Just want to congratulate you lot on raising you game for the 1st and last time this season. You won't put in another shift like that this year. Always raising your game for the big boys

Are you the only "big boys"? No trophies last season and you're the only "big boys"? We raised our game, took a point and should have beaten the current champions and real "big boys" at the moment.
Rigsby.

I'd hardly say it was a 'big boys' performance from the today, more like an old man's performance. No pride in that win..

We raise our game more often than not as we cant rely on dodgy refs and Fergie favours to win us matches.

It was Utd who were at Anfield, not one of the big boys. Now go crawl back under your rock you insignificant little girl

Pointless post mate we know where are own pitfalls are better than you, trust me, we've also put 2 shifts in like that allready and no doubt there's more, wont be every game but you tell me which team plays amazing each week, non do, but then again if decisions go your way you don't have to give 100%

At least we are not relying on refs to keep us one of the big boys

I agree play coates and skrtel as deep defenders and play agger as a sort of playmaking defender, The kind of Joe allen/lucas role but more defensivley

UCCM

Couldnt beat the mighty Arsenal big boys, Liverpool relegation party 2012 2013

md

The mighty arsenal? the one were around our position right now, this time last season? hmm.

Kaizer

Can't beat any 'big boys' just yet.. Can't score, leaky defence but at least we're playing good football.

I'm sounding like a Geordie what's going on!

I heard from a friend that Howard Webb taught mark Hadley how to referee.

And ferguson taught Rodgers how to manage

In 3 years time...

Lucas, Suso, Allen, Shelvey

Maybe we can sing again about having the greatest midfield in the world

:-D

2 & 1/2 years

It's a good midfield but one with no goals in it

I think given a few seasons Suso and Shelvey will be banging them in

Mark lawenson is a clown!

A grade A tosser!

GGK

Why because he isn't being biased?

Disney! {Ed001's Note - he is a United fan and always has been biased towards United. So that can't be the reason.}

I don't think I'll ever be able to look at mark lawrenson again without thinking of a quarter pounder after reading this...

Cuchulainn's Hounds

Disney.....I just don't like him, is that alright with you!?

He is just so wet and unfunny; the problem I have with that is he thinks he's funny.

Whoever told him he was funny has a lot to answer for!

Regarding his pathetic summary, do you think he gave a fair account? I am not asking anyone to be biased just fair....but being from UTD you wouldn't understand.

Cuchulinn-If he was a burger tosser I think he would be suited to Wimpy!

IT TAKES TIME,
we all know this season , we would switch our style of play, which will get better with more games, also brendan has or will let go of all of kennys signings , add to this fast-tracking 7 or 8 of our young players into the first team squad this season , partly due to lack of funds, but also because these young players are really good-and we all knew it would be a tricky start, lets not talk about luck or refs , its time to see the bigger picture , i think brendan will get more goals out of the team , from midfield to the forward -line , it just has to be worked on , and it will.
we might be in the bottom half of the table come xmas , but it will turn , we will become more clincal in front of goal, sterling , shevley , suso will start scoring , our manager will improve the results iam sure of that, this season will be - like one steps back, but heres the important bit - gaint srides forwards in the long-run, stick with the team and manager , its the bigger picture that counts, when you take all these things into account , things are not so bad...............lfc

I was talking to my dad a few days ago. He may support Sunderland, but he can see that once Liverpool manage to fully adapt to Rodger's style of play they will be extremely difficult to stop. I've had a good feeling about Rodgers' appointment though and can see huge progression under his management.

My opinion, for what it's worth:
My mindset right now is that this season is like a "warm up" season for Brendan's system. I believe Rodgers is the best manager we've had in a very long time. I love how our youngsters are getting game time on a consistent basis. I haven't seen that in as long as I can remember.
Of course, the results are not there, no denying that. But, I think of it as an investment, and I think the exposure and time our young players are getting will show next year. Also, Liverpool have not played anything like the way Brendan is trying to get them to play in a long time. I believe our players are still trying to shed Rafa's style of play.
Losing is never fun but I've never been more entertained with how we're playing now. I'll be patient and am looking forward to an exciting future with Brendan and our new-look team. Press on mighty Reds.

wow..how long will this continue.. dominating matches and not getting 3points...was so sad today after we lost cos we didnt deserve it.rogders can get at least 7points from our nxt 3games this bad start would be history..rodgers is really impressing me for the youngsters he gives first team opportunity...

23 Sep 2012 21:55:33
hey readers and eds can anyone tell me whom was shelvey pointing to when he got red card and was walking back? was it fergie? on tv it looked like it was him...just needed to know who it was!

Fregy do say he should say sorry to me. so may be u are right.

It was to purple nose: "I have also apologised to sir Alex , just where I come from people don't grass people up to get someone sent off." - Shelvey

23 Sep 2012 21:48:34
I was suggesting in the transfer window that we should look at Defoe because he's a natural goalscorer, many on here insisted I was wrong...

Chris in Tamworth {Ed001's Note - does it really matter, for one he isn't a natural goalscorer, he just doesn't pass, and for two he would never leave London so it would have been a waste of time looking.}

I'm not sure you can be certain he wouldn't leave London, he is determined to keep his international career alive and I don't think he was convinced that he would get the chance under AVB so may well have been open to offers
He is a natural goalscorer (similar games per goal ratio as Owen, Fowler and Rush. In fact better than fowler and Rush or do you not class those players as natural goalscorers?) but unfortunately you allow your dislike of the player to cloud your judgement (he isn't alone in suffering this blinkered view from you)
I don't want us to get into an argument about who's right and who's wrong lets just stick to the facts and at the moment he's doing what we could do with.
He won't be coming now so it's a moot point I'm just saying my suggestion, which was criticised, appears with hindsight to not have been so wide of the mark after all.

Chris in Tamworth {Ed001's Note - I don't dislike him, he is a nice lad, he is simply not good enough. He left Portsmouth purely because he found that to be too far from London. He wants to stay in London near his family, it is that simple whatever you may want to believe. You can carry on whining about it, or you can grow some and move on, because he would never have joined us.}

Ok so I used the term "you dislike" when I meant "you don't rate". Either way why don't you concentrate on the point which was, I said he's a goalscorer the type of which we need and you and some sheep said "not good enough" the evidence says he is good enough (as I pointed out in my previous post) so how about you grow some and admit that I was right and you got it wrong?

Chris in Tamworth
(You've gotta admit you've missed this! :)) {Ed001's Note - I am not wrong, he is not that good, MOTD fever at its worst. He will go through a drought soon enough, when he does he offers nothing to the team whatsoever. He is also injury prone.}

I'm between you two here. I rate him but couldn't see him coming. The combo of wages and being tied to London. Always liked the player though and was always in a tiny minority in wanting to see him in red.

Len

Defoe is a finisher! Ed your wrong on this 1! Go look at his stats over the past 10 years! Chris I agree and also agreed in the summer he's a goal scorer.

Very proud of our players and fellow fans today. It was a very emotional day and our players did us proud. We were on the end of some horrendous decisions today by the ref. Which surprises me because I think that Halsey was a good choice to ref this game. After the red card we were still the better team. After the penalty we were the better team.

Shelvey, Suso, Sterling all had great games (when they were on the pitch). I don't understand why anyone could be negative about todays game? Considering the circumstances, the horrendous refereeing and injurys. There is plenty of positives to be taken from todays game (except the result).

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

I think I'm missing something!

Erm I'm a points and victory fan and if I wanted just pretty football before success then id be a Newcastle fan.
You should consider supporting another team, maybe Swansea.

Spot on Blair. For me, the stand-out performance was Suso's. Should a kid that age be bossing the midfield and taking over responsibility from Stevie? Just outstanding. We were so good, I almost don't care that we didn't get the points.

good performance from the lads, united fans and fergie should be disgusted with themselves at that win as well as the ref, young lads played well.

for me i would like to see 4,2,3,1 formation, and give yesil a few games instead of borini. he looks like a natural goal scorer, it would take a bit of pressure off borini as he settles (hopefully) id have gerrard centre attacking, suarez and borini either side, then theres a few choices for the 2 holding, i like sahin though does need more games, and shelvey, allen is ok, but for me he needs to get his head up more and press forwards in stead of passing back to the defence, at 22 he walks into a starting position every game, should have him on the bench and see what its like with a combination of shelv, stevie and sahin, would be interesting to see. i also like assaidi, but still have yet to see him in EPL, in the formation i suggested, yesil could be on the bench and suarez the striker then assiaidi and sterling either wing and gerrard CAM, with sahin and shelv. just my thoughts,

Disgusted? We were poor today but why disgusted? The sign of Premier League Champions, not familiar with that are you?

Disgusted with getting an ugly win? Thats crazy talk mate. We didnt mind it when Rafa or big Ged were doing it. Let them have the points. We, as a club, won much more than 3 points today. Our kids and BR's system came of age. We will play much worse than that while winning games this season.

Dissapointed t lose against d mancs nuffin hurts more dan dis BUT HAV FAITH IN BRENDAN pleased we showed fight n most importantli showed class as a football club for the 96 thought our fans were brill

Suso made debut reli happy iv bin waitin likemany of us fansfor a manager t cum in n put his trust in our young players and very happy brendan giving dem a chance

1 negative point borini dont fink hes gud enuf poor touch n clueless wen on d ball at tyms brendan has made 1 mistake not giving big andy a chance something he myt cum t regret hope not but looking dat way
Basy

The most important point to your striker comparison is that borini makes runs to get the ball rather than waiting for it, I know which one I'd rather have in a pass & move system.

Daily fail amongst others are running a story regard FSG expanding Anfield to 60k seater. I believe Macca claimed
this a while back. So another case of lazy journerlism. Or you doubters still unsure of Macca etc?
Lee73

FSG have no money so I would not count on construction starting anytime soon
you known the 4M Dempsey thing.

And the problem on the horizon is that liverpool council would prefer a new ground and a shared one at that with everton so even a re-development of anfield may hold probelms

Their billionaires you tool, they have more than enough money, but they will give the club a budget and the club will have to stick to it, no more over the top spending on mediocre players, which ofcourse i'm happy about.

Have some faith, we've done nowt but lose money so ofcourse they'd like to change that, it all takes time and until then we'll make-do.

FSG are not billionnaires

Henry personal wealth is 540M hardly a billionnaire

The sheik has 35 Billion

Roman 18 Billion

Now who's the Tool?

What is the combined wealth of FSG?
It is more than 40 million {Ed002's Note - The combined wealth of the individual investors in the business is completely irrelevant.}

I think the 50/50 decisions went against us today.
Shelvey could have just got a yellow but he was lucky to escape one before that. It wouldn't have surprised me if he'd stayed on and I wasn't shocked to see him get a red.
Our penalty was 50/50, just as theirs was. It's just they got the calls.
The result was disappointing because I thought United were there for the taking but there were some positives. We did play well and some of the youngsters look ready for the first team and this gives us options, which we are desperate for.
I agree with the ed about Borini; he's playing out of position. If he plays as a striker then it takes pressure off Suarez. And if Sterling and Suso continue to merit a place, then Borini might not have to play out wide.
I think we should also use Henderson's energy more in the system we are playing. You still need some of the physical side of the game, especially in the domestic games.
Overall, the performance was encouraging and a big improvement on the Arsenal game.
Rigsby. {Ed001's Note - Borini picked up a knock, so Suso should get a chance now.}

Suso looked a class above Borini imo

Evans should have red

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8178/8015368309_37ab580c42_o.gif

WOW that clearly shows that Jonjo got the ball and it was Evan's studs that made contact with Jonjo not Jonjo hitting Evans.

1. I think its fair to say the better team lost today. Allen and Gerrard controlled the midfield even when down to 10 men. Been having a debate with a few United fans and what I keep hearing is 'If you can't beat us when we play that bad, you never will'. United were that bad because we made them that bad. Their poor performance was due to our good performance, so I really don't understand that arguement.
2. Shelvey only has himself to blame. I play local league football and hard challenges are part of the game. But, even at pub team level everybody knows that if you lunge in (like he did), you are really taking a chance. Personally, I thought neither Shelveys challenge or Evans' was that bad, but the rules have been in place for sometime, So no matter how much we like to see good old fashioned hard challenges, those days and tackles are gone.
3. After watching the game, Mark Halsey must have decided before KO that over his dead body were LFC gonna win today. If penalties are gonna be awarded for that, we'd have over 100 freekicks and penalties every game. Even when a ref is bad, he should at least be consistantly bad. If he isn't pulled aside by the FA and made to answer questions over his utterly biased performance today it is criminal.
4. Well done to Suso and Sterling again. Thought both were excellent in such a big game. Hopefully both will keep it up and keep progressing as they have been.

We are getting there, but urgently need to turn these performances into points, which i'm sure we will.

Tommy Walsh

After today I'm eagerly anticipating mark halsley's biography, "How to get ahead in english refereeing". The foreword from howard webb should make for good reading.

Poor refereeing today!

great performance from the team, but that has to be the worst MU team i've ever seen, without helsey and with a decent striker in our team it would have been a rout, the futures bright the futures red, give Rodgers some time, some cash in Jan and SUPPORT .

