8th at this point so they were transfers matched to where we were at that time and didn't have the pulling power we may have more of now!!!

You mentioned above Ron Keague posts were embarrassing but really contradicts what you say here about money - Are you saying we could of bought a top class striker at this point who was in a top 4 club with Champions League - Of course money has a significant pulling power

Agree2 Disagree1

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool had the money but it was squandered by Rodgers. You don't seem to be able to grasp that he has spent in the order of a quarter of a Billion pounds for nothing in return - zip, zero, nada. It is a failure whatever way you look at it and if you think buying the likes of Aspas, Ilori and Alberto, not playing them for a year and then sending them on loan because nobody will by them is anything but really dreadful business, then I feel sorry for you. Take a simple example, for what Liverpool spent on Markovic last summer they could have had Pedro - who was available. That doesn't seem like good business to me. Liverpool could have purchased Lovren a year before they did for a third of the money. It goes on and on. The problem is not the ability to attract players, all clubs suffer from that, but the money has been spent very poorly and has given the club FFP problems and debt - but what it hasn't done is given the club success on the field. For me it needs to change.}

24 Apr 2015 20:56:27
Another BR apologist whose blind faith and pro-BR mythe just got debunked and overall, just got schooled by the inimmitable Ed02.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Apr 2015 21:18:17
Ed what about before FFP?
Would Chelsea have breached FFP rules if they were in place before Roman arrived?
You use this ffp as if it was in place when Roman started at Chelsea and Chelsea have always stuck by it.
Nonsense.
You built a super squad for about 200 million pounds when Mourinho was in charge the first time.
Drogba,Johnson,Essien,Cech,Carvalho, Shevchenko et al.
Huge money.
You had to because you wanted success and the current squad was not going to provide it.
So you spent loads of money improving the squad.
Nothing wrong with that but you can't use FFP as a stick to beat other clubs with when it was not a barrier to your squad building in the early 2000's.
If a club wanted to do that now they would not be allowed to or would find it difficult as Man City are finding out.
That is why I can't stand FFP.
It's a con to keep those clubs at the top at the top.
I include Liverpool in "those clubs at the top" by the way.
And don't give me grief for talking about Chelsea. You talk about Liverpool all the time and get away with it.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - There is really something wrong with you obsessing about Chelsea and I cannot see the relevance of what they did 12 years ago. The reason I will talk about Liverpool is that this is the Liverpool page. You clearly don't understand FFP nor the problems that some of the English sides have had with it.}

24 Apr 2015 21:22:42
You can't talk about spending without acknowledging players leaving as well.
Rodgers was not given £250 million and told "there you go fella" win us the league with that.
We have to sell to buy in some instances.
Torres=Carroll and Suarez being a case in point.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - One feeble excuse after another - he has failed completely and utterly - whatever way you look at it. Liverpool has massive debts due to him pissing vast amounts of money away. Zero targets achieved is only seemingly acceptable to you - a few more years of transition.

25 Apr 2015 07:37:16
We will just have to disagree Ed.
The reason I talk about other clubs is because this is a football website.
I am not obsessed with Chelsea at all mate. why would I be?
But I won't stop talking about Chelsea just because you support them mate.
I have no axe to grind against your team.
I do have a problem with you using your club as a model for compliance with FFP while totally disregarding the years of massive spending prior to it's introduction.
The relevance is obvious.
It's not a feeble excuse either. It is completely relevant to point out that Liverpool can't just spend £250 million pounds without releasing players.
Take £65 million for Suarez off and that is 20% of the total recouped in 1 player.
How is that not relevant?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - How can you disagree with Chelsea being compliant with FFP - because they are. Liverpool aren't so you want to bring up what they did 12 years ago. Liverpool have been spending money they don't have - they have been in breach of the regulations and only got away with last season after an appeal to UEFA about writing off additional monies spent on the stadium. They are again in breach this year. For some reason you can't grasp any of this - obsessing about Chelsea is simply embarrassing.}

25 Apr 2015 14:43:27
I think it's embarrassing to suggest Chelsea spending millions and millions of pounds on players prior to FFP has not made it easier for them to comply with FFP now that it has been introduced but there we go.
I don't disagree that you are compliant now. You weren't in the 2000's though. That is my point about FFP.
It is like pulling up the draw bridge.
The only difference between Chelsea and Man City is timing.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool have been pissing money away for years Jonny - ity is not about Chelsea or any other club you are jealous of. It is about Liverpool, financial mismanagement and abject failure. Suck it up and move on.}

Anfield holds 40,000 fans and about 35,000 of those think Rogers has done a fair job. The anti Rogers posters on here are in the VAST minority. 5th in the league is about right for this part of his long term plan, but of course everyone wants miracles and expects us to punch above our weight every season. We have to compete with teams who as a matter of course will go out and buy a £40 million player where as we needed 3 players for that price because our squad last season was too light. At least when all fit our bench this year looks a lot better

Agree3 Disagree1

{Ed002's Note - Rodgers promised the owners a challenge for the EPL and the Champions League this season. The club has haemorrhaged money it doesn't have in support of him over the past three seasons to achieve success on the field and Rodgers has completely and utterly failed to deliver. How many more seasons before his "long term plan" comes to fruition? How much more money that club doesn't have needs to be spent? How much more debt does the club need to take on to win the league cup?}