23 Sep 2012 20:58:14
gutted today with result.
performance was top class, a 20 goal striker and we would deffo be top 4.

shelvey, suso, sterling look promising. hope br plays them more and more. maybe have a look at yesil on wed.

but today was all about our 96, fair play to man u before game, and fergie for his kind words. chanting after game by a small section of so called fans, these are sub human. spoke to a friend in man u section, he was sick to his stomack it happened today of all days.

cant wait for wed, then off to norwich. this is a big one now, need three points. life goes on, wheel keeps turning but we will never forget our 96. thanks to 96% of man u fans at anfield today you did your club proud.

Really disappointed to see Kenny there in the crowd today his first attended match since he was humiliated by FSG

He should still be in the dug out

Look at all he has done for LFC including those who perished at hillsborough

Love & Light to you Kenny

A real becon of LFC

23 Sep 2012 20:47:41
really gutted for the lads today, couldnt have worked harder for the shirt. still so many positives this season so far. think weve got a golden generation of players coming through which you certainly couldnt say of united, or really any other team in the league atm. with the new ffp rules coming in thats got to be good news for us! lets keep supporting the team like we did today and we WILL come good.
JKING RED84

23 Sep 2012 20:47:13
For those who slag Roman

Imagine what an owner like him could do for LFC

We would not be in relegation zone thats for sure

And for those who say what happens when he leaves well its 10 years now and many trophys for chelsea and no let up from Roman

FSG let up after one year so how good are they?

It takes massive investment to reach the top

I totally agree!

The Irish Rover

I'd rather not sell out thanks - i'm happy that I can support my team with pride, knowing that we don't buy our glory and never have

23 Sep 2012 20:44:42
Looked like Halsey was given info in his ear piece before he sent if Jonjo, is this allowed? If so was Stevie Wondegiving him the shout? or maybe Slur Alex?

23 Sep 2012 20:43:49
I will be honest.. I'm on the fence with rodgers. He sings all the right tunes but is their really an improvement from last year? I'm not so sure.
Neither less he will get my full support.

No! There is no improvement from last year. Its not me being non supportive. These are the facts! Kenny was judged on his results. Rodgers should be the same.

The Irish Rover

At the irish rover, their results as manager against the same clubs are currently nearly identical.
the difference being that rodgers hasn't been given a £100m+ to spend, nearer £30m. your point maybe true but i honestly feel that if rodgers had been given another £70m like KD had we as a club would be in a far better place in regards to the strength of our current squad and the depth and quality of it.
i say this with a heavy heart as a supporter who witnessed KD and ian rush in action and will forever worship the ground they both walk on. but, i believe that kenny as a manager ran out of ideas just like rafa previously did a few years previous.

how can a utd player dive in the box and not get a card joke ref was a joke ha ha liverpool great today just playing agsaint 12 men

23 Sep 2012 20:37:42
not about the match today, but we all should take a moment and thank god for the fact that Macca was wrong in the summer and fsg did not get allegri the milan coach). a) brendan is boss and b) allegri is losing his mind.
leni

24 Sep 2012 13:04:45
Macca was right we got Brandon

23 Sep 2012 20:34:29
Brendan and the lads will start hauling in points soon and dragging us back up the table. Shelvey is growing stature and I believe Suso will be a star. Keep the faith fellow Reds,
L19 Red

While he's growing he needs to learn not to make lunges like today's effort, even if he got the ball and both should have gone, or neither. Stevie's just about managed to keep those ones under wraps. It does nothing for the team to get sent off. Shame though, he was having a good game.
ND

Thats a bit unfair mate. The challenge was 50-50 and if he didn't put his foot in, we would all be slating him for it.

Len

23 Sep 2012 20:34:12
geten worried now,2points outa 15 is almost acrisis,i like rodgers & hope he gets time he needs ,but didnt kenny get sacked because of results, now were in the bottom three & norwich is next ,now its our 6th prem lg game & its already a must win game ,i know we played well in most of the games so far but if we dont start finding the net soon we seriously could be in a relegation battle by our 10th game ,& lets hope players keep the faith with rodgers cause if we dont win any of our next 3games it will be hard for them to keep the faith with his philosophys, tuff times ahead IRISH RED

I totally understand where you're coming from, my heart tells me that there's no way we will be relegated and that we will pick up and finish at least where we did last season, which judging by our squad and poor start, would be an improvement on last. My head is always reminding me of teams like Aston Villa, Notts Forest and Leeds United who were once great and are now fallen giants. I'm not saying I believe we will be amongst those teams, but it's wholly possible

People, you have to think of the bigger picture! How many times? The clubs future is more than 1 season. Did the city fans all jump onto the utd bandwagon when they had troubles. Get a backbone.

23 Sep 2012 20:19:17
hi eds and all ref really couldn;t handle the game today, but thats not to blame him,its the same problem that wasn;t addressed in the summer a striker to score the goals, and its costing us dearly already lets just pray where there abouts near top 4 come January and we can get someone in but i dont think where going to b there abouts please god i am wrong, ray

23 Sep 2012 20:15:18
Firstly we where unlucky today against a very poor utd side. But saying that there is a lot of things that is not right about our team. Yes everyone knows we`ve not got any real strikers right now but we will have to just get on with that till jan. My other concerns are in midfield and defence. In midfeild we have some decent players there but in all the games so far you could drive a big bus through our midfield and defence. When we give the ball away our players are so out of position it makes it hard for them to catch up on the play. Hense in my opion the lack of clean sheets this season so far. That goes for the defence where they seem to be so far away from each other that when they give the ball away teams just pick us off very easy at the moment. I like brendan Rodgers and the way he likes to play but i think he is trying to drum his way of playing far too much in the players and i don`t think we have the defensive players to do that at the moment. But saying that with a bit more luck the players might get more used to the system. But my main worry is if we don`t start winning soon the players will feel sorry for themselfs and i think brendan should have a plan b when things go wrong but has he?. I hope he is given time. What do others think?.

Andy Kophead.

I thought we were fantastic....

Its a long road ahead and we should be prepared to go through the rough weather....

It will take time but I can already see lots of positives with Shelvey, Kelly, Sterling and Suso all getting game time and we will know about our reserves and youth players a little more this season...You should not be thinking of taking another road to the destination once you have already set out on it.......

We are playing wonderful football and we will definitely be in a better position come the end of the season..

LiverBird

Thanks Liverbird...saved me some typing :)

I absolutely knew united would get a pen today if there was any slight opportunity to give them one. All the press coverage of fergie saying that they never get pens at anfield. They've already been given some dodgy ones this season already - last weeks dive from welbeck for example. The ref was influenced without doubt. Credit to the team today. The young lads were particularly impressive. Suso is ready

They have had a pile of penalties that have been 'soft'. Young, Wellbeck, Valencia (twice!) and I'm sure some more. It is bordering on the ridiculous, it really is. There's no way that they don't practice falling over, no way. It winds me up even more that Ferguson bleats on about never getting penalty decisions.

Nick

Whiskey nose is the Grand Master of spinning just about any angle he can think of. He'll use anything to get a slight edge going - penalties, refs, injury time, racism rows - you name it, he's there slipping in the knife.
Interesting to see so many mancs on this sight - do they not have one of their own? Maybe the Glaziers have sold it?
ND

Very unlucky today, straight red was completely wrong for a solid challenge. We dominated even on 10 men and created more chances, cheated with a penalty that never was but I feel a huge improvement and our young players were awesome. I never expected miracles this season, but like how we are getting better rapidly. There should be no disappointment today, except for the ref and linesmen fellow reds.
Hats off to sir Alex and vast majority of Man U fans, with thanks.

And Luis wasn't great.

23 Sep 2012 20:10:04
We will see brendan rodgers progress after 10 games but the first 5 ain't much progression so far.
Hope he turns it around before we get Steve bruce

23 Sep 2012 19:36:45
I hope ED063 can eat his words about Gerrard. Our best player in the pitch today by a long way. The person who he said should be dropped for Shelvey, rightfully sent off for a very bad challenge (although Evans also should have walked). Anyone who has watched the games this season, pre-season included would have seen this coming... Hopefully this has the same effect on Shelvey as the Boateng red had on Gerrard. {Ed001's Note - you are typical of MOTD fever fans, one good game doesn't mean he is back. Gerrard needs to keep this level of performance up now for the rest of the season.}

Unfortunately not a fever fan. Go every game. Gerrard was very good against City also. If you are basing selection on form over the entire season, on what basis does Jonjo deserve his place? Good game against City, threat off the bench against Arsenal for 15 minutes. Lively against Sunderland and then a good cameo against Young Boys. Surely that doesnt warrant taking Gerrards place who had 1 or 2 bad games this season. Judge him on this season when its over and not last season when he never had a good run of games. We are talking about a club legend here. I suppose you are another one who believes Suarez is a world class player. If we are realistic it avoids dissapointment. {Ed001's Note - but you said Gerrard had one good game today so that proves he is great again, yet now you are saying it doesn't. Which is it? As for Suarez, I don't rate him at all, he costs us chances by wasting possession in the box constantly.}

Rightfully sent off? You're having a laugh. No way was that a straight red. The ref bottled it after everyone was going on about Luiz's high tackle yesterday, and getting the wrong coloured card, so pulled out the red. But Stevie did play well today, but I also agree with the eds - maybe he's just a big match player now? As phenomenal as Stevie is, I think Shelvey is as good as him at his age. No, he's not perfect yet, but neither was SG at 20. The lad has what it takes, I'm telling you.

Nick {Ed001's Note - I disagree on Shelvey being as good as Gerrard at his age, he doesn't have the pace and power Gerrard had.}

I will say that watching shelvey this season, I saw this coming. In midweek he dove in a couple times. He needs a good talking to.
Andrew

Ed001 is spot on about about suarez iv been sayn it for a while that he will never be world class because he offers nothing and as for gerrard he was only good today but he should be at least good everyday shouldnt he? great team performance today, they deserved more today

pd

Was Suarez not part of that great team performance. To say he offers nothing shows that your football knowledge is limited at best. He's not been the most prolific for us but his movement, dribbling ability and all round game make him a great player. Tremendous to watch, truly a defenders nightmare. War Suarez.
JohnBoy {Ed063's Note - He obviously offers something, however he is constantly losing the ball in and around the box which is infuriating. He is brilliant in the middle of the park when he runs at men, but once he gets to the edge of the box he seems to run out of ideas and run straight into the defenders}

Just wanted to congratulate the boys today, they were fantastic and I have to say, I thought Rodgers was excellent! His tactics were spot on, was delighted he brought Suso on which took balls being down to ten men and putting on an in-experienced kid, but he was the perfect player to bring on because we needed somebody with a good touch that the ball would stick with, because that was the only way we going to get anything out of today, by ball retention after we went down to ten men ( liked the way he protected Sterling by taking him off aswell )! No point talking about the ref, we have eyes. Actually don't think it was United bias this time, more worryingly I think refs are reffing our games with preconceived ideas about some of our players and as a team in general before a ball has been kicked, it used to happen with Duncan Ferguson ( ask some blues ) and it's happening with Suarez. Finally I was delighted for Stevie today and I think he rammed a few words back down the critics throats, as I have said before he is our best midfielder by a country mile. Well done boys you deserved a lot lot more today!!

Waro

Totally agree again Waro. Fans need to see Gerrard for what he is ( the only midfielder that can cause damage in the oppposing half). As i said before. You cant legislate for the influence of a referee.

i've only ever been to two liverpool games,
1. was against man u when stevie g was breaking into the first team and then got sent off.
and
2. today at anfield, and shelvey is breaking into the first team and he gets sent off.

if everything goes to plan shelvey could be our next legend

A nice thought but hardly realistic

There will only ever be one Stevie G (just like there will only be one Kenny or one Tommy)

Although I am sure we'll have many pale immitations of Stevie

Shelvey is a good young player but not from the same gene pool as Stevie

Shelvey doesn't have Stevie's temperament.

does suarez only pass the ball when he has no chance of scoring himself or run himself into a blind alley

Mainly suarez runs into blind alleys

Passing the ball is alien to him

But to be fair often he has no outlet

Sad day when realistically we are only expected to beat Norwich and Reading in our next six games.

Without Borini, and the rock of Agger, the team is more toothless and more leaky. The squad can't cope with three cups. Bizarrely the reserve team are now truely needed because of the small ness of the first team squad. So we won't even be able to field the reserves in the upcoming cups games.

I can't see us taking three points from Stoke, or The Blues, or the Chelski Blues.

Realistically, 7 points to add to the existing 2 after 11 games. We'll be around 18 points off the fourth place team. And not a damn thing that can be done about it because there is no plan b alternative. Jmac

There's no such thing as luck in professional sport.
Here's a pertinent quote for you.

Gary Player : The harder I practice, the luckier I get.

Man United were ruthless in taking their chances. That's not luck, that's quality.
Liverpool squandered their chances and yet again didn't turn possession into goals. That's not luck, that's wasteful.
Man United defended professionally.
Liverpool gifted Man United chances, just like we did with City.

It's not luck, all the possession and pretty passing don't win nowt in the Premier league. Just ask Arsenal over the last 7 years. Rodgers is in over his head.

Umm, I'm sorry but did you even watch the match? United won by pretty much their only shot on goal, what was a superb strike from Rafael, and an extremely dodgy penalty decision! We needlessly lost one of our players we did not gift them the win the ref did! We were all over them for most of the match. They could not have done anymore! Maybe united looked like they were defending well but they had an extra player. I suggest you watch it again...

They were luckier than a pile of six-penses in a christmas pud, being eaten by lucky the wonder dog, who just had a lucky escape from a Korean restaurant, thanks to Lassie, who luckily enough for Lucky Dog just happened to be walking past the restaurant at the time, while on a freak visit to Manchester.

How can officials be so obviously biased against Suarez? There's no doubt that when he first came to the EPL his histrionics were a tad OTT, but it looked like kenny had a word in his ear, and he has since toned it down alot. He is constantly being fouled, and they are rarely given. Another dead on penalty today waved away, and not for the first time this season. Valencia wasn't touched and penalty given (also not for the first time this season!). It is strange how so many different refs make bad calls against Suarez. Have they been told by up high to treat him unfairly? I can't think of many other explanations, other than they all decided between themselves at some meeting perhaps. They cant all be that blinkered can they? It just baffles me, it really does. He must be mystified after some games, I tell you.

Anyway, the lads can be proud today. Although Shelvey didn't deserve red today, he does look like he is prone to a red card alot of the time. Let's hope that the red today takes the 'studs up' tackles out of his game, cus he does it more than he should. I do rate the lad very very highly. With him, Suso and Allen, we look good for the future.

I do hope we get a proper goal scorer in Jan. It is what we are missing. Amazingly, we have been missing one since last Jan, and I struggle to comprehend why we don't have one now - it is a glaringly obvious weakness in our team. With a proper goal scorer, and a bit of time, we will be ok. I am loving the youth getting playing time, but we might end up needing them a bit too much with such a thin squad! Fingers crossed for Kelly and agger - they both looked serious.

Anyway, if the bad luck evens itself out over the season, we will be due several undeserved wins! Am gutted about the result, and sour about the refereeing, but delighted with our spirit. We can hold our heads up high, unlike Halsey.

Nick

Last season, after the Man U game, Sir Taggart came on the telly and said 'it's very difficult for referees, because that Suarez dives all over the place'. And he's hardly ever won a decision since! Don't know how he gets away it!

Coyle's Law states......

Except he does dive all over the place and then he screams at the refs just to make sure they all love him. I'm sure he's finding it most helpful.

23 Sep 2012 19:18:24
Great performance by the team today. Shame we didn't have more luck with the refereeing decisions.

Also no blame directed towards Shelvey. Fully committed, just how a Liverpool player should be. I remember watching a young Gerrard and feeling there was always the risk of him being sent off with some of his earlier tackles.

Lets hope the injuries picked up today aren't too serious and we can take this form into our forthcoming games.

Ed's, what are our your thoughts on Borini? Do you think given time he will be able to cut it in the premier league because at the Moment he is pretty woeful. His first touch is poor a lot of the time and he loses the ball. Some of his runs are fantasic though. Or is it that he is being played out of position?

Cheers {Ed001's Note - he is certainly not woeful, he is not a winger though and it shows. He just needs to settle in.}

Ed-what dya base your opinion on? You should all stop making excuses for him-I was at the game today- and I have now seen Borini in all 3 home games - today he showed his limitations again> in the first half when played through his first touch was so poor that he took the ball away from instead of towards the goal. Later in the same half, with no defender anywhere near him, he was not able to pick out Suarez in the middle. In previous games he has had chances but has struck the keeper most of the time.
I (along with many other supporters) am quite certain that he is not the player we and Brendan hoped we were buying. Cut our losses and sell him back to Italy in January and get a more talented attacker.

23 Sep 2012 19:13:15
Okay, can't see a push for 4th this season, however, the key has to be bedding in and keeping the youngsters we have coming through... Shelvey, Stirling, Suso to name 3... we ain't going to be buying big names in the winter or summer.

You never know, this could be the start of what Fergie did with Utd. and the young ones that came through.

Exactly my thoughts as well mate.

Saw someone blame reina for the goals, haha dont make me laugh, no keeper would of saved them! ( but yes i do want reina replaced, you know my opinion on him )

So, so, proud of the boys today, if we was a little more clinical in front of goal we coulda been 3 up. I even have Man united supporters on fb saying how lucky they were....and thats coming from the most ignorant fans who would argue black is white and no is yes.

The ref was shocking, so bad, i decided im going to stop complaining and do something about it, and have enrolled on the fa ref course which starts tomorrow in my town!

Look at performances instead of results during the building process guys. Im really happy with how we play, and yes obviously gutted no 3 points.

Today I was still smiling even after we lost..a lot of players stepped up and silenced d punks saying they should be benched..(Johnson,gerrard).we just lack that killer instinct in front of goal..even after the red card we created chances..borini for me Is a good player his movement and positioning is excellent just needs to improve his finishing.can only hope agger and kelly are not out for so long...it only creates more problems for rodgers..I feel refs tend to favour more prestigious coaches and it kills me when one man should decide who gets the 3points not the players..well its all good nw we have to pick ourselves up and keep fighting..YNWA. Last season: good performances, poor results. Excuse- we're unlucky we keep hitting the post. Outcome: manager sacked.

This season: decent performances, terrible results, worst start for a century. Excuse: poor officials.

Please can someone explain why Rodgers is supposed to be an improvement on Kenny? I thought we were much better last season in performances and results. The summer sacking of Kenny will prove to be a major error and Brendan will be the fall guy.

Our football is a lot better now. The difference was Kenny got 18 months. Brendan as only had 5 games. I think its the best thing that FSG have done is appoint Rodgers let's start looking at the table around Christmas.

mighty reds

Decent performances? Did you watch the game? We absolutely dominated them up but the referee had to intervene and send a player off for a genuine challenge.

BthekingB

He cn only work with what hes got and if he had the 100 mil to spend we would be playing c.league football for sure not finishing middle table this season his signings are much better when this side beds in so to speak they will be a better younger side than k.k would have had

Can anyone clear a bit of confusion up for me? I thought agger hurt his ankle and kelly hurt his knee i know its reported that agger has done his knee but it looked more like his ankle he was holding the day and kelly was holding his knee.

gee man {Ed001's Note - Agger has hurt his MCL, the other ligament to ACL, though thankfully not as serious as an ACL would be. Hopefully, he won't have damaged it too badly anyway. Kelly also hurt his knee, though I am not sure how badly.}

How long would you say agger would be out for eds?

Thanks
Mighty reds {Ed001's Note - impossible to say, we don't know what degree of damage has been done. It can be possible to play with a knee brace, if the mildest form, or it could need surgery, with a couple of months out. Or, in Agger's case, about 6 months out as he heals so slowly.}

Thanks ed

Rdgers biggest mistake was he didn't fix our striking problems when he got money for striker he spent on borini which is realy coasting us. Our season is over before even started. If we are honest goals win matches if you look our team we don't have striker who can even score double figures and january is very far if we are in bottom five then who will come to play for us when they will have lots of options to choose

They should come because we are LFC no matter where we are in the league.

Suarez will get twenty prem goals this season.

Mighty reds

Why didnt they get a lambert or a real scorer like him.

23 Sep 2012 18:56:30
As fans, we probably need to acknowledge that this will be a tough season with the team in transition, a lot of bad luck (already) and horrendous refreeing. I personally think that it would be better if we finish mid-table out of Europe completely so that we can fully concentrate on getting back into CL next season.

Few days back I posted a question on whether Gerrard should be played as a striker and I think his finish today makes a very strong case for him to be our main striker.

Kudos for BR to bring on the youngsters, though would like to see more of Morgan, Pachecho and Yesil.

But there are some Rafa like stubborness in BR. I don't understand why he keeps playing Johnson as the LB. I don't know the stats but I am sure that around 70-80% goals we have conceded have been from his side.

Secondly, I can't understand why Sterling was taken off today. His departure really took away any attacking threat we had.

Would you have seriously played a non match fit enrique in this match?

Progress, it maybe slow but it is happening.

KNEE JERK

We all know what is wrong and most of the problems are down to fsg in the fact that they know best and left us high and dry with no natural goal scorer.
we can not complain about lack of fight by the players for the shirt and its great to see the young lads but if we had a natural finisher we would have beat man u,sunderland and arsenal and perhaps man city we all have to keep our fingers crossed and hope we do not slip too far behind otherwise we will be in a very bad position we could even go down and what would happen to fsgs' investment they do not do every wrong but why did we not address the striker problem its a mystery to me, but as we say things can only get better ynwa , red mick tag

Performance was good today despite a few contentious decisions not going our way. I do have a bit of concern not so much that we are failing to score enough goals but the lack of a clean sheet again. Whilst the sending off was a factor we miss a fit Lucas protecting the back four.

Suso did well and will have learnt a lesson about tracking runners (rafael) and passing cross field balls.

I think Borini needs to be able to play in the centre forward role to gain confidence. Last Wednesday showed his movement is good it is just he is not a winger which is exacerbating the situation. We need a focal point as Suarez wanders to much for a CF. hopefully will get his chance again this week.

Team v Norwich 433
Reina
Kelly
Carragher ( if Agger is not back)
Skrtel
Johnson
Allen
Gerrard
Henderson
Borini
Suarez
Sterling

Kelly is injured.

I would have coates before carragher.
and i think borini went off with a knock on the ankle so i would give yesil a run out if he does not recover in time

No no no what does henderson do

Agree with the team except for Carra. He's an absolute legend but its time to step aside retire with grace and let youth have its chance. Coates should be given the chance to fill the void if Dagger is out.

Or it should be something like this

Reina
Johnson
Coates (agger injured)
Skrtel
Robinson (kelly injured , enriques terrible)
Allen
Gerrard
Sahin or Suso
Sterling
Suarez
Borini

23 Sep 2012 18:36:20
My main points that bothered me in the match is why we didn't get a penalty when Evans brought Agger down? Pen and Red Card.

Evans went in probably worse than Shelvey but his momentum took him through the tackle making it look like Shelvey was worse (why the Ref looked at the linesman when he was closest I really don't know).

Having said that Shelvey has done that a few times already this season (jumped in) so needs to learn from this.

Man U penalty was very week (then again we're not the 1st team this season to experience that).

How can van Persies tackle not be the same as Shelveys? Imo it was worse

Now for me the positives:

The team played extremally well - pressing, creating, movement - we looked good.

Suso and Sterling - wow - technical, strong 9for their size), confident - I must say i'm impressed.

The team with Kelly Right Back and Johnson left back looks a better team (than Enrique in it).

Gerrard plays some great balls to the forwards - great well taken goal.

Best performance (not result) we've had this season IMO.

Hoola

Might argue that we were better against City, but couldn't put too much between them!

ChrisMiz

Do u mean RVPs 1 footed slide along the floor?

And did you notice joe allen was starting to make some forward passes today instead of always passing backwards

Might be one footed but stud showing and from behind with no contact on the ball .FAIR THEN

Fair play Chris - all about opinions; i just thought given the circumstances and that we didn't make the mistakes we did against city - but don't mean your wrong - just hope Suso and Sterling get the opportunity to develop at this level.

could mean a lot in a year or 2's time.

Totally agree!! We got robbed Monday night v Newcastle .... Then what did we do?

I think everyone around the world who watched the game today could see what the problem in football is..... Referees favouritism towards certain teams......it happens over n over again n nothing is done about it..... It's ruining the beautiful game, I'm not bitter about losing today because I was ready for it after the sending off of Shelvy.....we played well today and I'm proud of Liverpool for showing the character they did but yet again we don't get what we deserved because of a referee who spoilt the game......all we want is a fair game of football! But it doesn't look like that will happen anytime soon...... I fear for Liverpool coz key decisions are going against us to many times now..... It happened under dalglish at the start of last season n it's happening again......

Andy

I said it before but it never got posted,,, football needs INSTANT REPLAY !,like american football dodgy decisions go to the replay, the camara does not lie ,, we were ROBBED AGAIN , by a crap referee ,football is too fast now for a fat slob like the ref today and if he is biased,,well you saw the score,, what do you guys think ?

In BR we trust, great performance, suso and raheem are already great, think how good they will be, oh my.

23 Sep 2012 18:02:14
Admit to being fuming after the match both the penalty and sendings off were harsh when Suarez gets hacked nothing was given. I think after the Evra thing refs have got this impression of Luis that they're taking into every game
Suso and Sterling were both excellent today I agree that Reina looks a weak link and think Rogers needs to cut him some slack if he feels a boot up the pitch rather than a short pass he needs backing and onside cue to do so after all he has been a very good keeper for us
Borini for me still doesn't look good enough and I hope Rogers let's Yesil have the same chances Sterling Morgan and Suso have had start him against WBA next week perhaps
If Suarez and Borini aren't consistent enough we need to look at other options now not January. Luis looks like he badly needs a strike partner
Respect to Stevie G as at times today he looked the player hence was

23 Sep 2012 17:59:44
I don't know why we are blaming refree when we can't score if we had even a mediocore striker I am sure atleast we would be 2/3 up in first half sry but borini needs to be droped coz he is worst then mediocore he will even miss with open goal we need gerrard to play as striker as soon as possible our season is turning from bad to worst we can boast how good we are playing but results matter the most. Swansea play best footy in epl but they are midtabe or we want to be new swansea. From now we need to win no excuses or else Rogers needs to think about his position as lfc manager people say how good he is but forget he was sacked by reading

Did u even watch the game today ? We dominated play against 1 of the best teams in the league they couldn't string 3 passes together without us getting the ball back. Yh I agree borini isn't the best but I believe if Shelvey would of stayed on or they both would have got read we would have won easy get off there backs they done well today well done lads nuff respect. Lfc forever

Swansea play the best footy in the premier league?? The were completely and utterly outclassed by everton yesterday. It's hard to admit it but everton are playing the best footy in the league at the present.

23 Sep 2012 17:59:17
Yesil might get his Debut against West Brow midweek since Borini might be out for a week or two.

Wisdom will be promoted with Kelly out for a while.

Sama might get called up to Melwood to add options for CB as Agger's injury looks serious.

Kelly's looks more serious I think...

23 Sep 2012 17:58:18
United were content to let us play footbal infront of them, in all honesty how many real clear cut chances did we actually create? it's the same story all the time, very pretty but no cutting edge.
It's not all about one striker, as a team we do not put the opposition goal under enough pressure.
When untd get to the final third you always feel they are likely to score, who honestly thinks the same about us when were in the last third?

We created plenty considering we were down for 10 men for a massive chunk of the game. We played excellently, end of.

Papa G

I think you are totally wrong with this post. We totally dominated them even with ten men.

Mighty reds

They weren't content, they were being completely outplayed. It is not the man utd way to play like that. They couldn't string a pass together in the first half. We were more hungry and had more energy. Kelly, borini, and Suarez all had chances a top class finisher would have scored. Shelves was missed and we even looked like we might score with 9 men.

They win when playing bad but we don't when we play good or bad

23 Sep 2012 17:55:34
Look at the positives at the game reds we had the game in the bag until stupid decisions were made by the ref but the youth players we have coming through are all adapting
sterling-Only 17 and for somebody so young looks like he has been in the first team for years.
Suso- has the potential to be spains top midfielder for many years. technically brilliant only 18
Allen- as like sterling looks like he has been first team for many years only 22
Shelvey- A player like stevie G but a physical presence who can pass and shoot, isgood with both feet commands games.
All these lads played today at some points, and to be honast we played united off the pitch, and while they looked lost we looked like we really wanted the ball we closed them down won it back and passed them off the pitch, it wont take long before the goals start to flood. Hard to hear about the injuries today but maybe its time for some more of the young lads to show what there capable of the likes of wisdom, morgan, yesil, robinson, flanno. From todays performance i am extremely confident it will get better and i know we will not finish top four or anywhere near it this season ,but its all about giving rodgers time to build the squad we need, and we can all see from todays match how much they are improving each game! stay positive!

eds, one question.
not only for lpool, but these days it seems like referees make match-changing decisions all the time, mostly at least controversial ones (everton- newcastle springs to mind). i'm not saying they are all biased, but obviously they make a lot of mistakes. these days.
my question is: is there an end to this nonsense? is the fa planning to do something about it? cause they are becoming a laughing stock. {Ed001's Note - no, there are no plans to do anything bar technology to check if the ball has crossed the line.}

I get their point, they are comfortable with their crap, but it's awful for the beautiful game. i live in germany and rarely hear complaints about the refs, sometimes from bitter fans, that's all.

I agree the referees are making game changing decisions. I had a thought let me know if u think it's any good.
I was thinking what if the refs went into a league of there own and the get points on the decisions they get right and wrong and the refs at the top of their league get to ref the big games

Let me know what u think reds n eds

Yh I think that's a gd idea would make the refs think about there decsions more
Andy

Refs have always made mistakes/bad decisions. I dont think they are making more than in the past. It is just better covered by cameras these days. I dont know the answer but do we want a stop start game while waiting for a 4th official to make a call on a video replay? We didnt get the fall of the calls today, no doubt but many will argue that in our prime, we did. This does not make it ok but it is life. The boys did us proud and we simply have to build from here and turn promise into points.

Why is there not replay for penalties and red cards? Most American sports have implemented this with success. In each sport people fought the implementation claiming it would slow down the games too much. While it obviously takes more time for the refs to go back and look at crucial calls, I for one would much rather rather them get the call right.

The atmosphere at Anfield was really good today. Damn I am gonna visit and watch Liverpool play someday.

I thought we were really good today. Everybody played their part well, and although bad refereeing cost us the game, we can draw a lot of positives from it. If you ask me, this season, I am really looking at performance than results; and so far BR has done a really good job; bringing on kids who deserve to be in the first team rather than highly paid trash, and they haven't disappointed him.

We will rise! In BR I trust !

It's so nice to come on here and read nice coments ,let's all take the good points from today's game ,the main one being our team was young and can only get better ,whether it's through choice or not Brendon's giving the youth gets the thumbs up from me ,now please Fenway get the youth I.e sterling ,suso ,Kelly ,jonjo , all tied down to long term committed contracts

I just want to say that I thought that we were robbed today the ref had a mare and I am sure he will be ashamed of his performance. We had a stonewall pen not given and shelvey should of got the same punishment as Evans. Also how was evra not booked in the first half and how did van persie not get sent off when he went over the ball. Also cracking dive by Valencia for the pen.

Liverpool were superb today and I love watching the footie under Rodgers. But we have to give him time to build the club I would say at leas three or four years and then let's see where we are.

Would you rather play well and lose or play bad and win? I know which I'd prefer. United (to give them a little credit) have done this time and time again, shocking today but win(albeit with a lil help from the ref).
I agree with optimism from performances but football is a results BUSINESS .

Yeah buts its a damm hard business when the ref obviously favours the opponents.

I see teflon PEPE REINA is still getting away from blame. Nothing sticks to this guy eh?

The attempt he made for that first goal was a disgrace to the performance of the outfield players.

Any other goalie worth a quid would have been fully out stretched clawing through the air like a tiger after a gazelle. Instead we have this spanish attempt of a half hearted fosby flop each and every time. It pains me to watch it and it hurts even more when I see fans calling the manager and the outfield players who are giving far more in terms of effort and performance.

2 shots on target, 2 goals, speaks for itself. same statistic game after game after game.

It would take a brave manager to oust Pepe Reina due to the support this guy has with the fans but for me personally its one of the points I am going to judge Brenan Rodgers by. If he has the bazookas to make the call to drop reina then he wins my admiration hands down. 3 managers before him have failed to make this call and look where its got them. Rodgers knows the benefit of the right man between the sticks and I also know he can spot one, we only need to look at Vorm to know this.

And for anyone who would be quick to to talk about reinas golden glove awards I would have to point immediately to the defence in front of him. I fear the feeling of admiration for reina has been earned more from the excellent performance of the defence in front of him. Now that carra has aged reina is being exposed for the calamity that he really is.

For me the outfield players are fine, performing well and creating chances. Its a goal keeper we really need and I would like it noted I am not even asking for mega bucks from the owners to buy one. I would like to see Gulasci promoted he is a fantastic shot stopper and that is what we are desperate for at the moment....

Huws {Ed001's Note - no way could he be blamed for the goals, no keeper would have got to them. Now if you wanted to question his dreadful distribution and constant giving the ball away or playing a player into trouble, now then you would have a point.}

Are you really suggesting that Carragher made Reina looked good. How ? by parking a deckchair on the penalty spot and shouting out ! out ! at the younger players or his 20 odd back passes per game ? maybe the way he mistimes the bounce of the ball and it baloons off his ankle into the air ?

You clearly haven't got a clue about goalkeeping, the goal by Rafael is near enough unstoppable, he curled it round a defender from a position where you are not expecting a shot and to add to that it goes in off the post. Admittedly Reina has made a few mistakes recently but not today. If you want to point the finger at anyone for Uniteds equalizer then blame Suso for allowing Rafael to run past him without tracking back

Even with arms some x3 the length he wouldn't have saved that!!
Didn't bother reading the rest of your post after that.
We were robbed again end of.
Great performance today, we played really well.
Don't expect miracles so early on , we être dreadful last season, were not gonna be title contenders this year.

Paul the red

Thank you for the above comments, they clearly prove the point I am making. You leap to the defence of a guy who clearly makes half hearted attempts at saves each and every week while still collecting his full amount in wages.
ED001 I am not blaming him for the goals, I am pointing out his lack of desire to make the save. We've had 80 odd shots at goal already this season, more than any other team in the league. (Same thing that happened last season) Which cleary shows that every team we play has a better goalkeeper than we do since we're losing games to opposition that only create 2 chances per game and score goals. The finger of blame clearly points at the keeper for this before any of the outfield players.
To the end poster quoting "admittedly Reina has made a few mistakes recently" I think you'll find its been happening for a very long time now

Huws

I have to agree with you I've said over and over Reina doesn't want to be here any more and I'm convinced he's playing for a move, his whole demeanour and his body language tell me that he wants out.

I believe BR is doing a great job last season we were all shouting for sterling to be involved more this season he has been outstanding , the start of this season we all wanted suso to be brought into the starting 11 and he came on and did well and must surly be pushing for a start in the league . We are a very young team ( gerrard and carra apart ) and the football we have played in our last 2 prem games has been some of the best football we have played for years . Its coming together and think we can all see that ( barring some ) . Just need to be patient once we get our first win then we will start picking up the points easy enough . Cheers lads and lassies let's stick together and support the boys 100% YNWA

Jamesy

Do you really think these young players would be given a chance if our bench was full of International players. They have been given a chance by FSG's refusal to spend money in the transfer period. Personally I for one am glad that this has happened, It's no good having a 1st class Acadamy without using them,it gives the youngsters the experience to step up and enhances the chances of them signing long term contracts

Its unbelievable how many times that man utd get refereeing decisions in there favour, everything went in there favour yet again today.....what is going on? It happens week in week out! Why is it that every fan can see it but the FA can't..... Am I the only one who thinks that there will only be a level playing field when fergie retires? It's about time something was done about it! People try to promote fair play etc but we never see it! My view on the game is...... I can see why he sent Shelvy off, it was his intent that did it, yes Evans played his part n should of gone too, the penalties were a disgrace, ours was clean cut, but yet again man utd get there's when he was on his way down in the first place....is it written that man utd have to get penalties no matter what, if one of there players go down its an automatic penalty! We played well enough and deserved something from the game, but I knew after sending off that we would get beat! Things aren't going our way at the moment which does worries me a lot, it's happening to often now for it to be a coincidence.....we really need to win our next league game or I think it's going to be the same old story yet again......I just hope the referees start bucking there ideas up or I fear for us

Andy

Things haven't been going our way now for over a year mate, but today tops it!

To all the naysayers......

We played them off the park, The youngsters look exciting and with time will become world class, granted we need a finisher but look at previous strikers, once Borini is off the mark he'll be flying too,
Give the lads a break, we all knew it would take time to gel this new system together and the signs are its starting to come together,
Ive no doubt 11 vs 11 today would have seen us win that game today.

Just a footnote too but for all their non Hillsborough chants the Manchester fans are still the most disgraceful in the league, they cannot resist some of the ridiculous chants that we 'dont' need in any ground in the Prem,
Good luck for the rest of the season cause youve nowt to come on that display.

If Dalglish was in charge then everyone will be calling for his head now!..
I'm not saying rid of Rodgers but the lack of respect to Dalglish was just plain shocking.
You wanted rid and wanted Rodgers so stop blooming complaining!!.

I have to say Hodson got off to a bad start and got the boot a couple of months later. how long will Rodgers get if these results keep going the way they are???

Dalglish blew a wad on dodgy signings and Roy wanted us to play with the rigidity of table football. Neither had such a tough start to the season, nor was it that evident what they were trying to do. Give BR time, measured over a season at least. We out played both Manc teams already ffs

If KD was in charge we'd be short of a lot of cash and no hope for the future - this team has a great future - that's the difference -

Hodgson got the boot cos he signed crap players and played crap football, Brendan has done the opposite, he has done virtually nothing wrong since he's been here.

23 Sep 2012 16:37:20
Looking at the comments from everyone and eds, shouldn't there be some form of checks in place to ensure that bad officiating have consequences to the referees?

Referees that make mistakes and should apologize after the game when they see the replays!

Great play from the team today, bad officiating costs us. BUT i still have faith, as do many fans!

YWNA, JRedSG {Ed002's Note - Referees will often apologise for incorrect calls.}

Ed, I doubt very much an apology would make us LFC supporters feel any better about today's robbery...something should be done. Refs should be made accountable. And I don't mean regarding free kicks and pens, all teams have pen appeals turned down and wrongfully given, but sending a player off so early in the game completely changes the dynamics! And something should be done about inconsistent reffing - today was a perfect example. Absolutely furious.

Apologies don't bring points back

Alright lads lets be honest. We did play well, very well infact but once again we failed to convert our chances and it's really starting to tell.
Man u were disgraceful in their attitude toward the game, I'm sure they'd be up in arms if an opposing team had played like that were Munich was concerned. That though doesn't detract away from the fact that we need at least one quality striker.

23 Sep 2012 16:34:32
I thought the players and the fans in the main were excellent today. We played really well but lacked a cutting edge to make the difference

Utd were very poor and were lucky to get all 3 points. Think both Evans and Shelvey were not in control of tackle so either yellow for both or red for both.

It took a brilliant shot for Utd to equalise and you can contrast the two penalty incidents - very similar but Suarez is a marked man. Will any ref ever award a penalty for a foul on him again.

Unfortunatley their penalty came from another defensive error and this is reason for our low league positions .. we make a bad error each game and it usually results in a goal against.

Hopefully we can build our defence up as it looks like medial ligament damage for Agger. Looks like back 4 will be Enrique coates/carra skrtel and johnson for next few month.

Thought Gerrard had a really good game. I just wish we had not been so knee jerk about Carroll and kept him ... we could have used him today.

BR will get us there but this is going to be a very tough season, don't lose the faith.

Well our next 6 EPL games are..
Norwich A
Stoke H
Reading H
Everton A
Newcastle H
Chelsea A

Surely that's 10points secure!..
( or more excuses but pretty football).

We need a general in defence and a striker who know where the goal is.

Pretty football is what got Swansea reconised and we all know what happened to their manager!..

For us to have any chance of a successful season we need 3 wins 2 draws and only afford 1 loss AT THE VERY LEAST.

but in a perfect world this is what we all want.

norwich - win
stoke - win
reading - win
everton - win
newcastle - win (anfield)
chelsea - happy with draw (if we lose we lose)

2pts max draw Norwich and reading rest defeats

If we beat norwich, stoke then reading convincingly, then we could win 5 out of 6.
Confidently sweeping aside everton and newcastle, maybe losing to my title favorites chelsea. But who knows.

Hirst

My prediction:
Draw
Draw
Win
Loss
Draw
Loss

= 6 points

23 Sep 2012 16:29:41
I was really really left very optimistic about our future after that performance the fact that Utd needed the referee to help them defeat a 10 man Liverpool barely is enjoyable. I enjoyed watching that game despite the fact we lost.

23 Sep 2012 16:29:09
Unlucky today, but only the most optimistic of fans would have predicted anything but a loss or draw before the match, especially on current form.
I was thinking 1-1 before the match.
But yeah we could have won that one, let's not blame the ref because we could have won regardless if we took our chances.
We are starting to get more things working on the pitch for us and I would say that was arguably our best performance so far this season.
But without a goalscorer in our team it's going to be a hugely frustrating season for us.
Let's hope borini or Suarez or yesil starts finding the net.

MIKEY

Don't blame the ref your away with the fairy s

Carroll would have slaughtered that Utd defence

Being a Liverpool supporter might be a rollercoaster of emotions but I would not swap it for anything else. It seems that Brendan Rodgers's revolution has truly started even if the results haven't shown it yet. A lot of the players have come up with the hunger this clubs deserves and has stayed true to the philosophy of the club's greats. I am convinced we will soon reap the rewards. As far as I am concerned, the buzz from watching our games has been equal to the determination and desire of those players who have started the season so brightly. I don't envy any other team's supporters, for I know the future is bright. Keep your head up boys, good things come to those who wait.

I like your post, and I believe in Buck, but I won't believe the revolution has started until we put in a performance like that against one of the clubs outside the top 6. I don't think we can use a match against united as a mark of our progress, we always turn up against the Mancs.

23 Sep 2012 16:24:33
BR either needs more time or more money...FSG have made it clear that they will not pay over the odds..
Now i hope that that the Fans and FSG give BR the time to build a team of players he wants playing with a style he wants..
I think it will take BR 2 seasons at least to get us competing for top 4.
i know this will be hard because we all have so high expectations...but keep faith.

Pankaz {Ed052's Note - We have played 5 games, and people say he needs more time, I think thats just ridiculous. We have played 3, top 4 teams, our bogey team - Sunderland, and a hard team for anyone is WB. Just be bloody patient and support the team. We dont need more money - it'll be fine}

I have said it before, but I am going to have to say it again, we need an agree/ disagree with ed button.

Just back from match very good performance by the 10 men in red against the 12 men in white and black, disappointing result.

Red Flag Flyer

Very well Mike. 1st off this reli wasnt meant to turn into a rant about the how loyal or patient the fans are ed the crowd were brill and given the recent crap with liverpool on and off the pitch I think were allowed to be a little less understanding than usual.

Youngsters were solid altho why they are playing in one of our biggest matches of the season I have no idea I think its absurd sterling suso kelly shelvey are all good but what is the point of having experienced and expensive players if there not good enough to play in our most important matches either sell them or play them.

FAR too early to be commenting on rodgers reign regardless of what some fans think ( and I am still not 100% convinced he is the right man to lead the club forward but no judging untill at least 10 games in.)

Clearly goals are an issue somethings got to change in that regard if we are going to have a successfull season no good passing and playing utd of the park if with all our chances we score 1 and with what 4?

chances for united they score 2 something has to change

Nice to see everyone shaking hands and crowds being respectful

Lets face fact ,nice passing in your own half ,very poor defence and the weakeast attack in the prem all adds up to one thing relegation .dont get me wrong BR knows how to play the game but when you bye poor players that what you get .dont keep blaming the owners he spent £25 +million .bought players he wanted and playing his way .so it won't get much better just like the arsenal good football rubbish results .but this is results game simple .will be our worst season ever . {Ed052's Note - Yes, we will soooo be relegated this year, becuase relegated teams always play both manchester teams off the park dont they!?}

Ed52 we have played united off the park for 5years but today we did it in our own half watch arsenal played city off the park first half arsenal 1.0 down fact is play the nice passing game on the eye win nothing goals win games and defenders to do there jobs

Ed Why do we always see persons posting non sense and then have no guts to sign their posts?

23 Sep 2012 16:16:53
We were robbed. Simple. The Ref gave us nothing.

Shelvey's tackle was a 50-50 with Evans, who also showed his studs. If Shelvey was off then so should have been Evans. No wonder he blew hit top. Their penalty was soft to say the least and not as clear as the one Suarez should have got. Though his exaggerated head movements probably counted against him.

More than half the game with ten men, but still more chances and more possession. United were battered today. We lost for one simple reason, not enough fire power up top. Again, if we'd had the option of bringing on Carrol we have won. But that option is gone, so we have to look at the positives.

No win at all yet and no win at home, but we have played City, Arsenal and United. The next home game we will win convincingly. That assumes that Agger and Kelly's injuries are not serious, and of course Shelvey is now out for a few games.

Our squad is thin, but our style and commitment is looking good and some of the youngsters are developing well.

Difference is Evans went in two footed and closed his eyes

shelvey went in with one foot won the ball and evan's feet took shelvey's momentum, swung him around which made shelvey's left foot follow.

11 vs 11, we dominated the mancs.

10 vs 11, we eere more than a match fot the mancs.

Unfortunately, for nost of thr game it was 10 vs 12.

The stats say it's our worst start in 80 years BUT I really like some of the football we have started to play. And seeing that kind of football and seeing the likes of Suso and §terling coming thru (with more to come) makes me feel more positive about our future.

Bad refereeing today. Not red not penalty. If shelvey was red vpersie should have been off for suso challenge. If valencia was penalty then agger should have got one in first half. I don't think the refs are ever going to change until fergie retires. Our boys were fantastic we outplayed them over the park. Justice for the 96. We still have a long road ahead just have faith. Remember those families that lost their loved ones wake up everyday without them. We shouldn't be upset today but think of how proud we were today standing side by side. Disgraceful officiating today!! We deserved a huge win. As much as we were the better team some things Rodgers did were not understandable- Putting F..king Henderson on for Sterling and not having Coates or Wisdom on the bench, forcing Carra having to come on.

Both Agger and Kelly will be out for a while....! 3-5months it's just my guess could be more though hope not, hope it won't even be for 3months, but it looks bad.

They both look to be a similar injury to the one lucas had or at least the same as each other.

Wisdom will now be fast tracked and possibly Sama also be fast tracked.

anyway. shelvey was unlucky that was a side foot that he went in with but RVP went in with studs & two footed against Suso where is the logic in that?

suarez's was as much a penalty as valencia's pen was and where was the freekick at the end from evans going through suarez on the edge of the box in injury time?

and even before that, Agger should have gotten a freekick for a utd player obstructing him in receiving the pass by running straight in to him leading the utd getting a pen.

poor refereeing. {Ed052's Note - I dont think the players mentioned will be out for that long. i wouild say a few weeks for Kelly and maybe a couple of months for Agger, just looking at their injuries as they came off the pitch. I hadn't realised, but Flanagan is injured too, which is a worry. And for now, I would guess that Johnson will go back to right back (where he is rubbish) and Enrique to left back. But I would agree, Wisdom and others may get a chance}

23 Sep 2012 15:54:27
eds , can you answer these question ?
1. if shelvey got red card for two fotted silding tackle then how could it possibble to carrick and RVP stayed on the field after two legged silding tackle?
2. if suarez didnt got penatly after log contact , then how could it be possible to valencia to get penalty without leg/foot contact?

dissapoint with result , but we are in the right track to win many even much game to come !

evander , Indonesia , YNWA ! {Ed052's Note - because ref's dont like to be fair or even it seems, and we were playing at Old Trafford remember ;) Valencia wasn't even touched, Suarez was, I dont understand it mate, at all. And it'll all click into place soon. We are getting better and better}

23 Sep 2012 15:53:43
When two players dive in two footed i dont understand how someone gets sent off when they both play the ball?

Very little contact on valencia or the suarez shout for a penalty yet one is given and the other not??

Down to ten men and we trade the tireless running of borini for the inexpirience of suzo. He didnt track rafael for the first and gave the ball away for the second?

I think were a very good side on our day and our luck has to change, and thats going bk to last season! I have faith in BR but pray its luck we lack and not quality! Sign of a good team is a team that play bad and win, grind results out, nick a goal at the end, sad to say that just isnt us! {Ed052's Note - I think you are a bit harsh on Suso. If it hadn't have been for him, we would not have scored and we would have struggled to create any more chances after that. Borini was really good today, but he may have been taken off for some more flair. he will no doubt start on Wednesday}

Sudoku wasn't on the field for the first Utd goal

23 Sep 2012 16:10:15
What were they singing towards the end? To the tune of YNWA? Was it supporters? Very proud of the lads today. Not surprised the red won it for them, they battled on though. Don't blame Jonjo for being angry, and spouting off at Fergie, there aren't enough people who do

23 Sep 2012 16:09:04
turning point of the game today was rodgers taking sterling off and hen"im rubbish"derson coming on ...still wondering why that happened ..we were outplaying utd with 10 men

23 Sep 2012 16:06:24
I feel sorry for br how is he supposed to compete with the big clubs with the weakest squad in years .fsg need to spend in jan we cant expect kids to fil in

The scousers played well today and were unlucky but I would expect no less against Utd

Borini cost how much?

Channel 5 have got a new show out call Being Manc starring Manc Halsey

Paulie

23 Sep 2012 16:00:40
We lack goals from midfield and attack

Really.....I thought we scored 5 the other day !!

We sure did but remind me who we played again?

23 Sep 2012 16:00:33
Watch the reply. Shelvey did a leg-breaker. Then blew his top at the world.
United seemed happy to sit back and watch us passing.
The flaw with the passing game is the quick player that runs at you, like Valencia.
Pleased Suso came on. Borini doesn't look much.

Reddo {Ed001's Note - hardly a leg breaker, ridiculous statement, he won the ball and Evans feigned injury to get him sent off. It was a challenge he shouldn't have made, but it was never a red card and there was no danger of injuring Evans, hence him having to pretend to be hurt.}

Well I watched the replay as well. I winced as Shelvey's studs went into Evan's shin. The ref was on the spot.
Be objective editor. It was a red card. Then Shelvey pointed at Ferguson ? As he went off and barked at him.
This type of behaviour will not help us.
United were poor, yet we could not take advantage of it.
Hurry back Andy !

Tommo {Ed001's Note - I fully agree that Shelvey was out of order with his actions afterwards, but his challenge won the ball cleanly, wasn't high and at worst was reckless, which the rules say is a yellow card. If you are that much of a pussy that you think it was a hard challenge, well then you are the reason rugby fans laugh at football! It was not at all dangerous. You are a joke lad or a United fan if you think that his studs went into his shin. It was his follow through left leg that whipped round catching Evans with studs, not his leading leg.}

Evans went in two footed, studs showing.

Shelvey went in side footed, 1 foot.

"This type of behaviour will not help us". That says it all - who the hell do you think Fergie is? The Pope? It's refs like Halsey and the FA and the media kissing Fergie's arse all these years that has led us to the unfair playing field we had to deal with today! He's just a manky old scotch git who coaches a football team for crying out loud!

Coyle's Law states......

23 Sep 2012 15:59:20
Is it written that man u receive a penalty in each game they play in? Suarez as has been said does himself no favours with theatrics. He was brought down and it was as much a penalty. I understand the rules now days and why perhaps Shelvey went but Van P's tackle late on was as bad. I dont want to write about referee's but again we suffer at a poor display. Is Kagawa the new Drogba, the lad was never on his feet at the slightest brush! I know thats the modern player but today is a tough pill to swallow after such a fine performance, chin up lads you were top draw, every one of you! Hope Agger doesn't have a fracture.

I don't think Van Persie touched the ball until after the sending off! And Kagawa won more frees than he had touches!

But even the law of averages would tell a ref that out of 5 key decisions in a big game, at least one them must have to go Liverpool's way!

It's simple behaviours stuff. Why did Halsey send off Shelvey but not Evans or Van Persie? Because he wanted to! Why did he give Valencia's pen and not Suarez's? Because he wanted to. It's also known as cheating.

Coyle's Law states.......

23 Sep 2012 15:50:03
Can anyone tell me if M. Halsey has been offered a contract extension from United? If not, we should bid in Jan....forget a striker...he's a man who can dictate a result!

A gutted K.Bennett {Ed052's Note - Apparently Utd snapped him up in the summer, and he is rotated with their other refs. After his great performance this weekend, a contract extension is on the table}

23 Sep 2012 15:49:00
Very pleased with our performance - controlled the game and were clearly the better team. Great performance from Gerrard, my MOTM, and Johnson. Fantastic debut for Suso. Ref cost us the game - complete shocker - Halsey you're a complete tool of a ref! Singred

23 Sep 2012 15:46:52
and I thought the ref against WBA was bad....

23 Sep 2012 15:46:36
to all the BR out brigade i hope you watched that performance it was an excellent performance from every single player today.
beaten by 2 refereeing decisions, RED card - never 50-50 full bodied challenge and Evans was as much to blame for a so called dangerous challenge so how can he send 1 off and not the other. IMO play on get up and get on with it i love to see a full on tackle like that but unfortunately they are taking it out of the game. having said that both players were equal in the challenge Evans was off the floor,as for the penalty....never a pen but what about the one on Suarez.
well played LFC terrible ref performance
better days to come i believe

gra2966

I agree but the end of the day is its a game of results and the league table doesn't lie.
What make Rodgers so differant than that of Rafa,Hodgson and Dalglish?
It's a game of results. {Ed052's Note - The league table doesn't lie, but our fixtures get easier. We have played almopst half of our hard games for the season. It'll only get easier}

BR OUT! Worst start is so so long. Harry R in and quick please. {Ed052's Note - hahahahahahahahahahaha}

Is that you Jamie Redknapp?

Harry ramsden?

Bye bye Brendan, you aint good enough son - FACT

We have a resident manc in the house! How did it feel to be outplayed by ten men? Piss poor team mate!

Ian the red

Arguably the most ridiculous comment on here of all time. if you can't see how exciting the future is after that passing display and quality of the youngsters coming through then i salute you mr. wonder

On what count? A bad refereeing display? We bossed it in footballing terms, look at the stats...

ChrisMiz

Original poster here, lost to WBA, Arsenal and a draw at Sunderland, as i say, Rogers aint good enough and im not a resident Manc, we hate them more than you so it will be easy to work it out where im from.

23 Sep 2012 15:44:21
is that a penalty? did he touch the player before he go down?

23 Sep 2012 15:44:06
arguable the worst loss I can remember; considering the importance of the day, the opposition, and how badly we needed the points and the confidence...

we played that well and at home and couldn't get a point...we will play a lot worse than that during this season...

23 Sep 2012 15:43:55
Aren't you all sick of saying we were unlucky?

Not unlucky, is unfair

23 Sep 2012 15:43:04
You can be the best team in the world and play the best football but you cant legislate for absolutely shocking refereeing decisions.

The Irish Rover

Note: You don't get the same ref every week.

23 Sep 2012 15:41:40
the match demonstrated why i dislike man utd. got away with dodgy tackles and referee wins the game for them. the fa should just give them the title nd save us the trouble.

23 Sep 2012 15:41:11
Well done to the ref today what a joke he was dreadful it was 12 v 11 eventually 10 hope he can sleep tonight but then he got result he wanted

23 Sep 2012 15:41:05
Great performance, great heart from every player today. Let's not get on Shelvey's back, he's young and made a mistake whether it was a red is debatable.

I guarantee that we'll see several "Get Rodgers Out" posts in the coming hours - but our luck wasn't in again today. Anyone who saw the game like me will realize how well we played and will have faith that we'll come good.

Worst start in however many years, but have we ever had a more difficult start especially with new players and new ideas being integrated and implemented.

Keep the Faith
In Rodgers, I Believe

Hans

Hans I applaud your faith but if luck isn't with us the rest of the season then we are struggling...
Would you still back Rodgers if we are still in the bottom 5 come Christmas?
2points from 5games is simply shocking regardless of who is the manager of how pretty our football is.

I've agreeded with you all but the Shelvey 'mistake' part mate, I think it was 50-50 and both players had studs up, what ever punishment was dished out to one should have been given to the other, DF got away with it because he stayed down and Shelvey didn't - this was his mistake IMO.
KernowRed

You make your own luck, we just need to vary how we play and dare I say that Carroll should not even been considered to be loaned out or sold as that would have been another variation to our game - PLAN B - something alot of you I know won't agree with but even Ex LFC players are saying it.
BR will come good.
KernowRed

In answer to your question, yes.

Hans

23 Sep 2012 15:41:05
It's a game of results and 5 league games played 2draws and 3defeats and -6 goal differance is simply not goodenough!..

Excuses can be made but excuses is don't win games and defeats costs confidence.

Yea your right lets sack the manager and spend 200 million on new players!!

Or lets realise where we are at the moment, back the manager and keep the faith, todays first half performance was excellent, pitty the refs performance wasn't the same.

Evered

No we should stick by our manager as west ham did with Avram Grant... loyalty is what we are about!.

Of course our performance today was excellent after all it was our cup final. If only we played with the same passion and intensity against the so called lesser teams.

23 Sep 2012 15:40:38
just wanted to give martin kelly a mention for being fantastic today.

23 Sep 2012 15:40:04
Immensely proud today, but totally shattered by a refereeing performance which was so bad that the only words i can find for it are banned by this site.

Gerrard totally immense, just hope the 2 injuries aren't bad!

23 Sep 2012 15:40:03
Liverpool brilliant, ref disgraceful. That's how I'll sum up that game. He really handed Utd the win today. Utd were piss poor for the most part. Again the get all the decisions and guess who gets the rubbish end of the stick.

23 Sep 2012 15:39:32
I'm actually sick and tired of commentators and pundits saying how wonderful we played. F**k how wonderful we played I'd rather we get wins. The fundamental purpose of football has been ruined by the Barcelona followers who believe that pretty football is wonderful. WELL without a win it's complete s**t! Football is about winning not about being pleasing on the eye regardless of result. In other words, application is secondary to result and not the other way around. I know loads of you will disagree but I'm just venting my frustrations right now. UN

Clearly didnt see the refs part in the game then mate

No I agree mate. We do have fight in the players and some good young players, but we have to able to adapt tactically to certain games.we are nowhere near as good as BARCA so we need to be able to win games without style sometimes. Sad to say it but a bit like United did today, no style but three points. Rodgers right now does not have that experience, but maybe he will one day I don't know. All I know is that we need o learn to defend as a team better especially when we have gone one nil up. You literally can feel a goal coming every time a team attacks us. {Ed052's Note - If we want to win like united then we need a squad of Ref's first, and they dont come cheap!!}

Don't apologise - that's a fair point well made. It would be nice to have another attacking option. Perhaps a big England striker up front to cause problems. Anyone know of such a player?

23 Sep 2012 15:39:01
RVP should have been sent off and suarez should have gotten a penalty as well as a freekick right at the end, the ref was too inconsistent

23 Sep 2012 15:38:57
We can hold our heads up high after that one guys, we played really well, were by far the better team and only lost because of the referees involvement. If we continue to play like that then we will be fine although if our luck doesn't change soon then that witch in Manchester who jinxed us is going to get a visit.

23 Sep 2012 15:38:56
Proud of the lads.....
Wish i could say the same for the ref. Shelvey did have one leg in with studs but he actually contacts him with the side of his foot so a disgraceful decision.
Cant believe the soft penalty either considering the soft penalty claims we had turned down.
Seeing improvement under brendan, give him time!!

JC

23 Sep 2012 15:37:39
If that was a red card and a penalty then I fear for the game.

Really glad go see the day went without persons spoiling it.

23 Sep 2012 15:37:10
Yet again Liverpool out play.

12 v 11 (or 10) Enough's, enough.

There needs to be a video ref for important decisions. It works for cricket.

Football is too high profile for constant mistakes by Refs
and i think the game will benefit if brought in.

Goal ref & Hawk eye first. Video Ref second.

23 Sep 2012 15:36:17
We played well again today as we have all season but it's hard to beat a 12man united.
Two worrying problems are our lack of fire power and our points tally.. Hopefully we will hit a winning run before our confidence drop and we really have to struggle.

Last season was much the same and our league position was the final nail in Dalglish's return so I guess Rodgers needs to get points ASAP.

23 Sep 2012 15:36:11
Great effort from all the players and good choice of players and courage shown in BR selections, just a shame about the result.

The referee had an absolute nightmare, the worst iv seen for ages.

Keep your heads up Liverpool and all fellow reds, out of the first 5 games we have played 3 of the top 4 and played well, but bad luck and bad refereeing and silly mistakes av cost us.

I think on today's evidence we can now go on a winning run, so stop the negativity and get behind the players and the manager...

Curled1

Positive performance, but the same was said after the Man City game, and we went on to have a crap performance against Arsenal.

Piledriver

23 Sep 2012 15:33:57
Rodgers had better buck his idea's up, does he not realise we are in a relegation battle?

However, his poor decisions were greatly outmatched by Mark Halsey, dirty horrible cheating cockerel

What can he do? Get a gun and shoot the ref?

What were Brendon Rodgers poor decisions? Tactically we were spot on!!

23 Sep 2012 15:33:52
well I'm sorry to say it but after today's performance some serious questions need to be asked. Defensive mistakes, no hope of scoring a goal....just how the hell is this the start of a new era for the reds?
We are in desperate need of a couple of quality strikers, that much we all know. But we also need to strengthen our defence, it is at times really shocking. I hate being so pessimistic but I am sick of hearing of how the club is in a transitional period, we've been in this situation for nearly 3 years. The owners have had enough time to 'steady the ship', we now need to be challenging, not languishing at the foot of the table scraping for points.
I don't know what the boards policy is on buying players (ed, maybe you can shed some light on that), but we've seen some quality players (Podolski being the prime example) being bought for a bargain this summer and we have missed out once again. It pains me to see the club I love in the position it's in, but the reality of the matter is if we don't start scoring the goals then we are very quickly going to become a mid-table club. THIS IS NOT THE LIVERPOOL I KNOW AND LOVE!!

You are a complete tool

23 Sep 2012 15:33:50
Very proud of the boys today. As mentioned by others borderline red card and it should not have been a penalty.. But hey, this is how it is every time.. We must find and destroy that voodoo doll that keeps f...in things up for us.

Evans should also have been red carded.

Looking forward to seeing more of Suso

Gutted.

23 Sep 2012 15:33:49
Hi ed/s, i want to ask for your views on the 2 major decisions on the game and also on how we played. Thanks alot ed/s!

YNWA
FilipinoRED {Ed002's Note - The sending of was perhaps a little harsh, but many refs would have given it on the basis of being dangerous. I certainly think that the ref made a mistake with the penalty. I am beginning to fear for this style of play that Rodgers is instilling - running as fast as you can at the player with the ball. It will lead to more bookings and more sendings off. It will also lead to players tiring - and is predictable. It is not like watching Blackburn Rovers just yet, but the game plan needs to start varying.}

I except that shelvey was not in control and off the ground, but so was Evans. They both got the ball.It was a dangerous challenge by both players and to give one a red and one nothing is bad refereeing.United got all the decision today, but that's nothing new,is it?

Respectful disagreement to the ed's comment - We have actually become more prone the past two or three games to lumping it up sometimes and looking for a long ball into space. Rodgers realizes what you realize and it's already happening IMO :D

23 Sep 2012 15:32:34
Manchester United are an embarrassment to the game of football. They will fall. It's happening now. The same signs of decline that we had. They were shameful today in their approach to the game. A total and utter disgrace. The contribution Ferdinand made for Shelveys sending off was something that should be dealt with by the premier league. They are a shameful blot on the whole of football.

They still best us though mate, and at the moment that's all that matters. Points are points and we need to start getting some.

23 Sep 2012 15:32:27
Hey eds ,is it possible for liverpool to take this ref to fa because his decisions were horribly off the mark and it was clearly seen by everyone. And also if this is possible do you think liverpool will put in a notice or something? -RED INDIAN {Ed002's Note - No, of course not.}

Yes, of course they can appeal.

BJH YNWA

23 Sep 2012 15:32:18
Really proud of the way the lads played today. We just didn't get the rub of the green.

The first 45 minutes were the best I've seen in a very long time. Encouraging signs and it won't be long before the points come along with a performance.

BR is definitely the man to take us forward.

Keep the faith,

Raoul

23 Sep 2012 15:32:03
Hello eds, any chance of signing Mark Halsey ?

I appreciate he's(the ref) been through alot(in his personal life)....but..

What a complete tool that man is, Shelvey was (stupidly) saying to Fergie.. "How much did you pay this time FergIe, eh?"

Delighted with the effort and drive from the team, but will our luck ever change? Been going on for quite some time now. penalties not given etc.

10 men for 60 % of the game, yet, absolutely gutted to have lost.

Lee YNWA {Ed052's Note - The effort was amazing, even Reina was good!!}

23 Sep 2012 15:31:17
Valencia should teach Indian cricketers how to dive.

I am happy with the way we fought. anyways, even last year we had same number of points out of these 5 fixtures. But this Liverpool team is here for real. I am very hopeful of our performance this season.

Suso was good, he produced a lovely throughball. We have a good long term future besides an equally good near future.

Shail.

Massive improvement then

I hold NO hope for our current team!

23 Sep 2012 15:31:09
superb performance nd same old result....all I'm saying is chance after chance after chance nd more chance but we can't finish...

We're playing well and still losing games, now what scares me is when our confidence goes then we really are in the rubbish.

ridiculous reffing, we dominated that game, if shelvey had stayed and we had a decent striker we could have won that definitely. unlucky today, lets hope in jan if a player does come in, its someone like llorente.

Could've, would've, should've never ever won a match.

23 Sep 2012 15:30:15
Who can Liverpool ain't unlucky now? Omg I'm actually like stunned! That's saying something after this season

23 Sep 2012 15:30:04
10 v 11 we were still out playing them 10 v 12 it is against the rules say no more.
We've played some good stuff today we may not win the league but we will win a good team.

Surely we can't be relegate after today's performance but we are now risking relegation and that hurts.

Keep the faith.
KernowRed

Yeah, 5 games in or so. worrying isn't it? did you not see how we played today? we've a hell of a team in the making {Ed052's Note - And we have won all our Euro games too which is good}

We got beat most of this year from january and the form is relegation

23 Sep 2012 15:28:53
I'm not one to complain about officiating, I believe it all evens out in the end, however, that was by far the worst officiated match I've seen in a VERY long time. How in the world, that was a penalty, but there wasn't one called on Suarez, I'll never know.

That was a very harsh result for us today. We were the better team on the field, even one man down, and deserved points. I'm still optimistic for the future.

stonebraker

Shelvey had studs up and straight red, RVP had studs up and all he got was yellow, this happened in the same match so how can a ref not apply the same outcome to the same incident.
KernowRed

23 Sep 2012 15:28:16
Rodgers is clueless

Oh dear.

Hans

Yes - as to why it was a red card and then a penalty

You obviously didn't watch the match then, we are unlucky ATM and yes we need a striker badly but the team and manager are not clueless.
KernowRed {Ed052's Note - It waasn't a red, we should have had a pen, there 'pen' wasn't a pen, thats unlucky, so whoever criticises the lcub, players or manager are stupid}

Well said ed, the ref lost us the game today, he directly affected the result with a shameful display

23 Sep 2012 15:27:37
A completely unfair penalty, a red that should have been yellow, two defenders off injured. We might have scored less goals but we beat Utd all day. They were crap. Great performance by the home team YNWA

cozinoz

Couldn't agree more United were awful.

Disney!

There you go - even the Utd fans know we beat them today

23 Sep 2012 15:27:23
Shattered. Haven't cursed so much in such a long time. What are United proud of? Of having the ref in their pocket?
Honestly guys, I don't know... Perhaps we should give up on watching on football, since this is no longer an honest sport...

Will the people who wanted Gerrard benched today come forward and admit your folly.

Gerrard was the best midfield player and the best defender on show today.

Gerrard has been named MoTM

Gerrard only turns up for Man Utd and Everton games these days.

Some fans are just insane

Gerrard can do no right for them if he has a bad game he needs replacing if he plays well its still not good enough

23 Sep 2012 15:24:53
Referee completely spoiled the game. Utterly crap officiating!

Rodgers takes sterling off why he should be sacked look at the table he is a joke fsg are also a joke should have bought a smaller team.with smaller ambition

Yes, look at the table but then look who've played and how many we've played. Then get sense of perspective and realism.

Hans

Sterling wouldn't have got a look in if it wasn't for Rogers you clown

Then take charge then ! and you'll knows how hard to be liverpool manager this time ! sterling taken off because rodgers wants to forced MU to play out wide , rodgers used 4-3-1-1 with suso behind suarez , dont you saw that ? i beleive not , coz that you just cant see that because you even not support our manager ..

Wind your neck in pal, FFS, the performances are a positive. Back 'em don't trash 'em.

Heartbreaking. Play so well but flawed by mistakes.

-Shane.

Liverpool by far the better team but United were handed the game by the referee. I'd rather lose 5-0 but lose fairly. That was an absolute joke and so blatant it is shocking.

Get real, time for Rodgers to go.

Beat by poor inconsistent reffing. Evans was Just a much in that tackle as Jonjo, if not more and even two footed, should have been yellow to each and a drop ball in my opinion, (both got the ball) or both off if it really was dangerous. never a pen, and if it was LFC should have had one in the first. Had it stayed 11 v 11 think we'd have nicked it, but 10 v 12 was always going to be tough!
Still even though we haven't had the results we deserve, plenty of signs for the good!

El Diablo!

Currently watching the game in the states. Warren Barton is on the panel. He's a ******* *****. He says that shelvey went in with 2 feet. Evans went in with 2 feet lunging. 50 50 tackle. Either no sending off or send them both off. Disgraceful decision. Could be a huge game changing decision.

Harsh red card. Challenge deserved a yellow... C'mon Reds. Stay strong....

23 Sep 2012 14:27:48
Oh Dear. We were doing so well. Shelvey can be a bit fiery and was borderline tackle at best. We'll now need to fight so hard. Shame, thought this looked like first win of the season... oh well, come on Boys, keep strong

Again, nobody who can put the ball in the net and someone does something stupid. I hope the word 'luck' isn't in the post match interview again.

What was shelvey doing in the team anyway hey?? Lol

Because he's earned the place - so why not pick him?

It was a joke mate, I have been calling for shelvey to be picked for weeks.

23 Sep 2012 14:24:32
Absurd sending off. Shelvey got the ball. Now we really have to win. Opposition very poor so far. Halsey as bad as we've come to expect unfortunately. Missed penalty. Red card. I'm sure he'll pull another blinder out of the hat second half. Best thing is we look like we want to win.
ND

If you tackle like that when you are not in control, you are at the mercy of the referee. It was a yellow for both players to be honest, we get red they get nothing.Shelvey was right to give fergie a mouthful on the way to the tunnel. King Kenny would have been proud of you son.

23 Sep 2012 14:23:12
That was harsh! Jonjo gets sent off for that, yet David Luiz escaped with a yellow for his shocking tackle on Walters.
Looks like Utd have signed another ref after Howard Webb

Didnt gerrard get sent off in important matches when he was around 20? Shelvey is definitely the next gerrard

23 Sep 2012 14:22:15
I've been saying it for a while now that Shelvy is a red card waiting to happen, and today he has proved my point, it was a sending off before you lot get started, well done Shelvy you have just lost us the game..... Your a joke

James

23 Sep 2012 14:22:02
I know everyone will prob have something to say about this but absolutely furious about that red card. I'm not saying it wasn't a bad tackle, but how is it worth a red card when Evra battering Sterling is only worthy of a small ticking off? FFS REF! I just wish refereeing was consistent!

23 Sep 2012 14:21:53
My point proven. Shelvey is not good enough to play and his lack of speed and rashness makes him a liability which will probably cost us the game. Thanks jonjo

Hello, everyone.
My name is Wim Winterburn. Was born in Harlem in the 60s. I've been an adventurer, farmer, classicist and part-time conductor.

I Moved to Plymouth, UK, aged 10 with both my parents. Must say, the Brethren there in Plymouth, terrific, top, top blokes. Loved every second I spent there.

1977 was a special year for me. I started at gramma school, papa and I and my life-long buddy, Manny Sanchez, all three of us, we conquered Mount Kilimanjaro, I visited the historical city of Rome,I watched and fell in love with Liverpool as they played and won the European Cup final against Borussia Moenchengladbach, my younger twin brothers Wilmot and Willy were born, my older sister Terry graduated from Yale, Butch- my American pitbull terrier, began was to run again haven't not done so in over half a year after a nasty incident with a komodo dragon at the Sunde Islands, and, above all, I met Ruth Marie, the love of my life, at the Cup Final in Rome.

Ruth was from Bootle but had been living with her mom in Bournemout at the time. She was and still is a massive Red.

We, Ruth and I, were there at Anfield two years later when we thumped Aston Villa 3 - 0 to win our 11th league title. An awesome day which was made even more beautiful by my promise I made to Ruth.

Indeed keep my promise I did.
September 23 1990 I married my princess, the most beautiful woman imaginable, Ruth Marie, atop Mount Kilimanjaro. The wedding itself was an adventurer and nothing like you are used.

We bought a house in Bootle, lived there for a few, though amazing, years. We were fairly nomadic and eventually we settled here in Africa, where all our daughters, Clair, Amy, Logan and Maistry were born.

Today Ruth and I celebrate our 22nd anniversary. We are hoping LFC makes it an extra special day.

I hope my introduction wasn't too long.
I just wanted to give my prediction.
I think today is the day when it clicks, near perfectly.
We will rout the Manc today.
5 - 1. I'm not joking.

Have fun, lads

Please post, ed.

Carragher has been stated as saying that he will know when to retire. I think that his performances recently have shown that that time has come. Unfortunately it looks as if he is going to be given a new one-year contract. To me that is extremely disappointing as is the fact that he is one the bench today instead of Coates. I know that a lot of you will be saying that his experience is the reason for that but his experiences against manchester united have not always been great.

A lot of us won't be saying that at all pal. Think the general feeling among Liverpool fans is that they'd
prefer Coates over Carragher all day.

The Reds team in full is: Reina, Johnson, Kelly, Skrtel, Agger, Allen, Shelvey, Gerrard, Sterling, Borini, Suarez. Subs: Jones, Enrique, Sahin, Assaidi, Henderson, Suso, Carragher.
Go on lads, Simonpw

Nice to see Suso get a spot on the bench, although not sure I would've put Carra in instead of Coates, and Downing instead of Enrique.

An attacking bench of Assaidi, Suso, Henderson, Sahin is not too bad.

hi ed first of all great job love the site . since torres left and suarez came in our goalscoring has decreased rapidly we have needed a good striker for ages and i cant see borini being prolific how on earth could fsg allow us to start a new season without someone who is proven at this level is amazing clearly we r going to struggle to score goals bcos we have no players who score on a regular basis our defence is a shambles we look like conceding every game and with us not scoring im very worried about this season thank god for sterling and allen otherwise id have nothing positive to say about us the decline of our team in the last 5-6 years is frightening please give us hope and tell us we r after some quality players bcos for the last three years im not confident b4 every match we play if things dont pick up soon points wise it might b too late .can i have ur opinion please ed many thanx mark {Ed002's Note - I have explained on numerous occasions that there would be no vast spending spree on new players. Sure there was an issue getting Dempsey but there are youngsters who should be given a chance.}

Actually if you cast your mind back, Torres had hardly been prolific for a good 12 - 18 months before he left.

I don't get why we wanted Barry in the 1st place, we had one of the best midfielders in the world in alonso, and yet Benitez thought I'll sell him even though he was the one who dictated how we played and the tempo we played at in every game and I'll go out n buy Barry instead? That's when I stopped giving rafa my full support and started questioning him as our manager...... Everyone could see how much influence alonso had on our team and the way we played, but rafa decided to tell him that we are willing to sell him....... So well done rafa, and yeah thanks for the good things you did but please don't come back

Andy

Let it go - it was ages ago!

This has been done to death. Get over it. Alonso had been poor for quite a while after coming back from injury. He was a saleable asset. It was only in the season after he was nearly sold that he played out of his skin every single game. The damage had been done and he didn't want to stay after the end of the season.

He needed more money for transfers than H&G were willing to give, so he needed to sell a big asset. {Ed063's Note - But all he did was sell Alonso and buy Aquilani. How is that an improvement?}

Andy mate Alonso was average in his first 2/3 season and at other hand Gerrard had fantastic patnership with barry for england so benitez wanted barry but owners didnt back him the only option was left to sell Alonso to juventus in order to buy barry but he refused to go to juventus then he had one of the best season for us and Madrid came for him.

Benitez wanted players which owners didn't back him

David villa for 18m
David silva for 16M
Aguero at age of 16/17 for 7m
Dani alves before going to barca for 12/13M
Jovetic for 12/13M
And many more but he was always forced to buy players which were not his first or even second choice by moore

Just imagine if he was backed where would we be. Perhaps dominating domestic and europe

Littered with more second rate players on high wages not good enough to play for the reserves and maybe a couple of decent signings out weighed by poor signings. stuart

Ed63 mate Aqua was bought coz our owners were not ready to pay full transfer fee for players they wanted to pay transfer fee atleast for 2/3 years which Roma excepted and we were running out of time just hope it helps mate

Good morning ED'S i would like your opinion on the Daily Mail article, that states we will be confirming the renovation of Anfield. It makes a lot of sense to increase to 60K. And with the council helping out by buying the surrounding houses, it looks like we might finally have a resolution to all of the uncertainity. Si {Ed002's Note - I have explained before that this is the most likely solution. Going over 60k causes issues financially and a new ground does not seem to be viable in my view.}

Thanks Ed002 you've been telling us for months that redevelopment was most likely. Will Anfield be renamed?

Thanks mate

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96 {Ed002's Note - I was of the opinion that the owners would look to do something with regard to raising some money to fund a redevelopment. I would think if it does happen that "Anfield" would stay as part of the name. However, this is simply speculation on my behalf and I appreciate it would be an issue with many.}

Ed am I right in thinking that there are transport infrastucture problems if we go above K60 that would seriously add to the cost as well as planning permission due to road works? {Ed002's Note - Over 60k requires the club to take financial responsibility for improvements to the transport infrastructure. Planning permission will be required regardless.}

Noo! Come on lads, ground share, we have a couple of quid we can throw in! Fair play though, good luck with it, The Prem needs Anfield.

Billiam

Ed were is the link for this in the daily mail plz???

I would like to know why we dont redevelop the ground to 70 thousand,i am from malta and try to go once a year.flying to the uk is cheap the problem is getting tickets.15000 more wont be enough. {Ed002's Note - I think it unlikely that the extant development could be increased by that much nor is the money available to build a new stadium. Additionally there would be significant additional costs going above 60k.}

Ive been told a very promising working relationship is already building between Brendan Rodgers & Dave Fallows - And the owners have been very involved, Wanting to avoid the awful communication of the summer window.

Fallows has requested funds to hire more "staff scouts", which has been given the go ahead. I know for a fact that the scouting and development staff is as good as any across Europe and South America, but our "eyes" over Africa and Eastern Europe have been poor for many years - Something which Fallows will improve.

Exciting times ahead.

Looking forward to the game today as i do every game . There is a point when results mean more then the football you play ie better too play ugly n win then play ultimate football not , but saying that imo we've been playing good football but just have the same old bad finishing and bad luck ! Maybe just maybe today can be a starting point for the rest of the season good result today n things don't look so bad . A message to the boys take your time head down shoulders over the ball and inside the frame of the goal boys not everything has to be right in the corner just look at jonjos finishes Thursday! Good luck boys and god bless the 96 ynwa . lfcmossy82

Expect the owners to announce redevelopment of anfield soon. They will use the history of the ground as the public reason for the decision and state they couldnt see the club move away from atmosphere they saw today at utd game. Dont believe them - Truth is its the only option as they are unwilling to put their own money down and have failed to bring on a sponsor to pay for it!

I dont care if we move or stay just so long as capacity and revenue increases

Why should they pay for it out of their own pocket, they'll never see that money again if they do. The club needs to be self-sufficient.
I'm not surprised no-one wants to sponsor the stadium, it's an expensive business.
Lay off the owners, they're doing the best for our club.

Shur up ya dope!

Except for the fact that it will cost atleast £150m to redevelop, so there goes your "the owners won't put their hands in their pockets theory" - Also, as I'm sure has been highlighted on here numerous times, A new build stadium is potentially, for a club in our position, not the best way forward and would cripple us.

Maradoo

So what are we meant to do believe you then? Priceless.

Mighty reds

Yupp, it makes sense. the owners don't want to spend money, so they redevelop the place, since that's free as everybody knows. won't cost a penny. those *******s.

"shut up ya dope!" THIS!

Hi Eds
I wonder if you could answer a question for me? Was watching Gaston Ramirez running riot for Southampton yesterday and he had a good game. I understand that we had interest in him over the summer. What actually happened that resulted in him not coming to us?
This is a great and informative site. Keep up the hard work and here's hoping that today's match is remembered only for some fantastic football.
43Red {Ed063's Note - We were put off by the price - but everyone was. City, Spurs, Inter, and Juve all were put off by the price. Southampton have money and were willing to pay what Bologna wanted.}

LFC Team for the Mancs-

Reina
Kelly Skrtl Agger Johnson

Gerrard Allen

Shelvey

Sterling Borini Suarez

Borini is a striker and is wasted out side, although he does a great job tracking back. Recently Suarez has been drawn out wide to try and get onto the ball, so start him there. He can make things happen.

Bench- Jones, Carragher, Wisdom, Assaidi, Sahin, Henderson, Coates, Morgan

Nice and compact and allows Shelvey to roam a bit and cause some trouble. Allen and stevie pulling the strings and filling in the gaps in the centre allowing the defence to deal with the wing threat of Kagawa and still man mark RVP! Also great potetial for counter attacks with the speed we have out wide!

Thanks Brendan

You can't have 8 players on the bench pal

May be a chance for downing i.e pay back time

Jus take out carra

LOL fair enough, it was early in the morning and i had a hangover! OK take out Carra! bench sorted!

Some fans on here have very short memories. If the search function goes back far enough I can prove it, as well!

Rafa- All I see is why didnt we bring Rafa back? Have you all forgotten his last 2 seasons? People were split down the middle. Some saying give him another year, the rest saying sack him. Tactically, yes we were well prepared. The football was defensive and boring. We drew and lost far too many games against weak sides (Stoke at Anfield jumps to mind immediately). Substitutions were often mind boggling! Yes Rafa had his hands tied by the cowboys but it was the right time for him to move on. Towards the end of that season the majority of the fans in the pubs and on the Kop (although we all loved the fella), wanted new blood. In Rafa's own words....FACT!

Hodgson- erm... enough said....

King Kenny- We played some great football but the results were not there and the purchases made for 100 million were imho terrible. I personally wish he could go back and have another think about who he wanted to buy. I believe with the right players we would have made at least 5th. However hindsight is a wonderful thing and the league position combined with the awful Summer buys contributed to the end of the great mans tenure at LFC.

Now onto BR- He has come in and been honest from the start. This is a project, an overhaul. He has had to upgrade our weak scouting system. Change completely the way we play football (ironically back to the way we played for Paisley and Fagan). He has changed the ethos of the club. Changed the way we train. He has done all this with the full knowledge of the fans. He has told us it will take time (from day 1). He has brought in some good players. He has offloaded what dead wood we had. His hands were tied by poor work on the part of Ian Ayre but in the future I expect LFC to act a lot quicker and more decisively in the transfer window. We have played some of the best footie in the league (Man city). Yes, its true, results have been crap. But we are lacking a 25 goal a season striker and that is the fault of administrators at Anfield, not BR who identified his target early on and expected the deal to be done. FFS give the man a chance. I agree we need a result but we also need a bit of patience and the type of backing we gave to KK and Rafa, which imho has been sadly lacking for the current manager. (I may be an optimist) Today I expect us to win, I expect respect to be shown by both sets of fans and an atmosphere akin to a European night! I expect at least 6 yellow cards and 1 red card. I expect LFC to win maybe 3-1. At some point all out possession has to come good, and today is as good as any other!
Tommy

Excellent post thomas

In Rafas second to last season Liverpool finished 2nd (and with a bit of luck at stoke would have won the league)

Rafa, Bar Aquilani, got his purchases correct when he spent over £12m on a player. It's when he was restricted to the £1-5m bracket he got it wrong, where there was kids in the reserves who could do just as good a job (for example - where we had Kyrgiakos, we could have had San Jose or Ayala)

I believe Rodgers, using his experience at Swansea and reserve level, will get those "cheap" purchases correct.

Maradoo {Ed063's Note - *Cough* Robbie Keane *Cough*}

Robbie Keane was NEVER a Rafa purchase, you and i know that Ed063!

Rafa was only willing to have Keane in the squad if Barry was brought in as that was the area that needed strengthening. He wasnt, And yet Keane came.

Maradoo {Ed063's Note - Who's was he then? And why was the purchase of Barry dependent on Keane? It makes no sense to me sorry}

Rafa wanted both but he wanted Barry before Keane because he was more important. One of the owners or Rick Parry wanted to buy Keane before they could get Barry. I don't know why they wanted to get Keane but it was actually dependant but in the end the owners lied and infact didn't have the required funds that they said they had to get both.

BthekingB {Ed063's Note - Either way Keane was still a Rafa Signing. And I don't see why Barry was more important when we had Alonso - he forced Alonso out with his pursuit of Barry. I will never forgive him for that personally.}

On Rafa people should give a balanced view.
His bad signings (although open to a little opinion) were: Andersen, Aquilani, Babel, Barragan, Carson, Cavalieri, Degen, Dossena, El Zhar, Gonzalez, Insua, Itandje, Josemi, Jovanovic, Keane, Kromkamp, Kyrgiakos, Leto, Morientes, Nunez, Palletta, Pellegrino, Pennant, Riera, Voronin, Zenden. {Ed063's Note - I liked Riera}

With the Yanks not giving him any more money, and the need to become more attacking ( certain fans ? ) who would you have sold at that time Ed? escpecially when he had a young Lucas comming through.
Torres or Gerrard maybe? {Ed063's Note - I would have sold Gerrard, he hasnt been the same player for a very long time and we would have got mega bucks for him}

(Stoke at Anfield jumps to mind immediately). ??? rafa didn't lose to stoke at anfield in fact we havent lost to them at anfield in quite a few years!

Yes I know we finished 2nd, but we should have won it, at times we were so negative it killed me. I know I wasnt alone because I sat in the kop for every home match and i'm not deaf! I'll mention the handling of Alonso, and the desperate bids for gareth barry? Why did we sell Arbeloa, or if he wanted to go, for such a low price? Why in good gods name did Rafa ever sign Phillip Degen? Anyway all this is beside the point. I was trying to point out, at the time Rafa went the fans were massively on his back. We were unhappy with the tactics the buys and the negative formations, (2 holding players against 2nd rate teams). Even in those formations their was no flair or energy. When Rafa left their really wasnt too much of a hue and cry about it. We simply wished him well. However some fans here make out we were all marching on anfield to protest him leaving. They make out he is a messiah and without him back the club will have an epic fail! Its ridiculous! I have massive respect for Rafa, what he did for LFC, and the Families of the Hillsborough victims. BUT, he is not the answer now. Give BR a chance and dont condemn the man 4 games into a season!
Tommy

How about Alberto *cough* Aquilani? Or the mega-millions success that was Ryan Babel?

Ed 63 rafa wrecked our club we should have got him out a few years earlier
i thinks hes sweeping the streets now

majestic69 {Ed063's Note - He wasn't all bad mate. He completely reshaped the academy - he also brought Rodolf Borrell to the club}

Win or lose?

I choose Win - as u all do; but is win the next game or win in the future more important?

We hate the mancs as much as they hate us; we've had good results against them in recent years but not done so well in the league.

So will we win later today? Maybe.. but if we lose have we lost?

Rewind 2 seasons, the current England Manager in charge, scratching his head Joe Cole playing a defensive winger.... We wanted Hodgson out because he was killing what we was all about - pass move, possession football, not rigid football based upon work ethic alone.

Look at the present day, premiership results (not performances) - awful. But have we been playing better football? Yes. Youngsters coming through, not one but 3 or 4 (Robinson, Suso, Sterling, Wisdon) add to that Coates, Kelly and Shelvey (hopefully Henderson as well).

Some teams get relegated to start again; get rid of 1st team and restart the progress. We've had to repair previous mistakes, take the hit and get rid.

Look at the 1st starting 11; we may improve it in January or the summer - if we sell its players not in 1st 11 - thats a good thing.

I don't know what the score will be later (i'm confident of a win) but the win or lose isnt about Man U; it's about what we can become if we focus and put our energy into the team and supporting it.

I don't know what the Man U fans will do later - we can do what we do best though; support the families, JFT 96, YNWA, support the team and the players.

I believe Rodgers will get in right - we might win/lose/draw later but i'd take a loss if the next 20 years was successful.

Thanks for reading; enjoy your day; lets show the world (again) why we are different, why we are the best.

Superb post, finally a bit of common sense on here. (Although am not to sure about the relegation, going a bit far there I think)

Bit worried about the media coverage this week regarding the match sunday, while I totally agree with ending all unsavoury chanting at games it would seem a lot of the papers are just waiting for something to happen so they can hammer us, I would have thought so soon after the report last week they may have been more inclined to help in the search for justice.

for me assaidi is the missing link and should start today.borini is not useful to the team when he plays out wide and not in the center.and rodgers should limit the fullbacks from going forward too much... united are monsters when it comes to counter attack.

Just like to say hope is united fans at the game tomorrow pay respect as some things are bigger than football good luck lads

Dio

I hope they behave...the sad thing is they shouldn't need to be asked. Fergie's being painted as some sort of hero for pleading with utd supporters not to ruin anything. He has done himself such a huge favour...but tomorrow is about people who have been campaigning for 23 years for justice, and our 96, not SAF. I hope the media realise that.

How much money would we get for Henderson downing and enrique combined
AnfieldUSA?

P.S.- I don't want Hendo sold by any means, I supported him from the beginning. But it seems as if Rodgers want him gone.

About 25m?

RedKopite

I would say henderson 6-8 mill, downing 6 mill and enrique 5mill so around 18million, after tax and pay cuts we could hope to see around 14 million i suppose :L
( This is my guess, i have no knowledge at all )
Manno

9-10m for Hendo based on age, 5m for Downing and 4m for Enrique. Throw in Joe Cole for 1m (if were lucky) and we can get a decent replacement for Henderson

Since a lot of people on this site are predicting a loss im gonna try to persuade some why we actually DO have a chance; Rafael is playing his 3rd game in 9 days whoever goes up against him Suarez/Assaidi/ Sterling is sure to give him hell, Evra is in dreadful form so the opposite winger is sure to have some fun, Scholes didn't perform well against Galatasaray midweek if Allen and Gerrard can link then i think they can run rings around Scholes n Carrick. To top it all off United will be tired from midweek whilst we have rested 8 first-teamers and Rooney and Young are ruled out, but the only threats come from Van Persie and Kagawa, Skrtel and Agger need to be on their toes if they're to keep those 2 from causing trouble. My Prediction; Liverpool 2-0 ManU: Suarez, Borini.

Hate to sound negative but your argument is based on tiredness and lack of form. Neither will apply in a game against Liverpool.
We can win it but it will be because we've played a stormer, NOT because Utd are wobbling.
